Pairing: Best Friend Peter Parker x Reader

A/N: This was inspired by my best friend who likes to facetime me when he goes to the store at freaking 1 am for snacks and it gives me so much anxiety. Also, this is strictly platonic, which is a first for me, so if this sucks extra, I'm sorry 😅 I hope y'all like it! If you do, I would definitely appreciate any and all feedback 💕

It was almost midnight when your phone started ringing, a facetime notification with Peter's face immediately illuminating the screen. You answered, expecting to see your best friend and instead saw a grainy dark image.

"Peter?"

You didn't really hear much at first, just the sounds of the city and wind before Spider-Man's mask popped up on the other end and your ears were filled with Peter's voice.

"Hey, y/n!"

You gave him your best disappointed mom look, "Are you swinging right now?"

"Maybe."

"Peter! You know not to facetime and swing!"

"What? I really wanted you to keep me company while I go to McDonald's."

"McDonald's is literally two blocks away from your apartment, why didn't you just walk?"

"I mean, I was already out patrolling, I figured I'd kill two birds with one stone."

You refrained from rolling your eyes, you knew he'd use any excuse to go swinging around the city. "Please tell me you're being careful, at least."

"Of course I am." Even with the mask on, you could just tell he wasn't being completely honest, and it didn't exactly help your suspicions when two seconds later you heard a loud "oof," and the screen went completely dark Peter's end.

"Pete? Are you okay?"

Your heart was thumping loudly, your heart beat getting quicker and quicker each second he didn't respond.

"Peter Parker if you don't answer me right now I will find you and kick your ass if you're not already hurt."

Lucky for you and Peter, you saw the phone being slowly lifted, probably by one of his webs, and eventually you saw his mask covered face once again. You let out a breath of relief you hadn't realized you'd been holding before quickly chastising your friend.

"I'm sorry! I didn't mean to scare you, I almost hit a street lamp by accident, so I swerved and my arm did this thing and somehow my phone flew out of my hand..."

You let him ramble, half listening, half admiring the dumb boy you were lucky enough to call your best friend. You never meant to nag him, but despite Peter being the smartest person you know, he always found himself getting into trouble in the stupidest ways. You almost had no choice but to be the responsible one in your friendship.

“I’m glad you’re okay, but you’re officially banned from using your phone and swinging forever.”

You could almost see the mischievous smile you knew was on his face, “Whatever you say, mom.”

Thankfully, he pulled him to the mcdonald’s not too long after that. You listened to him order food, which honestly seemed like a lot, but you've seen Peter eat a ton more and some of it was probably for May, so you didn't question it.

"So, how was patrolling tonight?" You asked while he waited for his food.

“Oh, you know, the usual.”

You knew what that meant, “Did someone almost kill you tonight?”

“More like they tried,” he paused, swinging to a secure spot on top of the restaurant to take off his mask, “It was actually really cool.”

“Only you would think-” you cut yourself off, “Wait, I’m wrong. Only you and Ned would think almost dying is cool.”

“I wasn’t even close to death, I swear! There were these guys trying to rob the jewelry store down the street. You know the one by the deli with the really good bagels?”

He barely waited for you nod before he continued, “Well, one of them broke the glass and triggered the security alarm, they weren’t very smart.”

He looked so done, literally facepalming as he described the robbers, making you laugh, “I swooped in all cool and suave a second later and y/n, I kid you not, they literally started freaking out. The guy who broke the glass started crying. The other guy tried coming at me with a knife.”

“Okay," you interjected for a moment, "I’m not going to panic at the thought of some dumbass coming at you with a knife. But of all the things he could've brought, why did he bring a knife?"

He rolled his eyes thinking about it, “That’s what I thought! It barely took me five minutes to disarm him and web them both before the police came."

Peter moved on to a story that involved a little old lady, a drunk Elmo, and a slice of pepperoni pizza. It was somehow even more eventful than the robbers story. You were shocked and full of questions by the end of it, but his food was ready and while you wanted, needed, to discuss the topic further, you weren’t going to let him swing and talk to you on his way back home. After a little convincing, he promised to call you when he got home.

Fifteen minutes later, you were laying in bed, watching creepy youtube videos while you waited for Peter to call, when you heard a tap on your window. You had a little moment of panic, grabbing the closest thing to a weapon you hand near you, which just happened to be an umbrella.

You hesitantly made your way to the window and slowly pulled up your shades. For a second time that night you let out a sigh of relief as you come face to face with your best friend. You opened the window, letting Peter climb into your room before you lightly smacked him.

“Don’t attack! I have food!”

“You scared the crap out of me!”

He stifled a laugh, pulling you in for a hug to apologize. You forgave him, of course. He brought you food, there was no way you could be mad.

The two of you sat on your bed, Peter handing you chicken nuggets and fries.

"Have I ever told you just how much I love you?" You asked, or more like muffled, your mouth stuffed with food.

"Yeah, yeah, don't forget to chew, you dork."

You almost laughed at the fact he was parenting you for once, instead you gently shoved him before allowing yourself to eat like a normal person.

"I have so many questions about the Grandma and drunk Elmo fiasco, but first I have some tea to tell you."

Peter raised a brow, immediately intrigued.

"Guess who applied for a job today?" You gave him a knowing look, and his eyes widened, automatically knowing who you were talking about.

"You're joking, right? There's no way Harry showed up at your job."

"He did! It was so awkward!"

"Wait. You talked to him?" Peter pulled up one of your pillows, getting more comfortable on your bed, "Forget about the old lady. Spill the tea."

the thing abt black panther pale gifsets (beyond the fact that a lot of the time the characters are GROSSLY whitewashed & faded out which i could make a whole other post about) is that SO much is lost in translation……there’s a reason there’s so much vibrancy and color in that movie, so emotion in the patterns and designs.

black panther isn’t sterile and pale, it’s bright and bold! every costume and set and location is full of color imbued with meaning and symbolism and culture! color is a huge factor in showing the characters’ cultures and tribes and families and emotions and moral alignments. the creative theme behind black panther went to great lengths to make sure that every aspect of the movie is rich and nuanced, and washing out the colors seen in the film makes it half as enjoyable and half as meaningful and half as culturally significant and distinct

like imo when people make pale gifsets of black panther all that meaning is just leeched away…….
