i see so many arguments on tumblr about the whole "reblogs are better than likes" debacle and i've seen takes that "artists aren't entitled to reblogs" but tbh when i see a post of original art/writing that has 100 likes and 10 reblogs it makes me feel a little feral. maybe i'm just an old-fashioned tumblrina but i really don't get how you could enjoy an Art that someone put a lot of effort into and not want to show it to all your followers. isn't that what this website is for??

Damian's new classmate was what most people would deem as strange, Damian however could not see him as anything other than suspicious. Daniel Knight had joined in the midst of the school year, claiming to have moved here with his father Fredric Knight (first area of suspicion, a parent willingly moving both them and their child to Gotham) for a new start following his fathers divorce. The boy was reclusive when not spoken to directly, however he would not stop talking when a topic of his interest would come up. After searching further into his past (as he does with all his classmates) Damian found a relatively normal past, the only outstanding things being a noticeable drop in grades at the beginnings of freshman year relating to an undisclosed accident resulting in lichtenberg scarring starting from Daniels palm, and presumably up his arm being hidden by his sleeve. Apparently this accident left Daniel with irregular tremors and, every once in a blue moon, seizures. Damian had thought about taking this suspicious blockage of information to Tim or the Bat Computer to be bypassed, however the idea of sharing Daniel this cases existence with the rest of his family for some unexplained reason bothered him greatly, so Damian has come to the decision to figure out Knight’s true intentions on his own.
Meanwhile Danny’s just trying to live his new, semi-normal life in peace. After a reveal gone wrong results in some good old vivisection, Jazz Sam and Tucker recruit the help of Clockwork to find Danny a new home, where he can heal from both the physical and mental wounds. Clockwork ends up dumping Danny into the DC universe alongside Fright Knight, who was insistent on going with him, feeling responsible in helping to protect his young prince now since he feels he failed the first time. So with a bit of spacetime razzle dazzle, Tucker messing with stuff he probably shouldn't have messed with and a very tearful goodbye with promises to check in every day, Danny goes off to start his new life as Daniel Knight. It was going ok so far, he took half the year to himself, focusing on healing. Also so Frighty could adjust to the whole pretending to be human thing. Danny doesn't have any friends yet, and to be honest hasn't made the effort to make any (Jazz would be disappointed if she knew that), but there's this one boy in Danny's class who might be even weirder than him. Danny can feel Damian's eyes on him, knows how he follows him around without a sound (Danny really shouldn't be able to tell, he only knows because he isn't fully human(and in a weird way, Danny thinks that's kinda cool)), and whenever they do make eye contact Danny can see and feel the boy fluster and shy away.
Maybe he just needs a friend too.

The more I think about it, the more I think that Persuasion has my favorite premise of all of Jane Austen's novels
Anne Elliot as a character speaks to my soul. She feels tremendous guilt for a decision she made eight years ago. Her life is lonely, as she doesn't really have anyone she can truly confide in despite being surrounded by people. So she swallows her pain, the yearning she feels deep in her soul, and vows that if nothing else at least she'll be helpful.
And of course she is reunited with Frederick Wentworth (the one that got away) who seems to hate her now, and she just keeps going. She keeps being kind and supporting her loved ones while slowly carving out a life for herself. There's something about her classic heroism that just feels so attainable. I don't have Elizabeth Bennett's wit, or Jane Bennett's unwavering belief in the goodness of everyone, or even Elinor's constant composure. But I can be like Anne and just keep moving forward attempting to be helpful
Of course it all works out in the end, and Anne is finally surrounded by people who truly appreciate her, even if she had to wait an extra eight years. Others have observed the fairy tale quality of the ending, and perhaps that's why it speaks to me. The idea that if you just keep doing your best and being kind, you'll eventually find happiness

Something I've been thinking about is how Patrick O'Brian manages so skillfully to write characters whose actions contradict their beliefs, which I think is honestly a big part of why his characters feel so real. Mostly with Stephen and Jack—e.g., and perhaps most notably, Stephen has notably leftist sympathies (honestly I have no idea how to characterize his politics in period terms) who nonetheless becomes very comfortable with his rise to the landed gentry, while Jack is a card-carrying Tory who much of the time sympathizes far more with working class sailors and farmers than with the upper classes—but I'm sure he does it to a lesser degree with some of his minor characters (James Dillon, while perhaps not precisely minor, comes to mind), and I love that he's able to do that, especially the way in which he embeds it in the narrative. We see how they're all unreliable narrators of themselves; we understand how they want to be seen and how that does and doesn't coincide with the reality, but most importantly, this isn't presented as something reprehensible, just as a part of their own humanity. They are not their expectations for themselves, but they don't need to be those expectations to be beloved.

i genuinely do believe that lian going down a more civilian, superhero-adjacent path rather than operating fully as a superhero would make for a compelling narrative.
already, lian has a very nuanced perspective on "the life" because of how intertwined it has been with her own life, more specifically, her childhood. she has been privy to the emotional and physical toll it takes on the people involved, and the things that are asked of them day in and day out. of course, she still admires her father and all her aunts and uncles, but she has seen enough to know that being a superhero is far more than having cool costumes and flashy powers (or unparalleled skills, like roy’s aim). she has also seen what it looks like on the other side, as in, she is aware that her mother's life as "cheshire" regularly conflicts with her life as "jade", ultimately making it more difficult to build a life as the latter rather than continuing with the former. her parents’ jobs (albeit different) have been points of contention in the past because there is no true balance between their personal and professional lives, their professional lives often trickling into their personal ones.
what would make the decision to not follow in roy's footsteps even more powerful, to me, is if she chose to experience it for herself and ultimately realized it wasn't for her. from there, she could get more involved with the community while also staying the hero-loop in some capacity. she could go the reporter route like lois and linda, be a public defender/engage in pro-bono work, help develop health clinics, improve conditions of shelters, etc.. there’s many different routes that she could take that would help support the work that is being done by her dad and family without necessarily being directly involved in that part of the fight.

Psychiatrists should directly at least even just briefly explain side effects instead of just asking symptoms and being like okay so you’re depressed? Let’s try *enter antidepressant* and boom you’re done. I know prescriptions almost always come with informational papers but I really truly doubt that most people read them. I honestly just feel it’s wrong and very careless to not disclose side effects to a patient and discuss those things with the patient before prescribing a medication.

making a text post about a fandom / ship thought and ending it with “TO ME” is the same as writing an essay and starting your thesis with “it is my opinion...”

my silly little trimax theory that i will forever stand by is that i think razlo was the one who actually ran forward to catch jasmine when she fell off the roof when they were kids.
my main reasoning is that when he runs forward, he’s completely obscured in shadow, with only his left eye visible. which is how razlo is often portrayed in livio’s flashbacks!!
Tumblr media
[Image ID: A panel from Trigun: Maximum volume 9, depicting the scene in which Livio runs forward to catch Jasmine as she falls off the orphanage, roof. In the panel, he rushes between two kids, who are depicted in normal detail, while he himself is obscured by shadow with only his left eye shown as a single white dot. end ID]
while I do think it was livio who was fronting by the time he actually caught jasmine, i sincerely believe it was razlo who got them running in the first place. plus, we see this scene from wolfwood’s point of view, and of course he wouldn’t be able to actually know if it was livio or not in that moment

The way that when Kit and Jade were trapped together by the Bone Reavers and Kit was all “Jade is my -” and pauses before admitting to Elora just how much she loves and needs Jade bc that’s just a little bit too much emotional vulnerability thank you very much and Elora just? gives her a look?? a peak come on. just say it look, and Kit panics and rethinks and instead goes with “we’re friends just friends totally just friends why would you or anyone even think differently???” and Elora just goes right enough that’s it this girl needs to be thwacked over the head with “you’re fooling absolutely nobody we can all tell it’s literally the worst kept secret in the whole nine realms”

the male companion bodies in bg3 make no sense at all for their classes or backgrounds, and its such cowardice to give them all broad shoulders and six packs. gale is a wizard whos been living a cushy life indoors in waterdeep, and unless he's been bench pressing tomes, give him pudge, he deserves pudge. astarion was deprived of proper nutrition for *200 years*, he should look borderline emaciated. wyll i could maybe see being a bit more built? but more in a marathoner way than action man, (but even then. Give him tummy bc. I said so).
wild that they really took a *WIZARD*, a rogue, and a warlock, and went "yeah make them shredded, that makes sense." cowards and fools. where are my gale dadbod truthers? my lanky astarion bedfellows? my wyll gut siblings-in-arms??
