perhaps the reason why aup ended like *that* is because it was not supposed to have a happy ending in the first place, but sayren didnt have the guts to deal with readers' backlash for when they finally kill off the main character so a half baked happy ending is what we get 😔

#for a happy ending of a story to be narratively satisfying the characters gotta actively work hard for it #this happy ending feels empty because quite frankly speaking ludger did nothing to deserve it #he has zero character developments from the beginning to the end and has always been the same #well except for his emotional state getting worse over time #bc instead of making any attempt at all to healthily address it like a mentally mature 40yo adult he let it swallow him whole #(not that im necessarily blaming him but its quite frustrating to see him remain unchanged if aup is meant to be a redemption story) #his OPness is inherent #his genius is inherent #(this is not to say he isnt hardworking / only relying on his inborn talents but the author repeatively failed the 'show dont tell' checks) #(bc it was only implied in the past and we've never truly seen it in the canon present timeline either) #his kindness is inherent #ngl dad!ludger content doesnt appeal to me as much as dad!edgeworth cuz the latter is the fruit of the character's growth and hard labor #while the former is well... its just who he is #usually i love found family content but in aup it bores my mind out bc his interactions w the students + owens are so static & predictable #it was heartwarming at the moment of adoption but later on i find it as tedious as reading generic established romantic relationships #was it because of the lack of tensions and conflicts i wonder #they all became his yes men and no one ever actively challenged his unhealthy mindset or behaviors #anyway id have been more interested if he recognized his biases/favoritism/prejudices towards some certain characters & worked to change it #but welp. that would require character growth which is too much to expect from him ig #he has learnt quite nothing from his journey and tbh aup would ironically feel more meaningful if it ended on a tragic note #ofco i got noblesse'd again 😔 #would i kill for aup to have a happy ending? yes #would i rather have a sad ending over the half baked and empty good ending we get? also yes #if it must burn then let the whole world burn. cuz at least it would be more much memorable and impactful that way #and i wouldnt have to feel this disappointed and lose all of my interests in one of my only two beloved aroace MCs in aup </2 #rant

Man I'm just picturing Brassius and Hassel just discussing like 'what are we doing wrong I believe there's interest but???' after time spent together with you. Just playing 4D chess trynna figure out what else do they need to do why can't you see both of them are Interested in you

EXACTLY!!! the funniest fucking thing is that in the plot they only started considering asking you out a few weeks into the arrangement (after a serious discussion between each other that yeah there's no threat to their relationship and yeah they're both smitten with you after getting to know you + the forbidden knowledge of you sucking their dicks previously)

but by then it's too late!!! you're used to their behavior and how kind and considerate they are by now so you literally do not detect the difference. you just think oh Brassius is just being nice with his compliments and Hassel is sweet for offering to buy you lunches and you don't mind the extra touching of hands and brushing of arms (internally you're like Wough Nice but also they're just being friendly you guess, no biggie)

WHILE Brassius and Hassel are both like, internally dying. Straight up 4D chess discussions after each meeting with you. "What is lacking?" Hassel sighs, putting his face into his hands. "They're not that much younger than us, I don't quite believe that the customs has changed that much? Are we getting old?"

"We can try inviting them to the local festival next month, or our home for dinner," Brassius pats him. "I'll even break out the pirate shirts."

"The ones that has no buttons and open-chested? Won't it scare them off?"

"Desperate times calls for desperate measures, Hass. Wear your nice vest and remember to roll up your sleeves too."

anyways i like to think while Brassius is very direct and blunt while Hassel isn't afraid to straight up confess, in here the circumstances are holding them back bc a) it's polymory, they don't want to scare you off + they’re being cautious bc they’re a packaged deal b) they don't know what you're looking for at the moment and are trying their best to be considerate without being pushy and risking your friendship and c) i find it fucking hilarious making them suffer

i've always hated love triangles because it doesn't make any sense, like a love triangle isn't two people in love with the same person because that is not a triangle, an actual love triangle should be person a is in love with person b, person b is in love with person c and person c is in love with person a, that is an actual triangle, also I've come up with a few endings to love triangles, 1. the main character realized they're aromantic(or aroace) and the two other people who are in love with the mc realized they were actually in love with each other so mc gets to live a happy life alone and the two other people get to live a happy life together, 2. the three of them end up in a polyamorous relationship, 3. they all just move on from each other and/or continue being good friends with each other.

Heyo! Have you watched Koisenu Futari (恋せぬふたり, Two people who can't fall in love) yet? It's a great series, just 8 episodes long! I binged it in one day :) [smiley]

It focuses on two aromantic asexual people living together. This is a little appreciation post, containing some thoughts that it evoked in me as an aroace.

If you don't want spoilers, please don't read!

It's so relatable how Sakuko keeps blaming herself all throughout the show… Insecurity stemming from societal expectations that dictate romance is for everyone, and that people who don't date are somehow "failing" in life; I think this affects allos as well.

When I broke off my romantic relationship, I too felt like it had been my fault, for not having been a good enough partner, for not being able to love them in the same way they loved me.

To finally learn that you are not "defective", that there's other people like you…! I love how the two MCs don't grieve their lack of attraction; Sakuko is perfectly happy discovering she's aroace. She and Takahashi are living their "best life" together.

Sure, many aroaces do wish they were allo, and that needs to be represented too, but this series to me really shined a light over why they want that: it's because amatonormativity is rampant in the world, not because lacking attraction is inherently sad. The main conflicts in the series stem from the clash between allo society and the aroace experience, after all. I think that's neat! It gave me a good dose of aroace joy—while still showing the hurts that come with it, realistically—and I really needed it.

I didn't expect her to come out to her family so soon, but whoa, that was intense. Her mother's negative reaction is what all people who exclude a-spec people from the LGBTQIA+ community should see, to understand that we face the same issues they do.

I haven't come out to my parents as aroace yet, and watching this made me realize how awful it actually feels to be in the closet. I somehow hadn't realized I am. I've always felt safe coming out to them as other things, as bisexual back in the day, and as trans non-binary.

It might be because my confidence disappeared when they reacted badly both times, but this coming out feels almost impossible.

Comparing it to coming out as bi, it's really not that different: if you're bi, you're promiscuous and date too many people; if you're aroace, you're a prude and cold-hearted. If you break away from the status quo, you're wrong either way.

But at least, most people do eventually understand the bi experience, if they understand same-gender attraction, and fuse it with straightness, even though it's a flawed method.

With aros and aces, instead, it's such an alien concept for an allo, which makes it way harder to come out and have to explain to them how to deconstruct allo-amatonormativity. It's exhausting. Thankfully, there's people like Kazu who are actually willing to learn about us. That gives me hope.

I feel like it's super eye-opening to find out the concept of romance didn't even exist in the past. Pretty sure that in Europe, it originated during the Middle Ages from the ideal of chivalry. So it's really just a social construct, and opting out of it shouldn't be so controversial!

It's just a set of pointless, annoying rules like having to kiss eachother, having to say "I love you", and doing it all a set amount of times, otherwise it's not good enough. What if we don't want to? What if it doesn't come natural to us? If it's just a social construct, fuck it, I'm not adhering to that! We do whatever makes us happy!

Even in the series itself, Sakuko too goes through a heartbreak, even if it's not the romantic kind: she valued her friendship and future cohabitation with Chizuru above all else, but Chizuru abandoned her, because of romantic love. It's not true that aroaces have it easy.

Like our MC, we have to deal with fear that we'll come off flirty when we're just being friendly, confusion over concepts that we feel we should understand, shame over the fact that we're different, fear of loneliness, frustration and pain that we'll always come second to our friends' romantic partners, or even trauma from a relationship or sexual encounter that we didn't really want. I could go on and on.

These last scenes really got to me. Especially the second one… I admit that I cried, when she had to turn her down, and it seemed like her aromanticism had ruined their relationship. It hurts that the way I am could seriously harm someone I care about. It hurts that most people work differently and that they can't help it, and that we can't help it either. I don't like being put in that position, to cause someone a heartbreak. I have with my ex, and had to watch them spiral down… It was horrible.

Still, I wouldn't change my orientation for the world. I'm confident in my identity, I love being aroace.

In the end, we can all reach our full potential, reach a point where we feel fulfilled and that we're living our best life, find ourselves a family if it's what we want, have our dream job and house. Being aroace doesn't condemn us to a life of unhappiness. That's what this series left me with by the end; it gave me so much hope for my future.

(I'm aware I'm coming off as a bit toxically positive here haha, sorry if I'm striking a bad chord; I'm just in a really good period right now, and riding this wave for as long as I can! Hopefully I can rub it off someone else as well.)

That said, I really loved this j-drama, it was funny and relatable and emotional, I wished it had lasted longer! It seems like the author isn't even aroace herself, so I'm amazed at how good the representation was! So much thought and research has gone into it, and it shows; the result is amazing.

I enjoyed it on the surface level but think it could have had a bit more depth and structure #I do always like to see an aroace MC who mentions it casually throughout the story and the central sister relationship #The writing is a little young for me… I think it has this silly/satirical element of the plot and caricature-villains but the prose wasn’t #quite funny enough to make it work....so parts just felt a bit random and undeveloped to me? #I genuinely love a lot of MG and younger YA but this is on the side of writing style #that felt too noticably young for me to enjoy fully (for me - obviously it's for teens! so that's okay!) #It’s quite slow to start (it doesn’t get into it until half way?) and the two storylines felt a bit disconnected. #All the different things happening felt all over the place & I felt the ending was a bit unsatisfying #Betsy’s love interest seemed like a nice interesting boy but it was such instalove I felt like there was no development between them lol #I think it has some fun parts and some good characters! I would still recommend to teens looking for queer piratey stories #(tho as a note - THEY aren't really ever pirates. maybe briefly.) (I think maybe ofmd comps might do it a disservice if you're not clear #it's just 'piratey and also there's queer people) #there's some good side lesbians (def side tho)

Out of all of the "Creators" of the universe (aka. the first six gods), Fate is the most emotional + sensitive.

Fate is aroace and has never had true "children" like the other gods have.

Fate goes by any and all pronouns, but culturally is most affiliated with she/her

Fate is actually quite fond of MC...

Do you have a future au? Where MC is gone and they’ve all graduated from RAD?

You know you can phrase this as "Tell them about your future au" you don't have to act aloof

But I will elaborate on the question "What happens when MC dies/isn't there anymore?"

This is also a lot to unpack for one ask so I'll only be skimming the surface of the lore for this au bc I doubt anyone cares (though I may mention characters like Ari, Dev, or Metzi in my stories)

Lucifer

Anyone who's on my page would know I'm an avid Dialuci shipper. In my Future AU, Diavolo and Lucifer are married and ruling as the Kings of Devildom.

Life doesn't change all that much for them. They're still always working. They don't go to the HoL family gatherings (hosted by the twins and Beel's wife Dahlia) unless they aren't swamped with work.

Mammon

Mammon is one of the brothers that keeps in contact with NB! MC who's become a demon by now (M!MC according to my universe becomes an angel with Simeon after the two fall in love and F!MC becomes a reaper with Thirteen after the two fall in love)

Mammon gets a wife named Aezorin Idreius, Zori for short. Mammon and Zori run a series of casinos called Lucky Coin.

Zori is a wrath demon. She's an axolotl demon. She's Scottish and much taller than Mammon. Zori is an intersex woman who's a siren. Zori is also the feared captain of the Black Mantis, a pirate ship.

Leviathan

One of the brothers that doesn't get married. He gets a (partner? Best friend?) roommate named Adramalech Dreik-Mukhin, Adra for short.

They're a friend Levi met in school. Adra is a coder for a company that makes video games and Levi is a game tester. Adra and Levi live together.

Adra is a transmasc envy demon. They're a dragon-fly demon. They're very anxious always and generally keep to themselves at the HoL family gatherings, which Levi and Adra regularly attend.

Satan

Satan lives at the castle as one of two Royal Archivists. The Archives are books and magical typewriters charmed to write the history of the entirety of Devildom. An Archivist's job is to sort these books and read the history.

Satan's girlfriend is named Metztli Rex, Diavolo's adopted younger sister. Satan and Metzi met when Diavolo hired Satan to be an Archivist.

Metzi is a greed demon with cotton candy pink hair. She's much smaller than anyone else and is often hovering slightly above the ground. She's an albino bat demon. She's also extremely traumatized (which I will not go into unless someone asked. Check out my AO3 for more info)

Asmodeus

Asmo lives as a fashion designer and p'rn star. He has three partners (bc Asmo is polyamorous bc of course he is)

Solomon is the first and most obvious. He's still the greatest sorcerer and still normal him. Ariadne Kamini is a fashion designer Asmo met at a modeling job. She's a succubus. Devereaux Eros is a str'pper with the nickname of Rose Quartz. He's an incubus. Asmo and him met at a str'pclub.

Asmo and his partners always go to the meetings at the HoL

Beelzebub and Belphegor

They get the same section because I headcanon Belphie as being on the Aroace spectrum.

Beel is married to Dahlia Toth, a gluttony demon who is a cook. Dahlia and Beel own a string of restaurants called Infernal Delights. Belphie lives with them at the HoL bc Beel is never without his twin.

Dahlia is a trans woman. Dahlia was a human before she became a demon (called a Sinner Soul by most demons) and she murdered her husband and then became a demon.

If anyone wants any more information, I do have more. Feel free to check out my ao3 book about this because it has more information. But I will give it later as I've posted two really long things today.

"Devil Venerable Also Wants to Know"

I dont think I can explain this danmei in a coherent way, but I will try.

The main character is Wenren E. Wenren E is strongly aroace coded. Wenren E is an "evil" demonic sect leader who takes great pleasure in two things in life: demonic cultivation (which involves gaining spiritual energy from...protecting the common people) and watching his subordinates be nasty to each other and himself.

Wenren E acquires a transmigrating romance novel called "Abusive Romance". In this novel he stars as the second love interest to an oblivious girl who fawns after her playboy shixiong. Now Wenren E takes pleasure in a third thing: getting the main character to stop fawning after her playboy shixiong and watching how the book reviewers like his changes to the story.

Problem is he doesn't understand love. Thus the matchmaking torture begins. Like actual torture. He's putting this girl through all kinds of situations to make her either give up on love or fall in love with someone else. Baili Qingmiao (mc of the romance novel) is Wenren E's blorbo and he is shaking her in a jar, marveling at the sheer stupidity of the previous writing choices.

Also he has an unhinged yandere righthand man who's in love with him and has not a single other thought in his skull. This worries him a lot actually.

And he kinda becomes a vampire halfway through the story...but that's too much to unpack here.

Anyways, this story is a lot of fun and has a lot of absurd situations going on, so if that's your thing, go give it a read!

Mammon Propaganda because I can't see my favourite boy lose

1. He is your number one. He is your first friend and first demon to make a pact with. He helps you out all the time

2. Tsundere. This seems like a turn off, oh I don't want someone who is like 'I did this, not because I like you, stupid'. He is so far away from that. He does things for MC and everyone let's him know that his feelings are clear and he denies them

3. Despite denying him feelings, he lets the MC and other characters know of his feelings. He often tells people to stop reading his mind (for example; 'I don't mind that our hands are stuck' is what a Little D says and he tells him to stop reading him mind)

4. He is a pathetic little guy. All of his brothers bully him, sometimes for things he did do, sometimes for things he didn't. He still cares so deeply for them (e.g buying Lucifer's favourite pudding to cheer him up and having MC give it to him). He is constantly getting in trouble with people and has to do favours. He is getting extorted by witches because they are raising a child he adopted

4.5. He also cares for Luke. He admits the reason he is mean to Luke is to teach him that life isn't fair and that he wants to be a mentor figure like Lucifer was to him. He apologises when he takes things too far and takes Luke stargazing on the roof of a train. He also has eaten tomatoes from his plate

5. He is hot. Look at his cards and tell me he isn't (I am aroace but man is he hot). He is a model.

6. Created a whole scam just to be able to admit that he loves MC (it's an anime episode that has Miss Em dolls in it). Despite being the demon of greed, he has never stolen from MC and it is because he cares too much for them as confirmed in a side lesson.

He is a genuine guy who is bad with his feelings, please even if he ties with Elliott I'll be happy, I didn't fight for him in the first round for him to lose here

Also yes, I played Stardew Valley so I can compare the two and I think that Mammon is a better character (I'm a Leah stan)

Funny how I just wanted to write a book with aro mcs because all of the little tiny amount of aro rep is at most ~implied~ or popular interpretation. And if it's actually confirmed, it's usually never said in the source (and basically always aroace, as if aro can't exist seperately from aces...). Or worse they use asexual to mean aromantic, or aroace.

And now it'll be like, at least two books of critizing ableism, classism, homophobia, transphobia, amatonormativity, war and basically society as a whole. Becuase I just can't write a fluffy fantasy book, I have to see society burn.

Top all that with dragons and magic and the two mcs who are unapologetically aromantic queers and they would burn the world for each other and they are so close and vulnerable and intimate with each other and they are friends and so, so wunderful together.

And now I only have to write all this shit actually, because most of it only exists in my head. I've only written the first 20k of the first book. Fml.

Don't worry, I reblogged that post for the exact purpose of letting new followers/readers know about Yniol's sexuality!

The Hound can be asexual and/or aromatic, so yes, once Yniol has that discussion MC can share their experience too. I imagine it would be a moment of bonding between the two.

Same with Evaine and being trans (I mean, MC will have a conversation with each RO they are involved with about that, but in general a trans MC can share a slightly different moment with Evaine as an ace MC can with Yniol).

Note that MC can have those discussion if they are romantically pursuing them, or if they are very close platonically and as such the ROs will open up more (or MC will)

A last note: Adrei is aroace, so MC did have at least one family member they could kinda relate to
