Luminous Silkdrakes are not an uncommon sight in the night skies above West Arcadia, but that does not lessen the wonder of seeing a swarm. These large insectivores tend to travel in groups, and generally pose no threat to humans.
During the Winter months, when the nights are long, Silkdrakes begin to shed their fur and let off a powerful luminescence. Due to this, Winter nights in West Arcadia can be almost as bright as the day. With the recent boom in the city's population, however, the brightness of the downtown district has begun to cause a decrease in the number of Silkdrakes, leaving some experts concerned.

Another moth dragon painting, this time featuring a luna moth dragon.
I thought the wing shapes and coloration would make for an interesting design, though I'm likely to revisit this one later. Definitely made me want to paint more of them too, though my favorite is still the first one I painted so far.

In hindsight it's crazy I never made a size reference comparing Lumenia with herself.
Until now!

Smaugust 4 - Draco saturnia
Last month I asked people to send me some of their favorite animals/plants/minerals. I'm now dragonizing the items on that list for Smaugust art prompts, attempting to draw one a day through the entire month.
This dragon is inspired by Saturnia pavonia, a moth of the British Isles. I went with a body plan inspired by dragons in European medieval art as homage to the moth's native range.
