I Attempted the Draw this Again Challenge

Quite possibly the most famous of Internet Art Challenges, “Draw This Again”. Yes, it's about time that I finally got around to doing it myself. We go from “kiddie crafty” to “sophisticated”!

I'm surprised that I've never considered doing this sooner, since I've got a ton of pieces that I love but could use a glow up. Post below if you've ever done this challenge yourself or if there's another art challenge that you'd like to see me do!

#25: Izana Kurokawa

I decided to do something special and, since he looks kind of ethereal here, I applied white ink fornthe line work in the hair and the earrings. This was done with a dip pen + comic tip, and Windsor&Newton white ink.

I had some serious trouble with this, since I still have little experience with darker skin tones and I couldn't find a resource in my folder that matched him, and the trial and error process proved frustrating since the tests I liked at a small scale came out sickly and yellowish when applied to a bigger surface... I had to trace the sketch and start over three times before I was satisfied. The blending is a bit sloppy, maybe it always is but it just doesn't show with the lighter shades... Still, I am satisfied with the overall result.

This was an art trade for a DeviantArt friend in 2007, featuring her fire-wielding Predator character. It occurs to me that fire magic and heat-based visual acuity are a potentially problematic combination... But this guy makes it work. We don't ask how. We're busy trying not to be eaten by his +15 fireball.
