Maybe I’m too hopeful but I don’t think the pr line that we should focus on racing/no distractions is working. I’ve seen more and more coverage outside the formula 1 bubble from sources that don’t usually give much attention to f1.

This is actually a really good read, and very well laid out.

I quite like this quote "The sport, of course, made promises that it will do better in these avenues. Talk is just talk though, if there aren’t actions to back it up when the stakes have never been higher"

I started watching X-Files a couple of months ago and finally finished the whole show, plus the movies and revival. Jesus. I started looking at fanfic but am totally intimidated by HOW MUCH OF IT there is. Like. 30 years worth of it? Where do I even start? Do I read old stuff or new stuff? Are there any authors that have been writing since the 90’s? Who’s stuff should I be reading? What should I be reading? There are so many different kinds! (Okay, but not fluff, because The Ick.) (and only the shippy stuff because I am not a monster.) Where does one even start in this fandom?

TLDR: If you want to read the classics-- the multi-chapter beasts hailed across The X-Files fandom-- I'd go to @lilydalexf's page and sort through her pinned Masterpost of recs; if you want my personal favorites, I've got my own complied Masterlist pinned, as well. If you want author suggestions, I listed a few below (but not all-- even of my personal favorites.) Older fics have a more "walled-off" approach to Scully and an edgier, distant approach to Mulder; newer fics have a more open approach to their exchange and dynamic. I prefer the latter, but that's likely because I was able to watch the show as a whole rather than episode by episode with a lot of guesswork in-between.

I know like geographically it does not make any sense but I’m mashing up this costal village place I love with this highland town we used to visit in summers and getting a lando/Oscar summer au. do you have any tips for drawing dynamic poses? i always love the way you draw bodies!!

i know this has been said a million times but the way i draw bodies significantly improved after i started drawing more frequently from reference. if i cant find a reference for a pose on the internet, i'll just use myself or a friend. i spend an unfortunate amount of time just standing in front of my mirror looking at my own joints. pay attention to where your body curves!!

other than that though—honestly my anatomy/pose knowledge is a whack amalgamation of art tips i've accumulated over the years (i miss old school deviantart/tumblr style art tutorials). i also like to look at how artists i admire draw bodies—what details to they include, what anatomical short-hands etc

i think i'm still figuring out how to draw dynamic poses, but here are some cheats i've picked up (under the cut coz this got long again):

gonna use this stray!tim as a base

the easiest way for make up a pose is to start roughly with the head, collarbones, ribcage, and pelvis — you can build everything from there

here's a couple more of what i mean by the ribcage-pelvis deconstruction:

2. push your perspective a little!! imo things look more dynamic if you move your sight-line up or down—the horizontal orange line here. if you look at the panels above, the sight lines tend to be a little low, at around the character's torso or waist. i did the same below with stray!tim

to do this i usually try to get a sense of the space im working in by putting in some sloppy perspective grids

3. S curves!!! exaggerate the lines of the body. the body naturally has parallel horizontal lines—an easy way to get a body to look less rigid is to tilt those horizontal lines which in turn curves the vertical line of the body

this is what a mean by horizontal lines—usually i use the eyes, shoulders, and hips:

i'm gonna use caterina as a better example—usually you want the horizontal lines to sort of zigzag:

i've also picked up a couple visual tricks that don't exactly add dynamism to a pose? but they do give a static pose a little more oomph. a lot of this is done by visually highlighting one specific point of the body

for our purposes, i'm gonna make the focal point tim's face

motion blur! there are a couple ways to do this. i actually dont like working with traditional motion blur because you have to mess around with selections, so i usually fake motion blur using postional perspective blur:

2. gradient lighting—you can add a lot of depth this way. usually i like setting the gradient in the direction of the focal point, e.g. tim's face

below, i added a layer above the base drawing, used an airbrush to get this gradient, and then set the layer to color burn and lowered the opacity. you can also clip the lighting layer to the base drawing and set it to multiply

below, i did the opposite—instead of adding a gradient shadow, i added gradient light. i set the layer to add this time (instead of color burn) and then lowered the opacity again.

this kinda serves to desaturate the parts of the piece that are less important (ish i was kinda sloppy here), driving the eye to face—the most saturated. the motion blur does a similar thing, where the only thing "in focus" is tim's face

the gradient also sort of adds a directionality to the piece—it starts at the bottom right corner and goes up towards the upper left, causing your eye to follow that same path, which drags your gaze up tim's body

here's what it looks like when i combine 1 and 2:

3. chromatic aberration's been pretty popular recently. it does a similar thing as perspective blur but with more eyestrain (although i went with a really exaggerated version below just to show you what it does) but it looks cool!

i'm currently reading 1968 by @inthedayswhenlandswerefew. it is an angsty reader x aegon au and i am totally hooked! maggie never misses on her modern au's.

i am also reading the maiden and the drowning boy by @emilykaldwen. it is an ongoing canon-era aegon x oc fic with an oc i absolutely adore. the development so far of abby and aegon is lovely and nuanced and you cannot convince me that abby isn't a canon character as she fits in so well! (she is in my heart, grrm watch OUT.)

additionally, i'm enraptured by they say i killed you (haunt me then) by @vampire-exgirlfriend. wylla is another oc i absolutely love, paired with aemond. i love me a feisty northern woman so wylla fits the bill perfectly and gives aemond a run for his money.

as for angsty fics (that i have finished!) i have quite a few to recommend!!

glass cuts deepest by @flowerandblood is a beautiful series and i could go on for hours on why this is one of my favorite series. it is a modern au with a ~scandalous~ student / professor pairing with oh so much angst. this fic (and the lovely author) made me create my tumblr account and share my writing with you all, so it is close to my heart!

who taught you to love like that? by @ewanmitchellcrumbs made me tear up quite a few times and may or may not be my late night why-am-i-crying-and-horny-at-the-same-time fic. conscripted me into the aemond x sugar baby vision. want it, need it. asap.

dragonskin by @missybee-writes is a LONG HAUL for sure, but goodness gracious if it doesn't hit all of the points of a good read for me. angst, action, romance, smut... and take everything you know about the dance of the dragons and throw it out the window, because things are VERY much different here. it is a ride i can't wait to sit down and take again!

consequences by @targaryenrealnessdarling is the QUINTESENTIAL angst fic. not only that, it is inclusive of one of my favorite tropes which is aemond x maid / servant. this fic has TEETH and will rip your little heart out but good god if it doesn't hurt so good!! this is another fic i read when i need a good cry.
