Chapter 12: Terushima

Prompt: Reader pressing their forehead against Character's forehead to check if they have a fever Character: Terushima _________________

When you had decided to be the next manager for the Johzenji Boys Volleyball Team, you distinctly remembering being warned. In fact, the reason you remember so clearly is because of how ludicrous you remember it sounding.

“These boys are a handful, you know. They’re bound to give you troubles and endless headaches. But they’re worth it if you put in the effort. Do you think you have what it takes?”

The question that was posed by the, at the time, third year and current manager, Hana Misaki. And though you had the urge to roll your eyes and snort, the look on her face seemed infinitely serious. Her eyes bore into your soul, and you couldn’t form the strength to look away. It was almost as if she was sizing you up, trying to deem you worthy of such a treacherous feat. Yet still, instead of taking it as a sign that maybe you should find another extracurricular activity to get your parents off your back, in your second-year naivety and rebellious nature, you assured Misaki that you could indeed handle it, and to ‘leave it to me’ as she gave you a doubtful yet hopeful gaze.

In your current position now, you could easily say that she was with full certainty trying to warn you.

Because while they did grow and learn from the absolute beating of the preliminaries last year, it didn’t change the nature of the team. They were still childish, which was only cute to a point, and still completely dependent on your leadership. The constant reminders to not fool around, to clean up after them, and the countless variations of ‘No Terushima, that’s not physically possible, put Futamata down.’

But on the other hand, you still don’t regret joining the team. Watching them evolve has definitely been the highlight of your final year in high school, and whether you wanted to or not, you’ve grown to care for the whole team.

Right now, however, the care has seemed to dissipate for one particular member.

“Where the hell is Terushima?” You mutter to yourself, glancing at the clock, then to Runa to which she gives a nimble shrug. Fifteen minutes had passed since the start of practice, and you were all currently waiting on the man of the hour, the captain. You let out a sigh of frustration as the grip on your pencil gets tighter.

“Okay,” You start, causing all the attention to go on you. “Anyone know where Terushima might be?” You get a bout of silence, before some shakes of the head and some shrugs. You turn to the other two main culprits, and your fellow third-years, Futamata and Okudake, for them to only look at you with just as much confusion as the rest.

“Last I saw Yuuji was before last period. Haven’t seen him since.” Okudake recounts a similar story, and you have to close your eyes for the wave of fury to subside.

“Alright, then. Guess I’ll have to go look for him and drag his ass back here. The idiot was probably after some girl and lost track of time.” You utter the last bit to yourself in distaste. While he was recently on the high of wanting to do well in the preliminaries, he never really could shake that fuckboy mentality of his. “The coach is going to be here in about 20 minutes, so I’ll try to find him before he loses it. I know he’s usually in charge of the drills, so Okudake, you’ll cover them for now. Remember the preliminaries are coming up; this is the chance to redeem yourselves. Don’t mess around. Runa, you’re in charge till I get back.” You delegate as they all nod, showing their understanding. You take another deep breath, before putting your notebook aside and walking out of the gym frustrated at the extra task you sure as hell didn't sign up for, leaving the boys to themselves.

“He’s gonna be the death of her.” Okudake chuckles.

“Nah. She’ll probably kill him first.” Futamata states before picking up a ball.

You can’t seem to stop muttering curses at the existence of Terushima Yuuji, all the while scouring the halls at all the usual spots he goes to either pick up girls or skip class. In the year you’ve been manager you’ve come to learn a lot about Terushima, albeit unwillingly, though it does come to help at times like these.

However, he wasn’t in any of them. Which was a little more than odd. Because with the multiple occurrences in which he has lost track of time, he was always in one of the untracked corners of the school. Could he have really gone home?

Now more than outraged, you slam the door of the staircase open to return to the gym, no longer caring if the coach chews him out, when you swear you hear the weakest utterance of your name. You pause. What the hell?

“[Name]? Is that you?” You recognized the voice instantly, but it was so much weaker, so much more lifeless than any time you’ve heard him speak. You were instantly worried. You ran up the stairs to find the one and only, Terushima, sitting on the stairs and the worst shade of green you’ve ever seen on a person. You have to forcibly hold in a gasp.

“Terushima? What in the hell are you doing here?” You can see the amount of effort it takes for him to lift his head. Eye bags prominent, sweat adorning his forehead.

He looked like death personified.

“I’m going to practice. I just needed a little break.” The sentences seemed to be too much for his lungs to take, because he immediately had a coughing fit afterwards, and you flinch with every sound that leaves his throat. It was not pretty.

But you couldn’t focus too much on that.

“What do you mean ‘going to practice’? You look like you’re dying! You’re clearly sick. You need to go home!”

“The preliminaries are coming up again. I need to practice.”

“The hell you are!”

“It’s not that bad-“

His raspy voice is cut off, by your grabbing of his head. He doesn’t have any time to process anything before you bring your face to his. Your cheek touches his moist forehead, to be met with a sudden burning sensation.

Just as you suspected. Fever. And a high one with that.

“Idiot. You’re burning up; and if you had any sort of brain that wasn’t already mushed up by the fever, you’d know that you wouldn’t even be able to do much.” Your voice has turned soft, and for some reason you still haven’t released his head. Perhaps it was this gentle attitude that causes him to lay his head into your hands, or the fatigue or the illness that was eating him upside.

Regardless, it causes your own face to heat up. You clear your throat.

“Okay, you need to get up. We can go to the nurse, and they can call your parents.”

“They’re away. Trip.” His eyes are barely open at this point. Once given the opportunity to rest, he couldn’t get up. His whole body was shutting down. You tsked at the unfortunate circumstances.

“Okay, I’ll call a cab and take you home.”

“What about practice?”

“It’ll be fine. Runa and the coach will be there. I can’t leave you like this.”

And you didn’t. You texted Runa all the details, telling her to tell the coach and others, all the while ordering an uber to take you and Terushima to his house. You remember the address from the countless times you’ve brought notes over to help him study for a test that he seemed to forget until the day before. The hard part was about to come.

Getting Terushima to move.

He seemed to be on low power mode, and still a couple seconds away from passing out. You weren’t even sure how he made it this far on his own. But, with all the strength you could muster, you grabbed waist and hoisted him up and to lean on you. He was warm, which was partially due to the fever but, it was a weight that was extremely comforting to you. He also didn’t smell terrible, which was odd to you. If he was in good health, you’d say that his scent wouldn’t even be bad.

Probably really good.

You shake away the intrusive thoughts, which soon come right back to you when you feel his hand grip your waist. Tightly. You squeak, surprised, but he didn’t seem to notice, only focused on standing upright.

It was for the better anyways, because he would’ve likely seen you blush all the way to the car.

You open the door to the car, and greet the driver quickly, before carefully placing Terushima inside, being mindful of his head and making sure he was comfortably seated and walking to the other side. He turns to you.

“Yo-you’re coming?” He asks weakly, and you roll eyes. “Of course I am, moron. You can’t even walk properly.” You mumble the last bit, but you were sure he heard because his expression changed to something you couldn’t quite place.

The ride consisted of the usual tension that came from uber rides, along with you making sure that Terushima didn’t fall asleep, knowing it would be a lot harder to get him up if he did. Finally, you got to his house, and thanked the driver while pulling Terushima up like a ragdoll and dragging him to his house. You unlocked the door with the keys from his bag and once opened, you scourged a place to put him, knowing damn well you wouldn’t be able to get him up the stairs if getting him down was such as issue. After some scanning, you managed to get him on one of the long couches in his living room. You let him down gently, not thinking too hard about his blatant refusal to let go of you for a few seconds. You put his stuff down and blow out a sigh.

Okay next steps.

“Hey.” You weren’t sure why, but you used a hushed voice. Maybe because he seemed extremely out of it now, but also because just the state of him made you feel a certain kind of way. A way you would’ve never thought you would feel. “Which room is yours? I’m going to bring some of your blankets down.” He groans a little.

“It’s too hot.” He says before coughing into his pillow, and you grimace. Yeah, okay you’ll deal with the fever first. Since you don’t know where his family keeps the medication, and you don’t think Terushima is the most trustworthy source at the moment, you decide to do the best you can. You go to the kitchen and get a small rag to put under cold water. You rung it out slightly, coming back to gently place the rag on his forehead. You hear him let out a sound of comfort, to which you give a sigh of relief.

You figured that once he cools down he still might get shivers, as true of any fever, so you decide to head upstairs and try to find his room. But you feel a slightly sweaty hand grab your wrist weakly.

“Stay.”

Terushima muttered it lightly, but it made your heart do a full flip. Was he usually this clingy when he was sick? You bit your lip lightly, bending down to his level. “I’m just getting you some blankets, I’ll be back.”

He held your hand for a while, before letting go, seemingly understanding that you were going to come back. You let out a huge breathe, rubbing your cheeks to rid them of your blush, before going upstairs to look for his room. You found it easily, and grabbed the blankets, bunching them up in your arms. You come back down and throw them on a chair in the living area, close enough for easy grabbing if he’d get cold.

“You came back.” Terushima notices weakly, and snort. “Yeah, of course. What, you thought I’d jump out the window?” You go to check on the rag, making sure it was still cold, trying to avoid eye contact. But you couldn’t avoid his tired eyes.

“With how much I bother you, it seems possible.” He seems to be forming longer sentences, which is a good sign. “Do you really think I’m that cruel?” He laughs quietly. “No, but you’re a hardass.” You roll your eyes.

“Yeah, cause you guys are stupid enough to pull shit like this.” Terushima shifts in his place, rotating to face you properly.

“Preliminaries are coming up. I needed to practice. I’m the captain.”

“Not to death, moron.” He stays quiet. You sigh. “Look, I admire your dedication, but you need to find a balance. Know when to put yourself and your health first.” He still doesn’t say anything, but shivers slightly. You immediately grab the blanket from the chair and cover him with it. “Told you you’d get cold.” Terushima clicks his tongue, piercing shining in the light of his living room. You take the rag of his forehead, using your hand to dab up any remaining moisture.

“You need to sleep it off. Get some strength back.” You order, getting up to rewet the rag.

“Will you be here when I wake up?” His question catches you off guard, his eyes watching your whole-body twist around, mouth open like a gaping fish. You take a couple seconds to formulate your answer.

“…Of course I will.” The answer leads him to give you a comforted smile, before closing his eyes, letting exhaustion take over.

“You’re a really good manager, you know.” And with that, Terushima is out like a light. You stare slightly, flustered.

“Thank you.”

Terushima wakes up with a slightly pulsing body ache, a sore throat, but not much else. He doesn’t know how long he’s slept for, but he did know it was deep. He sits up to see the sky darkened tremendously, and across the living room to clock to read that it was close to midnight.

He clears his throat uncomfortably. He winces at the pain.

“Hey you’re awake.” Your voice causes him to jump, muscles aching from the sudden movement, as he whips his head to you in his kitchen, stirring a pot over his stovetop. His look of confusion must’ve been evident, so you decided to fill him in.

“I made some soup with some things I found around the kitchen. Hope you don’t mind.” He watches you ladle some soup into a bowl and make your way to him. You give him the soup, smile comforting yet still worried.

“How are you feeling now?” He clears his throat again.

“Better.” Terushima’s voice is extremely hoarse, to which he starts to cough painfully. You grimace. “The soup should help with your throat. Then I’ll get you some cough drops.” He nods numbly. You sit across from him on the couch.

“Do you… still have a fever?”

“I don’t think so?” He still felt a little hot, but not nearly as badly as before. You hum. “Where do you keep your thermometer?” You ask, about to stand again, to which he stops you, putting the soup you had given him to the side. “Outta batteries…” He paused, before continuing, looking at you with a certain kind of intensity. “You could check the same way you did at the school.” He mumbled the last bit, and you reddened at the memory.

Right, you had repressed that moment. You were stressed and the movement had just come out of instinct. It was the way your mother did it. You looked to Terushima, who was having trouble keeping eye contact with you.

“Okay…” You moved slowly, taking his head in your arms, before pressing your cheek on his forehead. You stayed like for a couple seconds, having this action being much more intimate than before. You pulled away, staring deeply into his eyes.

“It’s better than before, but you’re still a little warm.” You practically whispered, still holding his head in your hands. You watch with slightly widened eyes when he cups your hand and nuzzles into your palm.

To your shock, you pulled away, leaving a slightly confused and hurt Terushima.

“Uh- You seem to be doing a little better though… And it’s getting a little late so- I- I’m just going to go. There’s more soup in the kitchen and I hope you feel better soon. See you on Monday, uh- Hopefully.” You stumble through your sentence, backing away slowly and grabbing your things, pulling his door open and quickly exiting.

You shut the door, breathing quickly, a hotness running across your face at the vivid detail of how nice his hand felt against yours as you ran to the bus stop.

hey all welcome to me rating hq schools based on how homophobic they are on completely arbitrary-not-arbitrary rules LET’S GET IT

(i feel like i need to clarify that high score = not at all homophobic and that low score = disgustingly homophobic hope that helps!!)

karasuno: 1000000/100000 i’m including BOTH teams in this to represent the whole school boys’ vbc i don’t even think i have to cite reasons BUT girls’ vbc i just know that poor little underclassman had a heart attack when michimiya grabbed her face like that

seijoh: i’m going to take off a point right off the bat bc i wanted to deck oikawa so bad the first time i saw him. 9/10 the day is saved because kyoutani and yahaba put so much yearning into that one panel and also because kindaichi has multiple breakdowns over what kageyama means to him every few days or so. kunimi would commit gay-on-gay crime but i’ll allow that he has the right to

date tech: i know for a fact we’ve all been kogane at some point in our lives and also i’m pretty sure all the first and second years were in love with moniwa at some point. onagawa’s nickname is pantalones. aone hyper focuses on the aces of rival teams. having nametsu as a manager is mlmwlw solidarity. 4/10 i took points away because futakuchi is a little bitch and isn’t afraid to show it and would accidentally come across as homophobic in the process when he isn’t

shiratorizawa: see this is tough bc tendou reads all that shounen and semi is SO gender and probably holes himself up in the dorm writing song lyrics about having the biggest crush on tendou and also goshiki and shirabu are obviously pining for their upperclassmen but ushijima has some SERIOUS repression going on and washijou looks like he’d say that being gay is a disease BUT i do think he’s open to learning so like. 6.5/10?

johzenji: they have cute nicknames for each other AND i think they’d kiss the homies good night. also terushima fell in love with daichi within the span of fifteen seconds. 7/10 i took away points because they think saying “no homo” while holding hands stops it from being homo

kakugawa: komaki, asamushi, and minamida all rotate the brain cell between them. they all look like middle schoolers next to hyakuzawa to the point where i keep forgetting they’re not. komaki does the glasses push so i’m giving extra for that. 7.5/10 because when hyakuzawa comes out to them they freak out (out of concern and trying to figure out how to best handle it!) and then freak hyakuzawa out so everyone is just freaking out for a full five minutes

wakunan: nakashima and tabi deserved SO MUCH MORE also i love tabi’s hair so 11/10 the extra 1 is for their break down

nekoma: 1000000.5/10 mostly because i’m biased but hello???? we have DIVERSITY here we can go rivals to lovers AND childhood friends to lovers AND friends to lovers all in one team. nekomata is self-explanatory. the .5 is because i already mentioned before that lev would be such a top tier ally if he wasn’t already swooning over kenma and yaku

fukurodani: akaashi will go on tangents about how historians will say they were just best friends. whenever yukie and kaori cuddle in front of everyone konoha makes gagging noises bc of how sickeningly sweet they are. it’s funny but i’ll be taking points off for that and also because bokuto once got the school computers infected with a virus trying to google “two guys making out”. 2/10

shinzen & ubugawa: i’m putting them together bc daiki and masaki are in love and eri and mako are in love. they go on double dates all the time and also chigaya is a bro he gets trusted with all the secret “dude i think i’m _____” talks and never tells a single soul about them 100/100

itachiyama: iizuna is the mlm awakening at itachiyama. iizuna was SAKUSA’S awakening. komori and sakusa fight because they say can’t both be the gay cousin. whenever iizuna interrupts their bickering they call him homophobic. 9/10 i subtracted a point because their uniforms make me want to claw my eyes out

nohebi: we all know daishou had a thing for kuroo way back when so like. also have you seen hiroo’s hair? those bangs are emo as hell what even is that. 8/10 because they’ll be homophobic against other teams in the middle of the goddamn game to bait them and the only reason they haven’t lost MORE points for that is bc i love kuguri

inarizaki: -117478492/10 i’ll fight miya atsumu myself. i don’t think he’s homophobic he just pisses me off sometimes

kamomedai: they get 475828929392/??? just because i love them so much

mujinazaka: usuri instills fear and admiration in me. also unann and mami are basically an old divorced couple who want to get back together but don’t know how to. honda probably gets shit on a lot for having his whole entire name sounding like car dealerships. ezo is the only one with a brain cell and for that i’ll give 8.5/10

niiyama: maiko doesn’t even know there are labels for it she just thinks girls are pretty and she’d kill for them 500/10

tsubakihara: the headbands are really cute and i like their motto 100/100

𝗨𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗷𝗶𝗺𝗮:

There was a practice match against a college in Tokyo. The team was currently winning by 22-13.I sat at the bench with Coach Washijo and Coach Akira as I took down some notes on improvements.Soon, we won the first set as all the boys were brought over for a water break and some time to rest after the intense match.

I gave my notes to Coach Washijo and handed out the boys waterbottles.I passed Ushijima's bottle to him as our hands brushed against each other.I took the towel wrapped around his neck to wipe the sweat dripping down his forehead ad he hummed in reply.

After the short waterbreak, I collected the bottles to fill it up as the boys gathered around the coach for 'critics'.

I was filling up the bottle one by one, not paying attention to my surroundings.I looked up as a guy slid beside me, leaning on the wall as he sent a smile towards me.

I could hear giggles from behind me, probably from his friends.He turned to me, chuckling awkwardly.

"Hey- uhm..I think you're really pretty and, I was wondering if you'd want to hang out-" The boy was cut off as he noticed Ushijima standing behind him.

"Let's go now, Love." He said, voice echoing through the quiet hallway.I nodded, holding the bottles, Ushijima helping.

We walked away from the boys as we walked in silence.

"Would you have accepted his offer?" His voice laced with a tone of jealousy.

"What..?"

"If we weren't together." He whispered.

"Of course not." I reassured.

"But he was a college boy-"

"I don't care, Ushi.I love you."

"But-"

"Ushi, you're the only one in my heart." I say as I see him relax slightly.

"I'm glad.."

𝗜𝘄𝗮𝗶𝘇𝘂𝗺𝗶:

The team was playing against Johzenji as a practice match.I sat in the bench with the coaches, helping out with manager duties.

Throughout the whole match with the school, I noticed the captain staring at me but I brushed it off.

After the game, Aoba Johsai was packing up to get on the bus to head back to school.I was holding Iwaizumi's volleyball jacket as he was busy helping.

I was talking with Kunimi, walking to the bus.I turned around, hearing someone call out;

"Hey, the pretty girl!"

The captain from Johzenji was approaching me.Kunimi had a look as he whispered, "Iwaizumi wouldn't like it.." and walked away, looking back in case.

"Hello, did you need something?" I smiled, as he stood infront of me.

"I was thinking if I could get your number and we can-"

"No." Iwaizumi cut him off as he appeared from behind him.He pecked my forehead, pulling my arm gently as we walked towards the bus.

"You didn't even let him finish, Iwa.."

"Too bad." He grumbled.

𝗕𝗼𝗸𝘂𝘁𝗼:

Bokuto and I had always returned home together after school, Akaashi following sometimes.Today he couldn't, being held by some duties.

Bokuto was slightly glad that we could be alone together without feeling bad for Akaashi, but he still didn't fail to show his affection when he was around.

Normally when classes finished, whoever was dismissed earlier would simply wait by the gate for the other.

My class was dismissed earlier this time, however, I was held back by a classmate asking me about a project we were assigned with.

I was worried in case Bokuto would start to overthink if I wasn't there in 5 minutes.I was finishing up the conversation as the door to the classroom opened.

"Y/NNN, what's taking so long- oh." Bokuto stopped to stare at the boy.

"Sorry, didn't mean to interrupt.." He quietly huffed, hair drooping slightly.

"It's alright, we're done." The boy smiled as he bid me goodbye, walking out of the class.

I smiled at Bokuto as I slinged my bag over my shoulder, reaching to hold his hand as we walked out of the classroom and through the hallways.

"Who was he?" Bokuto asked.

"A classmate, he was asking about a project we were partnered to do." I replied as I heard him grumble.

"So, you don't like him?" He asked, sounding happy.

"Of course not, Kou!I'm dating you remember, which means I like you." I say as he beamed.

"Y-yeah!I knew that!I totally wasn't jealous.." He laughed as I kissed his cheek.He smiled happily, gripping my hand slightly tighter this time.

what are ur thoughts on kiyoko as a character?

oh this is an interesting one!!! long post under the keep reading because i have lots of thoughts on kiyoko and women in haikyuu (the rest will prob get their own post)

in short, i think that kiyoko as a character is interesting (the confidence the dedication) but also limited by sexism in the narrative!!

kiyoko’s character is nearly entirely defined by her femininity and existence as a girl. when we first meet her properly, she’s objectified (hinata and kageyama staring at her chest and body). as the story progresses, she continues to basically only exist as an object of attraction + a source of motivation for the boys. she has a personality, but it’s a bit generic in that she’s shy and quiet and responsible (’ideal female character’). her most notable moments mainly involve the boys’ attraction to her (hinata shutting down when she tries to encourage him, suga’s comments about marriage).

and finally, she is plagued by the pervert trope. or rather, tanaka and noya embody the pervert trope and she is the victim of it. most of kiyoko’s screentime, especially in the earlier seasons, is dedicated to tanaka and noya’s attraction to her and the way they act on that. constantly being overprotective (taking away her agency), violating her personal boundaries (noya leaping at her and getting slapped + the ensuing respect the boys give noya after it), and generally treating her as more of an object than a person. yamamoto is an example of it too! it’s a common (and problematic) trope in anime and manga, and generally most forms of media. i hate it!! while this is all a gag and for the sake of comedy, it doesn’t change the fact that kiyoko’s character mostly exists in this context alone: either to be motivational because she’s attractive, or to be a subject of harassment because it’s funny and she’s attractive.

kiyoko gains more depth by season 2, when yachi is introduced. yachi is a fellow girl - around her, kiyoko’s behavior is more open. even then, though, yachi’s first reaction upon meeting her is objectifying her like the male characters do. she highlights all of kiyoko’s physical traits, even calls her sexy, sexualizing a girl she has never met on the grounds that she’s attractive. and sure, as the fandom we find it hilarious because it’s. clearly gay! but it’s part of a pattern in the story where kiyoko’s existence is nearly completely defined by her being a pretty girl.

we can’t forget how s2 also brings johzenji, and consequently, terushima (+ bobata) who outright harass kiyoko in a way that women/afab ppl/etc are ALL too familiar with irl. they corner her and refuse to understand that no means no, and it takes hinata’s interference to get them to stop. even after this, terushima continues to harass kiyoko, and it’s played for laughs. even smaller moments that involve kiyoko still objectify her. oikawa’s current concern pre-timeskip? kiyoko turned him down. yahaba and kindaichi comment on karasuno’s luck in having a beautiful female manager. over and over again, we see kiyoko defined as an object of attraction instead of as an actual person.

this OF COURSE leads me to season 4!!! when she gets her moment to shine!! there’s her moment at the shrine, where she displays her absolute confidence in her team in like. the most fucking awesome way possible. and then there’s the whole revelation about her being an athlete! and having her own passion and skills! and while i think that this is a great moment for kiyoko!!! and for her character as a whole!!! i do not think it outweighs the sexist tropes and treatment that surround her character throughout the whole of the story. it follows her even to the timeskip.

in fact, it follows her even to the fandom perception of her. if you go to her page on the haikyuu wiki, you get this stellar entry: She is most commonly described as an extremely attractive, albeit "erotic" girl who would often garner a lot of attention from both male and female students; including from other school teams. Because of her appearance, Karasuno High is generally known as the team with the beautiful manager. It’s absolutely mindblowing to me (not really. it’s to be expected) that a teenage girl is sexualized like this to the point where she’s described as ‘extremely attractive, ableit “erotic”‘. why is it even ‘albeit’. please tell me they’re not implying that people finding her erotic is a negative trait for her. pls tell me that the wiki is complaining about people sexualizing her. please.

anyways, kiyoko as a character is cool! she just. barely exists! we know that she’s funny, but only because she loosens up enough around yachi (another girl) to be that way! we know that she’s confident and determined from the way she speaks about her team when the show gives her the chance! we know that she’s capable because of all the responsibilities she shoulders (well!!!) that. barely get any attention. (because remember when she cooked for the whole team??? which. of course she cooks for them.)

so it’s just tragic to me that she gets treated in such a way by the story. like, sure, at least she gets more attention than narita, but. most of it is just sexist.

also btw im so curious about who sent this and what their thoughts on my response are. i’d love to see some feedback, even if it’s in the form of another anon ask or something like that!! or dms! sorry that this ended up being such a downer and a discussion of. sexism and misogyny.

#this is why i have 2 fics in the works abt her #one is about her dealing with sexism and femininity #and the other one is the kouichi fic which also involves sexism and femininity but through the lens of him being a trans man #i love haikyuu but there was an issue with the treatment of women #it could have been worse like other shounen but. it was still there #and i find it weird?? that the fandom overlooks it #like yes we have girlboss characters. yes we have characters like kanoka who choose to not be defined by men #but like the main female character who is there for the entirety of the story is. not treated in the best way #honestly weird to me how much the fandom loves characters like tanaka and noya and terushima??? like no i get it but its weird how #they don't acknowledge any of this behavior ever #like im not saying that ppl need to preface everything with a 'yeah i know this character did this'#but it's super weird to me how?? it's barely acknowledged ever?#in fact the fandom actually loves?? the behavior a lot of the time #ANYWAYS IM SO CURIOUS ABOUT WHO SENT THIS #truly #anyways #shimizu kiyoko #haikyuu meta #haikyuu!!#haikyuu #hq #not tagging everyone i mentioned #i just think she deserved better #clem's corner

Hinata Shoyo had found himself to be a lonely child for a very long time, unable to connect with others despite all his efforts in order to do so. That is, until one day he met a girl, and through that girl he found volleyball, and through volleyball he found what he had always been searching for, connection.

This story is a revamped version of my other story 'The Prefectures Perfect #10' which was based off another story which I deeply loved. I got burnt out and busy so I never finished it despite trying to restart it, but now I'm in a better place and wanted to try writing again with more of a plot this time! Haikyuu Band AU: Miyagi Girls

AU where all the Haikyuu dorks go to the same high school and are in the Concert + Marching Band together.

Michimia – Tenor Sax

Joined in middle school with Daichi and chose tenor to honor her grandmother who played it

Isn’t the best player but is always trying her best because she has a hard time finding motivation to continue practicing and playing when surrounded by such good players

Once tried to confess to Daichi with a tenor sax love song composition she found on Musescore (place people can put their compositions on)

It didn’t go as planned and she swears her friends Mao and Chizuru to never speak of it again (Daichi didn’t understand it was a love confession and complimented Michimia on her efforts to learn and play a piece so well and will definitely move up in chair placement if she keeps it up)

She does steadily climb up in chair placement and only realizes her senior year that she is really good, it’s just hard to shine when everyone else shines just as bright as you do

Loves band to death and wouldn’t change her experience for anything else in the world

Aihara Mao (#2 Karasuno Girls) – French Horn, Color Guard (Marching)

Joined in middle school with Michimia to support her (and her crush on Daichi)

Is the one to convince Michimia to confess via song (she has it recorded for prosperity of course)

Does Not respect slackers and will hound anyone who isn’t putting in enough effort into practice (she tried yelling at Kunimi once but after he showed he can still play and keep up with the rest she stopped)

Can be very sassy, not over the top sassy and not supper subtle sassy, the kind of sassy where afterwards you kind of question your existence for a good hour, especially when it comes to their musical skill level

Has a very good friendship with Kaori and rule field performances together

Sasaki Chizuru (#11 Karasuno Girls) – Flute

Joined in high school her first year to try something new, dove in headfirst, only knowing the basics a head of time due to researching it in preparation (made Keshin’s life a bit easier compared to teaching all the other high school band newbies)

Is the exact definition of the friendly, supper cute, can never get in trouble flute player

Doesn’t know how Suga and Yahaba became flute players, because… well, they’re them and does her best not to get on their bad side (which she will never be on because she is among the sweetest members in the band)

Exemplary calm squad member and always has a fun handy game to play during long pre-concert/performance rehearsals

One of the hardest to keep track off during band trips due to her always running off to load up on every souvenir her wallet allows for

Misaki Hana (Johzenji Manager) – Clarinet, Bass Drum 2 (Marching)

Been playing since middle school, and was a casual player at first, not supper committed till she entered high school and saw how far she could go when real passionate effort is put in

Takes crap from No One and she Will run you over like a bulldozer if you test her, especially for her band friends

Isn’t one to accept false praise, or to be lulled into a false sense of security about her skill level, and only accepts brutal honesty so she can improve correctly

Due to her no-nonsense attitude Keishin almost begged her to switch to drumline on her second day of band camp to provide some sort of stability for his current line up

She agrees cause who would turn down the opportunity to be on drumline?

Runa (Johzenji Manager) – Tuba; Pit (Marching)

Joins her first year in high school and is super intimidated by everyone so joins pit to start off in

Learns the most from Asahi who helps her practice her parts when he’s done with his drumline rehearsals

When concert season arrives, she leaves percussion for the tuba section cause they have the least rowdiest members of the band in it, even though they look the most intimidating

Struggled at first with the tuba (mainly with seating and proper playing position), but after Iwazumi and Ushijima’s gentle encouragements she catches up very quickly

Becomes really good friends with Yachi and Himekawa (Tsubakihara) and they have planned, controlled panic attacks together before performances (Yamaguchi joins them sometimes)

Kanoka (Niiyama) – French Horn, Mellophone/Color Guard (Marching)

Got ‘dragged’ into band one day after school by Tanaka when she was being bullied, the band director was like ‘thanks for showing up, here’s an instrument’ and gets really into it and excels because of course she does

Has a really good ear for pitch, not perfect pitch but pretty damn close, until she does after entering high school (Semi played a big part in that)

Sort of, kind of, maybe, wants to join color guard in high school but doesn’t feel like she fits into the aesthetic, being as tall and awkward as she is

Tanaka and Yonezawa convince her to go for color guard her senior year, emphasizing their color guard doesn’t have a specific aesthetic to them (they point to Fukunaga, Hanamaki and Nametsu for prime examples, and Yahaba during winter guard)

Is supper glad to finally let herself be in color guard her senior year and everyone there accepts her with open arms of course because this is Haikyuu still and everyone loves everyone and is supper supportive of each other

Yonezawa Maiko (#12 Niiyama) – Tuba

(First off, Haikyuu Wiki finally put a name to her so a huge thank you to whoever did that!)

Chose tuba when she first joined in middle school cause someone one told her girls can’t play big brass instruments (she made them eat those words when she beat them all out for first chair)

Assisted Mao in getting Michimia to confess to Daichi through the tenor sax love song (she’s a sucker for a good romance)

Races with Houshiumi with their sousaphones back to their dot during marching practice (Keishin has a mini heart attack each time they nearly collide with the other students when they aren’t paying attention to their surroundings)

Is all for her best friend Kanoka to do what she wants and promises to beat up the people who will get in her way

Freaks out when she first meets Goshiki because it’s like looking in a mirror (Goshiki, the poor boy doesn’t know what to do and Tendou is sent to address the situation)

Ootaki Mako (Shinzen Manager) – Trumpet

Started in middle school needing an elective, and liked how crisp her band director made the trumpet sound

Really enjoys marching band and practicing outside because even if they don’t move around as much as the sports teams, she definitely counts sweating buckets as her daily dose of exercise (now her parents can’t complain about her not being healthy)

Helps Osamu coordinate with the band parents in prepping the meals for the band

Hangs out with Mao and Kaori outside of school and band a lot (they love highlighting all the stupid shenanigans the second years get themselves into)

Adds a nice balance to the trumpet section and gets them to either calm down when they get all riled up or enables it to a point where the conflicting parties solve their problems with a fight to the death (in a completely civil and legal manner of course, she doesn’t want to give Keishin more paperwork)

Miyanoshita Eri (Ubugawa Manager) – Alto Sax

Been in band since elementary school, making music so ingrained in her she always has a tune stuck in her head at all times

Like she can hear full symphony concerts playing in her head while taking tests during class (it makes solving algebra more dramatic that it should be)

Sticker creator and collector and has decorated all of her band items with them (water bottle, instrument case, portable foldable music stand, music folder)

Assists Yachi in designing all of the band promotional materials and section shirts

Was super stoked when she was finally able to play in Jazz band in high school, now she can really let go with her skills during the impromptu solo parts
