Congrats on coming out Sabrina! I realized a lot of toku fans I've seen are queer, myself included. Do you think the genre attracts a lot of queer people? If so why do you think that is?

Thank you! I think a lot of it has to do with the themes of transformation, becoming more powerful through change and embracing the power of being who you are in the face of a world out to get you, or at least powerful enemies who want to see you destroyed and still finding the will, the hope and the motivation to strive to conquer those foes. I think a lot of us have power fantasies of being able to protect others in the community for hate and bigotry. We wish we could use what makes us 'different' to defend those like us, to save them. One of the messages I love in Super Sentai is that alone we might not be able to stand against the darkness, but together, with all of our colors shining brightly, we can. I think that's one of the reasons it resonates so much with LGBTQ+ fans.

The Toku100 Drabble Challenge

Welcome to The Toku100 Drabble Challenge! This is a spiritual successor of sorts to the old and now long gone toku100 community on LJ. However some of how this event operates will be a bit different compared to the original.

This challenge is about making Tokusatsu drabbles with prompts from one of the prompt lists, or a self generated bingo card, and going at your own pace. This event is meant to be relaxing and fun, as well as a good way to flex those storytelling muscles through making some drabbles!

This challenge welcomes all types of Tokusatsu from all across the genre. Kamen Rider, Super Sentai, Garo, Metal Heroes, Power Rangers, Ultraman, various showa series, etc. Even shows like PGSM or Cutie Honey The Live! If it's in the Toku genre, it's welcome here.

All types of drabbles are welcome. Gen, M/M, F/F, M/F, Multi, etc! All ratings welcome too.

Because all ratings are welcome, this event is 18+ only and participants must be over 18 years of age regardless of what they will write. If you are found to be under 18, you will be blocked and banned from participating.

This event mainly runs on Dreamwidth at toku100challenge but while having a Dreamwidth account is also not required to participate, it is highly encouraged. And it's free too!

But there are ways to participate without being on DW itself. Such as through this very Tumblr! I also am posting the prompts on here as well. I would love to see as many fans as possible partake in this regardless of what platform they use.

Ex: (Yes it's Toku cause it's what inspired it) in Kamen Rider Ex-Aid the various toys and props make sounds such as Gashuun or Gashatto which are sometimes either fully translated to what it would mean in English or is kept to a romanization of what is being said. This could also apply to terms that do have translations into your preferred language but could sound awkward literally. Such as Shinkenger uses Ippistsu Soujou as their transformation call which means iirc with these brushstrokes we report to the emperor that also gets shortened to imperial report
