his jaw drops for a second before it starts turning into a big grin and he’s sure his heart is skipping multiple beats!!

“good night,” he replied as she entered the apartment building.

he sighed to himself and began walking back to his car. once again, his blind date couldn’t bring him the joy he missed.

how many women had he seen by now? three? four? sakusa couldn’t quite remember. all he knew was that by the end of each date, he found himself thinking about you, wishing to see you again. wishing he didn’t blow up at you months ago over that small thing. wishing he could have you in his arms as you excitedly told him about your day.

as the man sat in his car, he sighed to himself.

he thought he could find someone better - someone who wouldn’t be so energetic at the end of the tiring days, someone who could learn to give him his space. but in the end he just couldn’t. he ended up missing you and your bubbly laugh. as he just thought about you, he began to miss you dearly again.

sakusa hadn’t realised it but he began driving. down a familiar road and past a familiar park. it had been forever since he turned this corner.

past your favourite mochi shop where he bought your last birthday present, then past the convenience store where you'd buy your breakfast, then past the restaurant where you had your first date. and finally... to your apartment building.

"what am i doing?" sakusa thought to himself as he parked his car and locked the door.

"this probably won't end well." he thought as he continued to walk up the stairs.

"what do i even say?" he continued to walk down the hall and stopped in front of your door.

"i just want to say..." he rang your doorbell.

"wait a minute!" your cheerful voice called out.

his body tensed up as the footsteps came closer and stopped right in front of the door. he swore he could hear a gasp from you as you looked through the peephole, followed by a few seconds of silence.

"omi... sakusa-san, what are you doing here? i thought i returned the last of your stuff last week to you..." you said softly. he winced at the name you called him.

"i wanted to talk to you." he said quietly.

"mhm?"

"i just... i miss you."

"..."

"i'm really sorry for what i said that night. i don't have any excuse for it, but i'm sorry."

"..."

"it's been too quiet without you around. i realised how much i miss you and your laugh. i miss your smile, the meals we cooked together, the songs you sang in the shower, your... i miss everything."

"..."

"i think, no, i'm sure i still love you. i can’t love anyone else the same way i did you, and it's understandable if you don't love me back, i just wanted to let you know.”

the silence hung in the air, thick and suffocating. sakusa knew it was probably a stupid idea, he was probably just bothering you.

“i’ll take my leave. good ni-” his farewell was cut off by the door unlocking and creaking open. there you stood, beautiful as ever and with a sad smile on your lips.

“do you wanna come in and talk about it?”

“everything alright?” he asked, sitting on the bed beside you. you groaned a bit at the question, knowing that if you even opened your mouth, tears would begin to flow. so you settled for a shake of your head and pulled the comforter up until your eyes were just visible.

suna frowned and set down his bag before shuffling further into the bed. “don’t feel like talking about it?” he asked.

once again, you shook your head.

he nodded and replied, “i get that sometimes.”

silence hung in the air as the two of you looked at each other with expecting eyes, wondering what to say next. thankfully, suna spoke.

“do you wanna cuddle?”

you nodded quickly and opened up the blanket, letting your boyfriend in. he was quick to bring you into his embrace, hugging you tightly and kissing your warm forehead.

“i missed you the whole day. wish i could’ve been there for you today.” he mumbled against your skin. his large hand rubbed against your upper back gently in a calming manner. he could feel as your body slowly loosened at the motion, and felt relieved.

“i’m okay just cuddling now, rin.” you mumbled into his broad chest.

just the memory of how he carried and ran with your battered up body to ensure you were safe and away from the special grade cursed spirit, had your cheeks reddening. even if you were slipping in and out of consciousness, you could still clearly feel the warmth of his body. not to mention a feeling of safety when you were with him. and even when he was collapsing from overusing his curse on the spirit, he made sure that you weren't hurt.

"ah! this is so embarrassing to say out loud!" you patted your cheeks with your cooler hands in a feeble attempt to recompose yourself.

"hearing you out, it does make more sense... but still-" kugisaki started until the two of you heard a boisterous voice outside the classroom,

( i have to apologise, this was so so late! i’m so sorry! but i really hope you can enjoy it >< )

as you wrote in your notebook, every so often you would glance up. not at your textbook from which you were studying from but at the man sitting opposite you - claude von reigan. he was set to be the next leader of the golden deer alliance, the leader of the golden deer house in the academy, a charismatic and crafty man, incredibly handsome, a fun and funny guy to be around, and most importantly, the one you had a crush on.

you had been thinking of confessing your feelings to him for the longest time. but you were unsure if you should. after all, you were just some regular commoner, why would he ever feel the same way about you? thinking about that, you let out a sigh.

“what’s wrong?” claude asked.

you looked up to see his brown eyes staring right at you.

“a-ah, nothing much. just thinking about how the ball is tomorrow. i wonder what special things they’ll set up!” you lied with an awkward laugh.

"well, it's probably gonna be real fancy," claude hummed, "delicious food, nice drinks, beautiful decorations, they're probably going all out for us.”

“hm… that sounds like it.” you sighed, head resting on one hand as you already pictured the scene. you had even heard that one famous orchestra would be coming to play music! it would be the first time attending a ball so your thoughts were filled with excitement.

and in all of them, your dance partner was the man across from you. just thinking of swaying slowly across the marble floor with his hand on your waist and his face so close to yours had your heart aflutter. and of course, you haven’t even asked him if he would like to dance with you! you had been working up the courage and planned to ask for the past week but the time never seemed right.

but maybe now would be good - you were alone in the library and the ball would be tomorrow and all his attention was on you anyways so-

“say… you wouldn’t happen to have a partner for the first dance, would you?” claude asked with a cheeky smile on his face.

“d-did you remind my mind or something?!” you gasped.

he replied with a chuckle, leaning back in his chair and stretching his arms back. “well… maybe i did. or maybe i could tell just by the look on your face.” as he said that, he leaned forward so your faces were only inches apart.

“what do you say? be my partner?” the slightest hint of a smirk on claude’s lips as he asked the question.

you were frozen in your seat, not even blinking due to your surprise. but slowly your face softened into a smile.

“you stole the words right off my tongue.”
