Sir William Crookes was a pioneering scientist credited with many key discoveries and inventions that paved the way for devices like the vacuum tube, CRT, and X-Ray tubes.

One of his interesting side discoveries from 1879 was how minerals with fluorescent properties would glow when placed into a vacuum and excited via a high voltage electric field.

Following this discovery, displays using this technology were made to order and sold as decorative art, like this tube containing a glass sphere embedded with Ceylon rubies - circa 1900.

City23 Week 1

We find ourselves at the very top of the reservoir, where many start to define the edge of the city proper. Logs cut down by the Waterlogged Logging Co. make their way down the river, often ridden by workers or travelers looking to rest their feet at the end of their journey to the city.

That's the first week done! It's been nice to sit down after work each day to write and sketch for just 5 minutes; I don't know if I'm going to be able to take the time to ink the sketches every week though.

Chodzę ponad ziemią

Zostawiam tutaj pamiątkę z wyprawy w klimaty dark music, stream punk, gothic rock. Na południu Polski rozbrzmiewała muzyka przez 4 dni, jak co roku od 1994. Moja wizyta pozostawiła ślad we mnie. Kolorem wiodącym jest czerń, choć zdarzają się wyjątki. Wyrafinowane formy eksponowane poprzez ubiory, muzykę, przekonania porywają. 

Wydarzenie dzieje się w pagórkowatym Bolkowie na pograniczu Zachodnich Sudetów. To @Castel Party. Muzyczny festiwal. Pozostaję z nim na dłużej słuchając She Past Away, Lady Extasy, Blutengel, Bokka i innych dynamicznych, dziwacznych, kojących nut. Oddaj się melodii lipcowego grania. 

Przyjrzyj się bohaterom i bohaterkom uwiecznionym na moich fotografiach.

#City23 Day 1! (Kinda)

I've decided to take part in City23 this year and for the inaugural post here an intro to the notebook I'm using and the concept I'll be working with.

Welcome to ____, the Streampunk City

I asked some friends for ideas of what I should do for this project, and one friend suggested Steampunk but accidentally wrote "Streampunk" instead. I liked the accidental idea, so we're going with it!

The city (name pending) is built where the a river meets the ocean. Districts and neighbourhoods have cropped up on the delta deposits, and the city has fashioned itself as a magical Venice of sorts.

How I hope to be doing this

As you can see in the second image, I've already drawn out a rough layout of the city. This can and will likely change over the course of the year, but I felt like I needed to at least lay down the surrounding geography.

Each month will be focused on a different neighbourhood/district, with various random methods being used to determine what sort of thing will be created on an individual day.

I likely won't be making updates every single day - hopefully I'll make monthly posts.

Okay, I think that's it - let's do this!
