book enola: think I forgot…how to be happy (something I’m not, but something I can be. Something to wait for…what was I made for?)

Just want to talk about this scene in the Enola Holmes 2 trailer:
Tumblr media
Sherlock pulls his sword out of his cane. He straight up carries a sword in case of emergencies. And he throws it with IMPECCABLE AIM.
Tumblr media
Tewkesbury looks like he’s already been through a fight. Also, where is Enola? Does this mean at some point it’s just Sherlock and Tewkesbury?? What does that mean???
Tumblr media
This shot more clearly shows the cane hilt, which is different than the one Sherlock carried in the first movie. Actually, looking back on the canes from the first movie...
Tumblr media
This almost looks like Mycroft’s cane. Which means that either Sherlock also has a similar cane design that he uses only on certain outings, or he’s using Mycroft’s cane, which then begs the question of how Sherlock got it and whether Mycroft knows what it actually is.
Tumblr media
And then Tewkesbury fights with his left hand. Not only that, but when he reaches out to catch the sword he uses his left hand. It’s very possible he has left hand dominance.
I only bring up this last point because left-handedness is a huge part of the second book. The movie seems to be adapting the case pretty loosely, but I really hope that, if Tewkesbury does turn out to be left-handed, it somehow connects to what’s happening.

reading the enola holmes books gives me so much hope and theories for if there’s a third movie… like, in the third book, watson goes missing. imagine how awesome it would be for that storyline to be adapted into a movie!!!!!

Babes I'm getting the urge to re-read all 6 of the original Enola Holmes books and write fanfiction about her and her lovely friend Cecily because they didn't get enough time together in my opinion.

I’m reading Enola Holmes (mostly the graphic novel, so this might not be accurate) and Enola is definitely a butch with some really femme disguises because she takes advantage of the whole spectrum. (Also one of her cases definitely included a trans guy)

Right, so, is the Enola Holmes 2 film an Enola Holmes film, or another Sherlock Holmes film? I ask, because of two points.
1, the plot of the story has only the barest points in common with the books it's adapted from. I checked, it is said that this sequel is an original story, so not following the plots of any of the books by Nancy Springer, yet the character of Cecily and her love affair with a tradesman's son are taken directly from the second book. Everything else, not so much. If you're going to write an original story in an already existing literary universe (aka, fanfiction), at least go all the way and also invent the original characters you need. Cause now there's an obstacle if you ever want to reconnect with the original material, you already used that existing character in a way that's different from the story they appear in.
2, the heck is Moriarty doing in a Enola Holmes story? That's Sherlock's nemesis, and, oh look at that, we spend as much time caring for Sherlock's case and existential crisis (when is he not having one of those) as Enola's. I know, I know, "it's Henry Cavill, we can't just hire him to do some cameos", but again, this is supposed to be about Enola, not her brothers. I gotta say, loooove the fact that here's another Sherlock Holmes adaptation that genderbend Moriarty, it's fun having macho boy over there get beaten again and again not by one but by two women (nothing will ever make me forget the sheer joy of reading about Irene Adler). Buuuut the fact that Moriarty in this movie (spoilers, I guess) is absolutely fantastic again takes away from the fact that this should be about Enola's work and establishment, not as a crutch for Sherlock.
I am salty because I love Nancy Springer's book series, and I wish they would have kept going with it, instead of going original and making it all about Sherlock again, but in truth the film is enjoyable. If you have no idea the books exist, it's a good divertissement! But for the book lovers, just imagine if we could have had Enola taking on all those disguises, completely changing herself, her actual cleverness, skills and compassion... It would have been awesome.

have I seen the recent Enola Holmes 2 movie ?
no
do I want to see it ??
Yes and no
there is a small part of me that does want to see it just because there aren't enough movies and TV shows that entice me(if you seen a few of my posts you know how picky I am) and I do like period pieces.
but on the other hand I've seen the first movie after reading all the books because the trailer got me so interested and then... the actual movie was so disappointing to me. the portal of Sherlock, Enola dressing as a boy(a thing that book Enola never did and I loved that she didn't ), the combat skills... I didn't mind it but also was it needed? I'm also bitter that they didn't make it into a TV show because the pacing would have been much better.
the hinting at a Enola and Tewky was pretty good but I still prefer to imagine 12y/o Tewky falling for 14y/o Enola when she saved him and yearn after her until they meet again when Enola and lady Cecily have their own Perditorian office. I don't really care if it doesn't work out between them, it's the yearning and eventual friendship that I need from these kids

if movie!enola was a bit more book-accurate, her and Tewkesbury would be the definition of the “she’s broken/he’s Ken” meme that was going around in the hype of the film. Change my mind.

In Enola Holmes 2, Enola is told by her mom to get a haircut. I find this funny because one way my family tells each other I love you is “get a haircut”. It’s Eudoria’s can’t express feelings way of telling her daughter “I love you”
