Today marked four years since the world lost Carrie Fisher. We all miss you so much, Space Mom. Your family lost you. Your friends lost you. Your fans lost you. You were adored and loved by so many whose lives you touched as yourself and as Princess Leia. I was four years old when I was introduced to Star Wars and she came into my life. I wanted to grow up to be Leia. Why? Because Leia was a take charge, butt-kicking Princess who still got her man after making him earn her all while fighting for what she believed was right. She spoke truthfully, from the heart, and was unafraid to speak her mind. She stood her ground even in the hands of the enemy. Leia chose the right thing over the easy thing and she seemed to be fearless about making tough choices. She made me believe that a girl could do anything. As I got older, I learned more about Carrie Fisher outside of Leia and only loved her more. I found her even more inspiring because she was unafraid to share her struggles with the world. She was so candid and real about the fight that people have with addiction and mental illness when so few were afraid to talk about it. She’s one of the reasons more people open up about those topics today. She’s a hero and a warrior whose legacy for these things will never die but only grow. This bracelet was a Christmas gift this year. I will wear it with pride. I know there will be times the answer to the question may be 🖕🏻or completely inappropriate for the situation. However, it will make me smile to see it on my wrist and think about her. I will think of her wise words. I will think of Leia too. The growing resistance here fights for real change. I fight for it too. I also fight for myself in my own deeply personal battles. How many of you went to see her one last time?#TheRiseOfSkywalker ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ The first & the last time I met her was at @saskexposaskatoon 2016 👍⠀ Actually, I met her dog 🐶 Gary first, while I was wondering whose puppy was lost🤔this nice lady came to my booth and picked up this princess Leia doll. ⁠⠀ We started to chat and I introduced her my handmade StarWars amigurumi collection, then she smiled and said "Billie will love this" ⁠💕⠀ ⁠⠀ It's the biggest compliment to hear ppl really appreciate my amigurumis, you can see the sparkles in their eyes✨Even though I didn't know who Billie is. @praisethelourd⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ 📸My tradition is to take pictures of my happy customers with the amis they adopted at my booth, so I asked her : Do you want a picture with Leia ? ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ She said: Let's take a picture TOGETHER!⁠🤗⠀ ⠀ It was weird because there were so many cosplayers around my booth and they all dressed in black suit ,I told them it's ok to come check out my dolls but they just stood there🤷‍♀️⠀ ⁠⠀ "Tag me on social media if you want !!" I told her this as I said to everyone who I took a picture of.🙌🏻She left in smile and those black suit cosplayers followed her.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ Later when I found out I just met THE CARRIE FISHER😱😱😱I felt so embarrassed and dumb 😰😨😵and to those "cosplayers" who are actually her body guards... ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ My husband is the HUGE STAR WARS FAN and he's the one who told me the lady I just took a picture with is the real princess Leia after I text him that pic. It's hard to believe that Carrie Fisher has been gone for 3 years now. But she's not really gone. She's alive in any woman who refuses to settle for other people's dreams rather than her own. She's alive in any woman who roots for other women to succeed, too. She's alive in any woman who can look at the hardships in her life and choose to find humor and strength, instead of letting it define and defeat her. At a very young age, she taught me to strive to do those very things. And I, no matter how old I am, will always continue to try to make her proud.
