He's perceptive, so you have to hide the mistletoe somewhere he would never check. Where is that place? Perhaps somewhere in the ADA's HQ, more specifically the doorway to the office.

Dazai walks right through the doorway, you in tow, only for you to stop and point upwards. He was confused, but caught on quickly.

His lips upturned in a smirk when he spotted the very object of your attention (and his now).

"My, my... who knew you were so desperate to kiss me that you would resort to such an old-fashioned way. You really are full of surprises, aren't you, belladonna?"

Although he did tease you about it, he wasted no time grabbing your chin and crashing his lips on yours. They were soft and he tasted slightly bitter from the coffee he had chugged downstairs at the café.

He pulled away with that same smirk on his face and, oh god, did you want to wipe it off his face. And you did just that, by kissing him once more. To which he let out a small noise.

Safe to say, you two completed absolutely no work that day, instead opting to go back to your apartment.

"Why should we stop just for work, hm? Let's continue this at home. Mine or yours?"

He's not the most aware of his surrounding all the time. Especially when he's in either the PM HQ or his apartment. So one of those places is probably the best. And you decide on his apartment as the hiding place.

When you go over to taste new wine with him, you point it out. Chuuya immediately turns a deep shade of red, at the same time wearing a giddy smile. He looks so adorable, just like a little child.

You can tell he's flustered, and so you don't push him into anything.

It is quite the surprise when he leans in, caressing your cheek gently. His lips taste sweet and they feel heavenly, like clouds. Even though that was his first kiss, it was good, great even.

He pulled away, his eyes half-lidded and lips parted. His cheeks were still red from embarrassment as well.

"Was that okay? Yeah?" (okay, now he's smug) "Was that enough, or do you need another."

Oh, you needed way more than another, and he knew that. But he was determined to satisfy whatever desire you had.

"The wine tasting can wait. Right now, I just want to taste you, baby."

OK, so I don’t give money to garbage articles, I’m mostly pulling from what I can remember seeing people post about it. Some things to look out for when trying to disseminate information over the internet. 

First off, be very weary of “anon” sources for gossip. PHW isn’t Richard Nixon, and this isn’t Watergate. There’s no need for anyone to be anonymous if they’re stating facts or speculating/giving an opinion. Tim Burton isn’t Kevin Feige, who employs cloak and dagger tactics for an 8-episode tv series only on one streaming network and will never be syndicated.  

NDA’s might be part of employment contracts, but they’d be hard to enforce, especially if part of the alleged information had already been leaked by a third party. If this person did have “insider” information worth anything, then their paycheque and job benefits are worth more than anything some rando clickbait gossip site could give them. Even minimum wage jobs aren’t worth risking in order to gossip about a C+ and rising star.

Secondly, beware of incredibly vague descriptions such as “Netflix Insider.” According to google, Netflix employs 12,800 people. I don’t know if this counts people they contract out to, such as people who do closed captioning or ratings wrangling, but this could range from the CEO to sanitation staff, to make up artists and PAs on sets of their movies/series.  

Or could it be an independent contractor that works for Netflix, so not technically a Netflix employee.

Or it could be some guy who has a Netflix account.

We don’t know what job this person has or from whom they heard this gossip from. Hell, it could be some rando who wandered “inside” of Netflix HQ. WHO KNOWS?!

If there is no legally regulated definition of something, then anyone can slap that label on anything and be done.

They keep it intentionally vague to bypass anyone claiming they actually said anything.

If some dumbass uses the article as a reference in a defamation suit or say to harass someone on Twitter, then the writers can say “well, we technically didn’t say that or mean it in such a way, so don’t get us involved or blame us in any way.”

Thirdly, if there is CYA (Cover Your Ass) language, just assume they’re pulling everything out of their ass. If the “insider” wasn’t vague enough, then they simply tell you “this hasn’t been confirmed by…” and they generally put this at the end, where they assume after you read the juicy stuff, you’ve stopped reading. Or they’re counting on you not caring because you just want something that confirms your bias.

Either way, they muddied the waters of whether or not they are for sure standing behind anything they wrote. They’re basically saying “We’re claiming this sensationalist drivel…but don’t quote us on it.”

Remember, any asshole can create a website and sell ad space to create a gossip site. Literally. Just because it's online, doesn’t make it actual news.

Like with the accusers, these rag sites are normally not worth going after even if they post the biggest lies because 1) they don’t make any actual money to cover attorney fees much less punitive damages. 2) No serious or reasonable person takes them seriously, only gullible dumbasses.

So @heyharoldsboo is correct. Do not click on these pages, don’t give them money, or encourage them to write more with your internet traffic.

re: your ongoing struggle of people mistaking your oc aran for other guys - i actually *did* post fanart of tanaka from hq before and he also got tagged as ronan lynch. one time, mild thing compared to your experience but seems like people really can not tell guys with a buzzcut apart, no matter how much context you give them (or even write it out in the tags)

Hahahah yes the struggle is real! And it’s really just the hair and personal bias. Like people see what they want to see.

I have the same with Tao. Just because of his long hair he gets called Asahi from haikyuu or Eren from aot or any other random dude who just hs longer hair, even though they have nothing else in common!

It’s annoying!

And I know I’m being extra petty! But personal characters just mean so much and as much as I love that people can relate to them to or even see something familiar in them that makes them love them, it’s kinda odd to get all those comparisons when there is nothing else but a similar haircut.

And it’s especially annoying when those false hashtags under my art spread and then I get hate comments because I apparently drew some random anime guy totally wrong… when it’s just my oc! And yes this has happened before. So I try as soon as I see that someone tags Aran or Tao under another character to set it straight so it doesn’t spread.

As I've said a lot, NA doesn't care for Rolly, and post Popcorn Bomb their resentment became stronger and stronger until it ultimately boiled over by the time the Director was captured. I won't write out what they said in particular (mostly because I haven't reached Operation: Blackout in my longfic revolving around both Rolly and NA, and also because i don't have anything specific in mind quite yet) but from what I imagine...it wasn't a matter of "oh, i can't save you right now it's too risky" but more of a "I don't think you're worth saving." type deal. They didn't want to be even be civil and pretend they cared to spare his feelings in his lowest moment. They wanted to twist the knife, so to speak.

They can be a bit of a hypocrite....because Rolly wasn't the only agent endangering themself to save the others during Blackout. Gambit, had no plan and attempted to rush in and save Gary the same day Herbert made his presence known, narrowly managing to escape thanks to Paige. However, they excused that to themself as an "act of weakness from an otherwise capable agent". When Rookie got captured attempting to get Herbert to stand down, that was simply Rookie being noble. But Rolly? Attempting to save the penguins he sees as a second family (and y'know, his two partners) from a horrible fate when the Director isn't even around to keep everyone together anymore...? Obviously if he was about to get frozen, he was just getting what he deserved. ...Sure NA, whatever helps you ignore your bias when you sleep at night!

...Of course, what they didn't expect was for Rolly to be severely injured rather than just being frozen, and it being broadcasted on TV because Herbert wanted to celebrate the occasion...and well, even if they hated the guy, that was going too far...sure, they never liked him much. But at the very least, what was his family thinking seeing that on TV? And didn't he mention his aunts had a young kid, who'd now have to see their cousin trapped forever...?

Their grudge didn't feel as important anymore after that...especially when they got a scathing call from Gambit, who asked them a single question: "If I wasn't your idea of a perfect agent, and I called you for help when I was about to get captured, would you tell me I wasn't even worth being spat at in my direction too?" ...NA knows the answer, and now they really didn't like it. The guilt was starting to become unbearable.

Rolly's capture caused a domino effect. While I won't say NA would've been able to save Rolly right away had they set aside their grudge, the fact that they were callous to him in their last exchange spread, and well...a lot of agents weren't too keen on following the last remaining ace's orders anymore. After all, if they screwed up, past or present who's to say they won't be thrown to the wolves too? A few agents ignored their orders to shelter in place while they thought of a plan and tried to storm Herbert's Paradise, and none of them came back. Which led to more agents turning on them, and even on each other due to the chaos. Wracked with guilt, NA set out to fix things themself. Maybe if they had at least been cordial towards Rolly, things could've been different. And so, under the cover of night, they set out on the 26th to attempt to stop the blackout.

...Until Herbert caught and froze them on the 27th, anyhow. Although they didn't have their freezing televised, Herbert did plan to publish a news issue exposing their information, not unlike how he did with Jet Pack Guy and Dot. He would've, had Muffin not saved the day.

Since Rolly was frozen in the final freezer pod in Herbert HQ (aka the room where all the frozen leads were), and since while he hated them, he didn't hate them nearly as much as Rolly, they were kept seperately from the others when they were frozen. But what happened to them after they were frozen is a mystery to everyone, even Herbert...some speculate that they might've gone under a self imposed exile, too ashamed to show their face after what happened, though.

Suna: “Rinnnn! Pay attention to me!” You whined, flopping in his lap. He spared you a glance before looking back at the T.V. You sighed, not happy with him ignoring you. “Rinnn, you see them all the time, just give me a little attention.” He continued to bash the buttons on the controller, quietly mumbling into the mic. You curled around him, hoping he would eventually give in. When he didn’t you did the only thing you could think of, annoy him.

Pop! Chew really loud, and Pop! You repeated the actions with your gum, hoping to annoy him enough to give you attention.

“Shit!” You heard him groan and turned over your shoulder to see what was going on. He was losing his focus, and was getting hit by the other team. You watched him die. He pulled his mic away and looked down at you, “Stop it.”

“Stop what?”

“You know what.” He said pinching your side, you curled further into him. He went to turn back to the game, and you popped your gum. Just one more time. “Hang on a second guys.” He dropped the controller, and gripped your cheeks making your lips form into a pout. With his other hand he reached in and grabbed the gum.

“Rinn, come on.” You watched as he put the piece in his mouth.

“No. Now behave while I finish up this level, and then you get all the attention you want.” You groaned that you have to sit through him playing.

“Fine. But I get extra cuddles because you stole my gum.”

Matsukawa: You were rocking back and forth on your feet blowing bubbles as you waited for the door to open. You were coming over to spend time with your boyfriend Matsukawa Issei, but he had to watch his siblings. It was no problem, you liked spending time with all of the Matsukawa children, you just had a preference for your boyfriend. After what felt like forever, the door finally opened to reveal your boyfriend. His hair was a mess and he had some food slopped on his shirt.

“Hey Baby.” He greeted placing a quick kiss on your forehead.

“Hi Love, how are you holding up so far?” You asked, gesturing to his appearance. He sighed and ran his hand through his already messy hair.

“It’s been busy, they’ve been so excited to see you. It’s been chaotic.” You smiled, blowing another bubble.

“I’m sorry. But I’m just as excited.”

“Was that gum?” He asked. You just nodded. “Spit it out.” He was pointing to the grass behind you.

“What?! No!” You crossed your arms, “Why?”

“Because they’re going to want some. Spit it out.”

“I can tell them no, unlike someone…” You muttered the last part under your breath. You watched his eyes steel, and it would be intimidating, but you knew him.

“Spit. It. Out.” He gritted out crossing his arms.

“No.” You said, raising your eyebrow. You two stood there at a stalemate for a few moments. Suddenly he moved, and lunged for you. You turned around so he wrapped his arms around you from behind. You laughed as you twisted and wiggled trying to get out of his grasp. He moved a hand up and tried to reach into your mouth to grab it. You continued twisting and turning before he finally grasped your jaw. “‘Sei..” You whined looking up at him. He smirked before leaning down. He pressed a hard kiss on your lips, knocking the breath out of you. When he pulled away you chased his lips as you fluttered open your eyes. He grinned at you showing the piece of gum sitting between his teeth, before spitting it out to the side into the grass.

“Baby…” He trailed off leaning back in. You brought your hands up and threaded one through his hair while the other was fisting his shirt.

“Ewwww!!” You pulled away, glancing at the door to find his siblings standing there. “That’s gross!” You laughed, pressing a quick kiss to his cheek.

“Well, you better be ready because I’m coming for you next.” You said reaching out and chasing after the two little gremlins. Issei watched with a smile on his face before chasing after you three.

Hanamaki: “Hiro!” You called down the sidewalk. When he looked up from his phone you broke into a full blown sprint. You watched the panic spread on his face as he fumbled with his phone, trying to put it in his pocket. He put it away just in time for you to launch yourself at him. He caught you and stumbled back a little but twirled you still the same. “You caught me!”

“Why do you sound surprised?” He asked resting his forehead against yours. “I’ll always catch you baby.” He pressed a light kiss on your nose.

“You’re such a sap Hiro.” You laughed out, wrapping your arms around him tighter. “So what’s the plan for today?”

“Well I found this hole in the wall cat cafe, that just made me think of you. Then we could go to that hill we like and look at the stars.”

“Cats and stargazing?! Hiro, you do love me!” You cheered. He laughed knowing you were only joking.

“Not with that attitude.” You scoffed, placing your hand over your heart feigning hurt. “‘M sorry. Let me kiss you better, yeah?” He asked, leaning in. You laughed and met him halfway. Once you were done, you grabbed his hand and let him lead you to the cafe.

“Hey, can you wait a minute? I’ve got to tie my shoe.” He paused, and laughed as your purse kept falling down and in the way.

“Let me hold that for you.” He held his hand out waiting for you to give it up. As he waited he rummaged around in your purse. “Hah!” He cheered triumphantly. You finished tying your shoes and looked up just in time to see him put something in his mouth.

“What did you just take?”

“Nothing.” He said trying to look innocent.

“Hiro, you stole my gum!” You pouted.

“Do you want it?” He asked, reaching his hand out pulling you up.

“I’m good babe.” You grimaced.

Ukai: When you woke up, you instinctively reached over to the other side of the bed. It was already cold, not that you should be surprised. Keishin gets up early, long before the sun dares to peak above the horizon, and goes to bed far after the moon begins to shine down. You sighed and pulled yourself out of bed, slowly getting ready for the day. You wandered around the house cleaning things up and packing a bento for Keishin. By the time you were done, it was right before his lunch break. You packed everything up and headed over to shop. Before you went in, you peeked into the window, to see if he was busy, but found him sitting behind the counter reading Shonen Jump. You shook your head and walked in.

“Welcome to Sakanoshita….” He trailed off the automatic greeting when he looked up, “Hey Babe!”

“Hi Sweetie, how’s your day been?” You asked rounding the corner and running your hand across his shoulders. He sighed and sagged against you. You set the food down on the counter and ran your hands down his chest.

“Busy. A little long, but better now that you’re here.” He smiled up at you. You leaned down and pressed a kiss to his nose, pulling away smiling.

“Well, it’s about to get a little bit better. I brought lunch!” You cheered. He was about to say something, but you cut him off. You gently unpacked the lunch and pushed it towards him. He smiled at you gratefully and began eating. As you two ate, he listened to you talk about your day. Once you were finished, you packed the empty dishes away, and turned to him. He looked deep in thought, somewhere not in the present. You watched him for a minute before resting your cold hand on the back of his neck. He flinched and turned to you, eyes a little glassy. “Honey, what’s going through that faux blonde head of yours?” You removed his headband and ran your fingers through his hair. He didn’t speak right away, instead waiting patiently

“I-I’m sorry. I’m sorry that I’m so busy you have to come down here to spend a little time with me. I’m sorry I’m gone before the sun goes up, and back after you go to bed. I’m trying so hard. To be better. For you. I-” You cut him off pressing a soft kiss to his lips, and wiping his tears.

“Honey, please. You don’t have to be better. I didn’t get with you because you could be better, I’m with you because of who you are right now. And honestly, it doesn’t bother me. I love eating lunch with you. I can and will wait forever for you. I promise.” You whispered kissing him again. You pulled away hovering just out of reach of his mouth. “I love you, but honey, you taste like lunch. Ew!” You squealed when he pinched your side. He laughed and kept running his hand up and down your side. You wiggled and laughed trying to pull away.

“Uh-uh. You don’t get to leave until I get my due kisses.” You sighed and dug in your purse, until you found what you were looking for.

“Here. Have some gum, then you’ll get all the kisses you want.” He reluctantly pulled it from your hand and unwrapped it. He held it up to your lips and waited until you parted them. He set it in there and let half of it hang out.

“Let’s half it.” He murmured leaning in. You met him halfway and let him bite his half of the gum before allowing the kiss to overtake you.

Akiteru: You sat down on the bench outside of the classroom, waiting for your boyfriend. His class was going to be over in a few minutes, so you pulled out your phone. You were smiling down at it, not noticing the figure standing above you.

“What’re you smiling at?” Your head snapped up at the sound of your boyfriend’s voice.

“You.” You said showing him your phone. There on your phone screen, was a picture of him during his latest volleyball game. “Isn’t this a great picture? You look so hot!” You gushed watching the blush creep up his neck before setting on his face and ears.

“Gah! Why are you like this?” He asked, covering his face with his hand. He peeked out between his fingers.

“Why? Because Akiteru, you’re just too cute.” You gushed, pinching his cheek.

“Ugh, fine. Are you ready? Kei’s got a game today.” He pulled you into him.

“I’m excited. It’ll be my first time seeing him play, if he’s anything like you, this is going to be fantastic!” You two walked off, and you gripped his hand tightly. He was talking about his brother, when he noticed you trailing a little behind him. He turned over his shoulder and watched you struggle to unwrap a piece of gum. He sighed and grabbed it out of your hand.

“Here. Since you're struggling.” He quickly unwrapped it and held it out for you to see. “See? It’s not that difficult.”

“Thank you.” You said reaching out for the piece with a smile. He gave you a sweet smile back, and just when the gum was almost in your reach, he yanked his hand back and pushed the piece into his mouth. “AKITERU! That was my last piece! If you wanted it we could have shared. Whatever.” You mumbled walking ahead of him.

“Baby!!” He stood there calling after you. You gave no acknowledgement of him, and he chased after you. “Baby! I’m sorry.” He said standing in front of you. You smiled up at him and patted his cheek.

“I forgive you baby. Now let’s go watch your brother!”

Futakuchi: He watched you climb up the bleachers trying to pinpoint the best place to sit. When you found one that you deemed good enough, you sat down pulling out your sketchbook. Always tried to do speed sketching to work on your skills. Watching your boyfriend play volleyball is an especially good way to do this. The team is always moving and changing expressions. Despite this, you decided to focus on your boyfriend, Futakuchi Kenji. Every time he scored in their practise game, he would turn to you with a smile. That smile was one of the things you decided to draw today. He made it pretty easy, with how often he looked at you. By the time practise was done, you had maybe five or six sketches of his smile.

“Whatcha got there babe?” He asked, looking over your book. You turned it around showing it to him.

“You tell me Kenji.” He furrowed his brows and looked over all of your sketches. You smiled when his lips pulled into an adorable pout.

“Well, it’s a smile.”

“But whose?” He paused thinking it over. He went over all his teammates trying to place the smile. “You don’t know do you?” He shook his head. “It’s yours silly. It’s a sad day when you can’t recognise your own smile.”

“Nuh uh. My smile doesn’t look that good.” You laughed and he smiled at the sound.

“You don’t give yourself enough credit. I can’t do your smile enough justice. So, what are we doing now?” You asked, putting your book away and standing up. Your fingers grazed the pack of cinnamon gum you kept, and you pulled it out. You took a piece. When you finally got a good look at him, his cheeks had a dusting of pink. “Aw, are you blushing?” Kenji, immediately snatched the gum out of your hand and shoved it in his mouth.

“NO. The gum is just a little spicy. That’s all.”

“But you were blushing before you had the gum?” You questioned tilting your head to the side. Kenji thought you looked even cuter and the blush got darker on his face.

“You’re imagining things. Let’s get going. We’re getting dinner.” He grumbled walking ahead of you. You smiled to yourself and jogged to catch up.

once she saw you, a wave of pure relief hit durandal. it had been so long since she last saw you since you left to the far east. but now you were right in front of her. alive.

for the first time in a great while, durandal felt nervous. she never got nervous anymore. even on the most dangerous of missions she was calm with her allies. but this time, her inner anxieties was sensed by all the other valkyries that day.

rita had offered to brew the s-rank valkyrie some chamomile tea to soothe her worries that morning. yet, to her disappointment, it was turned down by durandal as she said that it was fine. even when the two were dispatched to the meeting area, rita felt durandal's nervousness seem to heighten the further they went. it worried her to a great amount at the thought of it.

durandal's thoughts were going a mile a minute as she continued to walk to the meeting area. it was just a bit away by now, soon she'd be able to see you again. after such a long time since you were dispatched to the far east branch would she able to visit you once again.

seldom contact was kept between the both of you as durandal had gotten busy she wasn't able to reply. in fact, the last time durandal remembers contacting on you on her own was most likely months ago. time flew by for her but she wasn't exactly happy that it kept her from talking to you.

"master durandal" rita spoke up, "it seems we have arrived at the meeting area. the far east valkyries and workers are waiting for us ahead."

durandal nodded and unknowingly sped up her pace as she walked ahead of rita.

the s-rank valkyrie's movements suddenly stopped as you came into view along with everyone else.

once she saw you, a wave of pure relief hit durandal. it had been so long since she last saw you since you left to the far east. but now you were right in front of her. alive.

"bia- durandal!" you smiled.

you ran to durandal and hugged her tightly. your smile was bright as she returned your hug with as much enthusiasm as you had. it had been so long since she felt your sweet embrace and now that she could feel it, it felt like time had caught up to her.

much to her disappointment, you let go of durandal as rita approached and bowed to you and the rest of your comrades. "it has been quite some time since we have met, master y/n. i am glad you and the rest of your squad has been doing well in the far east branch."

"it's nice to see you too, rita!" you bowed back to your fellow valkyrie, "we've been doing well on our missions at the far east branch. but leaving back to hq in a few days is a little different for all of us. it has been a few years since we've been there after all."

your squad leader approached the group, initiating a friendly conversation with rita that durandal wasn't paying attention to.

"it has also been a while since i've seen you, durandal," you spoke quietly to durandal.

to respect your lover's own feelings, you never used her real name around other squadmates, instead just using durandal. though she had said that it was fine to use it private areas. even now durandal had realized she missed you saying her real name while laying with her late at night. hopefully now you would catch up on cuddling with durandal.

"that is true, but now we can spend more time together while getting back to the hq again," durandal nodded to you.

"we better! it's been so long since we've spoken and even longer since we've seen each other face to face. can't we spend the next few days together?"

"of course we can."

durandal smiled as you hugged her once again, just as your squad leader went to speak to her. even as you all departed from the meeting area you walked beside durandal. the comfortable silence that wrapped around both of you was something durandal realized she missed as well.

rita smiled as she watched durandal and you walk side by side. she sensed durndal's anxieties ease the second she told durandal they arrived at the meeting area. especially now, she could see the smile on durandal's face.

Companions React: Finding An Abandoned Child

Request: Hi, I really love your writing! Could you maybe do companions react to finding a crying child hiding in like a car or an abandoned building?

TW: Child abandonment, trauma, PTSD in some characters, themes of child neglect and abuse

The Scenario: Sole and their companion are travelling through the wasteland, looking to collect scrap for the latest project. They were on high alert, of course, considering it was the wasteland, guns drawn by their hips as they crept forward into another abandoned building. It seemed to be relatively untouched, which was promising. That is, until the companion rounded a corner to head into one of the nearby doorways, and was met with the sight of a small child silently weeping in the corner. Alone.

Cait:

The image of that child alone, covered in grime, their face coated in tears, is forever seared into her mind from that moment on

She wasn’t allowed to cry much as a child, it was considered whining, but if there was one scene that could represent how she felt her entire childhood, it was that

She was rushing forward before she could even think about it, almost failing to consider how frightening that may be to the child

Luckily, she remembered shortly after her impulsive actions, and slowed down, kneeling a few feet away

“Do you need help?”

As soon as she can coax the child into trusting her and letting her pick them up to get them out of there safely, she struggles to let go

Even when Sole’s trying to check the child for injuries, she has to fight herself internally to let go of them

After a long talk with Sole, that child becomes priority in her life; sometimes the people who’ll mean the most to you find you in confusing ways

Curie:

She doesn’t think much about the possibility of accidentally frightening the child

She’s already in front of them and checking them over to make sure they don’t have any life threatening wounds

If she accidentally scares the crap out of the kid, she realizes her mistake and backtracks

Kind of forgets that Sole exists at that point until it’s time to carefully pick the child up and get them out of the building; they’re the designated body guard

Once they’re back at Sanctuary she confers with Sole on how to make the child most comfortable

They discuss whether or not it would be better for the kid to stay with them, or in Sanctuary in general, or to look for suitable adopters; their decision relies on where Curie’s at in figuring out herself and where Sole’s at in the main story (if Sole is canon-compliant)

Danse:

There’s supposed to be a protocol for similar situations according to the Brotherhood

He has a moment of weakness, seeing a child so helpless like that

He gets hit with anger, surprisingly; he tries his best to remain detached, and he’d like to think he’s pretty damn good at it, but the idea that someone could abandon their child like that?

He suppresses it long enough to have Sole carefully approach and check the kid over (he knows his armor isn’t exactly the most relaxing sight)

He’s somewhat silent on the way back to the Prydwen

Handing them over to the medical staff is difficult for him and he needs to take a moment, but at the same time struggles to leave the child

He asks Sole to stay with them so they have a somewhat familiar face and steps outside for a moment

Pulls some strings to get them adopted onto the Prydwen: he tries to keep a semi-detached relationship moving forward but definitely has some bias towards the child as they grow up in the Brotherhood and checks in on them

Deacon:

Unfortunately, it’s not the first time this has happened; he’s travelled for most of his life, and hiding out in abandoned locations was part of that

Child abandonment is more common than other people would like to believe, so he’s gotten used to sorting things out, and honestly, it’s not all that different from his work in the Railroad

Regardless, he’s had practice

He approaches slowly and quietly, but talks so that the kid is aware of where he is

He walks them through what he’s doing as he checks for any obvious injuries, asks a few questions if they’re verbal and not completely dissociated, and wipes their tears

Asks Sole for any sort of blanket or spare shirt they may have and wraps the child in it for comfort before asking to pick them up

Any conversation about the kid is done out of earshot- it’s not exactly comforting to hear strangers discuss how messed up you and your situation is

Instead he has Sole stay alert as he mindlessly tells lighthearted stories for the child to listen to if they can hear

Once they get back to Railroad HQ he stays nearby, tells jokes, can provide signing if they’re deaf, makes sure they give consent to every part of being treated, gets them some food, etc

Needs a moment once he’s told that they’ve found somewhere for the kid to go

One of the rare times he gives Sole a hug without prompting

Gage:

Has no clue what to do or what’s going on

Makes Sole approach the kid; “What if it’s a tiny feral ghoul?” “Gage, you’re an idiot”

Keeps his distance for the most part unless Sole asks him for help

He will pass the child some food or water, silently, in order to try and bond or something

Very much uninvolved in the process as long as Sole has things covered, but he does get extremely vocal in the fact that the child needs to go to a good home

Haylen:

Uncertain in how to approach, but once Sole tells her what they plan to do, she’s willing to help

Asks a few questions about why they’re there and what happened to them, but if she’s not getting answers, she knows to back off and focus on what might be going on physically

Once they’re both sure the child has no injuries and can be moved, Haylen uses cloth they collected to fashion a sort of back-carrier; the most practical thing is for both of Sole’s arms to be free for protection

Has a long chat with Sole about what to do once they get back to the Prydwen and briefs the medical staff, but after that, she lets Sole take over

She knows that spending more time with the child means she’ll get attached and that’s the worst thing she could do to either of them

Will ask about what type of home/community the child went to after they’re gone and feel reassured once Sole explains

Sometimes she randomly thinks of them and reserves a moment to send them her best wishes, but other than that, tries not to care

Hancock:

His heart absolutely shatters, but he knows that approaching may make things worse; after all, they’ve probably run into feral ghouls depending on how long they’ve been on their own, and his appearance won’t help their distress

Instead, he sends Sole forward to check up on them and build some repertoire

Sole has to have a small chat with them about how they know that there’s bad ghouls, but there’s also very nice ghouls, and that Hancock is the nicest ghoul they’ll meet

If the kid freaks out once they spot him he feels sick to his stomach, but if they don’t, he’s relieved

Has Sole carry them just in case the child changes their mind and freaks out after calming down, but will talk to them

Doesn’t really want to bring them back to Goodneighbor, but if that’s the closer option, that’s where they go instead of Sanctuary

Either way, he finds himself extremely attached already, and once the child receives medical attention, he’s bending over backwards to get them whatever they want food, drink, and comfort wise

Once the kid falls asleep, he sits Sole down to talk; (if they’re close) do they think they could co-parent?

Really doesn’t want to let the child go to another home; he’s seen the shittiest of shitty of the wasteland, and doesn’t trust anyone else to raise the child right, but at the same time, he doesn’t think he’d be a good parent

If Sole reassures him and is willing to take on the job, the pair adopt the child. If not, they bring the child home to Sanctuary and discuss with different settlers there whether or not they’d be willing to take on a child

The Longs get first offer

MacCready:

While emotionally he’s destroyed by the sight, he knows how to deal with the situation

He’s a natural with children after Duncan, and so it’s easy for him to approach calmly with plenty of warning and go through the process of making sure the child isn’t fatally wounded before getting permission to move them

Asks some basic questions, if the child isn’t mute, and tells some stories about Dogmeat and the silly things he does

(If Duncan isn’t healthy and he and Sole are just friends) Mac knows that having to part with the child is going to break his heart the moment he sees them, but he can’t take on another kid with the way his life is; it wouldn’t be fair to anyone involved

(If Duncan is healthy, has been moved to Sanctuary, and he and Sole are either best friends or partners and co-parenting) He waits until they’ve gotten the kid settled and talks to Sole about whether or not they have the mental, physical, literal, etc resources to take on another child

If they agree he’s ecstatic, considering the child won’t have to go to another set of strangers before finding somewhere safe

Brings Duncan in on the conversation and explains what’s going on and asks his opinion

Nick:

Like Hancock, despite the fact that he’d like to help right away, he knows that his appearance can be frightening to those who aren’t used to it

Instead, he tells Sole to go first and approaches afterwards

Whether he’s consciously aware of it or not, he tries to keep his face out of the child’s line of sight to avoid frightening them

Once they’re on the move he’s already gotten in a debate with himself on whether or not he’s willing to put on his Detective hat and look for the child’s parents

Of course, it could be a misunderstanding, and they could’ve gotten split up during an attack or something

But at the same time there’s a visceral anger in him that someone would let their child end up like this; it’s not rational, he knows, especially since it could be an accident, but he can’t really help it

He knows where he could place the child already if Sole and he aren’t in a place to handle the responsibility (and it takes a long while into their friendship/relationship for him to even think about co parenting) due to the many families he’s met during his work

Piper:

She thinks with her heart and not her head, so she’s already scooping up the child before it even registers in her that that may be a bad idea

Panicked, trying to soothe the kid as she’s shooting Sole a frantic expression of what the hell

Has no idea what to do, really, and looks to Sole to help her out

Once they’re on their way to somewhere safe she discusses the fact that (unless she and Sole have moved to Sanctuary and are past the main questline) they probably can’t take on a child

They’re consistently travelling due to her work, Sole’s fighting their battles, etc

If they’ve settled, they already have both Shaun and Nat to worry about, so she’s not quite sure how another child will work in their lives

But if they do decide to take on the responsibility, the decision is made when she goes to get food for the child back in Sanctuary and finds them fast asleep against Sole’s chest

Something about that image seals the deal for her and she knows she and Sole need to have a long talk

Preston:

Unfortunately, like Deacon, this isn’t quite an uncommon sight for him

He approaches and talks his way into trust with practiced ease that’s quite telling of how things go in the wasteland

He’s picked them up and is already on his way out by the time Sole registers what they may want to do about the situation

It’s not really a question to him that the child’s coming back to Sanctuary; he knows that someone will take them in, even if he specifically can’t

He’s had enough field training (and practice) that he knows how to check for injuries and treat some basic ones, so that’s done swiftly and as painlessly as possible

X6-88(Institute):

Doesn’t really see the point in getting involved, but if Sole wants to do something about it, then he doesn’t protest; after all, he’s there to protect them, no matter what antics they get up to, no matter how unadvisable

He keeps his distance and pays no mind to what they’re doing with the child, he’s simply there to keep guard

Wants no part in the matter

X6-88(Post-Institute):

Really isn’t sure what to do at all

He lets Sole approach first and takes cues from them; their cautious body language, quiet voice, etc

Pretty much just follows their lead the entire time due to his uncertainty of the situation, but he adapts eventually

Offers them water pretty much right away because he knows how threatening dehydration can be especially since they’ve been crying

No matter how much he may want it, he doesn’t bring up the idea of him and Sole co-parenting first; they would have to say something first for him to discuss the idea

He is one of the most protective when it comes to finding a family for the child, if that’s what he and Sole decide to do, though

➼ author’s note! hi! this is my first time posting on tumblr and first time writing for hq so i hope this goes okay. i apologize beforehand if there are any mistakes or the characters are ooc, i'm trying to get the hang of them. anyways, this is a halloween inspired fic and i'm hoping to post some about some of the other schools as well! i'll probably link them at the end of this post if i can! anyways, happy halloween, stay safe, and enjoy this little treat! <3

It was very rare that the Volleyball Club had a day off, and it was even rarer when one of those days were dedicated to a team bonding activity. But it had been a rather long time since you guys had last had one, so with a little planning from you, Kiyoko, and Yachi, it was decided that the VBC would spend a few hours together, and instead of tossing a ball back and forth, it'd be spent carving pumpkins. That's how you found yourself where you are now, sitting on a tarp in one of the school's empty soccer fields, Ennoshita to the right of you and Tanaka to the left of you, Noya besides him, Narita across from you, and Kinoshita besides him. The third and first years were in similar circles on their own tarps a few feet away from you guys.

"Noya-San, what are you carving?" Hinata called from where he sat beside Kageyama, eyes only for the hyperactive second year. Noya shrugged nonchalantly, a cocky smirk turning up the corners of his lips as he cradled his pumpkin to his chest.

"It's a surprise, obviously!"

"Oh!" Hinata's eyes lit up at the prospect and, he too, pulled his own pumpkin tight against his chest as to shield it from anyone's searching eyes, "Mine will be one too, then!"

"Idiot!" Kageyama called from his spot beside Hinata, narrowing his eyes at the boy, "You're probably carving a volleyball!"

Hinata's cheeks grew red at Kageyama's words but that didn't stop the shorter boy from scowling at him, "Am not!"

The two began to bicker back and forth and you turned your attention away from them with a smile, averting your attention back to your own pumpkin that rested in your lap.

"He was so going to carve a volleyball" Ennoshita leaned in to whisper to you. You turned to him, laughing with a nod, and Ennoshita couldn't help but join in.

"What about you, Ennoshita?" You asked, leaning closer to peer at his pumpkin. While he hadn't got to actually carving the pumpkin yet, he had sketched a face onto the surface of it. A smile broke out on your face at the cute design, and you looked up to meet his eyes, "It's cute, Chika-Chan!"

Ennoshita felt his cheeks warm up at the sight of your bright smile, but he brushed it off with a laugh, leaning into you to peer over your shoulder. You moved quickly, though, jerking your pumpkin out of his sight before he could take a glance at it. Ennoshita's eyebrows shot up at your sudden movements, "What? I can't see your pumpkin?"

You shook your head, clutching it tighter to you when he tried to take another glance, "No! You have to wait until it's done!"

"Fine" The boy sighed, rolling his eyes at you as he leaned back, picking up a carving knife as he got to work on carving out the face of his pumpkin. You watched him for a moment longer, before glancing back at your own pumpkin. You picked up a marker, popping off the cap before bringing it up to your pumpkin. Unbeknownst to you, Ennoshita glanced at you from the corner of his eyes, smiling to himself when he saw the concentrated look on your face. Your eyebrows were knitted together in concentration, and the tip of your tongue was poking out between your lips. The boy felt a nudge against his shoulder, and he glanced at Kinoshita who was sitting beside him. His fellow second-year winked at him with a knowing smile. Ennoshita rolled his eyes, but he couldn't stop the blush from blossoming on his cheeks. Kinoshita let it go, turning back to his pumpkin with a smug smile. The next few moments were relatively calm. The low chatter coming from the others and your quiet hum that only the second years surrounding you could hear. The boys finished far before you, and the only time you looked up from your pumpkin was so you could look at their finished products. You complimented each and every one, and they all accepted your praise with a proud smile. They, in return, waited rather impatiently for you to finish your own carving.

"Done!" You called out finally, a bright smile on your face as you turned around your pumpkin to show the waiting second years.

"Wow!" Narita spoke first, eyes twinkling as he looked at your pumpkin, "It's really good!"

"Thanks!" You beamed as the others nodded along to their friend's words.

"Yeah, it looks gr—" Noya was cut short as Hinata and Kageyama's bickering grew louder and louder. Your eyes were instantly drawn to where all the first years sat, raising an eyebrow as you wondered just what they were fighting about now. The two continued to argue back and forth, and Tsukki regarded them with a bored stare as Yamaguchi stifled his laughs behind his hand. Yachi could only stare at the two hopelessly. You couldn't quite make out their words, but you figured Kageyama said something that really ticked off Hinata, if the orange-haired boy's next action was any indication.

It was as if time slowed down as Hinata reached down, scooping up some of the pumpkin guts that he had tossed into a bowl earlier. He pulled his hand back, and before you could even try and tell him not to, he flung his hand forward, the mess of orange pulp and pumpkin seeds flying through the air, heading straight for Kageyama. The setter had the foresight to duck down, however. You let out a breath of relief, tense shoulders dropping forward. However, that relief was short-lived when you realized just where the glop of pumpkin guts was heading now.

Daichi's laugh was cut short as the glob of pumpkin insides landed right on his head. He blinked once, twice, three times. Everyone seemingly held their breath, eyes wide as they stared at their captain. Daichi opened his mouth to say something, but promptly shut it when he felt the glop slowly began to droop down his head, inching lower and lower until it finally slipped off his head and landed in his lap with a quiet splat.

You could practically see the anger grow in Daichi's eyes and you made a mental promise to Hinata that you'd stop Noya from photoshopping him into some of those fake clouds because you were sure if Daichi didn't kill the boy himself, Hinata would die of utter fear and embarrassment. May he rest in peace.

When Daichi opened his mouth once more, you had half the mind to shut your eyes and cower away, not really wanting to see the captain's angry outburst, but before he could even utter a word, a boisterous and hysterical laugh broke through the tense atmosphere. Everyone's eyes were drawn to the source of the sound, and when you peered over Ennoshita's shoulder, your eyes landed on Suga. He was clutching his stomach, head thrown back as he laughed and laughed and laughed. You couldn't help but feel your lips twitch up at the sight, and Daichi turned to his best friend with narrowed eyes. He reached out, scooping up the pumpkin pulp that sat in his lap before launching it at the grey-haired boy. Suga's laugh was effectively cut short as the pumpkin guts hit him right in the nose. His mouth dropped open in shock before, he too, flung it right back at Daichi. Some of it hit the captain's shoulder, but the majority of it splattered against Asahi's chest. That was when all hell broke loose.

"Pumpkin guts war!" Noya rose to his feet, pumping his fist into the air before throwing the goop that he held in his other hand straight at Tanaka. The short-haired male gasped, narrowing his eyes at his chaotic counterpart before throwing an even bigger glob at Noya. Noya's eyes hardened before he grabbed his bowl full of pumpkin insides, throwing its contents in Tanaka's direction. The boy ducked, however, and instead, both you and Ennoshita were hit. Tanaka and Kinoshita promptly burst into a fit of laughs, clutching their stomachs as you and Ennoshita shared a look, a mental conversation being spoken between the two of you. You both then averted your attention back to Noya, who's own laughter stopped instantly.

Noya's eyes widened under the heat of both your's and Ennoshita's angry glares. He held his hands up in surrender as he scrambled back, "Uh, wait guys! I'm sorry, I didn't m—"

The boy was cut short as you dove at him, tackling him to the ground, "Now, Chika!"

Ennoshita picked up his own bowl of pumpkin guts before jogging over to where Noya was struggling from under you, smiling devilishly before spilling its contents all over Noya. You giggled, taking Ennoshita's hand as he held it out to you. He hoisted you back up to your feet, and the two of you dashed away from the angry libero who chased after the two of you. The war between the three of you raged on for a few minutes, with Tanka and Kinoshita joining in as well until the boys were eventually drawn into a fight against the first years. You took the moment to catch your breath, laughing to yourself as Hinata was struck right in the face by Tanaka. From the corner of your eye, you noticed someone standing a few feet away from you, and they were far too clean for your liking.

"Oi, Narita!" You called out sweetly, and the boy visibly blanched, tensing up at the sound of your voice. You giggled, before lurching forward, wrapping your arms around him from behind.

"You're the worst" He groaned, accepting defeat as he stood still in your hold. He didn't have to see his back to know that he now had pumpkin all over him.

You laughed, hugging him tighter, "You love me!"

"Mhm," The boy hummed playfully, breaking out of your hold before turning around to face you. He smiled cheekily before reaching out, patting your head sweetly. However, you should have known that the gesture was anything but sweet. Your eyes widened and mouth fell agape as he broke out into laughter. The pumpkin guts that he had plopped onto the top of your head slowly began to slide down, before it eventually fell into a heap at your guys' feet. The two of you both glanced down at it before meeting one another's eyes, promptly bursting out into laughter.

"Ay!" Tanaka shouted, pointing at the two of you with a hard stare, "Get your asses over here and help us beat these losers!"

You and Narita shared a look before jogging over to the boy. The 'war' continued on for a few more minutes, the third years eventually ambushing all of you as Kiyoko stood a few feet away, not a single seed on her, as she watched with an amused smile as pumpkin flew back and forth, accompanied by joyous laughter.

"Well" A voice drawled cynically, and all movement stopped as everyone's eyes were drawn to the sound. There stood Tsukki, a sour look on his face as he scowled at all of you, arms crossed over his chest, "While I'm sure you guys had fun making complete fools of yourselves, I doubt you're going to have much fun cleaning up the mess."

His smug face soon had the entire group of you scowling at the boy, and without a second thought, you all turned your bodies to fully face the boy. The smirk was soon wiped from his face as he took notice of the mischievous looks in your guys' eyes, and he took a defensive step back, "What are you guys doing? I swear—"

"Now!" Noya shouted, cutting off the blonde. Everyone pulled their arms back before launching them forward, handfuls of pumpkin insides flying straight for the bespectacled blonde. Tsukki had no choice but to accept his fate, eyes wide as he stood frozen in place.

A beat passed before Tsukki blinked, glancing down at his clothes now covered in pumpkin guts. He blinked once more, a heavy sigh slipping past his lips before he lifted his head to meet everyone's eyes once more, "I hate you all."

"Oh, don't be such a Scrooge, Tsukki!"

"That's Christmas, you idiot!"

1. Atsumu is actually shocked when you told him you wanted more than one kid with him. You tell him it’s okay if he just wants one but he’s all flustered at the thought of you having his children!

2. Atsumu is a very affectionate and doting dad. He spoils your daughters so much and they always make him take their side when you have to scold them aha ha

3. I think that Atsumu would be so ecstatic when you take your daughter to his games. He would show off his daughter and I can imagine that the teammates would treat her like their own niece!

4. Atsumu thinks you’re always beautiful but when you’re pregnant he thinks that’s when you’re the most beautiful. Maybe it’s him being horny but I think he’s just a sap who really loves his wife to bits

I adore Dad!Atsumu but I'm a little bias with giving him boys (plus all there is happens to be with daughters and hq guys which bugs me a little your almost 2% more likely to conceive a boy and if boys run in the family the chances of that are even higher, I just wish there were more dad/son headcannons with them)

The Atsumu being stunned when you want another kid. With him. God that hits different.

Atsumu adores kids and when they have little fans at the MSBY games he's ecstatic as can be! Sure Hinata and Bokuto are big children but with little kids he can share what he knows, encourage their love of the game and see the excitement in their eyes. It kills Atsumu and he just adores it.

So after your first is born he's floored you want another. With him. Atsumu always has that seed of doubt in him that festers on certain things. And you finding him annoying, pretentious and other negative traits is one of them. The fact you already gave him one beautiful child is en to make him cry. When you say you want another he full on does the lip quiver, ugly cry he does in the locker room when Kita gives him a get well basket.

Atsumu is an attentive man who adores you and his children to no end. It drives him harder than volleyball ever did and Osamu likes to tease him about it constantly

OIKAWA ok listen up i have a personal vendetta against tooru oikawa for no reason other than i can, but even i think he would actually be sweet about it. honestly he seems really shallow but is just a huge dweeb and doesnt want to lose someone he cares about over something they cant change. finds other ways to smother you with love like making sure to spend extra time with you or buying you that thing youve been eyeing for months.

December 2: 1x26 Errand of Mercy

Errand of Mercy is truly a trip. I’m swiftly losing my ability to be coherent because I need to go to sleep but here are some attempts:

First of all this is, of course, a straight-up, pure, unfiltered Kirk/Spock episode with a tiny bit of unrequited Kor/Kirk on the side. Like, we’re not even going to pretend to find stuff for the rest of the crew today. I see you, Gene Coon.

This is the first Klingon ep. I just... the actual Klingon-centric episodes ARE good, but the Klingons in general are pretty boring and I legit don’t understand why they became the standard Star Trek villain. (DC Fontana apparently thought that it was because their make up was simpler v. the Romulans, acc. to Amazon trivia and....I’ll buy that.)

Is the “cultural scale” called the Richter cultural scale? I seem to recall another scale with the exact same name....

I get why there would be such a scale but they are dead wrong about where the Organians fall on it.

Anyway not to harp on this yet again but @ fanom this isn’t the military right?? Lol

Oh, no, it’s Code One! No idea what that means but the music tells me it’s a big deal and it’s bad!

“Curious how often you humans manage to obtain that which you do not want.” He’s talking about war but I can think of some other things that fall into this category.

I think it’s pretty funny that Kirk records his Captain’s logs in public.

“You’ll get out of here, Sulu, and leave Spock and I... alone.”

“You’ll fall back to rendezvous with the rest of the Fleet in the Laurentian system.”

Why do these people show no interest in us beaming down into their village? Hmmm, I wonder. If the Organians really were what K and S think they are, beaming down in that way would be uh a bad idea.

Spock seems much less awkward at gesturing than Kirk does.

Finally, by the end of the season, they’ve figured out the context for the Enterprise: Starfleet, the Federation, etc.

I wish the Organians were our alien overlords and taylor.

So the Klingons are a military dictatorship.

Kirk finds them so frustrating. I feel like this ep falls into the genre “Kirk is frustrated by hippies.” All this generic peace talk and faultlessly chill attitudes are just not him.

“I’m a soldier, not a diplomat.” That’s why Spock likes him so much.

The Organians are trying to follow the Prime Directive but Kirk is making it SO HARD.

“Space vehicles.”

I know the Klingons are actually supposed to be in yellow face but you know what it looks like black face to me and I RE-ALLY wish they had not done that.

They look good in those Organian outfits. Love that they kept their command and science colors lol. I feel like this is the sort of outfit AOS Kirk wishes he had in that boring ass closet of his.

Mr. Spock does not look like an Organian.

I MUST know more about these “not uncommon” Vulcan merchants. “Dealing in kevas and trillium.”

KOR IS SO INTO KIRK. This flirting is the least subtle. “You’ll be taught to use your tongue.” “Where is your smile?” “You’re a ram among sheep.” “I need your obedience.” “You seem to be in command.” Is all of this supposed to sound sexual or...?

Right up there with “a stallion must first be broken.”

Whereas Kirk is so not into this. That expression says, “Don’t even think about talking about Spock’s tongue.”

The mind sifter is actually a crazy advanced sci fi machine and STID wanted us to think Klingons don’t have warp usdfsf go fuck yourself.

Kirk is so turned on by Spock’s mental strength.

Every spare moment of this ep is given over to K/S flirting. They legit act like an old married couple. “I thought you were going to fight that guy.” “I just might.” Or whatever.

I love that Kirk’s method of fighting is to literally launch his WHOLE BODY at enemies.

Whereas Spock’s there just running awkwardly in the background. He is Not coordinated friends.

Kirk’s speeches ARE admirable. He is lacking context here but in general if they WERE an oppressed people, this should be inspiring.

“For some reason, he feels as though he must destroy you.”

This Kor and Kirk scene... Kirk literally canNOT stop himself from flirting. His default smile is Charming. “Nothing...inconsequential [was destroyed] I hope...” Flirty smile, wink.

GO CLIMB A TREE I MEAN WHAT THE HECK WAS THAT.

The Organians are actually kind of hilarious. They’ll basically let these rando aliens do whatever they want, as long as they do no violence. That’s it, that’s the one rule.”Your captors planned to do violence to you, and to that I said...naw.”

Kirk ready to go out in a blaze of fire for a bunch of annoying hippies like “I’m going to white savior you now, ungrateful Organians.”(I say this with love; I love him.)

Can you believe Kirk and Spock are about to die in an unwinnable fight of 2 against Lots of Klingons, and they’re using their last moments to FLIRT AGAIN?

Gene Coon loves writing dialogue in which Spock calculates statistics and Kirk is turned on.

Also can you BELIEVE he just pulls Spock along by the arm? Any excuse to touch him.

Okay the Organians are officially tired of your bullshit.

This is basically the plot of A Taste of Armageddon except in that ep Kirk was the Organians.

“People have the right to handle their own affairs.” Is he wrong though??

The Organians are like “okay, we all had our fun here, now get out. Seriously.”

Can you imagine how fucking weird it would be to just randomly see this alien dude materialize in the White House, or, like, Starfleet San Francisco HQ, or wherever the “home world” of the Federation is supposed to be? Just a little throwaway line in there.

By the end Kor is just straight up hilarious. He’s giving off real Ian McKellan in Vicious vibes when he says “I can handle them.”

“I guess that takes care of the war.” Yep! Very efficient!

The “it” in “It would have been glorious” is DEFINITELY not the war lol.

“I was furious with the Organians for stopping a war I didn’t want.” I’m sorry but could not THAT have been the plot of STID?

“Spock, your math was wrong the whole time.” And now Spock and Kirk can BOTH sulk lol.

Those were all of my liveblog thoughts and it’s late but.... I had so many additional thoughts on this episode... Like a lot more.

First, I love when humanoids turn out to not be humanoids, that’s one of the best things.

Second, I think this is a very gutsy episode to air at the time, and that it would still be a gutsy episode to air now. I feel like it’s one of the peanut gallery’s favorite criticisms of ST nowadays to say it’s “colonialist” but this ep makes it pretty clear it’s not--that’s the opposite of the lesson of this story.

To attempt to explain better: I completely and unironically love Kirk but I do recognize that like all 3 dimensional characters he has flaws. In this ep, I thought that while his speeches and general point of view and strategic plan were definitely right for situations a population is oppressed--that people do have the power to fight back against dictatorships, even when the odds are bad, and that it is worth it to have the courage to fight back against such oppression--he was ultimately shown to be wrong in this instance because he wasn’t actually coming into that situation. He didn’t understand as much as he thought he did. He thought he was going to be the savior here: taking control for peoples who didn't know better, saving them from oppression, and then gifting them with technology and advancement as he understood it. The Federation wouldn't have enslaved them, but the Federation did want to use them. But the Organians really truly didn't need help--the native people understood their own needs better than the outside people. That's the lesson I took from the episode. Your intentions can be good but if you're coming into a foreign situation looking to control it, without understanding the actual people involved, you’re not being a true friend or ally, and you're likely to do no more harm than good. Opposition to tyranny has to come from the source, the oppressed peoples themselves.

When he refers to “weak, innocent people” standing in the way of superpowers in the beginning--he’s not attempting to derogatory, but that is a pretty demeaning characterization.

I also thought it interesting that the Organians can take any form they want and put their society at any stage of "advancement" they want and they chose a basic agrarian aesthetic. Cottagecore rights.

Kirk really had a confirmation bias when it came to the Organians. He had an image of them--innocent, weak, oppressed--and he only took information that fit with that characterization, rather than listening to them and what they were saying.

My mom and I also discussed whether this was IC or OOC of Kirk. I’m of two minds, myself. I think Kirk at his best is much more open-minded than this. His core morality is good faith, peace, friendliness, and care for all life forms, and there are plenty of examples of this (Charlie X, Mud’s Women, and The Corbomite Maneuver all immediately come to mind.) But he does have a blind spot that I think comes up often enough to be canonically part of his character: if something is threatening or killing his crew, or his people more broadly (the Federation), then ALL he cares about is neutralizing the threat. Rare alien? Possible scientific discovery? Might not have the full details of the situation? Doesn’t matter. I’m thinking The Man Trap, The Devil in the Dark, Arena. He wants to protect aliens, but not if the alien is killing his crew. He wants to make overtures of friendship, but not if the new being has already been aggressive.

I mean like I said... a part of me is like "no he is better than this!" but another part is like... well he does have that 'soldier' side of him, he is intensely loyal to his people. The “evil” Kirk of The Enemy Within. I think he just sometimes gets these blinders in certain situations when he's just sure he's right, which is very human.

Also although he's between McCoy and Spock on the continuum of "an objective right thing exists for all people and in all situations and we should always follow that morality" and "morality itself is relative, we should be respectful of alien ways of living even when we don’t understand them" I think in general Kirk and the show is more like McCoy. There IS a right morality here. (I’m thinking of The Apple or even A Taste of Armageddon.)

I also maintain that to say in 1967 "the very personality trait of being warlike is a common denominator between enemies at war" is a dramatic statement.

My mother suggested that Kirk was “strangely appealing” in his desire to save the Organians, with or without their help, and I do agree... I think that’s the complexity of the episode. The overall thrust of the plot is that Kirk was wrong--he’s left embarrassed at the end. I stand by what I said above. And they certainly go out of their way to show that the Klingons and Federation have something in common--namely, as I said, their very capacity to wage war, and interest in waging war.

BUT, as much as I get the point that they have certain similarities with the Federation--and I think this concept of 'these war-worthy disagreements seem trivial to an advanced and neutral species' is interesting, and even more so in comparison with A Taste of Armageddon which, as I said, is this same scenario from the Organians' POV essentially--at the same time it's a bit irritating to hear the democratic Federation compared to the oppressive dictatorship of the Klingons. Like yeah, okay, none of them are light beings and they both wanted to destroy each other--point taken. But would the Federation park itself on a random planet and kill 200 people the first day? I think not. So in this sense Kirk IS right. The Klingons are an adversary worth fighting, just not over the Organians.

I don’t know what I would think of his position if the Organians were being harmed but were also just...actually sheep. Like I guess I would say "well they have to have a reason.” And in fact they did--their bodies cannot be harmed, so they really don't care if the Klingons pretend to harm them. But I just can't comprehend people being like really honestly okay with that level of oppression, as opposed to too scared or too beaten down or too brainwashed to fight it, which is different.

...And from there we went into a discussion of curative v transformative fandom and yet more on what’s wrong with AOS sdfasfjsaldf it’s past 1 am I can’t be stopped BUT I SHOULD BE STOPPED.

what is this?

❁ a bunch of questions if you wanted to get to know me. they’re random facts, tid bits, and stories behind how i got to love bts, writing, and what i do beside writing these fics.

story behind your handle?

❁ you can call me: ann.

❁ the meaning of ‘anntidote’ is a mix of my pseudonym and a play off of the word, ‘antidote’, which is defined as a medicine.

❁ as most of the work i write is mature and/or explicit, this blog acts as a ‘cure’ for these thoughts.

how did you start writing ff?

❁ i started writing fan fiction in 2014. i was apart of a minecraft fandom, and wrote fan fiction for certain YouTubers in that friend group. then, i switched fandoms, in writing for an australian pop-punk band. afterwards, leading to where i am now- which is writing for: international kpop sensation sunshine rainbow traditional transfer usb hub shrimp, BTS. i grew up on anime due to my older brother. hq is no exception to this creative outlet, and i couldn’t be happier.

❁ just because i started writing in 2014 doesn’t mean i wasn’t an avid fan of other things. in no particular order: i liked o2l, had a swift phase, made rubber band bracelets, and loved musicals (still do).

how did you start liking bts?

❁ the prior group i liked (no hate towards the group, as i still love their music) lacked fan involvement and fresh frequent content. it’d been over a year since they’d put out something new, and i needed something else to listen to. i knew my friends were really into k-pop, so i thought- fuck it- why not? i approached them and they gave me recommendations based off of my music taste (heavy hip-hop, pop, and alternative rock). i listened to the music without prejudice and found myself enjoying it. i remember listening to the cypher series, save me, and simply being amazed.

how did you start liking haikyuu!! ?

my best friends and others in my friend group kept nudging me to watch. it took awhile but i eventually gave in, especially since i liked knb a lot. i’m truly glad i gave it a chance, as i kind of fell for tsukki the minute i saw him— he took none of the freak duo’s bs. and it was history from there.

how did you know your bias was rm?

❁ summer of 2017, lying on my couch and scrolling through YouTube, i spotted jimin’s ‘serendipity’ mv had just dropped. although i had been already listening to bts for a couple weeks before that, ly:her (DNA era) would be my first comeback. i fell in love with serendipity’s lyricism and looked into who wrote it. i fell in love with namjoon- right then and there. (note: this was when namjoon was still called ‘rap monster’ and everyday, i thank him for realizing that that name would not age well, and consequently changing it.)

❁ i always tell to new armys, “you don’t choose your bias. your bias chooses you.” although that sounds insanely cliche and stupid- i find it to be true. upon hearing namjoon’s voice for the first time, i did a double take. he knocked me out of my seat and didn’t need to apologize. there’s so much i could gush in adoration toward that man, but let’s move on.

besides writing, what are your hobbies?

❁ i major in audio technology and am enrolled in a mixing and mastering course. i aspire to work in the music industry, and i write songs in my free time. as i’m training to be a mixing engineer/producer, writing songs leads me to writing other ideas- which is one of the reasons why i’m here! c: i’ve also been singing my entire life- which may or may not attribute to the fire. being an army has only reinforced my dreams and expectations ten fold.

❁ when i’m not burying myself in work, i’m either cooking, catching up on my shows, or sleeping. there’s no in between.

- cooking is therapeutic for me. (wrapping meat dumplings, frying chicken or potatoes, or emulsifying pasta sauce.)

- other than bts variety shows, i watch a lot of anime. i love sports (haikyuu & kuroko no basket, etc), classics (sailor moon, fairy tale, fruits basket, dbz, naruto, etc.), and others. i love romance, comedy, and competition.

how do you get inspiration?

❁ by doing nothing. and i know this sounds stupid, but it’s the truth- whether you like it or not. namjoon also partakes in this stupidity (he’s said this in an interview). i could be avidly searching everywhere for what i need to write next, or i could kick back, relax, and let the thoughts come and go as they please. i simply try to enjoy the tasks i do on the daily, and notice the small things that lead me on to creative trains of thought. (ie: seeing a plane fly overhead, and thinking of seatbelts.) “i do nothing for twelve hours... but when i get to the studio, my mind clicks.”

trademark facts about yourself

❁ i love salty chips. specifically, spicy ones. hot cheetos are glorified in this household. due to covid, i haven’t been able to have them- and i swear, i’m hitting withdrawals. (takis, sweet & spicy doritos, hot cheetos, kettle cooked potato chips, etc.)

❁ my favorite color is red. it used to be pink, because i wanted to spite people on the color’s duality. but this was the color of one of the boy’s i liked- so i changed it. even though i got over the boy, i still liked the color because of how empowered it made me feel.

❁ i’m introverted. very much so. it’s kind of crippling... my out of pocket posts may lead you to think otherwise, but no. trust me. i just seem extroverted at times because i get really passionate about what i do. (my MBTI is ISFP-T.)

❁ i don’t like coffee. perhaps i’m too young, but when i write, i love drinking hot chocolate- even in the summer.

❁ i’d fallen in love with music before i stanned bts. i’ve always participated in music and have been captivated by how singers tell stories without borders. bts empowers change and reinforces the voice of youth, that has been shunned so many times. i’m so happy to support their cause.
