You were growing tired of witnessing Chad and Tara practically devour each other with their eyes. Both of them refusing to acknowledge their obvious attraction to each other made you want to scream, and you were relieved not to be alone in this. Mindy had rolled her eyes so often that you were sure her head would start hurting soon. She sighed loudly once more as Chad and Tara chatted in the kitchen.
"Will you two just make out already?" Mindy exclaimed.
You held back a giggle at your friend's comment. Chad turned to glare at his sister, tossing one of the Cheetos from the bag he was holding at her face. Mindy turned around, her voice tinged with annoyance.
"Hey, watch it!"
Chad smirked, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "Oh, I'm sorry, Mindy. I forgot that Cheetos are sacred artifacts in your eyes." Mindy stuck her tongue out at him, but he didn't notice because, once again, his attention was on Tara. As the lovebirds continued to prepare dinner, or attempt to, Mindy plopped down next to you on the couch, resting her head on your shoulder.
"They're so annoying, aren't they?"
"So annoying," you agreed. "I mean, it's so obvious they like each other. God, I've never met someone as oblivious as them."
Mindy nodded in agreement, her voice tinged with exasperation. "I know, right? It's like they're playing this never-ending game of cat and mouse, and we're stuck here watching it unfold. How can they be so blind to their own feelings?"
You sighed, glancing towards Chad and Tara, who were now engaged in a playful argument over the recipe. "I wish they would just confront their feelings and get it over with. It's painful to watch them dance around each other like this."
Mindy tilted her head, a mischievous glint in her eyes. "Well, maybe it's time we take matters into our own hands." You raised an eyebrow, intrigued by her suggestion. "What do you have in mind?"
She sat up straight and motioned for you to lean in. As you did, her breath tickled your ear as she whispered, "Let's play matchmakers and give them a little push in the right direction." You couldn't help but grin at Mindy's mischievous plan. The idea of intervening in Chad and Tara's love life seemed both thrilling and risky, but at this point, it was worth a shot.
Mindy leaned back, her eyes glimmering with excitement. "We could start by setting up a casual hangout for all of us, maybe a movie night or some kind of dinner. Then we pretend we have an assignment or something and leave them by themselves. You know, like in the romcoms you like."
"They won't get mad?"
"Duh, they will. But they'll thank us later on. Trust me," she assured, giving your shoulder a pat before sitting up on her knees to get your friends' attention. "We should all go to the movies this week; I hear there are some good movies coming out."
Chad and Tara turned around, giving Mindy a strange look due to her enthusiasm for the hangout plan. "Yeah, I heard that too," you chimed in. "It'll be fun to have a movie night together, don't you think? We can catch up on the latest ones and just relax for a bit." You tried to sound nonchalant, but inside, you were bubbling with anticipation.
Chad and Tara exchanged glances, seemingly contemplating the idea. Chad shrugged, a playful smile forming on his face. "Sure, why not? It's been a while since I've been to the movies." Tara nodded in agreement, her eyes meeting Chad's for a moment before she turned to Mindy and you. "Sounds like a plan, then."
Mindy and you exchanged excited glances, hardly able to contain your anticipation. The pieces were falling into place, and soon, you would set your plan in motion. So, when Tara gave you both a suspicious look, you both tried to pretend you weren't grinning so hard your faces were starting to hurt.
"So, what movie are we watching again?" Chad asked, walking next to Tara while Mindy and you led the way around the movie theatre.
"Uh… the one with the knife," you said, pointing at the huge poster with the bloodied weapon on it. "I thought you hated those."
"Well, yeah! But this one isn't as scary, right?" Tara tilted her head in confusion.
"Well, I'm pretty sure Chad thinks we're in a Chad-Tara situation," Mindy explained, her tone filled with amusement. "But I've told him so many times that he needs to let it go. I mean, we're just friends, right?"
"Right," your voice cracked a bit, and you quickly recovered by coughing and rubbing your throat, pretending it was itchy. Mindy glanced at you, a knowing smile playing on her lips. She could sense your sudden unease and decided to change the subject, not wanting to make you uncomfortable. "Anyway, let's focus on the mission at hand," she said, her voice filled with determination. "We're doing this for Chad and Tara, remember?"
You nodded, grateful for the shift in conversation. "Absolutely. We want them to be happy, and if this little plan of ours helps them realize their feelings, then it'll all be worth it."
As the two of you continued to wait outside the theater, the minutes stretched on, and you couldn't help but feel a mix of excitement for the plan and disappointment from Mindy's words. Just as doubt began to creep into your mind, the theater doors swung open, and Chad and Tara emerged, their expressions a mix of surprise and amusement. They approached you and Mindy, their eyes shining with something you couldn't quite decipher.
Chad was the first to break the silence, a mischievous grin on his face. "Well, well, well, what do we have here?" he said, his voice filled with playful accusation. "Caught in the act, huh?" Tara nudged him lightly, her cheeks tinged with a faint blush.
"Chad!" she said, her tone a mixture of amusement and embarrassment.
As the four of you made your way back to the car, Chad wrapped an arm around your shoulder, slightly pushing you behind so Mindy and Tara walked in front of you. "What's wrong?" his question caught you off guard, and you glanced up at him, feeling uncertain. "What do you mean?" you asked, trying to sound casual despite the rapid beating of your heart.
Chad chuckled, his playful tone betraying a hint of curiosity. "Come on, don't think I didn't notice you and Mindy. You guys were standing awfully close out there." He raised an eyebrow, his gaze locked on you. "And don't act like your crush on her isn't painfully obvious."
You held up your hands innocently. "Who, us? Never." Mindy joined in, her expression matching yours. "Just enjoy the movie, you two. It's going to be great."
With a final exchange of playful glances, Chad and Tara settled into their separate seats, and the lights dimmed as the movie was about to begin. Mind
y leaned over to you, whispering in a hushed tone, "Phase one complete."
You couldn't help but feel a mix of nervousness and excitement. The plan was set in motion, and now it was a waiting game. You stole a glance at Chad and Tara, observing them from the corner of your eye. Despite their physical separation, there was a subtle tension in the air, a shared anticipation that lingered between them.
Mindy was paying attention to the movie, being the horror-lover she was. She didn't notice it when Chad turned around to look at both of you and gave you a thumbs-up. Does he think they're setting us up? You couldn't help but wonder. But you decided to play along, returning the thumbs-up with a sly smile. Letting Chad think that they were the ones orchestrating something. Little did he know that you and Mindy had a plan of your own.
As the plot unfolded on the screen, you couldn't help but notice Chad occasionally sneaking glances in Tara's direction, while she seemed equally aware of his presence. It was as if they were drawn to each other, unable to resist the magnetic pull.
During a particularly suspenseful moment in the movie, Mindy leaned over to you and whispered, "Phase two begins now." You turned to her, curiosity piqued, eager to know what she had planned.
She motioned for you to follow her lead. You pretended to look towards your friends, but you stayed quiet, thinking about how close Mindy had gotten. She didn't seem to notice your nervous state and continued with her plan.
With a mischievous smile, Mindy pulled out her phone and sent a text message to both Chad and Tara simultaneously. 'I left something important in my car. Y/n and I are going to grab it quickly. BRB!'
You and Mindy stood up, trying your best to be inconspicuous as you made your way toward the theater exit. Chad and Tara glanced at each other, confusion evident on their faces, but they nodded in acknowledgment. Mindy winked at you before you both disappeared out the door.
Once outside the theater, Mindy couldn't contain her excitement any longer. She grabbed your arm, her eyes gleaming with anticipation. "Now, we wait and see what happens," she said, her voice filled with a mix of excitement and mischief.
As you stood there, leaning against the wall near the theater entrance, your heart raced with anticipation. You couldn't help but feel a pang of nervousness, unsure of how Chad and Tara would react to being left alone together. What if it backfired?
Minutes ticked by slowly, and you wrapped your thin jacket around yourself to ward off the cold. Mindy leaned on the wall next to you, the popcorn holder still in her hands. "So, do you think our little plan will work?" you asked Mindy, unable to hide the slight tremor in your voice.
Mindy glanced at you before taking a handful of popcorn. "Absolutely. I have a feeling that this is exactly what they need. Sometimes a little push is all it takes for people to realize their true feelings." She nodded, and you both exchanged determined glances.
It was silent for a bit as Mindy chewed on the popcorn, and you craved to step closer to her for a bit of warmth, or maybe just to feel her close. "They probably think we're making out right now," Mindy said with a laugh, and you felt your cheeks heat up.
You chuckled, trying to hide your blush. "Well, they're in for a surprise when they realize we're just standing here freezing and talking about their love lives," you replied, your voice laced with amusement.
Mindy nodded with a smile, eating another handful of popcorn. You cleared your throat. "Why… why would they think we're making out?"
"Well, I'm pretty sure Chad thinks we're in a Chad-Tara situation," Mindy explained, her tone filled with amusement. "But I've told him so many times that he needs to let it go. I mean, we're just friends, right?" Mindy's words caught you off guard, and you felt a mix of confusion and disappointment. You had hoped she would see through the act and understand your true feelings.
You huffed out a laugh, trying to hide your disappointment. "Well, they're in for a surprise, indeed."
As you reached the car, Mindy and Tara got into the backseat, leaving you and Chad standing by the door. Chad leaned against the car, his eyes fixed on you. "Y/n, life's too short to let fear hold you back. Take a chance on this, even if it's scary. You never know what might happen."
You huffed out a laugh. "You're one to talk."
"I'm working on it," he said, rolling his eyes. "But my sister definitely has a thing for you too. Trust me."
You sighed, shaking your head before glancing down at the almost empty water bottle in your hands. "She doesn't."
"Oh, she so does."
"She just told me we're just friends, so not really." Chad chuckled, his eyes twinkling with amusement. "Y/n, you have to understand that sometimes people say one thing but mean another. Trust me, I know my sister better than anyone, and I can tell she's got feelings for you. Maybe she's just afraid to admit it or doesn't want to risk the friendship either."
His words stirred a glimmer of hope within you, and you couldn't help but ponder the possibility. "You really think so?" you asked, your voice laced with a mix of uncertainty and longing.
Chad nodded, his smile encouraging. "Absolutely. I've seen the way she looks at you when she thinks no one's watching, the way she lights up when you're around. It's hard to miss. Sometimes people need a little push to confront their feelings, just like what we're doing for them."
"I don't know, I don't want to push it."
As you reached the car, Mindy leaned closer to you, her voice soft. "Hey, everything alright?" You nodded, before thinking of how to change the subject, feeling guilty for getting so much attention at once. "Do you think it worked?" you whispered back, moving your head towards a driving Chad and a rambling Tara.
"I think we need to think of a phase three," she pointed to her phone, giving you a small, knowing smirk as the two friends in the front seats remained oblivious to the conversation. Mindy typed her idea on the notes app, moving the phone so you could read the screen as she typed.
The screen read, 'Phase three: dinner operation.' You raised an eyebrow, intrigued by Mindy's idea. She continued typing, her fingers moving swiftly across the screen. 'We take them on a spontaneous dinner. A cozy place, and one of us has to get sick. They won't suspect a thing since we're roommates. It's the perfect setting.'
You nodded in agreement, silently conveying your enthusiasm for phase three. As Mindy finished typing, she turned her attention back to you, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "What do you think?"
You glanced at Chad and Tara, their voices blending into a pleasant background noise as they continued their lively conversation, Chad's music playing in the back. With a
nod, you whispered back, "Let's do it."
Mindy's face lit up with a wide grin, and she leaned even closer, her voice barely above a whisper. "We can do it tomorrow, just the four of us. And who knows? Maybe, just maybe, my stupid brother will confess."
You nodded, your heart swelling with anticipation. Mindy's plans always had a touch of magic to them, and you couldn't wait to see what would unfold during that dinner. The car continued to move, the hum of the engine lulling you into a state of calm excitement.
As the car got closer to your respective apartments, you stole glances at Mindy, her eyes fixed on the road ahead, her mind brimming with possibilities. You couldn't help but feel a deep appreciation for her, her unwavering support, and her ability to create moments of joy and connection. The thought crossed your mind that you craved so badly for there to be something more between the two of you.
Lost in your thoughts, you almost missed Mindy's soft voice as she spoke again, her words barely audible over the sound of the car stopping. "Y/n, it's our stop."
A warmth spread through your chest, and you turned to her with a gentle smile. "Right, sorry." The anticipation for the upcoming dinner and phase three of your plan hung in the air, and you couldn't help but feel a mix of excitement and nervousness.
As you entered your apartment, you couldn't shake the thought of Mindy's words and the way she had leaned closer to you during the car ride. There was an unspoken connection between the two of you, a bond that seemed to grow stronger with each passing day. But the fear of risking your friendship held you back, and you wondered if it was worth taking that leap.
Mindy sat down on the couch next to you, covering herself up with a blanket and glancing at you before moving it slightly so you could fit under it as well. "So, what happened with Chad?"
"Huh? It's nothing, don't worry about it."
"You have been awfully quiet in the car; I'm sure it was something," she said, turning her torso so she was facing you. "You always tell me everything; what's wrong?" You could hear the slight panic in her voice. Chad was never the one you confided in; it was her.
At your silence, Mindy sighed and stayed quiet too, thinking to herself. You opened your mouth, remembering Chad's advice from before, but closed it again once you realized you didn't know what to say. "I have…" you started, Mindy turned to look at you, attentive. "I have feelings for, uhm."
Mindy's face dropped a little at the thought of you liking somebody else, but she stayed quiet, waiting for you to finish your sentence. You, on the other hand, felt like your face was about to explode, your cheeks couldn't get any hotter, and you were just stammering out 'uhms' and 'uhhs' while Mindy raised her brows at you, awaiting.
"I have feelings for you, like… the romantic kind."
Silence.
Mindy's lack of words made you want to curl up and cry the second your confession left your mouth. "And you told my brother before you told me? You know Chad sucks with relationship advice," you furrowed your brows, wondering why she was acting like you hadn't just confessed your feelings.
"I do too, by the way. I thought it was obvious," she said after a beat of silence. "Tara tried to set us up together today at the movies."
"So did Chad," you chuckled, feeling much calmer now that you knew for sure that your feelings were reciprocated. But the second Mindy licked her lips, your heartbeat picked up again at how attractive she looked, staring down at your own lips.
Not saying a word, she reached for the back of your neck, toying with a hair strand before pulling you forward. With a hint of hesitation, you reached out and gently cupped Mindy's cheek, your fingers grazing her soft skin. She leaned into your touch, her breath hitching ever so slightly.
You could feel the warmth of her body drawing closer, and your heart pounded in your chest. Mindy's hand moved to rest on your waist, pulling you closer, closing the distance between you. The blanket started tangling between both of your legs, and the world around you blurred as your focus narrowed solely on her.
In a hushed whisper, you could hear the catch in her voice as she murmured your name, like a sweet melody that resonated in your ears. "Y/n."
The moment your lips met, you felt like you were on fire. Mindy's lips were soft and inviting, melding perfectly with yours. As the kiss deepened, the world outside seemed to shut down. There was only the two of you, locked in an embrace that spoke volumes of unspoken emotions and ages of pining after one another. Your bodies pressed closer, as if trying to merge into one.
Eventually, the need for air forced you to reluctantly part, but the warmth of the moment lingered on your lips. Mindy's eyes fluttered open, and a dazzling smile graced her face, mirroring the joy and contentment that radiated inside of you.
Chad and Tara's plan might have worked too well. Now you had to make sure to beat them at their matchmaking tactics.

What I love about Miles' outburst on Adrian, is that Phoenix afterwards points out that it's not like him at all, like it's not his usual rudeness at court. And Miles using the exact same phrasing with her, abt choosing death, which is also uhh, points out to their similarities
Thank you for answering!
I also wanted to ask you what you think about Phoenix's life before the events of the game? I mean even before Dahlia, how lonely he should've been to always care abt and then chase after this one guy who stood up for him in 4th grade? Where his first motivation (to save Miles) coming from, I think this question is a bit unexplored in the fandom, besides the idea that Phoenix is just that altruistic and kind person. I mean he is kind, but there's gotta be roots in his childhood maybe
Oooh good point; I hadn't thought about that! Lmao Miles "I faked my death and came back After Winning Mental Health Because I Attended A Single Therapy Session" just saying the most unhinged things sir please. Also, you're right that it does feel a lot more personal than most of his other outbursts b/c of the language mirroring his own note...ough man is not okay during that whole trial huh...
Haha I think Phoenix's life before the games was completely unremarkable? I'm p sure the creators at some point said something to that effect and tbh I think it's the best interpretation for him. Because it would make more sense if he had some sort of trauma/big event but nope he's just Like That. Man is just Deranged and it's so funny honestly love that for him.
Also I love the idea of him being A Normal Guy through childhood - law school. He had a decent social circle and keeps moderately in touch with his friends after graduation through text/group chats. His law school/college group chats aren't really active but the people in it will text each other once every few months or whenever something big happens to someone. It's low-key and normal and all his friends are like yeah Phoenix. He's just a Nice Guy.
Then ofc one day he's all over the news for fucking CX'ing a bird in court and publicly exposing one of the top prosecutors in the district. All his friends are stunned. They start following his legal career and they're all slowly coming to the same conclusion that Phoenix was Actually That Crazy the entire time. And the worst part about all of this is, looking back, they're also realizing that there were definitely hints. For example, in law school he was a p mediocre student except when he Aggressively Wasn't and would just seemingly wander off and book a class. Or in college there was that time he got REALLY into that girl and then disappeared for a weekish and never mentioned her again. (His college friends thought it was a rocky break up. They are now realizing it was b/c he was on trial for murder what the fuck Phoenix.) Or in high school he got weirdly into Legally Blonde but everyone just thought he was being a theater kid and was excited that the musical had come out. But Phoenix always seemed like such a normal guy that none of his friends thought that deeply about it and now they are and well fuck.
So they DM him in their group chats and his response is completely normal too. Phoenix sees nothing weird about what he's been doing oh and how are the children Susie? He's perfectly friendly, just like they remember, and seems to think nothing of how off the rails his legal career's gone. That's when everyone finally acknowledges he is really the craziest person they know (and maybe make a separate GC to discuss What The Fuck Is Phoenix Doing Now).
Hope that made sense! I do like thinking about how "normal" Phoenix was for years - it makes the unhinged shit he does later so much funnier and I think really fits with his character? And thanks for all the asks (also sorry it takes me so long to get to these; I've just been kinda busy)!! Lmao love any opportunity to talk about how Unwell Phoenix actually is. <3

How terrifying it would be if assuming Toriel is a party member and be focus of next weird route is manipulating her with gaslighting her to love Asgore again and forced her to be with him again as like seemingly typical picturesque husband and wife together?
First, I'd like to preface this by saying the Weird Route is kinda, as the name implies, weird. It doesn't really change all that much in the grand scheme of the story. Snowgrave still follows all the major beats of Pacifist, just removing several scenes and fights, and no one outside Noelle really acknowledges what happens-- and even she thinks it's a dream at first. So I don't know if a Weird Route really would force Toriel and Asgore together, as that feels like it'd be something that that people in Hometown may notice and remark upon. It's mostly a concept that I presently think would be REALLY fun to explore and consider, and one I think fits the ways the Weird Route is disturbing, without making it repetitive and wearing off the shock and horror. I also think that this kind of Weird Route would probably take place mostly in the Light World, further setting it apart from Snowgrave.
Also to be clear, this is my further thoughts on a post I reblogged from @honeybouquets
That said, without further ado...
Oh, it'd be pretty terrifying, and it'd also be pretty disturbing in a way similar to the Snowgrave route-- albeit in a very different way. I think it'd be pretty interesting to explore in Deltarune specifically, too.
Deltarune is already a 'typical picturesque small town' that seems off to the majority of the fanbase. Things seem happy initially, it seems like everything the Undertale fanbase has been dreaming of for years. Monsters are on the surface! No more war! Everyone is alive! ASRIEL is alive, and was never Flowey!
But then people began seeing things in the town that brought on senses that something is... off. Now, honestly, most of these things aren't all that insidious, they're basically just the results of a different world where things played out differently, or tragic but mundane things that just tend to happen in life. Despite being populated by monsters, Hometown is INCREDIBLY mundane, to contrast the excitement and adventure of the Dark World, but also likely to contrast the fantastical nature of Undertale.
Hometown is unnerving because it gives those who played Undertale everything they think they wanted for the characters... and the characters still aren't living perfect lives. Which is realistic, but also disappointing, when coming from a game like Undertale where you can fix everyone's problems if you're just kind enough.
Sometimes, people just fall out of love, like Asgore and Toriel. Sometimes, parents fall ill or don't make you feel safe and loved, like Rudy and his wife. Sometimes people die and there is no miracle cure, like the Amalgamates and Gerson. Sometimes a trans person doesn't have the resources, money, or support to safely transition and it leads to dysphoria and depression, like Mettaton.
I think that a weird route like this would continue along the lines of, giving the players what they THINK they want, and then showing how it still wouldn't be a very good thing. I'm of the opinion that Asgore deserves happiness, but his clinging onto the past isn't very good for him, and Toriel shouldn't be responsible for giving him happiness, as she's also got things to heal from. Intentionally or no, Asgore has hurt her, and she wants space. It's good for them to forgive and move on, and for her to let go of her grudge, but not try to regain what they had, because that's gone for good. A lot of Post-Pacifist Asgoriel AUs that I've seen, I feel like they kinda... brush over all the troubles those two have had and skip straight to happy fluff. Which is fine, I'm sure a lot of the shippers just want to see two characters they love happy. But seeing Toriel's desire to have her space not really addressed rubs me the wrong way, being someone who has no interest in a relationship, albeit for different reasons.
But taking that scenario that people want, making them 'kiss and make up' so to speak, because SURELY it would make them happy... as a horror and angst fan, it's a weird route I'd find really interesting, exploring how fucked up it is to do this to Toriel, the one who wants this divorce the most, and telling her 'no, it's okay, Asgore is a really good guy, he's so sweet and you're making him miserable', and show a realistic outcome. No matter how 'cute' you think a couple may be, if they're not happy together then just loving each other enough won't solve their problems. Life is complicated.
It might also be interesting in that it may, to an extent, also gaslight Kris themself while we use them to manipulate Toriel. Kris pretty clearly doesn't want to use Noelle as a weapon, but this isn't the same. This isn't turning Toriel into a killing machine. We don't know Kris' full opinions on the divorce, but even without the Player as a factor, being a kid whose parents are divorced is probably a situation that would make them feel really helpless, especially knowing they don't like thinking about whatever got Asgore kicked off the police, and what poor conditions he's living in now.
Perhaps in this route, if Kris is more on guard after what happened to Noelle, we'll be able to get around that by appealing to their desire for a happy family, or by helping Asgore out of his bad situation, or by making a more appealing situation for Asriel to come home to. Slowly corrupting Kris, not through killing but through tempting them with the happy life they want, and all they have to give up is their freedom, could be a really interesting foil to what we do to Chara in the No Mercy run, or a much darker take on us guiding Frisk in the Pacifist run.
All that said... I do think it possible some future chapters in Deltarune, including chapter 3, COULD involve more plot-stuff happening in the Light World. Alphys mentions no school, meaning possibly heading into the Dark World earlier in the day, wrapping that up, and spending more time in the Light World, and Susie mentions the upcoming festival, which could be a big deal.

{peter parker x fem!reader AU}
based on All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven
SERIES MASTERLIST
word count: 4,111
warnings: mostly fluff, some angst toward the end, mentions of injury
18+!!! minors stay away!
You didn't get much work done with Peter during the weekend. Following your emotional outburst over the argument between the pair of you, Peter stayed at your house surprisingly late into the night. You both seemed to agree the project could wait for a different day, and instead of working you spent the evening talking. While you didn't have much to talk about, Peter had a seemingly endless supply of subject matter to keep you both entertained.
Already you could tell that you were growing attached to him, probably far too much and far too soon, but there was no stopping it any longer. He made you feel good things and gave you a sense of normalcy you'd been craving for so long; there was no way you were giving that up any time soon. If he hurt you in the end, you'd deal with the pain because at least you got a bit of relief in the present.
That Friday evening had been one of the best nights of your life, regardless of how mundane or even boring it probably would have seemed to your younger self. You learned a lot about Peter, more than he'd already forced you to know in the weeks leading up to that night, and you answered all his random and silly questions about yourself. You learned that his favorite colors were red and blue, totally un-ironically, and that he'd gotten his abilities the summer between the eighth and ninth grades.
You also learned that Peter was just as stubborn and competitive as you used to be, and something about that knowledge sparked some of the old flame back into you. So, chasing after the fire that used to warm you, you made a deal with him. If he could prove to you that the Avengers were not as bad as you thought they were, then you would willingly do your speech in favor of the superheroes.
"You--you what?" Peter sputtered, laughing so hard he had to clutch his stomach with both hands and gasp for air, "You really cut the hair off of all of your sister's dolls because she beat you at checkers?"
You snorted, a harsh sound that made your nose ache as you laughed along with him, "Yes! She knew how competitive I was, and she took that risk by challenging me. I never lost a game of checkers again after that."
He slipped into another torrent of giggles much to your amusement, his eyes crinkling at the corners with a beautiful smile that made your own chuckling soften as you found yourself mesmerized by the sight of it. Peter Parker was certainly a very breathtaking spectacle to behold, and you had to wonder why he wasn't so much more popular in school. You knew why, everyone could see the relentless torment that Flash Thompson unleashed on him, but it still made no sense to you.
What was there to dislike about Peter? Just days ago you'd been beyond annoyed by him, and weeks before that you'd been entirely uncaring of his existence, but already that all seemed completely nonsensical to you. Now that you'd let him in, given him a chance, it seemed impossible to ever not like him again.
Wheezing breathlessly, Peter chortled, "I can't even judge you. One time, when Ned and I were thirteen, he bet that he could finish a LEGO set before me. He was going to beat me, and I may have accidentally knocked it off the table so he had to start over."
"So," you finally gasped as you stopped laughing, "so, what you're saying is, you're just as stubborn as I am and we're definitely never going to agree on this project?"
His chuckles slowly died out as he nodded, "I guess so."
You knew what he meant to say, and that was the fact that he didn't feel he was being needlessly stubborn in this situation. This wasn't about competition to him. No, this was about him not seeing himself or his colleagues in a negative light; he couldn't fathom the distaste you had for them.
As much as you disagreed, you could understand that. You could understand how he would see the people he worked alongside as good people. It made sense that he would have a different perspective when he was the one out saving civilians from big and small horrors alike, rather than being the one to suffer the consequences of the destruction that happened as a result.
Along with your understanding, you also didn't think that Peter was a bad person. You couldn't possibly imagine him causing harm, intentionally or not, and maybe that was why you said what you did next. Maybe that was why you proposed, "I'll make you a deal. If you can prove to me that the Avengers are not who I think they are, then I'll take your stance for the speech. Give me a reason to speak positively of them, and I will."
Even now, as you made your way toward your locker at school on Monday, you weren't entirely sure what had made you decide to propose such a thing. You were pretty certain that you were setting Peter up for failure. In your eyes, there wasn't much of anything that Peter could say, do, or show you that would change your mind. Nothing would make what had happened to your sister okay or forgivable.
Yet, he clearly did not feel the same way. Peter looked as if he was walking on sunshine that morning as he pranced along beside you, a triumphant grin on his face as he whispered, "I have a plan."
"A plan?"
He grinned wider as you looked at him curiously, "Yes, a plan. To change your mind."
Quirking an eyebrow expectantly, you waited for him to elaborate as you gathered your things from your locker for class. He never did, only continuing to practically vibrate with excitement beside you in silence. "Are you going to tell me what this plan of yours is?" you prodded.
"No." When you looked at him in confusion he continued, "If I tell you what it is, you're not going to have an open mind. You're going to think of all the reasons it won't change your mind, and then it won't."
Suddenly, you were the one chasing after Peter instead of the other way around. All day you found yourself glancing to him suspiciously and following him around much like he had you in all the weeks leading up to your budding friendship, and it was a big change of pace for you. You felt a little pathetic following him like a lost puppy, but you were nosy and wanted to know what his plan was.
No matter how much you pried, though, he didn't budge. In Calculus he ignored your staring and whispers with a far too smug smirk on his face, though you secretly liked the way it looked on him. Who would have guessed that Peter Parker could be arrogant?
In Gym class he teasingly ran faster than you could keep up the moment you asked again, only slowing down once you begrudgingly promised to leave the subject alone. Though he did tell you he wouldn't run faster than you anyways because people would probably get suspicious if he suddenly turned into a track star. He had to play the roll of the un-athletic nerd regardless.
At lunch he didn't sit with you for the first time since he'd started joining you. He'd waved at you from where he sat with his friends, Ned and MJ, but you found yourself leaving the cafeteria rather than joining him. You weren't ready to take that next step yet; being open with Peter was hard enough, and you weren't ready to have to talk to two more people. Still, you tried to pretend it didn't bother you despite the little sinking feeling you felt in your stomach.
He still sat with you in Speech class, which you were relieved by. Ms. Lovell left everyone to work with their partners on their project, warning the class sternly, "You may have until the end of the semester, but don't slack off now. I'm only giving you two other class periods after now to work on this."
Peter quietly joked, "I bet she just forgot to grade our homework from last week."
When the woman sat down at her desk and pulled over a stack of papers, uncapping her favorite red-glitter pen that she always graded with, you both fell into a fit of giggles that you had to work very hard to keep quiet. It only took one glare from the teacher to have you ducking behind your book to hide how red your face turned, both from embarrassment and repressed laughter. You did, however, notice to fleeting expression of shock on her face to see it was you giggling in her class.
Not much work was done during that class, though for you and Peter the work couldn't be started yet. You still hadn't decided on a stance, and until Peter either succeeded with his plan or failed as you expected, a decision wouldn't be made. Instead, you both whispered to each other about whatever random thoughts seemed to pop into your heads in the moment.
"People are staring at me," you acknowledged, glancing around the class timidly at the sight of many students giving you curious stares, "is there something on my face?"
Peter laughed, though he quickly disguised it as a cough, and responded, "No, they're just confused."
Confused, you furrowed your eyebrows and looked at the boy with the warm brown eyes who was grinning at you proudly. "Why?" you asked, shifting uncomfortably. You were used to people giving you strange looks, but these were different. They weren't looking at you as if they were pitying you, or as if they were waiting for you to finally break down and go crazy. No, now they were looking to you with wonder and interest.
He bit the inside of his cheek, a pensive expression blossoming over his face as he thought of how to say whatever he planned to tell you. For a moment you admired the way his ruffled eyebrows furrowed, his lips pouting slightly as he pursed them in concentration. Only when the strange, old fluttering in your heart and your stomach started to erupt did you look away and wrinkle your nose.
You didn't want to admit it, but you knew exactly what that feeling was. It was a feeling you hadn't encountered since before the incident, and it was a feeling you didn't want to experience now. So, you told yourself it was just nerves over having a friend again, and squashed the stupid butterflies down as hard and as fast as you could.
"Well," Peter finally started, eyes wide and a little nervous as if he expected you to potentially be offended by his words, "you haven't exactly... talked to anyone in awhile."
Suddenly, it clicked. People were staring because you weren't the reclusive, closed-off, depressed girl you had been for the past thirteen months. They were staring because you seemed... happy. "Oh." you nodded, the sound feeble and slightly broken, "I guess that makes sense."
People were staring at you because you were the girl with the dead sister who they'd been waiting to witness implode, and suddenly you were talking, and laughing, and smiling. You were talking, laughing, and smiling with Peter Parker, no less. They were looking at you because you seemed fine.
Were you fine? Peter shot you a few concerned glances as you seemed to slip back into the repression you'd been living in for so long, but you gave him a small smile as if to say, "I'm okay." You were okay.
For the first time since she died, now that you really thought about it, you truly felt okay. You felt good. You felt happy. Sure, you were terrified of the little flutters you felt whenever you stared a little too long at Peter's face, and you still felt all the bad things you'd been feeling, but now you had good things to balance them out.
It would have been so easy to slip back into that cycle of beating yourself up again. That little voice in the back of your head was still there, the one that sounded like your sister but so different at the same time, that told you that you didn't deserve to have friends. You didn't deserve to make new friends, or feel those butterflies that meant something more, not when she couldn't do those things ever again.
It would have been easy, but you didn't want that for yourself anymore. If you did that, if you pushed Peter away because of her, then you would be left with all the bad feelings and more of them. You didn't deserve that. So, you took a deep breath, and gave a more genuine smile, and met the stares head on. She would have wanted you to be happy, and you deserved to be happy.
After school, Peter left you with a swimming mind and a million thoughts of what his plan could be. He didn't mention anything, and you wondered how long you would have to wait for whatever it was to come to fruition. What could it be?
You spent the afternoon in the family room, an action that seemed to startle and befuddle your parents who watched you like hawks. Though they didn't say anything, only greeting you casually as if everything were totally normal, you could practically hear the gears turning in their heads. You could imagine their thoughts of, "Who is this alien that looks like our child?"
As confused as they were, eventually the decided to just go with it. Your mom curled up on the sofa with you, and your father fell into his recliner just like old times, and the three of you watched a movie in a comfortable silence. Well, mostly comfortable. Nobody dared to look at or acknowledge the empty middle cushion on the sofa where she'd always sat, or your mother's empty lap that she mindlessly kept brushing her hands over as if waiting for your sister's head to be laying there waiting for her hair to be played with.
Nobody dared, until you did. You weren't entirely sure what compelled you to do it. It seemed as if you were urged to do lots of things you thought you never would these days. But, after half an hour of watching your mother's twitching hands, you laid your head on her lap and closed your eyes to avoid seeing her face.
After a moment, her fingers brushed through your wind-tangled hair and you felt peace. She had always been the one to do this. She had always been the one to burrow her way into your mother's lap, begging to have her scalp massaged or her back traced delicately, and now you understood why. It was comforting for more than one reason.
On one hand, it was just physically relaxing. But, on a more complex level, it gave you a sense of closeness you hadn't realized you'd been longing for. You felt closer with your mother who worked through the tangles in your hair with her fingers, gently scratching your scalp with her manicured fingernails. You felt closer with your sister, too. It felt as if you had a small piece of her to hold onto in that moment, and it was comforting.
By the time the movie ended, you were nearly asleep and the sun had set some time ago. Your mother was the first to break the silence, softly rousing you, "(Y/N), honey, do you want dinner?"
You did, but before you could answer, your phone rang loudly. Glancing at the screen and seeing it was Peter, you nibbled your lip to hide a smile and stated, "Yeah, I'll be down in a minute." They didn't protest as you raced up to your bedroom to answer the call.
"Hello?"
"(Y/N)! Hey!" Peter practically shouted, though his voice cut out with what sounded like a windstorm. "Can you hear me?"
For a moment the audio cut out and you wondered if the call dropped, but then the crackling wind returned and you questioned, "What are you doing?"
Abruptly the sound ended, and he was breathing a little heavily as he responded, "Sorry, I was swinging--"
"Peter! Are you really on your phone while doing that?"
He laughed, "Calm down! My suit, well, Karen, the AI in my suit, is connected to my phone. Completely hands free--I promise."
Your mind flashed back to that night on the roof, the night he'd stopped you, and you remembered how he'd asked a woman named Karen what he was supposed to do. Now it all made sense. You'd been a little curious about who Karen was ever since that night, and now that you knew it was some sort of artificial intelligence that Peter had given such a human name to, you had to laugh.
"Why are you calling me, Spiderman?" you joked.
There was some quiet rustling, as if he were moving around, and he spoke quieter, "I'm on patrol. I just--maybe this is stupid, but I just thought if maybe I could show you the good things I do you'd see that we don't just destroy stuff."
It went silent for a moment before he continued, "I can't exactly take you with me, because that would be stupid, but you could listen."
You hesitated in responding. A part of you wanted to tell him that it was a stupid idea, for multiple reasons, but you decided against it. How would he ever prove anything to you if you didn't give him the chance?
So, you swallowed your protests, and said, "Okay."
"I'll warn you now it's usually pretty boring. A lot of nights I just swing around for awhile and go home without seeing anyone or anything."
That was strangely relieving. You hoped that tonight would be one of those nights; not because you didn't want him to have the chance to really enact his plan, but because you worried for him. What if having you metaphorically there with him distracted him? What if you distracted him and caused him to get hurt?
For awhile, it was a boring night. You and Peter went back and forth, taking turns telling stupid jokes to see who would crack and laugh first, and inevitably he won. He had an endless supply of disgustingly cheesy science puns that left you in stitches every time, even if you'd already seen the joke before on one of his many t-shirts.
You got him to laugh too, though, with all of the dead-pan anti-jokes you may have been secretly googling as you told them. Sometimes the wind would return, alerting you that he was swinging around the city, and every now and then he'd almost forget you were listening as he gave little exclamations of exhilaration in the moment. It was cute, even if the shouts nearly blew out your ear drum every time.
It was a boring night, until it wasn't. One moment the wind was making your phone speaker cut out, and the next it was eerily quiet and you had to pull your phone away to see if the call had dropped. Putting the device on speaker phone, you questioned quietly, "Peter?"
"I'm still here," he whispered, "I see something. Be quiet for a minute."
You listened and waited with baited breathe, probably panicking more than enough for the both of you, as Peter started speaking to Karen. He asked her to start something he called enhanced reconnaissance mode, and you were bursting with suspense and curiosity. What did he see? What was happening?
It felt like an eternity before he acknowledged you again, "Okay, I see a woman cornered by some guys. I think they're trying to... to attack her."
He didn't have to say the word for you to know what he meant, and you felt your stomach explode with anxiety and fear for a woman you couldn't even see. "What are you going to do?" you asked.
"I'm gonna web 'em up, and wait for the police with her." he stated, "I won't be able to talk for a bit, okay?"
And then, everything changed. One moment the wind was back as he swung down to the scene, and suddenly Peter was in full Spiderman mode and almost unrecognizable to you. He was sassier, playful even, despite how serious you knew he really was as he antagonized the bad guys.
The banter didn't last long. You heard the woman scream in terror as a loud ruckus rang through your phone, and Peter groaned. Was he hurt? Did he get hit? There were more thuds and dull smacking sounds, Peter and the men alike grunting and shouting out loudly as she continued to break the atmosphere with her screaming.
You wanted to call out for him, to make sure he was okay, but you were paralyzed in fear. What if you called his name and it distracted him, causing him to really get hurt? But, what if he already was hurt and forgot you were there to potentially call for help?
The fight lasted awhile, before finally the woman's screaming ceased as Peter told her, "Hey, hey! I got them, I got you. It's okay. Everything's okay."
"Peter?" you whispered.
"Everything's okay. It's going to be alright."
He was speaking to you, though he had to phrase it in a way that it sounded as if he were just speaking to her. You didn't believe him that everything was fine, though. It was easy to hear just how winded he was in the way his voice was strained, weaker than before.
Peter was hurt, and you were terrified. His plan was just as stupid as you'd thought it to be. Not because he didn't prove anything to you, because you were happy he'd saved the woman and he had shown you a good thing he did, but because he'd forced you to witness his pain and suffering yet again. You'd had to witness him actually get hurt this time, and the woman's screams still echoed in your ears.
It brought you back to that day. Her screams reminded you of the chaos following the building's collapse, reminded you of how hoarse and sore your throat had been from screaming just like that. Screams of pure horror and panic.
Only after the police finally left, thanking Spiderman for his help, did Peter drop the faux strength and softly whimper, "Shit, that really hurt."
"My window is open."
With that, you hung up and left him to decide what to do by himself.
Your mother quietly knocked at your door, opening it slowly as she poked her head into your room, "Dinner is done if you still want to eat."
Forcing the best smile you could manage, you muttered, "I'm actually not feeling very good. I think I'll just go to bed." You wished you could say you hadn't seen the disappointment written all over her face, clearly let down by you pulling away again, but she nodded nonetheless and shut the door as she trudged away again.
You laid in bed for hours unable to fall asleep, listening to every noise outside with hitched breathe. Was that little knock Peter? Was he at your window? By the time your phone told you it was nearing sunrise, you gave up. He wasn't coming, and you tried to ignore all the horrible thoughts that consumed you.
What if he was so injured he couldn't make it to you? What if he was out on the street somewhere, hurt badly and in need of help? You cursed yourself for hanging up, but you couldn't bring yourself to call him back. It was a strange battle of worry and anger, with anger winning out in the end and stopping you from reaching out.
You were angry at Peter for his stupid plan, causing you to think of all the awful things he seemed to keep at bay during the daytime. You were angry at those men for hurting him. Mostly, you were angry at yourself for being so stubborn. Why were you being prideful and letting the anger stop you from making sure he was alright?
You: are you alive
Peter Parker: yes
Peter Parker: go to sleep
Peter Parker: see you tomorrow?
You: yes. good night.

Sticks & Stones Chapter 6
Tumblr media
Newcomers, may I direct you to the masterlist, where cool info, like what this series is about is?
*
The next morning no one seemed surprised you and Mammon had made up, not even acknowledging it when the two of you walked into breakfast together.
"MC, want to test out a new game I got tonight?" Levi asked, and Asmo cut in before you could answer.
"Boring! What a waste of a Friday night! MC, you should be doing something exciting, like with me!"
You took your seat, leveling Asmo with a look. "Asmo, I'm going out with you tomorrow, so chill." Turning to Levi, you smiled. "Sure, text me whenever."
Levi spoke over Mammon, who was complaining over you "going out with Asmo" to say "Hah, Asmo just got turned down by MC, ROFL!"
Rolling your eyes, you just got your breakfast, sharing a look with Lucifer over the table.
When it was time for you to get to RAD, you dropped your dishes in the sink, yelling at Mammon to hurry up.
"I'm comin', I'm comin'!" He called, meeting you by the door, and the two of you walked a little bit behind Asmo and Satan.
It was getting warmer, and you wondered what Spring was like in the Devildom. You hoped there was a nice park or forest somewhere you could go on a picnic, but knowing demons, it was probably cursed or something.
Next to you, Mammon was humming to himself, looking into the distance. You observed his languid form, wondering if he'd like to go on a picnic with you.
"Whatcha lookin' at?" Mammon barked, turning to you with a confused look.
You shrugged, imagining all of the disasters that would accompany the two of you if you were to go.
"Nothing. Let's keep walking." You linked your arm with his, pulling him forward.
Ignoring his cries of "don't damage the merchandise!" you sped around Satan and Asmo, the latter blowing you a kiss as you did so.
"We're gonna be late," You whined, and Mammon laughed, dragging his feet.
"No, we're not! And since when are ya in such a hurry to get to RAD anyway?" Mammon squawked.
You could only offer him another shrug in response, chuckling as you pulled him forward again.
* * *
Leviathan < MC: Wanna come play now?
MC < Leviathan: omw!
Leviathan < MC: *excited devilmogi*
* * *
You knocked on Levi's door and were told to come in, so you pushed the door open, greeted with the familiar sight of his room.
Out of all of the demon brother's rooms, you probably spent the most time in Levi's, so you knew to step over the stuff on the floor and make your way directly to his gaming console.
"Hey, MC!" Levi greeted warmly, and you smiled at him, taking a seat on the pillow he provided.
"Hey!"
Levi handed you a controller and the two of you jumped into the game, making it through the first few levels easily. You played for a while before growing bored and putting your controller down.
"Let's do something else."
Levi looked over at you and nodded. "Alright. Want to watch something?"
You shrugged, standing. "You pick and I'll get snacks?"
Levi nodded so you made your way to the kitchen, grabbing some stuff you knew he liked than some stuff you liked, as well as some water bottles.
Returning to his room, you dumped the stuff between the two of you and looked at him expectantly.
"Want to watch Average schoolboy meets prodigy musician girl and they fall in love but it turns out the girl is sick and it's really sad?" Levi asked.
"Sure, sounds interesting," You opened a bag of, well, you weren't sure what they were but Solomon had assured you they were safe to eat and good.
Levi pressed play, and the two of you sat in companionable silence, just chilling.
You noticed Levi shooting you looks every once in a while, but brushed it off, figuring he was probably just being weird.
But he kept doing it.
Eventually, it was too hard to focus on the anime he put on so you turned to him, fixing him with a flat look. "What?"
Levi paused the show. "Huh?"
"Why do you keep looking at me?"
At this, Levi blushed, ducking his head. "Sorry."
You waved it off. "Nah, it's fine."
Crinkling the bag of chips on your hands, you waited.
"Ok, ok, so I do have something to say," Levi broke, and you smirked at him, victorious.
"I knew it!"
"Whatever!" Levi whacked your leg with his tail. "It's just when Mammon told us, you know, that, I was really taken aback. You always seem so confident and self-assured, not like a loser at all."
You opened your mouth, but Levi held up his hand.
"And I know this might not mean a lot coming from someone like me, but MC, you're one of the coolest people I know. You're super nice and you always have time for me and never make me feel bad, which I don't know, that means a lot to me."
Levi was blushing, and dammit if you weren't too.
"Levi," You started. "Somehow you know exactly what to say. Thank you."
The outburst from him had surprised you. Usually, Levi would withdraw into himself or mock someone else rather than give out genuine compliments, so you knew it really came from the heart.
"Look at us, sitting like losers in a dark room, LMAO," Levi crowed, seemingly slightly uncomfortable with the silence, so you laughed with him and the two of you went back to playing games and watching anime.
"Hey guys, whatcha up to?" Mammon poked his head in a while later, followed by Asmo, Belphie, and Beel.
"Nothing much," You answered, looking over at Levi, who rolled his eyes at the interruption.
They made themselves comfortable, much to Levi's dismay, but you couldn't say you minded much.
Asmo crowded to your side, hugging your waist.
"I'm so excited for tomorrow! We're going to have so much fun!" He whispered to you, and you nodded, tilting your head to the side to catch his eyes.
He did look excited, which made you a little worried, but overall, you trusted him and knew he wouldn't put you in any too uncomfortable or dangerous situations. Embarrassing, on the other hand? You weren't sure.
When his hand started to trail towards your navel you grabbed it, but gave it a reassuring squeeze, holding it against your side.
"MC, can we watch somethin' other than this?" Mammon groaned from behind you and you chuckled, looking at Levi with an amused expression.
"Sorry, Mammon, Levi's room, Levi's rules." Shrugging, you turned to check on Beel and Belphie, who had sat themselves behind you as well.
Belphie gave you a lazy smile, already half asleep it seemed, and Beel looked up from where he was digging through your and Levi's snacks to beam at you.
Satan joined you in Levi's room sometimes, and Lucifer had never once in your stay at the Devildom, which made you a little sad.
Usually, it was you, Levi, and Mammon, the latter stubbornly sticking around, much to Levi's dismay, but when the other's joined, it was nice, and the fact that Lucifer never participated in gaming or watching a show disappointed you, as you'd like to share that experience with him.
It was just a really good way to chill and bond with the boys, but you knew Lucifer wouldn't allow himself to relax enough to participate.
Satan, you didn't mind as much because he came once in a while if something you were playing or watching interested him, but Lucifer just wouldn't let himself join in.
Asmo started rubbing little circles into your shoulder that felt heavenly; honestly was it really a surprise that he was good at massages, and sometimes without you registering it Mammon had scooted up, putting his knees against your back, so it was natural to lean into them as it got later.
Eventually, you let your eyes slide shut and fall asleep, the sounds of the show, occasional commentary from the boys, and crinkle from Beel becoming the soundtrack to your dreams.

Can we talk about Lance for a bit ?
There is something that really bothers me in season 8. I mean everyone is kind of still recovering but I feel like I need to say it anyway.
They chose to heavily feature Allurance from episode one cause they planned to kill Allura. It's a fact. As much as I don't ship it, they make a really cute couple with adorable scenes that made me smile and support them and I could have got over my disappointment regarding who I wanted to end up with Lance if only Lance had shown a bit of happiness by being with her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
No manner how we look at it, he isn't happy ! Why is that ? He finally got what he always wanted so why did they depicted him like that ? I really don't understand and that's what makes me so angry about all of this.
He doesn't seem like someone in love who finally got the girl! He seems hurt! Why is that ??
I'm ready to ignore the messy plotline of this season, the inconsistencies and everything that is wrong because overall, what I really care about is Lance as a character.
He means a lot to me because he is so different from the characters we normally meet in this kind of stories. He began as an annoyingly flirty boy who was desperately searching for glory to calm the insecurities he only show to few people. He was talented but needed someone else to acknowledge it to fully realize it himself. He was defined by his loudness and his love for love. He was looking for validation and a special person who would love him as profoundly as he love others. He had big dreams, big expectations, a bright future ahead of him. He wasn't overly masculine, liked being pretty and throw terrible pick up lines. He was funny, adorable I fell for him as much as I identified with (even if we are so different). He wasn't perfect, far from it, but it's also why I love him.
For many - including me - he was also representation. Not only for another kind of complex character but also by being Cuban and supposedly bisexual, something that seemed to be heavily implied so many times but I won't even talk about it.
During the series he has grown to be more self assured through the missions he accomplished with his friends, the people he met but most importantly Keith who trusted him and relied on his abilities, which definitely shown him his worth. I'm not even gonna talk about Klance as romantic. Keith is an important person for Lance's character, a friend he needed by his side along the way and that still was there for him in season 8. Which is really great, by the way.
I'm not gonna talk about the 'first choice' thing or the 'someone he needs, not someone he wants' or even the 'endgame' aspect of his romance. But yeah, that was all lies.
Tumblr media
On this photo, Allura seems calm and happy, she seems like she can finally see a future with Lance and it's great. What is not so great, though ? When I saw this particular part in the episode, I stopped and watched Lance's face for about 5 minutes to try to understand. I don't see a happy boyfriend, here. I see a guy kind of unsure of what he is doing. I see a guy who doesn't know if what he is having is for real or even if it's what he really wants. He seems quite uncomfortable, tensed. It's maybe just a projection on my part but I genuinely cant see happiness here no matter how long I look at it. But maybe I'm really biased and don't see what actually is, you tell me.
Throughout the season, he was here to support Allura on her journey and it's great, but I would have wanted her to reciprocate it in a way or another. It's what Lance always needed and he didn't got it.
Tumblr media
And in the end, he cried. I feel like he never really believed that this relationship would stick, that for whatever reason, they would end up parting paths. And the crew chose to kill her... In all honesty, Allura is not a character I really care about. I thought nothing about her in s1 and in s2, I started disliking her with what happened with Keith. But even thought I don't really care for her, making her die ? For seemingly no reason ? It's tough. And once again, I'm not even talking about how they killed representation or how people in the fandom can feel crushed by that, betrayed, even. I'm only remaining on Lance's side.
He never really had someone to reciprocate his love, something confirmed by his mom. He fell for Allura, casually at first, really hard when the series continued. What he feels for her is genuinely profound and I really liked that he confessed to her but even then... why did he seemed so sad ?
Just look at him !
Tumblr media
He probably never loved anyone as much as he loved her. He sees a lot in her but he never felt like he was on equal ground with her. She is an awesome gorgeous space princess. He is just a boy from Cuba. (An awesome funny adorable space ranger but what do I know...). He never felt like he had a chance or deserved her affection. What about that ? It wasn't mentioned even once and I think that this is the reason of his constant sad face while he confesses, while he kisses her, while he conforts her...
I just don't understand and it makes me sad to see him like that. I know, he is just a character, I know this is just a cartoon, I know this just a kid show. But seeing a character you so much love becoming this sad guy that only support without reciprocation, this guy that loved love and is betrayed by it ? I just can't feel anything else but anger and disappointment for the wasted potential.
He ended up losing the woman he loved. The only person who seemed to reciprocate his feelings and because of that I think that he will always be a little more cautious about it because he has always been disappointed. He shot for the stars and fell hard. I fell hard with him. And as someone that feel that love will never go both ways, it just makes me even more bitter about this.
About the altean markings I don't know what to think. Some people think Allura turned him altean, others think she just left him something to remember her by. In both cases, this is wrong.
If the first theory is true, then what? What does that mean beside the ridiculous impossibility to change race? Did she make him altean to 'level him up' from his human status because he wasn't a match for her? Because altean are so much better? Because there was no need for that! Alteans are not all dead so why? For all I know, it wasn't to make royalty knowing that he ended up farmer so... once again, why?
If the second theory is true, well... That's even worst. She wants him to remember her ? I think he has enough around him for that, the status, the commemorations, the legend that will follow her, stories, his friends that gather to talk about her and how they miss her and what she meant for them... Giving him this will only prevent him from moving on. And it's harsh. I personally think that he should have moved on a long time ago. She never loved him, she was annoyed by his flirty attitude, by his simple presence sometimes. He should have seen that blatant rejection and accepted that yeah, he wants her but cannot have her. Romantic love wasn't something she cared about for so long. And then she fell for Lotor who betrayed her. And I think she honestly still doesn't care about Lance this way.
I think Allura didn't fell in love with Lance. She was heartbroken because of Lotor, because of the altean, because of the crown she lost, because she saw everyone with families while she lost hers. I think Allura just wanted someone that would take care of her and lift her burden with her. Just someone that would remind her that she is not alone in the universe, a distraction from the pain she was feeling. Someone that would ground her to prevent her from losing hope. He was easy, he loved her, she just accepted it not reciprocated it.
I see this like that because there was no real build up for their relationship. It wasn't a slow burn. It wasn't even reciprocal. She was sad that Lance felt so strongly about her and accepted their relationship for her own balance and because she didn't want to see her friend so sad. It didn't solve the problem for him though. Plus when the vision of Lotor, her ex boyfriend, told her to go get the creature thing she did but when Lance, her current (well past cause well, she's dead) boyfriend told her not to because it was dangerous and he cared to much for her safety, she didn't listen to him... Great. That's love folks.
I really could have fell for their story but seeing Lance so sad, so taken advantage of... He was so dull, no charisma, no joke, no stupid lines, nothing. He wasn't himself. He wasn't the Lance we saw grow during six to seven seasons. He wasn't the hero, second in command, courageous sharpshooter we all know.
And the sword ? Was it to foreshadow his future encounter with Alfor and Allura giving him blue markings ? Well, that was unnecessary. They could have done that without making people think that something more exciting would happen, that he would actually use the sword.
And the game show ? If they were to be together why the fuck didn't Lance chose her ? Why the fuck didn't she chose him ?... Well, she didn't because she didn't love him more than she loved the other Paladins. But why Lance didn't? Why make Lance and Keith chose each other? If they didn't want to involve them in any romantic kind of situation (they totally failed), they could at least have made them hug. And an emotional scene to express how much they care for each other to justify being worth choosing the other over anyone else to leave and not spend eternity in the game show. Keith was there for Lance and Lance was too obsessed with Allura to even ask about him. Great, even in a totally no homo friends kind of look it was badly handled.
Can someone explain to me the reason of the sunset setting ? Or why Lance freaked out when Veronica asked him to "put in a good word for her" with Keith ? They are friends, now, there was no allusion to their past rivalry. There was therefore no need for that kind of reaction.
He didn't save Shiro, for absolutely nothing. They never talked about it again. They never gave him the opportunity to make up for how bad he felt about that. He didn't event get a conversation with Shiro. They never gave a closure to Lance's arc.
Why do I feel like they did all that to make everyone pay for the shippers that made the toxic reputation of this fandom ? Why do I feel like the writers hate Lance ? Why do I feel like they totally baited us ?
The guy so in love with the idea of love ended up a lonely farmer. That's a great message for kids : don't even think that life will live up to your expectations no matter how hard you work for it. Don't even think that you can find any kind of fulfillment in your life, neither in love nor career.
I've never been in a fandom while a series was still going but I engaged in the Voltron fandom. I discovered it quite late but fell hard for it, it brought me so much happiness, so much hope ! I will never do it again because I'm not sure that the sadness and disappointment I feel right now are worth it. I will never be mad at the theorists and meta writers, they are good people who saw the extraordinary potential of Voltron, they probably feel worse to have spent so much time and energy picking up clues that definitely existed and only served to bait us.
In conclusion, everything Lance did this season was in a way or another related to Allura, as if he forgot he was someone of himself. As if the writers forgot who this character was. And it's painful.
At least there are still the beautiful fan art and fanfictions that really make him justice.

Homestuck
I pair you with Sollux Captor
Introvert ². Since you’re both fairly anti-social, a large portion of your relationship is spent indoors with just the two of you hanging out alone, enjoying each other’s company and the fact that it’s just the two of you. While Sollux rarely ever has anyone over since he too values his time spent alone doing whatever it is he does, he make some exceptions for you because he finds that he actually enjoys your company and being around you. That says a lot given that this is Sollux we’re talking about, and even if sometimes you two hanging out is done in silence, the both of you left to your own devices, it’s still a shock to his friends that you’re there often.
He likes sarcastic and dark humored banter so you being on the saltier side is great for him. He can tease you and insult you jokingly without the fear of backlash from you taking it to heart. He can look forward to a witty comeback on your part, and he thrives on the moments you two go back and forth at each other. To spectators it may seem like your relationship is a tad bit unhealthy and bully-oriented, but the both of you understand each other’s boundaries.
But then again, Sollux is sort of an asshole after all. Should he accidentally step over those boundaries and offend by saying something shitty he really didn’t put any thought into, he would not immediately own up to it. He’d sooner say you’re being over dramatic and he was just joking than acknowledge that he hurt you and own up to it by apologizing.  However, with time, if you give him the cold shoulder enough he may come to accept his fate and begrudgingly say he’s sorry and he won’t do it again. He’s being honest when he says this! He can be a jerk sometimes but once he gets past that first ‘shit, sorry I said that’ he’s sure not to tread back on that same territory so he can avoid hurting your feelings and feeling that same ‘I fucked up’ guilt.
As your inner fangirl side comes out, Sollux may roll his eyes and tease you for it, tauntingly saying you’re being obnoxious about things that don’t even matter. To him, doing things like this also ties into his whole ‘you’re being overdramatic’ but admittedly he does like to see you happy, and while watching you get excited about the things you love doesn’t exactly melt his heart he does find it cute. He may not understand why you love said thing so much but he won’t shit on your parade.
Sollux isn’t too competitive himself and mostly just sticks to talking about games and the things he knows a lot about, but if you taunt him enough he’ll get annoyed and will try to prove to you that he’s better than you at whatever it is you’re challenging. Luckily for you, Sollux is a handy guy but just happens to also suck at a lot of things. He’ll say that he wasn’t even trying in the first place should he lose.
Black Butler
I pair you with Ronald Knox
Ronald would be a fair match for you, even if his personality is a bit more contrasting than yours is. One of the biggest divides in your personas would be the amount of socialness between the two of you. Ronald is fairly high on the social scale and has no issue when he often finds himself drawing a lot of attention. It may be difficult at first to adjust to him but with time as you two grow closer, he finds that he may even be able to help you come out of your shell just a bit more. He doesn’t take you to huge events (unless you’d like to go- in that case he’d have a field day) but he likes to drag you along with him at smaller parties and gatherings. However, at times his socialness can become a problem as he has a small habit to occasionally ignore you, getting caught up in talking with other party goers and attendees.
After these parties or whatever things you two attend he makes time for you and him to be alone so that you can unwind and relax with one another. He likes to be out and moving and would never really consider hanging out at home to be fun, but finds that with you it can be enjoyable.
It’s no secret that Ronald is a very flirty person who likes to make the girls around him feel flustered. His flirtiness is actually a large portion as to why you two are together in the first place- at first he may have overlooked you but once you were zeroed in on he found you too attractive to let you be. No matter how scary you seemed at first and no matter how introverted you are, he found a way to work his way into your life and couldn’t be happier about it. Even after you two are together his flirts and comments don’t end, and he relishes in the times where he can make you blush over the smallest of things. He teases you a lot when his words get to you, and also loves when you reply with sarcasm.
He adores when you get excited and hyped up over your interests. Given how intimidating you seem to people who don’t know you, in his mind it’s almost like a treat to know how you are when you’re passionate. To him it’s the cutest thing watching you go off about the things you like, and truly he could listen to talk about them for hours as he enjoys you being so open about it.
Though he himself isn’t too sarcastic or salty, he has no issue with you being so. Truthfully he finds it sort of funny when you go off on people or act snarky to them. Once in awhile if you’re sassing him he might reply back with something equally witty but that’s about it- there aren’t many times where you’ll exchange playful insults. However he is a master at fighting back with flirts as they seem to get under your skin easier than taunts.
Ronald appreciates that you enjoy smaller things such as writing and arts, and especially music. He himself is a fan of finer arts but never really shows it, and subtly encourages you to indulge in your interests so he can see. If you’re an artist it’s likely he would want to see them even if you don’t show them to anyone. He doesn’t mean to pry but he gets excited and curious and accidentally ends up kind of forcing you to show him your skills (which he fawns over).
Haikyuu
I pair you with Tsukishima Kei
It’s likely that Tsukishima met through Yamaguchi, who in turn became your friend once you joined their class. At first neither of you were very talkative unless it was to Yamaguchi, and he was the main reason for any of your interactions at all. He was the mastermind behind bringing you two together, and it wasn’t easy. Tsukishima can be an ass to strangers (or even his friends at times) and you’re scary at first so there wasn’t much blossoming between the two of you until you guys warmed up to one another enough to become closer, then turn into something a little bit more than friends.
He teases you to hell and back over seemingly everything. It may seem like he’s bring cruel but he only does so because he knows you can handle it and he knows you’ll bounce something back right at him. Sometimes when the two of you are trading sarcasm and smartass remarks Yamaguchi might chime in and ask if everything’s okay since it really seems like you two are sort of bullying each other, but no, y'all are okay and are just having some fun.
At the calmer times since even Tsukishima can’t be sarcastic forever, he is capable of being pretty damn romantic when he wants to be and goddamn is it a treat. He might throw jabs at you here and there but it’s all lighthearted and never really has any strength behind it. He enjoys relaxing with you and chilling out on his days off and after practice, sharing your interests like favorite shows and genres.
Music is his life so if you happen to share his music taste he’s really excited and just dying to show you all the songs he likes. On the outside he may just say ‘cool’ and react pretty mellow about it, but don’t be fooled, he’s suddenly making mental playlists in his head and all the songs he can’t wait to make you listen to. All the songs you suggest to him in turn are his new favorites and he listens to them on repeat, and suddenly he’s thinking of you while listening to those old love songs he used to zone out at.
Tsukki might tease you and poke a little bit of fun when your more dorkier side comes out about the things you love, but it’s pretty easy to deter him and shut him up by bringing up his nerdy interests (such as his dinosaur collection). Like music, if you share his passions for dinos or show taste he’ll be happy to share his favorite movies and documentaries with you and all the while he’ll try to hide his emotions and seem like it’s not a big deal when it really is. All of his favorite things are shared and they’re being shared with one of his favorite people, what’s better than that. Sometimes you two get into some pretty deep conversations at 3 am about seemingly obscure topics and Tsukki would be lying if he said he didn’t love every single minute of it (even if it costs him some lost hours of sleep).
