Hello there... Who’s this handsome guy? 🤔 May I introduce you to Trent, my main character’s twin brother. He loves making and welding things. When he’s not working, he enjoys teasing his sister and playing tag on their hydro-scooters after curfew. He’s been my sneaky character, the one who I didn’t know well when I wrote the first draft of my book. Platform no. 3

Colours , I see colours and textures around me. The scent of the hot wires and every spark that tames the perpetual falling and forever running metro. There are people, all sorts of people, eagerly waiting, clearly losing their patience and people, standing so still in their own melancholy of mind. The odour, oh, the odour mixed with the array of perfumes. People chattering, some loud, some discreet. Those glooming, little eyes. Waiting to see the choo choo and hopping on it. Them running around the station as if no one is watching. The rush and chaos, the horn of the metro brings. The pulling, pushing, rubbing of the passengers to get in this one train. Finally inside, searching for the empty seats for there are none. Even when standing, the odour follows. People peeking into your phones and over hearing your conversations. The chaos subsides, as the horn goes again, signalling the departing of the train. The platform No. 3 , standing there, still, lifeless, waiting for the next set of passengers, to feel again what it's been feeling for all these years, not murmuring, never murmuring.

As a full-time employee at work and a part-time writer at home (among other unofficial titles my wife has for me, like: plumber, tech support, doctor, astrophysicist, etc.) like you, I suffer from a lack of time. Or at least the *feeling* that I never have enough time. I know we all get the same 24 hours per day (see: astrophysicist), but they must be immortals, right? 🧛‍♀️ ¶ One of the things that helped me out—when feeling down about this struggle—was recently listening to my very first Spotify podcast so far It’s from Amie McNee’s (@inspiredtowrite) "Unpublished" podcast, titled “Rebelling, Reprogramming and Rebirth with Brooke Solis.” (@brookesolis). 🎧 In it these two incredible women discussed their thoughts, feelings, and philosophies on art: creating it, living off of it, and the culture surrounding it. 🎨 ¶ One of the big take-aways from listening to it was: I don't have to work like everyone else. Don't bring the arbitrary 9-5 mindset into your creative pursuits. Figure out how you work best and do that. 🤯 This was appropriately mind-blowing to me because the way I tend to get away with working—short bursts of creativity and long rest periods—looks a lot like slacking or procrastinating. While long, focused work sessions and short breaks allow me to too-easily get distracted or interrupted. ¶ As always, there isn't enough room here to talk about it—but there is on my blog!
