#it’s going to only be another few hours but I am so relieved and competent until then#remember to move#stretch release yawn shift unclench and relax down#and remember to drink#water or juice or coffee or soda or tea or anything else your body likes right now#and remember to eat#if you haven’t had something in the last 3-6 hours at all#try to eat just a couple bites of a snack at least just so your body has a little bit of something for blood sugar and calories#or if food is too hard try to drink something with high sugar or consume a smoothie or shake or oatmeal/applesauce/yogurt#since they can be easier to take#and remember to give yourself medication#for any chronic or acute needs please make sure you take something if it will make it better#you can handle low level constant stuff a lot I know#but you don’t HAVE to it’s okay to take a break every now and then and get a little help#or even rest if you can#a mild headache will still be better or gone if you take something for it#tolerable but draining chronic illness symptoms are background noise I know#but sometimes we can all use the reminder that you actually COULD give yourself a little break if ‘better’#if you treat yo self by using a heating pad or extra electrolytes or as needed medication or cool cloths or a brace or earplugs or a fan etc#you can feel better a little bit and it’s not a waste of time#it’ll help you with everything else too#so check with your body for a moment just to see where you’re at with needs for#water food meds and comfort#and choose on purpose to be easing to yourself today if you can. you’re not a machine masquerading as a human. it’s okay to need.#reminders#(in the tags)#personal#add to journal#happy tag#i can actually be good for a momen

I do want to chime re: that last post, as someone who lives in a place where it's like 100F+ for like half the year, when things are bad enough it literally doesn't matter what you drink as long as you are consuming liquids. Yes, you should try to drink as much water as you can, but if you literally cannot stand the taste of it literally drink fucking anything. Coffee, tea, soda, and gatorade is better than not drinking any liquids at all. The ONLY drink doesn't hydrate you is alcohol, everything else is fair game.
Legit every time I see someone say "only drink water, everything else is bad for you" especially in regards to a disaster situation I want to scream bcs trust me anything is better than not drinking!! And, in fact, just water alone WILL NOT FULLY HYDRATE YOU. If you're eating enough stuff with salt and sugar in it you should be fine but there is a reason that hospitals use a saline solution to hydrate patients, and it's bcs if you don't have enough electrolytes in your system your body just straight up will not absorb the water!! Trust me, I have been super dehydrated before due to the heat despite drinking tons of water and it wasn't until I drank a gatorade that I actually started to feel better bcs I needed the sugars and salts in it to get my body to absorb the water I was drinking!! (Bcs contrary to popular diet culture opinion your body actually needs sugar, salt, and fat to function properly.)
I also know what it's like to try to force yourself to eat or drink something you can't stand and how a lot of the time our bodies just will not let us consume something if we don't like it, so trust me if you hate water to the degree that you will not drink it, DRINK SODA OR COFFEE OR TEA OR GATORADE FFS. You NEED liquids!! You are not hurting yourself, your body WILL hydrate itself with those drinks!! You should ofc again try to ALSO drink water, but if you hate water or don't have safe water just drink a fucking soda.
Add kool-aid or lemonade powder or mio drops or something like that to your water bottles, buy gatorade or pedialyte or another sports drink and drink a cup of water along with them, eat jello and watermelon and cucumbers, make iced tea or coffee and put extra ice in it, freeze juice in an ice-cube tray and put it in your water, have soda or hawaiian punch or sunny d or chocolate milk or whatever, eat popsicles, have soup, literally please just get liquids into you in any way that you can. Every single year summer gets harder and harder and we do not have the luxury of succumbing to "water or nothing" culture, so please just drink SOMETHING bcs nothing kills faster than dehydration and these things WILL hydrate you. Some might not do it as well as others, but they will do it, and that's enough to keep you alive.
TL;DR: Try to drink as much water as you can, but if you can't for whatever reason don't feel bad and pls just drink something, bcs when push comes to shove it's far more important to get liquids into your body than it is to worry about which ones, and drinking soda/juice/a sports drink WITH your water can actually help you stay hydrated BETTER than drinking nothing but water can. As long as you're avoiding alcohol you're fine, so please, just drink something.

How I Achieved Glass Skin Without Trying
Yes, you read that right. I achieved glass skin literally without trying at all. With glass skin being pretty much the last thing on my mind actually. Partly because I was never insecure about my skin as I really didn't have any acne issues. I had smaller bumps on my forehead and a little bit on the other parts of my face but no big breakouts or chronic issues. Also partly because I was so focused on something else...want to learn how you can also achieve clear skin without actually trying to achieve clear skin? Keep reading for all the deets.

Okay, so, as I mentioned above - clear skin was not my focus. It was genuinely the last thing on my mind. My focus was on something better. My focus was (and is) on my overall health. Women nowadays are so focused on 10 step skincare routines to achieve clear skin and retain youthfulness. This is not me putting anyone down, if a 10 step skincare routine makes you happy than by all means continue on! I'm merely pointing out that women don't need to do all of that to heal their skin. The key word in that last sentence is heal. But enough of me talking, here's what I did to completely clear my skin by focusing on my overall health. **Everything I name below are things I still do.
Diet
I focused on consuming nourishing foods
I have veggies and / or fruit at every meal. No exception. I don't go a day without consuming them. I focus on foods that nourish my body from the inside out. I don't eat processed anything. I consume other types of carbs, not just bread or pasta.

2. I began to drink coconut water and pure pineapple juice first thing in the morning
I drink 8 - 10oz of coconut water mixed with pineapple juice every morning. I've seen a big difference with my hydration levels throughout the day.

3. I severely limited fizzy drinks
There's a specific brand of sparkling water I love (it's called Clear American) and I used to drink it regularly. There's nothing super unhealthy about this brand but it's still carbonated. When I began to limit drinking sparkling water, I noticed a difference in my body and skin. I also very rarely drink soda, and if I do it's always Ginger Ale. I mainly drink water with lemon, organic lemonade and hot tea.

4. I limit bread to one meal a day
I always eat a type of carb during breakfast as they give me the energy I need to go through the day. *Side note* carbs are not bad for you. Your body needs them! Processed carbs are what should be avoided. Anyways, I only eat bread one time a day and then I'll eat other types of carbs throughout the day. The bread I eat is always the least amount of processed possible. I only eat sourdough or whole grain bread. I like going to famers markets to purchase my bread. If I don't eat bread for breakfast then I'll potentially eat a slice or two at lunch but I avoid eating bread for dinner. I like to consume things my body can more easily break down at dinner.

5. I cut out alcohol
I never drank a whole lot. I've always been a 'glass of wine while hanging with my best friend' type of woman, but if I was out on the town I would drink cocktails. I cut mixed drinks out completely. If I go out I'll order a pineapple juice or ginger beer (which despite its name, is nonalcoholic). I will very occasionally have a glass of wine but that's about it.

6. I limited my caffeine intake
I have a cup of coffee with creamer and sugar in the morning and that's it for coffee. If I'm slowing down in the middle of the day I drink water first and make sure to get up and take a walk around my office to get my blood flowing. If I'm still dragging after a full cup of water and 30 minutes, I'll drink a chai, other caffeinated tea or a matcha.

Lifestyle
1. I shortened my skin care routine to 2-3 steps
Your skin does not need a lot. It needs to be taken care of from the inside out way more than it needs products on it. In the morning I do a serum, very very light exfoliation and a moisturizing hyaluronic acid lotion. At night I cleanse, put on eye cream and use the same lotion. Once or twice a week I'll do a face mask. That's it! When I switched to this simple routine and focused on my overall health, my skin began to thrive.

2. I began to walk more
I sustained an injury so I wasn't able to walk as much as I was before. Once my injury healed and I was able to walk again (in the midst of all the other changes I was making), I noticed a difference in my energy level and changes in my body. Walking is so great for you, including great for your skin!

3. I began to sleep with a satin pillowcase every night
I ditched the regular pillowcase and switched to a satin one. I did this switch for my hair, not my skin but I've noticed it's helped with my skin a lot as well.

That's it! Once I made these simple changes and was consistent with them, I began to notice how much more amazing I felt. Then one day I looked up and my skin was completely clear. Not a small bump in sight. You don't need to buy all these acne products off of Amazon to get rid of your problem areas. Focus on nourishing and healing your body from the inside out. That's the secret.

hiiii i'm frustrated about posts that state things like "you HAVE to drink water with nothing else in it" or "you HAVE to eat fruits/vegetables without putting them in 'bad' food" so. a post.
it is literally better to drink anything (juice, tea, coffee, sofa, milk, whatever) than not drink. if you can't tolerate water or won't reliably sip it throughout the day, it's better to make something you WILL drink than not drink at all.
veggies are the same way. 'bad' salad dressings or whatever else are still better if it means you can eat vegetables. these things don't "cancel out" if you add or do stuff to them. not enough to be worth your body rejecting the "correct" arrangement and not getting anything, at least.
i'm autistic. if i try to eat stuff i don't like or don't tolerate well, i throw up. friends can attest to this, as i've tried things in restaurants and instantly thrown up. i gag at the smell of pineapple or red doritos, without even tasting them. i'm also chronically ill with an autoimmune disease and do not have the energy nor luxury to 'teach' myself how to tolerate food better, or to make complicated, time consuming dishes that meet the criteria some of these posts set out.
when i tried to drink mostly water, i was literally MORE dehydrated. i could feel it in the elasticity of my skin, i could see it in the color of my urine. the fact is, there is no reality in which i can tolerate water enough to drink what i need of it. it has to be something else. sometimes i can make "good" choices in alternatives, like juice, but a lot of the time if i don't drink milk or soda, i don't drink. i can't. i will block it out or, worse, make an honest attempt and hurl my guts out due to intolerance.
look, fluids and vegetables are IMPORTANT. i'm not saying they're not. all i'm saying is if you need to consume them in an "unideal" way, that it's fine. you'll be fine. my auntie can't eat literally 90% of "healthy" foods because she is flat out allergic. it makes her feel worse. it makes her unhealthy.
i implore you to look up recipes that include a lot of fruits, veggies or water—assuming you don't have a literal allergic—that look EDIBLE, and specifically look GOOD. you will get a lot more use out of a "subpar" meal you LIKE than one you have to pick and grit your teeth through. a lot of people discover they like veggies made certain ways, so please experiment! if you find something "weird" but it's tasty to you, keep making that! keep looking for things that you WILL eat or drink, or CAN eat or drink.
i get the intention of posts like, "you need to drink more water, without anything in it," i do. i get that there are a huge number of people who can make it work. i also know i had the most debilitating constipation of my life when i was drinking "nothing but water", because i can't actually drink enough of it to do any good. my urine was so yellow and opaque my doctor, at a glance, thought i had a uti. i didn't.
if you can do it, great! but i don't want to see more people like me or my aunt feel like they're not "doing enough" if they can't do these things "correctly". anything is better than nothing, and "less overall useful things you can do reliably" are often better than "more useful things you can't do much or at all".
i'm not here to argue about it. i have tried to "eat healthier", to "drink more water", and i am still trying. i look for new ways to consume water and veggies all the time. i definitely encourage that! what's unhelpful to me are posts that make me feel bad for things that have literally helped me stay healthier and stronger. for anyone else with similar experiences, and/or the unwillingness or LITERAL INABILITY to do certain things with food and water, i want you to drink. i want you to eat. i don't care what it is as long as it's not nothing. please don't break yourselves over things that are unrealistic expectations for you. if you can't do it, find something you can do. eat. drink. experiment with what works best. i love you.

ok so basically, judging by everything i’ve learned in therapy and in a medical anthropology class i took last year, i know folks who struggle with Brain Things tend to feel helpless and hopeless especially if you’ve got comorbidities
but here’s the thing: your brain controls your flesh body.
sure, praying and faith doesn’t cure cancer, but it can increase the chances of beating it and your life expectancy! 
if your brain has been wired to believe certain things wholeheartedly will kill you (such as someone pointing their finger at you and ordering you to die or the evil eye or things like that) your brain can force your body to react (warning: this link leads to the wikipedia article called “Voodoo Death” also known as psychosomatic death or magic death syndrome. I strongly disagree with the use of “voodoo” to describe this phenomenon.)
(it should be noted that this type of thing isn’t guaranteed, it’s messy just like anything to do with the human brain. it should also be noted that i’m not a psychiatrist, nor an anthropologist, nor a specialist; i’m just an autistic with a special interest and lessons from therapy)
this half-control that your brain has over your body is part of why we use cognitive behavioral therapy to help control anxiety, depression, etc. and also why cbt doesn’t work for every mental illness and disorder. if you keep telling yourself (or if others keep telling you) that you’re worthless, stupid, ugly, etc., eventually your brain will believe it and you’ll develop problems associated with those feelings. most people know that repeated exposure to negativity from outside sources will fuck you up, but the same happens from inside out!
however, you can also turn this around by using your brain’s control over your body and mind to help combat anything from mental illness to physical illness (not cure, in most cases, i want to be very clear; it’s just a habit you can keep up to try and help. this is self-care, not some kind of essential-oil-cures-polio bullshit. more like “peppermint tea soothes a sore throat” kind of treatment)
some suggestions:
if you can, have a regular, healthy sleep schedule. it’s pretty common knowledge that sleep deprivation can make you feel pretty shitty, but it can also exacerbate symptoms of things like depression, BPD, etc. because your brain is too worn out to work properly, so the fucky things going on can’t be fought as easily. same reason you sleep a lot when you’re sick; your body needs energy
if you can, go on a walk! not only is exercise good for you, body and mind, sunlight contains Vitamin D which helps to improve mental health (this is why some people with seasonal depression take Vitamin D tablets), plus fresh air is good. if you can’t go on a walk, try sitting by an open window, or get a sunlamp! open the blinds and windows while you clean or work!
Clean your room, organize your closet/desk/whatever, throw out old stuff, wash your sheets and pajamas. I know doing things like this is really hard when you have depression or ADHD or anything else (and there’s lots of things that make it hard or nearly impossible to do these things like chronic pain and chronic fatigue, hence why these things are only suggestions, they’re not gonna be possible or work for everyone!) Having a fresh, clean space or even just pajamas that aren’t warm from your body can help you overcome executive dysfunction, and can generally improve your mood. (John mulaney voice: YOU GOTTA THROW URSELF OFF UR RHYTHM) Plus, the cleaner your space is, the easier to find things, and the easier it is to keep it clean!
Drink water regularly! I know lots of folks (like my partner) hate the taste of water and would rather drink soda or juice or coffee, but my suggestion is to get water flavorings. Try and go for ones that don’t have a lot of sweeteners or other stuff in them, because then what’s the point of not drinking juice? If water isn’t a thing you can do (for sensory reasons or anything) try eating things that contain a lot of water like lettuce or watermelon!
Light candles, rearrange a room, put up a poster, or generally do anything to change your environment. For the same reason cleaning your room is helpful, changing your environment allows you to exhibit some control, which helps your brain stop feeling restless and helpless. A lot of the time (at least for me) that burst of energy helps me get over executive dysfunction!
Change the script and the way you talk to yourself and others. It’s hard to immediately be kind to yourself, so try by just being neutral or objective. Write out a list of your strengths and weaknesses, write out things you’re good at. When you look at yourself in the mirror, repeat things that you know to be good about yourself. You can even reach out to others and ask “what are my strengths? why do you like me?” Keep a journal, a mood tracker, a habit tracker -- anything that can help you get your thoughts and feelings out on paper. This is also a good way to battle long-term depression/memory loss/dissociation/etc., because it gives you something to look back on to prove that you’re a person.
Obligatory “create! do a hobby!” bullet point. do something silly, sing a song in the shower, allow yourself to enjoy being alive, even if all you can manage is three minutes. put a smile on your face and indulge!
Make sure you’re eating regularly! just like hydration and sleep, your body needs those calories to do Body Things
Acknowledge and appease your hierarchy of needs.   Here’s a good post on the different “brains” you can check off to try and treat why you feel bad.
Just remember, mind is power! all these things can help, but also it’s good to acknowledge that sometimes there are things outside of your control causing you issues, and beyond that -- some people’s brains are just Like That, so no matter what you do and what changes, you’ll feel varying amounts of shit (like me!) just be kind to yourself, and remember that it’s worth a try, and you are worth a try. i love you!
tl;dr: your brain can control your body; have a good sleep schedule, experience sunlight, clean your space, drink water, exert control over your environment, change how you treat yourself, indulge in your hobbies and your passions, eat regularly, appease your hierarchy of needs and your lizard brain. You’re worth it!

But usually they were rather lenient and understanding !!

They always seemed like they were on the verge of losing their mind
And toda must have been the perfect day for them to do that
because your professors summoned the LITERAL devil from within to torture everyon in your clas
But especially you
so let’s just say you’ve been scolded a lot and given wayyyy too much work for no absolute reason
you’re about this close to bashing your head against the wall but you gotta hang on
YOU'RE NOT IN COLLEGE FOR NOTHING AFTER ALL!!!
so you find yourself absently complaining about how much work you have to do today and your friends are like

what else can they say really??? they aren’t in your major and they can’t really understand your struggles even tho they wish they could

they don’t want to understand because that’s ANOTHER work load of information that would constantly be rattling in their heads
Haechan had decided to become a computer engineer when he decided to pick up a major, so his brain was just always fried
Jisung was still trying decide what he wanted to go into and chenle was very serious about becoming a business just so he could accumulate as much money as he possibly could
You always forget what Jaemin had decided to major in, but it wasn’t very interesting to you in the first place
And renjun had decided to major in some form of art, the easier out the four majors mentioned before
Or at least you thought they were easy
Either way TRUST AND BELIEVE if jaemin knew just a little about your major and was able to witness the unfairness in front of him
he’d probably get expelled
anyways renjun had noticed you just getting ready to cry in the corner about how overworked you were
and for once in his life decided to try and help out, not with work tho

----- What’s the meaning behind your url? ----- Honestly, the meaning behind my url isn't all that interesting See i used to just use Camicazi as my username for everything, but after a while it felt very restrictive to me, and so i wanted a new one And one day i was watching The Lion Guard, and there was a hyena named Jasiri, and i thought it was a cool name, so i tried it in PokemonGo but it was taken so i switched the 'a' out , and then i just started using Jusiri on all my other stuff😆😆 ----- Do i collect anything? ----- YES I have collected Tsum Tsums and Funko Pops, but currently im collecting Squishmallows, there just such nice plushies i love them💞💓💞 ----- Favourite Tea? ----- Well ya see ..... i dont actually LIKE tea, any kind of tea Theres just something that rubs me the wrong way about it, and i just cannot bring myself to drink it I dont like Coffee either A little rant about what i drink here but I only really drink Water, Milk, Juice, Hot Chocolate, and SPECIFIC sodas Not because i dislike the taste of most sodas, but because they do not go well with the flesh prison that is my body I cant drink Anything with caffeine, because it gives me Pounding headaches, and its not worth it I cant drink Non-Diet sodas, i have to drink Diet soda, because regular sodas give me really bad stomach cramps that feel like bad period cramps, so again not worth it But i cant even drink the Caffeine Free versions of Diet Coke or anything like that because a while ago, randomly, dark colored sodas starting ALSO giving me a Pounding headache I used to drink Caffeine free Diet Coke all the time but all of a sudden my head would hurt really badly after only 2-3 sips Same with other dark colored sodas So the only soda i drink is Diet 7up or Diet Sprite with Diet Cherry in it from Sonic, nothing else Thats not at all what you asked but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯😂😂

Summary: In which Zane is in disbelief, Cole is trying to be polite, and their daughter is curious.

“I’m his son.”
Nobody spoke.
Until Cole did. 
“You know what? How about we all head inside and settle this? Maybe help you out, get you where you need to be.” Cole clapped a hand on the teen’s shoulder. “Sound good?”
“Really? That’d be great! Thank you!” The teen smiled brightly at the invitation to come inside, like if he hadn’t just dropped a major bombshell. 
Zane felt like he had to look away. 
Cole started to unlock the front door, probably saying something else to this traveler, but he couldn’t make out the words. The jingling of the keys slowly turned into a ringing in Zane’s ears. 
He felt like he couldn’t move. His body had become cold, his head heavy, like if it was full of cotton. Everything was slow. 
Nevertheless, his mind was racing. Searching, for something, anything. 
Anything that could explain this.
His father...his father would never - would have never kept anything from him. It was always just the two of them. 
He wouldn’t. 
He couldn’t. 
He would never.
Right?
Zane.
Zane.
“Zane-”
Broken out of his trance, the blonde snapped his head back up as he took a step backward. The sudden movement caused his daughter to stir in his arms a bit before she turned her head onto his shoulder and became still once again. 
He blinked slowly, seeing Cole’s hand reached out to him.
“Let’s go inside.” 
Zane didn’t budge. He looked past his husband’s gaze, focused on the kid who was already in the doorway, looking around the entryway to the house.
Cole spoke again, in a gentle tone, trying to get through to him.
 Zane could tell. 
“Let’s get her inside, too. We can figure all this out, oka-”
He didn’t let him finish. 
“Excuse me.” Zane said, moving past the both of them and into the house. He flicked on the light switch to their living room. 
Zane gently set his daughter on the sofa and pulled out a blanket from inside the ottoman adjacent to the coffee table. Draping it over her, he could just make out Cole speaking to the person in the other room.
“Uh, sorry, it’s just been a long day, for the both of us. Have a seat at the table over there, and make yourself at home.”
The blonde sat down beside his sleeping child, and crossed his arms. He could hear Cole’s footsteps coming closer. 
He came to stand in front of Zane.
Cole opened his mouth to say something, but Zane beat him to it. 
“What are you doing?”
“What do you mean what am I doing? You’re the one that stormed off.”
Zane stood up, stepping closer towards Cole. “You’re also the one who decided to invite that - stranger - into our house!” He whispered tensely.
Cole decided to ignore the accusatory tone in his husband’s voice. He sighed. “Zane. You saw him, he’s just some lost kid. And if he really is who he says he is, then he may very well be your-”
“Don’t even finish that sentence.” Zane interjected coldly, his ice blue eyes glaring at Cole. He raised a hand to pinch the bridge of his nose, the awful feeling coming back. 
He squeezed his eyes shut. “Something’s not right here. He could be lying - or- or - just misinformed - that’s all. That’s - that’s the only logical conclusion here.”
He opened his eyes, lowering his hand away to see Cole give him a concerned look, before holding his arms out in invitation.
“Come here.”
“No, Cole.” He replaced the hand over his forehead, shielding his eyes. Trying to focus, just to keep the awful chill at bay. He closed his eyes again, taking a breath, attempting to steady himself. 
He reopened them when Cole pulled him in anyways.
Zane let his warmth envelop him.
“What was that out there?” Cole asked, softly, carefully. 
Zane snuggled into his shoulder, trying to pick out the right words. The right way to describe what he was feeling. “I-”
“Oh hello there, what’s your name?”
“Rebecca.”
Zane abruptly pulled away, turning around, only to confirm that his daughter was no longer fast asleep on the sofa.
He quickly made his way to the dining room, Cole following close behind. 
When he entered the dining room, he could see Rebecca in the doorway to the kitchen, with the teenager still sitting at the far end of the table. He sat straight back up, having scooted a bit forward to speak with his daughter. 
“Daddy,” she said, pointing at the stranger, “who is he?”
“Don’t point honey.” Cole answered instead.
“My name is Echo.” He smiled, leaning forward again, extending a hand out in greeting. 
Rebecca shyly took his hand. 
“I like your glitter flower, it’s very pretty.” 
Rebecca pulled her hand back, smiling at him.
In the light of the dining room, Zane was finally able to have a good look at...Echo? He was a stark contrast compared to Zane. Whereas Zane’s hair was so blonde it appeared white, Echo’s hair was full of chocolate curls. He had tawny brown skin, and warm honey colored eyes, while Zane was pale with icy blue eyes.
He was torn from his analysis by a pull on his pant leg.
“Papa, I want juice.”
Zane saw an opportunity to escape this situation. He could just put his daughter to bed, let Cole take care of the rest with the stranger.
Until Cole volunteered first.
“How about some milk instead to help get ready for bed?” 
Zane shot a pointed look at his husband, who in turn gave a sheepish grin and a small shrug in return. Cole walked over to the kitchen doorway where his daughter was standing. He stopped suddenly, turning around. “Echo, can I get you something? Water? Milk? Soda?”
“Soda!” Rebecca chirped.
“Not for you, silly.” Cole said, pinching her cheek playfully.
Echo let out a small laugh. “No thanks, I have some water here,” he said, tapping his backpack with his foot.
“Alright,” he said, before turning to his daughter again. “Well, miss, I’m going to get you some milk, and then straight to bed,” Cole said, smiling at his daughter. “Say goodnight, honey, then wait for me in your room.” he said, before heading into the kitchen.
Rebecca ran over to Zane, who in turn, crouched down to give her a hug.
“G’night Papa.”
“Sweet Dreams,” Zane replied, pulling back, pressing a kiss to her forehead.
Rebecca smiled, before pulling away. She glanced at Echo, waving at him. Echo returned it with a smile, before she left the room.
Now they were alone. Together.
Neither of them said anything, creating an awkward silence.
Zane chose to clasp his hands together, feigning a sudden interest in them.
“Your daughter is beautiful.”
“Yes, yes she is.” He replied quietly.
The silence returned.
Zane looked up, only to pose a question. “How long were you out there?”
“Uh, maybe an hour? Hour and a half?” Echo said, his voice trailing off as he fiddled with the sleeve of his sweatshirt.
Zane walked over to the table, pulling out the chair, to sit across from him.
“May I ask how you got here?”
Echo continued to pick at his sleeve, pulling it over his left hand. “Well, it’s kind of a long story.”
“We have time.” Zane said, standing from his seat. “Should I make tea or coffee?”

Be still my indelible friend (Overwatch)
So this is inspired by the “Love Triangle” scenario @lovely-starry-universe​ shared. (sorry it’s not TMA, @beaugtifuw​ but maybe consider it as an alternative to death?) This is also separate from my other fics.
Be still my indelible friend, you are unbreaking Though quaking, though crazy That’s just wasteland, baby ~ Hozier, “Wasteland, Baby!” Roadhog wanted to rub his eyes, aching behind his mask. He felt like he was going to sneeze, but his head throbbed and sneezing would make it worse. He really wanted to disappear into his quarters and sleep whatever this was off, without the mask so he could sneeze as necessary and blow his nose. Unfortunately he was stuck here, trying to keep Junkrat from noticing he was getting sick. 
Junkrat always noticed, even if he was in the middle of working something up for Torbjörn, or messing with one of Lena’s pulse bombs. Could be completely immersed in his work, muttering about whatever crossed his mind as he pieced things together, but the minute Roadhog started feeling off, sometimes before he actually registered the sensation in his own body, Junkrat would be there with tea or Kleenex or cough drops. Whatever Roadhog might need. Or want. No matter how many times Roadhog told him to stop - didn’t need coddling - Junkrat just shrugged and kept on. Irritating. Not a sook and rankled that Junkrat thought he was. 
Reckoned the Rat had a point, though. Hard to intimidate when one was constantly sniffling. Like he was doing right now. Just about to get up and find his own tissues when footsteps clanked down the passage outside the door and Junkrat finally looked up from his wires. Not at him, though. At the man currently leaning in the doorway.
“Oi, Lucio! Welcome back, mate. How’d it go,” Junkrat asked.
Lucio gusted a sigh. “Horrible. She’s gonna be gone for months, and as a goodbye gift she gave me her cold.”
Junkrat laughed, but not meanly. “Now that ain’t fair.” He crossed the room and pressed his hand to Lucio’s forehead. “Might be warm.”
“Eh, no big. Just feel a little under… the… weather.” His voice wavered up on the word and suddenly he pitched forward. “Hitchoo! I’tchoo!” 
“Bless ya, mate.” Junkrat tossed him a box of tissues from under a pile of detritus.
“Oh, thanks, man.” Lucio shook his head at himself. “Could’ve been a disaster.” 
“Who takes care of the medic when the medic’s feelin’ crook?”
 Lucio pulled a tragic face, but was clearly trying not to grin.  “No one, now that Hana’s away.”
“That ain’t right. Patched me up often enough, right Roadie? Only fair if I do the same. C’mere; sit.” He steered Lucio to the other side of the couch, put a blanket around his shoulders. Then he began to fill, not the kettle for tea, but the coffee pot. Lucio liked coffee. Roadhog didn’t.
 As the coffee brewed, Junkrat asked Lucio about the trip to Busan. 
Lucio made a so-so gesture. “Meeting the parents was okay - they didn’t hate me. Maybe. But Dae-hyun’s another story. I’m surprised he didn’t try to poison my soda.”
“But you’re the dead nicest person I ever met. Can’t imagine you were rude. What’d ya do?”
“He thinks it’s my fault Hana won’t be more than his friend.”
“An’ it ain’t?”
“Nah, she sees him like a brother. Anyway, we’re open. If she wanted to be with him, it’d be fine with me.”
“Huh,” Junkrat made a considering noise and Roadhog caught him looking at Lucio with an unreadable expression. Which was weird - Junkrat usually had the opposite of a poker face. Made playing cards against him profitable.
When Lucio’s voice went hoarse, Junkrat took over the conversation, making his usual terrible jokes. Going into far too much detail about the modification to Torb’s turret he was working on. Nattering. 
And Roadhog realized he was going to sneeze. Hated doing it with the mask; small as the sneezes were, still felt fucking gross. Hated more doing it with an audience. Too many comments over the years about ‘big guy, tiny sneeze’ ha ha ha fucking hilarious. Ducked his head, tried holding his breath and kept it tightly contained to just a shudder.
No one responded. Thank fuck.
Felt odd, though. Unsettled. Maybe he was getting a fever? But he didn’t have that bone deep ache yet. Just felt… not right.
The day wore on. At some point Lucio switched from coffee to orange juice. His voice was barely more than a croak. Junkrat teased him about sounding like a frog and instead of biting his head off, like Roadhog would have - well deserved, in his opinion - Lucio just laughed and pretended to eat a fly. Roadhog rolled his eyes. Immature. Both of them. 
Lucio shivered, just once, and Junkrat dug his own scarf out of another pile of random crap and wrapped it carefully around Lucio’s neck, the orange and yellow stripes shining bright against his dark skin.
“Thanks, man,” Lucio said, sincerely, a flush rising up his neck. Fever? Or something else? He put his hand on Junkrat’s arm, and Rat covered it with his own. Roadhog looked away.
Every single time Lucio sneezed, Junkrat blessed him. And at each blessing, Lucio said thanks. He didn’t get irritated, he didn’t snap or growl. He just kept Junkrat cheerful company, laughing at Rat’s jokes (even, or maybe especially, the terrible ones), making listening noises in response to his endless stories, face nuzzled down in Junkrat’s scarf. 
Finally, Junkrat noticed his head nodding forward, eyes drooping closed. “Why’nt you head to bed, mate? Ain’t gotta keep us entertained.”
Lucio yawned, stretched. “Sorry. Just exhausted suddenly. I was going to stop by the mess hall for some food first, but…” He sneezed suddenly, ducking into the scarf. “Oops! Shit. I’ll wash it before I give it back, I promise.”
“Bless ya. No worries.” Junkrat shrugged. “Saw Mei cooking some of her chicken noodle soup earlier. I’ll bring you a bowl.”
“You’re a lifesaver, Junkrat. If Mercy caught me anywhere near the mess with this cold I wouldn't have to worry about being sick for very long.”
Junkrat mimed a shudder. “Too right. Sheila only looks sweet and innocent.”
“Thanks again.” Lucio tossed a wave over his shoulder as he sauntered out. “See ya, Roadhog.”
Junkrat whistled tunelessly as he cleaned up his workbench. Roadhog struggled against another sneeze. He tried to ignore it, to think of something else, but the tickle was insistent. Fuck it. He ducked his head, sneezed once, then again. Junkrat’s whistle didn’t falter. Was focused, maybe, on what he was doing. Roadhog tried to breathe carefully, but his nose wanted to drip so he sniffed, and then he needed to sneeze again.  An annoying as shit self-perpetuating cycle. 
He glanced around the room for the box of tissues. Apparently Lucio’d taken it with him. Of fucking course. “Junkrat. Gonna head up to my quarters for a bit.” Maybe he’d be focused enough not to ask…
“Ya ain’t hungry? ‘S well past lunch. Don’t think I’ve ever heard ya turn down a meal, ‘specially when Mei’s cooking.”
Roadhog wanted to groan, but kept it to a sigh. “No, yeah. Let’s go.” He was a little hungry. He’d pick up a bowl of soup in the mess hall and when Junkrat made his delivery to Lucio he could slip off. Soup would help, and maybe then he could get sleep. Or at least a little peace and quiet.
Luckily no one was in the mess hall when they stopped by, so it was a shorter trip than if Junkrat’d had someone to talk at. Just filled their bowls and, balancing his own and Lucio’s because sometimes Rat’s mech hand had trouble with the porcelain, followed Rat to Lucio’s quarters. Shit - his nose wanted to drip. Sniffed against it, which triggered an urge to sneeze. With his hands full of soup. Balls. Couldn’t even get Junkrat’s attention, any attempt to talk and he’d lose the tenuous control he clung to. 
A breath, another breath… only a few more steps until he could hand off the bowl… and he realized he wasn’t going to make it. Stopped and braced for it and “Ht’nxxt!  Ngxxt! …. Ht’nxxt!” Let his breath out carefully. It felt like he’d exploded his sinuses, but at least he didn’t spill scalding liquid over his hands. Small mercy. Junkrat was already knocking at Lucio’s door, a rhythmic tapping that wasn’t like his usual fist at Roadhog’s door.
Lucio opened the door and a soft tune wafted out like smoke. He’d clearly been working on some new music. A pair of headphones was around his neck. He’d changed from his travel clothes into a pair of sweatpants, and an oversized sweatshirt with two laughing gingerbread men that said, “Let’s get baked.” 
“Thanks, guys. Appreciate it.” He seemed to notice Roadhog staring and glanced down, then chuckled. “It’s from Hana,” he said, as if that explained everything.  “I’d invite you in, but I’m probably contagious.”
“Ah, no need to sit around all by your lonesome, sick an’ miserable. I never get sick. And Roadie’s already got it. He’s been sneezing all day.” Junkrat waved a hand at Roadhog dismissively. 
“Oh, sorry Roadhog! I didn’t know you were sick.”
“Ain’t nothing,” he mumbled. So Junkrat knew? And hadn’t said anything? Hadn’t even blessed him once? What the hell? 
Lucio stepped back to let them in and, with no idea how to bow out gracefully, Roadhog followed. The room was dark, lit only by a few strings of colorful fairy lights. Lucio’d made himself a nest on the couch, pillows and blankets and his laptop. His sound system sent out a low bass beat, overlaid with electronic melody and a voice that sounded almost like Hana, singing something he couldn't make out. In the corner of the room was an altar with a buddha statue and a candle lit in front. He let Junkrat take the spot next to Lucio on the couch, and sat on an arm chair across from them. It was a surprisingly welcoming space and Roadhog found himself relaxing, almost against his will. 
Junkrat made himself useful, cleaning up the dishes when they’d finished eating. Making sure Lucio was comfortable, that he had a glass of water and tissues in easy reach. When Lucio yawned, Junkrat pulled him close, to lean against his shoulder. He launched into some ridiculous, and likely embellished, story about a heist he’d pulled on the Queen of Junkertown sometime in the years before he and Roadhog started working together. Lucio made impressed noises, egging him on, and each story got less likely than the last. 
And then Lucio turned away from Junkrat, sneezing again. “Hitchoo! I’tchoo! Ugh, excuse me. I’m so gross.” He blew his nose.
“Bless ya. And no ya ain’t. Least ya got a normal sneeze, not like me. I sneeze like a bomb going off.” Junkrat tugged him close again and Lucio relaxed against his side, laughing.
“It’s true, though. An’ apparently size don’t matter in these things ‘cause Roadie sneezes like a kitten.”
Roadhog felt himself going red under the mask. He really, really did not want to be having this conversation. Not with Lucio, and not with the tickle that was building again. “Could you not make fun of me for five fucking minutes? Damn, Junkrat.”
“Don’t be such a touchy bastard. Ya know I don’t mean nothing by it.”
He wanted to keep arguing, to cuss Junkrat out for being such an asshole, especially while he was just as sick as Lucio, but part of him wondered whether he might, actually, be overreacting. Worse, he was pretty sure he was going to sneeze. He raised a wrist to the nose of his mask, like that was somehow going to help, but the tickle was too strong to  be contained. “Huh… chu! Chu! Chu!” Kept his head down when he finished because Junkrat was right, he did sneeze like a fucking kitten and he hated it. Hated that Junkrat teased him about it, hated that Lucio was there to hear it, hated that he hadn’t just gone to his quarters before Lucio ever got back from Busan.
“Bless you, Roadhog,” Lucio said after a couple beats of silence. And that just made it worse. Lucio blessing him, not Junkrat. 
The cold must be fucking him up more than he thought, because everything just felt like shit suddenly. His head hurt and his body hurt and his eyes hurt. He needed to blow his nose but then he’d have to take off his mask and Lucio would see all the fucking scars and he’d ask too many questions because he wouldn’t know not to and what could he possibly say? And Junkrat was ignoring him and paying attention to Lucio and he fucking hated that and he didn’t know why it bothered him so much and he didn’t want it to bother him, but it did, bothered him like a blister his boot kept rubbing over and over. Irritating and painful and it was just one more thing on top of everything and he hated it. Because Junkrat was his friend first. Was his first… but Lucio was so much nicer about everything. So much kinder and softer and not at all an asshole.
Suddenly he felt a hand on his shoulder and he realized he’d been shaking, just a little. “Ya okay, Hoggie?” Junkrat’s voice was unusually soft, almost gentle.
“Fine,” he said, but the attempted sharpness was blunted with congestion and he coughed. And he didn’t push away Rat’s hand.
“No, ya ain’t.” Junkrat stood between Roadhog and Lucio, and carefully loosened the mask then lifted it away from his face, slow enough to be stopped. Roadhog didn’t. Then, just as carefully, Junkrat took a Kleenex and wiped Roadie’s eyes. Then his nose. Roadhog sighed and rested his forehead on Junkrat’s belly. “Hey, hey. What’s this, then? Thought ya didn’t want any attention when you’re sick.”
“Thought not, too,” he mumbled without moving. 
“Ya jealous.” There was the lilt of laughter in the words.
Roadhog shrugged. “Maybe.”
“Ya are!  Ain’t no reason for it! Might be mean as cat’s piss when yer sick, but it don’t matter. You’re my Hog, an’ that’s the way of it.”
 “But Lucio…”
“Reckon I can take care of ya both. Yeah?”
Roadhog nodded, and when Junkrat stepped aside, Roadhog kept the mask off and Lucio didn’t ask about the scars, or make any comment at all. He just smiled and offered a movie night and that was how they ended up sprawled across Lucio’s bed, Roadhog on one side, Lucio on the other and Junkrat between them, arms around them both. Sometime in the middle of the movie, they dozed off, warm and comfortable.

Chapter 14: Finding Vixen
 -Vixen-
   “Wow, things are moving quickly.”
   You spun around the construction site the crew was making progress with the space that would be your restaurant. You couldn’t believe in a matter of weeks what was happening.
   “Things move quickly when everything aligns,” Zack responded from behind you. You looked to him and smiled, but as you stared at him, you only saw one face looking back at you. The smile slipped from your lips, and you gulped down the emotion threatening to spill out. Turning your back, you tried your best to pull yourself together.
    “You okay Vixen?”
   Clearing your throat, you nodded as you took a few steps away to what would or could be the spot for the outdoor eating spot. You bit your bottom lip, while a swell of pride and accomplishment fulled you, sadness and a feeling of being overwhelmed flooded you as well. It had been four days since you’d seen Chris, four days since your entire world had come crashing down, four days since the feelings you thought were long gone surfaced again, four days since the encounter you’d always dreaded and planned would go smoothly went the opposite. Sighing you took a deep breath and turned to face Zack, Kassius and the small team that was assembled for your expansion.
 “Are you happy with this so far? Any suggestions?”
   Glancing around you took in the demolition that looked just to have begun. You shook your head.
   “No, this looks to be the beginning nothing much to make suggestions on. I’d like to look at it again once it’s cleared out, just want to make sure everything transitions right.”
   “Absolutely. I’ve seen Giovanni’s in San Fran; I can imagine how particular you are about the visual of your restaurant. As long as we’re on schedule, things should be clear in another day or two,” Timothy one of the members of the team said.
   You nodded and made your way to the front door as everyone else followed. When you stepped out into the LA sun, you placed your sunglasses on your nose. Zack approached beside you and put his hand on the small of your back.
   “Are you sure you’re okay?”
   “Yes, I’m fine. I just haven’t gotten a lot of sleep the last few days, and it’s always a hassle moving in.”
   Zack nodded and slowly rubbed your back. You tried not to shy away from his touch.
   “I can treat you to a relaxing night, dinner, a drink, maybe a massage.”
   He smiled softly, and you felt the genuineness of his offer, but you knew it wasn’t something you were going to pass on. You smiled, hoping to soften the blow.
  “You’re so sweet Zack, I appreciate it, I really do, but since the move, Ella hasn’t gotten back to her regular sleeping schedule I need to focus on her right now. I’m sorry.”
  He looked as if he were trying to swallow the rejection. You hoped he wouldn’t make it a big thing. In all truth, while you liked his company, you really didn’t want to date. You didn’t feel much of anything for anyone, except him. Zack nodded, looked down, and nodded some more.
   “I understand. You’re a mom first. It’s admirable. I’m not going to lie and say I’m not disappointed, but I understand. Just uh—I want you to know that I like you Vixen, I didn’t expect it, but there it is. I would like to get to know you better really try to build something with you.”
   “Uuugh, jeez Vix. What do you say to that?”
   After you looked around you taking notice of how close the others were you decided now wasn’t the right place to let him down. You also didn’t want to lead him on.
   “All right Vixen, so we’re going to schedule another walk through once all demo is done, and we’ll make some decisions. I have a few mocks for you to look over and hopefully by then we’ll have some ideas,” Kassius said.
   “Yes, I’ll look over these.”
   You took the folder that looked thicker than a George A. Romano novel and bugged your eyes out.
  “Good lord.”
   “Yes, a lot of decisions to be made, this is the fun part,” he finished with a broad smile on his face.
   “I’ll see you then. Are you coming, Zack? We’re still on for golf?”
   Zack looked at you and nodded once he realized you weren’t going to respond to his declaration. You were glad your shades were darker than the midnight sky because your eyes weren’t hiding anything.
   “Yeah. I’ll call you,” Zack said before he walked to Kassius and the two walked off to Kassius’ bright red sports car. You nodded your head to the rest of the team and made your way to your rental car.
   You looked into the mirror and shook your head before you started your engine to begin on your to-do list. At the top was picking up some more groceries, then some office supplies and then to pick up some stuff for Ella. You hated the grocery places around the house; they were overpriced for no reason, and the produce never looked fresh. That meant you were going to drive over five miles to get to the supermarket Zack told you about—Gleason’s.
   As you drove your mind drifted back to seeing Chris. The last time you’d seen him, you’d told him to have a nice life. You were pissed and hurt, and it seemed like a good enough thing to say. Shit, you didn’t even know why you were pissed, you brought it on yourself. You were stupid enough to think that there was anything possible between the two of you.
   You should have known better. The way he carried himself, the way he spoke, and dressed it screamed bachelor, screamed down for a good time and nothing more. Every alarm rang off in your head about him the minute you saw him at the table. Everything in you screamed “don’t,” but the other voice in you said, “just do it, it’s Vegas.” Yeah well, “it’s Vegas” turned into a kid and haunting memories. That didn’t change the fact that he was still gorgeous and his shoulders were bigger than ever.
   “Of course he had to be gorgeous. Of course he couldn’t turn ugly or have gained thirty pounds of fat. No, he got sexy as fuck and gained thirty pounds of muscle.”
   You groaned loudly and focused again on the GPS that predicted you’d reach your destination in five minutes. Once you parked in the lot, you roamed the aisles pushing the cart before you.

  “Black tea, herbal tea, coffee, check.” You dropped the items in the cart and went perusing down the next.
   “Rice Krispies, honey bunches of oats, oatmeal, flour, food coloring, sugar, yeast, check.”
   You turned down the refrigerator aisle to scan for eggs, milk, butter, cheese, yogurt, orange juice, coffee creamer, jello, cream cheese, and that disgusting iced coffee drink Nexus loved. With your list about half done you allowed yourself to get distracted in the produce section where they held fresh flowers. You loved fresh flowers. There were pink, red, blue, yellow and even white flowers of all varieties. You decided on two beautiful assortments of pink and yellow roses and a separate one of pink orchids, you loved orchids. Tipping your head down to take a whiff of the fragrant flowers you looked over to the other side of the section and saw the actor Nexus was losing her mind over—Anthony Mackie. Quickly putting the flowers in your cart you made a u-turn to get back on track, you definitely didn’t want a run in.
   Just as you thought you were safe in the bread aisle holding two selections of bread, one you liked and one Ella couldn’t get enough of you you saw him. Your legs thought you had time to make another getaway, but your brain knew better, he saw you too. Anthony approached you with a friendly smile on his face as he tipped his hat lower. You knew it was pointless, but you still turned and rolled out the aisle. As soon as you made it to the soda and water aisle, he was at your side.
   “Vixen right?”
   Sighing, you nodded. “That’s right.”
   “I’m going to say you didn’t see me, that’s why you walked away; otherwise, that was rude.”
   You snorted and shook your head. He had to be kidding.
   “I was trying to protect your incognito look. I’m thinking if these people knew they were walking next to The Falcon himself they’d draw a scene and there goes your disguise. By the way, that’s a horrible disguise.”
   Anthony chuckled and nodded his head.
   “Of course you’re as snarky as your sister. Speaking of, how is she? Is she here?”
   You looked at Anthony as he quickly looked up and down the aisle as if looking for her. Scoffing again you responded, “No, she’s not here. Why does it matter?”.
   “Just curious.”
   “Bullshit!”
   You laughed out loud and pushed the cart further and placed other items in your cart. “I can see right through you. Looks like another one bites the dust.”
   “Another one bites the dust? What does that mean?”
   “It means you’ve been hit with the Nexus haze. Almost every man that speaks to her for any amount of time falls under her spell. You Mr big-time movie star are no different.”
   Anthony smiled and shrugged, but he didn’t look as smug as he usually did, no this time he looked as if he felt threatened as if he were worried. He should be Nexus wasn’t half a woman like these barbie doll actresses and models she was one hundred percent that bitch and she was a force to be reckoned with. The two of you walked in silence for a few feet.
   “So, I learned a fun fact recently. You’d never believe it,” Anthony began.
   “Oh yeah, what fun fact is that?”
   “Three years ago, a woman went to Vegas for some fun and ended marrying Captain America himself.” Your brain failed to communicate with your legs, and you just stopped in the middle of the aisle.
   “He told him. Shit!”
   “But you believe it, because—,” Anthony leaned into your ear and whispered. “You are that woman.”
   You looked to him, unsure what to say. You could deny, deny, deny, but you were sure Chris was the one to tell him. You sighed again.
   “Don’t worry, he’s my best friend, your secret is safe with me.” You walked again and turned down another aisle.
   “Was it shock that had you running like a bat outta hell, or was it something else? Do you hate him?”
   “I hate no one; there is no time for all of that. I have too many things to accomplish.”
  “Okay, a mature one. He lucked out,” Anthony joked. The humor of it was lost on you. You didn’t bother laughing or smiling about it either.
   “It was good seeing you again, take care,” you rushed out as you walked to the cash-out. You didn’t know if you’d gotten everything, but you needed to get out of there. It was insane; every second you spent around him, you felt it was only a matter of time before he saw the truth through your eyes, or seeping from your pores.
   You unloaded the groceries on the belt then saw Anthony help. Rolling your eyes, you stayed quiet.
   “How do you feel about seeing him again after so long?”
   Groaning you turned to him your frustrations seeped out. “What’s it to you? What’s with all the questions? We did what we did, but we also went through with the divorce, it’s all water under the bridge now. No need to keep talking about it.”
   Anthony studied you as you continued to unload the groceries so the cashier could do her job. You were usually good at keeping your emotions in check, but everything was becoming a lot more difficult. You hated it.
   “Whew, that sounds like a lot of hurt and anger, years worth of it. Maybe not so much water under the bridge, huh.” Antony’s eyes bored into you, and you narrowed yours. Anthony nodded again and stepped back.
   “Take care of yourself Vixen. Oh, and could you give your sister a message for me? Tell her I didn’t mean to hurt her, I didn’t plan on it. I was telling her the truth.”
   As quickly as he appeared, he disappeared, allowing you to focus again. You moved as quickly as you could to wrap up the rest of your errands. By the time you made it home, the sun was down, and you had a car full of shit. After thirty minutes of unloading and unpacking, you dropped onto the couch to catch your breath. Ella ran to you, you quickly scooped her up and dropped kiss after kiss across her face. She released an uproar of giggles that made your heart swell.
   “Top, top, top!”
   “No, no, no, take all mommy’s kisses, take them all!”
   Her laughter filled the entire room, and soon, Nexus was beside you holding Ella down as she tickled her small ribs. This only made her wiggle and scream even more. The two of you slowly stopped, and Ella settled down comfortably in your arms, holding tightly to you.
  “Long day?”
   You looked to Nexus and nodded.
   “That’s a big book.”
   “It is, and I have a few more days to look through and find my aesthetic for the next round of meetings. Things are moving fast. Maybe we can be in and out of LA sooner than I thought.”
   Nex gave you a look that said: “be real, aren’t you forgetting something.” You ignored it and flipped through the design pages.
   “Vixen.”
   “What do you think of this one? It’s airy and modern but still has a traditional vibe.”
   Flipping to another page, you have the book your full attention. Seeing another contender, you showed your sister.
   “Ooh, this looks very modern like a real celebrity restaurant. Doesn’t say much to traditional comfort but what the hell step into the times, right.”
   “Vixen!”
   “What!?”
   “You know what,” Nexus exasperated. You shrugged and continued to flip the pages determined not to address what Nex clearly wanted you to.
   “Vixen, you know damn well you can’t leave LA without telling Chris about Ella.” You groaned and rolled your eyes.
   You knew you shouldn’t have told her shit. Now it would be even harder to ignore the shoulds. When you didn’t answer after a few minutes, she took the heavy binder off your lap and placed it on the side table nearest her. Groaning you stood and walked back in the kitchen to busy yourself, hoping it would distract you. You took out the meat for the meatballs you planned on making to accompany the spaghetti—Ella’s favorite. Refusing to take the hint, Nex walked in and crossed her arms before the island. You knew ignoring her would only work for so long, but you were going to milk it for every second you could.
   You took out the flour and the other ingredients to make your signature pasta. Once you opened the fridge to grab some tomatoes and herbs for your sauce and closed the door, you came face to face with Nexus’ annoyed face. You snorted unable to hide your amusement.
   “This isn’t funny Vix. It’s serious and a huge thing. It’s not just your life; you’re impacting. There are two other people, one small who cannot make a decision and the other who--,”
   “Who what Nex? You don’t know him. You don’t know what he’s really like,” you blurted out slamming the cutlery drawer a tad harder than you intended.
    “What the hell does that mean?”
   Again you ignored her and began washing your produce, focusing on getting every invisible speck of dirt. You’d told her the cliff notes version, beginning, middle, then end. You didn’t tell her the in between. You didn’t want to relive it out loud, you were fine keeping it a trip you took every night before you went to sleep. Once the produce was washed, you got to work chopping and dicing. You knew you were stressed because the knife was moving faster than ever and you knew she saw it too.
   “I’m waiting. What does that mean? What is he really like?”
   Kissing your teeth, you shook your head, “Forget it, Nex; it’s not important.”
   “Clearly it is. There has to be a reason why you never told him about her, a reason you never claimed the child support that was rightfully yours. You know you could have used it while you were pregnant and the parts of the first year. Why? Did he hurt you? does he hit women?”
   Nex shifted her stance, and you knew she was ready to pop off. She’d always been your keeper, your protector. You remembered a few girls she’d seriously beat down because they looked at you wrong across the playground. You sighed out, taking a pause with the chopping to give her a reassuring look.
   “No, he didn’t hit me.” You saw her shoulders relax and her expression softening; then you returned to the task at hand.
   “So he didn’t hit you. He did hurt you though.”
   Nexus was no idiot. She knew how to hear what you said and decipher what you didn’t. You did your best to give no reaction as you moved around the kitchen.
   “Okay, I get it. You didn’t tell him to spite him.”
   “No!”
   Though you adamantly rebuked that, part of you felt a way and you wondered if any part of you felt that way.
   “Okay. So he hurt you, you ran back home with your tail tucked, and you hid away for the next near three years. What did he do?”
   “Nex, please. It’s not important. Let’s drop it.”
   “I’m trying to help. You seem to be ignoring or purposely forgetting that you have to tell him. I owe him nothing, and I don’t know him from Adam and my loyalties don’t lie with him that’s with you--,”
   “So drop it. Have my back, be my pitbull!”
   “Vix, don’t ever get it twisted and think I’m not riding for you one hundred. It’s always been you and me against the world, and it’s still that way. Just—this goes past that. This is a morally right and wrong issue. How would you feel not knowing you had a mini replica of you running around the world?”
   “Fine, because I wouldn’t know.” Nexus walked around the island to you and put her arm around you. She could sense your breakdown was imminent. She gently rubbed your bare arm and let the silence fill the room. You closed your eyes, hoping to stop your warring thoughts. Of course part of you knew what she was saying was sound and right, but the other side refused to hear it.
   “You’re afraid,” Nexus worded.
   There it was plain as day, no hidden pretenses, no shade, no covers, just blatant truth. You were afraid. You were shitfaced scared.
   “It’s okay to be scared. There is nothing wrong with it. Hell if you weren’t scared I’d be worried because that would show that you really have no intention of doing the right thing. I know you, Vix, do the right thing is your middle name. Somewhere inside you know you have to tell him, want to or not, have to and should outweigh it this time.”
   “This is why I didn’t want to go to that stupid expo or come to this dumb place. It has a way of stealing and crushing dreams,” you groaned out.
   “Or realigning them and showing you a new, different, better dream.”
   You glanced at Nexus, took a deep breath, and released it. She was right — bottom line.
   “Fuck!”

   It wasn’t hard to get. All he had to do was google her and her location. He had all her information from three years ago. He had her full name, city, state, P.O Box information. In truth, he had everything he needed, and if he needed more, he could easily get more, it was a perk of being him. In all the years he didn’t use it, didn’t search, didn’t allow his curiosity to take over. Today he did.
   It took him less than a minute to find her on Google, her name was uncommon, there was literally one Vixen Giovanni in San Francisco. It took him another minute to find her restaurant. Her restaurant. He was impressed. She said she wanted to open a restaurant and be a chef and she’d accomplished it, and she was successful. He spent nearly twenty minutes just looking through food reviews, articles, and pictures all of her and everything he remembered thinking and feeling those years ago came back.
   He suspected it would be like this—feared it really which made him avoid doing this very thing for so long. He was afraid he was right, and he was. It took him the next hour to get the balls to call the number for her restaurant. An hour where he went over and over what he would say. He didn’t know where you were; it had been nearly a week since he saw you, you could have gone back to San Francisco.
   He went over and over what he would say if you answered. He didn’t know if he should go with a calm and cool introduction; “Hey Vixen, remember me your ex-husband,” or an apologetic one; “I know I’m probably the last person you want to hear from but—.” It was impossible to read you from the quick exchange days ago. You hadn’t spoken, you didn’t look angry, or happy or anything, your expression was blank, and then you were gone. He didn’t know what to expect.
   When hour two was near, he bit the bullet and dialed your restaurant. The hostess transferred him to the manager who informed him you were out of town. Due to his quick thinking, he pretended to be interested in a potential business opportunity, it was then the manager gave him your cell phone number. He was surprised it was that easy. Now that was where he was, staring at your number with a bottle of beer on his right side, whiskey on the other and a joint in his hand. He leaned back and took several long puffs before holding them for a breath allowing the drug to haze away all his thoughts. Once he blew out the smoke, he took a long swig of his beer.
   “Jesus Chris, it’s not hard, just dial the number. One step at a time.”
   He took up his phone and punched in the numbers and hovered his finger over the green button, thinking about his actions one last time. Taking another long pull from his joint, he tapped the button and put it on speaker. It rang once, twice, three times and before he tapped the red button to end the call, a voice called out through the line.
   “Hello?”
   His brain froze, and speech did with it, so he sat there completely flustered.
   “Hello? Anyone there?”
   Still, he didn’t speak. Only when the line went dead did he move, he dropped back against the couch and groaned loudly into the night sky.
   “Come on, man!”

Blundering Fools
As Tony watched Scott snore quietly on the couch, he wondered why he hadn't bothered to revert the common room a few floors below into something else. The team never used it. They always hung out on the family floor, so the common room was just collecting dust at this point. Maybe he could make it into some extra living space? The tower was filling up, and Tony already had to stick Quill with Scott when the space pirate arrived just a few months ago. To his luck, the two got along fantastically and Quill probably wouldn't need his own floor. Scott had an extra room anyway.
The space pirate himself steps off the elevator when it arrives and he strides over to Scott and drops a bag of fast food onto the sleeping man's stomach. Scott jolts out of his nap at the sudden disturbance, and he rubs the sleep from his eyes as Quill moves his feet just enough to sit down. Tony watches in surprise when Scott puts his socked feet in Quill's lap and fishes his French fries out of the bag as the other man changes the channel on the tv. It was like they had skipped dating and went straight to being married, but they didn't even know they were in a relationship. Which they weren't, but they might as well be.
Stephen steps up next to Tony and watches the duo on the couch for a few moments before glancing over at his husband. "Are they dating?" He asks quietly so Quill and Scott don't hear him.
"Uh...no. I think they skipped straight to marriage." Tony half jokes.
The sorcerer chuckles. "If I didn't know any better, I might have believed you." He walks over to the stove to start heating up some water.
"I almost can't believe they're this oblivious. Even Cap noticed."
"Ignorance is bliss I suppose."
Stephen makes his tea and both he and Tony join the other two in the living room, Stephen with a crossword puzzle, and Tony with his tablet. His attention was split in between it and the tv though. Neither Scott nor Quill moved when the married couple joined them, but Scott did eventually sit up with only a couple inches separating him from Quill when he discovered eating a hamburger while laying down was a little hard. It was Quill's next move that almost had Tony and Stephen groaning in frustration though. He picked up one of the sodas and took a sip from the straw and immediately furrowed his brows before holding it over to the ex-criminal.
"Hey Scotty. I think I grabbed yours by mistake."
What Scott did next wasn't much better. He had taken the offered soda and also took a sip from the straw.
"Mmm...yeah. This is mine. Here." He grabs the other cup off the coffee table and hands it to Quill. It took a couple of seconds for him to notice that Tony and Stephen were staring at them in bewilderment. "What?"
Tony clears his throat. "Just surprised to see you drinking something other than juice." He lies easily.
Scott snorts. "I do like variety here and there."
"Could have fooled me."
All but Stephen return their attention to the show playing on the television, and the sorcerer takes a sip of his tea as he fills in an answer.
"I think he's gay." Quill says as he motions to the show.
"No. Not him. He's got a wife and kids." Scott replies.
"Really? Man. I'm usually pretty good at noticing things like that."
Stephen chokes on his tea and Tony bursts into laughter. These two had to be yanking their chain. Maybe they were secretly dating and were trying to see how long they could have fun with it, but when Stephen recovered and looked over at the pair, he was met with an incredulous look. So they were serious. Their entire relationship was painful to watch but at the same time, everyone found it hilarious. The rest of the team made bets on how long it would take them to figure it out, but it still looked like it would be a while yet. If ever.
"It uh...went down the wrong pipe." Stephen explains lamely and the other two shrug and go back to watching tv. Completely ignoring Tony who was only now calming down from his fit of giggles.
Like all moments of peace though, it had to end. Alarms blared through the tower, and all four men snap their heads up or to attention from their activities.
"Another alien attack Boss." FRIDAY tells him through the speakers.
Tony groans. "Seriously? Do they not know we killed Thanos? You would think that would scare everything away forever."
"Spiderman is already on the scene."
"What?!" Both Stephen and Tony shout. "He should be at school right now!" The sorcerer adds as he stands and Levi settles on his shoulders.
"Yell at him when we get there." Tony says as he stands and activates his suit. "Porcupine and Thumbelina, suit up. FRIDAY let the others know and have them meet us."
"Right away." She responds.
Tony and Stephen step through a portal that the doctor opens and it closes behind them just as Tony steps in front of Stephen. His suit forms a shield on his arm and blocks the laser pulse aiming for the sorcerer and he shoots the alien with his own repulsor beam before looking back at his lover.
"Honey, do me a favor and wear your suit."
"I always do." Stephen responds fondly as he taps his bracelet and his suit covers him.
A small group of aliens approach them, and just as the pair ready their attacks, a car comes flying out of the sky and it crushes the aliens beneath it. They look up to find the one responsible for throwing the vehicle and find Peter in his suit, crouching on top of a streetlamp. The teen perks up when Stephen sighs heavily over the comm, but then flinches at the sorcerer's next words.
"Peter Benjamin Stark-Strange!"
"What did I do?!"
"Why aren't you in class?"
"Oh! The school was evacuated so I'm not missing anything." He webs a few more approaching aliens against a nearby building. "I got separated from Harley though."
Tony flies off to help set up a perimeter and Stephen and Peter deal with the aliens as the rest of the team arrive to help. Quill was the first to arrive, and he had taken out one of the enemies trying to sneak up on Stephen, and to the doctor's very brief confusion, the space pirate seemingly flicked his own shoulder. Then he realized he was flicking Scott toward an enemy. The ex-con grew to normal size to punch an unsuspecting alien, and the battle continued with more of the Avengers joining them. All but Bruce that is. They tried to keep him ready for possible injured friends that Stephen would portal to him, and if they were too injured to move, the sorcerer would stabilize them first before sending them to Bruce.
But then a large flying creature, much like the ones from the Chitauri invasion and the battle with Thanos, showed up and Stephen could hear Tony's breath hitch over the comm. Nobody liked those things and this monster wasn't any better. There was only one person who could deal with that thing.
"Stuart Little. You seeing what I'm seeing?" The engineer asks as he has FRIDAY scan for possible weak points, but she gave him a negative.
Scott kicks away an alien and backs up until his back is flush with Quill's and looks up. "Man, can we have one battle where I don't have to personally hulk out?"
"Apparently not. You're up Thumbelina...and keep it in the Hudson!"
Quill looks over his shoulder after shooting a couple of aliens. "He wants you to deal with that thing? Am I missing something?"
"Make room Spaceman."
"Room for what?!"
Scott rolls his eyes and presses a button on his suit and Quill stumbles back when the ex-criminal grows to over sixty feet and punches the flying creature into the Hudson River before following it. The pirate recovers from his shock just in time to duck a blast to his head and he takes out the creatures swarming him as he keeps one eye on his floormate. Scott was wrestling with the large flying alien until it thrashed around and sent them both under the water with a large splash. Long seconds pass and when the water partially settles, Steve speaks over comm.
"He's not coming back up!"
"Growing like that puts stress on his body! That combined with the limited air supply his helmet has-" Stephen starts, but he stops when Quill flies out from the aliens surrounding him, barely glancing back to throw a grenade in the center of the circle.
It explodes and kills all of the aliens as he flies toward the river, and the outlaw doesn't hesitate to activate his helmet before diving into the water. Using his jet boots he swims down to the obvious giant figure of Scott and presses the button he knew would shrink the man back to normal size. Once Scott is at a movable size again, Quill grabs the unconscious man and swims back up to the surface, where he pulls Scott back onto land.
He kneels next to Scott and presses another button to remove his helmet and gently smacks his cheek. "Come on Scotty. It'll be really lame to be the only member of the Pining Club."
Antman coughs and turns on his side to spit out the water and then groans tiredly. "The Pining Club is lame no matter how many members are in it."
Quill grins. "Try not to remind me." The grin slowly falls away and his hands hover over Scott's body as he looks for injuries. "Are you hurt?"
"Don't think so." Scott mumbles tiredly. "Gonna rest my eyes for a couple of seconds."
Then he was asleep. Actually, it was more like he passed out, but now Quill had to protect him from some aliens that noticed the two stragglers. He didn't have much room to maneuver because he wouldn't step too far away from Scott's prone form, so instead he planted a foot on either side of his floormate and shot the aliens. At least in this position, they couldn't get to Scott as easily.
"Guys! Scotty is down and I've got a few of these assholes coming after us!" Quill informs the team.
An arrow pierces through the head of an alien behind the space outlaw. "I've got your six Quill."
Quill shoots a few more aliens and then grabs a loose piece of rebar nearby when an alien throws a grenade at him. He hits the grenade back toward the alien and blows it up as well as its allies and Clint laughs.
"Damn Quill! You gave a whole new meaning to a grand slam!"
"These chucklefucks have no idea who they're messing with." Starlord growls.
"An angry lover?" The archer says and Quill looks up in Clint's direction on a nearby building.
"What?"
"What?" Barton repeats innocently.
The battle ends after another half hour when Thor summons lightning to kill off the remaining aliens, and Quill bends down from his position over Scott to check the still unconscious man for wounds again. Stephen soon joins him and checks Scott's pulse before turning to open a portal to Scott's floor at the tower.
"He needs rest. Clint, come help-"
"It's okay." Quill interrupts. "I got him." He moves to one side of Scott and lifts the man into his arms before walking through the portal with Stephen.
The doctor moves ahead of him to open the door to Scott's room and when Quill steps in and manages to lay the ex-criminal on his bed, Stephen motions toward the sleeping man.
"Help me get his suit off."
Quill's eyes widen. "Wait, what?"
"He wears it over his clothes." Stephen assures as he starts to remove Scott's suit, and Quill helps him.
"Damn, he's dead to the world."
"That's what happens if he stays in his giant form too long."
"I didn't know he can do that."
Stephen raises an eyebrow when he looks up at him. "He did it in the battle against Thanos."
"Guess I missed it."
They pull back the covers, properly place them over Scott, and then leave the room to go up to the family floor after some reassurance from Stephen that his floormate will be okay by himself. Once they reach the penthouse, Stephen rushes forward when they find Harley sitting at the kitchen table and holding an ice pack to his temple. While the sorcerer fussed over the small cuts littered over the teen's body, Quill returned to his previously vacated spot on the couch and Tony and Peter were some of the first to get back.
"Harley! I'm so sorry! I couldn't find you-" Peter rambles and the older teen waves his hand at the younger.
"It's fine. Don't freak out."
Tony disengages his suit and joins Stephen. "What happened?"
"Just got hit with some shrapnel. It's not that big of a deal." Harley says with a heavy sigh. "Stephen already took care of it."
The doctor nods. "He's alright Tony. Just some scratches."
The engineer grumbles and rubs his eyes tiredly. "Getting real sick of alien invasions."
Quill laughs half-heartedly from the living room. "Sounds like a regular Wednesday afternoon."
It seemed to be true, too. Hardly anyone blinked at the mention of an alien invasion or Hydra crawling out of the cracks like roaches. They just dealt with it and came back home for a well deserved dinner, or even lunch if they took care of the crisis fast enough. Which was exactly what happened as soon as Bucky made it back. They all had an after battle routine. Check to make sure any injured were alright, then head up to the penthouse for food, rest, and sometimes even a movie to wind down and lick their wounds.
With Wanda's help, Bucky made dinner for everyone and they all ate throughout the floor, and even Scott had managed to join them. Of course, he was still exhausted and it took him a little effort to stay awake, but he got his food and subconsciously sat next to Quill and ate. There were a couple of times Scott almost passed out into his food, but both Quill and Natasha kept him awake long enough to finish his dinner. After that, the space pirate had to help the ex-criminal back down to their floor since he was stumbling, and when the elevator doors closed behind them, Clint groaned. Loudly.
"Can we intervene yet?"
Sam scowls. "No way. I've got money sitting on another month."
"You didn't see Quill standing possessively over Scott."
"Really?" Natasha asks with a bit of surprise. "Maybe he'll figure it out first."
"You know...even though he has a Master's degree in electrical engineering, Scott can be really dumb." Peter says and Cassie nods beside him.
"I kind of have to agree...and I live on the floor with them."
Harley takes the biscuit out of Peter's hand when the younger teen picks it up. "Brain smart and street smart are different things."
Sam snorts. "This is a whole different type of smart and Tic-tac is on the stupid end of the scale."
"They both are." Rhodey adds in agreement.
Tony laughs. "One more month. Then we can talk about a subtle intervention."
"Subtle will take forever, love." Stephen chuckles.
"Very true. We'll just throw them in a closet and be done with it."
"That just takes the fun out of it." Harley mutters.
The time was agreed on though. One more month of watching Quill and Scott unknowingly flirt with each other, and then they would talk about what to do next if the morons didn't connect the dots.
The Avengers were turning into matchmakers.
