just rewatched the first iron man movie and not to beat a dead horse but it's kinda mind blowing how much mcu quality has tanked since then (it's the ✨ contentification ✨)
I mean my goodness, it's a decently fast paced action movie and watching it still felt relaxing and refreshing because the shots lasted for more than 1.5 secs. Also the dialogue was subtle and very natural, the action was grounded, the color grading was crisp and purposeful and not overly saturated rainbow barf, and the one quippy character actually predominantly had moments of genuine seriousness or tension that were never undercut by cheap jokes (and the non quippy characters didn't just randomly start being quippy but actually stuck to their character traits)
It felt like watching a movie instead of an ad for upcoming mcu content

Congratulations to the 2008 Iron Man movie for being added to the National Film Registry. Just for reference, there are only two other superhero movies in the registry; Superman (1978) and The Dark Knight.
Now that I think about it, I’m surprised that Batman ‘89 and Spider-Man ‘02 aren’t in the registry as well. Oh well.

Iron Man (2008) Review
Potential spoilers ahead...
This movie is a good introduction to this world and character, while remaining a fun and interesting story that manages to stand on its own as well as in the full Marvel lineup. You can't talk about this movie without at least mentioning that it had lead to such a Movie behemoth in terms of the franchise. It's the first in a franchise known for breaking records, which could be seen as either a good or bad thing, depending on your views on the franchise as a whole. As for the special effects, none really stood out after watching. Nothing blatantly terrible, but also not great. They were fairly average, which, considering where the franchise is at currently, is saying something. Part of what makes this film as good as it is is the way it manages to tell a comic book origin story on the screen so well. This movie's story does such a good job at showing an audience with no idea what this world has to offer why they should care. The casting really helps sell the comic feel especially that of Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark. He manages to mirror so precisely who Tony is supposed to be. To the point that Stan Lee, the man seen as the creator of many of the Marvel characters we all love today, talked about just how perfect RDJ was the role.
