Sometimes when you’re writing it’s better to dodge the clichés and sometimes those clichés are clichés for a reason and you’ve just gotta give it up for the classics, such as:
Character A: You think Character C’s okay?
Character B: Hey, you know C! They’re always okay!
[Jump cut to Character C, who is very much Not Okay right now]

"I don't understand, where did I go wrong?" The hero cried out, their face burning up from anger. "I did everything you asked! You told me you'd let them live!"
"Everyone can't get what they want, you do know that right?" The superhero leaned forward, hiding a smile from under their mask. "Besides, they're too dangerous. Why should I let them go?"
They held their tongue.
"Oh? What's wrong?" The superhero asked smugly. "You can't answer? Or is it because you know that your answer won't satisfy me?"
"I'll kill you with my own damn hands," The hero snarled, stepping back. "I'll show everyone who you really are."
All they did was laugh, getting into position. "I'd love to see you try."

Character A (to C): You need to learn how to be more responsible! Take B, for example.
Character B: Who, me? What did I do?
Character A: I don’t know. You’re the example. What do you do?
Character B: I mean… I mostly… stab things. And eat chips.
Character C: Sounds like a good example to me!
Character A: Wait— No-

Lies
A: You.
B: Yes?
A: You lied to me.
B: ....when?
A: You told me that if I was at least 5 feet away from someone before saying hi to them, they wouldn't be startled or scared.
B: ...
A: That was a lie-
C: You were on the CEILING!
B: Pffft-

She sat bent over her desk, scrawling down another illegible note about Yale. Her back ached, but she didn’t move as she stared intently at her phone, reading the umpteenth article about the famed university. As yet another hour flew by, Character A approached her.
“It’s five PM.” Character B nodded in response as A groaned. “You missed dinner.”
“I have to study.” He rolled his eyes.
“You’re literally a middle schooler. Relax.” He didn’t miss her subtle flinch as the eldest brother strutted into the room.
“You better not be getting distracted,” Character C told her, chewing something crunchy. She pictured potato chips, and her mouth watered, but she shook her head at him. C readjusted her glasses, pushing them up B’s face and sighing. A stared holes into C with his arms crossed.
“You’re making her research colleges.”
C just sighed again and didn’t bother turning his black haired head to face his brother. “She needs to get started someday.”
A clenched his teeth. “She’s only 11! She doesn’t need to! She has a lot of time —“
“Says the guy who flunked all of his classes and would’ve gone to a public college if Mom hadn’t saved your ass,” C retorted, finally giving his dark haired sibling a tired glare. “She needs to get started now, or she’ll end up like you. But I guess that’s what you want, isn’t it?”
A had to swallow his rage as he pictured flinging C across the room. How could he sit on the table, watching B obediently read through article after article for hours? “Let her be. She’s still a kid! Don’t live through her childhood just because you didn’t get into an Ivy League school!”
C’s brown eyes flashed as he said nothing in response. Instead, he turned back to B, who had stopped writing as she listened. “Done already?”
She shook her head rapidly, swallowing and hastily scribbling down another sentence crammed into her stuffed notebook. A watched in disgust as C smiled and tucked one of B’s brown strands of hair behind her ear.
“This is wrong,” A spat. “It shouldn’t be like this. It shouldn’t be you.”
“This is what’s best for her, and if you knew better, you’d help her too. Everyone grows up, A. Even her.”
As her brothers glared at each other, B nodded. And nodded. And nodded until she was asleep as her pencil dropped to the floor.

It’s pretty well known, and probably a bit cliche, but I remembered an angsty trope that I really love:
A group of characters are in the middle of a fight/battle, and everything and everyone seems fine after it. However, something seems wrong with Character A. It’s revealed that they’ve been wounded, and blood is dripping out of the wound and onto the ground. Probably all over their hands as well, if Character A was trying to hide it.
And, honestly, it was probably Character A’s side that got hit in the fight, that’s where everyone seems to get hurt in this.
And then cue the very worried Character B, Character C, etc. Who rush over to Character A, all worried.

Didn't Listen
Character B rises a brow at the soaked Character A. “And what,” they start crossing their arms, “did I tell you earlier?”
“Not wake Character C,” Character A mumbles, having the decency to look apologetic, their eyes on the floor.
“And what did you do?” Character B asks, waiting.
“I woke them,” Character A mumbles again, as Character B nods before grabbing a pillow and starting to wack Character A.
“Why do you never listen,” they say with each wack, and soon it turns into a pillow fight.
___
I think the pillow fight defeats the point.

You know, when I see fictional characters who repress all their emotions, they're usually aloof and very blunt about keeping people at a distance, sometimes to an edgy degree—but what I don't see nearly enough are the emotionally repressed characters who are just…mellow.
Think about it. In real life, the person that's bottling up all their emotions is not the one that's brooding in the corner and snaps at you for trying to befriend them. More often than not, it's that friendly person in your circle who makes easy conversation with you, laughs with you, and listens and gives advice whenever you're upset. But you never see them upset, in fact they seem to have endless patience for you and everything around them—and so you call them their friend, you trust them. And only after months of telling them all your secrets do you realize…
…they've never actually told you anything about themselves.

The team is hit with a weapon they’ve never encountered before. A few moments pass in silence. Finally Character A blinks a few times, glances around in confusion.
“So...what was that supposed to do?”
“I don’t know?” Character B looks themself over and finds no damage. “I don’t feel any different.”
It doesn’t seem like anything notable has changed -- until just behind them Character C crumples to the ground without a word.
