soo crazy to me how in the last year with minghao, dokyeom, hoshi, joshua, junhui, and now woozi (idk if i'm missing someone) y'all are way too ready and eager to automatically throw them under the bus over something some random person (usually antis) said online and then like a day or two later when everyone comes to the consensus that it wasn't actually that big of a deal or even wrong/bad in the first place (which you could've figured out yourself from the beginning by just doing like. 30 seconds of research and exercising your critical thinking skills) everyone just moves on like nothing happened and goes back to being a fan/stanning them or whatever like you weren't just going with the crowd and shit-talking them 12 hours ago
#not even going to get into how so many problems arise from no understanding of korean/asian culture#and relying on half-assed and sometimes just straight up wrong translations#like cool you don't have to know everything about a culture or be fluent in a language but#that also means you probably shouldn't be speaking on certain things at all much less without even trying to look into it a bit more#anyways..yeah i'm sorry maybe i'm delusional but i definitely am going to default to trusting my idols#and then figuring out for myself if i really think they did something that bad or “cancel” worthy#before i'm about to believe some random twitter/tumblr/tiktok user and just go with whatever they tell me to think about something#and most of y'all don't apologize or clarify anything. just move on right after hurling the most abhorrent accusations against these people#who are people too in case anyone forgot#but then an idol kills themselves and everybody boohoo's and cries and acts like they just can't believe how this happened again#like it's you. you're why#and i can only speak on the last year of course bc that's how long i've been an actual carat and kept up with them to this extent#i'm sure other stupid stuff has happened before that too with other members#i just think if you're so ready to toss away your idols without giving them like any benefit of the doubt whatsoever you just need to go#i hate when i see this stuff too bc i'm usually only seeing the korean side of stuff and most of these things are such a non-issue here#bc people know better (not saying there aren't some crazy fans everywhere but)#then i see some dumb shit on tumblr dot com that either only has links to some dumb twitter thread#or i have to search for on twitter because again. i do not see stuff from int'l fans unless i am forced to or look it up intentionally#and just saying the timing of these things is always so calculated by antis and y'all fall for it every single time#this is all i have to say bc i just remembered the whole thing abt ppl trying to say hao was being fatphobic or something dumb#and then i remembered everything else and it just made me mad all over again lol#if anyone disagrees with any of this feel free to block me🥰

lord help us all I've been given a reason to think about Dracula novel/Drizzt series crossover
I love following canyourfavesurvivecastledracula (I especially love seeing characters I'm not familiar with on there) and they recently got an ask about my little guy Drizzt Do'Urden but didn't know all that much about him BUT YOU SEE (unfortunately for everyone who knows me in any way) this is a crossover of the two major fandoms that have become my entire personality in the past year or so! so as someone who's eagerly awaiting the return of Dracula Daily Season AND reading multiple of the Drizzt series books as we speak (simultaneously! help..) and considers him a blorbo to tenderly and lovingly put in the microwave to watch him dodge the radiation like an ant, I'm taking a crack at it because this looks like fun :D
Making my own post because this is purely to be enrichment in my enclosure and also it's.. gotten So So Very Long.. also pouring one out for my other account where I normally would post this sort of thing that I simply cannot log into anymore for mysterious and unknown reasons. (Literally it's still like There and I can See It but trying to log in takes me to 'make a new blog' pages and... wait I'm silly I think I know why. the email died. no idea how to get back in without the email.)
ANYWAY
To the thought experiment:
Could Drizzt Do'Urden Survive Castle Dracula?
Short answer: Yes, it's not a fun time for him, he saves the baby though!
Long answer:
Using the blog's stated general criteria...
Overall approach to the supernatural:
Is an elf, knows what a vampire is, however D&D vampires work differently from Dracula vampires so he would not have all the information on that front if it came to a confrontation. (Knowing the Drizzt books, it would definitely come to at least one fight or at least a tense chase sequence.)
Also depends on how quickly he clocked that this is, in fact, a vampire, and whether Dracula could catch on to him catching on and spin things in a way that kept Drizzt relatively chill OR decide it's time to strike (which he could probably escape) (though now I'm thinking about Vampire!Drizzt....... no no I shouldn't.... unless.....)
The presence of Guenhwyvar (constellation panther BFF my beloved) would afford him some protection other than Dracula's whims, and companionship which is Very Important as he has been known to go feral without sufficient friendship.
Probably takes all the local superstitions very seriously because where he comes from if someone's like "there are ghosts that come out on certain days" and "there are monsters in these woods" they mean it very Very literally.
Dracula's general inhuman behaviors he could take in stride and adapt to pretty well I think, he's known a lot of really eccentric people and is from Fantasy Zone, so the idea that Dracula isn't human wouldn't be scary or even all that weird. Vampire, yeah that's sus, but just non-human? you walk past a hundred non-humans on a single street in most cities where he's from. Many of the eccentricities might be explainable just by going "Ah, he seems to be some kind of wizard. Yeah that checks out." Doesn't seem to be sleeping on a normal schedule or at all? Drizzt does that too! Sees too well in the dark/doesn't seem to use lights much? Darkvision and light sensitivity, same! Moves inhumanly fast? A little concerning but why not. Tells stories from centuries ago as if he was there? Elves do that all the time and it's because they were, in fact, there. (Also some human wizards do all of that too, just because.)
Now because things work differently between these two settings I'm not sure how much his general familiarity with things in the Forgotten Realms would help him here, like he's taking it all in stride but does he know how to protect himself against a Dracula-type vampire? Does he know magic is so incredibly rare and (apparently) usually evil or does he think this is just an unusually magic-less region?
Whether they would accept the crucifix from the old lady:
He is a polite young man so yes of course he would, and because the lady doesn't know what a drow (or an elf?) is, she probably wouldn't think "evil!!!" like most of the common folk in the Realms do, so much as "weird-looking (yet androgynously beautiful) young man" or depending on the local superstitions may assume he's some sort of fey being? or just like, really exceptionally foreign foreigner.
Assuming she still offers it, he would accept it despite not knowing what sort of deity it's for, because he recognizes it's a token of goodwill and he loves expressions of goodwill. Would definitely go and write about it in his little diary to both wonder what she's so afraid of/what sort of protection it affords, and also gush about the kindness and possibly whether this expands or aligns with his current understanding of morality.
This plus the other Superstitious Behaviors would clue him in that something's up so he'd be going in with that knowledge, prepared to figure out what's going on and what the villagers are so afraid of.
Whether they would go exploring after being told not to:
100% and he might even be stealthy enough to mostly get away with it!
Demonstrably does not like being restricted, only went along with this stuff when he was younger because the indoctrination ensured that he literally had no idea there was any other option (also his dad sparred with him daily to get his energy out so his zoomies were managed)
If Dracula really truly wanted to discourage him from any particular places he might just need to come up with an explanation, but he might also be entertained enough by Drizzt's sneaking and snooping to let him roam and see where it goes. Drizzt is better at stealth than Jonathan but they have different flavors of wet cat charm which Dracula may want to handle differently.
Depending on how you read the scene with the vampire ladies trying to "kiss" Jonathan, like how much of it was vampire charm making him feel kinda into it or potentially more of a paralysis situation, it could go differently just because Drizzt may or may not be able to break out and run away very fast, or just kinda endure it while feeling Really Bad And Gross about the sexual overtones. (Based on instances such as him resisting drugs and exiting the room as fast as possible when a priestess was coming onto him, and going feral to push through a paralyzing poison to prevent an assault on another person.) (I read him as incredibly demisexual and he demonstrates being sex-repulsed to everyone outside of the very short list of people he's actively very close friends with and attracted to.) (His feral side has been known to come out in these types of situations but not all of them and it wouldn't necessarily always work either.)
The girlies would not put him off of exploring for very long but he would likely be trying to avoid all possible run-ins with them from that point forward. Unfortunately for him he is a tasty little guy and I think the girlies would actively mess with him against Dracula's orders, perhaps in part because he's an elf and they find that interesting and engaging. Enrichment for their enclosure! Horrible time for Drizzt. Exactly the way the vampire squad likes it!
Verdict: He has a bad time but he's gotta run around he has the zoomies. Dracula could possibly prevent this, if he wanted to prevent it, by letting him into a training yard of some kind so he can get out his energy.
Ability to manage the whims of a Rich Jerk / hold Dracula's interest:
This one is harder and probably depends on the circumstances of him going to the castle, like what his goal there is, and around what point in the timeline he's at. I haven't gotten through all 30-something books just yet but my answer is Probably?
Just the fact of him being an elf and having some innate magic abilities could possibly be enough for Dracula to find him interesting enough to keep around. He's not a wizard and his innate spells are mostly harmless, more battlefield management than anything, so he's not magically a particularly powerful threat to Dracula, just decently interesting. He could also go on about how magic works where he's from, though going on too much about his inherent drow magic would make him uncomfortable (which Dracula would probably like) and especially like, if he got into the ins and outs of Menzoberranzan specifically.
He would definitely bring out the active listening skills for Dracula's history and war stories. Might want to get examples of any particularly interesting fighting maneuvers. I wonder if Dracula would indulge him in a spar or let him practice? The castle must have a training yard somewhere, but would he let Drizzt keep his weapons/borrow some?
Usually good enough at reading the room to determine when is or is not a good time for the scimitars and the panther (combat mode) to come out.
Not the most charismatic, but insightful and clever. (autism-ass elf. elftism.......)
Raised in a very controlling environment with a strict social hierarchy where he was simultaneously part of a high-ranking noble family but also as far down the social ladder as he could be otherwise (male, youngest child, was supposed to be assigned spell component at birth, doesn't like conforming) so, again, he wouldn't like it but he could probably manage it.
Partly depends on how much effort Dracula is willing to put in to make the Friendship believable and keep Drizzt in the dark, or if he's interesting enough to more carefully balance a web of manipulation around.
I'm gonna say this point gets a Yes
Assuming he realized the vampires are Bad but too dangerous to 2v4, he would be so uncomfortable for most of it but is also funky enough that Dracula would probably find his discomfort and weird-but-trying-to-be-so-polite mannerisms entertaining. Dracula would decide this is his blorbo now. I may be biased but this is tumblr so actually Dracula himself said all of this to me personally in DMs.
Facility for climbing without gear (free soloing):
Lizard fashion? Spider fashion...
He Is On The Walls
Multiple points in the books involve him sneaking around places by climbing on walls and I believe elves are canonically, in general, weirdly good at parkour. So yeah!
Whether they would choose to risk being eaten by vampires over the certain death of being eaten by wolves:
IF he has weapons, the wolves aren't really certain death because he is a whirling tornado of death, I am so sorry wolves. If not then he might be able to parkour out of their way? He probably wouldn't want to fight the wolves though, because he is a disney princess nature lover and would rather free them from Dracula's control if possible.
Depending on how much he could figure out about how vampires work here, he may have some ideas for how to turn a fight against them to his advantage or otherwise.
Wait, this happens after the baby incident, right? If so then he's not getting to this point plot-wise, though he might have come back to try fighting the vampires after saving the baby, and depending on how he's doing that, he might still have to contend with the wolves at some point.
Decision: Doesn't want to go against the wolves at any point, but if necessary, he can out-parkour them.
General analysis from Me:
Main counts on the original post are accurate! He accepts the cross, survives the social situations as long as necessary, and escapes with the baby to give it back to the villagers upset but otherwise intact.
As soon as he realized the vampires were menacing the locals to any extent, he would decide to figure out a way to free the area of their evil. Unfortunately the best way for him to figure out anything about the vampires is to stay in close quarters with them for a little while. He has been known to pretend to side with an enemy to gain information or an advantage in a fight, but I'm not sure how long he could keep it up.
Dracula might string him along with Friendship (Drizzt loves friendship so much if he doesn't have friendship he will explode) but he would have to get his baby-eating roommates to play along and behave or else they could easily freak the guy out too much for it to remain believable.
Either way, Drizzt is not staying in that castle beyond the point of another person (the baby) being put in danger. There's at least one point in the books where he's protecting a baby while fighting some enemies and he always puts the baby's safety first. Also Guen can respawn, so if it's absolutely necessary to, she can get taken to 0 HP distracting the vampires while Drizzt improvises some way to get out of there with the baby intact.
That's as far as "survive Castle Dracula" usually goes because well he got out of the castle alive but now I am also thinking about possible plot beyond that point...
First of all the villagers?? Assuming they saw him as Really Weird Foreigner or perhaps some sort of fair folk rather than Literal Demon Spawn the worst they'd do is probably be very tense and silent after taking the baby back and let him leave uncontested without welcoming him in. Best case scenario is some or all of them, or at least the baby's mother, being grateful enough to help him out a little. But like what's he gonna Do after that? (Also if the villagers think he's some sort of fey guy then would they think there's something up with the baby now...)
I mean he knows there's baby-eating vampires in that castle now and he's very against the idea of leaving baby-eating vampires around. Even if he can't 2v4 all of them plus their minions he'd wanna do something about that. (2v4 rather than 1v4 because Guen counts as one) Would he try to gather allies to assault the castle? If he learned that there's times when he can expect them all to be asleep in their coffins would he try to just go back in and stab them in their coffin-sleep? Would he leave the area if he knows the local people are still in danger or would he reason that he needs to find help and come back?
(Also raising to myself the question of whether this is "specifically only Drizzt has been isekai'd into the novel Dracula" or if there's perhaps a little more crossover type setting blending, or if others from the Realms are in there, is Elminster around I know he's canonically been to Real Life Earth, would Van Helsing have some kind of tangent about how this has allegedly happened before, there's an implication that vampires aren't even Van Helsing's favorite cryptid what if d&d type elves are actually higher on that list and he knows all about them, is it even possible to put something resembling the plot and characters of Dracula into a D&D setting, what if I could make a Domain of Dread out of this–)
No matter what happened, Drizzt would be writing SO many diary entries which is perhaps the true main reason why he would survive, he's got that journaling and diary-keeping swag just like my good friend Jonathan Harker
(This is all assuming he has Guen because if he didn't have Guen he would wilt away of the Miseries. Might un-wilt specifically to save the baby and then re-wilt as soon as he remembered there's no kitty.)

This is just my opinion btw, it could be a horrible stance to take idk lemme know if it is
Okay so I understand that some celebrities are in certain positions and have contracts with certain company so they can't talk about the stuff with Palestine or they lose their jobs. That's fucked up as hell but in this economy I understand (and that's also another conversation for another time how certain companies won't let their employees talk about a literal genocide openly or they lose their jobs. Like wtf) BUT then those celebrities shouldn't say anything at all. Because if they do say something about the situation they're gonna say something like how they're neutral or even vaguely or directly say that they support Israel's actions.
And news flash, even taking a neutral stance on this whole thing is less helpful than just staying silent. If you can't talk about it, don't talk about it. Don't say anything. Keep your mouth shut. There are just some situations where if you can't say anything, then DON'T SAY ANYTHING. Because trust me, there are plenty of other people who will scream about this situation until they lose their voice. Will make content about it until that's all they're known for. My whole point is that we can't rely on celebrities and well-known people in this situation to talk about this. We shouldn't rely on them in these situations anymore. This post isn't "all celebrities bad" cause I straight up don't think that's true. This post also isn't "give celebrities a break" because I don't care. This post is that anyone who CAN talk about this horrific genocide should be! As much as they can! Even if you just make posts about it that's better than nothing!
I've seen a lot of people rely on well-known public figures to do something about this, but they either CAN'T or WON'T. So it's up to us. The kids and adults and senior citizens on the internet with silly little accounts on silly little apps. And we've already started and have been doing a great job! Go onto any app and look up "Palestine" and you will see THOUSANDS of videos or posts from well-informed adults educating people on the history on this situation to 5 year olds attending protests with a sign in their hands and a watermelon painted on their faces. We can't rely on celebrities anymore. And a lot of us can't even rely on our governments anymore! So it's up to us. Just because you don't have a million followers or haven't starred in a Netflix show doesn't mean you don't have a voice! It doesn't mean you can't do something! Speak up! Donate! Boycott! Go to protests! Make posters and hang them around your neighborhood or something! Make art! Even if you can't do much, which is totally fine btw, do whatever you can! Because you CAN do something. We can't rely on public figures to be our voice anymore, we have to be our own voice.
Like yes, there's a lot of history of completely normal people standing up against injustice but I'm talking about today. How people are relying on public figures and celebrities today. Let's not do that anymore and let's do something ourselves. And almost everyone has a phone nowadays and almost everyone has access to social media. If you're reading this, you probably have access to social media. Use that to your advantage. We've got this guys! We can do this! I know we can! I believe in us.
Side note but if there are celebrities that are taking a neutral stance on this or even openly supporting Israel, as long as they aren't actively causing harm or spreading misinformation about Palestine, then don't focus on them. Don't waste your energy. Stop supporting them, talk about it once, twice, maybe even three times, and then leave them alone and focus on the active genocide going on in Palestine. Those celebrities aren't worth your time, the people in Palestine are. We can't let this genocide just happen right in front of us.
This all also applies to the situations going on in Congo, Sudan, and Haiti. But I'm just specifically talking about Palestine cause that's what this applies to the most. I'll talk about Congo, Sudan, and Haiti as well soon.

So what are you unpopular opinions about your fic "the holy ground"
I'm re-reading it , you have a great sense of humour really really, I love it
Hi, dear! How are you? First of all, thank you so much for stopping by and for revisiting HG!
Hmm... unpopular opinions? Can an author have unpopular opinions about her own work? Haha. Anyways, I guess I have a certain point of view on a few relationships that might not be everybody's take on it.
Firstly, and I dare to think this is the one I've talked about the most, for me— and I repeat, for me— Twiggy (or MC, the reader, or Y/N) was also disloyal to Erwin. What she did with Levi during winter break could be considered infidelity. This is more of a personal take on what an individual considers "infidelity" or "not" in a relationship. I personally believe that a relationship stands until both parties involved are aware of the "end" of that relationship. Maybe they were not on the best terms, but implying that you're very angry with your partner, as Twiggy did to Erwin, doesn't necessarily mean it's over. Maybe the other person doesn't know it's over for real, and therefore, for Erwin, the relationship finished when she came back from winter break. Also, this is a personal take, but I believe that just because someone did something horrible or wrong to you in multiple situations in life, that's not a free pass to do the same or something wrong too. Two wrongs don't make a right, so to speak. So, at least for me morally, just because Erwin was disloyal doesn't give Twiggy a green light to be disloyal too. Because, if that's the case, then the only limit stopping you from not cheating is simply not being the first one to commit infidelity?
Probably my other unpopular opinion is that Nanaba was kinda right, lmao. I mean, if I had a friend who is a little bit naive, has some issues romanticizing certain aspects of her life that she shouldn't, just came out of a very hurtful experience, and decides to, in less than two months, get into a new relationship with a dude I know absolutely nothing about... I would also think he's taking advantage of her, lmao. Plus, Nanaba may not be "right" all the time, but if a cheerful friend suddenly doesn't spend time with us anymore, disappears, does things she usually wouldn't do... I'd also think this "new guy" is manipulating her and isolating her to hold the last word in everything. It's a very common symptom of dating a manipulator when you isolate yourself; the manipulator needs to hold the one and only version of the story. Of course, we, as readers, know that Levi isn't like that or hurting Twiggy, but Nanaba doesn't know that.
Third, Twiggy has serious communication issues, and one reason her relationship with Erwin didn't work out is because of this. Of course, a lot of things were wrong in that relationship, but Twiggy didn't help, and also, most of the issues she had with Levi as a couple are... the same ones she had with Erwin, lmao. Expecting someone to read your mind isn't very healthy relationship advice. She told Erwin "Go, I don't mind it" and then was offended that he did exactly that, lmao. Erwin asked a million times about the team, and she lied about it a million and one times. She never told Erwin about having asthma and obviously struggling with it. Instead of telling him that hanging out with his friends made her insecure because Marie would be there, she held the struggle for like six months and brought it up many months later. She never confessed to suffering. Not trying to play devil's advocate, but setting aside Erwin's infidelity, the dude probably thinks, "Everything was somehow okay until now; those months were the worst months of her life. How was I supposed to know if she didn't tell me? I don't read minds!" There's a very subtle fact that I like, and that is Erwin mentions multiple times that he's into girls with "long hair," Marie has long hair. He mentions it in a spin-off and, also when he and Twiggy are alone at the office; he unties her hair and plays with it. Erwin wanting her to look "older" and "short hair" was something that Twiggy invented in her head, lmao, nobody told her that, those were her own insecurities talking, not Erwin's tastes.
Finally, Levi is also a man of that "society," and he has a lot of toxic traits, haha. He's a sunshine, but he's not perfect. For example, he can be very possessive and controlling. Obviously, considering the options of that period of time, he's Mr. Woke and open-minded, and he's a great option. But that doesn't take away the rest... we forgive him, though, because Levi is Levi, lmao.
I think that's it! Sorry for the rambling! Hope this was okay! Feel free to let me know YOUR unpopular opinions, lol. Thank you so much for saying that you enjoy my sense of humor! Delivered to you from the "south," haha. Argentinian humor is acid, sassy, and eloquent, I dare to say.
Have a lovely day and take care of yourself! Lots of love!

Honestly the constant discourse about Kyman, as someone who ships it, is kinda making me want to distance myself from what used to be my OTP. People speaking ill of Kyman shippers is working on me and starting to make me worry that I'm doing something wrong by shipping it. I shouldn't care about what ppl on the internet think and I usually don't but constantly being told that I'm "supporting" something thats "abusive" or problematic is getting to me. Like dammit, I didn't even know about the discourse when I got into Kyman; I got into it by watching the show itself and it was my first SP ship but honestly if I knew that people gave a shit about it in the SP fandom I probably wouldn't have bothered. It'll always have a place in my heart but I'm getting tired of this shit 😔 Im extra emotional rn so Im not being rational here and you dont have to publish this. I know fandom shouldn't have that affect on me I'll get over it after Style vs. Kyman fight 2192943290 blows over. Idk if you're comfortable with vents sorry if I crossed a boundary here.
Oh, anon. It never used to be like this.
Fandom discourse these days is insane. Unhinged, even. The idea that anyone is more morally correct than someone else for what they ship and enjoy in fiction is absolutely ludicrous. Especially within the context of shipping fucking South Park characters.
The hard truth is that every fandom is like this now. You don't have shipping wars just arguing over what makes more sense 'in canon', but moving on to an ever-changing line of what is and isn't 'morally acceptable.' As if that's ever something the majority of people would ever agree on. (Hint: it's not!)
But there is a certain irony to see people arguing this for South Park of all things, as if we aren't all equally degenerate for enjoying such a 'problematic' show in the first place. Like... seriously. Be so serious, people. It's South Park. Everything is exaggerated for comedic effect-- including character's personalities, their actions and their relationships to one another. It's never going to be a character driven show no matter how much this fandom sometimes wishes it was. We're going to have characters who don't give a fuck about each other, literally wishing death or plotting to kill each other in one episode and then they're just going to be chilling playing video games in the next episode like nothing happened. It's episodic. That's part of the appeal. It's why it's such a sandbox.
Even if you didn't ship Kyman, their dynamic is impossible to ignore, try as some might. They say they hate each other, yet they keep hanging out. Both parties are there of their own volition. They both enjoy each other's company, and no amount of write-up's anyone can post on tumblr dot com is going to change that canon fact. They're friends.
Also-- they are just plain fun to watch, fucking hilarious and a huge appeal of the show! If someone else who watches the show doesn't like them, that's their problem. Them not liking an aspect of the show isn't going to make that part of the show any less valid and/or canon. And guess what? You're supposed to like their dynamic. It's supposed to be entertaining and captivating. How you interpret it is up to you, but there is 100% nothing wrong with watching an episode of South Park and enjoying Eric and Kyle's dynamic-- that is what you're supposed to do. So don't feel bad about it. The show is made for people to enjoy, after all. Also, it's important to keep in mind that just because you can find a dynamic appealing doesn't mean you endorse everything about it. That's such a wild and new-age fandom take. Fiction is an escape-- a safe space to explore unrealistic relationships and unrealistic characters. You're allowed to like fucked up things in fiction. You're allowed to like stuff in fiction you'd find repulsive or abhorrent in real life.
I think I can speak for a good chunk of the fandom when I say, I'd fucking hate Eric Cartman in real life. Hell, I'd probably hate Kyle, too. I have a lot of favourite characters from different fandoms I'd probably hate in real life. They're fun because they're fictional and it's different from real life. If I wanted to read about stuff that happens in real life, I wouldn't be here.
In the end, anon, fandom is supposed to be fun. To me it's just fun to take these silly little egg construction paper kids, draw 'em as anime characters, and give 'em some angst. It's fun! There's so much to do with them! They're soooo dynamic!
But if you're not having fun-- if you're stressing-- there's nothing wrong with taking a step back for your own mental well-being. I'm not about to tell you your feelings are invalid, because I know how any internet discourse, no matter how trivial or silly it may seem, can still stress you out. If you're constantly being told you're morally corrupt or problematic, it can take a toll on you-- even if you know you're not. The truth is you're never going to agree with everyone on the internet, and people will weaponize something as trivial as a South Park ship to make them feel better about their ship while also making you feel worse about your ship.
Anyways, when it comes to stepping back, I think there's a few ways you could go about this;
You could disengage with the social part of the fandom-- focus on the show itself, maybe just hunker down with some fanfics.
If you'd like to remain active on social medias, I think it wouldn't hurt to start blocking liberally. Anyone who has anything along the lines of 'Kymans DNI' in their profile, just block right away. You don't want to see their opinion, anyways. You're never going to convince them otherwise.
If you have a few close friends, I recommend sticking close in a small private discord server where you can discuss your headcanons and gossip in private. It's much more liberating than trying to get involved in any of the insane discourse that plagues both here and Twitter.
Anyways, anon, do what's right for you. Kyman shippers will always be here to welcome you back! They can say what they want-- we have too much canon fodder for us to ever go away!!

What letting the internet raise your kids do to them...
(Before we start, I just wanna preface this by saying that this is mostly a vent on how me and my lil brothers' life could've been so much better if my parents actually parented us) (Also, please do not take this as pure fact, this is just a vent about me and my little brother, and me trying to warn parents/people who are about to/want to become parents about bad parenting methods and how it could possibly harm their child in the long run)
When you let your kid watch youtube on your phone, you'll probably think, 'Oh, my kid's probably gonna be fine', when in fact, your kid has the potential to run into less than digestible content. Whether that be content made for adults or disguised as kids content, it's almost inevitable that your child runs into content that will mess with their little minds. Even if you don't see it, it's a possibility that your kid is pretty secretive about the type of content they watch, although this does not make them the problem. The problem is that you, and many other parents have fallen into the trap of letting the internet raise your child.
Now, 'what is the harm of letting your kid on the internet? Isn't it just a good way to make your kid leave you alone?' Well, the harm of letting your kids on the internet (especially at an age 10) is that of the possibility of your kids running into undigestible content, some that are made with adults in mind, and most made with kids in mind. Not only that, but using the internet as a way to get your child to leave you alone could possibly get your child to believe that you, their parent, don't care about them. One other thing, if you're letting your child be raised by the internet, then you're risking the only dopamine that your child experiences to be on a screen, which means you shouldn't really be shocked when your child doesn't wanna go outside like the other kids, or nowadays, just like the other kids.
'Well, how could you know about the side effects of "raising your kid on the internet" if you yourself are a kid?' Well, I can preach for the normalization of actually raising your kids properly because of the fact that I was raised just like this, and my little brother is currently being raised like this.
When I was about 6 years old, I got my first electronic device. From all I remember, I used that electronic device throughout my whole life. I also specifically remember using YouTube kids, an app that has videos, just like on YouTube, except that the videos were actually verified to be 'for kids'. For the most part, I watched all the same gaming videos, but when I didn't, it was bad. I when I got YouTube kids, the hight of this type of video cleverly titled Elsagate was on the rise. For those who don't know, Elsagate was a category of videos that seemed to be for children, but actually have lots of adult themes in the actual videos themselves, and most of the time, on the thumbnail of said videos. So as you might have guessed, I used to watch some Elsagate content that somehow got through the supposed 'verification system', because if you don't know, YouTube kids was made as a way for kids on the internet to get child friendly content. Although it seems that the system didn't work because I remember many times where I watched some undigestible content, where the themes were usually needles, explicit bathroom humor, gore, and pregnancy. Although I personally didn't seek out this content, the content of Elsagate that I did find has certainly made some affects on my brain, even making me develop certain interests that I do not wanna speak of at this moment.
Now for my little brother, he's still much too young to understand what he's consuming/possibly consuming, and what effects it could have on his brain. Although I do not know what exactly he's watching, I do know that there is always a possibility of him watching new age Elsagate or anything much worse.
Now, 'If we shouldn't give our child access to the internet, what age would be appropriate to give your child access to the internet?' Well, it really depends on how mature your kid is, but for most kids, I'd say that the age of 13 with parental controls is an appropriate age to let your kid access to the internet because of the fact that your kid should have a good amount of knowledge between right and wrong, but parental controls should always be used when first giving your child access to the internet because there's still a risk of going down a rabbit hole of consuming content not appropriate for their ages'. Once your kid has shown responsibility involving internet use, you can tone down the parental controls, or even remove then all together depending on your childs' consistent behavior and age.
Taking all of these facts to consideration, and the fact that the internet could be liberating at most. It is not a bad thing if your child at an appropriate age has access to the internet, but it becomes a big problem once a kid not even the age of a teenager has access to the internet, especially without heavy parental controls. Be sure to appropriately parent your child, even if you like the idea of them to be able to parent themselves, it's almost never the best idea.
Parent your children

Boy, I'm really on a ball with these reviews!
Detective Conan Movie 9: Strategy Above the Depths is, summed up, a movie that probably could've been made into 2 1-Hour episodes.
But the good part is, I would've made for a fairly interesting and somewhat enjoyable 2 part special if it had.
I don't want to tear this movie apart because it really is not a bad watch and I would actually say to still go in and give it a chance because if nothing else, there's some good parts to it. And, who knows? Maybe you'll love it more than me.
Being a big ShinRan shipper, there were more adorable moments. I liked that it explored on the fact Ran is a good hider when it comes to hide and seek and Shinichi is the only one that can find her. That was pretty dang adorable.
Kogoro actually fucking having a really good moment of solving a case was really a nice thing to see too. I know he's supposed to be a bit of incompetent for the sake of Conan/Shinichi solving the cases, but I don't know, like, I was really happy for Kogoro to kinda get the spotlight and put the whole thing together. Good for him, honestly.
But then we had to get that classic 90's/early 2000's "I don't hit girls" and I...I get it, I guess I do see Kogoro as the type that wouldn't want to hurt women, but it also just kind of bothered me. I get it, the character is supposed to be chivalrous, but damn, as a woman growing up on anime since she was a kid, this does get a little old and tired. I didn't really feel much satisfaction from Kogoro getting punched around either.
Really, they would have done so much better if they just had continued using the likeness of the lady to Eri and him being like, "Well, I don't really want to hurt someone who looks like the woman I love." THAT I can understand and I feel like has more impact, but you know, it's a small thing I shouldn't spend much time grouching about.
Uh, other than that, I think they were...sort of going for a twist murderer ending? I mean, I guess it was a tad surprising, but also I don't know. Feels a bit weird to have the main antagonist have a lot of the attention drawn on him and in the end it's someone else right about at the very last second? It's just...very odd. But it did kind of make sense too, to be fair. I mean, the clues were still there, after all
I feel like the last half hour of the movie or so was really interesting, but also felt like the writers were kind of bsing it a bit as well.
One final note, this movie makes me laugh because I can't help but think they were going for a sort of "Titanic, but Detective Conan!" The end credits of the girl throwing the necklace into the sea feel like they even confirm this a bit, but it's very obviously a VERY loose adaption. Still amusing, all the same.
I love how this is the most I've rambled about a movie and yet I'm gonna end up rating it so low. I guess when I really like something, I have less to say, but maybe that's just because I figure it can speak for itself? I have no idea. Anyway, moving on!
1.) The Fourteenth Target (2nd Movie)
2.) The Time Bombed Skyscraper (1st Movie)
3.) Magician of the Silver Sky (8th Movie)
4.) Captured in Her Eyes (4th Movie)
5.) Crossroad in the Ancient Capital (7th Movie)
6.) The Phantom of Baker Street (6th Movie)
7.) Countdown to Heaven (5th Movie)
8.) Strategy Above the Depths (9th Movie)
9.) The Wizard of the Last Century (3rd Movie)
I really do feel bad for Wizard of the Last Century, this movie still beat it out due to it being a bit more memorable for me, personally. For the time being.
It's going to be funny going back to these in the future and having drastically different opinions on these (if I do).
I feel like the issue is also going to be that some movie plots are going to feel similar to certain episodes I've seen and that's going to cause some confusion on my end. Guess that's bound to happen though when a series has been running so long, has over 1000 episodes and...I can't remember...are they up to around 30 movies now? Might be more like in the 20s. I don't recall.

it didn’t take a genius to understand that she meant more than what the ad was selling, which was ultimately this idea of a nuclear family enjoying their meals. the food was far from her focus & her words pretty much confirmed that as she spoke, even if they were mumbled. he’d glance in her direction but give her some space nonetheless ; allowing her to pour out her tears before she was able to face him once more. despite their distance, a hand was placed over her lower back, as if reminding her that he was here still, offering his support.
“it’s better to be alone than in bad company. you deserve more than that.” han dared to speak, even if she was more-so, talking to herself out loud. he’d offer her a smile as his hand moved up & down, caressing her back. “your path is your own… not even god has a say on that. otherwise, we would not have free will.” if they were destined to a certain future, then there was no liberty—just them wandering in that direction with the faux idea that they had a choice in it. he wasn’t religious himself, but could understand the comfort that some people sought in it as if it would hold the answer to things that tormented them.
his hand slid all the way up to her back, just underneath her neck. his tone was far more playful now, as his expression. “do you want me to give you one?” han asks, curious of her answer. “a burger?”
Tumblr media
She flinched slightly upon feeling his hand, but more out of surprise than displeasure. It felt good... to be reminded that she was not completely alone, at least not here now. His hand felt so nice, she knew exactly how it looks, and how strong he could be and how his veins would show through his skin, just pure power.
"... as long as he loves me, ... it shouldn't be overly bad," she mumbled, sometimes forgetting that she did not just want a family, but actually a happy one too, but at this point, any imperfections seemed almost welcomed. Though the reality would probably show her otherwise, she was just desperate. "I know, but maybe he doesn't want me to get kids, just focus on my work and help the people." Which in itself was quite honorable, though even there she was not completely perfect. There was no real community for her, just like for Han, though he had found his family with his people. Futaba always felt like an odd outsider if she was honest.
"Huh?" Futaba became completely red at his question. "You are, you are not my type, sorry Han." She waved him off, becoming almost hysteric in this moment, while her cheeks reddened only more, finding all sort of excuses. "There's your work, ... your hair, I mean ... also you are kinda small, ... what would the people think." Awkward laughter escaping her, as she spoke nonstop till Han revealed that he was actually talking about the food. "Oh, ah..." She had to turn around. Between all her excuses, of course her mind had slipped into that fantasy for a moment, the making of a baby sure was a nice one. Futaba had to cover her face, running her hands over it in the hope to remove any further embarrassment but also stop thinking about this odd scenario of seriously having a family with Han. He was so handsome, and sweet, but in the end he was still a mafia boss, but also someone she barely knew. "A burger would be nice," she mumbled quietly.
There was a short break. "Where do I find the men, who are like you." Just less in his kind of business. It was so frustrating, his sweetness.

A crosspost from Facebook.
I often think about sharing certain things with certain family members involving certain traumas, I'm not sure why, but I go back and think about it for a bit and like. Maybe it's better that I'm hesitant to share those things even with my family. I fear what they would think of me, even if they never say it out loud. It's not even like that bad, I think? Just the stigma over the types of things I experience because of trauma would have certain kinds of people think less of me, think I'm somehow demonic or something like that. Think that I'm being punished for things I never did or asked for, or just for not being pious enough.
There are so many things I want to tell my family, or ask of them about any traumas they'd be willing to share, but all of us tend to stay silent, cause that's just how we were taught. Never speak of certain things outside the family, which meant even with a counselor or therapist. Our family is strong! Translated as never cry about stupid things and never admit when you're wrong. Subtle micro-judgements aimed at strangers on tv that would be reflected on my own body or ability or intelligence. Having no one to reach out to when the traumas of your parents cause them to lash out in ways that cause YOU severe trauma and just continues the cycle.
As much as I was also told I shouldn't care what other ppl think of me, we all know that we want the ppl we love most to never have a bad thought about us.
Every person ever wants to be accepted and praised by people they care about and dread being scolded or abandoned or neglected or anything of the sort by those same people. And I know the cultural and religious background that most of the people I grew up with largely sees me as wrong. Whether or not the individual family members think the same in the deepest crevices of their minds is probably something I'll never know for sure, and that's the part that scares me.
I'm transgender. That means I'm an abomination. That I desecrated my own body to defy god cause god doesn't make mistakes, tho I never accused him of doing so.
I'm gay. A huge sin. Or I'm pretending, cause I can't be a man so if I love men it's cause I'm a "straight woman", erasing my entire identity all at once.
I'm disabled. Either lazy or being punished or didn't pray enough.
I'm mentally ill in such a way that most Christian beliefs that I know of will say I'm possessed or demonic.
Interests I've had my entire life would be deemed "of the devil". Since even thoughts can be evil sins, the fact that mine can be graphically intrusive makes me evil I guess. My current reaction to anything based in Christian evangelism is visceral sorrow, unwarranted guilt, and fear not of any kind of divine wrath but of being abandoned. I've been thoroughly traumatized by the very religion that the people I love say I should work harder in.
I'm not a Christian. I hate the label. I'm a nonbinary trans feminine man, a pro-choice anti-gun socialist commie married to a polyamorous transgender woman who allowed me the time to find myself and grow as a person and provided a space to sit and recognize and start to heal from all the traumas caused by family and religion and the fucked up medical system we've all been forced to deal with and alcoholism and explosive destructive anger and bullying and isolation and suicidal ideation and just so so so so so much fear and anxiety and ptsd and dissociating...
A whole lot of rambling just to say I guess it's fine not to share everything with everyone. Even when everything in your whole entire body and soul wants to scream it out just to get even a modicum of recognition of pain caused or any indication of remorse or regret or closure in any capacity. Some of these things have to be healed in slow agonizing silence.

Hi, it is me again. If boundaries are so important to you, please also respect that I prefer to remain anonymous. Thank you
Oh believe me, I wasn't expecting you to be polite in any way, so don't worry
1. You see, you address the problem by the name. Lin shouldn't have done any of this in the first place. You can't expect respect, if you don't meet the person at eye level. So, to a certain extent, Lin kinda deserved what happened to her. Forgiveness is always the first step, certainly not everyone deserves it, but in this case I don't see why not. You say I'm downplaying it, but actually you're all exaggerating so much. I mean, Su could have let Tenzin out of there, but is she wrong though? Lin is so bitter that she pushes everyone away, which ultimately ruined her relationship with Tenzin
2. Su is not really irresponsible, as she has changed over the time. She tried to reconcile with Lin, so she has put more work into the relationship than her sister. Lin shouldn't be angry with Su though. In a perfect episode, I think Lin should have apologized for abandoning her own little sister. After all, Su still loved her in spite of everything and that should be enough
3. Nobody talks about a suicide pact, my point is that family should be the ones, who stick with you, who love you unconditionally, Lin had such a person with Su and still ignored her for 30 fucking years! Su is neither toxic nor abusive, she made mistakes, but she also had to atone for them, for a long time. It is just sad and heartbreaking
Of course robbery is wrong and Su is not poor either, so as I said, it would have been no problem to let her return the stuff. Lin should never put her job above her own little sister, she was 16, felt ignored, hurt and confused by her mother, Lin of all people, should understand that and stick to her instead of trying to bring her behind bars, for fuck sake. Then Su is separated from her mother and sister and was probably quite lonely until she met Bataar. She didn't deserved this
5. But they are only scars! If Lin had really loved Su, at some point she would have said that she knew that Su didn't do this on purpose and that she loved her in spite of everything, but she didn't. Also, you can't compare Su to fucking Ozai, who burned his own son's face out of sheer hatred. He has also done a lot more to Zuko than just a scar. So no, Zuko wouldn't say that
6. Pity party? How dare Su tell Korra, how sad she is that Lin won't have anything to do with her, after she asked? Su is not a manipulative master mind, she just opened up to another person at that moment. Oh, when Lin apologizes, is it suddenly sincere? All right
7. In a way, you can say that, yes. Why would she do this for selfless reasons, that makes no sense. I would say you hit the nail on the head, Lin actually seems to me like someone, who feels expendable and has a lot of self-hatred in her, that's why she constantly tries to put herself in danger with suicidal actions
Lin was happier, her smile as she took Su's hand speaks volumes. Why should she be happier alone, when she has her family back? She should cry with joy, because now she has the opportunity to make things right again
If parents fail, at least siblings should stick together. Fighting for attention wasn't the right way, it could have been the two against the world, but since Lin acted like Su's mother, she pushed her sister away and later abandoned her. Why is Lin allowed to be the good guy in this story? Why is Su held responsible for so much? Toph failed her daughters, but Lin has failed Su too. It makes me so sad to see how Su is portrayed as a bad person, when so much shit has happened to her. It is incomprehensible to me
I was taught from an early age that family must always stick together, that blood is always thicker than water, that even 100 friends are worth less than your family. Even when there are tough times, even when you get hurt, it doesn't matter
Lin didn't love Su enough to forgive her, to let her back into her life without letting 30 years go by, and at that point I just feel for Su
Your justifications for Suyin's horrid behavior reminds me a lot of this:
Tumblr media
Now, I'm not going to address every single point because a lot of it is revisionist history and sounds like an alternate version of TLOK where no one treated Lin badly. A couple points:
1) How respectful is it to inflict your presence on someone who didn't want to see you? Lin didn't even want Suyin to know she was in the same god-damned city as her much less have dinner. Suyin wanted forgiveness because she wanted to feel better, not because she felt bad or felt Lin deserved a sincere apology.
2)Suyin is hella irresponsible. I've outlined why and if what I've heard about season 4 is true I'm going to have even more examples of how Suyin breaks things and brushes off the consequences. Pro tip: Responsible people don't send teenagers out into a city to help them settle a score when one of them has a huge target on her back.
3)Unconditional love doesn't mean love without boundaries. So if a family member scars your face, tries to blame you for it, and then years later downplays it by saying they weren't a "perfect kid" than that is an excellent reason to want them to lose your number. Forever.
4)She didn't take a candy bar from a grocery store without paying for it. It was a robbery. Suyin needed to face some consequences. And for goodness sake she got sent to live with her rich grandparents. Sure they screwed up with Toph but you make Suyin's life sound like Les Miserables.
5)Full stop. They're not just scars. If you don't get how physically and emotionally painful it'd be to be scarred by your sibling and then have to lie about it for years after your mom covered for them then you've got a major empathy problem.
6)Telling only one side of the story of an estrangement you are responsible for is manipulative and really suspect. Honest people don't screw their loved ones over and then talk about how sad it makes them that they don't want to deal with them without providing the full context. I've said it before but clearly I need to say it again: Suyin just found Lin's anger inconvenient.
Blaming Lin for the break-up with Tenzin is rooted in misogyny. She's not a "selfish" monster for not wanting children. It honestly would've been unfair to everyone involved if she'd had kids she never wanted. In fact dropping Lin the second some pretty, young thing confessed her feelings for him makes Tenzin seem fickle to say the least.
Finally people have more compassion for Lin because over and over again she's hurt by people she loved and is told to get over it. Even when they don't appreciate her, she puts her feelings aside to help them.
And a sister who scars you, throws a painful break-up in your face, refused to respect your boundaries, and undermines your authority is not someone worth having in your life.
Look dude. This is the third message like this you've sent to me and guess what? I still think Suyin Beifong is trash. No matter how you try to white-wash Suyin being a garbage person I will continue believing Suyin is trash. With a sister like that who needs enemies.
“I don't believe an accident of birth makes people sisters or brothers. It makes them siblings, gives them mutuality of parentage. Sisterhood and brotherhood is a condition people have to work at.”

Okie Ray, I finished my 2,420 (haha 420...sorry) words in total story hehe. I’ll give you them in parts because it’s a lot lol, but here’s the first part which is mainly/only Karl x Reader and like mentions of x Sap lol idk how to describe things. Enjoy! ~Punzo👻
Being a part of the beast crew was one of the best parts of my life. I may have been one of the only girls that went on camera, but that was fine. Often the girls only filmed for the challenges with a bunch of people, but I was there almost every video, no matter how many people were required. One of my favorite parts of being in the beast crew besides all the opportunities and fun was the people. I loved almost all of them like brothers, the exception being Karl and only because I had caught feelings for him. Which was why it was weird when every smile from his friend Nick sent my stomach stirring.
It was hard to not let out a breath of relief or a whine of sadness when he turned his head. His attention made me nervous but at the same time, I wanted all of it. Karl pulled me from my thoughts with a hug from behind, though, and I smiled, leaning into him. We were currently not a part of the filming so we just watched from the sidelines. It was relatively rare to catch a break during filming, so I was glad this video allowed for it. Blushing on camera was one of my least favorite things to do, it had been so long since I had.
“What do you think of Nick? Do you like him?" Karl had spoken the words into my hair and I let out a chuckle, bringing my hands up to wrap around his forearms. I nodded as I let my eyes move from Jimmy to Nick again.
“Of course I do, he's lovely." A small blush lit my face and Karl giggled as he pressed his cheek to mine to feel it. He had a habit of doing that whenever I blushed, it was like he was trying to absorb my embarrassment. I reached my hand up to blindly ruffle his hair to distract him. "I like how he treats you, and how he treats me."
“Me too." Karl moved his head down until it was buried in my shoulder and then unwrapped his arms from my shoulders only to rewrap them around my waist. I closed my eyes and leaned my head slightly on his. I knew that it was a weird relationship to have with a friend, but when you've both got touch as a love language and at least one of you is partially touch starved, it made sense. There was also the part of me that hoped it was supposed to mean more than that, but I would happily take all the affection whether it was friendly or romantic. "Did you know he's bi?"
"Uh, no." My eyes had shot open and I knew I looked baffled, but I was beyond surprised at the suddenness of his words. Suddenly I realized why he had buried his face in my neck, he was blushing. I bit my lip as I thought over my next words, before gently wrapping my arms around his, to try and show him support. "Do you like him, ya know, like that?"
"Kind of, but I didn't know until he was here! Plus there's someone else I like so that makes it more confusing." I forced myself into friend mode, completely ignoring how the words would affect me and instead on Karl's feelings. I struggled to find out what to say and his arms wrapped tighter around me. I knew he was nervous, knew he needed reassurance so I took a breath in and spoke again."Well, that's okay, I actually like two people right now as well. I know it's confusing, and you might be feeling guilty or something, but you shouldn't. You're not hurting anyone with your feelings, you're simply feeling them." I rubbed his arm as I spoke, trying my hardest to poor my support for him in my words and actions. He seemed to collapse against me as he relaxed and I gently untensed as well, knowing he felt a little better. After a moment he nodded faintly, and then more certain as he pulled himself up. I smiled at his rebound of confidence and then what I thought of next, hoping it would cheer him up.
“Plus you never know, maybe they both like you and y'all can be in a poly relationship." We both giggled and he finally raised my face from my neck, resting it on my shoulder instead. I looked up, remembering we were in public and there was filming going on in front of us. I watched Nick's eyes quickly dart away from us and blush slightly coat his expression. "I would love to be in a poly relationship, you know. There's so much love to give and receive, and it's way less likely to be left alone. If both the people I liked had feelings for me I would suggest it so fast."
"Who do you like?" I sputtered, pulling away from Karl as a blush heated my face. I turned to look at him to find a cheeky smile on his face, and a giggle slipped out as I narrowed my eyes at him. When we both returned to our regular states he gave me a soft look. "No really, can I know?"
"Only if I don't have to look at you when I tell you." A smile twitched across his face and I knew it was because I had been honest, and he opened his arms. I rolled my eyes even as the sides of my lips curled up and spun so we would be in the same position as before. His arms surrounded different parts of my stomach and he hummed as he waited for me to speak, drumming his fingers along my sides. "Well, I'm the same as you with Nick, although I probably like him less than you do since you know him more... Um, the other person I have feelings for is you, but I also love you like a friend so if you don't feel the same, honestly just forget I said it. I would rather be your friend like always and pretend I never told you this and move on than have to stop being friends with you."
Instead of saying anything, Karl pulled his arms away from me, but before I could get upset he laced our hands together and started jogging away from the set. I furrowed my eyebrows but went with him nonetheless, my nerves killing me. He pulled me towards a door, opening it and finally stopping inside once he closed it. I wrapped my hands together but before I could question him he kissed me. My eyes close while my eyebrows shot up in shock, but I easily reciprocated, tangling my hands into his hair. When he pulled away I let my eyes open round, trying to show my shock through them alone. He let out a breathy giggle as he took in my face, and a smile slowly crept up onto mine the longer I looked at him.
"Of course I feel the same, you idiot. How could I not?" I let out a chuckle that I cut off as we both leaned forward again, kissing once more. When we pulled away I rested my forehead against his, eyes closed and a bright smile lighting my face. His hands that had fallen to my waist gently rubbed my sides and I hummed out in contentment.
PUNZO!!!! PUNZO THIS IS SO GOOD AND SO CUTE!!!! YOU DID AN AMAZING JOB WITH THIS!!!! I LOVE IT SO MUCH! VERY SOFT AND VERY CUTE!

I'll try to keep it short because you're very kind but I'm becoming annoying... I actually like Soichiro. It's his morals I cannot stand. In fact, in line with his, I like Matsuda's and even Light's variations more, even with all the darkness they entail, because they're more critical. I adore L and find him relatable, but I'm not so sure if I'd like him as a person in real life, and yet I again like his morals more than Soichiro's. I still think Soichiro is generally a better person than any of the others. I still dislike his morals the most. When I say at the opposite end of Soichiro in the moral spectrum is where Near stands I'm not talking just about my personal liking, but as I interpret their views on morality. Maybe there's some detail of the manga I'm forgetting (I truly have to reread it), but Soichiro didn't seem very critical about... anything, while Near states something like "even if god came and told me this is good and this is bad and this is The Truth I'd still consider and come to my own conclusion". I like that. I care less about someone getting a moral with what I may consider a degree of grey if they do that. I myself have very strong morals that nonetheless have degrees of grey; strong doesn't mean pure. My grey and someone else's grey might be very different. But I've developed them, not accepted them blindly. Near of course, Mello, L, and even Light and Matsuda do this, but Soichiro generally doesn't. And I dislike that greatly. In fact, I think I'd find him kind in real life, and likeable, but I'd not really like him because I can't really bring myself to like someone like that even when they're kind and compassionate and good. I'm already talking more than I intended but I'll try to point out what bothers me of his attitude.
Soichiro is very very anti Kira, but he's working for a government with the death penalty and he doesn't seem to consider that even for a moment. For him, that the government does it is justifiable but monstrous if a person does it. He doesn't really have a justification, it's just like that because it's as it is. He's very against L's methods, buy L uses people who were going to die anyway at the very moment he uses them either way because of the death penalty, because of the government. From a government pov, if the government were to do what L does, it'd be something terrible. From an individual pov? Not so much. It's ugly, but it's beyond himself whether that people die or not, and his decisions are easily justifiable from an individual pov: they're going to die irrevocably, that very day at that very time, and he is using what he can to solve a very complicated case that is taking many lives, and he even might use the moral support of "I'm giving the prisoners the chance of choosing, with the potential reward of lifelong imprisonment instead of death". And again, while a government doing that is terrible, it's not as terrible for a person. L is a private detective, an individual. People can be fallible. Governments shouldn't. What L does might be justifiable, if ugly, for a person, but it would be unforgivable for the government to do. But the government lies on L and it's L who takes the slander of the rest of the Task Force. And that's what Soichiro doesn't see, and that's what bugs me. Soichiro sides with the government and the laws no matter what, no matter if they're terrible and are actually the cause if indirectly of the terrible things L is able to do (I'd have to reread to be completely comfortable affirming this, but Soichiro's attitude towards the government reminds me a bit of Mikami and Misa to some extent).
Soichiro hates Kira, and hates and criticises L's methods and his ruthlessness, but doesn't even consider for one moment the problem is not L. The problem is not the 24 yo boy/man, the problem is his government, that has the dead penalty and actually let's a private detective carry on with the investigation and do as he pleases (and I'm not even taking into consideration how L's upbringing and the lowkey if fun exploitation he was subrmited to have most probably influenced if not determined the way he acts in these cases, because while it's intriguing it'd feel like justifying L out of pity, and either way Soichiro doesn't know that; but I mention this because L's entire past at Wammy's, like the other children's, is another very terrible move from governments and adults in responsibility positions). The problem is Interpol, the governments in general, blatantly saying L is ruthless but not even setting rules when working with him. And I think it would actually have been very easy to stop L doing those things. Just change the rules of the game, tell him beforehand there are a few things he can't do. It's a game after all. Of course L would still exploit the moral and legal vacuums of the rules as he pleased, as one does when playing anything, but the government wouldn't have given him totally free way.
I'm not sure if I'm explaining myself very well. Years ago in a class I talked about the difference between personal vengeance and the death penalty. I feel this is similar. A person is fallible. A government should be able to stand over licit murder. L manipulating people to prove a point is ugly. A government doing that or letting someone free way to do whatever is terrible. L does whatever, and as an individual is not so horrible as it is that the governments internationally actually let him do whatever even knowing beforehand without setting rules. Soichiro sees this and it doesn't even cross his mind for a moment to criticise the government he's working with. Also, he considers his morals the best, which makes sense in a first person pov (why support x morals if you don't think they're the best? I'm not critisising this), but he's very... imposing about them, while as I say not being precisely the most critical thinker. That Soichiro is like this, morally (I'm not even talking about the policeman aspect though that's so often talked about in the fandom), makes a lot of sense to how Light ends up being Kira, and with how Matsuda thinks and acts. And I find that very intriguing, but I can't stand Soichiro's simplistic morals and his better-than-you attitude even though he's a generally good person. That's why I dislike his morals the most (of course you don't have to agree!). I don't stand by Near's morals either, but I like his "god could come and tell me and still I'd doubt" attitude. It's what makes gods mad in basically every mythology, but I love that kind of thought process. I'm very much like that too.
I'm so sorry this is so long. I tried to cut, but I got the impression it'd make it even less clear or more difficult to understand. Or maybe the lack of clarity lies precisely on how repetitive and long this is. I'd like to think English not being my first language has to do with this, but honestly the problem is most probably just me. I hope I made the point understandable enough, though. And thanks for your patience. I really liked that post of Near someone sent as an opinion and how you replied! Very interesting takes on both ends.
Hi again! You have some very thought-provoking points about it all, and don't worry, your English is excellent.
I loved Near's stance about these things as well, and that's something that really bothered me when growing up about some authority figures and institutions being really totalitarian and silencing of doubts or stances they deemed too negative or incorrect to voice aloud. I value having freedom of choice and the ability to think critically about everything immensely. Maybe it's because I went to a very strict and sheltering and weird little school as a child that tried very hard to indoctrinate me with a specific worldview, and always shamed and silenced anyone who disagreed or questioned them or felt like an outsider or wanted to have a different point of view. I remember relating the most to Matsuda on the task force when I first watched the show as a teen, because he was always speaking up with his devil's advocate questions or confusions. The way Soichiro and the others usually yell and scold and shame him for this bothered me a lot, because I wanted them to discuss things openly so I could see all the different sides of the arguments more clearly. Actually, I think this is a pretty culturally similar thing between Japan and Canada (where I am from). There's a strong emphasis on doing what's best for the entire group instead of just yourself, and being too controversial or outspoken or individualistic about certain things is often taboo and frowned upon as a big social faux pas. It's possibly quite a bit stronger pressure toward obedience and conformity and politeness in Japan in certain ways as well, but I don't know for sure as I haven't lived there myself.
I think Soichiro had a bit of nuance and flexibility with his morals and his stances in various instances throughout the plot, and to me he seemingly tries hard to see things from other angles during complicated moments in what must be one of the most difficult situations he could possibly face as both a police chief and a parent. But it's true he never seemed to doubt that upholding the laws already in place and the way his government punishes the convicted were the "correct" ways society should function. I think this series would be a really interesting one to discuss in a class that talks about stuff like justice and the death penalty and law and ethics and such for how many of these things it touches on in an entertaining and thought-provoking way!

This isn't about the Russian-Algerian-Pakistani anon, as it's obvious they are not this type of person. So, as a Greek studying in the US I see certain Greek Americans irl and online being like "feta, souvlaki, YEE-ROS, OPA!" and that's their whole personality. And, to be honest, it feels off-putting to someone who lives in Greece, and I don't feel like I have much in common with them. (part 1)
Many diaspora Greeks attend Greek festivals, speak the language and do whatever they can to stay in touch with Ελληνισμός with whatever means they have. But as you said, some do... less than 5% "Greek stuff" and instead of accepting that they have been nearly fully Americanized they insist they participate in the culture a lot. And that's where my uneasy feeling comes in.
The last anon who said something along the lines of "who are you to tell them what ethnicity they are, this is going to hurt them", I get that, but at the same time we need to be honest with the immigrants who stereotype their family's old country or they insist they have that connection while they are just a US American who eats pastitsio sometimes. (I am not stereotyping all Greek Americans, I specifically mention folks who Are Actually Like This)
And I DO get that ancestry is a complicated thing when you struggle to find yourself and strike a cultural balance because my mother is an immigrant to Greece (but she didn't pass me her culture much) and their parent was also an immigrant to their old country and... it's complicated. But people shouldn't be overly sensitive when they are told that they have lost touch with the culture of their parents or grandparents if this is true.
I know that if I was to travel to my mother's country I would be like a tourist, and as much as it hurts, it is the absolute truth and why would I get mad at someone if they helped me realize that? Their statement would be as honest as my shock when I travel to that country and see for myself that I have very little in common with the locals.
Sorry for the ton of messages but I wanted to rant a bit..
________________________ end of ask ________________________
I formatted your text a bit for easier reading, lmk if this bothers you and I'll change it.
I kinda relate to your experience up to a degree because some culture(s) has been lost through the recent generations of my family due to immigration, genocide, wars, and poverty, and I will never know it (although I know it's there and I have some elements), and I don't "belong" there unless I make the effort to reinsert myself in them. Like, the culture was there and I could have been TAUGHT but the relatives chose not to for their own reasons and ooof...
And the culture my old relatives knew is not the same culture as it's now in these places, so even if I knew it I probably wouldn't be able to integrate myself there without trying a lot. I don't even know the basics one grandpa's village and I doubt that if I were to appear there people would be like "ooh yeah that person is 'ours' " And I don't feel them like "my people" either

Meant To Be || One For Every Billion
9. Stranger
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You put your phone away just in time to hear the melodic tone announce the train's arrival at Tokyo Station. Collecting your duffel and swinging it over your shoulder, you stand to exit, sad to be leaving but excited to head home and see all your familiar devils again.
The terminal is pretty busy so you're glad to have some sense of familiarity, certain you're headed the right way to the exit where Shin is supposed to meet you. You've only just entered the vast circular dome when you hear your cousin's voice call out your name, turning in pleasant surprise to see him making his way towards you.
"I thought you were going to wait outside?" You ask him as he reaches you, reaching out to take your bag from your shoulder.
He shrugs with a glance behind him, "Yeah, yeah, just didn't want you getting lost. It'd be a pain."
"Uh huh... Ren sent you in, didn't he?" You ask and his sheepish smile is answer enough.
His phone is beeping pretty incessantly, probably his brother, but it forces him him to walk in a crowded area without looking where he's going. This could end up in a pretty hilarious disaster for your album but you're pretty exhausted even though you've been sitting for the past few hours. Maybe you can let it go just this once, since you'd like to avoid time doing damage control when you could be enjoying a nice warm meal and a long soak in a tub instead.
You're about to link your arms with him to guide him through the stream of people when a sudden force knocks into you from behind, literally throwing you off your feet. You only just manage to catch yourself before you completely face plant on the floor, an indignant, "Hey!" slipping from your mouth before you even look up.
When you do however, it's to meet the wide, golden eyes of a boy that's apologizing profusely, now sprawled on the floor as well, you're guessing from running right into, and subsequently tripping over, you. You're about to give him a piece of your mind for not watching where he's going, especially while running as fast as he had to have been, but he's up in a flash, dragging you to stand upright with him without even an offer of help first or another word from you. Then he's off again, rushing away while still throwing useless, fading apologies over his shoulder.
Is this karma for wanting something similar to happen to Shin? And just when you were about to do the right thing too. Great. You watch the strange boy's form get further for a moment, white-grey hair streaked black at the roots the last thing you see before he's swallowed up by the crowd. Well, here's to hoping he doesn't bowl over another unsuspecting victim, but that's their problem now. You turn back to Shin as you brush off the knees of your leggings only to notice his phone is up and aimed squarely on you even as he's doubled over with laughter.
You're considering if there's a word for killing one's cousin - parricide? - when a light tap on your shoulder pulls you away from your creatively dark thoughts. This time the gaze you meet is filled with mirth, at least as much as you can tell, since the girl's eyes are mostly unreadable behind a pair of top-rimmed glasses and the elegant fall of her blonde locks shading part of her face, effectively hiding her full expression.
"Hey! I saw what happened and felt like I should apologize for Bo."
"Bo?" You ask in confusion.
She smirks and now you're definitely sure she's amused as she tilts her head to study you, "Yeah the adorable dumbass that just ran you over. I swear he's never usually that rude, just an unfortunate combination of enthusiastic and slightly oblivious."
"Oh, okay.. I mean, thank you but you shouldn't have to be the one to apologize for him. He kind of did anyways, I guess." You say the last with an unhappy twist to your lips.
"Sure but really, he's not usually rude like that, he just panicked when he realized he forgot his bag."
Before you have a chance to reply further, Shin cuts in with a smirk, "Please, no need for a beautiful girl like you to apologize. Why don't we just exchange digits so if there's any lasting damage, we know who to reach out to."
You're already throwing a dirty look his way before he's finished his lame attempt at flirting but almost laugh instead because the girl's expression changes so fast from the kind, conciliatory one aimed your way to a cold look of disgust that he's got to feel down to his bones.
Even her tone is effortlessly chilling with hard reproach, "Dude, you don't even know my name."
You grimace in solidarity, taking your turn to apologize, "I'm sorry about my cousin. He's apparently never spoken to a pretty girl outside the family before."
"Nah, it's all good, we probably all have one of those." Her response is laidback again, body angling back to you while subtly cutting Shin out of the conversation.
"Those?"
You both ignore his overly exaggerated wounded tone and she continues, "Anyways, just thought I'd do the right thing and check if you were okay?"
You give her a bright, reassuring smile, "I was quite literally thrown off, I guess, but I'm physically okay. Just give your friend a piece of your mind for me?"
"Oh, you can bet I will. But seriously, he's not at all like he came off, I promise."
You shrug because it's not like it matters - what are the odds you'll ever run into her or her friend again? You're about to say something to that effect when Shin's phone rings and he rushes to step away to take the call. Probably rushing a little too fast but such a swift and clear rejection will do that to a guy.
Speaking of, "By the way, I promise I'll make him pay for being such a douchebag later too."
Her mouth curves into an amused smirk once again, "Make him pay, huh? I almost wish I could see that. But I seriously couldn't care less, I'm used to people being little shits. And what are the odds I ever run into him again?"
She's rolling her eyes with her words, an eerie echo your own thoughts on her friend, when a smooth, soft-spoken voice cuts into your conversation, "Run into whom again?"
The two of you turn to see startling blue-green eyes trained intently on her, as if her answer is the only thing that matters, but you realize she also knows this dark-haired stranger when she narrows her eyes on him before responding, "No one important. What took you so long?"
"I stopped to get something for you. The least you can do is tell me what I missed."
"Aw, Akaashi," Her eyes turn soft with a happy tone and you're the one that feels like the intruder to their conversation now, "What'd you get me?"
"Nothing important." He throws her own brush off back at her in a careless manner as he gently tugs a strand of her hair. "Who's this?"
"Just an unsuspecting stranger Bo ran over." She gives you another apologetic smile but it drops when the guy continues.
"Uh-huh. And the guy that was just here?"
Her lips turn down in displeasure as a little snark enters her tone, "Were you just watching from somewhere like a creeper?"
"No, brat." He gives her deadpan look but his actions again contradict his expression as he swats her forehead before she can even react to dodge, "I saw you talking to him while walking up."
"He's just her cousin, please chill."
The guy gives you a look as if you're somehow to blame for something, asking her, "Did he say anything weird to you?"
"Define weird? Can you please back off? Thanks." Turning back to you while shaking her head in exasperation, "Sorry I feel like we're just here trading apologies for the guys in our life."
You were a little stunned at the odd interaction at first but her comment prompts sudden laughter to spill out. How true.
"Maybe we should get shirts made? Like those 'I'm with stupid' ones but 'Sorry for this guy' instead." Even as you speak, only her eyes are looking your way as she laughs at your words.
The guy, Akaashi, continues to watch her with a mostly blank look masking his thoughts. But if you're reading it right, you're sure there's a bit of his own displeasure and.. something else. Then, as if he feels you watching, his eyes slide over and, suddenly, you see the politeness that was first missing emerge. His posture straightens from where he was slightly leaning in towards her and his hand drops from where he'd reached out to mess with the ends of her hair behind her.
You're pretty sure you shouldn't ask if they're a couple, just a gut feeling, and you've long since learned to trust those. Is it just pretty obvious to everyone but them?
"Hey, sweetheart! You're still here." You cringe at the renewed hope in Shin's tone as he returns to round out your strange little gathering.
He definitely doesn't notice the sudden stiffness of the other guy's demeanor at his words, even after he answers for the girl sharply, "She hates being called sweetheart."
Does she? Or does he just hate hearing someone else give her a term of endearment?
Shin blinks in surprise as if only just noticing the addition of this guy, "Huh? Who are you?"
"What's it to you? Excuse us," The guy looks at you with considerably less hostility than was aimed at your cousin just now, "We have to be on our way."
Then he grabs the girl's hand and literally drags her away as she throws one last half amused, half exasperated look over her shoulder. You're about to turn away but you catch one last moment that holds your attention a little longer as he pulls a small item from his bag.  It looks like a small box of soy milk and she glances at it before turning her face away, pulling her hand from his and speeding up to walk ahead of him instead.
You can't see if they exchange any words but you have to smile as, after another moment, she holds an arm behind her and he gently places the drink in her open palm. That's when you also notice the guy that ran you over earlier re-enter, a bag now slung over his shoulders as he calls out while racing to catch up with his friends who look back but continue walking to their terminal. What an interesting bunch, one that makes you miss your friends all the more.
Turning back to Shin, you ask, "Ready to go?"
"Do you think they were dating?"
"Oh my god, please let it go, weirdo."

who do you think is more likely to 'fall in love' with the other? stu or mudz?
Aha, you're really trying to back me into a corner here. I would not call their long-running little dance of shared identity, rejected intimacy and mutually destructive codependence "falling in love" exactly, but...
If we're sort of removing the social expectations from those words, which I understand isn't realistically a thing we can really do, but you know, as a thought exercise-- separating the concepts of romance and romantic commitments from the process of a singular relationship's pull toward exclusivity, naming that growth in importance of one person to your perception of "the future" and domestic or interpersonal fulfillment, and I know that's all a comedically clinical way to describe it-- no surprise that I would say Murdoc is the first and the more likely to fall for Stuart.
I'll relent and allow some sentimentality, haha, so I'd also say that as much capacity as Murdoc has for cruelty toward Stuart, and as truthfully as he can see his unflattering sides, I do believe Murdoc does genuinely like things about Stu and can recognize that more easily than Stu can recognize the reverse. I don't think that means Murdoc is more willing to have vulnerable conversations or show something authentic in himself to Stu (in fact I'd say he's less willing in many ways to share non-physical intimacy) but I do think Murdoc can see Stu's attributes in a frankly reverent light, probably skewing too appreciative of those gifts. I do think Stu can name certain things he respects in Murdoc with having to pull teeth for it, but I tend to see Stu's perception of himself, his relationship to Murdoc, and Murdoc himself as being at three distinctly separate "angles," so to speak; they are three cameras on this scene, each showing their own perspective, none viewed exactly the same; and further still, there is a splintering in the brutality of their meeting, in the freedom from shame their friendship allows him, in the namelessness of their physical relationship, all of it factors into this kaleidoscopic sense of self that Stu lives with. He doesn’t have to like Murdoc when he doesn’t want to, and he’s fickle about who they are depending on what suits him.
I don't see them as the types to ever say something like "I love you," but if they were, I do think it'd be Murdoc making an allusion to it; more like desperately suggesting that Stu already knows it, that he would be glad to be less of himself and more a part of Stu and he shouldn't have to say something so plain (and real, and unguarded, and humiliating) when he's knelt at his knees for twenty years and told him far more pious things.

"Not today, Jack."
{ Gynisis Kro starter for @diaryofafewmadmen's Jack Sparrow }
Tumblr media
"Sparrow," the voice of a rather irritated female came from across the room in the noisy pub, somehow breaking through all of the chatter of everyone else. It had been quite a few years since either of them had last seen one another; and while it was unlikely that it had been long enough for how Jack looked to have changed, this woman, for certain had not - at least, where her face was concerned. Just as young as she had been in appearance since the last time that she had seen Jack, the only thing that seemed to have differed about her was all the tattoos she had gained.
"Jack Sparrow." The blonde, Gynisis Kro by name, frowned flatly as she approached the table where she had seen her missing 'patient' of five or more years ago, sitting with who she presumed must be one of his friends. "So, it is you!" Almost seeming to seethe, she came right up to the table and stood in front of him.
"I'm sure that you didn't expect to be seeing me again after you left me on that island, did you? What was it that you said? Oh, yes. 'I won't be going anywhere, I don't feel good enough to,' I believe that was it. As well as your promise to take me with you so I could finally have off that island?" She was very clearly angry, but what Gyn wasn't saying, was that she had also been worried. As far as she had known, he could have died since then. And, even though he had left her behind, she felt kind of responsible for him and his health. Something that she couldn't help or watch over, if he was nowhere to be found.
Putting her hand down on the table, she grabbed a chair and turned it around. Sitting down, she propped her chin on her fist. "You really shouldn't leave people who can't die and stay dead on islands with grudges to hold, Jack," she started, pointing to the paper on the table. "And..since this paper probably means that you're here in search of a new crew," she paused. "I may be sick of pirates.. but I think that you owe me for breaking your word." She sat back, folding her arms. "In light of that, I'm going to sign this paper. And you should think long and hard before you say that you won't take me with you," Gynisis said, leaning forward and taking a quill to sign her name on the paper. "Because even though you left me on an island that you promised me you'd get me off of, ran away when I was trying to help you get better, and have been sailing all over the seven seas apparently avoiding me... I am still willing to help you. I feel like I might be crazy for offering, but..I am. And since I have less enemies than you do, I can't die and stay dead and you can - I think it'd be smarter to let me come with you. Don't you?" She rose her eyebrow, then going to get up. Pausing, though, she looked across the room.
"At least, I'd advise it very much because it would be better for both your health and for mine - and if you want my help, you should say so quickly." The blonde bit her lip, looking a bit antsy. "There are others around here who would love to make me work for them.. let's just say, they already don't like me and they really.. really don't like you." Clearing her throat, Gynisis began off across the room again, since she knew very well that the people she was speaking of, were not too far behind her when she had gotten away from them.
