i've been meaning to do a short-by-shot breakdown of the trailers for the upcoming season of Doctor Who, and with full-length trailer #2 out today it seems like a good time.

this will cover the teaser trailer (dropped after the christmas special), trailers #1 and #2 (dropped March 22 and today respectively), and the YouTube short they've released with all the episode titles. I've previously looked at the premiere date teaser released March 15.

Title Drop Short

I'll start with this because it is the shortest and gives some helpful hints to identifying other clips.

The accompanying audio here is some babies crying as the lights flicker, showing the monster's shadow. Is the monster hunting the babies? Is it supposed to be protecting them?

What this screencap doesn't convey is the music notes lifting off the page on the far right. When looking up "The Devil's Chord" (aka the tritone) I find on Wikipedia that "George Harrison uses tritones on the downbeats of the opening phrases of the Beatles songs "The Inner Light", "Blue Jay Way", and "Within You Without You" - I'm clearly not big up on my George songs, and I think it would be hilarious if the Beatles-centric episode of Doctor Who winds up being specifically George Harrison-centric.

I can find no info on who Timothy Drake might be (besides Robin, but that feels like a long shot). There is a piece credited to Beethoven behind the book.

"Boom" - clearly The Moff trying to bring back the spooky one-word title steez of Blink and Hide and Listen and so on. This clip has falling rubble and a bit of lazer fire, and above the door we have written "Entrance 3"

We have a cawing corvid behind this one, as snow rushes past what looks like a sign for a pub. Pretty creepy sign!

The words appear in sequence with some electronic chimes here, before the whole thing glitches out. Social media episode?

Here we have the title for the episode that was provisionally known as "Regency", written by Kate Herron and Briony Redman. We have reference to "The Duchess of Pemberton", who is presumably "The Duchess" played by Indira Varma. 8 May 1813 is in fact in the Regency period, but I can't find any other historical significance to that date.

The multiple screens and tech set up here gives me the vibes of a television studio. Will Ruby turn out to be a Sam Jones situation, a companion orchestrated perfectly for the Doctor? I'd say that's unlikely but I'm not ruling it out.

Now THIS is a Doctor Who episode title. Go off king give us nothing!

Alright bearing those aesthetics in mind, let's move on to the teaser trailer that premiered after the Christmas special

Season Teaser

This trailer introduced us to the great, kinda creepy music that recurs throughout the rest of them. And a powerful gaze from Dr. Who themself.

I think I can connect this shot to a scene we'll see later.

We then pop to another stare, in a shirt we've already seen in the Christmas special - so this is probably Episode 1 ("Space Babies").

Lots of good stares this episode, as we also see him looking through a window in the premiere date teaser. Who is that behind him with Ruby?

Then he's running down a corridor, and I'm so glad they've chosen to give him loads of different outfits because that makes this job much easier.

This is undoubtedly in Episode 2. Is he racing to stop "The Devil's Chord" from being played? Or maybe he's going to find Ruby ensnared somewhere. More on that later.

Why is he wearing a whistle? Why are the lights so low?

Were they working out? I love it.

A TARDIS design has to have some good levers for yanking on. This one has that and a jukebox AND mood lighting. good for her!

"I have the whole universe at my fingertips" - this is only part of a quote, which we'll get more of in a later trailer. I like this spot on a cliff's edge that they end up on, and I've just noticed the silly little tree near the TARDIS. The Doctor fell deeply in love with Dingle's Door when they regenerated from 13 and now their go-to spot is gonna be precarious rocks overlooking the sea. Just my prediction. This is likely Episode 1 "Space Babies", given other clips we've seen of them popping out here in their Christmas special outfits.

A door opens, casting a shadow on Ruby as she looks somewhat dumbfounded at what lies on the other side. Judging by the costume, this is probably Space Babies too, and yeah it looks like there might be babies in jars behind Ruby there...

It really looks like he has fangs in this screencap. Again, probably Space Babies given the costume. But who knows!

He's slamming on a button. Possibly to "Reset Port B"?

Here is the Doctor dancing with Jonathan Groff in Episode 6 "Rogue", and nobody seems too interested in them, but then:

The Duchess (and those around her) have taken note of something.

I love his wig! Everyone has taken notice now, and there's clearly something that has interrupted their dance.

Here we've got the pair strutting along the TARDIS walkway, probably having just changed into these sweet outfits before heading to:

"Abbey Road Studios" in Episode 2 "The Devil's Chord"

They're freaking out I love them. This is a great second-trip in the TARDIS historical. The Doctor has fallen back on their old tricks, but at least they didn't end up in Cardiff again. They're in the recording booth here during a Beatles studio session.

Where is Ringo?!!!

There he is (:

The Doctor has stepped on something he shouldn't. This is presumably is "gonna be a minute!" in the other teaser I've looked at. Shot in the dark, this is from Episode 3 "Boom". Because of land mines. (And the rubble and lazer blasts in the Short seem to match the "warzone" vibe)

"I've really stepped in it now". This looks like similar lighting to the very first "intense stare" shot from the start of this trailer.

Salem’s Modern AU master list

Redesigns:

i accidentally tim drake-ified danny… i love skunk hair danny so i had to include it

Sam got a more punky hairstyle, and all her clothing is thrifted, handmade, or bought from cruelty free clothing brands

I gave danny and tucker matching dumpty humpty shirts, and decided that where danny’s accent color is red, sam’s is her pop of purple eyes, tucker’s should be yellow to set his pallet apart from danny and sam’s. they all got mainly black and gray clothing so the accent color is too differentiate their pallets.

For Paulina i went for the “clean girl” aesthetic. I wanted to keep the pink in the design but i just couldn’t get any shade to fit right with her palette and decided that it could get saved for different outfits

For Star, i definitely leaned into the small town “cheer is my life” mentality (because i’ve experienced it lmaoo) and made sure to give her a cheer crew neck that has accents to match her cheer uniform. As far as my search went, I couldn’t find any sort of canonical last name for star, so i gave her one with a US last name generator website. i input her first name as Star, birth year as 2004, and searched through the results until i found one that i liked, so she’s now Star Wilson.

Valerie got a more “effortlessly pretty” look than paulina and star. i kept her outfit simple with the lighter green to compliment her green eyes. i really liked the idea of a headband but i couldn’t fit it into a modern context with her outfit, so i went for a scarf style i saw on pinterest.

the casper high cheer uniform was pretty much ripped directly from my uniform in my freshman year but with a mock neck top and a slightly different skirt. the poms were referenced off my sophomore year poms, and the bow was based off one of my freshman bows. my coach never let us wear socks that weren’t ankle high or no show, but i love the “old school” vibe of the tall socks so i decided to bring them into my design.

i had no part in the creation of the background other than lighting effects and drawing star, her pose, and her uniform. the base image of the football field was pulled from pinterest.

My Modern AU is set in 2022-23, the kids were born in 2004-2005 so they’d be about 17/18 now.

(these are my current peers so i’m unfortunately very aware of how they act…)

Lost at sea isn’t that ideal, for you but Nathan seems to have other ideas! He takes your hand leading you to a large lake with so many autumn trees, surrounding the area. ‘Nate, what are we doing, exactly?’ You questioned, as he dips his leg into the water, you stop immediately, hands now on your waist giving him a glare. ‘I’m going for a swim, darling.’ He turns around, ‘care to join?’ He smirks, continuing to go back into the water. you didn’t even notice that his shirt is discarded on the path, right near your feet. You roll your eyes but going into the lake anyway, to join in with his attics. You swim to him, now in the middle of the lake ‘now this isn’t so bad is it?’ He whispers, right near your ear brushing some hair to comfort you. ‘Isn’t bad? Nathan!’ You dramatically outburst, ‘it is freezing,’ you scoff. ‘Come here then, Petal.’ He wraps his arms around your waist, cuddling you in the water, ‘let me warm you up,’ he chuckles, you let him share your body heat with him. ‘Nathan, I don’t know what your playing at! Because we are not dating.’ You stated, ‘oh, Yh well the fact that you got your arms around me says other wise Pretty girl,’ he winks laughing, ‘you like me, just admit it.’ You shake your head, going deeper into the lake together. He stops moving to hold you tighter, grabbing your chin and gently kissed you. You gasped at the moment, enjoying it as you and him actually like each other but just denying. Since you met the treasure Hunter there was so many adventures only you could ever imagine going on with him, from searching for maps and secrets, running away for ages to collecting treasures and jewels. You couldn’t ask for any better adventures! You kissing him back made you feel him smirking against your lips, gasping once again as he grips your but to slide his tongue into yours. ‘So will you be my Girlfriend, now Y/N?’ He asks sincerely, pulling away to talk. ‘Yes, Baby boy,’ smiling as you bring him back in for another kiss.

Cold Winter Aesthetic

Winter wonder land was coming up in the place of love, Paris. Nate found a love note a few weeks ago, keeping it safe with him at all time. He smiled at the thought of a pretty girl actually liking him for him, not just for the gold and treasures he collected. He had a suspicion that it was the girl, that he really liked at a snow boarding event he went to last month. Figuring out that, she was the girl he lasted talk to, who smiled and is genuine with him. Plus, when he left he had a note in his pocket, all the clue do add up he thought. Walking in Paris seeing so many couples at winter wonderland, he might be able to find you even-though, the chances are pretty slim. He turns around to see the Eiffel Tower, stopping dead in his tracks he sees you alone in the snow. He runs to you, you look up smiling at him. ‘Hey,’ you say, smiling at his appearance. ‘Hey,’ breathing slowly, ‘do you want to go to winter wonderland with me as a date?’ Your eyes widen in disbelief, you was nervous that he would reject your offering of a note. ‘How did you know I gave you that note?’ You questioned, curiously. ‘I am a treasure Hunter, Darling,’ he cheekily bites his lips, winking at you. ‘Yes, of course, Nate.’ You kiss his lips, him taken back by surprised as he deepens the kiss ‘I’m glad we found each other, Y/N,’ he whispers in between kisses, ‘me too,’ you smile. Walking hand in hand through the snow to winter wonderland. After the event, you and Nate go into a cafe to drink hot chocolate together. Just the perfect first date!

Tagged by @iamstartraveller776 and @lazymeriadoc (thank you! 💕) to share 8 TV shows that hold a special place in my heart:

1. Sherlock (BBC) (2010-2017)

My first true TV and fandom love. Once wrote an essay on Sherlock as a visual text and ‘writing London’ for the viewer through its cinematography. (Because I knew it so well and my lecturer let me.)

2. The Hour (BBC) (2011-2012)

Ben Whishaw as a mid-century sardonic journalist at the dawn of British news broadcasting. Fifties aesthetic with charismatic characters and a dark espionage-esque streak. (Cancelled far before its time, but a masterpiece.)

3. Mad Men (2007-2015)

Character studies! All the character studies. Women front and centre. Mid-century social progress issues. Peggy Olson.

4. Life on Mars (UK) (2006-2007)

Psychological time-travelling police procedural in seventies Britain, ft. DI Sam Tyler and DCI Gene Hunt. British social issues and history with a flavour of the fourth wall and characters so real I feel like I know them. (Don’t believe the marketing, they’re all softies.)

5. Ashes to Ashes (2008-2010)

Sequel to Life on Mars. Like LoM, except it’s DI Alex Drake, the British pub has been usurped by a trattoria, there’s a statement checkerboard ceiling, and the music is addictively eighties. Emotionally charged: psychological, cosmological, philosophical. And all of the usual solving crimes and driving very fast and stuff.

6. The Lord of the Rings: the Rings of Power (2022-present)

In hand with my real-life RPG buddies and Zelda, responsible for the long overdue reminder that I love fantasy and swords and heroes and horsemanship. Etc etc etc. And obviously a good, complex character arc with a delicious moral conundrum. With a whole mythology I can delve head first into. The gift that keeps on giving.

7. Death in Paradise (2011-present)

My comfort watch. Patterned detective show under sunshine and reggae. Inexplicably incredibly popular in Germany and worldwide.

8. Thunderbirds (1965-1966, repeated in 90s)

I grew up on this. International Rescue. Honour, humanitarianism, family. Mid-century. Slow television, superfast aircraft. Tracy Island featured as a make on Blue Peter. (I still have the toys.)

things i would have added to or changed about poldark:

george gutting trenwith and transforming it into the light, airy, gilded, sunshiney aesthetic he clearly loves (cardew, warleggan bank). make it yours, honey

demelza making a move on george at that party after ross cheated on her - what better way to get back at him than by fooling around with his sworn nemesis, and, in george’s case, his wife? one stone, many birds. it would have been iconic. like, i love that part of george’s character is his faithfulness, but nonetheless: iconic. and he’s beautiful. get it, sweetie

verity in lisbon. how hard would it have been to have one scene of her writing a letter or arranging flowers in her room, or walking with her stepchildren through a harbour-side market and smiling and laughing and chatting with them? it’s what she deserved

a big reveal that george’s accent is actually lower class cornish and he’s just been faking the posh one. where did he learn the posh one anyway??? uncle cary certainly doesn’t have it and i doubt his parents did either. just let it slip, or have him drop it when he’s talking to cary. what a character building twist

consequences for ross’ fucking actions. when will you learn!!!!!!!!!!

the entire last season, and especially the finale. but to start with: the final season. if they wanted the slavery plot, brilliant - put kitty and cecily centre stage and cut ned entirely. i think it’s fairly safe to say very few people gave one single fuck about ned, and he took up so much time that could have been used for giving caroline a worthwhile plot that wasn’t some vague jealousy, and concentrating more on george’s mental illness. if they were absolutely determined to put ned in it, they should have swapped the timelines and put the final season plot into, say, season four. the entire last season felt rushed and messy and inconsequential, and honestly? cary carried so much of it.

poldark’s formula was that every season was essentially insular and self-contained - new characters were introduced in the first episode of the season, a villain was vanquished by the last, and one or two of the new characters stayed on, so that every season we collected new people who then became series regulars. it was a wonderful, fun formula, and it worked well. in the final season, there should have been no new characters introduced. we already had all these lives we’d collected over the seasons - ross, demelza, george, morwenna, caroline, dwight, drake, sam - and the last season should have been about them. about giving them a fitting plot and a satisfying ending. a final episode should mirror the values, sentiments, and aesthetics of the very first one, either in parallel or in contrast. and what makes poldark poldark is: cornwall, love, friendship, mining. it should have been about that. it should have tied in with the rest of the show. it should have been relevant.

instead, we got a french plot in the second to last episode and a dozen loose ends that had to be tied up in one single episode - which was mostly taken up by a sword fight, ross cheating on demelza but it’s okay because it’s For England even though i’ve always been a renegade and never particularly patriotic aside from being a soldier for what i assume are personal reasons, babies, napoleon, and 1801 MI5. the last episode was absurdly bad - because it had nothing whatsoever to do with the four seasons that had come before it. i mean, george appears in the barn a la t-rex in jurassic park, unseen and unheard, and hits both targets with two pistols - despite the fact ross said in a prior episode that he had always been a dismal shot, despite the fact he’s just had an injured arm, despite the fact he’s left-handed. every single character arc ended on a depressing or just entirely unworthy note. george leaving trenwith and seeing elizabeth going inside? is that supposed to be anything but achingly, horribly heartbreaking? is that supposed to be anything but “george is still struggling with his mental illness, but in a misguided attempt to move on he leaves the woman he loves in the house neither of them were ever supposed to be in and moves forward into an unhappy, broken future”? that scene where he “thinks aloud” and the audience is meant to be “ooooh my god is he still seeing her”? sickening. demelza being hurt for the thousandth time and then just immediately forgiving ross because it was for england? fuck that. fuck that so much. she deserved to be hurt and angry and move on from him, she deserved MORE. and ross leads tess on for six months, starts an affair, lets her fall for him, knows full well what he’s doing by using her - and then when she’s understandably wounded, he’s like “YOU STUPID THOT YOU BROUGHT IT ON YOURSELF STAY AWAY FROM MY FAMILY” AAAAAAHHHHHH

when george came to nampara the second time, after valentine asked him yet again about having his own mine, i thought he was going to ask ross to teach him about mining so he could bond with his son. adorable. sweet. when that didn’t happen, i thought he was going to tell ross and demelza that they were right, trenwith had always and would always be a poldark house, and now that he’s settling in truro and london (not cardew, for some reason), they could live at trenwith, where they were always supposed to be. when that didn’t happen, i thought he was going to relent and give permission for ross to have a relationship with valentine. but no. all we got, for the thousandth time, was “stay away from my son.”

i won’t even get into the female characters. they were done so dirty. when the show made the point of having the grandmother watching wenna saying goodbye to her son and smiling sadly, i didn’t think it was actually a goodbye - i thought she would show up at wenna’s cottage and grudgingly say she can come visit on weekends. but no. so what was the point of having the grandmother overhear at all??????? cecily loses her fortune, is forced back to the place she said she would rather die than return to and where her mother died, has her reputation in tatters - and geoffrey charles gets to have a happy ending and go back to military school. speaking of which, when he said that, considering a past plot point had been his lack of funds and the fact that he was attending on credit, i thought they were going to have a little scene where geoffrey charles admits george is finally paying for his studies, because they’re starting to build a relationship based on their mutual love for elizabeth and their loneliness, but no. again, i hoped for too much. i assumed they were actually trying to give an ending that made sense, that left characters with a brighter future, and that made audiences happy.

but, okay, let me spell out what i wanted for the final season - and, more importantly, the final episode:

the final season: cut ned, put kitty centre stage for the slavery plot, and cecily centre stage for the woman’s emancipation plot. that takes place in london. back in cornwall, go back to the show’s roots and return to mining. cut tess and any sort of human villain, and have the characters battling against the natural elements of the county. focus more on truro, on the red lion, on prudie, on jeffrey and clowance, on pascoe’s new baking venture - and have the peasants more spread out like they used to be, just not on one small set by the coast. amp up the fond nostalgia. bring all the old sets and locations back into it, including cardew. have a scene where someone sets flowers by henshawe’s grave. reopen wheal leisure. when we’re in cornwall, make it feel like it. take it all back to its roots. give demelza a worthwhile plot, and reunite morwenna with her son. take more time with her trauma plot in general - a promise by drake that he’ll never want a carnal relationship with her followed up a day later by disappointment on his part that he hasn’t gotten laid doesn’t cut it. so, that’s cornwall.

in london, put caroline to use. she knows everyone there is to know in high society; she’s independently wealthy; she’s cunning, articulate, strong-minded, and unbelievably powerful. use it. a perfect example, just for a tiny alteration, is the scene where a man spits at kitty - it wouldn’t be seemly for dwight to confront him, but caroline could: she, a powerful, untouchable aristocrat, could have cornered him and chewed him out without any repercussions or consequences. she’s the only truly upperclass character who is painted in a positive light - let her use her power and influence for good.

the final episode, but i’m focusing on george because he’s my favourite and also he was done so dirty: george’s hallucinations actually are gone and he’s started the process of healing. he and enys have started a positive, meaningful friendship. george helps ross in some different way - getting his hands dirty and going into a mine for the first time to rescue him, for example; imagine george in a cramped tunnel, covered in black dirt and sweat, terrified, clothes ruined, saving ross’s life: powerful - and their dynamic changes to a strange friendship that stays like that. george is clearly changed - he’s kinder, fairer, more mellow - but they keep up pretences for the fun of it. a scene in the red lion to demonstrate this - they have a confrontation (”oh, hello, ross - [bitchy comment]”), turns into a bit of verbal sparring, they clearly still hate each other for old time’s sake but there’s a hint of a smile and they both know they’re secretly fond of each other. they don’t go so far as to actually sit down for a drink together - they still go to their separate tables and their separate lives - but you know. it’s a healthier relationship.

a scene in the graveyard - geoffrey charles is leaving flowers, george comes up behind, hesitates a moment, then finally joins him; it’s awkward and they’re both bristling for a little bit, but finally george begrudgingly tells him he’ll fund his military training. cut to another scene - they’re both in trenwith. it’s still awkward, they’re still expecting something bad from the other, but their hackles aren’t quite so raised. finally, bessie enters the drawing room with francis’ portrait. george has it hung back in its old place above the fireplace. it’s a soft moment between george and geoffrey charles - the beginning of a reconciliation, an understanding, an apology. they both gaze up at the portrait for a moment. finally, george offers him a drink. geoffrey charles accepts. it’s the beginning of a gentler relationship and the ending of a mutually painful animosity.

george goes to nampara and asks to be taught about mining; ross agrees. when george leaves trenwith, it’s a quiet, joyful, powerful moment of healing and moving on. in the carriage, he has ursula on his lap and valentine sitting beside him with the miniature portrait of elizabeth. george puts his arm around him, a little uncomfortable at first with the tenderness but settling into it, they smile at each other, he starts to talk about mining. as they drive away from trenwith, george and valentine are too absorbed in their own newfound closeness and gentle conversation to look back. from the upstairs window, elizabeth watches them go with a smile.

in the truro townhouse, the household is busy preparing to move to london. suddenly, a knock at the front door. it’s demelza, dishevelled and frenzied and smiling - they need all hands on deck to bring in the harvest. george resists at first (“me?”), valentine begs to go, he finally relents - and it’s a throwback to the harvesting scene in the beginning of the show. the final scene: music over a montage. all the main characters are helping in the wheat field. it’s soft, sunny, and beautiful. george, in just his shirt sleeves and breeches, is laughing and free, helping pile wheat onto the cart and playing with valentine - chasing him around, picking him up and spinning him around, both of them are smiling. caroline and dwight are throwing stalks of wheat at each other and laughing, caroline’s hair a mess and she’s pretending to care about it, demelza runs up behind her and showers her in wheat, caroline is melodramatically incensed, demelza is laughing, caroline swears revenge and chases after her, female friendships deserve the world. demelza and ross have some stupid romantic moment, like kissing with the sun as a halo behind them. morwenna, her son, and all the school children help (morwenna and her son share a sweet moment), as does rosina and prudie and kitty and geoffrey charles. cary watches at the edge of the field with his arms crossed and a disapproving (but secretly fond) sneer on his face. all the characters are together - draw back to show the cliffs and the sea in the background - fade to black. everyone is set on their path of healing. everyone is where they should be. the french don’t exist. also squeeze george meeting harriet in there somewhere, and for the first time in two years he feels soft and healed enough to begin to love again, slowly, patiently. EVERYTHING IS GOOD, EVERYONE IS HAPPY, GIVE ME A SIMPLE, ORDINARY ENDING INSTEAD OF SOME SORT OF CHAOS WHERE TOO MANY SENSELESS, MEANINGLESS SUBPLOTS WITH NOTHING TO DO WITH THE REST OF THE SHOW OR ANY OF THE CHARACTERS ARE CRAMMED IN. I’D RATHER BE UNDERWHELMED AND DISAPPOINTED BY THE SIMPLICITY THAN OVERWHELMED AND GIVEN A HOLLOW, FRENZIED, OVERDRAMATIC NOTHING - but, better yet, give us happiness by giving the characters happiness. thanks for coming to my ted talk

Interesting that the prequel reviews all mention that the cast has good chemistry, because I personally don’t see it. Meg (Mary) and Drake (John) had zero chemistry and don’t even look aesthetically pleasing standing next to each other, such a mismatched pairing. The foursome friend group doesn’t have chemistry either, though I suppose that could be covered up by saying their friendship grows over the course of the show. Awkward in the trailer and awkward at Upfronts, I’m very skeptical that the rest of the pilot (and even the rest of the show) will read any differently. And despite every article mentioning that SPN fans will have to watch it themselves to get a feel for it, I won’t be tuning in. It’s clear to me that reviewers, even the neutral to negative leaning ones, are trying to stay on Jensen’s good side so that they don’t lose any connections. If everyone from the producer to reviewers has to beg fans to set aside any (very valid) reservations and watch, it’s a bad sign.

The chemistry certainly hasn't come through in the trailers. Maybe it comes through in the show, but I'm not convinced. I wonder if the reviewers are specifically mentioning chemistry because the success of SPN was due to the chemistry between Jared and Jensen.

Another thing I've seen is SPN nostalgia. People who love anything SPN-related are overlooking the major issues of canon for that return to the universe. (Though how anyone can appreciate the SPN-vibes without Sam is beyond my understanding.)

Look, it may be fun for new viewers and people desperate for anything within the SPN-universe, but if those end up being the only viewers of the show, I have a hard time believing it will be successful.

💕ˀˀ. . . ₎ Hopeless romantic, but she tries not to. Yuno is a very delicate balance between constantly daydreaming and being aware that life is not a Disney movie, but nothing sounds better than that little scenario in her head about hugging her crush before falling asleep that just 😔🤌. She's by far the most open about her feelings in general, so it is pretty obvious when she likes someone too. Her main way to show affection is physical touch, so even if she plays cool and not bothered at all while being afraid of being clingy, you can see her staring at your hand like 👁👄👁.

🎻ˀˀ. . . ₎ A loud bad singer. Grim hates it, but can’t bring it to tell her to shut up because she only sings out loud when she's really happy or really sad, the poor thing. Also, her upbringing made her really into classical music, like Tchaikovsky and Vivaldi and she listens to it almost everyday, but overall pretty eclectic out of it.

Yuno is into a lot of indie and kpop on a daily basis too. Also the type of person that always listens to people's recommendations, or learns her friends' favorites to vibe with them.

FACILE DRAKE

💕ˀˀ. . . ₎ His love language is words of affirmation, so it would be nothing weird to him to come and "you know I love you" or very soft whisper out a "my evening star". Even in platonic, it is not weird for him to say out of nowhere a "bro, you're my favorite person”. but Facile doesn't have any priority in romantic love at all. He's seventeen, it isn't like he's going to meet the love of his life just now, right? right?

🎻ˀˀ. . . ₎ He tried to play piano like Sam when he was younger but what really made him passionate was saxophone. He plays on the afternoons in the Pomefiore lounge for Vil, or after his shift in Mr.S Shop, when he can. He’s also a fan of Jazz and Blues, mostly because of Sam and their homeland.

AGONIA TARTARUS

💕ˀˀ. . . ₎ Against what people tend to think about them, they’re not a fuckboy or anything like it, for sure, Agonia is sure into some mutual flirt and rarely get involvelved, but once they do, they love deeply. They're main languages are through acts of service and physical touch, so they like to demonstrate that yes, they are into you. No, they don't do it for anybody. They don't mind making a point out of it. If they chooses you, then it's you.

🎻ˀˀ. . . ₎ Unlike his brother and Idia that are always with headphones, Agonia only listens to music in their room, usually some heavy metal or punk rock, but anything that makes some success on Ignihyde walls is a go to for them. Also a really good singer, but they don't bother to show it since they like to poke Pannik nerves telling he's the gifted kid from their family.

PANNIKOLAUS "PANNIK" TARTARUS

💕ˀˀ. . . ₎ He's born to friends to lovers trope. Pannik is too shy for any kind of relationship that he doesn't know deeply. His main way to show affection is through words of affirmation but in his own way: with music; you can expect a ton shit of Playlist made for or thinking about you on his phone, and for sure he will be writing songs about you too, but you will have to take it from his dead cold hands 😊

🎻ˀˀ. . . ₎ Pannik loves music more than himself, but he can easily follow the sad boy aesthetic with the amounts of indie and grunge he listens to. Believe it or not he's pretty much into everything (please listen to his recommendations).

Pannik is always with his headphones for when he needs to calm down, if he loses or it breaks things get really bad.

≡ The crooked kind - Chapter 9: Superposition ≡

“Just cozy, huh? Nathan can almost hear Sam’s voice as he blows out a puff of smoke. Only he can’t hear Sam’s real voice anymore, and it's just a lifeless string of words in his head.

Saint Dismas screams of cheap horror movies and eerie legends about spirits and lost entities inhabiting its naves and aisles. It doesn’t make Nathan want to cross the threshold if not absolutely necessary – possibly in full daylight. He doesn’t think he’ll ever peacefully set foot into a church anyway, especially now. The central rose window looms like a glowering eye over them, as far-away lightning flashes in its decorated frame, making it look alive, blinking in fury. It’s like it can smell his sins. Nathan tries not to look up, all the subdued worries and fears locked in his chest squirming and writhing to resurface. The church seems to call to him, somehow, trying to lure him into its bowels, but he walks right past its entrance’s maw.

just a quick disclaimer, this is in fact just my opinion and not based on any sort of fact other than my own perception of the characters, and if you disagree you are absolutely entitled to. if you have any different opinions feel free to comment them, i’d love to hear other peoples thoughts !

also, this goes without saying but i do not support the terf, and if you do, or are any other form of trash, this account is not a safe space for you. you will be hate crimed. /hj

sam temple : hufflepuff

at first i thought gryffindor, but i actually changed my mind while writing this. he seems to be forced into the leadership role, but before the fayz he seemed to be quite reserved. he kept to himself and his one good friend (well…) so i see a lot of loyalty and kindness in him, leading me to hufflepuff. while he still fits in gryffindor somewhat, i think hufflepuff is a better fit for him.

caine soren : slytherin

yes there’s obviously the whole “him being a villain” thing that definitely points towards him being a slytherin, but he actually fits the house traits. he’s clearly very driven and and knows what he wants, and is determined to get it. it’s stereotypical, but he’s a textbook slytherin.

astrid ellison : ravenclaw

yes yes i know oH sHe’S a NeRd but that’s not the only reason. it’s more like she doesn’t really fit anywhere else. of course she has the textbook ravenclaw traits, but she doesn’t seem to have any traits of the other houses. the only other house i could see her in is probably slytherin, and even that’s a long shot.

diana ladris : ravenclaw

this might surprise some of you. i’ve seen a lot of people say she’s a slytherin, but i can’t find myself agreeing. diana is the most sarcastic and witty person in the books and wit is a ravenclaw trait. her signature move is her one liners and insulting people into submission, and she never seems to want to volunteer for anything really, she’s not particularly cunning in any regard other than seduction and she’s certainly not kind. ravenclaw seems a perfect fit.

quinn gaither : gryffindor

this was a tough one. i searched every tiny scrap of information on this boy and all i could come up with is “he’s a coward, now he’s a fisherman” so i’m taking him taking initiative to not only become a fisherman but also standing up to penny to sort him in gryffindor. don’t question it.

drake merwin : gryffindor

honestly i was torn between gryffindor and slytherin for him. he’s kind of like a peter pettigrew character to me, just less, him. drake has never really shown that he had a plan at any point other than serve caine, and then the gaiaphage and seemed to just be violent for violence’s sake. he also doesn’t seem to have much of a “backbone” though, considering he’s answered to at least someone at every point in the books until he dies. he does, however, seem to willing to do the dirty work other don’t wanna do, which indicates some form of courage or bravery. and he definitely has fucking nerve.

edilio escobar : gryffindor

oh my gosh my boy. he stood up at the beginning and did everything for everyone at every point and never complained. he’s clearly brave, not only becoming a soldier but training other soldiers, not to mention his courage. he’s the perfect gryffindor and i love him.

brianna berenson : gryffindor

do i even really need to explain this one. shes constantly hyper, over confident and rushes into dangerous situations head first. she’s basically fred and george weasley mixed with james potter. it’s self explanatory.

dekka talent : hufflepuff

this is actually one of my favourites. when she decides to love something she loves so hard, with brianna being a prime example. she puts her foot first to help sam even when she clearly doesn’t want to. she may seem a bit harsh sometimes, but that doesn’t take away from her genuine kindness that shows through every now and again.

lana arwen-lazar : slytherin

while she obviously fits the slytherin aesthetic, she’s also very prideful and self preserving. she also clearly shows resourcefulness, which we see after her car crash. you might argue that with her powers she has to be resourceful but i digress. she also just tends to be mean which is a very slytherin thing to do.

sanjit brattle-chance : hufflepuff

oh sweet baby boy. we don’t know much about him but he clearly cares for his siblings so much as he took them everywhere with him and he does so much for lana even if she doesn’t see the benefit of it. he helps at the hospital with virtue, which points to him being some form of kind and hard working, otherwise he wouldn’t have done anything to help while he was with lana other than care for his siblings.

albert hillsborough : slytherin

my man is so money hungry in a world where money doesn’t exist that he reinvents capitalism. only a slytherin could do that, let’s be real.

charles ‘orc’ merriman: hufflepuff

this one may be slightly shocking, and i honestly can’t explain it all that well, i just feel it in my bones. y’all are gonna have to trust me.

howard bassem : hufflepuff

he practically follows orc around like a lost puppy the entire series. that’s loyalty. and i’d like to think it would be difficult dealing with orc, which shows me patience. also, he’s a drug dealer, and we all know that hufflepuff’s are the stoners of hogwarts.

taylor : slytherin

okay another one i can’t explain very well due to the sheer lack of scenes of her actually doing anything but she spreads gossip and rumours purely for her own amusement. that just seems very slytherin to me. i’d totally do that if i was given the opportunity.

jack : ravenclaw

obviously the most telling sign of his ravenclaw-iness is he’s a fucking nerd. but besides that, jack does seem to be quite a coward, so gryffindor is off the table. he switches sides every ten minutes, so loyalty clearly means nothing to him, meaning hufflepuff is out. he has the charisma of a plank of wood and couldn’t talk his way out of a paper bag so slytherins clearly not it either. it’s the same case as astrid; he simply fits ravenclaw too well, and couldn’t simply fit anywhere else.

well i hope you enjoyed me mindlessly rambling about two of my hyper fixations bc it seems no one else shares my interests between the fandoms lol so this may not even appeal to anyone as anything other than a basic character study. take this post as you will. i hope everyone has a good day <3

That being said, on this occasion, I will do my best to provide you with some feedback from what you have shared. There is a really interesting aesthetic developing in the piece which conveys emotion and I think it is engaging from the content you have shown. With this in mind though, it would have been good to see a physical mock up of the entire piece as this would allow us to provide feedback on whether the intention of the piece is conveyed in the outcome. More spreads, including the intro and additional poems would assist the audience in understanding your message and the purpose of the piece.

The title and cover is intriguing, but it suggests it is mostly about the relationship between two people. However, you describe the project’s focus being about surfing primarily and how this has helped your friendship secondly. Perhaps removing the photographs of yourself and your friend would leave the viewer questioning whether the title is referring to the sea or your friend? Obviously, this is up to you to decide, but the cover suggests this is more about your relationship than it is about surfing and I think you need to decide what is the “joy bringer” in the project.

It is hard to comment on the typography in this context as I am looking at a mock up of book on a screen and not able to view its actual physical state. I would say though, you need to consider the legibility of how the text is set over imagery – its not always possible to read the words. This could be adjusted in many ways, such as colour choice, size, location or how you are treating the background imagery. You could also explore hierarchy further too as this will impact on the expressive nature of the typography. I would suggest you look at some concrete poetry examples / designers – to get you started you could look at Sam Winston, Paula Scher, Wolfgan Weingart, Tyrone Drake etc. Whilst you are exploring and experimenting with the layout and typesetting I would encourage you to continue to print out and make mock ups to assist in the critical reflection process.

Points to pick out:
