so empires smp is a fantasy setting right? so you know what we do when there's a fantasy setting? do complex worldbuilding to figure out how each empire would communicate of course :)

(basically this is just an excuse for me to dump my brain out a bit)

Codlands- i feel like the codlands wouldn't actually have a set way for communication. in my mind, it's one of the smallest empires and is pretty casual at that, so if they need a message sent out someone will deliver it personally

Crystal Cliffs- magic!! gotta use that magic for something. i feel like gem would use doves or something for more casual communication (for style points ofc) but if it's urgent i wanna say there's a way to magically kind of fax notes straight to someone. like you're sitting at your desk and POOF, note. i also like to think that her and fwhip exchange "talking notes" like that one in harry potter that ron gets where it records your voice i guess? i dunno i think they do it for gossip since it's best consumed spoken not written

Gilded Helianthia- duckies :)) i don't know a single thing about pearl's empire yet but i know it has a duck flag so yeah duck messengers

Grimlands- the grimlands uses a mix of carrier pigeons and ravens. plus, later on when fwhip learns a bit of magic he starts using the magic notes with gem but the actual citizens don't do that

House Blossom- is it house blossom or the overgrowth? i dunno i still need to watch katherine's pov. anyway i think people will just. get flowers that show up on their doorstep or something from the overgrowth. no one knows how they get there and the messages attached are always slightly cryptic

Mezalea- hot air balloons!! like joel's delivery service :D i think it's not very efficient but gets style points definitely. like imagine a tiny balloon floating down to your window to give you a note. that's magical

Maztec Empire- i feel like they don't communicate with anyone outside their own empire i dunno why. maybe cause it's called the lost empire? i know nothing about joey's pov yet tho so this will probably change

Mythland- they don't communicate sausage just appears behind you if he needs to tell you something. how? 🤷‍♂️

Ocean Empire- fish are best messengers. yeah they get the paper wet but look at their little faces. you're gonna be mad at that lil guy?

Pixandria- i'm gonna say that wandering traders give out messages for you. like mailmen. so there's a whole system of wandering trader comes back home, stocks up goods to travel again, someone pays for them to deliver a message, etc.

Rivendell- the owls! harry potter mfs using owls for mail 🤨 but i think scott actually uses an owl for mail in an episode but i'm not sure? i watched his pov like 8 months ago i can't remember

Undergrove- i'd have to give this some actual thought but at the moment i think it would be very funny if they could make mushrooms spell out messages like the mosquitoes in gravity falls. like they're very simple and always kind of misspelled

i have not watched all the povs so some stuff may not be accurate so please let me know if i should change anything (please feed my worldbuilding need please please please please please please)

Can someone please give me a rundown on Katherine's empires 1 lore?? Cause I have a headcannon that involves her, but I don't really know a whole lot about her character other than she's some sort of nature guardian(?) Disclaimer: This is a linguistics-heavy post. The post covers some of the progress after about a month on the conlanging projects.

Overgrownian

Overgrownian is a very phonetic language, in that the pronunciation is fairly straightforward and without weird spellings like in English

The endonym (native name) of the Overgrown, leim Ailəyetié (IPA: /leɪm aːilə'jɛtiːɛː/) – roughly translates to "flourishing, luxuriant"

There is an animate/inanimate grammatical gender divide; in the language itself, they are called "light words" and "dark words", respectively

The plural method is based on the word for 'the' used; there are 6 different forms of 'the' depending on the grammatical gender (and/or if it is a proper noun) and whether the noun is singular or plural, but the base noun itself does not change

There are different words for inclusive and exclusive "we"

There are also different words for "thank you" in response to a gift or a service (I totally did not yoink that from my mother tongue, shh)

There is an insane number of colours due to the many different tints for flowers and plants of all sorts

For colour-words in noun form, due to their contrasting origins, all abstract colours are inanimate, while all descriptive colour-words are animate because their etymology is almost always derived from animate concepts

There are a fair number of loan-words from other languages, e.g. "(the) beach/coast" is lei Atsomúzin (IPA: /leɪ ətsɔ'muːʒiːn/), which was borrowed from Middle Oceanic

Oceanic

Different biomes have different dialects; but not Chinese varieties-level different because the ocean is considerably more static than land (Inspiration: biological evolution is slower in the sea than on land due to a more constant environment)

There is a sound is only comprehensible to fish people, roughly romanized as the English sound PR; it is said to be rooted in an onomatopoeia of the sound of the ocean

There is no grammatical gender, but titles and pronouns (when applicable) differentiate between genders a lot; this is because fish have complex gender identities due to some being relevant to certain aquatic species (e.g. clownfish)

Word order is subject-object-verb (SOV)

Transgender people are "of the stripes; striped" as the state of being transgender is first observed and documented among the Clownfish people

Salmon are natively translated as "parasites from the rivers" because they "feed on the bounty of the ocean" as adults and "their heartland is the rivers where they were born" → the more modern (as of Season 1) politically neutral term is the English/Common loanword sh(a)-m(o)

Season 1 Empiresona go brrr-

Meet Tev of House Gardenia! A few details about them under the cut

They are a Fae born in the Overgrown under House Gardenia (refer to this post to see my headcanons on the Overgrown, where I mention the concept of Houses o3o). Their family owns a tea shop, which means E!Tev makes some pretty darn good tea you won't find in other empires.

As a collector of flowers and an absolute plant nerd, they took the job of identifying and cataloguing all the plantlife in the Overgrown. They also spend a lot of time in other empires as to keep track of their fascinating flora and register the differences between those and their own homeland.

Gilded Helianthia is by far one of their favourite places to visit. Despite being shy, they've come to know many of the people in the small empire, given the amount of times they spent the night over. And yes, they absolutely lost their mind when the giant beanstalk began to sprout. They would help Pearl investigate it and document its development, and sometimes just stare at it in awe. They didn't come back home for at least a month.

Another place they absolutely adore is the Grimlands. E!Tev has made it their life goal to understand all the properties and logistics of wither roses, and the Grimlands happen to have the biggest wither rose field in the entire continent. They used to get sick often from handling these cursed flowers for so long, but they have since developed some resistance; also gloves, they learned to wear gloves.

Once they heard about the wonders that the magical Gem Crystals had been doing to plants and mushrooms, they started taking an unusual interest in Crystal Cliffs. No amount of bargaining or begging would convince Gem to give them the crystals, especially not after all the shenanigans her allies had been pulling with them. So Tev often tries to take them without her noticing, which ultimately got them banned from any of her structures.

The vine-like markings on their arms are a pretty common birth mark for their kind. Those vines can grow to cover other parts of their body when they're under extreme stress.

Their coat is a bit too big on them, yes. It was way too many pockets, which is good, because they carry way too many things around. Small books and notebooks, quills, gloves, a gardening supply kit, a potions kit, an extra pair of glasses, a teacup, first aid kit, seeds and just about anything they find that fits in their cartoonishly big inside pockets. There is a game amongst those who know them called What Random Stuff Can You Find In Tev's Pockets. It gets heated.

They hold very deep admiration for Katherine. Seen as they report their new findings and the current state of the flower forest directly to the Guardian, they've personally gotten to know of her kindness and dedication to the Overgrown. If she ordered them to burn all of their books, they would-

Look this is 100% self gratifying crack. Based on my own 100% genuine experience:

I have a large tattoo, across my chest, shoulder blades and back. So, I was fairly resigned to the fact I'd probably never get to go to a public bath whilst visiting my friend in Japan, fair enough. One day however, she says she'd found a bath that allowed tattoos, and not just tiny ones that could be hidden by a plaster. So I go, very excited, and end up round the back of an area with a lot of signs advertising SoapIands and LoveHoteIs. I explain in the shakiest Japanese to the lady manning the counter that I have a large tattoo and she waves me in nonplussed. Pretty much every man there is covered in tattoos. Whilst I was drying my hair, one of them tries to ask me something but my Japanese was no where near good enough to answer. When I get back my friend seemed a little worried and then confesses that she'd found out, after I'd left, that she'd sent me to a yakuza bathhouse.

I wish I was able to understand what that man was trying to say to me.

Thinking about how with all of the rain, and the weather of spring, when fable ends and the sun starts shining through the clouds, the flowers are going to bloom brightly and everything is going to flourish, how when it's finally over, an end to a war we can't even count the start of, the ground will be muddy and drowned, but as they start to grieve, having the ability and safety, finally get the time to process everything since fable got out, their going to start the journey of healing, slowly, and there will be time marked with nothing but drenched earth and dreary skies, but then the world will start flourishing around them, despite everything, the world will bloom.
