Playing House (alpha!agatha harkness x omega!reader)
Tumblr media
this is my first time doing anything omegaverse so yeah
warnings: omegaverse, mommy kink, kinda unhealthy relationship, professor!alpha!agatha, innocence/corruption kink, legal age gap, smut
word count: 1778
summary: agatha was your professor, and she took you under her wing. sure she was an alpha, you were an omega, and you had a crush on her and would always try to play house, but that doesn’t mean anything! Right?
You didn’t honestly expect that Agatha would want to be your alpha. Out of the kindness of her heart, she had taken you under her wing. At the time she was your neighbor, and a professor at the local college, which you had attended. You didn’t expect anything more than that.
Your first semester, you lived in a small apartment by yourself. You had made some friends, two betas and an alpha, and you were doing well in your classes. At first. The stress got to you quickly though. Your parents began to fight and told you they were splitting up at the same time as your friends turned on you. Your performance in your classes started to drop as well. You only had one good thing left, and that was your History of Witchcraft class with professor Agatha Harkness.
Agatha was a beautiful older woman who also happened to live on your floor. She was always kind to you and made sure you were okay.
“Hey, superstar. I heard you crying, are you okay? You wanna come over, have some company while you study? I can make you dinner.”
“I- I don’t want to bother you. I’m sorry you heard.”
“No bother at all, I’m serious. I just want to help you. God, this place is so tiny. Mine has a lot more space if you’re interested.” You came over to her apartment and spent a lovely, peaceful evening with her. You felt happy and less lonely. She did make dinner for you, and she didn’t make you talk about your problems. She just sat with you, being there if you needed her.
You would sometimes come over to her apartment just to talk, just to feel you had someone in your corner. You knew Agatha was an alpha, you could smell it on her, but you never discussed it. You assumed your attraction to her was probably not returned, as she had not yet made a move and you were so much younger than she was, and such a mess. You were there more and more, until you practically lived together. You even fell asleep on her couch from time to time and she would take care not to wake you, tucking you in and making some extra coffee the next morning.
Things changed between the two of you, slowly at first. You spent even more time with her, cuddling her and studying together and having fun. Your liked to cook for her, and you thought it was fun to play house a bit with the older, more experienced alpha. It fulfilled a fantasy you had that you didn’t think was possible. But she always played along, and was loving and caring.
“You’re just adorable, baby. You made this for me?” She would say after you surprised her with dinner.
“Of course!”
You also liked to bake, and were quite good at it. You would use your talent to impress Agatha every chance you got, and it worked.
“That’s amazing. You’re gonna make some alpha really happy one day, hon.”
Agatha never acknowledged that you were an omega before. You were sure that she knew, but she never said anything about it. If you were honest, the fact that she was acknowledging it at all excited you.
Agatha liked to show that she could be protective of you as well.
“It’s okay, little one. Mama’s got you,” she would say, possessively wrapping an arm around you as you watched a scary movie. She often referred to herself as mama or mommy and eventually got you to call her by those names as well. One day she suggested that the two of you begin sharing her bed instead of you sleeping on her pull-out couch like you’ve been.
“It might be good for you. Comforting. I know you get nightmares and it might be nice to have mommy to look out for you, isn’t that right baby?”
“Yes, mommy. Please let me sleep in your bed.”
You were adorably naive, oblivious to the alpha’s obvious attraction to you. To everyone else it seemed shameless, the older woman doting on you and constantly being with you. But you just took it as the affection you needed. Her being nice to you, almost too nice. You didn’t seriously think she wanted you like that. But then, you didn’t see the way Agatha stared when you weren’t paying attention, the way she watched you as you slept peacefully next to her. You didn’t know that the real reason Agatha would often shift her body when you cuddled up to her was so you wouldn’t feel her arousal. You had no idea how your scent drove her crazy, and never questioned how she would disappear into the bathroom increasingly often as your scent began to be a permanent fixture of the house. Agatha managed to control herself, knowing she would scare you off if she moved the relationship too fast. But this was killing her. She wanted you more than anything in the world.
Everything changed one day, when you were busy studying for finals. Your last semester you managed to pass, but your grades weren’t great. You desperately wanted to ace this semester and raise your gpa, and you were studying so hard that you forgot something vital.
You forgot to take your heat suppressants.
Shit.
You didn’t know what to do. You couldn’t focus on studying anymore, that was for sure. And Agatha was away. Even if she was with you, would she want to be your alpha? Would she be uncomfortable? You knew Agatha would surely be able to tell.
And oh, she could tell. The second Agatha got home, she could smell it. You were in heat. It was time.
“You okay there, superstar? Need a little help?”
“I- I’m okay! Don’t worry about me Aggie…”
“No. Don’t do that,” Agatha said as she came over to you, “Stop pretending you don’t want me. I’ve been so patient, taking care of you and convincing you and making sure I don’t scare you. And now you need me, don’t you?”
“I didn’t think- I didn’t think you’d want to be with me…”
“What did you think this was then, little one? You didn’t think I wanted you? You didn’t think you’ve been driving me crazy? Of course you didn’t. Sweet, innocent thing.”
You couldn’t believe what you were hearing. This woman you loved and wanted felt the same way about you. She gently rested her hands on you and propped you up against some pillows. She felt you shaking.
“My poor little girl. Poor baby,” Agatha said, teasingly rubbing her hands on your inner thighs, covered in slick.
“Mommy… please…”
“Baby, I think it’s only fair that you feel what you do to me before I make you feel better. You’ve been such a tease. Feel, baby.”
She grabbed your hand and placed it on the crotch of her pants, her bulge apparent. You rubbed it a bit and she let out a low groan.
“That feels so fucking good baby. I can’t wait to be inside you.”
You whined, growing more impatient. Agatha spread your thighs and rubbed her clothed bulge against your aching pussy.
“Please, mommy! Take me, claim me! I need you to be my alpha, please. Please I want you mommy…”
“Aww, your begging is adorable, baby. Have you wanted me all this time? And you’ve never said anything?”
“I didn’t think… I didn’t think you… ugh…”
“God, you’re so fucking naive. You’re a pretty, sweet little omega. Why would you ever think the alpha you live with wouldn’t notice you? Wouldn’t be desperate to make you hers?”
You had never really thought of yourself that way. You didn’t think you were the type of omega that someone like Agatha would be so completely desperate for. But you were, and she was.
“Make me yours, Alpha. Please.”
Agatha took it slow at first, starting with one finger, as you whined and begged for more.
She added another finger, while teasing you.
“You’re such a sweet thing. You’ve never even had an alpha before have you? You’ve gone this long without being satisfied, just trying to take your heat suppressants and live life on your own?”
And another finger.
“Poor baby. That’s not what an Omega needs. Cute little Omegas like you need an Alpha to take care of them, to own them. You’ve shown me during all these months we’ve lived together that that’s what you need. You keep pretending to be my wife, cooking and cleaning and decorating. It’s adorable, and I knew exactly what it meant. Tell me what you want, baby. Tell me.”
“I want you to be my Alpha! I want you to own me!”
“That’s right, baby. Now that you’re all warmed up, let’s finally start this.” Agatha pulled her fingers out of you and you whined at the loss, but knew something better was coming as she began taking her clothes off. Under her shirt was a lacy black bra, and she unzipped her fly.
“Mommy needs to be inside you, baby. Are you ready?”
“Please, Mommy. Please, I can’t wait any longer! I need your pups inside me!”
“Oh you do, don’t you?” Said Agatha as she entered you, causing a loud, shaky moan of pure pleasure to fall out of you. “You want Mommy to knot you, to fill you up, trapped inside you until she’s satisfied?”
You nodded frantically and begged for more, harder, it felt so good to be filled up and stretched so thoroughly.
“You’re so big, Mommy! It’s so good, you feel so good!”
“I’m gonna stretch you out, little one, you’re gonna be my perfect little Omega fucktoy! Yes, that feels better than I imagined. I’m- baby- is it really okay if I knot you, if I give you a bite, I think I’m about to-“
“Please! Knot me! Claim me! I want to be yours forever, I want your pups, please…”
You felt Agatha growing even bigger inside of you and figured this must be her knot. You have never in your whole life felt a pleasure this intense, and it was intensified as Agatha bit down on your neck as she came inside of you. You gave her a matching bite as she continued to rut inside you as you finally came.
“I can’t believe you’re finally mine. I love you, my little angel. You’ll be so happy with me, I promise I’ll give you the best life.”

Hi Neil, I don't know if it's really true but I read that Agatha Christie felt so much antipathy towards Poirot's personality that she wanted to kill him off. She "kept him alive" for a long time because the readers of her books were huge fans of this character. I brought this up because I would like to ask that have you ever had a similar relationship with one of your fictional creations? If yes (and if it's not a secret) which character was it and why did you hate it?
I know you receive plenty of messages so there is a tiny little chanche that you'll read mine but I try. Maybe a miracle happens and you'll reply. Oh, and English is not my mother tongue, so excuse me for my mistakes. Have a nice day yet. :-)
No, I never have. But I don't write a lot of sequels, and don't go back anywhere I don't want to return to.

What books would characters from The Hobbit read?
This idea came up to me a while ago, but now I have to share it, so here me out ig:
Tumblr media
I think Bilbo would read everything he can get his hands on. But mostly fantasy novels, history books, basically anything that would include a piece of unknown world. I just know that he would love Edgar Allan Poe, Jules Verne and I think he would enjoy Brandon Sanderson's books.
Tumblr media
Here's a controversial one, but I think Thorin would mostly read poetry. Especially the Lake Poets. He would read poems about home, love, a warm place where people can feel safe. That's what he wanted, that's why he wanted to regain Erebor. (He would also read romance novels in his free time, but nobody knows about it. Fili and Kili would die twice if they found out. Of laughing and because Thorin would chase them with a knife).
Tumblr media
Kili wouldn't read much. He would mostly watch films, but if he once in a while picks up a book it's usually a romance-comedy, or the worst and the most traumatising horror book, a person could ever read. He would recommend them to people by saying "It's a really good book! You will enjoy it!" and then laugh when they come back traumatised. He would like "Ring", "Haunting Adeline" and literally anything by Jane Austen.
Tumblr media
Fili would read mostly criminal books or just contemporary fiction. He wouldn't have high expectations for books, but he would complain about every detail if he didn't like one. He would be the type of guy that says "the book was better" after he watched a movie based of a book. Even if he didn't read this particular book, he would say that, just to piss people off.
Tumblr media
Porn.
Tumblr media
Ori would read contemporary fiction, like Fili, and he would be the victim of Bofur's and Kili's recommendations. Poor guy. He would also read classic romance novels. I have a feeling that he would love Jane Austen's and Bronte sisters' works. I don't know why but it fits. Look at him.
Tumblr media
History books and war literature. Do I have to explain myself? This guy would give you an hour long monologue about the emergence of the Balkan countries and you would listen to every word he says. After that he would make you a cup of tea and then asked what books you like to read. And somehow, even if you read a completely different genre, he would recommend you something that you would really enjoy.
Tumblr media
Nori's the type of guy who says that he reads everything, even if that's a complete bullshit. He would only read criminal novels (he would have read all of Agatha Christie and killed you if you would say you don't like her work) and sometimes japanese classic literature. And by that I mean Edogawa Ranpo and his "The Human Chair" or "The Hornworm".
Tumblr media
I just know that Dwalin would have read "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" like twenty times as a kid. When he was a little older, he tried classic literature, poetry, adventure, sience fiction, war literature, a few romance novels, horror books... He's the true "I read everything" guy. His favourite authors would be Dostoevsky, Karl Adolph Gjellerup (but he wouldn't be a fan of the femme fatale thing) and John Milton.
Tumblr media
Cook books.

i just know akashi would be insufferable to read/watch a cozy murder mystery with because 3 clues in, he’s got a working hypothesis to who the killer is and 2 more clues later, he’s piecing together the motives of a compiled list of suspects and before the detective has it figured out, he’s already recreated the entire incident. and he’s not even spoiling it for you, he just figures it out. (the only way to keep him from doing so is to pick mysteries told through vignetted, unreliable perspectives or hardboiled detective fiction but even that only delays the inevitable. he will find out. that’s a threat.)
“how do you know that’s how he did it?”
“because it’s how i would have done it.”
“excuse me?”
also he’s an agatha christie fan. if you even care

If You Like Benoit Blanc...
Ever since Glass Onion came out, it seems like everyone’s obsessed with Benoit Blanc and these types of mysteries! Which is great; as someone who loves them, I’m thrilled to have more people interested in the genre. So, if you’re looking for more murder mystery stuff, might I offer some recommendations?
Hercule Poirot
Tumblr media
Agatha Christie’s delightful Belgian detective might be the most similar to Blanc of any of the big detectives out there. And with countless novels, short stories, the tv show, and the recent movies, there’s plenty of Poirot content out there for you to enjoy! I personally recommend buying a collection of the short stories and starting from there, but really, there’s no wrong way to get into one of the world’s most famous detectives!
(Note: Agatha Christie was a wealthy British woman who began being published in the 1920′s, and this shows in some of her stories. Most of what I’ve read I’d construe as not meaning badly but definitely of the times, but it’s worth noting!)
Columbo
Tumblr media
If you like the parts of Glass Onion where Blanc plays up the old fashioned, Southern charm and acts like a simpleton, Columbo is the detective for you. The whole conceit of this show is that we actually know whodunnit and the question is how is Columbo going to figure it out. Usually the answer is looking shabby, rambling, talking about his wife, and trapping people in their own lies. It’s incredibly satisfying to watch, and Columbo himself is very memeable.
Murder, She Wrote
Tumblr media
The late, great Dame Angela Lansbury and her hit show Murder, She Wrote have actually been referenced in both Knives Out movies and it’s no wonder why. Jessica Fletcher is an acclaimed murder mystery author who uses her keen observation skills, knowledge from researching her books, and grandmotherly demeanor to solve murder mysteries. It’s a delightful show filled with tons of guest stars you’re bound to recognize, and J.B. Fletcher really is one of the great fictional detectives.
Pushing Daisies
Tumblr media
Okay, admittedly I’m mostly including this one because I think everyone should watch Pushing Daisies at some point. It’s part murder mystery, part romcom, part musical, part absurdist comedy with an absolutely enchanting style. Our leads are a piemaker with necromantic powers, a dead girl walking, a jockey turned waitress, a private investigator who also knits and writes pop-up books, and two retired mermaid entertainers. It’s whimsical and wild in all the best ways while still having really creative, engaging mysteries.
There are so many incredible, unique murder mysteries out there- the genre really spans so many wonderful stories. These are just a few that I think are really fun and fans of Beniot Blanc will enjoy! For my fellow murder mystery fans, I’d love to hear what you’d recommend to folks just starting to get familiar with the genre as well!

We are adults. ‘Lucifer’ and ‘Dracula’
Tumblr media
Once in the chat, discussing Dracula, I said that it would be nice to write a fanfic about Dracula running a nightclub in London. To which one of the participants answered me, ‘Darling, such a story already exists, it`s Lucifer.’ I shrugged my shoulders and forgot about it. And a few weeks ago I decided to watch the series finally.
I absolutely loved the first three seasons, it`s brilliant. Smart, funny, dramatic, elegant. Tom Ellis is very good. He and his play are my discovery of the year. But the most interesting thing about the series, for me, is what follows from its similarities and differences with Dracula.
The similarity of motives, plot, and even to some extent – genre is obvious. But the differences are more difficult. Although they lie on the surface, making you realize at some point why the series Lucifer had problems and why it was closed after the third season.
Why do I love Dracula? For many reasons, but one of the main ones is that this is a film for adults. And not only because the heroes are over forty and have problems, consistent with their age but also because it was written and played at an adult level. You see, the main female character of Lucifer at the beginning of the film is thirty-five years old, and Lucifer himself, by human standards, looks forty-something, but at the same time, they have teenage problems and relationships.
Well, a grown-up woman can`t, giggling, bat her eyes and say to a grown-up man, ‘This is a date, right? Oh, I don’t know…’ or at every hint of sexual or emotional intimacy, wave her hands and say that that`s not what she meant. When characters do this, it inevitably involves teenage context and – of course – teen romance clichés. I saw reviews that said, ‘How is it that Chloe doesn`t react to Lucifer`s power? What is this, teenage fan fiction?’ Yes. With such a heroine, this can only be a teenage fanfic. And combined with her age, it looks terrible.
This approach to the heroine logically gives rise to another teenage cliche: the ideal girl and the bad guy.
That`s why I love Dracula and the relationship between Dracula and Agatha so much. Agatha was never a good girl and never considered herself one. Her monastic habit in this sense is a mockery of herself (in the text) and a reminder to the authors that ‘not everyone is a monk who wears a hood.’ After all, when Agatha says Johnathan about priests who always survive, she speaks not only about one particular priest but about all of them. Including that priestess who sits in front of Harker.
Not only is Agatha not perfect, she`s clear from the start that she`s interested in dark forces, and she clearly has a checkered past. She enjoys communicating with Dracula and does not hide it. She does not purse her lips and does not pretend that she is unpleasant about one or another of his actions – if she is unpleasant, then she is unpleasant, and she speaks about it openly. Agatha does not try to behave ‘decently’. She doesn`t care about decorum.
Agatha lies to herself, but this is the lie of an adult who has been burned many times by her own ugly truth.
And what about Chloe? Nothing. Sweet, smart, right, with a hairstyle that makes her eyes pop out of her head, she walks back and forth with a gun and, living in Los Angeles and being a police officer and a former actress who starred in a movie with nude scenes, she is horrified that... the nightclub owner picked up the cigarette at the crime scene?
Don`t get me wrong. I love the beauty and the beast trope. I don`t like it being turned into a straight-A student/bad-boy relationship. Moreover, if the student has not read anything except the textbook and is mainly concerned with ensuring that no one thinks that she likes the bad guy. It`s disgusting.
I don`t know how they planned to build the plot in Lucifer and who came up with the love line itself. But this is clearly its weak point. Everything else in the first three seasons is just great. All the characters, without exception, are good. The way they communicate and work together is amazing. The way the divine beings settle down on earth and try to find themselves is brilliant. The world of the series itself, its internal state, atmosphere, are beautiful. Everything in it is in its place and everything is where it should be. Except Chloe. And that`s the problem.
I don`t know why this happened. I assume that because the authors could not decide on the genre and audience of the series. On the one hand, the theme and genre seem to be teenage – a comic book about the devil who ‘lights up’ Los Angeles. On the other hand, a story about a hero who goes on a journey in search of himself (and this is what lies at the heart of the plot) is not a teenage one. Teenagers are not searching for themselves. Teenagers trying to fit in. These are different things. And the discord is completed by the choice of actors for the main roles and the age category of most of the characters – over forty. If all this happened, roughly speaking, with heroes Bella Swan`s age and in a high school setting, then everything would be fine. And Chloe`s mental turmoil would not look idiotic, but consistent with the age and psychological norm.
It hurts. Really. Because there are several moments in the series that are incredibly beautiful and valuable regardless of everything else. The main character`s journey to himself, his sad and funny attempts to get rid of his father and his unwillingness to see how much he loves his father and depends on him and his opinion of himself, his devotion to his friends, their connection that exists despite everything and radiates light. The way the hero reveals his face is one of the most intimate scenes I have ever seen, and also that how he protects his beloved. This is wonderful.
But at the same time, the story, after dozens and dozens of episodes, came down to whether the heroes would sleep together. That`s not how it`s done. Perhaps I don`t understand something and perhaps my opinion will change over time, but now everything in me is protesting. I want an adult story to remain an adult story. Do I want too much?
Or maybe Steven Moffat just spoiled me.

quick write-up on Q by Diao Ye Zong after a full listen of the album + the bonus content
Tumblr media
(spoilers: it's really good. buy it)
I've skipped some of DYZ's releases in the last few years like Shirushi/Mukui/Atsume out of lack of interest, so it's very possible that I missed a hidden gem, but anyway I think Q is their best recent work. It's as good as Hohuri or △ imo (and Hohuri is like. my favorite DYZ and favorite doujin music album overall so.)
Agatha ChrisQ suddenly and completely disappears, shrouded in as much mystery as when she started releasing novels. The narrator sets out in search of the truth through 6 of ChrisQ's unpublished murder mysteries, each a reflection of their writer's feelings.
Q is a seed // Q is an outcome - Waiting to germinate into fantasy // Imposing the results of your ego on all.
It is, of course, a must-listen (or must-experience, rather, since it's not limited to music) for any Akyuu fan, but I'd also recommend it to fans of DiPP, Umineko specifically but mystery novels in general, and interactive fiction (there's branching endings). Oh and yuri. Akyuu/Kosuzu has been a fairly recurring pair in DYZ works (I can think of at least 5 songs off the top of my head, that's recurring to me lol) and this is no exception.
The album is gorgeous, jewel case and booklet and everything, all B&W with beautiful arabesques and elegant lettering and the occasional lines written in red. Hanadahyou's art is even more gorgeous than usual in the lyrics booklet (and if you've ever looked at a DYZ album you know the booklet is part of the experience)!! I love the small detail of the page with Akyuu's portrait, not the one with ChrisQ's, touching the page with the picture of Kosuzu and Akyuu as children...
The tracks are very good, pleasant to listen to from beginning to end (in my case there's just one I have a problem with because of the singer's voice... T_T lol). If I had to pick just one it'd be the Kosuzu song, Imaginary Friend (spoilers in the translator's notes), obviously everything in it makes me want to cry and scream and bash my head into a wall but ESPECIALLY the line where 'it was love at first sight' and 'I set upon you all my fantasies' are both said at the same time in the most beautiful wordplay I've seen in a while.. I also really like the Hieda servants' song (Murasaki Hotaru's voice <3) and the Reimu song is super fun (there is no way Reimu holding a knife next to Marisa's body in the booklet art isn't a nod to the reimari songs from Hohuri - and with the Birlstone Gambit theory referenced in the song itself, well...). But even then all the other tracks are interesting too. Very solid album.
And then there's the secret bonus content. I will only say that I love both choices very much but Imaginary Friend -> My Beloved Q did permanent damage to my heart <3 <3 <3 (suffering
ANYWAY, if any of this sounded intriguing to you then Q is absolutely worth the money! So go support the artists!! The regular version without the secret content will probably end up for free on spotify at some point, but in my humble opinion it's one of those DYZ albums that are 1000% better if experienced with a real hardcopy of the CD because of how high-quality the product is, the gorgeous art, the bonus content etc... Personally I am never getting rid of my copy it's just SO beautiful.

As a casual Agatha Christie fan, I am delighted by that recommendation. Do you have any other favorite books from her?
Sure!
And Then There Were None Ten people go to an island, it does not go well. This one stands out in that it has a good adaptation!
Appointment with Death The murder is ingenius and all in this one, but what I particularly enjoy is how well Christie captures the power an abusive mother can have over her adult children, it's a dynamic you don't often see in fiction (at least not played out this way).
Cards on the Table M. Shaitana has a fantastic idea: he's going to invite four murderers and four law enforcers to his house for a night of bridge, and he's going to stir up as much drama as possible. Things do not go well for M. Shaitana. (Stay miles away from the Suchet adaptation)
Crooked House The patriarch of an affluent family dies, and his twelve-year-old granddaughter decides to investigate. I was the same age when I first read it, which made the ending uh interesting.
Curtain Poirot finds the perfect murderer.
Death on the Nile Makes the list for many reasons, it's such a classical Christie but also because nobody agrees with Jackie's life choices, not even Jackie.
Hallowe'en Party A child claims to have witnessed a murder, no one believes her. A few hours later she's found murdered. I mostly like this one for the utterly insane murderer. What a champ.
Murder on the Orient Express There's a murder on the Orient Express. (If you want a film version, the 1974 version is the best. Suchet's version is... melodramatic, I don't like its ending but it had a fantastic opening scene, while the Branagh version is an atrocity, do not watch.)
Ordeal by Innocence Five years ago Arthur Calgary nerded about penguins to some random guy then left for Antarctica the next day. It was great. Now he returns to England only to find that the man was Jacob Argyle, and he was accused of murdering his mother that night. He kept claiming his alibi was some penguin guy and could give very specific, identifying details that five years later make Arthur Calgary "yup, that's me!", but Calgary was in Antarctica at the time so he never came forward. And uh Jacob died in prison in the meantime. But, Calgary tells himself, the important thing is that Jacob was innocent, right? Right? The Argyle family, who had finally put this behind them only to learn that their brother was innocent and one of the remaining members did it, don't agree.
Sad Cypress Elinor Carlisle is sad. She's about to hang for a double homicide she might not have committed, but even without that she'd still be pretty miserable.
The Secret Adversary I felt I had to recommend a Tommy and Tuppence, and while I don't remember much of any of them I'll just recommend the first one in the series. Tommy and Tuppence books are more political thriller than the usual fare, great fun if you want to switch things up during your Christie binge. (Do not touch ITV's By the Pricking of My Thumbs, though.)
The Mirror Crack'd One of my all-time favorites and weirdly formative. Miss Marple is grappling with the realities of old age, and solves a murder along the way. It's more character heavy than many of Christie's books, people do the things they do because it is in their nature and they can't escape it.
The Mysterious Affair at Styles The very first one! It makes the list for that. And because if you plan to read Curtain, you should read this one first as it references this one a lot.
Towards Zero Following the logic that the murder isn't the beginning of the story, but rather the culmination of one, this story is building towards the zero point - the moment the murder will occur.
Honestly, anon, I'm just listing Christies I fondly remember, I can keep going but the post will just get unreasonably long. Go read Agatha Christie, she's great.
Hercule Poirot's Christmas and A Pocketful of Rye get special shoutouts because while I haven't read the books, the ITV adaptations were really good, the former particularly with the casting and the latter particularly with the way the reveal was done. Same goes for One, Two, Buckle My Shoe, haven't read it but the adaptation was great.
(Overall I'm ambivalent about ITV's adaptations, the Poirot series wanted to be a fairly light, feelgood show the whole family could watch after dinner, and while both series liked to change things from the books and overall make them more daytime television, the Miss Marple series changed a lot more than the Poirot series did. They both have a nasty habit of putting Poirot and Marple in stories they weren't originally, usually to the story's detriment (passive aggressive shoutout to By the Pricking of My Thumbs). It's annoying, though does make it hilarious that they couldn't put Poirot in Crooked House.
They're still entertaining and I don't turn off the TV when an episode is on unless it's one of the bad ones, but... well it's daytime television-ified Christie.)

Review: The Vanishing at Castle Moreau
Synopsis: In 1865, orphaned Daisy Francois takes a position as housemaid at a midwestern Wisconsin castle and finds that the reclusive and eccentric Gothic authoress inside hides more than the harrowing tales in her novels. With women disappearing from the area and a legend that seems to parallel these eerie circumstances, Daisy is thrust into a web that may threaten to steal her sanity, if not…

A dinner party occurs at a mansion on a snowy winter’s night, with an unusual selection of guests. The gunslinger, his businessman husband, the prodigy doctor, the musician, the french ballerina, the bright-eyed scientist, the jubilant war hero, and the daughter of a legend. By the end of the night, one is dead, and their lives are revealed to connect in impossible ways.

Okay, let's try this again - if you can fan cast the book you imprinted on like a baby duckling when you were 12/13, the book that formed your adult personality whether you like to admit it or not - what book (series) is it? And who are you casting?
This question forces me to reckon with what I was reading at 12/13 which was kinda weird, ngl. Maybe that's why I'm kinda weird. 😂 Mostly I read a lot of shitty horror novels (Dean Koontz), some Agatha Christie I barely remember now, salacious historical fiction (there was a novel called Pocahontas that I think I read multiple times), and god knows what else. Oh, Jurassic Park and Jaws, probably. Also your answer to a question about childhood books reminded me about reading The Mists of Avalon, which was probably about that time too?
I'm gonna be real I barely remember any of the characters from these books except for the ones that already have movies like Jurassic Park, for which I can only see those actors in the roles. I think I was just far too voracious a reader—I had a habit of tearing through books at lightning speed and I never really formed any attachments to any one book or series. So I am punting on the fancast question, SORRY, but I did answer the other part at least. 😅

Eddie Munson Bookworm Headcanon
Tumblr media
Summary - Just a headcanon about my new favorite bookworm Eddie Munson and his books
A/N - Yes he is a bookworm I refuse to accept anything else
Masterlist - Taglist - Requests are open
Tumblr media
Eddie Munson is a massive bookworm, you cannot change my mind about this
You do not play dungeons and dragons and quote lord of the rings if you aren't a massive book nerd
Especially when he was younger Eddie would get most of his books second hand, as books are quite expensive
And also, he is not one to care about the condition of a book as long as it is readable
"Books are meant to be enjoyed and read! So why does it matter what it looks like?"
That is his philosophy about it
His books go through some proper wear and tear, as well as their fair share of abuse
Eddie does not own a single bookmark, anything and everything is a bookmark in his opinion
Random pieces of paper, receipts, a necklace, leaves, a ruler, random piece of string? Bookmark
The man also dog ears his books with absolutely no sense of conscience about it
If he cannot find something to work as a makeshift bookmark, he will just fold over that page
He also cracks the spines of his books; it does not matter to him what the condition of his books are in
A couple of them most definitely have some water damage to them
And covers are ripped, scratched, torn
While Eddie has a bookshelf, it is tiny and only holds a couple
The rest of his books are stacked on the floor in various piles
He doesn't own a ton of books, but he is very proud of the collection he does have
Eddie does not own collectors’ editions of books, they are too expensive and do not serve a greater purpose than the original
Because he got so many of his first books second hand through thrift stores or garage sales, he has read a lot of very different books
But he does have his favourite genera that he will always gravitate towards
Mainly being fantasy, science fiction and classical horrors or thrillers
An obvious is The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings
The Hobbit was absolutely the first book that made Eddie totally fall in love with fantasy as a genera and concept
Which of course was followed up by The Lord of the Rings
And even the Silmarillion
Eddie is a massive Tolkien fan
He has begrudgingly read all the books mandated by his high school English classes, and while he would never admit it out loud, he loved reading Jane Austen
Particularly he really enjoyed Pride and Prejudice, it has enough drama and flair while being well written enough that Eddie found it to be a good read
He had read at least the first five Dune books
When he was younger, he absolutely adored all of the Sherlock Holmes books and the mystery genera has a very special place in his heart because of it
When he was in his mystery book phase, he absolutely read his fair share of Agatha Christie books
He really enjoys a big fantastical and well thought out world that he can simply just lose himself to for hours
Something he can draw inspiration from for campaigns or for his own personal writing
Because Eddie Munson is absolutely an aspiring writer, he already has a lot of practice writing songs
And there are countless overstuffed notebooks filled to the absolute brim with notes of fantasy worlds and random sketches strewn about his room
He isn't picky when it comes to fantasy, anything to tidy him over for a couple of hours
Eddie does prefer the vaster high fantasy settings, but also greatly enjoys comic fantasy and he has a stack of Discworld books gathering in his room
However, Eddie can also appreciate the more classic literature books such as the Bronte sisters
But also, the classical nerdy books, Dracula, Frankenstein, Carmilla
His type of comedy books is quite specific, but he did absolutely love The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy
Eddie owns a library card, it is always in his wallet and it has been used a lot throughout the years
The problem is that he just forgets to return his books
And he enjoys being able to scribble in the margins of his books
Or highlight his favourite passages
In conclusion, Eddie Munson is a bookworm and I love him <3

My 18 yo offers up the following prompt to the Shadow and Bone fan fiction writing community:
“Knives Out x Shadow and Bone crossover: Benoit Blanc comes to the Little Palace and has to solve an Agatha Christie-like mystery. He’s not a Grisha though, he’s just Benoit Blanc.”

Hello
I'm Vilandel and while I've known Tumblr before, I'm still pretty new to it. After some thinking and talking with @kalolasfantasyworld on AO3, plus after seeing that the Black Clover fandom is wonderfully chill and wholesome here, I've decided to also make my blog here. I hope I'll be able to interact with the wonderful people out here and exchange, sharing our love for Black Clover. I'm also very eager to meet new writers and fanartist 💘
As it wasn't really obvious, I'm a big fan of Black Clover. It is my favorite anime and manga, even though I also love other series and not only anime/mangas. In fact, I was a fic writer before I even went into Black Clover (for Fairy Tail, Seven Deadly Sins and My Hero Academia). But it is with Black Clover that I started to write for the first time in English (I'm Swiss and I mostly wrote in German or French before). I'm mostly on AO3, you can find me here.
I will steadily post my Black Clover fanfics on Tumblr too, be it those I've already wrote or those I'll write in the future. I will also post my Black Clover OCs from time to time, which will appear in my stories, some more than others, and probably random Black Clover headcanons from time to time. Since I'm new here, I still trying out with this blog.
I don't know if I'll do writing request for now, but you are free to also just ask and talk. Not only about Black Clover (even though it's the main reason why I'm here), but also about other things. Here are the piece of fiction I love:
Black Clover Fairy Tail Seven Deadly Sins My Hero Academia Assassination Classroom Bleach One Piece Fullmetal Alchemist Adventures of Tintin The Lord of the Rings Works of Jane Austen Works of Agatha Christie Works of Jules Verne
(certainly more, I will add them over time^^')
Being on Tumblr is a new territory for me to explore, I'm still a bit shy for now. But I'm very excited as well.
Greetings, Vilandel
