Where it all started, my first van, The Pacer , not sure how much I paid for it but I filled up the tank at full house to drive to Wakefield and it cost £18. The woman at the counter said have you spilled something it’s all wet around your van. No it’s not mine I said and drove off, got to Wakey and the tank was nearly on empty. Slowing the pace of deforestation

The world knows deforestation is happening and although trees play a significant role in attempts to slow climate change, deforestation is continuing on an unprecedented scale. It is up to each of us to do something about it.

The United Nations

According to United Nations, the world has lost 420 million hectares or about a billion acres of forest, in the last 30 years. Almost one-fifth of the Amazonian rain-forest has been destroyed over the past 50 years, and Amazon Conservation reports that destruction rose by 21 percent in 2020, with January 2022 holding the dubious record of the highest ever loss of Amazon rain-forest.

Trees and Carbon Dioxide

Trees absorb not only the carbon dioxide that we exhale, but also the heat-trapping greenhouse gases that human activities emit and which have led to climate change.

Causes of deforestation

We also know that farming, grazing of livestock, mining, and drilling account for more than half of all deforestation, with forestry practices, wildfires, and urbanisation accounting for the rest.

For example, a large percentage of the world’s palm oil production comes from Indonesia and Malaysia, where the rain forest is being cleared at a rate of 2.4 million acres a year to make way for new plantations. Animal farming has become one of the leading causes of deforestation in Amazon, with around 70 percent of the Amazon rain forest cleared to make way for cattle ranches for meat production.

Not all deforestation is intentional. Some is caused by a combination of human and natural factors like wildfires and overgrazing, which may prevent the growth of young trees.

Why it matters and what we can do

Deforestation directly affects the people and animals where trees are cut down, but also everyone in the wider world.

Some 250 million people living in forest and savannah areas depend on them for subsistence and income, many of them among the world’s rural poor. Eighty percent of Earth’s land animals and plants live in forests, and deforestation threatens species including the orangutan, some tigers, and many species of birds.

Climate Change

In terms of climate change, cutting trees adds carbon dioxide to the air and removes the ability to absorb existing carbon dioxide. According to the World Resources Institute, if tropical deforestation were a country, it would rank third in carbon dioxide-equivalent emissions, behind China and the USA.

These numbers make for shocking reading, but movement is under way to preserve existing forest ecosystems and restore lost tree cover. Many organisations and activists are working to fight illegal mining and logging.

As individuals we can make a difference and it makes sense to examine the products and meats you buy and how you live your lives.

We can:

Use less paper and recycle paper and cardboard;

Stop buying products which contain palm-oil:

Look for sustainably produced sources;

Avoid products which contain palm-oils;

Reduce our meat consumption; and

Support organizations that fight deforestation, such as Greenpeace, World Wildlife Fund and the Rain forest Alliance

Become more mindful

Unless attitudes change and we change tack, the Amazonian rain forest will continue to decline and that long-term will kill off the human species too.

I write about and bring these issues to my blog because they are important, but unless we start being selfless and change how we live, future generations including your children, their children and their children's children will be lost. I hate carrying the burden of being the bearer of bad news, but this is a real issue that needs us all to act NOW.

Also, the tireless work that people like Sir David Attenborough and Chris Packham do to get us to play our part will have been for nothing. Decades of their documentaries are a force for good. Governments need to do their bit. It is important to incorporate change into our everyday lives. Not to put a finer point on it, we are killing the planet.

Conclusion

Let��s become mindful as we go about our lives, let’s start caring about the world because the world needs us to care, it needs us to care about all who live in it. Be more selfless, so that we can save the world so that future generations may live, so they have the opportunity to live and thrive, for them to make the world for future generations and so forth. The alternative shouldn't be a consideration or an option. Sadly, it is on the radar. Attitudes must change.

As that picture shows, Gabby and I are now less than 100 weeks away from becoming Mr and Mrs Jones, it’s still a distance to go, but in the short time we’ve been planning, we’ve booked a hell of a lot already: church, reception hall, caterers, our wedding cars,photographers and the DJ (who comes with karaoke, hells yea!) So we’ve not been faffing around, which makes a real change for me, I used to be content with plodding along at a slow pace, so this is a little bit of a revisit for me.

However I realised that I needed to pick up thepace, because of how much I love Gabby, and how much she needs to know it. She may not say it, or show it, but she deserves all the love the world can give her, she’s endured a lifetime of pain and hell in a quarter of a century, but through it all, she found the time to want to spend her life with a 27 year old who’s greying rapidly, has wrinkles, crows feet, and a general messed up sense of the world.

I can say with confidence that she loves me, even if she’ll admit that she doesn’t want to publicly show it (yet we’re having a church wedding in front of just about 100 people. Work that out), but she loves me, she loves me enough to buy me little gifts when she finishes a long day work, she loves me to the point that she supports my insane ideas, which most people would laugh at, yet she sees my logic to it.

Gabby always takes the time to read me, to understand what I’m thinking, what I’m feeling, how to make me laugh when I’ve had a crappy day, plus she never gives up on me, no matter how much I piss her off!

I’m marrying her because she has helped me be a version of me that I really like being, I like who I’m becoming for once, I’m more confident than ever, my health is the best it’s been for years, and I find it so much easier to be open with people now, and share things I never would have before.

I love Gabby, she is every part of the world that I love, that fascinates me, she is the first person I see when I wake up, and the last person when I go to sleep, she is the Lily to my Marshall, the Bones to my Booth, and….whatever other cute TV couples are out there.

Marrying you will be the best thing I do darling, then buying our home will be the next best thing we do, you giving me children (not because you feel you need to, but because you actually want to have children with me) will be our biggest adventure, and will top everything else. Except for the 16th of October 2021. Because there isn’t a day on this Earth, a sunrise or sunset, or any kind of anything, that could beat that day.

Damon wasn’t too into college unless it was something to do with a party or at least he wasn’t until you went to college

He loves to cuddle with you after a long day or go to the grill and drink with you while you rant about your day or tell him cool neuroscience facts

Damon wouldn’t admit it but he loves to dance

He could dance for hours with you

When you were captain of the dance team Damon went to every competition

He would bring water and power raid  saying you needed to stay hydrated

Damon had a humongous ego so your egos sometimes clash

It causes some powerful arguments and sometimes heartbreaking breakups but you always make up and both you and Damon apologize

Damon is a vampire very little can kill him so he is very careless and lacks regard for his safety

You are also reckless and just wanna have fun but your human and can get hurt very easily

Now Damon doesn’t even try to argue with you he just gives in and gives you what you want

Damon appreciates that you are direct

Everyone in his life hides things and lies so it was refreshing you were honest

He feels more people need to do that

He enjoys taking you to extravagant or fun dates

He showers you in compliments and gifts

He has to appear hard because he doesn’t want to show people he has feelings so they could hurt him again

He is damaged and has trust issues 

But with you, he feels comfortable and safe to be vulnerable and wants to show that

Damon can be a bit crazy so he understands when you miss a dose and goes off the handle

He calms you and gives you your medication when you forget them

He does try to avoid that though by constantly trying to make sure you are okay and you take you meds

Klaus Mikaelson

Klaus’s eyes found you at the Mikaelson masquerade ball and he was hooked since

The original hybrid had seen and been with many beautiful women but you were by far the best

He found your body and soul perfection

Klaus loves to listen to you talk about your passions which included neuroscience

He thought you were the smartest woman he had ever met

He liked to drive you to school and walk you to class

While you did your homework he painted or sketched listening to you spur random facts

When it stressed you out too much he made sure to make you pause and relax

speaking of him painting you were his muse he had tons of sketchbooks filled with sketches of you as well as hundreds of paintings of you

Klaus wasn’t big on dancing but he loves to watch you dance

He even occasionally puts the big bad hybrid persona away and takes you out dancing for date night

When you were captain of your dance team he went to every competition

He tried to compel the judges a few times to make you win 

but after you yelled at him he never did it again

He just loved how happy you looked when your team won

when your team lost he took you all out for ice cream

He made sure you had an excessive amount of water and Gatorade to keep you hydrated

Klaus’s lifestyle demanded a certain amount of carelessness and disregard for life but he still wished you were less reckless

Klaus loved you and considered you one of the only people that he trusted so he didn’t want to lose you

Klaus feeds you vampire blood daily in case you were hurt

He makes sure you are protected as much as he can anyways

Klaus was the most arrogant person you ever met and he had an ego to rival yours but that didn’t stop the love that had blossomed between the both of you

Your egos clashed and caused so terrible fights and crushing breakups

The both of you couldn’t live without one another though and always reunited

Klaus always got what he wanted

He was used to stubborn Rebecca’s biggest flaw was she was stubborn but you put his sister to shame

You weren’t afraid to fight him

And you didn’t stop until you got what you wanted

The Mikaelson was always determined first to break his curse, to create hybrids, to protect his family especially you and hope

He always thought he was the most determined person/thing on the planet that was until he met you

Klaus was alive long before football but he never tried it he was too busy

He watched you laugh and smile

That alone made him love it

now the family plays it all the time

Klaus has trust issues

He hates people lieing to him and keeping things a secret from him

So he definitely appreciates your honesty and how direct you were

Klaus pretends to be a monster but for you, he shows just how much of a helpless romantic he is

He would make you a nice meal wrap his arms and a weighted blanket around you give you your meds and lay with you until you were calm

He did try to avoid that because he didn’t want you to hurt

So he tried to remind you to take your medication
