Miguel O'Hara Parenting Head Canons pt 2

Thank you to everyone that liked the original post! I thought of more so here's part 2 of headcanons for Miguel related to parenting bc the man deserves to be happy and way more dad moments tbh. Reader is his s/o.

Part 1:

-once again I feel it doesn't matter if you want kids with him or not because anyone who he's in love with, he just wants a life with them and as long as Gabi is fully loved by both of you he's happy. And if you do want kids with him or have your own already the man is 10000% about it and loves yall to death & wants to try IMMEDIATELY for more.

-he pretty much is a "we got food at home" dad but you and Gabi made a pact together where she asks if y'all can get takeout on your behalf when you don't feel like cooking and it worked for a bit bc it's Gabi and he can't say no to his little girl but then he caught on eventually

-he's the dad on the grill in the summer. He's very possessive of his grill and he wears an apron that says "kiss the chef" or "grill master" that you got him for Father's Day

-He hangs up the kids' artwork on the fridge no matter what and keeps it up year round.

-He definitely throws the kids in the pool and you have to remind him to take it easy. If he ever accidentally hurts the kids though he's apologizing profusely and showering them with kisses bc he feels bad.

-When you guys go boating, he always wrecks the kids on the tube but when it's you driving the boat you take it easy on em.

-He's big on manners and Gabi is a very considerate and well behaved little girl thanks to him. Her teachers love her.

-when it comes to bae-cations you leave most of the planning up to him because it's hard for you to be away from the kids for too long but he lovesss it bc he gets you to himself (unlimited sexy time with you) but he lets you use his phone to FaceTime them everyday or whenever you miss them.

-When he reads stories to Gabi and the kids he reads in a silly voice.

-He makes you and the kids hand him your passports/IDs/boarding passes at the airport because he's the classic dad at the airport and walks way too fast in front of everyone.

-He also makes the whole fam get up at like 4 am for vacation even though your flight is at 1 pm.

-He makes you and the kids get up early on vacation because no way are you guys missing the free breakfast. He's awake before everyone else and he already worked out in the gym and had a shower too.

-He's the one driving when y'all go on road trips and he always sticks his hand outstretched to the backseat for Gabi to give him some of the Chex Mix.

-He definitely follows the "dad tax" rule when it comes to food.

-He's definitely the dad that looks over the top of his reading glasses while reading in the recliner when Gabi and her loud friends come in after practice

-He snores loudd

-He reads the newspaper in the morning.

-He's not a Cocomelon dad and will just have whatever he likes on TV and you gotta remind him to keep it PG for the kids

-He loathes baby shark and any "kid music". No Kidz Bop here. He'll play whatever he likes in the car(obv nothing super raunchy) but Gabi has awesome music taste already and appreciates the oldies thanks to him. He's a man of culture for sure.

-He's the dad that can't resist trying to start home projects or fixing random things around the house and recruits the kids to help him even when it's inconvenient.

-He'll yell if you hold the flashlight wrong. He holds back when it's Gabi tho. He's working on not being mean.

-He's particular about how the lawn is mowed and prefers to be the one doing it.

-He yells at the TV when his team is playing. The man gets stressed.

-He stands up when he's watching the news and always needs to know the weather forecast.

-When it comes to bullies at school, he gives the kids full permission to deck anyone in the face who messes with them and hi-fives Gabi anytime she stands up for herself.

-Whenever Gabi or the kids have a play or speaking part at school for their class program and they're nervous, Miguel will go over their lines with them while you're the fake audience cheering them on.

-if you want kids, he's overly concerned about germs and makes people use hand sanitizer/loses his shit if people kiss the new baby when you guys get home from the hospital.

-He teaches the kids how to ride their bikes while you take pictures.

-He'll sleep in the kids room whenever they have nightmares and use "monster spray" for monsters under the bed.

-He'll do Elf on the shelf for Gabi but you gotta remind him or else he'll forget to move it and he forgets the rules.

-When Gabi and the kids learn how to drive he'll get up early in the morning to defrost their windows for them and shovel the snow.

-The only thing he could possibly love more than his kids is his grandkids. He'd be an amazing grandpa and he'd take the chance to take the grandkids to the museum, zoo, movies with you anytime.

-He recruits Gabi and the kids to help him make you breakfast in bed on your birthday/Mother's Day which makes you cry and y'all spend the day in bed together laughing and cuddling as a big happy family.

The MC is gender neutral— so extra good for relatability (projecting), there’s no romance, so u don’t need to worry abt that. AND the MC is lowkey??? Insane??? So watching them interact with the skeletons who are increasingly done with their shenanigans & increasingly concerned abt them is great???

And as it becomes clear that some skeletons care abt their wellbeing it’s *chefs kiss*

The author made the genius choice of having the MC’s (only) hobby be stalking the multiverse that they otherwise didn’t interact with. Which leads to a lot of self aware jokes because us, the readers, ALSO love stalking skeletons.

(There ARE a lot of skeleton-devil’s-tango jokes tho, so fair warning. And the MC is an idiot. Who needs to be contained for the safety (and sanity) of the multiverse. Attempts to contain them are made… with varying success)

I love CoB, it was one of the first webtoons I read. And as someone who owns a dopey, loving rottie, it means so much to finally see a precious little baby getting the proper love and attention 🥹 and as an ace, 10/10, chefs kiss, I love Rex. He's so good.

I love the whole cast, honestly. Even the bad guys have solid motivation. Even side characters have personality.

I really like Lyss. You gave her hard decisions to make, she picked the best options available, and I'm sad to see how much hate she gets. She's just trying to make it through, and she's got morals she stands by.

Also, loving this new stuff on Claude. Maybe it's a bad sign, but I really relate to the poor guy.

‼️these violent delights/our violent ends/foul lady fortune/last violent call spoilers‼️

I want to share some thoughts with yall after i just finished last violent call. Waiting for foul heart huntsman later in September is torture so i thought to talk now

There’s so many thoughts where do i start uhmm. I’m glad my friend introduced me to this series (hi parker!!! Immensely grateful btw). I haven’t been so captivated by a book/series in awhile so i truly loved this.

I think the small part of my denial part suspected that Roma and Juliette was alive since it was explicitly mentioned in the OVE epilogue that their bodies weren’t found after the explosion. I’m glad we get an addition of the novella’s in the series that serves as an epilogue for Roma and Juliette’s arc. It served their love story justice. Ofc if we knew all along that they’re alive se cld come up with our own conclusion that they’re living their peaceful lives far far away but with the novella’s we cld actually see how they live their domestic life.

And oml i’m so glad Chloe Gong added Benedikt and Marshall’s love story a novella epilogue. Like to finally get a conclusion that all that mutual pining was worth it is very *chef’s kiss*. I wish we get to see their everyday domestic life in their home however. But a murder mystery epilogue is so fun and fitting for them so i’m not complaining all that much. But wldn’t it be cool to see what they’re like at home like how we see Roma and Juliette? Like yeah they were determined to help a couple in need, but we get a glimpse on what they’re like at home. Again, i understand that even if it is an epilogue it can’t be all fluffy since it takes form of a novella and technically speaking it needs to add on to the plot since it’s not yet the actual epilogue of the series.

Ahhh but i loved all the details slipped in the novella’s. Marshall being the main cook is spot on and him hving monthly gossip sesh with Juliette is so fitting i love them. Roma being absolutely in love with his wife and spoiling her with his love till the ends of the earth? Perfection. Juliette still wanting to cause problems despite also being in the lovey-dovey state much like Roma? So in character and very girlboss of her i love it sm.

It took me by surprise ngl when it was mentioned that Benedikt’s a children’s art teacher. But honestly it’s quite fitting. I can see him being very good with kids of different ages and also channeling his passiom for the arts to those kids by teaching them. Imagine one of his students paints a stick figure portrait of Benedikt and the kid showing it to him and Benedikt just has to keep it in himself from tearing up. It looked like a stick man made with chicken scratches and his name spelt wrong, but to Benedikt it was EVERYTHING. Also not to mention Marshall so definitely falling in love with Benedikt all over again any time he sees him playing and having fun with the kids like hsnsganshmsgwnw. Roma and Juliette’s future children will definitely be spoiled by their dear uncles and omg the possibilities are endless. My fav possibility so far is the thought of Marshall and Benedikt teaching their future kids how to ultimately bully Roma and it being the funniest sight ever it sends Juliette rolling on the floor.

But now it brings me to the events of FLF and the potential foul heart huntsman events. Wow did the Orion being controlled by his mother plottwist at the end took me out and basically shattered my heart. Like????? Him and Rosalind had smth going on and now mommy issues came knocking on their front door to ruin it all. Now that i think abt it the mind control plottwist sounds like an allegory for toxic and controlling boy mom relationships uhmm… was what chloe gong was going for?? I mean it was good and i think it truly did the trick ngl. Like it was a whole damn whiplash. Both the concept being a plottwist and a (potential but idk if it was meant to be that so take this one with a grain of salt) allegory.

Also what I truly loved abt FLF how the whole plot is basically abt Rosalind’s guilt. For so long she felt guilty for nearly destroying Shanghai and became an agent just so she can repent from her wrongdoings. And isn’t that nearly identical to Orion?? I mean, he became an agent to make himself useful and to prove a point to his father so it’s not necessarily centered around guilt anyways but like… same vibes? You know? Look it just make sense to me. But anyways and then they found each other and like unravel each other slowly and like gsngsmshsms. So cute. Amazing. Orion Hong is very malewife energy especially when he was losing his shit swinging left and right in that last fight scene in the warehouse.

Also that does leave me to wonder how wld FHH wld play out. I was so hoping for Orion and Oliver to reconcile at the end of FLF ngl bcs yeah i love found family but i LOVE sibling bond tropes. Like for so long I adored Rosalind and Celia’s relationship throughout TVL and OVE. It’s still apparent in FLF so i’m glad and hopefully it’ll keep going till FHH. But pls give me fluffy Hong siblings. And like all of them. All three. Imagiem how funny it’d be when Pheobe and Silas inevitably get together (there’s no denying they’re going to get together eventually. If they aren’t then Chloe Gong has been playing with our feelings this whole time and led us all on) and the big brother instinct in Oliver and Orion will jump at the thought of Pheobe with a boyfriend. Ok well I’m sure it has happened before since FLF have mentioned that Orion has stolen Pheobe’s ex bf to like ‘test his loyalty’ or whatever but to i don’t think he’s ever been into Silas like that. Like ever. Even if he did he already definitely so whipped for Rosalind so he’s not even gonna want to at that point. But I’m sorry the thought of Oliver and Orion cornering Silas and giving him the shovel talk?? That’s amazing. I mean yeah Orion wld do it moreso bcs he finds it funny and only feeling the need to make sure Silas stays in line when it comes to his sister just a tiny bit. But Oliver? He’d be so serious with his threat.

But the main thing we’re all awaiting in FHH is definitely the story of Rosalind getting Orion back. But seeing that he’s basically a superhuman, Rosalind wld so definitely round up the whole gang. But does that gang also include Roma Juliette Benedikt and Marshall?? I’m hoping it wld. And like not just a quick appearance, which is smth i’m sure we’ve all suspected with what’s been told in the novella’s. But i truly wanna see thrm getting involved in the brutal fights and shit. Also i hv to see the Roma and Alisa reunion. I need to hv it bcs my life depends on it!!!!!

I cannot wait for FHH to come out and reveal more tiny details of all these character’s and reveal the last story to truly tie this series up to an end. I’m gonna get super fucking emotional ngl but i’m also excited nonetheless.

Ngl i still hv many thoughts abt this series but I’m not gonna share it now bcs my brain is spinning like 63826 miles an hour just by thinking abt it so this is as much as I can put it into words. Wld love to hear anyone else’s thoughts on this. My ask box is always open:)

VegasPete and Stockholm Syndrome

Okay so….just obsessively scrolling through the KP and VP tags every Saturday I end up seeing everybody and their brothers takes. (And if not on Saturday then I will the entire rest of the week because I check that tag like checking the morning newspaper 🤪)

And seeing “Stockholm Syndrome” for the tv series (esp cause I read the VP side story lmaooo rip) really amused me for multiple reasons,,,

Lemme just start right from the bat and say that it is perfectly valid to be confused on Pete’s actions, especially as he’s been held hostage.

“Why didn’t he leave?? He should of left???”

Obv the thought process here is: Pete hates Vegas —> seen what Vegas goes through and empathized —> worries about his captor —> doesn’t leave when presented the option —> therefore he has Stockholm syndrome.

Mhm mhmmm I can understand how you could come to that conclusion. However, I firmly disagree. I saw a post that said they wanted to label Vegas and Pete’s relationship Stockholm sooooo badly but knew that wasn’t entirely it and that there was something more complex but they couldn’t understand what.

Haha let me explain to you just what that “what” is.

Having read the book, I have a bit more of a foundation when it comes to comparison, making it easier to see and understand the intent behind the way the Director and writers have adapted the novel into the series. I’m in the middle of writing an essay about these changes and why the tv show is hands down (no competition) a million times better (written) than the book.

In the book, yeah I would say Pete and Vegas have a Stockholm relationship. Hmmm maybe not even then? Because if we’re defining Stockholm as a coping mechanism of empathizing with the captor during times of stress and harm in order to help make it through a traumatic situation; then I say: So~so. See, Pete’s mindset in the book is completely different than it is in the series.

In the book there was no understanding for why Vegas is a fked up lil maniac. “Parental abuse? Tough, but people out there have had it tougher 😶✌️.”

That was Pete’s mindset.

It was really “well that sucks for you but I don’t care — cuz you’re a henious villain” thought process.

In fact Pete only started being nice to Vegas/doing what he said so that Vegas would get bored and either kill him or let him go. That’s it. That’s like 92% of their novel relationship. Pete being fake asf so Vegas would find him boring.

Even prior to being captor and captive Book!Pete could not and did not see behind Vegas’ mask. In his own thoughts during his time captive, he thinks about how he had always perceived Vegas as y’know “just some guy” even with Kinn/Tankhun’s warnings — these warnings being the only reason he knew to be wary of Vegas in the first place.

Chef’s kiss 💋 👌👌 to the show for the way they made specific and subtle changes from the source material that would greatly change the entire dynamic of all the characters and their relationships with each other. (But that’s an essay for a whole other day 👀)

Now, how did the show change Vegas and Pete’s relationship into something entirely new, even more fked up than it was in the narrative, and yet somehow a million times better?

Simple.

(1) Pete’s observation skills and ability to see through Vegas mask from the very beginning. AND his “there’s no heroes or villains” mindset

(2) Pete *choosing* to sneak in with the knowledge and preparation of his torture and death should things go wrong.

(3) The shared experience of both having abusive fathers.

(Pete being the more mature and introspective and aware one between the two, aKa giving Vegas some solid therapy and enlightenment.)

(4) The clippers that have been left in the room with Pete. These writers have been intentional to the *T* — if all these damn essays and meta aren’t proof enough to yall of that then 🤷 idk what else I could give to prove that to you.

(Listennnnnnn,,, you don’t have all these intentional choices for every little thing and then accidentally leave bolt cutters on set of an important scene. Would make no damn sense.)

(5) The hedgehog 🦔

(Vegas didn’t have a pet in the novel…not one I remember at least.)

(6) The Key 🔑

(7) Vegas not initiating the Kiss

Okay. All of the above 1–7 are just a few of the changes made that have major importance for both Pete and Vegas’ relationship.

With Pete being able to see under Vegas’ mask we know that Vegas’ fake masks don’t fool him. There’s something about Vegas that Pete can see through. So when Pete chooses to sneak into the minor family compound — vocally stating before he does it that he knows the consequences— this informs the audience that he’s prepared for them. For capture, torture, death. Which is why when Vegas comes in to torture him and Pete knows he’s foiled his plans and will most likely die? Dude has nothing to lose, so he’ll be damned if he’ll let Vegas see his fear.

Not only does this give Pete a lot more agency. (In the book it was just, wrong place, wrong time); but — as fked up as it is — it also lets the audience feel less bad when he does inevitably get caught / tortured.

It’s not that he asked for it, but at least he knew what was going to happen. An unsuspecting victim is a lot more pitiable than a suspecting victim. Especially if it’s a consequence of a choice he voluntarily made — compared to being forced to investigate via ‘boss’s order.’ So already the writers are setting us up to not hate Vegas as much as we would if Pete truly stumbled into the situation on accident.

Now one of the most important differences — that shared trauma of having an abusive father, and using it to relate to Vegas. Unlike Book!Pete, our Pete recognizes Vegas’ situation. He’s been in the same place — while having the actual affection of his grandmother to fall back on (which Vegas obv didn’t have); therefore he also understands why Vegas tortures him the way that he does — he understands that Vegas is only feeling pathetic and lousy and is taking that out on him.

But in that tender and melancholic moment when Vegas decides to be vulnerable after patching up Pete’s wounds, Pete talks to Vegas with an understanding only someone in his position (or a therapist lol) would have. Even then, objectively knowing something is different than having experienced it yourself. And it’s the fact that Pete’s *also* experienced that sh*t that lends credibility to what he’s saying — at least in Vegas’ eyes.

This is why Pete knows there’s no good or evil, hero or villain, black or white binary in this world.

Because when you get down to it: we truly are shaped by our environments and the things we experience as we grow (obv not ignoring genetics but that’s not the point). And it’s this reflective and mature/observational outlook that helps him empathize with Vegas.

More than empathize — it’s *this* outlook that helps Pete not hold lasting grudges or hate for past hurts.

It’s always easier to forgive someone when you know where they’re coming from.

And Pete never really took it personally (for the most part) considering Vegas is on an opposing side. When an enemy gets captured on the enemy’s base of course they’d get either killed or tortured, esp for information.

That’s not something special to Vegas.

Vegas refusing to kill Pete tho? Lol. That’s enough for a dislike to sour. But I don’t think it sours all that much once we put in the consideration of Pete’s observations recognizing what Vegas is — a victim of an abusive home/situation.

(Not that it excuses him, but nobody’s trying to do that here LOL.)

Now getting down to the nitty gritty.

The hedgehog, the key, and why Pete isn’t a victim of Stockholm syndrome.

First, I think the hedgehog 🦔 is very important because it gives the audience (and Pete) another reason to empathize with Vegas — humans might not mean sh*t to him, but he loves and takes care of his pets.

He loves something. He cares about something. This humanizes him.

And a small and fragile pet can often humanize a character more than a human. A real sicko kills animals. But Vegas’ care for his hedgehog 🦔 shows that he isn’t that. He’s human too—albeit a really fked up one, but human nonetheless. He’s capable of love too, but perhaps humans have hurt him so much that he knows only an animal would be something he can trust.

This kind of trust and love he can only find in animals is also a very isolating existence. It highlights just how trapped Vegas is — the Hedgehog is literally a mirror of himself and his situation.

Yes he cares for Macau — but it’s “easier” to care for a human than an animal. Easier to empathize with a human. So while yeah, his care for his brother, while subtle in the show, is important, it isn’t as important to the audience as his love for his hedgehog. Especially when it comes to convincing an audience to forgive a character’s past villainy and long list of crimes.

But here’s what’s really important — the key.

Vegas leaving the key there (intentional or not; but imo, I think it’s obv intentional. Dude is way too meticulous for that to be accidental), gives Pete the agency to either escape or stay.

This, again, helps the audience be more okay with the idea of the two of them ending up in a relationship. It’s one thing if Pete has no choice and goes along with things to survive or cope with trauma — but it’s entirely something else if he’s allowed to leave, but doesn’t.

But Pete’s reason for staying has to be rational in some sense so the suspension of disbelief doesn’t attack the audience going 900 mph on the logic freeway.

So him escaping but seeing Vegas sitting pathetically on the grass, alone in the dark, and holding his dead pet?

The person there isn’t the dude that tortured him. Naw, that part of Vegas — is the child trapped in a cage and left isolated in the dark while anything that had ever brought him light or comfort in his life leaves him. He may be sitting on grass, but for Vegas it could’ve been the equivalent of sitting on broken glass.

It’s such a stark difference too from the versions of Vegas Pete’s used to seeing. Yeah he had that conversation about dads last episode, but even then Vegas wasn’t totally broken and left in despair.

But this Vegas?

This Vegas was someone so broken he couldn’t even cry until Pete touched him to provide comfort.

This Vegas isn’t just a sharp edge that can cut you if you get too close, now’s he’s much too broken for that — and his sharp edge has twisted inward from attacking others to attacking himself.

At this point, Pete’s beyond empathizing with his captor — esp because he isn’t a captive here. He’s not chained anymore. Vegas has no interest holding him captive. Pete at any point after he got out of those chains could have left and Vegas would do nothing to stop him.

Vegas is broken. He’s depressed. And he’s numb because it hurts too much to do anything but sit in his own despair. Pete touching him in comfort might’ve opened the floodgates of that hurt, but that doesn’t mean it changed how Vegas felt. Dude is still in despair when he heads inside.

Anyways this is getting too long so I’ll make a part two — getting more particular in the psychology of why Pete stayed, and why he kissed Vegas.

Closing words to end on:

Pete doesn’t leave because he knows what it’s like, and he’s sees the humanity and pain in Vegas and he cares. He cares because no broken and abused kid should be left isolated in the dark, not even knowing how to cry. He cares because he wants to do for Vegas what his grandmother did for him. What he wished more people would have done when he was in that pain and darkness.

He cares because he looks at Vegas and he sees himself.
