Steal Your Heart || alessia russo x reader
Tumblr media
prompt: Loosely based on this request
warnings: None!
Stepping on the Arsenal training pitch, you were greeted by the familiar sounds of football, shouts and laughter echoing across the field, and the thud of balls being kicked. You couldn’t help but feel a mixture of excitement and nerves, a sense of anticipation in the air. As Arsenal’s newest transfer during the January window, you were eager to prove yourself on the pitch and cement yourself as a vital piece to North London. Having recently arrived at the club after a particularly rough break up, you were determined to focus solely on your football career, swearing off love in the process.
Your attention was soon drifted away from your thoughts to a familiar figure of Alessia Russo, one of Arsenal’s beloved strikers and England’s star girl.
“Did she just trip over her own two feet?” You questioned to Leah, the blonde center back who was put in charge of showing you around the Arsenal facility before training. Pointing to the slightly taller blonde who seemingly tripped over thin air and fell roughly onto the pitch. She ungracefully pushed herself up off the ground, wiping her now pitch-stained knees, and shuffled around to act as if nothing happened.
“She probably did. That is Alessia, most of us call her Less though. She will most likely be the clumsiest person you will ever meet.” She explained to you as your mouth curved into a small smile. Her cheeks were rosy, most likely from embarrassment, but you found it adorable.
She then led you to a man in unusually larger puffer jacket and several of Arsenal staff members you had met earlier in the day.
“Welcome to the Arsenal. We are thrilled to have you here.” The Swedish man told you, reaching out to shake your hand. The weather in London was much colder than you were used to, but you didn’t suppose a sunny day like today warranted such a big jacket. You had to carefully stifle back your laugh and cover it up with a warm smile as you shook his hand. “Hope Leah was sufficient in her tour.”
“Yeah she was great! Showed me the important stuff and introduced me to Win.” A dimpled smile as you remember the chocolate lab who you gave several scratches on the head to, and then she rewarded you with a few licks to the face.
“Great! Girls get in partners, and we will begin training.” He yelled out.
Most of the girls already had their designated partners, quickly picking each other and heading towards the pitch, so you were left stumbling to find someone to partner up with. A tap on your shoulder and a slight swivel of your head you were met with the familiar figure of the blonde from before.
“Partners?”
“Sure…” She had yet to properly introduce herself directly.
“Alessia, but most people call me Less.” She responded quickly.
Kicking the ball back and forth warming up the legs, you and Alessia fell into a comfortable conversation. She had a particularly bubbly personality and seemed interested in the answers you had given to her questions. You couldn’t help but feel drawn to Alessia and her awkward charm.
“How are you liking North London?” She sent you a solid pass to your right foot as you kicked it back to her.
“I landed only a few days ago so I haven’t really had the time to explore yet.” Apartment hunting had taken a majority of your time, but you were dying to experience what this side of London had to offer.
Fortunately, your sister lived in London, and you were able to crash on her guest bed before you had the time to sort out an apartment for yourself. She was there for you over the phone to pick up the pieces of your broken heart when rumors of cheating flooded into social media after your ex was caught bringing another woman to your shared home when you were on national team duty. The Arsenal bid came a few days later and you gladly accepted, fleeing the city in which haunted your memories.
“I get that. There is a coffee shop right near training grounds that has coffee to die for. You have to give it a try sometime.” She suggested.
Weaving in between agility poles interlocked with your teammate’s hands was not initially how you thought today’s training was going to go, but the blonde’s angelic laugh behind you as you pulled her hand to follow in your trail was all worth it. Especially when she had been moving so fast to keep up with you that by the time she left the poles she stumbled out tripping over her own feet once again.
“Less you might be the clumsiest person I have ever met, and we just met. That is what, the second fall today?” Alessia’s infectious laughter filled the air.
The flush of her cheeks you assumed was from her second wipeout mixed with the sun beating down on her during training. Nonetheless, you found her little blush cute and as cliché as it sounded, small butterflies filled your stomach. Quickly you let those thoughts flee your mind, you were here at Arsenal to focus on football.
“Oh whatever.” She giggled, gently brushed your shoulder, pushing you forward on the pitch. Her touch was electric, sending little chills down your back.
Despite your initial nerves, training was well underway, and you felt confident.
“Nice pass!” Alessia exclaimed, a wide smile lighting up her face as she received the ball. She had a smile that you felt could light up even the gloomiest of days.
“Why thank you Miss Russo,” you replied, returning Alessia’s smile with one of your own.
As the two of you trained together, you couldn’t help but draw near the girl and be amazed at the way she moved on the pitch. Her movements were graceful on the ball but as soon as she wasn’t doing something football related, she immediately acted as if she had two left feet. She was captivating in a way you couldn’t explain.
----------
It was a few weeks later and you had fully set into your place at Arsenal, making solid connections with a majority of the girls and finding success on the pitch. One specific connection with a certain blonde striker who felt like a beautiful ray of sunshine who made you question several things. Alessia and you had solidified each other as designated partners for training. The two of you had formed a close bond, she was calming to talk to, and her puppy-like personality made her warm to be around.
“Team movie night at my house tonight, attendance is mandatory.” Leah yelled throughout the changing room after training. She used her fake stern voice that she typically used during pre-match huddles to let everyone know she was serious about the event.
Turning to look at Less, “Are you going to go?” Her cubby was to the left of yours which meant every day you would return home with her vanilla scent cemented in your nose.
Looking up from mindlessly scrolling on her phone, she met your eyes, “I’ll be there if you will.” Sending you a cheeky wink, returning the smile you had sent her.
Overhearing your conversation Leah yelled “You both better be there. No excuses.”
Mimicking her attitude and batting your eyes to Alessia which only caused the two of you to break out into laughter. It was a typical scene your teammates had come to realize. The two of you in your own little world, most of the time giggling at some sort of joke one of you had made. You and Alessia had become close very quickly and there were some lingering thoughts of a possible relationship with the striker, but each time you forced the thoughts out of your mind.
Your sister had thankfully drove you over to the England’s skippers’ home, you had stopped on the way at the store and grabbed a couple bags of chocolates to share with the team. Secretly, the chocolates you had picked out where a favorite of Alessia’s that she had mentioned one day during training.
Inside Leah’s home, a few team members had arrived before you and were grilling Alessia for not making a move on you yet. They watched the way the two of you interacted, and the way Alessia suddenly became a bundle of nerves around you.
“Come on Less, you’re in love with her. I’ve never seen you so nervous to just be around someone, and I’ve known you for years!” Lotte told Alessia, Leah, and Lia who were sat around the kitchen island.
“She just got out of a relationship and who knows even if she feels the same way?” Alessia had been secretly falling for you, but she had trouble figuring out if you had felt the same way. You confided in the girl about your last relationship and your solemn swear to focus on your professional career.
A knock at the door brought them out of the conversation as Leah opened the door and allowed you in.
Leah’s living room was transformed into a cozy area with blankets and pillows spread out wide and popcorn at the ready. It was a challenge to fit almost twenty women into a room, but the greatest challenge was trying to figure out a movie that everyone could collectively agree on.
You found yourself slotted next to Alessia on a plush cushion as you let the girls around you argue about what they wanted. Thankfully, Leah made an executive decision, declaring that since it was her house meant that she had final say, and turned on a rom-com. Every so often your shoulders would brush against the blondes in the dim light. Despite every intent you made to remain guarded and build a strong wall around your heart, you couldn’t help but feel a sense of comfort in Alessia’s presence.
As the movie played on the screen, you learned against the blonde, her warm seeping into your skin with a small blanket over the two of you. A feeling of contentment washing over you as you watched the movie together. Even in the low light, you could see Alessia’s crimson red cheeks.
When the movie came to an end far too soon for your liking, Alessia and you had yet to move until your phone began pinging. Your sister had been called into work and was unable to pick you up. You first thought about taking an Uber home, not wanting to inconvenience anyone, but you decided to ask first.
“Hey, can anyone take me home?” you asked.
 “I can, only if you want though. I’m sure anyone could,” she mumbled out, her voice was soft and gentle.
“I would love for you to be my chauffeur Less.” Quickly accepting the offer with a shy smile and a small flutter of excitement in your chest at the prospect of spending more time with her.
The streets of London were quiet as Alessia drove you home. You found yourself stationed in her passenger seat opening up to her in ways you hadn’t with anyone else. Sharing stories and dreams as if you had known each other for years. You both shared your hope and dreams, your fears and insecurities, and once again you couldn’t help but feel a sense of a deeper connection growing between the two of you. Your conversations flowed effortlessly, each word building a bridge between you two, it was something you usually found difficult, but with Less it was always easy.
Before you knew it, you had arrived home. Ushering the girl a handful of thank you’s and sealing it with a side hug. But before you could say goodbye and exit the car, Alessia grabbed your wrist.
“Hey, would you like me to drive you to training tomorrow morning? We can stop at the coffee shop I told you about? It is cool if not, no worries.” Alessia said softly, her voice was filled with nerves.
Your heart soared at the invitation and eagerly accepted the invitation, “That sounds lovely, see you tomorrow Less.” You were secretly counting down the hours until you could see Alessia again.
The next morning, Alessia arrived right on time and drove the two of you to the coffee shop. In the car, Alessia even let you play your music, something you knew was not allowed to many of your other teammates because everyone knew Alessia’s car was like her baby. Alessia’s eyes sparkled in the soft morning light as she drove.
Alessia ordered her drink and yours and you tried to hand the blonde your card to pay but she insisted she would pay.
“Less please let me pay, as a thank you for driving me yesterday and today,” shoving the card more in the striker’s face. She simply resisted, handing the barista her card as a loud huff left your mouth.
“You can pay for the next one.” She told you, sending you a wink.
“Who says I want to get coffee again?” Pretending to be upset, crossing your arms and turning towards the window.
She quickly became nervous, mumbling out words you couldn’t even begin to depict.
“Less. Less, I am just joking with you.” A fond smile tugged at your lips.
“Right. Yeah I knew that.” Her fake confidence only made you laugh. She handed you your drink as your fingers brush, its quick but it lights a familiar fire in your stomach. A feeling you were beginning to have around her often. As you arrived at the training ground, you couldn’t shake the feeling that you were exactly where you needed to be- with Alessia by your side, making you laugh and smile like no one else could.
----------
The first game you would be playing in the Arsenal red was against Watford for the FA’s Women’s Cup. You had a clear prematch routine, one that always ended with braiding your hair. In the changing rooms, you were nearly finished with the last section of your hair when Alessia walked in.
“I like your hair.” She complimented. She carefully watched in a slight trance.
“I can braid yours like mine if you want?” You asked, a playful smile tugging at your lips. Alessia looked up at you, eyes widening at the offer.
She nodded eagerly, stationing herself bent in front of you, allowing you to gently gather her hair in your hands. You watched in the mirror as Alessia closed her eyes, relishing the feeling of your fingers weaving through her hair. You finished the braid relatively quickly as Alessia had shorter hair, securing the braid with a small hair tie.
“All done.” Admiring your handywork in the mirror. “You look beautiful Less.” You couldn’t help but admire her beauty as well. The way the sunlight caught her hair on the pitch, the curve of her jawline, or the softness of her lips.
Alessia looked at herself in the mirror, a smile spreading across her face, “Looks amazing, thank you.”
She sealed the deal with a quick peck to your cheek, and a hug that lasted a little longer than it should, leaving you a puddle as she left. You couldn’t help but feel the warmth that lingered in your chest, a feeling that perhaps there was something more than a friendship blossoming between you and the striker.
----------
Maybe you should have followed in Jona’s footstep in wearing a large puffer because several days later you found yourself sick. What made it worse is that you were supposed to be going out with the team to celebrate the next international window break. You had been looking forward to celebrating the evening but now found yourself bedridden and alone.
You quickly sent the group chat a message saying you would not be in attendance and found yourself cuddled up on the couch with piles high of blankets and reruns of Love Island on your television.
A knock on your door surprised you. You blinked in confusion, wondering who could possibly be visiting you. You dragged yourself from the couch and made your way to the door.
Alessia stood on your doorstep with a worried look on her face. In her hands, she held a steaming bowl of soup covered with a lid.
“Less what are you doing here? You should be out celebrating?” Your voice thick with surprise.
“I heard you were sick,” Alessia said softly, her voice filled with concern. “My mom used to always made me this soup when I would get sick. She says it’s her secret recipe for curing colds.”
There was a rush of gratitude that washed over you at Alessia’s thoughtfulness. Stepping aside to let Alessia in.
“Thank you Less,” your voice soft with emotion. “That is really sweet of you.”
“It is no problem really,” she said. “I just want to make sure you’re okay.
She followed you to the couch, settling back into the warm cushion as Alessia took a seat beside you. She placed the bowl of soup in your hands and encouraged you to try some. It was delicious and you could see how it always did the trick. For a while, you and Alessia sat in comfortable silence, the only sounds in the room were the television and the metal hitting the bowl each time you brought the spoon to the bowl.
“This was really sweet of you Less.” It was like a tidal wave of emotions, the surging thoughts you had desperately tried to keep at bay so long coming to the forefront. Sat on the couch as your hands with the striker interlocked, both of you kept silent at the action.
You took a deep breath, steeling yourself for what you were about to say. “Less,” your voice barely above a whisper. “There is something I should tell you.”
Alessia turned towards you, “What is it? Is the soup not good? It’s okay I can make a different one if you would like?” she asked, her voice laced with concern. She even made movements to leave the couch, but you grabbed her hand and ushered her back down.
“I can’t pretend anymore. You need to know that I have grown to care for you, deeply.” You explained to the blonde. “I know it is kind of crazy given we’ve only known each other for a short time but I can’t shake this feeling.”
Alessia’s eyes widen with shock, her mouth opening and closing soundlessly as she struggled to find the right words.
You felt a surge of panic rising in your chest. Had you made a mistake? Had you ruined the friendship with the reckless confession?
Alessia reached out and took both of your hands in hers, her touch was warm and reassuring. “It’s you. It’s always been you. Since the day you stepped on the pitch on your first day.”
There was a surge of joy welling in your heart, a feeling of pure joy. Without another word, you leaned in and pressed your lips to hers. Your heart soaring as you felt Alessia’s strong arms wrap around you.

Drunken Confessions
Tumblr media
Prompt: Alexia Putellas x reader: - “No matter how much time we’ve spent apart, I never stopped loving you.” - “Why are you staring at me?” “Because I think you’re beautiful.”
Today was the day. Not only Alexia made her comeback, but also we also won La Liga undefeated.
You didn’t know which thing to be happier for, you winning your first championship since returning to Barça or your best friend returning to do what she loves the most, but most probably the latter option. You were so proud of her; seeing her again on the pitch and holding the trophy up while everyone cheered for her made your heart swell with joy.
You had known each other since the La Masia days; you were inseparable. Alexia in midfield, you as a striker; you linked up so well that you didn’t need to talk on the pitch, as the other girl already knew what the other was thinking. As soon as Alexia signed for Barcelona, you decided to change air and went to London, specifically at Arsenal; you were a gunner besides being a Barça fan, as Thierry Henry was your idol.
In the beginning, you would talk to her almost every day, as you missed being in each other’s company, you maybe a little more than Alexia. You were in love with her, has always been, so much so that you never moved on from her; you tried and nearly did it, but you couldn’t. She was just it for you. And the fact that you would talk to each other almost every day didn’t help either. Late-night talks kept you awake till midnight, which wasn’t healthy for an athlete, but you didn’t care; you wouldn’t care about anything else if it meant just listening to her voice.
But as months went by, everyday conversations became weekly, which turned into monthly. You initially didn’t think much about it, but then you realized that you needed to move on, so you tried.
“I really don’t think it’s necessary,” You said to Leah as she pointed to a dress.
“Oh, come on, for how long you haven’t been on a date?”
“A, this is not a date, it’s a setup, and B, not that long ago,” you say defensively.
Leah looked at you, tilting her head, “Okay, maybe I haven’t gone on a date in a while, but I am okay with it. I just need to get back to it.”
You tried convincing yourself while taking the dress off Leah’s hands and going to the bathroom to change. Maybe you were ready. You hadn’t seen Alexia in a year; it was time for you to move on.
All changed in Euros 2022 when she got injured; as soon as you heard that she ruptured her ACL, you had to see her, even though you were in a different team; you played for England, and she for Spain. You asked Ona to help you find a way to meet her so nobody could see you. So the breakfast the day before England and Spain would face each other would be the day.
As soon as you saw her, all the intensity of your feelings for her came crashing; she looked older and even more beautiful than before. As your eyes met, she finally stood up with her crutches, and without saying anything, you went to her and hugged her. After a few seconds, which felt like hours, you put your foreheads together, just like you did when you were younger.
“I really missed you,” Alexia whispered as a single tear threatened to fall down from her eye. You couldn’t talk, so you just held her a little tighter, hoping she would understand.
From then on, you decided to win the Euros for her, and you did. You won, scoring the winning goal against Germany, celebrating by putting up on both hands one finger to show 11, something that you would do back in your La Masia days when the midfielder assister you in your goals. That goal was for her.
When Barça called, announcing that Asisat Oshoala would change clubs and wanted you to be their new striker, you didn’t hesitate; your dream was playing with Barça and winning the Champions League. You would miss Arsenal, but you knew this was a step for her to take to become an even better player.
Being back with Alexia was something that you didn’t expect. All your progress trying to forget her went to zero when you saw the midfielder’s smile as she welcomed you back to the training center.
All your teammates would tease how you looked together, especially Keira and Lucy; you guys were inseparable, especially when Alexia came back to train with the team. You would link up so well that anyone was scared to do drills against the two of you. You would score goals and dribble past your opponents just by quickly passing the ball to each other. You knew Alexia wasn’t still 100% fit, but you couldn’t wait for that day.
When that day came, you were ecstatic; she was trying to downplay it, shrugging off your excitement. You were already winning the game, so the only thing that would top it, besides winning La Liga, was if she scored. You tried so hard to make her score, but nothing seemed to work. The game ended 5-2, with you scoring a brace.
As soon as the game finished, you ran to her and hugged her. She held you up until your legs started to dangle. She put you down and gave your one of the biggest smiles you had ever seen, she was back, and that was the only thing that mattered. You put your foreheads together and whispered, “I’m so proud of you.”
She hugged you again, and nuzzling into your neck, she mumbled, “Stop it, you’re going to make me cry.” You chuckled, letting her go when all your team swarmed you to throw Alexia in the air.
After the trophy celebration, the team went into the dressing room, and then they all went home to prepare dinner with the whole club in the evening. The next day you didn’t have practice, so you decided to celebrate even further with a couple of teammates by going to a local club. You, Lucy, and Keira, were getting ready at your house, and you decided to go for something simple, not too revealing, as you only wanted to celebrate the win.
“Do you think Alexia is going to come?” Lucy asks as you are putting on some mascara.
“I don’t know. I told her where it was and when, but I don’t know if she will come.”
“Mapi and Ana Maria are coming too, so maybe she’ll stop by.” Keira remarks.
After a few moments, Lucy added, “You know, I never understood the relationship between you two.” You looked at her through the mirror, with your stomach knotting.
“She’s my best friend.” I shrugged.
“Only that?” Lucy replies suggestively.
“Yes, what are you trying to say?” I answer a little defensively.
“All I’m saying is that the hug you shared today wasn’t that friendly, if you know what I mean.” She jokes.
“You got the hots for her, and she probably does too for you.” Keira remarks.
You roll your eyes, “I’m too sober for this conversation.” Sitting on the side of the bathtub while scrolling through your phone.
“So you are not denying it” Lucy smiles. You gave her a disapproving look while slightly blushing. “You guys would be perfect for each other.” She added.
“I think you should shut up.” You say jokingly.
“Oh my god, now I finally understand why our little striker is always single.” Keira grinned.
“I’m not little, and I don’t like Alexia. She’s way out of my league.” You sigh, standing up.
“So you do like her.” You don’t reply, Lucy laughed. “I fucking knew it.” She added.
“I’m done with this conversation; come downstairs when you guys are finished; I’ll call a taxi.” You go downstairs exasperated.
As they go downstairs, you stand up from the couch and turn to them, slightly hesitating, “So you guys know how I get when I’m drunk.” You tentatively start.
“Oh yeah, you have no filters when you talk.” Keira laughed.
“I remember when we went to the club after we won the Euros, you said to Leah that—“ You interrupted Lucy and rubbed my forehead, “You don’t have to remind me of that.”
“Just please, don’t make me say something stupid; I like it here,” I asked.
When you arrive at the club, you are soon greeted by your other teammates, Mapi and Ingrid, Jana and Bruna, Ana Maria, Patri, and Aitana. There was no Alexia, you knew she probably wouldn’t come, as she didn’t like partying very much, but you still hoped. You soon got dragged by Mapi and Aitana to have some shots while Keira and Lucy still talked to the others.
You were drunk. The problem was that when you are drunk, you don’t have any filters; you say whatever comes to mind; sometimes, it's funny, whereas other times it’s not. Other than that, when sober you are not very touchy. Still, when drunk, you like hugging people and sometimes can get over affectionate. So initially, you were scared that Alexia would come and probably say something you shouldn’t. Still, she wasn’t there, so you indulged in some fun. It was already an hour since you came to the club; you were dancing and singing your heart out to songs you probably didn’t even know the lyrics. As you turn to your friends, you see a new figure approaching them, then you recognize her. Alexia was here. She laughed at something that Mapi said, but you didn’t care. You were just too happy to see her.
You made your way through the crowd to your table, and you jumped in her arms, “Oh my god, you are here!” You say excitedly, slurring a little your words.
“And you are drunk.” She chuckled. She looked at me properly.
“Pfff, me? I definitely am not. See?” You tried walking in a straight line, failing miserably.
“Yeah, I’m taking you home.” She gently grabs your wrist.
“Come on, you just came here; at least dance with me for one song.” She sighed. “Okay, Only one, then I’m taking you home.”
“Alright.” You grabbed her hand and dragged her to the dance floor. She never was a good dancer, but you didn’t care. You were dancing with the most beautiful girl in the club, and you were happy. You looked at her, trying desperately to not make a fool of herself; you just smiled and kept looking at her.
“Why are you staring at me?” She asked shyly. Without thinking, you reply, “Because I think you’re beautiful.” You see her blush at the compliment and give you a shy smile while you just quickly cover your mouth like a little child that said something she shouldn’t.
“You are drunk.” She chuckles again.
“Let me take you home.” She offers.
“You can do whatever you want with me, woman; I’m yours.” You say, retaking her hand as she leads you out of the club.
You get into her car, and she drives. You were sitting in the passenger seat, and you began talking about the most random stuff you could ever imagine.
“Since when are you so chatty?” She grinned, quickly looking at you.
“I don’t want to fall asleep. And talking helps.”
“Just sleep. I’ll wake you when we get to your house.”
“No.” You pouted. “I’m a big girl, I will not sleep.”
“Then go ahead.” You lasted five seconds being silent. Then you continued, “Can I tell you something?”
“Is this some drunken confession you want to make?” She chuckled nervously.
“Well, I probably won’t remember it in the morning, so I guess I’ll say it now, even though I shouldn’t.” You didn’t let her reply when you added. “I just think you are very beautiful, and I have been in love with you for the past eight years, and I can’t stop thinking about you.” She opened her mouth, trying to reply, but you continued again. “And I know that if I were yours, I would try my best to be the best girlfriend ever because you deserve only the best.”
“Y/-“ You interrupt her once again. “And I know that you deserve better than me; that’s why I never said anything; you are amazing, while I’m just me, and you deserve to be with someone who is just as amazing and beautiful as you are because you only deserve the best. And I’m completely fine with it, okay, maybe not that much, but I’ll get it if you don’t want to talk to me anymore after this. I’ll be very sad, but eventually, I’ll move on. I’ll be okay.” You ramble. You let a quick exhale, and then you finally realize that the car has already stopped.
You look at Alexia for the first time after your big speech; you can only see her smile through the street lights outside the car. You react at her loss of words by asking, “I fucked up our friendship didn’t I?” Tears started flowing down your face, and you felt utterly sober for the first time during the night.
She put her hands on your cheeks and rubbed off the tears from your skin, and gave you a sincere smile, “You didn’t fuck up anything. Let’s get you inside; we’ll talk in the morning when you remember what I say.”
You just nod, and as soon as you get inside, she follows you to your room; she helps you clean your teeth by putting her hand on the small of your back in support for your dizzy body.
She helped you to bed, and you held her by the arm as she was about to leave.
“You don’t feel the same way, do you?” You mumbled sadly, nearly asleep. She let out a shaky exhale as her lips curled upwards.
“ I’ve been in love with you since I saw you the first day at training, and no matter how much time we have spent apart, I never stopped loving you. And don’t say you don’t deserve me because you are the most wonderful person I have ever met, and you, too, are also very beautiful.”
“Yes!” You replied very rapidly, showing all of your enthusiasm to her.
“Now go get some sleep, I’ll come by tomorrow, and we can talk then.” She was about to get up, but you stopped her again, “Can I get a hug?” You whispered shyly.
She laughed and sat down on the bed, waiting for you to change position so you could be seated too, and then she held you in a tight embrace, making you feel all fuzzy on the inside. As you removed yourself from the embrace, you put your foreheads together and closed your eyes. After a couple of seconds, she gave you a kiss on your forehead and whispered. “I’ll see you tomorrow, mi amor. Sleep well.”
She closed the lights in your room and shut the door. After a few moments of smiling dumbly at yourself, you finally fall asleep, thinking about the woman who was just here merely a few minutes ago.

Lia Wälti | first meeting (fluff blurb)
You cursed to yourself as you rushed around your new London apartment. Of course, you woke up late on your first day at a new job. You hurried around your apartment, attempting to do everything you normally do in the mornings in a condensed amount of time.
You were set to join Arsenal Women’s medical staff as a new physical therapist, though after being late on your first day, you weren’t sure if they’d keep you around. Hurrying to your car, you were quickly on your way to the training grounds, doing your best to follow the rules of the road in a speedy manner.
It was like the universe was set on punishing you for something today as you huffed annoyingly as traffic came to a stop. You watched the time tick by, becoming later and later as the seconds passed. You fought to resist rolling your eyes as you watched a horse and buggy trot past you, but your annoyance had reached its peak as you failed to keep your eyes from rolling.
With traffic now moving again, you went as fast as you legally could to reach the training grounds before your new job ended before you could even start. You sighed loudly in your car as you reached your destination and quickly found your parking spot near the front door.
You hurriedly grabbed your things and rushed inside, practically out of breath as you explained to the receptionist who you were and what you were doing here. He gave you directions towards the medical staff’s offices and you were on your way, not wanting to be any later than you already were.
Just as you turned the last corner, a body collided with yours, sending your things to the ground. You didn’t bother looking up at the person who ran into you as you quickly bent down to gather things. Just as you went to reach for your phone, the other person’s hand grabbed it for you.
“I am so so sorry, I wasn’t expecting anyone to be coming this way,” a soft voice broke you from your thoughts, finally gaining your attention for the first time. You looked up from where you were hunched over on the ground, making eye contact with Lia Wälti. You felt nervous holding eye contact with her, you knew who she was but seeing her in person changed everything for you.
You quickly stood up before taking your phone from the midfielder’s hands, mumbling a quiet “thank you.”
“Are you new? I would have remembered seeing you here before,” the footballer asked softly as her eyes stayed locked with yours.
“Um, yeah. I’m one of the new PTs. I’m Y/n,” you spoke as you checked the time on your phone seeing that you were at least thirty minutes late.
“Right, they told us we were getting someone new. C’mon, I’ll show you where all the offices are,” Lia offered before turning to go back the way she was originally coming from.
You shook your head to clear your thoughts before rushing to catch up with her. The short walk to the medical staff area was spent in silence as you went over different excuses you may be able to use in an attempt to not lose the job you haven’t started.
“Here we are,” Lia spoke as you both came to a stop in front of a door that read “medical staff.”
You sent the footballer a small smile before moving to open the door. Before you could get through the threshold, Lia’s hand reached out to grab your wrist, pulling you to a stop.
“Would you like to get coffee or something sometime,” the midfielder smiled as a light blush coated her cheeks.
“I’d love that,” you respond with a small smile, handing your phone back to Lia to put her number in your phone. You were already late and if they were going to fire you on the first date, at least you got a date out of it.
Lia handed your phone back before leaving you standing in the middle of the door. You could hear voices from inside the office that pulled you from your thoughts. You quickly shook your head before heading into the offices, mentally hoping that you would be able to keep your job which would mean seeing Lia more often.

A Hundred Golden Urns - Part ii
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pairing: Luke Castellan x unclaimed demigod (Alexandria)
Summary: Luke tries to help an unclaimed camper
Warnings: bit of angst- nothing crazy!
Part 1 here! Part 3 here!
Luke had half expected she wouldn’t show up to their sparring session.
He’d been pacing back and forth across the sand for the better part of an hour when she finally showed up. She wasn’t late, he was just rather early by his standards. He realised he’d said ‘first thing’ to her on the jetty, and then also realised that it was unlikely that either of them would know when that was. And so, as soon as the sun had begun to rise, he’d been stood in the sparring ring.
She had her hands behind her head as she walked, platting her hair into a braid down her back. She was biting on her lip as she did it, scowling at nothing. He tried not to let his eyes linger for too long, lest that scowl be turned on him.
‘I’m sorry if I kept you waiting.’ She said as she reached the edge of the ring, grabbing a chest plate and beginning to pull it over her head. ‘I hope you haven’t been here too long.’
She sent an apologetic smile over her shoulder as she pulled on her leathers. Again, he tried not to let his gaze linger.
‘I got here a few minutes ago.’ He replied, and hoped she couldn’t hear the lie in his voice. ‘I thought I’d better warm up before I trounce you.’
‘What happened to taking is slow?’
She turned back towards him, her armour on and her practice sword dangling in her right hand. It occurred to him then she didn’t even know how to hold a sword, let alone use one. He stepped towards her and gestured towards her sword arm.
‘Slow doesn’t mean easy.’ He said, taking her hand and adjusting her grip on the blade. ‘And I think you’ve been holding out on us.’
She quirked an eyebrow up, ‘oh?’
He let her hand down and retreated a few steps, gathering his own sword from the sand. ‘I think there’s more to you than meets the eye, and I for one, would like to find out what that is.’
Luke lunged before she could reply, swinging in a quick arc down across her body. Metal clanged as she battered his attack away from her chest, falling back a step. But as quickly as she’d stepped back, she readjusted her footing, settling back into her heels. It was his turn to quirk an eyebrow.
‘I thought you said you weren’t good at this.’
He tried again, this time swinging low. His sword met nothing but air. She’d stepped right out of it’s path.
‘We’re demigods, we’re all good at this. It doesn’t mean I’m anything like the rest of you.’
This time it was her that stepped forward. Like managed to bring his sword in front of his face as she hammered down at him. The echo rang around the ring.
‘Yet.’ He smirked.
They practiced into the late morning, until the sun was almost fully overhead. Luke had won every round. She had expected as much, she only knew a few basic moves, and she’d exhausted them in the first 30 seconds of sparring. He’d quickly learned her arsenal and had been untouchable after that.
She’d also expected that he would be smug about his victories, but that Luke was nowhere to be seen. At the end of each round he’d helped her up from the sand, complimented her stance or her footwork and then promptly got to work on her flaws; he’d been patient, and explained how to fix each one, letting her retry movements over and over until they were mastered. She was tired and sore, but a small part of her was beaming at the fact she’d managed to stand her ground at all. She’d watched him fight, she knew few people could withstand five minutes with Luke, let alone win. Maybe that small part of her was also a little proud.
‘You did well today.’ He said, reaching to take her sword. ‘You downplayed your skills, you’re miles ahead of where I thought we’d be.’
She handed it over with no complaints, glad to be taking a break at last, and gave a small shrug in response. He was being nice, and it wasn’t lost on her. Chiron had probably told him to butter her up. She went to turn away, but a hand on her shoulder stopped her.
‘Hey,’ he span her around to face him again and she was keenly aware of the warm hand that was still on her, ‘I mean it. I don’t know about you, but I had fun this morning, normally it sucks when everyone goes home, I’m glad I’ve still got someone to spar with.’
Nice. Still so nice.
‘I’d hardly call it sparring, I could barely keep up with you.’
He sighed, letting the hand on her shoulder guide her to the bench beside them. She slumped onto it. She hasn’t realised how tired she was until her legs met the wood, then it was all she could take not to sprawl across it and fall fast asleep.
‘Because you’re still holding back.’ Luke said as he began to untie her leathers, kneeling on the sand in front of her. She didn’t stop him, she wasn’t sure she had the energy to try. ‘There’s more fight in you, I know it.’
He gently slid off her arm coverings before lifting a leg into his lap, nimble fingers unlacing another set of straps. He could feel her eyes on him, on his face, but kept his own on the laces in his hands.
‘We all start somewhere,’ he continued, eager to fill the silence, ‘by the time the others are back next summer, you’ll be flying. Everyone will want you on their team.’
She stayed quiet.
‘I was a sorry state when I first arrived, I could barely keep my helmet on. Clarisse knocked me on my ass at every opportunity, so believe me, I know how that feels. But I saw you this summer, you can already hold your own. No infirmary visits after capture the flag, no broken armour, no chore duty- you’re already doing better than I was.’
He didn’t look up from his work as he continued talking. If he had, he might’ve seen her misty eyes or her wobbling lip, or the way her hands were gripping the bench so hard her knuckles were turning white.
‘Chiron thinks you’re a natural, we’ve just got to tap into that part of you. I think if we just work on-‘
Finally Luke looked up. She’d tried to keep the tear from falling, but it was too late. It fell onto her lap, followed by another, and another. He opened his mouth to speak but Alex was already on her feet, walking away from the sparing ring. Away from him.
‘Alex wait!’ He jumped up, dropping the leathers from his lap in the process. He had to jog to keep up, she showed now signs of waiting. ‘Alex come on, slow down!’
By the time he caught up with her she’d made it halfway back to the cabins, arms wrapped tightly around her body. He side stepped her, holding his arms wide to stop her from going any further.
‘Please move Luke.’ She said in barely a whisper, trying to push past him.
‘Not until you tell me what’s wrong,’ he said, placing his hands on her shoulders and leaning down to her eye level, leaving her nowhere to look but at him. ‘I thought we- I thought you enjoyed this morning? That was a great session!’
‘Luke I don’t want-‘
He cut her off before she could finish.
‘No more not wanting to talk about it, let’s have it out.’ He breathed, ‘almost everyone has gone home, you can talk to me. I just want to help, if you explain, maybe I can.’
She reached up to where his hands rested on her shoulders, and gently peeled them away. She stepped back, then to the right, and made to move past him again. She avoided his gaze, but his glare burnt into the back of her head. As she walked, she could hear the crack of twigs under his feet as he followed.
‘Okay, so you don’t want to talk. Noted.’ Luke gritted out as he fell into step beside her. He didn’t mess the way she sped up, trying to outpace him. ‘You don’t want to come to dinner, noted. You just want to cry it out alone in the middle of the night, noted.’
That was enough to make her falter, and dare a glance in his direction. But she didn’t stop walking.
‘Alex,’ he tried, softly. His tone made it sound like a plea. It hurt her chest. ‘Alex I just want to help you.’
She slowed down, not because she wanted to, but because they were nearing the edge of the cabins and it wasn’t a conversation she felt like having in front of Clarisse. She turned to him, looking up into his concerned face.
Nice. And handsome. So devastatingly handsome. She’d seen carvings of Hermes, and a few paintings here and there; to her, Luke held no resemblance to the god, to his father. The thought struck her then that his mother must’ve been the beautiful one, the kind one.
‘I don’t know what Chiron promised you, or what Mr D offered you. Whatever it is, just tell them you helped me and claim it- I’ll play along if they ask.’
‘They didn’t ask me to help you, or take pity on you. You’re cabin 11, that makes you my problem.’ She winced at that. ‘Look I’m just saying, you’re one of us, a Hermes kid, for now anyway. We stick together.’
‘And if I get claimed? What then?’ She asked, ‘I’m out on my ass again aren’t I? I won’t be a Hermes kid anymore.’
He wanted to correct her, but he knew there was a semblance of truth to what she said. She wouldn’t be his ‘problem’ if she went to another Cabin, her well-being would be the responsibility of whoever was counsellor there.
‘I don’t want to settle into a life here, only to have it ripped out from under my feet. I’ve had that so many times before, I’m tired of being disappointed.’
‘Then I won’t.’
‘You won’t what?’
‘I’m not going to disappoint you.’ Luke said firmly. He dared a step closer, holding out his hand in a silent deal. ‘I promise I won’t disappoint you, even if you end up an Ares kid or some snotty nosed Aphrodite kid. We’ve got all year to figure this out, the cabin is quiet enough that even if you’re claimed next week you can stay for a while. I promise you won’t ever be, what was it you said? Out on your ass.’
She looked at him then, and he could see it. A tiny smile, right in the left corner of her mouth.
She shook his hand.

[230303] ATEEZ are showing the world another side of K-pop by Taylor Glasby of i-D
Going stratospheric despite their small agency beginnings, the arena headliners discuss manifesting success and their secret ambitions.
ATEEZ have just played a raucous show to 20,000 fans at London’s O2 Arena. Backstage, with the adrenalin still pumping, Hongjoong, Seonghwa, Yeosang, Mingi, San, Wooyoung, Yunho and Jongho are talking about football. Mingi, deep-voiced, his cropped hair cotton candy pink, is a Chelsea fan. Jongho, the band’s youngest at 22, follows Spurs. “Which is better?” asks Mingi. My tentative, uninformed guess (“Spurs?”) yields triumphant hoots and disappointed groans, as Jongho reaches over for a fist bump and hi-five. This exchange isn’t so much about football, as it is a reflection of ATEEZ wanting to make everyone they encounter feel welcome – a habit unchanged despite their stratospheric rise through the global pop landscape since debuting in late 2018.
During their week-long stay, they meet fans (known as ATINY) at a signing event, make late-night TikToks beneath the glow of Big Ben, go live on YouTube from a cosy corner of a hotel room, and watch South Korean forward Son Heungmin score at a Tottenham Hotspur game. The club’s home stadium (soon to host Beyoncé’s five London concerts) leaves a lasting impression on Yeosang: “When I saw how big it was and how loud the people were, I thought about how I want to be an artist that can play there,” he says in his slightly raspy voice. Wooyoung’s thoughts, however, linger Stateside in the wake of their most recent EP, Spin Off: From The Witness, earning them a second Top 10 entry on the Billboard 200 in early January. “I don’t know if it’s a team goal or my own,” he admits, “but I do want a #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Hoping for it to happen is the easy part, but what’s necessary is the confidence and bravery in the belief that it will happen.”
ATEEZ’ ambitious nature is an overarching constant to their rapid growth as individuals and artists, useful as both a touchstone of their success and a beacon for their creative output. It was present on their first record, Treasure EP1: All To Zero, which set up a rebellious narrative (now a complex and sprawling alt-world storyline) just as much as it drives their meteoric singles and the exploratory genre-overlaps of their B-sides. As a result, they’ve become a prolific and landmark group. The World EP.1: Movement (their ninth EP, out in July 2022) was ATEEZ’ first platinum-selling release, a major accomplishment for an idol group from a relatively small K-pop agency.
Hongjong, the band’s leader, thinks and talks fast (today, in English) but he pauses to take a moment to muse over their trajectory. “Many people say that I can be proud of being a group from a small company that has made their own way. So if we continually do it like this with ATINY, then in the future people might agree that ATEEZ have made a change in K-pop. I think for now though, we haven’t done enough.”
They hope, notes Seonghwa (the band’s eldest member at 24), that their achievements will eventually be on a broader scale. “We’d love to be the people behind that movement,” he says. Hongjoong nods in agreement: “I want for us to provide people with a better understanding of K-pop worldwide. There are people who continue to say that K-pop is so technical and manufactured but K-pop isn’t just a single genre; each group has a different type of art and I want to show how we express our art to everyone. When I look into the crowd at concerts, I can see so many people of all ages and backgrounds yet stereotypes against the artists and the fans still exist.”
In the early days of ATEEZ, it was evident that Hongjoong and Mingi played a key role alongside their music production team, Edenary, and that a sense of individualism seemed to be encouraged in the group’s performances. These are both now acknowledged as strengths in their arsenal. The Fellowship: Break The Wall, their third world tour, serves to highlight their unified stance while showcasing the members’ idiosyncrasies — from dance style to sense of humour — but also how comfortably they inhabit the stage.
“During our 2019 Expedition tour, we learned a lot about how to perform with every show we did,” says Yunho, an effortlessly impressive dancer. “Then during the pandemic, we studied and developed how to really make the performance; working on the stage configuration and synchronisation of moves amongst ourselves. When we came back to Europe and the US last year for the Fellowship: The Beginning of the End tour, we were able to see how everything we’d worked on and our personal growth came together on that stage.”
For some members, the process has involved looking beyond the stage in order to feel more at home on it. Yeosang’s regimented program of working out put him physically and mentally in a stronger place: “I relieve my stress while exercising, but my breathing got better and my muscles also got better, so overall it connected into a great result on stage.” San and Seonghwa also turned inward, sifting through mental libraries of borrowed or imaginary traits to build and inhabit new characters for their performances.
“I always have a lot of imaginative thoughts,” says Seonghwa, whose general serenity is replaced by a lightning-strike energy on stage and sparks of playfulness when you least expect it. “Even before sleeping, I tend to think about fantastical things,” he continues. “I use these to decide on how I’m going to be on stage and make sure the atmosphere matches with elements like my outfit.”
“For San, it’s movies and dramas [that inspire his performances], he takes those characters on,” explains Wooyoung. San, widely lauded for having an explosive stage presence, makes his creative choices the day of. “If there’s something I think of that I want to do that day, I share it with everyone to see if it will be okay. Then we create that image together and I simply express myself.”
Wooyoung, who is both mischievous and magnetic, looks to those he admires for guidance. “I mostly look at videos of our seniors – Jimin (BTS), Taeyang (Big Bang), Hoshi (SEVENTEEN), there’s so many – I get inspiration from them and make it my own on stage.” It’s a process also adopted by Yunho. “There are artists that I can pull from, like Rain, learning from them in order to realise my own style,” Yunho says. “On stage, it’s just me, I’m myself, but I have all this in the back of my mind.”
The title of their current tour, The Fellowship: Break The Wall, is derived from last summer’s single, “Guerrilla”, on which the phrase “break the wall” is chanted with increasing ferocity, culminating in a screamo-style vocal outro. It’s one of the show’s many high points, with ATINY putting their everything into screaming along with the band. The atmosphere grows feverish, the stage bathed in red light as the giant screens flash through the dystopian city of their storyline. It’s unbridled to the point of being transcendental. San grins, reflecting on this moment. “It’s difficult to explain,” he says of the experience, while Hongjoong sees in it the removal of cultural barriers through music. “I see ATINY during ‘Guerrilla’ singing along really loud and really tough,” he says. “They come to our show, they memorise our lyrics, they shout. That’s how they’re breaking the wall, by coming together.”
Since last October, ATEEZ have been playing arenas across Asia, the US and Europe, adding extra nights as they go in order to accommodate the demand, and garnering rave reviews — even from broadsheet media, for whom K-pop remains a confusing phenomenon — in the process. But their feet, heart and heads remain earthbound. “Nothing in this world is guaranteed,” says Wooyoung. “We’re always grateful for everything. It’s something we’ve discussed as a group, but it’s all thanks to ATINY’s love and support that we’re where we are now. To become global artists and a good influence on even more people, we have to hold a sense of responsibility to give our all on stage and deliver our truth. Honestly, it’s less about dreaming of an unknown future and more about how we have to work harder so we can go even higher and pave our own path.”
ATEEZ’ success is holistic in form: personality, performance and music. A harmonious but intriguing balance of authenticity and polish. Their impressive discography features recurring motifs (waves, moon, light) and ideologies (power, truth, rebellion, movement), yet Mingi and Hongjoong — who have written lyrics on every ATEEZ track so far — admit they’re still learning how best to combine what’s on their minds with what’s conducive to furthering their storyline. It is, they agree, not always an easy task.
“It’s absolutely hard to focus on so many themes,” says Hongjoong. “Sometimes my brain stops, so I watch movies or our music videos again. I think too much when I write but, after that work, the lyrics have more power for the fans who know our storyline; they get different emotions and a different effect when I’ve done that work well. It’s really hard but it’s important to do.”
Hongjoong had an epiphany when he picked up a camera while touring last year. “There's such fierce competition – not just in music but all industries – so if there’s no purpose, I’ve always found it really hard to create freely. We have continuous deadlines. I do the first album, then the second, and once I complete the second album I have to start on the third. I’ve found my hobby with a film camera. I walk around taking photos and I can see that even if I have no immediate purpose, I can create something.” It’s something that’s changed his approach to songwriting. “These days, when I write lyrics or produce a song, I just start from zero,” he explains. “Before, if we had a pirate theme, for example, I would start with that as a topic. That’s why I found it so hard.” He now works backward, getting down exactly what he wants to say before connecting it to the narrative markers. “It’s quite different but it’s more comfortable for me and the results are better than before.”
Hongjoong and Mingi, the group’s rappers, point to last year’s "Halazia” as the hardest storyline track to pen. “The atmosphere of the song is already quite difficult and complex,” Hongjoong notes, looking over to Mingi, who explains his process of cataloguing his many thoughts to later draw from. “I write down a lot of them as memos on my phone, so I always go back to them to see if they match what we’re going through (as a group); that’s how I write my lyrics,” he says. “Sometimes I’ll think of it as writing a script, to really get into that persona."
Mingi and Hongjoong are not the only collectors and creators in ATEEZ. “In my case,” says Seonghwa, “I always memo whenever I hear a line from a song or a line from a poem that I like, just for me to look back on. I’m the type to jot down my feelings if I experience something special. These help me when I write letters or want to say something to ATINY because I’m able to better word my feelings.” San, meanwhile, cites legendary South Korean poet 나 태주 (Ra Tae-joo) as an influence. “I love poems too — I’ve been writing my own but I keep them to myself,” he says. “They can be about my feelings on a certain day, the weather, objects or characters. I’m able to lay out my feelings like this.”
Now in their fourth year, ATEEZ remain as set on the idea of constantly challenging themselves as they were when they were hungry rookies. Take Jongho for example, whose rich, gut-punching vibrato forms the backbone of many of their songs. When he listened back to The World EP.1: Movement for the first time, he admits that he was “worried because my voice was used in ways that I hadn’t tried before, and I wondered how my vocal colour was going to fit”. He sat down with their producers and worked through “how we could still make it still an ATEEZ song and match my tone, while trying something new. I’ve gained more confidence — it makes me want to do better for all the albums to come.”
Hongjoong laughs. “It means our next albums are, uh, a big thing,” he reveals, knowingly. “There are so many good K-pop and pop stars that if we want to go higher, we have to have more good songs and try other genres, too.” But even as he muses on ATEEZ’ continuing expansion, the idea of one day becoming ‘too big to fail’ doesn’t appeal to him. “No, absolutely not that,” he says, gaze steady. “I want ATINY to be able to tell us if something is bad. I like it when they do this because we don’t want to just give them our popularity. I want to give them good quality, not just a song or a video or a performance.” Does the fact that music is subjective; that no single song can please everybody, bring some comfort? “We try to find the middle ground,” Hongjoong says. “The first thing to note is that if we think it’s really great but someone else says that they think it’s trash, then we don’t really care what they think. But when we’re unsure and questioning and someone says, ‘Yeah, it’s bad’, then ok, we go back to square one.”
The thought of ATEEZ honing their creative output through repeated baptisms of fire might well upset some fans, but the band are not only accustomed to the fame game’s highs and lows but wholly pragmatic in the face of its shadows. So when Wooyoung says he’s aware of “many people” who openly disparage their music, Hongjoong shrugs a little as he responds. “Yeah, there are. We talk about this a lot together, but if there are many more haters than before, it just means we’re more popular than before,” he reasons.
The group finds positive equilibrium via a heartfelt focus on ATINY, and all that comes with being an idol group who are years into a very successful career. “When we look at line-ups now, we’re closing the show,” says Wooyoung. “And as we perform, we see the other artists watching us, and we realise we have more responsibility. Firstly to ATINY, who have been loving us and supporting us from the start, but there’s also a responsibility to spread K-pop and Korean culture because we’re travelling around the world as Korean artists.”
One of ATEEZ many dualities is that while they have big, burning aspirations — Billboard charts, Grammys, performing at the Super Bowl — that make them look at each other starry-eyed, some of their ambitions are precious in a different way: they’re simpler, more immediate. “I’d like to be happier than the day before,” says Mingi. “And I want for us to never change our sincerity toward music and gratitude to our fans,” adds Seonghwa. This is echoed by San, who adds that ultimately, “I’d be satisfied if ATEEZ’ name came up when someone asks who the coolest artist is at the end of the year.”
“I want to make more events with ATINY,” says Hongjoong. “That’s a goal for this year because we always miss them and they always miss us.” Jongho, sitting in the middle of the group, is smiling. He’s been manifesting a more personal ambition. “By next winter I want to be able to snowboard,” he says. “I want to buy my own board, go down the mountain and not fall.”

After the governmental collapse first occurred, I went all over Twitter to check the profiles of various comedians I like, particularly the ones who have ever expressed a remotely political opinion and seem to have some knowledge of current affairs, because there are basically no topical comedy shows airing right now and I needed to know how that was going. I kept checking regularly for a few days, and then I slowed down with that, because things have calmed down slightly (I mean, it’s still intense, but there is a bit of a waiting game at this point and I’m trying to keep my bar for what makes me check Twitter very high), so I can probably wait until the new season of The Last Leg starts this Friday before getting more updates from comedians.
But I’ve kept up with doing one thing a few times a day, and that’s checking Nish Kumar’s Twitter. This is mainly because he’s very knowledgeable about the political situation and keeps making new jokes about it; he has much more than a few days worth of these in his arsenal. He’s firmly in his element right now, with the current state of the world tailor made for him to say amusing things about it, and I want to catch all those things. So there’s that, but if I’m honest, my looking at Nish Kumar’s Twitter page is also very slightly about checking that he’s, you know, okay. Which is a concern that I realize may verge on the parasocial, but in my defence, by that definition everyone who regularly checks famous people’s Twitter accounts is being parasocial, at least I only do it on special occasions.
Anyway, this post is not about the political situation in the United Kingdom or about how Nish Kumar is coping with an extra intense surge of racists on his social media. It’s about a Tweet I saw today and I can’t figure out what it means:
Tumblr media
I clicked on it, and found this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s been years since I’ve followed the MCU, I have no intention of watching the new Thor movie, I don’t give a shit about spoilers, what are these people talking about? I tried a bit of Googling and couldn’t find an answer immediately. I could keep looking harder, or I could just ask the people on this website, because someone here must know. I realize MCU has gone out of fashion on Tumblr, but with everyone’s current obsession with Taika Waititi, people must have watched it. In fact, I find it surprising that I haven’t already learned the answer to this from Tumblr, because it seems like the sort of thing that would be news among the people I follow.
I’m trying to think of people who are well known publicly as being friends with Nish Kumar, and are also famous enough so they could be cast as a major character in the MCU. My first thought was Acaster, but Google brought up nothing about that, and I feel like if that had happened my Tumblr feed really would have exploded with people talking about it. Also he has a music and food podcast, but I don’t think he has a movie one. I know of several podcasts on which Nish Kumar has been a guest, in fact I’m in the middle of listening to Nish Kumar do an episode of one podcast right now, but I don’t think even the most truth-stretching view could see The Bugle as a movie podcast and I’m relatively certain Andy Zaltzman has not been cast as a Marvel villain.
I realize a little more Googling will bring me the answer, but it’s such a weird puzzle that I want to come up with a few more guesses first. Someone who is friends with Nish Kumar, and this friendship is well known enough in the public eye for that Twitter user to have immediately thought of Nish when they saw this person, but not such a significant part of Britcom that this news has been all over my Tumblr feed (as I imagine it would be if a major Britcom person got cast in something like that). They have a movie podcast, Nish has been on it. And they’re famous enough to get cast in a major role in a Marvel movie.
I did think of Ronny Chieng, Googled that, and was reminded that he’s already someone else in the MCU. I guess that’s another criterion I have to add, somehow finding famous actors who haven’t already been cast by the MCU.

Defence Secretary Grant Shapps recently delivered a compelling speech at Lancaster House in London, addressing the evolving threats facing Britain and the measures needed to ensure national security. Reflecting on the past, Shapps drew parallels with the optimism of the post-Cold War era, noting how contemporary threats differ significantly from those of the past.   The Following is the Exact Speech as Delivered Thirty-five years ago, Margaret Thatcher gave a short speech here in Lancaster House. She spoke of her optimism about the changes taking place between East and West. Barely two weeks later the Berlin Wall fell. It was the dawn of a new era. Existential threats were banished. And a new global feel good factor spread to Defence. This was the age of the peace dividend. The notion that while our defences should be maximised at times of tension they could be minimised in times of peace. Conflict didn’t disappear of course. But with no great power menacing the continent, peace gave the impression of being just around the corner. Yet, not everyone got the memo. In fact our adversaries were mobilising. The belligerent autocratic state was making a comeback - havin got away with the illegal annexation of Crimea in 2014, Putin launched his brutal invasion of Ukraine eight years later. And as Russia continues its illegal campaign in Ukraine, China is assessing whether the West loses its patience. Today, Russia and China have been joined by new nuclear, and soon to be nuclear, powers. North Korea promising to expand its own nuclear arsenal. And then there is Iran, whose enriched uranium is up to 83.7%, a level at which there is no civilian application. Back in the days of the Cold War there remained a sense that we were dealing with rational actors. But these new powers are far more unstable, and irrational. Can we really assume the strategy of Mutually Assured Destruction that stopped wars in the past will stop them in future, when applied to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard or North Korea? I am afraid we cannot. Particularly since there is now another new worrying consideration: Our adversaries are now more connected with each other. For example, we have seen how Iranian proxies are causing havoc from Israel to the Red Sea. That Russia has what the two countries describe as a “no limits partnership” with China - with whom they conduct regular joint exercises. Meanwhile, Putin is relying on Iranian drones and North Korean ballistic missiles to fuel his illegal bombardment in Ukraine. With friends like these, the world is becoming more dangerous and has done in recent years. But the other threats that plagued the start of the 21st century haven’t gone away. The spectre of terrorism and threats from non-state actors, as October 7 showed, still haunts the civilised world. Put it all together, and these combined threats risk tearing apart the rules-based international order – established to keep the peace after the Second World War. Today’s world then, is sadly far more dangerous. With the UN reporting that we are facing the highest number of violent conflicts since the Second World War. Now some argue these threats are not existential to the UK. And yet, what happens elsewhere, quickly happens here. In the past few years we’ve seen terror attacks on the streets of London, attempted assassinations in Salisbury, theft of Intellectual Property, attempted interference in our political processes, a cost-of-living crisis, brought to you by Putin, that’s hurting families here at home. And now, our trade. 90 per cent of which comes by sea, is the target of terrorists. Proving that not only do our adversaries have the intent to target us but they have a widening array of weapons with which to wreak havoc. In our online world our adversaries don’t need to jump in a tank board a sub or strap into a fighter jet to hurt us. Cyber warfare simply means hacking into our networks and watching the economic carnage unfold. Last year, almost a third of businesses in the UK suffered a cyber breach or attack. And the total cost to the UK economy runs into billions. We know significant numbers of these attacks come from Russia and China where they are also developing satellite killing technology, capable of degrading us from space. Even mass migration can be cynically used against us as a weapon of war, as Poland, Norway, and Finland have been experiencing. In other words, nation states plus non-state actors with greater connections between them plus more creative weapons all adds up to more trouble for the world. Over the last decade this government has made great strides to turn the Defence tanker around. The refreshes of the Integrated Review and Defence Command Paper have been instrumental in ensuring Britain is defended in this more dangerous world. We’ve uplifted our defence spending – investing billions into modernising our Armed Forces and bringing in a raft of next generation capabilities, from new aircraft carriers to F35s; from new drones to Dreadnought submarines; from better trained troops; to the creation of a national cyber force. And when the world needed us, we have risen to the moment. Giving Ukraine our unwavering support and galvanising others to their cause, including with our biggest ever funding package, announced last week. Taking action, we work to stamp out the global ambitions of Daesh. We’ve acted at the forefront of global responses to maintain regional stability after October 7th by sending a Royal Navy Task Group, a company of Royal Marines, surveillance planes and lifesaving aid to Gaza. And taking a lead role within global forces to protect freedom of navigation in the Red Sea. Not only that but we’ve strengthened Britain’s place in the world with expanded partnerships from the Gulf to the Indo-Pacific. We’re playing a major part in stirring the West into a renewed commitment to defence, using our 2014 NATO summit in Newport to bring Alliance nations together to stop the rot, by committing to spending 2 per cent of GDP on Defence. Today, for the very first time this government is spending more than £50bn a year on Defence in cash terms, more than ever before. And we have made the critical decision to set out our aspiration to reach 2.5% of GDP spent on defence. And as we stabilise and grow the economy, we will continue to strive to reach it as soon as possible. But now is the time for all allied and democratic nations across the world to do the same. And ensure their defence spending is growing. Because, as discussed, the era of the peace dividend is over. In five years’ time we could be looking at multiple theatres involving Russia, China, Iran and North Korea. Ask yourselves – looking at today’s conflicts across the world - is it more likely that the number grows, or reduces? I suspect we all know the answer – it’s likely to grow. So, 2024 must mark an inflexion point. For Ukraine, this will be a year when the fate of their nation may be decided. For the world, this will be the greatest democratic year in history with nearly half of the world’s population going to the polls. And for the UK it must also be a moment to decide the future of our national defences. The choice is stark. Some people, especially on the left, have a tendency to talk Britain down. They believe Britain can no longer have the power to influence world events. That we should somehow shrink into ourselves and ignore what’s happening beyond our shores. I passionately believe these unpatriotic, Britain belittling doom-mongers are simply wrong. Their way would lead us sailing blindly into an age of autocracy. So we must make a different choice. And the history of our great island nation shows us the way. Britain has often accomplished the seemingly impossible before. Our history is littered with moments when we faced down the threat and triumphed. But looking ahead, we are in a new era and we must be prepared to deter our enemies, lead our allies, and defend our nation. In terms of deterrence, it’s about the UK gaining a strategic advantage over our enemies. The foundation of that advantage is, of course, our nuclear enterprise. At a time of mounting nuclear danger, our continuous at sea deterrent provides the ultimate protection. And that’s why we are spending around £31bn to bring in next generation Dreadnought submarines and upgrade our deterrent. In a more contested world, we need to bring that same goal of deterrence to our conventional forces – so we have made modernisation a critical priority. Taking the long-term capability decisions we need to transform our Armed Forces into a formidable deterrent. Enabling them to maintain the UK’s strategic advantage and empowering them to be able to deliver the outcomes we need in multiple theatres at once. The growing success of that work was powerfully shown last week when, in less than 24 hours, the UK was able to both take action to defend ourselves against the Houthis and uplift our support to Ukraine to new record levels. If Putin thought we’d be distracted by the events in the Middle East then last week, because of the long-term decisions this government has taken, his hopes were surely dashed. In a complex world, no nation can afford to go it alone, so we must continue strengthening our alliances so the world knows they cannot be broken. Defence is in many ways the cornerstone of our relations across the world. Our world leading Armed Forces, cutting-edge industrial base and willingness to support our allies is the reason why Britain is the partner of choice for so many. And among our partnerships, NATO remains pre-eminent. 75 years after its foundation, today NATO is bigger than ever. But the challenges are bigger too. That’s why the UK has committed nearly the totality of our air, land and maritime assets to NATO. But, in 2024, I am determined to do even more. Which is why I can announce today that UK will be sending some 20,000 personnel to lead one of NATO’s largest deployments since the end of the Cold War, Exercise Steadfast Defender. It will see our military joining forces with counterparts from 30 NATO countries plus Sweden, providing vital reassurance against the Putin menace. Our carrier strike group will be out in full force, with our magnificent flagship HMS Queen Elizabeth leading the way. And flying from her decks will be the fifth generation F35 lightning jets, accompanied by a fearsome phalanx of frigates, destroyers and helicopters. We’ll also have a submarine patrolling the depths and one of our Poseidon P8 aircraft conducting surveillance from the skies above, and more than 400 of our brilliant Royal Marines will be training in the Artic Circle, contending with some of the toughest environments anywhere on the planet. On land, we’ll be deploying over 16,000 soldiers, led by our 7th Light Mechanised Brigade Combat Team which superbly led our recent response in Kosovo. All of which, makes this our largest deployment of land forces to NATO for 40 years. But NATO is only part of our rich tapestry of partnerships. And this government has taken bold decisions to embark on the partnerships we need to defend ourselves from a more dangerous world. We are rapidly building our AUKUS partnership. And last month I signed our Global Combat Air Partnership (or GCAP) with Japan and Italy. These projects are not just about building nuclear powered subs, sixth generation fighter planes, and innovating in all forms of Defence. They are about sharpening our strategic edge so we can maintain our advantage over our adversaries. They are precisely the deep relationships needed to preserve national and regional security. And they’re emblematic of the way we will work in the future. But it’s not enough to deter. We must lead. Standing up for our values around the world. And Ukraine is a test case. This year, its future may well be decided. Valiant Ukrainian warriors have had incredible success pushing back invading Russian forces, retaking 50 per cent of the territory stolen by Russia, opening up a maritime passage in the Black Sea. But the West must not let them down. British leadership has already had a galvanising effect. We’ve convened some 10 countries to help Ukrainians train here in the UK. And today I can announce that our programmes have now trained over 60,000 Ukrainian troops since Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine in 2014. Last month, I launched a new maritime coalition with Norway to defend Ukraine’s maritime flank. Since then, over 20 partner nations have joined that coalition. But the international community cannot let this support slip. Putin believes the West lacks staying power. And since the future of the world order is at stake, we must prove him wrong. Rewarding his war with victory would only increase the risk of escalation. Not only because he’s hell bent on rebuilding the Russian empire. But because it would signal weakness to other would-be aggressors. That is why on Friday the Prime Minister signed the historic UK-Ukraine Agreement on Security Cooperation. The start of a 100-year alliance that we are building with our Ukrainian friends. It sees us increasing our military support to £2.5bn – taking the total of UK military aid to more than £7bn. With even more gifted directly from the UK’s equipment inventory. £200m will be pressed into producing and procuring thousands of drones, including surveillance and long-range strike drones. This continues the UK’s proud record as a leading donor - always being the first to get Ukraine exactly what they need. The UK was the first to provide Ukraine with weapons training, the first to provide NLAW anti-tank missiles, the first to give modern tanks, the first to send long range missiles. Now we will become the largest provider of drones too. These will be manufactured here in the UK in tandem with international partners, helping to enhance our unmanned vehicle capabilities at home too. But our new agreement with Ukraine is about so much more than money. It formalises our support in everything from intelligence sharing and cyber security to medical and military training. And it sees us taking the first giant step towards a century long partnership. Britain understands that the battle in Ukraine is existential, it proves there is no such thing as an isolated conflict. And that to shore up the international order, we must be able to act globally. So, just as we were there to help evacuate British citizens from Sudan last year, just as we are working with partners to ensure the territorial integrity of our Commonwealth ally Guyana, we have also been a critical part of the US-led international operation to protect freedom of navigation in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. Some 15 per cent of the world’s shipping passes through these narrow shipping lanes. But the Houthis have persistently violated the law by menacing commercial vessels in the region. In the Red Sea we have seen how our brilliant Royal Navy had to act to defend itself against the intolerable and growing number of Houthi attacks. And earlier this month the world sent a very clear message to the Iranian-backed Houthis. End your illegal and unjustified actions. Stop risking innocent lives. Cease threatening the global economy. We could not have been clearer with our warnings, which they chose to ignore. And enough was enough. So last Thursday, the Prime Minister and I authorised RAF precision strikes using four RAF Typhoon FGR4s and supported by two Voyager air refuelling tankers. The result is the Houthis have been dealt a blow. Our decisive response in the Red Sea and our uplift in support for Ukraine offer a direct blueprint for how the UK must continue to lead in the future. Offering our unwavering support to our allies, and in times of struggle galvanising global responses to any malign actor seeking to break the rules based international order, and acting decisively when the moment calls for us to defend ourselves. So, deter and lead, which brings me to the final essential element of being prepared. Defending our nation. If we are to defend our homeland, we must ensure our entire defence eco-system is ready. Firstly, we must make our industry more resilient to empower us to re-arm, re-supply and innovate far faster than our opponents. There’s a huge opportunity here for British industry. The UK has long been a by-word for pioneering technologies. We gave the world radar, the jet-engine and the world wide web. We’ve not lost that spark of creativity. On the contrary, today the UK is one of only three $1 trillion tech economies. But just imagine what we could do if we managed to better harness that latent inspiration, ingenuity and invention for the Defence of our nation? Just think about the game-changing tech we could supply to our brave men and women. From the pilots ready to scramble at a moment’s notice to the soldiers protecting NATO’s flanks from Putin’s fury. To the sailors deployed across the seven seas to secure our prosperity. To our absolutely essential Royal Marine Commandos, without whom we could not properly defend our nation. To those you will never see and never know but who are out there, giving their all, on your behalf. They are the cornerstone of our defence and we owe them an unimaginable debt of gratitude. Which is why my commitment to getting them what they deserve is iron cast. After all, our greatest resource has always been the men and women who work tirelessly to protect our great nation. But to defend our nation from the increasing dangers of tomorrow, they must have what they need to do the job. That’s why this Conservative government has always and has already taken vital steps to increase defence spending, approving the largest sustained increase in defence spending since the Cold War – injecting a further £5 billion last year to replenish our stocks and modernise our nuclear enterprise. Delivering the largest cash terms defence budget ever. Spending over £50 billion on the defence of our nation. And just last week, not only maintaining our support to Ukraine but increasing it to its highest level ever. To some the costs may seem steep – but Britain cannot afford to reverse the spending gains we have made. And under this Conservative government we never will. And we will use our influence to ensure other allies and friends, faced with this new reality, and match our commitment. So, we find ourselves at the dawn of a new era. The Berlin Wall a distant memory. And we have come full circle. Moving from a post-war to a pre-war world. An age of idealism has been replaced by a period of hard-headed realism. Today our adversaries are busily rebuilding their barriers. Old enemies are reanimated. New foes are taking shape. Battle lines are being redrawn. The tanks are literally on Europe’s Ukrainian lawn. prompt: School is not your cup of tea.
warnings: self-doubt, crying, fluff at the end though
a/n: isn’t it crazy i wrote this while procrastinating my homework, crazy huh. enjoy!
School was never your strong suit, instead of being locked inside a classroom for hours and hours to listen to your teachers ramble on and on, you would rather spend your time outside on the football pitch. It’s not a lack of effort, because you sure tried to excel on your homework and exams, you would stay up late to try to study and focus, but your brain would get jumbled up and you could not retain information to save your life. It just felt you were always behind a step from your peers and it felt like they were all smarter than you, so why try? Always trying to even begin to grasp a concept and the teacher has already moved on to the next lesson. You had completely stopped doing your assignments and on some days, even stopped showing up.
Unfortunately, signing an Arsenal contract at a young age, the club forced to you to complete your studies and graduate. This felt like an impossible accolade, you hated school and apparently, school hated you too. The classroom felt like a prison and you were a felon. Luckily, you were able to transfer to an online school, but your inability to focus mixed with insecurities of stupidness and failure, you still were not doing well in your classes. Even though you spent every waking second that you weren’t on the pitch trying to submit work.
Right after training today, you set up a work station in the lounge, hoping to have some peace and quiet as exam week was coming up and you had to pass to finish school, finally. Headphones on, computer and notes out, you were ready to start knocking out your growing to-do list for the day. Until you heard an irish accent that was all too familiar.
“Y/N!!!” Come out to the pitch, Caitlin and Kyra are going to teach us some Australian rugby” Katie pleaded with you as she came into the lounge. It sounded like she was not going to be taking ‘no’ as an answer. You had yet to make a single dent in your coursework, but how could you pass up the opportunity to escape school?
“Oh I am so in.” you tell her, throwing your headphones out and shutting your computer. Right before you could make it outside the door, you hear your name being called.
“Y/N” you turn to see it is Leah calling your name, using her finger for you to come to her.
“Leah lay off, let her come playyyyy” Katie whined like a two year old that was denied a snack before dinner.
“Yeah listen to Katie!” you said as you tried to convince her to let you have some fun, knowing whatever she was about to say to probably wasn’t about to be fun.
“Katie, run out. Y/N needs to complete her coursework” Leah sternly stated. Once the words left her mouth, the smile that was previously on your face left in an instant. Once again, school coming around to ruin not only your mood but also your day.
Leah pulled your arm back into the lounge where Beth and Viv were standing in. Upon seeing your teammates, you knew they weren’t here to just lounge around. Leah ushered you two sit back at your designated school spot. The girls all took a seat, great now an intervention.
“Y/N, your online professors contacted the club and mentioned how you are behind on every single one of your classes. Some said you haven’t even submitted some of the assignments.” Leah said out, a tone of anger and disappointment in her voice.
They just didn’t get it, not everyone is good at school. You tried, tried, and tried to be someone who was ‘smart’ and did their work on time and always received the best marks, but that wasn’t you. Lessons were far from easy and the work you submitted, that you would spend days groveling over, would receive low marks and your teachers would write comments that shot down your confidence. It seemed like you could never catch up and you hit a point where you were so far behind that it felt physically impossible and overwhelming to catch up. The thoughts forming in your head caused tears to begin to well into your eyes.
“Im trying. I am trying to hard. But I am just stupid I guess.” you choked out to the girls who were now staring wide eyes at you. You were never a crier, usually keeping your emotions at bay, and you were typically always smiling and laughing.
“Liefde, please don’t say that about yourself.” Viv immediately cooed out, meeting you at you chair and holding you in for a hug.
You didn’t want to be in her arms, they all knew you were dumb and they were all disappointed in you, just like your teachers. “No Viv, it’s true. Everything takes me longer to understand. I can’t manage to focus through a 60 minute lesson, I turn my homework in late because it takes me so long. Everyone in the class is so much smarter than me. They deserve to graduate, not me.” you cried out. Your emotions had taken over you, everything you had been feeling in the last few months was coming to the surface.
“Y/N baby, why didn’t you come to us? We could have helped you when you were struggling.” Beth emphasized.
“I didn’t want you guys to know, it’s embarrassing that I can’t even finish secondary school!” you choked out. This is exactly what you didn’t want to happen. You thought they would all look at you differently now, if you were bad at school, maybe they thought you would be bad on the pitch too.
“Y/N it is not embarrassing to ask for help! Never, ever, be embarrassed to ask for help. That is what we are here for as your teammates and as your family.” Leah explained to you. Her voice was now laced with understanding and compassion. A group hug was had after as you had settled down and you started to now try to begin working on your work, the girls close by when you had questions.
Throughout the next few days, there would always be a teammate in the lounge, ready to answer any questions you had and proofread anything you were ready to submit. Alessia and Lotte were particularly helpful as they had graduated from university and always had the proper answers. Beth would always bring you a coffee on particularly hard days when she noticed the work was getting slightly difficult for you. Leah was on the tougher side, wanting you to explain why the answer was the answer rather than just giving you the answer.
After a few short weeks where you were now starting to hit your strides in your coursework, you had completely finished. All of the Arsenal girls gathered around you as you clicked submit on your final essay.
Beth quickly blindfolded you as she basically picked you up and lead you to what you assumed was a different room. When she removed your blindfold, you are met with a massive party. Balloons and streamers spread across the room and a cake that said ‘You did it’. The girls had thrown you a party to celebrate. Tears begin to brim in your eyes. Completing school was not an easy task for you, but alongside your teammates, you finally did it. You were simply the luckiest girl in the world.
“Thank you guys! This really means a lot” you smiled and happily said.
“We knew you could do it!” Leah added, pulling you in for a long, warm hug.

manic sense of nowhere
The worst in a while, it felt like, waking up. And you know what’s gonna happen. Up to the shops for a ring of poison. This can’t go on forever or even a long time … up through the woody path to the supermarket. There are a band of people on the path. Two families and they both have dogs. One of the dogs is off the leash. And when the woman sees you approach she rains on the dog to put the leach back on. And the dog cowers from her and flinches/twitches as if she’s about to kick it. The kids laugh at the dog’s panic, and imitate its fear, as you walk past, and this ugly channel of hurt and fright goes through you – because the woman probably does beat the dog and that’s why it was cowering. You remembered a similar thing up north where there was a man who kicked the dog to try and discipline it, and it ran away from him and shivered next to you, these icy shivers, terrified. You’ve never quite understood why somebody could be cruel to an animal. Then all these memories collide as you’re heading up the path and nothing else quite happens aside from you saluting the magpies which are out zapping in their black and white flurrying films. The walk seems long. Only if it’s only six minutes or so it seems way longer. There’s broken glass muddled with the ragged concrete. And a confused hotness of the month of May and the amazed leaves of the trees in their prime in a naïve immortal greenness. Onto the supermarket. Down to the back of the shop. They’ve hired some new people, these days. They look at your grey hair and beard and check you out and then you’re heading back home. Thirty memories zip and swipe about your head on the six minutes homeward and you may as well not be real, not be anybody; it’s impossible to remember who you were before the poison kicked in, and you wonder how you ever got to this point. You think about money. And about how desperate people are for money. You used to think about nothing but the shapes of the trees that you walk by now – but that was twenty five years back – and the trees seemed big then but they’re colossal now and doing far grander than you are. Into the house you go. Your cousin is coming around today and you haven’t seen him in fifteen years. Last time you saw him was in high school, a place which you never ever want to remember but somehow cannot forget. He’ll be here in about an hour, they say. You head up to your room and play a retro video game. Circa 2004. Made by clever Japanese chaps. And you get all emotional and nerdy as to how the game goes. Is this a waste of time? You remember when you got smacked around by other boys when you were younger. When your mother kicked you in the stomach when you were at that little holiday home in England, in order to show off to your grandmother. Blare blare blare, the violence never seems to stop. You beat Real Madrid in the computer game. Bravo. And then you play Manchester United or one of the other titans and then your cousin knocks on the door downstairs and you go down to meet him. It’s amazing how you still have to tactically fret how to greet people, be with them, at such an old age. But you do okay. There’s a handshake. His hand feels mealy. You ask him what he’s been up to. Says he was living in London for a long time … and that this triggered a nocturnal lifestyle. Said he hated it, and wished never going to London. You used to love the idea of London; but ten million people crammed into a claustrophobic block of the nation would probably make you go crazy too. And – umm, you’re already nocturnal anyway. You’ve always tended to live in the night hours, the nightowl y’are! … He’s funny, you’re cousin. He’s also huge: he’s six foot four. You chat about soccer. And the local Scottish team we both (unfortunately) follow. He says he concentrates on Arsenal more. Football often seems a go-to between men, and the easiest small-talk that males can seek out: because lots of them are nerdy and opinionated when it comes to that topic. Fine. You find a few of his opinions a bit harsh on a few of the athletes but you chuckle anyway. And you’ve gotta bounce down to the mall for a few things. “Is that you heading out?” he says. Yeah you respond and you leave the house and yomp down the main road and pass the pink blossom trees beside the Catholic primary school and they have actually lost a lot of their petals already and they lie in clogs in the gutters. It’s amazing how Time fastforwards without you quite noticing it. For just a few weeks ago the petals were in vainglorious white-pink surrounding the branches. You go past the park and there is almost nothing there save the sad goalposts. And onto the mall and into the Sainsbury’s there. The security guard follows you. This has happened to you before several times in the past and you have no clue what it is that makes them suspicious. Because you’ve never stolen anything. But – you aren’t held up or stopped and search and within five minutes you’re back outside in the hot mad brilliant May day, which isn’t sunny, but somehow crueller in heat within its sullen whiteness. You suppose you feel yourself getting older. But you’re not even so old yet. So it’s quite the contradiction. For forty days you’ve barely been able to rest for longer than three hour stretches, and awake with this wide paranoia … still locked in this offgrid place. This manic sense of nowhere.

Moment In Time
Pairing: Natasha Romanoff x Reader
Summary: Just when you've gotten out, you’re given a reason to come back.
Warnings: Nothing for now unless I missed something.
Chapter 1
* * * * * * *
Music plays in your ears as the surrounding area blurs past you. Taking yet another lap around the overly large fountain, you feel the smallest drop of sweat trickle down the side of your head.
Running for two and a half hours seems to finally be yielding results.
You slow down some and a quiet, sarcastic, chuckle falls from your lips when another group of joggers passes by. They’d gotten here an hour ago and they were practically dripping sweat.
With a shake of your head you finish the lap in a matter of minutes, stopping afterwards and taking your headphones out. You take a few deep breaths as you look around.
The New York sky is as blue as it always is this time of year. People stroll by about a yard from where you stand, the streets and sidewalks bustling as usual, a few other runners on the same trail you just took.
A contented sigh leaves your lips.
For the first time in years, a calm peace washes over you. It’d taken you years to come to the decision to stop working, followed by a few months to mentally settle into your “retirement” as you’d been told it was.
The world doesn’t exactly need you anymore, earth’s mightiest heroes are doing all the saving and protecting now. Some of them you trust with your life while others you haven’t even met. All in all, you believe they’ve been getting the job done fairly well. Which made your retirement all the more easy.
If not working feels like this, you take another deep breath, you could get used to it.
Adjusting your headphones back into your ears, you barely jog three feet into your next lap when your phone rings. Fishing it out of your pocket, you sigh at the name displayed at the top and answer.
“Agent Y/Ln,” Fury’s voice floats into your ears,“ I need a favor.”
Just like that, you get the feeling you aren’t going to have the chance to get used to retirement.
* * * * * * *
Another uniformed guard walks by, his eyes glancing over at the two people in the cell, before he continues his leisure stroll down the hall.
The brunette archer runs his tongue across his bottom lip, eyes narrowing just barely before yet another pebble flicks across the cell and bounces off the wall right beside the ear of an already agitated ex-assassin.
“Barton, I swear to god if another rock comes within a foot of my face I will kill you before these morons even have the chance to consider it.” Natasha seethes, jaw clenching in frustration.
Clint snorts to hold in a laugh, raising his hands in surrender.“ My bad.”
Sighing heavily for the millionth time today, Natasha leans her head back against the cement wall, fingers gingerly running over the uncomfortable matching cement floor.
“You sure you don’t wanna play finger football with me?” He asks, flicking a triangular piece of paper towards his friend.
“Clint what the h-” she glares from him to the paper then back,“ where did you even get that?”
Letting his amused smile show, he answers,“ my pocket,” with a casual shrug,“ never know when you’re gonna get captured by psychotic evil German scientists.”
Pinching the bridge of her nose, the red head holds in every noise of frustration and foul word in her arsenal. She already can’t believe she allowed herself to get captured, Clint’s incessantly childish behavior is only adding to her bad mood.
A mere eight hours ago she’d been on a very easy mission with her team. Infiltration and intel gathering was a form of work she was overly familiar with, having done it before and during her time with SHIELD and the Avengers.
But with a new recruit on the team, and this having been his first infiltration mission, figuratively communicative wires got crossed.
A simple “payload secure” came across as something different in Sam’s ears, what he heard she can’t even try to guess, but it led to him coming her way with a shit load of guards. Disgruntled sounds of fighting drew Clint to their location but even then the amount of enemies was overwhelming.
Distress calls were cut short and staticy through the short communication devices they had. So, being the only one with a clear and easy route out of the chaos, Sam was given the task to get out while he could and to send back up.
The seconds after he left, Natasha and Clint were taken, blinded, stripped of their weapons and comms, and brought to this cell.
While they were aware of the rescue coming for them, they still looked for a way out but found none. Especially not with the rotation of guards that patrolled by every half hour. Like clockwork, another was headed their way.
The whistling of an all too American song rang through the halls, slipping into the cell and grabbing the attention of both agents.
Clint’s eyebrows pinch together when the guard stops in front of the cell, then turns to face them. His calculating gaze trails over their body while an equally observant Natasha looks as well.
She stares at the guard, a stone cold expression masking her face as she commits your appearance to memory. Your eyes, hair, the build of your body currently clad in the same blue uniform as the other guards. Something was different though.
While the guards came off as exactly what they are, lackeys for whoever is running this show, you are much bigger. The look on your face isn’t as submissive and blank as the others.
Clint scoffs, leaning forward with his elbows on his knees, eyes scanning over you,“ what’re you? A new hire?” He asks sarcastically, deciding to speak as he knows Natasha won’t say a word.“ Send you in to intimidate us?”
A silent moment passes.
“Buddy, you think I’m the bad guy?” You tilt your head with a raised eyebrow. A little chuckle leaves your lips at the confused expression he pulls and the one Natasha tries to hide.
Taking a step closer to the cage, you slip your arms between the cast iron bars and lace your fingers together.“ I’m here to save your asses. Since you went and got yourselves captured.”
For the first time Natasha speaks, a velvety soft voice flowing from the cement box into your ears,“ who sent you?”
Her green eyes look into yours and that, coupled with her voice, intrigues you even more. Seeing as you are more than aware of who Black Widow is. But you know now isn’t the time to fall into a gay panic over a gorgeous woman.
“Fury.” You answer,“ it’s not often Nick calls in a favor so I had to come. Now, let’s say we get out of here yeah?” They both watch as you grab hold of the bars, pulling one good time, arms flexing as you easily break the lock and send the door sliding open and slamming into the wall.
Clint and Natasha share a look as you step inside, walking over to Clint and breaking his chains first, then going to do the same to Natasha.
You raise an eyebrow at her expression after breaking the first chain,“ listen red, you don’t have to trust me.” She stands up and looks down at you, until you rise up and look down at her.“ But you do need to trust Fury. Got any complaints, take it up with him after you’re not surrounded by a bunch of lunatics with guns.”
With that she watches you exit the cell, looking left and right, then waving them forward as you go left down the corridor.
The two agents follow you as you silently incapacitate every guard in your path, sharing a look for the third time today.
As you’re taking down your tenth guard, Clint looks from you to Natasha.“ Are we really supposed to believe they’re on our side? Cause,” he takes a deep breath and releases it.
“They’re trusted by Fury.” Natasha looks at her friend,“ and that’s all I need to know for now.”
Stopping in front of a door, you peek through the glass, then take a step back. You square your shoulders and adjust the cap on your head, smiling dazzlingly at the two.
“Do me a favor, wait around that corner,” you point to the opposite side of them where a dark empty pocket sits in the hallway,“ and try not to get captured again.” You wink and step into the room without another word.
They stare at the door you disappeared into, long enough to hear you speak.
“Wo sind die Gefangenen in Zelle 4 hingegangen?”
Natasha understood your words perfectly fine but Clint was a little lost. The short silence followed your continued shout of,“ Finde sie! Jetzt! Eile!”
Eyes wide Natasha grabs Clint’s hand and pulls them into the dark just before a slew of guards pour out of the room and down the same way you’d all just come from.
Clint and Natasha barely have a chance to blink before the door beside them opens. Sunlight streams through the door, followed by you coming out of the room.
“Figured you might want these back,” you say as you stop in front of them and hold their confiscated weapons out to them.
Clint is quick to sling his quiver around his shoulders, extending his bow and hugging it, a quiet ‘I missed you’ muttered under his breath toward the inanimate object.
A snort of a laugh leaves your lips before Natasha takes her batons from you and holsters them at her sides.
Taking your cap off, you toss it aside and smooth your hand through your hair.“ Cover was blown about thirty seconds ago so,” you nod to the outside,“ let’s get to that fancy jet you’ve got a few miles out before the fireworks start.”
Flashing another confident smirk, you slip out the door. The two agents follow closely behind you. All three of you work almost flawlessly in taking down the guards in your path to the jet.
It comes into view and you stop to let them run ahead of you, turning to look at the building as it seemingly spontaneously combusts in three specific locations.
Satisfied with your work, you nod and turn around. Almost all eyes are on you as you jog up the ramp into the jet. A silent crunch is heard before you toss crumpled plastic and wires out of your hand.
“Can’t have them tracing that back to us.” You say, stepping fully into the jet and looking around as the door closes behind you.
Stern blue eyes stare into yours, an almost upset march carrying him to stand in front of you.“ If there’s anyone alive.” He says angrily.“ Did you stop to think how many people you may have just killed?”
Your eyebrow quirks up at his tone of voice. Trailing your eyes down his body you mentally purse your lips and nod. Admittedly you could see why Peggy was so smitten. Assuming he didn’t take this type of attitude with her.
However you can’t say you’re taken with the Captain America. His already condescending attitude wasn’t something you liked and while you know it’s a possibility he’s just this way cause you don’t know each other, it’s also possible he’s just an ass. Either way he isn’t why you’re here.
“Captain,” you nod,“ always thought our first meeting would be more pleasant than this. But aye, they say you’re never supposed to meet your idols right.” You shrug and step around him, making to head to the front of the jet.
Only his hand grips your arm and he spins you around with a glare now on his flawless looking face.
Glancing down at the offending hand on your arm, you figure he’s nonverbally demanding an explanation so you give it.“ There were charges at both entrances and the security room. I made sure to send everyone away from those areas before I blew it up. There may be some minor injuries, if that. But next time I’ll just leave and give them every opportunity to come after us, Captain.” You tell him, gripping his hand in yours and prying it from your arm.
His glare turns to a slight look of surprise. While his grip hadn’t been enough to hurt an ordinary human, yours was equal to, if not potentially stronger, than his true strength. Enough force to have broken anyone else’s hand in multiple places.
“Who are you?” He asks, maintaining his attitude.
Not one for dealing with that, you mumble your name to him and go to the front of the jet.
Your blank face morphs into a smile at the sight of the man in the pilot's seat.“ Never was one to give up control huh?” You ask teasingly as you drop your hand on his shoulder.
His gaze lands on you with a quick snap of his head towards you. The smirk on your face and the fact that it was actually you, made him snicker.
Making quick work of throwing the jet on autopilot, he moved his chair back and stood up to pull you into a hug, to the shock and surprise of every member of his team.
“Good to see you T.” You pat his back before pulling away.
A smile tugs on his lips and he nods.“ Ditto. This doesn’t count by the way.” He points a finger at you as you clap your hand on his shoulder.
“It definitely counts. A save is a save. Might not have been you exactly but-”
Waving you off he mumbles,“ yeah yeah.” Then looks at his teammates, his arm wrapping around your shoulders despite the height difference.“ I take it you met the team.” He says to which you nod.
“Can’t say they’re all that fond of me.” You chuckle softly, eyes scanning over the still agitated Captain America, a man in a modified flight suit, and the two people you just saved.“ Are they always so annoyed when they get their asses saved or is it me?”
Tony shrugs,“ Capsicle always been a little icy.” He jokes and you laugh, shaking your head and pushing him away from you.“ Nat is- well she’s Nat. I think she’s starting to warm up to me but that’s taken quite a bit of time hasn’t it Romanoff?”
His gaze directs to the redhead and you follow it. Your eyebrow raises at the mocking smile she gives Tony followed by her asking,“ who exactly is Y/n and how do you know each other?”
Both you and Tony glance at each other and you take the liberty of answering her question. Speaking to her directly gives you the chance to truly look into her green eyes, which you must admit you find very beautiful.
A range of emotions flicker over everyone’s faces as you dip your toe into your long complicated past. You simplify your back story, only telling them that you met Tony his family, that you’re a super soldier, created after Steve went into the ice, and that you’ve been a part of SHIELD for a while.
There were many questions thrown your way and you heavily debated with yourself whether or not you wanted to tell them everything. You didn’t think it’d hurt to be a little mysterious. But there’s also the thought that you won’t be seeing these people much anyway so does it truly matter if they know who you are.
Whatever decision you’d come to ceased to matter as the jet landed. The door opened and your eyes raised to read the words written across the top of the building.
“Avengers?” You mumble, glancing at your long time friend/brother. He makes that face, that “what’re you gonna do” nonchalant face Tony always makes. With a shake of your head, you follow him inside, but instead of going with him towards the hallway, you b-line for the elevators.
Tony’s voice calls out to you, effectively grabbing the attention of his teammates,“ not joinin us Y/nn?”
You look back over towards him, your eyes landing on Natasha’s green ones first then on Tony. Smiling a little you shake your head,“ debriefing isn’t for retirees, Stark.”
Natasha frowns at your words and Tony shakes his head with a breathy chuckle.
All of you turn away from each other, them heading to the meeting room and you facing the elevator as the doors slide open.
“Agent, glad you could stick around for the debrief.” Fury says, making you frown and shake your head.
“No no,” you raise a finger, essentially telling him to hold up.“ I’m not an agent. Retired, remember.”
He stops walking to look back at you. Tilting his head, he raises his eyebrow,“ that was until today. I believe you did some work, seeing as Natasha and Clint are back.”
A heavy sigh leaves your lips and you drop your head, groaning lowly,“ Nick please. You know-”
“That you’re on your way to the meeting room. Glad to hear it.” Leaving no more room to talk, he turns and walks away, breezing past the few Avengers who’d stayed behind to watch the interaction.
Grumbling under your breath, you follow after the man. Tony slaps his hand onto your shoulder, a small amused smirk on his lips as he guides you to the meeting room.
With a, in your opinion, justified glare directed at Fury, you plop down into a chair. The man snorts at the huff you let out, averting his eyes to everyone else who comes in.
To your surprise and silent pleasure, Natasha ends up occupying the chair on your other side. When her eyes land on you, you give a small smile and wiggle your fingers in a short wave.
Her eyes narrow at you and you wink. She just barely lifts a brow at the way your face morphs from one of amusement to a no nonsense expression.
You straighten up in your seat, fingers lacing together and resting on the table as your gaze focuses on Fury.
Natasha finds it a bit of a struggle to take her eyes off of you. Since the second she saw you back in Berlin she hasn’t been able to get a clear read on you.
“Romanoff, can I have your attention?” Fury tilts his head and looks directly into Natasha’s eyes.“ Or is that too much to ask?” His tone takes a sassy turn and the redhead rolls her eyes, focusing on him.
The debriefing goes exactly how everyone is used to it going. They go over the original objective of the mission, then everyone gives a run down of what happened: the part they played, how they contributed to the objective, and in this case how things went south.
“Y/Ln,” Fury says, making Natasha’s gaze snap over to you. Had you been looking at her, you would’ve seen the surprise flicker through those green orbs.
“Director,” you nod in reply before going into detail about your infiltration into the German base and the extraction of Natasha and Clint.
All while you talk, Natasha looks at you. You, Agent Y/n Y/Ln. She can’t believe she didn’t connect the dots. Fury sent you in. You’d told her your name. She should’ve seen it. Everyone at SHIELD knows who you are. A lot of people outside of SHIELD know about you as well.
Your explanation of who you were in the quinjet wasn’t even the tip of the iceberg. She didn’t think this often of someone but: you are a legend.
“- things considered,” Natasha regains focus on the conversation, looking away from you to Fury as you speak,“ the mission could’ve gone off flawlessly.”
The man crosses his arms and shifts his weight,“ and what would you say the problem is Agent?”
“Underestimation sir. Or maybe misinformation.” Your response is a bit of a shock to everyone. You take their silence as an opportunity to further explain. You thought it was simple.
The mission was to grab intel from a science lab. As to be expected, the scientists and information there would be guarded. The underestimation or misinformation came in how heavily guarded the place was. Whatever surveillance or recon they had done wasn’t enough. So when they went in to collect they were overwhelmed or caught off guard which resulted in Natasha’s and Clint’s capture.
Everyone takes your words in stride, majority of them processing it and storing it for a time in which they’ll need to use it.
Shortly after that the debriefing ends with a few, what you know is meant to be taken as, encouraging words from Fury. Everyone stands after he’s left, starting to file out.
Once again as you make to leave, Tony stops you. He slaps your arm and you know he’d used as much force as he could behind the action.
Used to this from him, you sigh and shake your head, a small amused smirk on your lips as you look at him.“ What is it now Tony?”
He smiles at you,“ why don’t you hang out for a bit. Haven’t seen the tower yet.” You raise your eyebrow at him, gaze flicking to the redhead that walks past behind him, her eyes on you for a second before she looks away. Smile turning into a smirk he adds,“ you might just find a reason to stick around.”

Sleepy Love Letters // f.w.
fred weasley x reader
requested: yes
word count: 2.5k
warnings: none, fluff
A/N: oh good lord. I am literally so behind on requests of all kinds. I guess i’ve just really needed a break. I am (obviously) writing again, but I am taking it much slower than I had been and it’s truly just because I get burnt out and tired so much faster lately. This fic is from my 1.1k sleepover (i believe) which was back in feb, but I still have stuff from my end of the year party from late dec / early jan. Basically, at this point I’m working through things as I get the time and motivation for it. It’ll all just be mixed in. If you’re waiting for a fic, headcanon, blurb, letter, etc. just keep your eyes out for it on my blog OR you can always check the events and their respective tags under my navigation to find it. I am either working on it or getting my way to it. I promise. Thank you, seriously, to every single one of you that have sent requests in for misc. events or when I had my requests open - it means the WORLD to me and I am going to get to it. I just need the time. Anyways, that’s enough of my heartfelt blubbering. I hope you guys like this fic! Xx
A/N 2: I’ve had this saved in my drafts for weeks now and I’ve been dying to post it. I’m not really sure why I haven’t yet, but here it is!! I hope you like it just as much as I do!
“Y/n, how do you think you did?!” Fred asks as he catches up with you walking out of the great hall after your charms exam.
“Good. Didn’t think it was too hard at least.” You reply, stifling a yawn.
Fred notices and wraps an arm around your shoulders, pulling you into him. The two of you have been friends for years and he knows you're exhausted even if you won’t admit it.
You’ve always spent hours upon hours studying for a test, often opting to stay up real late at night. He can’t even count how many times he and George have come back from detention or setting up a prank to find you passed out at one of the tables in the common room.
It only got worse when it was a final. Fred had found you not only passed out in the common room with a book open in front of you or on your lap, but he’d see you with a book shoved in your face as you ate or anytime you had some free time. He’d watch as you almost obsessively run through flash cards.
He adored how dedicated you were to getting good grades, but he often worried about what you were doing to yourself staying up way past the point of exhaustion or eating the bare minimum as you were too focused on the book in front of you. You weren’t taking care of yourself the way you should and it bothered him more than he’d like to admit.
“I’m sure you did more than just good, sweetheart. You excited that it was the last one?”
“Thrilled. I can’t wait to be able to spend the summer going to the lake and camping. You and George have any plans?”
“Not many as of yet. I’m sure George is going to try to find any excuse to see Angelina.”
You chuckle, nodding in agreement with the redhead. The two of you have only watched George and Angie dance the line between friends and dating for a year and a half now. They were closer than ever to being together, they just wouldn’t quite admit it to each other.
Walking into the common room you were glad to find it quiet. You’d hate to admit it out loud, but all you really wanted to do is go lay down and maybe sleep for a bit.
“Come hang out in my room?” Fred asked, nodding towards the stairs for the boys’ dorms.
He watches as a tired smile fills your face before you give him a small nod.
“Yeah, alright. You have any products you need testing?”
He chuckles, a loving smile on his face in response to your question. Even though you’re dragging your feet and look about ready to pass out, you’re still asking about him and his passion.
“Not today. Maybe later next week though.  I just like your company.”
“I like yours, Fred.” You giggle, following him up the stairs.
“Well obviously, princess. Who doesn’t love having me in their company?” He chuckles, opening the door to his dorm.
“Good Godric,” you roll your eyes. “I think you need to check that ego of yours.”
“You love my big ego though, yeah?”
You shake your head as a smile finds its place on your face. You can’t help but let out a yawn as you take a seat on his bed while he sits down at the desk, watching you get comfortable.
“It definitely makes you interesting, Freddie.”
He smiles, watching as you stretch out, slowly making yourself more comfortable.
“You alright, y/n?” He asks as you let out a soft groan as you curl up in your side.
“Yeah. I’m just really tired, Freddie. Haven’t slept much lately.” You mumble, eyes already closed lightly.
“I’m sure, princess. You just rest for a bit. I’ll make sure you’re up in time for dinner.”
“Thank you.”
He smiles, watching as you tuck one of his pillows under your head. He’s always found you adorable when you’re sleepy. The few times he’s caught you napping in ginny’s room at the burrow, or on the couch down in the common room while your friends all talk, he’s felt his heart melt.
Not wanting to be creepy, though, he turns his attention to a joke product he’s been working on, listening to the gentle breathes leaving your body as you fall asleep.
~.~
You’ve been asleep for about a half hour now and Fred can’t help but admire you. Every time a little groan leaves your lips as you adjust your position, he can’t stop a smile from growing on his lips.
That’s not even mentioning how adorable you look curled up on his bed. Your laying on your stomach, with one leg stretched out while the other is pulled up to your side as you hug a pillow under your head and towards your chest. Your hair is sprawled out over his blankets, afternoon light reflecting of the silky strands.
He watches as your torso slowly rises and falls with your steady breathes and your eyelids flutter with your dreams. He watches as you ever so gently situate yourself from time to time.
He is so enamored with you at the moment he can’t help but want to share his feelings with the world. He’s loved you for a few years now, but he’s never dared let on he does in case you didn’t feel the same. He can’t fathom losing you as a friend, so he never wanted to share something that might make the relationship awkward.
He’s never even told George how he feels about you. When he realized just how deeply he felt for you, he promised himself that he’d keep it quiet. For all you and George knew, Fred only thought of you as a good friend and nothing more. Sure you both knew that he cared for you and would do anything you ever asked him to, but you would never guess that Fred wanted to be able to call you his - that he wanted to be able to hold you and kiss you and shout to the world that he’s dating you.
Fred sighs happily as you continue sleeping, feeling his heart swell with love. Godric how you made him feel.
He doesn’t even realize what he’s doing until he’s written a few words.
Y/n, sweetheart -
Godric, I love you.
He feels the air get sucked out of his lungs as he reads over what he wrote. He couldn’t possibly have written that right?
Looking over at you cautiously to find you still fast asleep he sighs. He checks the time finding that dinner is still over an hour away. Maybe writing out his feelings wouldn’t be so bad? It’s not like anyone would be seeing them right?
~.~
You giggle as you shut the door on your two best friends as they stumble over each other up the stairs.
As soon as you three stepped off the train, Fred was asking you to come over for a few days, not wanting to part ways quite yet. Writing out his feelings did the exact opposite of what he was hoping. Instead of feeling relieved and getting them out of the forefront of his mind, writing out his love for you had only made him crazier for you.
It was insane how much he felt for you and he couldn’t imagine having you disappear on him so quickly. Hence why he asked you over and you’ve been at the burrow for about three days now.
It’s been amazing spending time with your two best friends without the stress or schedule of classes and tests.
Currently you were trying to escape their wrath for a harmless prank you pulled on them this morning which may have resulted in them both getting drenched in water.
“Y/n, sweetheart, can you let us in our room please? We really would like to change out of these wet clothes.” Fred asks sweetly, attempting to get you to show yourself to them.
“Not yet. You’re going to attack me soon as I do.”
“We won’t. Swear we won’t, right george?”
“Right, Fred. Just let us in.”
“I don’t trust you two.” You admit, trying to catch your breath as you back away from the locked door.
“Why not? We’ve never given you a reason not too.”
“You’re joking right? Must I remind you about your birthday?” You deadpan, taking a seat at their desk in an attempt to protect yourself. If they tried to attack you, you at least had an arsenal of pens and pencils.
“Alright, fair enough. We promise no tricks. Just unlock the door.”
“I really don’t want to. At least I’m safe right now.”
You hear a mix of chuckles and a groan as you curiously look over the contents of the desktop. You frown when you spot a folded piece of paper with your name on it.
Why would they have a paper addressed to you? And what would even be in it? It’s not like anyone has anything important enough to put in a letter for you. If they have something to say they just talk to you.
Without questioning it, you pick up the paper and start reading it.
Y/n, sweetheart -
Godric, I love you. I’ve loved you for ages now but I’ve been far too worried about ruining our friendship to tell you. The only reason I’m writing these words now is because I know no one but me will ever see this.
“Y/n? What’re you doing?” Fred questions through the door when you get too quiet.
I can’t imagine a life without you, y/n. You’ve been the best part of mine since I met you on the train in our first year. The way you’re so unbelievably kind and fun to be around is just one of the many things I adore about you. I could write you a list, but it’d get to be quite long.
Merlin, I wish I could tell you how I feel. I want to scream it to the world I swear. I want to be able to hold you, and kiss you, whenever and wherever. I want to go on hogsmeade trips with you and buy you a butterbeer and be one of those couple’s you’re always fawning over. I want to get you gifts just because I want to see you smile.
You can hear the door click as one of them unlocks it, but you pay no attention to it.
I want to be the one you talk to about anything and everything. I want to be the one to comfort you. I want to be the one to make you smile. I want to fall asleep and wake up beside you each day. I just want you. I’ve wanted you since the middle of second year, but I’m sure you don’t feel the same. I just needed to get this all off my chest.
I love you and I hope you can tell even though we’re friends. I love you, y/n. So much.
“Shit, princess. Y-you weren’t supposed to read that.” Fred sighs from behind you.
You jump slightly at his proximity, not expecting him to be right behind you.
You look up at him as he paces across the room, looking over to George before back at Fred. You frown as you watch him tug at his hair.
“Freddie?”
“Hmm?” He acknowledges, still pacing.
“Will you please look at me?”
“What’s even got you like this? What could you have written that’s so bad?” George questions, walking to the desk as you walk over to Fred.
You watch as Fred chews on his lip as you stand in front of him. You see the anxiousness in his eyes and you’ve never once been more reminded of a scared puppy as much as you are now. Fred looks absolutely terrified, only further proven by how he’s shaking slightly.
“Fred, do you really feel that way? Do you love me?”
“I, uhm, yeah...I-I do.”
You smile, pushing back some of his hair that’s stuck to his forehead from being drenched as you wrap your arms around his neck in a hug.
“You should have told me ages ago. I’ve loved you since second year, too, you goof.” You giggle, kissing his cheek before burying your face in his neck.
“What?”
You pull back to look at him, finding him sporting a look of utter confusion as he stares at you, mouth open.
“What?” You chuckle, cocking a brow at him as you smile lightly.
“Y-you like me too? Like you actually like me? More than as a friend?”
You hear George chuckle to the side of you, drawing both of your guys’ attention.
“Godric, Fred. Never would have pegged you as a sap.” He snorts.
“Be nice, George. Believe it or not, it’s actually really sweet. Write a love letter to Angie and see how quickly she swoons.”
Fred chuckles at your repose while George scoffs, although there’s no hiding the blush that spreads across his cheeks.
You watch as George grabs some dry clothes before leaving the two of you to yourselves.
“So you actually like me too?”
“Of course I do, Freddie. Haven’t you ever noticed how much the girls would tease me when you were around? They were teasing me about you.”
“Bloody hell. They’ve done that for years! I thought it was just how they were.”
“I mean, it is, but they tend to get a bit more obnoxious about it when you’re around.”
“So you really like me too?”
“Yes, Freddie. I like you too. I just need to ask, when did you write that?”
He chuckles, rubbing at the back of his neck as he gives you a half smile.
“After our charms final....you took a nap in our dorm, remember?”
“Mhm. Your bed was really comfy.” You giggle, a blush rising to Fred’s cheeks.
“You looked really cute sleeping in my bed and I, well, I may have gotten a little overwhelmed with emotions.”
You smile, leaning in to press a soft kiss to his lips.
“Godric you’re adorable, Fred.”
“Not as adorable as you, princess.”
“I beg to differ.” You giggle, smiling as he brings you into another kiss, tightly wrapping his arms around your waist.
When you pull away you press your foreheads together, smiling.
“So, do you think you could write that list about the things you adore about me?”
He can’t help the chuckle that leaves his chest as you smile adoringly at him.
“I’ll get right on it, love. Right after I change out of these clothes since someone decided it’d be fun to prank the pranksters this morning.”
You giggle, pressing one last kiss to his jaw before you leave him to let him change clothes.
“I’m glad I found your letter, Fred.”
“I am too, y/n. I love you.”
“I love you too, Freddie.” You smile as you close his bedroom door. Who would have guessed that Fred Weasley would declare his feelings for you in a love letter? One things for sure though, you’re saving that paper and cherishing it the rest of your life.

we’re just rivals (on the field) (leah williamson x chelsea!reader)
Tumblr media
the “epilogue” / part 2 to we should be rivals
of course, the game she decided to come to was this one.
word count: 2418 ish
rated F for fluffy, I for idiocy (or injury), and C for charles.
——
it’s been about two weeks since you showed up to that arsenal game.
and about two weeks since you’ve talked to the english defender.
it wasn’t like you weren’t trying to talk, you just never had the time to.
training had been hectic for the both of you, and it always seemed like one was busy while the other one wasn’t.
“why do you look so blue?”
“jee maybe it’s because i’m wearing a chelsea shirt?”
jessie rolled her eyes before huffing:
“come on y/n you know what i meant.”
“do i?”
“you’re impossible.”
“no i’m y/n.”
“oh my god.”
you let out a loud cackle at jessie’s frustrated cry.
you ran your hands through your hair quickly, letting out a sigh of relief when jessie stopped questioning you.
truth is, you missed leah more than you’d like to admit.
you missed her flirty glances and slightly cocky demeanor, and it began to eat up at you a little bit.
by focusing on the task at hand, which was the upcoming manchester city game, you attempted to distract yourself from it.
it helped a little.
jessie could tell something was up, but after your previous exchange she stopped pushing it (for now) upon seeing your refusal to give in, and partly for the sake of her sanity.
you let out a sigh of relief when the whistle blew, signaling the end of training.
you grabbed your water bottle and jumped when you felt someone slap you on your shoulder.
“okay now spill.”
you turn to see jessie giving you a concerned look, the midfielder’s cheeks red and hair messy from the exertion of practice.
“you look like a sunburnt lion,” you snort, before taking a drink of water.
jessie scoffs.
“lions don’t get sunburnt. i thought you’d know tha-hey!”
jessie lets out a yell of protest when you spray your water in her face.
you shoot her a cheeky grin before making a run for it.
“get back here! y/n!”
~~
on the other side of the spectrum, leah felt the same.
she was however, less of a mess than you, and held it together much better than you did.
~~
you let out a little sigh as you stare at the tv.
there she was in all her glory, fuming and talking to lisa after a game, a sight which you rather enjoyed.
after all, it was kind of hot.
you rewinded that section for a little bit, and nearly shit your pants when you heard the apartment door open.
“hey i brought lunch what are you-“
jessie stopped dead in her tracks and stared at the tv.
she let out a snort when she saw you.
you were crammed behind the couch in a failed attempt to hide yourself.
“watching leah are we?”
you let out a grumble from behind the couch:
“i don’t know what you’re talking about.”
jessie rolled her eyes and you heard a rustle before letting out a yelp of surprise when her bag hits you on your head.
“you bitch you hit me.”
“yeah yeah whatever.”
you wriggle your way out from your “hiding place” and plop down on the couch, still rubbing your head.
“i think you made me lose a bunch of brain cells.”
jessie snorts.
“to lose them you’d need some in the first place.”
you growl and shoot her a glare before crossing your arms and huffing:
“i’m ignoring you now.”
the canadian rolls her eyes and shrugs.
“finally some peace and quiet around here.”
“you’re mean.”
“i thought you were ignoring me.”
“shut up.”
~~
the next game was a tough one.
manchester city was a tough opponent and you’re now realizing why.
it was chelsea’s first game against them since they signed the uswnt players, and good lord have they improved.
you watched from across the pitch as jessie was struggling to get the ball from white, your chest heaving slightly while doing so.
you were already exhausted and it wasn’t even half time yet.
your head snaps up when you see a movement to your right, and you took a quick glance to the stands to see the top of a red jersey peaking out behind a black coat.
that’s all you could see before your name was being called and you turned to receive a pass.
and then you got caught up in the game once again, too busy to realize what it meant.
chelsea went into halftime down 1-0.
your halftime talk was brief, mostly just emma giving quick pointers here and there.
when the talk ended and break finished, you were so determined and focused that you nearly walked into the door frame on your way out of the training room.
the second half was going just like the first.
the possession was deadlocked, opportunities were deadlocked, and if it continued like this manchester city would win.
so you decide to fuck it.
you’re getting this corner kick in no matter what.
as reiten prepared to take it, you positioned yourself right next to the keeper and the post.
just for a moment, you let your eyes drift to the stands, your eyes catching a blonde’s as you do so.
it took you a second to realize who that was.
almost instantly, butterflies tore through your stomach, and you barely miss the whistle signaling the corner kick.
just barely.
now you have to score.
leah’s here.
you have to.
reiten sends the ball into the box, and almost like magic it’s heading for exactly where you’re standing.
you could see roebuck beginning to grab for it, and you didn’t care, you were going for that ball.
just as your head makes contact with it, you hear a resounding crack and yours eyes start watering in pain as you hit the ground.
your hands were covering your face and you could taste blood in your mouth, but you couldn’t tell where it was coming from.
jessie’s hand and concerned voice brings you out of your thoughts.
“hey are you okay? what’s wrong?”
you groaned a little in pain and whispered:
“did we score?”
jessie let out a halfhearted eye roll before saying:
“that’s what you’re worried about? well you scored, but please don’t kill yourself trying to do that next time.”
you let out a soft chuckle before taking jessie’s hand and getting to your feet.
one of your hands were still covering your face, and when you put them down jessie lets out a surprised yelp.
“oh jesus! okay uhm we need a medic here!”
pretty soon you were surrounded by the medical staff, and taking one look at you they ask for a substitute.
there’s a ringing in your ears so you can barely hear snippets of the medical conversation, but you hear enough to know what’s going on.
broken nose. punched in the face by the goalkeeper. need to set it.
it’s when you’re being led off the pitch that you remember about leah.
your eyes widen and you turn to the stands, and you couldn’t tell if it was your angle or not, but you couldn’t see her anywhere.
you shook your head slightly and continued your walk off the pitch.
emma joined you in the room along with a few guys on the medical team, and said:
“listen, we can set your nose now, or we can wait until after the game. we’ll give you a few moments to decide.”
you give a nod and with that everyone left the room.
it was quiet for about a minute before you heard footsteps again.
“hey i haven’t…”
the rest of your sentence gets caught in your throat when you look up.
in the doorway stood the girl who’d been on your mind for the past few weeks, and you blushed a little at the sight.
“um uh i-how are you?” you managed to stutter out.
leah lets out a light chuckle before saying:
“shouldn’t i be asking you that?”
the defender walks up to you and gently places her hands on your cheeks, quietly examining your face.
“well it’s definitely broken,” she mutters softly, and in a sudden jolt of confidence you bring your hand up to cup hers in yours.
leah smiles a little at that and takes your hands down to rest in your lap.
“how did you get down here?”
leah blushes and smiles sheepishly:
“i may have had to sneak around a guard or two..”
“you wanted to see me that badly huh?”
leah gives a slight eye roll at your teasing tone.
“be careful, i could leave at any moment.”
you let out a loud laugh before wincing slightly, the action shooting a fresh wave of pain over your face.
“be careful, don’t want that pretty face to scar,” leah says teasingly.
“why would you like me less with a scar?”
“well i didn’t say that.”
you try to wink, only getting halfway before wincing in pain again.
it’s now that emma walks back in with the medical staff, who looks up in surprise when she sees leah.
“we can’t have visitors here-“
“have her stay.”
“y/n we really can’t-“
“nope she’s staying.”
your coach lets out a defeated sigh.
“fine.”
and you hear her mutter something that sounds like:
“i don’t get paid enough for this.”
leah shot you a look before letting go of your hand, much to your dismay, and moved to a spot next to you, out of their way.
“so y/n, did you decide t-“
“set it now.”
emma gives the medical staff a thumbs up and  the go ahead and glances quickly at you and leah with an expression of oh look, more gays, before heading out back onto the pitch.
a gruff voice focuses your attention back to the foreground.
“alright y/n, my name is charles, and i’ll be setting your nose today.”
you give an attempt at a snort, and wince before saying:
“sounds like you’re my waiter or something.”
charles gives a hearty chuckle, and as he examines your face says:
“this one’s got a sense of humor huh.”
you let out a wink in leah’s direction before saying:
“oh you know it.”
charles turns with his back to you, looking through his equipment bag and says:
“okay this might hurt a bit, so i recommend grabbing something, not me preferably.”
“do people do that?”
charles turns to you with a bit of tape and gauze in his hands and places them on the table beside you.
“like you wouldn’t believe.”
you let out a laugh.
“alright let’s get this over with.”
“okay then, since they still have a game going on, please try not to yell.”
you felt his hands on your face and you braced yourself for it.
“alright ready? on the count of 3.”
“1.”
“2.”
your hand shot out in leah’s direction and the defender took it without hesitation.
“3.”
charles moved his body with his hands and the pain was almost instantaneous.
still, you gritted your teeth as your eyes start to water, not noticing how tightly you clamped onto leah’s hand.
it’s only after when charles is wrapping your nose that leah whispers:
“i know we play football but i kind of still need my hand.”
“sorry,” you mutter, relaxing your grip, and at the same time refusing to let go of her.
“all righty! took it like a champ, you didn’t even yell.”
you shrug before saying nonchalantly, “yeah i’m not much of a screamer.”
you grinned cheekily when you notice leah’s eyes widening and cheeks reddening.
as charles was packing up his stuff, he asks:
“so is this your girlfriend?”
it was silent for a few seconds, and charles turns to look at the two of you.
“i’m sensing like a we’re friends but we flirted a bit and now we don’t know where we stand kind of a vibe.”
you and leah speak at the same time.
“yeah.”
“exactly.”
charles picked up his bag and said:
“i figured. anyways you guys look cute together, and i’m gonna go back to the game now.”
and with that said, he gave you a little wave and walked out of the room.
“well he was fun, i liked him,” you said to leah, who smiled and nodded a bit in agreement.
the two of you chatted about meaningless things for a little while, before you shot up suddenly and pulled her with you.
“come on, let’s get out of here.”
leah scrunched her eyebrows up in confusion.
“where are we going?”
you grin at her.
“well i promised i’d take you on a date if you came to my game didn’t i?”
leah’s cheeks flush a little and she says:
“w-“
jessie’s voice cuts leah’s response short.
“y/n! how are you doin-oh.”
the canadian’s eyes flickered between your face and leah’s face, before moving towards your joined hands.
a teasing smile made its way onto her face and before you could stop it, jessie stepped forward and began talking to leah.
“hey, i’m jessie, also y/n’s best friend, you must be the one who-“
you let go of leah’s hand and cut in with a pitiful attempt to stop her from talking.
“NOPE I’M GOING TO LEAVE IM-“
leah crossed her arms and watched the two of you with an amused smirk plastered on her face.
“got y/n, a diehard chelsea fan i tell you, to-“
“NOPE NOPE NOPE JESSIE LETS NOT-“
“buy an arsenal jersey. yours to be exact.”
you groaned and your face flushed red with embarrassment, closing your eyes and turning to face the wall.
you spun around and took leah’s hand, dragging her out of the room while flipping off jessie.
you hear jessie yell from behind you:
“love you too y/n!”
it’s when the two of you made your way out of the stadium when she says:
“so an arsenal jersey huh?”
your cheeks flush redder and you mumble:
“shut up.”
“i’ll bet it looks great on you,” leah added with a wink.
“it’ll look even better on your bedroom floor,” you retort.
leah’s eyes widened a little as her face became blood red.
“what?”
you grin cockily.
“nothing!”
leah just looked at you in utter disbelief.

There was no need in counting the money given to me. I could tell by the size of the tack that it wasn’t enough. “You stiffed me again.”
Roman rolled his eyes at me. “I told you I’d pay for a clean kill, that wasn’t a clean kill. You’re lucky I paid you at all.”
“What do you mean? How can a kill be any cleaner than arsenic poisoning? I even framed that chemist guy that had a grudge against the target, it’ll never be traced back to you.”
“Sorry, did I say clean? I meant I wanted a messy murder. Your plan was smart, but I love the theatrics of it all. Next time, I want a show.”
I rolled my eyes and started to walk away. I really wished I could find a new employer. Roma was the absolute worst boss. He was an asshole misogynist that overworked and underpaid me. But he had a lot of leverage on me, what with me being his hitwoman and all, so until I could find a new employer, I was basically bound to Roman.
“Wait!” Roman said. I sighed and turned back to look at him. “I do have a pretty big job for you. If you do this, I promise you I will pay you in full. A large sum, too.”
“I’ve heard that before, Roman,” I said and turned to walk away again.
He stood from his desk and quickly approached me, grabbing my arm to stop me. I raised an eyebrow and yanked my arm away. Most people were too afraid of Roman to behave like this around him. However, most people weren’t his hitwoman, meaning they didn’t have the dirt on him that I did.
It was a balanced relationship we had, whether Roman wanted to admit it or not.
“I mean it, (Y/N),” he said. “This is a big job. If you do this, I will pay you double, no triple the original price of this hit.”
I should’ve walked away, I could’ve walked away. Roman wouldn’t stop me if I did. But I couldn’t lie, the money sounded good - if Roman actually gave me what he was promising this time.
I sighed and motioned with a hand for Roman to go on. He smiled like a kid on Christmas morning.
“Do you know who Harley Quinn is?”
~~~~~~
It didn’t take long to find where Harley Quinn decided to live after the Joker kicked her to the curb. It was severely under protected, unless you classified a sweet Asian man as “protection”.
He tried to stop me as I made my way to Harley’s apartment. “Who are you?”
“I’m an old friend of Harley’s from Arkham Asylum,” I responded. “I wanted to surprise her, I just got out.”
“She’s not home right now.”
“Even better! It’ll be a big surprise!”
I hurried away before he said anything else. I knew he’d be suspicious, but I trusted him to not tell Harley I was there.
I picked her lock and let myself in. The moment I stepped into her apartment, her pet hyena sat up at attention, assessing the stranger that had just entered his home. I pulled the hamburger I had bought from the bag in my hand and offered it to the hyena. He raced over and excitedly gobbled down the food.
I knelt down to pet his coarse fur. “Good boy. I’ll take you in when I finish with this job.”
Luckily, I didn’t have to wait for her long. Shortly after my arrival, the sound of the doorknob turning alerted myself and her hyena that she was back. I pointed the gun as the door swung open. Her eyes widened when she saw me.
“Hello Harleen.”
Roman’s words - “I want a messy kill” - echoed through my head as I pulled the trigger. Harley quickly jumped to the side, just narrowly avoiding my bullet. She dove behind her couch and I continued to shoot bullets into it, causing feathers and fluff to fly into the air. Harley’s hyena let out a laugh-like bark that was drowned out by my gunshots. When my clip was empty, I quickly changed it to a full one.
Knowing that the gunshots would’ve alerted Harley’s landlord, I quickly crossed the room to her open door and closed it, locking the door and even breaking the knob a little for good measures. I wasn’t going to let this job bust, not with so much money on the line.
“Look, whatever Mista J did to you, I’m sorry!” Harley called from somewhere in the room. “Haven’t ya done your research? He brainwashed me! I only did what he said cause I thought I loved him!”
“Joker never did anything to me,” I told her. “I’m just here on someone else’s behalf.”
“That’s a long list to narrow down,” she responded. “Mind giving me a hint? Maybe an initial?”
I traced her voice to a desk that was turned to face me. This wouldn’t have normally been suspicious, if it weren’t for the fact that the desk was pushed right up against a wall, rendering it technically useless. In the small slit between the bottom of the desk and the floor, I could see Harley’s colorful shoes peaking out.
“Actually, I have a message from him,” I said. “Roman says ‘Good Riddence.”
She must’ve known I had found her, as, just before I pulled the trigger, Harley jumped up from under the desk, successfully launching it at me. The sudden movement startled me enough that my shot lodged itself in the ceiling instead of in her head.
“Oh, Romy!” Harley exclaimed. “Couldn’t even be bothered to come kill me himself? What hurts!”
She dove behind another plush chair as I took another shot at her. I exclaimed in frustration and went to approach the chair. Before getting close enough, Harley raised her hand, which was now holding the white t-shirt she had arrived in.
“Truce!” she called. “Just for one minute, give me a truce. And then you can decide if you want to continue with your killing. I won’t stop you, you ain’t the first to try and off me today.”
Against my better judgement, I sighed and shoved my gun back into the waistband of my pants. “You have five minutes to say your piece, Quinn. I have a lot of money on the line here.”
She popped up from behind the chair like a Whack-A-Mole. She was now in a plush, pink sports bra, her suspenders pulled over it now instead of the white t-shirt she was holding in her hand.
“I can’t blame you for wanting to cash in on a good paycheck,” she said. “I wanted to get a look at ya for a minute. You know, without the bullets and whatnot obstructing my view. I wanted to see if I recognized ya.”
“Why would you recognize me?”
“I frequent Romy’s club a lot. I think he only tolerated me because of Mista J, which would explain why he sent a hitwoman after me when I announced our breakup,” she explained. “You do look familiar. Do you frequent the club, too?”
“I don’t tend to talk with Roman about business in public. It’s not exactly the smartest move.”
“I suppose not, but I’m sure I’ve seen your face there before.” She thought for a moment before snapping her fingers. “Oh! I know! You were there the last time I was! I broke a dude’s legs and you were talking to Romy at the time!”
Oh wait, she’s right. I was there that night.
I could remember well: I had just finished a job. Roman had called me to his club for my payment. I guess he knew I wouldn’t lash out in front of all those witnesses when he stiffed me again. I was furious when he handed me less than half of what he had promised. That job had almost gotten me killed, but he viewed that as a failure. He told me he was debating not paying me at all, but knew I’d walk if that was the case.
His smug as smile as he walked away still infuriated me to that day. I wished I had punched him right in his stupid fucking face, made a scene in his club and announced to the world that Roman Sionis had hired a killer to take down the people he didn’t like. I’d go to prison if it meant Roman went with me.
“Man, you were angry,” Harley said, leaning her arms against the chair and resting her head in one of her hands. “What were ya talking about? Did a hit go wrong or something?”
“Nearly,” I responded, looking away from Harley so she wouldn’t see my anger again. “Listen, I gave you five minutes and they’re almost up, so maybe you should - ”
“He stiffed ya, didn’t he?” Harley cut me off. “I bet he does that a lot. He doesn’t exactly treat his female employees all that nicely. You heard the stories from that singer he has? The Canary? I can’t believe she quit working for him and made it out alive.”
She almost hadn’t. I had to save her ass from Roman that night. It was the night I almost walked out, too. The first time, anyways.
“He’s a misogynistic prick,” Harley hissed. “Thinks women are objects that should be beneath him. I don’t know why you let him treat you like dirt when you do all the dirty work for him. You should be the one stiffin’ him for cash!”
“It doesn’t work like that,” I told her. “Being the killer for hire for Roman Sionis, he has too much dirt on me. If I tried to leave, or if I did anything he didn’t like, he could ruin my life in a second. I’m stuck with him until I can know for sure that I’m safe.”
“How do you know you wouldn’t be safe with me?”
I scoffed at her question. “You’re wanted by everybody - every villain, every hero, and every regular pedestrian. You don’t have the Joker to protect you right now. You’re a walking target, being with you is the unsafest place to be.”
“Safer than with Roman Sionis,” she said. “Sure, I can’t pay you top dollar for killin’, but I like to get my hands bloody myself. I ain’t here for this hitman/hitwoman shit. You and I, we could do some serious damage together.”
I’d be lying if I said I didn’t like her proposal. Even if it would land me in a world of danger, working with Harley Quinn was a lot better than having to work for Roman Sionis anymore.
“The two of us alone, no matter how powerful or how...psychotic, are not enough to go up against Roman,” I told her.
Harley smiled brightly, knowing that what I was saying was technically an acceptance to her invitation. “Way ahead of you sister! I’ve already recruited Romy’s ex-Canary, and that legendary Crossbow Killer. We’re puttin’ together our own little girl gang.”
I raised an eyebrow at her. “Sounds like you were prepared for this.”
“Let’s just say, you’re not the first person Romy has sent after me.”
I had a feeling there was a reason Roman didn’t warn me about the first person sent after Harley Quinn.
She approached me and threw an arm over my shoulder, as if we were magically best friends. I looked at her close proximity before looking back up at her smiling face. “I could kill you right now, you know.”
“I know, but you won’t,” she said. “We’re best friends now, and we’re gonna take down Roman Sionis together.”
I couldn’t help but smile at her as she said this.
Pairing: Daryl Dixon x Winchester!Reader
Chapter 9-
Tumblr media
Daryl and Rick had gone out early in the morning for a supply run, so you spent most the morning chilling around the house with Carl and Judith waiting for them to get back.
"Hey, Y/N?" Abraham's voice called out as the front door opened and you glanced over your shoulder towards the big man. "Are you free to take my watch shift? I promised Sasha-" He began to say, before you smiled and cut him off.
"Of course, don't need to explain. Is the rifle up there?" You asked, placing a gentle kiss to Judith's forehead before you stood up and began making your way towards the front door.
"Sure is. Thank you, I owe you one." Abraham responded before the two of you walked outside, Abraham disappearing off towards Sasha's house while you made your way towards the front gate.
You spent the rest of the afternoon on the watch platform with the assault rifle slung over your shoulder.
By the time night fell, Rick and Daryl still weren't back yet and you were starting to get worried. They said they'd be back before dark, but eventually the headlights of their vehicle appeared in the distance and you sighed with relief, telling Rosita to open the gate to let them in. But, they didn't park by the front gate like usual, they drove towards the infirmary and you began to start worrying again. Was one of them hurt? Why were they going to the infirmary?
"Go. I'll keep watch." Rosita shouted, noticing your worry.
You nodded your thanks, carefully climbing down the ladder before running to across the community.
You reached the infirmary breathlessly just as Rick and Daryl climbed out the car carrying an unconscious man that you had definitely never seen before. He was wearing a long jacket, sporting long hair and an impressive beard, but you had no idea who this guy was.
"Who's this?" You questioned, following them into the infirmary after Denise and Tara opened the door, both of them clearly having woken up and you smiled softly at the new couple before you followed them inside.
"Jesus. He was hit on the head, I need you to take a look at him." Rick instructed, looking over at Denise.
She quickly snapped into action, clearing off the hospital bed and instructing them to lay the man down.
Jesus? Was Rick just trying to be funny or was that his actual name?
You watched Denise checked the man before she declared that he would be fine and wake up in a few hours. Rick and Daryl carried the man back down the street and dumped him inside the cell they had set up in the house between yours and Ricks.
Rick explained how they found the guy while Daryl dropped of a cup of water and cookie inside the cell for the man and you stood there in shock listening to the whole thing. They lost a truck full of supplies in a lake and Daryl chased this guy around in a paddock for five minutes? Man, you would have loved to see that.
"Were ya on watch duty?" Daryl asked as the two of you walked back towards your house after saying goodnight to Rick, his arm wrapped over your shoulder as you walked down the street.
"Yeah, Abe needed someone to take his shift and since you ditched me today, I figured why not." You joked, causing Daryl to scoff as he opened the front door and let you walk in first.
"While you were out there you didn't..." You trailed off, unable to get yourself to say their names.
"Sorry, didn't come across anythin' that seemed like 'em. They could still be out there, Y/N. They could have survived the herd like ya did." Daryl replied.
It was possible, but why didn't they come back of the Impala? Even if they did survive the herd, it was highly unlikely you'd find them again. They could be anywhere right now and Cas was dead... you'd never see them again.
"Maybe."
Daryl closed the door behind himself before the two of you began to walk down the hallway to the bedroom.
You stripped off down to your underwear before you took your bra off and slipped on a tank top. You crawled under the blankets of your bed just as Daryl got changed, wearing nothing but his boxers before he joined you in bed.
"What do you think of that Jesus guy?" You asked, rolling onto your side to face him as Daryl lifted his hand and brushed a stand of hair away from your face.
Tumblr media
"Dunno, but let's not talk 'bout that." Daryl muttered and you simply nodded.
Leaning forward you pressed a gentle kiss to his lips and a second later Daryl propped himself up on his elbow, cupping the side of your face with his free hand and began to kiss you back causing you to moan into his lips.
"If ya keep makin' those sounds I ain't gonna be able to stop myself." He muttered as you ran your hand over his toned stomach, your fingers tracing over the scars painted across his chest.
"Good." You whispered against his lips.
-
You woke up early the next morning. You never needed much sleep being part angel. You were always awake before your brothers every day, which was annoying because the two of them snored like freight trains. It made watching tv in motel rooms when out on hunts very difficult to say the least.
The sun had just risen in the sky as you sat by the window in your bedroom, looking out at the street of Alexandria, but just as you were about to stand up, you spotted that Jesus guy walking down the road towards Ricks house. Shit, that can't be good.
"Daryl." You shouted, rushing around to his side of the bed as you grabbed his shoulders gently. "Hey, you need to wake up." You said again and Daryl suddenly bolted up right in sudden panic.
"What's wrong?" He asked, his eyes flashing your body up and down looking for any sign of injuries as you began to pull the nearest pair of pants which happened to be short pyjama shorts, but you didn't have time to find proper pants.
"Jesus got out. He was heading towards Ricks house."
Daryl quickly jumped out of bed pulling on a pair of jeans as he grabbed his vest and threw it on, not bothering to put a shirt on underneath before he grabbed his handgun just as you finished putting on your shorts satisfied that your tank top was enough for now as you grabbed your handgun from the night stand and ran after Daryl who had already left the room.
You sprinted into Ricks house, not bothering to knock before you heard voices coming from the staircase. You quickly pulled your gun out and ran through the house until you reached the stairs spotting Jesus sitting on the steps with Carl standing behind him with his gun raised.
Cocking your handgun, you followed Daryl up the stairs both of your sights aimed at the stranger.
Suddenly, Rick and Michonne emerged from behind Carl and you raised your eyebrow slightly at Rick as the two of them quickly did up the buttons of their clothes before you turned your attention back towards Jesus. Well, those two were apparently sleeping together, you thought to yourself.
Jesus glanced over at you and Daryl with a gentle smile before Rick instructed him to stand up and go sit at the kitchen table down stairs, telling Michonne to go get the others giving you and Daryl time to actually get changed into proper clothes.
Daryl threw on his sleeveless shirt underneath the vest while you put your bra on before putting on a pair of pants and throwing one of your flannels on over your tank top.
The two of you quickly made your way back to Ricks house instantly spotting Jesus sitting at the head of the table with Rick and Michonne sitting either side of him. Carl was also at the table, followed Maggie and Glenn while Abraham stood at the back of the table as the two of you walked into the room and you sat down beside Rick.
"So, how'd you get out?" Rick asked as you looked over at Jesus who was staring at you as if he was trying to figure out where he recognised you from, but you had never seen this man in your life.
"One guard can't cover two exits or third floor windows. Knots untie and locks get picked." The man explained as Daryl walked around the table and leant against the wall beside Rick and Jesus eying the stranger cautiously. "I checked out your arsenal. I haven't seen anything like that in a long time. You're well-equipped, but your provisions are low. Very low for the amount of people you have. 54?"
"More than that." You answered, watching the guy carefully.
He had obviously scouted out your community before coming into Ricks house and that was smart, but also not good for you guys.
"Well, I appreciate the cookie. My compliments to the chef." Jesus continued.
"Yeah, she ain't here." Daryl muttered, glaring at the man and you knew Daryl didn't trust this guy at all.
"Look, we got off to a bad start. But, we're on the same side, the living side. You and Rick had every reason to leave me out there, but you didn't." Jesus began to say, looking over at Daryl before he turned back to the rest of you. "I'm from a place that's a lot like this one. Part of my job is searching out other settlements to trade with. I took your truck because my community needs things, and both of you looked like trouble. I was wrong. You're good people and this is a good place. I think our communities may be in a position to help each other."
Nobody said anything for a few seconds as you slowly processed what he had just told you.
"Do you have food?" Glenn asked, speaking up for the first time as Jesus looked over at him.
"We've started to raise livestock. We scavenge, we grow. Everything from tomatoes to sorghum."
"Tell us why we should believe you." Rick responded, bringing Jesus' attention back to him.
"I'll show you. If we take a car, I can take you back home in a day and you can all see for yourselves who we are and what we have to offer." He suggested and although that sounded like a good idea, it could also be a trap.
"Wait, you're looking for more settlements. You mean you're already trading with other groups?" Maggie asked, thinking back to what the long haired guy had said earlier.
Tumblr media
"Your world's about to get a whole lot bigger." Jesus said as he sat back in his chair with a small grin.
There were other communities out there? How did you not even think of that? If Alexandria could survive then surely others had done the same with walls, it made sense.
"Y/N?" Rick asked, glancing away from Jesus as he focused on you.
You knew what Rick was silently asking, he wanted to know if Jesus was telling the truth or not and as far as you could tell, he wasn't lying.
"I think he's telling the truth." You admitted, you had no way to know for sure, but your gut was telling you that he wasn't lying.
"Like I said, if we take a car, I can take you there right now." Jesus added, his attention purely focused on Rick who shared a quick look with Daryl and Michonne before he nodded.
"Alright, we leave in an hour. But, if this is a trap, you're dead." Rick warned causing Jesus to chuckle softly, but he nodded in understanding.
It didn't take long before you got the RV packed and ready. Rick left Gabriel and Carl in charge while you were gone and before you knew it, you were sitting between Daryl and Glenn while Rick drove the RV.
Maggie had fallen asleep an hour into the drive, her head in Glenn's lap while he talked with Abraham about something, but you weren't really paying much attention as you sat there, your head leaning on Daryl's shoulder, his fingers running through your hair gently. Jesus sat on the chair opposite you and smiled softly watching you and Daryl.
You couldn't help but like the guy. You weren't sure what it was about him, but you trusted him and coming from a Winchester, that meant a lot.
Suddenly, Rick slammed on the breaks and you nearly fell off your seat if it wasn't for Daryl grabbing you and you shared a quick look with your boyfriend before you both turned around and looked out the window, but you couldn't see anything out of the usual.
"Yo, Rick. What's goin' on?" Daryl called out, glancing back towards the front of the RV as Rick glanced at the two of you through the revision mirror.
"We got a crash ahead. Looks like it just happened." Rick responded, bringing the RV to a stop, causing you to frown in confusion. A crash? Like a car crash?
"It's one of ours." Jesus suddenly shouted, jumping up from his seat and before any of you could move he was racing out the door to the RV.
"Shit." You muttered under your breath.
You ran after the stranger, the others hot on your trail as you jumped out the door and stopped taking in the crashed car on the side of the road that had walker guts and bodies stuck to it.
It was clearly a fresh crash like Rick said, the walkers guts still fresh, some of the walkers stuck against the car still alive trying to reach for you and it was clear whoever was driving didn't see the walkers until the last minute and crashed. Rookie mistake.
"Don't move." You ordered, drawing your handgun and aiming at Jesus' head before he could take another step towards the car.
You may like this guy so far, but you weren't going to let your guard down. Your father and brothers taught you better than that.
Suddenly, the familiar sound of Rick's Colt clicking filled the air as he appeared beside you, gun aimed at Jesus as well.
Tumblr media
"If this is a trick, it won't end well for you." Rick warned.
"My people are in trouble. They don't... we don't have a lot of fighters. I know how it looks, but I'll play it out. Can I borrow a gun?" Jesus asked, his eyes flashing between you and Rick nervously.
"No." Daryl muttered from beside you, glaring at the man before a faint noise caught your attention and you glanced over your shoulder towards a house across the road.
"They're in that house." You stated, holstering your gun and pointing at it causing the others to frown in confusion.
"How do you know that?" Abraham questioned, but you didn't get the chance to responded before Daryl spotted a set of tracks that lead to the house and you sighed with relief because you weren't sure how you were going to explain your super hearing to the group without freaking them out.
Without saying anything further the group of you made your way towards the house, everyone with guns drawn except for Jesus as he eyed the building anxiously.
Rick tried to look through the dirty glass door, but he couldn't see anything. You couldn't even see anything through the thick layer of dirt smeared over the glass.
"We moving in or what?" Abraham asked from behind you somewhere.
"How do we know this ain't firecrackers in a trash can?" Daryl questioned, walking up towards you and Rick.
You knew Daryl didn't trust this guy at all. But, he wasn't lying. You could hear the people inside. They were in there. You couldn't hear them talking, but you could them moving around and their laboured deep breaths.
"His people are in there. One's hurt." You informed, glancing over at Rick who stared at you for a second before he nodded and turned back to Jesus who was already staring at you with a shocked expression.
"We'll get your people. But, you're staying here with one of us. That's the deal." Rick instructed and it was clear Jesus wasn't too happy with that before he reluctantly nodded.
You watched as Rick pulled his handcuffs from the pouch on the back of his belt before he cuffed Jesus' hands behind his back.
"Y/N, Maggie. You two stay here, watch him." Rick said, but you shook your head.
"No, I'm going with you guys. If things turn south in there, you're gonna need me to back you up." You responded, turning towards Rick who just shook his head.
"Without your pow-" Rick began to say before stopping himself. "Without your... you know. You're just like the rest of us. So, stay out here and watch him. You hear me whistle, shoot him."
You glared at Rick, wanting to argue about you being just like them without your powers, but deep down you knew he was right. You couldn't even save Cas or your brothers. You were useless.
"Fine." You muttered and Rick gave you a small apologetic look, realising he had hit a soft spot, but you just looked away from him as Daryl grabbed your shoulder squeezing it gently and you sighed. "Just go, be careful." You added and Daryl nodded, kissing the top of your head before the group of them walked into the house.
You looked over at Maggie, realising she had her gun trained on Jesus as she gave you a small nod and you nodded back, glancing back at Jesus, but it was clear he wasn't a threat so you didn't bother keeping your gun out.
To your relief it didn't take long before the group of them returned with four strangers who were immediately relived when they saw Jesus standing beside you outside.
You stepped out the way, letting the group reunite as you walked over to Daryl, silently asking if he was okay and he nodded, wrapping his arm over your shoulder before you piled back into the RV, taking your usual seats.
One of Jesus' friends was a doctor and helped bandage the wound on one of the others that got hurt during the crash, but other than that everyone else seemed to fine and no threat, so you curled up beside Daryl, his arm still slung over your shoulder.
You were close to falling asleep before suddenly the RV stopped again and you frowned listening to the engine rev loudly as you sat up properly in your seat and looked towards Rick as he silently swore to himself. Well, you were willing to bet that Rick had driven straight through a mud pit and gotten bogged.
"It doesn't matter. We're here anyway." Jesus announced, looking out the front windscreen and you followed his line of sight to find tall wooden fence in front of you.
You glanced over at Daryl who was already looking at the fence of the community before you all followed Jesus out the RV, everyone slipping on the mud causing you to comment on Ricks bad driving, but he just ignored you, his attention purely focused on the wooden walls.
"That's us. That's the Hilltop." Jesus explained, holding his arms out towards the walls proudly. Well, this was going to be interesting.
Adoration
Jason Todd, Roy Harper, Dick Grayson x female reader
Inspired by a scene in a movie I watched recently, (one of the Harry Potter, I forget which one). Jason and reader are platonic, Jason's girlfriend shows up at hospital and Jason confesses some things.
'Jason, stay with me' you said in a rushed and panicked tone. 'Keep your eyes open, Jason' you continued as you struggled to get his Red Hood helmet off his head. Nightwing and Arsenal behind you, one calling an ambulance while the other applying pressure to the wound.
'Stay awake' you said as your voice cracked, choking on the tears you were holding back.
'Ambulance is on the way' you heard Dick call out as he approached quickly.
'Jason' you said as he began to close his eyes.
You were pacing the Hospital floor, while Dick and Roy were in their civilian clothes sitting down.
Roy tapping his feet on the floor with his head in his hands, Dick just holding in the worry.
'Hey' you said as you saw the Doctor approaching, 'is he ok?' You asked. The Doctor smiled, his silver hair shining under the lights.
'He's just come out of surgery, looking really good. No internal damage that can't be fixed, he just needs to rest' the Doctor said in a calming tone.
Roy smiled, Dick nodded and you just stood sighing with relief.
'Y/n?' Roy almost whispered, you looked at him as the Doctor walked away, 'maybe you should wash your hands' he smiled, you had been so preoccupied with worry that you hadn't noticed your hands were covered with Jason's blood.
Roy stood at the foot of the bed, Dick on the right side with you on the left. Jason hadn't woken up yet, but you were allowed to see him for a quick 10 minute visit.
'What is she doing here?' Maggie's voice boomed as she glared at you, you just glared back. Almost angry.
'I could ask you the same thing' you shot back with attitude.
'I happen to be his girlfriend' Maggie scoffed, you chuckled.
'Well, I happen to be his friend' you said, Maggie just laughed, humourlessly
'Rich you call yourself that when you didn't speak to him for 3 months' Maggie was on fire with the attitude today, she was always nice to everyone but you, for some reason she was always so mean.
'That's none of your business, besides you weren't here' you were angry, 'your boyfriend got shot and you turn up 18 hours later to see if he's ok', Dick just watching the chaos as Roy noticed Jason moving a little.
'Guys, Jason's waking up' Roy said, Maggie pushed passed you to get in Jason's face. He wasn't completely conscious but he was trying to speak.
'Baby?' Maggie said with an annoying high pitched tone.
'Y/n, y/n' Jason mumbled, sounding more clear the second time. The room fell silent as Maggie looked at you, you didn't know what to say. Dick was trying not to laugh. Roy was just holding his best friends hand.
'Wha....' Maggie said as she started crying and ran out the room.
'Maggie' Dick called out after her, Roy walked over to the door to see she was gone. Both men turned around to see you holding Jason's hand.
'What?' You asked faining innocence with a sly smile. Both men just smiled back.
It was a few hours later, Dick had gone hoke but asked to be updated whenever something would happen. You and Roy were in the waiting room.
'I've seen the way he looks at you, you know' Roy said spontaneously, you looked at him.
'What you mean?' You asked, Roy smiled.
'Jason, when he looks at you, he's never looked at anyone like that before'
'I know' you replied softly, Roy just put his arm around you.
'He loves you, like he's never loved anyone, I think you feel the same but both of you are just too stubborn to admit it' Roy chuckled.
'I do love him, I have for a while, I haven't said anything because I know what Jason is like. He pushes people away when he loves them because he doesn't want them to get hurt' you say, Roy just looks at you, 'I didn't realise how much I love him until I saw him get shot, bleeding in my arms' you finished, choking up a little.
A few weeks had passed, Jason was home and recovering. He hadn't been told of the events in the hospital as no one wanted to bombard him with information.
He say on his couch, arm in a sling as you walked out holding two cups of tea for him and you.
'Thanks' he smiled as you handed him a cup, you sat next to him. 'What happened in the hospital?' Jason asked you seriously, you looked at him curious.
'When?' You asked
'Maggie won't reply to my texts, or answer my calls' Jason sounded confused. You smiled.
'You may have said some things, while you were unconscious, that were interpreted to...well...kind of a break up' you explained, Jason just looked confused again.
'Like what?' He asked, you just looked him in the eye.
'My name' Jason's eyes widened, 'does that mean anything to you?' You asked shyly.
'I guess, I mean I love you, but not like a best friend' Jason confessed then covered his mouth. Realising what he said.
'Shit, I meant...well...you're' Jason tried to save himself embarrassment but you you laughed.
'I love you too, also not like a best friend' you cut in, Jason smiled, putting his hand in his heart.
You leaned in and kissed him passionately, then pulled away smiling. Jason blushed as he kissed you again.
'Drink your tea before it goes cold' you joked, handing him his cup he placed on the table. He nodded as he smiled. You two sat in comfortable silence as you both sipped your drinks.
After you finished, you nuzzled into Jason and held his hand on his good arm, eventually with both of you falling asleep.
Roy walked in to find you both sound asleep on the couch, he smiled.
'Finally' he said to himself.
