Polaris Hilda, The High Priestess
My fanart for the Saint Seiya Tarot Collaboration organized by CyberSpecter. This artwork is Glazed.
Illustration elements explanation under the cut:
The High Priestess card represents a connection between the mortal existence and higher knowledge, just like how Hilda is the connection between her people and the gods in Asgard.
The rune ᚨ (ansuz) between her hands symbolized divine guidance, and was frequently used to refer to Odin. Odin himself was a seeker of knowledge, going as far as sacrificing one of his eyes in exchange of wisdom. And even though in the anime Hilda only wears her raven-winged black headpiece while under the influence of the Nibelung ring, the fact it exists and is very similar to the headpiece in Odin's statue, leads me to believe it's part of her priestess attire. All in all, the three elements (ansuz, eye, headpiece) are linked through color and highlight, to represent Hilda's connection to the gods.
Her golden piece was redesigned to resemble the Viking Urnes style. The "moon-crown" elements are said to reference Hathor from Egyptian mythology, but also represent different stages of life (child, adult, senior) through the moon phases. The stars are a nod to the Ursa Major and the Polaris star, so prominent in the Asgard saga (they aren't included in the website version of the card because they match the frame used here specifically, and I didn't want it to look weird with the website frame)

I used to have a Deltarune Monsterswap AU concept 300 years ago but I literally can't remember what it was so... I made a new one.
consider the following: Monster AU Kris, but they're basically just a stray dog that keeps mooching for chocolate and also raids your trash when you're not looking. if it fits in their mouth they're eating it. Noelle is not getting back her gingerbread erasers from 3rd grade.
there is no puppy-proofing anything from this menace. sorry.

For this Halloween I decided I would draw one of El Salvador’s legend as a Monster High character. The legend I used is El Cadejo blanco y negó (the white and black wolf), the main premise of the legend is the two wolves are foils of each other. The white wolf was created by God to protect people from evil while the black wolf was created to spread evil. Every once in a while they will cross paths and have a great battle symbolizing the fight between good and evil.
The outfits were inspired from the Mingueña costume used in the Sonsonate department in El Salvador

Asgard según El Cadejos
God Robes
The seven (eight) original God Robes are and represent
Dubhe Alpha - Fafnir
Merak Beta - Sleipnir
Phecda Gamma - Jörmungandr
Megrez Delta - ?
Alioth Epsilon - Fenrisúlfr
Mizar Zeta -  Saber Tooth tiger
Benetasch Eta - ?
The Princess of Asgard and her heir are aware of who is a candidate, but wait until the will of the gods manifests itself (instead of telling them beforehand). We see the God Robes have been slumbering undisturbed for a long time. Dubhe Alpha in the volcano outer walls, Merak Beta inside and under magma, and so on.
Tumblr media
The anime is vague on what determines who can wear a God Robe, so I narrowed it down to two options
Those whose bloodline ties them to a specific God Robe
Those who are worthy
The former case seems to apply to Fenrir, Syd, Bud, and Siegfried.
Tumblr media
Alioth Epsilon was inside the family manor (quite simbolic for it to be exactly behind the family crest, which also happens to feature two wolf heads). To consider, the fact that Loki » Fenrir » Hati / Sköll solidifies the importance of blood ties.
Tumblr media
Mizar and Alcor Zeta reference a creature that doesn’t belong to Norse mythology, and also did not live in this region at all (Smilidon were local to Asia and America, not Europe). It seems too much of a coincidence for both God Robes and a family crest to illustrate the same animal.
Tumblr media
Finally, we have Dubhe Alpha, which references a formidable dragon from Norse mythology, and Siegfried shares the name of the legendary hero who defeated it (as well as being their direct descendant). In a way, this shows how his bloodline is that of the true Asgardian dragon slayers, worthy of weilding power from Fafnir (99% invulnerability) after killing it.
Regarding those who are worthy, we know Alberich is Asgard’s brightest mind. Even if he were not as physically formidable as the others, he is skilled enough to weild a sword, and strategize ahead to have a clear advantage over his opponent (there’s even evidence that his ancestor was also a skilled warrior, fighting Dohko).
Thor is not only tall, strong, and formidable in combat. He is also a caring individual who takes risks for the greater good, hunting on royal grounds (which is forbidden) to feed those less fortunate around him.
Though I believe Asgardians have a natural tendency towards manifesting some ice when using cosmos (as seen with Hilda in general, and the twins when executing the Viking Tiger Claw attacks), Hagen is the only Asgardian skilled enough to have mastered both ice and fire cosmo.
Mime was rasied and trained by the great Asgardian warrior Folker, and was eventually able to kill him after realizing he had murdered Mime’s biological parents. The sheer skill and strength to do so at a young age goes to prove Mime’s prowess.
God Robes in Soul of Gold
There are inconsistencies regarding these armours. In the original saga, the seven (eight) God Robes were directly linked to the Big Dipper asterism in Ursa Major. However, in Soul of Gold they reference creatures from Norse mythology (much like Cloths, Surplices, and Scales do for their respective themes).
The SOG God Robes have Sapphires, but they were quickly discarded for the red gems Loki created, so I take that as a pass to HC that the original ones are in a higher category because their Sapphires are the only ones able to summon Odin’s God Robe (which also tries to explain why these are named after stars, instead of creatures). In SOG, the God Robes reference the following
Gullinbursti
Nidhogg
Tanngrisnir
Eikthyrnir
Grani
Hraesvelgr
Garm
Shadow Robes
Astronomically speaking, there is only one Shadow Robe (Alcor) because Zeta is a double star system. However, this feels incomplete to me within lore, so I have expanded it and designated a Shadow Warrior for each God Warrior. Their main task is to guard the God Warrior from treacherous danger, and act as their right hand (explored a little deeper in this post). Should the God Warrior perish, their Shadow will take their place.
Shadow Robes have no Sapphire, and aside from the mask/helmet eye colors, are completely pearl white. Being the only one with a designated star, Alcor Zeta is their leader.
Odin Sapphire
As mentioned before, all God Robes have a Sapphire, but only the ones linked to a star are able to summon Odin’s God Robe.
In my HC, are God Robes inheritable?
Only those tied to a bloodline can be inherited. Shadow Robes are not inheritable because the person chosen to wear them is directly linked (not necessarily by blood) to the God Warrior they protect.
Characteristics
Robes are warm to the touch of those who wear them, and their Shadows.

The black and white Cadejos!
The black one is sometimes thought to be sent by the devil and the white one is good and protective of drunks. Sometimes they're thought to be one and the same creature, other times they're separate. They're very cool guys

"el cadejo"
another entry into my mythological creatures coloring pages series (from november)!
Anyway El Cadejo is a folklore that comes from central america (mostly el salvador and guatemala but folklore moves and evolves around places, so there's all sorts of variants on it).
(long post is long)
The myth tells of a spirit that appears in the shape of a large dog like creature with glowing eyes that appears to travelers on the road at night. If the dog is black with glowing red eyes, the traveler is doomed and will be eaten; if the dog is white with blue eyes, they'll have a safe journey. In some versions, there are two dogs- so if the white dog appears while the black dog is upon you, you will be saved (usually you're just SOL if you see the black dog). In other versions, there is only one "dog" and the color/eyes are just determined by how the spirit is feeling that day (if it's calm, it is white with blue eyes, if it's angry, black with red eyes).
Most descriptions of the dog are that it's kind of thin and tall and weird looking for a dog, so I decided to base these on coyotes (specifically the subspecies that are found in central america- they have slighter frames and slightly different features to other subspecies).
They do look like dogs at a glance until you get up close and are like OH NO THAT'S NOT A DOG*. Coyotes are also ambush pack hunters- often you'll see one coyote and it will "lure" you into the rest of the pack which matched up a little bit with some stories of the black dog "luring" travelers to their death (particularly travelers who were incapacitated in some manner).
It's also often described as having long tangles of hair along its back but a naked face- so I gave it a tendril-y mane and sort of a more sunken look to its face with some hints of skull. I wanted the black dog to feel darker but not actually be completely opaque too, so it got a lot of line work whereas the white dog got very little. They still (hopefully) look related.
For the scene, I really wanted to try and convey an isolated area that's not that far from civilization-almost because you're so close to home, that getting waylaid by something supernatural is THAT much worse.  I also wanted it to be clearly night time but making that fun to color was a weird balance (i might tweak it when i get to the colored in version)- I ended up doing negative space inking with white on the mountains to give a little more texture to them while still keeping it a night scene. I went with the two dogs version mostly just b/c it fit what I wanted with the composition (the fear of "you're so close to home" but the also slight relief of "ah but maybe there's help on the way" and then pair it with the "but will it be in time")
this was actually suggested by my therapist, who is from el salvador and his father would tell him cautionary tales of el cadejo when he was groing up. i've been trying to expand what sorts of folklore i hit for this book (that i have been eternally working on now T.T) and he was telling me how he would have loved as a kid to see more of the tales he grew up with in more mainstream books etc.
(i really want people to feel seen and included in my work but i also don't want to overstep so i've been trying to balance that. Doing the research for this one made me really want to learn spanish b/c i found so many great folklore articles that jstor didn't have the best translations for lol).
*i'm originally from new england where we actually had coyote-wolf hybrids running amok (coywolves) and they are REALLY big and not something you'd want to meet at night when walking your dog (they also will absolutely stalk you/try to bait your dog, and they do eat pets a fair amount) so i was also pulling from that a bit. Most of the coyotes you get in socal and further south are much smaller and not terribly aggressive.

Falling for you
Jack and Vega for Valentines 2024!
Some more info under the cut
Vega's animal motif are vultures (from her chosen name "Vultur Cadens"), specifically the Bearded Vulture (Gypaetus barbatus).
The heart behind them symbolizes their interest status; Vega is almost completely in, while Jack is just realizing he's a little more invested than he thought.
Initially, Jack doesn't want to even think about it, since Vega is not even from the same world, and could be gone at any moment as far as they all know. But then again...

[DOGSONG INTENSIFIES]
here's a few more Deltarune Monsterswap Kris doodles, and this time I'll toss a handful of related headcanons and tidbits below the cut!
- Kris's origins are unknown prior to Asriel finding them digging around in trash cans in front of the house when they were tiny; they seemed to have been living on their own for a while, eating anything they could get their paws on and avoiding strangers. they might not remember their time on the streets, but they still have a habit of eating weird things-- even when they're not really hungry. if you offer it to them they WILL eat it, that is both a promise and a threat.
- they initially didn't like to communicate outside of a variety of dog noises, and for the first couple years the Dreemurrs weren't actually sure if they could talk at all. they still tend to prefer growls, barks, and whines though, since many sounds used in everyday speech are a bit difficult for them to make and their paws lack the dexterity(and 1 finger) for some sign language. they can still talk though with a bit of effort, and may write out responses or spell in ASL if they're struggling too much with pronunciation. they struggle worse when frustrated or upset due to trying to speak through a growl.
- more of Kris's behaviors carry over from dogs and wolves than just their sounds and appearance; seeing if Susie's head can fit in their mouth once they're pals isn't just a goofy joke (though it's definitely a goofy joke on her part). it's actually their weird attempt at nibbling like a wolf-- a sign of affection and friendliness. nobody in Hometown actually knows enough about wolves to pick up on that, though, so they don't try it with anyone other than Susie since they know she won't panic. she just thinks it's the silliest thing ever.
- Kris is actually a monster loosely based on 'el cadejo,' a mythical dog spirit from Central America. whereas dark-furred cadejos are believed to be malevolent and dangerous beings, white-furred ones are seen as benevolent protectors and guides. their color palette swap between dark and light world references this; in the light world they have dark brown and tan fur with red eyes, but in the dark world they're white and silver-furred with blue eyes. notably, the dark cadejo is also associated with the devil-- paralleling Kris's devil horns they wore as a child. and likewise, their benevolent side is associated with angels, in line with the 'angel' that may or may not be the Player.

Asgard según El Cadejos
Odin’s Army
The hierarchy of those who fight for Odin is as follows:
1. Odin’s Priestess
A role performed by the Asgardian Princess, a direct descendant of that valkyrie who in the age of legend was asked to stay in Midgard (home to mankind) and be the link between it and Asgard (home to gods). She commands the army.
Tumblr media
2. Star-linked God Warriors
Keepers of the seven Sapphires capable of summoning Odin’s God Robe, the most powerful among his soldiers, and leaders of smaller legions of starless God Warriors. Chosen by Odin himself.
Tumblr media
3. Shadow Warriors
Bodyguards to the star-linked God Warriors and their right hand. Should their God Warriors perish, they will inherit their place as leader of the legion and the Odin Sapphire. Chosen by Odin himself.
An individual designated as Shadow Warrior usually has a link to the person they guard (positive or negative). However, as they are specifically chosen by the gods for this role, if they perish as well, it is unlikely they can be replaced without a new God Warrior being designated first.
Tumblr media
4. Starless God Warriors
Their Sapphires cannot summon Odin’s God Robe. The total number varies, and they organize in seven legions under the command of a star-linked God Warrior and their Shadow. Chosen by the God Robes.
Tumblr media
5. Skjaldmö and soldiers
Skjaldmö (shield-maidens) are warrior women without God Robes but skilled in the use of cosmo. Their main task is being personal escorts for royalty, but also keep peace at Valhalla Palace and the Citadel, leading soldiers and guards along the way. If necessary, they will also support starless God Warriors.

Edit 3: Wolf Parent poll is on guys
Edit: While characters like Kristoff (Frozen), Barbie (the Island Princess), Koko (Pokemon), Atalanta (Greek Mythology) and Egg (Boxtrolls) fits the Trope, but aren't raised by literal wolves, so I didn't put them here
Edit 2: should I make a 'best wolf parent' next? With Lupa, Andrius, Moro, Ging, Raksha and Rama? 🐺

I still kinda new in the Saint Seiya Fandom, does Fenrir has a specific wolf parent? Question Answered by @ el-cadejos
