I still love the fact that the entire Ironstrange community decided that Stephen fell in love with Tony after viewing 14000605 possible timelines bc he watched him die for everyone on Titan, watched him sacrifice himself for people he just met and essentially for the entire universe, watched him fall over and over and over again just to stand up and keep fighting because he had to. He’s seen every decision Tony could ever make, has seen every sacrifice-play he’s made, every victory and defeat, and decided ‘this one.’

Like, Stephen’s seen this man at his worst and at his best, probably knows him better than anyone else ever could, and he fell so in love with him. I will go down with this ship.

Hua Cheng and He Xuan: The Would-Be Gods

Jun Wu continued, “To become a ‘Supreme’, one must have experienced an unimaginable suffering and pain. One either ascends from such calamities or are doomed to the depths of hell, never to return. The two Supreme Demon Kings that emerged from Mount TongLu, Black Water and Hua Cheng, are both far more terrifying than you think.”

This quote is interesting in how it links being a Supreme inseparably from being a god, but what I find most fascinating is what Jun Wu doesn’t/can’t mention: that Supremes are a direct result of the corruption of the heavens.

Both Hua Cheng and He Xuan had their path to godhood snatched by the corruption of the heavens, but their trajectory is almost completely oppositional. Both had earned godhood for their actions fighting evil in defense of the weak. Hua Cheng gave up an eye to forge his weapon in order to save a group of stray humans who had wandered into the kiln, whereas He Xuan fought his way into the homes of the corrupt gentry who had terrorized his hometown and died after killing every last evildoer. But instead of ascending, as was their right, He Xuan has his godhood stolen by Shi Wudu under the eyes of the Heavenly Emperor, and Hua Cheng summarily rejects his ascension due to having previously witnessed the mistreatment of Xie Lian by multiple heavenly officials. Because their paths to the heavens were tainted, the two Supremes were “doomed to the depths of hell,” instead, ironically creating domains that ran much more fairly than the heavens they rejected/were rejected from.

At the same time, the crown prince of Wuyong ascends as a powerful god before falling to the machinations of the other gods and descending into White No-Face. However, where the previous two Supremes ultimately rejected the heavens of their own wills and accepted themselves as demon kings, White No-Face still wanted the power and adoration of being a god. Thus, Jun Wu ends up corrupting the heavens into a place that harbors and encourages evil in direct contrast to the domains of the Supremes serving as refuges.

Surrender the angle

Let's about a talk about "SURRENDER THE ANGLE", okay?!? Do I enjoy writing meta that comes across as bonkers? Yes. Yes, I do!

I can't help but wonder about this (and we all know Neil Gaiman is a fan of double meanings).

It doesn't say "Surrender Gabriel", and it makes me think of this scene from The Wizard of Oz in which the Wicked Witch of the West is making it perfectly clear what she wants from the merry old Land of Oz (which is strikingly similar in sound of the Land of Uz, which I don't think is an accident, but that's not for this post).

There are two angels in the bookshop, Jimbriel and Aziraphale, and a third angel standing outside just taking notes while the demons hassle Aziraphale, Crowley, Gabriel and all the humans.

Aziraphale actually helps Gabriel and Beelzebub escape, which goes against what Heaven and Hell both wanted to do to them.

And then Aziraphale goes back to Heaven after a chinwag with The Metatron.

And I'm sure many people would like to disagree with me because Aziraphale is easy to scapegoat as the bad guy by many people in this fandom, but we did not see the entire conversation between Aziraphale and the Metatron.

"Surrender the angle" assuming that angle is simply a misspelling of "angel".

Again, Aziraphale plainly stated that he did not want to go back to Heaven. I don't think he agreed to go back because he thought it was a good idea.

I think he fucking surrendered himself to Heaven. I've touched on this briefly in this post about Aziraphale's conversation with The Metatron and this semi-crack post about the portal to Heaven in the bookshop.

But there is also another angle (see what I did there?) to consider!!

Not only is angle used in the Bible, but takes us back to A Companion to Owls!

Lo and behold, this verse from Job is about the Leviathan!!

The Second Coming has already been set in motion (remember the zombies Furfur unleashed on Earth and "the dead shall leave their graves and walk the Earth once more").

Remember Shax looking for demons who are doing good deeds?

Remember that Crowley was pulled into Hell in Edinburgh after doing a good deed in the presence of Gabriel's statue, which furthers the idea that Aziraphale and Crowley are never not being watched (see my post about Goldstone's)?

Remember when Michael found evidence of Aziraphale and Crowley working together in season one and presented it to Gabriel?

Am I making sense to y'all? Do you understand what I'm putting down here?

Which leads me to wonder...

Are Aziraphale and Crowley "not talking" because of the fact that they've been caught and have to play it safe? They have to communicate through other means? Which is what has lead me to my thoughts about Saraqael and why I can see Crowley becoming a Duke of Hell.

What's the angle of it all???
