✦Zed, the Master of Shadows; taking his mask off.

Only with you Zed doesn’t mind taking his mask, that usually stays on him, off. In every long and exhausting mission that he participates in, in every training with adepts of the Shadow Order, he prefers to keep his mask on. He does that not only to appear more professional for his students nor to stay quite anonymous, but secretly, deep inside, what only you know, he does not desire to be identified with the majestic yet murderous figure he has created. His armor is both his shield on the bloody battlefield where many dies, but also something distancing him from other people. He is there for them physically, but offers none of his simple humanity. But with you and only you, he - with a lot of effort (a little help with opening up from you was always appreciated by him) - lets his guard down. Though he seldom does that, mostly when all his problems eventually overwhelm him. The moment is always intimate, in his private room, when he takes his mask off, his sharp gaze fixed on you or the floor. That was not the first time you saw his face, but you couldn’t help but admire him. You gently took his face in your hands with a delicate and slow move, as a hidden for so long tear rolled from his eye. Besides his mask, in those rare moments, Zed tends to take off his armor too, so you can see his bare back, sculped with scares and black, sinister-looking tattoos - a painful memory of his past and the power that the unmerciful shadows wield in themselves.

✦Shen, the Eye of Twilight; devoting his time to you.

Shen is a kind man to everybody. With his esteemed reputation as a defender of Ionia, the keeper of balance that everyone lurks for in this land, everyone respects him. He is a patient teacher to every person, his student or not, and he is always there for them. That’s why he is a trustworthy leader that everyone can find comfort in - and you know exactly about this. As much as he is an anchor for his loved ones, you are so, so special for him, that he obviously treats you with a different kind of respect than others. Shen tries to be always by your side, usually sliding a reasurring hand on your back if you are comfortable with it, to make you feel that he is there for you, ready to both protect and give himself fully - either to open up or just comfort each other, rest and appreciate the others’ company. Shen lets his small moves that he only gifts to you slid when you are both alone or when he thinks nobody sees you two - not because he wants to keep your relationship a secret, but he feels like these moments with you are only for you two. Nobody should bother or distract you - that’s the irreplacable time he dedicates to give you his full attention.

✦Kayn, the Shadow Reaper; letting himself be vunerable around you.

As the successor of the Shadow Order and Zed’s mightiest student, Kayn carries on his back expectations of both his surrounding and himself. And, in addittion, the Darkin, a curse that lives in him. But when alone, only you two, disturbed only by Rhaast and his presumptuousness, he lets himself be just him. Gentle and quite lazy, as he tends to lay with his head on your lap while taking almost all the space on his own bed. Kayn secretly enjoys you taking care of him, letting you see his vunerable and sweet side. When far from ubiquitous gazes, where you can get some privacy, the Shadow Reaper feels no longer like being forced to challenge everyone in his sight or proving them that he is worthy of becoming the next Master of Shadows. You put no pressure on him, you understand him as no one else does, and he appreciates your every move, when you show him how comfortable he can be around you. And you, the only person that treats him gently, see him as a normal human being he is. So even when you stroke his silk, dark hair with slow moves and soft hands, that next slide down to hold his face in them, he is not disturbed by Rhaast muttering about Kayn’s weakness. Because he is not weak when with you. He is just himself.

✦Thresh, the Chain Warden; sharing his story with you.

Because how obsessive Thresh is and how he can push himself to manipulate everyone and everything for his beloved one, some might think this man is actually not capable of love, at least not a healthy kind of it. And maybe it is true; maybe the connection between you two is none of an exemplary illustration portrayed by others, but there’s one thing that assures you Thresh’s intentions are clear and, actually, lovely. This man of course would never admit this willingly, maybe only to make you flustrated, but he has showed you his gargantuan collection of souls not only to impress you. He wants you to understand why are they trapped there, where he can toy with them, forcing them to face their merciful owner. They are in here not only because he is a sadistic soulkeeper - which was a surprise for you - but because they heve to suffer like he did. You are the only one, only one alive, who has been priviliged with the knowledge of his past - how the whole Blessed Isles betrayed him and how he has sworn to bring retribution on those who dared opposing him. He shared his story with you while walking past the cages, countless souls screaming inside for justice. Thresh appreciates what a good listener you make and how you seem to not judge him, based on the person he was long way before.

✦Pyke, the Bloodharbor Ripper; assuring you with simple words.

This man knows better than anyone else how is it like to be betrayed by others. Well, he paid his life for understanding that trust is a powerful weapon; that it should not be given so easly to people. Pyke struggles with something that you might call trust issues, though he would never admit that something so trivial might affect him so much. Neverthless, you were the first person after his, well, death, to hear from him that he truly trusts you. As straightforward as he is, Pyke frequently mutters to you something about how much he trusts you and how important it is to him. It would be almost adorable to hear such words from a ruthless killer with a soft spot for you, if it wasn’t just upsetting how a betrayal can break a man. Eventually, nothing says more than simple and particular words which come with honest intencions; he does not hide that he wants you to feel special about being able to read him like a book. You earned this man’s trust and he show that in such simple acts, like just letting you around him, which is not a priviledge every mortal may possess, as Pyke is know for his… strong reputation in Bilgewater.

Well, after drawing 88 different skeletal characters, here it is, the full series of "A Buncha Boneheads"! I was originally going to try and sell this as a poster but after looking into it, I don't think I can do that unless I want to deal with several dozen copyright laws.

This was quite the fun little exercise for me- the biggest challenge was trying to emulate the art styles of so many different series and properties. There are definitely more skull-headed characters out there that I could add, but frankly I think a nice even 88 is good enough, and there are other projects I want to work on for the future. Overall I'm pretty proud of this.

With that said, let me know if I've made a spelling mistake or something anywhere on here- I've tried my best but I just know I missed one or two somewhere.

Death's keepers, are Sun, Moon and Earth apart of this au? If so what kinda role do they play? ^^

Ye, they’re apart of this au!

Sun (Day), Moon (Twilight), and Earth (Sweet) are still daycare attendants—Sun and Moon do their usual jobs and Earth helps out, especially with the special needs kids since she’s better programmed for that—and the timeline takes place sometime around when Earth was still new to the pizzaplex, so death’s keepers Moon is still technically old Moon though a little less of an asshole.

The main difference between these three and the others (Eclipse, Lunar, the twins, etc) is that they are not reapers, they’re just normal animatronics. The ones that are reapers usually have something to do with the Killcode in them (Moon is not included in this because of the fact he and KC have fully separated and that the “Killcode” is basically just the coding that determines that they are a “reaper” so it all originated with KC)

There’s still tension between them and Eclipse and the others but for different reasons since Eclipse wasn’t Moon’s creation and instead KC’s.

Moon isn’t a big fan of the reapers hanging around, especially because of what they do as a “job” and how powerful and potentially dangerous they can be, even with Eclipse’s reasoning and, Moon being Moon, he’s challenged Eclipse multiple times which has led to tension and a sort of rivalry between the two.

Sun is less…confrontational though she’s still wary and unsure of the reapers, especially the twins as they are quite unruly and aggressive and only really listen to Eclipse (she hates it when they roughhouse in the daycare and make a big mess though she does appreciate it when Eclipse helps clean up their mess, as secretive as he is about it lol)

Earth is the least wary of the three and she actually quite enjoys having the reapers around. She may not like everything they do, and the twins and Eclipse do unsettle her a bit, though she tries to make them feel welcome and has even apologized for Moon’s behavior several times, much to Eclipse’s confusion. She gets along the best with Lunar (who was also the first one to win over Sun and Moon) and he even sneaks in to help her with and entertain the kiddos when he can.

Hi! For the WIP game - Breakfast Series? 👀

Heyyyy!! So, I decided a while ago to turn Breakfast into a series. Lunch will be next and will cover Natasha & Kaidan overcoming what they witnessed on Horizon (both times), and is set during the Apollo's date 🥰

I'll finish the series with Dinner, which will be Natasha's more canon compliant version of the Citadel DLC and the apartment date with Kaidan 🥰 since in my long fic that whole ordeal is very different.

Here's a little snippet from what I have of Lunch's intro:

The Presidium was still recovering from the damage caused by the Cerberus troops that had invaded the Citadel weeks ago. With less access to resources, and limited personnel available for repairs, it would take longer to get back to normal. Even with the help of the Keepers. Despite the considerable mess around them, Apollo’s was bustling. Every table was occupied, and the pleasant hum of chatter filled the air.

Somehow, this only seemed to add to the anxiety Kaidan felt as he sat alone at a table among his fellow patrons. He’d chosen this seat carefully. It was set in a corner, further away from the others, and had a pleasant view out into the rest of the Presidium.

In the weeks since Udina’s attempted coup, and his final reconciliation with Natasha, she’d somehow agreed to this ridiculous idea he’d had for them to finally go on their first date. They’d never had the opportunity to do this before, since their relationship had been kept a careful secret. The circumstances had changed, time had passed, and now seemed like the perfect time.

It felt odd, though. To be going on a first date with someone he was already completely in love with. Yet here he sat, nervously waiting for her as if she’d stand him up at this point.

He absentmindedly adjusted his sleeve, making sure it was still neatly rolled up to his elbow. Thankfully the material of his button up shirt was thin enough to allow ample airflow, keeping him cool despite the slight heat of the Presidium. Each minute that passed felt like an eternity. He checked the time on his omni-tool, again. He’d shown up twenty minutes early, to ensure they’d have a good seat. He wasn’t entirely sure why, but he felt as if this date needed to be perfect. They’d been through so much. Both recently, and over the last three years. He glanced around at his fellow patrons, his eyes moving across their faces as he wondered how many of them were refugees. Likely, most of them were, since most of the homeworlds had fallen by this point. There wasn’t much good news coming in concerning the Reaper War. But at least he had this.

Chapter 12: Echoes | Read on Ao3

06 April 2184, Pangea Expanse, Refuge System, Ilos

Another meaningless stream of data scrolls across the console Liara had finally managed to activate this morning. Same as the others. It could be the exact information she is looking for, or it could be as mundane as a supply manifest.

Prothean technology has never been simple to access or understand, but everything on Ilos is doubly so. She’d always theorized that prothean technology relied on a physiological interface to truly unlock, but the beacons had confirmed it. A physiological interface she isn’t wired for.

She sighs in frustration and wipes sweat from her brow before taking another draught of water from her canteen. This deep in the archives the worst of Ilos’ heat is kept at bay, but the stale, stagnant air does little for comfort. Once more she considers trading her work clothes in favor of her hardsuit. At least it has a temperature control unit.

There was a time when she loved the sweat and the dirt of a dig site. She cannot ever recall wasting precious moments bemoaning the climate on Therum. Not with all the secrets buried there.

But that was before Shepard. Before the reapers. Back when she had all the time in the galaxy to dig up those secrets, and daydream about what they might show her.

Now, time is a noose. And it is tightening. She simply does not know how quickly.

One of the human Alliance contractors, Lucero she thinks her name is, jogs over to hand Liara a ration box.

“Figured you’d forget to eat again if I didn’t come find you,” she says with a cheerful grin.

“Thank you,” Liara replies with a gracious nod, before checking her chronometer. “It is…later than I realized.”

Lucero hangs for a moment as if she wants to ask a question, but when Liara goes back to her work, the human loses her nerve and heads back to where she came from. The fewer questions, the better.

Outside the Council and the Normandy’s crew, the rediscovery and significance of Ilos remains largely unknown, and Admiral Hackett appears committed to keeping it that way. He rotates everyone in and out so quickly their curiosity could not be sated even if Liara were obliged to try. Of course, the challenge is that she is constantly bringing new people up to speed.

Only parts of the archive have been repowered. All efforts to restore Vigil have thus far failed. After nearly two months she has little to show for her efforts.

She turns back to the console.

The answers are here. They have to be.

The prothean scientists had done their research here. They had built the conduit here. Discovered how to modify the reaper signal to the keepers here. She just needs the key to unlock it all.

Shepard was the key.

What can only be described as a persistent itch drives the Reaper to seek out the Arch-Tempter. His presence has been spotty lately and makes the Bloodthirster suspicious. So this day, he intentionally seeks the Keeper of Secrets out with his nose.

"You have been scarce." He comments. "Why."

why am i doing this again?

so, i thought i'd make it easier finding stuff about me and my wips, a little masterlist of sorts.

Mass Effect 1 replay, Illos:

-You can’t end the Kaidan romance, but you can skip the sex scene. Kaidan takes being told no very well.

-Kaidan if you go paragon: Well, if I didn’t think you were doing the right thing I wouldn’t be here.

This is one of the reasons I really like Kaidan. The man’s made of integrity. He has his values and he won’t abandon them. It’s not that he’s not loyal – as he repeatedly mentions in this meeting, he’s likely to get court-martialed for helping Shepard. It’s that his loyalty is to beliefs he holds greater than an organization or a person.

This line is also an ouch knowing how ME2 goes. He doesn’t think Shepard’s doing the right thing so he doesn’t join up.

-For game purposes it makes sense, but I have to laugh when Joker calls in that the Normandy’s five minutes away from the Mu relay. I suppose I imagined exploring the system before choosing to land on Illos.

-And Joker mentions that stealth system are engaged, so the geth will only see the Normandy if the Normandy gets close enough for a visual.

Except as we learn in ME2 and are reminded in ME3, geth don’t do windows. Those are a structural weakness. :) So a visual was never a concern.

They really need to start adding windows. Not having them is a tactical weakness.

-Why does Saren walk to the conduit? What, was purchasing a mako too expensive? The geth couldn’t jury rig a vehicle?

Just saying, if he had driven instead of walked he could have turned the Citadel over to Sovereign long before Shepard caught up.

-Tali: My people once tried to find this world. We hoped we could settle here.

Logical enough, I suppose, but I have to wonder how serious of an effort they made. The Quarians never did a settle on another world after the geth drove them out. Why would Illos be different?

-It’s strange Liara never returned to Illos. She’s giddy the whole time she’s on the planet, for obvious reasons. I know there was a lot going on between ME1 and ME2 to keep her busy, but Illos feels like a much more logical trajectory for character. Make her the head archaeologist or the like for the planet.

-The statues on Illos are bizarre. As others have mentioned, they look like beings the Reapers might make – the tubes coming out of the faces don’t look natural, and the cord along the back of the neck looks husk like. They look fused to their chairs.

But if these are a species twisted by the Reapers, why are there statues of them? And why are the statues all over the planet?

-I do think the original plan was for the statues to be Protheans (or Protheans twisted by Reapers), and the appearance of Protheans was later retconned in ME2.

However, Prothean or Inusannon or being twisted by the Reapers, that still doesn’t explain why there statues are scattered all over the entrance to a top secret research facility.

-There are geth terminals scattered all over the place, including inside the facility. Why? How long has Saren been here?

The only reason I can think of for there to be so many terminals is if Saren’s been here a while trying to get the door open, so the geth settled in for the long term.

But if that’s the case, why didn’t Saren just blow the door open..?

-Which leads into why there are armature repair stations. How long has Saren been here that the geth are setting up repair stations??? And what is he doing that is causing the armatures to need repairs???

-Notably, the appearance of Vigil isn’t clear. It’s corrupted. While the obvious reason is to indicate how corrupted the VI is, it also left Bioware an easy out to retcon the appearance of the Protheans from the statues scattered all over the place. I don’t think that was an accident.

-Another good example of foreshadowing in ME1: The Keepers have been sketchy since they were introduced. No one knows what they are, no one knows how to communicate them, if you attempt to study them they die, and everyone’s dependent on them to keep the Citadel running. They’re a blackbox.

And Vigil explains that that’s intentional – the Reapers deliberately created the Keepers so organic species can settle in the Citadel without ever studying it closely enough to learn it’s a mass relay.

Very well executed Chekhov’s gun.

-Vigil says Reapers survive in dark space by going inactive. In this state, they’re vulnerable.

When I first heard this, I drew the (I though obvious) conclusion the method to defeat the Reapers would be to kill them while they’re inactive and, y’know, vulnerable.

I’m still disappointed the games didn’t take this route. It would have kept the plot between the three games tighter, and kept the Reapers more threatening – the organics only have a chance against the Reapers when the Reapers can’t fight back. If they wake up, it’s game over.

-Vigil says that the Reapers fought the Protheans by going world by world, system by system. Not all over the galaxy at once, like ME3.

Of course, they could do this because they had captured the Citadel at the start of the Prothean reaping and taken control of the mass relays.

Which would hold up better if they didn’t capture the Citadel near the end of ME3.

Why didn’t they just capture it at the start of ME3 so they could carry on with business as usual? And take control of the mass relays once they did finally capture it so the organics couldn’t, y’know, jump to Earth and attempt to reclaim the Citadel?

It’s possible to make this work by blaming it on hubris, the Reapers thought the organics would be easily crushed and only bothered to capture the Citadel once they realized they could fight back, etc… But since there aren’t any in-game reasons provided it sure feels like a hole.

-Vigil said the Reapers stripped the worlds of resources and technology.

Technology is obvious enough – they want to make it look like the Reapers were never here and control the development of future races.

But why the resources? What do the Reapers need those for?

-The Reapers recruited the geth because the Keepers evolved to only respond to the Citadel, rather than the Reapers. As non-organics the geth are more reliable.

Except, is that true? The geth do evolve – one of the points the game makes early on is that the geth have created new platforms that are more organic like, such as the sappers and hoppers. Tali flat out since they’re evolving on Noveria.

And if you want to incorporate ME2, the Reapers didn’t recruit all the geth. Just the heretics.

I feel like Vigil and Shepard are making an assumption here that doesn’t hold up.

-And on that note: I question how much Vigil knows versus how much he’s hypothesizing.

He knows more than he should – how does he know the details of the invasion? How does he that the records about Illos were destroyed in the initial attack on the Citadel? How does he know that Reapers are patient?

I suspect much of these are conclusions he’s drawn from what information he does have (radio broadcasts, observations based on Reaper behavior, etc.). But he doesn’t know it for a fact.

I’m mostly quibbling here over minor details, but Vigil’s one of the last info dumps of the game and how reliable he is as a source of information hugely influences how much we know of the Protheans end days.

-Does Saren know that the Citadel is a Mass Relay? If so, does he realize that he’s most likely going to die once Sovereign turns it on?

Indoctrination’s one of a hell drug, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he hasn’t put the pieces together.

However, I think it’s more likely he doesn’t realize that it’s a Mass Relay – on Virmire, he said Sovereign had promised he wouldn’t be indoctrinated if he helped find the Conduit.

I think Saren believes he’s helping Sovereign take control of the Citadel, which will lead to the rest of the Reapers invading (maybe through the primary relay?) and then Saren will be able to help direct the reaping in a way that doesn’t lead to all organics being destroyed.

Bullshit, obviously, but that’s indoctrination for yah.

-Vigil at the start of the conversation: You must understand what’s going so you don’t make the same mistakes we do.

Shepard: So, why are the Reapers destroying organic life every 50,000 years? Vigil: Does it matter? You need to stop them, not understand them.

Mate, you were the one that said I needed to understand all of this.

-Vigil said that when the Citadel was attacked, communications were disrupted.

However, the beacons were the Protheans communication network. Or at least a key component of it. And the surviving Prothean scientists sent out a message when they woke up in case there were any other survivors. That’s the message Shepard and Saren got.

So communications weren’t completely down across the empire. It doesn’t take much to make this work – maybe there was another system as well that went completely offline – but the Protheans could still communicate across worlds and systems.

-Liara: Who knows how much longer Vigil will be here? Even now the signal is weak.

Is it only Liara who says this, or do other characters have variants? I don’t recall anyone else saying something similar.

If not, that’s disappointing – this is great foreshadowing in ME2. I always thought that the Council saying that no one else spoke to Vigil was bullshit on Bioware’s part to discredit Shepard as much as possible so he’s forced to work with Cerberus. This provides justification for it.

-Why didn’t Saren destroy the conduit on the Citadel? He knew Shepard was on his heels – did he even try to destroy it after he came through?
