Pairing: Eddie Munson x reader

Warnings: None, I think.

Summary: Eddie wrote the Hozier song Jackie and Wilson about you in this fic bc i don’t know how to make up song lyrics.

A/N: I'm crushing on a musician rn so i wrote this. i really like it idk.

Word Count: 1.8k

Eddie had been playing his acoustic guitar intermittently, leaning up against your headboard as you worked on an essay for one of your community college classes. He only used his acoustic guitar when he was writing songs. He wasn’t singing though. He usually sang as he played. Usually he wrote his lyrics before even thinking about melody or rhythm, like a poet who happened to be a metalhead. You stretched as you put your pencil down. Eddie looked over at you.

“Done?” He asked.

“No, but I want to take a break,” you said. Eddie smiled brightly when you met his eyes, approaching the bed. Eddie quickly gathered up his notebook and music sheets, moving them to the side. You laid down beside him snuggled into his side, resting your hand on his thigh, and closed your eyes. His guitar was still settled in his arms.

“Sing your new song to me, Eds,” you requested. Eddie blushed, unbeknownst to you.

“It’s…uh…it’s not done,” he muttered.

“Sing me what you have,” you asked. “I like hearing you sing.” Eddie’s blush darkened.

“It’s not good enough yet,” Eddie told you.

“Don’t say that, Eddie,” you replied quickly. “You’re always good enough.” Eddie smiled softly despite the anxiety he was feeling about sharing his song with you.

“Thank you, sweet thing,” Eddie said.

“Sing to me, please,” you asked again.

“I only have a few parts done,” he said. “But uh…it goes like this…” Eddie started strumming a melody on his guitar. It wasn’t his normal metal style though, it was the blues style that you often listened to. He hummed along to the melody where he didn’t have words yet and then after a few bars he began singing.

“She blows outta nowhere, roman candle of the wild…”

It was the Fourth of July. Eddie had gone to the quarry in the hopes of avoiding the crowd, but still being able to see the fireworks. When he got to his usual spot, there were no other cars around. He would be alone.

But when he approached his usual look out spot, you were there. You were illuminated by moonlight. He’d never seen someone so beautiful. That was what made his heart drop. He was sure you’d be another person to call him a freak. He turned around to find somewhere else to watch the fireworks from.

“You can stay. This is the best view,” you called. Eddie froze. He didn’t think you had seen him. He turned back to face you.

“I don’t want to bother you,” Eddie said.

“It’s alright,” you said. “I’d like the company.” This time Eddie heard your voice waver a bit. He decided to join you. He’d never made a better decision.

When he got close enough that night he saw that there were tear streams on your cheeks and your eyes were red and puffy. He sat down in silence.

“I’m Eddie,” he introduced himself.

“Y/N,” you told him.

“I’ve never seen you before,” he said.

“I just moved here,” you said. “Actually, if you know a cheap place for rent or somewhere that’s hiring I’d love to know.” Eddie was quiet for a moment. You were clearly in the midst of something serious.

“Are you alright?” He asked after a moment. Before you could answer a firework shot up into the air, golden glitter sparkling throughout the sky. There was a small quiet before the next rocket was shot off. You took the brief pause of explosions to reply.

“Let’s just enjoy this moment. We’re never going to forget it.”

Your eyes widened when you realized that this song was about you. And by the style of it, it was for you as well. Eddie kept singing.

“...Laughing away through my feeble disguise…”

Eddie would never forget the way you laughed when he walked out of Max’s house with her Michael Meyers mask. You had been standing watch while everyone talked out the next move. Everything seemed to be going to hell, but you still had your sense of humor. You were still the sweet and funny woman he’d fallen in love with.

Eddie hummed a bit more, mumbling a few words that he wasn’t sure he liked yet before he began singing again.

”…And lord she found me just in time

She's gonna save me, call me ‘baby…’”

Eddie would never forget that you saved him. He wouldn’t forget that you dragged him out of the upside down and saved him. He didn’t remember much of that moment, the blood loss was too much for his mind. What he remembered was waking up to you holding his hand in a hospital bed while you were reading “The Lord of the Rings” to him. He remembered the way your voice was heavy and sad while you read.

“Hey, beautiful,” Eddie croaked. Your eyes shot up from the book.

“Baby!” Your voice was light and happy. “You’re awake!”

“I’m awake,” Eddie agreed softly. Tears began slipping down your cheeks. “Oh, no. Angel, don’t cry,” he begged.

“I’m sorry. I just thought I was going to lose you."

“What happened?” He asked. Your expression dropped and you scowled.

“You did something incredibly brave and saved a lot of people, and if you ever do something like that again I’ll kill you, Munson,” you said fiercely. Eddie chuckled.

“So it worked out?”

Eddie hummed a few more bars as you were tearing up.

“...Run her hands through my hair…”

Eddie would never forget the first time he felt your fingers tangling into his mane of curls, gently scratching his scalp as your lips were shoved against his. You had been making out in the back of his van, hiding out there during your lunch break. You hadn’t been together long at that point. When you tugged on his hair he moaned. You leaned away to giggle. For some reason that was it. He knew right then that he belonged to you.

“Don’t laugh at me!” Eddie whined.

“I’m not laughing…I just… I like you a lot,” you said softly. Eddie blushed.

“I like you a lot too,” he told you.

“Good. Now keep kissing me.”

You had sat up to look at Eddie at this point, but he was avoiding looking at you, still nervous about your reaction to the song.

“...She'll know me crazy, soothe me daily

Better yet, she wouldn't care…”

Eddie would never forget when he came home crying. He dropped his backpack on the floor when he got into the trailer and immediately headed for his room. He didn’t notice you sitting on his couch as he wiped tears from his eyes.

“Eddie?” You called softly. Eddie froze. “What’s wrong?” You asked. He turned to see you.

“Why aren’t you at work?” He deflected.

“Got off early,” you told him. “I wanted to see you.” He sniffled.

“Give me a minute to get changed,” Eddie choked out. Before he could reach his door you had caught his hand, keeping him with you.

“Baby, what happened?” You asked softly, raising your free hand to wipe his tears and cup his cheek.

“It’s nothing,” Eddie said. “Just talk. I don’t know why it’s getting to me this time.” His voice was off. He was lying.

“Eddie,” you protested. That was enough for him to fold when it came to you.

“People were saying I’m not good enough for you.” You frowned. “They were saying I’m a freak and you’re…well, you’re perfect. And they’re right.”

“You are not a freak and you are more than good enough for me,” you said immediately. “You’re perfect and you’re perfect for me. I can’t imagine anyone better,” you said firmly. You pulled his head down to lean his forehead against yours and put both your hands on his cheeks. His hands slid around your waist, pulling your body close against his.

“I don’t know if anyone else thinks that,” Eddie murmured.

“I don’t care what anyone else thinks. All that matters is what we feel for each other,” you told him.

“You’re right,” he agreed. “I…know…I’m good enough for you,” he added unconvincingly.

“You are. I’ll tell you everyday if that’s what you need, Eds.”

“...We’ll steal her Lexus, be detectives

Ride round picking up clues…”

Eddie would never forget when you pulled up to Reefer Rick’s in your dad’s Lexus. Eddie had been terrified all night, but there you were to help him figure out what was happening. There you were, by his side, like you would always be. You wrapped him in your arms tightly and looked him over for injuries, knowing that he was prone to ignoring them on account of not liking doctors.

“I’m okay,” Eddie told you. You raised an eyebrow.

“Okay?” You repeated.

“Yes, sweetheart. You’re here now. I’m okay.”

“Does anyone else know you’re here?” You asked.

“No,” he said. “Just you.” Just then Steve Harrington’s car pulled up. Before long you and Eddie were caught up on the alternate dimension beneath Hawkins. And not long after that Eddie was tucked into your Dad’s car, laying on the floor of the backseat as you drove off, on your way to prove Eddie innocent and save the day.

“...We’ll name our children Jackie and Wilson

Raise them on Rhythm and Blues…”

“That’s as far as I’ve gotten,” Eddie said as he put the guitar to the side. He finally turned his eyes up to look at you and saw your face doused in tears. “Sweetheart?”

“Eddie, you wrote a song for me,” you whispered. Eddie smiled proudly.

“Course I did,” Eddie said. “You’re my muse, princess.”

“I can’t believe you did this. It’s amazing,” you told him.

“It’s not finished yet,” he said.

“You can do whatever you want with the rest,” you said, wiping away another tear. “All of that was perfect.” Eddie smiled.

“It's not too hard to write a perfect song when you’re writing about a perfect person,” Eddie said. You smiled. You crawled forward, straddled him, and wrapped your arms around his neck. You kissed him passionately. Your lips moved in harmony and your tongues traced each other perfectly. You melted into the kiss. You sighed softly as you leaned away.

“You have to record a copy of that for me when you’re done,” you said. Eddie smiled.

“It’s supposed to be your anniversary gift,” he said. “You can’t hear anymore of it until I’m done now.” You grinned widely.

“How am I supposed to compete with that?”

“Honey, if all you do that day is call me you win,” Eddie said. You ignored this.

“I’ll figure it out, Munson. I’ll get you a perfect gift too,” you said assuredly. He chuckled.

“Don’t need a gift,” Eddie said. “You’re the perfect gift, sweetheart.”

I'm sad so here's some music headcanons for Destiny 2 characters, assuming music remained intact since the pre-Golden Age:

- Cayde: ofc I'm starting with him. I feel like he'd listen to a bit of everything to be honest (I'm projecting so hard rn), but most of the content of his playlists would be "european childhood" songs (idk what else to call them), 80's music and white girl music. My boy would absolutely kill it at an ABBA karaoke night. He knows every single move to the Just Dance Rasputin dance (he learnt when he was a human, but don't tell him that. He likes to think he came up with it), which only fueled Andal's jokes about him being Rasputin (the warmind, not the dude). Oh and he listens to Hozier when he's Feeling™.

- Eris: my favorite goth. However, i feel like she'd mainly go for the loud stuff, to drown The Voices™. Real loud. Like, Deep Purple loud. Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath are on the list as well, she likes to vary. As for the goth, perhaps some Nine Inch Nails. The Cure, definitely. She really likes how russian songs sound. Saint thinks she's weird.

- Ikora: other than the occasional heavy metal music sesh with her gf (she specifically enjoys Metallica), she's really into lofi. I know, i know. Polar opposites. But she's stressed, ok? She also wouldn't say no to some bedroom pop/alternative/indie. I can picture her listening to Rex Orange County.

- Zavala: Zuzuvela! Classical music, who would've guessed. A bit cliche, i know, but hear me out. I like to think man's learned to play the piano when living with Safiyah, and used to play Für Elise for her. He still plays it now when he's feeling down. Are you crying yet? I am. Anyways, we all know he listens to Shaxx's tapes as well.

- Amanda: everything about her screams rap to me. But like, all rap. From Eminem to Tupac to Nicki Minaj to Kendrick Lamar. Imma throw Tyler, The Creator and Childish Gambino in as well because that's my personal Holy Trinity. Kendrick, Gambino and Tyler. In that order, iykwim.

- Crow: now this guy, he's the definition of "a bit of everything". Hozier. Soooo much Hozier in this guy's wrapped. If you look closely you might spot some Will Wood and Mitski. Oh and, ofc, the queens as well: Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Britney Spears, etc. Now that i think about it, he would make a great Y2K girl, but that's between me and God.

I ran out of colors so that's it! Please tell me if i should make more i have so many of these (i will probably make more regardless). Also please tell me if i got any genres and/or artists wrong, I did do some research but you never know <3

Yuriiiiii!!!! I saw your tags on your francesca request! I'm so happy you liked it, I woke up one night with a switch flipped and was like "I got the perfect idea for this" when listening to songs from magica madoka!

You clocked it, Ace's story was basically an aceyuu madoka au and I had do Francesca (song) for it!!! It's basically telling the story of two famous lovers that were included in Dante's Inferno, and the gist of it is that the two lovers were cast into hell for their sin of lust, but are telling each other that they would do it all over again. They'd turn back time just to sin and love each other again, to be cast down into hell, if just to be able to hold each other again. I felt that it would be SUCH a perfect inspiration for Ace, since I feel like he'd slowly realize how important Yuu is to him over the loops, and get more and more intense and desperate as he slowly realizes that their death might be inevitable, whether it's by Riddle's hand, Leona, Azul etc etc up to Grim.

But he's gotta take care of the (his) Prefect in anyway, so he'll keep trying again and again, if just to see them over and over. Anyways I ought to go to bed but again I'm glad you liked it!!!! xoxo I'm very proud of that request, might turn it into a fic in the future its very yummy

Aceyuu madoka au is something I have been thinkin on ever since I saw this comic @/tartppola drew. The image of Ace fucking Trappola claiming "it's only natural for me to upset the laws of a god" has me howling. The idea of Ace slowly realizing his love for the Prefect at the same time as just how hopeless their situation is... ooooh that has such beautiful potential. The sacrifice everything to save one person vs sacrifice yourself to save everything dynamic is something I really like so I should probably actually sit down to watch Madoka If you do write that au make sure to tag me I would love to see it!

Casual physical affection jesus, if you touch my hair or hug me or just put your hand on my arm or shoulder, I will remember that for a ridiculously long time and it will most likely go into my happy memories book, if I can get myself to write something in it. Hi!!! 

Before I get to my request, congratulations on 1.5k! I’ve been following you for a few months now and everything that you put out is just insanely good, I always feel so immersed in your writing! You are seriously so so talented!!!

For your celebration, I wanted to do option two, please!! I would like either the Harry Potter fandom (either era) or the grishaverse, whichever one works better for you!! My pronouns are she/her and I am straight. I am about 5’3”, have collar bone length dirty blonde hair, solid cobalt blue eyes, and I am definitely more on the chubby side. Personality wise, I am very academic driven. I work hard for my grades and have always put a pressure on myself because of it. I come off as a shy person, but once you get to know me I am a total loudmouth and I will talk about the silliest topics. I love to banter. I’m quite insecure and can get embarrassed really easily, but it’s something I’m working on. I also am the oldest of 6 siblings and am the mom friend of my group. I have a soft spot for literally any animal or flower (it’s an issue). I get along with pretty much anyone I meet (I’m a people pleaser), but I keep a really close inner circle. Reading, music, and crafts are my favorite hobbies. I absolutely adore every genre of book. My current favorites are Little Women, Hunger Games, and Far From the Tree. I love figuring out plot twists in books/movies. I absolutely love horror movies, it’s a tradition in my family to watch a new one every weekend. Music has been a major part of my life for years, I play the alto saxophone and piano. My favorite artists are Taylor Swift, Noah Kahan, Hozier, Olivia Rodrigo, the Backseat Lovers, and Daisy Jones and the Six (I know they’re a fictional band, but their album is amazing). I love just about any craft I can get my hands on (jewelry making, sewing, painting, scrapbooking, etc).

james would adore someone as dedicated but fun as you are. i don’t think james really has to try to do things well, he’s just naturally good at a lot of things. so he’d see the effort you put into yourself and into school, and he’d really admire your work ethic and how much you care. he would hate that you were negative about yourself, and he’d always know the right things to say to cheer you up and make you feel better. he would always see past ant flaw you had (or thought you had) and see the best parts of you. and he’d make sure to tell you how highly he thought of you. hed think you’re literally the coolest person ever with how artsy and musical you are, your hobbies involve a lot of skill and time. it takes a special kind of person to stick with it and enjoy it as much as you do. he’d see how sweet and caring you are. he’s got a big heart himself, so he’d find himself really drawn to you.

idk why but i feel like james would HATE horror movies. he loves adventure, but he’d see no point in intentionally scaring yourself. he’d be under the assumption that there were plenty of other things you could do to get your adrenaline pumping, and scaring yourself shitless wasn’t the way to do it. but, he’d do anything for you. and it was a good excuse to get close to you anyway.

he’d go into movie night with the intention of being your big protector. he’d put on a brave face when you chose the movie, huddling up next to you as you hit play. and just as the first jump scare happened, he’d flinch and reach out to grab your hand.

you’d smirk, raising a brow. “you alright?”

“yeah, yeah,” he’d clear his throat, letting you go as he took a breath. “just didn’t expect that. i’m good.”

you’d smile to yourself as you turned back to the movie, knowing there was a lot more left—and a lot more scares. the movie would continue, and james would keep inching closer as it went on. by the end, he was halfway in your lap, hiding his face in your shoulder. the second the credits rolled, you couldn’t help but chuckle, turning to look at him.

“love, that was horrible!” he whined, not even pretending to act unphased.

you’d smile, wrapping your arms around his shoulders. “you were very brave, james. you only broke a knuckle or two squeezing my hand that hard.”

“oh, piss off!” he’d say, but he was chuckling too. “i’m picking the movie next time. none of that blood and demons and shit. something funny, yeah?”

you’d nod, trying and failing to hide your smirk as you reached up to brush his hair out of his face that he’d messed up from the sheer amount of times he’d jumped and hid his face as he clung to you.

“yeah. something that’ll give my hand a break.”

Arcane Characters and their musical history + music taste

is this in the canon universe or an au? idk. maybe a bit of both <3

this is my first hc post, so have mercy on me! i have no idea if i’m formatting this correctly. this feels like a thought dump. you can also tell that i was an orchestra kid middle-high school and that i’m extremely partial to jazz :P

Caitlyn

• definitely had the classic piano + violin upbringing combo

• teen Caitlyn going ham at the violin? yeah. she was definitely first chair and everything

• her musical history is partly why Caitlyn’s posture is impeccable

• but truth be told…. our favorite enforcer has an affinity to the bass guitar

• which is HOT. (especially to a certain pink-haired someone)

• can sight read complicated bass lines and practices up in her room a lot, the amp blasting

• isn’t picky with her music taste but is nostalgic for pieces she learned growing up and a bit of jazz

• if she’s feeling particularly pine-y over a certain pinkette she’d pull out the yearning indie pop i’d feel

• i want to say she went through the dodie in her primary years -> hozier in her secondary years-adulthood pipeline but maybe that’s me projecting a little LMAOO

Jinx

• learns music very easily, could play any instrument she wanted to tbh

• but is surprisingly kin to the piano and violin, and silco has her playing music in The Last Drop occasionally

• i love the idea of Jinx practicing piano, brows knitted in concentration, and Silco watching her from the door frame practice and master a piece like the dad he is (definitely brags to Sevika about Jinx’s musicality afterwards)

• Jinx memorizing children’s tunes to annoy Sevika (and maybe heal her inner child a little) and all of Silco’s favorites to make him proud (though he always is, regardless)

• is so. SO good at her bowing and picking (in relation to the violin). it might sound chaotic at times but Jinx’s pizzicato + staccato are always so clean

• in terms of general music taste, i see Jinx as a hyperpop girl but i‘m interested to see what other people think

• also indulges in very dramatic classical music- both listening AND playing, i know Jinx puts all of her emotion into the music she plays

• p!atd/fob/tøp phase HAD to have happened at some point

Ekko

• local percussionist icon… everyone knows that Ekko knows how to make a good beat

• he’d tinker around and create his own instruments- better with every invention

• it’s giving rubber band guitar kid but 10x better

• got into drumming as a teenager and spray painted some cool (and slightly angsty) patterns onto his drum set

• also can definitely dance… not as related but…

• can play the viola as well and he played duets with jinx/powder growing up on the streets

• always thought that jinx was so impressive with her playing skills n he definitely tried to impress her with his own music

• this boy could/can VIBRATO!!! and he definitely smiles when he’s really into the music he’s playing too- you can see the joy written across his face

• he doesn’t play viola much anymore as an adult, not unless some of the Zaun children convince him to perform and play for them

• Ekko totally bonded with Jinx and their love for hyperpop when they were younger

• i feel like he’d generally listen to a lot of hype workout music, hip hop, and punk rock/alt rock

Vi

• Vi never really had the chance to play any music, nor did she really have an interest in playing growing up

• but I’m thinking of her finding Vander’s old guitar in a storage room one day and being determined to play it

• she’s embarrassed to ask Vander for help and it definitely takes a bit of time but Vi eventually masters Blackbird (by the Beatles) with Vander teaching her

• Vi is amazed that her hands could create sounds so lovely, and falls in love with the guitar- although she never really gets to learn many songs before she’s sent to prison

idk what possessed me to make these but here ya go. Also I guess call me the 4kids of headcanons, I don't know a lot of music that isn't american-centric, so if you know some bands from other countries that could go with these please feel free to add them! <3

Yugi: I stand by the common headcanon that Yugi loves Heavy Metal. BUT this is also Yugi we're talking about, and he knows not everyone can handle the intensity of heavy metal, so often times he'll play more mild/main-stream metal or nu-metal. Something (or, rather, anything) by Linkin Park usually gets played. Three Day's Grace, Breaking Benjamin, Shine Down, NOTHING from your teen EMO phase is off the table for Yugi (plays Bring Me To Life because him and Anzu sing the "WAKE ME UP" parts perfectly together). ALSO!! I think Yugi would love Grunge music, plays Heart Shaped Box by Nirvana every. time. he's gets to control the music.

Atem: it took our pharaoh boi a long time to find his own taste in music. He does genuinely like a lot of Yugi's music but the more he listened to stuff on his own, the more he realizes that he just likes...vibe music. Ya know, music that just has a ~vibe~ like Telepatia by Kali Uchis or Electric Love by Borns (Jou jokes that it's good music to get stoned to). Also, anything Hozier makes instantly goes on his favorite songs. He's also kind of a sap for dramatic love songs. Actually, anything dramatic is up his alley so fully expect to hear some Adele or Conan Gray or Billie Eilish when you tell him to play something.

Anzu: has a wide taste in music but will exclusively play *hot girl* songs like WAP, Deepthroat, Thot Shit, and Bisexual Anthem when given the power of the playlist. Mostly does it because she loves seeing some of the boys get all squeamish hearing women belting about dirty shit. If begged she'll play other music, and in that case she'll play some Halsey, Rick Montgomery, MARINA, and so on. Yes, she does love her dance music (you can pry Lady Gaga and Black Pink from her cold dead hands!!) but she listens to so much of that while working that when she's hanging with the gang she usually goes for other types of music she likes.

Jonouchi: because of his delinquent days he listens to lots of rap music. Takayan, Eminem, and other "angry" rap dominate a big part of his playlists (but!! once he's able to embrace his nerd side he'd totally like nerd rap like JT music). He also likes K-pop tho, probably stans EXO. All in all he likes stuff with a hard beat, the kind of stuff you'd find in workout play list. Freaks by Timmy Trumpet, Turn Down for What and other Lil Jon stuff, even Harlem Shake. If you can punch bullies to it, he likes it! Anzu also gave him a deep appreciation for Nicki Minaj, dont fight me on this.

Honda: Mostly likes Rock music and all the ambiguous variety that label provides. Bon Jovi, Foo Fighters, and Killers are particular faves of his. Also fully expect him to play several Imagine Dragons songs, and 00's/10's songs like Hanging by a Moment by Lifehouse, Everything You Want by Vertical Horizon, It's Not Over by Daughtry, etc. Tends to play his "soft" rock songs to off-set Yugi's rough metal, Jou's angry rap, and Anzu's dirty girl songs. Honestly, Honda is usually in charge of the music because everyone can get behind his music, the only one who bitches is Otogi and it's just because he likes bullying Honda, not because he actually dislikes the music.

Speaking of!

Otogi: has shit taste in music. Sorry, it's canon I don't make the rules. No one ever lets him pick the music because he'll just play whatever song has it's sample trending on tiktok at the moment. And he'll play it on repeat. Does he do this just to troll everyone else? No one knows. You'd think the resident Casanova would make better music choices, but no.

Ryou: loves show tunes and will usually play go to his "Broadway hits" playlist to make things easy, but throws in Disney songs too. Every time he plays We Don't Talk About Bruno the gang breaks into song! Besides that, Ryou plays lots of Sleeping At Last and Sam Smith, kinda sad moody stuff ya know? Echo by Jason Walker, ok on your own by mxmtoon, Hello My Old Heart by the Oh Hellos, or Ghosting by Mother Mother usually makes an appearance. Anything with a mellow sound basically. He also(!!!) has lots of ambient/vocal-free music mixed in there, he knows a lot of that stuff from making background music for his RPG campaigns and, adjacent to those, found a genuine appreciation for lofi and synthwave! (like Atem, he appreciate a good ~vibe~)

if this helps, i'll tell you what i normally listen to, which is very basic & basically the same few artists over and over lol

- mostly just taylor swift, she makes up 70+% of my listening probably haha and if i had to pick a favorite genre of hers it would be the folkmore style

- some other pop, like olivia rodrigo and conan gray and lorde & some doja cat but i'm not a huge fan of doja's lyrics

- lyrics are really big for me, so is having a pretty voice and nice melodies

I guess I've grown to love that one chapter in BAB that's just a long-distance text /call convo between Link and Revali. You know, where Link committed several acts of arson in the background. Idk it just feels fun. There's also a HUGE hint about Link buried in there that gives me enjoyment. The kinda hint that if someone re-reads when this fic is done they'll be like "OH." I decided to make playlists for Cathala and Tarinne plus explanations for why I chose each song because I entered one of those ADHD fugue states and if I didn't finish this task I would die

Anyway here are the two links (they're youtube playlists because I don't have spotify. I would obviously recommend using an adblocker if you're just gonna watch on youtube) and the explanations for each song are below the cut :) Each playlist is about an hour long.

For Tarinne’s:

1. Foggy Nights: I consider this her theme so putting it first as a sort of intro only makes sense.

2. Here’s a Health to the Company: I think this works as an example of her general disposition. She’s a people person, and always a fan of singing these sorts of songs in taverns, on ships, or what have you. It also kind of feels like a sendoff to soldiers, which I imagine symbolizes her joining the Sentinel Army and quickly thereafter fighting in the Third War.

3. Wartime Prayers: Somewhat self-explanatory, this is symbolizing her seeing war for the first time, but I also included it because the last line transitions SO WELL into the next song.

4. The Hollow: This song is an intro to an album I've never heard so I don't know the context, but I really love it because it sounds like someone praying to their deity and like I mean c'mon. Elune. Tarinne's praying to Elune to guide her through the war. Do I need to elabo-

5. Wave Walker: KILL DEATH MAIM AHAHAHAHA

6. Isil Elun’falo: Just a super rad fan-made night elf song that's basically "wow we sure do love Elune" said in twenty different ways for four and a half minutes. But it ROCKS and I LOVE it.

7. Chewing Cotton Wool: This song is about losing a loved one (I did have to check but yeah that's what it is) and I use it to symbolize Tarinne losing her mom during the war. The last line, which includes the song's title, I especially like. It's referring to how morticians (apparently) put cotton gauze in a corpse's throat and mouth to keep body fluids in and make the face look more natural. So there's a fun fact for you.

8. See U Soon (Song for Dad): Just a short lofi piece to rest a bit, and it was also chosen because the title's in reference to Tarinne growing closer to her dad after losing her mom. She still visits him at his leathers and furs shop in Stormwind fairly often, especially after dangerous adventures. She just wants to make sure he knows she's alright ;-;

9. No Lullaby: Right back into it with a song that I use to represent Tarinne's general feeling of not being able to go home because it's not there anymore. She's felt like this since the end of the Third War, but it's especially strong since the whole Teldrassil thing. But I like the ending, "who said you're on your own," because it contrasts the repeating of "alone" in the rest of the song. And it's kinda like "hey, listen, you're not the only one who feels like she can't go home." I mean that's probably how basically every single night elf feels right now skxnks

10. The Moss: This song juxtaposes classic fairy tales with scientific facts about the world and I love it to BITS. I'm using it here to represent both Tarinne's love for storytelling but also her sort of... part-time historian/archaeologist/conservator career.

11. Rasputin: I just associate this song with her for some reason and this was the best place to put it.

12. Electric Feel: Moving on to focus more on Tarinne's relationship with Cathala now. This is an extremely great and somewhat 😏 song that I also included because the electricity theme is appropriate because Cathala has lightning powers and y'know it's from Tarinne's perspective or whatever.

13. Bedroom Hymns: You know why this is here.

14. Movement: I can't talk about love songs without talking about Hozier, okay. This is just a nice, slower song to relax a bit with.

15. Never Let Me Go: I have an entire goddamn music video in my head with Cathala and Tarinne for this song and it’s very dramatic and emotional and I had to include this song or I’d die. Basically just listen to near the end of this song when she's repeating the title over and over, and imagine the two of them seeing each other at opposite ends of a battlefield after the dust settles and they rush towards each other and fall to their knees holding on as tightly as they can because they got separated early on and each thought the other was dead. Then you'll know how I feel when I listen to this song.

16. Nothing That Has Happened So Far Has Been Anything We Could Control: First of all I love the title, and second of all there's a big section in the middle (1:49 to 2:47) that I like to interpret as the two of them grappling with the fact that they're not really quite sure who or what they're fighting for anymore. Their people, yeah, but there's so many alliances and semi-permanent enemies and only-on-every-other-thursday-enemies all intertwined and the world is just so very confusing and they're trying to make the best of it. Elf school didn’t include international, interracial politics in its curriculum. It did however include how to properly plant trees, and AP calculus (this is a joke).

17. In Dreams: I like to imagine this song is something the two of them would say to each other, as a way of saying “even when everything we know is gone, even when the world ends, I will still be by your side. And if I’m not, don’t fear, for I will find you.” It makes a nice note to end on :)

For Cathala’s:

1. muse: Just a nice lofi intro to get us into things :) I don't see this song as her theme, like I do with Tarinne and the first song in her playlist, but I like it quite a bit. I don't actually really have a theme for Cathala yet, I'm currently going with a version of Way of the Monk from WoW's OST but I'm still looking for something better.

2. Frogs Singing: I included this because it's about just appreciating nature, which works because night elf and also mindfulness and meditation is a whole thing.

3. Tongues: This is a song about feeling distant from your peers which is like Cathala's whole existence! She's this weird mix of two cultures and ultimately she feels out of place regardless of where she is or who she's with. Also the theme with not understanding what people are saying works because the poor woman had to learn Pandaren from scratch and that shit ain't easy. I think blizz said somewhere probably that Common is just a language that EVERYONE knows inherently because Video Game but that's bullshit in my opinion. I'll allow spells that let you understand foreign languages to an extent (Comprehend Languages from D&D lets you understand the LITERAL meaning only, which I like), but every culture and species in the universe knowing Common is silly if you think about it for more than two seconds.

4. Kung Fu Fighting: I'm legally required to include this song. Also I prefer the Kung Fu Panda version, I'm sorry.

5. Harder Better Faster Stronger: I vicariously experience having a great work ethic through Cathala and that's why this song is here because she has 999 Determination and does Too Many push-ups every day or something idk. I was gonna say "every morning" but I have a headcanon that elves only need to sleep every couple of days (sort of a nod to "elves don't need to sleep at all" from D&D, and to explain why NIGHT elves are active at all hours of the day) so that doesn't work.

6. What's Up Danger: This song is Cathala's whole Vibe. Almost zero threat assessment skills in this woman's brain. If it can be punched, she will punch it.

7. Eye for an Eye: Fairly self-explanatory, it's a song about wanting revenge so... yeah. Checked that box. It was this or The Vengeful One by Disturbed but ultimately The Vengeful One's religious symbolism probably makes it fit better as a Tyrande theme lol ("I'm the hand of god, I'm the dark messiah." Did you mean: the Night Warrior)

8. Survivor: Cathala's survived a lot of shit and this could kinda be her making fun of herself for it because "Gods, man! Don't I deserve a break!"

9. Ashes: Really the reason I include this song is the last chunk (2:42 to the end) because holy shit. Listen, if I was gonna include a song with fire motifs, it was gonna be a somber one like this.

10. Into the West: This can kinda represent Cathala just trying to fucking breathe and recover from Teldrassil. Also works because I dunno it has stuff to do with the elves in LotR, I haven't seen those movies in a while. It sounds nice and is melancholy so I included it.

11. Like Real People Do: Cathala loves Tarinne a lot you guys have I ever menti-

12. Into the Wild: Tarinne changed Cathala's world for the better and she's super fucking grateful she has her by her side. Kinda goes without saying but you know.

13. Chasing the Moon: I have a vague music video in my head for this of them falling in love and it's very cute so there's that. Also it's in this specific spot because hey she may be deeply traumatized but she's still got a fair number of things/people in her life that make her happy so :)

14. Follow My Girl: I've got a theme going in my head that while Tarinne is fairly certain of her place in the world, Cathala is still trying to find hers. She outlived all her connections on Pandaria because Elf Lifespans(tm) and the only members of her family still alive are distant relatives she never knew very well.

15. Wish That You Were Here: This works both to represent Cathala on Pandaria feeling super homesick, and for more recently after Teldrassil. Either way, it's a message to her parents and sister.

16. Mr. Fear: She does her damnedest to hide it but she's absolutely terrified something like Teldrassil's gonna happen again! That fear drives her to do everything in her power to protect who and what she can. As long as they're not Forsaken, cause she's still got her biases, that compassion even extends across faction lines. She never really got the whole Alliance/Horde thing anyway. Innocent people shouldn't have to die, regardless of who or what they are.

17. Ordinary Day: Not to get super out there but I think this song works as symbolizing Cathala really trying to hold on to her faith in Elune, but ultimately feeling pretty abandoned. I mean she can clearly see Elune's influence everywhere. But Elune sure ain't doing Cathala any favors as far as she can tell! It also ends the whole playlist on maybe a bit of an uncertain/open-ended note, because this "losing faith" aspect is a new thing with her and will definitely be something she continues to struggle with for a while. On a related note, I should say Tarinne is still very much devout but she gets what Cathala's feeling and doesn't force anything on her, and vice versa. And Cathala wouldn't become atheist, the night elves aren't monotheistic and she still worships all the other deities, it's just specifically Elune she's a little :/ on.

Explain the meaning of your favorite line of dialogue you've written as if someone hasn't read it in context. “He doesn’t know,” Katsuki says, softly. “My timer stopped and nothing happened. He’s not mine.”

the line is from what we deserve!! it's a soulmate au where your timer counts down to the moment that you meet your soulmate!! bakugou's timer ends at USJ when he and kirishima attack kurogiri at the same time (impulsive kings <33) but kirishima's timer doesn't end until kamino because that's when he accepts himself as bakugous soulmate!! unfortunately, when bakugous timer has reached 0, he turned to see that kirishima's was still ticking and therefore believes that kirishima isn't his soulmate.

this line just,, idk. it's really sad. bakugou is such an action-driven character? if something doesn't go his way he Makes it go his way. he's got this insanely volatile quirk and he's got impeccable control of it!! but his love for kirishima isn't something that he can change and he's not going to ruin kirishima's chance of finding his own soulmate because he loves him and wants him to be happy. i really wanted to focus on how resigned he is? and how unusual that is for a character like him.

How would you describe your style? i tend to use shorter sentences and pretty simple words i think? and i gravitate towards lighthearted concepts that allow for ensemble casts and humour!!

What colors would you use to describe your writing? hm,,, depends on the fic i would say?? control fraek is dark green to me?? kinda like a forest at night yk?? scary but there's still life there. sugar cookies is yellow like early morning sunlight, when it rains is yellowy-orange like a caution sign. not gonna list all of them cause theres a lot its just. do u get it? the colours change based on the vibe of the fic.

What song or music genre would you use to describe your writing? think. i am constantly trying to emulate that moment at the end of wasteland baby when hozier goes "im in love/im in love with you."

CONCEPTUALIZATION

How do you conceptualize your ideas? (See specific moments like they're a movie, writing specific lines in your head, don't know until you put the words on paper, etc.) i tend to get inspiration from movies, books, poems, or other fics!!! sometimes one line just makes me go oh,, i want to write something like that,,, and then it helps me create an idea that makes me feel the same way?? i did this with control fraek!!!! i wanted a scenario where bakugou was cold and calculating and i was like hm. to do that he’d have to be focusing on something important. and from there i was able to flesh out the rest of the idea.

Which comes first: the pairing or the plot? with krbk its always always the pairing,, i'll be sitting there like wow <33 i love them <33 what if one of them had amnesia <33 (which, yes, wip!!) otherwise it's usually the plot!! and i slot in characters that i feel make sense

Have you ever used a prompt? yeah!! used a prompt for wlw week 2020 and it was fun as hell

Do you write around the story around a specific scene you want to get to or do you start from a plot idea definitely the first!!!! i almost always write like,,, a super messy scene thats 90% dialogue, keep it in my head, and then write the entire fic around that one moment

Do you find that you include a projection of some part of yourself in the way you write a character? a lot of the time when i write love confessions or love in general i'll have one of the characters think or say that the other person makes their head quiet? and it's because that's what i feel whenever i'm in love?? a quiet mind. i project on characters yeah but i think most of the projection actually goes to the way that i write love

Do you research some of the things you write deeply, partially and kind of wing the rest, or play entirely by ear (in this case, go with whatever base knowledge of the subject you have)? most of the time if i do research it'll be about the setting (ex. the izakaya in to have and to hold) or if i'm having the characters interact with an object that they like. need to know how to use (me, in control fraek: google. hey google. does someone die if they get shot in the foot??? no???? awesome thank u <3)

Have you ever had an idea for a story and forgot about it? lmaoo yeah all the time i'll find like 500-2k words of concepts in my gdocs like i do. not remember this at all

Are there concepts you've tried that turned out better than expected? yeah!! i fully thought the action in control fraek would be awful but it turned out not bad??? which im happy with

Are there concepts you've tried that turned out worse than you expected? again, what we deserve, i personally think it would have worked out better if i'd paced it slower and drawn out the pining but i. do not feel like going back to fix it so its staying the way that it is. pining is so fucking hard to do AHHHH i get so tired with it!!! im like just date already!!!!

PROCESS

How do you come up with titles? in rare occasions (literally. all my multichaps for some reason) the title comes after writing like .5 words of the first chapter im like YES this is it!!!!! sometimes i write the whole thing and pick out one line that fits (what i did with come home to me) a lot of the time i just. steal from songs or poems that i like

What's your favorite emotion to cause on your readers? i like making people happy!!!! love when people comment saying they're cheered up

What's your favorite emotion to write? lovelovelovelovelovelove

Have you ever cried or felt any emotion while reading something you've written? never cried?? but sometimes i'll rereading my hurt/comfort fics 4. yk. comfort

Do you write in order or whatever comes to you? in order!! unless i have a scene that i Need to write and i'll quickly jot it down so that i don't forget

Usual way you procrastinate while writing? ...doing asks like this, making playlists, discord, watching netflix. what don't i do smh

Do you outline or free write? i am. so shit at outlines. i mostly free write and write lil notes for stuff that i wanna add later

Do you set word goals or scene goals (scenes you want to include)? yes!! like i said i'll write loose notes for scenes that i want to add later!! it gives me something to write towards :D

What do you consider when writing your scenes? what goes into making the atmosphere and mood you want? to set a scene i do two things? the first is like,, the five senses bc that always sets the scene really well and makes it feel Real. i'll visualize stuff in my head like its a movie and write out what i would want to tell the set designer?? if the lights are low, if the space is busy, if it's supposed to exude comfort or not.

for putting forward the character's mood one thing i've found that makes a difference is sentence length!! long sentences are good for making a character seem flustered and nervous or not really in control of their emotions? good for love confessions. short sentences are good for when the character is focused on something or short on time. good for fights!!

What's something you never considered to include in your writing that you can't leave out now? def buff hagakure,,,, once i thought of it i was like. if i don't include this at least once in every single fic how could i look at myself in the mirror!!!!!! how could i face anyone!!!!

How do you start a story? establishing a fact about the character or describing the setting! option a is one single thread of gold, option b is between lion and men

How do you end a story? either by tying it back to the beginning or doing like a funny kind of closing??? option a is sugar cookies, option b is a godless society

How do you get out of writer's block? change something!! move something!! i go from typing to handwriting, moving from my bedroom to my living room, switching wips to work on something else!! i do sprints as well?? give myself like fifteen minutes to write something and sometimes 200 words opens up the way for another 2k. sometimes i'll just delete like 500 words and start fresh

Do you edit? or do you toss your writing out there? i edit!!! i'll go over it myself then send it to one or two betas (bee my beloved <33)

How do you edit? do you use spellcheck, grammar checkers, etc? bee is my grammar checker bc he is So Good with grammar. i use grammarly as well for spellcheck stuff mostly?? sometimes my edit process is just like "am i tired of looking at this!! yes <3" and then i post it

PROGRESS

Do you usually like what you write? yeah!!! i post stuff that makes me happy and that i'm fine with rereading!!! i write stuff for self-indulgence reasons first and foremost and i think my writing reflects that sjhnksj

Have you ever written something you didn't like but posted anyways? nope!! even what we deserve i LIKED even if i see a lot of room 4 improvement!! if i don't like smth it's not getting posted

Do you find yourself rereading your writing often? yeah!! the reason i wrote so much krbk secret relationship is because i loved it but i'd read all that there was so i just,, wrote more,, ngl its kinda nice being in a place where i actually like my writing bc i can write stuff that i want to see and really enjoy it!!

Can you tell us anything about your current WIP? sure!! i'm currently working on when it rains which is a fic where bakugou gets hit by a crying quirk!! i'm gonna be using it to explore So Much of all might's character and his relationships with bakugou and aizawa (and i think some people from his past!!)

Can you give us a sneak peek on your current WIP? “You did something. What the hell did you do?” Kirishima sounds pissed off. It would amuse Katsuki if he wasn’t fighting just to stay standing.

“Nothing he didn’t ask for,” Shinsou replies.

“K’ri… shima,” Katsuki croaks out. “‘S fine. Not him.”

His chest collapses back into the familiar dry heaving after that but Kirishima shuts up. He doesn’t apologize to Shinsou.

Kirishima’s a good friend, stubborn and loyal. He stands by Katsuki’s side like an attack dog, blocking him from the view of anyone ogling at his tears.

The last line you've written Ochako knows more than she'd realized. She knows enough to keep her guard up.

INSIGHT

What's your favorite thing about writing? touched on this before but it's mainly just being able to write the things that i want to see and actually enjoy them!!! actually reread them!!!! i thought "wouldn't it be cool if bkg and kirishima owned a restaurant together" and then i wrote it and i like it enough to reread it!!!! being able to create content for myself makes me. so happy

How do you keep yourself inspired? this is gonna sound narcissistic maybe but honestly i'm just really excited about my ideas and where i'm gonna take them and the idea of "i'm gonna get to That scene" keeps me going through the entire thing. also my friends!!!! i'll talk to them about fics and their reactions keep me hyped up enough to finish!!!!

What is your favorite thing to write? just,, slice of life romance,,, stuff thats silly and makes people laugh!!

What do you think your strengths are in writing? i'm good with dialogue!! i do lil voice acting sessions with myself to make sure everything sounds natural and like it's coming from that character skhjnskj

i'm comfortable with my portrayal of love as well??? i spend a lot of time thinking about what it is exactly that i'm trying to get across and i think it turns out well!!

What are things you wish you could practice more? on one hand i wanna get better at writing angst on the other hand i dislike writing angst. do you see my issue

One way you've improved your writing since you began? characterization!! i think i've gotten better at writing characters that are all Different and bring different things to the table!!! i used to project a lot more and it would compromise the characterization because the character was like 70% me and 30% them? not to say that projection is bad but if you do it too much it just,, doesn't read like the character and from a reader's standpoint the narrative can become less compelling

One aspect of writing you're still working on? writing action!!! i. literally hate writing it but i write for a fandom about superheroes so. Unfortunately i gotta learn.

A piece of writing advice you've learned while writing saw this on another tumblr post but they said sometimes if you're struggling with a scene, the problem is five lines back. i've found that to be true!!!! sometimes u gotta delete a chunk and start a little ways back!! i did this with too busy being yours because i was stuck for Weeks and i deleted like 25% of what i had but it helped me actually finish it :D

Something you wish you knew when you first started writing? ,,,,honestly i kind of wish i could know some of the stuff that i used to when i first started writing?? technically i'm better now but creatively i was must better when i wasn't stressing about whether anyone would like what i was writing. so i guess i wish i knew that i should keep that confidence? i kinda wish that i wasn't as insecure about other people's writing styles because i never used to be!!

Something you've learned in life that you apply in writing there's no point in feeling inferior?? writing one genre isn't better than the other. being in one fandom isn't better than being in another. the kind of language you use or the length of your paragraphs- none of that stuff like. matters. what matters is that you're having fun and happy with what you're creating!!!! enjoy other peoples writing but don't let it make you feel worse about yours :D

ok ok ok don’t get too excited, but I finally got the juice to start working on the next part of Fanatic 🖤 most of you guys will be like ‘who cares’ but i know some of you have been waiting for this for a while! it’s been what, 2 months?? hope I’m not jinxing myself by saying this *knocks on wood* also not to hype myself too much but it’s kinda bomb 😳 maybe this is just my sick bias but I’ve really been wanting to write about...aftermath iykwim haha. reader all scared & shy & trying to avoid him but yk he’s not going to leave her alone :P
