here’s a really long analysis of cady’s arc in the mean girls musical because i think my favourite version of cady heron is the version from the stage musical.
while the original movie version is absolutely brilliant of course, there’s something about the way the stage musical portrays cady’s arc. i feel like each of cady’s songs really progresses her arc in a way that isn’t done to the same extent by the movie. obviously i know that’s partially because the writers of the stage musical had time to improve on the original and truly think on how to portray cady’s arc.
in it roars, cady’s dissatisfaction with her life in africa and her initial awkwardness in high school is showed brilliantly. though we do see cady’s awkwardness in the movie, we don’t see her feeling less satisfied with her life in africa and I thought that was a brilliant addition.
stupid with love is such a brilliant song. i didn’t truly appreciate it until i watched the new movie :/ anyway getting her internal monologue on aaron and her history with love is a brilliant insight. and honestly i appreciated her crush on aaron a lot more in the musical because of this song. also i liked the bits like ‘do you have an eraser?’ ‘i would love to’ because they’re hilarious
apex predator is an interesting one. i haven’t watched the musical in a while but i’m pretty sure in the stage version gretchen finds out sbout cady’s crush on aaron in this song. so seeing cady’s realisation that she’s not entirely safe with this new “friend” of hers. i don’t remember getting as much of cady dwelling on this in the original movie but i liked seeing it in the musical.
stupid with love (reprise) is a song i don’t have too much to say about, but i liked cady pretending to be bad at math being more of an accident here. it seems to show cady as a little more sympathetic, but still a bad person because of her keeping up the act
i also don’t have too much to say about revenge party apart from it being a good montage of cady, janis and damien’s plan. and the focus on cady ending up with aaron is interesting, showing how cady’s fixated herself on getting with aaron. cady also only agreeing to crack gretchen because of aaron is interesting. the musical puts a lot of focus on cady trying to use manipulation as a way of getting aaron (the taking down of regina, her pretending to be bad at math and the party scene). and i liked that focus.
fearless. this sows the seeds for cady becoming the new queen bee, with gretchen instantly turning to admire cady. we also see this with regina’s part, in her observation of the ‘new hair, new skirt’ - representative of cady’s personality changing. it also shows a bit of manipulation on cady’s end (i did it for me, sure, but also for you) but mostly i think she’s just happy she won. idk i don’t listen to fearless enough to analyse it
am i the only one who imagined a timeskip between fearless and stop? anyway
stop shows cady’s fixation on aaron; talking about her failing math and damien saying ‘my god girl, he’s just a guy’ showing that damien and janis have started to pick up on cady’s changing. also showing that cady can’t stop herself from fixating on aaron. which again. i think that’s very prominent in the musical
more is better is a song i’m salty about being cut from the new movie. i could soend an eternity analysing ut, like the start when cady stops herself from talking about the animals she observed because she fears it will be cringe. or the slower speed of this song contrasting the faster paced songs she sang at the start of the musical. or the fact tbat she’s adopted regina’s sentiment of ‘more is always better’. the mentions of stars and how cady almost sounds wistful. showing that she doesn’t want to be trapped in the role of queen bee anymore either. and showing that she misses the simplicity of her old life. then her bringing it back to the way she’s started dressing. and then that moment when aaron sees that cady has become a plastic; except i liked it more in the musical because you could see the lead-up to his realisation in the verses samg before. when aaron drops the line ‘i would prefer the girl you were’, i believe cady truly realises that she wants to change. obviously the janis bit adds to that as well, but this moment is very profound. then aaron turns cady’s own words back on cady and cady finishes by repeating his sentiment; that she should have thought everything through properly. i might make a post just about this song tbh.
someone gets hurt (reprise) i mean what do i say. this is the big moment where everything falls apart for cady. where she loses her two best friends. and realises she’s become plastic. this paired with more is always better earlier makes these moments incredibly profound.
do this thing is about cady embracing herself again. its a nerdy song, with kevin’s rapping and cady hyping herself up, telling herself she can do it. this song is cady rebecoming herself. also the fact that she solves the final problem in front of aaron, instead of him being absent like in the original movie makes her win more profound. and her realisation that leads her to her speech in i see stars. when watching clips of that song cady seems so genuinely happy and i think that’s what makes this song brilliant.
i see stars. a brilliant finale to the musical and casy’s arx. her realisation that everyone is beautiful and deserves to be seen. and loved. it’s a beautiful song that i sing to motivate myself. the passion in cady’s voice as she sings it makes me trult happy as well, as you can tell she truly believes her own words. its a brilliant song and the rest of the actors joining in at the end makes it more beautiful; she’s convinced everyone of her words. also the line ‘it’s me and you, not us and her’ makes me so happy; showing that people don’t have to gang up on each other.
in conclusion, i’ve said my piece. cady heron is incredible in the original movie and the stage musical, but the way all her songs show her arc in the musical make me prefer it ever so slightly than the arc in either of the films.

🐻🐤🐰🦊 just some thoughts on the fnaf movie
🐻the attention to detail that was put into it, with all it’s little details and easter eggs. the posters in the background, (and i haven’t seen anyone bring this up), the guy who got face-mauled by the cupcake wearing a midnight motorist t-shirt. the spring lock scene. the fact that scariest of all the jumpscares (of which there weren’t a lot but it’s kind of for the younger demographic ig they can’t make it too bad) was freaking balloon boy. the highest kill count going to MVP Carl the Cupcake. this is what i mean when i say movies from established franchises should be made by fans, for fans.
AND THE MATPAT CAMEO. HIS ACTING ISNT EVEN BAD AND EVEN IF IT WAS I EOULD STILL LOEV ITTT DVDNFB
🐤 you can tell they put a lot of thought into the child actors. abby is phenomenal. the five missing children? properly creepy and sad looking.
🐰 characters were all really well written and entertaining. the karen aunt, for all that she is an antagonist and very much hateable, still manages to be funny. even background characters are hilarious, like Doug for example, and don’t even get me started on the friggin matpat cameo i nearly screamed in the movie theater.
🦊 vanessa and mike are naturally each other’s narrative foils (and stand-ins for respectively Michael Afton/Elizabeth Afton (MichaElizabeth if you will) and Charlotte Emily imo), and them saying the same line, the “that’s two jobs”, mike at the beginning, and vanessa at the end, TO THE SAME CHARACTER?? TO THE BIG FUCKIN BAD HIMSELF??? WHO THEY BOTH HAVE DEEP HISTORY WITH???? literally this is good writing. i’m not saying the movie is perfect because it isn’t, but this is good writing.
🐻 and vanessa, as much as she kind of is, doesn’t feel like a coward because her worst fear does come true. her own father, the person who she thought the world of, tries to kill her as soon as she steps out of line. her fear wasn’t unjustified. she spent her entire life under his control — has literally never known anything else, and to still rebel after so long must’ve been the hardest, most terrifying thing in the world but she still did it because she’d grown to care for mike and abby.
and this is what i mean when i quote that one post: “strong female characters ≠ characters who are female and punch good, but strong female characters = well-written female characters” like yeah, vanessa’s an antagonist, or an anti-hero i suppose, but she’s still, once again, likeable and mysterious and funny. and the “bring her here again and i’ll fucking shoot you”?? that was probably her first act of true rebellion, aside from telling mike more than she should’ve about the pizzeria.
🐤 mikes arc is a very obvious “let go of the past and learn to cherish the present” which isn’t exactly revolutionary, but i think it’s done quite well though it could be improved a bit. and as much as you think he is an absolute cabbage head for telling them they could have abby for even a second, but you still, once again, get it.
our man’s running on like two hours of sleep and also meds, finally getting to see his baby brother up-close and even touch his face for the first time in probably more than a decade of blaming himself, and then getting told he could go back and see his parents again, the grief over who he probably hasn’t been able to process since he had to take care of abby when they died (possibly even took his own life in the father’s case if he’s supposed to be a henry stand-in like i think and doesn’t that just make it fifty times worse)
and it’s set up that he wants that perfect family back, the kind that he had during his childhood, that abby never got to experience.
and maybe he feels guilty for that. maybe he thinks, in his sleep-deprived and grief-ridden mind, for only a moment, that she would be better off, since she seems to like the animatronics and their ghost children better than him and he still feels like he doesn’t know how to raise a kid.
🐰 speaking of abby, for once Child Character in the horror movie isn’t just there to do some stupid shit for Plot Reasons (cough, The Curse of La Llorona, cough cough). i mean yes, she does go with them at the climax, but she has been given no reason not to trust them and considering the fact that they are other children, it would honestly be more suspicious if she didn’t trust them (also we’ve been shown she doesn’t really have friends before the end, so they’re also her first and only friends, no wonder she’s clinging to them) plus she’s been left alone with the aunt she does not like, possibly still believing mike is abandoning her. you get it.
she’s also very entertaining in her sassiness. like “are you here to arrest my brother?” or “yeah, love you too bro, kinda don’t wanna die tho, can we leave?” literally i can’t stand kids in general, but especially so in in horror movies, but i would give my life for abby.
🦊and the drawing thing? it’s beautiful and sad and really hammers home the fact that these monsters, however scary they have been made by their brutal and cruel deaths, they were, and are, just children who didn’t deserve to die and communicate the same way children like abby do. it also makes abby herself relevant to the plot and actually useful.
🐻and about abby; i have my own Theory there. we know she wasn’t in the picture during Garrett’s disappearance, which means she’s at least twelve years younger than mike. it’s actually quite common for couples who are going through a rough patch to have kids to try to fix it, which i think is what happened here, made even more possible if they also had her as a sort of replacement for Garrett. this, as i said earlier, makes mike’s indecision all the more understandable — if abby doesn’t just look a lot like Garrett, but was actually supposed to be him and would’ve never existed if not for the tragedy.
but that’s Just A Theory. 🐻🐤🐰🦊

This is my humble take…
Joe Alwyn was Taylor’s best boyfriend. She knows this and her fans know this. But he demands actual work and accountability. Taylor is a white rich conservative girl first and foremost. And she’s very narcissist. Joe is the first boyfriend of hers to put actually limits on how her public personal affects him and their relationship. And she liked dating him at first because he was private and reserved and she was desperately trying to scape the industry and she found the most non-industry British man ever. She liked that security and knowing he didn’t attract that much attention. Then, she slowly gained her reputation back on track and realized that she could finally go back to being the person that plays for the media again. And yes, maybe her relationship with Joe was slowly fading — it happens a lot. But she clearly says in her lyrics that wanting to be shown off in public is one of the reasons too. Because she likes that every relationship she’s in gets consumed by her fans and the media.
And Joe Alwyn required her to go and do some work on herself! He comes from a very activist family. He was the one that made her be more open about social activism. It was because of him that she tried to do the bare minimum like encouraging during elections, have more racially diverse people on her music videos and tours, and do a very cringey job at supporting lgbt rights. But it was at least something…
Isn’t funny that the moment they broke up she went back to being very problematic? The climate terrorist that she’s been for the pass year and then wanting to sue people for spreading her private flights information (knowing this is public information). Then dating that racist man that mocked woman of color and admitted to watch what he did, being quiet about the war that’s going on, and the lame and immature issue she created over some of Olivia Rodrigo’s songs (a literal new artist and teenager at the time) to the point she cut total ties with her and her next man being a very typical conservative macho man that seems to love the attention just like her. She’s back at being who she’s always been…
“Your integrity makes me feel small” Yes, Taylor, indeed. I am glad you know this too.
oh you absolutely have said it all. this is extremely well said and on point.
i find it so odd that most swifties can't pinpoint that the real issue between joe and taylor was taylor once again giving into the industry and being a rich white capitalist which is something joe is not and does not want to be, and most likely caused the demise of their relationship. taylor herself has said this in her songs (like the lyrics in peace, as you said). so yeah, maybe she wanted marriage but joe probably wasn't comfortable marrying someone who had completely different morals than him which is his right. let's be real here.
and oh the relationship between her and travis probably set her "redemption arc" far back than ever. she really was finally speaking up on so many matters and now she's dating a problematic trump supporter, giving into the media frenzy with the NFL, and has done no activism despite having the biggest platform. i think what sucked the most was her being times person of the year and using it to talk about travis and how she wasted 6 years of her life being private. so disappointing. and the cherry on top are some of the lyrics from ttpd (ex. 1830s racism lyric) like WHAT?
another thing swifties misinterpret is that no one would've known joe if it wasn't for taylor and that he's living off of his songwriting credits from folklore/evermore. joe who is notoriously low-key and has stated he just wants to be seen as human never used taylor for clout and has avoided saying her name in interviews, even after the break-up. not because he didn't love her, but because he did not want to feed into the media frenzy. and if all eyes are on him, he's using it to make a statement about palestine which is amazing. sure, you may not have known joe alwyn if it wasn't for taylor but he never used taylor's fame to make him more famous. and might i argue, it was taylor who despite releasing positive songs about him sometimes didn't defend him (like in the folklore sessions where jack antonoff was obviously being rude to him? or how she told her fans not to go after john mayor releasing speak now tv but didn't say anything for joe when her fans have been harassing him like crazy?)
on the other hand, we have travis kelce who has most definitely brought her up in every capacity like on his brothers podcast and let's be real, most of the swifties didn't know who travis was (i didn't!) unless they were football fans. we saw proof of that when NFL sales and viewership was significantly higher. so yes, travis is using her name for clout and feeding into the media frenzy. and then you have swifties saying he loves her and supports which yes, can be true, but you cannot deny that taylor and travis' relationship fed the media, fed the NFL, and diverted attention from more important issues like gaza. and while taylor and travis had their eyes on them, they didn't use it to do any good.
so yes, you are right. joe was taylor's best boyfriend.

Personally I think there isn’t enough meta about Adricat being a girl coded character and you should make one too
Okay, so when I say "female coded," I mean that Adrien's character fulfils the role that female characters usually have done in media. He's the love interest, he's the emotional support. He's sensitive and he's emotional. He's the heart of the team. Marinette on the other hand is a "male coded" character. She's a leader, she comes up with strategies and plans, and she is the brains of the operation. I used to think that was really cool, the way they subverted gender roles and allowed the characters to shine as characters instead of putting them in a box. Marinette was a strong and determined person, but she also had moments of weakness and vulnerability. Adrien seemed like the usual trope of the damsel in distress, but he was also literally Chat Noir, who often escaped his own situation and whose arc was about him breaking of his father himself.
But then they leaned too far into it, and it just became a gender swapped version of the same tired tropes that we've all seen. Marinette became The Leader™ who can do no wrong and doesn't need to do that emotional support shit for her partner when he needs it. Adrien lost any and all agency in his own story, and effectively just became the damsel in distress who had to sit there and look pretty as he waited for Marinette the knight to come and save him. I mean, you can't get more on the nose than this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(And yeah, this is supposed to be the class' fanfiction and not representative of what the show was building up to, but this is literally what ended up happening.)
His choices became more and more irrelevant, and his feelings became more and more unimportant, until the entire Ladynoir dynamic became Marinette being The Leader™ who doesn't need to tell Chat Noir anything and doesn't owe him anything, and Chat Noir became the emotional support who is always attentive and considerate of Ladybug's needs to the point of invalidating his own. His feelings of sadness at being left out of the loop and being pushed away by Ladybug ultimately did not matter.
And then Season 5 spent its time setting up a rivalry between Marinette and Gabriel over what's best for Adrien. The fight wasn't Ladybug and Chat Noir against Monarch, but Marinette vs. Gabriel, and whoever won got to take Adrien home as a prize. Adrien's agency was diminished throughout Season 5 and annihilated entirely in the Season 5 finale, where he spends the confrontation with his father locked away in a white room while Marinette has to take the fight to Gabriel and confront him on Adrien's behalf. And he is sound asleep far away from the conflict while Marinette and Gabriel fight over what's best for Adrien instead of him, you know, deciding that himself.
I mean, the finale could not have been clearer about it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At least he's there in the dream lmao
And the end of Recreation reveals that Marinette is lying to Adrien about his father so as to protect him. Because apparently Adrien won't be able to control his emotions and needs someone else to make his decisions for him. Because clearly, he would be too emotional and wouldn't be able to make his own informed choices. And it's quite common for women to be told that they are too emotional and so the big strong man should make the decisions for them. So the female coded character is treated like his emotions are a weakness and a burden and like he requires other people to make his choices for him.
And so, Marinette the knight defeats the evil Gabriel, saves the helpless Adrien from his evil father, and they kiss in the sunset, and all is well. Except Adrien isn't being allowed to make informed choices about his own life and everyone around him is denying his autonomy, but he only exists to be the trophy for whoever won in the Marinette-Gabriel rivalry (which Marinette only won because Gabriel forfeited anyway), so he doesn't get to make choices and have any of those inconvenient emotions like anger or sadness, and all really is well.
Thomas Astruc even mentioned on Twitter that Chat Blanc was the reason why Adrien could not participate in the finale. And the implication is that he couldn't be there because he would be too emotional and would destroy the world. So Marinette had to do it for him, and Adrien had to be removed from his own story and put away in London with nightmares so that he wouldn't get in the way with his emotions. So yeah. The female coded character was reduced into being a damsel in distress and was told his emotions rendered him incapable of making his own choices because he wouldn't be able to control them.
Anyway, that's my take on it. Here are some other posts that discuss this.
Thank you for your ask!

Will enby Helsknight/trans Tanguish/top surgery scars/stubborn avoidant Welsknight in a gender crisis make it into the main story of RnS? Like, a full acknowledgment of it? Because yes, us on tumblr are aware (and happily bully RnS Wels for it) but I’m curious to how it may be brought up in the main storyline instead of rambles and drabbles. (Don’t get me wrong, those rambles and drabbles are what get me through the day. But my best friend, who isn’t in the MCYT fandom whatsoever, just caught up with RnS and doesn’t use tumblr, and besides spamming her with tumblr posts I wanna know how much I can revel in the glory of the skrunkles with her!)
That is a great question, actually. And the answer is I don't really know.
So this is one of the downsides to writing things chapter by chapter. If I had gone into this going "oh heck yeah they're trans", this would've come up in the plot way sooner. It's nice information 1) for all the trans folks reading and 2) because it has the potential to inform the themes in the narrative. This whole story is about two chief things I think: death [the inevitability of] and identity [what defines you and why]. Why should you care if literally no one else (including the universe) does? That would be so cool to speak about in terms of a trans allegory! Why do you care about gender when it's just one thing in a world of crazy things? Or at the very least, how does it inform your identity? But this is a change I made on a whim suddenly, and I know Exactly Where I Want This Plot To Go, so trans topics and allegories as Plot Points probably won't happen.
On the more technical side of introducing trans characters -- how do you do that without just dropping "oh btw they're trans" in? Like, how do you make it a relevant thing to talk about, that doesn't feel forced or shoehorned in, especially this late in the story? Probably me overthinking, but I read it done wrong so often. It gets tired. And if I ever work on my original stories, there are trans characters in there! If I can figure out how to Do It Well in a fanfic, then I can figure out how to do it in original fiction someday maybe. So I kinda wanna take the introduction seriously? I've actually been thinking about it so much I've thought about rewriting the intro to the next chapter ahaha [it already needs rewritten in general, there's a lot going on, but the intro was going to be Helsknight waking up from something, and he sleeps shirtless, and not addressing top surgery scars then would be kinda silly I think.]
I can say at the very least, Gender Avoidant Wels probably won't factor in the story much. He is a character, but I don't think he'll become Enough of a character to faithfully address something like a trans self discovery arc. At best his issues with gender might be mentioned in passing.
Sorry! I know you probably want a better answer! My answer is basically: I don't know I'm still working on it. I want it to be there, but the capacity it's there is undecided.
That being said, I've been sitting on this glorious ask since the shenanigans started and the temptation to just Do That grows every time I read it:

Nimble Fingers
Summary: You've never been a crafty person...but Jesse makes you want to try.
Pairing: ARC Trooper Jesse x F!Reader
Word Count: 2019
Warnings: Fluff
Tagging: @trixie2023 @n0vqni
A/N: I had Jesse ping-ponging around my brain, so I had to write him before I can write anyone else. Sorry.
Tumblr media
You stare at the lumpy, misshapen thing in your hands, and you sigh, “Nana, I don’t think I’m going to be able to do this.” You finally admit.
The older woman hurries over to you, the scent of cinnamon and vanilla following her into your space. She takes the thing (it’s supposed to be a sweater) out of your hands and looks at it through critical eyes, “It’s not…terrible, sweetie.”
“Nana.”
“You’re new at this, baby. You can’t expect it to be perfect on your first try.”
“I…” You sigh, “I know, Nana. I do. But-”
“-but you want it to be perfect for your boy?” Your Nana asks with a sly smile.
Your face heats and you drop your gaze, “Maybe I’m just not made for crafts-?”
“Nonsense. Everyone can create.” She says briskly, before she tosses the misshapen sweater into the pile of half finished projects, “But, perhaps we should have started with something easier.”
You cross your legs on the chair and wait for her to finish her thought.
“Let’s try quilting!”
“...isn’t that harder?” You ask dryly, “On account of the fact that I don’t know how to sew?”
“Nonsense, that’s what sewing machines are for! On your feet, my little Orange Blossom!” For such a tiny woman, she’s remarkably strong as she’s able to leverage you out of your seat and drag you from the living room and into her quilting room.
The Quilting Room is filled with just about every type of fabric that you can imagine, and several that you’ve never once considered. And there are dozens of quilts in bags to be delivered to the people who ordered them. And there’s one sitting on a drying rack.
“This is new, nana.” You note as you eye the pale yellow and green blanket.
“Oh, yes. Your brother asked me to make a blanket for the baby.” She moves some crates out of the way, “Here you go, darling. Have a seat.”
Obediently, you slide into the chair, and look at the sewing machine, suddenly feeling a lot younger than your almost 25 years, “Nana-”
“Hush, I’m going to teach you how to use it. First we have to plan what we’re sewing.” She pauses and glances at your slightly overwhelmed face, and she laughs, “Okay, how about we take a step back, and just pick on colors and a pattern for a blanket, hm?”
“Well…blue and white for the colors,” You say, thinking about Jesse’s armor colors, “And I don’t know about patterns-?”
“We’ll do something very basic then-” She mumbles as she scurries around the room. Your nana returns with an armful of cloth and a box of supplies, “Alright. So, quilting-” And she starts to lecture you on how to quilt.
10 minutes in, your eyes are wide and slightly panicked, and you turn your frantic gaze to your grandfather, who’s been listening for about five minutes.
“You’re overwhelming the girl, Jyll.” Your grandfather scolds.
“Honestly, this is really basic-” She huffs.
“Basic for you, perhaps. But she’s not done this before.” Your grandfather lightly claps your shoulder, “Come with me, girlie.”
You scramble to your feet after him, and he leads you through the house to his own workroom, which smells like different types of woods. Your grandfather is a woodworker, though now he doesn’t make as much furniture as he used to, preferring to make vanity pieces now.
“Now, you want to make a present for that nice young man you introduced to us at dinner last week, right?” He asks as he settles in his chair with a groan, “Jesse, is his name, right?”
“Yeah.” You turn your gaze away from a carved tooka that looks like it’s going to spring to life and jump at you, “He doesn’t have things, and I just want to give him something-” You sigh, “That sounds stupid, doesn’t it?”
He kicks a stool over to you, and you sink onto it.
“Not at all.” He smiles at you, “Your nana made me a blanket when we first started dating all those years ago, and I still have it. It was my most cherished possession…right up until she gave me your mother and uncle.”
You smile at him, “That’s sweet.”
“It is.” He agrees, “And, unless I’m greatly overestimating your boy, I think he’ll be happy with anything you give him, especially if you make it.”
“But, that’s the thing.” You say, “I can’t make things!”
“You think he’ll treasure it any less because it’s a little lumpy or misshapen?” Your grandfather asks with an arched brow, and your argument dies on your tongue.
Because he’s right, of course. He generally is.
“How about we carve something for your boy. Something he can wear around his neck maybe.” He strokes his beard for a moment, “Come over here, lass. Let’s find a good wood for this.”
Tumblr media
It’s been two weeks since the day you finished the simple wooden ring with your grandfather. You carved the whole thing yourself, under his supervision, and then left it with him so he can treat it and find a cord for it to hang from.
But it’s finally done.
You used a pale colored wood, and carefully (but clumsily) carved your name and Jesse’s inside the band, while the outside is covered in vines. And the ring itself is hanging from a leather cord.
It’s not perfect. There are some obvious mistakes to the carvings, but your grandfather swore up and down that Jesse will love it, mistakes and all.
So here you are, waiting for Jesse in your apartment, with the small box holding his present on the table next to you, and dinner finishing up on the stove.
The box is something your grandfather made, claiming that all men need a good box to store their valuables in, and no amount of talking would convince him that Jesse doesn’t have any valuables. There’s also another smaller box inside the box, though your grandparents refused to tell you what was in it, claiming that it’s a present for Jesse and that you’re not allowed to look.
You learned a long time ago that your grandparents will do whatever they want, so you didn’t push too hard.
The familiar sound of your door code being entered reaches your ears, and you step into the hallway just as the door slides open. Jesse looks exhausted, but all of the exhaustion drains away when he sees you standing there.
“Cyare!”
You grin at him, “Welcome back,”
Jesse sets his helmet down on the shelf next to the door, and then he holds his arms out so you can throw yourself into them. “I missed you,” He says warmly as he folds you into a tight hug.
“You saw me this morning,”
“I know, a whole 12 hours without being able to see you, it’s practically torture.” Jesse says dramatically, before he pulls away and kisses the tip of your nose, “How was your day?”
“It wasn’t bad. I saw Nana and Grandpa today. They missed you at lunch.”
“I’m sorry I had to dip out on them,” Jesse says, releasing you so he’s able to remove his armor, “I talked to Rex, and barring a surprise deployment, I might be able to make it next week.”
“They’ll be thrilled.” You reply, “Mona is close to popping, and they want you there to meet the baby. I think my sister-in-law likes you more than me.” You add with a laugh.
“Now, I know that isn’t true.” Jesse says easily as he finishes pulling his armor off and rolls his shoulders, “Dinner smells amazing, what are you making?”
“Oh, I’m just warming up some of the stew Nana made for lunch. It’ll be a little bit before it’s done if you want to change?”
“Hm. Might not be a bad idea,” He rolls his head, “I’m going to grab a shower too,” Jesse glances at you and flashes a mischievous smile, “Wanna join?”
“Only if you want dinner to burn,” You counter, before you step closer to him and stand on your toes to kiss him, “I have a surprise for you when you’re done.”
“Oh?”
“Go shower, it’ll hold.”
“Yes ma’am,” Jesse kisses you three times in quick succession, before he steps around you and heads to the bedroom. You wait until you hear the water turn on, before you step back into the kitchen.
You glance at the stew, and try to smother your nerves, but finally it gets the better of you, and you open the box to pull out the ring you carved him. It’d be better if you gave it to him personally anyway.
You curl your hand around the ring, and move back to the stove to make sure that the dinner won’t burn.
Jesse emerges from the bedroom less than ten minutes later, and he immediately slides his arms around your waist and kisses the side of your neck.
“Feel better?”
“Much.” Jesse presses another kiss to your neck, and then he turns your head to kiss you properly, “Your shower does wonders in working out my muscle soreness.”
You laugh, “That is why I bought it.” You glance at him with a broad grin on your face, “If you’re nice, maybe I’ll give you a massage tonight.”
“I can be nice.” Jesse says immediately.
You just grin at his predictable answer, and then you nod towards the table, “Everything in the box is for you. Including the box.”
Jesse glances at the table and releases you, allowing you to turn and join him at that table. He curiously runs his fingers over the fine wooden box, “He carved a star map into the box.” Jesse says, sounding surprised, “Leading back to…huh…”
You tilt your head curiously and Jesse flashes an amused smile, “It’s more than a star map. It’s a road map back to here. This apartment. In case I can’t find my way home, I guess.”
You laugh softly, “That sounds like him.”
He opens the box, and pulls out the other box with an amused quirk of his lips. Slowly he opens the box, and his jaw drops, “Babe, I can’t accept this-” He blurts.
“What is it?”
“Uh…well…” He turns the box towards you, revealing a very nice watch. Actually, it looks almost identical to the watch your brother got when he reached the age of majority. “This is too much-”
“Check the back of the watch,” You offer with a small smile.
Jesse eyes you suspiciously, but flips the watch and stares at the back of it silently for a moment. And when he speaks there’s something fragile in his voice, “Welcome to the family, Jesse. Love Nana and Pa.” He reads out, his voice slightly shaky. “Babe-”
“I didn’t know that they were going to do that,” You say quietly, “But I’m not surprised. My family loves you.” A smile lifts your lips, “Almost as much as I do.”
Jesse slides the watch around his wrist, and it fits perfectly, “I love it.” He admits quietly, “I don’t know how I’m going to thank them for this.”
“A simple thank you will be enough, Jesse. You’re family now, after all.” You pause and bite your lower lip, your gift really doesn’t compare to a watch, but you want to give it anyway. “I have a present for you too.”
He turns his gaze away from the watch and focuses his attention on you, “You do?”
“I…It’s not a watch,” You offer sheepishly, “And it’s not very well made, I’m not really crafty-” You trail off as you pull the ring from your pocket and hold it out to him.
Jesse takes it from you, and slowly runs his fingers over it, “You made this?” He asks, his voice hushed.
“Yeah, I mean. Grandpa helped a lot. And it’s not perfect, and it you don’t like it-”
“I love it.” He interrupts a broad grin on his face, “Did you do the carvings too?”
“Um…yeah.” You admit, “they’re a little wonky-”
Jesse drapes the ring around his neck and slides his chair so he’s sitting right next to you, “I love it. I love you.”
Your face heats, “I just wanted to show you how much I love you-,” You admit.
You’re unable to finish your sentence as Jesse crashes his lips against yours, “I love it.” he repeats against your lips, “So much. Almost as much as I love you.”
You kiss him gently, “I love you too.”

What are those: Side Story: How does Saphron and Terra react to their son being a Dragon Faunus just like his father?
He’s What?
Jaune: Okay… (Sniff sniff!) Hmm… Seems like i’m all alone this time… Like make the call…
Jaune: …
Jaune: …
Jaune: Pick up, come on please pick up…
(Click~!)
: Cotta Arc Residence, to who… Oh! Hey, Jaune!
Jaune: Hey, Saphron.
Spahron: How’s my favourite little brother doing?
Jaune: I’m lright, most things considered. Is, Terra there?
Saphron: Yeah, one moment; Terra?!
Terra: Yeah?
Saphron: Jaune’s calling, he wants to speak to you!
Terra: Jaune’s calling~! Jaune? Hi, Jaune!
Jaune: Hi, Terra. And, hello, Adrian, hows my favourite little nephew?
Adrian: Bwua~!
Jaune: Sounds like he was trying to say my name.
Terra: Sounds like he was.
Saphron: Mommy should be his first words, not, Jaune you little rascal~!
Adrian: Ah-haha!
Terra: No he’ll be saying, Mom first.
Saphron: We’ll see… Nice outfit by the way.
Terra: And, horns? When did you get those?
Jaune: Oh, well my teacher wanted to test my capacity to breath fire; So he had me push my flame to the limits, and well, these happened. I’m not sure why, or how, but they did. As for the clothes, well they set me on fire…
Saphron: They set you on fire?!
Jaune: It was to test my ability to withstand fire. They incinerated all my clothes… I lost my, Pumpkin Pete’s hoodie in the fire…
Saphron: Not the hoodie?! You spent months trying to get that!
Jaune: Yeah, luckily my girlfriend is, Pumpkin Pete’s poster girl, she told me she would get me a replacement. One with a zipper, I can’t wear anything that is an overhead shirt because of these things. Hehe.
Saphron: Girlfriend?
Terra: And, it’s that girl on the cereal?
Jaune: Yeah, her name is, Pyrrha Nikos. She actually my partner here at, Beacon. She basically claimed the spot as first chosen.
Terra: First chosen?
Jaune: If a faunas develops a harem, there is this hierarchical set up in it. It doesn’t mean anything, bar she was the first picked.
Saphron: Harem? Jaune, are you making a harem?!
Jaune: Uhh… Yeah… I am. It wasn’t my plan to, I would have been more than happy for it to be just me, and Pyrrha. But, since I can, and dozens of faunas are chasing after me…
Terra: You started a harem.
Jaune: There’s only the three of us. Honestly I haven’t done anything, Pyrrha is actually the one who started it. I was just teasing a girl, Pyrrha was the one who pulled her into a supply closet.
Terra: And, suddenly she in your harem?
Jaune: No… That… that happened after our little tryst in a changing booth…
Saphron: A changing booth? That reminds me of our times in a changing booth. Spending all that time ‘trying on’ clothes was so much fun~!
Terra: I had more fun ‘trying on’ those clothes as home~! So, Jqune, since Pyrrha is your, ‘First Chosen,’ what does that make me?
Jaune: W-What are you talking about?
Terra: She’s your first girlfriend, first chosen, harem member, whatever you want to call her. I’m the mother to your first child, what does that make me?
Jaune: O-Oh… T-T-That… I don’t know… I’ll have to ask around…
Terra: Please do so, I would like to have a title that better then, ‘Baby Mommy.’
Jaune: Don’t say that again.
Saphron: But, its true. She is your baby mommy.
Jaune: Quit referring to your wife like that.
Saphron: But, it’s hot!
Jaune: Okay… So speaking of, Adrian. I wanted to call to see if you had any news if, Adrian is a… is a faunas?
Terra: No, no he isn’t.
Jaune: He isn’t?
Terra: He has, nor will have any faunas traits in the future.
Jaune: Haaa… That’s a relief.
Saphron: What’s was the problem with, Adrian potentially being a faunas though? You are a faunas, I wouldn’t care if my son was a faunas, I only care he is a healthy baby boy.
Jaune: Because, I have the wife of the chieftain of Menagerie hovering about me, High Leader to the White Fang breathing down my neck, a fantical faction of the, White Fang who wants to start a ‘holy’ race war in my name, and lastly I have the knowledge that a group of zealot faunas have started a cult worshiping me as a god. Do you have any idea how scared I am, how worried I am if they learn about my son? I may be putting on a smile, and easily accepting my place as some sort of messiah figure, but, Saphron… I’m scared as all hell about what the future may bring. It’s spiralling out of control, and I have no idea what’s happening, let alone what may happen. And, that’s not saying it will be the faunas that hurts my family, could be the, Schnee Dust Company, Jacques Schnee has had a beef with me for years. Atlas is a bunch of paranoid lunatics so they may try something. Being paranoid myself is the only thing I’ve got to defend myself against what may happen. I’m scared… There’s nothing else to it.
Saphron: Oh… I didn’t know.
Terra: I’m sorry to hear that, Jaune. If there is anything we can do to help you?
Jaune: Just stay safe, and make sure nothing bad happens to, Adrian. Okay?
Saphron: Don’t worry, Jaune; I’m a, Arc, and I’m a mother. You know how we, Arc’s get when it come to protecting our young. Don’t worry, I’ll keep him safe.
Jaune: That’s all I can ask for… But, if you need anything, anything at all just let me know. You know I’m filthy rich, so money won’t be an issue.
Saphron: You already payed for this house as our wedding present, we don’t need any money.
Terra: But, there is something else we do need… Well, it’s more of a want than a need really.
Jaune: And, what is…? (Sniff, sniff!) Oh no…
Saphron: What is it?
Terra: Is that person who was spying on you, are they back?
Jaune: No, I dealt with her, but this is worse.
Terra: Worse…?!
Saphron: What is it?
Jaune: It’s…
: Jauney~!
Jaune: It’s mom…
Juniper: There you are, I’ve been looking…? Oh, Hello, Saphron, Terra, wittle Adrikins~!
ST: Hi mom~!
Adrian: Bwah-haha!
Juniper: Why are you calling your sisters, Jaune? Something faunas related?
Jaune: You could say that.
Juniper: Does it have to do with, Adrian being your son?
ST: WHAT?!
Jaune: You knew?!
Juniper: I’ve know for years. Especially now since, Adrian looks just like his father when he was his age.
Jaune: He does?
Juniper: Of course. Here, look at this photo.
Jaune: Oh shit, he does look like me…
Saphron: Aww~! He’s adorable!
Terra: They look like splitting images of each other.
Juniper: Yes, so you don’t need to hide this, at least from your family anymore.
Terra: Oh good, because there is something we, mostly I want from you, Jaune.
Jaune: And, that is…?
Terra: Do you… Do you want to give, Adrian a sibling?
Jaune: What?!
Juniper:
YES!!!
///
Haa… At last, I’m free…
This has been stuck in my draft box for months. It just wasn’t continuity appropriate to do it. But, it’s finally done.
Do enjoy~!

Live Action ATLA Rant
(Spoilers obviously)
tw: mentions of abuse
(If there is a better way to word that trigger warning or if I missed anything please let me know)
This rant is gonna be about the Agni Kai against Zuko in Ozai in the live action adaptation of Avatar: the Last Airbender.
Now first off I want to say I’m well aware that adaptations will change things and I am all for that as long as the change makes the story better. Like I love the changes made to Bill and Frank and Henry and Sam in the Last of Us adaptation. But I will complain if the changes made weaken the story being told. And that’s what happened with Ozai and Zuko’s Agni Kai. So here are my reasons as to why I don’t like the changes made. (Also if you like the changes made, that’s totally fine, this is just for me to rant about something bugging me).
1. Zuko fights back in the Agni Kai. Now this is gonna probably be the most of the rant so let’s break it down.
- Zuko wouldn’t have been banished: in the original Zuko was banished because he literally refused to fight in the Agni Kai and it was seen as dishonorable and an insult to the Fire Nation. But having him fight back is him engaging and honoring the Fire Nation tradition. Yeah, he lost, but he wouldn’t be banished for that. When Zuko and Zhao have their fight and Zuko wins, Zhao isn’t exiled, Zuko wins and gets to put Zhao in his place. Losing is not dishonorable and Ozai shouldn’t have been able to banish him for that. But that’s very nitpicky, I’ll be honest about that, so let’s move to the next point.
- It takes away from Zuko’s character arc. Zuko isn’t a violent person. He was raised by his mother to be kind. He stood out in his family because of this. So when the Agni Kai comes, he refuses to fight his father and is marked and banished for doing so and the only way to earn his honor back is to find the Avatar, which is a seemingly impossible task to do. Being banished and abandoned by his family (besides Iroh) leads Zuko down a dark and violent path searching for the Avatar for years because he’s been to led to believe that violence is the only way his family will forgive and accept him. Then, in season two, Zuko and Iroh are branded traitors for helping the Northern Water Tribe which causes Zuko’s search for the Avatar to stop. While in hiding, Zuko sees firsthand all the damage the Fire Nation has done to the other nations. Also him and Iroh are able to set up a pretty normal life for themselves and Zuko actually seems happy. But then, when Azula promises that Ozai will be proud if Zuko helped her kill the avatar, Zuko relapses back into his violent tendencies and helps Azula, betraying Iroh in the process. When it appears that Aang had been killed, Zuko is welcomed home and crowned the prince of the Fire Nation once again. So he’s happy now, right? He got everything he wanted, right? No he’s not happy because he realizes that this isn’t actually what he wants. In fact Zuko hates himself. He hates himself for allowing and contributing to all the violence the Fire Nation is committing against the other Nations. He hates himself for betraying his uncle, the only person in his family who actually wanted to help him. He hates himself for doing all these awful things just to earn the approval of his father, a man who saw Zuko as an embarrassment for just being who he was. He hates himself for forgetting what his mother taught him and becoming more like Azula and Ozai. That’s why, when Zuko turns on Ozai, he tells him that the Fire Nation needs to enter an era of peace and kindness to make up for the era of violence they’ve been in for years, but they can never do that as long as Ozai is the Fire Lord and that’s why Zuko joins the Avatar and help him take down Ozai. Zuko wasn’t violent growing up. He wasn’t like Azula or Ozai. He stood out because he was kind. Ozai saw that as a weakness and when Zuko begged to not fight him, Ozai saw Zuko as an embarrassment who needed to be punished causing Zuko to go down the path he goes down in the series.Having Zuko choose to fight Ozai in the Agni Kai feels like it negates so much of that.
- Zuko almost wins. In the live action adaptation, when Zuko fights against Ozai, they imply that Zuko is strong enough to beat Ozai. I’m sorry, what? Compared to Ozai, Iroh and Azula, Zuko is arguably the weakest firebender in the family. He learns sword fighting so he didn’t have to only rely on his firebending. How is Zuko able to almost beat Ozai in a one-on-one? It also just looks bad from a writing standpoint. In the first season, you are showing that the main villain could easily lose to his son? Ozai should seem unbeatable. When Aang fights Ozai in the finale, Aang almost loses to Ozai until Aang accesses the Avatar State. Ozai shouldn’t be almost losing fights to children who don’t have god-level powers.
- There was a better way to have a fight if they wanted to have a fight. If the creators really wanted to show more of a fight between Ozai and Zuko, they should’ve had Zuko stay on the defensive for the whole fight. Have Ozai be relentless against Zuko as Zuko is just barely able to avoid or block the attacks, while trying to get his father to stop. Not only doesn’t it make Ozai look more ruthless, but it makes you feel more for Zuko as this child tries desperately to stop his father from hurting him only to inevitably fail. And you can still have Ozai express disappointment in Zuko for not even trying to fight back, seeing it as Zuko disrespecting their tradition. But idk, I’m not a writer.
2. They make Ozai look sad when he burns Zuko’s face. I’m sorry, but why are we trying to make Ozai look sympathetic? He’s an abuser. He’s actively choosing to burn his child. He’s not doing it because he’s forced to or anything. It was his decision. Sometimes villains don’t have to be complex to be good. Ozai is an evil man who abuses his children constantly. He doesn’t get to look remorseful as he’s doing it.
3. The Agni Kai was so much smaller in the adaptation. In the original, the Agni Kai took place in front of hundreds of people and this is important to Zuko’s character because not only was he punished and exiled for how he acted in the fight, but he was also humiliated as all those people watched as his father punished him for wanting to not fight his father. Making it such a small event just makes it feel less impactful than it could’ve been.
4. Having Iroh speak out against the Agni Kai takes away from his character. (This is also kinda nitpicky but that hasn’t stopped us before so why should it now?). In the original, Iroh not speaking out or trying to stop the Agni Kai is something that he deeply regrets. He watched as his nephew was humiliated in front of hundreds of people and didn’t do anything to help him. That’s why Iroh is with Zuko for a majority of the show. He knows Zuko. He knows who Zuko was before the Agni Kai and why he’s been acting the way he is while looking for the avatar. He felt like he let Zuko down and wants to help Zuko get what he needs. It’s why Iroh never chooses leaves Zuko side and having Iroh try to stop Ozai just lessens that a little bit for me.
To wrap it all up, i think the changes made to the Zuko and Ozai Agni Kai in the live action adaptation of ATLA aren’t good changes and weaken a lot the characters involved in the scene. But that’s just my opinion.
(Sorry if some of this was wrong or didn’t make sense, I’m writing this at midnight and just kinda going off memory for some of the details).
((Also, If you actually read all this, you’re awesome btw. Have a nice day!))

Don’t forget, Sea Hawk is also apparently Asian. I also thought Frost might be Asian at first bc she kinda looks… maybe stereotypical isn’t the exact word, but just like what comes to mind when you think of a little Asian girl. Not to mention, she was originally designed as a white (Nordic coded?) teenager for this show before they decided to age her down into the little sister character. Never mind the fact the little sister character already existed in the old series with Glimmer and Allegra, and they could have done something with that, but I digress. I’ve also seen some people say Angella is Indian coded, because of the accent and her voice actress. Or maybe it’s because they think her gem is reminiscent of a bindi?
But yeah, idk about Perfuma, Entrapta, or Spinnerella. I think Perfuma could be latina because if the actress? But the character gives off the vibes of such a essential oils Karen that I associate with entitled white women, to the point I think she might just be a tanned white woman? Though I’ll admit, when I first saw her design I considered black and white biracial, and I considered Pacific Islander. So I have no idea. I’ve also seen some people interpret Entrapta as black. Though, I doubt it based on the hair alone. I like to think she’s latina, simply because I want her as my Latin rep, and not the literal cat. As for Spinnerella, I got nothing. Maybe white? All I know is that Huntara should have been black, and isn’t even coded as black. And I think that’s dumb, because I would have loved buff, queer, gets-a-character-arc Grace Jones in this show, since we didn’t get to have it in the old one.
Okay, hold on. I had no idea Sea Hawk was apparently half-Asian. I had to look this up. It was "confirmed" (as in, on Twitter) by the lead character designer for SPOP, who also "confirmed" Scorpia as half-Asian as well. However, I'm pretty sure Frosta is supposed to be Inuk like Katara, but I don't think that was ever confirmed. I could be wrong. I'm not even sure where her kingdom is located, for that matter. The worldbuilding in SPOP sucks so badly I barely remember how the kingdoms were like, save for Perfuma's and maybe Mermista's.
Idk, man. I honestly don't think that much about most characters' ethnicities, because the SPOP crew clearly didn't put a lot of thought into it. I mean, the literal cat teenager who licks herself, who walks on fours, who bites and claws people, who hisses and hates water, and who's sexualized on top of it all, is supposed to be Latina. Or Iranian or Middle Eastern, because apparently OG Catra came from "Purrsia", which is like... the Persian Empire? And fans really want to apply that to the reboot, too. Except Catra's origins were never brought up in SPOP, only that Catra was found abandoned in a cardboard box according to Nate. Regardless, neither theories are great because both Latinas and Iranian women (and Middle Eastern women in general) are not treated like people. They're sexualized and are victims of colonization. I've heard people headcanon Catra as Indigenous, too. Which is even worse considering she got her hair cut against her will.
As for the other characters... I just don't care, lmao. I will agree that Huntara should've been black, too. But since the SPOP crew didn't care about developing their kingdoms and their origins, then I don't think that hard. I mainly mention and dissect "Latina" Catra because the fandom won't shut up about her. Idk about Entrapta's ethnicity, but if Latina Entrapta makes you happy, go for it. Especially because Latin America is pretty diverse, so there are a lot of possibilities.
I don't agree with the term Karen, though. I get what you mean, that Perfuma is annoying and ableist and treats other people like garbage, but sadly that's another term that actual misogynists use against any women who get angry. But I know that's not your intention, I get where you come from.

Who I initially thought my Favorite RWBY characters would be vs Who my favorite characters actually are (yes i lurk in fandoms before joining them)
Neopolitan (who i thought would be my fave)
Tumblr media
I initially thought Neopolitan would be my favorite character based on how much love the fandom had for her. Turns out she barely showed up and and doesn’t even have a single line of dialogue 😭 (which is fine if its done well……) Her design is still really cool though.
Tyrian Callows (My Actual Fave)
Tumblr media
Upong first seeing Tyrian In the intro i thought I would hate him. His smile creeped me the hell out and I thought he looked musty and like he didn’t wear deodorant 😭 That all changed when he was introduced,he just ended up stealing the show for me.
Anyways, i love and simp for this deranged man and that’s why he’s my #1 (only downside is he doesn’t get much screen-time)
Cinder Fall (Who I thought would be a Fave)
Tumblr media
Based on what the fandom said about Cinder i thought i would love her as I have a thing for female villians and characters hated in a fandom. But it turns out, I don’t really like her that much. i find Cinder to be kind of annoying actually. (I think I’d like her more if she didn’t constantly get her butt kicked whenever she was on screen)
Jaune Arc (My actual fave)
Tumblr media
I thought I’d hate Jaune at first honestly 😭 since alot of the fandom liked to call him a “self insert” and “annoying white boy”. Turns out Jaune is just a sweet and good hearted Himbo, he’s very wholesome and I love him.
Ruby Rose (who I thought would be a fave)
Tumblr media
I actually do love Ruby ( I love all the girls) but she isn’t in my top 5 so i decided to include her. I just thought Ruby would be a favorite of mine based on her design alone, that’s literally it. (her original outfit specifically)
Salem (my actual fave)
Tumblr media
Before I watched RWBY i watched Youtube videos about it beforehand and one of the vidoes I watched (cant remember the name) was basically ranting about how Salem was a shit villian and a characer. So i fully went into the show thinking I wouldn’t like her.
Turns out, I greatly enjoy her backstory and she quickly became one of my favorite characters. I’m a mami salami lover until I die.
Qrow (Who I thought would be a fave)
Tumblr media
I took one look at this man, saw that he was a dilf and thought “yeah he’ll definitely be my fave” but it didn’t end up that way 😭 (I do love Qrow tho)
Ozpin (my actual fave)
Tumblr media
I honestly thought Ozpin was boring at first. (Like he is just the headmaster of a school 🙄) But it turns out he was secretly a reincarnating wizard the entire time. The Lost Fable actually made him interesting and a favorite character of mine. (which is weird because a lot of YouTubers and RWDE people hate the lost fable and seem to think it ruined his character)
Penny Polendina (who I thought would be my fave)
Tumblr media
I love Penny. However, she’s in the same boat as Ruby. I thought she would be my favorite character based on her design alone. While her design is really pretty, and she’s a sweet person, she doesn’t really interest me as a character.
Oscar Pine (My actual fave)
Tumblr media
When I first saw Oscar, I actively didn’t like him (like, are you telling me Oz is going to be this child?). Now I love him, he’s my precious child, and he means everything to me

I really want to babble about how thematically, this ending makes no sense, and it's so contrary to what we've seen up to this point, and how it's not just that it's sad and that TTJ deserves better (though both are true); it's a story about a man who wanted to die that ends up with him… basically committing assisted suicide to save the world, because well, I guess he was right to want to die all along, even though his reasons were ALWAYS because of the cruelty of others, not because of his own self.
Then he finally gains agency and a life that he wants to live, a simple life filled with love and fulfillment that is enough for him, and he doesn't want to die any longer. And it’s taken away from him and he is forced to go back into that mindset of seeking death. He was ready to live. He’d defied fate and he was ready to live. It’s bad. It’s not fulfilling. We already KNEW he would do anything to save LSS and her world. We didn’t need that proven.
It doesn't matter how hard you fight against your fate, how much you love and how much you strive to be a better person, if you are doomed to suffer and die, you will, is what TTJ's story tells us. And if you want to die, you may as well give in, because happiness never lasts.
I also want to ramble about how unfair it was to LSS, who at the end was deprived of agency and essentially just shifted around wherever she was needed, not being allowed to make decisions of her own. How episode thirty-five WOULD have been a much better ending, and if anything, what we see in TTJ's bo’re life in episode thirty-nine reinforces this.
But more than that it's just upsetting to me because this was such a good show, that presented such compelling ideas and did so in SUCH an entertaining way. And yes the scenery and costumes and aesthetics absolutely slapped. It's gorgeous as hell. But also the character dynamics were interesting and complex, and their relationships were easy to get invested in. There were fascinating relationships among the entire cast as well, not just between the leads and couples (XL and TTJ, LSS and Pian Ran). Yes, there were missteps along the way; the dream arc was about twice as long as it needed to be, and even Clam Gege and his sparkles could not save it, the show plodded along a bit in the early thirties (episodes like thirty-three were super disjointed because of time cuts), Mo Nv was added in as a new character for who knows what reason, etc. But nothing is perfect. This is still one of the better shows I’ve watched in a long time, and I was on edge for every new episode. A genuine enemies to lovers story with chemistry and anguish, hatred and tenderness, sometimes all at the same time. I was obsessed.
And… Tantai Jin is one of the best male leads I’ve seen for years. He’s so layered, so interesting, and so heartbreaking, and Yunxi does a beyond incredible job with every moment of his portrayal of him. He’s legitimately a tour de force in the role. Yunxi and Bai Lu both deserved better than this. But a great lead requires deserves a story that lives up to him, and TtEotM isn't that.
I hate that TTJ is going to probably kind of fade into obscurity, at least among English speaking fans, because people are going to be rightfully wary of recommending this drama now. And I can’t blame people, because if I’d known the ending, I probably wouldn’t have watched either. It left me feeling so empty today, and not in a ‘wow hurts so good’ way that true, well done, and cathartic tragedy does.
One can hope youku releases a ‘fix it’ clip like has happened with some other shows, that at least gives a happier ending for TTJ and LSS. Even then, that’s kind of putting a bandaid over a gaping wound, because a lot of the issues with the ending will still exist, but at least it might make it so I can recommend it with a ‘yeah the ending isn’t great, but it’s overall really good.’ And no the audio clip does not cut it.

Taiju Shiba Fluff - He is trying to redeem himself
Reader is female (I am just indulging myself here lol)
Warnings: violence, cursing, Taiju being aggressive against reader but not hitting her once, Taiju crying, Taiju questioning his faith
Time set: Just after the Christmas fight, Black Dragons Arc.
Tumblr media
3rd Person POV.
Taiju walked slowly towards the church, his feet crushing the fresh snow with his weight.
His face was puzzled, he remembered how he lost that battle and how he was nothing, no siblings anymore, no gang, no anything. His permanent scowl scaring the old grandmas that were walking out of the church.
He almost cried when he stepped into the sacred place. His mind flying back to the previous night. He sat at the rows of benches and began to pray his heart out. He muttered to himself his prayers, while some tears were shed. “Oh God, why have you done this to me? I devoted myself to you and lost my family, my power and my gang” he prayed silently, his whole body moving while he tried to stop crying.
“Oh dear Lord, I can’t lose anything else, I will be nothing by then. Send me a signal, an angel that will come and save me. Help me, I want to redeem myself. I have been a sinner. I have not been a good sibling, I couldn’t even protect them. I haven’t been a good gang leader either. Please, Oh almighty God, hear my prayers!” He screamed that last part between tears. He was lucky he was the only person there.
He got up, whipping his tears angrily with his jacket. “He will never listen to my prayers, he isn’t there for me like I’ve been for him” he said, muttering to himself while he went out of the church.
He didn’t have a place to stay, so he went to a park to sit around and maybe look at the snowy sky.
His eyes were red and puffy, but with his other features painted by anger, nobody noticed. Until some girl did.
He sat at a bench in the park, throwing his head back as he looked at the sky and tried to keep his own tears in.
Some kids were playing there until they saw him and proceeded to run away. He huffed in annoyance. “Even kids hate me now” he thought to himself. He closed his eyes and tried to compose himself.
“Hey, are you okay?” A sweet voice asked. He opened his eyes, to be greeted by a figure that was facing him. The light that was behind her made her look magical, angelical even. He shook his head bewildered.
“An angel, sent just for me” he thought his prayers had been heard. But soon the magic wore off when he saw it was a normal girl, just waiting patiently for him to respond if he was okay.
“Yeah, I’m okay, now fuck off!” He spat. She pursed her lips and sat down next to him. “The AUDACITY THIS BITCH HAS!?!?” Taiju thought.
“You don’t look okay, you are really bruised and your eyes are red. Have you been in a fight? Do you need me to get you to the hospital?” Concern painted the girl’s features as she looked at him with wide eyes.
“Again, I don’t need anything. I am just relaxing here, go away!” He said, his face getting a little red (anger and blush were guilty for it). “Do you know who I am?” He said, now towering a little bit over her to intimidate her.
“No” she simply responded, a little bit scared. “Aww she looks like a small mouse, so scared of a huge gigantic man like me” he laughed at her.
“I am not scared, whoever you may be” she tried to sound confident.
“ you should be scared of me!” He said, coming closer to her. She backed away a little bit. “Well, if you are going to be an asshole I’ll let you drown in your own thoughts. Bye, bye!” She moved away and got up.
He huffed as he sat back, until he reached for her wrist, gently stopping her. “Please, stay” he said, his voice suddenly small.
His tears threatened to fall again, his facade almost cracking. She noticed it and sat back. “Lord” Taiju thought “thank you for giving me a second chance in this life” he prayed, a small smile on his lips.
“Well, what has made you change your mind?” The girl was quick to ask. “You are the only person that doesn’t run away” he simply said, siting back.
She smiled “well, I am Y/n and you?” She held her hand out for him. “I am Taiju Shiba” he said, shaking her hand and seeing how perfectly her smaller and softer hand fitted on his own. He felt a soft blush creeping onto his face.
“Well, it is nice to meet you Taiju and Merry Christmas” she said, suddenly her phone rang. “Oh it’s my mother, I’ve got to go. See you around Shiba-kun!” She smiled softly at him before getting up and walking away.
He nodded his head and looked down at his hand, tracing with his eyes every curve her fingers had touched. He sat back now laughing a little bit. “You surely sent me your best angel, pal” he laughed looking at the sky.
Hakkai and Mitsuya were walking towards the Toman meeting when they saw Taiju there with the girl and when she left they saw how happy he looked.
“I will redeem myself, just to keep this girl as my friend!” He got up in one jump that scared both teenagers. Hakkai looked at Mitsuya bewildered and he gave him back the same look.
“TAIJU SHIBA WILL TRY TO REDEEM HIMSELF?!?!?!” They both thought, watching him walk away.

Okay okay I’ve been nothing but positive so far, some things I didn’t like as much and want to talk about:
- Luffy is just a little… too nice? I think he could stand to be a little more selfish. Let my baby boy steal! He would steal a ship in a heartbeat, he’s not THAT naive about pirates. Idk, he’s just a bit too chaotic good when he should be a bit more chaotic neutral.
- I’ve seen a lot of people say this was the better version of Syrup Village and it was certainly better paced and more heart-racing, but I think it was at the cost of Usopp’s character. It really did become Kaya’s story, which isn’t bad, but it underplay Usopp’s moment: of being the willing to fight alone to protect her and the village despite being so, so, so scared.
- And honestly I think it was Koby’s fault! I liked seeing Koby, Garp, and Helmeppo, see Koby grapple with Marine morality, but they are up so much of Usopp specifically’s screentime, and I think Sanji’s to a lesser degree.
Neither of them got their arc badass moments!
- And moving on from Syrup Village, the Baratie! Was amazing! Zeff and Sanji were great! But where was the rest of my chef family? Patty was there, but not in any meaningful way. I just didn’t feel the bond between all the chefs, them defending their home was removed entirely. They could have done it, too!
Have them rally against Arlong, let the chefs fight him for a little while before Luffy and Sanji show up. But oh well
- Nami didn’t steal the Merry, lol, which yeah I get why, especially because Zoro was in there. But look me in the eye and tell me Zoro getting to Arlong Park via being unconscious on the ship Nami stole would not be in character and hilarious.
That’s kinda it!

ML Plot Points: Heroes' Day
I mentioned in the “Lila” and “Ladybug replacement” post that Alya blames herself for what happened on Heroes’ Day. Here’s what happened:
Volpina made the illusion of Ladybug killing Chat Noir and Scarlet Moth made his move. Ladybug goes to Fu to ask for help, but he cannot go with her because he is using the Ox miraculous to prevent any of the akumas from wrecking his home, and therefore, finding/damaging the other miraculi. Fu just tells her to get the temp heroes she used before and do her best.
I first got the idea for this when thinking about what they should have done. More specifically, what is the most logical strategy that Ladybug could have tried with the five miraculous holders available? In canon they just ran dick first into the fray and hoped it would work. Twice. And somehow it did the second time.
The plan isn’t super complicated, but it doesn’t have to be. Ladybug and Chat Noir will run in and draw everyone’s attention. When they get most of the akumas in the same place together, they will ditch get away with their weapons so Carapace can trap them in a Shell-ter. In the meantime, Rena will use Mirage to hide herself and Queen Bee so they can get close to Scarlet Moth and see what defences he has going on. If Queen Bee gets the chance, she is to sneak attack him with Venom, take his miraculous and run.
The first part goes as well as could be expected. A couple of akumas are free, but they are quickly taken out and purified. The second part goes well at the beginning. Queen Bee and Rena Rouge arrive at the part of the tower where Scarlet Moth is at and see that he has no defences around himself. Queen Bee is suspicious, but Rena is thrilled and just keeps encouraging her to use venom on him and finish the fight already. We get some Queen-a Rouge banter when the rest of the team arrives. Now that Scarlet Moth is distracted, Queen bee jumps on him to eliminate him and… It’s an illusion.
A bunch of Akumas, including Dark Cupid, come out of hiding to attack and Scarlet Moth himself shows himself to gloat. Carapace is shot and akumatised and gets Rena shot and akumatised as well. Queen Bee successfully takes Dark Cupid down, but gets shot and akumatised.
With more and more akumas arriving, it’s now or never. While Ladybug is getting crowded, Chat Noir, in a last ditch effort, attacks him with a Cataclysm and hits the cane.
From then on it goes on as canon, only with the added complication of the heroes having to protect the civilians in the tower so the Sentimonster doesn’t toss them off.
This way, the heroes actually have a plan, they win by the skin of their teeth and Rena gets the setup for next season. We also don’t get the people rising up scenes, which helps Marinette feel like she cannot really rely on anyone for the Ladybug replacement arc.
It also makes the Scarlet Moth showing himself bit a little less dumb. In canon, he just tries sneaking up on them with no backup. Here he shows up to gloat because he has fuck-if-I-know-how-many akumas between him and the two non akumatised heroes. He’s still letting his hubris show, but it’s a little more justified.

Oh hell yeah be smart don’t go dick-first unless you know your nose will hit the wall first

Six Hearts vs. Fullbringers: Rukia vs. Tsukishima
Tumblr media
Yeah I’m legit mad this isn’t what we got.
Tsukishima isn’t the main villain of the story, but he pretends to be for a good portion of it, and he’s got an absolutely terrifying power that drives directly at the heart of the arc, the relationships between Ichigo and his friends. Tsukishima slowly tears them apart, first by participating in the assault on Uryu, and then by brainwashing every single human in Ichigo’s life, until he’s in a murderous state and actually fighting Chad and Orihime.
And then, in the semi-main event of the arc, he fights...Byakuya. A person who Ichigo has barely spoken to, and could probably go very happily his entire life without speaking to again. The guy who has spent this whole arc winning by subverting interpersonal relationships winds up failing, ironically, because Byakuya doesn’t actually value those relationships as much as he values abstract ideals, and so blasts his chest out without hesitation. It makes sense, I guess, but it doesn’t really do anything in the context of the story.
To the extent the Byakuya-Tsukishima fight does have symbolic relevance, it’s in regards to Ichigo’s relationship with Soul Society. Soul Society (and Byakuya) were going to execute Rukia. Ichigo fought to stop that, and reminded Soul Society that principles are more important than process, that governing isn’t just a mandate to preserve one’s government, but also a responsibility to do right by others. Rukia being sacrificed at the altar of justice would have perverted the very concept itself.
Which, cool and all, but if Rukia is the central character in all that...why isn’t she the one in this fight? If we’re going to test Ichigo’s relationship with Soul Society, shouldn’t it be through his oldest and closest ally? It’s a subplot that’s present in the earlier parts of the arc, though it gets forgotten. Keigo specifically brings up Rukia not being in touch as a reason Ichigo’s being such a grouch. He remembers her when thinking on his past pride as a Soul Reaper. He hears her voice when generating his Fullbring.
And in this final battle, especially when Ginjo is revealing how Soul Society was less then trusting of Ichigo, this should all be paid off! After all, Rukia might not have known about the badge when Ukitake gave it to Ichigo...but she’s Ukitake’s lieutenant now! I’d find it hard to believe she wasn’t told at some point in the last 18 months. So this fight should thematically not just represent Ichigo’s trust and relationship with Soul Society writ large, but also his friendship with Rukia specifically.
So much work has already been done to set it up! Rukia has probably the most well-developed past out of all the characters in the story-- we’ve seen flashbacks to her childhood, her academy days, and her time with Squad 13, and she’s been in the story since the very first chapter. So unlike Byakuya, we’ll have a wide range of old scenes for Tsukishima to insert himself into, to really scare the reader with how essential he can make himself to her life. Imagine Tsukishima giving her Kaien’s speech on heart, or Ukitake’s speech on honor, or saving her from Aizen on Sokyoku Hill. We were already a little worried about Rukia’s feelings toward Ichigo given her lack of communication, and what Ginjo has revealed about Soul Society...now that Tsukishima’s the most important person in her life so far, how could she possibly win?
Well, because of the Heart, duh. Tsukishima pretty consistently shows that he doesn’t understand or practice two-way relationships-- he was dependent on (and used by) Ginjo, something he reproduces with Moe, but there isn’t a sense of mutual support for either of those relationships. It’s one-way fealty. And he does the same thing when he paints himself into the pasts of Ichigo’s friends: it’s always as the provider, the beloved mentor, the patron.
And so in rewriting Rukia’s past I don’t think he’d bother to change her relationship with Ichigo much. Sure, he’d make it so that he came to Soul Society and stopped the Sokyoku, but all that stuff that happened before? Where it was just Rukia giving her power to Ichigo, and teaching him how to use it, and guiding him through this new life he was completely ill-equipped for? Why bother?
Well, because that’s where the bond was formed. Because personal relationships aren’t a transactional, tit-for-tat exchange of goods and services. Rukia might have had the power vis-a-vis Ichigo in those early days, but by being that person for him she grew, taking on a responsibility that allowed her to feel for the first time in decades like she was a strong, independent person. And this, combined with Ichigo time after time proving himself worthy of her powers and guidance, created such a trust that no pilfered monologue can shake. We saw it when Aaroniero was cosplaying Kaien back in Soul Society-- yes, he meant something to Rukia, but Ichigo means something to her today. She trusts him implicitly, because he earned it. And this fight is where that becomes explicit.
So yeah, this fight would have a whole lot of cutting Rukia without bleeding, and a whole lot of Tsukishima-insert flashbacks, and would maybe be intercut with Ginjo expositing to Ichigo about Soul Society’s nefarious spy device. And while Ginjo is trying to convince Ichigo that Soul Society (and by extension Rukia) are evil and out to get him, Tsukishima would be trying the reverse, avoiding Rukia’s established powers before trying to convince her that, considering Ichigo’s done nothing for her in her life, she should really be fighting him instead.
Rukia admits that Ichigo hasn’t done what Tsukishima has done for her. Then she blasts him through the chest with Soren Sokatsui, without the incantation. Something she admits to Tsukishima that she’d never even attempted before. But she believes in herself. Because she believed in Ichigo. And that’s why she still believes in him.

I mean personally for me I would appreciate at least 2 Sasha episodes in Season 3a to help flesh out her arc more cause I LOVE her but I feel more screentime around 3a (and maybe) a bit around Season 2, would have done wonders for her arc. It’s almost criminal how little we know of her bad homelife other than her parents are divorced.
What would you personally add to Sasha’s arc?
So my biggest issue on Sasha’s arc (and honestly most of season 3 aside from Andrias) is just how much is left unsaid. And a lot of that does come down to her family.
Everything we see regarding Sasha is her learning to turn a set of poor coping mechanisms (seeking control, aggression, etc), into something that could benefit those around her (being a leader). The problem is that there are just large chunks of that development that are missing, specifically the origin and most of her improvement. Which are both kind of important.
Now I will say I think these flaws stem from an aspect of the show that in some scenarios (namely True Colors) was incredibly important. And that was the use of Anne as the protagonist, and really the only character you ever see the POV of. What I mean by that is that unless a character directly explained their motivations on screen in front of Anne, you really don’t know it (even then you still got Sasha’s POV though so this isn’t a strict rule). The thing is though is that this doesn’t necessarily apply to season 3
Anyway yeah back on topic, like I said a big thing for me would be stating Sasha’s perspective on things back on earth. I’m not for suggesting a full backstory episode because I don’t see that flowing well with the overall show. However starting a Sasha centric episode with a final flashback to the day of the that they stole the music box (similar to Reunion and True Colors) I believe would work quite nicely to address Sasha’s dynamic with her parents and her friends. Additionally Anne speaking with the Waybrights and Wus (not Zeus autocorrect, no one wants to speak with Zeus ever) instead of writing a letter could allow an outside perspective on how both families were handling their missing daughters. This also avoids the issue of addressing this situation in Sasha’s apology to Anne (which seemed to be what the writers kept getting hung up on based on interviews).
That being said I’m not certain how exactly I would handle Sasha’s family dynamic. I don’t think it was necessarily healthy aside from the divorce based on her actions in The Third Temple flashback and throughout the show. But… I don’t think I’m necessarily qualified to handle that topic without a lot of research. Might come back to it though because I have at least a guess that I find interesting.
Anyway, I think my next big thing would be just making season 3 more Sasha centric. (And honestly if I were doing a full rewrite I would probably take tharrb’s approach and split S3 into two seasons, I think there just wasn’t enough time to address everything even if you took out the filler episodes especially with how large the main cast of the show is). Season 3a has a lot of potential ways that it could go but overall her arc was one of the most important ones to develop in that period.
Specifically I would want to show her developing a connection with the rebellion members and learning to lead the rebellion in a way that took all members concerns into account without endangering the group. And also her dealing with her feelings regarding Marcy and Anne. Which is a lot of aspects hence why I said you honestly would need to divide season 3 up.
My one additional point because I have opinions about it, is addressing the full reason why Sasha had her change of heart. Because I was reading on the topic and it just kind of bothered me.
Tumblr media
Like that is a pretty important aspect of the show to address and for some reason it just never is mentioned. Which is especially weird considering that she clearly had a change in perception by the season 3 finale and that is just such an interesting development that I want to see.
Anyway yeah, there’s a few other aspects to my overall take on Sasha. Like honestly I probably would have added another episode focusing on her in season 1 but my main issues with her arc are in season 3 so that’s most of what I addressed. Also this was very general so if you want further exploration of any topic I am always open to explaining it.
