Kaylee Bryant On "Legacies," The Importance Of Queer Rep On TV, Hosie, And More

"I have so many people constantly telling me that watching Josie on the show has made them feel more comfortable in themselves."

This week, Kaylee Bryant squeezed us into her schedule to talk about their role as Josie Saltzman on Legacies. As a huge Josie fan, I couldn't think of a better way to spend a morning than talking to Kaylee about The Vampire Diaries, Hosie, our favorite books, and more! Here's everything we talked about:

1. What was your audition for Legacies like?

My audition process was very interesting because they kept a lot of it a secret. I had no script and a fake character name. And then I had my second audition, a chemistry read, which Jenny Boyd [Lizzie] wasn't even at. I walked in and immediately just flat-out asked, "This is for the twins, right?" So it was long, but short and intense at the same time.

BuzzFeed: Wait, did you know which twin you were going to be playing?

I initially auditioned for Josie, and then during chemistry reads, they started asking me to read for Lizzie. And then we had our final callback where I finally met Jenny and we both read for both roles. They never told us [who was playing who] until Jenny had her appointment to go dye her hair blonde.

2. What's a typical day on set like?

Gosh, it changes every time. If it's a busy day on set, we're talking like 8 a.m. call time where we spend about two hours on hair and makeup and go straight into rehearsals. If it's a big sort of episode that involves stunt work and wire work, you're talking about doing maybe two scenes in a day. But if it's an average day, we can do anywhere from three to five scenes and we can start at 8 a.m. and wrap at 8 p.m. It really depends. I'm surprised if I'm not surprised.

3. You’ve said you’re a huge fan of The Vampire Diaries. Josie played Elena in the musical episode — what was that like?

It was surreal for sure. They had talked a little bit about doing a musical episode since Season 1. And I always thought that they were joking when they talked about doing Salvatore: The Musical!, so when they said Josie would obviously play Elena, I was like, "Hahaha." And then I got the script and realized I actually was playing Elena. The musical aspect of it was the easy part. The difficult part was, I think, getting into the iconic Elena attire and trying to feel normal. Because we have a lot of crew members that worked on The Vampire Diaries, and they kept coming up to me being like, "This is weird. I feel weird."

4. Do you have a favorite scene you’ve filmed with Courtney Bandeko (Finch) this season?

I really did love the scene that we had in the town square [when] we got on a moped. There were so many fans in the town square that were huddled in the rain — it was pouring rain, freezing cold — trying to snap photos of us. And it was kind of one of those surreal moments where it felt full circle, that I was on a Vampire Diaries spinoff in town square. It was a lot going on, but it was a lot of fun. It's always fun working with Courtney.

5. You and Danielle Rose Russell (Hope) also have amazing chemistry — what’s your favorite scene you’ve filmed together?

Oh gosh, we have a lot that are pretty amazing. Honestly, I'd say [Season 3] Episode 14 — we finally got to do a lot more scenes together. And it's always fun, especially when it's Josie, Lizzie, and Hope, because we have so much history character-wise. Any time you really get to dive into that, we love it.

6. I know Josie and Finch are working through some things right now, but I gotta ask — how do you feel about Hosie?

I love it. Danielle and I loved the idea of Hosie starting from Season 1, and we kept asking and asking and asking for it. So it's kind of funny and full circle that now the fans have kind of taken our side with things, and now they won't stop asking for it. All we want is this beautiful, dynamic relationship. And I think that the fans want that as well.

BuzzFeed: Yeah, I mean, people have even been asking me about Hosie, and I don't work on the show!

Oh, I'm sure! [Laughs] Obviously I love it, though.

7. Is there a particular Josie moment you’re really proud of?

Josie has a scene coming up in Episode 18 — or 19? — I don't know, but it's good. It's sort of the pinnacle of everything that Josie has felt over the past three years kind of culminating into one moment. So, I'm excited for people to see it.

8. You recently came out as queer. How has playing Josie, who’s pansexual, impacted you personally?

I felt a lot of pressure when I initially booked Josie because I was still figuring out who I was and what my label was. And playing a character who was so comfortable in who she was, it was inspiring [to me] in a way that I think a lot of other people watching the show have been inspired. I have so many people constantly telling me that watching Josie on the show has made them feel more comfortable in themselves. It's kind of amazing that we all have the same experience in that having queer representation makes you more comfortable.

9. You’ve been vocal about your Asian identity, and your character has spoken Japanese on the show. Did you have a hand in incorporating that into Josie’s character?

No, not at all! So, I spoke Japanese a few times on the [Instagram] Live and one of our writers, Penny Cox, saw me speaking Japanese and immediately went to Brett [Matthews] and was like, "We need to make this happen somehow." And then all of a sudden, I had a script in my hands. So it was a surprise, but a fun one.

BuzzFeed: Are you fluent in Japanese?

Gosh, no! I'm barely fluent in English. [Laughs] I would say I speak at the level of maybe a second-grader on a good day, though.

10. If you could pitch any storyline for Josie, what would it be?

I always joke that I want an episode that takes place overnight. That way, we all have to be wearing pajamas the entire episode. I just want to wear some comfy clothes for a whole two weeks, that's my main goal. So we can have a pajama episode, that's my pitch.

11. What's it like getting into character for Dark Josie scenes?

It's different in the sense that I know Josie so well. And knowing Josie in turn makes me understand Dark Josie. I have a whole different playlist of music that I listen to for Dark Josie — and I have the wig, which helps a lot with getting into character.

BuzzFeed: Well, now I have to ask what music is on that playlist!

I think "Bury a Friend" by Billie Eilish is a great one for Dark Josie. Also, "Villain" by K/DA is a prime example of a perfect song for Dark Josie, so I listen to that one as well.

12. What's your go-to Starbucks order?

Plain black iced Americano. Aria [Shahghasemi, who plays Landon] says I drink coffee like a sociopath. [Laughs]

13. What TV show are you currently binging?

I just finished watching Alice in Borderland, which is a Japanese show on Netflix. And I know Feel Good Season 2 just came out, so I think that's my next binge.

14. Damon or Stefan?

Stefan! They're both beautiful and I love them very much, but I'm Team Stefan when it comes to Elena.

15. If you could work with anyone from The Vampire Diaries, who would it be?

Ian Somerhalder has a lot of dogs. So, maybe I want to work with him for the sole reason of just talking about dogs. [Writer's note: Kaylee revealed she has two rescue dogs, one whom was sleeping right next to them during the interview! Kaylee described the dogs as "both complete and total nuts," but said she misses them about five minutes after getting into the car to go to work.]

16. Do you think you’re most similar to Josie, Lizzie, or Hope in real life?

I would say I'm an eclectic mix of the three. I can be very headstrong like Hope, very outspoken like Lizzie, and I try to be as loving as Josie, but sometimes that doesn't always work. But I'd like to think all three.

17. Is there a role people would be surprised to learn you auditioned for, but didn't get?

I've been auditioning since I was eight, so there's quite a few Disney Channel shows and movies. And I'm sure people would be surprised because I think I auditioned for like, all of them. It's very funny, one of the first jobs I ever booked in television was Kickin' It with Leo Howard [Ethan]. Talk about full circle — going from being 12 years old and having no idea what I'm doing to being a series regular on [Legacies] and welcoming Leo to the set.

18. Who's your favorite Disney princess?

Oh, I love Mulan so much. She was, like, my first crush ever. I also love Moana, but it's Mulan 1,000%.

19. If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

I mean, I do eat rice every day. So maybe just white rice — you can make rice into candy and...yeah, let's go with rice.

20. If you were stranded on a deserted island and could only bring one book, what would it be?

Oh no! I recently read The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers, and I really enjoyed that book. Oh god, Is that the one that I want to bring, though? I mean, I really enjoyed it and it has many different aspects to it. I don't know. Or should I go with Harry Potter? I go through different genres too, like right now I'm in a big sci-fi phase, but other times I'll go the opposite direction and only read biographies. Yeah, that's super hard. I don't think I would know!

21. On that note, what's your Hogwarts house?

Initially, when I was younger, it used to just be straight-up Slytherin. And now, I recently took the Sorting Hat Quiz and I got Ravenclaw. So I'm going to go with Slytherclaw.

BuzzFeed: What's Josie's house?

Josie would be Slytherin. She tries very hard and, you know, not everyone in Slytherin is evil. She just, you know, has her way of going about things.

22. Has anything super funny or embarrassing happened to you on set?

I trip a lot on set. I get scared very easily — if I come around the corner and somebody is walking the other direction, I get scared. Everybody knows to walk slowly around me because I get scared so easily.

23. What's your wildest fan story?

I've had people cry before. And I'm an empath, so if somebody starts crying, I immediately am like, "Please don't cry, because I'm gonna cry." And then it turns into this whole thing. Once we were shooting in the town square and this young girl with her mom started crying, and I just hugged her and I didn't know what to say. So there's a lot of that. There's also the occasional, "Where's your twin?" and...I don't have one, sorry! But yeah, I would say the people who cry always throw me for a loop.

24. How do you unwind after a long day?

I have an hourlong drive home from work, so I usually listen to a lot of music. And by the time I get home, taking off all of my makeup is very therapeutic. Because over time, we're working 13-hour days, 16-hour days, and it's just powder constantly building up on my face. So, washing my face is always very therapeutic. And then just laying back and reading a book and petting my dog is the best.

25. Is there a celebrity you get told you look like a lot?

Most recently, Sara Waisglass [from Ginny & Georgia and Degrassi]. We follow each other on social media now and I completely messed up because I don't know how Twitter works at all. I forgot that there's a DMing interaction, so we followed each other and I was like, "Oh, that's nice." And then just recently, I saw that she had messaged me being like, "We're twins! We should be friends!" And I immediately messaged back, "I'm so sorry, let's be friends!"

26. Who's your biggest celebrity crush?

Oh, I have so many. But consistently since I saw Orphan Black, Tatiana Maslany. Hands down.

27. Finally, have you ever caught someone watching a TV show or movie that you're in on a flight or anywhere else?

We were all, as a cast, flying to — was it New York Comic Con, or San Diego Comic Con? — one of the Comic Cons. And we were all sitting there and we saw that Legacies was actually on the airplane as an option. And we were all just uncomfortably staring at each other. Yeah, that was surreal.

I See The Light - Haz Osterfield (Soulmate AU)

"𝐀𝐥𝐥 𝐚𝐭 𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐬 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈 𝐬𝐞𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮."

Blur. It was all you saw. An array of colors would be in front of you and all you could see were distorted colors swirling around. Glasses didn’t help your situation or anyone’s situation for that matter. You cursed the ancestors who made the highest entity angry.

You see, it all began when a man named Fraudator cheated on his wife, Fidelis, with some woman he met while he was farming. The highest entity wasn’t very pleased with Fraudator’s action, so he punished Fraudator’s children until the next generations with blurry eyesight. The only time a person will be able to see clearly is when they touch their soulmate.

If your soulmate dies, the colors you’ll only see are black and white. It’s quite sad, really.

Your parents were one of the lucky ones who’ve met their soulmate at such a young age. You, however, were not so lucky. You’re already 23 and there was still no luck of meeting your truest love.

It was your mom’s birthday and your father decided it would be nice to go on a cruise for one week. You didn’t have anything to do, so you agreed. Your older sister was bringing her husband and her two kids and your little brother just went with the flow. After all, he was only thirteen. His whole mindset was “fuck soulmates!”. He didn’t care.

You arrived at the cruise and got settled in with the help of your parents. The food was delicious, the music was great, the people were kind and accommodating, and despite your blurry vision, you were having the time of your life. That’s why you needed to take a breather.

“Um, is it alright if I have some air outside?” You asked. You could see the blurry figure of your sister... or was it your mother? Anyway, either of them, turned to you and said, “Sure! I’ll take you.”

Upon hearing the voice, you realized it was your mother. You smiled and she helped you up from your seat and led you outside near the pool area.

“Do you want me to stay with you?” Your mom asked sweetly. You shook your head and held on to the railing, “No, thanks. It’s your birthday. Go have fun. I’ll just press the remote button when I’m ready to go.”

Everyone was given these little remote systems when they’re born. It only has one button and it’ll alert your parents’ phones whenever their blurry sighted child needed help.

“Alright.” Your mother kissed your cheek and left. You took a deep breath and faced the dark blurry scenery in front of you. Oh, how you wish you could meet your soulmate so that you could admire the view together. Unbeknownst to you and your soulmate, your wishes would come true that night.

You heard a group of boys laughing and walking towards your direction. They weren’t actually laughing at you. They were laughing at their blurry sighted friend who claimed that he could see everything without any help.

“Haz, come on! Don’t be silly.” Tom chuckled. “It’s okay if you need our help in guiding you everywhere.”

Harrison sighed, “I just don’t get it. All of you have met your soulmates-”

“Harry hasn’t met his soulmate yet. Hence, why he’s at home.” Sam interrupted.

“Fine. I’ll rephrase it.” Harrison rolled his eyes. “All of you, except for me and Harry, have met your soulmates early on and we haven’t met ours yet! It’s so annoyi-”

“HAZ, WATCH OUT!!” Tuwaine shouted, but it was too late. Harrison bumped into you causing you to fall on the floor with him falling on top of you.

“I’m so sor-” Harrison said, but he stopped mid-sentence when his blurry eyesight vanished. It was like magic! He looked at you and you also had a shocked look on your face.

“Haz, let’s go. Your position looks weird right now.” Tom said as he walked towards him. Sam stopped Tom and quietly said, “Don’t. Let Harrison have his moment, Tom. He just met his soulmate.”

“That’s his soulmate?” Tuwaine asked in disbelief.

Sam nodded, “Judging by their shocked faces and the fact that they’re looking at each other directly means that they were written in the stars for each other.”

Harrison got up and helped you. Both of you were still in shock and Harrison’s small group of friends were watching the scene in awe. Tuwaine was smiling, Tom was about to tear up, and Sam’s heart was practically soaring in pure bliss for his friend.

“I’m- I’m Harrison.” He said and offered you his hand. You looked down at it and lightly pushed it away. He slightly frowned, but it was replaced with the look of surprise once more when you pulled him in for a tight hug which he returned.

“I’m Y/N and I’m really glad that you’re here with me right now.” You said to him. You were going to cry and so was he.

“You just made my trip a million times better.” Harrison chuckled and pulled away.

Both of you looked at each other with bliss written all over your faces. After all those years spending your time with blurry vision, you could finally see everything clearly. More importantly, you finally found your soulmate and both of you knew that from that day onward, you didn’t want to spend the rest of your lives apart any longer.

Not So Different: Virgil x Reader

Request: Can I get uhh new side (Pride?) Who is female and everyone is surprised and it's virgil x reader and lots of him being jealous even tho u aren't together and angst and him being the big spoon and stuff ty mwah (sorry if this is badly written I'm going on 1 hours of sleep in the past 2 days hahaha okay - @hhh-angels

Summary: You are Thomas’s prideful side, and you immediately bond with Roman for obvious reasons. Virgil doesn’t like that very much…

Warnings: angst, jealousy

Author’s Notes: I hope you like this! There’s a few time-skips cuz I wanted it to be kinda slow-burn and build up the angst lol. (Also I’d just like to say there is no Roman hate here! He’s kinda viewed as the bad guy in this but I promise I love him plz don’t come after me)

“Hi!” you pop up next to Roman, waving to Thomas. Everyone jumps, but you’re so happy to actually be here that you don’t mind their intense reaction. Deceit’s done a great job at hiding you for years, and you’re finally getting to reveal your existence.

You represent Thomas’s pride. You’re not really either a light or dark side, since pride can be used in so many different ways. Pride can be used for good, such as when Thomas is confident in his achievements, ideas, and sexuality. But if it gets too strong, it can become an issue. Excessive pride can lead to being self-absorbed, insensitive, and arrogant, and unfortunately that may be the reason you’re here.

“I’m sorry, who are you?” Thomas asks.

“I’m your pride!” you grin. “But you can just call be Y/N,”

Roman looks you up and down, “But, why are you-?”

“A girl? I just felt like presenting myself this way. Do you need me to change?”

“No, no, of course not! We can sing Disney duets together!” You and Roman immediately start singing “A Whole New World.”

Virgil rolls his eyes.

Thomas stares in disbelief, “I’m still confused, why are you here? Where did you come from?”

“You tell me, Thomas,” you laugh, continuing to sing with Roman.

“Did you guys know about her?”

“Not particularly, no,” Logan and the other sides shake their heads.

“Virgil? Is she another dark side?”

“Not exactly,” he sighs. “But I- I should’ve been able to stop her,”

“Why?”

“Yeah, why, Virgil?” your singing stops and you meet his gaze.

“I’m the one who’s supposed to balance out Thomas’s ego with self-consciousness and insecurity,”

“Who needs that,” Roman scoffs.

“Actually, he does need it,” Logan corrects, pulling up a chart. “Think of it as a modified Yerkes-Dodson curve. With anxiety, one side of the extreme is complete carelessness, and the other is full-on panic. With pride, one side would be self-loathing, and the other would be narcissism. Ideally, everyone should be in the middle, having confidence in yourself but not so much that you become ignorant or put others down,”

“Is she here because…I’m on the second side?”

“Oh no…” Patton mumbles.

“Nonsense! I see nothing wrong with Y/N being here,” Roman objects, draping an arm around your shoulders. Virgil cringes a bit.

“Technically, Roman is correct,” Logan admits hesitantly. “As long as you don’t listen to her excessively, nothing detrimental will come of her presence,”

“Okay…” Thomas exhales.

“Her getting too close to Roman is what you really need to worry about,” Virgil grumbles.

“Hey! I thought you guys were past this?”

“Maybe not,”

“Well fine, Virgil, we’ll go if you have such a big problem with us,” Roman sneers, taking your hand and sinking down.

Over the next few weeks, you and Roman have become best friends. You’ve written approximately 15 musicals together now, sung every single Disney song multiple times, and have brainstormed millions of ideas on how to help Thomas achieve his dreams in the most extravagant way possible.

“I don’t know how much longer I can take this obnoxious behavior,” Logan closes his book and slams it on the table. You and Roman are very loudly reenacting Hamilton in his room at the moment, and the noise is filling the entire mind palace.

“They’re just having fun, Logan!” Patton shrugs, playing some Go Fish with Virgil.

“Come on, Patton, you know Roman’s just going to corrupt her,” Virgil groans.

“Now, Virgil, I may have had my doubts before but there’s no need to be mean,”

“I’ve had it,” Logan stands up and stomps over to Roman’s door. “CAN I PLEASE HAVE SOME PEACE AND QUIET FOR THIRTY MINUTES?!”

With that, no one so much as breathes loudly for the rest of the day.

It’s probably way past midnight now, but you still can’t sleep. You head to the kitchen to grab a snack, jumping when you see Virgil there as well.

“What are you doing here?” you shriek.

“I could ask you the same thing,”

“I suppose so,” you grin, hoisting yourself up to sit on the counter. “I guess I wouldn’t mind the company,”

“I usually come down here to be alone,”

“Look, I know you hate me, but you could just kindly ask me to leave,”

“I don’t hate you,”

“You don’t?”

“No!” he sighs, rubbing his eyes. “Are you really so self-absorbed that you think if people aren’t all over you they hate you?”

“Excuse me?” you shoot back. “I’m pretty sure you directly said you didn’t want me around!”

“I did not say that. I said you need to be under control, and teaming up with Roman is not going to help that,”

“What’s wrong with Roman?”

“Can’t you see he’s using you? He only likes you because you’re so similar and you can sing princess songs with him!”

“And how is that bad, exactly?” you retaliate. “He’s the only one who’s been nice to me since I got here, so sorry if my choice in friends isn’t to your standards,”

“It’s just-“

“You know what, Virgil? I really thought we would get along. We both have the capacity for good and evil, and we both help to balance Thomas out. We have a lot more in common than you think,” you slide off the counter and walk out.

You and Virgil don’t speak for a while after that. Not that you talked a lot before, but that fight really solidified things. You can’t even make eye contact with each other, it’s like you’re not even there.

Roman keeps asking you what’s wrong, but you just shrug him off. How are you supposed to tell him that he’s part of the problem? That maybe if you weren’t so close, Virgil would consider talking to you?

You never meant any harm when you revealed yourself. You really thought you’d be able to get along with all the sides, but it seems that Roman’s the only one who celebrates who you are. Logan barely tolerates you, and that’s only when you’re not being obnoxious with Roman. Patton’s alright with you, but he gets a little jittery if you suggest anything that compromises his morals. And then there’s Virgil, and you know how that’s going.

You don’t really feel like you have to apologize, it’s not in your nature anyway, but you’re sick of having to avoid him all the time now. You need to talk to him again whether he likes it or not.

You swing open the door to his room without knocking and sit on the bed, “Hi,”

“Is privacy just something you don’t understand?”

“It appears so,” you laugh. “Look Virgil, I know you’re mad at me, and honestly I’m mad at you too, but I don’t want to be anymore,” You take a deep breath, “I like you. I wish we had a better start, but I’m willing to start over,”

“Are you serious?”

“Yes,” you scoot closer to him. “And I told Roman to leave us alone for the rest of the day, so don’t worry about him,”

“You didn’t have to do that,”

“I know I didn’t. But I did. So do you want to hang out or not?”

“Just want to make sure, you actually want to hang out with me?”

“Yes, Virgil. If I didn’t I wouldn’t have asked,” you drape a blanket over the two of you and settle in.

As the movie goes on, you subconsciously rest your head on his shoulder. He stiffens immediately and you jerk back up.

“Oh my gosh I’m so sorry-“

“N-no, it’s fine,” he releases his breath. “I’m just…not used to people doing that,”

By the time the movie’s over, you’re fully asleep and Virgil freezes again, unsure what to do. Should he carry you to your room? Leave you here to sleep? Wake you up?

He slowly wraps his arms around your waist and lies down with you, being careful not to make any sudden movements. Despite his efforts, you squirm a bit in your sleep, but thankfully you don’t open your eyes. He fits his chin in the crook of your neck and dozes off himself.

He knows you didn’t have to give him a second chance, but you did. You were right, you weren’t so different after all, and he’ll always be thankful for the opportunity to be something more to you.

I‘m loving falcon and winter soldier so much but when i was watching an episode the week before last week (?) my laptop broke😭😭😭😭 during the scene where the dora milaje came at the end my laptop just shut down? And it had these lines all over the screen and i had to bring it to the shop where i bought it and they said it‘ll take 6-8 weeks to repair 💔💔💔 but at least it‘ll be for free, cause if i brought it back to apple it would cost like 400€ (i think that‘s nearly 500$) so yeah. but it sucks cause now i‘m “going to uni“ on a really old rusty laptop and on my phone which kinda sucks. oh yeah and also i can‘t watch anything on there 😭 i definitely want to watch wandavision but it‘ll have to wait🤧

i used to be one of the people who‘d just do motherlode motherlode motherlode and just... what did i do? Why did i do that??? But not anymore lol. Like I said i haven‘t played sims in a few weeks but i‘ve been watching a few legacy challenge let‘s plays and usually i play with the aging off. So my sims just don‘t age 💀 but i could (should) turn aging on so that it stays exciting and i have limited time and everything. and once i get bored with my current sims i can just make them have kids and continue playing as their children when they get older- like recently i remembered that i haven‘t played the acting career in ages? and i haven‘t had a shop in ages? and i think you can even become a vet right??? like those are definitely some things i want to do in the next weeks!!! Also yes sksksjs i have a few hundred hours on sims as well (if not thousands 😭) it was just that one household that i‘d been playing with for 24hrs

AND GIRL SSKSKJD THE UNIVERSITY THING HAPPENED TO ME TOO, it was a while ago so i don‘t remember what degree and what job it was about but i made my sim study something for aaaaaages so she‘d get a better job from the beginning (you know what i mean like get in at a higher level)...... and i apparently studied the wrong thing cause i didn‘t get any benefits from studying and still had to start at level 1 and shit 🥴🥲

Oh also (this was like 2 weeks ago) Enisa and Michael did take in Michael‘s daughter and i think Enisa currently even has a higher/better relationship with the daughter than Michael but um💀💀💀 also i was hoping (since michael and enisa married (in their back yard i think lol) that the daughter (i forget what her name is😭) would have enisa as her step mom? Like you know how you can see the relationship and it says daughter or son or sister.. and i was hoping that it would say step mom but it doesn‘t say anything 🥲 but in my mind (and if the sims had proper family relations) she is her step mom😌 also Leo is a teenager now???? Prompt #46- Mako Aladdin!AU (Angsty-ish)

46. Requester’s Choice! ( For @princeasimdiya12 )

This AU is based on Aladdin, Disney's 1992 film. Some text is actually an excerpt from the transcript! I do not own Aladdin, nor the text from the film. Enjoy!

Nobody ever saw his face. He was careful not to let anyone get that close, not even his friends. He always wore a tattered red cloak; it was almost like a calling card. If you saw a blur of red and the slender shadow of a man disappearing into the alley, you would know it was Mako.

Mako had lived on the streets all his life, first living in and out of dilapidated orphanages with his brother Bolin. Then roaming the streets, trying to survive on what they could steal. They had never known their parents. Maybe that lack of parental affection was what drove Mako to become a pickpocket, or maybe it was the desire to have something for himself, to call his own (even if it wasn't actually his).

"Mako!" Bolin called happily. Pabu, his fire ferret rested on his shoulder. Mako had just returned home from a day scavenging in the local market, his bag filled with stale bread and lopsided fruit. He had even managed to snatch a shiny gold bangle, and he knew it could be sold for a pretty penny.

"Yes Bolin?" He tossed his younger brother a stale loaf of bread, Bolin caught it and smiled, breaking off a chunk for his little pet.

"I saw her again, Princess Asami! She's gorgeous." Bolin looked star struck. He always had an affinity for the royalty of the kingdom, even if they could give a crap about the lowly people living in poverty.

"Yeah whatever. The Sato's don't care for us. If they did don't you think they'd try and use even a small part of their endless fortune to help build up this end of the city? Or maybe even just help feed the orphans?" Bolin looked down at the bread in his hand. Mako's shoulders slumped.

"I'm sorry Bolin." He walked over and sat down next to his brother, wrapping an arm around his shoulder. "I shouldn't take my frustration out on you, you just know how much I hate the royalty of this damn city." His brother nodded, but still seemed sad. Mako sighed.

"Tell me about her." Bolin's eyes gleamed with pure happiness.

"Oh my gosh! She's so pretty! Her perfect green eyes are so kind! And her dress just seemed to flow in the wind!" If it were possible, Mako knew that Bolin would have hearts in his eyes. He's only seen the princess from behind, so he took his brother's word for it. He smiled lightly.

"I'm gonna go sell this and see how much I can get for it." Bolin nodded. Mako pulled his hood up, ducking out of the rooftop shack they found for shelter. He grabbed the rope and swung down onto the next building over, being careful to tie the rope up so he could climb back up. The tall slender teenage boy peaked over the edges, taking care none of the royal guards were patrolling. Once he knew he was safe, he quickly climbed onto the ledge and hopped down into the alley, making sure nobody was around. He couldn't let anyone know who he was. He could see the black cloth that hung above the fence.* Once he swung down to the side door, he knocked three times, the sign that he was outside.

"Ah, Hello Mako!" The old man opened the door and let him inside. There were a few older men roaming around, browsing the many stolen treasures laid out. One man, a tall man with long hair glanced over at him and looked him up and down.

"What can I help you with?" Mako held out the gold bangle.

"Ah what a gorgeous piece, whoever lost it must miss it dearly." Mako nodded, he didn't want to speak, especially with the strange man looming nearby.

"This I'm sure is worth a lot, but I can only give you 10 gold pieces for it. Mako nodded, glad he received anything. The old man dropped the gold in his hand.

"Pleasure doing business with you!" He dropped the coins into the pouch tied to his hip, each making a satisfying clink. He nodded again, ducked into the dark alley to return home.

Mako made it a few yards before he realized that there was footsteps echoing behind him. He turned quickly and saw the same tall man behind him. He clutched the money bag tightly.

"Who are you? What do you want!" Mako said sternly. The tall man slowly advanced forward, as soon as he was close enough he noticed it was Tarrlok, the Sato's trusted advisor.

"Hello street rat." I scowled at him as he smirked at me.

"What do you want Tarrlok?"

"Oh you know just your ass in jail, but as of now I'm going to put that behind us, because I have a little deal to make with you." Mako didn't trust Tarrlok at all. This man was known for manipulating the poor folks to do his dirty work.

"What kind of deal?" Tarrlok's smirk widened, as if he knew he had a poor little rat in a corner.

"I've been doing some research, and I'd like to explore the Cave of Wonders." The older man's voice was like velvet, but Mako could tell he was as slippery as a snake.

"And why are you telling me this?" Tarrlok raised his brow.

"Well of course, I being the trusted advisor of King Sato I must remain here to aid him, you will be going with a few of my trusted guards to the Cave of Wonders to collect this prized object, return it to me and I will pay you a handsome fee!" Mako's eyes widened. It couldn't be this easy, there had to be a catch.

"No, no catch." Mako's eyes widened. A chill ran down his spine. "I can also easily persuade the king to allow a fund to be distributed to the orphanage if that pleases you." Mako rolled his eyes, as if he had to persuade the king to do anything. Tarrlok seemed to make all the laws and rules, the bumbling king just signed the papers. Nobody had even seen the king outside of the palace since Princess Asami was born and the Queen died.

"I swear on my life that I will uphold our end of the deal, as long as you uphold yours. You must bring me back treasure without disturbing it, and I will make you and your little brother as rich as kings." Mako's eyes widened. Bolin! What would he tell his brother? Should he just leave, and not say a word?

"Deal?"

"Deal."

"Are we there yet?" Mako asked the burly guard holding the map.

"A few more yards. It should be just over this hi-" The guard stopped as they reached the top of the hill. Below was the cave, it seemed as if a giant tiger was frozen in time, it's mouth suspended open. It's eyes glowed an eerie white color, a yellow glow coming from inside its mouth.

"It's nothing like I've ever seen before." Mako said sliding down the hill, and standing back from the glowing entrance.

"Stay on task street rat. Here's the treasure. Make sure you get it. Don't! And I repeat don't, rub it." Mako grabbed the parchment and saw a beautiful golden lamp. He turned and stood in front of the mouth. As he got closer, the mouth sprung alive, shocking the three men.

"Who disturbs my slumber?" Mako stumbled back.

"It is I, Mako." The cave eyed the young man for a moment.

"Proceed. Touch nothing but the lamp." The mouth of the cave opened wide.

"Remember boy, the lamp!" Mako nodded, beginning to descend the long winding staircase. Once he reached the bottom he entered a room filled floor to ceiling with glittering gold and gemstones. He followed the path taking care not to step on or touch anything. As he advanced through the cave he felt as if something was following him. He quickly turned and saw a beautiful magic carpet peaking out from behind a pile of gold.

"A magic carpet! C'mon. I'm not gonna hurt you." The carpet slowly crept out.

"Wow, you're amazing! Do you think you can help me?" Mako reached for the parchment and showed it to the carpet. It flew up and danced around in the air.

"I take it, you know where it is?" The carpet flew forward as Mako followed. The pair reached a long tunnel. There seemed to be a bright light. Mako, excited that he was almost finished with his mission, found a long cavern with a tall pillar with a beam shining down from above.

"That must be the lamp!" Mako hurried forward, taking a walk up the steep staircase. While Mako climbed the staircase to the lamp, the curious carpet noticed a monkey statue with a glittering, giant ruby. Entranced in it's beauty the carpet wrapped around the jewel just as Mako grabbed the lamp. The ground around the two began to rumble.

"You have touched the forbidden treasure." Mako looked around in a panic. He began to rush down the stairs, but halfway down they disappeared, turning the once steep stairway into a slide. Mako's eyes widened as he noticed the water that was once surrounding the pillar turned into boiling hot lava.

"Carpet!" The blue carpet rushed towards him, catching him midair before he landed in the lava.

"Oh carpet what did you do!" As the ceiling began to crumble Mako and the carpet dodged and weaved through the Cave of Wonders until they reached an opening. Just as they were finally about to be free, a giant boulder the size of an elephant fell from the opening. Mako drove for the wall, but the carpet wasn't so lucky.

"Help me!" Mako yelled to the guards. They both began to laugh at Mako's misfortune.

"Give us the lamp!"

"Please! I can't hold on much longer! I'm gonna fall!" All the while Mako was struggling to pull himself up, carpet was being surrounded by lava. It tugged and pulled until finally it was free!

"Just pass the lamp and we'll grab your hand!" Mako reluctantly reached into his cloak and passed the two guards the lamp.

"Hahaha! I finally have the lamp!" The two guards began to fade away as Tarrlok appeared.

"You tricked me!"

"Yes! And I'm going to give you your reward now! Death!" Mako's mind flashed to Bolin. He had to survive for him. Just as Tarrlok went to push Mako from the wall, carpet soared out and knocked Tarrlok to the group, scooping up Mako and the lamp that had been discarded on the ground.

"Now, let's go home buddy!" Mako said, cheering at his victory.

No Sick Days {Moxiety Sick Fic}

Patton wakes up feeling sick, but he has so much to do today, that he can’t take a break.

Warnings: Sickness, Remus, Deceit, mentions of puke, passing out. (If I missed a warning, let me know please!)

Patton woke up feeling icky and lightheaded. He felt covered in sweat and his eyes were out of focus more than usual without his glasses on, and his body felt lacking his strength to hold him up properly. However, he had things to do, as all husbands and fathers of three usually do. He had to make Virgil, and the kid's breakfast, take Roman to acting lessons, drop Remus at his friend's house to work on a school project, and offer help for Logan’s science fair project to be ready for Monday. Not to mention to tidy the house and laundry.

Such a busy man doesn’t have time to lay in bed and sleep.

He looked at the clock. 6:30. It was a bit earlier than he usually woke up, but he didn’t want to risk falling back asleep. However, he didn’t make it out of the bed, as he was pulled back down gently by Virgil.

“Where do you think you’re going?” He asked, still half asleep, but awake enough.

“I was going to get a start on the day!” Patton said, making his voice a higher pitch to hide his tired voice. “You can never be too early.”

Virgil rose a brow. “First off, yes you can. And second, it’s way too early to do anything. At least stay in be for another half hour?” Virgil asked, already snuggling close to Patton, burying his head in his chest.

Patton chuckled lightly at his husband, true love in his eyes. He didn’t want to risk sleeping in, but he couldn’t say no to Virgil and caved in. “Okay, maybe just a few more minutes.”

“Knew you’d stay,” Virgil mumbled, already falling back to sleep again.

Patton felt slightly dazed when he felt a cool hand touch his forehead, waking him up. His eyes opened to a worried Virgil standing over him. “Virge?”

“Pat! Are you feeling okay?”

Patton felt worse than before despite the short nap. He felt generally warmer, and his head hurt more. But seeing the worry on Virgil’s face, he knew that would only worry him to hear. “I feel fine, why?”

“Your burning up. I think you’re coming down with something.” Virgil told. “Maybe you should stay in bed for the day, catch up on some rest and such.”

Patton shook his head, sitting up. He felt his head rush with dizziness, but he ignored it. “I’m fine, Virgil. I probably just overheated with all the blankets we have.” Patton lied easily, making his gut turn in guilt. “I’m fine, promise! Besides, I have lots to do today.”

“I could he--”

“No no! It’s finally your day off, you rest.” Patton leaned over and kissed Virgil’s forehead. “Relax, hun.”

Virgil sighed, knowing he couldn’t get past Patton’s stubbornness. “Okay… but you better take it easy!”

“I will. Now, you go get yourself settled downstairs, I’ll wake the kids and get a start on breakfast.”

“Heh. have fun with those adorable trainwrecks.” Virge joked, kissing the back of Patton’s hand before leaving for downstairs. Patton finally got out of bed and quickly changed out of his sleepwear. He put on his cat sweater that youngest, Logan, got for his birthday last year, a blue skirt, and blue knee-high cat socks. He felt playful today, despite his terrible headache and sore body. He can be cute anytime he wants, sick or not!

He finished cleaning himself up for heading to the kid's rooms. Roman and Remus shared a room while Logan got one to himself. Roman wanted a room to himself, but Logan had more stuff than he did, with all his books and such, that it would’ve been too difficult to move it all.

Heading to Logan’s room first, he knocked 3 times, lightly in case he was sleeping still. He didn’t want to startle the child. After a moment, a sleepy 13-year-old Logan opened the door, his glasses crooked on his face. “Good morning, father,” he yawned. “Waking me up for breakfast, I assume?”

“Well, it’s not made yet, but yes!” Patton knelt down to Logan’s height and fixed his glasses. “Did ya spend the night reading again?”

He nodded. “I read about a book that involved stars and how were made using different chemicals from the Big Bang Theory.”

“Sounds very interesting, kiddo! How about you get dressed and head downstairs with papa? I’m sure he’d love to hear all about it!”

Logan nodded, a faint smile on his face. Patton kissed his head and Logan sunk back into his room, gently closing the door. When Patton stood back up, he felt his head rush and lent against the wall for support as the world spun. He felt so lightheaded, but he things to do, and he wouldn’t let this stop him. Giving himself a moment, he walked to the next door over, smiling when he heard voices on the other side of the door. He gave the door and knock before opening it, knowing they wouldn’t hear it. It opened to reveal the two 15-year-olds, Roman and Remus, acting out the scene in Sleeping Beauty, where Prince Phillip fought against Maleficent’s dragon form. Roman was the prince, pointing his wooden sword at Remus, who was Maleficent and who was standing on the top bunk, dressed in a dragon costume.

“Where is my dear princess, you dragon fiend!?” Roman asked, acting pretty well.

“Hahaha, as if I’d tell you, you poopy prince!” Remus retorted back, making a face at Roman. “You will never defeat me and my beloved Condom!” Remus then held up a hamster ball with his pet fish, Condom, in it. The fish actually didn’t mind being in there.

Roman groaned “Urg, Remus, that’s not the line!”

Remus shrugged and held Condom up to his face. “I don’t really care, Condom liked my performance, anyway.”

“She’s a fish, Remus! There is no way you could know that.”

“I feel it. I feel it right here.” Remus pointed to his butt, making Roman roll his eyes.

“You’re disgusting.”

“And you’re annoying. You and your fish.”

Roman gasped loudly. “How DARE you insult my dear Disney?! She is a goddess!”

Patton, although he did enjoy watching them, knew this could go too far and stepped in. “Now now, kiddos. No fighting, okay. Both your fishes are amazing!”

“DAD!” They both cheer, smiling brightly.

“Hey, kiddos! Since you’re already dressed, wanna head downstairs while I make breakfast?”

“Okay.” “Sure,” they said.

Patton nodded. “Make sure to feed the fishes, as well, before you do.”

He closed the door just as Logan left his room, dressed in his usual jeans and button-up. However, his tie wasn’t done up yet. “Ah, father, may I borrow you for some assistance? It will only be a moment, I’m sure. I just need help with my tie”

“Sure thing, kiddo!” He knelt in front of Logan once again and did up Logan’s tie. While he did, Logan suddenly touched his forehead.

“Father, you seem to have a rise in your temperature. Maybe consider taking a ‘sick day’?”

“No no, I’m okay, just a warm day.” When he finished the tie, he patted Logan’s head and stood up. “Besides, we have to finish your project today, don’t we?”

Logan’s face lit up, smiling up at Patton. “That’s correct. For the science fair!”

Patton smiled, feeling a burst of energy. Seeing his kids all happy and upbeat fills him with joy.

Patton kept that energy all the way through breakfast and clean up afterwards. But he started feeling worse than before as the day went on. It was an hour before he had to take Roman to acting lessons and Remus to Dee’s house. Patton didn’t feel safe enough to drive like this, but he had to do something,

“Ro and Re?” He called. The boys stopped looking at their phones and turned to Patton. “How about we walk instead of me driving? It’s a beautiful day out, let’s enjoy it!”

When the boys excitedly agreed to walk, they packed up all they need. As they did, Virgil walked up to Patton, who had changed into a cat tank top that matched his sweater. “Pat, you seriously aren’t looking too good. You should really stay at home.”

“Virge, I really am fine. It’s just a warm day. I’m sure a walk will cool me off!”

Virgil didn’t seem convinced as Patton left with Roman and Remus. Virgil knew Patton tended to lie with things like this, and it annoyed him that Patton couldn’t take time for himself. Virgil felt a small hand holding onto his, he looked down to see Logan holding his hand, a worried look also on his face. Virge held his hand tighter, pulling his son closer. “Yeah, I know, Lo… I’m worried too…”

The first stop they reached was Dee’s house. Remus ran ahead and rapidly knocked on the door until the annoyed face of Dee appeared. “Remus, must you be so annoying?”

“Duuuh, it’s my job, Dee-Dee!” Remus giggled as Dee rolled his eyes.

“Whatever, just get inside. You brought your work, right?” He asked, waving goodbye and closing the door when Remus was inside.

The next stop was Roman’s theatre. It was a bit further into town, about a half-hour walk. Patton and Roman chatted, but Ro defiantly carried the conversation as Patton was just trying his best to walk straight.

“Dad, you okay?” Roman asked, concerned.

“I’m fine kiddo, just really hot out,” Patton said, fanning himself to make his lie more believable. It seemed to satisfy him as they made their way.

When they arrived, Patton gave Roman a big hug as usual. “Have lots of fun, Ro-Ro. You’re gonna do great!”

“I know I will!” He said proudly. “Love you!” He said before running into the building, meeting up with his friends Joan and Talyn.

As Patton made his way back home, he felt horrid. His body was barely listening to him as he swayed while walking and his mind made the world spin. His stomach felt like it was burning food he didn’t have, which caused his chest to hurt from the heaving he was doing trying to hold back vomit.

“Uh, gurl-friend?” Patton heard a voice call out. He barely managed to turn, seeing his friend and neighbour, Remy standing there, holding a Starbuck’s as usual. His glasses were slid down his nose a bit so he could get a good look at Pat. “You look like shit.”

Patton couldn’t even say anything back, because when he tried, he felt like he was about to puke. He held his mouth tight with one hand, the other holding his gut. He felt so lightheaded that everything went white for a second.

Then he passed out.

When Patton woke up again, he was met with the worried face of his husband, who put a fresh damp cloth on his head. “Virge?”

When Virgil head his husband’s voice, he pinched the bridge of his nose. “Why do you do this Patton? Why do you push yourself past your limits?”

“Virgil?” Patton asked, worried.

“You scared me, Patton!” Virgil said, his voice raised. “When Remy called me saying you collapsed, I froze, Pat! I was so scared, scared that you’d pushed yourself to death! I can’t take this Patton! I can’t-- I can’t lose you like that, I can’t lose you! I was so scared Pat…!” Virgil had tears falling rapidly down his face. He grabbed Patton’s hand and held it to his chest tightly. Pat could feel his fast heartbeat. “You have to take care of yourself… Please, please, just… take care of yourself. The world won’t fall apart if you take a break. We can take care of ourselves from time to time. You don't have to push yourself.”

Patton didn’t realize he was crying till Virgil wiped his tears away. Pat pulled Virgil’s hand to his lips and kissed it gently. “I’m sorry, Virge, I’m so sorry… I just, I feel like I’m enough for you all.”

“Pat, you are enough. You are always enough.”

Patton smiled, feeling love swell in his chest. “I love you.”

“I love you too… We all do.”

Morgan Rielly Story

Chapter One:

“Hails, can you come here for a minute?” called Jess from her home office. I was folding the children’s laundry when I heard her voice so I quickly put finished folding Max’s onesie and put it in the pile I had already finished.

The Green family hired me to be their nanny when Nate was three, Ella was one year old, and Jess was just starting her fashion line in Vancouver. Initially, it was only supposed to be a one-year contract. However, three years later I am still happily working for their family. Since joining the Green family three years ago they had another son Max who has just turned 16 months yesterday. Jessica became a world-famous fashion designer. Tom got a job offer to be the official team doctor of the Toronto Blue Jays. When they asked me if I would be willing to move to back to my home province with them it was a no brainer to pack up everything and move with them. They had never treated me like I was just their employee; they made me feel like a part of the family since day one.

So here we are 5 months later settling into our new house, our new routine and our new city.

“Would you try this on for me?” asked Jess once I stepped into her home office. I noticed that hanging by the window was a beautiful black strapless dress.

I grabbed the dress from the hanger and made my way to the makeshift change room Jessica created. As I was putting on the dress I couldn’t help but look at my reflection in the mirror. What I was not expecting was for my breath to be taken away as I looked at my reflection. The dress accentuated my curves perfectly and made me feel confident in my body. All throughout elementary school and high school, I was always chubby. Finally, in college, I took a hard look at myself in the mirror and realized I needed to make some changes for myself so I could be comfortable in my own skin. The next day I started the journey to living a healthier lifestyle and started working out four times a week and eating healthy. A year later I had lost 20 pounds and I had the curves in all the right places and I had lost my stomach fat.

I took a deep breath and stepped outside of the change room. Jessica’s eyes widened and she gasped as she looked at me in her dress.

“Oh Hailey, you look absolutely breathtaking. This dress will be perfect for tonight.”

“Um…. What’s tonight?”

“Oh my gosh! I thought we told you. The Maple Leafs are hosting an event for the season ticket holders and Tom and I can’t go. We thought you and Katie could go instead.”

Katie is my best friend since kindergarten that lives in Toronto and works for sick kids.

“Haha, no problem. I will text her now so that she gets a dress ready.”

“No, No. I have a dress here she can wear for tonight. It's my fault you guys didn’t get a heads up, it’s the least I could do.”

“Oh, Hailey. You just look so beautiful in that dress. That dress was made for you. Would you mind if I took your picture in it before you go so that I can post it on my Instagram?”

I grabbed my phone and took a picture in the mirror and airdropped it to Jess so that she could post it on her professional Instagram account.

As I was looking at the mirror, Jess walked behind me and whispered in my ear “the players will not be able to resist you.”

I quickly turned around and faced her “you know I don’t date athletes after what happened.”

“I know hails, but it will still be a confidence boost if they can't keep their eyes off of you.”

“Thank you, Jess, I appreciate everything you do for me.”

“Tom and I owe you more than this, you do an amazing job with our children. We love you and could not be happier that you are a part of this family.” Jess said as she pulled me in for a hug.

“It’s Friday night I can take care of the kids. Your off duty nanny Hails, go get ready for your evening.”

I grabbed the dress and headed towards my wing of the house. Our house in Toronto has a separate part of the house that has a kitchen area, and master bedroom separate from their living quarters. It is perfect for me as a 24-year-old as it gives me my own space from the family.

Once I got to my part of the house I set the dress down on my bed and pulled out my iPhone to call Katie to invite her to the event.

“What are you doing tonight?” I asked as soon as I heard Katie’s voice on the phone.

“No hello first?” she questions giggling on the line.

“Hello… Now answer the question!” I asked laughing.

“I have no plans”

“Well, now you do. Jess and Tom can’t go to the maple leafs season ticket holder event so we are going instead. Jess says she has a dress here for you.”

“That’s so exciting! I will head over to your place after I shower.”

“Okay, see you soon,” I said as I disconnected the call

Once Katie arrived Jess gave her the dress and we headed to my part of the house to get ready. I quickly curled my brown hair into loose waves and did my make up so that my blue eyes would pop. Next, I grabbed my beige heels and slipped into the black dress.

Once ready we both walked into the main area to leave for the event. When we walked into the room Nate quickly ran up to me and gave me a big hug saying that I looked beautiful. Ella stated that I looked like a Disney princess and Max toddled over to me and gave me a big hug.

As we were standing at the front door Jessica came up to us.

“Oh, girls you guys look amazing, enjoy your evening and the open bar!”

“Thanks, Jess” we both smiled as we gave her a big hug.

With that, we were out the door and into the uber heading to the Fairmont Royal York Hotel. When we got to the gate we handed our event tickets to the security guard standing at the front of the building and headed into the event. Once we walked into the banquet hall we were handed a glass of champagne.

“To an awesome year of being in the same providence again” stated Katie as we tapped our glasses together, raising it up to our lips and taking a sip.

As we looked around the room from our seats Katie noticed Brad the guy she was dating walk into the room. She pointed him out to me and linked her arm with mine as we made our way over to him to say hello.

“Brad, this is Hailey my best friend I was telling you about!” exclaimed Katie as she gave him a big hug.

Brad looked at me over Katie’s shoulder and stuck his hand out to shake mine.

“It’s very nice to meet you, Hailey, Katie has told me a lot about you.”

“All good I hope! We have gone on some crazy adventures together.” I exclaimed as I started giggling at the memory of losing my purse after a few too many drinks. That night ended with a phone call from the police stating they found my purse and meeting up with them to get it back.

I could tell Katie had told him about that night because when I looked at her she couldn’t stop giggling.

“Katie, says that you’re the trainer for the leafs. That must be a cool job”

“I am very lucky to be able to do what I do.”

“Babe would you be able to take a picture of Hailey and me?” she asked as she handed him her phone.

We quickly sat down on the couch, holding up the wine bottle and wine glasses that we had been drinking since arriving at the gala.

Just as we were posing for the photo brad tried to get us to laugh for a candid photo.

“Try not to lose your purse tonight Hailey.” He said laughing.

We couldn’t contain our laughter as we remembered that adventure. As we were laughing Brad kept taking our picture getting natural laughing photos.

“Hahaha, I’m not planning on drinking that much tonight. It’s your girlfriend here that is the bad influence.”

“Now that I believe,” added Brad as he sent a wink Katie’s way.

“Hey,” Katie said not being able to keep faking her anger as she burst out laughing.

Brad handed Katie her phone back and we scrolled through the photos.

“Oh My God, these pictures are amazing,” I stated as I looked at the photo of us laughing. “Send it to me so I can post it onto my Instagram account!”

Katie and I headed back over to the table we were assigned and sat down. Once at the table, a beautiful blonde came up to us

“You guys look beautiful in your dresses. I’m Lucy.”

I gave her a smile “Thank you. You look beautiful as well. My name is Hailey.”

“I’m Katie.”

“I must ask where did you get your dresses. They look amazing.”

“Jess Green designed them for us,” Katie said as she smiled at Lucy. ‘Hailey here is her children’s live-in nanny” Katie added.

“Wow, that’s amazing. How old are the children you look after?” asked Lucy as she sat down at the table with us as she had happened to be assigned to the seat, Katie.

“They are 6 years old, four years old and sixteen months old.”

“wow, you have your hands full. My son is eight months old.”

“awe, would I be able to see a photo?” I asked.

“Of course,” Lucy said as she pulled out her phone and showed me a picture of her son.

“We will have to have a play date in the park soon” stated Lucy “What’s your Instagram?”

“sounds good. It’s @haileybaker95.”

“You should meet my friend Morgan…. he won't admit it but you have him nervous and he has been trying to work up the courage to come to talk to you since you walked into the event,” Lucy whispered into my ear.

I looked around her a noticed that Morgan Rielly was looking our way. I’m not going to lie he was very attractive. He was wearing a blue suit with a burgundy tie.

Lucy waved at him and he slowly made his way over with Jake trailing behind him.

Once Morgan got to the table he sat down in his spot that happened to be beside me.

“Morgan this is Hailey and Katie. Girls this is Morgan and Jake my husband.”

“Morgan, Hailey lived in Vancouver as a nanny for three years and they just moved to Toronto,” Katie said sending me a wink.

“Really! That’s awesome where did you live?”

“We lived in North Vancouver”

“I grew up in North Vancouver and go back every summer.”

“I absolutely loved living in BC… it has beautiful waters and breathtaking mountains.”

“What brought you back to Toronto?”

“The family I work for got a job as the team doctor for the Toronto Blue Jays so we made our way here. I grew up just outside of Toronto so it's nice to be home.”

“I love living in both Toronto and Vancouver.”

“Mo did you actually stick to the diet this summer?” asked Jake as he started teasing him.

“I didn’t break the diet I just bent it a little.” Added Morgan as he started laughing.

“Mo here is notorious for buying chips every time he is at the grocery store.” Added Jake.

“You always need sweet chilly heat chips in your shopping cart.” Added Morgan.

“Chips are my weakness… well, that and ice cream on top of freshly baked chocolate chip cookie.” I said.

“I can’t even go down the frozen aisle or I am game over!” Morgan exclaimed. “Warm cookies and ice cream are the A plus of desserts! You get warm from the cookie and the cold from the ice cream and the cookie starts to melt the ice cream.

“Hailey here is an amazing baker” added Katie.

“You will have to bake me some cookies then” stated Morgan as he started to flirt with me.

“Sounds good,” I said as I sent a smile Morgan’s way.

I couldn’t help the wave of emotions that took over me as I felt this connection with Morgan that I never felt before. It was like something was pulling us together.

Immediately flashbacks of Lucas came rushing into my head, specifically his words of “no one will ever love you as I do.”

I quickly excused myself from the table and headed to the ladies room, both Lucy and Katie following me.

“You’re probably wondering why I basically ran to the bathroom,” I said as I looked at Lucy through the mirror. “I’m not going to lie. I’m scared of the connection I already have with Morgan and I just met him. I promised myself that I would not date another athlete after what happened.”

Lucy stepped right beside me “may I ask why you don’t want to date another athlete?”

“I dated a hockey player while I was living in Vancouver. He had just been called up to the Canucks and he made me fall for him fast. I was so in love with him I thought we would be getting married and starting a family. What I didn’t know was that throughout our 2-year relationship he was cheating on me the whole time. When I found out I was heartbroken and I couldn’t believe that the person that I thought was going to start a life with betrayed me in such a way. When I broke up with him he convinced me that he would change and that I was the one he wanted to spend the rest of his life with.”

I took a deep breath and continued with the story.

“I stupidly gave him another chance and he manipulated me into believing that no one would ever love me besides him and that he was the one for me. For months I couldn’t get them throughout his affairs out of my mind. But every time I thought about leaving I couldn’t get his words out of my head… What if no one else would ever love me? What if he was it for me? What if no one could love some who was too weak to leave a bad situation?”

As I finished telling her what Lucas had done, she pulled me into a big hug

“Oh Hailey, I can not even imagine what that must have been like. But I can promise you that Morgan would never do that. I have known him six years and I can tell you he is one of the sweetest guys I know.” She said as she pulled out of the hug.

I quickly wiped the tear that fell from my eyes and smiled at Lucy “Oh my god, I am so sorry that was an emotional story for just meeting someone but thank you for being here for me. I guess I needed to get that off my chest.”

We headed out of the bathroom and I walked towards Katie and Brad, Lucy made her way towards where Jake and Morgan were standing. Throughout the rest of the evening, Morgan and I could not stop locking eyes but neither of us made the move to talk to each other again.

As the event was winding down, I pulled out my phone to call an Uber. As I made my way outside to wait outside Morgan came towards me and opened the door for me to step through.

“Thank you.”

Just as we walked out of the hotel my uber arrived.

“That’s me,” I said as I gave Morgan a hug.

“Have a good night Hailey. I hope I can see you soon. ” He replied giving me a smile.

“Maybe Morgan. Have a good night” I turned around and said as I stepped into my ride.

Once in the car, I couldn’t believe I had just hugged Morgan… Like who does that to someone they just met and had a couple of conversations…. Especially one who was as well know as Morgan in the city of Toronto that was like hugging a celebrity after meeting them in the streets.

Morgan’s Point Of View

All night I couldn’t help but look at the mysterious brunette in the black dress as she stood across the room from me. I noticed her as soon as she walked into the room and she took my breath away when I saw her in that black dress. She looked absolutely beautiful but I couldn’t work up the courage to talk to her. I watched as her blue eyes had a sparkle to them as she laughed at what her friend had said.

Lucy noticed my staring and gave me a reassuring smile as she headed towards the mystery brunette that had captured my attention.

Once Lucy introduced me to her I found out my mystery girls is named Hailey. Once we started talking about Vancouver and our favourite junk food I knew I was in trouble and that I could see myself pursuing something with her.

Throughout the rest of the night, I couldn’t help but lock eyes with Hailey, as I was walking around the room and engaging with the other fans.

I noticed that Hailey was making her way outside to head home so I quickly ran to the door and held it open for her. The uber came to quick for my liking and I did not have the chance to ask for her number. Defeated I headed inside to find Lucy hoping that she had better luck than me.

Once inside the hotel, I found Lucy and Jake walking out of the banquet hall. I walked towards them.

“Hailey huh” Jake stated as he moved his eyebrows in a suggestive manner.

“I didn’t even get a chance to get her number.”

“I have her Instagram handle Morgan. I didn’t even think to get her phone number,” added Lucy as she gave me a smile.

I handed Lucy my phone and she opened a note on my iPhone and typed in Hailey’s Instagram. We said our goodbyes and I headed back to my place.

Once in bed, I opened my Instagram app and typed in her account name and clicked follow. I scrolled through her pictures and I couldn’t help but smile.

With each picture I saw on her account the more I wanted the chance to get to know her better.

Hailey’s Point of View

Our new place was in Forrest Hill so I hopped into an uber and headed home after the event ended. Once I got home I quietly opened the front door and made my way through the house to my wing. I opened my door and placed my jacket and wallet on my coat rack and made my way into my bedroom to put on my pajamas. Once in my pajamas, I made my way into my adjoining bathroom and started my nightly routine. My bed was calling my name so I quickly jumped into bed and laid my head on my pillow, just as my head hit the pillow I heard a ding from my bedside table. I looked over at my phone and noticed that I had a notification from Instagram. I opened the app and saw that some followed me. I assumed it would have been Lucy since I gave her my account name but to my surprise, I saw that two people follow me.

27. Have courage and be kind!

Hello, beautiful people! How are you? I am still in the middle of writing my project and receiving my exam (I need to know that grade because if I passed, I don’t need to study anymore for that subject).

My name is Nora and today I got to act like a Disney Princess!

How have I been? Hmm! Bored and locked in my own house. But no worries, I don’t spend all of my time studying. I have enjoyed a couple of movies on my couch and today I finished the third season of Veronica Mars (don’t judge me!).

So how have things been here? Not perfect but not terrible either. My father has been acting… lunatic? I will explain later. My mom… she actually went to a process of hearing people telling her that she has a favorite child, Lucas. Of course she said no but… who am I kidding hahaha. She is not exactly shy of showing it. And how does Lucas reacts? I will tell you.

So last Saturday, there was a football match. My neighbor invited Lucas to go with him and his son and I ended up babysitting their younger daughter. We ended up cooking veggies with fish for our dinner and had fun playing with my dog, who is doing so much better by the way. Her leg is perfectly functional!

Anyway, Lucas came back and the nexr day, my mom asked him how our neighbor was doing. We will call him, Rick for this. Rick is almost 18 years old and he has been going through some pretty bad times. His only friend was Lucas but unfortunately, when Lucas met Vicky he abandoned Rick. Rick stopped going to school, never left the house, stopped talking to anyone… Of course whenever my mom made Lucas visit him, he would just light up and look happy as a child. My family is pretty close to Rick’s family so I insisted that my mom would recommend Lucas to support Rick as he made clear he was not going to college and doesn’t want to do anything. And what did Lucas do? Let it be!

I mean don’t get me wrong. College is not the path for everyone. Some people start a job and are very sucessful but Rick is not the type of kid who will work is butt of to be sucessful in the field he ends up at. And Lucas, the person he likes the most, instead of help him and advice him, just let’s him act this way because, as he said “not my problem”.

I felt a bit mad. Rick has potential! He likes videogames. He would be perfect to design that sort of stuff. He has an eye for the market! But what can I do? Let me just make this clear. I am not saying it’s Lucas fault but as a friend, I think people have certain responsabilities. To give an example, I made clear to Will who also was kind of giving up that he had to fight for himself or he would be losing on life later on. And it worked a bit. He is not giving up at least. So this was my weekend. Pretty normal to this house. But today it was hell!

So I woke up and took care of my stuff: my dog’s meal, her medicine and walk, my breakfast... Normal. right? WRONG! First thing in the morning, I got outside to get my dog ready for the walk. I left the door opened for about 30 seconds. That was enough for my father to scream at me that a rat could come in! A RAT! We live in a good area and he is worried about rats. Oh sweet baby Thor!

Later in the day, he lost the remote to the garage. He was late for work so I tried to help to open the garage. He even screamed at my poor dog for being nervous about all that!

Stressful day am I right? But to finish this of in a nice way. A student from abroad asked for my help and he took is exam today and sent me a text thanking me for my help. I felt really happy to help him. Specially because he is very shy and some people in my class... don’t bother to make him feel welcome. He sat beside me the whole semester and I tried to help him but truth be told I am shy as well hahaha.

But sometimes, to help you have to do just like Cinderella, have courage and be kind.

So that is it for today! What are your thoughts on Rick’s topic? Should I try to help him even though he trusts Lucas way more?

Running a Gothic Horror Facebook Group during the autumn... (Not as pleasant as it sounds)

I’m getting kind of annoyed at the behavior of some (not all, obviously) people in my Gothic Horror Group on Facebook. It seems every year around October I get an abundance of new members and that’s great. It’s the Halloween season. That’s when people feel spooky. But then come late November I find myself having to thin the herd.

First there are the creeps who think Goth girls are easy. One man who had been friends with me on Facebook for a few years decided now would be a great time to flirt with me. On November 3rd he sent me the message of “I am a Gomez without a Morticia.” I suppose this is kind of sweet and makes clear the sort of romantic / Gothic relationship he’s seeking but I chose to pretend to be oblivious at what he was hinting at.

Yesterday that same man saw I had uploaded some new photos of myself. As I live in a deadzone I don’t have a functional cellphone so the camera I use to take photos of myself is attached to an old laptop. The best lighting in the house is in my own bathroom so that’s why the photos aren’t exactly great. And why so many of my photos look similar.

However this “polite” and “Friendly” man decided to message me with “I noticed you wear the same dress and pendant in all your pictures.” Well, for starters. I’ve never taken a photo of myself in a dress. I’m sure someone has one someone but I’ve never loaded one to Facebook and it would be at least ten-years-old. I just like a particular style of shirt and often wear dark colors or black. In fact the Shirt I was wearing in the new picture was less than two months old. Also a few of my photos have me wearing a garnet pendant. Others wearing a pentacle. So no, not even the same pendant in all my pictures though I do admit I wear my pentacle often.

Needless to say I was angry. How Could I not be? He thought he was being polite and friendly. Gee... And you wonder why you can’t find your Morticia...

I chewed him out and he apologized and told me a weird sob story about how he was abducted by his mother and her boyfriend at age twelve with only a TV as his window to the outside world until he was eighteen so that’s why he has such poor social skills. Despite the utter unlikelyhood of this I chose to give the benefit of the doubt and forgave him. He asked me to post on my Facebook wall that we were cool now. And that made me lose it again. I wasn’t quite not-angry anymore so I went off on him again about how his statement hurt me. So he decided to “unfriend” me until I calm down but chose to haunt the groups I run anyway. I had him removed.

Then there are those who criticize EVERY slightly off topic post. “How his this Gothic Horror?” Well, how about YOU find some actual Gothic Horror content so I don’t have to supplement with scifi, fantasy, and comics. Also most of what they bitch about not being Gothic Horror actually IS Gothic Horror. I had one member insist there’s nothing Gothic in Buffy The Vampire Slayer! (TV show, not movie.)

Then there was the “white knight” who decided to argue with me, insisting that Beauty and the Beast is Stockholm Syndrome and that it’s “dangerous” and “stupid” to believe people can change because it’s akin to condoning a violently abusive relationship because he might change. Even though I had gone out of my way to repeatedly say I don’t believe anyone should stay in an abusive relationship though DO believe we are capable of changing ourselves as individuals. There is such a thing as personal growth. Even changing your mind about something, admitting you were wrong, is a form of change.

Well, after he called my views stupid and dangerous I ultimately removed him but then his friends (all of them, also, male) came to his defense and how I should respect his opinion, that he has a right to his opinion. Opinions are like preferring chocolate ice cream to strawberry. It’s not getting away with calling the group owner stupid and dangerous for liking Beauty and The Beast and believing we can better ourselves. If we stop believing people can change for the better, we might as well stop believing we can grow. If you decide you’re not a good person but don’t believe people can change, where does that leave you? It leaves you with a mindset unwilling to even try to improve yourself and become a better person. We have to believe in change, for our own sakes.

Next we come to the spammers. Not only did I gain new spammers but they had blocked me and the other admins so I had to pull out my “secret mod” and give them temporary admin power to remove the person. You see, when a spammer blocks an admin we cannot see what they are posting. This is a very unfortunate and dangerous security flaw on Facebook.

Someone else (who actually was a horror fan) thought it was a good idea to block me, probably because I was “posting too much” ON MY GROUP!

Then there was the person posting links to a pro-suicide group, not realizing I could translate the non-English text that described what the group was about... (How were they getting away with this on Facebook!??)

Someone else with a “Dark sense of humor” was posting some off color things. I scolded him. He decided that “For the sake of the group” he’d leave. I hadn’t booted him, I hadn’t told him to leave. He decided to do it himself. THEN he sent me at least TWO private messages about leaving the group and hoping the group would be better off without him. I told him he was over reacting over something minor and he said “Funny, I felt the same way.” And proceeded to heavily hint that he wanted me to ask him to come back.

NO! You leave, that’s your own choice. I don’t beg anyone to stay. Especially someone I barely know on my own Gothic Horror Group.

Then we go over to my Horror comics group where for months I had to deal with someone’s “off color” sense of humor and “dark humor” about deliberately ruining the childhoods of modern kids (by letting their over-zealous mothers keep them away from Fairy Tales and Disney princesses as “sexist” because it’s “Funny.” This is something I’m strongly against. I do not agree with keeping kids from fantasy or classic literature just because cultures have changed). Meanwhile if I post ANYTHING at all from Channel Awesome or The Nostalgia Critic, from a review of Blade or Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight he would go on a tangent about how EVIL Doug Walker is and bring up that stupid Cancel Channel Awesome Manifesto, in some righteous rage. SHUT UP! I don’t care! He’s never wronged me or anyone I know and I don’t automatically assume guilt in any situation!

Finally I got fed up and removed this member.

And then there’s a friend, a friend who is in both groups and who I let get away with posting one too many of his anti-SJW / “progressives” rants (he uses the quotation marks, not me). Saying things like he hopes all progressives die, to which I have to remind him yet again that I AM liberal only for him to suffer an apparent medical emergency so I feel bad for yelling at him. EVEN THOUGH His “Hahaha suck it, “progressives! Hahaha!” (about the Joker earning a billion dollars) was in both groups and attracted angry political zealots from both sides of the spectrum. And I had to remove those people too!

It turned out his “Progressive” post had become the sample post when anyone searched for “Horror comics” so people leapt to conclusions about what the group was about.

And though on another group this is worth mentioning. Someone on a group I’m in posted a funny meme about someone correcting Dracula’s pronunciation of “Vant” into “Want.” Someone else chimed in by telling him it wasn’t funny because the REAL Dracula would just tear out the person’s throat and only a pussy Twilight vampire would care about something like that.

I pointed out that in the Dracula novel he does care about his pronunciation and wants to sound English. He even uses this as part of the excuse to keep Harker in his castle. I also broke it to him that the mindless predatory vampire of things like 30 Days of Night were also the result of Twilight in a phenomena I call the polarization of the pop culture vampire where you get one extreme of the pretty boy vegan who hates what he is or the mindless predator. Dracula is neither. I happen to like the Frank Langella version of Dracula from 1979 because he was predatory yet romantic. He liked what he was yet he was charming. He could rip out someone’s throat while also being charismatic. There should be a balance.

Instead of realizing he was mistaken he accused me of being an OFFENDED (he used the caplock there) Twilight fan who was “Triggered,” called me a snowflake, and went on a rant about liberals. Thankfully most of that group (a Universal monsters group) came to my defense. There were a few that assumed he was right because they seem to immediately react to things like “lol Triggered!” to mean (without even looking at the content that the person must be wrong.

So if you’re wondering why I’m so high strung and in a bad mood lately when I’m checking my own facebook groups, yeah... This is why.

What is your favorite thing to do on your phone? Tweeting, looking at my photos, or more recently, playing Mario Kart Tour hehe. Do you know what you are going to be for Halloween this year? Which Disney princess resembles you the most? Physically? Moana would probably be the closest. Which fairytale seems closest to your life story? I don’t really like fairytales so I don’t know enough of them to identify which one I could possibly relate to.

What color was your first phone? It came in a red Winnie the Pooh skin when my parents got it for me. Was your first phone a flip phone? Nah it was the old Nokia 3310. My third phone was a Sony Ericsson flip phone. Have you ever butt dialed someone? Nope, but I’ve called people in my sleep haha. What is your favorite pizza parlor? I genuinely do think I'm a very compassionate and gentle person, so while it would be ABSOLUTELY heartbreaking and probably scarring, I actually feel I'd be a good option for a doctor euthanizing a qualified patient.
