#one of the reasons i love atla so much is
Text
with all of the criticism NATLA is receiving, i'd like to bring up another point that i feel like i haven't seen many people talking about, and i think this really contributes to the lack of overarching atmosphere NATLA has.
music.
i think a lot of people have already expressed the sentiment that this live-action adaptation really misses on a lot of characterization. katara seems bland and one-dimensional, aang is constantly stressed and anxious about the future every time he's on screen, sokka just doesn't quite have that quintessential sokka-ness we as a fandom know and love.
i'd argue that part of the reason that the show is lacking that characterization is first because of screentime. as a show with ~20 episode seasons, the original atla has TONS of filler episodes, but these filler episodes let us see different facets of the characters and ulitmately aid in seeing how characters behave when the overarching plot is not driving them at that very moment.
however, i believe that even with a shorter season that can't fit any filler, you can still capture those kinds of moments. instead, what i'd argue worsened this lack of characterization is a lack of those silly, twangy themes we all know and love from the original.
you know what i'm talking about? aang would make a joke and we'd have goofy melodic lines playing, or momo would appear and we'd hear this:
youtube
the original ATLA was so creative in using music to paint a picture- in serious moments, it matched the mood entirely, in quiet, peaceful ones it made you feel like you were right there, on appa's back with the rest of the gaang, and in silly ones, it gave a sense of heart and lightness to the show.
watching the live action, we just didn't get that same range of emotion, and i do believe this is in part because the music just missed so much.
despite my criticism above, i'm excited to see the show renewed. i truly hope that the writers take the critiques they've seen from the fan's responses and use those to write the show better. the actors really are being limited by the directing & writing, and once that limiting factor is resolved, i really hope to see the show recapture that heart and soul that is so present in the original:)<3

Gosh yes, your tags on that last post. Like, I don’t blame people for liking Viren, for enjoying his character, for finding him sympathetic (or attractive, even if I personally don’t). He’s a compellingly written character! But don’t be offended if people hate him or find him evil… he’s the villain, that’s literally his role in the story
"How dare this villainous character do villainous things" / "how dare the protagonist get narratively rewarded for making good choices" like do y'all even hear yourselves sometimes, y'know?
especially when - and i cannot stress this enough - tdp is for children and will ultimately have a happy ending. this isn't a grown up drama or tragedy or even a grimdark fantasy by any means. it's a hopepunk high fantasy story. people who further retaliation and violence and push people into inherently defensive positions are the 'bad guys'
like i love viren! i think he's very well written and interesting. he's a great examination of how we can lie to and martyr ourselves in a search for security that is also about status & wanting to feel special, about the harm done when trying to win a rigged system rather than solidarity in tearing a system down and making a new one. i appreciate his dry/deadpan sense of humour. he's also one of two primary antagonists in the first 3 seasons. and like, all that can coexist? it's multifaceted character writing? we all presumably passed grade 10 english class?
i also cannot emphasize the importance of being able to separate audience reaction or response from what a piece of art is actually doing or saying enough. "this story is bad because it was personally upsetting to me" without examples given or analyzed it is not well, analysis, it's just a currently very unfounded opinion. and sometimes stories are supposed to be personally upsetting, so like. you also gotta know your lanes
it's why subjective analysis is very useful but learning structural (objective) analysis is arguably more important. something can be structurally pretty weak but very enjoyable (frozen). something can be abysmal enjoyment wise but very structurally solid (1984, which i'd argue isn't meant to be enjoyed, either). and it's important to know the difference if you want to write actual analysis rather than opinion based stuff. analysis isn't necessarily better than opinion based pieces but analysis is more expansive because it can cover the subjectivity and the objectivity and more. which is precisely why i can read "the iliad" and think "wow that was good" but if i wanted to write an essay on it i'd have to do a lot more thinking because i'm demanding something greater of that artistic experience by virtue of wanting to expand on it
a lot of people take "art for art's sake" as a statement regarding the fact that art - which is inherently symbolic in its construction, even in what meaning we construe to words themselves - doesn't have to mean anything and fighting back claims that art should mean something. but i think of "art for art's sake" is more worthwhile to examine under the lens of "this art doesn't exist for the sake of capitalist consumption, but amid it, or sometimes precisely in spite of it" and like. very few things artistically have zero meaning precisely because meaning is also "what was the reasoning behind this" and if there is none (think a tattoo you got "just because") that's typically a subjective reflection of the creator and still indicative of their personality. sometimes the meaning is meaninglessness (nihilism is still a creation in response to us searching for meaning, after all)
i'm getting into the weeds now but the point is that there's definitely been an upswing in recent years of people thinking opinions = analysis and while that often is the case (particularly if that opinion is expanded upon enough to be grounded in the text and the text's context) it absolutely is not as often actual analysis as people think it is

girl help im thinking of a major oc rehaul again
#okay. pains me to consider this twice with the main group now. but im thinking of downsizing the mcs to just asha and valerie#NOT because im ignoring skylar thats actually why this is difficult to see if its a betterchoice bc i love their relationship w asha#and i do love them being taken in by atlas but like. im wondering if its necessary#and if itll serve asha's character better if she's aloof and cold bc they've been so isolated#and valerie is the one to bring her down from that. but then that feels weird when skylar is there#and skylar couldve had that effect on her yknow and its weird that they dont since theyre so close#like idk how to make that work without making asha come across as more unlikable than they should be#bc then the implication is ''skylar is really enthusiastic and always trying to get asha to try new things and she doesnt#but then val does that while showing her kindness so clearly skylar doesnt mean as much to asha''#skylar does get an arc regarding their relationship with asha but it also feels too similar to quinn's arc w atlas#and i was trying to make it a parallel but it feels less like that and more like retreadingground since im telling both stories#or i want to anyways#and like. skylar wouldn't be kicked out of the story they'd still appear and be a character!#a main character in fact! theyre extremely important to the plot they're arguably the heart of it#(which is another reason im so conflicted)#they may appear later in the story and join later? but then they feel kinda similar to valerie augh#also im soooo attached to skylar and asha being adopted siblings :( thats been a thing since like my very very first draft#my first doodles of these characters were them hanging out and being siblings#maybe ill try and figure out a best of both worlds scenario where they can keep beingsiblings#but asha spends a lot of time with valerie alone at first#echoed voice

I've been trying to buy a kalimba these past few days but i haven't found the right one yet
BUT
it made me think, what if sokka had bought a kalimba on one of his shopping trips? and the gaang would sometimes play tunes on it while flying on appa to pass the time and somehow they end up composing "Avatar's Love" and it ends up as their goodnight song that always gets played by whoever is on nightwatch
also toph sometimes bends it out of tune just to be annoying (it always ends up perfectly in tune around bedtime though. wouldn't want to miss sokka bangin out the tunes)

Here's the thing. I'm a girl, and as a girl, I really like it when girls are portrayed in fiction. Especially fantasy.
But so much fiction/fantasy mixes up 'girls' with 'unstoppable forces of female badass' and there's not necessarily anything wrong with having a character who is an 'unstoppable forces of female badass'. But it gets old real quick. And it is not the same as portraying normal girls, or having good female characters.
And that's one of the many reasons I love Avatar the Last Airbender.
Because all the girl characters have flaws and weaknesses and sometimes act like idiots or jerks. They get emotional and make mistakes. They lose fights or arguments or are just wrong sometimes. Some of them are amazing warriors, and some aren't. Some are powerful or special and some are normal, with nothing special about them.
And I Love that.
I was around the same age as Katara when I first watched Atla. And I instantly connected with her as a character. I loved her optimistic attitude and her fighting spirit. And I could relate with her anger, and with her maternal instinct. I admired her fighting skills of course, but I loved how the show portrayed her compassion and kindness, the way she could both beat up a bunch of bullies AND enjoy a relaxing day at the spa. She was a baddass warrior that should never be crossed. But she was also a normal teenage girl who had a lot of the same internal struggles and problems that I did.
(I never connected to Toph on the same level, but I did relate to her on a few things. She's an adorable trash gremlin who would commit any crime for fun and I love that. But she struggles with being both independent and letting people help her, and I still struggle with that sometimes. I've learned that sometimes, you can help others by letting them help you.)
Yue is, in my opinion, a perfect example of a type of hero that seems to be disappearing. She is not a warrior. She is not a fighter. She's not even a bender.
Yue is a perfect princess, a perfect daughter. She is extremely feminine in a rather older sense.
And she was the only one who could save the world. She gave up everything for her people. She saved everything, everyone, the entire world. Without ever becoming a fighter.
Yue is a perfect example of a girl who was never more than a girl, and how that's okay. Not every girl has to be rough and tumble and fight for her rights in order to change everything. Sometimes it's okay to just be a quiet obedient girly girl. Sometimes that's all it takes to be a hero.
And I love that. Yue is strong in her own way. She is unique and interesting. She appears in only a few episodes and yet manages to be one of my favorite characters.
Song is another great example of this. Song is a healer in a small town. We don't see much of her but we see her compassion and empathy. She is gentle and generous. A healer not a fighter.
She watches Zuko steal her ostrich horse and does nothing.
Is that because she's kind and generous and knows he needs it more? Or is it because she's a healer girl who knows she can't actually stop those two from taking the horse? Maybe neither, maybe both. I have always thought that the scene where Zuko steals the horse and only the audience knows she saw it is one of the most thought-provoking in the series.
Suki is a badass warrior woman who is an awesome fighter and good leader. She is one of the best non bender fighter we see in the entire show. She was one of the smartest, most efficient, and powerful characters we ever saw.
She kissed a boy she had just met because she thought he was cute.
Now don't get me wrong I love SokkaxSuki. Its one of the best couples in the show.
But Suki totally did the old 'love at first sight' thing. And that is awesome. Because when she kisses him she delivers one of the best lines, not only from her, but, I think, in the entire show.
"I AM a warrior, but I'm a girl too."
Being a warrior doesn't mean that she isn't also a teenage girl. She might be a fighter, but she still gets crushes and likes to flirt with cute boys. And hey, she picked a good one. Not every boy is going to come break you out of prison.
Anyways, let's have more realistic girls in fiction. And please enjoy the next 24 hours.

hi, can you be part two of yandere concubine harem
Yandere! Concubine Harem pt.2
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Warnings: Obsessive Behavior, Yandere Thoughts, Bad Writing, Stalking, Possessive Behavior, Reader is Referred as ‘You’
Tumblr media
Pt.1
God fucking damnit it happened again. Currently, you were standing in front of your father as he was lecturing you. The reason for this scolding? Well, it was due to the fact that yet another one of your concubines had passed away. You wanted nothing more than to just go to bed and take a fat nap right now. Like how was this even remotely your fault? Everyone knows that once someone joins your harem there’s like a seventy percent chance of them dying. Yet they still do it! Why were you being blamed for their stupidity?
“I can’t fucking believe you!!! How could you let another one of your concubines die!?!? How on Earth are we supposed to explain this to the family!?!?”
“I honestly don’t understand why you're putting so much of the blame on me. Everyone literally knows the dangers of entering this place. This is the twelfth concubine to die. Can anyone really be surprised? Most people already know the fatalities, yet they still send their children here in hopes of being married to me. If they're shocked, that's on them.”
“What– I honestly can’t deal with you right now. Just go away. I can already feel my blood pressure rise…”
Man what a drag. You’re gonna have to start planning another funeral again. What did she even die from anyways? Probably just by some poison, that seems to be what’s popular nowadays. You started to make your way towards your bedroom so that you could finally relax. When you were by your window outside you noticed that a figure was already in your room. Any normal person would see this and start freaking out but you had a suspicion that you knew who this was. Taking a closer look, your suspicions were deemed correct when you got a clear view of one of your male concubines there. Not only that but they were digging through your dirty laundry. Man this is seriously gross and did they just smell your underwear!!! Man he really needed to touch some grass. Yeah… maybe it wasn’t the best idea to bedroom anyways. Whatever, to the hot springs it is!
With that you started to call a maid over and order her to bring all your bath supplies. The hot springs were in a secluded part of the palace so hopefully no one was around there. With a quick walk you finally reached the area and you patiently waited for the maid to come over and hand you your things.
“Sorry for making you wait, your highness here are all your things. I’ll make sure to tell everyone not to come here so as to not bother you. Enjoy yourself and let me know if you need anything.”
“Thank you, I will.”
Stepping into the waters, you start to feel your body relax as that hot water begins to hit your body. You began to just sink yourself into it. You love how calming and peaceful this place was. This was soon interrupted when you saw the waters begin to ripple with movement. Rolling your eyes a bit you then look up at a figure. Low and behold it was another concubine. This time however, you remembered his name. You think his name was Atlas… probably but you were certain that he was the prince of a southern boarding nation.
“Your highness, what a coincidence running into you like this. Mind if I have the honors of joining you?” he said with a large smile.
Coincidence my ass but nevertheless you gave him a small nod. His face immediately began to light up as he made his way towards your side. He had the eagerness of a puppy and the speed of a cheetah.
“Your highness, let me rub your back for you!”
He began to rub his hands all over your body eager to not leave one spot untouched. You were honestly so dumbfounded by him but just let him do his thing. Something else that you noticed while he was doing all of this was the fact that he was packing! It took you all your willpower to not look down and just stare at it. You couldn’t help but think and ask yourself in your mind, “was it heavy?” Man you really need to get out of here before your mind turns into the gutter. You were seriously turning into one of your perverted concubines. Before you could say anything and make an excuse to leave he beat you to it.
“When we’re finished, let's go to my side of the palace where we can relax with each other.”
Feeling that you could use a change in scenery you agreed and began to get dressed. As the two of you made your way towards his courtyard you couldn’t help but notice how beautiful it was. The place was filled with flowers and many butterflies roamed the area. The both of you sat near a nearby bench and started to make conversation.
“I’m sorry for the lack of entertainment. If I had known that I would be meeting you I would have set something up. I do have some tea that I made this morning and it would be lovely if you could try it!”
With your hum of his approval he quickly made his way inside to go and fetch it. Something that you’ll never understand about your concubines is their constant need for approval from you. You could not imagine why one would be so desperate for praise from someone else. The thought of yourself being like that almost made you laugh. Your thoughts were quickly broken when you heard the sound of someone's footsteps.
“I’m back I hope I didn’t keep you waiting for long! Let me pour the tea for you!”
He swiftly grabbed the teapot and poured it into a teacup for you. Then presented you with some biscuits.
“I made this all for you! They probably don’t taste as good as they did this morning but they're still delicious!”
Taking the sip of the tea you noticed that it had a pleasant sugary taste to it. The cookies were also quite delicious. When you finished your snack the two of you continued to make small talk until you started to feel your vision begin to get blurry. You noticed that your body became hard to move and sluggish. God dammit you knew better than to accept food from anybody. Now look at where it got you!
“My love, it seems like the tea is starting to kick in but don’t worry I’ll make sure to take care of you.” he said with a lovesick expression.

Hi! I really want to hear your opinion about Agni Kai in Atla LA and why it's bad thematically. Thank you!
Hi! I've never been asked anything before!
Alright, so - spoilers. Also, sorry that this is so long.
In the original, Zuko does not fight back, and that's so important. It's clear that the Fire Nation has great respect for hierarchy, whether it be elders, leaders or superior officers. Ozai is the ultimate hierarchical superior to Zuko: his father, his superior as a royal, and - of course - the leader of the entire nation.
In the Agni Kai, Ozai repeatedly orders Zuko to fight for his honor, and Zuko refuses. He remains prostrate, and reaffirms his respect for his father. In the context of this hierarchical culture, he is doing everything right in the face of an order that, to him, is the ultimate paradox. And that's what earns him his scar. A disfiguring, dishonoring brand.
He gets burned because he wants so badly to do everything right. He gets burned because he wants to show respect. He gets burned because, in a cultural context, he is behaving as he should. Because his father is cruel.
But it's not just that: it also serves as a shorthand to the audience that the Fire Nation under Ozai and his forefathers is wrong, to the point that Zuko, the dutiful son, literally cannot do right under that system. And you don't need to do a deep dive into what the culture is presented as to get that - it immediately strikes the audience with a profound sense of unfairness. It efficiently communicates that the Fire Nation is rotten, that the system itself has become corrupted and distorted.
And this sets up Zuko's entire arc. He did right, and he got punished. At the end of S2, he does wrong, and he gets rewarded, but the reward isn't fulfilling to him, because everything he could ever earn under that system is tainted and his experiences outside the system have shown him that, even if he can't accept it at first. And it's so narratively satisfying to watch him then defy his father, who tries to punish him again with lightning, only for him to now be able to literally turn it back (with Iroh's technique, Iroh being one of the few sources of unconditional love in his life!). He then redefines his relationship with Firebending itself, going back to the original source of it. He literally rids himself of the corruption of his nation.
It forms such a tight narrative arc, and it sets up so much about the Fire Nation with no need for explanation. Even his interactions with Iroh also tske on a new light: he's intentionally disrespecting his uncle - another elder and superior, as well as a father figure - and Iroh never punishes him for it. Ultimately, that unconditional love and support leads him to reform his nation.
In the Live Action, Ozai orders him to fight back, and he does. He even has a chance to strike Ozai, but doesn't, prompting Ozai to remark that "compassion is a weakness" before he burns Zuko. Which was never the point of Zuko's arc. It waters down his entire primary character conflict, because if his takeaway is that he lost a fight because he was too kind, then the only thing that needs to happen is for him to get some kind of narrative payoff by being kind. Wow, arc over. It becomes this surface level morality tale about how compassion isn't weakness.
In the LA, he also gets multiple chances to speak out at the war meeting. He questions the plan, the general and Ozai lay out actual, sensible reasons for why the plan has to proceed as it is, and then Zuko says that it's a terrible plan anyways. In the original, he speaks out once, and his words even make it clear that he's speaking out because the soldiers "love and defend our nation." His objection is the mildest possible form of objection: he isn't questioning the system, in fact, he's reinforcing it by appealing to the virtue of these soldiers. And he still gets punished.
With all that and Iroh explicitly calling out Ozai multiple times in the LA, we don't get the sense that the Fire Nation culture itself has been warped by imperialism. We just get the sense that the leader is a bad dude. And that's a far less powerful setup, and it will lead to a far less satisfying resolution.
It's an incredibly watered down version of the original, and lacks so much thematic weight.

My life is falling apart - could you write how Ghost might save reader from her emotionally abusive and toxic husband? I thank you, maybe one day I'll have someone like Simon.
Whoever you are, I'm here for you if you need to talk. Stay strong sweetheart, this too shall pass. 💖
CW: Emotional abuse, toxic relationships, hurt/comfort, protective Simon Riley.
Tumblr media
Simon had sneaked his way into your life with the same stealth he uses on missions— a man who barely spent any time at his apartment and was always away for what he said was just ''work''. The same man who after a few conversations, started bringing you small gifts from his missions, always something different that he thought you'd like.
Simon isn't dumb— far from it, he's always aware of his surroundings and throughout the years, he knows how to read people well. That's why it breaks him to see the way your smiles now came accompanied with a nervous look in your eyes whenever your husband was home, despite you and Simon simply being friendly towards one another.
Whenever he was back at his apartment, he started listening more and more. Paying even more attention to you, ear pressed against the wall while he listened to your husband berate you for a plethora of reasons, all of them more absurd than the other, the truth heavy on his shoulders, weighting him down like Atlas holding the sky.
Oh, how he wanted nothing more than to go inside your house and ravage your husband the same way he does so casually in the battlefield— but he can't. Simon Riley is not Ghost. Simon has to lay low, to ensure both his safety and yours, so he starts planning. Planning how to approach the issue, how to get you out of the situation and understand you better. He'd never admit it, but he spent the entire night reading the experiences of other married women when it comes to abusive marriages, restless dreams full of ideas on how in the bloody hell he'll get you out of this.
He waits until the next day once your husband leaves for work, waiting out five minutes that feel eternal just to make sure he doesn't come back. Unmasked and with very faint stains of eye black that he never seems to be able to fully remove, he knocks on your door. You answer with teary eyes, sniffling softly as you try your best to give him a small smile, yet he can see the pain. The same pain he saw in his mother's eyes his entire life.
''Simon!'' You greet, moving aside so he can enter your house, closing the door behind you as you both go to the living room.
''Would you like a cuppa?'' You offer and it takes him a few seconds to decide, ultimately nodding his head. Maybe this will be easier if you're both having a nice, warm drink. You come back minutes later with a tray and some crumpets, something you started buying when he casually mentioned liking them.
''Thank you.'' He takes a sip of the perfectly made chamomile tea, done the way he loves it— with two teaspoons of honey and hot. You give him a happier smile, the warmth of his presence wrapping around you like a secure blanket, a far cry from your marriage.
''Love...'' He begins and your full attention goes to him, noticing his serious tone and pensive expression.
''There's no easy way to say this, but with this place having thin walls, I sometimes hear things I shouldn't.'' You immediately know what he's talking about, but before you can apologize on behalf of your husband, he keeps speaking.
''You deserve so much better.'' He puts his cup down, eyes looking down to his hands— the hands he keeps ungloved just for you, the hands that are protected by his skull gloves whenever he's out in missions, so he can come back to you free of sin. He sits down next to you, one of his arms wrapping around your back reassuringly.
''Why are you still with him?'' There's a hint of desperation in his tone, thin eyebrows furrowed as he looks at you. You want to look away, but his brown eyes are almost hypnotic. So expressive, so telling whenever words aren't enough.
''I... I don't know.'' You reply with honesty, tone strained as you hold back tears and try to dig into your brain for any reasons you're with the man, yet nothing comes up. ''I don't have anywhere else to go to.''
Your words hurt him as much as they hurt you, looking at the potential you have that is being wasted on some ungrateful wanker who berates you for the smallest things.
''Run away with me.'' He suggests in a spur of the moment and before he can even process his own words, a small giggle escapes your lips. He raises an eyebrow as he looks down at you, curious as to what's so funny. Your giggling stops when you notice the expression on his face.
''You're serious?'' You ask carefully, not wanting to make a fool of yourself despite knowing he'd never joke about something like that.
''I'm serious, love. We could go somewhere far away from here, safe. You can leave all of this behind, just say the word.''
''I...'' He can see your hesitancy, his warm hand rubbing circles on your back while the other one holds your hand, thumb rubbing the back of your hand reassuringly.
''What if he finds me?'' It's the first question that comes to mind, not wanting to deal with more of his abuse if you ever manage to get away.
''He won't, doll. I can promise you that. I'll get some of my mates to watch out for you when I'm busy at work, if it helps you.'' He knows it will, and he already has highly trusted friends from the 141 in mind to watch out for you whenever he goes on solo missions.
It took almost two hours of convincing before you agreed, and that's where you are now. He's helping you inform the police about your situation and why you're going away, just in case your husband tries to report you missing.
Most of your belongings were left at the house, but... it surprisingly doesn't bother you. It'll be a new beginning, the same furniture that has witnessed years of abuse is now left behind, only a few clothes inside his car while you both leave the police station. You take a deep breath, the warmth of the sun washing over your skin as you close your eyes, a sincere smile on your face for the first time in years.
''Thank you, Simon.'' My angel, my savior.

Gojo/Fem Reader SFW & NSFW Headcannons
Warnings; cursing, kissing, blowjobs, vaginal fingering, vaginal sex, dirty talk, bit of brat tamer Gojo
Note; I love Gojo so fucking much….enough said
Tumblr media
Satoru who is quite possibly the prettiest—no, the most ethereal man you’ve ever laid eyes on. You feel it’s comparable to looking at the biblically accurate form of an Angel—eyes getting burned out of your skull from the sheer intensity of it and all that
Satoru who knows how breathtaking, how feminine he is, who feels the exact same way about you (you giggle every time he says it was an earth shattering moment for him the first time he was bewitched by you— he’s such a drama queen)
Satoru who is so motherfucking tall it drives you insane (it pisses you off how hot you find it🫠), who has long slender fingers that almost envelope your entire hand when he laces his pale, dainty digits through yours so, so sweetly
Satoru who likes to accentuate his hands by wearing pretty black rings (the cool metal always makes you shiver when he absently rests his hand on the back of your neck, gently guiding you places—it makes you weak in the knees)
Satoru who has literal tons of admirers—girls & guys alike, who couldn’t give less of a fuck, paying them no mind, whose eyes are always seeking you out wherever the two of you are, ignoring all the stares and looks of longing he receives, who gravitates towards you like the beckon of a siren call
Satoru who tells you the cheesiest, most cliche, tooth-rottingly sweet pick up lines that you’ve ever had the misfortune of hearing (but God—if it doesn’t give you butterflies every time, making you fall more & more in love with him)
Satoru who gets the biggest thrill out of playful flirting with you, who makes it his mission to get under your skin whenever he can—he just thinks the way your eyebrows scrunch & the curl of your lip is so fucking cute, even if you do want to punch him in the throat
Satoru who was immediately obsessed with you, absolutely enamored watching you teach his students, you kind of just fill in when you’re needed, mainly going on missions—but once you start teaching to help Yaga & meet Satoru? Yeah you’re mysteriously requested to be in his classroom more than half the week—he denies everything when you ask him about it later on
Satoru who absolutely clings to you like a koala in bed, long limbs entangled with yours—it makes you wake up sticky with sweat & panting, not in the good way (but you do love cuddling with him)
Satoru who brings you to all the random little sweet stands or shops he finds when he’s sent away on missions—of course he brings back little trinkets or things he knows you’ll love back with him
Satoru who is hard to read at first but who ends up opening up to you, blossoming beautifully like a flower in the spring, Satoru who’s just a different version of Atlas, carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders
Satoru who is nothing short of petrifying when he’s truly furious, who is 100% unhinged, whose eyes glow bright blue as he massacres anything that stands in his way, who gives you chills watching him— you’d never wanna be on the opposing side of Satoru during a fight, who is the strongest sorcerer for a reason—you’ve seen it
Satoru who is definitely an asshat, who is annoying, who texts you at 2 am for a booty call (you’re already in a committed relationship, you were in the living room when you got his text, he literally said the words booty call— you swing open the door to the bedroom about to ask what the fuck is wrong with his head, but he’s already naked, you’re ashamed to say you gave in)
Satoru who learns he loves to bake with you, who loves making cupcakes more than anything, he makes you some for your birthday—he was so excited, it was unbearably adorable, who was practically vibrating as he watched you try one—you almost moaned, they were amazing
Satoru who you’re unconditionally in love with, who wants to marry you someday, who becomes the best daddy to your little ones, who is your other half & who you share the deepest, richest love with—who is the best thing you’ve ever experienced
💙NFSW BELOW💙
Satoru who has to admit that he has a thing for bratty girls, for girls who aren’t afraid to be bitchy towards him, who are mean to him & don’t put up with his bullshit—who put them in his place so to speak
Satoru whose cock starts to fill out hot & heavy against his inner thigh when you come into his classroom to bitch at him about stealing your bento box (secretly you know he loves it, he always watches you as if he’s going to devour you whenever you do come in to yell at him)
Satoru who eagerly makes out with you in his classroom, twisting your tongues together, who loves when his limbs thrum with the sweet, low heat of lust when he thinks about you two getting caught (he may have a bit of an exhibitionist kink, shoving his hand down your pants to play with your clit for as long as you’ll let him get away with)
Satoru who grips your hand, sending you two straight back to his home once you’re fed up enough with him trying to fuck you public, laying you out on his bed listening to you snarl at him— honestly Satoru you’re such a fucking dumbass— who hums in agreement and bites kisses into your collarbone & neck until your bitching turns into pretty whines
Satoru who has a smug look on his face as you lay pliant under him, who twists your nipples and bites at your tits while you moan his name and weave your fingers through his soft, white hair—pulling harshly
Satoru who rubs tight circles into your clit with his thumb until your orgasm starts to burn in your lower belly up to your chest, who pulls away as you get close just to hear your voice get bratty and bite out his name—Satoru what the fuck is wrong with you— who cuts off your complaining, slipping his middle two fingers into your slick pussy as an apology, thumbing at your clit & working you over until you cum for him
Satoru who feels like he’s on cloud 9 when you roll him onto his back, whose cock twitches violently when he gazes up at your face, your pretty mouth curling into a snarl as you hover over him, whose head gets fuzzy as you eagerly suck on his cock, swallowing him over & over until his cock glistens with your saliva—dick so hot & full, flushed a rosy pink
Satoru who pulls you off his cock and flips you onto your back, who splays his hand out in the valley between your tits, trying to damn near shove you through the mattress as he watches his thick cock spread your pussy to the max, who tilts his head, wolfish grin on his face as he listens to you whine when he starts to rock his hips
Satoru who calls you his fussy little brat when you start to writhe & whine underneath him as he starts a slow, teasing rock of his hips—just to be an asshole, who’s so goddamn condescending when he bites his lower lip before asking where’s that shitty attitude you had earlier hmm? Not so big & bad now are ya? Needy little brat
Satoru who feels like he’s burning alive as he watches your tits bounce with each thrust, who throws one of your legs over his shoulder and folds you in half, who throws his weight into his thrusts—bullying the perfect spot inside your pussy, who makes you cum on his cock like that at least three times
Satoru who lets his fingers wrap around your throat like a necklace, who squeezes gently on the sides—just enough to make your head feel syrupy as he fucks you, who watches your eyes roll back, who feels your back arch into his thrusts saying fuck yes, that’s right baby girl, ya just needed me to fuck that shitty attitude outta ya huh? Make you cum on my cock a few times until your all pretty & pliant
Satoru who feels your pussy start to flutter for the fourth time, who quickly releases your neck listening to your gasping inhale, who rubs his thumb in quick circles on your swollen clit as you start to cum, who makes you wail his name as he makes you squirt all over his lower belly—fucking you through your orgasm completely
Satoru who can’t fucking take the way your warm, silky pussy sucks his cock in like a vice, who presses his forehead against yours as his cock kicks inside your pussy repeatedly, who murmurs against your lips m’gonna fill up your bratty little pussy, now that you’re so obedient, who swallows your moans as he buries his cock inside you until his balls are snug against your ass—cumming inside you & letting out a sweet whimper of his own
Satoru who pulls out slowly, who lets you go limp & melt into the mattress, who cleans you both & lets you nuzzle into his chest—almost purring like you’re his pretty kitty, who loves the aftermath of sex with you when you cling to him, so sweet & soft, who loves that he gets to tame the brat in you over & over again

YOUR MEDIC!READER X JET HAS BREATHED LIFE INTO ME. MAKE THEM HOLD HANDS. I BEG. THE PINING IS INSANE. The atla jet fandom is DRY so you're doing god's work out here 😭 😭 (Or anything tbh! I'm absolutely in love with your writing 😭❤️)

🌾 ・ HAND IN LOVING HAND
summ. Jet comes into a dawning realisation. It starts with a mission gone wrong. pairing. Jet x f!medic!reader w.count. 0.7k ( just a blurb! ) a/n. Ask and you shall receive! I’m so glad you love medic!reader as much as I do!
Tumblr media
He figures, later, that it might have started with Operation: Creeping Cricket.
Courtesy to Smellerbee for the unique mission name, ofcourse.
That had involved, to date: A handful of Freedom Fighters itching for a fight, an imprisoned pair of orphan twins they’d planned to break out, a couple of dumb Fire Nation spies, and the leaky walls they called the borders of Omashu.
Except, ofcourse, it wouldn’t be a mission without a series of unfortunate events, of which occurred: a storm that changed Sneers’ accurately-predicted course of said Fire Nation spies, which meant their little hostages that they’d come to rescue would be headed down a different path, which also meant their traps lining on the trail towards the borders of Omashu— that The Duke had spent a frustratingly long amount of time setting up— would be rendered useless.
They settled on a brute force ambush instead, much to your disdain; you were, after all, a better healer than you were a fighter.
“This was a terrible—!” You pause to dodge a burst of white hot flames from a Fire Nation soldier. The rain is quick to dampen their efforts, luckily for you. “This was a terrible plan, Jet!”
He strains to hear you underneath the torrent. “Don’t blame me, Pipsqueak started it! Duck!”
You duck. Another spy crumples behind you, thanks to the swing of Jet’s tiger blades, and as the soldier lands on the ground— that’s when you notice it; the quaking rumble of earth, the jumping of stones.
Earth Kingdom Guards have caught wind.
In the distance, Longshot produces a birdcall from high above— shrill and piercing, one that’s rarely ever been used amongst the rebellion— a warning. Retreat. The Freedom Fighters are outnumbered. Scatter.
The ground erupts beneath you, and you scream. You practically sweep Jet off his feet as you snatch his hand and take off to higher ground to avoid the rising tempest. Hot on your heels, both of you can feel the snap and crackle of roots tearing deep underneath as the kingdom guards begin their manhunt.
“Quick!” you urge, as he trips over his footing. You glance at him over your shoulder, giving him a squeeze in your intertwined fingers as you check, “Hey, you hurt?”
“I— uh, no,” he stumbles, for some reason. Nothing but superficial cuts and bruises, anyway. He’ll live. “Yeah, I’m fine.”
It could’ve been minutes or an hour of just running, he isn’t quite sure— he’s too busy noting how your hands fit awfully perfect against his, and how despite the rain and muck, you still managed to look... collected. (Collected, he thinks, because he refused to admit anything unforgivably romantic.) Jet lets himself be led across the maze of woodland and grass, and catches himself wondering whether the hand holding had been a conscious move at all.
At the time, he’d decided it didn’t matter.
It shouldn’t, Jet had reasoned to himself, as you tugged him underneath an overhang and into a hidden crevice. Beyond the roguish charm and borderline flirtatious jokes he liked to play at— both of you were, at the end of the day, amidst an unending war. You were the Rebellions’ resident medic, and he was their token leader. There was no time to entertain fairytales and pipedreams.
“I think we lost them,” you pant, peeking over. “Do you think the others are okay?”
Jet looks at you, fights back the urge to tuck the rain-wet strands of your hair behind your ear so he can see your face better; how the light hits your profile and sets your eyes alight, down to the tip of your nose, and to your mud-stained cheeks. Collected. Capable, he reminds himself. Not pretty. Not pretty. Not—
“What’s wrong?” you ask, when you’d caught his gaze. “Jet?”
“Ah. Uh, nothing,” he blinks away— too fast; too quick to hide the obvious lie. “The others can handle themselves. Let’s, let’s wait for the storm to pass.”
This is simply camaraderie, he’d convinced himself, and stifled down the barb of disappointment that crept in him when you were the first to finally let go.
Right?

the burning inside azula’s chest was worse than any flame.
Her eyes traced along your swaying body as you moved in sync with Ty lee, dancing to the music blasting loudly from the speakers of Chen’s party.
Azula could only lean on the wooden pole, crossing her arms and biting her lip so hard she could recognize metallic taste of blood flowing to her mouth. The princess felt uncharacteristically helpless, as she watched you spend your time dancing with ty lee- unaware of the many desperate eyes that linger on your form in such a disgusting manner.
If azula could have a moment alone with all the people who dare to look at you, she would be the only one walking away breathing.
the fire princess took pity on most people— but, right now, as she helplessly stared you from across the room, for once in her life— her pity was reflected to herself.
azula was the princess of the fire nation, she had royal blood, she was a firebending prodigy and the heir to the royal throne— but here she was, helplessly in love with a woman from the earth kingdom Omashu.
she felt so pathetic. where was her pride? her grace? her honor? she couldn’t even bare to think about what she’s become. So weak under your touch, under your gaze.
goodness, were you a spirit? an evil being meant to take the power from inside the princess heart and convert it into this.. softness? this fondness she holds so close to her heart, the fondness she only holds for you.
the most beautiful woman azula has ever known.
her hopelessness molded into rage— rage at those who dare thing they can look at you like you are an object, rage to those who dare think anything of you, rage at herself, rage at her heart.
Azula let out an irritated sigh as she pushed herself off the wooden beam, sparing you one last glance before she stomped up the stairs to get away from the party as fast possible, a sad action in hopes to rest her churning nerves.
but unbeknownst to the princess, you’d been keeping your eye on azula all night, knowing she was not one for parties. In all honesty, you’d wanted to spend the evening with her— but ty lee had insisted you go with her and dance, to have some fun. you tried to protest but felt for your friend, telling azula you would be away for just a little while.
You noticed how she was looking at you, and how her eyes always danced along the many other figures in the room. you frowned when you saw her stomp off, leaving nothing but a trail of smoke in her wake.
you turned to Ty Lee, excusing yourself and saying you’d come back— not completely sure if that was true or not.
you followed in azula’s footsteps, up the stairs and into an empty room. You quietly opened the door, closing it behind you and catching sight of the princess standing outside the balcony attached to the bedroom. You approached her, carefully.
“why did you leave?” your sudden question didn’t seem to phase her, as she knew you were the one who entered the room. you were the only one who truly cared.
azula took a moment to respond, her hands gripping the metal railing so tight you thought you might begin to see red from the burn she would leave.
“no reason.” her tone was meant to be harsh and degrading, but it came out a hushed whisper, almost like a plea for you to care.
your frown only grew, daring to step forward and stand beside her. you stood so close you felt her warmth, her heat always radiated off of her so perfectly.
“azula,” you placed a hand on her bicep carefully , feeling her warmth. she shuttered under your touch, looking away from your gazing eyes. “you can tell me.”
your voice was so soft, a melody unlike any kind azula has heard before. it was soothing, the only voice in the world who could calm her racing mind, the only voice who could calm her aching heart.
azula opened her mouth, but no words came out. She was helpless under your touch, under your gaze.
the idea of you being so close had her heart reaching through her chest, trying to reach you.
Princess Azula recalls the day she realized she was head over heels, so deep in love with you she felt like she was in a ditch she could only dream of climbing out of- you two were about eight or nine, a sunny day at the royal castle.
azula watched as Zuko showed Mai some flowers, azula overhead him blabbing on about how important they were.
“these flowers are actually very special, my mom loves botany so she told me a lot of things about it.” zuko held a white dragon lily in his palm, showing it to mai as she looked up at him with red blush coating her usually pale face.
Ty lee wasn’t there that day, but luckily for azula— you were. You sat beside her, humming a very low tune and weaving some flower crowns from some flowers you’d brought from your own mother’s garden. Azula continued to keep her eyes on Mai and Zuko, a mischievous smile embracing her lips.
azula turned to you, “hey, y/n, wanna play a funny game?” the princess questions you, taking your attention from the flowers in your hands. “sure!” you smiled. you followed azula as she stood up, turning towards you.
“okay so, here’s how it goes: i’ll act as zuko while you act as mai. got it?” she pointed at you as she spoke, a constant smile on your face, and even a laugh at her idea.
“hehe, okay! let’s do it!” you smile widely, giggling softly.
you turned away as did azula, placing a dramatic hand to your forehead she held her hand out in means to show the distance between you both.
“I’m sorry, Mai, but we can’t stay together. i’m a big boy now and mom said i shouldn’t date such young girls.” Azula’s voice was spoken in mockery of her brother, causing you to hold back a little giggle.
“Oh, zuko!” you expressed dramatically in reply to azula, “my beloved, why are you doing this to me?”
“i love you!” you expressed, turing to jump on azula dramatically, wrapping your arms around her neck as she held her hands out in either side of you. “don’t you get it? i can’t go on without you, zuko!” you really played the part, azula replied; “well, if you love me that much, i guess it can’t be helped!” she put on arm on your upper waist when mai and zuko turned to you both with strawberry red faces.
“Hey!” zuko shouted, “I’m not like that! stop it, Azula!” he embarrassingly expressed, mai behind him with flustered tears in her eyes. “ugh! you guys are the worst!” Mai fumes, watching zuko stomp off. “Puah! enough of this!” he huffed angrily, leaving the scene with a red face.
“Bye Bye, zuzu!” azula laughed, your cheek still pressed against hers with her hand on you as you laughed, watching zuko walk off.
“What a dumb-dumb.” she said once he left, a smile evident on her face. silence followed for a moment with you in her arms before she turned her head to you, realizing how close you were- her face blew aflame, much alike to her brothers.
“let’s keep playing, i love this game!” you said happily, turning to face azula, your face only inches apart, eyes locking as she stare at you with a flustered expression— just before you felt a rough shove in your abdomen.
you gasped as she pushed you to the floor, being poked by a tree root on your back your eyes teared up. you missed the very, very red face of the princess when she instinctively shoved you off, as she had covered her flustered mess of a face with a boisterous voice. “hahahaha!” azula laughed obnoxiously, “you always fall so easily!” she pointed out, hand on her stomach to control her everlasting laughter.
you stood up, her hands moving to cross over themselves as you walked over, an upset expression on your face as tears welled in your once shining eyes. “that’s not funny azula! you hurt me!” your voice broke, wiping a tear as you ran off. “I hate you when you act like this! I don’t wanna play with you anymore!”
Azula watched you run off with tears in your eyes, huffing air and leaving the garden. She was left alone, the heat of her cheeks at your proximity still felt warm.
“fine, i don’t care about you anyway.” she whispered to herself, knowing it was a lie. In all honesty, she felt horrible, she instantly regretted her decision to push you— not meaning to hurt you what so ever.
your words were like stones in her heart, and it was only when she went to her room and sat on her bed, she realized how much she really did care. she cared about you more than anything in the world, so much the word love indented into her mind for years to come.
azula stared down at the beach, the bitter taste of her decision still lingering in her mouth even all these years later.
you knew she regretted that, but to you it was just the silly memories of your childhood, and you knew she didn’t mean it.
She never meant to hurt you.
you brushed a stray strand of hair from her face, tucking it gently behind her ears and let your hand linger for a few moments. it was times like these your feelings were the strongest, isolated moments between you both where your hearts fought your mind in a civil war, hoping to catch a glimpse of each other before being locked away for eternity.
the look in azula’s eye was unfamiliar, something you could only pray to understand. You wished with all your heart that she one day would truly understand how much you care for her— not only as a friend, but as someone you love, with every fiber of your being.
“Azula..” you whispered softly when she pulled away from your lingering touch; yet still allowing your hand to rest upon her bicep.
it was difficult to communicate with her sometimes, when she felt so isolated and alone from the world, and no matter how hard you tried, how much you fought— you couldn’t get it through to her that you were there for her. that you loved her.
you allowed silence to follow after the previous call of her name left your lips. She was shaking, and you couldn’t tell if it was from anger, or from the cold of the night.
or perhaps, something else entirely.
while you struggled with hoping azula could understand your feelings, azula suffered with the scorching feeling burning the inside of her body. The intense warmth that devoured her skin and insides with aching pain, a yearning unlike any kind.
it was painful, to watch you and see you, and not be able to take you. To claim you as hers, to kiss you and hold you and show you just how much she loves you.
it burnt worse than any possible heat, any possible flame— it was an eternal pain, a scorching sensation that only you could ease, and a scorching sensation that only you could cause.
Azula couldn’t take it— she wanted to scream, to yell and burn down everything in her sight— to kill and destroy anyone and anything— except you. she wanted to protect you, to show you her love in an intimate way, a way she could only wonder of.
Azula was haunted by the dreams that followed her in her sleep.
Dreams of you and her, alone, holding one another in a way that was sorely for those who meant to be more than friends. It was what she hoped to happen one day, but the thought of rejection made her nauseous, so sick she couldn’t breathe.
it gnawed at her flesh like an infectious disease, chewing away her pride and honor.
but, the feelings inside her were stronger. she turned to you, shyly and afraid, she watched your face with desperate eyes.
“Azula, i… don’t know what is bothering you,” the sound of your voice was something she could bask in for hours, a sound she could listen to for the rest of eternity. “and i want you to know that no matter what,” you hesitantly rose a hand to her cheek, and azula fought the urge to sink into your touch. “i’ll always be here for you.” you voice followed with a confident tone, telling her that you said the truth and nothing but, and swore that no matter, you’d be here.
Azula couldn’t take it.
She inhaled through her teeth, the burning of her skin eating her alive as she locked her eyes with yours, those beautiful, warm, loving eyes she had made her home.
“it..” her words faded off; her fear burning her throat as she tried to speak, but was at a loss for words. You listened, waiting patiently.
“It hurts me,” she whispered, swallowing harshly. “How much I ache for you.”
azula’s words blew you away, shocking you to your core. Your face must have been as surprised as you felt, as azula turned away with reddened cheeks.
you felt like.. laughing. like laughing of pure joy. Happiness flooded you like a tsunami floods a city, your surprised face quickly becomes one of pure, luscious happiness.
Azula misses the exchange of expressions, thinking that was it. that was you showing your rejection. she might as well be banished, just like her brother.
But the call of her name caught her thoughts, and as she hastily turned to you, her eyes blew wide. The expression on your face was the most happy she’d ever seen. It mirrored the pure joy that she could only remember being in her childhood, in the moments she spent with you.
She felt her voice leave her body, her heart pounding so hard against her chest she was sure you could hear.
did you.. feel the same?
her question was answered by the feeling of your soft, warm lips embracing her own. the princesses eyes became somehow even more wide, her hands losing their grip on the railing shock.
but soon she wasted no time in kissing you back, absolutely absorbing the feeling that she’s been dreaming of for years of her life.
her hands carefully wrapped around your waist, grabbing softly. She held you close, your chest pressed to her own as she devoured your lips in a savory kiss.
the sweetness of your taste was utterly addictive, a taste more divine than anything she’s ever tasted. The kiss was warm and gentle, a savory event that you both had been waiting to happen for a long, long time.
but as it continued, it became desperate. Azula’s grip on your waist tightened, her nails digging into your skin. your hands had traveled up to her head, fingers running through her hair— twisting and pulling her black locks as you pulled each other impossibly close.
your tongues decided to join in the chorus of your mouths, dancing in sync with one another in a way you didn’t know was possible.
soft sounds that left your lips drove the princess over the edge, turning her body to pin your against the railing. her hands clawed against you, trailing down and sliding to your hips, pulling your body against hers as to the point she could feel your heartbeat, your breathing.
azula was the first to break contact, gently and deliberately breathing a wisp of steam down your neck, a parting gift of heat that drifted underneath your clothes.
you were gasping for hair, a look in your eyes azula could only imagine she mirrored. She grabbed you, turning your body and rushing in through the balcony’s door, pushing you against the end of the bed— she pushed you down, causing you to gasp. Her lips met yours once more, and that night was one that you would never forget.
the night azula finally got what she wanted.
you.

The case of live-action atla zutara.
First of all, the scarf scene. I won't be repeating myself, here are some main points - there was absolutely no reason for Zuko to act the way he did and for the scene to be shot this dramatically. Even if they did the shipbaiting in this scene - it means there's a ship which is much more than live-action kataang has at this point. Also I don't really think these guys are shipbaiting type but that's just the impression I got.
Then - the second obvious one - Oma and Shu's visuals. We have star-crossed lovers from two towns at war, basically the local equivalent of Romeo and Juliet (as in legendary lovers who are known above all for their love) wearing coincidentally colors that are primarily associated with two of our characters (who shared this dramatically shot scene in the previous episode).
And I know, it may seem so insignificant - but but but but! - you have to think about this. Of course there are creators, writers and showrunners that are unaware of some non-canon ships or don't care about them. But it's not the case for atla. No, creators of atla were so aware of zutara - they wrote a parody scene in a in-world trashy play to mock this fan pairing and it still proved absolutely nothing and just gave zutara more content. The creators and writers of this adaptation clearly had the discussion "what we should do with kataang" - because there is no trace of kataang in the 1st season. So it was a conscious decision to omit that - but where would the romantic subplot go? Well, I don't know, but they are showrunners, they most certainly discussed options. They are clearly very, very, very much aware of zutara. And they still do this? They still show us Oma and Shu wearing red and blue? All they had to do is to give at least one of them any different color. Any. But they didn't. (for fuck sake, it is the Earth Kingdom - yellow and green would do it)
There were zero, no, nada Kataang interactions, implications or those scenes that are filmed just a little bit too dramatically like the scarf one. I don't know, there's still a chance that they will wait for season 3 to make Aang's crush on Katara happen. I'm also not so sure what will happen to Aang failing to open seventh chakra, I mean - his love for Katara has a huge purpose in series, so it still doesn't look very good. But you can't even imagine how glad I am that they didn't do this secret tunnel thing. It was very uncomfortable.
So it was the more fact-based part of my case, let's get to the irrational, almost delusional part, tin foil hat probably needed.
Almost all the scenes Zuko and Katara shared in the first season kept reminding me of another famous enemies-to-lovers ship that actually became canon in the infamous final episode - Reylo, the way it was filmed in The Force Awakens. I mean - the first fight in the woods where she looses, the intensity of him staring at her, the final fight in snowy location where she kicks his ass and shows her mastering this superpower, him trying to talk to her during this fight and mentioning her learning/having to learn...Zuko calling Katara a peasant reminded me of this "Rey is no one" discourse. I don't know man, I haven't thought about The Force Awakens reylo for a very long time and it just kept popping in my head.
All of this - it's like a blueprint for enemies to lovers.
Also I actually think that the look they shared in the 2nd episode was also shot kinda weirdly and dramatically. It's not to the extent of the scarf scene but I do remember thinking that "why did they film it they way? it's too intense".
In the conclusion I'd like to say that as much as I like all the season 1 zutara stuff they left out in the adaptation - necklace subplot and implications, pirates and the famous "You rise with the moon, I rise with the sun" - I think I actually prefer the scarf scene. Yes, it would be so great to see those things in adaptation but in the end of the day they would still be just the things they kept from the original and probably noting more. Like the cabbages or the secret tunnel song or anything else, just things from the source material that implicate nothing. While the scarf scene, the Oma and Shu's clothes - it means they made a conscious decision to make it that way. It means they put some thought into that and some meaning. And this gives me hope there's a chance for Zutara in this adaptation.
P.S. I told about this my sister who hasn't watch the series yet and she said "I think people who made this show are just shipping zutara in secret". I do not necessarily imply she might be right - but creators of animated series (the very same people that made kataang canon, not zutara) DID leave because of some creative differences and because they couldn't control creative decision. Might as well be THAT kind of decision.

Working at the tea shop was Orora's first time at a job. She was just as green to it as Zuko was. However, she did not voice her disgust at the notion every few seconds. She was eager to learn, and ready to earn her living. As much as she appreciated the money Iroh had given her, she wanted to contribute to their financial situation as well.
The first day had been busy. There had been the different types of teas she had to learn to brew, other then the ones she already knew thanks to her Master. Then there were dishes to wash almost constantly. Not a lot of customers had come in that day, Pao having closed the shop early to allow his new employees to get to know their work place, so it hadn't been as tiring as she had thought it would be.
What Orora found she liked to do, was wash the dishes. She got to play with water and bubbles, and it helped calm her. Strange, she knew, but after so many days of being on the run, doing something as simple as washing dishes was oddly calming. Not to mention the job allowed her mind to roam and ponder over things she had not allowed herself to for quite some time now.
As she set aside one of the more expensive looking cups, the young waterbender sighed softly through her nose.
So far the truce she had offered Zuko seemed to be working. Though it had only been a few hours since it had been put into effect. And they'd only managed to snap at each other twice. True after the second time Iroh had seen the wisdom in separating them by giving them jobs to do at different ends of the shop. Zuko worked the front, taking orders and such, while Orora washed the dishes in the back.
Picking up a plate and dunking it in the soapy water, Orora continued to let her thoughts wander and ask the questions she wished she could say out loud.
Such as why were Zuko and Iroh fugitives of the Fire Nation? They were royalty, surely the Fire Lord would want his brother and son back. And did Zuko's sister truly want to kill her own Uncle? That thought sent a shiver down her spine. But what about their mother? Didn't she have a say in all of this? Was she treated just like Orora's mother was treated?
She had so many questions, and more, and all she wanted to do was march right up to Zuko and demand that he answer them.
But something held her back.
Maybe because she was a polite person who didn't go about poking her nose in other people's business.
Or perhaps, more likely, she had no desire to cause Zuko any pain by talking about his past. It was surely a sore subject, from the bits and pieces of information she had collected over the months. Besides, he already had his hands full trying to adjust to living in Ba Sing Se. Orora just wished he would figure himself out faster so she could ask all her questions.
Oh, she could ask Iroh if she wanted to, and her would probably answer, but for some insane reason, she wanted the answers to come from Zuko himself.
Spirit help her but she felt it was the right thing since it was his story.
Memories of every encounter she had ever had with the young prince rose unbidden, yet not unwelcome in her mind, as she started to play with the water not having any more dishes to wash.
It was strange, how someone she had not even known a few months ago was now at the very center of her life. He wasn't all that she thought about, really this was the first time she was allowing herself to think of him to such an extent. Usually she had other things to think about. Such as surviving, learning from her Master, perfecting her water bending techniques, inventing new ways to incorporate ice into her fighting, improving on her combat skills, restocking her medicinal herbs, making sure she didn't loose touch with her healing side, because as much as she liked to put her waterbending skills to use by fighting, she knew healing was a major part of who she was.
All those thoughts were pushed to the back of her mind, as she focused on a pair of golden eyes that seemed to watch her wherever she went, watching her every step. At first she had thought, it was perhaps because he didn't trust her. But slowly, that mistrust in his eyes had faded. Now, when she would catch him looking at her, he would look away.
Then again, who was she to complain. She looked at him and had been caught looking at him by him on multiple occasion.
Her fingers continued to twirl, her gaze listless as she created pretty patterns in the water.
She thought of the night when they had first met, officially at least. When he had tried to rob her. She could still recall every detail with a clarity that surprised even her.
She contemplated on their little sparring session and the conversation after it, how she had encouraged him to find something to live for, to fight for.
She recalled how shocked she had been when she realized his true identity. A prince. An honest to goodness prince. One who couldn't stand her, and who she couldn't stand either.
At least, she thought that was the case.
Her mind conjured the moment where she had first touched his scar. How vulnerable he had looked, and yet he had trusted her enough to not push her away. The way he had protected her when they were at the Oasis. The conversation they had shared while bathing. That one brought a fierce blush to her cheeks. And despite her best effort to move on to the next one, she found the blush only intensifying as she remembered the moment they had shared on the mountain.
Where they had acknowledged that they were soulmates. Where he had gripped her wrist, so desperately and yet so soft. Where she had wandered how his lips would feel against her own. And she was sure he had been thinking the same.
After all, hadn't he leaned forward slightly before the elements of nature had tread on their moment?
So lost in her thoughts, that she didn't even sense as someone else entered her work area and stood next to her. Watching her.
"Uncle says its time to go now."
The voice jolted her out of her thoughts, scaring her so much that she jumped where she stood. Her bending reacted out of instinct, mirroring her startled emotion as her hand shot a splash of water on the figure standing next to her.
"Spirits! You startled me!" She panted, resting a hand above her heart. Zuko glowered at her in return, water dripping from his hair and onto his shoulders. The girl winced, pursing her lips to hide a smile, though it still escaped. She couldn't help it, he just looked utterly ridiculous.
At his warning growl, she couldn't help but giggle. A strange sound since it hardly ever came from her. "Sorry, here." Quickly bending the water, she threw it back into the sink and gave him an apologetic smile. His glare did not let up.
"We're done here for the day. Lets go." He grumbled, before making for the door. She rolled her eyes. Clearly he wasn't too pleased with her little reaction. As he stomped off, she called after him, removing her apron as she went. "I said I was sorry!"
                                          ————————–
Their new home was a small apartment, just big enough for the three of them. As soon as they returned, Orora quickly settled in the middle of the room, wanting to get in an hour of meditation before bed. She crossed her legs, closed her eyes, folded her hands in her lap and evened out her breathing.
Which left Iroh to brew some more tea for them, and for Zuko to lay on the sofa, hands tucked behind his head as he stared up at the ceiling, his mind going over the day's event.
A job. For once in his life, he was actually working for a living. The notion had seemed strange at first, not to mention he had felt that it was beneath him, but what Orora had said was true. They did need jobs if they were to survive in this city.
Reluctantly, his gaze flickered to the water tribe girl as she sat meditating peacefully, oblivious to the effect she had had on him.
Him. Prince of the Fire Nation. Being effected by the words of a commoner.
Or rather, he was being effected by the words of a girl who was his soulmate.
Letting out a silent groan, his hand came up to press the back of his hand against his eyes, as if to physically stop him from staring too long at her. It was starting to get pathetic, just how much he would want her opinion on things.
He wouldn't go so far as to say he wanted her to approve of him, but it was pleasant to have someone else beside his Uncle give him a little wisdom. He spoke of life in riddles and words that were heavy with emotion.
Orora?
She would give it straight to his face. No regard of his feelings, his stand on whatever topic it was. She would just come out and say it.
And he appreciated her for that.
True he never always liked what she said, but sometimes they were the exact words he needed to hear.
Like the talk they had had after their impromptu battle near that lake. He still hadn't found something to live for, or to fight for, but at least he knew that he was looking for something.
Not to mention the fact that he would be ever grateful to her for saving Uncle's life. He would never say it outright, but in that moment he had been so so scared and she had stepped up and healed Iroh. Even after getting to know who they were and the lies she had been led to believe for so long.
And how she had probably saved him that stormy night on the mountain. A moment of weakness on his part, letting his emotions get the best of him, but she'd been there. She'd been where he needed her to be, and had not held back when telling him off for being so reckless.
He had to stop his thoughts there, not wanting to dwell too much on what would've happened if that moment in the rain had gone on any longer.
And then there was the truce. To live together somewhat harmoniously.
Lifting his hand, he looked at her again, watching her face. She looked so calm in that moment, as opposed to the plethora of emotions that always played about her features. Zuko found he was beginning to think of it as a game. A game where he would try to guess what she would feel next, and whether it would effect him in some way.
So far, almost every emotion she felt was directed at him, and though he would never ever admit it out loud, he kind of liked having her attention be on him rather then anything else.
Huffing to himself, as if disgusted with his own thoughts, he rose to his feet, moving to the pantry to see what he could have for dinner.
                                          ————————–
"Orora, my dear." Glancing up from where she had been counting the money of the customer who had just paid, the young waterbender gave Iroh a nod. "Yes Master?"
"We seem to have run out of Jasmine. I have asked Pao and he says to take some money from the till and buy some Jasmine tea from the shop just down the street."
Taking the money, Orora quickly nodded, before rushing to the back of the shop where Zuko was on dish washing duty. Seeing her taking off her apron, he frowned. "Where're you going?"
Straightening her clothes, the girl replied. "Ran out of Jasmine, just going to buy some." She had barely made it to the door when Zuko called out. "Wait, I'm supposed to go with you when you go out into the city."
Orora glanced over her shoulder, rolling her eyes slightly. "Relax Your Highness. Its only a five minute walk, nothing is going to happen to me." She opened the door, moving to step outside, but then she paused.
"Although, it is sweet of you to worry about me." She glanced over at him, a smile on her lips as she caught sight of the obvious flush on his cheeks as he looked at anything but her. "I'll be back soon." She said as a way of promise, before she was out of the tea shop.
It was a five minute walk, and once the goods were secured, the girl began to make her way back to the shop, her heart still warm at the prospect of Zuko actually worrying about her.
Her happy thoughts, however, were interrupted rather rudely when a hard hand grabbed her shoulder, yanking her into a dark alley, covering her mouth with a rough hand.
The instant she felt the unfamiliar hands, she began to struggle and push with all her strength, trying to get away.
"Stop moving!" A voice hissed, a very familiar voice.
Her eyes focused in the dark, and she was able to make out the face of the boy they had met on the way to Ba Sing Se.
The Freedom Fighter, Jet.
Her pale blue eyes narrowed, and a look akin to a cold anger burned in the gaze she fixed him with. "Look I just want to talk, that's all." He said, still not letting up from where he had his hand on her mouth.
She continued to glare at him, even after he had removed his hand, though his other kept an almost painful grip on her wrist. "I'm trying to help you. You're a waterbender, there's no way you would be with those firebenders of your own free will, so they must be keeping you prisoner somehow."
He knows, a voice hissed in her mind, prompting her heart to beat faster in her chest, and an ugly feeling of fear to coil in her stomach. But she didn't let it show.
Instead, she remained the epitome of disgust and anger. "What in the world are you talking about?"
There seemed to be an almost manic look in his eyes, accompanied by impatience, as he dropped her hand, and grabbed her shoulders. "You don't have to lie for them. I'm trying to help you. I just need evidence and then we can end those two firebenders."
End?! Spirits! He wanted to kill Iroh and Zuko.
Shrugging out of his grasp, Orora stepped away, fingers pulling the cork of her water satchel in case she needed to defend herself. "You're out of your mind." She growled at him. Despite the terror she felt at hearing his statement, her instinct to protect her two companions was far potent, which was the reason she was even able to face the boy with murder in his eyes.
"Just admit the truth! They're firebenders! And they deserve to die." He was starting to get frustrated with her. "I don't care what you say, I will find some way to expose them, and when I do, I'll have the pleasure of executing them."
Hearing those words, hearing the tone in his voice, the sheer hatred and anger in his eyes. Something in her snapped.
With a fierce cry she threw her arm out, the movement elegant yet deadly, given that Jet found himself staring at the very sharp ends of multiple icicles that she pointed in his direction.
"This is your first and last warning." She hissed, her voice full of warning. "If you come near them, if you so much as harm a single hair on their head, I will personally see to it that you pay for it." She fixed him with a cold stare. "In blood."
So saying, she turned her back to him, leaving him trapped behind her icicles. They would melt soon enough, though the words Jet called after her as she walked away, echoed in her ears all the way back to the tea shop.
"You would threaten someone who's on your side. You're willing to protect the enemy?! You're a traitor to your own people. A disgrace! You're just like them! A killer!"
                                          ————————–
As soon as she reached the back door of the tea shop, Orora leaned up against the wooden door. Her heart was beating so fast, she was afraid it would somehow burst out of her chest. A stinging sensation behind her eyes told her she was close to tears. Lifting a trembling hand, she pressed it to face, willing herself to calm down.
She had to warn Zuko and Iroh, make sure they were on guard. She couldn't let anything happen to them. They were her friends. She cared about them. Both of them.
Somehow, she managed to calm herself down, slightly, and entered the shop. It had taken her a good fifteen minute to calm down. Grabbing her apron, she tied it behind her in a haphazard manner before rushing out to the front of the shop.
There was Iroh, pouring tea for a customer, with Zuko picking up cups left behind by a previous customer. She all but stumbled forward, catching Zuko's hand, prompting him to look at her, confused and slightly alarmed at her obvious panicked state.
"Orora? Wha-"
But she didn't let him finish. "He knows." She whispered, aware of the other customers around her. "Jet knows." The words were spoken so softly that no one else could ever hear them, and yet Zuko did. Loud and clear.
However, before either of them could talk further on what she had revealed, the door of the shop slammed open and Jet himself walked in. A strangled gasp left her lips, as she caught sight of that murderous look in his eyes once more.
"I'm tired of waiting!" He pointed an accusing finger at both Iroh and Zuko. "These two men are firebenders! And that girl is helping them. She's a traitor!"
Immediately, Zuko pushed Orora behind him, gripping one of her hands to make sure she stayed there. Uncle and nephew exchanged a look which seemed to mirror what the other was thinking.
Play dumb.
"I know they're firebenders, I saw the old man heating his tea!" Jet continued, advancing towards the trio with his hooked swords out of their sheaths. "He works in a tea shop." A nearby customer stated in a rather confused voice, but Jet wasn't having it. "He's a firebender! I'm telling you!"
The same customer stood. "Drop your swords, boy. Nice and easy." Jet ignored him, his gaze never leaving Zuko's as he began to advance towards him and Orora. "You'll have to defend yourself. Then everyone will know. Go ahead, show them what you can do." His gaze flickered to Orora who, previous fear forgotten to be replaced by a burning anger, glared back at him. "Or would you rather have your girlfriend get hurt defending you."
She felt his grip on her hand tighten to an almost painful level. "Zuko, no! He's goading you!" She whispered, even as the previous customer moved to step forward, ready to unsheathe his sword. Zuko simply glanced at her. Her heart dropped to her stomach. She knew exactly what he was about to do.
And sure enough he stepped forward and grabbed the swords the customer had been about to withdraw. "You want a show?" He growled. "I'll give you a show!'
He pulled a table in front of him with his foot and kicked it at Jet, who was quick to slice the table with his swords and jumped over it. As he landed, he swung both hook swords at the Fire Nation prince, who deflected the attack and jumped backward onto another table. Which was again sliced in half by Jet, with a mighty swing of one sword through the middle of the table.
Somehow Zuko managed to balance on one half of the table, on one foot! Jet was unrelenting as he continued his frenzied attack by cutting the legs off the table. Zuko was quick on his feet as he jumped up. As he landed, he swung both broadswords at Jet's feet, but he somersaulted away and landed in a crouching position before charging forward. Zuko swung both of his swords at Jet.
Both weapons clashed as both fighters tried to best the other, glaring at each other as they did.
"Enough!"
Orora's scream cut through the air as she used her waterbending to push the two fighters apart. She moved to stand in front of Zuko, multiple ice knives nestled between her fingers as she stared down Jet. "We are not your enemies! Stop acting like a complete lunatic!" Zuko growled behind her. "Orora, stay out of this!" Jet's grip on his swords only tightened. "I will not listen to anyone who betrays their own people to help firebenders."
He took a running start, prompting Orora to drop in her stance to defend herself, however her plan of action went out the window when Zuko pushed her to the side. So forcefully that she fell to the ground with a loud thud.
Jet threw his leg out, catching Zuko in the chest and watching as he went flying through the air, smashing through the doors of the tea shop and out into the street. As the rest of the patrons rushed out to see what would happen next, Iroh quickly helped Orora to stand up.
"Are you alright my dear?" He asked, checking her over for injuries. She gave a quick nod, before stumbling to the door of the shop, Iroh following behind.
Outside the battle continued to rage between the two teenagers.
"Please, son, you're confused! You don't know what you're doing!" Even he was getting worried that Zuko would snap and use his firebending. Orora began to pray silently to the Moon Spirit, hoping her pleas would be heard and that Zuko wouldn't get hurt or reveal his true identity. The people would surely kill Zuko and Iroh, if they knew who they really were.
"Bet you wish he'd help you out with a little fire blast right now." As Jet swung at Zuko's feet, Zuko stabbed one of his broadswords through the hilt of his sword, pinning it to the ground. Jet looked annoyed at loosing his weapon, before focusing back on Zuko. "You're the one who needs help." Zuko responded. Leaving the sword embedded in the floor, they shifted to combating with a single sword each. Jet turned in a circle, trying to swipe at Zuko once again, but Zuko quickly advanced and swung his sword at Jet.
The Freedom Fighter quickly bent backward to avoid the blade, though it did manage to cut the straw sticking out of his mouth in half. Regaining his balance, Jet jumped backward onto the edge of a well. "You see that‌?!" He called out to the gathered crowd. "The Fire Nation is trying to silence me. It'll never happen." He attacked once more, hooking his sword to the top of the well and sending a flying kick towards Zuko.
Zuko growled as he dodged the kick and swung his sword at Jet once again. He moved to the side, and suddenly they were back-to-back, trying to land a hit, but neither could get past the other's defense.
Just then two newcomers entered the crowd. And from their uniforms, they looked to be of an official status. "Drop your weapons." One of them commanded. The two fighters stepped away and faced each other. Though Zuko lowered his sword, Jet pointed his weapon at Zuko, Iroh and Orora.
"Arrest them! They're firebenders!" Iroh stepped forward, throwing his arms out. "This poor boy is confused. We're just simple refugees." Pao, wanting to defend his employees joined in as he pointed to Jet. "This young man wrecked my tea shop, and assaulted my employees!" The customer from whom Zuko had borrowed the swords stepped forward. "It's true, sir. We saw the whole thing. This crazy kid attacked the finest tea maker in the city." Iroh blushed at the compliment. "Oh, ho, ho. That's very sweet."
Knowing it would be like adding wood to the fire, Orora stepped forward. "And he attacked me and threatened to hurt my Master and his nephew." She walked towards the two men, hand exposed to the wrist where he had grabbed her earlier. Sure enough the bruise from his grip was already beginning to change the color of her skin. The sight of it had Zuko nearly swinging his sword once again, but Iroh placed a hand on his shoulder to stop him.
It would seem the two had heard enough. As Jet continued his tirade of firebenders and Fire Nation, he was escorted to a cart where he was put in the metal cell and taken away.
Orora watched him go, unaware of the crowd as it dispersed around them.
"Orora?" At Iroh's voice, she turned around, still a little spooked with what had just happened. Or rather what could've happened. "Why don't you and Li go home. I'll help Pao clean up and meet you there."
As if she had no control over her actions, Orora took off her apron and handed it to Iroh, who gave her a sympathetic smile. "Do see that my nephew wasn't too hurt from the kick, my dear." The concern was evident in his gaze, as was the guilt in her own as she glanced at Zuko who was returning the sword to it's rightful owner.
Giving him a small nod, she waited for Zuko to walk past her, before following after him towards their shared home.
