you took the words right out of my mouth || Kim Yeong-Hu x Reader
Tumblr media
word count: 1k
warnings & tags: mostly sweet and fluffy, implied sex but nothing explicit, just harmless flirtation
A/N: For @neohumanmonster's Born in Blood prompt! I don't know if I'll post the other prompts right away because I don't want to burn myself out, so I hope you'll enjoy that one in the meantime!
Tumblr media
“You do realize that there are two doctors in here, right?” you ask as you enter the room, not bothering to greet the man sitting on the examination table.
Sergeant Kim Young Hu’s eyes follow you as you walk to the sink to wash your hands. Around his bicep, a makeshift bandage seeped with red. By the looks of it, it isn’t the worst state you’ve seen him in.
“I’m not letting that lunatic touch me,” he answers, his voice calm, as it usually is, and you roll your eyes.
You’d be lying if you said you were a fan of Dr. Lim. You already had your issues with the man when you both worked for the government, before this all started. Once the Outbreak had begun, it had taken you forty-eight hours as his assistant before you had requested to start working out in the field. You’re well-aware of his shortcomings.
Unfortunately, and it stings to admit it, he’s one of the most competent doctors you’ve ever met. He’d be more than able to take care of the Sergeant.
“You do realize I have other things to do, right?”
“And I am deeply sorry to have taken you away from your fifth grade biology lessons.”
…Okay, he has a point. Finally done with your thorough handwashing — it’s not nearly as sanitizing as you’d like it to be, but it’s not like there’s a lot more you can do —, you come to stand in front of him.
“Does it hurt a lot?” you ask as you start undoing the bandage. At least working with the military means that the men all know what they’re doing in terms of first-aid.
“Could be worse. I think I just need stitches.”
You’d trust him, if it wasn’t for the fact that you’ve heard him say that about injuries that could have been fatal, had you not been there. In this case, though, you’re relieved to see it does look mostly fine. Whatever attacked him slashed through him, deep enough to be concerning but without actually damaging the muscle or hitting an important artery.
“What happened here?”
“One of the guys tried to take something from a monster,” the Sergeant Kim replies flatly. “I intervened.”
“Oh, it’s good it didn’t turn out worse, then?”
“Not really,” he says with a shrug. “The monster wasn’t violent until disturbed. This could have easily been avoided.”
“Sounds like your boys need a stern talking-to.”
While talking, you go fetch what you need. At least you’ve got everything required for something like stitching someone up, which you can’t say about most other ailments.
“I’ll handle that,” the Sergeant answers from behind you, and you smile. He exudes this quiet strength that you cannot help but be impressed by. His men would follow him to the end of the world and back, if he asked, and you can see why.
“Alright, well, you know the drill,” you tell him, coming back in front of him. “Think you’ll be okay?”
It’s silly to ask, with how often you’ve had to patch him or his men up. You’re well aware of his resistance to pain. Nonetheless, your training requires you ask, even if it’s no surprise when he nods in answer.
“Just go for it.”
You make quick and easy work of the wound. You focus on being fast and efficient rather than on lessening the pain, which you know is for the best with him. It’s not long before you’re setting your tools back down, done with your work. There are a few seconds during which the Sergeant takes the time to relax his jaw, to breathe in a couple of times, and then he nods at you.
“All done?” he asks.
“You’ll need to come back here so I can check on it,” you say. “And try not to put any strain yourself with that arm for a couple days, alright?”
He nods, but you don’t put much faith in that. As a soldier, you’d think he’d be good at following orders and, to be fair, you’ve heard he did an outstanding job most of the time. Unfortunately, your recommendations seemed to fall into deaf ears more often than not.
“Is that all?”
“Sure,” you say, even if his nonchalance exhausts you. “Hope I don’t see you here again for a good while.”
This, at least, brings a smile to his lips, and you try your best to suppress your shiver. He gets up from the table, and stands up, just inches from you. He’s so close, his torso almost brushes against your chest.
“Is that so, Doc?”
Damn that man.
“You know, if you keep this up, I’ll end up thinking you’re landing yourself in here on purpose,” you say.
The smile turns more amused.
“I would never endanger myself on purpose,” he tells you with disarming honesty. “But I’d be lying if I said I minded this kind of flesh wounds all that much these days.”
And before you can tell him just what you think of that, of course, he leans in to capture your lips. It’s not the first time. It doesn’t look like it will be the last time. And you’re in one of the very few rooms in the stadium that can actually lock.
Fuck it, you decide, wrapping your arms around his neck and pulling him closer to you. It doesn’t matter why the two of you play that game together, the people you shared a past with and that are long gone, the fact that this relationship was built on blood. What matters is that in his arms, for however long you get to have him, you forget that the world is doomed.
If him coming back for more over and over again is any indication, so does he.

hope you liked this, it's a little sillier than what i've written for the fandom so far, so that was fun to play with. i don't know if i'll write for other soldiers because most of them... didn't leave me much of an impression as far as their personality goes, but i tried something for sergeant kim ^-^ please consider leaving a comment or reblogging if you're enjoying my writing, interactions are what keep me motivated to write for a fandom!

“Woah!” Eddie said with a laugh, greatly exaggerating his reaction just like he always did, “You can see with these?”
“Yes! Now give them back, i like being able to see.” You quickly snatched your glasses back from his face, carefully cleaning the lenses with your shirt to wipe away the smudges from his fingers.
“Is it really that hard to see without them?” Jeff asked from the other side of the table.
“I mean, it’s not difficult,” You carefully slipped them off of your face and looked around, reading off the few things nearby that you could make out, “I can see the pattern on the table still, and i know that the can across the table says ‘Pepsi’ but i can’t really see much past you guys.” You glanced over their heads and saw one of the few posters hanging on the cafeteria wall for whatever sports event was nearing, “I can’t read what that sign says,” you pointed over to the poster, maybe around 10 feet away, and the boys turned just to see the distance, “i know it’s for some sports thing cause i can make out some kind of ball and i can sort of make out the words ‘varsity’ and ‘friday night’ but that’s really about it.”
“Wow,” Gareth laughed as he turned back in his seat, “you really are blind.”
“Yeah, that’s why i have glasses, dipshit.” You rolled your eyes and placed your glasses back onto your face, blinking a few times as your eyes adjusted back to seeing normally.
You forget how you even got onto this topic, but it always started with Eddie. The amount of times you’ve caught him staring could be counted on both hands, and it always ended up with him making some comment about your glasses. Always poking and prying you with different questions about them. You usually chalked it up to his normal curiosity about everything, always sounding like it was playful teasing but you knew he had the best intentions.
“Do you like them?” Grant asked.
You looked over at him, a bit confused at his question,
“What do you mean?”
“Do you like them?” He said again, “I mean you’ve had them forever, and none of us have them, so we don’t really know what it’s like.”
You thought it over for a moment, shrugging,
“I don’t know. I don’t not like them, if that’s what you’re asking. I’ve had them forever, and they’re kind of a necessity for me, so i haven’t really thought about wether or not i like them.”
“Is there stuff you can’t do?” Jeff asked, his and the other boys’ curiosity getting the best of them, “I mean i know those goggles they make us wear in bio look uncomfortable on you.”
“Yeah, those are definitely one of the downsides to them. And a lot of the times when i open up the oven or the dishwasher they fog up, and it’s the worst when you come inside from the cold cause then they stay foggy for what feels like forever.” You sighed and moved your eyes in a slow circle, following all around the frame, “But i’m used to it all by now. I don’t think i’ve ever had to think about things like that, the ups and downs. It’s just cause it’s all normal to me.”
“I like them.” Eddie piped up, gaining your attention.
“What?” You asked as you looked over to him.
“I like them. Your glasses.” He shrugged and motioned to them, “I don’t know, you just wouldn’t be you without them, you know?”
You shrugged,
“I guess so. I don’t know, sometimes i think about getting rid of them. Getting contacts or something, just so i didn’t always have to feel so different from everyone else.”
“Why would you want to do that?” Gareth asked, “None of us look like everyone else, that’s why we all get along so well.”
“Yeah, that’s true.” You smiled, “I don’t know, i just think it might be nice to not always feel so different…”
Eddie was about to speak, but was quickly cut off by the bell for next period. You and the boys and the rest of the students around you quickly gathered your things, packing up for whatever class you had next. As you sling your bag over your shoulder, you glanced out the window, seeing the clouds in the sky now a deep grey. A storm was coming, and you knew just from the looks of the sky turning grey that it was going to be a bad one.
Eddie heard your groans and quickly picked up his pace to meet you in the hall,
“You alright (y/n)?”
“Yeah,” You sighed and looked out the window again, “you think you’d be able to give me a ride home today? It looks like it’s gonna be a pretty bad storm.”
“Of course, i won’t make you walk home in the rain. Just meet me by the doors after school.”
“Thanks Eds.” You gave him a quick side hug before splitting your paths down the hall, off to your own classes to finish out the rest of the day.
The last of your classes went smoothly, each period you were able to peek out the window to see just how bad the storm was getting. It hadn’t gotten too bad over the course of time, just a dark sky and a sprinkling of rain. But of course, it had to be at its worst when you were finally ready to leave for the day.
Eddie was there at the doors, waiting for you patiently with a smile on his face,
“Hey,” He perked up as you approached him, “ready to make a run for it?”
“I guess so…” You sighed as the two of you braved yourselves for what was about to come.
It was pouring out, so much so that it made it difficult to see past the water running down the glass of the doors. And of course Eddie had to park as far away from the doors as possible.
He took a deep breath and pulled you close, fixing up his jacket to go over his head and moving the side of it to cover you up as much as possible,
“We’ll go together alright?” You nodded and quickly pulled your glasses off of your face, fearing that the mixture of running and the heavy raindrops would make them fall off your face. You blinked a few times to get yourself used to seeing without them, holding onto them tightly in your hand before starting the count.
“Ready? One…” You were dreading having to run outside and get yourself soaked, “Two…” It wouldn’t be a far run, but all you were worried about was making sure you had a tight grip on your glasses, Eddie noticing as he looked down at you and saw the frames missing from your face,
“Got ‘em?” You looked up to him and nodded before Eddie quickly said, “Three!”
He shoved the doors open, and within seconds you could feel the puddles soaking your shoes and pant legs, and Eddie’s jacket wasn’t much help either. Yours and his hair was completely soaked, sopping wet before you were even halfway towards the van. All you could think about was just getting yourselves to shelter, out of the rain, and as soon as you reached the door he quickly opened it for you and helped you inside. Always a gentleman, even in the pouring rain.
You quickly shook your hair out, wiping the water away from your eyes and reaching down into your pocket to put your glasses back onto your eyes but you felt nothing there. In a panic, you search in every pocket you could, not being able to remember when they may have fallen out of your hand or your pocket or wherever it may have been where you lost them. Eddie climbed into the drivers seat, but as soon as he saw your panicked state he knew something was wrong,
“Everything ok? What’s wrong?”
“I can’t find my glasses…” You said quietly, already feeling the tears welling up in your eyes.
You could barely see as is, and now with your glasses gone you didn’t know what to do.
“We’ll find them, don’t worry,” Eddie said, doing his best to reassure you, looking down at the floor of the van to try and spot them, “they’re here somewhere.”
“I think i dropped them outside…” You sniffled, overwhelmed with not knowing exactly what to feel. All you knew was that you were blind and the one thing keeping that from happening was now gone.
Eddie leaned up and looked out the window of the passenger door, a determined look on his face before pulling off his jacket and handing it to you,
“Here, the inside is a little dry, just try and clean yourself up a little ok? You’ll be alright.”
You sniffled again, taking the jacket from him and doing your best to wipe away the droplets on your cheeks. You couldn’t tell if it was rain or tears but at this point it didn’t matter.
Before you could even analyze what was happening, you heard Eddie’s door slam shut again, and when you looked over he wasn’t in his seat. You glanced out the front window and saw that he was back outside, in the pouring rain without his jacket, retracing your steps back towards the door. He was looking all over at the ground, keeping his steps quick and careful as he slowly made his way back towards the doors of the school before leaning down towards the ground and picking something up, moving as quickly as he could back to the van.
You reached over and opened his door for him as he jumped back into the van, now soaking wet from the rain outside. You squinted your eyes in an attempt to see better as Eddie wiped the water out of his eyes before reaching into the back and pulling out one of his old spare shirts, and it looked almost as if he was cleaning something in his lap.
“Are you crazy?! It’s pouring, what did you go back outside for?”
He looked over the object in his hands and he reached over to you, the semi-dry shirt in his hands as he carefully wiped the rest of the water from your eyes, and he carefully slid your glasses back onto your face,
“These are important, i didn’t want to leave without them.”
You blinked a few times to adjust your eyes back and Eddie was completely soaked from head to toe, a bit of water pooling on the seat beneath him,
“You went back outside for them?” Your eyes moved over the frames to check for any damage, but they still seemed to be perfectly fine, save for a few smudges from his shirt on the lenses, “That’s so sweet Eddie, thank you…”
Eddie smiled to you as he tried his best to dry himself off with the shirt in his hands, but he knew he would be waiting a while, especially with his mop of hair still completely soaked. You smiled back at him as you watched him gently scrunch his hair in the shirt,
“You didn’t have to go out in the rain like that, you’re soaked now, i’m sorry.”
“Why are you sorry?” He asked with a laugh, “I know those are important, you need them, and i can’t have you being blind all the time. Then you’d be an even bigger pain in my ass-“ He was cut off by a quick, playful punch to the arm.
“I am not a pain in your ass! You’re a bigger pain in mine from how often you like to steal them and stretch the legs out with your big head.”
“My head is not that big!”
A few laughs were exchanged, followed by a comfortable silence. The dim yellow light of the van, the sound of the rain hitting the sides, the darn atmosphere outside. One might even call it romantic. The thought brought a bit of blush to your cheeks, and you carefully took your glasses off of your face, moving just a bit closer to Eddie,
“You know, i never do get a good look of you in them.” You gently moved a few strands of his wet hair out of the way, carefully sliding your glasses onto his face and keeping yourself close to him to be able to get a proper look how how your glasses looked on him.
He blinked a few times to let his eyes adjust to them,
“How do i look?” He asked with a smirk.
“Good. Not as good as me, but good.” You giggled, “They do make you look a bit smarter.”
“I feel smarter.” He pulled down the sun visor and took a quick look at himself in the small mirror, “You think i can borrow them for when i take that english final?”
“No! I need them to see when i take mine.”
Eddie smiled to you, and though you couldn’t see much, you could see how sweetly he was looking into your eyes. His hand reached up and he gently removed the frames from his face, being sure to keep his careful pace as he turned them and slid them back onto yours,
“I think they look better on you anyways.”
His hand lingered on your cheek and you could feel the way his touch gave you butterflies like no one else had. He was so sweet, so kind, and watching him run back out into the pouring rain just for you was nothing short of romantic. He was being so gentle with you, and though you didn’t notice it at first, your faces were inching closer and closer to each other.
You could almost feel his lips against yours and you just couldn’t take it anymore. The moment was too beautiful to not take advantage of.
Your hand moved up quickly to his cheek, finally pulling his lips to yours and closing the space between you. It was a surprise to you both, but not an unwanted one.
His lips were soft, still slightly wet from the rain, but you never wanted to pull them away from yours. It was so perfect, everything felt so right.
As you slowly pulled back, his hand stayed on your cheek and yours behind his neck, still staying close to one another. Neither one of you was sure what to say, and all you could do was laugh.
It was all you could think to do at the situation.
“Should we do it again?” Eddie asked in between giggles.
“Of course,” You scooted in close to him, your hands moving his wet hair off of his shoulders as your arms pulled him in close, “it’s not weird that we kissed right?”
“If i thought it was weird,” Eddie’s hands moved to your waist, holding you close to him, “i wouldn’t be asking to kiss you again…”
Eddie pulled your body close to his, keeping a firm yet soft grip on your waist as your lips met once more, moving so softly and so sweetly with one another.
It was almost funny, and just the thought of the situation brought a smile to your lips as you kissed him. The whole ordeal seemed like something out of a hollywood movie.
The rain, the gesture, even Eddie reciprocating these feelings that were buried so deep down it felt like magic just to be able to finally express them. He had always given you butterflies but they’d never been like this.
As he slowly pulled his lips from yours, he glanced out the window just past your head, seeing that the rain was nowhere near stopping, and he looked to you once more as his hand brushed the hair from your face,
“I’m starting to dry off a little. Did you want to just sit here for a while? I don’t think we’ve ever really had the chance to just enjoy being with each other…” You could feel the heat rising to your cheeks as he spoke, “And i really like being with you (y/n).”
“I like being with you too Eddie.” Your hands moved from behind his neck to carefully hold his cheeks, moving his face down as your lips gently pressed to his forehead, “I really do.”
Eddie smiled big, and you could tell from the look on his face that he never wanted this moment to end. He adjusted his body on the seat, carefully laying himself out and leaving just enough room for you to squeeze in with him,
“Come here sweetheart,” His arms wrapped tightly around you as you laid with him, your head resting against his chest and your arm moving over his torso to hold him back, one of his arms around your shoulder as the other held your hip, “I want to enjoy this for as long as i can…”
He took a deep breath as he settled in with you, and you carefully adjusted yourself as you tried to find a comfortable position without your glasses pressing into your face. Eddie could feel you trying your best to get comfortable and his hand reached to carefully pull your glasses from your face,
“Here, let’s put these away for right now,” he folded the legs and carefully placed them onto the dashboard, leaning back into his comfortable position and allowing you to move yourself as you pleased, “and i’m putting them right up here so we don’t lose them again.”
You giggled and quickly leaned up, placing a soft kiss to his cheek as your head went back to resting on his chest, his arm moving back around your shoulder as the two of you settled into the comfortable velvet seats. It wasn’t the perfect place for a romantic moment, but that didn’t matter to you.
Eddie liked you for you, terrible eyesight and all, and it was so comforting to know that he would always think you looked better with your so called ‘imperfections’.
You both stared out the front window of the van, watching the rain hit the glass and keeping an eye on the clouds for even the slightest hint of sunlight.
You hated the rain, but wished it would pour all night.

Hot, humid breath fans the back of your neck as someone or something holds you tight. You struggle against the restraint to no avail. Whatever is holding you has canines that nick and poke at the back of your head. You stiffen as you feel hot liquid rolling down your back, unsure if it's sweat or blood. You’re being pushed and dragged by this monster. It’s a familiar forest, a universe away. Claws press into your hips and you cry out as you feel them press through skin and scrape against bone. You wake mid gasp. Nightmare. That was just a nightmare. It had been a while since you thought of that forest. It was a trap. You had no proof but also no doubt. The lack of light seeping through the curtains let you know it is way too early to start your day. So you focus on breathing hoping sleep takes over soon.
When you went to breakfast the next morning you were relieved to find the dining room empty. After last night you didn’t know how to interact with Azriel, having told him things that not even your closest friends from home know. So you eat in silence and try to forget about last night, the nightmare and the dread that threatened to spill over whenever you were undistracted for longer than fifteen minutes.
When you walked into the library Gwyn approached you immediately “Y/n! I’m so glad you are back, yesterday we found something and waiting to tell you has been tortuous” blood drains from your face and you swear your heart stops for a few beats. “What do you mean?” She walks over to a table with at least twenty books sprawled across it. “There is this book that talks about opening portals with a series of symbols, they are extremely intricate and the portal working depends on making the symbols perfectly but it’s totally doable. Then in this book there is a description of different realms that have been accessed by these portals. So, in theory we would just need to figure out which symbols lead to your realm” she finishes and looks at you with the biggest smile you’ve ever seen on a face. “I… that’s incredible Gwyn, thank you”. You are terrified to get excited about the news. If it doesn’t work… But if it does then that means a way home. “Don’t thank us yet, we still have to figure out the combinations for your realm but I think it should be done by the end of the week”. Jesus, that’s soon. You spend the rest of the day in a daze, fetching books, picturing your life back home and coming up with explanations for your absence.
By the time dinner rolls around you are starved. “Oh, hi” Azriel half smiles at you “hello, y/n”. You sit in your usual seat across from him, “I’m starving”, fill your plate and begin eating. “How was your day?” You pause your chewing and look at his eyes for the first time since last night “oh, it was alright” you take a sip of water “Gwyn told me that they found something on portals, I could be going home in a few days”. Telling Azriel you’re leaving was hard, goodbye suddenly on the horizon. He takes a few beats to reply “are you happy to be going back?” Right now, you are regretting everything you told him last night. You take a bite and nod. He continues, trying to fill the silence “I’m not surprised Gwyn found a solution so fast. She’s one of the most talented researchers in the library” you nod again. It was true, Gwyn was brilliant, but you didn't appreciate the jealousy that flashed through your chest. That’s something to unpack later. “How was your day?” He looks a little surprised by the question, having accepted that you weren’t in the mood for conversation “it was… productive. Training was good and I got word from one of the spies on the Continent”. You never know what to say when Azriel talks about his position as Spymaster, he didn’t offer details and you didn’t want to pry. You had a feeling that asking too many questions would make you seem suspicious and since you depend on the mercy of the Night Court for food and shelter you thought minding your business was the prudent thing to do. “I haven’t seen Mor in a while, what’s she up to?” His shoulders relax a bit “she’s in the Court of Nightmares for a few days”. Right. The Court of Dreams and Court of Nightmares dichotomy. “And Cassian?” you try to hide the little smirk that will give away your plan to annoy him. “He’s in Windhaven until tomorrow”. He’s so serious. “And Elain?” “Probably at the River House” “And Lucien?” “Somewhere in the human lands, maybe the Spring Court” “and Amren?” “I actually haven’t seen her since last week”. “What about Eris?” He stills. “How do you know Eris?”. His face hardened at the mention of the heir of Autumn. “He came to talk to Lucien at the Manor, I thought I had mentioned it” “you didn’t”. Pivoting, you ask “Nesta?” He runs his hand through his hair “uhm, tonight is girls night so she’s with Gwyn and Emerie getting drunk and gossiping”. That sounds fun. “You know, I meant what I said about teaching you how to use a knife. I could teach you a few self defense techniques before you go” your mind goes to the knife you’re still keeping in your boot “I’d really appreciate that, Azriel. I’m so tired of being easy prey, I wanna be able to put up a fight”. “Great, meet me here at dawn” he gets up “sleep well” and walks away. Dawn?
You’re tired, but there's too much on your mind. So after dinner you find yourself  at the library where Nesta keeps all of her romances. “I swear Cassian steals my novels and uses the smut as inspiration” their three distinct laughters fill the room. You chuckle as Emerie goes to pour herself wine but Nesta snatches the bottle before and pours a glass for herself. “Do you mind if I crash your girls night?” the Valkyries look at you, not having noticed your presence and you hear an excited “eeek” as Gwyn tackles you. “Beautiful y/n of course you can join us! Here, have some wine” she hands you a glass that’s full to the brim and you take a few healthy sips “we were gossiping about the boys”. Nesta raises her eyebrows “y/n, be careful with that wine, it’s not meant for humans” you gulp. “Oh god, what’s gonna happen to me?” Nesta laughs “nothing, it’s just really strong. Anyway, he thinks I don't notice but last night he basically played out the bath scene from that novel we read last week” all of you giggle “lucky girl” Emerie teases. “What about you, y/n? Any good gossip to share with the group?” You sip the wine, already feeling light headed “not really”. Nesta’s eyes glitter with something you can’t quite place as she says “has anything happened with Azriel?” she wiggles her brows and you choke. Seeing her this playful is unusual and the idea about you and Azriel is so absurd “no, he’s just been a friend” “I’m sure he wants to be more than that…” you shake your head, sipping more wine. “Not even one kiss?” Emerie asks “not even a hug” she frowns “bummer”. You feel pressured to tell them something interesting so you say “you didn’t hear it from me, but I think there’s something going on with Vassa and Jurian”. The hours fly by between the wine, the stories and the speculating. It is almost dawn when you knock on Azriel’s door.
“Y/n?” his sleep laced voice echoes in the hallway.  You hiccup “Azriel there is no way I can train with you”. “You joined girls night” he states “you spied on us?” He crosses his arms across his chest “it’s my job”. “You are just nosy,” he yawns, “can I help you with something?” “I’ve been keeping a secret,” you whisper. The dim hallway conceals the way his face pales at your confession “what do you mean?” You look around, double checking nobody else is here and step closer to him. He’s tall, much taller than you so you grab his shirt and he leans forward to meet you at eye level. He’s pale and stiff as a board as you move your face closer to his, until your lips are just about to touch his ears and in the softest voice he’s ever heard say “I think it was a trap”. He pulls away slightly to look at your face, maybe you’re messing with him. But the worry pouring from your eyes lets him know you are not joking. “I think whoever opened the portal used me to test it out”. He’s wide awake now and your eyes are droopy. “Why do you think that?” You yawn and rub your eyes. “I need to get to bed” he grabs your forearm and asks again “y/n, why do you think that?” Your eyes are basically closing themselves and you mumble “cause, there were no sounds and-” another yawn cuts you off. Azriel straightens up and leads you to your room, he’ll ask more questions tomorrow. He pulls the covers from your bed and you collapse on top of all the decorative pillows. Azriel places the covers over you and lets you sleep.
You feel the pounding in your head before you even open your eyes. After a few minutes you open your eyes and close them again. A couple of more minutes you open them again. It takes a moment to build up the courage to move to a sitting position. Once you do, your gut flips and you bolt to the bathing room, emptying the contents of your stomach. Cold sweat coats your forehead and your back. You sigh, defeated. Slowly, you splash your face with cold water and return to your bed but stop when you see something on your bedside table.  A note, a smokey looking beverage, bread and butter. You pick up the note and admire the precise calligraphy “Drink this tonic for your hangover. The lesson has been moved to after lunch. Meet me on the terrace. Bring the knife. Azriel”. You don’t really remember your conversation from last night but you guess you were drunk enough that Azriel figured you would not be getting up for the lesson. You take a few bites of the bread and sip the concoction and gag at the foul taste. Then, you collapse on the bed, having a few more hours to sleep before your lesson.
You feel much better when you wake up the second time, managing to tie your hair with a ribbon and putting on your old leggings, a fleece tunic and your boots. When you walk onto the terrace you shiver. The wind lets you know that Autumn has fully set in. “Good morning” the shadow singer greets with a teasing smirk. “Thank you for the provisions” you approach him, rubbing your arms for warmth “maybe we could have the lesson in an ice box, it would be less windy”. “You have to be prepared for the elements, y/n. Where’s the knife?” You pull it from your boot “right here” and wave it around, pretending to attack him. “So, the first thing to know is to not wave it around like that” he’s serious now. I hate when he gets all monotone. “Let’s start by seeing what you would do if you were immobilized”. Fast as lightning he lunges towards you and grabs you, pinning both arms to your sides. You shriek, not expecting that “Azriel this is ridiculous” he doesn’t let up “didn't Lucien drag you across an entire forest while you tried to get away?” You huff “that’s not fair, I would have gotten free but he knocked me against a tree”. “You were too slow, you have to learn to react on instinct. Now, try to get away” you swear he gripped you even tighter. You begin to thrash, trying to headbutt him, biting, scratching, pinching, screaming, but nothing works. Until you begin to kick your legs wildly and knee his groin. He groans and his hold on you falters for a second. You bring your hands to his chest and push him away while ducking. It’s messy but you get away. Until a calloused hand grabs your shoulder and your back meets his chest again only this time there's a blade pressed to your neck. “And then you’re dead” you roll your eyes “I think I did a great job” he lets you go and you immediately miss his warmth “I think we have a lot of work to do”. You stay on the terrace until nightfall and by the end of the lesson you are able to use the knife, more or less.
You’re walking towards the dining room when Azriel asks “do you remember what you told me last night?” Oh god what did I say? “No, things got hazy half way through Gwyn’s story about some ribbon cutting ceremony… or something to that effect”. He stops walking and lowers his voice “you told me you think the portal was a trap, is that true?” Your throat goes dry and you nod. “I’m sorry I woke you up for that, it’s just a thought I had” he insists “why?” You let out a breath and explain your reasoning. The dead air, the lack of life around the circle, the mist that caged you in and the feeling of being watched. He nods, taking all of it in. You feel embarrassed. He probably thinks I’m crazy. “I’ll contact my spies to see if they’ve seen anything recently” you appreciate it, you really do but you can’t go down this spiral again “can we talk about this tomorrow? I’m starving”. You reach the dining room and are greeted by the smell of food and Nesta and Cassians conversation. “Y/n! Glad to see you on two feet, Nesta was worried you died after last night” you roll your eyes and sit down. “How did you feel today?” Nesta asked “I threw up when I woke up but Azriel left me a drink that helped with the hangover” you pretend you don’t notice Nesta’s raised brows.
The following morning you return to the library and see Gwyn writing notes in a notebook. “Hi Gwyn”. “Oh, hi y/n.” she doesn’t look up “I’m copying the symbols we think might lead to your realm. If you’d like we can try it out right now, we just need to find an open space and some paint”  A few minutes later she finishes and frowns when she sees your expression “what’s wrong?” “Do you think this could actually work?” She looks unsure “maybe”.

𝐁𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐠𝐢𝐫𝐥 • 𝐣𝐨𝐞𝐥 𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐫
Summary: hello! I saw your post about wanting to write Joel Miller smut while scrolling through the Pedro Pascal tag. I would like to request something if that’s okay? Could I request something where it’s the readers b-day and she tells no one cause she hates it but Joel finds out and wants to help celebrate her birthday by giving them the best sex of readers life and he basically treats reader like a goddess. I just kind of imagine them having sex everywhere the whole day of readers birthday. Fluff can also be included if you want. I imagine it’s at the beginning of their relationship.
Tumblr media
GENRE: smut, fluff
WARNING: NSFW, intercourse (protected, cursing, during the outbreak, Ellie's in it at the beginning,
PAIRING: Joel Miller x f reader
Request or not: yes
AUTHOR NOTE: didn't proofread because I'm lazy but yeah
Enjoy
Ever since the outbreak started Your birthday always was irrelevant to you. Each year, due to the constant threat all around you, you always let the day slip bye like sand through your fingers. There was no reason for you to celebrate; you were only getting older anyways.
Even after getting to Jackson you didn’t care much to tell everyone. The only person you told was Ellie, a kid you meet along the way with a guy named Joel who eventually became the love of your life. You thought maybe Ellie would forget all about your birthday but she didn’t.
You woke up bright and early to do your usual things around town. Joel and Ellie stayed home getting themselves breakfast before their day got started.
Ellie sat at the table eating her cereal while Joel Waite for his coffee to finish brewing.
“What are you going to get for y/n today?” Ellie asked. Joel turned to her, a confused look as to what Ellie was even asking.
“what do you mean?”
“Todays her birthday.” Ellie frowned. “don’t tell me you forgot her birthday.
Joel stood there confused. In his short time of knowing you it never dawned on him to ask when your birthday even was.
“She’s never told me.”
Ellie gasped dramatically. The spoon that was in her hand falling onto the table with a loud cling. “wow talk about couple goals.” She laughed. “well now you know and now you have to surprise her. Make this the best birthday of her life.”
Ellie stood up and brought her bowl over to the skin. “im going to be gone for the rest of the day so that gives you time to do whatever you want.”
Ellie smirked at Joel causing him to groan. “alright enough.”
Ellie released a laugh before walking out of the kitchen, grabbing her coat and leaving Joel there.
Joel was a little upset that you didn’t tell him today was your birthday, but he didn’t have time to think about that. He needed to make today a special day for you, one that you’ll remember.
--
When you returned back home after running some errands you were surprised by how abnormally quiet it was. Usually Ellie or Joel would be arguing about something loudly but not today.
“Joel? Ellie?” you called out as you shut the door. You pulled off your outside clothes before walking further into the house.
As you stepped around the corner the kitchen came into view. You gasped at the sight. There was lit candles on the dinning room table, dinner sitting their and a cake which seemed like it was just made.
“you like it?”
You turned towards the stairs to see Joel standing there. He had his arms crossed and a soft smile on his face.
“Yeah. I love it.”
Joel walked over to you and placed a kiss on your lips before hugging you.
“how’d you know what today was?”
You pulled away looking up at Joel. “Ellie told me. I’m just a little confused why you didn’t tell me either.”
You sighed. “I don’t know.. I just didn’t think today was really important anymore cause the outbreak you know.” You avoided Joel’s eyes feeling a little guilty from keeping the information from him.
“Hey.” Joel took your face and his hand and forced your eyes on his brown ones. “your birthday is very important to me even if we were out there with a million brainless, virus carrying zombies, it still special to me.” Joel ran his thumb over your cheek. “but we’re not out there now So let’s celebrate it. Just you and me.”
Joel took your hand bringing you over to the table. “no Ellie?”
“No.” Joel muttered as he pushed your seat in before settling in his own across from you.
“She wants just me and you today. She didn’t request we leave her a slice of cake though.”
You laughed.
You and Joel began to chat and eat the meal Joel surprisingly prepared for you all by himself.
Many many laughs and smiles were shared between you two throughout dinner. It felt nice to enjoy your time with Joel without an interruptions or threats around you both.
After you finished up eating, you grabbed the dishes and went to put them in the sink. While you were hovering over the sink rinsing the dishes, Joel came up behind you. His hands snaked around your waist and his lips on your neck.
“You know we have the house all to ourselves and it’s your birthday.”
You bite your lip to hide a moan that was threatening to escape. The heat between your legs grew more and more as you felt his lips on you. You wanted Joel so badly.
“Take me up stairs Joel.” You practically demanded turning in his arms. Joel didn’t need to hear those words twice. Without effort he picked you up and tossed you over his shoulders. He made his way over to the stairs, climbing them before reaching the bedroom.
You were tossed on the bed making you yelp. “wow! You’re already rough.” You joked with a smirk on your face. Joel rolled his eyes as he hovered over you.
His hungry lips found yours ripping that smirk right off your face. You began making work at Joel’s belt because you were so desperate to have him in you. This would be the third time you’ve ever had sex with Joel.
The first time you both had sex it was because you ran your mouth to Joel one night in a safe house about how you’ve been a virgin your whole life. While Ellie was fast asleep in the other room he was busy slamming you into a mattress, trying his best to keep you quiet. That was when you knew your relationship was more than friends. He soon asked you to be his.
The second time was when you arrived in Jackson. The fact you were in a safe place was a cause for celebration so you and Joel spent the night between the sheets.
After that you both haven’t touched each other for two months until now. With how busy you both were in the town it made it hard to have sex, but now you were together uninterrupted. You were so fucking ready to have him inside of you.
“you’re so desperate.” Joel muttered when he pulled away from your lips. His lips were red and swollen making you smirking. “yeah of course I am when it comes to you Joel.”
“well let’s get these clothes off of you so we can satisfy you.” Joel whispered against your lips as his hands snaked under your shirt groping your breast.
You and Joel began to strip all your clothes away. One by one everything was removed until you both were completely bare.
You laid on the bed as Joel sat between your legs slipping a condom on. A small shiver ran down your spine as you looked at how big Joel was. You definitely aren’t used to his size even after those past two times.
“you ready birthday girl?” Joel asked taking your thighs in his large hands. All you could do was nodded as you looked in Joel’s eyes.
Joel eyes never left yours while he took his cock and ran it between your fold. You moaned softly, but it was soon replaced by a louder one when he pushed into your tight cunt.
Joel held your hips as he slowly thrust into you. “so tight doll.” Joel hissed.
“Joel, please move baby.” You begged.
Joel listened, pulling his hips before slamming right back into you. The moans you had went from quiet to loud really quickly. The room filled with your sounds of pleasure as Joel fucked you senseless.
“shit. Joel. You feel so good!” you brought your hand to Joel’s face pulling him into a kiss.
With how big Joel was you could feel him in your stomach with every thrust. It made your toes curl and your back arch off the bed.
“Going to make you cum huh baby.”
“please Joel.” You whined. Truly you didn’t know what you were saying please for but you didn’t care. The feeling was too good to care.
Joel grunted as he felt you grow tighter and tighter around him. You were close and he was determined to make you cum.
His thumb found your clit, he drew circles around the swollen bud. your were moaning loudly at this point.
A few more quick circles around your bundle of nerves, you were coming.
A string of curse words and breathless spilled from your lips as you saw stars. Joel didn’t stop his thrust until your high fell.
You let out a small whimper when Joel pulled out of you.
“Fuck. That felt amazing.”
Joel laid down on the right side of you. “yeah?”
“Uh huh.”
“yeah well I’m not Done.” Joel took your right leg propping it up. “today is your birthday. Gotta make it the best birthday ever.”

Taking A Break
Words: 1,794
Warnings: None
This is my first Supernatural fic!! I started the show a few months ago and I'm on season 15 now (lord help me) Hope you guys enjoy <3
This is all entirely platonic, I do not ship wincest. Do not tag it as such. Wincest shippers do NOT interact with this post.
This was inspired by this absolutely adorable fanart by @carrie-tate . Go show her some love!! His work is incredible :D
This is a SFW tickle fic, if you don’t like that then don’t read :)
Now, Sam wanted to go on record to say that he was grateful for Dean being his big brother. He had looked up to him ever since he was a kid, trying to be just like Dean - having a strong heart and an even stronger sense of loyalty. Where their dad had failed in their youth, Dean had picked up the shattered pieces left behind and made Sam's childhood as good as it could be. He'd sacrificed everything for Sam, and he'd do it again in a heartbeat. Hell, Dean had practically said those words himself.
Sam was lucky to have Dean. He knew that.
However, right now, he really, really wanted to be anywhere but stuck in a motel room with his big brother.
“Stay away from me, you dick!”
“C’mon Sammy, you can’t seriously still be ticklish can you?”
“I said stay away!”
Sam’s face was split into a wide, nervous grin, shifting his weight from foot to foot on his side of the dining table the motel room had. Dean was almost entirely leaning over the damn thing, a toothy smile on his face with that same spark in his eyes Sam had often seen when they were kids. He honestly didn’t know what spurred Dean into such a playful mood, and he knew what was surely coming along with it.
“We were in the middle of researching!” protests Sam, trying to divert Dean’s attention to the more important task of hunting the latest creature of carnage.
Dean merely scoffs. “Nope. You were researching and acting like you had a stick up your ass, I’m simply helping you balance work and living.”
“The work kinda is our life, Dean-”
“And there you go again.” Dean sighs impatiently. “Could you liven up at least a little? The motel room feels even sadder than usual when you get broody.”
Dean suddenly lunged around the table and advertently kicked Sam’s fight or flight into overdrive, a rather undignified squawk leaving the younger man’s mouth in fear of the speed his brother tore around the furniture. He bolted around the table to stop at the opposite side, mirroring his brother, who was grinning even wider.
“Stohop!” Sam pleads, a breathless laugh weaseling into his words and only egging Dean on more.
“Why? You’re laughing, aren’t you? That’s good!”
“Dean, I am going to kill you,” Sam swears, trying to look serious - but with his anticipatory smile and bright eyes, it was difficult to seem threatening.
Dean snorts. “Uh-huh, sure.”
Then, with the engrained speed of a trained hunter, Dean fakes out a fast step to the right and causes Sam to take off to the left around the table - straight into Dean’s awaiting trap. Realising his error immediately, Sam yelps and tries to backpedal in a panic, but Dean leaps forward and wrestles him onto the carpet before he can even hope to escape.
“Goddamnit!”
Sam’s outraged shout only made Dean laugh harder. “You gotta stop falling for that, Sammy,” he comments playfully, grabbing his little brother’s swinging arm and forcing it to the floor. In a split second, Sam’s yells of annoyance morphed into fast-paced pleads as he registered being pinned.
“No- no, Dean, listen- I’ll take a break, okay? I’ve been a stick in the mud, and whatever else you think. We’ll go out and get a drink somewhere. Sound good? Great. Fantastic. Now lemme up.”
Dean smirks in amusement as Sam bargained like a crossroads demon desperate to get a sale - paired with a nervous grin and hands held up in defense. As he pauses to take a breath between his rambled offers, Dean hums, effectively making Sam stop short.
“Tempting offer, but I think we'll both be entertained by this, bud.”
With the hand not holding his brother's wrist captive, he starts to poke along Sam's midriff, grinning when his younger sibling flinches away from it with a strangled noise.
"Dean!"
"Mhm?" Dean hums innocently, delighting in every involuntary jerk and muffled squeak Sam gave at the light prodding.
"Cut it out." Sam hisses through tightly pressed lips, eyes crinkling with his wobbly grin as he fruitlessly tried to avoid Dean's probing fingers.
Dean almost looked offended. "Cut it out? Dude, I haven't done this to you in years. Let a big brother be nostalgic."
Then, without any warning, he quickly squeezed at Sam’s sides, causing a shrill yelp to suddenly pierce the air. Sam dissolves into fits of laughter instantly, wriggling on the carpet in his mirth from childhood instinct.
“Aaaa~nd there it is," Dean snorts, his unforgiving nails digging into Sam's side and delighting in the familiar hiccuping giggles pouring from his brother's mouth. Even after all these years, his laugh hadn't changed a bit. "Always gonna be a little brother."
Sam's legs flailed wildly, shoes scuffing the floor in a repetitive motion to not kick Dean in the back. Though it was growing tempting the longer his big brother kept scratching at his damn sides.
"Dehehehean!" He protests through tumbling laughter, pressing an arm against Dean's chest to shove him away, but he hadn't grown out of his childhood habits. His strength was being sapped by the tingling sensation plaguing his body.
Dean notices and chuckles fondly. "What? Got something you wanna say, little brother?"
"Ihihim twehehenty fohohour!"
"And yet here you are on the floor giggling like a child. Something doesn't add up here, Sammy."
While his hand journeyed to squeeze up and down Sam's ribs, causing the man to be honest-to-god squeak in laughter, Dean got a rather mean idea. He lifts his hand above Sam, wiggling his fingers, and instantly, Sam curls into himself with wide eyes. The hand pressed against Dean's chest swiped out to snatch up the older man's wrist.
"Nonononono- nohoho Dehehean!" He pleads, his bright laughter unbridled in a way Dean hadn't heard in far too long. "Nohohot thahat!"
"Aww, why not? You loved this growing up."
Sam's face burns with warmth, suddenly glad he was already flushed from laughing, because he knew Dean wouldn't let him live that reaction down. "Ihihi dihidn't!"
"Liar, liar, Wendigo on fire," Dean scoffs, prodding Sam's stomach with his free hand and smirking as the man did his best impression of a folding chair, his giggles melding with snorts. With little difficulty, he tugs his wrist from Sam's grip and returns to the wiggling motion above his little brother.
Sam's nervous giggles increased as Dean kept his hand suspended, watching with wary eyes as it seemed to circle above like a vulture. Though, with Sam's eyes locked to the overhead threat, he didn't see the second wave coming until there was a sudden flurry of feather light touches ghosting over his neck.
"W-Wahahait! Crahahahap!" Sam squeaks helplessly, shoulders rocketing to his ears to block Dean's fingers from tormenting the soft spot. It had been a favorite of Jessica's when she wanted to mess with him - a delicate kiss or soft fingernails were enough to make him fold into himself in seconds. It was something she had used against him constantly when they were dating.
"Dehean!" Sam whines, pressing his head against his shoulders alternatively when his older brother starts targeting his ears.
Dean's heart melted slightly at Sam's childish noises, his smirk slipping into a fond grin without him realising. "Did you get more ticklish since you left for Stanford?" he asks, half teasing - half genuinely curious as he sneaked a few fingers into the gaps of Sam's top ribs, dangerously close to his underarms that were ridiculously sensitive.
Sam instantly jack-knifed in reflex, an embarrassing yelp pulling from his throat as he tried to protect his infamous soft spot. "Nohot thehere, Dehehehean! Uhuncle!" He cries out, half rolling onto his side and swatting at Dean's hands that place gentle pokes up and down his ribcage. As much as he was enjoying messing around with Dean, he wasn't sure he could handle that spot being tormented.
Thankfully, Dean hears the weary notes in Sam's voice from laughing so much. He chuckles fondly and pulls his hands away from the sensitive skin, observing his little brother, who is becoming one with the floor. The younger man gulps air into his worn-out body, holding his stomach that was slightly aching from laughter.
"J-Jesus," he gasps, wiping at his eyes that had gathered moisture from mirth. "That was brutal."
"Be grateful I didn't actually go for your worst spots," Dean snickers, "think we would've got a noise complaint with your screaming."
Sam kicks Dean's shin with his signature 'resting bitch face', but the lingering smile on his lips took away the effect. "Jerk," he grumbles.
"Bitch," Dean says right back with a warm grin.
He starts to get up from his crouched position on the floor, when Sam suddenly grabs his arms and yanks him straight back down, rolling Dean onto his back smoothly with practiced form. Dean's grunt of alarm was cut off by his own high-pitched shriek as it felt like electricity bolted through his hips.
"Don't think I've forgotten about your weakness too, Dean," Sam laughed, his thumbs making quick work in reducing Dean to nothing but a ball of loud laughter.
"Y-YOHOU DIHICKHEHEAD!" Dean yells out through hearty laughter, twisting on the floor for escape, but Sam wasn't giving him an out. He'd forgotten how quickly Sam could recover from these attacks.
"Sure, I'm the dickhead for getting revenge on you when you attacked me first," Sam rolls his eyes, then shifts his thumbs to massage along the tops of Dean’s hip bones. The older man throws his head back with a screech that could raise the dead, kicking his legs out and arms desperately trying to shove Sam away.
“Christ, Dean, you're the one that's gonna get us the noise complaint if you keep that up,” Sam snickers, yet he didn’t shift from that little bundle of nerves that was making Dean shriek with laughter.
Dean couldn’t formulate a snappy comeback. Instead, he just smacked Sam wherever he could reach in retaliation. Was it a well-thought-out counterattack? No, absolutely not, but it was better than doing nothing.
The motel room was filled with Dean's bright laughter for a good while, after all Sam had a retaliation mission to complete and years' worth of revenge to cash in. Though Dean didn't make it easy for him, managing to reverse their roles a few times throughout the ordeal - knowing how to take Sam down from growing up together.
The research lay abandoned on the table for the rest of the afternoon, ignored by the brothers duking it out - curses and laughter thrown around the room. The monster of the week could wait a little while longer. The boys deserved the break.

got tagged by @ocontraire to post a snippet from a current wip, so here's a snippet from the landoscar fake married au (yeah no you didn't misread that they do actually pretend to be married in this fic. by actually getting married. its a long story)
tagging @eisenberg @charlescoded @fueledbyremembering @celientjeee :)))
A clattering noise from somewhere in the apartment shakes Lando out of his thoughts and he lifts himself out of his chair, putters towards the kitchen, where Oscar is putting the last of the groceries away.
He’s taken off his suit jacket and tie, and rolled up the sleeves of his dress shirt. He’s run a hand through his hair so it’s not sticking in every which direction anymore, and he’s taking off his dress shoes, moving through the kitchen in a pair of race car patterned socks Lando got him for his birthday this year.
“Hey,” he says, when Lando appears in the doorway. “Did you think about what you wanted for dinner yet? I have chicken, so I can make you that pasta dish you like, or maybe some kind of wrap? I think I have an avocado in here somewhere, I can make some Guac.” Oscar riffles through the bag as he talks, and emerges holding an avocado, sending Lando a triumphant smile.
Lando raises an eyebrow at him. The smile turns into a frown. “Absolutely not,” Oscar says. “Lando. I got all these groceries!” Lando wiggles his eyebrows at him. “No. Come on. Pick a dish.” Oscar brandishes the avocado at him like that’s somehow going to change his mind.
It isn’t. Lando pouts at him. “Please?” He says, because he’s not above playing dirty to get what he wants.
There’s a stalemate, a moment of silence where Oscar just glares at him, avocado still in hand. Then he sighs, very deeply, and puts the avocado in the fruit bowl on the corner of the counter. “Fine. But I get to pick the restaurant. And we’re eating an actual home cooked meal tomorrow.”
“Yeah, yeah,” Lando says, waving vaguely in Oscar’s direction as he takes his phone out of his pocket and opens the UberEats app. “Okay, pick. No fish.”
Oscar rolls his eyes as he starts packing the rest of his groceries away. “Don’t worry, way ahead of you. I was thinking that Italian place? With the breadsticks.”
Lando, who was only a little nervous about Oscar’s restaurant choice, perks up. “I love breadsticks,” he says, scrolling through the app.
“I know,” Oscar says, moving past Lando to put some stuff in the fridge. “How was your mum, by the way?”
Lando groans as he drops down at their little kitchen table, sprawling himself over the surface. “Ever since cousin Cecilia’s wedding she’s gotten it in her head that I need to get married to live like, a happy satisfied life. So she keeps pestering me about it, about how I need to find a nice boy to settle down with.”
Oscar makes a ‘hm’ noise. “But you don’t want to,” he says, head mostly buried in their snacks cupboard as he tries to make everything fit.
“It’s just annoying, that she can’t see I’m happy the way I am right now, you know? I have enough money to do whatever I want, I have the apartment, I have you,” he snorts. “Maybe I should just marry you. That would surely get my mom of my back.”
There’s a clattering noise as a packet of Oreo’s tries to make a break for it and hits Oscar square in the nose, making him stagger back a little with a strangled noise. Lando laughs, and picks his phone back up, scrolling through the options of the restaurant.
“Yeah,” Oscar says, when he’s retrieved the packet of Oreo’s from the floor. He opens his mouth to say something else, maybe, but Lando interrupts him, waving his phone around. “Let me guess,” he says. “You want the Chicken parm?”
“Hm, yeah, sure,” Oscar says, but he seems distracted, deep in thought. He does that sometimes, where he gets so entangled in his own brain that he barely registers what’s going on around him. Usually it’s right before he makes a breakthrough on something for work. Lando decides to leave him to it and orders the chicken parm.
And extra breadsticks.

03. "Do you like cinnamon?"
Callie is sitting on the entryway bench, lacing her boots, when a thump catches her attention. It’s not the dog, she thinks as she watches Rupert pad toward the noise, his nails clicking across the wood floors. Finishing the knot on her right boot, she peers down the hall, trying to figure out if Kelly is awake or if it’s Emma trying to steal treats again.
“God- fuck!”
The breathless cursing lets her know it’s not the cat making all the noise but, in fact, the human she married. She walks into the kitchen to find her wife sitting at the breakfast nook table, hunched over and breathing hard.
“Kelly? What’s wrong? Can you breathe?”
“Yeah.” Callie isn’t convinced by the way she gasps the word, something Kelly notices because she grabs the edge of Halo’s flight suit before 911 can be dialed. “Couldn’t reach the oatmeal, and it took it out of me. Just need a minute.”
Immediately, she feels guilty. Kelly had a chemotherapy session two days ago, and treatment always exhausts her, but Callie had been so busy at work that Aliyah had been staying at the house to help out. She hadn’t even been thinking about how it was day three, the day when Kelly’s appetite usually returns.
You should have known. It’s been four months of this. Are you even paying attention?
Callie continues to berate herself as she rubs Kelly’s back; it doesn’t do anything to help her catch her breath, but it makes Callie feel like she’s doing something. Like she’s actually helping.
That’s been one of the worst parts of this. The worst obviously is Kelly getting diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer, but the constant helpless feeling. She’s not a doctor or a nurse; she’s just a WSO. The Navy's basic medical training can’t do anything to help against mutating cells. She can’t do anything to help the woman she married.
“Okay, other than the breathing, how do you feel? Dizzy? Sore?”
Kelly shakes her head, “Just need to catch my breath. Hungry, though.”
“Yeah? That’s good. You still want oatmeal? Or I can make something else? Whatever you want.”
“You’re going to be late to work.”
“It’s okay. I just texted Mav that everything is fine, but I’m going to be a bit late.”
Kelly’s head pops up, her brown eyes wide with concern and much clearer than when she got back from the treatment center, Callie notes with relief. “You can’t do that!”
“Yes, I can. Mav understands.” Callie adjusts the brown beanie Kelly had chosen to keep her shaved head warm, centering the little cow before pressing a soft kiss to her forehead. “You’re a little warm; you sure you feel okay?”
“Yeah… tired.” Kelly hums, leaning into the hands cupping her face, both of them enjoying the closeness of the moment. They linger, not pulling away until a rumbling stomach interrupts them.
Callie reluctantly pulls away. “Still gonna take your temperature, just to make sure. You want oatmeal?”
Efficient movements get her from the bathroom to the breakfast nook to the kitchen in record time. Pulling the jar of rolled oats from the baking cabinet and measuring everything out as the water starts to heat up. If she’s going to make oatmeal, she’s going to do it on the stove. It’s best to save the microwavable stuff for when Kelly needs to make food herself.
The thermometer beeps, and it’s a relief to see it says 99.5° - slightly elevated but consistent with the other treatment sessions.
“Do you like-” Callie cuts herself off as she catches sight of the wedding photo that was put on the fridge the week after they got married.
It’s the two of them from five months ago, standing in front of the chapel. A smiling Callie is dipping a grinning Kelly, who hadn’t lost her hair yet, both of them laughing at some dumb joke Fritz had made while Aliyah took the photo.
They agreed it was their favorite photo from the day, easily choosing that one to use as the photo on their announcement cards. It was harder to decide on what to write inside the cards. How much of the truth to share.
Hi everyone! We know this is sudden, but we got married in Vegas last weekend! Turns out Kelly has cancer, and her insurance is total shit, so Callie proposed to her pet-sitter-turned-friend after knowing her for less than a year so she doesn’t die! We’re sorry we didn’t let everyone know, but we’re actually committing insurance fraud, so we’re just trying to make it look like a whirlwind love story! Thankfully, we’re lesbians, so no one questioned us hitching the U-Haul to Kelly’s Subaru for our third date! And now to answer the unasked questions! No, we didn’t register anywhere; we feel guilty enough as it is! Kelly’s prognosis looks good; they caught it early, and she’ll be able to get good treatment with Callie’s Tricare coverage! We’re just friends! We sleep in different rooms! But if anyone official asks, we share Callie’s bedroom because it has an ensuite, and Kelly’s room is the guest room. It’s not suspicious because she’ll need space after chemo treatments! Yes, we kissed when the Elvis impersonator said; no, you cannot see the photo. Don’t worry about sending stuff for our first anniversary; we’ll probably be divorcing by then!
They had gone with something very different on the massive stack of announcements they sent out. The newly married couple spending the week traditionally reserved for a honeymoon filling out piles of paperwork to get Kelly coverage as quickly as possible, telling friends the truth, and asking them to lie if questioned by investigators. The worst had been filling out the envelopes, the sober mood turning more and more sour by the second as they realized how many people they were lying to.
Despite the bad taste it left in her mouth, Callie didn’t care. Kelly only had a few more treatment sessions left, and at her last checkup, the oncologist was optimistic about the progress. It’s not how she had imagined getting married, but her friend was going to live, and that was the important part.
“What were you gonna say?”
“Oh!” Callie blinks, grabbing an egg from the fridge and checking on the oatmeal to stall. To shake away the thought that she barely knows anything about the woman she married. About the woman she was going to ask out before the diagnosis came down. “I was gonna add a little brown sugar and cinnamon. Do you like cinnamon?”
“I do, that sounds good.”
Callie nods, distracted as she scrambles the egg and fancies up the oatmeal. She feels guilty for enjoying moments like this. Where she gets to spend time with Kelly, take care of her, but they don’t happen very frequently. Even being married doesn’t get her much quality time with the woman she’s had a crush on for months.
“Here you go. Oatmeal and a scrambled egg - for protein - with your meds as an appetizer. And I moved the microwave food down to the counter for now. We’ll reorganize the cabinets this weekend so everything is easier to reach.”
“Yum.” Kelly grimaces at the medication, but her face smooths out as she gets a whiff of the food. “This smells great, Callie. Thank you.”
“Of course, any time. Aliyah is going to stop by later. And let me know what you want from the store; I’m stopping after work today.”
“Okay, have a good day.”
“Thanks, Kel.” Callie murmurs as she ducks down to kiss her wife’s forehead. “Call me or Mav if you need something, okay? He’ll take care of it if I’m in the air. I’ll see you tonight.”
Callie forces herself to leave, only looking back once to see Kelly digging into the oatmeal. Her heart softening at the sight of the dog by her feet and the cat curled up on her lap, wishing she didn’t have to go to work.
Maybe I’ll finally get to ask her out for real after we get divorced.

Close to 900 words of the start to the Buckingham A League Of Their Own AU I talked about the other day; Chrissy’s POV
(I’m hoping to start posting some bits and pieces from this AU here under this tag #buckinghamaloto - there will be some Steddie and gen stuff, too, but I’ll just use that tag as a catchall)
There are two letters sitting on the table in front of Chrissy. One is from Jason, half of it blacked out, but there’s enough visible telling her he'll be home soon, and they can finally get married. It's creased, the paper soft from being opened up and folded again, over and over. It should have been the best letter she's ever received and, while she's happy that Jason is safe, all she thought when she read the letter is that when he comes back they'll get married and have children, and she'll probably never leave this town, and that's all she'll ever do. All she'll ever be.
The other letter is in her own hand, written to her parents, explaining how she's gone to Chicago to try out for the new women's professional baseball league, and she's sorry she didn't tell them, but she didn't think they'd understand.
Well, she hasn't gone yet. She just... Maybe this is a terrible idea. Maybe she'd be ruining her life if she goes. The scout seemed confident she has what it takes, but what if she doesn't make it? What if she's burning all her bridges?
And what if this is what she's been waiting for her whole life?
She twists the engagement ring on her finger, biting her lip, then slips it off, setting it down by her letter, but she still doesn't move. Her mom will be so mad. And that's the thing that makes her stand. She can't spend another minute here. She won't. She looks at the clock and her heart leaps.
The train leaves in fifteen minutes and it's a twenty minute walk to the station. She grabs the suitcase by her feet and heads for the door. She's going to do this. It's going to be okay.
At the last moment, she goes back for the ring and stuffs it in her pocket.
Chrissy's feet pound the dirt, the impact juddering up her shins into her knees as she runs faster and harder than she ever has. She nearly trips when the lace of one of her saddle shoes comes undone, and she curses the seconds it takes to do it back up. But she's up and on her feet as soon as it's tied, the suitcase clutched in one hand banging against her leg, her hat flapping, barely held on by the pin threaded through her hair, her heart pounding harder than her feet. She has to make it. She has to.
She gets to the station moments before the train is scheduled to leave, sweating and out of breath, her hat askew. Someone she knows calls out to her, but she ignores them, jumping up onto the train and handing over her ticket.
A few eyebrows are raised her way as she moves through the car to her seat, but she doesn't care. She's here. She made it.
Out the window, the scenery blurs past, dizzying; Chrissy's blood tingles as the train carries her away toward whatever awaits.
Baker Field is teeming with other women, all in baseball uniforms, talking in groups, throwing balls or practicing their swing. There's a nervous energy in the air, but it's tinged with excitement. Exactly how Chrissy feels.
She tugs on her uniform and wonders if she should have styled her hair differently. Maybe the poodle bangs are too much? She doesn't usually bother when she plays ball, but sometimes she feels better when she does herself up a bit. The hair, the makeup, it’s all another layer between her and the world.
She looks around. Some of the other women are dolled up, and plenty aren't. Maybe she fits in fine after all. And she's not the only one alone, at least. She wanders around, while she's waiting, smiling at the other women, getting some smiles back, and a few dark looks too.
She shrugs them off, feeling a little lost. And then a ball comes whizzing toward her and she catches it in her bare hand. “Wow.” She shakes her hand out, wincing at the sting at the same time she relishes it.
"Oh gosh, I'm so sorry," someone says, "I usually have better aim than that, honest," and then there's another woman standing in front of her. She's got mousy hair, worn straight, cropped short, and freckles all over her face. "I mean, I'm actually a catcher, but I pitch okay. I mean I have to. Usually." She twirls her hair around her finger. "Sorry. Again."
"That's okay," Chrissy says. She hands the ball over. "No harm done."
"No." The woman—she's wearing a green and orange uniform emblazoned with Hawkins Tigers—shifts her weight. "Um..."
"I'm Chrissy," Chrissy says, thrusting out her hand. "Cunningham."
"I— I'm Robin," the other woman says, taking Chrissy's hand and shaking it. "Buckley." She bites her lip. “I should, um…”
“Do you want to practice a bit before the tryouts start?” Chrissy asks.
“Oh, sure… If you want. I mean, I'm here alone, and I guess you are, too, so... Uh, yeah. If you want to.”
"I want to,” Chrissy says. She smiles and, when Robin smiles back, her pulse does this funny little skip. Their hands are still clasped, so Chrissy slowly withdraws hers, a strange warmth flowing through her. It's pretty warm out. That would explain it. Only...
"Are you ready?" Robin asks. "If you still want to..."
"Yeah," Chrissy says, "of course," and slips her hand into her mitt. “I’m ready.”

Eddie had finally pushed Jason to his breaking point. He’d been on his usual spiel criticizing the social hierarchy when Jason stood from his table and snapped, “All of this philosophical bullshit is coming from the guy who couldn’t pass English to save his god forsaken life. Come on, Munson, you’re damn near twenty and still in high school. When are you gonna stop spewing shit and buckle down and study?”
Eddie’s facade faltered for a moment, but was instantly replaced with a shit-eating grin. “Looks like I’ve struck a nerve, Carver! What a rare outburst of emotion! Aside from your daily Shakespearean love confessions to your girlfriend and your presidential candidate speeches in the middle of school functions, of course.”
Jason laughed humorlessly, irritation visible through his now red cheeks. “At least I act like I love my girl, all I’ve ever seen of you and Yn is her sitting at your side at your little circus show over there, like a dog. Maybe I’m not well-versed in freak etiquette, but I’m pretty sure that makes you a loser and a shitty boyfriend. Come to think of it, I don’t see her here. Maybe she realized she was too good for a stupid asshole like you and ditched. Can’t blame her really, it was bound to happen sometime.”
Without a response from Eddie, the blonde sat down again and continued to eat, receiving pats on the back from his teammates for his insults. Eddie remained silent, even when his friends tried to ask if he was okay. He obviously wasn’t, but they just didn’t know what else to say.
After the last bell sounded, Eddie closed his locker only to come face to face with none other than Dustin Henderson. He plastered on the biggest smile he could muster. “Henderson! Hey man-“
“Cut the bullshit, man. I know you, and I know you feel like shit because you let a guy who ‘throws balls into laundry baskets’ get to you. Look, dude, with you in such a bad mood, the campaign’s gonna suck tonight. So, why don’t you just go home and maybe see what Yn is up to. None of us have seen her all day and we were wondering if she was out sick or something.”
Eddie intervened. “But the guys-”
“I already told everyone to go home, Eddie. Go take care of your sweetheart or whatever. If it was Suzie-”
Eddie scrunched his face up and shook his head. “Dude I do not wanna hear about you and Suzie. Ok, I’ll go. But only because I need to take care of Yn.” He started off, and Dustin was left standing in a mostly empty hallway. The younger boy knew that his friend needed Yn more than she needed him right now, but he also knew him well enough to know that he’d rather die than ask for comfort. But that didn’t stop him from being peeved at being brushed off so quickly.
“Thanks, Dustin! You give the best advice, Dustin! I’d love to hear about your healthy relationship with your beautiful girlfriend, Dustin!” He shook his head and scoffed. “The things I do for this kid.”
Eddie wasted no time after leaving Dustin in the hall. He headed straight for his van with every intent to go directly to your house. Upon his arrival, he clambered out as fast as he could. He didn’t want to show it in school, but Jason’s words had struck some insecurities. What if Jason was right? What if you didn’t want anything to do with him anymore. Waiting for you to answer your door felt like an eternity. When you finally opened the door, Eddie pulled you into a hug before you got the chance to even ask why he was there. The act he’d maintained since lunch cracked, the first tears trailing down his face.
You hated to do it, but you pulled away from him. The hurt look on Eddie’s face broke your heart and you tried to reassure him as quickly as you could. “I’m gonna hug you, I promise. Come in so I can shut the door, ok?” He nodded feebly. Once you had him off your doorstep, you grabbed his hand and led him to your room. You sat on the bed and he followed suit, sitting next to you, the bed dipping under his weight. “Do you wanna talk about it or do you just want a hug?”
Rather than give you a verbal response, he pulled your body into his, arms wrapped firmly around you. You melted into his embrace as he laid his head on your chest, hiding his face. You two laid in silence for what felt like hours, but was probably only 30 minutes or so, until he lifted his head and looked at you.
“Hi.” He croaked, voice dry.
“Hey, baby.” You pushed his bangs out of his eyes and brushed your fingers across his cheek. “Wanna tell me what’s got you all upset, huh?”
He stayed quiet for a moment, choosing his next words carefully.
“Do you-“ He looked strained, but you nodded him on encouragingly. “Do you ever regret being with me?” When he saw your face drop, he tensed.
“Not that I think you do! You don’t act like you do, you act like you care about me and you tell me you love me a lot! It’s just that, y’know, I’m not the type of guy girls like you settle for.”
You shook your head in disbelief. “Girls like me?”
Suddenly, his attention was grabbed by your sheets. “I mean, you get what I mean. You’re perfect. You’re crazy smart, you’re the most beautiful girl I’ve ever seen, and people just respect you so much. You’re intimidating, but you’re so good, you know? And-”
You felt your heart shatter as you took in his frantic state.
“Eddie, sweetheart,” You intervened gently. “As much as I would usually love your sweet compliments, I have to stop you there.” His attention was still on your bed, so you took his face in your hands and forced him to look at you.
“I didn’t settle for you, first of all. You’re the best thing that’s ever come out of living in this miserable little town. You’re my favorite person, okay Ed? And yeah, I am smart, and good, but-“
“And beautiful and intimidating.” He interrupted.
You softened and smiled at him.
“-and beautiful and intimidating. But you are all of those things and more, do you understand that? You literally create worlds out of sheets of paper with made-up stats on them. And as if that’s not impressive enough, you share that with people. And they look up to you, Eddie. So what-the-fuck-ever if pricks at school think it’s stupid, it’s just what you like, ok? Are we clear? I don’t know who put these doubts in your head, but they don’t know you like I do, ‘kay?” He released a breath he didn’t realize he was holding, and finally fully relaxed back into you. “Okay.”
As you stroked his hair, you listened to the sound of his breathing. Soon enough, it calmed, becoming even with yours, but the tension in his muscles had yet to dissipate. You two laid in silence for a comfortable time, until you began to hum a tune softly, hoping it would help him to relax more.
Eddie shifted curiously, but didn’t lift his head. As you continued, he felt you gently tracing soothing shapes on his back, where your hand had ended up under his shirt. “Eddie my love, I love you so-”
Finally, his eyes met yours, confused, and you smiled softly before beginning to sing the words.
“How I’ve wanted for you, you’ll never know.” You brought the hand that wasn’t rubbing his back up to his face and cupped his cheek carefully.
“Please Eddie, don’t make me wait too long, oh Eddie, Eddie, I love you so.” Entranced, he leaned into your hand and kissed your palm, all while still staring in awe at your face.
“Eddie please write- just one line, tell me your love, is only mine.” In between lyrics, you moved your hand to the back of his neck, and landed a gentle kiss on his temple.
“Please Eddie, don’t make me wait too long, oh Eddie my love, I love you so.” Finally, you brought him in for a sweet kiss. As you pulled away, a goofy smile appeared on his face.
“Where’d you hear that song, sweetheart? ‘Cause I know little old me didn’t introduce it to you.” You giggled and shook your head.
“No, you didn’t. I found some records in my parents’ old stuff and I’ve had it on repeat. Apparently my mom almost sang it at their wedding, just with my dad’s name. You like it?” He smiled and pressed another chaste kiss on your lips.
“I think we should take after your folks.”

Roommates (Twice series: Chaeyoung)
III: Grass genre: fluff - word count: 3414 content warning: detailed marijuana use in the latter half of the chapter
Tumblr media
chaeyo.0: cool shirt, new hair, same me
Chaeyoung had posted a photo you took of her during lunch, showing her new hair-do. Finally, you found out about her online presence when she asked you for your account in order to tag you in the photo.
Her Instagram was…interesting. It was quite cool and alternative. It emphasized her love for art with some posts of her own works, or pieces she admired. There was the occasional mirror selfie, but also a bunch of random pictures of her like one where she stared off into the distance with a strawberry in her mouth.
Yes, it was odd. But you couldn’t help but smile at her feed. It represented her very well. And you grinned at the thought that you now had a place on her feed as well.
In the midst of your fawning over your roommate and her Instagram profile, you locked eyes with a random guy on the other side of the library that was probably wondering what was making you smile like an idiot by yourself. You shot him an awkward tight-lipped smile and quickly buried your head back into your book in embarrassment.
You were supposed to be studying for multiple exams and writing essays which was why you were in the library in the first place. However, concentration didn’t come easy as your mind kept wandering to a specific place, a specific person.
You and Chaeyoung were cool. Whenever you both were home, it was comfortable and never really awkward which you were glad about. You hung out and there was always a light-hearted vibe which you liked, but it was always short-lived as she always seemed to be going somewhere. Sometimes she was already gone by the time you woke up and sleeping when you came back from the library.
Although you two didn’t spend as much time together as you were hoping you could, she did have her ways to occupy your mind during the day. Some days she’d randomly send you artworks, clothes she saw on Pinterest that reminded her of ‘your style’ and most days you’d be flipping through your notebook in class and she’d left a little doodle on the corner of a page, probably when you left it open on your desk.
But you didn’t mind thinking about her this much. In fact, you liked it – a little too much.
Seemingly out of your control, your hand wandered back over to your phone that was still open on your roommate’s Instagram page.
“Hey there,” a voice sounded out, saving you from the rabbit hole you were bound to fall in again looking at Chaeyoung’s Instagram.
Nayeon plopped down on the seat next to you with her own roommate sitting next to her. You had grown close to both Nayeon and Jeongyeon over the past few weeks. As they have been at the college longer than you they could help you out and their chaotic dynamic together was always entertaining to you, so you were at their place quite often.
“How’s studying going? Or should I ask how insta-stalking your roomie is going?” Nayeon asked.
“Oh my god, I wasn’t insta-stalking.” You blushed under Nayeon and Jeongyeon’s knowing smirks. “She tagged me in a post, so I wanted to like it…”
“A post of 138 weeks ago?” Jeongyeon quipped, gesturing to the particular post that was open on your screen.
“Ah, shut up.” You pleaded, defeated. Maybe if you lay face down on the table for long enough they would go away?
“What are we talking about?” The voice of your classmate and friend Jihyo chimed in, chirpy as always. She joined the table with another one of your classmates, Momo, completing the small group of people you usually hung out with.
“Someone here has a little crush on their roommate.” Nayeon sing-songed, nudging you in the process.
“Jeongyeon?” Momo asked, genuinely confused.
“Ew, no.” The said girl grimaced teasingly.
“Whatever, I’m out of your league anyway.” Nayeon shrugged and stuck her tongue out at Jeongyeon. “But no, I’m talking about this one here.” She pointed to you.
“Ah, is that the one that make little love drawings for you during class?” Jihyo teased.
“Oh my god, love drawings? You don’t tell me anything, do you?” Nayeon feigned offense and slapped your arm.
“Ship.” Momo simply stated while rummaging through her bag for something to eat.
“I’m your mentor, you know? I should be helping you through these moments in life.” Nayeon went on.
“You’re my mentor. Not my mom.”
“Mom, older sister, mentor, same difference.” The older girl shrugged. “But tell me all about this Chaeyoung!”
And so you did. You firmly stood your ground that you weren’t crushing on the girl. However, seeing your friend’s smirk as you told them about her interests, habits, cute gestures and whatever else you rambled about, you knew they weren’t believing that for a second. Honestly, you slowly were coming to terms with it yourself.
The girl’s teased you relentlessly over your soft spot for the girl, but didn’t seem to know her in the way you did as they said they wouldn’t expect you to be into such a ‘rebel type of girl’.
You understood that she seemed that way though. The tattoos, her slight introvertedness and a slight air of mysteriousness that followed her would make it logical that she would be some sort of hard-ass. However, you knew that that idea disappeared when she smiled at you.
No rebel without a cause could have a smile as sweet as hers. Impossible.
“Okay,” you sighed. “Maybe I do have a bit of a crush on her then.” The table was silent, your friends simply giving you a look.
“Anyone surprised?” Momo broke the silence followed by a string of laughs and shaking of the heads of your other friends.
After what seemed like ages of teasing you, you and your friends all got back to studying. You were surprised at how much faster it was to do your schoolwork with them – it was probably more efficient anyway since you couldn’t distract yourself thinking about Chaeyoung without getting called out for it. Before you knew it, you were done typing up your last essay and were packing your bag to go home.
And boy, you couldn’t wait to get home. You had been fantasizing about diving into your bed as soon as you got back all day and that was exactly what you did when you walked through the door. You groaned into your pillow, releasing all the pent-up stress from being busy with schoolwork for so long.
Much to your surprise, Chaeyoung walked through the front door and paused at the sight of you. It seemed like neither of you expected the other home at this time, but it was a pleasant surprise.
“Hey?” she said, a look of amusement on her face. “You’re back so early.”
“Yeah,” a sigh escaped your lips as you looked at her. “I’m finally done with all the deadlines, which is good…but now I just hope I did well.”
“Aw,” she cooed. “Don’t worry. You worked so hard, so it’s definitely going to be okay.” Your roommate moved over to her own bed and lied down, looking over at you with care in her eyes. “Are you stressed?”
“Yeah, a bit I guess…”
She simply hummed in response and thought for a second. “I think I might know something that could calm you down?” Chaeyoung bit her lip and in a split second she walked over to her desk and rummaged through the top drawer. You watched her pull out a little plastic bag from it, with something inside that you couldn’t quite make out yet. When she sat next to you on your bed you realised.
“Chaeyoung, is that…” you lowered your voice to a whisper and scanned the room as if you two weren’t the only two in it, “marijuana?”
Your roommate chuckled at your antics, “Yeah, it is.”
You fixated on the green bud in the plastic bag. “Is that even allowed in here?”
“I don’t know,” she shrugged with a mischievous smile, “probably not, but no one is here to stop us, right?” She had a point and you thought for a second. “But please,” Chaeyoung locked eyes with you as she went on. “No pressure, alright? It’s just a suggestion, okay?”
Maybe it was her genuine expression, the residual stress you still felt from school or simply just your curiosity, but you decided. “Okay, fuck it. Let’s do it.”
“Cool,” she simply said with a smile.
You watched her as she walked over to the kitchen table and took out some stuff from a little bag next to her bed and took the bud from it’s plastic bag. You weren’t sure what exactly she was doing but she seemed like such an expert at doing it. Before you knew it, the little bud had been rolled into a joint and you looked on fascinated.
You didn’t realize you were biting your lip watching her lick the paper as the last step until her eyes met yours when doing it. It was the quickest you have ever looked away from anything, but you still managed to catch her smirk at you. You awkwardly cleared your throat as you felt yourself blushing.
Chaeyoung had moved your desk chairs over to the open window and you sat down next to her. “Have you ever smoked before?” she asked. You shook your head and rubbed your arm. “Do you know how to?” When you shook your head once again, she smiled. “Okay, that’s fine. I know a way that might be chill for you.”
She explained that there was a way for you to smoke by her inhaling it first and transferring it over to you in some kind of way. You had no clue what she was talking about, but trusted her when she told you “Just inhale when I guide you to, okay?” Chaeyoung got up from her chair and stood in front of you. She cupped her hand to shield from the wind as she struck her lighter.
As she was so focused on that, you took the chance to look at her. She wore sweatpants and a cropped t-shirt, stained with what was probably paint or ink of some sort. You couldn’t help but check her out. Her hair in somewhat of a messy bun, cheeks rosy from the cold wind on her, her clothes showing off her mid-riff and soft tummy…
As if she could read your mind and your deepest desire, she came closer to you. Chaeyoung lowered herself to face you by going on her knees in front of you and placed her hands on your thighs. Your breath hitched as she leaned into you and she softly tapped you. Taking that as the said signal, you closed your eyes and tentatively inhaled the smoke coming from her parted lips.
When you opened your eyes they met the worrying eyes of your roommate. “Are you alright?”
You nodded. The feeling of smoke in your lungs was definitely something you had to get used to. Then it was as if everything hit you all at once. Chaeyoung’s hands still on your thighs, her scent, her face only inches away from yours, her presence, her lips. Everything. “Wow. Yeah, but wow.”
Chaeyoung only laughed and the sound and it sounded like music in your ears. Chaeyoung helped you the same way a few more times and a combination of the weed and her proximity to you made you feel lightheaded in an odd, but good way. You rest your back in your chair, letting the pleasant wave of euphoria wash over you.
“Relax, okay?” she instructed and sat back down in her own chair. “and let me know if you need anything.”
You pouted and held your tongue. What you wanted was for her to come closer again, but that would be silly to say, right?
“Tell me about your day.” She said, taking a hit for herself. In your mind her eyes bore right through you. You don’t know if it was just the weed, but it felt like the first time you truly had someone’s full attention in order to talk about something as mundane as your day.
So you did as told. Told her about your school assignments, procrastinating in the library and your friends joining you (you skipped over them teasing you ofcourse). You even rambled on about the smallest detail, until you saw her smiling to herself. “Oh my god, should I stop talking?”
“No, don’t.” she reassured and leaned her back against the wall, eyes closed. “Your voice is very soothing.”
You internally thanked the gods for her eyes being closed so she couldn’t see you blush. “It feels like I’ve been talking for hours…”
Chaeyoung took her phone out and chuckles slightly. “Yeah, that’s the weed.” She said and showed you on her screen that only five minutes had passed. “And even if you were, I wouldn’t mind.”
Honestly, you wouldn’t mind talking to Chaeyoung for hours either. The idea of having a moment like this with her last for so long actually brought a giddy smile to your face, one that you didn’t even mind hiding.
“You know, for someone who’s kind of quiet you have a good way with words.” You remarked earning a giggle from your roommate.
Chaeyoung giggled “Thanks, I guess?”
“Anyway, the floor is yours. Talk to me.” You slouched down in your seat and closed your eyes, awaiting her voice to fill the room.
She talked about her day with a smile, describing how she went to an art studio with some friends to paint and listen to music together.
“Is that where you always are?” you cocked your head to the side, “You’re not actually here very much.”
“Aw, did you miss me?” she teased. You held your tongue as you felt yet another blush coming on. Due to the embarrassment you felt of her being kind of right, you only managed to playfully roll your eyes at her. “Yeah, I guess. Either there or in the library or something.” She went on (thankfully). “I noticed you were heavy on all your school work for the past week or so, so I didn’t want to, like, distract you or anything.”
You paused for a beat. You wanted to tell her that there was no problem and that she wasn’t distracting you at all, but from the few times that you actually did study when she was home, you knew that you would be a lie. After reading every other word, your mind drifted to her and what she could be thinking or doing on the other side of the room. You couldn’t help but glance at her every now and then and admire her.
When you thought she wasn’t looking, you peeked at her. Looked at her reacting to videos on her phone and smiled at the way her eyebrows furrowed then or happily sighed at the sound of her soft giggles. Or when she was furiously typing away on her laptop you yearned to ask what she was doing, just to hear her voice fill the room again.
Had she noticed that? Is that why she left? Was it weird? Is that why she kept leaving? Were you being weird right now?
Omg, say  s  o  m  e  t  h  i  n  g
“Oh,” you simply let out.
The other girl burst out laughing and you weren’t sure why. She held onto her stomach and actually folded over in laughter. And for some reason, you couldn’t help but laugh with her. After you both laughed for what seemed like ages she wiped happy tears brimming at her eyes. “You were thinking for so long, and you had the shortest reaction.”
“I think my brain might have just glitched,” you chuckled.
“No worries.” the other girl smiled. “Anyway, you should come with me to the art studio sometime. It’s really pretty, plus I think my friends would really like you too.”
“Sounds like a plan.” You smiled.
The two of you talked longer, every minute felt like an hour and you enjoyed all of it. You learned so much more about Chaeyoung. You watched with adoration as she described the intricacies of “Girl” by The Internet and explained to you why it was her favourite song at the moment. You admired her as she went on and on about Justin Bieber, trying (and failing) to hide her inner Belieber. You smiled as she told you about a new spider tattoo she planned on getting on her hand and you laughed at how she cringed when telling you about her first kiss.
You were enthralled by her. Captivated.
“I could go for some food, how about you?” she randomly spoke up, breaking a small silence that had fell. She stood up and walked towards the kitchen area.
“You read my mind.” You muttered as you shuffled behind her.
“Good,” she chuckled. “I got some Ramyeon.” she smiled bright and held the noodle packs next to her head.
“Ah, it’s my favourite flavour as well!” you exclaimed.
“I know, I noticed you preferred it over the others. So I buy mostly this one now.” Your roommate casually said as she prepared the food. “You’re right. It’s really good.”
“Oh my god, Chaeyoung. You’re such a sweetheart.” You let out, admiring your roommate. She laughed at your remark and you went on, “I can’t believe I was intimidated by you at the start?”
The other girl burst out into laughter when you spoke, “Ah, you make my day. Me? Intimidating?” she put her hand against her chest and raised an eyebrow, acting offended. However, she quickly composed herself and turned the amused look on her face into the most adorable wannabe gangster one you have ever seen. “I mean, yeah, as you should.” She cutely quipped.
“Shut up, chae.” You slapped your roommate’s shoulder. “You’re not fooling anyone.”
When the food was ready you ate, going on and on about how this was the best Ramyeon you had both ever tasted – although that was probably just due to the munchies. Both of you were sitting on your roommate’s bed, still talking while tiredness was slowly taking over. Your voices had gotten lower and you had somehow, someway slowly found comfort being close to each other. Chaeyoung sat up against her bed frame and you rested your head against her shoulder. From this position, a seemingly permanent smile was plastered on your face as you got lost in her eyes.
You were taking turns asking each other random questions, being stubborn and trying to avoid falling asleep. “what is your ideal date?” she had asked you. It was a good question. Not one you had really thought about before.
“I don’t really know actually,” you admitted. “Having a bite to eat with them would definitely be on the list. Maybe also do something cool before or after? Like visit a concert, or an aquarium or something – I don’t know. I also enjoy the arcade. I always used to go on my birthday when I was younger.”
“That sounds fun.” Chaeyoung said. You could hear it in her voice, she was tired too. “When is it actually, your birthday?”
“Saturday.” You said, mindlessly snuggling up closer to your roommate.
“What? So soon?” the other girl said, slightly taken aback. “were you going to tell me this?” she jokingly quipped.
“ah, no big deal.” You replied through a yawn.
You didn’t know if it was an after effect of the weed or the comfort you felt laying on Chaeyoung’s shoulder, but it felt like you had never been as tired as you were at that moment. However, stubborn as you were, you didn’t want the night to end.
“I disagree.” The other girl muttered under her breath. She looked down and chuckled at you fighting your natural urge to close your eyes. “You’re tired.”
“I’m good.” You tried.
Your roommate swung her arm over you, pulling you closer into a more comfortable position. “uhm,” she started tentatively. “you’re welcome to stay with me tonight…I mean, if you want.”
You melted in the comfort of her grip, and through the tiredness you managed to smile at her. “yeah, I’d like that.”
And just like that, you closed your eyes and another day was gone.

MN 1068 - 06
The X-Files. MSR. Season 5. Rated: Teen and up. WC: 1387. Read on AO3.

He’d said as he dropped a kiss on her brow: “I’m gonna grab a shower. My wallet’s on the coffee table if I’m not out before the food gets here.”
He wasn’t. So she answered the door and paid the kid, tipping him more generously than she knew Mulder would’ve. She gathered forks and paper towels and made it through the doorway into the living room before she lost her grip on his wallet. It fell open at her feet, spilling out the bills she’d haphazardly stuffed back into it. She emptied her hands and squatted to retrieve it.
It was the sharp corner, shoved into the folds of money and poking under her fingernail, that drew her attention. "Ouch!" Without thought she pulled the culprit free and held up a piece of yellow legal pad, a little more than two-thirds the size of a business card, and thickly laminated. She flipped it over and read what was there, scrawled diagonally across the printed lines of the paper in what she recognized was Mulder’s hand.
MN 1068 - 06
She was still frowning at it when he stepped out of the bedroom. He was in his usual post-shower state: almost dry and almost dressed. Loose running shorts, a sleeveless tee, and damp porcupine hair; his normal attire for a night in. He noticed the food first, rubbing his hands together in pleasure.
“Excellent. I’m starving! What’ve you got there, Sc -?” His lips clamped shut when he saw what she held, and his eyes darted to hers.
She experienced the briefest moment of embarrassment. But she hadn’t done anything wrong, not really. Besides, there were far fewer secrets between them these days. And if he trusted her enough with his wallet – which he’d done countless times before – then he also trusted her with whatever it contained.
Scully stood and offered him the stiff scrap of paper. “What’s this?” she chirped.
He had to open his mouth twice before he could get a word out. A tiny alarm chimed quietly in a corner of her brain. “It’s… it’s nothing. A keepsake. Nothing.” He took the preserved scrap of paper and his wallet from her and settled into his corner of the couch. He quickly tucked everything back in and laid it in the center of the coffee table. “Let’s eat.”
He would never be a completely open book. She would never be able to adequately plumb the depths of his unending mysteries. And she kind of liked it that way. But Scully knew avoidance when she saw it. Hunger won out over curiosity, though, and she took the offered food from his hand without saying anything. Soon the living room was scented with Garlic Chicken and Moo Shu pork as they ate in comfortable silence. The tank in the corner gurgled away and Mulder’s thumb pulsed on the remote until he settled on a nature documentary. The volume went up a little. They traded containers for a while and then switched back to their originals.
She waited until the smiling, happy, slightly desperate on-air staff of the local public broadcasting station launched into their spiel for funding before she turned to him.
“You don’t want to tell me?”
He looked over at her, scratching behind his ear with one hand, the other with a fork stuck out like a weapon between his fingers. “I did tell you, it’s nothing.” A smile that verged on bashful crossed his face and then was gone in an instant. “It’s stupid. You’ll laugh at me.”
“Mulder, I do that all the time anyway. Sometimes I think you encourage it. You get off on finding new ways to make me break out in incredulous laughter.”
His head bobbed. “True enough,” he conceded. “You know me well, Scully.”
“Maybe not.”
They traded a long look, and she tried not to seem too nosy. The recent addition of sexual intimacy to their relationship didn’t mean they had to share everything, did it? After all, they were still allowed some privacy.
“It’s gonna make you nuts if I don’t tell you, isn’t it?”
“No, not at all.” She shifted her attention back to the TV. “Okay, yes, it is,” she conceded after a minute, chin lifted proudly in defiance. “But then making me nuts is also something you delight in doing.”
“It’s… stupid,” he repeated after a minute, jamming his fork into the Moo Shu Pork and transferring the contents onto a thin pancake. He folded it closed and shoved most of it in his mouth.
She spent another minute trying to look engrossed in the episode of Masterpiece Theater that’d just started. “It’s fine, Mulder” she said. “You don’t have to tell me.”
He swallowed a bite just in time to bark a laugh and tossed the empty tail end of his pancake into the container of pork. “Of course I do. If I hope to have a moment of peace tonight. Tell me I’m wrong.”
“Well, I could just go home, if that’s the way you feel about it,” she teased.
Not surprisingly, he chose that moment to tackle her and push her flat on the couch. He loomed over her, wearing the shit-eating grin she treasured but would never dare admit to. He levered down enough to give her a long, hoisin flavored kiss and then tucked his nose into the notch of her jaw. “You promise not to laugh?”
There he was, being bashful again. And it was so not like him. Mulder was brash, confident, practically impossible to embarrass. Hesitant occasionally. Even vulnerable sometimes. But he sounded just like a shy twelve-year-old boy. Remember, she admonished herself, that’s who he is, too. Whatever this was, it mattered to him.
She wove her fingers into the short hair at the nape of his neck. “I promise.”
“It was on the card I found in the filing system at the DOD.” He lifted his head and looked at her with soft, mossy eyes. “Your card, and it was printed in red in the upper right corner. MN 1068 - 06. It corresponded with the vial I found in the basement of the Pentagon. The one containing the chip that saved your life.”
“Mulder, we don’t know that for a fact.”
“I do. You believe in your brand of miracle, and I’ll believe in mine.” He cocked his head and offered a lop-sided smile. “All that matters is that we got one.”
She sat up, pushing back to gain a little bit of distance so she wouldn’t be distracted and miss the rest of his story. Mulder hovered close, his hand sweeping up and down her arm, cupping the curve of her jaw before sliding away.
“I jotted it down as soon as I got back to the Gunmen’s. I didn’t want to take the chance I’d forget. That ID number? It saved your life. So I carry it with me. As a reminder.” He scrubbed his face with both hands before turning back to her. “I wanted to keep the vial,” he chuckled under his breath. “I was going to do something with it, I don’t know. But I never got it back and didn’t think to ask until it was too late. Too much going on at the time. So… now you know.”
He gave her a long look from the corner of his eye and then slowly sank back against her, like a felled tree. She squirmed and shifted until she was on her back again, and gathered him in her arms, nuzzled him like the overgrown puppy he sometimes resembled.
He said, a few tranquil moments later, “Thanks for not laughing at me, Scully.”
“You’re welcome.” She dropped a kiss on the crown of his head and told him matter-of-factly, “I love you, Mulder.”
He wriggled against her and unhurriedly began rooting at her breasts with his glorious nose. His warm, humid breath played against nipples grown suddenly hard with a rush of anticipation and desire.
“Prove it,” he murmured, and gently closed his teeth on the peak of her left breast, dampening the fabric of her shirt and the bra beneath.
She shoved him away and took to her feet, holding out a hand in invitation. Then she led him to his bed and gave him all the proof he’d ever need.

I want more than anything to write something angsty enough to rip your heart out. But the muse is demanding fluff lately, something she used to avoid at all costs. Despite any protests I might make, she usually gets her way.
Until next time…

In true backwards fashion I didn't get anything done from Inspiration Saturday except the pic edit. However, I made progress on with my heart in my lap (previous posts here!)
Alexis spots an empty high top table close to the open dance floor where they can sit and be close to the action. They’ve barely gotten comfortable in their seats before a waiter appears. “Anything I can get for the ladies this evening?”  He’s young and handsome, with neatly trimmed chestnut brown hair, and hazel eyes reflecting the flickering candlelight in the middle of their table. Alexis already hates how he’s looking at Twyla, like she’s the only one there. She instinctively wants to grab her hand or touch her shoulder to let him know Twyla’s off limits – even if that’s not exactly true.  “I’ll take a Mary Pickford, please.” Alexis clears her throat, diverting the waiter’s attention, before turning to Twyla and gently placing one hand on her forearm. “How about you, doll?” “I’m not really sure.” Twyla frets with the gold clasp on her clutch.  The waiter studies Twyla a moment, looking her up and down, as if it will help him offer the perfect suggestion. “A beautiful young woman such as yourself could start with a classic. A sidecar, perhaps?” Twyla lightly bites her bottom lip, looking to Alexis for guidance, her green eyes wide and searching, ready to trust whatever Alexis says.  “I think you’ll like it. But get what you want,” Alexis assures her. “Sidecar it is, then!” Twyla’s nervousness melts into her usual brilliant smile that could easily outshine any marquee on the block.  “Of course. I’ll bring your drinks right away.” The waiter disappears and Alexis can feel the tension sliding from her body, letting her relax again. Reluctantly she withdraws her hand, suddenly too aware of Twyla’s skin, soft and warm, under her palm. Alexis immediately misses the comforting sensation.

Hi I just went through your genderfluid!Lucy tag and on one of the post you had the idea about top surgery!Lucy wearing breast forms so I had an hilarious idea for a fic: Lucy wearing a dress and breast forms and leaning on a counter/table trying to be sexy and suddenly one of the breast froms falls out and then a second of silence as Lucy and Maggie/Alex process what just happended XD.(Can you maybe tag nerdsbianhokie? If you are not up for writing it maybe they are?)
Lolol, I enjoyed this, thanks for the prompt! It got a tiny bit away from me, so it may be a bit haphazard? I'm posting it below, but I'll clean it up and post on AO3 once I figure out a title.
And @nerdsbianhokie, I'm sure that anon would enjoy your take on the prompt if you are so inclined. That goes for any other writers who see this too and feel inspired!
1.5k words of genderfluid!Lucy fic below:
Lucy took a breath, smoothing her hands down over her dress. She stepped back and looked in the mirror one last time.
“Nia will understand if you aren’t ready to go,” Maggie had said earlier in the week after watching Leon distractedly pour Alex a cup of milk with a dash of coffee. “There’ll be more events—Lena was throwing money at Nia the second she heard about the Dreamer Center plans, so she’s bound to do a charity event for it in the future. Or we can still go but leave early.”
That had gotten him to stop pacing, to reduce rehearsing the same conversation that yes, you might know of him as Lucy Lane, CatCo’s general counsel, Lois Lane’s sister, or General Lane’s daughter—but that right now he was Leon Lane, and no it wasn’t just a drag thing, and no he wasn’t transitioning to be Leon all the time.
The shift to Lucy this morning had brought some relief.
But as she imagined the conversations with people now, she felt a different sort of discomfort rise up.
“Ready yet?” Maggie called from outside the bedroom, pulling her away from her thoughts. “We’re not in a rush, but Alex has opened the fridge to stare inside it like twice now, and I think she’s going to raid the food table with Kara the minute after we’ve said hi to Nia.”
“I’m just checking what we have,” Alex insisted, followed by the sound of the fridge being shut. Footsteps, and then a knock on the bedroom door. “Can I come in?”
“Sure.”
“I’m being removed from the kitchen. Which, I know, somewhat of a usual occurrence, but—” Alex stopped short, her eyes finally sweeping over Lucy. “Wow.” Her voice slipped into something breathy. “You look absolutely gorgeous.”
Lucy couldn’t help but duck her head against the fluttering in her body, affected by Alex too. It wasn’t an unexpected compliment, not exactly, but the paranoid part of Lucy had been worried that top surgery would change how Alex and Maggie felt about her.
Reassured, she couldn’t help but pull Alex closer and make her blush too: “You should see yourself, Danvers.” Lucy played with the knot of her tie, pulling the tail out from behind her suit just for the fun of it. “I hope you don’t have other plans for tonight, because I know what I’d like to do.”
“You know I don’t have other plans,” Alex grinned, hands settling on Lucy’s waist as she stepped closer. “Just you and Maggie for the rest of the night. Though speaking of things we have to do…” The look in her eyes softened, and one hand came up to cup Lucy’s cheek. “We noticed you’ve been holed up in here for a while. You know that this is one of those things you don’t have to do, right? If you’re uncomfortable, or if you’re just tired of people, or whatever. This isn’t work.”
“I know. I just…” The weird feeling engulfed her chest again.
“Is it the dress? I can grab your suit, which you look just as hot in, by the way.”
Lucy smiled, but she shook her head. She was happy to be wearing this dress finally—she hadn’t been able to while recovering from top surgery because the one shoulder design meant that her pocket bras would be visible, and she had to wait to try her adhesive breast forms until her incisions were healed enough. Now it had been a few months, and it felt good, the shape and flow of it against her breasts, and against the rest of her body.
“Thanks for offering,” Lucy said, the sharp edge of her frustration lessening slightly. “The dress is actually fine. I think I’m just uncomfortable with people there seeing only this—” she gestured to herself, “and assuming?”
“Mm.” A look of understanding passed over Alex’s face. “Kind of like when people assume your sexuality based on who they see you with?”
“I… Yeah, actually.” She and James had even gotten shouted at once at Pride—by a group of teenagers who probably didn’t know any better, but it had soured the experience. “That I’ve figured out how to handle, at least. This is…” Lucy let her forehead drop onto Alex’s shoulder.
Alex’s arms wrapped around her. “It’s really bothering you, huh?” she murmured.
Lucy just sighed.
“Would you like permission not to go?”
“I already know I don’t—”
“I know. Hey, I know that you know,” Alex said, rubbing her hand on Lucy’s back, the touch easing the tension that had gathered. “But it’s like what you tell Maggie and I, right? We’re still learning how to not feel so obligated, how to say no to things. And this isn’t life or death.”
“I can’t just…”
Alex kept going. “This is me giving you permission. Okay? You have my permission not to go.”
Lucy squeezed her eyes shut harder. This gentleness still felt like an overwhelming spotlight on the weakest parts of herself, but Alex’s touch never left Lucy, steadying her a little more after each inhale.
“If you’re fine going but you need something from Maggie and I, we can absolutely do that too. But no one will be disappointed in you if you can’t go.”
Lucy breathed into Alex’s shoulder again, and then once more. She finally picked her head up to look at her. “What about you and Maggie? You’ve been excited for this.”
“We can still go and enjoy it for a bit,” Alex reassured. “I know that the three of us can kind of be a package deal, but I promise that Maggie and I will not destroy things if left unsupervised.”
A huff left Lucy’s lungs at the grin and the promise which, if the context were any different, would not be convincing at all. “You two have the worst track records, I swear,” she said, shaking her head.
“But you love us anyway.”
“Somehow I do,” Lucy said, exasperated yet fond. She was stuck with the two of them, but she wouldn’t have it any other way. She hugged Alex again, notching her chin on her shoulder. “And, um, thanks for saying all that. Can we do that?”
“Absolutely.” Alex pressed a kiss to Lucy’s head. “Love you too, Luce.”
--
A couple hours later, Alex and Maggie came back to the apartment, thankfully unscathed and with a plate of food swiped for Lucy.
“We got you this, too.” Maggie pushed a set of jewelry across the kitchen table, the colors of the genderfluid flag and bi flag popping out. “We figured that the necklace would work well with most of your dresses, and there’s pins to put on other things too.”
“So you can be a little more visible when you want to be.” Alex pressed her shoulder against Lucy’s.
Warmth spread through her even as she sputtered. “Oh you didn’t have—”
The look Maggie gave Lucy stifled her protests. Maggie just inched the jewelry further towards her until she finally took them with an amused but genuine smile. “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.” Maggie rested her elbow on the table and propped her chin up with her hand. “So.” She looked Lucy up and down, the side of her mouth quirking up. Lucy knew what she was thinking—the looks she gave her hadn’t changed. “Did you go anywhere while we were away, or were you just waiting around all dressed up for us?”
“I did some reading. Figured I’d keep the dress on because it’s fun to see Alex’s brain stutter,” Lucy said, smirking back at Maggie.
Alex reached across to shove Maggie’s shoulder. “You were the one rushing us home because you got reminded of Lucy’s dress, and, well.”
Lucy laughed at Maggie’s shrug, no attempt to deny it. “Yeah?” Lucy leaned forward.
Evidently too much though, because her elbow had just touched the table when she felt her left breast form start to slide. One playful shoulder bump by Alex later and it was resting on the table limply.
“Well,” Lucy said finally. “Rough sex with these is off the menu until I figure out how to apply the adhesive better.”
“Oh my god.” The expression on Alex’s face was frozen in shock for a moment before she slapped a hand over her face and let out an embarrassed noise. “I forgot that could happen now. Please don’t tell me I ruined the moment.”
“No, you’re fine. Come here,” Lucy smiled, gently pulling the hand away to kiss her.
“It’s only ruined if we let it be ruined, right?” Maggie was somewhat successfully biting back her own grin. If it was with anyone else, Lucy would have been worried that the laughter was directed at her. But Maggie was amused at Alex’s reaction, and when she met Lucy’s eyes, the mischievous look from before was still there. “We can wait if you want to switch to your bra, unless you want help?”
“I got it.” Lucy took her runaway form from Maggie, the action as comfortable as being passed a binder. “You can help take off my dress after though, if you want.”
“Don’t take too long.” Maggie pulled her in for a kiss of her own, affection and heat that coursed over Lucy’s skin. “Alex and I, we definitely want.”

Pairing: Bartender!Tom Holland x Reader
Words: 926
Full Chapter Warnings: Swearing, talks of bad dates
Summary: You want a relationship and Tom wants to find his “one person.” The want to not be lonely left you both going on a string of bad dates. And you both had your usual spots you would go to sulk about it but, as a coincidence would have it, your spots are closed on the same night leading you both to same exact diner. And as another coincidence would have it, your server serves you each other’s meals, leading the two of you to meet.  .
A/N: I wasn’t going to post a teaser and then decided to since I’m too excited to wait until Thursday to share something lol
FULL CHAPTER COMING THURSDAY

You’re sitting alone at a table, looking at the window that’s lit with the street lights and signs from across the street. The lights reflect off the wet pavement, cars swooshing by every so often. This is not your usual spot. Your usual spot is Gino’s down the street but they’re closed for a remodel for the next week and this was the next best place. Kind of.
You have this routine, one you wish to break, where you stop at Gino’s after a bad date and eat alone, listening to a playlist or an audiobook or a podcast. Anything really to make yourself seem busy and not like a loser sitting alone at a restaurant at 11pm. For you, it’s better than going to your shared apartment with your best friend, and telling her about yet another bad date, hearing how you’ll find the right person one day. It’s all gotten a little old.
And then there’s Tom.
As chance or luck or fate or whatever you wanna call it, has it, he’s sitting alone at his own table across the room from you. He, too, has a routine of going out after a bad date. His usual choice is a coffee shop, the opposite way of Gino’s but that coffee shop is closed due to a family event. It’s a small, family-owned and run coffee shop so every once in a blue moon, a wedding or graduation occurs and they close for the day to celebrate. So, Tom comes here. Unfortunate, really, that he has such a routine just because dates don’t go as planned but similar to you, it’s a easier to be alone than to go home and feel like a disappointment or get pity from his best friend.
“If you need anything, just holler.” The server says quickly, walking away just as Tom looks at his food.
“Uh, excuse me?” Tom calls, hand slightly raised in the air, seeing the blueberry pancakes are definitely not what he ordered but the server is already at the only other table with a person, delivering his food.
Tom sighs, watching and hoping she’ll notice or that you will notice but neither of you do. The server walks off before the you can comment about your wrong meal. Tom watches and you look about as defeated as he does and it doesn’t look like you’re about to bring your food up to the counter and that’s not what Tom wants to do either. You might be the only two customers in the diner but Tom doesn’t want to be a bother to anyone so, he picks up the plate and makes the short walk to the your table.
As Tom gets closer, he takes notice in how you’re dressed and your makeup. You’re not dressed like someone who just wanted to come to some random diner to eat alone. Your makeup matches your red dress while a white wire falls in the center of your chest, earbuds in both of your ears. The closer he gets to you, the more he notices there’s nothing else at your table.Nothing that indicates you’re even waiting for someone. And he wonders would drive you to be alone at the diner, too.
“Um…” Tom clears his throat, holding the plate closer to him than the table. “I think…she mixed up our meals.” Tom says quietly, you just looking up from your phone with doe eyes.
You pull out an earbud, brows furrowed. “Sorry, what?”
Tom uses his free hand to point at the plate on your table and then the plate in his hand. “I think our meals got mixed up.”
“Oh.” You let out a huff, cheeks heating up. “Yeah, I guess they did. Thank you.” You give him a soft smile, pushing his food towards him as he puts the plate down in front of you.
He has light brown hair, gelled, the front swiped over to the side. Not like a comb over, the front is swooped up to give his hair volume. And he’s wearing a burnt orange button up, matching a tie loosened around his neck, and black slacks that seem a little too big. Interesting.
“You, uh, you alone?” Tom asks and he doesn’t even know why he asked. It’s not even his business. It was a little rude in hindsight but he’s alone, so he’s not judging, just curious.
“Mm,” You hum, brows are furrow just a bit and the corner of your mouth switches into something Tom can’t tell is a smirk or a grimace. “Because if I were alone, I’d want to tell some random guy that.”
“T- that’s…I….sorry.” Tom stutters, shaking his head in embarrassment.
You laugh softly. “It’s okay, my best friend knows where I am, shared location.” You shake your head, pulling your plate closer to you. “I am. You?”
“Yeah.” Tom chuckles, rubbing the back his neck. “I am.” He sucks in a breath, dodging eye contact.
“Why?” You scoff, unwrapping the silverware to grab a fork. Tom furrows his brows, eyes narrowing, taken aback by your bluntness. “Sorry!” You shake your head. “I just mean that it looks like you wouldn’t be.” You’re kicking yourself and feel more embarrassed than you have in ages. You did not mean to come off so blunt and rude. You gesture towards his outfit, “I didn’t mean to sound rude or anything. It just....looks like, uh,  you were...I don’t know.” You suck in a breath, furrowing your brows and shaking off the embarrassment. “Wanna sit?”

You yawned as you approached your boyfriend’s table at the Crown & Anchor. Ted had been at a series of away games for a few nights and you were excited to see him, even if the yawn said otherwise.
“Well aren’t you a sight for sore eyes,” he stood and smiled, kissing you briefly before pulling out a chair for you. Mae was over immediately with a pint for you and you murmured your thanks before turning your attention back to the handsome man in front of you.
“Ditto,” you tried to say, mid-yawn yet again.
“Not that you don’t look lovely, but you also look very tired, have you been up burnin’ the midnight oil?”
You looked at Ted sheepishly and thought, briefly, about lying so he didn’t worry, but the two of you didn’t lie to each other.
“Actually no, I’ve been going to bed at 9:30 like a toddler, trying and failing to sleep without you.”
“Oh, sweetheart,” Ted gave you a look that was equal parts affection and distress. He had offered to come back early but you told him to stay and celebrate the win with the boys. “If I had known—”
“I know, I know, but I told you not to and I meant it. I’m a big girl, I’ll get over my fear of the boogieman someday,” you were deflecting with humor and he knew it but he let it drop and you were thankful. “So, tell me all about Amsterdam.”

A few weeks later, you and Ted were out with the entire team for a raucous winning streak celebration. One-too-many turned into two-too-many, and you were wobbly on your feet and slurring your words. Ted beamed at you when he saw you letting loose.
You and Keeley had just finished belting another round of “Richmond ‘til we die” and you tripped over your own feet trying to sit back down next to Ted. There was a sharp pain in your ankle and you grimaced but said nothing, realizing it might be embarrassing to Ted how sloppy drunk you were. He didn’t notice your injury but he did suggest it was time to get you home and you agreed.
The walk home was stumbly and painful but you covered up the hurt by leaning heavily on Ted who accepted your weight easily. He leaned you against the wall to unlock his door and you mumbled a quiet, “‘m sorry.”
Ted’s brow furrowed, “What are you sorry for darlin’?” He helped you inside and onto the couch before sitting next to you.
“I got too drunk. It was a lot, and in front of you friends, I’m so—”
“Baby, do I look bothered? I love seeing you cut loose and enjoy yourself, I love how much you get along with my friends, who I should mention, are just as much YOUR friends. I love you, you don’t embarrass me, okay?”
You wanted to cry, and you almost did but you held it together. Only letting your eyes get a little misty before you nodded and hugged Ted close to you. “Now,” he said, I’m going to get you some water and you’re going to get ready for bed.”
“No it's okay I got it!” You pushed yourself up with a groan and started limping towards the kitchen but Ted caught up to you easily, “woah hey there, what hurts? Something’s wrong with your leg?”
“Ah,” you waved your hand dismissively, as he sat you back down on the couch. “Classic drunk injury I’m okay.” Ted was ignoring you as he rolled up your pants leg revealing a clearly swollen ankle.
“Baby why didn’t you tell me?! You walked home like this. We could have called a car. I’m going to get you some ice.”
You acquiesced but only because Ted was using his no-nonsense voice. He also looked a little angry, which made you feel childish even though that was the whole feeling you were trying to avoid. You didn’t want to cling, or be too much, or need too much from him, especially because Ted was the kind of man that would give you the shirt off his back or an organ if you let him.
Ted helped you ice your ankle for a while before bed and the air between the both of you was tense, but when you went to sleep he wrapped his arms around you as he always did and you thought that that was the end of it.
In the morning, you joined Ted in the kitchen to a stack of American pancakes, coffee, bacon, eggs, breakfast potatoes, and fresh fruit. In other words, a veritable smorgasbord which meant only one thing: Ted was stress cooking and that was not good.
You sat down with a nervous smile and Ted sat next to you and sighed. “We need to talk about last night.”
“I—,” you wanted to cut him off and apologize but he held up a hand and you nodded, letting him finish. You just hoped he wasn’t breaking up with you.
“I need to know why you don’t trust me. I’m not mad, I just want to get to a place where you trust me to take care of you and I need your help to do that.”
Your eyes widened in shock. Of course this kind man would think it was all his fault. “Ted, love, I trust you more than anyone in the world. More than I trust myself probably.”
“Then why don’t you let me come home when you miss me and can’t sleep? Or tell me when you’re hurt and need help? Or let me get you a goddamn glass of water?” You knew he was serious because he cursed and he never cursed. You hung your head in embarrassment, but you knew he deserved the truth.
“I don’t want to be too much for you, Ted. I don’t want to need you too much, because you’re so selfless and I know you’d do anything for me. Everyone in your life needs things from you and I want to be easy. I want to be the one thing you don’t have to worry about.”
You didn’t realize you had shed a tear until Ted reached over and brushed it from your cheekbone, leaving his hand to rest on the side of your face. He had an understanding, but sad smile on his face.
“Sweetheart, I know exactly how you feel. After Michelle…I know my personality, the “Lasso Way” can be a lot. I care a lot. And that can be overwhelming, but I don't want to hold myself back from you and I don’t want you to hold yourself back from me. I think the best thing we can do for our relationship is be 100% real with each other.”
You nodded and smiled, even as tears continued to fall. “You’re right. I know you’re right. I love the way you care about me, Ted. And I don’t want you to stop, as long as you promise to take care of yourself too.”
“Deal. Does that mean you’ll start tellin’ me when you need me?”
You smiled. “I’ll start right now. Can I have a kiss, please?”
Ted grinned and stood, leaning over you to kiss you deeply. “Any time. Anything else, sweetheart?”
You looked around the table and smiled. “Maple syrup?”
Ted laughed and went to retrieve it from the kitchen as you piled breakfast food on both of your plates. Both of you may be a little too much, but you were the perfect amount for each other.
