Roy fidgeted with his coffee, glancing at the barista, at the menu, outside the glass walls to the gloomy Gotham winter, at the cute, coffee-themed centerpieces on the table, and, in short, everything that wasn't Dick.

Dick smiled.

Roy flinched, even though he wasn't looking in Dick's direction, and Dick's smile grew teeth. He wrestled them away, because he wasn't actually trying to terrify his old friend. At least not yet.

Roy did not look appeased.

"So," he said finally, when he realized Dick wasn't going to break the silence. Dick was the one who'd run into him stumbling out of his little brother's apartment covered in hickeys, Dick was allowed to wait him out. "How--how have you been?"

"Fantastic," Dick answered, taking a sip of his latte. "What brings you to Gotham?"

Roy winced. For a moment, Dick wondered if he was going to stutter out an excuse and flee--but Arsenal was made of stronger stuff than that.

"I was working a case with Jason," Roy said evenly.

"'Working a case'," Dick repeated lightly. "Is that what the kids call it these days?"

Roy winced again. Subtle jab about the age difference, successful.

"Look, man, I know he's your little brother, but Jay can take care of himself! Also, this is totally discrimination, how come you're giving a shovel talk to me and not Kori?"

Dick did not raise his eyebrows though he very much wanted to. Roy and Kori? He didn't know whether to be offended or impressed. Even he hadn't had the balls to go for both of them at once.

"Who said this was a shovel talk?" Dick took another sip to hide his growing smile.

"You practically dragged me to this coffee shop for an interrogation--"

"I just wanted to catch up--"

"--and I don't care what you say, if Jason wants me to leave, he'll tell me, so I won't take any of your bullshit--"

"I literally didn't say anything--"

"--and I really like him, and Kori too, so I'm not giving them up for anyone or anything!" Roy ended on a defiant shout.

Dick studied him. His cheeks were red, but his eyes were determined. Dick knew just how stubborn Roy could be when he set his mind to something, and it seemed like the full force of his protection now rested on Jay.

Dick took another sip. "I'm happy for you," he said when he could open his mouth without laughing.

"I don't care--what?" Roy looked dumbfounded. "You what?"

"You're one of my oldest friends," Dick finally gave into the chuckle. "I'm thrilled that you're happy, and that Jason is too. And Kori." Roy narrowed his eyes. "I don't know why you thought this was a shovel talk."

Roy squinted suspiciously. "Because you Bats are the most overprotective fuckers on the planet."

Dick widened his eyes in his best approximation of an innocent look. Roy, after years on the Titans, was unfortunately immune.

"I know you're up to something," he growled.

"I'm just enjoying a coffee with an old friend, who I recently discovered is dating my little brother," Dick said serenely. "I have no ulterior motives here."

Roy hmphed.

Dick hid his smile again and leaned across the table, dropping his voice to a whisper. "Because when Batman finds out you've been working in his city and defiling his favorite, precious, innocent child..."

Roy went gray, face washing out underneath his freckles.

"...well, it was good to catch up while we could," Dick finishes his coffee and stands up. "Best of luck, Arsenal."

Jason easily infiltrated Titans Tower pretty easily, He had his old passcode.

Expecting to scare the living shit out of his replacement, so that he would never be Boy Wonder again.It was petty yeah but that was Jason's plan.

He did not expect replacement to have in his hands little girl with black hair in a little Robin outfit and bright green terrifying eyes. Now the replacement just going to die on principal.

One second later

Okay the green-eyed girl threw a fucking energy bolts at him! What the fuck? And he knew he wasn't tripping acid

Because of the multiple scorch marks on the wall!

Jason was on the run, inside the tower.(it was rather big New York paid a lot to keep it up)

he was still in his custom-made Robin outfit that he bought, (with the benefit of pants thank you very much)

Then he found a redhead kid, at first he didn't think much of it as he charged past him.

But then the flying girl with scary green eyes and black hair shouted to get after him.

Why the fuck was that boy with a flaming sword ready to cut him? Why the fuck does he look like Donna Troy?

And he flies too! Did he have a lasso ?

It took only 3 minutes of running and zigzagging through hallways before he found another kid,

or a blue haired archer girl , her bow drawn at him

A long time ago, back in the 80s & 90s (& I think further back to the 60s XD) The Teen Titans were once one of the greatest comic book teams in the world.

Back then, the majority of the team were happy: Dick & Kory got married & Donna, Roy, & Garth had kids. (Wally didn’t get married & have kids until much later). Due to DC messing up stuff, dick & Kory split up & the kids of the others died. (Wally was the only one married & had alive kids)

Earth-66 was created (by yours truly XD) to answer one of the biggest question: what if Dick & Kory we’re still together & had kids, & Donna’s, Roy’s, & Garth’s kids weren’t killed. Thus: Earth-66 & Young Titans were born.

the thing. about outlaws. is that it has some really really nice moments and the team dynamic is lovely, and i have a lot of positive feelings about that. but the other thing about outlaws is that it’s a character assassination and the plots are so bad that i do want to set things on fire.

Jason clipped roy over the head

"OI!" The readhead yelled dramatically as kori smiled

"That was for the terrible pun" Jason grinned as lian burst into a fit of giggles. The outlaws were having their monthly catch up and Roy had brough Lian along to spend time with her Aunt Kori and Uncle Jay. They had ordered pizza watched movies and somehow this had lead to roy making a series of puns that were terrible even by Jasons standards. "Ignore your Uncle Jay honey hes just bat at puns"

"ROY!" Jason gave the aecher that glare as kori grinned st their antics this was usual for them roy would do it on purpouse.

"Come on Lian you can help me fetch the ice cream" Kori said leading lian to go pick the ice cream flavour while jason and Roy finished their squabble"

"This is payback for me skipping out last month isn't it" Jason said

"Totally it was bat-ly any fun without you" Roy replied

"What will it take for you to stop?"

"Well you missed out on some of the fun last time we played truth or dare"

"No" Jason deadpanned

"Even kori joined in, do it and i stop the puns" "Seriously?"

"Seriously"

"Fine, i pick dare"

"Dare you to call Bruce"

"No way"

"Come on Jay-bin you're not scared are you?" Roy teases

"A month" Jason Stated

"Excuse me?" Roy asked wondering if he misheard.

"I do this no puns for a month" Jason Demanded

"Fine" Roy reluctantly agreed 'but do it on speaker"

Jason pulled out his phone and called Bruce. It picked up on the 5th ring

"Jason?" Bruce asked wondering why his son had called. He never called especially not the civillian line.

Just then Lian came charging in with ice cream slamming headfirst into Jason

"Ow" he said sarcastically ruffling her hair and hanging up on bruce no idea of the chaos that would arise from his actions. _________ This is part 1 of the wholesome version. white christmas on ao3 is a good fic for this concept. as for headcannons, i’ve briefly covered them in some other posts and it’s hinted to in my fanfic “dear jason” but never properly laid out

dick got into the drug scene after roy did since they were friends and went to the same parties. roy never forgave himself for leaving a teenager downstairs at the house party.

he got clean for a while but relapsed hard when jason died. it was made worse when he isolated himself, only getting his act together for tim who still is unaware of the whole thing.

one of scarecrows toxins contains some chemicals that trigger the same neurological pathways that his old party cocktails did, so he ended up seizuring once during a run with the titans after getting hit and had to sober up AGAIN. kori and wally were there and lied through their teeth to the younger members as to why it happened (not because they were ashamed of dick but because dick NEVER wants anyone to know)

a fear of his is arresting an old party friend and having them recognize him

he likes to joke to cope with his trauma so a lot of people who don’t know thinks he’s insensitive to addicts and sa survivors. he never makes these jokes to jason, tim, and damian because they know him well enough to realize what happened to him if he did

jason secretly knows. when he came back from the dead and he and dick were beefing it out, he overheard the drugged hallucinations outside dick’s apartment window (made a comic about that) but he never said anything because dick doesn’t want him to know

he still smokes pot sometimes after patrol and would get burgers with one of his redheads after (roy wally kori babs, and i don’t care what u say: jay)

there’s more but i can’t keep going or this post is gonna be like 10 pages so i’ll just leave this here

What are your thoughts on some of the more popular ships? Fanon and canon. For example superbat, bruce x harvey dent, tim x kon, dick x babs, dick x kory, jay x roy, steph x cass, damian x jon, pennywaynes,...

I’ll list them out

Superbat (Clark/Bruce): I find this ok, but personally, I like it when the trinity acts more like siblings, so it’s not my favorite. 5/10

BruHarvey: lovers to enemies? The angst? Amazing. 8/10

Dickbabs: idk. It feels kinda boring to me. Mainly because DC ruined both of their characters in order for them to be together. 4/10

DicKori: they’re soulmates. Idk what to tell you. And maybe you can tell how biased I am. Right now, they are the opitome of right person wrong time. 10/10

Jayroy: I don’t like this ship. It reduces Roy’s character down to a prop, the age gap feels kinda icky and I personally believe in Aro/Ace Jason Todd. 1/10

Superbat (Kon/Tim): the only version of superbat I truly ship. Reluctant friends, to besties, to flirty friendship, to a game of cat and mouse on if that taunt was real or if they were just fooling around? 10/10

DamiJon: I think their age gap never works in their favor. Either Damian’s too old or Jon’s too old, and it makes me feel wrong. And in more recent comics, they’ve been acting much more like siblings than friends who maybe possibly have chemistry with each other. But I do think if you wanted to go the romance route, it could be double unrequited love that was never expressed. Like a 10yr old Jon had a crush on a 13 yr old Damian. Jon left for almost a decade and comes back, looses feelings for Damian, but a 14yr old Damian has feelings for an 18 yr old Jon, but it never works out. 5/10. Just like their Dads

PENNYWAYNESSSS: 100000000/10. Like are you kidding me, this is the best ship ever and I love it so much.

Honorable mentions:

BruTalia: 10/10. My favorite Bruce ship.

Brulina: 8/10. I like it… but I feel like it wouldn’t work out because Selina would get overwhelmed by the amount of wealth Bruce has. Like she thinks it’s what she wants, but it’s too much for her

Birdflash (Dick/Wally): 8/10. I see the appeal, they’re best friends with so much chemistry, but I feel like they would never date bc they value their friendship more and they’re both super busy

JayKyle: it’s the only Jason ship I like, but only because I want it to be one sided, with Kyle failing to flirt with Jason and Jason is completely oblivious and actually just hates Kyle but Kyle thinks Jason’s playing hard to get. (Kyles flirting is just arguing with Jason, so that’s why Jason never gets the hint) 7/10 +300 bc of hillarity

StephTim: I don’t like this ship because Stephanie deserves so much better, and Tim seems like the type to mansplain every little thing, and it would drive Steph up a wall. I also don’t like the notion that they would be friends after they break up. 3/10 bc they had that piano scene

DamiRae: 2/10. Garchel is a better ship, and I feel like their personalities are too similar.

Flatline/Damian: I love them. I think they’re cute, but I don’t see it lasting long. 4/10

StephCass: 9/10. No more needs to be said. But I won’t ever officially write them as being together within a fic bc Steph’s character deserves to be her own, rather than a lover of a Batfam member, and Cass has her own things to deal with

Yo as the resident Jason Todd fan, maybe you can answer this for me because I haven’t been able to find the answer anywhere else.

At some point in RHATO, Jason gives up his most cherished memory. The one where he’s sick & Bruce stayed home with him.

He was offered it back, and told them to keep it. He refused the offer. I’ve heard that the memory gets mentioned again later but I don’t know if he ever actually really takes it back.

Do you know if he ever gets it back? It’s both sad and not if he doesn’t, because on one hand he’s losing a good memory, but on the other I think it helps cut him off from Batman. Which really might be good for him (looks at all the other comic issues w how Bruce has treated Jason)

I’m by no means an expert on the comics, but I did have a bit of a comic-buying hissy fit a bunch of months ago trying to answer this exact question for myself. Here’s what I concluded (complete with pretty pictures because I’m a firm believer in citing your sources):

So in the new 52 rhato #3 (written by Scott Lobdell), Jay, Roy and Kori each give up their most cherished memory to gain entrance to the Chamber of All. The memories are held by Sa’ru (an all powerful being is also apparently a bratty child?).

Sa’ru gives Roy and Kori their memories back when they exit the chamber, but Jay refuses his.

Skip forward a bunch of issues to rhato #19 and Jason actually has Sa’ru take all his memories after a thing with the Joker (that’s a whole different blog post) and he ends up with complete amnesia. The series is being written by James Tynion at this point, not Scott Lobdell.

But Jason eventually gets all of his memories back in rhato #26.

I think you can make a reasonable argument that Tynion intended this to include his most cherished memory, as Jason talks about remembering his finest moments, his lowest moments, etc. Note, the series is still being written by Tynion.

But now skip way way ahead to rhato rebirth #34, and we get this exchange. 

So, no, I guess he didn’t get it back? Note, that the series is back to being written by Lobdell at this point.

Honestly, I think this is just another stellar example of dc saying, continuity, consistency? What are these strange and foreign concepts? And thus authors doing whatever they want, to hell with any prior storylines. Tynion was clearing going for an arc where Jason reclaimed his memories. Lobdell had a different idea in mind.

I don’t know that it really matters either way. I mean it’s one memory, right? So even if it’s gone, Jason’s second most cherished memory just moves up into spot numero uno. Based on how much Bruce clearly meant to Jason, and that Bruce was actually a good Dad in most of the comics featuring Robin!Jason, I’m guessing that that memory is of the two of them together, too.

I’d say go with whatever makes you happy and fits your own head canons for Jason. I hate the whole storyline and pretend it doesn’t exist while I stick my tongue out at dc and tell them liberally to fuck right off.

Hopefully that was helpful/informative, or at least worth a merit badge toward my resident Jason Todd fan status (I’m expecting my vest in the mail any day now).
