"Well well well, what a surprise. The Crown Prince, standing in my shop."
You stand behind the counter, staring down at the man behind it. He has a cloak on to obscure his features, but his eyes are too bright, and his cloak is too clean, boots too high quality.
You point your finger towards the door he just walked through.
"Get out. I am not going to be held accountable for whatever happens, or whatever problems you have. Get. Out."
"No. I need your services."
"I need to keep my head attached and this," you gesture towards the space in between you two. "Is putting that in grave danger." You huff, and put your hands to your hips.
"How did you even find this place?"
He shrugs, and removes the hood from his head. The low lamps almost brush his hair, and paint him a warm gold.
"I need your services."
"You need to get out."
"I can assure you that you will remain unharmed. By my word. " You snort.
"Mob mentality doesn't work like that when they're hellbent on ripping you to shreds." You're liable to jump over this counter and push him out yourself, if you're forced too.
"This isn't a matter of want. I need your services. No one knows that I am here, and I only have a small window of time."
Teal, yellow, a rusted red. His eyes are bold and intense, and he doesn't even shy or flinch away from yours, even as you feel the power swirl in them, unknown and feared by the commonplace. He seems desperate, and you are curious.
"Tell me what you 'need', and I'll see if I'll help you."
He steps closer till only the counter stands between you, and stares down at you with all his stoic-ness.
"I assume I am under a curse. I do not know when or how it was placed, but everyone seems to fall for me upon first sight."
"And that's a curse?"
"When you're in a position such as mine, yes. I need you to identify it, and possibly find a way to break it."
"Hm. And that's it?" You lean against your counter like a cat stretching. You're not going to be made to feel uncomfortable in your own shop.
"You don't want to curse someone? You don't want a potion for strength or invisibility? Or luck?"
"Everything is a matter of skill and circumstance," he raises a hand, blasé.
"Manipulate the circumstances to your favor, and the rest is history. I don't need any of those. I need you to identify what curse I am under."
"Well, alrighty, let's have a look then." Quick as a snake you grab a fistful of hair, and pull him down to your level, balancing on your tiptoes. His hair is soft in your hand, and he doesn't fight, leaving you to your whims. He does grit his teeth though, so you don't think he's complying to you simply out of goodwill.
There are no bumps on his skull, no scabs. From what you can see, his skin has no discoloration or bumps or rashes, his pores seem normal as well.
He smells like books and leaves and clean linen, the slightest musk and hint of leather. Nothing odd. You move one of the ear phones, and he tenses at this, but his eyes are only slightly pointed, nothing odd.
You tap his chin, hand under his jaw.
"Let me see your teeth." He looks at you oddly but complies. His teeth are straight and white, he still has his wisdom teeth. And his tongue is flat and pink. You touch his adams apple, which is normal. You can't tell anything. No odd moles or scars even.
"I don't see any sign of a curse. Not from what I can see."
"Nothing? Nothing odd or strange?"
"No. The only odd thing I can tell is your eyes, have they always been like this?"
"Yes. This…phenomenon only started around a year ago."
"Hm. Maybe its something you ingested? Or a latent curse." You let him go, and he rises back up, straightening his hair with a frown. You can see his brain working a mile a minute.
"Latent. So there's a set of conditions that activated the curse." His eyes cut to you, and a ordinary person would jolt. You smile.
"So it's possibly there's another set of conditions to deactivate it." You shrug.
"Probaly. Most likely. Otherwise, I don't think you're cursed at all. Maybe it's just your charms. Many women have finally had their debut and entered the socialite. You're the Crown prince, you're just desirable."
"Not to this extent. People are frantic, obsessive. There's definitely something more at play here."
"I only did a brief basic check but I find nothing odd about you." You look him over.
"At least not from what I can see."
"But," you raise your hands, "that's your problem, and not mine. Thank you for visiting my shop, the door is right there. I'll send the check personally to you from the palace, thank you very much~"
"There must be something more you can do."
There is plenty you can do. You are from a long line of witches and the knowledge of generations is all within you. It is all an encyclopedia, they are your chapters and you are their sum, and you're not sure you want to aid a prince when it's likely you'd get your head sliced off because of it.
Moat likely he'd have you sequestered away wile you rot like and old hag from fables and legends, denied fame and recognition and most finer things, till you outlive your uselessness. You know how these royals treat beings like yours.
Prince Al Haitham takes out a pouch of coins and tosses it onto the counter. Gold coins pour out, a lot of coins.
"I am willing to pay you for your continued service."
"Continued service?" You question, eyes on the gold, eyebrow raised.
"Yes, for you to run more tests, and make whatever potions that I might need for whatever occasion might arise. I could even enroll you as a doctor, or guard."
"And have me shut away in some tower, no doubt."
"No. I'll need you on the scene for whatever issues ir complications arrive. You will be no guest." He reaches ynderneath hid cloak, and from within, produces a beautiful brooch, shaped like a parrots wing.
"This is a personal gift from a friend of mine. This is my proof and your ticket to my court." It is ridiculously beautiful, and obviously made in excruciating care. This is real.
Knowledge of ages past or not, money is money. Fame (or notoriety) is recognition. So if the pay matches your skillset…
"I might not find anything, ever. If you are cursed it's hidden exponentially well. You want to take that risk?" You look up from the pouch and brooch with a soft frown.
"And I here I thought you said that everything is a matter of skill and circumstance." The mirth returns to your voice though as you tease.
"Yes. Circumstance has led me to you and my skills help me to barter. And you and your skills will increase the luck and favorability of my circumstances. You are useful, and I am in need of you." He gestures to himself and the room, covered in your trinkets and potions and ingredients. His eyes land on the pouch pointedly.
"I will provide all you need and wish. Join my side, and reap the rewards of being mine."
You scoff a little, and rest your chin in your hands. Sweet words. They're working.
"...You say you're cursed but that sounds more like a love confession than some sort of proclamation. You're rather smooth, Your Highness."
"So is that a yes?"
"Well…we'd have to draw up a contract, put it in writing, y'know? That takes time. I have to make sure my shop isn't left abandoned, and make sure I have a stable pay–"
"That will be done. I'll draft a contract and we can overlook it next time." He draws up his hood again, and turns towards the doors, quick and sure. His time must nearly be out. Despite yourself, you call out to him. Your fingers trace the brooch.
"Why…why did you choose to come to my shop, or even offer me a contract? What made me so special?" You grin, like how of course could he think of anyone else but you, but you really want to know.
Prince Al Haitham stands there, in the low lamplight, looking both ominous and debonair. You're starting to think he's just ridiculously handsome and not really cursed.
He shrugs, a hand fiddling with the string to his earphones.
"You're the only one who didn't offer to read my palm or tell the future through my eyes when I arrived. Neither did you deign to tell me my love life through the stars."
"I wanted you the hell out of here."
"Exactly," he nods. "You are the only one with some common sense." With that, he leaves your shop, leaving you with the silence and weight of a new proposition.
Maybe you should read the stars to tell your future. You're in for a trip, now.

Re :
Thinking about that Lycaon I being half-lizard who mysteriously dies so Willy’s human descendants take the throne AU -
It would be dramatic because while Seiros the Warrior and pals focused on the people who had relics and all, the Mole People already “infiltrated” Adrestia that early -
And instead of having deep Earl Grey, let the mole people play on preexisting biases and dark thoughts, thus Lycaon wouldn’t be killed by mole people, but by his “siblings/nephews” who really wanted that throne -
Why?
Because meritocracy gone wrong!
Willy said people with best interests at heart should rule/become nobles, and let’s say Lycaon, by virtue of having been raised by his mom and what's left of his maternal fam, has them.
What about the other “humans” who also have those best interests at heart, and really want to help the people? Why shouldn’t they inherit the Adrestian throne?
Comes the Meritocracy angle, and by virtue of being a Nabatean, Lycaon I is the better fighter (compared to his siblings/nephews).
Lycaon I would be the perfect king/emperor candidate, popular, talented, wise beyond his years (that’s the catch, he isn’t a regular teen, he is older) -> he has the most merit, so what is supposed to happen to the “human” Hresvelgs?
They will always feel inferior to their “brother/uncle”, and never be a match for him - worse, they will never sit on Enbarr’s throne.
Coupled with maybe Solon suggesting that of course Lycaon would think of them as inferior and lesser beings, because he might be their brother/uncle, he is first and foremost not a human, a descendant of a beast who inherently feels superior to them. Why would he even bother with his “inferior relatives”?
(Something like the Hresvelgs being on the verge of falling down a cliff, and finally falling with a push from a mole man)
Lycaon is thus killed by his siblings (or their descendants) and Willy, who heavily suspects the “jealousy” reason - if he was an Enbarr Lord, maybe he knew all about those political assassinations or something - gives up, he’s just here to see the next Emperor and maybe crown her, but then he fucks away.
If he partly (?) fought against Nemesis because he thought Nemesis was the reason why Nabateans and Humans cannot coexist peacefully, then he is slapped in the face as he sees his own blood killing itself for petty reasons and just, jealousy.
What would that mean for Rhea though...
Maybe Lycaon’s death would be the turning point where she thinks only Sothis can guide the land, and ultimately launch her on her “rez sothis plan” because Nabateans can’t guide the land (it lead to the first agarthan war), humans obviously can’t (remember Nemesis?) and “Human and Nabateans” together failed, since Lycaon was assassinated, so it only leaves Sothis. Maybe Wilhelm also came to the same conclusion, and he passed away while they were building Garreg Mach, furthering Rhea’s determination to resurrect Sothis and have her “repair” the world.
Even if, in that case, I don’t think Wilhelm would tell Rhea everything, maybe just something like “Lycaon was killed” and not who killed him, and why. Rhea drew her own conclusions (humans because he was half-nabatean) which weren’t wrong, per se, but not as petty as "third niece thrice removed Martha had him killed because she wanted to sit on the throne".
As for Adrestia, meanwhile, it would explain why an Aegir thought he could become Emperor of Adrestia by challenging the current one to a duel - even if the Hresvelgs are supposed to be Emperors because they descend from both Willy and Seiros the Warrior - if that Aegir knew the current Emperor became, well, Emperor after getting rid of Lycaon, and, in a way, usurping the title, it's free real estate to run for the title.
Tldr : someone should have smashed Willy's nuts to save Fodlan.

Guide to Attaining a Clean and Perfect Head Shave
When your father taught you how to shave, he focused on the cheeks and chin, and that might have been enough for a long time for you. But what about the balding crown? You were never ready for it!
You may not have your dad around to show you the ropes on dealing with the growing baldness that you probably inherited from him, and that’s why we’ve come up with this post, to tell you how you can use a head shaver for men and get a clean head shave.
Tips on how to get a clean head shave time and again
● Finding the right razor: We’ve often come across people who shave their heads with just about any type of razor. However, if you’re planning on using a razor, we’d recommend getting one with three to five blades. Make sure that it has a flexible head that can handle the contour of the head.
● Buzz it down: If you’re serious about a clean head shave, you’ll want to buzz the hair down to a workable length. For this, you’d need a reliable clipper set. You can try removing the guard and buzz all the way down. This makes the job of the head shaver easier as it lessens the resistance to the shaver blade.
● Rinse off in a hot shower: When we shave our face, we soften the skin with warm water. This opens the pores, relaxes the hair, and minimizes friction while using a shaver. The same applies to head shavers. Rinsing off in a hot shower will not only make it easy for you to use the head shaver and get a clean shave but would also wash away the hair clippings.
● Exfoliate: Yup, you read that right! When shaving your head, grab a gritty scrub and slather it onto your head. This would not only get rid of the dead cells but also prevent clogged pores and get rid of ingrown hairs. While shaving the head is in itself an exfoliating process, you’d still need to minimize the additional problems.
● Apply a pre-shave oil: According to experts, using pre-shave oil allows the razor to glide effortlessly on the skin. It also acts as a barrier between the blade and the skin which protects you from experiencing a burning sensation.
● Lather up: Doesn’t matter whether you use a gel or a cream, but lather your head before shaving. For beginners, we recommend using something transparent, so that you can visualize the scalp, moles, and the head contour while using a head shaver for men. It also guarantees comfort and a cleaner shave.
How to keep the bald head looking beautiful?
Men with shaved heads need to maintain their look to prevent their bald heads from showing signs of age spots and wrinkles, pointed out a renowned dermatologist. This generally happens because it receives the maximum radiation from the sun. Thus, men should treat their heads just as they treat their faces. In the morning, wipe the scalp with a warm cloth, and use a cleanser in the evening. Try using an SPF-based moisturizer as well. Moreover, you can try using Groomie’s BaldiePro Electric Head Shaver for the perfect head shave. It is a feature-packed shaver that’s not only easy to hold but also follows the contour of the head well.
Want to know more about how you can shave your head and how to maintain your dome? We have your back! Feel free to comment below on why you want to achieve a bald look and whether or not you’ve tried it before.

February 14: Saint Valentine
Saint Valentine, officially known as Saint Valentine of Rome, is a third-century Roman saint widely celebrated on February 14 and commonly associated with "courtly love."
Although not much of St. Valentine's life is reliably known, and whether or not the stories involve two different saints by the same name is also not officially decided, it is highly agreed that St. Valentine was martyred and then buried on the Via Flaminia to the north of Rome.
In 1969, the Roman Catholic Church removed St. Valentine from the General Roman Calendar, because so little is known about him. However, the church still recognizes him as a saint, listing him in the February 14 spot of Roman Martyrolgy.
The legends attributed to the mysterious saint are as inconsistent as the actual identification of the man.
One common story about St. Valentine is that in one point of his life, as the former Bishop of Terni, Narnia and Amelia, he was on house arrest with Judge Asterius. While discussing religion and faith with the Judge, Valentine pledged the validity of Jesus. The judge immediately put Valentine and his faith to the test.
St. Valentine was presented with the judge's blind daughter and told to restore her sight. If he succeeded, the judge vowed to do anything for Valentine. Placing his hands onto her eyes, Valentine restored the child's vision.
Judge Asterius was humbled and obeyed Valentine's requests. Asterius broke all the idols around his house, fasted for three days and became baptized, along with his family and entire 44 member household. The now faithful judge then freed all of his Christian inmates.
St. Valentine was later arrested again for continuing to try to convert people to Christianity. He was sent to Rome under the emperor Claudius Gothicus (Claudius II). According to the popular hagiographical identity, and what is believed to be the first representation of St. Valentine, the Nuremberg Chronicle, St. Valentine was a Roman priest martyred during Claudius' reign. The story tells that St. Valentine was imprisoned for marrying Christian couples and aiding Christians being persecuted by Claudius in Rome. Both acts were considered serious crimes. A relationship between the saint and emperor began to grow, until Valentine attempted to convince Claudius of Christianity. Claudius became raged and sentenced Valentine to death, commanding him to renounce his faith or be beaten with clubs and beheaded.
St. Valentine refused to renounce his faith and Christianity and was executed outside the Flaminian Gate on February 14, 269. However, other tales of St. Valentine's life claim he was executed either in the year 269, 270, 273 or 280. Other depictions of St. Valentine's arrests tell that he secretly married couples so husbands wouldn't have to go to war. Another variation of the legend of St. Valentine says he refused to sacrifice to pagan gods, was imprisoned and while imprisoned he healed the jailer's blind daughter. On the day of his execution, he left the girl a note signed, "Your Valentine."
Pope Julius I is said to have built a church near Ponte Mole in his memory, which for a long time gave name to the gate now called Porta del Popolo, formerly, Porta Valetini.
The romantic nature of Valentine's Day may have derived during the Middle Ages, when it was believed that birds paired couples in mid-February. According to English 18th-century antiquarians Alban Butler and Francis Douce, Valentine's Day was most likely created to overpower the pagan holiday, Lupercalia.
Although the exact origin of the holiday is not widely agreed upon, it is widely recognized as a day for love, devotion and romance.
Whoever he was, Valentine did really exist, because archaeologists have unearthed a Roman catacomb and an ancient church dedicated to St. Valentine. In 496 AD Pope Gelasius marked February 14th as a celebration in honor of his martyrdom.
Relics of St. Valentine can be found all over the world. A flower-crowned skull of St. Valentine can be found in the Basilica of Santa Maria in Cosmedin, Rome. In 1836, other relics were exhumed from the catacombs of Saint Hippolytus on the Via Tiburtina and were identified as Valentine's. These were transported for a special Mass dedicated to those young and in love.
Fr. John Spratt received a gift from Pope Gregory XVI in 1836 contianing a "small vessel tinged" with St. Valentine's blood. This gift now stands placed in Whitefriar Street Church in Dublin, Ireland.
Other alleged relics were found in Prague in the Church of St Peter and Paul at Vysehrad; in the parish church of St. Mary's Assumption in Chelmno Poland; at the reliquary of Roquemaure in France; in the Stephansdom in Vienna; in Balzan in Malta and also in Blessed John Duns Scotus' church in the Gorbals area of Glasgow, Scotland.
St. Valentine is the Patron Saint of affianced couples, bee keepers, engaged couples, epilepsy, fainting, greetings, happy marriages, love, lovers, plague, travellers, and young people. He is represented in pictures with birds and roses and his feast day is celebrated on February 14.

concubine/sleeper agent!wwx and prince!lwj bullshit continues:
[story board 1] -  The two empires and the Imperial Lan Family [story board 2] -  WWX, Qishan Wen’s sleeper agent   [story board 3] -  The inner court (harem) of Hanguang Manor, prior to WWX
→ [Story Board 4] - “A-Xian”, the attendant of Jiang Yanli
Wei Wuxian lived with the Jiangs for 2 years. After he came to Gusu as a 16-yro, he charmed/scammed his way into the Jiang manor, won the favour of Jiang Fengmian, the affection of Jiang Yanli and Jiang Cheng, and waited.  For a long time, no further instructions were given to him from Wen Ruohan. Then, one day, he saw Zhao Zhuliu on the streets of the Capital. Zhao Zhuliu was the head of Wen Ruohan’s intelligence bureau and incidentally, was also Wei Wuxian and Xue Yang’s shifu.
— “Shifu, does bixia finally have an assignment for me?”  — “He does. Jiang Yanli is set to marry Lan Wangji. You are to find a way to accompany her to Hanguang-fu and get close to him.”  — “Close to him as in...?”  — “Any means necessary. He has a harem already, so you will not be the only one vying for his attention. Do think you can handle it?”  — “Well I don’t know, shifu,” responded WWX coyly. “ Word on the street is that this Hanguang-wang prefers pretty men. His ce-wangfu Jin Ziyan is famous for his handsomeness, and that mianshou Mo Xuanyu he keeps around is a looker too. Do you think I’ve grown pretty enough?” — “You seem very aware of his household, I’m surprised.”  — “Bixia sent me here to observe and learn; I’ve not been idle.”
Wei Wuxian knew Jiang Yanli was set to marry Lan Wangji before she even knew herself. This was not a coincidence. Originally, three years ago, when Lan Wangji was first choosing members of his harem, Jiang Yanli had been considered, but at the time Jiang Yanli and Jin Zixuan were already engaged to be wed. Jin Zixuan had promised Jiang Yanli that as soon as he passed the imperial scholarly exam and secured a position for himself in His Majesty’s court based on his own merit and not on the influence of his father Jin-guogong (Duke Jin), that he and Yanli would marry. It was a marriage that his late mother had arranged with her best friend Yu Ziyuan, and both Yanli and Zixuan were amenable to it. However, when Jin Zixuan finally passed the exam and ranked 6th in the national polling, he chose to take a position far away from the capital and left without a word of affirmation regarding the engagement. The position was an important one given to Jin Zixuan by Emperor Lan Xichen himself and so in some ways, it was understandable that he could not refused. After Jin Zixuan left the capital, Jin Guangshan went to his “old friend” Jiang Fengmian and “apologized” profusely on his son’s behalf, spewing all sorts of words about how a young man ought to make his way in this world and such. However, this left the Jiangs in an awkward position. Jiang Yanli was 21 yrs old, already older than any unwed noble lady should be. The Jiangs were angry with this outcome, but given the politics of it, they could not say much...and that was when Lianfang-jun Meng Yao revisited an idea that had been put aside three years ago. — “Hanguang-wang...desires to marry A-Li?” Jiang Fengmian was somewhat flabbergasted. “But...” — Meng Yao smiled, “Jiang-houye*, three years ago I came on behalf of er-di to broker a marriage between our two families, but you and Yu-furen both refused on account of her engagement with Jin-xiao-gongye. But I must say ling’ai* is a fine young woman, eloquent and mild-mannered and would make a fine wangfei* some day.” — “Wangfei? but -” — “Yes, Hanguang-wang did say he would choose his own princess or prince consort, but as you can see, even with Jin Ziyan as he ce-wangfu, Qin-fu’ren and Luo-fu’ren at his side, our prince has not shown any desire for any of them to be his legal spouse. He is still waiting, searching, and who’s to say Jiang-gu’niang is not equal if not better than the lot of them?”
What the Jiangs didn’t know was that Jin Guangshan was a traitor and had already sold his loyalty to Wen Ruohan, who promised him to make him a fanwang* when Qishan eventually annexed Gusu. JGS was a mole inside Gusu’s government secretly helping to further Wen Ruohan’s agenda. Nevertheless, Wen Ruohan wanted Wei Wuxian to get close to Lan Wangji, because as helpful as Jin Guangshan was, he was never fully trusted by the royal family and did not know their inner workings. Breaking Jiang Yanli’s marriage with Jin Zixuan was just a matter of convenience. Jin Guangshan was not fussed regarding a simple marriage when the reward would be much greater. As per WRH’s instruction, he used his influences in court to maneuver Lan Xichen into giving Jin Zixuan a position far away from the capital, thus removing his son from the dangerous political atmosphere and freeing up Jiang Yanli as a potential concubine for Lan Wangji. Then, Jin Guangshan sat back and allowed Meng Yao to finish the game that he started. Meng Yao was not a willing participant. He loved Lan Xichen and Nie Mingjue but Jin Guangshan held the secret to his past and thus a noose around his neck. Everyone in court knew that Lianfang-jun Meng Yao was once a lieutenant in Nie Mingjue’s army and later became his personal secretary. He was known for his wit and silver tongue and the charming dimples on his cheeks whenever he smiled. However, not many knew that Meng Yao was the bastard son of Jin Guangshan and a prostitute. Meng Shi’s hope was that one day her son would be legitimized by his father, but alas her hopes were in vain. A child born to a whore would be condemned to a live in the “jian” caste unless otherwise freed. It was Nie Mingjue who chose to raise Meng Yao above his station and respected him as a person for the first time in his life. When Nie Mingjue and his long-time sweetheart the crown prince Lan Xichen were set to marry, Meng Yao thought his days of freedom would be over. To his surprise, Nie Mingjue opted to bring him back with him from the borderlands where Nie Mingjue’s battalion was stationed and introduce him to court and to Lan Xichen. It seemed almost impossible that Lan Xichen would love him as unapologetically as Nie Mingjue, but somehow he did. Meng Yao became the only concubine person in Lan Xichen’s harem other than Fengjun Nie Mingjue. Life was perfect, so perfect in fact Meng Yao even entertained the idea of coaxing Lan Xichen to take on a lady or two to be his concubine so that the palace could be filled with little ones. Of course he’d be a little jealous...but they would have children...and Lan Xichen loved babies.  Then of course, Jin Guangshan found out who he was, and from that point on, Meng Yao was no longer a free man. Every single moment of his life, his father threatened him with exposure. If anyone were to find out just how unseemly his origin had been, how not only was his mother a prostitute, but he himself had been nearly no different (given to the Nies as a gift by a stupid pandering official), his life would be over. At the very least Lan Xichen would be forced to banish him, at the worst, he’d be dead. Oh there would be no public announcement of course, but it would be said that he had taken ill and succumbed to his frail health, and with his death the smear on the Lan imperial family would be cleansed.  Meng Yao didn’t want to die, so he did as Jin Guangshan asked, even when the ask became Nie Mingjue’s life. (But NMJ isn’t really dead...Meng Yao was nothing if not a fighter. He could not let the father who’d cursed him to a less than hellish existence take away from him the first man who’d ever shown him love and kindness.)   — “Jiang Yanli must marry Lan Wangji.” Jin Guangshan instructed. “And you must ensure that when she does, the boy goes with her.”   — “What boy?”  — “The ward of Jiang Fengmian: Wei Wuxian.”
So when Meng Yao came to speak with Jiang Fengmian and Yu Ziyuan, naturally he brought up the subject of Lan Wangji’s “preference.”  “The Qin family did very well in this regard. They were quite clever in allowing Mo Xuanyu to serve Hanguang-wang; the boy is too low-born to be of any threat. Even if Hanguang-wang’s harem of today becomes the imperial harem of tomorrow, Mo Xuanyu would not be more than a mianshou. His success, on the other hand, would ensure that Hanguang-wang’s favour stay with the Qin family. As we can see, their effort was not in vain. Qin Su became with child rather swiftly. Little Kaisong was born more no later than three months after Jingyi.” Meng Yao explained the delicate nature of the situation to the Jiangs. “If Jiang-guniang is to marry Hanguang-wang, forgive me for my boldness, but she would be wise to bring a male attendant of her own. Wangji is kind and would honour her as his concubine, but the man cannot control his inclinations, as none of us could.”  Yu Ziyuan exchanged a look with Jiang Fengmian. Yanli was older now; waiting for Jin Zixuan to keep his promise had delayed her and possibly ruined her prospects. If this marriage to Lan Wangji were to succeed... he is an honourable man who treated all his concubines equally and with respect. If he grew to like Yanli enough to make her his legal spouse as Meng Yao seemed to think is possible...then one day she would be Empress.  — “Hanguang-wang’s preference is men. Would he not prefer to have a wangfu instead of a wangfei?” Jiang Fengmian was still hesitant.  — “Indeed I’m sure he would, but politics being what it is...” Meng Yao sighed. “I’m sure Wangji understands that having the mother of his heir be his wangfei and his future empress is the best course of action to ensure the stability of the nation. We certainly have no shortage of examples to learn from in history: a shuchu prince with competing shuchu brothers walks a perilous road.”  — “Lianfang-jun is wise.” Yu Ziyuan nudged her husband. “Which young man do you suggest we include in the bridal party?”  — “That I have not decided, which is why I’ve come to see you today. Jiang-fu is a large manor, surely there must be some servants worthy to catch the eye of our Hanguang-wang. Yu-fu’ren, why don’t you assemble them, and we can have a pick?”  — “Lianfang-jun, that is a delightful idea.”
Wei Wuxian was not surprised at all when all the young men of Jiang-fu under 21 and above 16 were assembled in a courtyard. He scanned the crowd; there were about 20-ish of them. One by one, they were beckoned forward, and when it was his turn, he walked with his head bowed towards the man sitting under the eave on a luxurious wicker chair, holding a fan. The fan was very expensive, drawn by an artist in the previous dynasty. An antique. This must be Zewu-di’s* only concubine, Meng Yao.  — “Greetings to Lianfang-jun.”  — “Raise your head, boy, let me take a good look at you.”  — Wei Wuxian obeyed. Meng Yao looked him over once, appraising and evaluating, before making a pleased little noise. “Hm. Your name?” —  “Wei Wuxian.”  —  “Wei...Wuxian?” Meng Yao gave a pretty laugh. “A rather boastful name for so young a person. My, but you are a lovely thing. Tell me, what is your age?”  —  “Eighteen.”   —  “Eighteen, excellent. It’s unfortunate that your name isn’t something a little more humble. What does your family call you?” —  “My family calls me A-Xian, dianxia.” — “Well A-Xian, if I were to tell you that you’ve been chosen to accompany Jiang-gu’niang to serve Hanguang-wang, what say you?”  — WWX thought *I’d say Lan Wangji better sleep with one eye open*, but said with a gracious and deferring bow of his head, “That would be my honour.”

Hidden Trespasser mosaics
Tumblr media
So I was researching some lore for a theory surrounding the environmental artwork in DAI, and happened to stumble upon this twitter post regarding unused mosaics for Trespasser.
Coincidentally, I’ve been so deep in statues and elven god symbolism the past few days that I thought I’d chime in with some of my own thoughts.
From left to right in these artworks, I think we’re looking at four different gods involved in Solas’ slave rebellion.
Fen’Harel, Dirthamen/Falon’Din, Andruil, Mythal
===
If this hidden game file is anything to go by, it seems to confirm one theory I’ve had for a while- that Solas had help from some of the evanuris with his slave rebellion.
Because when you think about it, it’s kinda hard to believe he could have started a slave rebellion at all with his high profile and attachment to Mythal, especially when slaves seems to have been a big economy in ancient Elvhenan.
===
The gods in these mosaics
From left to right in the image
(Note: I actually posted some hi-res shots of the masks from DAO yesterday if you’re interested in seeing unedited screenshots, but I’ll break down my guesses here anyway.)
1. Fen’Harel is obviously the wolf.
2. Dirthamen’s mask is easiest to spot because it matches the shape of his statues in DAO. Note that Dirthamen and Falon’Din have very similar statues and masks.
Tumblr media
Falon’Din is the statue with the spear (recognised by Tamlen as “friend of the dead”) while I believe Dirthamen is the statue with four arms (this also strongly implies the envy demon in DAI is his corrupted raven, Deceit)
I believe Falon’Din and Dirthamen are two aspects of the same being, but how that actually works remains to be seen. Some people have suggested Falon’Din walks the fade while Dirthamen walks the physical realm and perhaps that explains their togetherness and separateness.
Regardless, it does seem like both Falon’Din and Dirthamen were involved in Solas’ uprising due to the fact that both their mosaics are found inside the elven sanctuary before we see Solas’ mural removing vallaslin.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3. Andruil’s mask seems to fit most similarly to the third mosaic.
The overall curved shape mirrors Andruil’s bow in her mosaic, and the dotted indentation at the top totally looks like an arrow shaft. The eye placement in both the mosaic and the mask hints to me that this is very likely Andruil.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The big question- why would Andruil be helping Solas?
Perhaps because Mythal turned her to their side after she “sapped Andruil's strength, and stole her knowledge of how to find the Void.”
Or, perhaps Andruil isn’t as “evil” as people think she is.
Sure, she may have brought on the blight (although even this is conjecture, personally I feel like this could very well could be misdirection) and may have hunted “mortal men and beasts”, but who’s to say these beasts and men didn’t deserve what they got? Who’s to say she wasn’t corrupted by the void before she became the “goddess of sacrifice”?
One day Andruil grew tired of hunting mortal men and beasts. She began stalking The Forgotten Ones, wicked things that thrive in the abyss.
This implies to me she could have simply been hunting beings that had given her cause to hunt them. Remember, she was the only god that responded to Ghilan’nain’s cries for help, and at this time Ghilan’nain was one of the People, implying she wasn’t totally evil.
Andruil also has strong links to Falon’Din, because she and Falon’Din share the same symbol of the owl. What if Mythal meted out judgement, Falon’Din brought her judgement to them in the form of the owl (thus fulfilling the role of Andruil’s messenger as well as “friend of the dead”), and Andruil hunted them in turn to render Mythal’s judgement?
“Always keep an eye out for the noble owl. You never know: Andruil might have a message for you.”
It is interesting to see that the owl statue is always carrying what looks like a mirror or even dimension to another world (another prison perhaps?), possibly intended as a way to reflect the viewer’s own self and actions back on to them.
Anyway, to me there are a number of possibilities why Andruil would work with Solas and co. Perhaps she wasn’t as corrupted as they thought. Perhaps Mythal made her forget so much so she agreed to help them. Or perhaps Andruil was the mole in the rebellion - the person who began the events that led to Mythal’s death.
4. I think the last god represents Mythal, due to the fact the shape is similar to the bronze statues found in the crossroads and deep roads.
Tumblr media
There are in fact two versions of this statue - the sun, in the crossroads, and the moon in the deep roads. (brightened and contrast boosted for clarity)
Tumblr media
The moon statue is strongly implied to represent Mythal, because a note is found near this statue:
These statues are old. Better shape than anything I've seen on the surface. Many of them are for Mythal, though. And Fen'Harel. Not in a spot of honor, but guarding, attending.
Question is, why would the sun also represent Mythal when Elgar’nan is known as the Eldest of the sun?
Well, not only does the sun statue look very much the yin to the yang of the moon statue in the deep roads, the sun could refer to Mythal being both the sun and moon to the dwarves.
These statues are notably different to other elven statues we’ve seen- notable for the fact they have a large base of rock, and they are carved in smooth bronze.  As these bronze statues are only found in this particular section of the deep roads where she controlled a lyrium wellspring, perhaps the dwarves carved these as a representation of her.
In the third note you find in the deep roads, a poem reads:
I am empty, filled with nothing(?), Mythal gives you dreams. It fills you, within you(?), Making our leaders proud. My little stones, Never yours the sun. Forever, forever.
It sure seems to me like Mythal was protecting these dwarves from something. Either that, or she was using these dwarves as slaves or minions in her operation and for some reason, they revered her enough to carve their own representations of her.
Morrigan says this of Mythal at the Temple of Mythal:
Let fly your voice to Mythal, deliverer of justice, protector of sun and earth alike.’
Similarly, Solas further says:
She was the mother,  protective and fierce.
Regardless, I think there’s more evidence indicating Mythal was working with Solas over Elgar’nan. You do need Mythal’s passphrase after all to enter the elven sanctuary safely.
Tumblr media
And if you want to take this one step further, check out the crown “Andraste” is wearing in DAO. Look familiar??? Maybe reminscent of the moon statue we see in the deep roads?
I don’t want to say Mythal was Andraste but...there are many signs that are hard to ignore.
===
More theory drabble
I realise a lot of the gods’ motives I’ve come up with above are based on conjecture and tbh, the writing for DA4 could go so many ways simply because of the fact that there are so many wide open threads that could be expanded upon.
These unused mosaics does indicate to me at least that the writers have a plan for how Solas’ rebellion actually functioned however, and that to me is exciting in itself.
One thing we can assume with high certainty is that Solas started the slave rebellion before Mythal’s death, because you need her passphrase to enter his sanctuary. Furthermore, even without these unused mosaics there are in-game mosaics of Dirthamen and Falon’Din in the sanctuary before we see the vallaslin mural.
This strongly implies to me that at the very least, even without this hidden game file, that Dirthamen, Falon’Din and Mythal aided and abetted Solas’ slave rebellion.
Further adding to this theory are the the rather compelling links to Dirthamen throughout DAI. For example, the gilded Fen’Harel statues in Dirthamen’s temple’s inner sanctum, Dirthamen’s bleeding statue in the Fade, Dirthamen, Falon’Din, Mythal and Fen’Harel imagery in the Knight’s Tomb, as well as Dirthamen’s statue at Calenhad’s foothold (where it’s implied he had a thing with Ghilan’nain). Not to mention- dual raven standards found underneath Fen’Harel’s sanctuary, as well as archer statues next to the eluvian as you exit (who I believe represent Dirthamen & Falon’Din).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Something clearly happened that led to Mythal’s death, and I’m leaning towards the fact that there was a leak somewhere within Solas’ trusted circle. Dirthamen seems to have been betrayed by someone close to him before the veil was created, because his statue in the fade is stabbed in the back and his eyes are weeping waterfalls of blood.
Tumblr media
As Solas says “...an enemy can attack, but only an ally can betray you. Betrayal is always worse.”
And, when you tell him you trust your friends? He responds “I know that mistake well enough to carve the angles of her face from memory”
It is assumed he is talking about Mythal’s own betrayal when he says this, but he could also be referring to the person/people who betrayed him and his trust. Personally, I think Falon’Din and Ghilan’nain could be key players in Mythal’s death at this point. We don’t know enough about the other gods to also make assumptions on their motives unfortunately.
All in all, it seems to me like every one of the false gods were out to get one another, and Solas never even saw Mythal’s death coming because he was too arrogant/preoccupied with his rebellion.
If Solas really was Mythal’s oldest friend and guardian, his pride would have been absolutely crushed when she was betrayed and killed. The veil was likely a knee-jerk reaction due to his pride and “hot-headedness” more than anything- if he could be outplayed and have his own power and role as “guardian” outright questioned, then of course he would retaliate and raise the stakes even higher. It’s his MO- he has a means to an ends “you didn’t invent war” mentality, disregarding the collateral damage as long as he comes out on top.
This does make me wonder what intentions he has for the false gods once they’re freed though. Obviously Mythal wants her vengeance. But what of Solas? These false gods were his kin after all and the only ones who can truly relate to him on a level no mortal can understand. After all these years of stewing and realising his knee-jerk reaction cost him the entire elven empire, it makes sense he would want to restore what he effectively destroyed when his pride was hurt.
To me it does seem like he truly hates the evanuris...but could he still be in leagues with some of them? Something I may not put past him, considering I don’t think he worked alone during his rebellion.

Ronnie: Hey, honey. At the store picking up some things. Anything you want for dinner?
Y/N: Oh, babe, you read my mind. I would love some ice cream, chocolate sauce, cherries, the works… oh, and pickles!
Ronnie: LOL. Okay whatever you and my lil’ pumpkin want. I’ll be home in a little bit.
Y/N: We love you, daddy!
---------------
You put the phone down to adjust your body on the couch, the further along you were getting, the harder it was to feel comfortable, let alone pretty. But Ronnie never failed to make you the happiest woman in the entire world. Always asking what you needed, rubbing every inch of your body when it ached, running baths to soothe you and your growing little one, and fucking you whenever you had the rush to eat him alive.
He always went out and got whatever you needed, even if it meant waking up from a dead sleep at four in the morning all because ‘the baby’ wanted some black olives that seemed to be missing from the pantry. He was so selfless that way and in every way. You thanked whatever entity over and over again that he and you had met at the diner that one day. Both ordering the same cheeseburger and milkshake for lunch, sitting across the way, shooting glances as his mouth devoured the meat like the carnivore he was, and then proceeding to do the same to you in his smart car not even thirty minutes later.
The both of you were inseparable at that point. Loving the same things, watching the same shows, eating the same foods. It was kismet in every single sense of the word and even more so when you found out that a carbon copy of you both was on the way.
You sat there, contemplating the last year, waiting for your knight in shining armor to arrive home with the good stuff, rubbing your protruding belly as your little girl flailed around like the deviant she was.
“I know sweetie,” you whispered to your bump, “daddy will be home in a little while,” glancing up as you heard the key turn in the lock.
“Hey, there ladies,” your grinning husband beamed as he saw you cuddled up on the couch waiting for him, “how’s my favorite girls?” he put the paper sack down and knelt between your legs, pulling your face to him with his large hands, kissing you with the sweetest effort he could muster.
“We’re good daddy,” you grinned, grabbing his face in your hands, rubbing your thumbs along his shaven cheeks, admiring his soft pouted lips, “we missed you today.”
He sighed, bringing his hands to meet your bump, rubbing it to get his daughter’s attention, “I missed you girls too,” bending his head down to meet your clothed skin, kissing the baby, “So. Much.”
A series of flutters hit his hands as your daughter squirmed at his honeyed voice, “I think we’re slightly hungry, huh, baby girl,” he laughed as he felt more kicks pummel his fingers.
“God, yes we are,” you whined as he got up to pick up the sack and bring it to the kitchen, “comin’ right up ladies,” he smiled grabbing the stuff out of the bag and chuckling at your excitement when bringing the jar of dill pickles and a fork your way.
He kissed your forehead after taking the food, “I’m gonna make our sundaes after I get changed, okay honey?”
“Ronnie, I can make the food,” you said struggling to lift your body from your spot.
“Woah there mama,” he pushed you and your pickles back on the plush sofa, “I can do it. How about you queue up the show and put your feet up. I’ll rub ‘em when I sit down.”
“Honey I really wan-,”
“No,” he scolded, “you and my daughter relax while I get the menial tasks done that you shouldn’t bother yourself with. You’re the one doin’ all the hard work after all,” he grinned again, his glasses moving up his perfectly chiseled nose, displaying his precious dimples.
You prayed that your little girl would get those perfect features of his. The ambered eyes, the dark hair, the moles that littered his body. He was too damn perfect.
“Okay honey,” you sat back, balancing the jar on your belly as you shoved one pickle down your throat, rolling your eyes back into your head at the satisfaction of sustenance. He chuckled again, padding upstairs to change into more comfortable clothes as you got your weekly show ready for viewing.
He made his way down after changing into a pair of black joggers, and a grey t-shirt, the sight of him hopping down the stairs causing a warmth to radiate through your pussy. After a few minutes of cabinet opening, and fridge closing, he came into the room armed with the majestic concoctions he’d created for the both of you, grinning ear to ear at the sight of your doe eyes twinkling at the food.
“Babe,” you looked at him, “I love you so much, this looks amazing!”
“I thought you’d like all the fixings,” he grinned even wider, sitting down and handing your special sundae to which you located where the pickle jar had been.
He situated himself with an arm around you, and the sundae on his thigh, lifting the blanket you’d had over him so he could scoot even closer. After some rearranging, you pressed play on the show you’d decided on and devoured your ice cream as if you’d never had any your entire life.
Half an hour in you held the empty bowl, thinking about sitting up to put it on the coffee table. You started to strain up to put it there, when Ronnie noticed your movements before you could even put them to action, “honey, here,” gesturing his large hand to which you placed it in and he did the deed for you.
Sitting back after putting both bowls down, he threw his arm back around your shoulder, and the other to meet your belly, rubbing the spot as you laid your head between his neck. He looked down at the scene before him, smiling and kissing your crown, taking in the jasmine-scented shampoo that emanated from your gorgeous hair. Grinning yet again as he saw his unborn daughter writhe under his touch.
His eyes wandered to your plunging cleavage, where a stream of chocolate sauce had found its home. His eyes widened at the glimmer from it, thinking of how he’d love to cover you head to toe in the mixture and lick every single bit of it from your perfect skin. His loose cock straining in his joggers as he became restless at the thought of bending you over the couch and stuffing you fuller than you already were of him.
“Babe?” you looked up at his lust-blown eyes behind his glasses, “are you okay?” running your hand to brush his painful erection.
“What’s going on?” looking at him with concern, “do you need something?”
“Honey,” he calmly stared into your eyes, “I need to do something,” his lips fell into a pout.
“Okay?” you gestured, “what is it?”
“I need to fuck you,” he matter of factly said, gripping your belly with his hand.
Your lower stomach twisted in a knot, “o-okay babe, that’s fine with me,” you chuckled at his desperation.
“But I need to cover you,” he moved his hand to plunge in between your tits, the motion causing a gasp to leave your mouth, “with chocolate sauce,” he said showing you the amount that had found its way there in the first place.
You were fully on fire at this point, willing to let him cover you in anything he wanted to get him to fuck you good and hard.
“Get the bottle,” you gripped his forearm, pleading him to wreck you.
He jumped from the couch and ran to the kitchen to grab the large bottle of sauce, grinning like a fucking kid in a candy store. In the time he had grabbed it and run back, you were already completely undressed and sat upon the edge of the couch, tits, and belly protruding out as you arched your back towards him.
“Fuck, honey,” he beamed at your changed body, opening the bottle to drip it on your delicate skin, “you look fucking delicious,” watching the cascade of sweetness drip into the crevices of your breasts.
You sat there, completely dazed as your husband painted a mural on your tits, musing as he watched the chocolate cover your engorged peaches.
“Perfect,” he marveled, capping the bottle and setting it on the coffee table. He made quick to remove his shirt, displaying his thick body to which you shuddered at the sight.
“Suck my fuckin’ tits babe,” you mewled, falling to pieces as he brought his lips to your aching buds, sucking the life out of them as he situated himself between your legs kneeling before you on the couch again. His hands caressing your luscious pregnant curves, rubbing the sauce all over his face and your jugs.
“These fuckin’ tits,” he moaned, “they’re gonna be the death of me, honey,” removing his glasses as he devoured them, leaving no trace of chocolate as he finished his work.
He gazed at your blissed-out face, taking in the sounds you made and the way your lips parted as he made you fall apart over his gestures. His hand wandered down to your heat, feeling the wetness seeping out of your weeping cunt for him.
“So fuckin’ delicious,” he groaned, rubbing the skin with his middle finger.
“I want you to ride me, honey,” he begged with golden eyes.
You of course couldn’t resist his puppy dog pleading and made him lay back on the couch like the good boy he was.
“Take your pants of babe,” helping him undo his joggers as his large cock sprung free from its cage. Grabbing it in your soft hands and pumping it as he guided you onto his lap, your juicy thighs straddling either side of him. You let him help you guide your pussy to his tip, settling down as the shaft was covered by your walls as you sank down.
“Fuck, Ronnie,” you whined out, feeling every inch of him touch your fluttering pussy, “you make me feel so damn full babe.”
Undulating your hips on his lap, his hands gripping your sides with a bruising touch, rocking you back and forth on his body.
“Yeah, honey?” he panted, “you like bein’ all full of me don’t you?”
Thrusting up into your cunt, knocking on your tight cervix, releasing a piercing moan from your open mouth.
“Goddammit!” you screamed speeding up your motions, “I fucking love it so much!”
Your tits bouncing at his gyrations, your belly on display, it was almost too much for your poor husband. Your walls began to clench around him, signaling your orgasm, to which he moved his left hand down towards your throbbing clit. Rubbing tight little circles as he watched you unravel in front of him for the millionth time that night.
“That’s it, honey,” he growled, “fucking cum all over my cock. You know you want to.”
Watching your face look down at him, screaming for release, “I wanna cum on your big cock babe!”
“Fuck Y/N,” his eyes went wide as your pussy released its sweet nectar, causing his pulsations to quicken.
“I’m gonna fuckin’ fill you up,” he gritted his teeth as you were rag-dolled on his thighs, sweat beading up on his forehead as he watched you grip your aching tits whining and moaning like a whore on his thick cock splitting you in half.
“Stuff me full babe!” you cried out, rubbing your sensitive nipples, as he slammed your hips harder with his. He let out a feral growl as his dick twitched inside you, releasing his potent seed into your sopping hole. He pumped up and down slowly, watching the mixture began to seep out, only to have this bright red cock push it back in with a squelch and a groan.
You both took some deep breaths, stilled in position, still gripping your tits as his hands left your hips to grip your bump, “you girls okay?” coming out of his haze in concern.
“Yes babe,” you laughed moving to get off his lap to be more comfortable, “we’re just fine, I promise,” patting his blushing chest as he tried to control his pulse while helping you get into position. He sat up, grabbing your t-shirt from the ground as well as his, helping you place it back on, kissing every inch of your face and neck as he did so.
“I love you, Y/N,” he grinned, pulling your face to his in a searing kiss as your fingers found his loose strands, pushing them back as your tongues danced over each other.
You pulled off, gazing into the swirl of his ambered eyes, still petting the baby hairs that had stuck to his face, “I love you too babe.”
At that moment, your daughter made her presence known again, sandwiched in between your sweat covered bodies. Ronnie brought his large hand to meet your over your belly, “she’s gonna be mad at us all night now, huh?” he laughed, rubbing on the spot where her little foot was poking in and out.
“Ya,” you agreed, “I’m gonna be up all night with her I think,” putting your other hand over his and kissing his cheek as you both sat back into the embrace of the couch.
Leaning down to press his lips to your bump, “pumpkin you’d better not give your mama any grief tonight,” he pecked a few times, rubbing his thumb over the flutters erupting, “she needs to sleep just as much as you do baby girl.”
Your hands rubbed the back of his head as he nuzzled on your belly, cradling it as he shushed your squirming little one. The sounds of his hushing lulling you to sleep in the light of the tv playing the show you’d both been neglecting.
After a few minutes of rubbing and cooing, he lifted his head to look at your sleeping form, admiring the way your face looked so peaceful in the white light of the tv. He kissed your forehead, gripping under your knees and back, lifting your dead weight into his hulking body. He sauntered up the stairs, carefully moving you out of the way of sharp objects and corners as he found your shared bedroom. He placed you gently on the bed, making sure you were on your side, and grabbed the body pillow you’d worn out over the last few months of its purchase.
He placed it just so it supported the baby, and your aching body, watching as you closed in on its plushness, sighing in relief when you’d relaxed on it. He stared in the dim light of your bedside lamp in total adoration of you, noticing the baby moving in your body as you quietly snored.
He bent down once more to kiss the appendage poking out, “go to sleep baby girl,” he whispered on your skin, “mama and I love you to the moon and back, pumpkin,” kissing it again and then moving up to you.
“Goodnight honey,” he whispered into your ear, kissing it at softly as he possibly could, “I love you more than life itself.”
He switched the lamp off, and slid into his side of the bed, enveloping himself around you, cradling his baby. Letting out a heavy sigh as he let the sweet sounds of your snores lull him to sleep.

Bearable | A Reddie Fanfiction
Read it from the beginning
Chapter 8.5
The sound of the lock tumblers rolled shut in an almost satisfying timbre- it told Stan, in finality, that his shift was up and it was time for him to go home, that Roses on Deane had carried him through one more evening and was now seeing him off, waiting for his next return the night after. Taking a step back after removing the key from the door, Stanley glanced left at the sign reading 'closed' hung daintily from a hook just above the glass window. The red LED plant lights inside still shone in the dark corners, eerie yet comforting. With a slow inhale and then a clipped exhale, Stan spun on his heel, hitching his courier bag more securely over his neck and shoulder and setting off for home. The Portland streets were dark, the clock reading just late of 10:00 pm, thick clouds coating the sky and blotting out the stars. Keeping his gaze set forwards, Stan settled into a brisk walk, a bouncing pace that was more than familiar to him by now- even though he was no longer hurrying to evade bullies, the habit of being quick and silent stuck to him like a welcome burr. It wasn't necessarily a bad habit to be in, was it?
As he walked, closer and closer to home by the step, he busied himself in scanning the buildings, the businesses, attempting to identify the plants lining the streets with his new and limited botanical knowledge. A pale terracotta pot overflowing with rippling sunshine-yellow marigolds sat on the front porch of a thrift store, and then a few doors down outside of a place selling home-sewn fashion were bunches of hydrangeas, pink, purple and a pale blue. Petunias outside of a laundromat, bright pink begonias marking the entrance to an ice cream parlor with a large sign saying it was closing for the winter- distractions distractions. Stan heard a whip-poor-will sing it's little nighttime song somewhere behind him and found himself smiling warmly, almost instinctively reaching towards his back pocket for his bird book before realizing he didn't carry it with him anymore and letting that smile fall again. A shiver ran it's course up and down his spine for a reason he wasn't certain of. Suddenly he felt uncomfortable, shifty, the hairs on the back of his neck standing on end and a frown crawling over his face. Walking a little quicker, Stan crossed his arms over his chest and lowered his head as if that would hide him from anyone or anything that might cross his path. Distractions distractions. Birds and flowers.
Warblers, Alstroemerias, Common Loon, Lilies, to busy his mind Stan went over all of the Portland-resident birds and all the Roses on Deane-resident flowers, trying to ebb the near-flowing paranoia building in his head. All at once a thought unfurled like one of the colorful flora he was thinking about- Did you really lock the shop door? Stan chewed his lip, clasping his hands together and forcing his legs forwards once more. Yes, he locked the door, he was sure of it- and even if he didn't who was gonna rob a flower shop? He needed to take his OCD medicine the moment he got home. Recently, with work and school, he had started taking it at night. It often wore off by the end of the day, letting silly thoughts like that pop up like moles. More birds, more flowers, less thinking. Northern Goshawk, Carnations, Yellow-Bellied Flycatcher, Daisy. Walk walk walk. Stanley's head was trapped in some strange in-between where one half was racing and the other was sluggish and slow, like molasses- he hated it, the feeling like he couldn't quite register that things were moving to fast. He just wanted to be home with Bill, with Eddie, in his bed or at the stove cooking something up for the three of them. Anything at all- maybe he could clean his room or the lounge or the bathroom- maybe he could offer to do the laundry. Stan shivered again, and another wave of discomfort rippled through him. Birds. Flowers.
Red-Breasted Nuthatch, Orchids, Winter Wren, Orange Princess-
Stan stopped dead in his tracks. All at once, the smell of oranges hit him in the back of the throat. It was sickening, suffocating almost, like the near-toxic, too-sweet taste of children's medicine. He screwed up his face and clenched his jaw, trying to pinpoint where and why that scent had hit him so suddenly. Then, a thought, a realization not driven by his OCD popped into his head and his face drained of it's colour. Now the only thing he could think of was Dick Halloran, a character from The Shining, that stupid horrorbook that Bill had forced him to read. Dick had this power called 'The Shine', see, and whenever something like a premonition or a message from someone else who 'Shone' hit him he smelled this smell, the oranges, overwhelming, tangy, sickening. Every time this scent is mentioned in the book it is a bad thing. Maybe now it is a bad thing. Stanley has to force his legs to move, to carry him again, faster faster faster; he's basically jogging now and he'll turn up home slick with sweat and that means he'll need to shower for much too long but he doesn't mind right now. He might scrub his skin raw later, but right now his sudden nagging fear won over.
Stan had played baseball in elementary and the beginning of high school so he wasn't a terrible runner but he had hardly half the stamina Eddie would have had were he in this situation, despite the bug in his brain he called asthma. It had only been a few moments and Stan, in his panic, had sprinted away his energy; Stanley needed to be smart about it, to conserve his energy, his breath. Something dark and urgent bubbled up in his chest and he knew he needed away. Slowing to a hasty jog Stan focused solely on his breathing and going the right way. Home was closer now, less than three blocks, he could see the building. Gooseflesh broke out over his arms and for the briefest, briefest moment he swore he saw a flash of red lit white by the streetlamps across the street from him, low, on the ground or in the gutter or from a sewer drain. He didn't stick around long enough to be certain. Birds, please. Flowers.
Swainson Thrush, Rose, Rusty Blackbird, Sunflower, White-Throated Sparrow, Peonies, one after the other Stan pumped out name after name until he ran out of flowers and only knew birds; at some point after he started naming any bird, not just the ones here in Portland or even Maine or even the whole of the United States- he was desperate for anything to say, any image to conjure up to replace the fearful ones his brain was fighting to depict. The India Peafowl, or the Peacock more often, was what ended up taking the coveted 'Throne of Distraction'. He knew the bird well and spent a whole thirty seconds imagining every detail about it, the royal blue feathering of it's crown, breast, abdomen, the crisp white of it's auricular and superciliary, the places above and below the eye. They had white-and-back wings that had a total span of five feet and six foot tailfeathers of emerald green, blue, yellow, the shapes of eyes, almost, grand and royal and silently threatening. By the time he forgot about the peacock he was crossing the street towards his block and his lungs were protesting greatly. His hair was dampened despite the chill in the air and his palms were sweating profusely.
In a burst of confidence since he was now faced with the homestretch, Stan risked a look over his shoulder and then immediately hated himself for it. You never look over your shoulder, isn't that what Bill always said about horror movies? Was this even like a horror movie? Which rules were real and which were fiction? Which ones applied to real life? Stan snapped his head forwards once more and now he was driven by terror in it's rawest form, cold and sleek like the scales of a snake or the glimmer of a dark poison. His veins burned with this terror, his eyes wide and glossy, his throat pinching up and disallowing a scream. Oh, God, the thing he thought he saw- Eyes, orange, burning like hellfire, promising so many things, horrible, horrible things, a tall man, a shadow-man, something deadly and threatening in the way he stood and the way he held his weapon ready to raise and ready to strike. Stan was quick to smother the sight, the memory of the sight under the heel of his mind's shoe to forget about, to abandon, no-siree he was not crazy he didn't need to go to the loony-bin the funny farm the madhouse he was just okey-dokey all 100% okay yessir.
Birds birds birds flowers oranges grackles grackles marigold- His mind was gone by now, shrouded in some thick fog, out of reach, his soul ripped from his body to view himself in some sick third-person form. Icy numbness ate through him leaving only the terror, the sleek-cold terror as he stumbled onto the doorstep of his building and ripped his key from his bag at lightspeed, scolding himself for not getting it out sooner and then scolding himself again seconds later for fumbling, almost dropping the thing. He jammed them at the door, missed the keyhole, jammed again, missed, again, missed- finally, the keys slid into place and he cranked them to the side, ripping the door open and not even bothering to recollect them. He sent himself flying for the stairs, not trusting the elevator and getting more images from his book, The Shining, the faulty elevator moving on it's own accord, New Years Eve, party poppers, black gold silver people in suits- As Stan raced up the steps he finally found his voice but decided he could not scream, could not alarm anyone else, could not draw any attention. If you asked for help, for salvation, you got people killed and you still got fucked in the end- and, one part of Stan was horrified that none of this was even real.
If Stanley could only make it up to his apartment than he would be alright. He would be just fine. Peachy. Right as rain. The problem was that the stairs seemed to be getting longer, reaching up and up into infinity, a stairway to heaven. Birds Stan needed birds flowers too birds and flowers flowers and birds then he'd be just fine if only he had his bird book, Lincoln's Sparrow Dahlias Purple Finch Azalea White-winged Crossbill Poppy Evening Grosbeak Chrysanthemum Birds Birds Birds Birdsbirdsbirdsbirds-
Stan's mind froze. Everything came to a grinding halt. His hand rests on the brass knob of his apartment, his home, but he does not remember ever reaching the top of the steps, ever rushing down his hallway. The icy chill that had been coursing through his veins was drained all too suddenly, jarringly, leaving him with wide eyes and heavy breathing as well as a sprawling sense of confusion. The... the panic, it had been so raw, so real. The sight of the shadow-man had been so vivid. The sweat on his brow and his back and in his armpits, it was real too- he had been driven into a spiral of terror, but was it in any way possible that Stan had imagined it all? Why, suddenly, did he feel so... alright? Why, just like that, was all of it gone? The dread, the doom, the smell of citrus. Stan wasn't crazy, no, he took pills to stop his crazy, needed to take his pill, needed to make this blinding sense of what?? ease into nothing, needed to return to being just another guy in the sea of other guys in Portland Maine.
Just like that, in the blink of an eye, everything had vanished and he was okay again. Stanley Uris was just fine. Peachy. Right as rain. He might- is probably- just be a little tired. So what? People got tired all the time. All he needed was some sleep and a shower and maybe to scrub his skin right off because this sweat was making him sticky and gross and he hated it. What he needed was to get control of himself. Letting his head fall gently, silently against the door, Stan let his eyes close and tried to even out his breathing. He felt like he was a little bit silly. The shadow man he had been so convinced he'd seen was supposed to have been Jack Torrance, but Jack Torrance was fictional and Stan was just tired. That was all. After two more minutes to control his breathing, he opened the door and made straight for the bathroom. He didn't even stop to note how Eddie and Richie were practically tangled up in one another and sharing a bowl of popcorn.

i'm the bad guy
Summary: Ben and Rey's daughter goes missing. The reader has a dark ending as she then realizes who she is deep down inside.
Pairing: Ben Solo x daughter!reader
Word Count: 1800+
Warnings: Violence (nothing too bad)
Author's Note: Sheesh. Sorry this too so long...
Tumblr media
HIS heart stopped faster that what he could've possibly imagined. He sat in silence and fear as it dwelled over his body.
Rey stood next to him feeling his and her own emotions. She wondered where their beloved daughter could be.
"Where was she last seen?" Ben finally spoke to the palace guards.
"Just outside the palace gates." He paused, "My King, there was a note left in her room next to a dagger covered in blood, saying Ben Solo owes me a life."
Rey eyes slowly grew wide as she touched Ben's shoulder. He knew who it was. What he didn't know is where he would've taken her.
Ben dismissed the guards and order half his troops to search far and wide across Alderaan and other planets.
When the two royals arrived in their chambers, Ben slowly sank down into the bed and tears fell down his face. Rey wiped his cheek and kissed his soft skin and she removed to crown that sat upon his soft wavy hair.
"She's stronger than she looks" Rey encouraged. Although Ben seemed as if he didn't even hear the words that came out of her mouth.
"Something is off. The palace guards would've never let her get close to the palace gates without our consent" Ben trailed off.
"Are you suggesting there is a mole upon our troops?"
"[Y/N] loves to be adventurous, but she wouldn't leave" he thought harder, "and if that was her blood than she wouldn't have been able to make it all the way to the gates with out dying. The palace is ways away from the gates."
"Unless the blood wasn't hers" Rey suggested.
"Or she used the force to heal herself" Ben continued after her.
The two stared at different places of the room.
What really happened?
---
"I didn't know the Princess of Alderaan was so beautiful" the man walked behind your tied down body as he touched your hair gently and slowly crept his hand down your neck.
"What do you want Arius?" [Y/N] questioned firmly and he pulled his hand away.
"Ben Solo, I hate that name. It sounds too heroic."
"Are you suggesting that my father the King of Alderaan is a foolish man?"
"He was leader of the Nights of Ren. Kylo Ren had everything except the feeling of love. That is why he has become Ben Solo." He spat the sentences in [Y/N]'s face. This angered her because she knew her father, the King, was more that a ruined man who's parents have died.
"So why did you want me?"
"When your father first joined the First Order he was thriving in darkness. He had no ounce of pitty or care for anyone. He was absolutely ruthless."
He paused and looked at the wall. You could tell by his facial expressions that he was going into the real details about the story.
"When he was developing the Knights of Ren, he searched different planets to complete his Knights. Although, when he burned down the temple he took some kids with him. That night I was planning with him how we were going to convince other students to join us, he left me there in the fire to die."
Your eyes slightly widen. You wondered if his story was completely true. You know that your father burned the temple and took a handful of students.
"Why didn't he let you go with him?" You asked, breaking the silence.
"Because I wasn't dark enough."
"So what your going to kill me to get back at my father?" You wanted to know the real reason why he took you.
"No" he smiled wickedly then continued, "I heard from a palace guard that your a kind, adventurous, and loving princess. I heard that your so kind that even though your palace guard attacked you and you stabbed him, you healed him."
You wondered where he was going with this.
"Do you want me to do something dark?" You suggested.
"Yes, actually if you truly want to leave and reunite yourself with your family, you'll have to do it on my terms."
"Your terms? Who the hell do you think you are? I am Princess of Alderaan. You are just my pathetic subject who can't seem to get what he wants." You raised your voice in authority. It took you a second to realise what you said but even when it hit you, you didn't want him to see you surprised with your choice of words.
"Me? Pathetic? Look at you! A stupid Princess tied up to a chair!" He mocked. Your body was starting to boil in anger.
"Look at me girl! You will do as I say."
He pulled out a lightsaber from underneath his garments and you could recognize it as Kylo Ren's crossblade.
"What are you going to do with that?" You asked, a bit of shock as to how it has it.
He walked behind you and quickly ignited it and he slashed the ties that held you down. "I won't be doing anything with it," then he walked back in front of you and handed it to you, "you will."
"What do you want me to do with that?"
"I want you to take me back to the Kingdom and I will surrender myself. All I want you to do is take the lightsaber with us."
You frowned. Why would he do all of this just to take him back to Alderaan? Something was sketchy.
"You won't try to kill me on the way there?" You asked the obvious.
"How could I kill you? You will have the lightsaber in your hands."
You decided to take him back to the Kingdom and quickly boarded the ship. You'd rather let the King decide what to do to him.
---
You landed the ship a little ways from the town. And walked behind him to ensure you kept your eyes on him.
As you walked through the town the crowd seemed to recognize you and they bowed in respect.
Although something didn't feel right. You senced something was wrong. Taking him to your Kingdom seemed like a stupid plan.
BLAST
You were shot by Arius and he stood there with his blaster pointed at you. You feel on one knee and yelled in pain. The crowd around you seemed too terrified to watch, so some left to find guards to assist you and other stayed to watch incase you absolutely needed help.
You healed yourself within two seconds and stood back up. You ignited the lightsaber he gave you and its vibrations almost made you feel terrified and frightened at the same time.
He shot you again but you deflected it. Then he kept shooting constantly as you tried to keep up with dodging the blasts.
Arius' gun overheated and you turned the lightsaber off and ran to him.
The punching between [Y/N] and Arius was harsh and neither held back on hitting each other. On both faces small spots of blood and bruises could be seen.
In the distance you could heard the Royal Guard and you felt the distant presence of your parents. Although it didn't stop you from holding back. The one thing they both forgot was the small crowd watching their beloved Princess get beat and be aggressive back.
You rapped your arm around his neck and held him tightly. The Royal Guard and your Parents stood there in shock.
"Let him go [Y/N], people are watching" your mother, the Queen, warned.
You didn't care. You thought about everything he said about your father and it angered you. You wanted to kill him.
"Do as your Queen says [Y/N]" your father said sternly. It sounded as if he was mad at you.
You released him and stood up. After you dusted yourself off, you sent a force push at him as it made his lungs hurt. Arius felt as if something stepped on his chest.
Arius stood up. And you gave him a death stair.
"Stupid girl. Did you really think it would be that easy? I thought a spoiled little brat would be smart enough to realize the man in front of you."
The tension was rising and you could feel your body wanted to do something rigorous.
He kept talking but you were so caught up that the words were no longer going through your ears.
You quickly force pushed him to the wall and ran to put your forearm against his throat.
"Keep talking and I'll make sure you won't be able to say another word" you threatened.
"[Y/N]!" You were slightly shocked to hear your father in that tone. He never raised his voice at you because you never given him the reason to.
"You will release this man and retire to your room immediately!" He added. But you felt so rebellious and you didn't want to listen.
"Oh look the little princess just got in trouble by her daddy." He mocked you. That was it for him.
You used the force to choke your parents and the guards. With your other hand you used the force to bring the lightsaber to your hand and quickly ignited it and brought it against his neck.
"So what are you now? The little bad Princess?"
"I'm the bad guy"
With that you sliced his head off and everyone ran away screaming.
The Royal Guard and your Parents were released and they stood there in shock. They were only able to see your back because you weren't facing them.
"What did he do to me?" Your tone was unrecognizable.
"Baby, put the saber down" your mother suggested.
Ben felt as if it was his fault. He could see himself in her the night he burned down the temple.
"How did he make me feel this way?" You started to lightly cry in horror.
"Its okay. We can help you overcome these feelings." You heard you father say with a loving tone.
You mumbled somthing but they couldn't heard you.
"What did you say" the Queen asked.
"I don't want to overcome these feelings. I feel so different and powerful now."
They were so shocked. They couldn't believe what you just said.
"I will miss you dearly" you say before running off quickly towards Arius' ship.
They all tried to run after you but you were far younger and they couldn't keep up.
"What is she going to do?" Ben asked Rey almost terrified to even ask in the first place.
"She will try to conquer the galaxy as you once desired. Then if she needs to, she will return back here to seek revenge" Rey replied.
"What revenge does she want with us?" Ben questioned.
"The dark side tends to make you do things you didn't want to do before. You should know that."
They both looked up at the direction that your ship left and they wondered if they should go looking for you ever again. Or if they should wait for the day of your return.

Chapter 2- Them...
Chapter 1 - Chapter 2
           Knocked out on the ground was Hato. Around him was his father, Satori, Heisu, and Haruki. Satori looks at her father.
           "Will he be alright??" she asks. Her father pats her back. "Have faith, you three. Your siblings don't die or give in easily…" he says.
           He walks over, kneels to Hato, and pets his white hair. "We'll have to leave you soon…please watch your sister…".
           Hato unconsciously grabs a familiar haori snapping his eyes; he sees his father's haori with Zen with a bamboo muzzle on her mouth wrapped in it.
           "Your awake." Says a familiar voice. Hato instantly sits up and hugs Zen to his chest. In front of him is Eita standing with his arms crossed.
           "Head down the mountain and find a mountain called Fenikkusu Mountain. Then look for a black-haired man wearing a crow mask. He may help you with your quest. Keep your twin out of the sun. She can die from the sunlight.  She should be fine as it is cloudly Safe travels." Says Eita as he zooms away.
           Hato looks at his sleeping twin with a smile.
           ~Later~
           Hato says his prayers mentally at the burials of his four deceased family members. Zen stares at the tombs sadly. Hato pulls out the flower crown Haruki gave him just yesterday and places it on the grave of Haruki. Hato says his goodbyes, grabbing his twin's hand, and begins to run to an area where she would be safe.
           After running down the mountain, Hato guides Zen to a cave and puts her there. "Alright, Zen, stay here. I'm going to find something, alright?" asks Hato.
           Zen looks at him and nods. Hato gets up and goes to look for something to carry her in. After walking around, he sees a basket and bamboo, and a cloth. He runs up the duo gardening.
           "Excuse me, sir! Can I have the bamboo, basket, and cloth?" asks Hato, a curious glint in his eyes.
           The man turns to Hato. "Sure for what good it'll do you. It's covered with small holes." He says.
           Hato smiles. "It'll work. How much do you want for it?"
           "It's free. Go on ahead and grab it."
           Hato pulls his wallet out and grabs a few coins. "Let me pay for it."
           The guy sweatdrops, "No need to jeez calm down."
           Hato pulls his hand and slaps coins in his hand. "Shut up and take my money." He says.
           Hato grabs the stuff while the guy holds his hand in pain. Running to the cave, he looks around him. Many trees and flowers surround him, his eyes land on a red flower, and his mind thinks of Riku, and his eyes soften Riku…I hope your OK…We can't go back… We'll run into each other soon…hopefully…thinks Hato.
           Making it to the cave where Zen was digging a hole. Hato stares at his twin, uh…what? Is my demon sister becoming a mole now? He thinks.
           "Zen?" asks Hato. Zen turns to her older twin tilting her head. Hato smiles at her. "Hey. Are you that afraid of the sun?"
           Zen nods, looking at her brother. "Alright, I'm going to do something…" says Hato.
           Hato fixes up the basket he got. Entering the cave, he placed the basket down. "Hey Z? Can you go into the basket?" He asks.
           Zen looks at him, blinking confusedly. Hato points to the basket "Bas-ket," he sounds out. Zen crawls out from the hole and slides in the basket.
           Hato sweatdrops she's too big…He thinks. Then Zen moves more in, then flips the basket and shrinks. Hato panics. "Ah! Zen!" he goes to the basket.
           Zen looks up to her twin with her gold eyes. In front of Hato was Zen as a Child with her big yellow eyes. A sense of nostalgia goes straight through him. Zen looks at her brother, blinking. He pats her head. "Sorry Zen…Good girl…" he says.
           Looking at his sisters' longer, messier hair Hato gets an idea. He picks Zen out and begins to try and braid her pale blonde hair. As he tries to braid, he notices that her ashen blonde hair had white ends. Blinking, he grabs his little sister's child-hands and sees that they're sharper, fading to red. "Hm…Weird…hey Zen?" asks Hato.
           Zen looks at him, making small noises. "Are these all aspects of a demon??" asks Hato. Zen shrugs, Hato finishes the first-time braid and uses a ribbon to tie extra hair. Hato then picks Zen up and places her in the basket.
           "Sorry if it isn't good. I think it'll be easier to tame, though." He says. Zen nods in agreement.
           Putting the cloth over the basket, then slipping the basket on. Hato begins walking to the mountain he was told to go to.
           ~Meanwhile~
           Riku trails behind Meiro and Yang as they enter a wisteria family crest house. Meiro would look over his shoulders to watch Riku and make sure he didn't do anything. Yang glances at him. "I said to put a gag on him. Why haven't you done that yet?" Asks Yang.
           Meiro glares at his older half-brother. "He hasn't hurt anyone yet, Yang…".
           Yang sighs. "Meiro. Father may have allowed it, but he too asked for a gag…" He moves his hand to his snake-hilted sword.
           "I won't do it!"
           "Do you want to be eaten, Meiro?"
           "He won't! Now can we clean his kimono?! It's covered in blood! Along with his mouth!"
           Yang sighs and turns to Riku. "OK, demon, take your kimono off. We have extra." He says, turning away. Riku begins to take his black kimono with blue feathers and flame. The kimono was off his shoulders when Yang turns and freezes "Woah, Woah! In a separate room!!" he says.
           Meiro blinks. "I wouldn't-"
           "Meiro Chisaki, you finish that sentence, you will be back with father in HQ as a bloodied pulp and broken bones."
           Meiro shuts up completely. Yang then pushes Riku into a room with an extra kimono. He looks to Meiro. "Go dampen a cloth. To clean Riku's mouth." He says.
           Meiro nods and goes to get a cloth. Yang places his sword on the wall letting it rest on the wall. Removing his dark haori with the yin and yang symbol and snakes, he puts it on his sword's hilt. Going into another room, changing into the kimono given to him by the old lady.
           "My…what a nice view I saw," says a voice. Yang freezes and looks at the window.
           There sat a black-haired individual with purple eyes in the window. A smile was on his face, Yang glares at him. "Hiroshi. I see that you're still a stalker." He says. The man known as Hiroshi smiles and enters the room. Looming over the much shorter man, eyes clearly showing the kanji for "Lower Rank one."
           Yang glares at him. "What do you want," he says with bitterness in his words. Hiroshi chuckled at the attempt to scare him.
           Hiroshi moves closer to Yang and gently grabs his chin. "Why else? For you, my little snake harshira. I want you to join the demon's side." He says.
           Yang pulls the demon's hand away from his chin. "It will never happen, Hiroshi. I don't even believe that's your real name."
           Hiroshi glares. "You will be a demon and be by my side. I won't let you leave like the one before you."
           Yang turns from him. "You slept with me more than once. Find someone else."
           Hiroshi's purple eyes glared at him and about to leave. "You will be mine, harshira. I'll become an upper rank and physically take you if I have too" he says, disappearing. Yang leaves the room to see Riku with a gag and Meiro holding his forearm.
           Yang runs over. "Meiro! What happened?!". Hiroshi must've put something over the room they were in. Whatever happened must've been loud. He would've come out right away if that was the case.
           Meiro looks at Riku, who seems shocked or disgusted with himself. Yang pulls Meiro's hand off his forearm and sees bite marks and claw marks. Looking to the side, he saw Meiro's Wisteria Flower pouch on the ground.
           "I won't ask again. What happened?"
           " He bit me…So I had to get him off. I pulled out wisteria flowers, and he backed off…He put the gag on himself… He's disgusted by himself…" explains Meiro. (Diizaren, You gave me the idea. Meiro did look like food to the insecure demon boi)
           Yang walks over to the demon who's cowering in a corner. Riku looks up in fear at the older auburn male. Tears were desperately appearing in his pale teal eyes, looking away from Yang. Yang feels his eyes soften. He may be a demon, but he's still young… He's obviously sorry for what he did…thinks Yang as he pets Riku's red hair.
           "You…must be disgusted by what you did…so you wanted a gag. You did the right thing…I just remembered…We never asked your name…What is it…."
         Riku grabs a piece of paper and a paintbrush and then writes."
         "Riku. Todoroki Riku."
         "Riku? That's a nice name…
          My name is Chisaki Yang..
          My brother is Chisaki Meiro…."
           ~Meanwhile~
           As nightfall lands on the land of Japan, Hato lets his sister out of the basket, and the twins walk side by side. The lady Hato stopped to talk to said this was the way to the mountain they were getting sent to. Though she did tell, people have gone missing up in the mountain. So best to have his demon twin with him in case he goes missing.
           The twins begin to walk past a temple when Hato freezes. His eyesight was 10 times better in the night, and he saw blood and a demon eating a human arm. The demon senses them and leaves the temple jumping on top of Hato. Zen meanwhile had drool dripping from her mouth onto the ground, her pupils becoming slits as the scent of blood and meat filled her nostrils. Craving a feast, she stares at the bodies.
           Hato struggles against the demon. Pushing the demon off, Hato realizes the demon looks strangely familiar to him. Then the moonlight shone on the demon, revealing deep-red hair in a similar style to Hato's mother, who passed away many years ago after Haruki's birth. The shadow on the demon's eyes lifted, showing pale teal eyes with slits and blood dripping down from his mouth, where a scar from the right corner of his mouth to his ear. The black kimono the demon wore was awfully recognizable with red flames on the end and sleeves.
           N-No...it couldn't be…thinks Hato, gold eyes shrinking. As if Hato's world wasn't broken enough…it was shattered completely. In front of him was Kouten, his elder brother the one that went missing three years ago.
           "K-Kouten…It can't be…you… can't be…a demon," says Hato, heartbroken. Kouten growls in response. Kouten then dashes over to Hato and pins him to the ground, fangs bared with blood on the pearly whites. Hato tries his best to hold off his elder brother from biting down on his neck or collarbone.
           His eyes were filled with shock, horror, and tears. "Kouten! Stop!" sobs Hato. Kouten doesn't hear him and gets closer to Hato's neck. When Zen hears her twin's sobs, she automatically turns her attention from the dead bodies to Kouten and Hato. Zen's eyes clearly show anger as she dashes over and kicks Kouten off of Hato.
           Kouten growls and zips to Zen, grabbing her and throwing her into the nearby forest. Hato panics and tries to follow after his two siblings. With Zen, she regains her footing and gets a clear view of Kouten. Zen's eyes shrink K-Kouten…No…she thinks tears gather in her pale-yellow eyes.
           She and Kouten were close. She followed him everywhere in the house when she was younger. Kouten was an ideal older brother. He worked day and night for money to give his siblings and dad something for their birthdays. When their father needed rest Kouten would do the cooking, cleaning, and watch his younger siblings. When Saisho was out, Kouten would, to the blunt of getting more stuff. He was highly charismatic as well, and to go with it, he had good looks. Every girl wanted him, but he always turned them down since he chose his family over a relationship. He adored his mother, father, older brother, and his younger siblings.
           So seeing her elder brother like this was…traumatizing. Zen could hardly fight him, but she has to. The two demons enter a battle where one will die, and one will live. The demon in front of her, who was Kouten wasn't the kind-hearted and devoted big brother she knew. This demon has no more mental state. The only thought is…I must fight him. He isn't himself anymore…thinks Zen.
           Hato finally catches up to his two demon siblings fighting. Hato glances around, hoping to figure out a way to separate the two. Then he could possibly talk some sense into his older brother. Unknown to Hato, a wolf stalked around him. When Hato is distracted, the wolf lunges at him.
           Kouten looks to the side, seeing the wolf lunging at Hato. For some strange reason, Kouten forgets the battle with Zen and dashes to Hato. Getting close enough, he kills the wolf before it attacks Hato. The twins watch in slow-motion. Kouten throws the wolf corpse deeper into the woods. Turning to Hato, he stares at the familiar white-haired golden-eyed male. He unconsciously pats Hato's head then disappears.
           The twins look at each other and quickly return to the temple. Unknown to them, a man in a crow mask watches them. He shakes his head. Are they Hawks-Sensei's kids? The white-haired one is too scared, kind, and slow…thinks the man as he looks at the sun peeking out from the horizon.
           Eita, I am sorry…I do not think
          The white-haired one will be
          Cut out for the corps…
           Meanwhile~
           Kouten takes refuge in a cave as the sun slowly rises in Japan. He rubs his head, wondering where he saw the two people before and why he saved one of them.
           One of his eyes begins to shift into the kanji for "five" he thinks back to this familiar ginger as well. Why did these people feel familiar to him? The white-haired one knew his name, yet he didn't know his.
           His only "family" he had was the family he created in the mountain of Norkoribi. Kouten looks to the mouth of the cave. He decides to wait until sun-down to return to the "family" on Norkoribi.
           Resting his head on the cave wall, he closes his eyes. Suddenly he was on a mountain full of flowers. He then notices a white-hair full-grown male with black tips wearing a black haori with blue flame on the sleeves and around the bottom on his shoulders watching two kids play.
           The two kids, one teal-eyed, blonde with red and blue specs wearing light-yellow kimono with blue and red dots was running from the other golden-eyed with white hair and wearing a white kimono but with purple feathers was chasing him. He feels something behind him, and he turns to see a redhead with a shadow over his eyes with a black kimono with blue feathers turning into flame as they reach the end. Kouten subconsciously pets his head to encourage him to play with his older and younger brothers.
           The redhead smiles and joins the two boys playing tag. Looking to the side, two females. One with a multicolored-eyes, short blonde hair wearing a red kimono with black feathered detail on the left arm sleeve and white feather detail on the right arm sleeve holding baskets veggies. The other had loose pale blonde hair with a shadow over her eyes, wearing a similar white kimono with black feathers was carrying a basket of tea leaves and flowers.
           The pale blonde runs to him and hugs him with a smile on her face. Kouten hugs back with an unknowing smile. He then sees two males walk over to him. One was white-haired with a shadow over his eyes, wearing a black haori with white feathers. The other one seemed older than Kouten with deep purple hair wearing a dark purple haori with lighter purple flames around his neck was a necklace of a silver feather and a shadow covering his eyes. The pale blonde girl returns the short blonde girl. The two new males look at him and walk past him smiling.
           He feels warmth in his hand as he looks to his left was a lightly tanned ginger wearing a haori in a very dark blue with yellow stars with constellations on it. Kouten feels warmth in his heart and squeezes the ginger's hand. The ginger smiles and lightly squeezes back, then Kouten moves his hand up and caresses the cheek where a dark moon and yellowed stars on the cheek sat tattooed there. The ginger blushes, and Kouten assumes he looks away. Remembering that they weren't alone, Kouten pouts and stops caressing the ginger's cheek. The man with white hair with black tips stares at him and smiles. Kouten turns to him.
           The man gets up and walks over to Kouten. Kouten looks to the man who pets his hair gently.
           "It's time for you to wake up…
           Kouten…"
           Kouten snaps his eyes open and immediately looks around. Empty. It was just him in the cave. In a dream that felt real, he feels no warmth in his hand where the ginger held. No boys playing or girls bringing veggies and tea. Nor the man was white hair with black tips. Kouten feels something break in his heart, something that didn't happen with the "family" he created.
           He missed that dream…he wants that dream. He wants a real family, a family where everything felt so natural.
           Just who…
            Am I?
           Thinks Kouten as tears fall down his cheeks
           Who are those
           People?

Wraith in the Ruins: A Fallout 4 Story Part XXII
The Crown of the Monster Queen

Please enjoy!
…..
…..
It was his turn at watch, but when Wraith checked the bedroll, Danse was nowhere to be found. His power armor was gone as well, “What the heck?” She pushed down a brief surge of fear, “Probably has the internal military clock and is already up… off having a pee…” The two of them were on their way to Breakheart Banks to clear a super mutant camp, and the little nervous voice in her head was suggesting that he had taken it upon himself to scout, or even worse, engage the pack without her. “He doesn’t strike me as the impetuous type… goddammit.” She waited patiently for all of five seconds before suiting up and going to look for him.
The previous evening Danse had frowned at Wraith’s suggestion to camp on the river, “In light of our power armor, it is ill advised to bivouac with water to your back.”
His pushback irritated her, “I thought you said you’d follow my lead on this trip, considering it’s for the Minutemen. Besides, in light of the existence of mirelurks, we would be more likely to retreat inland. Plus,” she folded her arms and smiled at him, “it’s pretty here.”
Your stupid blimp is at the airport. The airport is on a peninsula. With water around it!
He raised a voluminous eyebrow and glanced around, “I suppose the visibility is optimal at this location. And this outcropping of sandstone should provide concealment for a smokeless fire as well as a vantage point,” he gave her a slight smile of his own, “to watch for said mirelurks.”
The small cove had a clear view of the river as well as a relatively easy escape route up and into a small cluster of sheltering trees. Wraith and Danse collected dry driftwood along the shoreline and while he started the fire she disembarked her power armor to start meal prep.
“You should practice doing more tasks while in the armor.”
“Okay, but after I finish setting this tripod up, I’m going to go water those bushes,” She gave him a significant look, “and that’s not a task one does in the suit, correct?”
His eyebrows knit, “That’s too close to camp for a latrine, knight.”
Proud of herself for choosing such a great campsite, Wraith sported a large grin while she made dinner. She was in a good enough mood that she turned her radio on low and hummed tunelessly along with the music. She noticed Danse watching her, an inscrutable look on his face, “You need something, Paladin Danse? You’re just kinda spacing out o’er there.”
He blinked and shook his head, “Negative,” He lowered his eyes and his voice, “I was simply lost in thought.”
Mama Murphy had told Wraith that she could “save a soul lost in steel” and she had taken that to mean Elder Maxson. To that end she had reconsidered her previous rejection of Danse’s invitation to join the Brotherhood. Now, she figured the best way to gain the elder’s ear and remain in his good graces was to play friendly with his apparent favorite. Initially she had been put off by Danse’s stiff and formal demeanor and had put him in the same category of irritating as Rhys, but after spending more time with him her opinion had begun to soften. Somewhat.
“No problem. You know, if there’s something bothering you, I’m happy to listen.”
He looked surprised, “Oh! That’s not... Thank you. I’m going to do a perimeter check, if time permits…”
“Chow will be ready in about ten.”
Can’t wait to get away from me, huh?
“Acknowledged.”
They hadn’t spoken very much after that and the silence was less than comfortable. Wraith had volunteered first watch and had been relieved to put some distance between them.
Now she was worried for him (underneath the irritation) and she set a brisk pace as she stomped southward along the shore. She hadn’t gotten very far when she heard a shrill whistle from behind her. Whipping around, she lost her balance. The shoreline had angled upward sharply to form a cliff and she had a scary moment where she attempted to pinwheel her arms as she teetered dangerously close to the edge.
Danse came charging to her rescue, “I got you!” He whipped off his helmet, a glare created from worry on his face, and immediately launched into a graphic lecture on the finer points of drowning in power armor, “… and furthermore the joints and cockpit are not water tight. Ha… although this allows for a greater mobility… ha… it will fill quickly,” As he spoke a grin kept pulling on the corner of his mouth as the image of her flailing arms kept playing over in his mind, “and so standard procedure maintains you must keep a level head and wait until the water has completely filled… ha… the quick release… ha ha…” The smile had gotten free and now there was no denying he was laughing.
Wraith was not amused, “You picked a helluva time to develop a sense of humor!”
“You…” He stopped trying to fight it, “your arms!”
Wraith sighed and chuckled, “Yeah, yeah.” She shoved him playfully, “Where were you?! I don’t think it’s standard procedure to disappear like that.”
He pointed back toward camp, “You walked right past me, knight. I hailed you but you must not have heard me over the noise generated by a quick march.”
“Okay, but why were you up already?”
He kept a perfectly straight face, “Morning constitutional.”
Wraith’s laugh came out like a bark, “HA!” She shook her head and smiled, “Okay. Okay.” Turning away from him, she headed back to camp. “Paladin Danse, I think we have been working next to each other but not with each other.”
“Agreed.”
“So we need to communicate better, right? No more one-word answers…”
“Agreed.” He smiled at her when she turned around to give him an incredulous look, “That was a joke, knight.”
“That’s another thing; call me ‘Wraith’, please.” They were back at the campsite and she exited her armor, kicked off her boots and crawled into the bedroll.
“That’s too…”
“You call Haylen and Rhys by their names. You guys are a bonded team, right?” She yawned expansively, “We need to be a team too. So start bonding.”
He chuckled, “I believe that works both ways, knight. I’m going to patrol now; we can bond over super mutant eradication later today.”
“OORAH!”
“AD VICTORIAM!”
That afternoon the pair scouted the super mutant camp before falling back to work on a plan. To her surprise, Danse was all for just the two of them clearing the site and not calling for reinforcements.
Maybe he’s more reckless then I thought…
On the eastern edge of the former farm was a small lookout tower with a single super mutant in residence. After Wraith quietly dispatched the occupant, they set up a perimeter of mines then both took up position in the tower. Picking their targets, they began their first volley.
The mines were quickly exhausted as the humanoids swarmed the tower. This was all part of the plan and Wraith, whose armor was modded for melee, vaulted over the rail to smash and chop their opponents; keeping them clear of her teammate. The two of them stayed in constant communication: calling encouragement and tips back and forth to one another. It was working out fairly well until the alpha, a huge and imposing primus, got a couple of hits on Danse. The mutant called his two remaining pack mates back to him at the encampment’s main structure, and ducked back into cover before Wraith could return fire.
“Are you alright?!” Wraith retreated back toward the tower, crouched as low as the armor would let her.
“Affirmative. Taking cover.”
She put the tower between her and the primus and removed her helmet, “What’s your status?”
“Shoulder’s a little hot, but no stimpak required. This monster has fought the Brotherhood before.”
“Or, at the very least, opponents in power armor. Can you get a shot on either of his brutes?”
“Both, actually.”
“Okay, pick one.”
“What are you going to do?”
“I’m gonna kill the other one, silly.”
His small grunt indicated his annoyance at her oversimplification, “I understand. What I’m asking is ‘then what’?”
“Well, we’ll see, but I’m hoping the big guy will be motivated to come out of cover once he sees how much fun wrestling with me can be.” She winked at him.
He chuckled, “Put your helmet back on, knight. I’ll take the one on the left.”
“Fantastic. I’ll signal you when I’m in position.”
To get within striking distance, Wraith looped right, part way down the steep, rocky hill that overlooked the river while trying desperately to be stealthy in the power armor. Rather than stare at her intended target, she kept her eyes on a tuft of grass just in front of them.
You don’t feel me. I’m not here. You somehow can’t see this large, metal suit coming to kill you…
Once satisfied with her position, she uncovered the small mirror on her gauntlet and sent a ray of light back toward Danse. After counting to three she launched herself at her intended victim. She could hear her teammate’s plasma rifle hit the brute on the left just as she slammed her gauntlet’s bayonet through her brute’s closest knee. The impact forced their legs together and when Wraith raised her arm to flip them onto their back, the incredibly sharp instrument sliced right through, severing the leg completely. A quick chop at the neck beheaded the humanoid and Wraith was satisfied to see a large puddle of green where Danse’s mutant had been standing.
All according to plan.
“TIME TO DIE, HUMAN!”
The primus, on the second level of the farmhouse, took several shots at Wraith through the floorboards, clipping her helmet while she attempted a somersault which she couldn’t complete, “DammitFUCK!” She was able to roll away to the other side of the structure and get to her feet, but dropped her rifle and was shot two more times in the process, “Fucking ARMOR! Now I know why Deacon fuckin’ hates this shit!”
The primus laughed at her, “HA! BUCKET HEAD IN THE DIRT LIKE A MOLE RAT! HAHAHAHAHAA!”
“OH YEAH? WELL, PUNY GREENSKIN IS AFRAID TO FIGHT ME WITHOUT A GUN!”
The primus howled in rage; swinging his fists as he thundered down the shack steps to prove her wrong. Just as Wraith moved to meet him, an alarm sounded which indicated her fusion core was low.
Gotta wrap this up quick.
The alpha was an excellent fighter and Wraith, having some small difficulty adjusting to the suit’s more limited range of motion, got her bell rung a couple of times. She backed away as they grappled, hoping to bring him into range of Danse’s rifle, but when she cleared the building, she could see the paladin was no longer in the tower.
Gotta wrap this up quicker!
She trusted that her partner would circle around the other side of the building as soon as he lost sight of her, probably even taking the same route she did, so she didn’t panic. She was tired of being bashed around though so she caught up her opponents arms at his wrists and held on for dear life.
“GAAAAAARRR! LET GO, BUCKET HEAD!” Flexing powerfully, the great mutant lifted Wraith a couple of feet off the ground in his attempts to free himself from her grasp. He shook her back and forth but when that didn’t work, he raised his arms even higher before slamming her violently back to earth.
She was able to keep her feet and her grip, “HA! Can’t get rid of me that easily!” She heard a gasp behind her and was able to turn her head just enough to see Danse was watching them, “Don’t just stand there being impressed! Help me!”
Danse flinched guiltily before blasting the primus to green goo, “Are we clear, knight?”
Wraith doffed her helmet and patted her sore head experimentally, “Yeah, he was the last of ‘em.”
Danse removed his own helmet and was beaming at her, “Outstanding! Are you sound?”
“I hear ringing, if that’s what you mean.”
He chuckled, gave her a hefty pat on the back and ducked into the shack staircase, “We should check to see if they had any valuable equipment…” he turned back to her when Wraith didn’t immediately follow, “Are you seriously injured?”
“My core’s spent.”
He frowned, “You should still be able to move…” He smiled at her when she stuck her lip out at him, “I’ll just switch it out for you. I didn’t realize it was so low. I thought you said you went through the checklist I gave you…”
“Danse, I really like working on power armor…”
“As do I.”
“But, fighting in it…”
“Practice makes perfect, knight.” He gave her another pat, this time more gentle and affectionate, “You’re all set. AD VICTORIAM!”
“Oorah.”
…..
…..
“Emogene…” Hancock narrowed his eyes as he repeated Wraith, “Emogene…” He turned away from her and looked to MacCready, “Emogene? That Cabot dame? Isn’t she…”
“Dead? Yeah. I’m pretty sure.”
Hancock looked down at Infamy who had flopped backward and was lying on the floor, “What the hell’s she mean?”
Panting, they weakly waved him away, “I couldn’t begin to guess.”
Hancock knit his brow and briefly entertained the images of choking the life out of the glowing one as he walked past them on the way to the staircase, “Nicky… I need Valentine...” He took the steps two at a time with MacCready, Deacon and Danse hot on his heels.
“You’re thinking you got something?” MacCready tried but failed to keep the desperation from his voice.
Hancock paused before picking up the Radio Freedom receiver, “What I’m thinkin’ is that we need to find out where Wraith hid the alien artifact that started this shit.”
“Alien artifact?” Deacon’s eyes widened, “Like, UFOs? I leave for a little while and you guys are picking fights with aliens?”
“Why are you looking at me?”
“Well, MacFeisty, I just assume it was you…”
“WHAT THE HECK IS THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN?!”
“Will you boys be quiet?! I’m on the phone!”
The minutemen operator who answered was less than courteous, “It’s the middle of the night and I’m not your errand boy, Mayor Hancock. Furthermore, this line is strictly for Minutemen personnel, and not for your personal use.”
“May I?” Danse accepted the receiver and lit into the unfortunate solider at full volume, “SPECIALIST REGIS, THIS IS CAPTAIN DANSE. THIS IS AN URGENT MATTER AND YOU WILL PERSONALLY COLLECT NICK VALENTINE AND BRING HIM TO THE RADIO AT ALL SPEED OR I WILL PERSONALLY SEE TO IT YOU ARE ON LATRINE DUTY UNTIL THE DAY YOU EXPIRE! IS THAT UNDERSTOOD?!”
MacCready smirked at him, “Well, I guess you’re useful to have around after all.”
In a few short minutes, Valentine’s worried voice came through the speakers, “John? What’s going on?”
“Tell me everything about what went down with Emogene Cabot.”
…..
Mama Murphy sighed, “Child, I know I can be of use. The Buffout won’t kill me. It’s my choice regardless.”
Sofie prickled at being called a child, “Ms. Murphy, what you do with your free time is none of my concern. That being said, I will not condone the recreational use of chems. As for your being of use,” her smile was forced; her perfect teeth a stark contrast against her scarred lips, “I’m sure Wraith wouldn’t want you to risk your health to help her.” The tiny ghoulette returned her gaze to the reports on her desk, brooking no further argument.
Murphy sighed again as she rose stiffly to her feet, “Thank you for seeing me, then.” After she left Sofie’s office she had fully intended to go home to her chair, but found herself walking through the door of the clinic instead. “Hello? Noah? Are you in here, son?”
The handsome young man poked his head out of a supply closet, “Hiya, Mama! How can I help you today?”
“I need you to give me some Buffout and then write down everything I say after.”
He blinked rapidly for a moment, “Uh… I’m a medic, not a chem dealer?”
“Semantics.”
He frowned, “I think the subject matter is a little more complicated…”
“Wraith needs my help. Our help. I can feel it…” She half closed her eyes and reached a hand out toward the ceiling as if the vision was tangible and she could pull it from the air, “I can just see…” She let her arm drop, “Please. I’d prefer if someone is with me; my memory ain’t what it was when I was young. But if you won’t help this old lady out, I’ll still find my own way to what The Sight wants me to see.”
Williams bit his lip, his dark eyes troubled, “This goes against what the doc taught us… but I seem to remember her also telling us to explore and discover new science, so… loophole?” He ducked back into the closet, “How many do you need?”
“Just one, child. Get ready to take notes.” She settled into the office loveseat, tossed the pill into her mouth with a casual negligence and closed her eyes, “Ohhhh, that’s the stuff. Feels like I could tear down a building, ha ha.” After a few seconds her eyes opened and when she spoke her voice was different: a cadence closer to chanting, “The one who can’t speak will tell them where. I can see them descending into the deepest dark where there is no air. Power’s lesser, ravaged twin calls to it. Guarded only by an ancient, unseeing eye, they seek and find their sorrow at the very bottom of the world.”
Williams felt compelled to the edge of his seat. After a few moments of silence so absolute, he could hear his heartbeat in his ears, he touched the elderly woman on her arm, “Mama Murphy? Are you okay?”
She sniffled and wiped a tear from her eye, “I… think so. Oh dear. Oh no…” Alarmed, Williams half stood but she waved him back to his seat, “I’m okay, son. Oh, Noah, I didn’t see him come back. Child, I fear he’ll be lost to the darkness.”
…..
…..
“DARN IT, GERTY! MOOOOVE!” MacCready shoved at Bossy’s brahmin, “How can you have two heads, BUT NO BRAINS AT ALL?!”
The caravan from Goodneighbor to Sanctuary had been ambushed by super mutants near Lexington and in her attempt to flee, the terrified bovine had trapped the merc in the doorway of one of the town’s many dilapidated buildings.
“Damn it, MacCready, will ya stop playin’ with Gertrude and give us a hand?! The hell I’m payin’ ya for?!”
Diving between the brahmin’s front legs, the young man had to roll to the side as one of the mutants attempted to stomp him with a large green foot. He unsheathed his bayonet as he went and stabbed viciously, piercing the limb. When the humanoid involuntarily lurched downward, MacCready vaulted to his feet and slashed their throat from ear to ear before spinning away and shooting two more mutants who were closing in on the bawling cow.
Bossy nodded at him, “Now, that’s caps well spent.”
“Hancock’s caps, you mean?”
“Bah…”
Just as MacCready felt they were making a dent in the mutants, a mob of ferals, attracted by the commotion, attacked as well, “What is going ON TODAY?!” He dodged a roundhouse from a super mutant that when it made contact with the feral behind him, all but annihilated the ghoul’s misshapen head, “Thanks!” MacCready smiled at the mutant then shot him in the eye. He was knocked flat a moment later as a tangle of ferals verses mutant crashed into him. He got the breath knocked out of him and panic settled in as he realized they were being overwhelmed by the sheer chaos.
“CHOOOOOO CHOOOOOOOO! HERE COMES THE PAIN TRAIN!”
Wraith, wearing her power armor and wielding a rocket sledge, came crashing into the middle of the brawl; scattering ferals and mutants alike. Danse followed right behind her, strategically reducing the mob’s numbers to green puddles as he came.
There was moment when Danse nearly shot a caravanner, but for MacCready slamming his rifle butt into Danse’s arm, forcing him to miss.
“SHE’S NOT A FERAL YOU DUMBASS!”
Wraith stepped in between the two men as it looked like it might come to blows, “Easy boys. We’re all allies here…”
“Yes, it’s fortuitous that we happened by. Otherwise this group of… wastelanders, would have surely been killed…”
MacCready stepped around Wraith to hiss in Danse’s face, “We were doing just fine…”
“Must’ve been hard to get an accurate assessment from your back…”
Wraith saw the deadly look in MacCready’s eye and quickly intervened, “Whoa, whoa! Knock it off, Danse.” She turned back to MacCready, “I’m sorry about that…” She was interrupted by a message from Radio Freedom and after listening intently to her Pip-Boy for a moment she smiled apologetically at him, donned her helmet and left with Danse as quickly as she had arrived.
It was much later that night when Hancock crossed through the mostly empty bar and poked his head into the V.I.P. section of the Third Rail. There he found an extremely morose MacCready, well into his drink, “What’s the good word, little brother?”
After answering with an impressive burp, the young man patted the couch seat next to him, “Comere ‘nd cheer me up.”
Hancock slung an arm around to squeeze his shoulder as he sat next to him, “I see yer drinkin’ with purpose. Bossy said ya had a bit of a dust-up today…”
He waved the comment away, “’Snot that. I saw Wraith.”
Hancock made a face, “Still stomping around with the full metal jackass?”
MacCready laughed, but it tapered off to growl, “Can’t believe she ditched me for that tin can. What the heck’s she doing helping the Brotherhood of Squeal for anyway?”
“Well, I think she’s mostly touring ol’ rusty bottom ‘round the Commonwealth helpin’ Minutemen settlers. She wants him to see the plight of the people on the ground so when he flies up and reports to that balloon-wielding clown they call ‘Elder’, maybe he’ll have a more down-to-earth sensibility, you feel me?”
MacCready guzzled the last half of his beer and belched again, “I feel they should’ve mindeded their own busses… boise… butts, back to the Captinnal…”
“Or, better still, puncture their zeppelin on Trinity Tower and,” Hancock ran his thumb through the air while blowing a raspberry, “cast themselves out to sea in one long fart.”
MacCready laughed so hard he nearly fell off his seat, “Whew! Isneedsome air!”
Hancock helped him up the stairs, but hesitated when they opened the door to a substantial storm, “Oops, looks like this air’s damper than usual…”
The merc gently pushed off of him, removed his cap and stepped out into the torrent; closing his eyes and lifting his chin to let the rain wash his face, “Feels good…”
Hancock caught his breath as the young man turned and smiled at him just as lightning flashed across the sky; turning his eyes a brilliant aquamarine. He stepped out into the deluge, caught MacCready under his arm and led him past the doors to the bar and into the Old State House proper, “Can’t have you getting’ sick, now…”
Once up the winding stair, the ghoul led him to his bed and eased him down on it, “You can sleep it off here…” he helped him out of his gear and stooped to help with his boots as well.
“You gonna take my pants off too, big man?”
It would be so easy. Hancock could picture it in his mind: pushing MacCready onto his back, his mouth on his, hands exploring the young man’s warm, lean-muscled skin in search of scars… But when he brought his dark eyes level with MacCready’s brilliant blue ones, he hesitated. Yes, there was lust there, but it was the bleary-eyed-non-specific lust of someone lost in drink. He leaned in close, pushed his damp hair from his brow and planted a kiss on the merc’s forehead, “Ask me again when yer sober.”
When the ghoul turned to walk away, MacCready caught at his hand, “Please… just… I don’t want to be alone… Would you read to me? I… wanna to hear your voice.”
Hancock’s sigh was weary, but he smiled kindly down at him, “Whatever you need from me.”
…..
…..
“I need you to stop naggin’, that’s what I need!”
“It might be that Strong is the only thing keeping her at bay, and now you’re running off on a wild goose chase…”
“Nicky, I’m not…”
“When you know you have people who can go for you!”
Hancock stopped his jog, closed his eyes and took a deep breath, “Valentine, you have my permission to shoot me if Radiance turns me feral, alright?!”
“Christ, John!”
“I should be able to restrain you in the event that you are mentally incapacitated.” Danse’s armor squeaked slightly as he pantomimed a hug.
Hancock chuckled at him, “Thanks, brother.”
After much debate, Hancock and Danse had left the Peabody Safehouse, stopped at Diamond City to pick up Valentine and were now making their way to the Cabot’s home.
“Besides, Nicky, she’ll have more of a fight on her hands: I’m stone sober.” He resumed running, “I think the closer you are to being out of your mind the easier she can get in it.”
“I can see that being a possibility; you said most of your people just had headaches, but the ones who were steady users went feral.”
“Were you imbibing on the day in question?” Danse tried to phrase the question as politely as possible.
“Well, no. I was watching my grand baby. But, I wasn’t exactly in the best frame of mind, you feel me?” Hancock picked up the pace, “Wraith missing, and Preston named General as if she had died. Not to mention that my people were going feral all around me and I had no idea why.” He grunted uncomfortably, “This is all getting a little too touchy feely…”
“So, high mental anxiety paired with what? Your being a ghoul? Still feel like we’re missing a piece of this puzzle.”
“According to Mother Isolde, some of the human Children of Atom were suffering from headaches as well. No doubt from when Radiance was in the Glowing Sea gathering feral ghouls.”
Valentine was breathing hard trying to keep up, “When I questioned Infamy, they said most of the horde had been from their efforts and that Radiance had stolen them.”
“The piece we are missing is that alien headband…”
“There’s no way, Hancock.” Valentine talked louder when the ghoul tried to object, “There wasn’t enough left of anything after Deegan shot Emogene!”
“Well, if I see what’s left lying cold and still in the ground instead of floating around terrorizing the neighborhood, then I’ll have nothin’ more to say ‘bout it!”
Valentine took point when they reached the Cabot House and the patrolling sentry bot seemed to recognize him as he was allowed to ring the intercom, “This is Nick Valentine calling, and I was hoping to talk to Jack, if he’s available.”
Edward Deegan’s tone was cool, “What’s this about?”
“We’d like to talk about the unfortunate events that took place on the day that Ms. Cabot passed…”
“You’ve a lot of nerve, Valentine…”
Hancock gently pushed Nick aside, “You been keeping up with this Radiance business?”
“Hancock? Uh, yeah sure. Why?”
“Wraith says she’s Emogene.”
The door practically flew off of its hinges and Deegan, backlit yet clearly enraged, stood huffing in its frame, “HOW FUCKING DARE YOU?!”
“Edward?!” Jack’s voice came drifting down the stairs, “Who on earth are you bellowing at?!”
“It’s Nick Valentine, Hancock and some Minuteman-In-A-Can…”
“Well, let them in!”
The angry ghoul stabbed a finger at Hancock, “Just you watch yourself. You hear?”
As he listened to Valentine briefly outline Wraith’s current plight and the subsequent revelation that Radiance was Emogene, Jack grew increasingly agitated, “I question the validity of any claim made by the former general as she is clearly insane.”
There was a heavy, ominous silence as Wraith’s three friends were shocked to speechlessness. This was followed by absolute bedlam, as all five of them started yelling at and to each other. After a few minutes, the noise took on yet another layer of volume as Jack’s mother Wilhelmina walked into their living room banging two pots together. Then silence reigned again as they all stopped to stare at her.
“Gracious! Five grown men yelling like little boys. What on earth is the matter with you all?”
“Please, Mother, it’s nothing I can’t…”
“Hush now, Jack. Don’t presume to tell me it’s ‘nothing’.” She turned to Valentine and gave him a toe to crown look, “Who are you, young man?”
He chuckled at her choice of words, removed his hat and dipped his head respectfully, “Mrs. Cabot, I’m Detective Nick Valentine, P.I.”
“Oh, that’s right. You were with my Emogene…” She fell in on herself for a moment then straitened and gave him a hard look, “What do you want with what’s left of my family?”
Doffing his helmet, Danse dropped to one knee, “Apologies, Miss, but we would like to pay our respects to your late daughter. Such a tragedy was her passing we would lay a laurel on her gravesite, but only with your approval.” As all eyes turned to him, he maintained a look that was a masterful mix of chivalry, humility and sorrow; the perfect personification of a knight.
Wilhelmina was completely entranced and stood gazing at him for a moment, “Yes. Yes of course. She’s entombed in the family crypt at Wildwood Cemetery.”
“Mother! These ruffians fully intend on disturbing her grave and you just told them where to go!”
“Now, don’t be ridiculous, Jack. Why should they want to do that?”
Although he was irritated by the pomp of the Cabot household, Hancock wasn’t without sympathy for a mother who had lost a child. He followed the example set by his companions and removed his hat, “We’ve no intention of desecrating a quiet grave, ma’am.”
Jack glared daggers at him, “I shall be going along to make sure of it.” He turned to Deegan, “Edward?”
The family guardian sighed heavily, “Yeah, Jack, me too.”
The group left almost immediately yet the sun had set by the time they arrived at the cemetery. They paused at the broken gate and crouched low, expecting to see feral ghouls wandering around. However, all was quiet and the only thing moving was a swirling mist that had settled into the graveyard.
The scene sent chill fingers up his spine and Valentine found to be very fitting, “Like the set of a horror flick…”
Jack scoffed at him, turned on his flashlight, stood up abruptly and briskly led the way through to the mausoleums built in to the eastern embankment. His pace slowed as the beam of light reached what was meant to be his sister’s final resting place, “How…”
The concrete building had been blasted apart from within.
“Looks like she’s not in at the moment. Perhaps we should check back later?” Hancock was smug.
“Fascinating!” Jack turned to Deegan, “I was shocked that any part of her head remained. The bullet must have fully struck the artifact! I gave what I thought was the total remains of it to Wraith, per her insistence, but I must have been mistaken. A small portion must have remained. Perhaps the combination of radiation…” He spun away from Deegan and grabbed Valentine by the arms, “I must go and speak with Wraith!”
Valentine blinked a few times before looking over at Danse and Hancock, “Anyone else just get whiplash?”
…..
“I don’t trust you…”
“Naturally.”
“And I don’t like you.”
“Oh! I’m terribly hurt.”
Once again Wraith and Infamy were together in the void of her consciousness. No longer pure white, there was a yellow-green haze overhead that bent down to meet with the horizon. Wraith theorized that because none of it was technically real, the coloration was a way that her mind had come to terms with Radiance’s barrier. It gave her something to push against so she had grudgingly admitted that Atom’s Assassin was apparently helping. The glowing one had danced around her gloating and so she wanted to make sure they understood what their relationship was.
“Once I’m free of her then I’m going to make sure I’m free of you.” Even though it wouldn’t take her away from them, she turned her back and walked away anyway.
Infamy followed behind, skipping, “And here I thought I was beginning to grow on you, hahaha!”
“I’m pretty sure there’s a cream for that...” Wraith trailed off as she felt a change in the void. If air existed there it suddenly became heavy and hot. She turned back to tell Infamy off if it was something they were doing, but the words died on her lips. Radiance was standing right behind them.
Infamy turned as well and took a few steps backward to get outside of striking range, “Looks like your chaperone is here. Curfew already? Hmm. Seems sooner than usual…”
“Infamy, you should leave,” There was something different about this Radiance: something more solid. More like the version that tormented Wraith with the memories of Marie’s death. More like the one that had burned her, “I don’t think this is a proxy…”
Radiance had locked eyes with her opposing glowing one, “You. I thought I could ignore someone as weak as you.” She glanced at the barrier, “You’re becoming a problem, I see. I’m close enough now though. Close enough…”
“Infamy! Leave! Leave NOW!” Using all her strength, Wraith ejected her ally before Radiance could destroy them. Then, left alone with her tormentor, she lifted her chin defiantly.
Wraith’s display of strength and nerve thrilled the monster queen, “Yessss. Beloved, you are strong!” She took a step closer, her arms out wide, “Imagine how much more powerful you could be if only you would join with me. Give yourself to me, my love. I could give you such pleasure…”
Wraith growled at her, “Never. You don’t love me. You don’t love anyone.”
“You’re wrong! From the moment I met you when came to rescue me from that silly preacher, I have loved you.”
“Prove it. Let me out.”
Radiance seemed to flicker out of focus and just for a moment, an image of Emogene Cabot flashed in her place, “We can’t. You have something we must have. We are incomplete without it.” Now the glowing one turned up the heat and sent tendrils of chartreuse flames crawling across the unseen floor toward Wraith, “You must tell us! Tell us where we can find the rest! Tell us where our crown is!”
…..
…..
“Ah, here you are.” Danse had been looking all over the Prydwen for Wraith and it had been Proctor Ingram that suggested he check the forecastle of the airship. “I take it your audience with the elder didn’t go as you had expected?” The wind was intense and he practically had to shout in order for her to hear, “It’s certainly bracing out here!”
Wraith stood at the very tip of the narrow beam. She was in her power armor, but had removed her helmet and was staring at the city, “No. It went pretty much exactly how I expected.”
“What was that? I couldn’t quite hear you, knight.”
She chuckled humorlessly, and turned her head to smile sadly at him, “I’m on the precipice, Paladin Danse. I’m going to have to make decisions soon. Hard choices…” She could see he was confused and concerned. The concern was genuine and she felt a guilty tug at her heart. “I’m having a hard time getting through to him. I thought that I should… find it easier. He doesn’t want to hear me.”
“Take the time to remember why we’re out here; the elder has only the highest concern for the citizenry of the Commonwealth…”
“All her citizens?”
“You mean ghouls?”
“Don’t make that face.” She walked back toward him and had a brief moment of disorientation as she wasn’t used to looking down to talk to him, “Daisy. Remember Daisy?”
“The shopkeep in Goodneighbor? What about i… her?”
“You very much enjoyed speaking with her… don’t shake your head!” Wraith let herself sound angry, “Your elder would have her ejected from any B.O.S. settlement and forced out into the ruins.”
“Simply to protect any human citizen from the day when it… she, inevitably goes feral...”
“No human has ever acted spontaneously out of passion and hurt or even murdered someone? Besides that, there is a distinct lack of evidence that all ghouls would go feral given enough time.” Saddened, Wraith swallowed a few times to prevent herself from crying, “I guess I’ve failed with you too.”
Danse looked slightly panicked, “Failed? How do you mean, knight?”
“I’ve grown to like you, Danse. I feel like we’ve become friends. How do you feel about us?”
He opened and closed his mouth a few times. Unaccustomed to heart-to-heart conversations, he was struggling to articulate how he felt about her, “I’ve told you off-the-record, personal information. Things I’ve never told anyone. You’ve become a confidant; a true friend.”
“I’m glad.” Her smile was sad. She let her eyes drop to the airport and was quiet for a moment. “Do you know where I got this?” She drew Kremvh’s Tooth and held it aloft so that the setting sun glinted off the wicked-looking blade; making it seem as if it was made of fire. “Hancock and I were responding to a Minutemen call at Dunwich Borers. There was a raider clan there. Bedlam. That was the name of their leader.” She sheathed the ornate knife and returned her eyes to the ground below, “After the fight we pushed forward. I guess we felt like tough shit and were looking for trouble. I saw some stuff. Never could explain… anyway,” She looked back at Danse who was listening intently, “There was a well… or something and I decided I was going to show off for Hancock. I dove in and swam to the bottom which is where I found the knife. I can hold my breath for a very, very long time, but I didn’t tell him that. About half way back I saw him. He had jumped in, fully intending to save me. Except now he was half drowned and I ended up towing him to the surface. After he caught his breath, do you know what the first thing he said to me was?”
“I couldn’t begin to guess.”
“He said ‘Whoa! That’s a badass knife!’ and asked if he could hold it.”
“Knight…”
“He risked his life in an attempt to save mine…”
“I don’t see how that’s rel…”
“Of course it’s relevant!” She wasn’t shouting just because of the wind anymore, “He’s a ghoul, yes, but that doesn’t preclude him from being a caring person! A citizen of the Commonwealth! Why should his wellbeing be any less a priority?” She pushed on when he didn’t answer, “I hope that you will spend some time thinking about what I’ve said. For now, we should go our separate ways.”
“I’m afraid I don’t quite understand…”
“I know you don’t, Danse. And that’s upsetting.”
“I’ll… verify if there’s a vertibird available for you…”
“No need.”
“No! Do not jump from here. If you land in the water…” He trailed off as Wraith had already vaulted over the railing. He saw her land safely and was impressed despite his frustration. He stood at the rail for a long while; letting the harsh wind buffet him as the sun went down.
…..
…..
Infamy stood, dazed, “She kicked me out. She kicked me out?! She kicked me out!”
“Stop saying that! What the heck are you even talking about?”
They acted as if they couldn’t hear MacCready and ran up the basement steps, “Ohhhh, Strong! Where are you my great green galoot?”
“STRONG IS NOT YOUR ANYTHING!” The massive humanoid had been sitting in the doorway cleaning Smashy but now lurched to his feet to glare at the glowing one.
“Never mind. Radiance is here! Somewhere…”
“How do you know?” MacCready ran out into the yard with Strong. Peering through his binoculars he rotated in a circle.
“She crashed my session with our problem child.” They scrunched up their face, “Wraith just might have saved my life. Not sure if it was just self-preservation or if she genuinely cares what happens to me. She is the sort who would act automatically altruistically. Yet again, I like to think I have a way with people, you understand…”
“Will you shut up?! Jeez! You’re making it hard to concentrate!”
“Never realized one might need their ears to see. But, then again, you are the professional.”
“GHOUL’S SKIN WOULD MAKE A NICE BELT AND HAT!”
Infamy took the hint.
“I don’t see any glowing lights. I think you should still go out, Strong. Even if we can’t see her we want her to see you.”
He nodding then threw back his head and bellowed mightily, “RADIANCE! STRONG WILL RIP YOU APART AND PRESENT YOUR GUTS TO ALPHA!”
Deacon, haven taken an earlier shift, was napping on the couch when he heard their commotion. He joined MacCready on the lawn with his own pair of binoculars just as the super mutant jogged away, “Infamy, what‘s Radiance’s range?”
“For me it’s a few hundred feet or so. Might be more, might be less with your caged monster.”
“I don’t see Radiance but I do see our intrepid trio… Looks like they brought guests.”
The two groups came together and brought one another up to speed. Danse woke Curie and afterword they moved en masse to the basement. Rather than greet them with her customary threat display, Wraith gazed vacantly off into a shadow-filled corner. Apart from Deacon, who stayed near the staircase, they fanned out around the cage and stood in silent uncertainty.
“You thinkin’ she might be duking it out right now?”
“Could be. It’s hard to tell…”
“I suppose I should try to get back in. As much as I love being here this close with you all, breathing in your various body odors, no sense standing around waiting for something to happen.” Infamy sat cross-legged on the rough-hewn floor and closed their eyes.
To the shock of all, Wraith suddenly lunged across her prison, reached through the bars and grabbed Infamy by their foot. They struggled helplessly as she lifted them completely off the floor before violently slamming them to the ground as if she were cracking a whip.
Hancock and Danse leapt to an attempted rescue; each grabbing ahold of one of her arms. She laughed manically as they struggled. Jack, Deegan and Deacon joined in as well while MacCready ran up the stairs for the syringer.
“Emogene! It’s your brother. Please stop.” Jack pleaded with his sister, “If that’s you, then talk to me! Tell me how I can help you. What do you want?!”
She let go of the unconscious glowing one and shook herself free. When she spoke it was still Wraith’s voice, but the tone and enunciation were just different enough, it was if someone was doing an impression of her, “What do I want? I want it all, you simpleton!” She spread Wraith’s arms and spun in a circle, “I want power and love and to indulge in their delights for all time.” She came to a stop and leveled a murderous gaze at her brother, “I want the artifact. All of it. You will tell me where the rest of my crown is or I will burn Wraith from her mind and leave you all with her broken husk.”
“It won’t make a difference either way, you hag. You’ll still try and kill us all; even if we give you what you want.” MacCready leveled the rifle at her but didn’t pull the trigger.
“O’er my dead body.”
“That’s the idea, Hancock.” She smiled at him evilly, “Though in your case, I’ll be making an exception. I will see you dance for me, just like you did for Wraith.”
“I don’t know you, sister. I’m thinkin’ I don’t want to. And I don’t think you thought this through.” He spread his arms and gestured to the group, “Ain’t a one of us who knows where your dime-store crown is.” He leveled a finger at her, “There’s only one person on this entire planet who knows, and you’re squatting in her brain!” He shook his finger back and forth, “I would think that you’d play this a little nicer; you get more with sugar than salt.”
She yawned, “Ugh, what a bore. I forgot how much you like to hear yourself talk.”
“He’s talking a lot of sense, Emogene.” Valentine stepped over Infamy’s prone form and stood just outside of her reach, “Give this up. There is a chance we could still help you. Curie here is an excellent doc. Not to mention your brother…”
“MY BROTHER?!” She gripped the cage bars and leaned forward to shriek at him, “MY BROTHER HAD ME KILLED!”
“I… no… I…”
“NO!” Deegan wouldn’t let that stand, “Your brother sent Valentine and Wraith to try and help you. I… I shot you, Emogene. I thought you had killed everyone. That you’d become a monster. And the only way I could save the memory of a girl that I’ve known since she was a child…” The ghoul closed his eyes and looked away, unable to continue.
“Oh, poor Edward. Poor sweet fool; I am a monster! And just to prove… what?” She took a step back, her eyes confused “How? How did you find me?!” Confusion turned to fear, “NO! GET AWAY FROM ME, YOU BRUTISH, GREEN…”
As suddenly as she had become Radiance, Wraith returned to herself. She shook her head a few times before leaning into the bars, “I could really use an aspirin.”
Deacon stepped over Infamy and reached out a hand to touch her, but caught himself and pulled it back, “How much time do you have?”
“Ah, the eternal question.” She was happy to see a few half smiles on her friends’ faces, “I’m not sure. I don’t even know all of what just happened.” She popped her chin at Atom’s Assassin, “They alright?”
Hancock nudged them with a boot and seemed satisfied that their groaning was indicative of good health, “Yeah, I’m sure they’ll mend.” He pushed his tricorn back to clunk foreheads with her, “You sound better, sunshine.”
“She must’ve dropped the barrier completely. How did you manage that?”
“I sicked Strong on her.” MacCready came to give her a kiss, “I hope he eats her or, whatever.”
Curie passed a bottle in-between them, “Excusez-moi, Madame, but please drink this.” She beamed as Wraith drank it down without question, “You see, Monsieur Deacon; it does not taste like frowns!”
“That’s… not exactly what I said.”
Danse made a mental note that Deacon had once again taken a step back so the others would have room. It irritated him but he wasn’t sure why. He waited until Wraith had finished chugging Curie’s health drink before reaching through the bars to give her a bear-hug that was almost crushing. He didn’t trust himself to speak so held her quietly for a few moments while gently patting her back.
Wraith caught sight of Jack and pointed an accusatory finger at him, “You! You made this mess. You had better damn well help me clean it up!”
“I’m not entirely sure…”
“Tell me how to block the artifacts effects!”
“I’m not sure…”
“How about a goddamn tinfoil hat?!”
“Block nothin’,” Hancock was holding one of Wraith’s hands, “destroy is more my thinkin’, you feel me?”
“Unfortunately, that is quite impossible. The artifact is simply too powerful; it cannot be destroyed by any means…”
“Clearly, it ain’t.”
Valentine nodded and gestured to Wraith, “I was wondering about that too. You mentioned that it was indestructible, but maybe it only makes you think that it is. It’s proven to be vulnerable against an AMR, at any rate.”
“It’s sentient, then?” Danse was making a face.
“Absolutely.”
“Well, then, let’s go get it, strap it to a mini nuke and call it a day.” MacCready turned to Wraith, “So?”
“So what?”
He blinked a few times, her confusion having confused him, “So, uh. Where’s it at?”
She released Hancock’s hand and folded her arms, “Nope!” She started to laugh and shook her head, “Ha ha. You almost had me, Radiance.” She took a few steps back away from her friends and shook her finger at the ceiling, “There’s no way I’m telling you where it is so you can just sit and spin.”
“She thinks she’s… that we’re…”
“Not real.” Hancock was crushingly disappointed.
“But of course we are real. Why should this not be so?”
Once again Wraith’s eyes glazed over and she growled lowly. There was a collective groan and Curie began to softly cry. Danse held her and whispered soft words of encouragement into her ear.
MacCready clenched and unclenched his fists, “She went someplace by herself.” He seemed to be speaking to the ceiling, “No, that’s not right. She took Dogmeat!” He turned to Valentine, “Wraith went off someplace, just her and Dogmeat, right after you got hurt. That must’ve been when she ditched the alien thingy!”
“So the dog knows? Maybe. Does that help us?”
He opened his mouth to speak but was interrupted by someone yelling through the Radio Freedom speakers. The group trouped up the stairs to hear better, leaving Infamy in the tender care of the concrete floor.
“I’m not sure if you heard me; this is Mama Murphy. Noah, dear, I know how these work. Probably better then you, sweetheart, so stop pushing buttons. Hello, kids? Is anyone at home?”
Hancock picked up the receiver, “Murphy? What’s happening?”
“Hancock, I’ve seen the way to help Wraith.”

Season 7-Adam Sackler/Reader-Chapter 7
anChapter 1  Chapter 2  Chapter 3  Chapter 4  Chapter 5  Chapter 6
Rating: Explicit
               “Is that it?” You ask as you move another full box. Adam was packing up his apartment to either be sent to your apartment or to his new storage unit. Most of it was packed and marked with where it was to be sent. The plan was that you would take a car load to your apartment, then he would get the rest ready to take to storage. He’s practically bouncing around, and you know he was elated when you asked him to move in. You were excited too, though there was a part of you that was afraid that something would go wrong, but that was the risk of any relationship worth having. Adam then comes up behind you to wrap his arms around you, and you lean back into his embrace. He kisses your neck and tells you, “That’s everything but I think we should take advantage of this place one last time.”
               As you nod your head in agreement, you feel him rock into you, then he removes himself from you and takes off his shirt. You turn to look at him with curiosity peaked, and he grabs your hand leads to the bathroom.  Once inside, he kneels to start running water in the tub, and you then know what he means. The water runs and the two of you begin stripping out of your clothes but at a much slower pace than usual. Normally, you were in such a rush to get down to business that your clothes would be flung all over the place, but now you were taking your time to take each other in. You admire his broad shoulders, strong chest, and all of his moles and freckles. You let your hand drift across his torso, and his hands mirror yours as he runs his fingers over your breasts and ribs. Then the tub is full enough for the time beings and he steps in first before offering his hand to you to help you step in.
               You tentatively settle down inside the water in between his long legs and situate yourself so your back is against his chest. He wraps his arms around your stomach and takes the sponge to run it along your breasts before leaning forward to lightly scrub your legs. You tell him, “You know I’ve always been more of a shower person but I could get used to this.”
               “Hmm me too.” He mumbles into your neck as he slumps back to continue holding you. You roll your neck back to rest against his shoulder. Meanwhile fingers draw circles on each other’s skin and the two of you remain like that for some time until the water gets cold. You chuckle before stepping out of the tub, “And here I thought you had an ulterior motive for getting me in naked and in the tub.”
               He steps out too, and you grab a towel to dry off. He responds to your comment, “Don’t worry I have plenty of plans for the bed before it goes into storage.”
               Adam then grabs a towel and you put yours around your chest, then you trot into the bedroom. The bedroom is down to the bare bones and the bed itself is now just a mattress lying on the floor. The frame that it sat on is now in one of the boxes doomed for storage. Adam follows you and before you sit down on the bed, you notice that he’s looking around the room, trying to take it all in. You wonder if he’s having doubts about giving this place up, he’s lived here for eight years, and he’s always been able to come back to it. You decide to let him have a moment to himself before stepping across the room to hug him from behind, then you press a kiss between his shoulder blades.
               Your presence must have snapped him out of his nostalgia because before you know it, he’s turned around and throwing you on the bed. You bounce on top, and he’s on you with his large body pressing into yours, and his lips crash against your mouth. Soon, his tongue is delving into your mouth and his fingers unhook the towel, leaving you naked underneath him. At some point, he must have taken off his towel too because you feel his aching cock bump into your lower abdomen. He grinds his hips against your core as his mouth moves to your breast. You whimper when you feel his plump lips lap at your nipple, then he rolls it with his tongue before giving your other peak the same treatment.
               Your fingers tangle in his hair, then you tug on his hair as you pull him away. You flip yourself and Adam so you’re on top of him. As you press kisses down his chest, you say, “I wanna ride you on this mattress then I want you to fuck me so hard on it that it still squeaks.”
               “I can do that.” He breathes out and his hands tangle in your hair, and you know what he’s getting at. You slowly kiss below his belly-button, down the light hair that leads to your prize. Deciding to tease him a bit, you move down below his cock and take his balls in your mouth first, and you hear him let out a low groan. You then wrap a hand around his cock and rub the head along your lips like a tube of lipstick. Then, you tentatively suck on the head before laying open-mouth kisses down his shaft. You then take as much as of him in your mouth that will fit and start bobbing your head.
               Adam moans and you release him with a pop, then you maneuver so you’re on top of him, facing his feet. As you align your folds with his cock, his large hand smacks your ass, and he says, “Ah I fucking love this view.” His hand smacks you again and it turns you on more than you’d like to admit. Instead, you sink down unto the head of his cock before taking his whole length. You both moan in pleasure, and he says, “Fuck, your cunt is so tight.”
               You begin to ride him, keeping your back arched to give him the best view. His hands run along your back, then grip your hips as he shift his lower half slightly. That angle gives plenty of friction to your clit, and you can feel the pleasure rise as you ride him more vigorously. You can feel the coil start to unwind in your stomach, and when Adam thrusts up into you, you moan as you come undone. Your toes curl, and your head falls back to your shoulders. Once you’ve rode out your orgasm, you move so you’re lying down on your back beside to Adam, and it only takes a millisecond before he’s on top of you.
               He leans over you, grabbing your legs to throw them over his shoulders, then he enters you again roughly. Adam moans as he thrusts into you hard enough that the mattress squeaks, and bangs against the wall. You can feel your tits bounce as he continues pounding into you, then he groans as you feel his cock twitch inside you. You tell him, “Cum outside, I want to be covered in your cum.”
               He pulls out, then beats his cock before his cum coats your chest and collarbones. Adam finishes then grabs one of the towels to clean you off, he follows up with lying beside you. His arm wraps around your shoulders, his lips find the crown of your head and he says, “Jesus fucking Christ, kid. That’s one way to send off this bed.”
               You chuckle and turn so you’re facing him. There are no sheets on the mattress, and you’ll have to take a few from the sofa before you go to sleep. It’s a strange feeling being so content while this room looks empty and beyond minimal. You look up to lock eyes with Adam and ask, “You sure you’re ready to leave this place?”
               You knew it would be hard for him to move on, and you wanted to be sure to give him an out so he wouldn’t feel pressured. He responds by running his fingers down your upper arm, then he verbally answers, “Yeah, I mean I’ll miss it but I’m excited to move forward with you and be with you all the time. I love you, and it feels natural to be with you.”
               “I love you too,” You reciprocate and place a hand on his cheek which then moves to his hair while your lips give him a sweet kiss. When you pull away, you’re caught off-guard by his next question, “What about you? Are you sure that you really want me to move in with you?”
               You’re shocked that he has to ask that. If you didn’t want him to move in, you wouldn’t have asked him to. Adam’s amber eyes watch your face waiting for a response. You tell him the truth, “Yes I really want you to move in with me. But there’s a part of me that’s also scared. The way I feel for you is so intense, there’s no coming back from it.”
               His eyes bore into yours, then he grabs your face and crushes lips to yours. When he pulls back, his eyes have such devotion and adoration in them, you feel you’d combust if that were possible. You know you’re too far into this, you love him so deeply that it has to work out, or else you won’t know how to move on with your life. You snuggle into Adam’s chest as your legs intertwine with his, and sleeps hits you both.
****************************************
               Adam picks up the next box to move to the rented u-haul truck, from there he’ll drive it to the storage unit. Y/N already took a car load with her friend to her apartment to start unpacking it, and he was left to managing the rest before she came back. He felt like he was bouncing with energy, and he had forgot how annoying packing up to move was. He knew he was head-over-heels for Y/N but he still feared that she would grow tired of him and move on. But he knew, that for him it was only her for now on. Even if she ended it, he knew he’d still go back to her no matter what. Everything just felt right and natural in their relationship, and he assumes that it feels like that with your soul mate.
As he moves the box, he hears someone outside his door. Surely, Y/N wouldn’t be back yet, but he wasn’t sure who else it could be. He opens the door to find Jessa standing there on the other side.
               “Hey, it’s been a while.” She says and Adam desperately wants to shut the door in her face, but he decides against it because it may be too rude. Instead, he says, “Yeah it’s been a long time. What are you doing here?”
               “I came to see you, can I come in?” She says and looks around him to see inside the apartment. He wants to run away, run to Y/N’s apartment and never come back.  He quickly says, “I’m actually in the middle of leaving so now is not a good time.”
               “Wait, like leaving to go somewhere then come back, or leaving like you’re not going to be here anymore?” Jessa asks as she looks around what she can see of the apartment. Then she charges inside and Adam has no choice but to step out of her way to accommodate her. Shit, he thinks to himself and he tries to think of some way to get rid of her now. He decides to tell her truth, and hoping that if she finds out that he’s moved on, that she’ll finally let him go.
               “Leaving as in I’m moving somewhere else. I’m moving in with my girlfriend.” Jessa’s face goes through a cycle of emotions from clear sadness to disappointment before settling into an angry scowl.
               “That’s typical you Adam. Who’s your girlfriend, anyone I know?” Her voice has venom in it, and he doesn’t want to tell her, because then she might harass Y/N. Then there’s the other part of his brain that wants to rub in Jessa’s face that he’s with Y/N. He still remembers her outburst from Hannah’s party when he met Y/N, and how Jessa nearly destroyed any chance he might have had with her.
               “Y/N. We’ve been going out for a while now and I’m happy.” Adam answers with pride and smugness in his voice. Her face scowls as her arms move to her hips and she taps her foot in frustration. Seems like a lifetime ago they were standing in this same spot, having a huge row, destroying the place. The memory now makes him cringe, especially now that he knows what a happy, healthy, truly passionate relationship is like.
               “I don’t know why you’re wasting your time with her. You know she’ll leave you, and you know you’re pretending to be someone you’re not.” She sneers, and he can tell that she’s baiting him to give into the madness and intensity that used to dominate their relationship. Now, it just feels pointless and he wants to go home to Y/N, but he’s not going to let Jessa get by with that statement.
               “First of all, you’re fucking wrong, second, it’s none of your fucking business. And third, if you have nothing else to say, then leave.” He says and he moves toward the door, hand going towards the knob, to emphasize his point that he really wants her to leave.
“Adam, what we have is special, and I’m sorry I didn’t always appreciate it. But I appreciate it now, and I still love you. I want you back.” She says and her hands grab his arms. She looks so desperate but he knows there’s nothing left for them, and he would never consider being with anyone other than Y/N now.
               “Jessa, what we had wasn’t that special, I used you to get back at Hannah. And, I’m with Y/N now, I love her, and she’s the most important thing in my life right now.” Adam says and he hopes that she will cool off, and maybe one day she can move on in her life like he has his.
               “Fuck you, Adam! I ruined my friendship with Hannah for you, and this is how you repay me?!” She screams, with her finger in his face. He says, “Oh that’s right, isn’t that the thing that you could never forgive me for? Even if we died in the same bed?!”
               “I finally made some kind of peace with Hannah so we could be together but no you had to string me along, and now you’re too busy fucking some pretentious bitch to understand what I did for you!” She yells and she grabs a glass from one of the boxes, and throws it at him. Adam heads out the door this time, he’s not taking her bait this time. As soon as he’s outside, he sees Y/N coming up the stairs.
               “Adam, what’s wrong? You look freaked out, have you finished packing everything?” She asks and he meets her in the middle of the staircase. He wraps his arms around her and breathes in her scent when he buries his face in her hair. He doesn’t answer her question, instead he tells her, and “I love you so much.”
               “Uh, I love you too.” She watches his face to try to figure out what’s going on. He finally tells her, “Jessa is in my apartment, I told her about us, and she was getting violent so I left.”
               Y/N nods and she marches towards the apartment. When she gets outside the door, there’s an audible crash of something hitting the wall. Y/N opens the door, Adam follows behind her and tries to get in front of her to create a physical barrier between Y/N and Jessa. Jessa says, “See you always come back!”
               “Yeah he came back, but you need to get the fuck out.” Y/N says and Jessa whips around to look at her. Jessa then tells Y/N, “I hope you’re happy, you stole my boyfriend! You’re a bitch and you should know that he’ll eventually leave you to come back to me!”
               “I’ll keep you updated on that,” Y/N says as she dismisses Jessa, which works because Jessa then walks out of the apartment, slamming the door behind her. Adam wraps his arm around Y/N’s waist and presses a kiss to the top of her head. She looks around the apartment, and he stops before she gets too close to the glass that Jessa broke.
               She helps him clean, and they finish moving his belongings to the U-Haul. Y/N is being quiet and Adam wonders if Jessa’s outburst has scared her. When they’re locking up the apartment, he stops to tell her, “I’m so sorry about Jessa. Things have been over with her for a long time. I love you, and I’m happy to have you in my life.”
               “Well things could have gone much worse with Jessa. I’m happy that you’re mine. Now, are you ready to go?” She steps up onto her tip-toes as his hands lace behind her back, and she pulls him down to kiss him. When they both have to take a breath he whispers in her ear, “I’m ready to go anywhere with you.”
***************************
               It’s been a week since Adam officially moved in with you, but it was more a formality than anything because he’d been living with you since you started hooking up. But you had to admit, it felt nice to settle into the relationship even more, and to know that he was always waiting for you when you got home. He had rehearsals starting up, and you decided to take care of him by packing him lunches to take with him. Now, you weren’t particularly skilled in the kitchen but you could follow a basic recipe, and when Adam headed out, he was surprised to see the bag waiting for him.
               “Wait, did you really make this for me?” He asks as he then steps closer to you. You nod your head and continued drinking your coffee. Then, he collides into you, with his arms giving you a tight squeeze and his lips assaulting your face. You chuckle in response and he gives you a big smile. You laugh saying, “It’s nothing too complicated and I’m not sure it’s 100% edible but I tried.”
               “It’s the thought that counts. Fuck, I love you so much.” He says as he kisses you, and his tongue sweeps your bottom lip. You’re surprised by the intensity, but just as you get into it, he pulls away and heads towards the door. You wave to him before he closes the door. Your phone lights up with several unread messages.
               The messages are from your friends from back home, and Hannah and Marnie. Your birthday is this weekend, your old friends are coming to stay with you to celebrate. Hannah and Marnie are handling the details of the party, and you’ve not told Adam yet because you know his feelings about your friends, but he does know it’s your birthday, so you hope he’ll be agreeable.

Rewatch 8x6: The Wellstone Agency
This episode was gorgeous.
Alina should've had breakfast with Red. They could've knocked that crossword out together. She seriously needs to be TeamRed. I like that they opened with the crossword puzzle. Three letter word for "It has benefits." JOB. Yeah.... a benefit to have Red cleaning your mess. Red offers her an omelet. Another egg reference. I'm waiting for the egg Krilov scrambled. She asked if he's giving her a case or a history lesson. Seriously... they've opened up her character for so much possibility with her background. She could totally play his girlfriend or his daughter. She doesn't have a Tom Keen in her life that could taint the education he provides. She lies about Cooper being in a meeting. She actually went to Red herself to tell him she thinks what he's doing with Liz is wrong. A bad case of "Girl has no idea. Girl speaks anyway." She doen't know Red is Liz's mother. Best she not think like everyone else... as if she knows what's best for Liz. Red has to pursue Liz because she's the one making it worse.
Tumblr media
"Agent Park, next time you feel the urge to unburden yourself, you can rest assured... I've heard it all before. It's a luxury to stand on the moral high ground and critique those of us on the low ground. A lot of people do exactly that. Until they need my help." We saw how this turned out. Alina said she'll never ask for his help, but she did. Ressler said the same in S5. I wonder if they'll be pushing Ressler's in at some point. He didn't ask for Red's help in S5, Red simply offered it. Alina's storyline with this friend of hers feels similar to Ressler's with his brother. Borrowed money from the wrong people. Ressler turned to Liz, Alina turned to Red.
Red knows very well who works for him. He knew Aram spoke sign language, and he knew Aram would be the one they sent undercover because he can speak more languages than they do. An agency that breaks the language barrier between criminals. Hilarious for Cooper to say sign language definitely doesn't count when it's exactly what Red needed. He needs to speak to the owner who's deaf, best put them on the blacklist. An FBI mole storyline for The Wellstone Agency to parallel the KGB mole that stole the Sikorsky Archive in 1990. The Sound of Silence. The deaf owner of Wellstone. Aram speaking sign language. It all reminds me of Lady Ambrosia and Newton Purcell... silence and screaming.
Marylouise Burke was a great choice for Glen's mother. I love how Dembe lets Red vent about Glen. It's hilarious. He just sits there and listens. They throw in a parallel for Liz, despite its context.
Red: “Huey is, in a word, the reason." Two words. "Which is why his failure to attend my memorial would be seen as a snub so great that I'm afraid it may send Mother into a heartbroken tailspin which she may never recover from."
Basically showing Red was referring to Agnes.
Red: She might. Some day. But before then - I fear she may do something that she can never recover from.
They also throw Glen in parallel with Kate despite its context.
Dembe: It's his dying wish. Red: No, it's one of his dying wishes.
Red fulfills both dying wishes for Glen.
Nik: I can’t help you. Tom: Whoever is in here, this is the dying wish of a good woman, alright?
Red: I understand the temptation acting on a fine woman’s dying wish. But your quest has cost Nik Korpal his life, and persisting will put whomever you involve in harm’s way.
Liz: She killed herself so I could get the duffel bag. It was her dying wish. Feel free to honor it.
Kate's dying wish has yet to be fulfilled. Liz doesn't know Red's truth because she still doesn't know his identity. Liz is still trying to honor Tom's dying wish.
Red: You won’t miss a day more with her than is absolutely necessary. You have my word. Liz: And you have mine. That I’m gonna honor Tom’s dying wish. For me to know your truth. Before this is over, I’m going to find out what it is.
That's why this story isn't over.
Aram's conversation with Red's contact reminds me of S5. The pill reminds me of Earl King and The Djinn. The blacklister is a great storyline as they cross into the Russian language for Red's KGB background and the thumb drive. Cooper's scene with Alina about her friend's death feels a lot like his scene with Ressler over Audrey’s prior to him going after Mako Tanida.
Another parallel despite its context. This one, to Red being Ilya.
Red: He told his mother he inspired you to record "Workin' for a Livin'" after a rousing game of beer pong in the back of a bar in Teaneck. Huey: And she believed him?
Ilya: What I can’t figure out is Dom. Why would he tell her all that? Red: In an attempt to help her move on. Ilya: And she believed him?
Aram is getting better out in the field... at thinking on his feet. No Turning Back by Claire Guerreso... great soundtrack for the scene. So dramatic. One of my favorite scenes of Aram... ever. Such a great performance.
"Evidently, Reddington was wearing a wire. One we'll tell the Justice Department that you were wearing." I think Red chose to wear the wire because he's not gonna let The Freelancer's release happen for another blacklister. He's done playing around. It basically removed Red as a CI, leaving the FBI to act as their accusers instead. It not only protects the FBI, it protects Red in the criminal world. His name will no longer come up should others want to face their accuser in court. He gives them a name, allows them to infiltrate, gets the proof they need, and makes it look like they got to these blacklisters on their own.
Cooper is playing a dangerous game with the thumb drive. Making sure Aram keeps it hidden from Red, yet claims to be working with Red at the same time.
Cooper: As if I'm not already asking you to do too much, I need you to try and open this drive. Aram: Okay. Is this about a case? Cooper: I'm not sure. Which is why I need you to keep this between us. Nobody knows. Especially Reddington.
Aram: Mr. Reddington told you the name? Why? Cooper: Because we're on the same team. And because he knows we have to work together if we have any hope of bringing Keen home safely.
Skipping out on his halfsies, taking control as if Red works for him.
Aram: Mr. Cooper, um - about, uh - this drive you wanted me to decrypt. Uh, I can't. I reached out to a friend at the NSA. Cooper: Do you trust him? Aram: I do. Cooper: Good. Because if he tells anyone about this, his life could be in jeopardy. Keep me posted.
I believe this thumb drive will play out like the suitcase of bones, and it will most certainly put Liz’s life in jeopardy just as the suitcase put her in a coma. And I think it will be the NSA friend that makes a move rather than Cooper. I don't think he's gonna be anything like Jennifer's friend checking through Koehler's files. After Cooper said to keep it between them, Aram chose to reach out to his NSA friend. Big mistake. Totally different from the Fulcrum, which Aram handed directly back to Liz. He should've given the drive back to Cooper, but he didn't. That'll be his mistake.
Red: Her husband wasn't who he appeared to be. She was in jeopardy. I had to intervene. Cassandra: And... is she still in jeopardy? Red: I hope not.
I think the opposite of 3a could run through 8a. Ressler putting Liz in danger, Aram saving her life. Aram putting Liz in danger, Ressler saving her life.
"He gets her hopes up, and I have to be the one to dash them. Glen at his finest." A great dialogue with double meaning. There’s also a parallel for Tom Keen and Ressler, despite its context.
Huey: And I got to know 'cause I can't get my head around it. Why in the world is Raymond Reddington running errands for a DMV desk clerk?
Ressler: I'm just I'm trying to run my head around all this. So Reddington's not Reddington.
Red: There is one thing that I can't seem to... wrap my head around. Tom. After all the lies, all the deception and humiliation, how you can just forgive and forget.
Tumblr media
Rederina is my favorite parallel with Glen because it’s the part of the episode that I find most beautiful.
Death and rebirth.
Paula: Glenn... transitioned. Red: I don't know what that means.
Ilya: It is a mystery, right? So, we give them the answer. Katarina: What does that mean?
It’s complicated.
Huey: I - I didn't ask you what he did. I asked what made him special. Red: That's a bit more complicated. Huey: Ah, I'm sure it is. I'm sure it's incredibly complicated.
Red: It’s complicated.
Red: Oh, I think you’re very special.
Weird and strange.
Huey: And weird and strange. But - I like weird and strange. You said I could ask for any favor... that's the favor. Red: You want me to tell you about how weird and strange Glen was.
Waters: Raymond Reddington. Wow. What a name. What a man. And people think I’m weird.
Liz: You have a picture of my mother in your weird, little apartment. Why?
Denner: You must have known how strange all of this was. Liz: Of course I did.
Tumblr media
Huey: That'd be good. Uh, but the truth is, you can't do a bigger favor than revealing somebody's [heart and soul.] Red: No, I don't suppose you can. [Insert Dembe.]
I view Red's eulogy for Glen just as much a eulogy for Katarina Rostova - the person Red used to be. That's why I felt the Statue of Liberty was perfect. The glorious feet of two grande dames, Queen Rostova and Crowned Liberty. One of the saddest differences between Glen and Katarina - they can talk about Glen whenever - wherever they choose. Even saying the name Katarina Rostova has consequences, so her memory fades. Like Katarina, Glen was unafraid. I feel that's the biggest reason Red worries about his memories of Glen fading. Because Red's memories of his former self have, which gives reason for Glen's fearlessness to be the thing he'll miss the most.
Earl Fagen: Living a lie was worse than prison. The day I confessed was the day I went to jail. That was also the day I was set free.
Tumblr media
I love the bag Red put Glen’s ashes in. It says "thank you" ... as if thanking Glen at the same time he's spreading his ashes. As they pan to the photo of Glen with his mother, I consider the mother-son parallel, still predicting Scottie and Halcyon being the next big bad because of Tom’s death.
Scotcheroo... a great nickname for Red, I think.

Heart of Audrilluria- Chapter XIV; The Coronation
Modern Fairytale AU
Prince!Tom Hiddleston x Thief! Reader
Warning: Slight Angst!
Tumblr media
The soft, calming aura of the room heavily contrasted the restless thoughts that ran through Y/N’s mind. It was the morning of the coronation which meant a number of things. First, she’d have to say goodbye to whatever was going on between her and Thomas. Then there was having to go back to the living hell she’d lived in before this absolute fairytale began. That, and she was going to be a criminal in the eyes of the man she’d come to love. Love? Is that what it felt like? Internally sobbing, she began to think back on everything that happened in the past two weeks. It hurt to even think about how much she wanted to stay. For Him. She remembered what he told her the day he confessed to her; “I want to know you! I want to spend time with you. I want to know the things you love and the things you hate. I want to look at the sunset with you in my arms. I want to spend every day knowing I can come home to you. I want to stay here with you by my side and enjoy life. I want to escape all my problems with you. I want you.”
She wanted him too.
But he was too good for her. He deserved someone better. Someone that wouldn’t steal from him or lie to him the way she did. Someone that wasn’t her.
A loud ringing interrupted her thoughts. Already fully awake, she had no trouble getting up to answer the phone. Reaching to answer it, she hesitated slightly. It’s too soon. Snapping herself out of her thoughts, she brought the phone up to her ear and answered with a quiet ‘hello’. “Good morning, Lady Santiago. I presume your plans for today are ready?” Edmundo asked in his normal overly excited tone of voice for the mornings. “Yes, we have everything prepared. We just need our dresses and we will be ready to leave,” Y/N responded, trying to not sound as if she wanted to change her mind. “Very well,” Edmundo spoke, “I will take your dresses up so that we may discuss what will happen at noon.” “Thank you,” Y/N said before hanging up. Turning to face the door, she remembered what happened last night. She remembered Thomas visiting her so late at night. She remembered saying yes to his proposal just so he’d leave. She remembered telling a half-asleep Amelie they’d travel in different cars. How was she going to explain that? Sure, Amelie wasn’t fully paying attention, but she could wake up and realize what Y/N said.
Before she had a chance to think about what to say to Amelie, the door to her room opened. “Rise and shine!” Amelie cheered. She walked into the room and sat down on the unmade bed. “Today is the day!” She gushed. Y/N gave her a soft smile, going to sit by her side. “Today is the day,” she repeated softly. Amelie put an arm around Y/N’s shoulders, leaning into her slightly. Y/N simply put her head on Amelie’s shoulder and focused on the teal curtains in the room.
“So why was he here last night?” Amelie asked, completely out of the blue. “He wanted to make sure we were good for today and that we knew our dresses would be sent up soon,” Y/N responded simply, still looking at those expensive curtains. “Not Edmundo,” Amelie insisted, “Thomas. I know he was here. I was more awake than you think.” Y/N sat up in shock, knocking Amelie’s arm off her shoulder. She turned to look at her in confusion and fear. “How di--” “I was eavesdropping and hoped you’d admit to talking to him last night,” Amelie interrupted, giving her a smug smile. Y/N looked at the floor, wrapping her arms around herself tightly. “So you know he wanted me to be his date to the coronation?” Amelie kept her smile, raising her eyebrow and tilting her head slightly, “Ya, I know. I just wasn’t expecting you to say yes.”
Y/N sighed, “I had to. He wouldn’t leave if I didn’t. I didn’t want you to know he was here, so I said yes quickly. Which now that I think about it, was pointless since you knew.” Amelie chuckled lightly, putting her hand on Y/N’s knee. “I’m your baby sister, of course I’d know,” she teased, “Besides, this could benefit us.” Y/N gave her yet another look of confusion, “How?” Amelie stood from her spot on the bed and began to pace as she spoke; “Well, the first time you two had a romantic encounter, you were in the balcony located on the same floor as the guarded room. If he takes you to the balcony before midnight, you can get to the room easily and take it before we get to the runaway car. I’m almost completely sure he’ll want to say one last goodbye before the party ends.”Y/N nodded, realizing she had a point. This wasn’t in the plan, but it was more full proof than anything else she had in mind. “If anything goes wrong, we have Edmundo and others in on it,” Y/N agreed. “Exactly,” Amelie smiled.
A knock at the door of the main room alerted both sisters to Edmundo’s arrival. “Speak of the devil,” Amelie muttered, going to answer the door. Y/N followed her out to the main room of the suite. Amelie opened the door to be greeted with a luggage carrier with both their dresses on it, covered in a black protective plastic. “Ladies Santiago,” he greeted from behind the carrier. “Mr. Edmundo,” Amelie retorted, moving to the side of the door in order to allow him to enter. Pushing the carrier through the door frame, Edmundo walked in. He shut the door behind him as soon as he cleared it and moved the carrier to the side. “I have the thigh holster with the carrier box attached to it. As well as your dress with the removable skirt,” he said to Y/N. She nodded appreciatively as he walked closer to them.
“What do you need from the moles?” he asked, standing directly in front of the two. “We need someone guarding the room and someone to distract Thomas when we make our move,” Amelie commanded. “I have two moles working as guards tonight and four footmen,” Edmundo confirmed, “I can send one up when you are ready.” “Perfect,” Amelie smiled, “When Y/N and Thomas make it to the balcony, I’ll give you the signal.” Edmundo nodded. “Immediately after you leave, I’ll have the rest of the moles take your luggage to the jet,” he said, pulling a box out of his jacket, he opened the box containing earpieces they’d use for communication. “And these are for you. Both your dresses have pockets where they can be stored until you need them. In Y/N’s box, there are gloves to keep in her dress pockets for when she’s in the room,” Edmundo instructed, “Are you ready to begin?”
Amelie and Y/N looked at each other and nodded, “We’re ready.”
~~~~~
The castle was full of activity. The footmen and maids were running around, finishing up the preparations for the party to be held later in the afternoon. It was hectic, but the day’s event was just that big. Thomas was in his room, putting on the final details to his ceremonial white and gold suit. He looked in the mirror, taking in every detail. Today was the day. Today he would become king and give love one last chance. It was a bigger day than he anticipated. Thomas felt ready, no doubt, but he couldn’t help the small feeling of nervousness that arose. He wasn’t sure if it were for the coronation ceremony or for when he faced Y/N possibly for the last time.
No, he thought, it won’t be the last time I see her. His plan would work. She would be his, even if they had to deal with the distance. They would be together, no matter what. He was sure of it.
“Brooding again, or are you going over the plan in your head?” Charles asked, snapping him out of his thoughts. “Both, actually,” he joked, turning to face his cousin. “It’ll work,” Charles comforted, “I’m sure it will. And for the other thing, I’m sure it’s normal for soon to be kings to brood.” Thomas laughed, walking up to Charles and putting a hand on his shoulder. “Of course it is,” Thomas responded, “Every king before me did it and every king after me will do it.” Charles laughed, causing him to smile wider. “Then you truly are destined to be king,” Charles smiled, “Hopefully with Y/N as your queen.”
Before Thomas could respond to that, a knock on the door interrupted. He muttered a ‘come in’ and the door opened to reveal Augustus, already dressed in his suit. “Your majesty,” he greeted with a slight bow, “I humbly request a word with you.” Thomas chuckled and rolled his eyes, “Granted.” Charles was going to speak before Augustus stopped him mid-breath; “Baron Charles, your presence is requested at the royal office. Please leave us.” Charles looked at him in surprise before looking at Thomas. Thomas simply nodded and Charles took his leave, still confused at Augustus’s mannerisms.
Once Augustus was sure he was no longer in ear-shot, he began to speak, “You’ve inspired me Tom.” It was Thomas’s turn to look at him in confusion. “How would I have done that?” he asked, not understanding. “Tonight after you become king, you will show your beloved that you are willing to fight for the love you feel for her. I intend to do the same,” Augustus explained. Thomas beamed at Augustus’s words. “Finally,” he gushed. He opened his arms to embrace his best friend in a manly hug.
They separated after a moment, still feeling a similar happiness. Today was a big day for everyone, whether it was due to the coronation or the pursuit of love, everyone in the castle had a reason to celebrate.
“Are you ready to head out to the throne room?” Augustus asked after a minute. “I’m ready,” Thomas confirmed.
~~~~~~~~~~
The room was crowded with nobles and other guests, all waiting for the ceremony. Y/N had arrived earlier than most of the guests in a separate car from Amelie. She was OK with it only because it helped with the plan. Y/N was closest to the throne where Thomas would be crowned, given that she was his guest of honor. Date, she thought, he said date. She took in a shaky breath. There was the feeling again. The feeling that arose every time the smallest thought of him came to her mind. She put her hand on her abdomen in a minimal attempt to suppress the feeling in her stomach. It wasn’t butterflies. Butterflies were a sign of infatuation. This was different. It felt different. She couldn’t describe it, but she knew it was a sign of love. Love that was new to her. Love that she hadn’t felt for anyone, especially not a target. Love that made her want to stay. Love that would soon turn into pain. And when this was over, she knew it would hurt to say goodbye.
Shaking her head, Y/N decided to focus on the small details of the room. The large room was gold in color with a few accents of either grey or white. She stood on the side of the stairs that led to the king’s throne. Hanging overhead was the crest of Blythenon surrounded by a gold plaque. The room was much bigger than any other room she’d been in before. It was bigger and more beautiful.
“He actually invited you to be his date?” Augustus asked behind her. Y/N turned to find him dressed in an expensive looking suit. He looked sharp. “Are you surprised?” She asked, smiling now that she wasn’t the only one there. “Not really, I just wasn’t expecting you to say yes,” he said simply. Y/N chuckled, putting one arm around his shoulders in a quick embrace, “Neither did Amelie, but here we are.” They pulled away after a moment, continuing to talk as the room’s inhabitants continued to grow.
They lost track of time catching up on everything that had happened in the past few days, only coming back to reality when the trumpets signaling the commencement of the ceremony rang through the large hall. Y/N and Augustus turned to see Thomas Standing at the entrance down the aisle. He stood there gracefully in his white ceremonial suit decorated with elaborate gold embroidery and a red sash. He wasn’t wearing the glasses he would normally wear, but that just made it easier to see his gorgeous blue eyes. He bowed and began to walk effortlessly down the aisle, maintaining perfect posture and an even pace. His eyes were focused on the front where he would be greeted by his mother, father, majordomo, and Archbishop. The trumpets ceased as Thomas stood mere feet in front of the archbishop and bowed. The archbishop began his disquisition, pausing briefly every so often to give Thomas a chance to respond. “You may face your people,” he instructed. Thomas turned around, skimming the room briefly before something caught his eye. He paused to gaze at the emerald green dress littered with golden accents, eyes slowly drifting upwards to see the gorgeous face of the woman he’d come to love in this short time. He admired how her loose curled hair perfectly framed her soft features, skin accentuated by both the color of her hair and the color of her dress. She looked perfect. She always did.
Thomas gave her a soft, authentic smile that screamed ‘you look beautiful.’ Y/N looked down momentarily with a sheepish smile gracing her deep red lips. She returned her glance to his eyes and kept it there, both smiling lovingly at each other until the archbishop continued with his disquisition. “Look upon your people, the people you swear to protect, lead, and bring justice to. Speak your vows as you hold the Orb of Unity and Mercy in one hand and the Scepter of Leadership and Justice in the other.” The majordomo approached him and placed both items into his hands. Taking the golden, jewel encrusted orb in one hand and matching scepter in the other, he began to speak his vows. “I, Prince Thomas William Hiddleston of Audrilluria, solemnly swear to lead my country with a gentle but firm hand,” he spoke in a thunderous, determined tone. “I will bring justice to my people, be merciful, and remain forever loyal to my people and my predecessors. On this day, I take an oath to be a just, moral king and put the good of my people first. On this day, I vow to be a dignified king.”
“You may proceed to take your place on the throne,” the archbishop instructed. Thomas turned, still holding both sacred items, and made his way up the stairs as the majordomo spoke the Audrillurian creed in Latin. Once he stood in front of the throne, he turned to face the crowd once more and slowly sat down. The majordomo approached his father, still reciting the creed, and removed the king’s crown from his head. He walked up to the throne with it in his hands. Once he stood directly in front of Thomas, he placed the crown on Thomas’s head. The majordomo then took the sacred items from him and went to return them to their rightful place in the gilded royal chest.
“Place your right hand on Audrilluria’s heart and complete your vows,” the archbishop commanded. The majordomo returned to Thomas’s side and removed a piece of velvet fabric from the stand next to the throne. There it was. The famed Heart of Audrilluria. The only reason Y/N was standing so close to the throne at that very moment. Still looking to the crowd, Thomas placed his hand on the glass box containing the necklace and spoke, “I, Prince Thomas, son of King James, heir to the throne of my ancestors, pledge to do everything I swore to and continue to lead Audrillore in peace and harmony.”
“Stand now and complete the ceremony of your coronation,” spoke the archbishop.
Thomas removed his hand from the glass and stood from his throne. He continued to look in the direction of the guests, maintaining his chin up with a proud expression etched onto his features. “I present to you, Thomas William Hiddleston, King of Audrillore,” the majordomo announced. Everyone in the room bowed as the trumpets began to play once more, their song welcoming their new king.
~~~~~~~~~~
As soon as the coronation ended, the guests were moved to the castle’s ballroom to begin the celebration of the new king. It was well into the hours of the afternoon and the ballroom was filled with people surrounded by music that made it slightly difficult to hear nearby conversations. Y/N stood near a window watching as stars began to light up the sky, waiting patiently to be reunited with Amelie so the plan would begin. As if on queue, Amelie walked up to her, wearing her navy blue dress with silver glitter accents. “Are we ready to go?” she asked, not looking away from the window. “We are, I’ll approach Thomas as soon as he walks in. Tell Edmundo to get the guards ready,” Y/N replied. With that, Amelie nodded and left in search of their ally.
Once she was sure Amelie wasn’t around, Y/N turned to look at the people dancing around the room and began to make her way further into the room. This reminded her of the first party she attended at the castle. It was equally as crowded, if not more, and she felt slightly out of place. Pushing those feelings away, she walked up to a group of mingling nobles she’d spoken to countless times before. She imagined the topic of tonight’s conversation would be the coronation and all its splendor.
Everyone in the room stopped what they were doing when the familiar trumpets began to play a short tune. “Presenting his highness, King Thomas,” a footman spoke. Thomas walked in wearing his simpler, post coronation crown and everyone in the room bowed to him once more. He began to make his way to the dancing area and the crowd parted, allowing him to pass. A soft, orchestral song began to play as he arrived at the dancing area.
Instantly, his eyes began to search for the one person he wanted to invite to dance. Eyes landing on her enchanting presence, he extended his hand to her in a silent invitation to join him for a dance. Y/N walked to him and took his hand, knowing this would be the last dance they’d ever share. Pulling her in closer, Thomas began to lead her in the waltz they shared on the night of Rosamund’s Celebration. They looked deeply into each other’s eyes as they swayed majestically around the room. Her dress flowed with every step they took. Everyone in the room seemed to have disappeared as they danced in their own little words. Everything Y/N felt for the man holding her was silently communicated with her eyes. Thomas’s eyes did the same as they continued to gaze into each other’s eyes. Slowly, the song that played began to end, and with it, the comforting barrier that separated them from the rest of the room. When the final notes were played, Thomas spun her around and bowed. The guests cheered when the song ended and slowly began to resume their previous places in the room, some joining the couple in the dance area.
Thomas and Y/N never broke their eye contact, even after they were surrounded by the other guests. “Come with me,” Thomas spoke suddenly, breaking their loving silence. Y/N simply nodded, knowing full where they were going and what would happen next. He took her hand, beginning to lead her through the sea of people. While Thomas was distracted, maneuvering them through everyone, Y/N looked around the room for Amelie. Once she met her sister’s eyes, she gave her a nod, signaling that the second phase of the plan was about to begin.
They made their way out towards the hall that led to the grand staircase covered with red carpeting that connected the first and second floor. Silently, they made their way up the stairs, Y/N holding the front of her dress so she wouldn’t fall. Even if she did trip, she was sure Thomas would catch her. He was a gentleman in that way.
Walking through the hallway of the second floor, they approached an all too familiar door. Thomas opened the door to the office, allowing her to enter before he did. They walked through the room headed for the balcony once more. Once they reached it, Thomas opened the door for her again and they entered the balcony close together. Y/N admired the many stars in the sky, wishing she could stay there longer. Wishing she didn’t have to go through with the plan. “The stars are beautiful, aren’t they?” Thomas asked suddenly, causing her to look to him briefly before returning to the stars. “Where I live, we don’t see this many because of all the light pollution that comes with living in the city,” she replied. Thomas smiled at her, despite her not seeing it. “Will you miss seeing this many stars?” he asked, slowly wrapping his arms around her middle. “I’ll miss everything about this place,” she breathed, desperately trying to swallow the lump forming in her throat.
They fell once more into a comfortable silence as they both admired the stars above them. Y/N wished this wouldn’t end. She wished she could stay here, in his arms, instead of having to break his heart. But she knew that wasn’t possible. In a few minutes, a footman would enter the room and take him away from her. In a few minutes, she would lose him forever.
“Stay with me,” Thomas said softly, still looking up at the stars. Y/N turned to face him in surprise. “What?” she muttered, turning fully in his arms as he looked down at her. “Stay here with me,” he repeated, arms still wrapped around her waist, “I want a future here with you. I want to spend the rest of my life knowing I can see your beautiful face everyday. I want to someday marry you and have you be mine for as long as you want. I’m willing to do anything for you. It doesn’t matter to me that we’ve only known each other for two weeks. I am prepared to do anything so long as it means I may have you by my side.”
Tears began to well in her eyes. Why would he do this now? Why couldn’t this just be a final goodbye. “I want to,” she whispered, “I really do, but I have to go back home.” Thomas looked at her with the softest eyes she’d ever seen. “Then there is no reason for us not to still be together. Even if our relationship is separated by two thousand miles,” he murmured. There is, she thought, I’m a thief that doesn’t deserve your affection. “We’ll fall apart,” she objected, “Long distance relationships never work out.” “We can make it,” he said hopefully, “I love you enough to make anything work. And if it gets too hard, I will go to Spain in person and visit you for as long as you want me there.” Y/N sighed, “Audrillore needs its king.” Thomas smiled softly at her words, holding on to her a little tighter. “And a king needs his queen,” he countered. Looking down to her lips, Thomas began to lean in slowly. Y/N wanted to lean into the impending kiss. She knew she couldn’t. She shouldn’t. Yet, she chose not to pull away.
“Your majesty,” a man called out, standing in the middle of the office. Quickly, Thomas and Y/N pulled away. “The Earl of the Algar republic requests your presence immediately,” he continued. Thomas groaned silently, trying his best not to show any displeasure. “May you give us a minute?” he asked, desperately wanting him to leave so that he could kiss his beloved. “Afraid not, majesty,” the footman shook his head, “The earl said it was urgent and that he wouldn’t take no as a satisfactory answer.” Thomas sighed deeply, turning to look back at Y/N. “I will escort Lady Santiago back to the ballroom. You must hurry,” he concluded. Thomas walked closer to Y/N, putting his index finger and thumb under her chin, caressing her cheek. “We will continue this later, my dear,” he said in the softest voice she’d heard from him. Y/N nodded as much as she could before Thomas pulled away and began his journey down the hall to the staircase.
It’s time, Ms. L/N,” he said to her, walking out of the room with her close behind. They made their way down the hall in the opposite direction of the staircase. When they approached the guarded door, the footman nodded at the guards, signaling  that it was time. Both guards nodded back and one opened the door for her. As Y/N stepped into the room, one of the guards spoke, “Put the earpiece on once the necklace is secured. Edmundo will give you instructions to exit the castle without being seen and to the getaway car. You have ten minutes.”
With that, the door closed behind her. Y/N took the gloves out of her pockets and slipped them on. She then reached behind her and unclipped the dress’s skirt from the corset of the dress, leaving her in black leggings with the thigh bag around her right leg. After placing the skirt on the floor neatly, she made her way to the two glass boxes. The replica was in the box that was uncovered, while her target was in the one under the same velvet fabric she saw in the ceremony. Carefully, she uncovered her target’s box and set the fabric aside. Y/N looked at the heart in the center of the necklace. Her mind began to think about what would happen once the job was done. She began to think about Thomas. No, not now.
Her mind began to race and her hands began to shake. An awful feeling spread through her body. She couldn’t do this now. He would never forgive him. She would never see him again, but it still hurt to think about his love for her becoming the deepest of hate. Y/N let her arms fall to her sides. She couldn’t do it. Not now.
“Five minutes,” one of the guards called out. She had to do this. She didn’t have a choice, it had to be done. Making up her mind, she took a pen she’d gotten from the office earlier out of one of the skirt pockets and used it to lift the glass from the bottom. Once she was able to grab it safely, she took it out and looked into its deep blue heart. The feeling returned, this time, it was ten times as strong. Looking around the room, she noticed a solitary desk where she could leave the pen. She glanced back at the necklace in her hands and bit her lip. “Two minutes.”
One of the guards opened the door to the guarded room. Before he was able to say anything, however, Y/N walked out of the room, skirt back in place, earpiece in, and a determined look gracing her features. She nodded at the guards, beginning her walk down the hallway in the direction Edmundo was describing in the earpiece. Phase four of the plan had begun.
A/N: That took longer than I though it would, but nevertheless, it is done. I hope you enjoyed this long chapter, I had a lot of fun writing it and I was looking forward to this one the most. I based the coronation ceremony loosely on Princess Diaries 2, Frozen, and an actual coronation video I found. What did you think? Also, what do you think about the dress I picked? Feel free to let me know. Thank you to all of the people that took the dress color survey, it really helped me out a lot. Anyway, thank you guys so much for reading and all the support!! I love you all so much and I wish you the very best!! Stay safe and I’ll see you tomorrow night for chapter 15!!
Such A Joker 37
SAJ Part 36
~
"How are you going to do it?" I ask holding Jerome's cold hand. "Sending waves of high electricity and jump-starting the brain should trail with the elements of the awakening."
A loud laugh echoes through the warehouse causing me to fight green eyes I lost long ago. "He's going to fry me!" Jerome laughs looking down at himself.
"Well looks like when this is all over you won't need that replacement any more."
Xander. Crap.
Jerome giggles clapping his hands together. "He's not real anyway, doll. Don't worry about it. You think you've been living a life without me to help you along?" Jerome pets my head kissing the crown of my head and grabs my cheek. "Aw, sweets, you do need me."
Everything I've done in the past couple of months has been fake? It would explain how closely Xander and Jerome resemble each other. Maybe I am just crazy. Maybe I never was cured.
Maybe I just need to be free again.
"If you don't want to get shocked Ms. Gordon I would advise you to remove your hand." Dwight places clips on Jerome's body and flips switches making a huge machine hum with power.
Dwight giggles as he rests his hand on a large lever. "HOLD ONTO YOUR HATS FOLKS!" The lever is forced over and lightning fires within the room. Dwight cackles at my poor lover's body gets fried.
"Come on Jerome. Come on, baby." I beg, gripping the chair for life.
Soon after the machine clams down and Jerome is still lifeless. I grab his hand weeping. "J?" I lean down trying to listen for a heartbeat any sign of life.
"He's still dead." Dwight's assistant addressed. "I know he's still dead. I ran into some technical difficulties. Nothing that I can't fix."
"Is everything plugged in?" "Yes." "Try turning it on and off." "I did! Three times."
"Look, you have spent the last year telling everyone that the Prophet would return. People have made sacrifices for you, Dwight. I left a really good job at the post office. The police are coming, and you promised them Jerome. The others expect to hear him speak. They want to see his face and if you can't do that-"
"You know, you make an interesting point."
Dwight walks near, grazing Jerome's face. "What are you doing?" I gasp seeing a small scapula in his hands. Dwight smiles and rests a hand on my cheek.
"Shh."
the black bag is thrown over my head and I'm forced away from Jerome.
~
I'm sat in a chair now fully handcuffed and unmoving. I groan moving my arms and resiting against the restraints.
"Don't move too much, doll. You'll bruise your pretty wrists." Jerome whispers in my ear. "You're not even here!"
"Not yet."
"Brothers and sisters, I promised you Jerome would return and today your faith is rewarded. Jerome is here, and so is our Queen!"
The bag is ripped off my head and I'm set on stage for the whole cult to see. I look up the stairs behind me and feel my heart sink.
Jerome's face is being used as a mask for this wannabe! Dwight prances down the steps wearing my lover's face!
"Behold the Prophet. The Prophet is here." Dwight grabs my hair raising me to a standing position. "We are back!"
The crowd screams in protest of their false leader. "Where's Jerome?" "Where's the hell's Jerome?"
Dwight groans pulling me forward. "The Prophet is here. Tell them, (y/n)!" I glare at him smirking at the mask. "You'll never be Jerome. You will never even meet the standers." Dwight hisses and throws me to the pavement harshly making the crowd scream.
"The Prophet is here! Listen to me! Jerome is here. He never left us. Each of you kept him alive. Each of you is Jerome. I am Jerome. We are all Jerome."
The cult chats over and over again getting louder every time. Dwight rips me from the floor and holds me in his arms. "Kiss me, doll face." I glare at him and turn my head. "I only kiss men with scary smiles."
"Then I don't need you." His voice is thick with venom and he tosses me into the crowd. "Remove the toxic cog! She has resented me. She has disrespected Jerome!" They push me away and out the door scraping my legs and arms every time they push me to the ground until I exit the building and run into town in search of my father.
I run into the GCPD panicked. "Dad." Lee catches me as I stumble past. "(Y/n)! What happened?"
"Dwight! He took- He cut off his face!" I cry out letting my tears fall. Lee leads me to Jim in an examination room.
"(y/n), god where have you been?" I fling into his arms crying. "Dwight took me. He- He's wearing Jerome's face! He cut it off, Dad." I sob in his chest as he smooths my hair back.
"(y/n)." Lee says grabbing my attention. "We know." I turn around seeing my faceless Jerome laying on the table.
I cover my mouth choking on my sobs. "Why couldn't they just leave you alone?" I whisper and touch his shoulder still feeling the coldness of the grave.
"I was going through the evidence you recovered from the scene. That phone was on the corpse next to Jerome. The last number came from the precinct." Lee explains passing over a flip phone to my father.
"Wait. You're saying someone in this house tipped them off?" I ask never taking my eyes away from Jerome.
" It would make sense. They cleared out moments before we got there." "So we got a freaking mole? Is there any way to know who called?" "The number came up as the main."
"So you can't make some kind of gadget to figure it out?" I look up meeting my father and Lee. "Why don't you just flood them out? You have the phone. Go call the number back from the floor and see who sweats." They both nod and move to exit the room until Jim grabs my wrist.
"I'll let you say goodbye, (y/n). Properly this time." I smile and wipe my tears away. "Thanks, dad."
A quiet room surrounds me and all I can do is stare at the faceless man I've loved for years. I sit next to him playing with his fingertips. "I wonder where we would've ended up if we skipped Gotham together. You might be here. I might not be crazy. We might be happy."
I let a tear slip from my eye sighing. "I've just lost the fire in me. It was all connected to you Jerome, and now I feel empty, but I know I have to get healthy. I need to stay strong. You were always worried about me stepping out alone in Gotham. So I can't live how we want. I'm going to have to be a fucking cog, and be the boring detective's daughter again. I'm just sorry you can't be here to laugh at me."
I close my eyes crying alone. I miss him so much.
"Detective's daughter, huh? I could make it work."
I giggle opening my eyes and looking over to the corner expecting the ghost that keeps me company, but the room is empty.
"Looking for someone, doll?" I avert my eyes down and see the faceless Jerome smiling widely at me. I drop his hand covering my mouth in shock. Jerome laughs looking at the hand I was previously holding. "Strang."
He sits up staring at me with his green eyes. "I know you. Don't I?" I nod my head feeling a smile creep its way up my cheeks.
The door opens and closes shut and not a second later Jerome has my gun pointed at my head and is threatening Lee. She looks at me with wide eyes. "(y/n)." I shake my head sighing. "It's alright. He won't shoot me." Jerome tightens his grip digging the end of the gun in my head. "Is that so?"
I smiled turning around to meet his eyes. "I know you. Don't I, Jerome?" He stares at me and begins to cackle madly. "You've got me, honey." He then points the gun at Lee. "Game change! Now tell me. What's going on?"
I sigh walking to the door and blocking it from entry. "(y/n), what are you doing?" Lee asks panicked. I roll my eyes picking up medical supplies to wrap Jerome's face. "Looks like I'm taking care of your patient. Now tell him what's going on." "Why do you do it?" I laugh rolling out the gauze. "Well I'm not the one with the gun pointed at them, am I?"
I watch Lee's facial expression change from confused to realization. "You never changed did you?" I roll my eyes walking over to Jerome.
"Gosh, you sound like my father." I place one end starting at Jerome's neck. "Hold please." He smiles and holds the cloth down.
"Storytime. Let's go!"
Lee proceeds to tell him the recap of his last living months, and everything that's happened in between.
He throws his head back laughing. "Wow. Now that I quite a story. You know, I know I've been dead, but doesn't that seem kind of crazy to you?" Jerome looks at me laughing.
Lee tilts her head smiling sarcastically. "Hey, maybe you're dreaming. Try shooting yourself." Jerome hums putting the gun to his head making me giggle. "Makes sense. Maybe you're right. Is this my angel?" He points to me winking.
"Hey, tell me more about this cult. They think I'm pretty great, huh?" I roll my eyes spinning in the chair. "They're a bunch of raving lunatics and idiots."
"Plus they have no respect for their queen."
Lee raises an eyebrow at me. "They didn't even get me a crown."
"Aw, baby don't you worry. I'll get you the biggest crown in the city." Jerome says pinching my cheek. He groans grabbing at his head. "Sorry. Head's a little fuzzy. You know, I was just reborn. Last year was nothing but darkness as far as the eye can see."
I sit next to Jerome patting his shoulder lightly. He looks over at me and tilts his head. "I know both of you, right?" He giggles smirking at me.
"Hey, did you and I ever, uh..." Jerome places the gun suggestively near his crotch and winks at me. I nod returning his wink. "Ah, I knew you were something else, doll. Long history?" "Another story for another time, love."
Jerome waves my gun at Lee laughing.
"That's right, (Y/n) Goron, the crazy, badass, sexy daughter of Jimbo. It's good to have you back sweetheart. Now that leaves you. You're Jim Gordon's little Twinkie." Jerome moves closer pressing the gun against Lee's face making me smile.
"How's it going between you and Jimbo? Huh? You still together, or..." "No." "No?" Jerome turns to me, "You knew this? Daddy can't keep a girl huh? Oh, that's a shame. I really liked you guys. What happened?" Jerome lays his arm over my shoulder pulling me to his side.
"He killed my husband on our wedding night." Jerome starts to laugh pulling me along. "Glad you two find it funny."
"I do. I get why you don't. Wow. You miss a lot of being dead!" He laughs again. He pulls me close and kisses my head.
"You know what? Go ahead, enjoy it. There are about a hundred cops on the other side of that door ready to kill you all over again, and all they'll do for (y/n) is lock her up in Arkham."
I huff rolling my eyes leaning my head on Jerome's chest. "I see your point."
"So, when I was last, you know, uh, alive, I was about to kill Bruce Wayne. I suppose I didn't manage to-" We shake out heads. "No. Right. Theo Galavan killed me, that jug-eared Judas. Well, I suppose I should start by killing him. Does that sound like a good plan, doll? I'll let you get the first swing."
"Theo Galavan's dead, J." "Oh Who beat me to it?" "W-Which time?" I grit my teeth as I feel Jerome grow tense. "Galavan came back to life, too? That son of a bitch is always upstaging me. Well, I guess I'm just missing one thing, then." Jerome presses the gun to Lee's face again. "Where is my face?"
I push myself off the chair and tap Jerome's shoulder. "I can help with that." I turn on the TV finding the station showing Dwight making a speech wearing Jerome's face. Jerome watches the TV closely. "Huh. Interesting. Looks almost like my twin!" Jerome cackles with glee.
