Holding Hands With Them (headcanons)

Warnings: gojo is a tease (to no one's surprise smh), mentions of nightmares in Maki's, messy kissing in Toji's =P, pet names (darling, pretty baby), none really this one's just wholesome fluff

A/n: I went very overboard writing this one so it's pretty long… yeah. Anyways, here are some fluffy headcanons to hopefully make you feel happier! <3 Enjoy reading!

Characters: Itadori Yuuji, Fushiguro Megumi, Kugisaki Nobara, Gojo Satoru, Nanami Kento, Ryomen Sukuna (Sukuna has his own body in this but isn't in his OG form and he's a jujutsu sorcerer), Zenin Maki, Okkotsu Yuuta, Inumaki Toge, Suguru Geto (basically high school Geto, before he became all you know), Toji Fushiguro, Naoya Zenin (he isn't misogynistic (for Fem!readers) cuz he loves you a lot!) x Gender Neutral!reader

Itadori Yuuji

He's so pure and cute omg ahhh he loves holding your hand anywhere, anytime. He doesn't feel that he needs a reason to do it at all, since you're precious to him and naturally, he'll want to hold onto something he wants to protect.

He's the kind of boyfriend who would hold your hand in public, private, even on missions. It gives him comfort that you're there, right next to him, and it's easier for him to make sure you're safe (especially on missions when he can pull you to the side in case of danger)

One of his favourite things to do when the two of you are holding hands is to swing the hand that's holding yours up and down. Yes it's a little childish and the last time you did it was probably it in kindergarten or something, but trust me with Yuuji it's going to be a norm 🥺

Because of how much he holds your hand, he can tell the smallest differences on your hand. You got a shallow cut on your finger? He can feel it when he starts to intertwine his hand with yours. Your hands are a little dry from the weather? He'll rub the area a little before finding cream to help relieve the pain really soon. Holding hands with you helps him look out for you, and it might not seem like much but he really does care a lot about your physical wellbeing, even if he's only checking your hands!

He likes fidgeting a lot with your fingers and it often leads to unintentional finger fights. It's random but also really cute at the same time because he gets really competitive about it and tries to win but if he doesn't, he gives you your prize, which is a kiss on your "winning" finger from him.

His hands are always so nice and warm, so he offers to be your personal hand warmer in the winter when the two of you are in either one of your dorm rooms. He'll hold both of your hands between his and it seriously does help warm your hands up instantly. He doesn't mind how cold his hands might feel after that, he loves being able to hold your hands no matter the situation <3

Overall, holding hands with Yuuji is a sweet and affectionate thing that you both indulge in everyday. It gives both of you so much comfort and never fails to put a smile on both your faces!

Fushiguro Megumi

He doesn't show affection in public much because well it's not really his thing. But holding hands? Yeah that's an exception. He'll never let go of your hand, even more so in public places where it could be crowded and busy.

He doesn't mind being teased by some people (cough cough Gojo) about holding your hand because it's just another way for him to show his affection and love for you. He knows he's not that good with words sometimes so he uses these opportunities to show how much you mean to him!

He squeezes your hand a lot and it's almost like there are different "codes" for when he squeezes your hand. If he squeezes your hand gently, it's probably him asking if you're alright. If he squeezes it a little harder than usual, it's probably because he feels uncomfortable in the situation you both are in. It's a silent yet efficient way of communicating and it's like a secret code between the both of you

He likes running his thumb up and down your hand but he does it in the most ticklish way possible? Like he does it so gently that it becomes ticklish and you start giggling sometimes, which confuses him because he was just trying to be gentle with you 🥺

His hands are cold. Just really cold most of the time. And he knows it and will use it to his advantage should he deem it necessary (when you're being mischievous =P). Otherwise, he always makes sure to warm his hands up before holding your hand so you won't get cold! And the best part about that is that after that, the warmth from your hands would warm his hands up, so he doesn't have to worry about his "cold hands" problem anymore.

He has really nice hands. Like they're a nice size, smooth and just overall really pretty and beautiful (just like him =)). And you love holding his hands up to your eye level and admiring them, which always causes him to show a small smile! Of course he'll return the favour and bring your hand up to his lips and press a kiss on it as a way of telling you how much he loves your hands too <3

Overall, he's really sweet and gentle when holding your hand! He's not that good with expressing his feelings and he knows it, so holding hands often is one way he feels he can express just how much he loves you!

Kugisaki Nobara

Holding hands comes easy to the two of you. It's been a part of your relationship since the start and the two of you absolutely adore doing it! It gives the both of you comfort that you're both there for each other.

She loves holding your hand anywhere, anytime. It's one of those things she considers "basic" in a relationship, and it just comes naturally for her to be holding your hand whenever she can. Whether it be going out with her, in the car before missions, and at night when the two of you are watching movies together, the two of you will always be holding hands.

When shopping with her, your hand will definitely be intertwined with hers. And she really likes it since it's really easy for her to just tug on your hand a little or straight up pull you to what she's looking at when shopping! She has the tendency to squeeze your hand when she gets excited while the two of you shop too. It's easy to tell what excites her the most (which is basically what she wants the most) by how hard she squeezes your hand!

If you are keen, she would love to have manicures with you to match the colours on both of your nails! She makes sure to choose colours according to both of your tastes, and makes sure that they don't clash too much. She wants to make sure that when the two of you hold hands, the colour of your nails complement each other nicely!

Most of the time (when not shopping), she holds your hand really gently! The two of you hold hands in a way that it's loose and comfortable for the both of you, but not too loose that your hands will separate! And your palms don't always have to be touching each other, just intertwining fingers with you is enough to make her happy <3

Her hands are really well taken care of, and she puts in quite a bit of effort to make sure that her hands are smooth and nice. Please kiss her hands after holding them and tell her how much you love her beautiful hands, she literally gets so flustered and shy 🥺

Overall, she really loves holding hands with you and it's a norm in your relationship for sure! It gives her a sense of comfort and safety, your interlocking fingers reassuring her that you are just next to her.

Satoru Gojo

He absolutely loves holding your hand! Like no matter what he does he feels the need to have your hand in his, as a form of affection and reassurance to him that you're still by his side.

Will hold your hand no matter what. Showering together? He'll hold your hand when the two of you are chilling in the bathtub. On a mission together? He holds your hand to keep you close to him and to pull you out of danger if needed. Folding laundry with him? You'll have to settle it with one of your hands and one of his hands only.

He'll turn on his infinity just as you reach out to hold his hand, and tell you to "profess your undying love" for him before he'll let your hand reach his. If you choose to do as he says, he'll definitely smile at you and then press a kiss on your hand before placing it in his own. If you choose to ignore, he'll pout and whine, but will still reach out to hold your hand because he wants to hold your hand too much. So either way, he'll end up holding your hand <3 (if he's been annoying don't be afraid to do the latter, he knows how annoying he can be so he'll accept his fate)

He always caresses the back of your hand with his fingers! It's like his way of telling you that he loves you, that he's thankful to have you by his side and that he's happy that he gets to hold your hand. And if you do the same to his hand, you'll see a large and loving smile on his face, one that you see whenever you show how much you love him 🥺

Will kiss each one of your knuckles when holding hands with you! He does it at the most random times, and for no reason most of the time. He just wants you to know that he loves you (and your hands) a lot and expresses it that way! He likes seeing your cheeks flush red from the sudden affectionate gesture.

He loves making his hands cold on purpose before holding your hand. If he ever holds your hand without teasing you about it (basically by not turning on his infinity), he's either touch starved after being away from you for a long time (which to him is more than 8 hours), or he has something up his sleeve. He'll take an ice cube and let it melt on his hands, dry his hands and then immediately go to hold your hands. He loves watching the way you jump up from the sudden coldness of his hands and he always laughs at your reaction.

Overall, he doesn't stop being a tease before holding your hand, but he makes sure to make sure you know how loved you are when your hands are actually in his and your fingers are intertwined.

Nanami Kento

This man is so… perfect. He holds your hand not just as a sign of affection and love, but to protect you and make sure that you're ok every now and then. He always treats you with so much care and when holding hands with him, you can be assured that he treats you like the most precious thing in existence.

He isn't much into PDA, but his immediate priority and need is to protect you and make sure that you're next to him. So he always makes sure to hold your hand in crowded places and during the missions the two of you go on together (before engaging in combat because he prefers giving you freedom to use your technique properly, without him potentially being in the way).

He's the kind of boyfriend who'll kiss your hand before and after holding it. He'll ask you for permission to hold your hand and when you give him consent to, he'll raise it to his lips and press a soft kiss on it as a way of saying "thank you". And before he lets go of your hand, he does the same thing and always mutters a quiet "thank you for letting me hold your hand, darling" <3

His favourite thing to do is to hold your hand when the two of you are at home, cuddling or just resting on the couch together! His hand will always be intertwined with yours, no matter what. If he's reading a book, he'll be using one hand to hold it and to flip the pages while the other is holding your hand. And if the two of you are watching a show together, he places both of your hands in his!

His hands are super smooth and beautiful. Like his fingernails are a nice length, and his fingers are just so long, slender and pretty. He has super nice hands, and you always hold one of his hands in both of yours and just admire it quietly when the two of you are cuddling on the couch together. He'll always notice and bring your hands to his lips as a way of telling you that he thinks your hands are equally beautiful 🥺

Whenever it gets cold, Kento will definitely be holding onto at least one of your hands. It's a way for him to tell if you're feeling too cold, and also a way for him to warm you up. He has really nice and warm hands, so he uses that to his advantage to help your hands feel less cold. If your hands get really cold though, he'll ask you to put on some gloves. Don't worry, he still holds onto your gloved hand afterwards!

Overall, holding hands with him is a super sweet aspect of your relationship! He takes it as a chance to express his affection while looking out for you and making sure that you're alright!

Ryomen Sukuna

He loves holding your hand and feels the need to do so every given moment. He likes that it gives him some control over you (in case anything happens to you), and at the same time is an affectionate and sweet gesture.

He holds your hand mostly in public, since he prefers other intimacies when the two of you are alone, like cuddling. He'll hold your hand especially tight in crowded places and when going around the mission site to find the curses you have to defeat. He still treats you like glass though, and he never holds your hand to the point that it hurts!

Yes, Sukuna gets possessive and jealous easily, especially if you're talking to people who you don't know for no apparent reason. Whenever he sees someone approach you, be it to get directions or to flirt with you, he grips onto your hand tightly and glares at them until they get intimidated and walk away. He'll loosen his grip on your hand afterwards and kiss your hand as an apology for being possessive and a little rough with you.

He finds it fun how the two of you manage to hold hands while doing all sorts of things. When making dinner for the both of you, you tend to sneak up behind your boyfriend and hold his hand. He doesn't mind though, because most of the time, you only hold his hand when he doesn't need to use both of his hands. He'll use one of his hands to stir and mix the food while the other is intertwined with one of your hands. He's super used since it's been like a tradition ever since the two of you started being in a relationship together <3

Likes to prank you by putting cling wrap on his hand before holding your hand. It happens a lot especially after he washes up and is waiting for the food to finish cooking! He'll just put a thin layer of cling wrap on his hand and since he knows that you never look down at his hands when he moves to hold your hand, he knows that his plan will work. It always makes him laugh when he sees your surprised and annoyed expression, but you don't stop him from pulling this prank almost every other day, since you want to see him laugh 🥺

He loves bringing your hands to his eye level and admiring your hands for at least a few minutes each time. He really loves you so much, and he can't help but want to admire every part of your body over and over again. He'll always press kisses all over each of your hands after he's done looking at them, and calls you his "pretty baby".

Overall, Sukuna truly makes sure that you feel loved when holding your hand. Yes, he might get possessive and yes, he might prank you from time to time, but he really just wants you to be safe and happy!

Zenin Maki

She absolutely adores holding hands with you! She might not be super comfortable with all forms of affection since she's still getting used to it, but holding hands is something she absolutely loves!

She doesn't initiate hand holding most of the time though, despite the fact that she enjoys it a lot. It just doesn't come as naturally to her, so most of the time she doesn't process that she can just reach for your hand and hold it. You'll have to initiate it most of the time; she'll always be happy to hold onto your hand as long as you offer it to her.

She mostly initiates hand holding when she senses that you're feeling upset or sad. She knows what it's like to have no one to turn to and not having any hand to hold on to when feeling all those negative emotions, and she doesn't want you to go through that. The moment she sees a frown on your face, or tears well up in your eyes, your hand will be in hers. She'll stroke your hand with her thumb to try to calm you down too.

She doesn't hold your hand before going to sleep, but your hands are always near each other's. And somehow, her hand always gravitates towards yours in the middle of the night and the two of you wake up to find your hands intertwined. It happens mostly when Maki gets nightmares. She senses the warmth of your hand and her hand will just move to hold yours as a source of comfort and reassurance that you're still next to her 🥺

Hand holding before bed is a must though! The two of you make sure to cuddle and relax in bed before going to sleep, and your hands are always intertwined no matter what you both are doing. Be it watching a movie together, or scrolling through your phones, you both will be holding hands!

She especially enjoys holding hands with you before, during and after training! Your hands are intertwined until the two of you reach the training venue, and then you both press a kiss on each other's hand as a form of encouragement! In between training, when the two of you get a break, her hand will be in yours as you both hydrate. And after training, no matter how sweaty both of your hands are, you and Maki will walk back to the dorms hand in hand, ready to relax and chill together <3

Overall, holding hands with Maki is something that happens everyday, and you both like it a lot, even if she won't admit it out loud. The two of you are often seen holding hands, and you both bask in each of those moments, enjoying the feeling of your hands being pressed against each other and your both of your fingers interlocking.

Okkotsu Yuuta

Yuuta is a super sweet boyfriend! He'll take any opportunity to be affectionate with you and he definitely loves physical touch! He's going to be holding onto your hand as much as possible, as long as you're comfortable with it.

Pinky holding that turns into hand holding! He always starts by linking and interlocking both of your pinkies together. Slowly but surely, he'll start to slip his hand into yours and intertwine them, his thumb stroking your hand gently. It's more of a habit from the start of your relationship when he didn't know if you wanted to hold hands or not, but he's continued it and he still does it.

He might be a special grade sorcerer with loads of experience, but he still gets nervous before missions, especially if he's on a mission with you. On the way to the mission site, he'll hold onto your hand and squeeze it every now and then, just as a way to reassure and comfort himself, and you as well. Your touch is more than enough to make him feel safe and sound <3

Expect lots and lots of hand holding during movies! No matter what kind of movie it is, Yuuta's hand would always be intertwined with yours, squeezing it from time to time. When you're watching a really scary horror movie, he'll hold on to your hand like his life depends on it, and watching a romance movie, his thumb would be stroking your hand gently. Just expect hand holding as long as you both are watching a movie!

He's the kind of boyfriend who likes to hold your hand up to your lips and say things like "your hands are so beautiful, just like you", or "how are your hands so perfect, my darling?" while kissing your hand in between each of his words. He really just wants you to realise how beautiful he thinks you and your hands are 🥺

He loves holding your hand in public and he's so cute about it. If he sees something that interests or excites him, he'll tug your hand gently and bring you to look at it. Most of the time, it's related to you and he just gets really eager to show you!

Overall, he's such a sweet boyfriend when it comes to holding your hand! Yuuta loves holding your hand as much as possible, since holding your hand gives him lots of comfort and makes him really happy to have someone like you love him!

Inumaki Toge

Toge loves holding hands so much! He can't exactly express his feelings for you through his words because of his cursed speech, so physical affection has become his default way of making you feel loved.

He holds your hand whenever it's free, and he always holds it close to him as a way of asking for permission to hold it! The two of you hold hands when taking a break during training, on dates, and practically any time you don't need both your hands to function.

He loves twirling you around when the two of you are holding hands! Yes, it's random and the both of you don't really dance together, but he just enjoys doing it! Sometimes, he just stops in the middle of nowhere randomly and kisses your forehead before twirling you around like you're a ballerina, with his hand still intertwined with yours. He seldom does it in front of people though, it's mostly when the two of you are alone <3

When he holds your hand, he has the habit of tracing small drawings on the back of your hand with his fingers. He especially loves tracing onigiri! It's become a game between the two of you too, and the two of you take turns tracing patterns on the back of each other's hands while the other person has to guess what was drawn!

He really likes holding hands with you when you wear one of his oversized hoodies! The sleeves are too long and reach down to around your knuckles, and Toge loves holding hands with that small portion of his hoodie… just there. It makes him feel really lucky to have you by his side, wearing his hoodie and holding his hand! He loves that his fingers can reach the inside of the sleeve when he holds your hands, it just gives him a sense of comfort that he can't exactly explain.

He holds your hand to sleep every single night! It reassures him that you're right by his side as he sleeps, and the warmth of your hand in his helps lull him to sleep too! No matter how close your bodies are, your hands will find their way to each other (and will rest in a comfortable position) and will stay intertwined throughout the night 🥺

Overall, holding hands is one of his favourite things to do with you! It's sweet and provides the both of you with each other's warmth and comfort! Toge definitely sees holding hands as one of the most important things in your relationship, and he truly enjoys it a lot!

Suguru Geto

Suguru is someone who loves holding hands, but won't openly express it. He doesn't want to make you feel uncomfortable by his overwhelming need to have your hand in his all the time, but you've told him time and time again that it's fine to hold your hand whenever he wants.

As a result, your hand is almost always intertwined with your boyfriend's. The both of you just really enjoy the feeling of your skin being in contact with each other and the warmth radiating from each other's hands. And even if it's cold and the two of you wear gloves, the two of you will still be seen walking hand in hand despite not being able to feel each other's skin and warmth. It's just the feeling of having each other close that makes the two of you happy, really 🥺

He's always so polite and asks for permission to hold your hand every time. It was more of a matter of consent at the start of your relationship, but now he uses it to tease you, since he knows that you're more than fine with him holding your hand anytime he wants. He'll still place your hand on top of his and ask, "May I hold your hand?" in the most teasing way possible every time he wants to hold your hand.

Whenever the two of you go shopping together, he'll hold onto your shopping bags for you. He honestly just wants to make sure that your hands are free for him to hold onto no matter what. And once you find out, you offer to hold some of the shopping bags in the hand your boyfriend isn't holding onto just to lessen the load on your boyfriend!

When it rains, he likes to hold onto your hand and either stick both of your hands out from under the umbrella or run around in the rain with you. Of course, he knows that the latter could cause you to fall sick, which is why he hardly does it. But sticking out your intertwined hands out into the rain? Absolutely yes. It's calming for him to feel the raindrops fall onto his hand, and with your hand in his, it makes the whole experience even more fun and relaxing.

Likes holding your hand and placing it right in between both of you at night, before you both go to sleep. He'll bring your hand closer to his and place kisses from your fingertips to your knuckles on each and every single one of your fingers, before placing 3 kisses on the back of your hand. He never fails to do this every single night, and he loves seeing your eyes light up everytime he does it <3

Overall, hand holding is something Suguru loves and craves really often. But no matter how many times the both of you hold hands, you both make sure that you can feel each other's love behind the seemingly simple, yet meaningful, action.

Toji Fushiguro

He loves holding your hand! It gives him the sense that he has someone to hold onto and rely on. He's been through way too much, and the fact that he's able to hold your hand makes him feel that maybe, all the pain he went through in the past was worth going through if he had you to hold onto now.

He holds your hand all the time and doesn't let go unless you do. He takes hand holding seriously, and to him, it's a way to protect you and pull you away from any danger. After he realises that danger isn't always around the corner, he starts to feel the enjoyment and intimacy of holding hands with you.

He didn't always start out by holding your hand though. At the start of your relationship, he used to grab you by the wrist instead of intertwining his hand with yours. It was partially because he wasn't used to hand holding and felt that it was awkward to initiate, and also partially because he felt that he didn't deserve to hold your hand at the start of your relationship. He wanted you to be sure that you wanted to be with him before holding hands with him. Of course, you had to reassure him that you truly did love him and wanted him to hold hands with you multiple times before he got used to it.

His hands are large and really nice to hold! They're calloused and rough, and there are many small scars littered all over his hands from everything he went through. If you ever bring his hands close to your lips and press soft kisses all over his scars, he'll melt on the inside for sure! He won't show it, or admit it out loud, but he feels that it's a very sweet gesture and he definitely feels really loved whenever you do it. It reminds him that you love all of him, scars and bruises included 🥺

He loves it when you're sitting on the couch or on the bed with him and he just holds onto your hand really tight before bringing it to his lips. He'll place wet and messy kisses all over your hand while you squeeze his hand to encourage him to keep going. He'll switch over to your other hand not long after and give it an equal amount of love and kisses <3

Secretly enjoys it when you're holding his hand, but your fingers aren't interlocked and are gripping the side of his hand instead. And when you drag him around to look at different things while holding his hand like that, he feels like he's in a dream. He's only ever seen such a thing happen in romance movies, but to be able to experience it with you… he truly feels like the luckiest person on earth.

Overall, he loves holding hands with you so, so much! Your hand in his makes him feel safe and protected, and he hopes that he can make you feel the same way whenever he holds your hand!

Naoya Zenin

He's not good at being affectionate, he knows that. But he's trying his very best! One thing he makes sure of is that in your relationship, both of you are comfortable with holding hands with each other.

He tries his best to pick up on your body language and decides if he should hold your hand or not from that. If he senses that you're scared or upset, he'll try to reach for your hand and let you hold his hand if you want. Otherwise, you'll have to initiate most of the time because he genuinely doesn't know if he'll piss you off by holding your hand without asking you.

He always touches your hands with his fingers before holding your hand. It's his way of asking for permission to hold hands with you, and the last thing he'll want is for you to push him away because he didn't realise that you didn't want to hold hands. He'll use his index finger and try to link it with your own, and slowly but surely, it leads to full out hand holding.

He's quite insecure and scared to initiate hand holding with you because "what if it's not convenient for them?". Naoya gets that thought really often and sometimes, he doesn't try to initiate any hand holding in fear that he's annoying you. So then it's up to you to initiate it! When he gets extra fidgety and starts playing with the hem of his shirt or fidgeting his hands in his pants pockets, that probably means that he wants to hold your hand, but is too scared to initiate it. Please please hold his hands if that happens, he'll smile and mutter a quiet "I love you" <3

Likes it when you squeeze his hand from time to time. It doesn't have to be for any particular reason at all, it just gives him the reassurance that you're still next to him. He's been through a lot in the past and lots of people have left his side because of how he used to be, but with your hand in his and your gentle squeezes, he doesn't feel lonely and alone 🥺

He especially loves holding hands with you in the rain. He'll use his other hand to hold the umbrella and shelter the both of you, while the hand closer to you is intertwined with yours, his hold on you gentle and comforting. He loves the whole atmosphere of walking together in the rain while you're holding hands so much, it's very magical to him!

Overall, he's still trying his best to initiate hand holding, and he's getting better at it slowly but surely. In the meantime, you'll have to take the initiative and fulfil his desire to have your hand in his.

i’ve seen some people say that if gojo didn’t meet geto, he would’ve turned out like naoya. and as open as i am to different interpretations, this is just…plain wrong.

naoya always felt like he had something to prove, despite the overconfidence he typically exhibited. he was born as a prospective successor to the zenin clan (the “true heir,” according to him), but toji was obviously more powerful than he was despite having no CE, and even in the rival clan, gojo was regarded as the child who tipped the balance of the world. naoya had this huge inferiority complex and that lended to his misogynistic tendencies, resulting in him trying to exert his dominance to show that he can live up to his aspirations and be on par with toji and gojo. also, gege made it a point to show how power-hungry the zenin clan was—always keep in mind that naoya grew up in a culture that valued superiority over everything.

gojo, on the other hand, simply is. he’s everything naoya is not—undeniably powerful and full of infinite potential. unlike how the zenin clan was portrayed, we don’t know much about the gojo clan and i think that was done with purpose. the zenin clan had to be introduced because we needed exposition for maki, mai, naoya, and toji (and megumi); we needed to understand how and why they turned out the way they did. gojo is the only gojo clan member we know, implying that we as readers have nothing substantial to learn from the introduction of the gojo clan (at least nothing substantial relating to the plot of the story just yet, nor would it add anything substantial to gojo’s characterization—he can stand as his own character without family background exposition).

naoya and gojo have always been different from the start. naoya looks down on people because of his insecurities disguised as arrogance, while gojo understands he’s treated the way he is because he was born the pinnacle of jujutsu. if gojo “looks down” on people, it’s not out of entitlement, but simply because he is that powerful.

(if anything, for him to put aside his sheer power to yearn for human connection, to want to close the gap between him and his allies—it’s all a testament to how painfully human he is.)

i’m not sure why people think gojo meeting geto prevented him from becoming misogynistic (actually, i do know why they think this way), but i think it’s unfair to dismiss the fact that geto was just as much of a little shit as gojo was. are we forgetting how they were both introduced in the hidden inventory arc? they both dunked on utahime! yea, sure they did it in different ways (gojo being straightforward and snotty, and geto going the roundabout backhanded route), but they were both just as bad as the other, both incredibly insufferable.

i wouldn’t say that it came from a place of insecurity (like naoya); it’s more like they both genuinely thought they were better than other people in general, regardless of circumstance. and they weren’t wrong about that—remember, they were two 16 year old teenage boys who were already classified as special grade sorcerers. of course, they’d be insufferable and annoying! they could’ve literally taken on the whole world together!

yes, geto was a monumental figure in gojo’s life—the memories linger and everything he does afterwards is tinged in geto’s absence, but that doesn’t mean his connection to geto is the only thing that characterizes him. he’s his own person now and he can live without him, despite their history. yes, he carries that grief for life, but since when did grief define you as a person?

yuuji cooks for you. whether it be making you dinner when you come over for a date or making your lunch for school. he would be the type to make super cute bentos with the pictures made with seaweed. he also cuts everything into the sizes you like. he always waits to take the first bite so he can better see your reaction when you do. the smile and glow in your eyes fill him more than any meal could

megumi walks to the side where cars come from. whether it be walking on the side of the sidewalk closer to the road, closer to the middle lane in a parking lot, or walking between you and oncoming traffic when crossing the road. he always has a hand on you too just in case, usually, he prefers to rest it on the small of your back, but he also wraps his arm around your waist.

nobara buys things you like or she'll think you like them whenever she goes anywhere. she loves bringing the spoils of her travels back to you, a metaphorical tail wagging. she also gets things that remind her of you, like something from a show you watched together, or the candy she saw you eating before she left. like a crow who collects shiny things to bring back to the nest.

yuuta waits up for you when you get home late. if it's you coming back late from a mission, he'll be in the common area. if it's you coming back from a home visit, he'll be on the porch to help you with your bags. if it's you coming back from class and he gets back first, he's waiting outside your room. if he knows that you'll be gone overnight he sleeps in your room, not very peacefully, but it allows him to at least get a few hours.

maki orders for you. whether its placing reservations, ordering your food, or making a complaint for you, she's got it handled. she knows that these things can make people nervous and she doesn't every want you to feel like that if she can prevent it. whenever you go out as a class and she can't, she makes panda or yuuta order for you. because toge kinda can't.

toge leaves you notes. he leaves them on your bag, on your pillow, on your door, anywhere you have to look. usually they're a little compliment (ex. "your hair looks really pretty today") and a little doodle of him, you, or some random thing. he writes them on these little note cards that have onigiri designs along the border. it's how he makes up for not being able to say sweet nothings to you.

satoru carries your things for you. unless it's a cursed tool or something that you may need in a moments notice, it's in his hands. when you go shopping he is happily trailing behind you with all of you things. if you're going on a trip he carries both of your suitcases, he tries to carry all carry-ons as well but if he can't he'll give you the lightest one(s). he carries all the groceries in one trip too.

suguru always drives. if you need to go anywhere he's got his blacked-out benz's keys twirling idly around his finger. he puts his arm behind your headrest so he can turn around fully when backing out. puts his arm in front of you if he has to suddenly break. keeps his hand on the center console so you can hold hands. you get the aux, he likes your music.

toji doesn't pay attention to anybody but you. whether it's some random person flirting with him from across the room, he doesn't spare them a second thought unless you bring it up. sometimes he doesn't even notice cause he's too busy watching how the amber glow of the dying sun highlights your face and makes your eyes sparkle when you turn to him.

kento does the mundane things for you. if you're complaining about needing to fill your tank, he'll do it and pay for it. he starts you coffee for you so that when you wake up it's already made and cooled down. he starts the bath for you when you get home. he lays out your keys, purse, and other things on the table for you before he leaves.

sukuna scares away any and all danger. curses, humans, sorcerers, you name it; none of them with bad intentions dare to even look at you with him around. if they think you're alone and try to take advantage, he's already behind them. sometimes he disposes of him while you look away from him, he's back intact by the time you've turned around, a small splat of red on his cheek? its surely just the jam from the crepe you bought him.

choso listens to everything you say. he listens intently, his eyes never leave you except to briefly blink or if he sees motion. he looks at you like you're preaching when you're talking about this cloud that you saw that looked like a turd. nods intently and lets out soft 'mhm's while his elbows rest on his knees. leaned towards you like plants lean towards the sun.

Satoru’s been sealed for what feels like an eternity, but he knows better. Once’s he’s out of the box, he knows he’s got things to do and fix. The first being to find you, his favorite pupil, and hold you enough to know how much you mean to him: that you’re more than just his cute, favorite student.

Nineteen days seemed to have passed as both an eternity and as quick as a blink of an eye. How that was possible not really he himself could understand. But that wasn’t important. That was anything but important in his eyes.

What was important was getting back to his friends, getting back to his students.

Getting back to you.

Nineteen days in that cube of eternity had changed him. It had brought to light many things, about himself, the people around him, and all sorts of things he’d never imagined would cross his mind.

But in the Prison Realm, all he had was time. Things he’d never think about otherwise were all Satoru could think about.

How much he didn’t need to be or feel like the strongest; how much he realized he could finally rely on other people — his students — to take care of harder missions. He would always be the strongest sorcerer, people would always fear him, but no longer would be have to do things by himself; Gojo Satoru would always be feared and hailed as the most powerful, but he would have people almost as strong as him by his side.

He would have you by his side.

You weren’t among the group when he arrived. Maki, Yuuji, Yuuta, Ieiri… Even Kinji and Kirara were here. There were also some new faces he’d never seen before.

Maki looked so much different. Her burn scars made her look more fierce, more badass. But overall, she reminded him of Toji, so much so that it made Satoru want to shiver from the memory of his aura.

Everyone had clearly changed. Even Kinji and Yuuta, who were already strong, had changed, developed and gotten more powerful.

Yuuji for sure, even without Sukuna inside of him.

But… where were you?

“She was injured after Sukuna took over Megumi’s body,” Maki told him as he stared at his student, who’s eyes looked twice her age.

Just like all the other students did.

Gojo wondered what you looked like — if you had changed or stayed the same.

“But Ieiri-san healed her,” Maki continues, “so she should be here—”

“—right now.”

Your voice makes him turn instantly, faster than anyone’s ever seen him move (that wasn’t teleporting).

His pretty blue eyes widen fully as they land on you, but he manages to keep his mouth closed.

You still possessed the same innocent twinkle in your eye when he first met you, but at the same time, he could clearly see you had changed. (Both of you had changed.)

In appearance, as well. Your arms and body were more toned and muscular, and the scars… made you look even more pretty, more beautiful than you were.

He wondered who he’d have to kill for giving you those…

You had to, really. You wouldn’t have survived the Culling Games had you not.

He’s no longer seemingly the dorky menace to society he used to be. Something about him seems to have… matured.

Gojo’s long legs take about four strides forward and he’s enveloping you wholly, holding you in his arms and pressing you firmly to his large chest, big hand cradling the back of your head. Your arms wrapped around his neck, nose pressed to his collarbone.

Like lovers do; how lovers hold one another.

It wasn’t that big of a secret, honestly. Everyone knew. It was just a matter of fleshing out the relationship you had with the older man and the feelings that came with it before genuinely jumping into it.

You press into his firm chest, relishing in the feeling of him, of how close you were. You almost wanted to giggle at the feeling of his bare arms being wrapped around you. It sure beat that jacket he always wore. It wasn’t like he didn’t ever take it off for you, but he liked that annoying jacket just a little too much.

Only about three seconds truly pass before you and Satoru are sinking into one another’s embrace, the tension releasing and hold of each other becoming more relaxed, filled with comfort.

His strong arms tighten around you and he whispers solemnly, a tone of adoration mixed in, “I’ve missed you, [Name]-chan.”

You burrow your nose into his collar deeper, closing your eyes and inhaling his scent. He smelled the same as he did nineteen days ago, but he also smelled of… sweat?

Had this man seriously been training within the Prison Realm this entire time? From how much buffer his chest was and the feeling of his arms being more defined, you’d say so.

“I’ve missed you too… Gojo Sensei,” you whispered teasingly with a smile.

You hear him whine in complaint, and you know he’s still the same person you fell in love with.

But buffer.

"Ultimate Strength... and the Solitude it Brings!!"

So this is a thoughts for chapter 233, and also a meta on the whole Gojo and Sukuna fight in general as we're nearing the end. My biggest question here is what exactly does this fight mean for Gojo's character? Why is he fighting and how does that compare to Sukuna?

Before the fight even begins on the eve of Gojo's unboxing we're given a reminder of the loneliness that is at the core of its character. That his central motivation is to raise strong companions so they'll be able to live out the springtime of their youths. That they won't be left alone the way that he was, and the way that also Geto was before he fell from grace.

It seems like Gojo's takeaway here was "I need to intervene earlier" otherwise another Geto will happen. Which is why he his next action in the manga is to find Megumi and recruit him, with the warning that if he's not strong enough he'll be left behind. Because this is Gojo logic we're working here strength = good.

If he raises strong enough companions he'll finally have equals. If he raises students who are strong enough, they won't fall to the corruption of the Jujutsu World.

He doesn't want children to be left alone the way he was left alone as a child, and the way Geto was. However, he also rather condescendingly thinks that the only people who could possibly be on his level are those who are physically strong. There we see Gojo's good intentions mix with how ingrained he is into the society that he was raised in.

The foundation of Jujutsu Society is might = right.

I'm going to borrow a quote from another manga to explain it. Don't read it because the author is a criminals but Makoto Shishio espouses views that are pretty similiar to all of Jujutsu Society as a whole (and yes even Gojo).

Saitro: Kill evil quickly. Shishio: Kill evil quickly? Am I evil? What is evil? In my eyes weakness is evil, raw power is justice.

We actually see this theme repeated over and over again "the ugliness of the weak" or how wekaness itself is considered a crime.

Ironically these two characters who decry the ugliness of the weak then go on to be mass murderers... so you know. Look in the mirrors, guys. People who are victims are often condescendingly spoken down to, lambasted while they're in pain, told they are wrong.

Then you have characters like Toji who while being horrible people are almost fetishiticallly praised just by the virtue that they are strong. Like yes, Toji abandoned his son, solid him, then gambled away all the money he got from selling him, and then killed a high school girl by shooting him in the back of the head but... he was so strong.

Maki becoming more like Toji is apparently a good thing, because you know... he was just so strong. Toji is a pathetic manchild and a loser but because he fits Jujutsu Society's ideal of raw strength so well he ends up being held up regardless as some kind of gold standard.

Which kind of just goes to show how twisted the ideals of Jujutsu Society are. "Weakness is evil, and raw power is justice."

No one embodies this viewpoint more though than Sukuna. In his brief fight against Yuji he almost quotes another Makoto Shishio quote word for word.

Makoto Shishio: "The weak's reason for being is to be food for the strong. Those who are even too weak to be food have no right to exist and the strongest of the strong are at the top of the food chain. The Meiji government is weaker than I am and has no right to be in control of this country. Power belongs to the strong, it belongs to me alone. Taking over this country is my right by natural law. If you're strong you live and if you're weak you die."

Sukuna even says something similiar early on that it's ridiculous that Gojo isn't in charge of the entire sorcery world because of his position as the strongest.

Sukuna just like Gojo before entering the fight receives another reminder of just how alone he is as an individual in his fight against Yorozu, which is where the quote about the loneliness of the strongest emerges from. Yorozu's fight ends with a flashback of Yorozu in the heian era recognizing how alone Sukuna was while the rest of his crowd was worshipping him and despreately wanting to be by his side.

Whereas, before entering the fight Shoko reflects on how Gojo would never allow her to be by his side even though she's been right next to him for years.

The parallel is pretty clear here, these are two people who stand alone at the top of the food chain. They are the extreme version of "right of the individual" or "right of the strong." To borrow from another manga Tokyo Ghoul this time on how to define right of the strong.

"Every disadvantage in the world is from a lack of competence..." or translated in other version's a lack of individual competence. It's the extreme form of individualism that both Gojo and Sukuna represent, if you're tramepled upon, violated, abused, it's your fault for being weak and letting it happening. If you were simply strong enough you could have prevented it from happening.

Gojo and Sukuna both see the world in that black and white logic, however, Gojo has the added burden of his duty as a sorcerer of protecting non-sorcerers that he took on from Geto. Gojo can't kill without meaning or just use his power to stomp over others because Geto drilled it in his head at his weakest moment post Riko's death and awakening that it's important for sorcerers to have meaning to their actions.

In every other way though Gojo is a believer of right of the strong. IT's what he preaches and practices. Hence why his problem solving method is just to win the big fight all alone. Every conflict in the world and every problem to be solved is just a matter of being strong enough in Gojo's eyes.

Which is why I wonder if that explains Gojo's attitude towards this fight with Sukuna. Megumi's life is on the line, the chips are down on the table, but Gojo just seems to treat this like it's a champion prize fight.

Gojo's attitude is notably different from when he was fighting in the beginning of the Shibuya Incident Arc.

Gojo's angry that Jogo and the cursed family are trying to gang up on him and win using strategy rather because none of them are individually strong enough to beat him on their own. He's vicious and brutal the entire fight because it's almost like they've insulted him by trying to challenge him.

Whereas with Sukuna despite the fact that the emotional stakes are way, way higher. Despite the fact one of Gojo's students is in danger and he may even have to kill said student, Gojo just jokes around the entire time and seems to be enjoying himself. It seems like this would be the fight for Gojo to get lose his mind and get unhinged but no.

Yuji and Gojo are both characters who admit they might have to kill Megumi in order to resolve this situation, but look at the differences in their reactions.

Yuji's horrified, and to be fair in Yuji's defense even if Yuji is forced to kill Megumi in order to "save" him. Yuji was the previous host of Sukuna and he was one hundred percent willing to get killed by Yuta or Gojo if he ever went out of control again.

However, Gojo's response to the fact that Megumi got possessed is... let's say less serious.

"I can totally beat up Megumi."

Now, in Gojo's case in comparison to Yuji. Yuji is just a child of Megumi's age and he was also in Megumi's position of being taken over by Sukuna before this and was willing to risk his life on that. Gojo is in a position of power over Megumi. He was obligated to protect Megumi, and now having failed in that obligation isn't really making any attempt to save him.

Now, do I think Gojo is actually trying to kill Megumi?

I'm hovering towards no at the moment. His line here indicates that he thinks there may be a way to revive Megumi after he kills Sukuna once.

However, I think the author wants us to quesiton whether or not GOjo's priorities are really in the right here. After all the other characters are questioning if he's actually trying to help Megumi. Megumi's already been on the receiving end of the unlimited void because of Gojo using his body as a punching bag.

Rather, I think the takeaway here is that Sukuna is bringing out the worst in Gojo because Sukuna represents Gojo at his worst and most toxic. Gojo totally believes in that individual right of the strong.

He thinks that it's the way the world works, everything comes down to how individually strong you are. If you want to fix something? Well just raise a buch of strong children into strong adults and that'll solve everything.

This fight is everything that appeals to Gojo's black and white world view, because he can fix this whole situation with a heavy weight prize fight match between him and Sukuna. Which is where we get to the line this chapter that I used as the banner image.

Why is Gojo fighting here?

Is it because he wants to save Megumi? Is it because he needs to save all of his students and Tokyo as a whole from Kenjaku?

Or is he just fighting for personal satisfaction to be secure in his position as the strongest?

The situation we're in right now reminds me so much of his lines towards Amanai shortly after he awakaned as the strongest. He should be angry for Megumi's sake but...

At the moment the only thing that seems to matter is his fight against Sukuna and the satisfaction from winning.

I guess that's just what happens when you're a main character in a Shonen Manga.

Okay alright, these are quick fires so LET'S GO:

Ijichi: Apologises to the car, bows all the way to hospital.

Gojo: Car doesn't hit him. Car comes off much much worse. After casually checking on the passengers, leaves in a hurry. Urban legends start to float around about a tall blindfolded ghost who is legitimately untouchable.

Geto: Burns down their whole fucking village.

Toji: Brushes it off. Another one where the car comes off worse. It's an inconvenience picking bits of fender out of his hair, more than anything. Absolutely does not give a single shit about the inhabitants of the car.

Nanami: Seamless barrel roll over the bonnet and boot of the car, lands on his feet. Straightens his tie. Gently raps on the window of the car. First checks the passengers are alright, then gives a stern but well-meaning lecture on dangerous driving.

Ino: Sloppy, apologetic, really actually hurt but tries to brush it off like it's nothing. Goes to Nanami to see if Nanami will teach him how to get run over properly.

Yuuji: Takes a DEVASTATING BLOW...and just walks away. Fully laughing and good humoured but inexplicably missing a whole leg. Even more inexplicably, the passengers of the car see him walking round with two totally intact legs just the next day.

Megumi: MAHORAGA

Maki: Graceful barrel roll like Nanami. Lands on her feet. Bullies and berates the car until the car AND its passengers are crying.

Yuuta: Couldn't look any more tired, after scrambling to his feet and convincing Rika not to reduce the car to smithereens.

Sukuna: ARSON. 15,000 dead, nobody knows why, because the car didn't even touch him.

Hiromi: Barrel roll but not neat about it. Sloppy, sighing, angry rap on the window. Takes full insurance details, files a police report, insists on a court date because god knows he might actually win this one.

Choso: Unsure at first exactly what a car is. Accuses it of killing his brothers. Total car annihilation. Finds out the car WAS another brother (from a Curse Womb-vroom-vroom). Total emotional breakdown.

UnPopular Jujutsu Kaisen Opinions (with arguments)

manga spoilers

☆ Yuji is the perfect MC

i've seen a lot of people trashing on him. some say gege writes him poorly and doesn't give him enough scenes, some say he's boring because he doesn't have any fancy cursed techniques. first of all, yuji has been aware of the jujutsu world for 6 months in manga; even less in anime. he doesn't have any OP cliche to him (looking at you Ichigo) and that makes him so much more enjoyable! when he loses he loses for good reasons and when he wins you can feel genuinely happy for him because you know he deserves it. he is a teenager and the shift in his mentalities embodies that perfectly; along with him we discover the cruelty and unfairness of the jujutsu world. at first, especially if you're a shonen watcher, you'd tend to believe he will shift to a high white knight borderline annoying mentality yet he doesn't, the jjk verse doesn't work like that. yuji is able to adapt. he has traits that you'd see in your real life friends: silliness, kindness, idiocy, love for jennifer lawrence etc but also traits that make him a perfect mc: empathy, resiliance, convinction, raw anger. + gege have him some of the HARDEST panels.

ㅡif it's just pain... Yuji Itadori won't ever stop

also. his last battle with mahito. hands down. best. panels.

mahito (another well structured villain) RUNNING for his life while yuji walks slowly behind him. if that doesn't show major improvement from the kid he was at the beginning idk what does. that's some MC shit right there man.

☆ Sukuna is not a fraud

the fraudkuna memes are funny. i admit. i'm sure mahoraga kisses him goodnight and tucks his blankey, however, sukuna is a fucking piece of shit, LOL (i mean it in the best way), my man literally became curse. people expect him to not use the weapons he has to his advantage as if he didn't want megumi from the beginning specifically for using his abilities. a good gun doesn't make you a military tier shooter. it's about the resources, it's about the experience, it's about the aim. "why doesn't he use his curse technique wah wah" — because he knows gojo is strong. unless he isn't absolutely sure he will strip him away from all his gimmicks, he has no reason to flaunt his true powers. sukuna wants to win. he wanted to kill gojo since the beginning of the series. i think the fight is balanced well, sukuna uses his resources and takes the consequences for being a tad too cautious. in the heian era when cursed energy had a purer, rawer output even domain expansions were simple in principles: you're in, i kill you. (line from the manga, btw) his CT is probably straightforward as well with a simple principle so having gojo use his infinity against it and figure out how to strip him naked would make him lose faster than todo called yuji his bestie.

☆ Gege doesn't hate women

because the unfortunate thing with nobara and yuki getting xd-d by kenjaku, a popular belief seems to be that gege is fond of trashing the women in his series. argument people have for that? "the only one in the spotlight is maki and she's female toji". first of all, if gege hated women he wouldn't write them as he does— each one of his lady characters is incredibly well structured and way beyond the love interest/ gotta be protected trope. mei mei, shoko, utahime, miwa and many others became non-existent, or what? even tengen is a woman. masashi kishimoto (the creator of naruto) is an author i'd say has 0 regards for women since the way most of his girl characters are built is literal dog shit. sakura is naruto's one sided love and a sasuke dickrider, hinata is a stalker that sharts when she sees naruto, karin is a sasuke dickrider, kurenai is asuma's chick and the only two women somewhat ok as a structure are tsunde and temari. (i am a big fan of the naruto series but i am spitting facts, also an avid sakura lover) plus there is a rumour that gege is a woman too and from the way sato sugu is written i'd agree anw

☆ Kenjaku is the best villain of the series

homie got railed by itadori's papi just for his plan, that's not even aizen level of plotting bro. he got drizzled in jizz and gave birth to yuji 💀

how good that d had to be for him to get impregnated....

ANYWAY jokes aside, he is very calculated and chill. he is not the strongest but his literal essence is to be a technique stealing leech and well, he's just that. with suguru, even in his villain arc you can empathize. sukuna is cool and straightforward: he wants to massacre people, kill gojo and then enjoy his life slashing random ass people who don't kneel is total submission.

kenjaku? bro, kenjaku has plans over plans and he executes all of them. even in geto's sexy body he still gets hated because there is genuinely nothing likeable about him. not because he's a poorly written character, he's written to be a piece of shit that makes you wanna break the screen when he gets a W and idk about y'all but even when he exorcised mahito i was like "aw hell nah bruh, get your hands off asap". may come as a shock, i know but we're like supposed to hate villains (not me being the biggest sukuna simp even in his crusty dusty OG form🤭) and well, nobody fucking roots for kenjaku. so gojo, go take your boyfriend's body or something fr.

i don't hate him— not in the slightest. i hope he will actually have something going on with maki since apparently nobara is afk. i liked his entire rika situation but... bro.

is he the good father that would spoil his kid as a ray of sunshine?

no.

but he chose this. to forget about everything, to abandon his pride, to part himself away from the clan that rejected him and live his life on his own. megumi's mom made shit better for him and she died so his life became shit again. he thought that by entrusting megumi to the zenin clan he would actually be able to make something of himself since he had cursed energy.

also, people tend to forget just how conservative and judgemental the 3 big clans are, maki and mai have been shat on their whole life by the zenins, especially maki. toji went through the same shit if not worse. he wasn't always buff max version of himself, he wasn't born with anything. exactly because he gave up on all the things in his life he was able to reach that type of power and live with some purpose since he failed in everything else.

in the manga he has the option of coming back to life as long as he keeps killing sorcerers, which is his speciality, but he meets megumi, recognises him and kills himself in order to not hurt him. be fr. anciet sorcerers sold their booty holes to kenjaku to get a second chance at life.

Incest, obedience, and the big three clans in Jujutsu Kaisen

In the chapters when Naoya first appears he's chatting with Maki and Mai's mother about them; he is reviewing Mai and Maki for marriage (his first cousins) because of the level of traditionalism/purity the Zenins uphold. For the Zenins "inbreeding is a way to preserve the bloodline and inherited techniques. they also believe that it increases the chance of having a child gain the rare inherited techniques." @tempenensis

We can also see this being upheld by looking at the family tree and seeing that Naobito married his niece. It can also be suspected that Toji’s first wife (Megumi’s mother) was also related to the Zenin family in some way due to the stark resemblance between her and the other Zenins. His first wife was not the one with the Fushiguro last name, it was Tsumiki’s mother who had the last name

Megumi's mother resembles all of the other Zenin members and if she was introduced to the series as a character that wasn't Megumi's mother she would easily be able to pass as a Zenin

We know by now and have seen that inbreeding does not guarantee powerful heirs (Maki easily kills the remaining Zenin clan). We also see characters like Gojo, Yuta, Geto, etc. who are not the result of inbreeding being more powerful than them. Now you would think why would the Zenins not marry off someone powerful from the other big three clans like the Gojo or Kamo family to increase the odds of a child getting a rare technique from either side especially after learning about why inbreeding is bad? To put it simply they make terrible choices and one of the only good choices that the Zenins have made is Naobito making Megumi head of the clan. Not to mention they believe the Zenins are superior than other sorcerers and say " if you're not a Zenin you're not a jujutsu sorcerer. If you're not a sorcerer you're not a person"

There are also the weird "first loves" in the series being the other characters' siblings or family members (notice how it's Zenin members that do this)

Not to mention the weird relationship between the father and daughter we saw in chapter 96

And Mei Mei being fully naked in bed with Ui Ui (ch 133)

All of Kenjaku's relationships are also questionable

Anyways you may be wondering why I made a post on this topic of all things. I just wanted to show that Gege has no issue showing how fucked up the sorcerer world is, especially the big three families. The clans are basically like nobility and practice incest to keep the bloodlines pure. The Zenin clan is the biggest example of this. They are purists, traditionalists, and misogynists. Their values are hierarchy, techniques/cursed energy, and obedience. This environment explains why Naoya grew up the way he did and why he has the beliefs that he does.

The first son of the family is expected to lead the family (not a woman because of the misogyny). When Toji was born he had expectations from the start of being the first son. He was supposed to have one of the rare techniques and cursed energy but he didn't. He was punished for this by being thrown in the pit and abused by them. Once he started to disobey them he was disowned. However, when he showed how powerful he really was they still didn't respect him. Naoya and Ranta were the few Zenin members who had genuine respect for Toji, the others feared him because they knew he could easily take them all down if he wanted to but they still did not respect him. When he passed they most likely downplayed how strong he was because they still didn't respect him.

When Maki started to become like Toji the fear returns but once again they don't respect her. The mistreatment of Toji by the clan could explain why he became the way he did. He was faced with years of abuse and when he got to be "the strongest" he let loose possibly as a way of retaliation to the clan. No one could stop him and he could finally do what he wanted (seen with a lot of strict upbringing and obedience). All the children in the Zenin clan are viewed as worthless and treated like trash unless they have a technique/cursed energy and are expected to serve their parents/other clan members and not get in the way or they will be disowned.

It is not just the Zenin clan that does this though. The Kamo clan casts out Noritoshi's mother because she was his father's mistress (and not pure blood) and Nori is essentially an illegitimate child. However, Nori gained the clan's technique and was made heir and the next head of the clan just like Megumi was even though they were illegitimate heirs (Megumi because Toji was disowned). This shows how much the clan values technique and how they view hierarchy and have exceptions. While we do not know much about the Gojo clan, it is not farfetched to believe they also follow these practices.

Sorcerers are not good people, they don't follow the same rules as everyone else with barely any consequences. They do weird and gross things but to them that is normal. Gege manages to show this without being over the top or edgy

edit: I accidentally used the wrong family tree and mistook Toji as being the oldest child and Naobito being Maki and Mai's father, but other than that everything is accurate and still stands

he's the chill coach; honestly worrisome how chill he is even at crucial times when they're trying to beat the quarter clocks. he's so composed even when the gap is widening (regardless if in favor of toji's team or not) that it's insulting to the other team's coach, as if he's belittling the game itself. like it's a practice game.

sports parents, esp. moms ..... i'm sure you know how they regard toji. single coach who spent a good sum of his money during his divorce court trial. anyway. they love him istg they watch the games both for their kids AND their coach

you're his favorite sports parents lmfaoooo

however, he's NOT chill during practices, especially after losing. now, toji's teams have far more winning streaks than losing, so he's usually stricter at the peak of the streaks or right after one loss. he's got that chill look with a sinisterly strict aura underneath.

"you're not yet good if you can't beat me" ⎯ is way too good it takes several practices for his team to catch up. well, good for him ⎯ two students from the male team, geto and gojo, were able to block his attempt for a two-point shot. AND NO NEPOTISM OK but maki's that grade school team point guard who's able to replicate his signature half-court shot. he got her a pair of basketball shoes for that.

megumi way too good for grade schooler but he also credits his vigor to practice on itadori yuuji.

toji too good there are offers being sent to him with higher pay and larger connections (which do attract him) but he said he'll stay because his son likes his school which is in the basic education of geto and gojo's university

toji likes the way you scream when you cheer and imagines if you'd sound just as loud when he (TOOT) you ;))

football

it's obvious hot under the sun on the field so yes he does take off his coach unform and practices with them with only either a muscle tee or a tank top (yes, i refuse to call it wife-beater). sometimes he forgets to take off his chain necklace even tho it's itchy bc god this man gets lazy at the weirdest times possible

oooooo everyone just loves rerouting to pass by the field (same) and then they'd take pictures so at some point college football got too famous bc of the hot coach

so toji's usually more of a verbal socratic coach. during cooldowns or breaks or warmups he makes sure that his players know how to think for themselves so that even if they're in the zone (which renders them on autopilot and when they're disturbed they lose focus abruptly). he has a way of making them calm down when they know what to do. the same method even helped them with their academics holy shit!

he's lazy when demonstrating but when he does omfg pls kick my face idk. important notes to consider are his agility and flexibility; strong physique in general; and quick thinking. even if he slows down to show them, he's still quick.

he does get frustrated bc we all get crankier when it's hot. he doesn't lash out on his players, he almost never did before, but he does lash out at home when megumi's not around lmfao.

and then one time your kid told you to watch his practice (for this your kid is assigned male at birth), so you did, and then you see his coach and all of a sudden your cute kid always sees you at the bleachers side, front row. parent perks.

the japan national team wants him to be the coach but he's like ..... maybe next time when my son joins your team

omfg if you do get together imagine the way he's flexible and he never gets to drain his stamina because it's overwhelming. i feel bad for you. it will be a tough time. i wouldn't just say in bed, but hehe. he'd fuck you anywhere as long as you say yes.

volleyball

ah yes, toji trained the best spiker-setter duo (that's the coach ukai in him) so now he's graduated two top players in the national team who will, sadly, go to separate teams after an intimacy problem which toji tries to be out of (who knows if the conflict was their breakup after college but ended up as teammates lmfao)

can we talk about how insane his spikes would be strong ones, insulting feints, and ooooo the cross court spike 😍😍 and his wrists!! the trajectory changes caused by his littlest techniques!

you take care of yuuji on behalf of his parents so now you're always seeing him and his very very very special friend and yuuji's equally ecstatic sister ⎯ megumi and nobara respectively. who knew megumi had such a hot father like???

toji being a volleyball player/coach makes a lot of sense ykwim he's got that service ace that no one has ever beaten until toji suddenly retired from playing and started coaching instead

home gym 😍

he's got that vacuum-sealed looking shirt every time he's coaching or at the games specifically. i think they put him on screen often for publicity honestly.

they ask him, "you're one of the best coaches of this generation, and the best graduating players were under your wing. what inspires you to keep being so great at your teaching?" and then he looks at the camera, and grins. "there's someone who watches during practice that divides my attention. i know they're watching right now." and then he winks

this weeks chapter was very... :/

i don’t even hate the chapter this week like content wise i don’t think it’s a bad chapter i just think that the lead up (the entirety of the culling game) and the pacing and gojos reaction to everything is making it all very. meh to me :/

the whole culling game wasn’t my favorite for a lot of reasons and i don’t necessarily blame gege for it completely. i think that there isn’t an arc better than hidden inventory and there aren’t any fights better than the ones in shibuya, so following both of those really incredible arcs with another that is supposed to be equally as good or better does not seem like an easy thing. (spoilers for CG and new ch. under the cut)

one of the reasons the fights in shibuya are sooo good to me is because they are fights that are deeply rooted in character and character development. maki killing the zenin clan, megumi fighting toji, etc. the itadori-mahito fight at the end of the shibuya arc is entirely a character/meant for character development fight for itadori, with his whole "i am you, you are me" realization/acceptance, and it is arguably the best fight in the manga like it is sooo good.

but there arent any fights built around character in the culling game and like. given that gege has made such amazing, character oriented fights in the past. it is a little bit disappointing. esp since i don’t personally want to just watch/read a bunch of fights repeatedly like i WANT there to be some kind of deeper meaning/purpose to them (outside of trying to end the culling game/free gojo obv). makis fight in the CG is probably the most “character” oriented fight and i was just very eh about it :/ but i love maki <3

the treatment of the women in the CG recently has just turned me away from the manga in general too. scorpion hair remi girl was fucked, uro not having more of a role was disappointing, yuki DYING wasn’t great.

tsumiki was the reason i didn’t stop reading the manga earlier in the arc because i was looking forward to her having her moment for LITERALLY THE ENTIIREEEE ARC. just for gege to do that to her and it reallllyy pissed me off.

as much as i hate how tsumikis arc went, i think i could’ve been a liiittle bit more accepting of it if the whole yorozu-sukuna thing was done well. but i didn’t like that either LMAO. i think the whole “yorozu loves sukuna and she sees how lonely he is etc” is like. a cool concept overall and i think if it was done right it could’ve been a good addition to the plot. even if there was just a little bit more of a flashback of yorozu and sukuna from that era with more information and context i think it would’ve made it a lot better. and i could’ve been like. a tiny bit less pissed about tsumiki. but the fact that it wasn’t a very satisfying arc for tsumiki OR yorozu just made it all very underwhelming to me. esp since tsumiki was what i was looking forward to the most in this arc 🙃🙃🙃

so yeah this chapter wasnt the worst thing in the world its just very underwhelming bc everything that led up to this was really underwhelming for me too :( and gojos reacction in this chapter is. upsetting. esp following the whole yorozu-sukuna thing and the "sukuna is lonely" part of it. like sukuna and gojo are meant to be foils of each other. gojos character is built around the fact that he has those connections and relationships with his friends and the students and he fell in gay love with geto and he "wont let anyone else be lonely" like the relationships he has is WHY HES LIKE THAATTTTT. him having no reaction to nanamis death and nobaras condition and maki and megumi and ALL of his students feels like a very surface level "gojo is a funny silly goofy guy" thing to do. but i would like to believe that gege knows and cares about his characters more than a surface level interpretation but. idk well see i guess. i just would have liked to see the sukuna-gojo being foils of e/o actually being played out narratively in these past few chapters more. but hopefully there'll be more of that during the next arc.

anyways so like. the chapter itself is not necessarily bad i just think that the CG itself was really abrupt and lacked a lot emotionally/character wise (for me at least), and then the pacing of this whole thing has been really off for me so its hard to look at the whole thing collectively and actually like it lol.

i feel like gege is really just trying to speedrun the rest of the manga and move onto something else which SUCKS bc it has soo much potential to be sooooo good. whatever anyways goodnight.

it has been a month after sealing the marriage with the crown prince of edo'in. you had thought it'll be different, maybe he would be more open with you now that you're married. but, to your dismay, nothing has changed. he was still cold, an air of apathy around him whenever he was with you.

great sorrow falls over you, missing your father, nobara, your bedroom — since your shared bedroom seemed all too big despite it being bigger than your room before. it feels like there's a huge rift in it whenever you enter… like something is so far from your reach — and the overall energy of your kingdom.

while you do love the calm aura of edo'in, you didn't like how lonely you felt inside its walls. so unfamiliar, so foreign. it also did not help that your husband was barely around, always on the field with his men fighting for god knows what.

his company was no good either, for he always had a say. always clashing with your ideas, disregarding your concern, and blatantly avoiding you in the halls — seriously, did he see you as the plauge? how rude. today, however, was a surprise, as megumi approached you, seated on the table of your shared bedroom. he clears his throat, and you look up from what you were writing.

“yes?”

“father wishes to know if you’d like to go horse riding with us today.”

“horse riding?”

he nods his head once and walks over to the coat rack to grab — what you only assume is his navy shadbelly. he puts it on, swift fingers buttoning his coat as he turns to look at you.

“it is tradition for us zen’in’s to go horseback riding every 10th of may. reason being why, i do not know myself.”

“or you prefer not to tell me.”

“maybe i do,” he retorts and you roll your eyes at him, closing your journal. “so, are you coming?”

“it does not feel like you want me there,” lacing your hands together atop the notebook, “you only ask out of duty.”

he stays quiet, navy eyes observing you from when you sit. after a minute of silence and considering his offer, sighing, you get up, walking over to where he was to grab your coat.

“but, i certainly can not refuse if it is your father who requested me to be there, no?”

gazing up at him through your lashes, megumi clears his throat. and, unbeknownst to him, something flutters in his chest with the way you’re looking at him right now. he looks away, irritated. and, fixes his collar, furrowing his brows.

“certainly.”

“ah, if it is not the most beautiful woman here,” megumi’s mother cups your cheeks as she sees you and her son walking to the field, meeting you halfway.

“please, queen ai,” you laugh, tucking a hair behind your ear, “you flatter me too much. i believe it is you who are the most beautiful.”

she laughs, a bright smile adorning her features, and queen ai takes your hand and walks with you to the horses. megumi falls into step with his father who was behind you both. fushiguro watches your back, your laughter ringing in the air, and he swears the only time you were ever happy was when you were with his mother.

it is true.

and, he cannot once again stop the fluttering in his chest as he imagines making you happy. you in his arms, holding you so delicately like fine porcelain. bullshit, he thinks. you’d never allow him to. as you reach the stables, you pick the horse near the end, making megumi’s father release a low whistle and chuckle as he picks his horse.

“great choice, darling!” queen ai says, and as you turn to face them, the scowl on megumi’s face says otherwise.

“i do not think it is, dear,” toji replies, already seated on his. looking at them innocently, you tilt your head, “is this someone else’s?”

maki suddenly comes in the stable with her sister, laughing as she walks past your displeased husband, “that is megumi’s horse.”

“the last time i rode his, he threate–,” he bites back, glaring at mai — maki’s twin. “you are making things up.”

you give a guile smile his way, “does he not perform well if he is not on familiar grounds?” – and he huffs, fighting the urge to roll his eyes. “by grounds, i mean his horse?”

“i do well, whatever horse it may be.”

he pulls on his coat, turning on his heel to walk toward another stallion, and gets on swiftly. snickering, you get on the horse, slowly guiding it out of the stables as you follow the zen’in family. the air is nice, cool, and the perfect temperature for feeling the air on your skin as you ride the horse, galloping through fields of flowers and rows of trees.

megumi stays close by, just right behind you. there it is again. the unfamiliar thumping of his heart as he watches your gleeful figure, smiling at whoever overtook you. your laughter ringing in his ears. he shakes his head and curses himself. get a grip. averting his eyes back on the trail, he kicks his horse to run faster to overtake you. to get rid of the view that causes his arrhythmia. but alas, he does not even reach your side for it is not his horse he is on, because you had used his. the swiftest in the herd.

he gives up trying to overtake you and decides to just focus on the road before him. but, every now and then his eyes drift over to yours, unaware that a small smile forms on his lips. only to catch himself and back is the scowl that is always on his face. amidst the feeling of the breeze blowing at your hair, someone shouts, and a horse neighs. pulling the reins, you look back to see megumi’s horse leaning up in the air.

“woah! easy boy, easy!” his horse looses balance and he falls on the ground hard, making you get off yours hastily, running up to him. he rubs his forehead and gets up to catch his horse but, he is long gone as he runs for the stables. he groans in frustration and rubs his temples, putting a hand on his waist.

walking up to him, megumi takes a step back as you reach out to hold his face, making you retract your hands. and, a pang of guilt hits his chest when he sees an expression of hurt flash quickly across your eyes only to be replaced with indifference.

“you’re bleeding…” you quietly say, hands clasped together. “please… let me.”

pulling out a napkin, you take a step toward him, and he suddenly feels stuffy in his suit as he averts his eyes away from yours, taking another step back. sighing at his stubbornness, you grab his hand — to which he snaps his head to look at you, shocked — and placed the napkin on his palm. looking down, hiding the hurt swimming in your eyes, ai and toji make their way to you.

“what happened?”

“fushiguro fell, queen ai.”

“great heavens! you’re bleeding, dear!” megumi hesitantly uses the napkin you gave him, wiping off the crimson on his forehead. he clears his throat and fixes his coat, toji asking, “where’s your horse?”

“ran off,” he says flatly.

“ride with the princess,” he suggests and megumi quickly looks at his father, a knowing smile present on his face. “what? she is your wife after all.”

the king and queen begin to trot away with their horses and you both stand there awkwardly before you walk back to your stallion. he looks away and mutters a curse under his breath — unfortunately, to which you heard — as he releases a heavy sigh. without turning around to face him, you place a delicate hand on the neck of megumi’s horse.

“i know you do not like me,” you quietly say, biting back tears, “but you do not have to blatantly show your disinterest in me.”

one hand on his waist as the other hovers above his forehead with the napkin you gave him. and, he is left stunned by your hushed observation.

“i do not want to share as much as you do, but i would rather have you with me than let you walk back to the stables.”

his eyes ever so slightly widen, taken aback by your words. he does not know what to say so he stays silent, watching your back as you stroke the horse’s neck. unknown to him, he grips the napkin harder with every word that falls off your lips.

“so please,” you pause, “at least bear with me until we’re back at the castle, then you can return to ignoring me to your heart’s content.”

struggling to get on the horse because a lack of a stool is not there to assist you, megumi’s presence suddenly looms behind your back. hesitant hands reach out to hold your waist, and your breath hitches as you feel hot puffs of air fanning your neck. he gently lifts you off the ground, and your leg swings over to sit on the saddle. heat creeps up on your face as you feel megumi mount himself, settling himself behind you, his chest brushing yours as he makes himself comfortable.

slowly, he leans forward to take the reins from your hands, his arms gently slipping under yours to almost — but, not quite — cage your waist. his head just hovering above your shoulder. this was the closest you two have ever been, for even in bed there was a barrier separating you both. you take deep calculated breaths as megumi guides the horse to turn around.

he too, controls his breathing, cursing the way his heart is beating so quickly and he wishes you do not hear. megumi leads his horse on the path to the castle and the ride back was shared in silence.

he fell off a horse that day, but oblivious to his own feelings, it seems something else has fallen.

Ok, so my friend and I were bored in class and instead of paying attention like we should be doing, we did something else. Basically, my friend has never seen Jjk before (even tho I told her so many time 😔) so I showed her the guys and she rated them! what was naoya’s whole thought process throughout this entire thing? like this random ass kid shows up and it turns out he looks just like and is the son of the one person naoya admired more than anyone. but then he finds out that said random ass kid is going to take away what he considers his birthright. he literally has everything naoya wishes he did, toji as his father and the most valued technique in the entire clan.

and the kid turns out to be more gojo then zenin. he rejects them and everything they stand for. what would go through naoya’s head whenever megumi would be at the compound? was it jealousy or just plain hatred and annoyance?

He detested Megumi. And he liked hurting him.

Because the thing is that Megumi had everything and he was still pathetic to Naoya.

He had Toji’s face. The perfect Zenin look that everyone cared so much about—the dark hair, striking eyes, sharp features. He had all those classic Zenin traits that had skipped the generation with Naoya. He looked exactly how the Ten Shadows was supposed to look, and no one would ever shut up about it, but it wasn’t his face. It was Toji’s. Naoya admired Toji more than anyone, but he was reviled by the clan, and his face would forever be remembered as his pathetic son’s face who couldn’t measure up to half of what he was. It got under his skin.

Because Megumi has always been weak to Naoya. And it’s specifically because of Tsumiki.

Whereas Maki was at the bottom of the list as to who got face time with Megumi, Naoya was at the very top of it. He was immediately pegged as someone who should be training and advising Megumi as he grew.

He was the son of the clan leader. He was the most promising—and ruthless—of his brothers. He was who should inherit the position of clan head, as far as he was concerned.

And then this stupid brat comes along with the goddamn Ten Shadows.

The thing is that Naoya was sort of supposed to be the Ten Shadows. He’s a year behind Gojo Satoru, and the jujutsu world knew he had the six eyes from birth. His clan was telling everyone that he was so powerful that he had unbalanced the jujutsu world itself.

And the Zenin figured that the Ten Shadows was its counterbalance.

The Ten Shadows comes in cycles, and it always arrives in concert with the Six Eyes. They orbit each other like planets and moons. Fate draws them together.

Naobito purposefully sired Naoya when news of the Six Eyes’ birth broke in hopes that he’d inherit the Ten Shadows and that the next one would be born into his line. Naoya didn’t get it. Makis dad tried the same, and similarly failed.

Toji wasn’t trying. He didn’t want Megumi to inherit the Ten Shadows.

He wasn’t afraid of his family. But the closest he ever got was when Megumi was born and he wondered, idly, if Megumi would be the one in a billion to inherit the Ten Shadows. Because he knew his family would try to take him away if he inherited it. And once upon a time, the thought of ever giving his blessing to his family was unimaginable to Toji.

But Naobito? He was desperate for the Ten Shadows return. And he was especially desperate for it to come from his bloodline. Second to being the ten shadows was siring them—it’s basically a source of political power. Your kid is presumptive heir to the clan now irrespective of who the clan head is—that means you’ll forever be important to who’s likely going to be the most important Zenin clan head for centuries. Naobito wanted to solidify his own power by having the next Shadows come from his line, and Naoya only exists because he was gambling on the Ten Shadows following right behind the Six Eyes. For a while, when Naoya was young, a lot of the clan really hoped it would be him.

For all of his power, his technique will always come with a sting of disappointment. Whatever he does, he’ll never measure up to the Ten Shadows.

But of course it was Toji’s boy that inherited it. Of course.

If Megumi had been like Toji, Naoya would have liked the shit more (or, at least, he tells himself he would), but Megumi’s nothing compared to Toji. Toji would never make himself so weak. It’s an insult to everything Toji was and everything Naoya is.

Because they shoved Megumi straight in his path, told him it was his honor to help him train, and the little shit fought everyone every step of the way, until you brought up his sister. The second you threatened to take her away, he’d be docile as a lamb. There Naoya was, stabbing his own brothers in the back to climb the ladder, and this fucking kid gets cowed the second you threaten to cut him off from some non-sorcerer who isn’t even related by blood. Hell, he’d just let you hit him.

See? It’s almost too easy. Fuck, it almost takes the fun out of it for Naoya, but not really. It’s still pretty goddamn fun.

Megumi was basically Naoya’s every insecurity shoved in his face and packaged in a little boy who actually loved his sibling. Naoya had spent a long, long time burying the sting of not inheriting the Ten Shadows himself and convincing himself he’d still climb to clan heir. Megumi undermined that just by existing. He looked how Naoya was supposed to look but didn’t. It was the face of the man Naoya was obsessed with measuring up to and never was able to. He had the technique Naoya was meant to inherit but didn’t. Everything Naoya fought and bled for, he could have had it just by existing. And he didn’t even have the decency to want it.

Naoya legitimately, genuinely liked hurting Megumi. Everyone else was a piece of shit who did it for their own ends—mostly because they had terrible ideas about child rearing and what it would take to groom him into a powerful sorcerer—but hurting Megumi was an end in itself for Naoya. It made him feel better. It made him feel strong.

He liked hitting Megumi. He liked threatening to take him away from his sister forever. It was his favorite button to push, because that was the one thing that genuinely made him afraid, and he liked that he could make the ten shadows afraid. He was supposed to have the sort of power that could rival Gojo goddamn Satoru, but when Naoya raised his fist? He flinched. And that made Naoya feel big.
