It started as an agreement and then came the first session. Honestly, you’ve seen your fair share of trauma being a therapist for Spider-people, hell, you’ve even gone through it yourself. Losing Aunt May, Peter L. Parker, and then Harry… you were never the same again. Yet you learned how to cope, how to survive. You made trauma your bitch and it was all due to understanding your psyche. And… also because of your Ph.D. in psychology. So it wasn’t a surprise that your schedule was always packed with various spider-people from different dimensions. Everyone wanted to know your secret. Everyone wanted to know how you were able to move on. It was the same story—different variations, sometimes in a different order. It was plaguing their minds, some coped by burying their heads in their work, others just lived with the guilt. But a few, like Miguel, were always reliving it.

Miguel O’Hara. Spider-Man 2099. You didn’t know much about him other than the fact that he was undergoing the same canon-event trauma as the other Spider-people. You didn’t know which ones since he never shared it in his first mandatory session. The only thing he was willing to share was his desire for a family and the mistake he made that cost an entire dimension to collapse.

Later, his sessions felt more like a briefing of your work, gauging the mental state of all spider-people to know if they're capable of working. You would always tell him the session was supposed to be about him but he would brush it off, saying he had too much work to do before leaving your office. And as always, you would watch his retreating back. His shoulders looked so broad, they could hold mountains—perhaps holding the weight of the multiverse could do that to you. A wise man once told you, “with great power comes great responsibility—strength, resilience.” But you knew what great power could also do to a man.

If the loneliness spewing from his demeanor wasn’t obvious enough.

Today it was your turn to enter Miguel’s office. Upside down, you tread along the ceiling, your hair obeying gravity and hanging limply in the air.

His office was mostly dark with an orange glow from the holograms in front of his monitors. You didn’t miss when he quickly swiped one of them away, his back stilling.

You were sure Miguel already knew you were here.

You lowered yourself with your web, turning your body upright until your feet reached the floor of the floating platform. He turned his head, not enough to look at you but enough to acknowledge your presence. His shoulders look wider— trembling even.

Sadness? You stepped forward and he turned back to face the monitors, fingers tapping away against the orange holograms. No, it was anger.

Minutes went by of silence until Miguel’s hands dramatically dropped to his sides, sighing. “What are you doing here?”

You smiled lightly, stepping forward. “Our first session, remember?”

“Don’t tell me you were serious about that,” he spitted out, hands returning to the holograms. He was investigating an anomaly that appeared on Earth-55, it was probably that villain belonging to Earth-1001. Lately, he’s been jumping from dimension to dimension, and not because he had the ability to do so. Miguel’s been tracking him down for days and trying to figure out what could be causing the rifts in the dimensions.

Meaning: he hasn’t been getting any sleep.

Miguel was a spider-man shouldering the very existence of all spider-people universes. With the connections of fate being as fragile as a spider’s web, a day of rest could be detrimental.

To feel as though you’re the only Spider-Man in the room while being surrounded by spider-people who understood you the most was a feeling Miguel was too familiar with. He never mentioned it in his sessions but you could see it in how he carried himself in front of his agents, how he stared at Peter B and Mayday, and how he looked when you first caught him rewatching himself with “his” daughter. Certainly, he was reliving his trauma.

“Of course,” you stepped forward until you stood directly behind him. His body stilled when your arms slowly encircled his waist. You could feel his muscles tensing. His fingers froze in the air. The orange glow from the holograms deepened like it was spreading to your bodies. “Weren’t you?”

You whispered and Miguel didn’t say a thing. Of course, he was warm like you imagined when you were preparing yourself for this. The scowl on his face often gave an impression that he was as cold as he looked. But he was very much alive like the rest of you—alive with emotions.

When you suggested he seek affection from someone to mend his trauma (that he never admitted having), he looked at you dumbfounded.

“Sometimes all we need is a hug, maybe a hand to hold to get rid of those troublesome feelings.”

And when you suggested that “someone” could be you, Miguel thought you were losing your sanity. It was no easy feat to convince him of the agreement. It took a few weeks until you got a very very annoyed “Okay” from him, probably to stop you from always bringing it up whenever you saw him.

It was simple. No kissing. No sex. Hugs and hand-holding only. The goal was to help Miguel feel a little less lonely sometimes. That was your job as one of the therapists at HQ, to mentally stabilize everyone’s mind, including the boss’s.

You rested your head against the middle of his back, arms tightening around him. You expected him to say something but he stayed silent, reddish-brown eyes staring into the monitors. It wasn’t just Miguel who was warm, but the space around you too—like the energy had shifted the moment you touched him.

Your skin under your suit started to prickle as if it was being pinched. The orange tinge of the holograms slowly blended into a deep red, the temperature rising as sweat appeared at your temple. Miguel could probably feel your heart rattling against his back. But like a rock, his muscles tensed up and his hands closed into fists.

Everything in your mind was telling you to let him go but you held on despite sensing the anger rising within him. Since losing his “daughter”, Miguel had closed himself to affection. Usually responding in annoyance or anger if he were to receive it. He had accepted his destiny long ago of being a loner. And any ounce of affection reminded him of his loss—and what he could lose.

Miguel’s hand moved on top of yours. Hissing in pain, you pulled your arms away from his body and immediately looked at your hand. His claws had pricked you. Thankfully, there was no blood.

“Session’s over, doc. That’s enough.” His voice was laced with venom. This time he partly turned to look at you and your heart sank seeing his deep red eyes. The outline of his figure was stained by the burgundy hue of the holograms. Perhaps the trauma of Miguel O’Hara was deeper than you thought. Your spidey senses were telling you to get out of there. This time you listened.

“Okay,” you shot your web towards the ceiling, quickly propelling yourself up and out of his office. Miguel sighed, burying his head in his hands before returning to his work.

Hello fellow internetians,

So to start this off, I write and draw but I'm working may way up to accepting art requests so I'm starting with writing first since I've done so before.

The names I go by are Ash/Arena so please address me by either of you need to. About a year ago now, give or take a couple of months, I got sick and ever since I've been having to rely on my mother's income. I want to help her out and so I'm taking commissions in any of the fandoms I list on the first page. Rules will be included below and I have a goal in mind that I wish to reach.

Currently said goal is 500 a month but I want to keep a hold on this goal for periods of time so every time it hits I'll reset.

I'm still getting accounts to other platforms set up so if needed I can be reached across various different platforms so I can keep up with everyone and so you all can keep up with me.

Hello Everyone,

As I listed in the description this book is for commissions and for the most part I'll be collecting requests from this book while also posting the requests in this book so you all don't have to search far to find your story after I'm done writing them.

My name is Arena, though Ash and Ashes are other names that I don't mind you all calling me by either. I am 20 years old and so most of my work will be for adults considering I am one. If you aren't an adult though you can still request but you'll have to go to the 'Underage Requests' Page and do it there which I'll be making before Post an 'Adult Requests' Page. Please do not lie to me about your ages because if you do I'll be upset.

Now for my story:

About a year ago, give or take some months, I got sick with Guillain-Barre and so I haven't been able to work thanks to being currently disabled. I have written commissions before on here and ao3 (archiveofourown) on different accounts so I'm doing that again. When I have all my accounts fully set up I'll mention them on this account by name under my account so you all can branch out and find me if needed. As stated I haven't been able to work or attend college like I was before so this is my way of making some much needed cash for myself and my family.

If you don't have the money that's fine, I'm not talking to you, but I do appreciate you reading my book and sharing it to bring more people to it in the future.

Oh, right, I completely forgot about the ring. Does everyone remember about the wonderful ring that controlled Iklis?

Careful, Jei is swearing again.

Attention! I still hold the opinion that fans of a character I don't like don't need to see my posts in recommendations or in tags, so please pay attention! This post is dedicated to criticism and the author is extremely angry and expresses his indignation in emotions. Therefore, if you do not want to read a post filled with my discontent and indignation - DO NOT OPEN the POST!

The ring that was supposed to control Iklis if he did not obey his mistress and which Penelope constantly wore.

The illusion of control, which was the only dividing line between the real Iklis and the fake.

So, all our sweet and obedient Iklis at the beginning of the story is the same lie as his words about love. Do you know why? If you look closely at the first chapters related to him, you will notice that Iklis was not watching Penelope at all, but the ring on her finger and, most likely, was thinking how to steal it.

Therefore, the innocent boy did not exist from the very beginning.

A scene from chapter 46, Penelope tells Iklis to stop. With which hand does she issue the order? That's right, the hand on which the ring is worn.

A scene from chapter 47. To which hand does Iklis press his head, swearing an oath of allegiance? That's right, the one wearing the ring. In general, I advise you to pay special attention to this chapter and follow the gestures of the characters. All Penelope's touches to Iklis pass through the hand with the ring.

That's why in chapter 55 we see how he doesn't accept the ring and presses her hand to him without it. This is another game. He pretends that he is tamed, that he does not need restrictions, because he will always obey her.

This guy is by no means stupid and perfectly understands or guesses that this was another test of loyalty, which he had to pass brilliantly so that Penelope would not have a single doubt about his loyalty.

But ha… When he asks for forgiveness, what does he press to his cheek? Fingers? Nah, the ring.

And what is not a little important, we see changes in the behavior of a quiet boy. The one who humbly endured all the attacks of other knights. He "suddenly" has a character, a desire to argue and insist on his own. And all why? Yes, because he realized what Penelope is by nature. And that he will be able to pick up the ring at any time convenient for him.

Why am I saying this so calmly? Remember what happened after. He began to play the role of a knight and an obedient servant, as Penelope wanted to see him, what she needed. But at the same time, he still puts pressure on her, pushing her to conditions that suited him, to which no other aristocrat would agree. But she would have been forced to accept them because she needed him. And he knew it perfectly well.

He realized this after a conversation on the bench, when she literally said: "Everyone hates and despises me, I have no protection, but you are my knight - you will never betray me." This was her weakness, which he repeatedly took advantage of.

A sharp change is visible in the chapter when Iklis taught her to shoot a crossbow, all so cute and nice, but as soon as Penelope turned her back on him, he grinned.

It is clear that it was rather a sincere laugh. But if he's all so sincere with his master, why did he laugh when she doesn't see it?

And when she turned around again, he was that harmless guy again. And then what? Iklis points the crossbow at Derrick, standing with his back to Penelope, who can't see his face. And ta-da. Here it is - the true face of Iklis.

Why did he do all this? To prepare an escape, which in the future would almost have turned out if an item in the form of "pick up Penelope" had not appeared in his plans. In his understanding, he thought through everything to the smallest detail, took everything into account, but in fact, he did not take into account the most important thing - Penelope is not him and she may have other views on life and priorities. Yes, they are similar, but this does not mean that they are the same in everything.

I would also like to mention something about "thought through everything to the smallest detail". Namely, Penelope herself in his plan.

Iklis used the carrot and stick method, in figurative expression. At one time he was unhappy and needed her care and support is a "stick". And in another, he was obedient and did everything as she told him, this is a "carrot". He believed that he had, showed that he was better than her brothers and family, that she would be fine with him.

I think it's time to hum a song from Tangled - "Mother Knows Best" Because this song shows Iklis and his methods of manipulation in the most appropriate way.

I also wanted to answer the question with this post: Why didn't Penelope help Iklis?

Because Iklis didn't need the help in question? Iklis didn't need Penelope's help, he needed her herself to get what he really needed - opportunities to get out, a status that allowed him to move freely, training that would help him defend himself and weapons that she gave him at the first opportunity. He had already received the ill-fated "help" when Penelope allowed herself to be controlled. Stop making an innocent boy out of him, he is absolutely not stupid in matters of intrigue and manipulation. He is smart, especially in matters where his interests are involved.

But then the question arises: If he is so smart, then why, when Penelope threw away the ring, did he cling to it so much? Because, Iklis - yandere. He's obsessed with Penelope. He is obsessed with his ambitions and his opinion, like the same Derrick. He considered her his, he thought she was his, and when it turned out not to be so, it broke his priorities in him and built another pyramid of needs.

He built a codependent relationship between them, which ultimately did not make Penelope dependent, who after escaping could hardly protect herself without him, feed herself without him, and in general take care of herself without him, but made him dependent on her.

He fell into his own trap.

Just remember how he explained it to Penelope herself. How quickly he changed his plans. He decided for her what she needed, he decided for himself who he would be in the picture of her world and decided for himself what he would do. He didn't let her get a word in and say what she really wanted.

Do I blame him for wanting to leave? No. Do I blame him for trying to save his life? No. I wouldn't classify him as a villain at all if he left when he was allowed or when he had the opportunity.

I condemn him for the actions he took after he threw away all chances to leave the duchy and decided get Penelope by all means.

Update: And yes, please stop justifying the mistakes and misdeeds of one character at the expense of another. Like, yes, he did bad, but THAT CHARACTER did even worse. It is not necessary to blame the responsibility on another, the other character is responsible for himself and his decisions.

And here's another thing, when you try to justify a character with a phrase: "but if…" it doesn't work. This is a theory, not an argument. There is a saying "if, yes, if mushrooms grew in the mouth, then there would be not a mouth, but a whole vegetable garden (in the original: если бы, да кабы, да во рту росли грибы, тогда бы был не рот, а целый огород. In English, in my opinion, there is a similar saying sounding: "Pigs could fly if they had wings")" - signifier, don't talk about what can't happen.

Remember this saying (choose the proverb that is closer to you) when analyzing a character, absolutely anyone, even a favorite ones. Because it is she who works as a reminder that a person is judged not by his words, but by his actions, decisions and deeds.

You entered the viewing room of the interrogation room where Hank was currently interrogating the Deviant. With you stood Gavin, the android, whose name you still haven't learned, and another officer. Each question he asked was left unanswered, leaving the Lieutenant frustrated.

After a little while he gave up and entered the room where you were all watching. "We're wastin' our time interrogating a machine, we're gettin' nothing out of it!" he complained, sitting at an unoccupied chair. " Could always try roughing it up a little." "After all, it's not human…" Gavin suggested. "Androids don't feel pain." The Android answered. "You would only damage it, and that wouldn't make it talk." "Deviants also have a tendency to self-destruct when they're in stressful situations."

"Okay, smartass." Gavin started, getting off the wall he was leaning against. "What should we do then?" "I could try questioning it." Gavin laughed at this, but neither Hank, the officer, nor you were laughing at this. "I say go for it, what do you think Hank?" you asked him. "What do we have to lose?" "Go ahead, suspect's all yours." With that confirmation, the android left. "So, how'd you get an android? You're the last person I would suspect of having one." You asked him. "He's not mine. Just showed up at Jimmy's and now I'm here." "That makes sense."

The android walked up to the one-sided mirror and started...

"What the fuck is it doing now?" Hank questioned. "I think he's checking himself out." You answered, just as confused as he was.

He walked back to the Deviant and began the interrogation. "I detect an instability in your program." "It can trigger an unpleasant feeling, like fear in humans." The deviant stayed quiet. You turned to Hank to finally ask the question that had been plaguing you. "Hey Hank, what's its name? The Android." "Hm, oh he told me it's Connor." You hummed in response and tuned yourself completely to the interrogation.

Connor continued to interrogate the deviant. I looked at Hank to see a proud grin showing on his face. "You look proud," I whispered. "I am impressed, but don't mention that to anyone," he whispered back.

After some more minutes, we got confirmation that he was done. We got off our chairs and entered the room. The officer (Chris) who was previously with us moved to the deviant. "Chris, lock it up," Gavin instructed. I leaned on the wall next to the door and continued to watch. "All right, let's go." This seemed to trigger the android as it swiped him away. "Stay away!" "Don't touch me!"

Chris ignored it and continued trying to move it. "The fuck are you doing?" Gavin questioned. "Move it!" "Okay," Chris muttered. "Come now. Don't be difficult, it'll only make things harder." Once again the android didn't budge and started moving away as he continued to try to move him. It kept begging him not to move it.

"Chris just stop you're gonna make things worse." I bugged in, getting off the wall. "You shouldn't touch it. It'll self-destruct if it feels threatened." Connor warned. "Stay outta this, got it? No fuckin' android is gonna tell me what to do." Gavin bit back.

You don't understand. If it self-destructs, we won't get anything out of it!" He pleaded. "I told you to shut your fuckin' mouth!" Gavin shouted. "Chris, gonna move this asshole or what?" "I'm trying!" He replied, a strain in his voice as he continued trying to move the distressed android. When it seemed to be enough Connor made a move to stop Chris. "I can't let you do that! Leave it alone now!" He ordered, pushing Chris away. "I warned you, motherfucker!" Gavin spoke angrily, with his gun now pointed at him.

"That's enough!" Hank spoke. "Mind your own business, Hank." I sighed at Gavin's response and pulled out my own gun, pointing it straight at his head. "He said… That's enough." Hank also pulled out his pistol and aimed it at him. With two guns now pointed at him Gavin frustratingly put his gun down. "Fuck," "You're not gonna get away with it this time…" He threatened us, pointing at us. He turned to Connor and moved closer, but he didn't say anything as he walked away and swore under his breath.

HEART'S FATE - CHAPTER 55

*Warning Adult Content*

Cold water envelopes him in a crushing embrace and Martin Hunter nearly gasps at the shock of the sudden change.

Pain pierces his ears and his head throbs with intracranial pressure.

He can't see and his lungs feel like they're going to explode.

Panic closes in and his body convulses.

'Be calm. You're all right.'

Princess Anemone's voice sounds inside my head, the vibrations amplified by the water.

She uses just enough of her power to cut through the chaos and terror and make him listen to her.

'Open your eyes.'

He obeys.

Anemone is right in front of him, holding him by the arms.

His eyes are ill-adapted to seeing in water and his vision is blurry but he can make out a few details nonetheless.

Anemone's hair floats free like red silk and her skin is covered in delicate patterns of pink and green scales.

Her loose gown has fallen away, shed in the water and her legs have become a long fishlike tail.

The end flares into a beautiful, streamlined fin and smaller fins sprout from her forearms.

Delicate webbing stretches between her fingers and a pair of transparent inner eyelids allow her to see clearly underwater.

Her green eyes meet Martin's, her brows pinched and she lays her hands alongside his face.

'We don't have much time,' she says. 'I but if you allow it, I can buy us a little more. I can help you feel calm. Slow your heart rate. You'll be able to hold your breath a few minutes longer.'

When he was a kid, martin was proud to say he could hold his breath for a family record of three minutes.

At the moment, he feels like he'll be lucky if he lasts one.

Martin nods.

Anemone's lips move but again it sounds as if she's speaking directly inside his head.

'You are calm,' she says. 'Your heart beats like the slowest drum. Nothing hurts. You are safe. You're all right.'

It isn't true.

He knows it's not.

He's in serious pain and he's got minutes to live.

But he believe her anyway.

His heartrate slows, his fear melts away and a strange tranquility settles over him.

Martin feels like he could hold his breath forever.

Meanwhile, as Anemone looks over his shoulder and through the one-way barrier into the throne room, her own expression registers alarm.

'They're through,' she says and spins me around.

For a moment, Martin thinks she merely wanted me to see Natalis pointing angrily and shouting soundlessly at her guards.

Then, she wraps her arms around his chest, hugging him tight and streamlining his body against hers.

'Tell me when when you sense her strongly,' Anemone says. 'Tap my arm. And pinch me if we overshoot.'

Martin nods and makes a noise in his throat.

Behind them, he hears other noises and Anemone says something in Mer-folk that sounds like a swear.

'Kárkos. They're gaining on us. Hold on.'

She pulls up sharply into a backward loop and shoots straight down towards the kelp.

Martin expects her to pull up again and level off,but she doesn't.

He shuts his eyes, thinking they're about to smash into the sea floor but with a swish and a slimy caress of kelp fronds, they shoot down and into the forest.

Then I understand.

The grass-like fronds are like the top of a dense, rainforest canopy.

Each clump is attached to a long stem, which is anchored to the sea bed several meters below.

Now they zip along among the strands, invisible to those pursuing them above.

In the meantime, the amulet grows hotter with every beat of his heart, until if it weren't for the fact it's submerged in cold water, Martin's fairly certain it would be sizzling against his skin.

It's pulsing vibrations increase as well, until it seems to fill the cavity of his chest and he can feel it buzzing in his bones.

Martin taps Anemone's arm, signaling that they must be very close but at the same time, something bursts down through the canopy of kelp overhead in a cloud of bubbles.

Natalis, flanked by two guards holding long, flat-bladed spears.

Anemone swears again and veers off to the left, darting through the kelp like a startled fish.

Martin pinches her and taps her arm.

'I know,' she says breathlessly. 'Natalis must be guarding the spot. She must have realized she doesn't have to catch us. She just has to stop us from reaching the statue in time.'

I make a sort of squeaking moan which I hope will translate to 'What do we do now?'

Somehow, she understands.

'Leave Natalis to me. And plug your ears. When I let go of you, swim straight down. The rest is up to you.'

Martin shakes his head.

Despite the super-powered pep-talk she gave him, oxygen deprivation is taking its toll and his mind is starting to cloud while his lungs burn.

'I'll be useless on his own.'

Anemone isn't having it.

'You can do this, Martin,' she says. 'I know you can. For Sky.'

Martin doesn't know if it's the power in her voice or the delusion of an oxygen-starved brain but he believes her.

'For Sky.'

Martin taps Anemone's arm again and nods signaling that he's ready and she gives a strange whoop, like a war-cry and does another brain churning loop and barrel roll, shooting back in the direction they'd come.

He spots Natalis through the kelp strands.

She spots them, too and points, shouting something to her guards.

'Earplugs, now,' Anemone hisses.

Martin stuffs his fingers in his ears.

Anemone drops him like a torpedo launched from the bottom of a submarine and he sinks fast on a downward slanting trajectory.

Before Natalis can react, Anemone pulls up short and releases the most hellishly terrifying sound Martin has ever heard.

Any fish in the vicinity that doesn't immediately die of a heart attack is going to be severely traumatized for the rest of it's life.

It's some sort of acoustic weapon and it works, at least on Natalis' guards.

They drop their spears and flee, leaving Natalis to face Anemone alone.

Natalis isn't easily distracted, however and turns her sight on Martin but Anemone isn't done.

With another hellish shriek, she accelerates again, her long tailfin whipping back and forth like the tail of a shark and crashes straight into her sister.

Much as he'd like to, Martin can't stick around to watch the fight.

He's got his own task to finish, one last thing, for Sky.

Unplugging his ears, he blinks and scan the dimly lit sea floor for any indication of a statue-like shape but it's all gray and featureless, drained of color to his surface-dweller's eyes.

The amulet is a steady guide, though and grows hotter as he descends, telling him, he's in the right place.

Something falls past his ear and Martin looks up to a sight that makes his heart thuds painfully in his chest.

He doesn't know how long he's been holding his breath at this point but Anemone's magic has about done all it can.

As has Anemone.

Natalis holds her by the throat and then she goes limp.

She releases her sister and turns blazing eyes on Martin.

'Oh shit.'

Something else whizzes past him and he turns to see one of the guard's spears embed itself in the sea floor, stirring up a cloud of silt.

It gives him an idea.

Kicking his legs furiously, he hugs the sea floor and stir up as much silt as he can, muddying water, like an octopus releasing a cloud of ink.

Then he kicks off the bottom and shoots to the side in the direction the amulet seems to be leading him.

Somehow, it works, at least for a moment.

Just as he clears the cloud of silt, he sees three tailfins disappear into it, giving him just enough time for one last look.

Martin finds it mostly by accident.

He swims right over it, in fact, a little canyon, about an arm's span wide and maybe ten feet deep, lit with a tell-tale glow.

He drops into it, his blurred vision revealing a narrow passageway and the entrance to small cave.

Praying that Natalis hasn't stationed some monster in here to eat him at the very end, Martin swims inside and then he sees her.

The queen, just as she appeared in replica and yet so much more majestic, somehow.

She sits upon her throne, one hand resting palm up as if to give or receive something, the other pressed over her heart.

Martin swims towards her.

Red and black blotches obscure his vision and there's a ringing, no... a singing in my ears.

The most beautiful music he's ever heard.

Forcing his cramping muscles to obey, Martin pulls the amulet over his head and place it over her's.

Something cold touches his side.

A spear embeds itself in the base of the throne.

Martin looks down and see blood spilling into the water.

The blade must have grazed him.

'Oh well. It's not like I can die more than I'm already dying.'

His vision clouds.

A rumble shakes the deep.

Something powerful stirs.

On the verge of oblivion, Martin looks up and see the amulet pulsing like a red heart.

Stone cracks.

Stone shatters but it falls away to reveal the beauty trapped beneath.

The queen awakens.

Strangely, in this last moment, Martin's vision is perfectly clear.

He sees long golden hair floating free and a face that resembles Skylar's powerful yet delicate fins, blue green scales and eyes like gems of the sea.

Martin smiles at her and she tilts her head to the side and reaches for him but he shuts his eyes.

'I've seen enough to give me peace.'

Then Martin Hunter opens his mouth, water fills his lungs with liquid fire and the darkness takes him.

COLLECTIVE REPENTANCE

Isaiah 59:9-13

Confession and repentance always proceed to change.

As individual repentance is vital to our souls so also is collective repentance vital to our community's change and progress.

Repentance is the realization that we've taken the wrong way in life. The way the Bible calls sin. Repentance is when we admit our sins and make a commitment, with God’s help, to change our life’s choices and directions.

Confession is important, as it allows us to own up to our wrongs.

It's very easy to ignore collective sin because no one would like to take responsibility for other's wrongs and shortcomings but from our text, we see Isaiah do so with the collective use of "we, us, and our". He didn't exempt himself from sins in the community, just as Daniel did in chapter 9, who saw the sin of the community as his sin.

We too must admit that there’s sin in the land and assume responsibility for confession and repentance according to 2 Chronicles 7:14.

Looking at our communities today, it would be impossible to overlook and ignore the systemic and collective sin going on, both culturally and socially.

So many are lost, with deep anxiety or dread, focusing on the human condition or the state of the world in general rather than on God, the only one with the answers and solutions.

Let's not even get into the absence of justice, love, compassion and unity ravaging our communities.

We need to repent, collectively repent of all these. Otherwise, as Jesus said in Luke 13:3 we will perish, too, unless we repent of our sins and turn to God.

Jesus taught that without repentance we face judgment.

When we gather in our communities, as Christians, we must be willing to collectively repent and lead others to confession and repentance to bring forgiveness and change.

Repentance is our only hope of receiving God’s mercy as seen in Isaiah 55:7.

Anyone who refuses to acknowledge and admit their sins can’t be forgiven, placing themselves outside of God’s mercy and blessing.

For the sake of "one" righteous person, Genesis 18:26 says God will spare the community. Abraham didn’t ask God to spare the wicked for their own sake but for the sake of the righteous who might be found among them. Only righteousness can make a plea before God through confession and repentance.

As gracious as God is, repentance is necessary for an ongoing relationship with Him as stated in 2 Chronicles 30:9.

Let us learn to turn away individually and collectively from anything that would prevent us from worshipping and obeying God wholeheartedly.

Everyone needs repentance because everyone has rebelled against God and sinned according to Romance 3:23 and cannot claim righteousness ( without sin) without confession and repentance, according to 1 John 1:8-9. Confession and repentance of sin is a mark of the person walking in the light of fellowship with God whether individually or collectively.

Prayer of confession, repentance and forgiveness releases

guilt or resentment present in the community.

A perfect example of collective confession and repentance is in the book of Jonah: “The Ninevites believed God. A fast was proclaimed, and all of them, from the greatest to the least, put on sackcloth. When Jonah’s warning reached the king of Nineveh, he rose from his throne, took off his royal robes, covered himself with sackcloth and sat down in the dust. If God forgave and showed mercy to a paganistic community when they acknowledged Him, confessed, repented and abandoned their sinful ways, He would do much more for us.

PRAYER: Father, forgiver of all sin and wrong, work in me and my community and instil in us the spirit of humble repentance in Jesus’s name. Amen.

9/11/2023 DAB Transcript

Isaiah 8:1-9:21, 2 Corinthians 12:1-10, Psalm 55:1-23, Proverbs 23:4-5

Today is the 11th day of September, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian and it is wonderful to be here today with you as we gather again, another day, another step forward. Another opportunity for God to speak to us through His word, another opportunity for us to listen. So, let's dive in. We have been getting ourselves moved into the book of Isaiah, and I guess we’re moved and we’re about little over 10% through the book it’s a longer book. So, let's move forward into Isaiah for today, and Isaiah for today will be chapters 8 and 9.

Commentary:

Oh man, this Psalm today, wow. Okay, so, we have some important things to look at. I’m gonna read a verse from our reading from the Psalms today, and I know that as I read this, thousands and thousands of people will immediately go, that is how I feel right now. And so, let me read this, “fear and trembling overwhelm me, and I can't stop shaking. Oh, that I had wings like a dove, then I would fly away and rest. I would fly far away to the quiet of the wilderness, how quickly I would escape, far from this wild storm.” Have you ever felt like that? Like I know what that feels like, those moments or situations in life that kind of accumulate and then they come on so suddenly and are so overwhelming that it is our desire to fly away, like that's the only thing we want to do is fly away to a place of peace and rest. And it's interesting because just a few lines later in this poem, we encounter one of the most famous passages of Scripture. Cast your cares on the Lord, give your burdens to the Lord. He will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall. So, here's the thing. There's this confessional outpouring of being overwhelmed and wanting to fly away, that we can probably all identify with and that many of us are walking through like at this very moment. And then this passage of comfort that comes just a few lines later, maybe where we go to, or maybe what we’re told, cast your cares on the Lord, He will take care of you, He will not let you fall or slip. That’s a famous passage that we go to, but there are interesting things about famous passages, because they're not like, it's not a magic spell. You saying that verse doesn't do it. Us listening to and obeying the instructions contained within the verse, do it. We may be overwhelmed and turning to a Scripture for comfort. But this Scripture tells us what to do when we’re overwhelmed. Cast, give, give over, release your burden, your care to the Lord. Just saying the verse, give your burdens to the Lord and He will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall, won't do it. Give your burdens to the Lord and He will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall. This is a collaboration. We are invited, as we always are with God into the dance of relationship. We can say this verse, all day long, but if we’re not willing to let go of the burden and cast it on the Lord then, then it's not gonna work. If we want to get to this part where we won't slip and fall and that God will be taking care of us, then we will have to give our burdens to the Lord and trust Him. Not for an hour to catch our breath, fully trust God, release our expectations, invite Him to show us the next step, allowing Him to take care of us. So, the verse at the beginning of the Psalms today talks about being overwhelmed and wanting to fly away to a place of rest. And then this verse tells us maybe how to access that place of rest without having to sprout wings. There's another poem in the Psalms that talks about the Lord sheltering us under his wings. Maybe we don't need wings to fly away and flee, maybe we need shelter under the wings of the one that will take our burdens and show us what to do.

Prayer:

And so, Father, this is like an everyday thing. Anxiety is blanketing humanity right now. We are all feeling the disarray, the unsettledness, that underneath it all, something's not right. And we know this is true and You have shown us that there is a different way to be a human being. We can collaborate in life with You as we were intended, and that there are a place for all of these human emotions that we feel because of the things that we encounter. There’s a place for this anxiety that lives as a ball in our gut. There’s a place for this pain-and-suffering and emotion that lives in our heart. You are that place and we can run to that place and cast, let go of, release these things to You, so that we are no longer carrying the burden alone. Come, Holy Spirit, show us how to do this, how to rest in it, how to live in it, how to accept it as a reality, how to allow You to lead us on the pathways of peace. We ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

And I wanted to offer a word for today, whoever you are, wherever you hear this, your word for today is to soar, S-O-A-R, soar. And I think I thought about it, or God dropped it into my spirit because so many of us are chained to our circumstances, our family issues, our problems, the things that keep us bond, if you will. And chained to, I don’t want to say the bottom, but certainly not soaring. And so, it’s a word for me too because I love the idea of looking up, being up, lifting up, holding up. All of those things are up. And so, we really want to live a life that is lifted up. And so, your word is soar. So, how will you soar. I don’t know. Maybe, some new colors, some new friends, maybe try a different dish, maybe you know, open a book or a different book. Just do something different, something that keeps you from being chained to the same ol, same ol. Give God a chance to move in your life and give the Holy Spirit a chance to interject something new. Topic: The First Martyr, Stephen: A Study of Martyrdom.

Rhema Word: John 11:25-26 (NKJV) “Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?”

Let’s pray. Our Gracious Loving Father, thank you for giving us an opportunity to meditate Your Word today along with your children who have been called to live a holy life Father. I commit everyone who are all meditating this message into your mighty hand Father. Bless them and give them the oneness of Spirit and make their heart as a good land to receive each and every Word which is living and active Lord. Thank You Holy Spirit for helping us to understand the in-depth treasure of Your Word and helping us to live a life as per Your Word Lord. We give all the Glory and Honour to You only Father. We pray in the mighty Name of Your beloved Son Jesus Christ. Amen.

In the beginning of Acts chapter 6 we see Stephen was one of those leaders chosen to help with the issue related to the care of widows. After Stephen is chosen to help make sure that the widows are cared for, Scripture says of him: ”And Stephen, full of grace and power, was performing great wonders and signs among the people. (Acts 6:8 NASB)”

Stephen was a layman, an extraordinary layman, a great servant of God. His name means a “crown”. The following are the facts about Stephen – the First Martyr:

He was full of Holy Spirit (Acts 6:3,5,10).

He was full of grace (Acts 6:8).

He was full of power (Acts 6:8).

He was full of wisdom (Acts 6:3, 10).

He was a man of great reputation or testimony (Acts 6:3).

He was of great works (Acts 6:8).

He was man of great defender of faith (Acts 6:10).

He was the first deacon of the church (Acts 6:5).

He was the first martyr of the church (Acts 7:59-60; 22:20).

Let us try to understand this vivid study of martyrdom, a study that should encourage believers to stand fast in persecution, no matter the cost, with the help of Holy Spirit, today:

1] The cause of martyrdom: Reaction against God (Acts 7:54)

2] The Lord’s provision (Acts 7:55-56)

3] The insanity of murdering the believer (Acts 7:57-58)

4] The believer’s supreme confidence (Acts 7:59)

5] The believer’s forgiving spirit (Acts 7:60)

6] The believer’s peaceful departure (Acts 7:60)

1] The cause of martyrdom: Reaction against God (Acts 7:54):

The Bible says in Acts 7:54 ”When they heard these things they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed at him with their teeth.”

There is the cause of martyrdom – reaction against God. Remember, Stephen was on trial for his life. He had been called upon to defend himself (Acts 7:1). But instead of actually defending himself, Stephen had preached about the tragic failure of the people to follow and obey God.

(a) Yes, he had shown how God called and founded the nation of Israel to seek and inhabit the “promised land”.

(b) Yes, he had shown Israel had rejected God’s call and the hope of the promised land, rejected it time and again all through their history.

(c ) Yes, he had shown how God delivered the nation time and again, trying to stir within the people an obedience to Him.

(d) Yes, he had made eight severe charges against the nation including the murder of the righteous One, God’s very own Son:

Charge 01: The people of Israel did not worship God, but worshipped false gods (Acts 7:42).

Charge 02: The people of Israel did not carry the tabernacle of God, but of false gods (Acts 7:43).

Charge 03: The people of Israel were inexcusable. Why? Because, they were greatly blessed. (Acts 7:44-47).

Charge 04: The people of Israel did not understand the temple – God is not limited to only one particular place. (Acts 7:48-50).

Charge 05: The people of the present generation of Israel were resisting the Holy Spirit. (Acts 7:51).

Charge 06: The people of Israel persecuted all the prophets – the very servants who predicted the coming of the Righteous One (the Messiah) (Acts 7:52).

Charge 07: The people of the present generation of Israel fulfilled the prophecies. Yes, they betrayed and murdered the Righteous One, God’s very own Son (Acts 7:52).

Charge 08: The people of the present generation of Israel have not kept the law (Acts 7:53).

Stephen’s message had been effective and convicting. It had done its job. Both the leaders and the people were convicted. The response was up to them. Conviction can go either way. It can either cause a person to turn to God, confessing his sin, or cause a person to react against God. Here, the Bible says in Acts 7:54 ”When they heard these things they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed at him with their teeth.”

Yes, the people were in a rage, filled with anger and malice, ready to do violence, ready to unleash the fury of their emotions. When the human heart rebels against God, it becomes disturbed and tormented. Rebellion against God causes the human heart to be (i) uncertain & insecure, (ii) disturbed & troubled, (iii) indignant & reactionary, (iv) passive & inactive, (v) withdrawn & lonely and (vi) purposeless & meaningless.

Here, just see the faithfulness of Stephen in bearing witness to the truth. His purpose was not to escape condemnation, not at any price. He, of course, was not wishing to die. But he was not willing to deny the truth in order to live. His desire was to proclaim the truth, hoping the leaders and people of his beloved nation would heed the call of God and be saved. What a dynamic challenge for bearing testimony in difficult situations!

That is why Peter and John said in Acts 4:19-20 “ But Peter and John answered and said to them, “Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you more than to God, you judge. For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.”

Remember, what Paul said in 2 Timothy 1:7-8 “ For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. Therefore, do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner, but share with me in the sufferings for the gospel according to the power of God.”

Peter also says in 1 Peter 3:15 “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defence to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear.”

2] The Lord’s provision (Acts 7:55-56):

The Bible says in Acts 7:55-56 “ But he, being full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God, and said, “Look! I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!”

God is always present when one of His children is facing a crisis, especially martyrdom. But note this: the person must be a true child of God, faithful and obedient to the Lord of glory. Stephen was so faithful and obedient to the Lord. He was doing exactly what Jesus had said to do, bearing testimony to the world. Therefore, Stephen had the promise of the Lord, ”And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:20) Yes, Jesus was there with Stephen, there in the most wonderful way. Note the marvellous provision of God to those who face martyrdom.

i) God filled Stephen with the Holy Spirit. Stephen was a man who was always filled with the Spirit (Acts 5:3,5), but the idea here would be a very special infilling of the Holy Spirit. He received a very special presence and manifestation of the Holy Spirit: a special consciousness; an awareness; a sense surrounding, engulfing, and embracing him; a presence carrying him through the great trial. He also received a very special power and grace to bear and go through whatever lay ahead.

ii) God gave Stephen a vision into heaven; enabling him to see into the other world, the spiritual world, or spiritual dimension of being. (a) Stephen saw the glory of God. He saw God in the brilliant light of His person, full of splendour and radiance. (b) Stephen saw Jesus standing at the right hand of God. Jesus is usually said to be sitting at the right hand of God, symbolizing His authority as man’s Lord and Intercessor (Matthew 26:64; Mark 16:19; Luke 20:42-43; Ephesians 1:20; Hebrews 10:12-13). But here He is seen standing. This symbolizes His overlooking the scene. His care for His dear follower and the joyful reception of His faithful servant.

Here we need to understand this: Imagine the glorious sight! There will be no difference between the vision of Stephen and the actual experience of God’s glory for any believer. We shall all behold every sight in Stephen’s vision and much more. Yes, in a moment’s time, in the twinkling of an eye, the genuine believer will pass from this life into the next world immediately, never tasting or experiencing death.

That is what Jesus said in John 5:24 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.” He further said John 8:51 “Most assuredly, I say to you, if anyone keeps My word he shall never see death.”

Jesus said in John 11:26 “And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?”

Apostle Paul while writing to Timothy says in 2 Timothy 4:18 “And the Lord will deliver me from every evil work and preserve me for His heavenly kingdom. To Him be glory forever and ever. Amen!” He also said while writing to Corinthians in 2 Corinthians 5:8 “We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.”

The author of Hebrews says in Hebrews 2:9-10 “But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honour, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone. For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.”

iii) God gave Stephen a glorious testimony. Seeing such a scene, Stephen just burst forth proclaiming the glorious vision he was experiencing. It was most likely a natural outburst of joy and ecstasy, a testimony of the truth of the other world to those standing around. Note this part of the truth: the Son of Man, Jesus, is there. He is at the right hand of God.

Stephen was proclaiming that Jesus is the Son of God. Yes, he was proclaiming that our faith in Jesus is not in vain. Yes, he was proclaiming that Jesus is exactly whom He claimed to be.

The Bible says in Mark 16:19 “After the Lord had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God.”

Apostle Paul while writing to Ephesians says in Ephesians 1:20-21 “Which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come.”

Paul further said while writing to Philippians in Philippians 2:9-11 “Therefore God also has highly exalted Him (Jesus) and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

That is what Apostle John says in his vision in Revelation 5:11-12 “Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne, the living creatures, and the elders; and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice: “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom, and strength and honour and glory and blessing!” Hallelujah!!

3] The insanity of murdering the believer (Acts 7:57-58):

The Bible says in Acts 7:57-58 “ Then they cried out with a loud voice, stopped their ears, and ran at him with one accord; and they cast him out of the city and stoned him. And the witnesses laid down their clothes at the feet of a young man named Saul.”

There was the insanity of murdering the believer. This is seen in two things:

(i) The insane rejection:

The persecutors were actually opposing a person who only wanted to help and minister to people and to offer the hope of living forever. The sole purpose of the believer is to minister to and meet the desperate conditions of man who is being lost, in hunger, suffering from disease, depression, loneliness, lifelessness, etc.

Whatever the predicament, the believer is called to minister. He is not out to destroy, but to build. It is utter insanity to oppose and kill such a person. For men to oppose a genuine believer, their behaviour has to reach a peak of insanity. Note what is involved here: ”yelling at the top of their voices” so as o drown out the truth, ”covering their ears” so as to keep from hearing the truth, ”rushing to him” so as to attack and take vengeance, ”dragging and stoning him” so as to get rid of the convicting message, allowing them to live as they desire instead of living for God.

(ii) The insane leadership:

A person who takes the lead in persecution is in rebellion against God. Those who follow such a leader are following a person who is actually reacting against the Lord, not against a believer. The man who took the lead in Stephen’s murder was Saul of Tarsus. He was kicking against the pricks, the conviction of conscience.

It is dangerous to follow man in rebellion against God. The path of rebellion leads to destruction. The man in rebellion shall perish. There is no exception.

That is why Jesus said in Matthew 23:33 “Serpents, brood of vipers! How can you escape the condemnation of hell?”

Apostle Paul while writing to Romans said in Romans 1:28-32 “And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.”

Paul further said in Romans 2:5 “But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God.”

While writing to Galatians, Paul said in Galatians 5:19-21 “Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.”

Apostle John while seeing the vision revealed in Revelation 21:8 “But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”

The Bible cautions about the fate of a stiff-necked person in Proverbs 29:1 “He who is often rebuked, and hardens his neck, will suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.”

4] The believer’s supreme confidence (Acts 7:59):

The Bible says in Acts 7:59 “And they stoned Stephen as he was calling on God and saying, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.”

The believer’s supreme confidence and hope is assurance of heaven. Here note four points:

(i) Stephen experienced the pain and suffering of the trial. This is seen in that he called for the Lord’s help. Believers are not removed or relieved from the sufferings of trials, but they are given the grace and strength to endure the trials, even martyrdom.

(ii) Stephen called upon the Lord Himself. It was the Lord Jesus who was standing, ready to receive him. Jesus wishes all believers to be with Him where He is (John 14:2-3; John 17:24). This is the very reason for which Jesus humiliated Himself in coming to earth, sacrificed His life in death and prays and longs for believers to join Him in heaven.

(iii) Stephen called for Jesus to receive his spirit. Stephen was still trusting the grace of God, the righteousness of Jesus, for his salvation. He was not trusting his own works and goodness. He was still depending upon Jesus and the wonderful love of God. Yes, Stephen had trusted and lived for Christ during life so he could expect to trust and live for Christ in eternity as well.

(iv) Stephen was going to be where Jesus was. He called for Jesus to receive his spirit, to accept him where He was. Remember, where Jesus is – Jesus is in heaven and He is at the right hand of God (verse 55). Yes, Stephen and all other believers are to be with Jesus right where He is, in heaven itself.

Jesus said in John 14:2-3 “ My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”

Jesus while praying for His disciples prays in John 17:24 “Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.”

Apostle Paul says in 1 Thessalonians 4:17 “ Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.”

5] The believer’s forgiving spirit (Acts 7:60)

There was the believer’s loving and forgiving spirit. Yes, Stephen’s last act was to kneel in prayer and to plead for his persecutors and murderers as recorded in Acts 7:60 “Then he knelt down and cried out with a loud voice, “Lord, do not charge them with this sin.” And when he had said this, he fell asleep.” Yes, he possessed the very sprit of Christ Himself, who had prayed the same prayer in Luke 23:34 “Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.”

Here, the words “do not charge them with this sin” means three things:

(i) Stephen was filled with compassion for his persecutors. He warmed them to be saved.

(ii) Men will be charged with sin.

(iii) Men must have the charge of sin removed from them to be acceptable before God.

6] The believer’s peaceful departure (Acts 7:60):

There was the believer’s peaceful departure. Scripture simply says, ”He fell asleep”. Yes, there is no death for the believer. Yes, Stephen simply passed from this life into the next world, an experience that amounts to nothing more than falling asleep. Sleep is often used to describe the “death” for the believer. Jesus said in John 11:12-13 “Then His disciples said, “Lord, if he sleeps he will get well.” However, Jesus spoke of his death, but they thought that He was speaking about taking rest in sleep.”

Jesus said to Martha in John 11:25-26 “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?”

Apostle Paul says in Philippians 1:21 “For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.”

While writing to Corinthians Paul says in 1 Corinthians 15:53-56 “For this corruptible must put on incorruptible, and this mortal must put on immortality. So, when this corruptible has put on incorruptible, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.” “O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?” The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law.”

Paul further said in 2 Corinthians 5:1 “For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.”

Here the lesson for us is: believers are to forgive men no matter what the offense may be.

Jesus said in Matthew 5:7,44 “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.”.. “But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you”.

Apostle Peter says in 1 Peter 3:9 “Don’t repay evil for evil. Don’t retaliate with insults when people insult you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God has called you to do, and He will grant you His blessing.”

Prophet Micah says in Micah 6:7-8 “Should we offer Him thousands of rams and ten thousand rivers of olive oil? Should we sacrifice our firstborn children to pay for our sins? No, O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.”

Yes, let us be ready and stand fast in persecution, no matter the cost, like Stephen.

Let us introspect ourselves.

Shall we preach the Word of God effectively so as to convict the congregation?

Whether our hearts still rebel against God?

Shall we remove our rebellion nature completely so as to allow God’s will is being manifested in our lives?

Shall we stand for the truth in order to live till the end like Stephen?

Shall we have the confidence and belief that our Lord Jesus Christ is always with us when we are facing crisis, especially martyrdom?

Shall we have the confidence and belief that in a moment’s time, we will pass from this life into the next world immediately, never tasting or experiencing death?

Shall we remove our stubbornness and unrepentant hearts today so as to pre-empt storing up wrath for the judgement day?

Shall we have the forgiving hearts to plead for persecutors and murderers as well like Stephen and our Lord Jesus Christ?

Let us Pray: Our Heavenly Gracious Father, we thank you for helping us to understand about the “The First Martyr, Stephen: A Study of Martyrdom” and introspecting ourselves today Father. Father, please help us to preach the Word of God effectively so as to convict the congregation, to remove our rebellion nature completely so as to allow God’s will is being manifested in our lives, please help us to stand for the truth in order to live till the end like Stephen, help us to have the confidence and belief that our Lord Jesus Christ is always with us when we are facing crisis, especially martyrdom, Father. Please help us to have the confidence and belief that in a moment’s time, we will pass from this life into the next world immediately, never tasting or experiencing death Father. Father, please remove our stubbornness and unrepentant hearts so as to pre-empt storing up wrath for the judgement day besides having the forgiving hearts to plead even for persecutors and murderers like Stephen and Your beloved Son Jesus Christ, Father. We give all praise, glory and honour to Your Holy Name. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
