since i dont want an entire "zim age debate" on your blog im keeping this off anon so you can answer this privately if you want

im ALSO not trying to "convince you" to change your interpretation of zim because thats stupid and completely defeats my entire point that its up in the air. thatd also be pretty mean of me!

but my main point is that i think different writers on the show have different ideas for how they see him, considering jhonen is not the sole opinion-haver there and his favorite thing to do is make shit up. like richard and andy((zim and dibs voice actors, respectively)) im pretty sure dont think hes an old man otherwise the puppet kiss incident or the "i love you zim" wouldnt have happened. ((not that i want this to be About shipping but thats a big example)) and then theres advertisements calling zim an "alien kid" or jhonen himself calling zim a child in the old pilot bible

i understand what you mean with tak the hideous new girl however thats also the episode where he tries to Date tak under the impression that shes a human child and id rather not see my funny greenboy as a predator. i just always thought that the 60 years joke was "haha isnt it funny that were using ridiculously long periods of time and theyre still children"

not to mention mopiness of doom where it shows that zim and dib are grossly codependent enemies and i just dont really want to imagine a 60+ year old man and a child depending on eachother like that,,,,,

theres more "evidence" but i think this ask has gone on long enough

ALL OF THAT BEING SAID!!!!! theres no definitive proof either way and i find that unless youre shipping or really want to dig into the child soldier angle((which i personally find interesting)) it doesnt really matter. again this isnt supposed to be a persuasive essay just like,, idek. i like discussing this show and the characters in it! theres story benefits to either interpretation of zim and i like your art either way

eh. I had to write so much to respond to all this, it seems wasteful not to post.

TL; DR

There is no way for me to 100% guarantee that zadr will be read the same way by everyone, because it won't be, as is the nature of all media. That is exactly why I don't think that everyone who interprets Zim as a child necessarily has ill or manipulative intentions.

But I can provide arguments like the following for why I think zadr and kids who ship it would be a likely target for groomers, and therefore why I feel it is a good idea to discourage this ship.

As I mentioned in the previous ask, I think that said discouragement should be approached with the mindset that not everyone involved is malicious or arguing in bad faith. It is necessary to determine how best to act depending on the situation.

Personally, I'm going to continue pointing out the problems I see with the ship as much as I can in hopes of changing peoples' minds, whenever I have the time and energy to do so.

re: the VAs: This does not refute my point about Zim being easily read as an adult bc of the 50 years comment/ many other contextual implications made by the show. If anything the vagueness about Zim's age because of his alien society could make this a more useful grooming tool. I feel the same way about Bill Cipher x Dipper. Bill has just as much childish adult coding and just as little certainty about his age within the context of his alien species.

re: the pilot bible: the show changes lots of things from the pilot bible so this is no more reliable than any other "word of god" (input from creators of the show rather than material within the show) from Jhonen.

That said, I think the VAs were joking around and did not put much thought into it. Joking around by making characters act the opposite of normal (hating each other -> liking each other) is common.

That said, I think the unprovable nature of the intentions behind the VAs comments is a good argument for excluding word of god from the Zim age conversation entirely. I think that zadr is still Not Good and should be Discouraged even if you only look at the show with no additional outside input, for all the reasons I explained in the first ask and have added here.

re: advertisements calling Zim an alien kid: a bunch of characters in the show call him a kid because they are genuinely convinced he is one, so it doesnt surprise me that advertisement/bumper writers who arent really paying attention would call him that.

re: trying to date Tak: in that episode it is made VERY clear that Zim does not understand romance at all, and does not care to beyond what's necessary to blend in. He clearly does not genuinely want to date her and only wants to use it to seem more socially normal. The Keef episode established a precedent for how Zim treats human relationships he's unfamiliar with, and it's by doing the bare minimum and then ditching them immediately. It's not GOOD behavior by any stretch, but he isn't acting with genuine predatory intentions.

re: 60 years joke: yeah sure that is a joke the show might make. But the additional cultural context we have for Zim's life (that he has been a soldier for a long time + that he trained to become a soldier for a long time, as we see in The Trial) gives Tak being a janitor for 50 years more potential to be taken literally.

re: mopiness of doom: yeah honestly I just personally don't like that episode script. But also, as codependant as they are and as weird as that is, nothing about it is inherently romantic. My frenemies argument from the end of the original post still stands, as do all of my arguments about the ship being potentially useful for grooming because of the lack of clarity.

re: your conclusion: The fact that Irkens HAVE child soldiers IS interesting, yes, and we see in The Trial that Zim has been trained to be a soldier basically since birth, which is also interesting to consider for Zim's character.

However, I explained in the previous ask how I think reading Zim as a child during the current events of the show weakens some of the show's core themes about incompetent, unquestioning adults. I think the whole show just makes more sense if it is centered around a socially shunned child and socially shunned adult fighting against each other. The fact that Zim is old and still a loser further highlights how futile both his and Dib's aspirations to greatness are within their respective societies-- and they are CLEARLY meant to be seen as futile.

I cannot think of a theme or character arc that would be served by Zim's age being unclear, so I do not think it comes across as intentional, even if you rule out word of god. But still, even if nothing I've read into here was intentional, what matters is that it is lends itself to being interpreted as an adult/child ship, or being interpreted as an age gap that "doesnt count" for superficial reasons. And NO I am not claiming that there is any way to conclusively determine that a ship with an unclear age gap has crossed the line into potentially harmful territory. It HAS to be considered on a case-by-case basis. And you've made it clear that there are muddling factors to sift through for this one in particular!

But I feel very strongly that these muddling factors are more circumstantial than, less intuitive than, and ultimately outweighed by, the parts of the text which contextually place Zim as an adult, and will continue providing examples supporting this conclusionc whenever I am able to.

• S!Kai and M!Kai get along pretty well!! s!kai sometimes finds his counterpart pretty childish, but he cant judge him. he was like that once, too. and m!kai thinks s!kai is really awesome!! maybe he needs to lighten up a bit, but 100% a good role model/mentor!! co-cereators of the 'multi-versal Lloyd protection squad'. s!kai is ENAMORED by the fact that m!kai and his sister are twins. they are also. Very Competitive sugauwguaf. like i said, mentor/student dynamic with em :)

• S!Cole and M!Cole are also pretty alright with each other!!! they're both introverts so. they (affectionately) talk shit abt their teammates w one another. m!cole gets his counterpart into music, and s!cole does the viceversa with dancing!! also I like to think m!cole hasn't really processed his moms death yet so s!cole really teaches him to Stop Shoving His Grief aside and allow himself to mourn. less mentor/student and more father/son or older/younger brother for these two

• OKAY. MAYBE A CONTROVERSIAL TAKE. s!jay and m!jay do NOT get a long. or they get along the worst, at least. s!jay doesn't really like how his counterpart is all 'uwu softboy who loves nya and is too nervous to speak and also does Not know how to invent'. he even doubts that mf grew up in a junkyard. and the feeling is (kinda) reciprocated!! m!jay is pretty scared (and envious) of s!jay. 'he's with nya. he's so much more confident than me. he's amazing at building and inventing. i wish i could be more like Him'. they'd actually be pretty good friends if they just looked past one anothers flaws tho (very much reluctant mother goose being followed by a clingy gosling dynamic for them.)

• MMMM s!zane and m!zane are Complicated. on shows side, he doesn't really like how his counterpart makes his Nindroid-ness out to be... almost a joke?? idk. s!zane's kind of. Afraid of becoming like his counterpart, but at the same time he wants to help him realize that he's More than just a robot. he has a family, man. and a Soul. although, movie is actually pretty opposite!! i like to think m!zane was NOT created to protect those who cannot protect themselves, but to be an Actual son/experiment for Dr. Julien. he doesn't know why his counterpart is so stressed and serious all the time!! theyre Wild Teens!!! live a little!!!! (also very hard to name dynamic?? bit of mentor/mentee AND reluctant siblings mixed in there frfr)

• SLAMS FIST ON TABLE. S!NYA AND M!NYA ARE THE BWORSTIES (best friends/worsties.) they are seeing who has better control over water. they are comparing and helping each other through their trauma. they are fighting over who has the cooler brother. they vent to each other about how hard it is being the only Girl on the team. they're training with each other with Violent hand to hand combat. they are hugging and talking about how hard lifes been w/o ray and maya. they are insulting eachother. m!Nya is taking s!nya on a 2 am bike ride while s!nya is teaching m!nya how to ask jay out. dynamic is ABSOLUTE BESTIES WHO ALSO BITE EACH OTHER IF THEY GET TOO CLOSE <3<3

• and, of course, ops favorite(s); s!Lloyd and m!Lloyd!! getting their dynamic right out of the way by saying they aren't brothers- their Twins. absolute, familial TWINS. they are each others therapists who constantly tell one another that they work too hard. the both probably think their counterpart is cooler than them. idk when this takes place in time, but if its before tlnm, m!lloyd is AMAZED at how well s!lloyd takes the mass-bullying (shows unfortunately used to it from darkleys :[) but, if it's AFTER tlnm, the entire city goes WILD 'omg they're MULTIPLYING YESSS' also, they let themselves act like kids when around one another. they both had to grow up too fast for different reasons, but the fact that they can talk to someone who Actually Gets It helps a lot :) they also compare trauma loll

• after morro and nya, wu is the next one to figure out the new family cat is Lloyd. meow meow reacts everytime the word 'uncle' is occasionally thrown around, and lloyd always seems to somehow Find and Bring wu whatever he was looking for (smthn he did as a human, too :])

so the thing about rocky horror picture show is that its a bad movie.

the character of dr. frank n furter is transmisogynistic he is shown to be pathetic and sexually predatory and is specifically referred to as a transvestite. im not saying that if you like rocky horror youre a bigot and honestly im not saying that this type of content automatically makes the film bad, but its enough to turn me off for sure. this is not however the case for a lot of people, which is wild, because everything else about the movie is ALSO SHIT

theres no plot, the 50s b movie parody angle from the opening doesn't get played off of nearly enough.

the music is middling at best. one thing that i find interesting is that the songs are mostly like. Unrelated to the plot? the eddie dinner song and dammit janet are pretty specific but like. aside from the ones featuring names the songs are kind of just stand alone musical pieces. which is weird.

i cant really parse what the movie wants the audience to think about its characters or like what the message youre supposed to take away from it is. like im not sure if they want to be pro or anti-sex and honestly they dont have enough to say for me to care

the time warp is a bad dance. do the steps provided in the song with no further additions its a shit dance

the most interesting thing aboyt the movie to me is the shadow cast and audience callbacks found in showings of the film, which are genuinelykind of a cool phenomenon. (side note, ive heard a lot of the callbacks and i find them grating. theyre jokes thst have been crowdsourced since the 70s and you can really tell)

in conclusion, a lot of people still really like this movie, particularly amongst transmascs, because the movie is not making fun of that kind of transvestite and so its much easier to watch. ive found at least amongst my friends a pretty distinct pattern in who likes rhps and who doesnt. That aside, its also just not a good movie from a technical standpoint. it doesnt bring enough to the table to make up for the bigotry because its A Shit Film!!! Its Bad!!!!

Anyway! I think like. My interpretations [or hcs i guess] of the 'joys is a lil nonstandard in some ways bc i took the blank slate of their personalities and ran with it GSJSH [so these are all like. Canon to me. Basically. Sorry gerald u never gave ur apocalypse ocs personalities so theyre mine now] basically like. I have some v set hcs on their personalities and main characteristics as a whole

I like to think that fun ghoul is like. While hes v v chatty and more than a little mischievous hes also EXTREMELY perceptive to the point it's unnerving, and while hes not v good with his own emotions he's fucking insanely good at picking up other people's, as well as like. Tiny details and shit that others wouldn't have noticed. Hes still an idiot tho godbless GKEHSJ. Hes the number one mad gear fanboy. Hes good w explosives but crap with other tech.

Kobra. Ohohohohohohohoooo kobra. Ppl like to hc him as v stoic [which im not implying is a bad hc at all btw!!! Just an observation] but i like to thing hes EXTREMELY emotional and p unpredictable. A v shoot first ask questions later type, and deathly afraid of being percieved as cowardly or weak. Absolutely GARBAGE shot, which is why he has stun gloves. Practically the fucking tech whisperer.Official motorbaby wrangler. Took care of motorbaby the most when she was an infant. Best shot in the zones GODBLESS. Hes got an eye [ha] for beauty and appreciates p much everything the world has to offer as best he can. Trying to be an optimist despite his horrendous anxiety disorder. Spanish is his first language! Doesnt talk much and thinks carefully abt what he says before he says it. Madly in love with poison but has carefully filed that away under "n" for "never touching that ever"

Motorbaby. Stuck halfway between "extremely unchildlike behavior" and being a regular weird little girl. Far too used to violence. LOOOOVES big robots so much her favorite toy is an old mecha action figure ghoul fixed up for her. Impossible not to love, seriously. ADORES her big brothers. High energy but also burns out quickly and has to nap a LOT. Picked up some of the languages the fab four speak aside from english [spanish, italian, and snatches of japanese] but in the manner that means she knows how to swear in four languages. Veeery small

Jet and ghoul are desert boys [tho ghoul wasnt born in the desert and was smuggled out of bat city by his dad when he was a toddler], while kobes and poison are cityboys [escaped when they were both 13]. Jet's the oldest, ghoul's the youngest

I also have some ideas abt zones culture but aside from the talk abt bigotry probably still being rampant in the zones thats smth im saving for my roadtrip au fic tee hee

out of the box DRs

so, i am way to into making DRs..i make more progress with these ideas than actually shifting smh so im here to tell you all the different ones i have! not all of them are fandom related or part of a movie/tv but most of them may be

-BRAND NEW! if any of you have seen the movie In Time, its a reality where instead of money as the currency, its time. there are time zones as communities, based of the amount of time people have. everyone lives up to age 25 before they stop aging completely, and then they have this clock on their arm. it gives them another 65 years to live (not age), however, you have to buy housing, food, etc with that said time on your wrist. think of your arm as apple pay. there are gangs (minute men) who constantly try to steal/deal with time. and then the time keepers, almost like cops. anyways, its someone fun to try and if you wanted i would script something like I Never Run Out Of Time, so you dont die, but anyways it seemed like a cool place to be! try watching the movie

-Inception! if youve never seen inception, its a movie about a secret job that deals with entering peoples dreams. im not the best at explaining, but im gonna give it my best shot. if i dont do a good enough job at explaining- def go watch the movie if you like really thinking about movies and cool theories. essentially, there are roles for these jobs related to entering dreams. normally, the goal of this job is Inception (the theory that you can subconsciously plant an idea into someones head while they are dreaming). if that doesnt quite make sense, lets try this example. Don’t think of a pink elephant. what did you just think of? a pink elephant, right? this idea is implemented into undercover jobs within this secret profession. you may be wondering why this is necessary? why do you need to give someone an idea or thought... it seems easier to talk to someone straight up? this is a high class job, and dreams have emotional value sometimes with people that may make more an an effect rather than talking to them. OR- you can dream-walk to obtain information from an enemy, client, etc. the thing with dreamwalking is that its challenging, and it requires a team. here are the people needed to dream walk:

Extractor- this person obtains the information, the front man of the job. they are the ones normally asked for the service by corporations and clientele. theyre personal end game is to get the information or plant the seed in the dream.

Point Man- this person is the one giving directions, head of the job in a way. they decide where each person goes, what each person does, but its all in the dream. they come up with a plan/direction, and inform their coworkers. they also improv and assist if anything were to go wrong

Architect- this person designs and creates the dream environment. they typically build original “sets” so that they dont mirror reality, which is key to the job. architect is normally the dreamer, so they are the first to be asleep/put under, and everyone syncs/joins this persons dreams. architect NEVER shows their designs, otherwise the plan may fail.

Chemist- to join the dreams, people must be put under anesthesia of some kind. the chemist will conjure a drug/drink/etc that will put the team under within a block of time. this specific chemical within the sedative cocktail is what allows these dreams to be shared among the rest of the team

Forger- this person can alter their appearance in a dream. when entering someone dream, they can look like whoever the client needs in order to make the emotional impact to plant that seed.

I reccommend that your dream team (see what I did there) is all your favorite people! sure, you could use the actual movie characters, but you can always add people to the team, come up w new ones, and stuff like that! thats what I did

IF ANYONE HAS QUESTIONS LMK ILL TRY TO EXPLAIN MORE IF NEED BE

-band! think of any genre...rock, jazz, indie ANYTHING! bring characters or people from anywhere and create your dream band! think about touring together, creating music together (take any of your fav songs from your CR and write them in your DR!) think about interviews, amazing times with your bandmates and infinite love from your fans <3

-dream school! i know this may be weird, school leaves a pretty bad taste in your mouth but to some degree, everyone loves learning. it just has to be at your own pace, in the right environment, and with your passion. it can be music school, engineering, wizarding school, ANY KIND OF SCHOOL! ITS YOUR REALITY! bring all your favorite characters, place this school in your favorite country! have you ever seen boarding schools, or private schools that are super ritzy? MAKE THAT YOUR SCHOOL! put your school in a mall like arena and create something totally unheard of. the one I made, has coffee shops INSIDE THE SCHOOL. it has parlors, restaurants, apartments, shopping, living essentials ETC! dont limit how many people you bring with you! the more the merrier! make housing an option! you can live in this giant building OR create different neighborhoods, own multiple places within this environment! what I did was I create sections of living, like resorts. theres a snowy log cabin-y area, a Victorian/vintage housing area. think of ALL THE POSSIBILITIES. limit or unlimit your classes! TAKE ALL OF YOUR FAV TEACHERS EVER AND BRING THEM TO YOUR DR! SCRIPT THEM IN! or make characters your teachers! create classes! pull shit out of your ass! make this school everything youve ever wanted in life.

post-apocalyptic! BE CAREFUL. dont do anything stupid or dangerous. but, there is a thrill to these kinds of environments. just dont script anything like true to hunger games or something similar, death and violent outlets dont need to be unleashed in other realities. those are real people. however, you can alter details in these settings to make it not so mentally harmful. change the fact that kids in hunger games are dying, and make sure that it can be more like a game of tag. once you touch anyone off your team in hunger games, or once they touch a barrier, they are out of the game. not dead. Divergent is an interesting DR as well, script any characters from any other realms/worlds/etc to be in your sector. or, Walking Dead or anything true apocalyptic is fun too! just be careful, script that you have no trauma pls jfc.

roadtrip life! like traveling? want to see the whole world? how about with your favorite characters? go online and search Custom RV/Trailer builder and you can create your own trailer to have friends with while you travel! you have unlimited funds, and endless parts of the world to see. script anyone you want to go anywhere you want! you can vlog the entire way, make a movie, share it with the world, or use this world as a peaceful escape.

suburban escape! take your favorite person (i recommend romantic partner for this specific situation) and create a peaceful escape. a very feasible world thats guaranteed to bring you comfort. take this said romantic person, and have three kids if you fancy! have a white picket fence, and just create a simplistic getaway with your dream family.

aesthetics! take your favorite aesthetic, which could be cottage core, dark academia, and live in it! create an entire town! country! world! based off of your aesthetic! bring in characters and dress them up to fit this style youve got going and just live in it!

firstly with the flashback scenes in otiofad in general they had to serve two different purposes. they obviously needed to show the intense love and intimacy between the boys prior to The Incident, in order to juxtapose the post-prank scenes and serve as a marker for measuring the size of the rift in their relationship that its caused (which is why theres lots of kissing and cuddling and cloying monologues in the flashback scenes), but at the same time they had to demonstrate the little parts of their relationship which are a little bit fucked! a little bit unhealthy and obsessive. and they had to portray sirius as a person who has the capacity to do what he ends up doing. i didnt want to accidentally work against myself by over-idealizing their relationship to the point where it became difficult to believe sirius could be so thoughtless as to do what he does. like if ive just made you read fifteen hundred words of him being the Best Boyfriend Ever and then switch to him begging forgiveness for an attempted murder, his character becomes a little disjointed, and i really wanted it to feel like you're consistently reading the same people, just in very different circumstances. so the flashbacks very much needed to stress their intensity rather than their health as a couple.

im definitely roaming beyond the parameters of your question (but i promise it all circles back xx) but some of the sort of. i dont want to say red flag as much as cause for concern moments that i tried to include especially in the flashbacks include for instance: [Sirius says that sort of thing often, and with a confidence that Remus cannot ever fathom. Good god, how he would like to ask Sirius, them or me, that or me, and never fear the answer.] in the first scene, because i think remus' low self-esteem and his insecurity definitely affects their relationship + how he perceives it, which isn't anyone's fault as much as it is just them being young and imperfect like. theyre like sixteen here nobody had it together when they were sixteen right :-/ you have sirius utterly utterly obsessed with being in love with remus declaring that he doesnt want anything else from life and he's. sixteen years old. he's got no idea. like its that sort of rashness and impulsivity when he's speaking and acting which ends up fucking him over :-/

TO GET BACK to the bit you actually asked about (im so sorry for how long this is <3) the part where he closes the book on the spider. i mean honestly ur interpretation in the ask is pretty spot on!! its another one of the little stitches in the flashback scenes that sort of...slightly changes/sobers/brings the tone back down the reality a little, after theyve spent most of the scene cuddling and kissing etc. i'd already sort of tried (and i want to emphasise try at every point in this answer sfdghsh because i am not necessarily claiming that any of this was necessarily successful lol) to show sirius' capacity for being rash and obsessive, and the spider moment was just this tiny act of unnecessary, arguably cruel? violence that was meant to be jarring against the very over-sweet and gentle affection he's just shown remus. and although theyre acts of violence on such different scales, he gives just as much thought to sending snape to the willow as he does to squashing the spider. one of the things about sirius that i love soooo much is his relationship with violence and the way his anger translates into violence and cruelty (which remus mentions in the final scene when he says “You’ve got to stop being the kind of person who hurts people when they’re angry.”). its why hes SO fun to write angry because his anger is so distinctive lol. so the spider moment is just meant to serve as a little reminder of this random, mindless aggression that sirius carries around with him and that exists in tandem with all the affection we've seen him show remus, who starts in surprise when sirius slams the book shut. (i'll let u in on a super little fun (or not) fact that in my head when i was writing it i always drew a little parallel between the twitching insect leg thats left on the page and the similarly uncomfortable sensation of the eyelash that remus feels scratching his own eye immediately afterwards. thats not necessarily meant to come across n i expect it doesnt because i didnt develope the idea...at all...but in my head they were always a little linked teehee like even sirius' smallest acts of violence still have an effect on remus somehow xx)

but yeah!! apologies i didnt think this would be such a long explanation for a simple question fbhsdfhs im very embarrassed by this but like!! in short the spider was another little jarring moment designed to tether the version of sirius you get in the flashback to the version you get in the post-prank scenes, because ultimately he's the same guy with the same flaws both before and after the prank!! there was no reason for him to kill the spider like that and thats why hes so fucked. it was just his instinctive response to seeing it there.

question: how is birth possible in a topological world, as in a world where everything can be stretched or contracted but not broken or cut apart?

hypothesis one: inside every person, exist infinite other 'people' (they might not be people yet, but they can be. no amount of energy can leave and no amount of energy can enter, but it can be recycled and its form might change) who are separate from the initial person and may be born under the right circumstances. everyone can give birth theoretically, whether they have the organs required or not, because there are infinite outcomes for each universe in the this world and thus there is a 100% probability that someone will give birth in one of those.

hypothesis two: everyone is the same person. when someone new is born, theyre also the person who gave birth to them, however now an invisible ''string'' ties the two of them together. they might not be consciously aware of it, but everything surrounding them (the trees, the humans, the animals, the stars, the atoms, their parents etc) is also a part of them and theyre also a part of it.

question: is our universe topological and if yes, which one of these hypotheses is true (one, both or neither)?

the questions may or may not be rhetorical.

TL;DR: Unknowable, and probably not worth getting super invested in until you can pin it down to a predictive difference or efficiency-of-prediction difference.

Sorry for the delay anon (I think this was asked sometime in May, maybe earlier).

1. Is our universe topological?

So, for nature-of-the-world questions I don't really consider "is [...]" to be particularly answerable. I prefer "is so far empirically indistinguishable from [...]" and "is most elegantly explained/modeled as [...]".

As far as I can tell, we live in a world whose observable physics, at least at the macroscopic level, are more elegantly/efficiently/straightforwardly explained by having separate and separable objects.

While that doesn't prove anything, I'd say explanatory/logical elegance is correlated-with/predictive-of making correct predictions, and as you might remember I consider that to be the basis of logic, and thus part of the basis for any belief beyond raw current experience, so you can probably see why my interest diminishes at that point.

I don't see any obvious sound way to totally preclude a "topological" (everything is one/fused/connected) world. If I was seriously investigating that model, I'd want to check if you can make it work without any super-luminal deformations. If it does require super-luminal deformations, I'd be super hesitant to take it any further. I'd also want to know what else it promises/gains over the current widely accepted models.

The other thing I'd want to make sure is addressed in a topological world model: you ever see someone trying to walk dogs? One dog would do, but two or more makes my point faster. See, dogs don't really understand leashes. They just do their thing, not compensating for the leashes at all. They will very quickly create tangles. I'd want to know what your solution for tangling without super-luminal deformations or information propagation is (or a good argument for why the only super-luminal effects are not actually a problem/contradition for everything else).

I do find it fun to idly try to reintepret what we know of subatomic particle interactions as between one topology-preserving Thing. Like, when you understand a proton as a rapidly changing arrangement which at any given moment is probably best modeled as three quarks (two "up", one "down", except which is which is constantly changing aiui) with strong nuclear force (I think they call it "color force" now?) interactions between each other... well, can we instead imagine those fundamental force propagations and state changes as topology-preserving changes between one thing? Sure, and we could probably re-use string theory for this - instead of vibrating n-dimensional branes you get vibrating n-dimensional protrusions of some larger thing. Okay. Sure. We can probably make it work, my intuition is that you might even be able to achieve feature-parity with the standard model. But then what? What does the extra complexity of all the topology manipulations gain you?

2. How is birth possible?

The same ways as in a non-topological universe remain available. Maybe you can think of others, but again, what does it add? Both of the hypotheses you state strike me as being in the same knowability class as a soul or a god. In principle unknowable, and all existing evidence is more simply explained without those things being real.

Long before you get to questions of topological vs not, you're implemented on neurons which are built out of molecules made up of atoms which themselves are made up of subatomic particles (some of which are made up of yet smaller particles - for example electrons seem to be best understood as not being made up of anything smaller, but protons seem to be best understood as made of quarks).

These things are so far removed from how human minds seem to be implemented in the brain wetware that I don't think it actually makes much of a difference if there's little strings connecting the building blocks which are orders of magnitude smaller.

In any model consistent with what we know of physics, you probably aren't that underlying topology-preserving substance. You'd be a cascade of information processing being done by pieces which are orders of magnitude larger.

(But if the topology-preserving substance is experiencing/cognition/mind-stuff, then to me of the two possibilities you suggested, the second one seems more likely, that we're all one extension of some greater whole, because of all explanatory models that have been empirically or logically testable, ones that add convenient infinities to the mix to make things work seem to always turn out mistaken or equivalent in predictive/modeling power to ones without such infinities. But that doesn't really rule it out. And again there's a functional equivalence there so can you ever really know which of the two it is? If there's enough telepathy-like information sharing between infinite distinct souls which are always topologically connected, even if it's only at specific moments, it kind of becomes equivalent for practical purposes to just being one huge soul with good ability to think/imagine many parallel isolated experience streams.)

I once found comfort in the permanency, connection, and potential to affect the world offered by views like this. Believing that you are part of some larger eternal connected whole. That when this flesh puppet stops being able to pump electricity over neurons and chemicals between them, you won't really cease. That we can really touch other minds and stay in touch. That when the next powerless situation is upon you, you might have found a way to affect things. I've grown comfortable with being in a world that doesn't offer that. In most possibilities where it's true and matters, worst case I'll find out and adapt after I die. What else does it offer while I'm still alive?

no bc it's also been. YEARS since i was Really into dr (and i was. REALLY into dr KSJDF. yeah it's been like three years huh). but YESSS your taste is so good. my favorites if i remember correctly were uhhhh hina and sayaka from thh for SURE. there were a bunch more who i liked but those two were the ones i ended up being not normal at all about. and then AKANE akane was like. i loved akane. AND YESSS sonia nevermind the character of ALL time. i remember i liked hajime a lot too i think he was my favorite protag. and i really enjoyed gundham!! sdr2 was probably my favorite cast on average, i enjoyed them all a lot with like one or two notable exceptions. and then with v3 my favorites were miu tenko and angie because i love widely hated female characters lol nobody got those three like i did i was in the trenches doing deep character analysis i tell you

ALSO. nekomaru most mentally stable dr character truther!! i am also usually All Girls but i think about hypothetical nekomaru nagito dynamic semi regularly because putting the most mentally stable and one of the most mentally. not. stable characters next to each other yields extremely funny dynamics..

i also put a LOT of thought into celeste sayaka dynamics like it's about the fronts we put up the masks we wear the performance of it all..... i will never be normal about those two ever.. man i am thinking about dr characters again this is wild.

also YESSS i love kyoko's va and i loved her as ann in p5.... speaking of which...... who are your p5 favorites.... i am a haru girlie personally. also talk to me more about va's i would love to hear about va's...

HINA AND SAYAKA ARE SUCHU GOOD CHOICES FOR SUUURE sayaka is just incredibly interesting (despite the amount of screentime she got) and aoi is such a genuine sweetheart, i lvoe them both. AKANE IS ALSO SUCH A GOOD CHOICE, its amazing all this girl has gone through and yet shes still one of the cheeriest characters. and i jsut love how like. how she is with the people she cares about. as for DR its like. a good majority have voiced 2 characters atleast. off the top of my heeeeead... lucien dodge voices both hifumi and kiibo. and im pretty sure hes dating (engaged to?) erica mendez, who voices maki. marieve herington as celeste is still fr one of my fave performances like ever in a video game.. amanda celine miller voices both toko and junko! ill stgop for now but the overlap between danganronpa persona and fire emblem is so funny. i get that like theres only reallty a handful in this industry but im pretty sure almost every single VA has been in fire emblem heroes

this took an unreasonably long time bc turns out i actually have a hard time talking about my projects! who knew!

that said the part of my braincell not dedicated to coming up with a bunch of new wips is focused on this particular one, that is:

the Accidental Summoning AU

working title: Batting for the demon team, alternative working title: The Clown Circle

it's a 8027 (yamamoto takeshi/sawada tsunayoshi from khr) fic!

Yamamoto is just some guy college student EXCEPT his mom was a witch and his distant ancestor on his dad's side was a demon

One day, after he comes back home for summer, he goes to the basement (to clean up or to look for pickles?? alternatively, though its something i just came up with, the lights suddenly go out during a storm and he comes down to check the power box) where he finds a weird circle under a bunch of stuff lying around there, then decides to uncover it, trips while doing it and accidentally activates the circle

enter Tsuna, part time cashier at a local 7/11, part demon, full time heir to a demon realm

there is a lot of screaming involved

yamamoto is both deafened and charmed, tsuna just worries he's going to get fired

"can you please PLEASE send me back it's the middle of the my shift i was just about to ring someone up i still have their groceries" (insert pleading eyes emoji, insert coochie eyes)

yamamoto tries, hits the barrier and pinballs around the whole thing

not the best way to learn youre in some part a demon but hey, yamamoto takes it all in stride

tsuna doesnt, tsuna thinks they're stuck

theyre stuck

gokudera the right hand arm- man poofs inside the circle in hot pursuit of the heir

gokudera is also a demon

gokudera now gets stuck with them too

gokudera promptly decides to cuss yamamoto out, give him a shovel talk and cry bc his boss-heir-bestie-boss got summoned on HIS watch how could he ever bear the shame, the responsibility-

another person poofs in

rinse and repeat until theres like 40 ppl who tried to free tsuna (and yamamoto I GUESS) squeezed in like 2 square meters of space, floor to ceiling

after hours yamamotos dad comes down to see why his son has been in the basement for so long

tl;dr he ends up having to erase the circle with literal fucking hammer and a chisel bc after so many years the chalk fused with the dirt on the floor

tl;dr 2: theres now 40 ppl spilling out all over the basement

tl;dr 3: yamamoto got himself a date

tl;dr 4: tsuna did get fired after all

tl;dr 5: its ok bc yamamoto is paying this time around

thats all i have so far?? at first it was supposed to be just the two of them but then i thought 'but.. What If' and now were here. in a clown car of a summoning circle!

Ok so I just saw the movie and i have A LOT to talk about and i need to get this out of my system so i can somehow sleep tonight 😂

First of all i LOVE that we were just thrown straight into the action during the opening scene. No bs just BOOM “SPIDER MAN HIT ME!!” SHUT THE FVCK UP KAREN!!

And speaking of karen’s lol, I binge watched every spider man movie ever during this past week and I watched far from home last night and UM at the end may asked peter where his bags were and then she goes “oh yeah they got blown up” AND UM PETER’S SUIT WAS IN HIS BAG. YOU KNOW, THE ICONIC RED AND BLUE ONE THAT TONY MADE FOR HIM. SO IS THAT DESTROYED? ARE WE EVER GUNNA HEAR FROM KAREN AGAIN!? PLEASE I NEED HER😫

NED AND PETER YELLING DUDE AT EACH OTHER THROUGH THE PHONE LOL

And then after all the sht he’s suddenly dealing with, all Peter wants to talk about is May and Happy’s relationship

Anyways the college scenes really struck me. I’m 19 so I literally just went through the whole college admissions process and Peter not getting accepted to any school, even despite his intelligence and achievements (like bruh he interned with tony freaking stark bro) was really sad honestly. And they fact that none of them got into MIT and you could see it on their faces was so upsetting

Also backtracking a bit, when they first mentioned how they wanted to go there when they were on the rooftop and Peter goes “there’s plenty of crime in boston right” i DIED at that cuz I’m from Massachusetts and dont live far from Boston at all and just hearing the name of the city im so close to was just 😄

And the “wicked” thing 😉 iykyk

So now we head to dr strange and all the snow lol. This scene was very different from what we saw in the trailers. I was expecting wong to tell him not to cast it but all he said was “leave me out of it”????? Like ??

Also he’s the sorcerer supreme now?? Cuz strange blipped? But shouldn’t the most powerful one be the sorcerer supreme like the last one said (remember, the bald lady. Idk if she actually had a real name)

But anyways I found it really interesting that wong never actually talked him out of casting the spell in canon.

Anyways I really like how the spell casting scene played out. How one by one Peter started adding ppl to the list of who should still be allowed to remember that he’s Spider-Man, and then how the world seemed to break apart, kind of symboling and foreshadowing the end of the movie.

I also love how Peter didn’t realize he could call MIT associates and plead his case to them. It shows how he’s still a kid and hasn’t learned that there’s multiple options instead of just one in any given situation. Which again kind of foreshadows the main plot divergence of the movie (how he wants to send them back but figures out ways to help them instead of letting them die)

Also, REALLY FLASH? PETER IS GOING THROUGH THIS SHT AND YOURE LOWKEY BLACKMAILING HIM?!

Anyways when Peter waved at the helicopter and was like I CAN SEE YOU I died 😂

And when doc oc showed up and the whole theater started screaming and cheering

But I absolutely love how we got to see Peter actually protecting regular old civilians during this scene. He was helping them off the bridge and saving the falling cars.

It gave serious parallels to tasm 1 when peter has all of the cars hanging off the bridge after his first encounter with the lizard

And I honestly dont like that lady he saved. Like bruh he really had to save your life for you to reconsider? As if he wasn’t already the smartest kid to apply to ur ‘dumb’ school

Lol see what i did there hehe

Anyways I really did love the scene where peter was fighting doc oc. And i LOVED when Peter took control of his arms with the nano tech and made him move around like a puppet 😂 and i LOST IT when he opened and closed his hand a few times like idk it was just so funny to me

AND WHEN GREEN GOBLIN THREW HIS BOMB THE WHOLE THEATER WENT INSANE AND THEN HE ACTUALLY APPEARED SKIDKDKDKSK MY FAVORITE VILLAIN EVER😫

Also when lizard showed up and everyone in the theater went crazy and they were like “A DINOSAUR” 😂

AND BRO WHEN THEY WERE DESCRIBING GREEN GOBLIN AND PETER’S LIKE “a flying..green elf” HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAA BRO THAT WAS ONE OF MY FAVORITE LINES IN THE WHOLE MOVIE I WAS LAUGHING FOR LIKE 10 MINUTES

Also whoever threw the paint at peter YOURE ON MY LIST TOO

But the inside-out spidey suit was cool af

Also im glad he started out as his blue self from tasm 2 and transitioned to getting his body back. “Are we just gunna pretend im not standing here buck a$$ naked”

And osborn fighting with his dark side and smashing his mask!! And then he goes and finds may and she implants the idea to help them in Peter’s head

And i love Peter’s moral compass. He doesn’t want the villains to die even when they do terrible things. Its a throwback to homecoming when he saves the vulture.

AND PETER FREAKING ASTRAL PROJECTING AND HE CAN STILL MOVE HIS PHYSICAL BODY BRO THAT WAS HILARIOUS.

But like im assuming its his natural spider sense thing. Like thats SO cool like he doesn’t even need to be conscious for his spidey sense to work

AND CAN WE TALK ABOUT SPIDER MAN IN THE MIRROR DEMENTION LIKE AHH

AND HE BEAT DR STRANGE AT OWN GAME. I looooved this scene cuz its a perfect combustion of spider man AND peter parker at work. He shows his actual intelligence by figuring out its geometry “you know whats cooler than magic.....MATH!!!!”

And when Peter takes them all back to happy’s place and later happy’s on the phone like ????

But anyways CAN WE TALK ABOUT HOW PETER RECREATED THE CHIP FOR OTTO LIKE OMFG THIS DR HAS SPENT HIS ENTIRE CAREER WORKING ON THIS STUFF AND PETER JUST FIGURES IT ALL OUT. They REALLY showcased Peter’s intelligence in this movie which i adored cuz we never got to see that side of him in the mcu. Like in tasm 1 we got the whole compilation of peter creating his web shooters and just generally being really smart so seeing mcu peter’s brain at work was soook satisfying

And call me crazy but I FREAKING LOVED Peter’s relationship with osborn. He seemed to actually really like Peter when green goblin wasn’t in control and it was very cool and refreshing to see.

And i love that immediately after doc oc gets cured he automatically wants to help peter

Now listen. Can we TALK about Peter’s spidey sense. This is what ffh was leading up to. I ADORED the way his spidey sense was portrayed in this movie. It was INCREDIBLY well done. The way the sound got muted and faded out and all of the voices were quiet and echo-y. And the way things ALMOST felt slow motion as he walked around happy’s home and how his footsteps were so loud and you could almost feel them. And that light high pitched sound that occurred every time he sensed something. (It reminded me of all the times peter hallucinates gwen’s father in tasm 2) I thought it was absolutely brilliant the way it was portrayed and it deserves some credit. It was so cool and creepy at the same time and it made the scene so suspenseful and unique. That build up to the first fight with green goblin was so well executed and was one of my favorite things about the whole movie

Speaking of favorite things in the movie, one of my favorite scenes was Peter’s fight with green goblin. It was SO suspenseful and just flat out insane. They way he told may to run before the fight started, the way everyone escaped, and the actual fight itself. It was just so BRUTAL ive never seen anything like it in an mcu movie. They were just trading blows back and forth with no freaking breaks. Goblin picked him up and slammed him into the floor so hard they smashed through multiple floors of the building. And Peter sitting on his shoulders/ front side and just repeatedly throwing gruesome punched and elbows at goblins head. It was so intense and flat out brutal.

And BRO when he had Peter pinned on the floor and he grabbed his hair and pulled him up a bit and Peter STILL tells may to run cuz the serum didn’t work. That was STRAIGHT OUT OF A FANFIC BRO I SWEAR. Thats like exactly how I picture peter in the fanfics when he’s getting hurt like that

And then when he sent the glider at May bro omfg. And on top of that he threw a BOMB TOO.

Bro I really wasn’t expecting may to die at all so it was a huge shock for me.

AND THE GREAT POWER GREAT RESPONSE LINE TOO 😫

And can i just say, Tom Holland you absolutely PHENOMENAL actor. That scene was one of the most heartbreaking scenes from any movie and tv show ive ever seen.

He was like “its okay we’ll take it easy” and “just please wake up and talk to me” but the line that really REALLY broke me was how he just KEPT REPEATING “it’s just you and me may. Its just you and me”

But he is going for a GED test which is something cuz he cant even get his high school diploma since no one remembers him or his school records or anything

There are so many problems thats Peter’s gunna have to face that most people probably haven’t even thought about and its so crazy

But literally this movie was just totally insane. I literally deleted all my social media apps so this wouldn’t get spoiled for me. I didn’t even read any fanfics just in case (im sooo excited to read some fix it fics with my three spider babies being cute brothers together (and my forevee fav irondad ones ofc))

It literally nailed everything on the head. The only thing I wouldve loved to see was stan lee. Even if it was just his face on a magazine cover like in venom. This is the biggest spider man movie of all time and it would’ve been really special for him to be in it somehow

This movie felt like no other marvel. Yes it had humor but it was honestly so dark, especially when u compare it to the other two spider man movies (ESPECIALLY homecoming) The only marvel movie that had this sort of dark feel was black widow and maybe endgame

And i love that they found a way to mention every single character even if they weren’t in the movie. Rhino, vulture, mysterio, mary jane, gwen, harry, etc. nothing and nobody was left out. They even teased miles!

And i loved the buildup and hype that came with this movie. All the times the actors were asked about it and all the memes we got from it. ANDREW IS OFFICIALLY THE WAREWOLF GUYS!!!

Also just wanna mention remember that pic that leaked of Andrew with his hand in the bar? And everyone was trying to figure out if it was real? Well when we saw that shot in the movie my freaking theater screamed AGAIN LOL

This movie was so crazy it literally feels like a fever dream now that I watched it. Like DID I REALLY JUST WATCH THAT AND IT ISNT SOMETHING IVE LITERALLY HAD DREAMS ABOUT!!? IS THIS REAL!? It blew by so fast man the pacing was so good i couldn’t tell how much time had passed

Also this is kinda random but i LOOOOOVED how they brought back a few of Peter’s homecoming outfits

But literally can we talk about this for a sec. Literally in like September of 2019 we received the news that disney and Sony couldn’t negotiate a new contract and it meant that tom would no longer be in the mcu. And now here we are two years later. Who would’ve thought back in 2019 that we’d end up with three generations of Spider-Man movie all together at once. It’s honestly mind blowing and making me emotional. Im so proud and happy for tom andrew and tobey.

Im so proud of everyone who worked on this movie and im so thankful that I was lucky enough to watch it, especially on the official opening night. The hour and half I spent trying to buy these tickets and all the prep i went through. It was truly an incredible experience. The audience I watched it with was so amazing, some dude literally did a backflip and screamed LETS GOOOO during the credits and we all cheered. The first time i ever experienced people screaming in a theater was during endgame and i was really hoping this would be the same and man did we out-do ourselves as an audience lol. Marvel fans TRULY ARE OUTMATCHED. I wore my spider man socks and a midtown high sweatshirt and even brought a spidey blanket with me. Im just so happy I was able to experience this. I literally cant wait to watch it again and make some edits for it (maybe even some fics too) Its was PHENOMENAL 3000/10❤️💙❤️💙❤️💙🕷🕷🕷

Hi jen! 20 something masc bisexual who just cant figure out if theyre a man or a woman here. I dont really feel comfortable talking about this stuff but writing anonymously is a lot less daunting and you seem like a really chill person and such a good mom. When i was youger, around 16, i cut my hair short and dressed less conventional (stopped wearing what my mom put out for me lol), bc i wanted to express myself. I didnt get the "mens" haircut i wanted originally, but i made up for it with flannels and hoodies. Slowly, occasionally, people started to ask me my sex/gender and when someone read me as male i was over the moon. By the time i was 18 i had stopped wearing makeup and tried hard to pass as male. It became pretty exhausting and my bestfriend is a very feminine guy, who usually gets read as a woman, inspired me to care less what people think i am. Im trying to take things as they come but with my mullet (thick long hair in the back) i noticed people read me as female more often than not. Its not insulting, but i cant help but feel disappointed. It felt so right when people read me as male. Im considering transitioning but i hate the idea of coming out to my family (as trans) and im scared of "being wrong about all this and screwing my body up", even thougt I like the prospect of the physical changes testosterone brings. All in all, I feel like ive been stuck in this undecided period for so long and something needs to change.

Im grateful for any words of advice :)

I am so sorry for the delay, my seasonal side jobs keep me very busy. I owe you some sincerity here because you asked and trust me to give you the truth, at least as I see it.

Of course I cannot in anyway see inside you or know the mix of emotions you have or the complex amount of experiences you have had in your 20 something life. When someone is struggling with hard questions being “PC” does no one any favors so here is my best take, but ultimately you know what is best and perhaps a therapist that will not just be a "yes" person would be very helpful.

Firstly, if you decide to transition for whatever reason, comfort, ease of experiencing the world etc, there is no rule that says you have to do anything at all to alter your body. You can be who you are within yourself. I am a lesbian and a woman whether or not some stranger on the street thinks so. (and the amount of time I am called "sir" in one day changes absolutely zero about me). Same applies to you. If you are concerned about medical or hormonal intervention you are not wrong to have caution. Anytime we take any medication from a blood pressure pill to nasal spray, doing due diligence and understanding the affects on our body is important. And each of us must take into consideration body health, genetics, dr suggestions, past medical history and the reality of what time, money and effort we are capable of exerting, especially if it means for a life time

That all being said short hair, clothes, your interests and personality are not (should not) be gendered. There is no reason a woman can’t be and exist as a female who is not always thrilled with her body (looks and function) and be a human who loves doing a myriad of things that may or may not fit what society prescribes as our gender roles.

You say you are disappointed when read as female? Why? Do you dislike that they are not seeing the real you OR because you know being read as such means, in our culture, you are seen as less capable, treated differently, perceived as weak, not as smart as men and treated as the lesser of our society simply based on your body? Either way, this is a them problem and not a you problem. You are as flawed, strong, smart, confident as you are no matter how they see you. It is not up to them to decide how human you get to be based on what sex you are. No one fits all the general attributes imposed gender roles wish for us to follow.

Ask yourself, if I transition and am still consistently read as female, how will that affect me? Will I become angry because I am putting time, effort and money into presentation and people still see what they see? Am I going to feel better able to shrug off mistakes make by quick glances or because people have known me for years because I am more true to me? Transition should happen in a vacuum, in my opinion. (disclaimer: I am not trans so perhaps this is not how trans men feel) You are who you are whether in a crowd of people or alone in a forest. Others should never make that decision or set the bar for you. EVER. They have no investment in your internal self.

Since you are asking me, this is my experience. In my early years i understood very quickly how I was treated differently when people (men and women) saw me as a little boy instead of a little girl. In my teens I saw the way girls who hit puberty before me were immediately treated sexually, will less respect and I was like” well shit”. I would have happily been seen as a boy/man and probably went to length to insure that. At 12 I was pretty confident I wanted to be or should have been a boy. My mom very colorfully explained to me there are issues with both sides and am a girl who wants what boys get in the world.. sooo get them as a girl. THEN I met other lesbians and butches and bi women who are masculine and they told me their stories.. which were just like mine. I realized to be a man I had to give up being a woman and being a woman, my reality, physically and in my upbringing (in the 1980′s and 1990″) was the best and only way to connect to other people because I was not different with them or alone. I needed to be me 24/7 not just in public, not just at parties, not just with friends, but when I was alone, at night or mowing the yard. Perception and societal opinion had nothing to do with my body, my mind, my personality.

Am I still affected by gender roles? Of course. Our society genders everything from pocket knives (camo or pink camo) to cars, abilities to shampoo! Do i sometimes let it slide when a man thinks he is talking to another man, sure.. why not? I learn somethings (some things I don’t want to know on occasion). But at the end of the day, most of the people I deal with begin to see me as a kind, capable women or...(translation: human) and when it counts I don’t want to be vague or dodgy about my sex, my gender or my sexual orientation. Who I am, who I deserved to be, my right to exist as me is too important. None of these were over night revelations. Time, experience, community as all helped me understand:

You have to live with you forever and always, don’t try to exist as the easiest way for society to view you.

You know what im tired of ice cold haida takes appearing in the aggretsuko s3 tag so my thots episode 10 are as follows:

1. We really dont know how long its been since the INCIDENT, but i think for retsuko to be at risk of losing her damn job i think shed have to take quite the leave. And think about it, it makes sense that shed spend days if not months, holed up in her parents house with her overbearing mother and completely isolating herself from her friends for them to try to get her out with teeth and nails. Its not like them to be insensitive of the trauma she went through and drag her straight back to work after AN ATTEMPTED MURDER HOLY SHIT

2. Is haida an idiot if hes clinging on to the hope of them being together even after being rejected? Yes! Retsuko says it herself basically! But this isnt what the karaoke scene was really about in my opinion. Retsuko has pushed away her work friends away for long enough, treating them like acquaintances and bottling up her secrets for years and she genuinely doesnt seem to realize how much both fenneko and haida care for her. She rejects haida especially because of his romantic interest but really she rejected his friendship just as well. And haida is fed up, the feelings he talks about - its his care for retsuko above all else. Despite what retsuko thinks, hes not trying to be her knight in shining armor. Hes just trying to help a friend in need - in a rash, spontaneous, maybe stupid kinda way, but its his way.

3. If not for that matchmaking result hed never have worked up the courage to see retsuko at all. It gave him hope that maybe if he cant be retsukos boyfriend, he can at least still care for her, and if those results are anything to go off on - that the two of them could get slong as really good friends. Not just acquaintances or coworkers - it gave him hope that he can actually do something for her instead of passively watching her suffer from the sidelines as she lies to his face that everything is fine. That was his breaking point! And really when retsuko tells haida not to impose his feelings on her and mind his business (which is a totally reasonable thing for her to say) i can see why he gets so agitated. Just because youve been rejected doesnt mean you stop caring about said person, when theyre suffering, it pains you to know theres nothing you can do. It pains you for your help to be rejected the same way. This isnt some twisted way haida's trying to get retsuko to like him, his intentions lie in helping her get back on her feet with the support of a friend (i.e. himself). True, the whole ordeal mightve not looked the best onscreen, (with how suddenly haida acted) but i really think this was the intention behind it.

3. Retsuko can be too passive for her own good, and if she wasnt gloated to stand her ground, scream out her emotions, and face her fears again, shed have never gotten out of her funk. Despite haidas strange methods, it turned out to be exactly what she needed yall. That much can be certain! I doubt the two of them are together now, but i think this episode was crucial in retsukos journey of opening up to people and not being scared of asking people for help. And in a similar way, a step to trusting haida.

Haida talks a lot of how he doesnt really know retsuko all that well - but he surely knows her better than she does him. Maybe this is the moment where retsuko finally realizes that shes been misunderstanding his good intentions all this time and makes an effort to get to know him, and fenneko just as well, which doesnt have to be romantic anyway.

TL;DR

Haida made the right choice bringing retsuko to the karaoke bar and helping her not lose her job, suck my dick

benrey and gman species headcanons!!!!

so i was thinking about benreys abilities and as i wrote out headcanons i decided u know what. i think benrey and gman are the same species. so here are some thoughts about their species:

- massive eldritch horrorterrory creatures, literally incomprehensible to the human brain. youd probably die if you saw their true forms, your brain would just overload and shut down

- so to exist in the science teams universe, they make themselves appear humanlike juzt so they dont accidentally kill people. also just for practicalities sake - way easier to walk through a door if youre human sized hsjfkhsdjk

- ofc they only LOOK human - theyre still all fucked up and monstery and can shapeshift. gman is older than benrey and has pretty much full control at all times over his form, benrey meanwhile struggles a bit to maintain it and forgets stuff about humans - like that their limbs dont bend that way, or their heads cant turn 180 degrees, or that they only have one row of teeth

- they are a mainly Predator Species and so a lot of their biology fits this!!!:

- bioluminescent eyes act as lure like anglerfish - and also sweet voice! ill go a bit more into sweetvoice in a moment but in hunting context, its used as pretty, hypnotic lure for prey and also to calm prey and induce docility and prevent fighting back (benrey doesnt rlly hunt so he just uses it to calm down gordon when he thinks hes too mad)

- benrey in particular’s “huh? whuh?” thing is cause natural predator instinct to hyperfocus on one thing coupled with Neurodivergency means he finds it really difficult to switch conversation topics or pay attention to multiple things at once.

- i thought a lot about communication as well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:

- their species has 3 basic forms of communication, or at least those are the 3 ive thought about:

- 1 is nonverbal - thats a LOT of their communication. body language, certain types of blinking or finger movement etc communicates tons. just like a species like a cat or rabbit.

- 2 is how they talk to their young. again, like cats, eldritches have a reserved form of communication (like meowing) for their babies. this is telepathy - they use it to talk directly and comfortingly to their kids and to immediately figure out what they need. this has also evolved into how they talk to humans - like cats meow at humans cause they see them as big babies.

- and eldritches dont actually speak english, they telepathically convert their language to whatever the humans mother tongue is, projecting the language straight into their head. annoying comparison, but like the tardis’ telepathic field in dr who.

- added onto this, this is why benreys english gets worse when hes emotional. e.g: “im a great cool, so now i gonna be bad”. he struggles more to keep up the telepathy when hes upset or ecstatic, so his english sounds more distorted.

- and ALSO benrey forgets as well that humans cant communicate telepathically. hell respond to something someone thought or read their emotions and react accordingly/get them what they need and he’ll be SO confused when theyre like “wtf how did you do that”

- 3 is SWEETVOICE!!! this is a big part of all assets of their language - its a simple ingrained way to communicate simple emotions and greetings etc, like “nice to meet you” “i like you” “i am feeling angry, dont talk to me” etc.

- gman doesnt use it as much because its generally considered a more simplistic and childish way to talk, as its the first way children learn to communicate outside of telepathy to express their basic emotions. benrey uses it a lot because he Likes It!!!!!!!! it easily expresses what hes trying to say.

- this is also why tommy knows how to read sweetvoice - personally i believe hez human and was adopted by gman but gman still taught him how to read sweetvoice. as hes adopted he cant do it himself, but hes the one who understands benreys communication the best cause he was raised by an eldritch

- the skeletons!! eldritches can create entities to assist them, theyre not living creatures they only exist while the species wants them to. benreys are the skeletons - they help him in the final battle and everything.

- benreys also a younger, weaker eldritch than gman is, and uses his skeletons in a slightly different way. the skeleton that asks gordon for his passport isnt ACTUALLY benrey, its an entity benrey has created while hes temporarily dead to project himself out of while his actual form is rebuilding itself in Limbo.

- i believe the whole thing gman was saying about benrey needing to be contained and everything after he was “killed” is just cause hes an abnormally immature/emotional eldritch, and is pretty outcasted and chaotic as far as things go. like usually these creatures are out being Space Diplomats or apex predators or smth meanwhile benrey just likes Being Around Humans And Playing Video Games :] hes looked down upon a bit

remember when I was gonna write that parkner fic?

cool so I've decided I'm gonna, but because I cannot write for SHIT and I hate my writing every time I see it, ill just share my outline of what I have so far. its not coherent. sorry.

Section one: aunt may dies. It’ll be like “it's been 3 months. 3 months since May was shot. 2 months and 3 weeks since she died.”

Something like that idc. Basically this section will base around peter living tony, because he’s not doing well, and he is only 17- which is not actually old enough to be on your own after something like this. Setting is established, with cameos from dr strange (who tony is dating and lives with (yeah bite me, this is my fanfiction i can make it what i want.) it will be made obvious that this takes place after endgame, which also means that tony is Not going to die. I’m not that mean lmao. The avengers are like largely together, there was not as much death in this as there was in endgame. Whatever. Everyone is very nice to peter because they know that for him its either this or him becoming a ward of the state so like.

Section two: harley gets kicked out. His mom finds out that he’s gay (from gossip sources idk) and kicks harley out. Im not going to write them having a big fight like in the moment, but harley will recount what happened somewhat to tony in this section, and then more to peter later in the story. Gay ppl trauma dump, we know this. Okay anywaysss so harley calls tony literally sobbing and like freezing fucking cold. IM SORRY IM BEING SO MEAN TO THEM I PROMISE THEY'LL GET A HAPPY ENDING. Okay. harley explains how his mom kicked him out. Tony asks why, harley says something like “she didn’t agree with my lifestyle choices” like bitterly. Tony is a good person in this (i know, im really taking some character liberties) and he’s in the mood for collecting strays apparently, so he has happy send over the quinjet. He can’t make it himself bc hes in fucking japan or something for the next few weeks,, but. Yeah! Tony also calls peter, who is presumably in bed and feeling depressed. “Hey pete. How ya feeling? Any better?’ ‘Not really, tony. Sorry.’ ‘you don’t have to be sorry-’ ‘damn tony you sound like my therapist.’ “sorry pete, but i do have something to tell you- you know harley?’ ‘only from what you’ve told me about him, but yea. He was the tennessee garage kid, right?’ ‘i mean. Yes. so- he’s gonna come stay with me for a while too- it might not be permanent but it will probably be a bit. He’s about your age, and he just has no where to go (just like u). He’s not going to stay in your room or anything, but with bruce and thor here, he will be in your apartment area.’ ‘okay tony.. Will i have to talk to him a bunch?’ ‘not if you don’t want to- i already warned him about you, so it should be okay. I wouldn’t worry so much pete- you guys are so similar in a lot of ways that i wanted to introduce you two long before he called me.’ ‘okay tony, i trust you. Thank you again for letting me stay with you :)’ (yeah that kind of got away from me)

Section 3: build up. this is a shorter section. Harley and peter are gonna meet in section 4. This section is harley’s jet ride (with an intuitive happy) and harley’s nerves about how he really isn’t worth this (i mean hes pretty intimidated tony sent a private jet just for him) and happy like reassures him. Hes still insecure though. Peter is also nervous bc what if harley doesn’t like him? What if he doesn’t like harley?? Tony did say they would get along, but peter hasn’t really been himself recently, so who knows? Yeah lots of that. I do want to emphasize though- peter is not completely unhealthily coping. Like he has a therapist and he has been reaching out to ned and mj, but its still an open wound for him. Obviously. He still has a sense of humor though, but its to cover these deep insecurities. Like the first month or so that he was with tony, he was reallllyyyy trying to not get close to him bc he sort of thinks he kills everyone around him. Like logically he knows this isn’t true, but he does really think the that non superheroes that he surrounds himself with are very at risk if they know about his spider-man-ness. The only people who know now are ned and mj (may knew too).

Section 4: the meeting of harley and peter. Keep in mind peter has been living in this apartment/area of stark tower for about 3 months now. He actually moved in while may was in the hospital because he couldn’t stand to be alone in the apartment when he knew why may wasn’t there. And um. Yeah. so peter is like comfortable in this space, basically. Also- the reason theyre in the same apartment is because stark tower was not really created with the idea of housing broken orphans in mind, so it only has a certain amount of residential space. Thor and bruce are currently staying there together (although no one really knows if theyre together, or if theyre just best bros who went through some extreme trauma together and are now inseparable. Hmmm wonder if thats gonna come up later) and theyre using one apartment, and happy lives there with his own apartment, and tony and stephen are currently sharing the penthouse, even though thats not public knowledge. Really only the people close to tony know that he’s dating stephen. So. this leaves just the one other 2 bedroom apartment for peter and harley. It has one bathroom, and the bedrooms are connected by a door but theyre pretty big so like. Theres a kitchen, a living room with a fancy ass tv, and a really pretty view (with a balcony bc <333). May died in march, peter got leave from the school in april, and it is now the middle of june btw. Tony is now peter’s official guardian (he was before may died anyways) and now has sole guardianship over him which he has fully accepted, even though peter and him both know that there are going to be times where he has to go out of town bc he does own a company after all. Times like right now. Harley is pretty nervous that tony isn’t going to be there to greet him and that he is going to have to like introduce himself to peter and everything. Cmon, theres no reason to feel like that, he’s the one intruding after all, he should at least be able to handle himself. (<--- harley’s thoughts). Yeah so theyre insecure super cool. A n y w a y s so peter was stressing about harley as he arrived, and so when harley walked in they were both complete bundles of nerves. Harley walks up but knocks. Peter actually jumps (bc spidey sense okay whatever) and goes to get the door. Oh my god these awkward teenagers i hate them so much (i love them). Peter kinda looks like shit, sorry king. He was a little bit crying earlier, then tony called and he switched into stressed out ball-of-anxiety mode. Distractions are good, its okay. Peter opens the door for harley and they like introduce each other all awkward (again sorry) and peter shows harley where he is staying. Harley doesnt really have muchhhh bc he was kicked out and all. He just has a suitcase full of clothes, his favorite blanket, his favorite stuffed animal (yeah whatever bc ofc he does) and his phone/charger. He sets all his stuff down at once. He thanks peter for letting him stay in his apartment and also said sorry. First thing peter noticed was harley’s accent. Stfu. peter asks why harley’s here- ok. Harleys had a long ass day. Too fucking long. He- he breaks down. He tells peter a lot. About how his mom found out that he was gay, and how she told him never to come back. Yikes. Anyways, this is establishing the beginning of their relationship as friends. Peter is there for him even though he doesn’t know him at all. Peter sees some of himself in harley in this moment, even though he’s not talking about himself yet. Eventually harley does ask about peter, and they really just get to know each other really quick. They have these deep scarring individual traumas, and neither has nearly recovered, but they find comfort in just knowing that theyre not alone in their suffering. At least for now. At least in this moment.

Section 5: the next day. Peter and harley spent that whole night talking about what they were going through. Peter said good night at around 5 am (there were no adults around they can do what they want to) and they both got good sleeps. In peter’s case, one of the first solid nights he’s had in a while. Harley was kept up a little longer after peter left, however, because he just couldn’t shut off his mind. It was really cathartic for him to just lay everything out there and for someone to just accept him. Peter told him he was bi, but he was.. Lucky. He had accepting people in his life. May was accepting. God, harley couldn’t fathom having lost everyone in his life, everyone he ever cared about, and still having the heart to sit and talk with the dumbass anxious gay kid who can’t go home anymore. His problems felt so small compared to peter’s, and all he could do was admire peter’s resilience and how he was seemingly able to bounce back from anything. God, peter was something. He couldn’t wait to get to know him more. With that thought circling in his head, he finally went to sleep at oh shit 6:30 am. Peter woke up around 1. Harley at 2. When harley woke up, peter was watching tv and eating cereal on the couch and he just sat down next to him. No words, just sleepy children being sleepy. They stayed like this for like an hour when someone knocked on their door. Enter stephen strange!!!!!!!!!!! Get excited people. Hes just coming in to check on them bc tony told him to, and he didn’t get the chance last night bc he was _busy_. K so now he’s here and hes awkward and he just wants to make sure these boys r okay bc theyve both been through too much recently, and it would be just the cherry on top if they didn’t get along. Him and harley had never actually met before so he like introduced himself and all that. Offered like if they needed anything he was there, and its only gonna be a few days until tony gets back (did i say a week earlier? Im retconning that bc i cannot find it in my writing so it is now retconned). Peter and harley just have to sort of explain to dr strange that theyre getting along gREAT and there is no need for concern….. And peter was even thinking about showing harley around the city a bit that night (something he had not yet told harley, but wanted to make it seem like he was doing well and not acting too depressed in front of Dr. Strange) so dr strange is like yeah !!!!!! do that, that sounds super fun petey !!!!!! and so now they have evening plans
