A year and two days ago, I came back to the writing arena with Tomorrow Will Come, a post-canon oneshot that wasn't supposed to spawn four sequels after it, and the crazy talented and wonderful @annawayne gifted me this T_T

(anna pls, I'm overwhelmed every time, you can't keep doing this T_T)

I don't want to sound like I'm tooting my own horn, because fic writers come and go, and there are many who've been in the AA fandom for years - but all the same, I just want to say, I'm happy I started writing again and returned to Tumblr. I've met so many wonderful people on here (you know exactly who all you are), and it doesn't feel like a year, more like a lifetime, and there is nowhere else I'd rather be. So... I'm glad this fic was the one that half brought me here.

As for this... This BEAUTIFUL art T_T Anna. Your talent knows no bounds. This is beyond fucking magnificent, I'm so grateful, thank you so much T/////T

That said, holy fucking shit do I need to re-write the whole damn fic because 🥲 I'm wincing a bit at my prose from back then...

i think kyle and kory might have THE funniest and most chaotic history of any 2 characters i’ve ever seen. they’ve spoken all of like 3 words to each other in total, but literally EVERYTHING about the couple interactions they’ve had has been so insane in so many ways

the very first time they met, kyle tripped all over himself and told her he used to have a poster of her in his dorm room while donna was introducing them, then went with her and the rest of the titans to try and save gar, where kory very dramatically revealed she was possessed by raven. everybody’s like “my god!!” and kyle is just. standing there. in the background. absolutely no idea what the hell is going on or who any of these people are

and then in THE SAME ISSUE, tamaran gets destroyed right in front of kory’s eyes. she’s like on the floor having a breakdown, and kyle, who literally just met her 5 minutes ago, is still just in the background like 😬

the ONLY other time i’m aware of them really interacting is those couple pages in wonder woman where they stop a xenophobic dude from attacking an alien and kory says something like “god i’m so sick of humans” and kyle’s just fully like “yeah same sometimes i hate humanity as a whole and think this entire planet was a mistake” and starts to go off on a whole rant about empathy but gets cut off because a villain flies in out of nowhere and TURNS HIM INTO A FUCKING GOAT, knocks kory and jen out, and then the scene just ENDS.

i don’t think this was EVER ADDRESSED like was he still a goat when she woke up?? did she stay with him until the goat curse wore off? were she and jen running around with goatkyle trying to find a way to fix him offscreen? did she just abandon him to his fate?? take him to a barn??? i have SO MANY QUESTIONS like this shit was SO HECTIC FOR NO REASON

god and ALSO while afaik these are the only two times they’ve actually really talked, there’s also the fact that kory was both best friends with donna and got pretty close with jen while they were on the outsiders together right after her and kyle’s messy breakup. she has almost certainly had to sit through multiple rants about him from BOTH of his exes

she literally only knows him from 2 incredibly short, incredibly hellish interactions, and they’ve never really talked to each other, but also she probably knows more about him and his personal life than 99% of people including his closest friends. more than she ever wanted to know. WAY more.

like what the hell would her opinion of him even be?? i think about this all the time and yet i have absolutely no idea??

she barely knows him but also he was there for one of the most traumatic events in her life and also she knows every single weird thing he’s into and has seen him turned into a barnyard animal. how the hell is she supposed to feel about all that. can’t even begin to speculate. what the fuck. i’m obsessed with them

do you guys remember when Attack On Titan had a fucking Looney Tunes Babies style spin off where all the characters were in junior high and the titans were just bullies and eren was mad at them because they ate his hamburg steak and it was legitimately better than the original

#yui rambles #dont ask me why i randomly remembered #i often think about attack on titan #about how its first season was one of the most promising new shows at the time #it felt so refreshing and full of life and energy and ideas and something to say #and then you reach a certain point in the story and youre like #...huh this is weird #and you keep reading/watching and start wondering what's wrong #and then at a certain point it just hits you #and youre like woah! wait!#i get it!#the author is not a good writer!#this pacing sucks! the reveals suck!#i get it now! the beginning of the story was a fluke!#attack on titan's legacy was carried on an extremely promising intro section and a very competently made anime adaptation #but not even the sick art style and incredible action scenes could save a story so shoddily told imo #and then you reach the end and its like wow. so the thing you had to say was awful.#sorry i dont mean to swing at a hornets nest #i just think about it because when a story nosedives that hard its like. a case study for me #whatevs this is all my opinion no disrespect if you like it #but even if you like it i think you HAVE to be aware that the point being made with the story is a pretty fucking terrible one #anyway this post got fucking derailed in the tags lmao my point is attack on titan junior high was legit funny and had a better ending lmao

She needs to feel a burning love, not necessarily romantic, which would make her do some crazy shit. She should be mad and furious and let her feelings guide her. She should reconnect with her emotions, and feel some real happiness with the people she loves. She should scream and shout and feel pain and punch some shit just for the sake of it. She should be emotional, driven by her feelings, and maybe even kill someone. And god does she need to kiss some girls.

Titans 410 Thots

Happy to have my family back. I loved how they are framed in the beginning of the episode with Dick, Kory, and Rachel. I love how they all mimic each other in specific ways whether tone of dress, stance, or manner of speaking. It shows are close they are. When you’re around people you love you tend to pick up on mannerisms and influence because they impact and inspire you. I see this happening between the entire core4 and that makes me so happy. Now here’s where things got dicey. Anything having to do with Sebastian, Conner, and Mother Mayhem are so dry and so boring. I feel like it’s controversial to say this but I actually enjoy Conner Luthor. I enjoy seeing Josh do something new with the character and although his attitude can get nasty it’s actually a refreshing change of tone. There has to be somebody that tells it like it is and unfortunately that’s ConLexy. I may or may not identify with him in that way. But seriously, having this Brother Blood villain build up was such a mistake. Joseph Morgan is such a charismatic actor and I feel like they have lost a lot of that by making him this sniveling incel. Two episodes left and I still don’t fear for Kory’s life.

And that’s a whole nother thing. Since Dick tries to remain “level” headed by simply not reacting with urgency to Kory nor RACHEL wanting to sacrifice themselves, I don’t feel like there are any stakes. Dick has remained seemingly unconvinced and unmoved this entire season, which could be attributed to his overall calculated “detective” character trait. But for me as a viewer, if he’s not moved, I’m not moved. I do love how Kory and Rachel do seem to be the only ones really concerned about what could potentially happen. I wish Dick stepped in and showed a little more emotional vulnerability to what we presume are his fears. And if when he does… It’s gonna be too little too late because the show is over. Honestly I could write an essay about Dick’s lack of character development, but this season isn’t about him, and clearly the writers forgot to include his own development in that as well. Anyways back to the stars of the episode.

Koriand’r and Garfield Logan. They had a stand out performances. The emotional vulnerability and care that these two feel for each other was present in the whole room. Garfield subconsciously opened up the Red to Kory because she needed space to think. He provided that safe space for her. You can tell that these two actors are really close because the ease in which the conversations between them happened so genuinely and authentically. When Kory says the line about Sebastian trying to destroy everything she loves and lists off the titans.. I CRIED! Like Anna KILLED that delivery! I really felt the familial love in the room between this team and that’s honestly what we’ve been missing from the entire group for most of the season. Confessions of the love that these characters have for one another. It was so powerful. And Dick and Rachel got something similar, but if I am being honest, it fell a little flat. Some acting choices, script choices, it just didn’t feel as dire as it could have. To have Dick refer to Rachel as his friend, after he just called somebody like Constantine his friend. It makes no sense to me. And again shows a lack of care for Dick’s character development in terms of referring to these people as his family, which I believe he did to Conner in 401 or 402. Again I am just confused by Dick’s progress and vulnerability in the very beginning to complete lack of sentimentality in the end. “Friend” feels so trivial and clinical to their journey as a pair. I didn’t expect daughter because that’s not how Dick rolls but “put my family down” or “put HER down or Rachel” would’ve felt a little better to me. Maybe it was the delivery. Didn’t feel desperate or urgent. But maybe friend means a lot to Dick🫣 I’m glad they got to have their moment.

I love how Gar was loved on this ep. He received so many hugs and smiles and genuine opportunities for people to show him how meaningful he was to them after a tough s3. I LOVE THIS FOR GAR! He is literally the heart and sunshine of the team and he deserved it all. TimBer….. If you like it I love it 🫠 With only two episodes left I have set my expectations accordingly. I hope we get to see Dick lose some type of emotional control over somebody KORY at the very least next week. I am tired of having to create fantasies in my head for how Dick feels. I want it to be shown to me and most importantly KORY! SHOW ME PLEASE!

I read and loved When May Met Sally, and I adore May and Sally's friendship! How you treat Sally being jealous that May has Ben is amazing. But I'm curious about why you have Percy lying to his mom all the time even aside from Spider-Man stuff? In the books he was mostly honest to her about his demigod life. And about Frederick Chase, it's less about villainizing him than it is that Annabeth at 7 felt so unloved and a burden that she'd rather run away with no guaranteed food and shelter.

The best part of being a brand new fan is that I have an entirely different perspective on the books/relationships. Case in point: views on parents in pjo and how it differs when you read these books with a fully cooked brain.

I could be off base, again I read these books a month ago and read the sections with Sally in them while writing When May Met Sally but… Percy doesn’t tell Sally shit lmao. He’ll tell her the details of a quest the few times he actually deigns to tell her anything (which is few and far between), but for the most part? Percy is very much in his own little world with the demigods, especially after the Lightning Thief. I specifically went back and made sure any scene where Sally is “part of the action” is almost word for word from the books. It’s one of (the many) pet peeves I have with the series that after that first book? Sally is basically a non-entity for Percy, given a boyfriend very early on and then very “have fun sweetie don’t die” when it comes to the shit Percy gets up to. It’s a kids book, parents have to be detached or otherwise occupied because of the function of the genre but it’s distracting for me because Percy grew up JUST with his mom who seemed to do damn near almost anything to protect him… only to be totally fine with and be very hands off about him fighting monsters every year for the next five years.

(It’s why she and May are such good parallels imo, since HOCO May vs FFH May are two different people as far as I’m concerned)

The one exception obviously is not telling Sally Peter’s secret but (spoilers for Chapter 8) even that is something Percy does eventually tell her which to me, seems perfectly aligned with his M.O. for everything else. He does things first, tells Sally last and while I can’t change canon, I can make it so that a fic in Sally’s POV does her more justice.

as far as Frederick, I’ll say it before and say it again: was Annabeth really unloved and a burden or was she just seven. There is nothing in the text that gives me the impression that Frederick made her feel those things vs Annabeth— whose fatal flaw is hubris— felt those things all on her own. Now Mrs. Chase is definitely quoted as implying/saying things to Annabeth but it’s telling to me that we don’t learn this until the sequel series.

Fanon is a hard thing to unlearn and everyone is allowed to have a different interpretation but from canon alone, I cannot say with any confidence that Frederick was this horrible dad that made Annabeth feel like shit OR that he didn’t do everything in his power to try and get her back after she left. If anything, canon directly contradicts this narrative that Frederick was relieved/glad that Annabeth was gone since at the end of the lightning thief, he was thrilled she was coming back home.

Again— I’m new here and read these books as a grown ass adult. I think that is a huge reason why I see things differently than a lot of others.
