does anyone else find it kinda weird that SPOP just casually dropped in the fact that there’s a Prince who can see ANYWHERE in the world magically, aka the perfect spy, and Glimmer just… didn’t think of recruiting him?
Why wasn’t Peekablue already part of the Rebellion??? What is he using his powers for that’s soooo important? He could literally see all of the Horde’s plans and warn the Rebellion and give them a HUGE leg up on them, and he wasn’t even mentioned until S5.
I know he was a hermit almost never seen but are you telling me Glimmer wouldn’t even TRY to find him and convince him to join? That’s a mystery in itself; where IS Peekablue, and why does no one care? Is he literally missing? Because if he’s literally missing, maybe someone should help him.

So to begin: sometimes I text in my sleep. This ranges from waking up with zero memory of what I’ve said to thinking I made myself a super coherent note only to find I’ve said [looks at notes] “Demiotic first ones script?? Heironymous speech register”.
I appear to have forgotten I was writing “hieroglyphs” halfway through the word and conflated Demotic with semiotics but I think I’m picking up what sleeping Clare was putting down, yk?
Hieroglyphs weren’t in common use through the entire history of Egypt, right, like they had common scripts derived from them which could be inscribed more easily, like Demotic or hieratics or cursive hieroglyphs. Like without even counting the other languages borrowing from the letters, just ways to represent ancient Egyptian. But hieroglyphs were favored for monumental inscription, is what I’m getting at. They carved it into their dope buildings, and then had simpler scripts which could be written way faster & with less planning. [looks pointedly at first ones’ script]
So I was futzing around with that, breaking the first ones’ script down into shapes, when I realized they HAD made phoneme-based pairs, they just did it by adding dots instead of rotating the shapes. My apologies, whomever came up with this. You DID try, even if it wasn’t immediately apparent.
Anyway as I was doing that I decided to just map them onto some IPA charts to help visualize relational shapes/phonemes. Sorry it looks like shit I’m at work ✌️
Tumblr media
The stuff in blue is speculative anyway & I maintain it’s an absurd basis for a script of any kind but I’m getting there. I am getting there.

The desperation in Crowley's and Catra's actions:
Catra runs away, then puts up a physical fight, then cries and asks Adora what she REALLY wants, implying, in the process, what Catra herself actually wants.
Crowley gets angry, and then he gives Aziraphale a bitter, rough kiss in a last attempt to get him to stay. In a last attempt to get him to understand that he wants him.
The naive ignorance behind Adora's and Aziraphale's:
Adora thinks that trusting Shadoweaver and freeing the magic is the best and only thing to do because she wants to save Etheria. She tosses her own interests aside to save the planet, including Catra.
Aziraphale thinks that trusting the Metatron and going back to Heaven is the best thing to do because he wants to make life on earth better. But he also wants to make Crowley's life better, he wants for him to be happy again.
What neither Adora nor Aziraphale understand is that the only thing Catra and Crowley need in order to be happy is them.
If Adora sacrifices herself to save Etheria, Catra will be alive but she will never be happy again.
If Aziraphale goes back to Heaven, with or without Crowley, the latter knows that Zira will just be manipulated into falling out of love for him. Becoming another Gabriel. Crowley remembers how the "good side" treated him before he fell. He remembers how it treated Aziraphale before he said "enough". He doesn't want for any of it to happen, ever again.
Both Catra and Crowley know that they're gonna lose Adora and Aziraphale if they listen to them, and then come to understand that they'll lose them anyway.
I'm bitter af right now.

IVE ONLY SEEN ONE PERSON POINT THIS OUT BUT MK TRIES TO PUNCH MACAQUE DISGUISED AS WUKONG BEFORE HE EVEN REALIZES ITS WUKONG. I CAN FEEL THE MK AND SWK FIGHT IN MY BONES. Also can you imagine with like that one art post Mei asks MK who HE wants to be, not a reflection of somebody, not the Monkie Kid, not the Harbringer of Chaos and HE REPLIES WITH HIS REAL NAME I WOULD GO INSANE
I'm like. 85% sure that person was me afasdfafsd. I know I've mentioned it before somewhere!
Because it's like, MK feels extremely abandoned and hurt by Wukong during s2. MK's line of "Fine! Then just leave! At least my friends will never abandon me!" in 2x01 Sleep Bug is VERY telling, and it also makes me sob when put together with 3x10 The Samadhi Fire:
MK: "NO! Mei is my best friend—I'd never abandon her when she needs me! We're heroes! It's what we do!"
And 4x02 New Adventures:
MK: “You don’t know! We’d risk it for sure! I won’t abandon them when they need us.”
MK's own low self-worth combined with Wukong's tendency to leave in the worst way possible, which was only further exacerbated by the Lady Bone Demon's manipulation.
And I think MK's experiences and feelings throughout s2 made him resolve to never make his friends feel abandoned.
But of course, since this is Lego Monkie Kid, it's more interesting than just that—because MK leaves at the end of s4. It was out of fear, sure, but so was Wukong leaving in s2 and at the end of s3. MK does exactly what he set out not to do, making the same mistakes his mentor has, literally going to isolate himself on Flower Fruit Mountain for an undetermined amount of time.
It's things like this that make the question of "Who is MK" so intriguing, because that's who MK want's to be. He want's to be himself. But who is that person?
Is MK just like Wukong? Is he a harbinger of chaos? Is he just a noodle delivery boy? Is he Monkie Kid? What if you remove all those labels? What's left? What is he?
(Plus the whole "I just want to be me—to be MK!" "Yeah well...we all know where that leads." interaction between MK and the curse in 4x07)
And now that we've thrown MK's mysterious past and ominous future into the mix, we are in for a FULL on identity crisis spiral next season.
And well, when it comes down to it, MK was willing and ready to fight Wukong in s2. The lmk writers are fantastic at paying off several arcs all at the same time (see all of 3x10, which literally had the culmination of Mei's, MK's, Wukong's, and Macaque's arcs all in one. It's fucking phenomenal), and this is partly due to the time constraints of the show as a whole, but it's also just damn good writing. MK's past, his identity, the hurt he's experienced across every season—that's all going to come to a head. I also imagine it's going to happen right along side Mei, Wukong, and Macaque's arcs once again, because that's just how this show do. It do insane shit.
I also happen to be a believer in "Samadhi Fire Part 3", in which we get another 3x10 and 4x08 parallel to round it all up, and I am waiting, WAITING, for Mei to repeat MK's words back at him:
“Mei! You have to stop. I know you’re upset, and that’s okay! I know what it’s like to have a power you don’t know how to control—to feel like the fate of the world is in your hands and you have no idea what to do! But you always have my back, and help me through it. We, will figure this out! Together!” (3x10 The Samadhi Fire)
((Which, MK himself is repeating Mei's words back at her, with "But we're going to figure this out." I NEED A POSITIVE FEEDBACK FRIEND LOOP BABY))
But yeah. I'M WAITING MAN. WE HAVE THE SAME BONE FEELINGS.

ribs by the crane wives is about catra in she-ra season five.
'the dark doesn't frighten me i chose to close my eyes/it is mine' horde prime lights up everything bright and clean. catra chooses to find solace in the shadows - she chooses to change. this is especially clear in 'corridors', when she stands between the bright light of horde prime and the dim corridor that the memory of her and adora is in. she chooses the darkness, chooses the safety - chooses the right path.
'the night doesn't frighten me i chose to let it thrive/it is mine' very few people trust catra when she returns. she has to be on the same team as shadow weaver. she has so many reasons why she could turn her back on everyone. she almost does. but she chooses to continue making the right decisions, chooses to endure despite everything. we see so many times throughout the series where she makes bad decisions, turns away from what she knows is the right choice. she tries to squash out the voice telling her to change - until she doesn't. until she makes the right decision and continues to do so. in some ways it was for adora. mostly, i'd argue it was for herself.

HOLD ON. Was anyone going to tell me the author of The Girl From The Sea, works on The Owl House, wrote Enchanting Grom Fright, and married ND Stevenson, the creator of She-Ra (2018), or was I just supposed to find out through a tumblr page with a Peridot profile picture myself?

"Light Spinner" was honestly the most heartbreaking She Ra episode I've seen so far
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Catra constantly insists she is nothing like Shadow Weaver in any way, but the parallels between her journey and Shadow Weaver's as Light Spinner are not even subtle. Shadow Weaver even says they are similar, that she reminds her of herself. And as much as Catra insists she doesn't want that, of course she wants that. She wants them to be similar because she thinks that Shadow Weaver will finally love her and appreciate her if she's another version of her, only better, if she doesn't make the same mistakes, if she comes out on top. She hates her so much but she also wants to BE her, but the thing preventing her from following in Shadow Weaver's footsteps is the best part about her. It's her capacity for love and kindness. It's her lack of selfishness and greed. She never wanted to rule the hoard or be second in command, but she feels like she has to be even as her own nature rebels against it.

Entrapta, like Catra, has all the foundations for a corruption arc. Pre-existing deviance, a solid motivation for revenge, climbing up the enemy ranks until she is the head boss's left hand, and then gaining powet over Hordak himself. Like many villain scientists she assists and joins with the good guys from time to time.
What makes Entrapta different is that, through all of this, she ISNT a mastermind, morally grey ends justifies the means scientist. She is in fact a complete cinnamon roll who's hurt by what happened but doesn't hold a grudge at all and has joined the villains because they gave her sense of belonging, and a place to foster her love of science. So you have the top dog villain at the start of season 3 when shes finally got power over Hordak, and she's using it to tell him to love himself, to show him that our flaws are what make us beautiful and they shouldn't be masked, especially if we need help. And in season 5 she's not the sneaky ex villain getting a questionable redemption, she's literally leading the front lines in terms of converting people to the Rebellion, pulling one clone of a million clones out from under Prime and immediately being able to connect with him, being the one to tell Prime to his face he will never understand love, wrecking his brainwashing network, her connection with Hordak leading to Prime's death.
It's... so OPPOSITE to Shadow Weaver, who joined the rebellion about the same time Entrapta overtook Catra in the horde and then disappeared. Weaver has the standard "redemption" arc but doesn't learn a damn thing in her life, has no humility, and is constantly fucking with people's heads underneath her silver tongued words, all stuff Entrapta literally cannot do.
So you have this very compassionate pure of heart character influencing the iron cold leader of the villains, and this incredibly manipulative abusive character influencing the leaders of the heroes.
I think it's interested how shera plays so hard with tropes.
Yes! Exactly! One of my favorite parts about Entrapta’s character is that, in seemingly direct contrast to Shadow Weaver who looks, talks, and acts like a fairy tale Disney villain evil witch 24/7, with even her attempted ‘redemption martyr moment’ just piling more mental scars onto her surrogate daughters,  everything that we’re presented with in the first few minutes System Failure gives us the idea that Entrapta is this typical (albeit sweet-toothed) Mad Scientist soon-to-be-if-not-already-villain. She lives in a classically evil scary castle on a mountain, it’s full of traps, secret passageways, and (conveniently timed) robot zombies, and there’s mutants in the sewers apparently?!? Especially since some fans know her old incarnation was a shallow villain, once she finally crawls out of a vent like a goddamn Xenomorph with welding mask eyes glowing with menace the audience thinks they have her character figured out, and then she subverts these expectations by greeting our heroes with a genuine, cheery, hospitable welcome that still acknowledges the immediate danger they’re facing and her direct involvement in it. And ever since then, all she’s wanted to do is help people and do science (and hopefully make friends with people by doing those two things). Even when she learns She Ra’s most direct and effective weakness, even when she’s given the chance to use that weakness *again* after she thinks the BFS and Princess Alliance left her for dead, she still doesn’t take the opportunity to go full "They laughed at my experiments, but now I’ll show them all! Brand New Day! Muahahahaha!” etc etc. Shadow Weaver WISHES she could’ve climbed the evil corporate ladder as fast as Entrapta did, and ironically she accomplished it by doing the exact opposite approach to SW: Being 100% genuine and honest about her opinions, knowledge, and feelings. And Hordak establishes time and time again that he hates dishonesty in his ranks (mostly because he’s not great at subterfuge and trickery himself) and gains valuable knowledge and self-worth from Entrapta’s genuine honesty. I may be forgetting something, but I’m pretty sure the one and only time Entrapta intentionally, consciously lies about something is that bit in System Failure where she find the lab and says “We’re here! Uh, I mean, of course we’re here, we were never lost.” Of course, just because she never even considers taking steps towards actual, conscious Villainy and Vengeance doesn’t mean we can’t think up AUs where she does go down that path a bit.  One concept that I’ve yet to make into a proper fic is an alternate ending to Season 5 in which she has a more active role in usurping Prime, fully disconnecting him from the other Clones before Hordak does the Darth Vader/Emperor reference, then taking over the Velvet Glove’s army of clones, droids, and drones in order to collect data on the flora, fauna, and magic of Etheria before expanding her DC Brainiac style "data collection” to the rest of the newly entered galaxy.
anyway thanks for prompting and then coming to my Ted Talk
