Part 1

Sawamura Daichi loves to dress up your cat with small articles of clothing. Bow ties, little vests, and his favorite a mini police officer cap. He even keeps a small picture of Officer Meow with him for the occasions that he has to deal with small children. Your cat is an honorary member of the police force with their own miniature plaque.

Your poor cat is teased by Matsukawa Issei. Gently tugging their tail, putting his finger in their mouth when they yawn, and his personal favorite the laser light. Don’t worry though, your cat gets revenge by using his long legs as a scratching post, laying down with their butt in his face, and running off with his bedroom slippers.

Hanamaki Takahiro is a stay at home cat dad. Of course that’s not all he is, but that’s what he cheekily tells people. He even designed a whole cat room with shelves on the walls for your cat to run across. Once he started posting videos online of his interior cat design, he started getting paid requests for tutorials. You two and your fur baby have a very comfortable life all thanks to your kitty.

Your cat is a regular on Kozume Kenma’s channel. He even has a special cat bed next to his set up on his desk with a special camera so people can watch your kitty’s reactions. Your cat follows his avatar on screen and will meow demands. His followers enjoy interpreting those instructions for your man to follow. Even if your cat just sleeps, they still steal the show.

Futakuchi Kenji and your cat judge people together. Their favorite perch is a seat by the window where either your cat sits in his lap while he scrolls social media making snarky comments or they stare at your neighbors. You’ve had a few complaints that it’s disturbing but it’s worth it to come home and see both their faces looking out the window. It’s both hilarious and endearing.

Ushijima Wakatoshi has trained your cat to do simple tricks. He even took a video of your cat obeying simple commands like sit, and roll over to show his teammates when they didn’t believe him. Now your cat is a hot conversation topic for the Adlers. You aren’t sure if your kitty will jump through hoops like he wants, but it’s adorable to see your giant of a man try to bribe your fur baby.

Bokuto Kōtarō meows back at your cat. You have no idea what they’re saying but it’s a frequent occurrence to enter a room where the two are holding a conversation in cat language. Apparently, your cat informed him when their birthday is so now you can celebrate it. The two of them are adorable wearing tiny party hats.

Ojiro Aran and your cat work out together. He lets your cat choose his music by holding out his phone with various playlists on screen and they listen to whatever the cat touches. Your cat’s favorite is sit up’s, kitty perched on his knees and gets a little nose boop every time. He even got a little harness to take your kitty running with him. Your fur baby ends up being carried but it’s still cute.

Sakusa Kiyoomi has always had a thing for lint rollers. That only exemplified after you two got together. Yet, he treats your cat like an actual baby. Always brushing your kitty, trimming nails, wiping eyes, giving baths (to your fur baby’s chagrin), and kissing their little head. Of course, every cuddle session is followed by him furiously attacking himself with aforementioned lint roller. Your kitty has the best hygiene of any cat ever.

£ You could barely make out what he was saying through his hiccups, but you told him that you had to take your 4 year old to the bathroom because she had to use the bathroom.

£ He ultimately feels silly for crying over nothing and holds his little girl even tighter.

"Aw, dry your tears away, papa!"

£ For some reason, the tears fall even more.

£ Moral of the story: going to the bathroom is a family activity.

£ Now, you think it's a game, but he's secretly on high alert. Heightened senses and all.

£ The anticipation is getting to the 6 year old, and he stays hidden for as long as he can. Well, until his bladder betrays him.

£ If you've played an intense game of hide-and-seek, you know what I mean.

I'm Blaming the Full Moon

I posted twice here and it vanished. I double and tripled checked that I hadn't accidentally saved them as drafts instead of posting, but nope. I guess my boring little posts are just floating around out there with the rest of the space junk. Little words and photos that extraterrestrials won't understand. That's more fun to think about than the fact that the Tumblr server had a glitch and my posts just bounced off. I don't know how any of that works, so floating in space still seems like the more realistic option. BUT, I'm here, ready and willing to try again. I've spent a lovely couple of days puttering around the house. I put some mums out and I'm going to will them to live while we're gone. I just couldn't wait. Tomorrow I'll probably tidy up the yard a bit more in preparation for full blown fall. I imagine that by the time we return we'll see more color in the trees, we're seeing hints right now. Exciting!

On Monday morning we'll fly out of Baltimore, land in Toronto, then take off again for Dublin. We'll arrive in Dublin early Tuesday morning and shenanigans shall commence. We'll do a clockwise tour of the Emerald Isle. After a day in Dublin we'll head down the east coast to Wexford and Waterford, then turn west and head to County Kerry, Killarney, and finally Killorglin where our Air BnB is located. That will be our base for exploring the Dingle Peninsula, Ring of Kerry, and the Aran Islands. After about a week of that we'll say goodbye to Killorglin and head north to Galway (and points in between) for a bit and see what there is to see. Finally we'll leave Galway to head east toward Dublin again, visiting the Hill of Tara and anything else that caches our fancy. One last day in Dublin and then we'll wing our way homeward. I'm expecting to fall in love with the country. Mickey may have to drag my kicking and screaming onto the plane home. I'm packed, the house is clean, and we have a kitty sitter who will be popping in. I'll take the ol' laptop along and hopefully post a few times from the trip. If nothing else I can share some pics. Vogue Knitting Vintage Collection Which is Mostly 1960s

When I saw the title of this book printed in 2001, I got very excited by the subtitle: Classic Knits from the 1930s-1960s. Which is misleading as the overwhelming majority of the garment patterns are from the 1960s, are made of bulky yarns and are pretty simplistic. (there are also accessories and children’s wear and 5 men’s wear patterns). For the 1960s, see the multi-photo image with the blue Chunky Aran, the grey Chunky Turtleneck, and the Chunky Coat all from 1968 as well as the chunky Nordic-Style Ski Sweater from 1963. The lavender Mohair Turtleneck in 1964 is chunky in gauge but boasts a more interesting all-over cable pattern. Fashion in general tended to simplify in keeping with the Baby Boomer’s rejection of sophisticated styling in favor of simple, youthful styling. And younger people had fewer hand skills and no great intention of learning more. But if you want simple, shapeless patterns in bulky yarns, why bother going vintage when they abound in modern knitting patterns?

The older patterns tend to require finer yarns and more complex shaping and details. There is 1 sweater from the 1930s, the Tailored Seed-Stitch top you see in blue with white buttons in the multi-sweater photo, and 1 sweater from the 1940s which you see in taupe kitty corner from the blue, the Short-Sleeved Silk Top. The cover has a Cashmere Turtleneck from 1951. In total, there are 10 sweaters from 1950s patterns including the white boucle yarn Button-Front Jacket from 1954 that you see here, which has no shaping through the waist and the two Midriff Tops from 1952, ditto as they have no waists.

The lack of shaping even in some of the 1950s patterns gives you some idea of the amount of skill and effort that the editors imagined in their audience. They may well have been right. The only signs of wear in this book which I got from a public library, are the pages with the pink scarf which I end with here. It is a clever yet very simply made design that illustrates the basic principles of knitting laid out in that classic, Mary Thomas’s Knitting Book: horizontal welts of knitting naturally flare and vertical ones, aka ribbing, naturally shrink. So all you need to do is use the horizontal at the ends of this scarf and the vertical along its body. And yes, I do intend to whip one up myself.

Iconoclasts: Teegan! She’s great. She’s a minor character who only shows up like four times (post-credits scene included), but she makes up for it by being a total sweetheart and all around bro.

Shovel Knight: Tinker Knight! He was my back up when I wasn’t 100% sure I’d do Plague Knight. He’s surprisingly nice, if a bit paranoid and trigger-happy with his medieval mechas. His aesthetic is top-notch.

Metroid: Samus Aran! She’s a badass with a heart, and Metroid Prime was my first metroidvania and I absolutely adore it and the Metroid universe.

Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Josuke Higashikata! idk, I just like him.

How to Train Your Dragon: Toothless! Big kitty! The only reason I’m not more into the fandom is that my interest more or less died down after being made fun of for it and the passion is just... not there anymore. I still like it--I just don’t love it like I used to.

Sonic the Hedgehog: Knuckles! idk, I just like him. I think it might have to do with how you can abuse his gliding in Sonic 2, which wasn’t designed with him in mind, which is kinda shallow, but idk seeing him makes me happy and that’s what matters.

Castlevania: This time I am going with the obvious option and picking Soma Cruz! He’s awesome.

Full Metal Alchemist: Greed! He’s funny and way more 3D than I was expecting.

Gravity Falls: Grunkle Stan! While I was in the late stages of finalizing Plague Knight’s voice and attitude, I’d sometimes watch clips of his funnier moments for inspiration. I don’t think it’s suuuuper obvious, but you can kinda hear it when she talks casually about committing crimes.

Star Wars: I’m going to do something semi-controversial and say Finn from the newer movies! They did my dude so dirty and I’m still mad about it. It looked like he’d get lots of cool moments of continued character growth from just another stormtrooper to getting to be his own person and maybe even learn a bit about the force, but no. He gets sidelined as all of the promising plot threads go to shit.
