What was Namor's childhood like?

For the most part Princess Fen ensured Namor would have the best childhood she could give him. Fen loved her son, but many Atlanteans and even her own father, Emperor Tha-Korr hated Namor. Tha-Korr would not kill Namor because he was born of Royal Blood but he made his life hell in other ways.

In the golden age Fen gives birth to Namor in the royal dungeon because her father was angry with her for marrying Leonard and helping him escape, but because Namor was a boy, Emperor Tha-korr decided to let her and him live but to punish Fen for disobeying him he banishes her from the city and she can only return when Namor is ten years old.

Byrrah would often have plots to have Namor banished or blamed for things, and he was a coward who would abandon Namor whenever they were playing in places they shouldn’t have been, which lead to Namor getting trapped or hurt.

Location- Skyline district, New Olympus

Personality- He's confident, arrogant, & sure of himself with an enviable drive. He has a tendency to be selfish and unapologetically blunt while also looking down on others who don't meet his high standards/expectations. He's currently in a relationship.

He has the standard abilities of a god except shapeshifting. Being the god of avarice his other powers/abilities include limited chrimatakinesis (not to the level of Hermes, his ex-girlfriend, or current girlfriend), limited chrysopeia, supernatural thievery, limited illusion generation, hoarding inducement (temporarily in others), spending inducement (temporarily in others), obsession inducement (temporarily in others), and being able to sense & manipulate the greed in others.

Aplistos' main abode is his apartment on the top floor of The Chrysaor Courts, a luxury high rise apartment building in the Skyline neighborhood of New Olympus. The interior design is sleek and modern with a touch of olympian opulence. An ostentatious Imperial Gold chandelier dripping with woven diamonds hangs from the ceiling of the main hall. There's a spa room, an in-studio movie theater, a large walk-in closet that measures almost a 1,000 sq ft with the walls being painted in 24K gold paint, and most of the flooring is white oak with Imperial Gold & platinum accents. There's also leather furniture, marble & platinum furniture pieces, a state-of-the-art kitchen with stainless steel appliances- including the most expensive refrigerator (that has a 40,000 drachma price tag), and his bedroom- which has his exclusive mattress (stitched with real silver & gold) and the Imperial Gold/black opal bedframe. Aplistos is also overseeing the construction of his mansion that's being built in the state of Olympia. It's said that the foundation is being built on top of a major goldmine. He often shuttles back and forth from his place & his girlfriend's main apartment.

He has an animal companion- a dragon named Chrysarion that's widely known as "The Golden Flame." The beautiful beast is covered in gleaming gold scales and has cream colored wing membranes. Chrysarion is Aplistos' mode of transportation when traveling great distances or when he wants to make an entrance. Aplistos loves feeding him pounds of vintage cote de boeuf, which the dragon cooks himself with his fire!

Aplistos normally gets around in his car- a cream & gold high tech seamless machinery complete with custom high end finishes inside, a champagne fridge, and Imperial Gold spinners. His personal driver- a harpy named Aello drives.

A go-to drink for him is champagne. He also likes classic martinis, whiskey sours, gin & tonics, vodka shots, jack & cokes, beer, mojitos, and manhattans. Usuals for him from The Roasted Bean is an olympian sized dark roast coffee & a large iced tea.

Aplistos starts off his mornings with a high intensity workout at the gym before going home for an appointment with his personal masseuse, a mermaid named Aquaria. He'll sometimes go to the Gold Rays tanning salon for a quick tan.

He loves the breakfast made by his personal chef, a mortal man named Giles. A typical one for Aplistos is eggs benedict along with pain au chocolat topped with warm rhubarb compote, mushroom & fatina tartines, and a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice. He also likes when Giles makes his famous garlic & herb parmesan biscuit breakfast sandwich (that has scrambled eggs, black olives, smoked ham, and scallions).

Aplistos' list of people he cares about is a short one. It includes his younger sibling Aerin (goddess of the ethereal), his current girlfriend Orthosia (goddess of wealth), her son Chrysos (god of gold & riches), his ex-girlfriend Evimería (goddess of prosperity), and her son Caerus (god of opportunity & luck). Everyone else is met with general indififference.

He hates tattoos & ridiculous piercings.

One gift Aplistos likes is the flask his girlfriend gave to him. It's made of platinum and white gold & his covered in diamonds!

Not much is known (publicly or in the pantheon) how he came into his wealth. It's generally rumored that it started from his dealings in the black market.

Aplistos takes meticulous care and great pride in his physical appearance. His body is in peak physical shape, his hair effortlessly coiffed, his nails & facial hair neatly trimmed, his skin free of imperfections with a flawless golden glow, his teeth brilliantly white, and his clothes expertly tailored & wrinkle free.

His favorite frozen treat is vanilla vodka ice cream topped with lots of champagne whipped cream & edible gold leaves.

Evimería was Aplistos' first real serious relationship, their love growing over time. He was always grateful to her for being the first to see the good in him- that he was more than the "avaricious materialistic god." Aplistos enjoyed being a father figure towards her son. Things shifted when Aplistos started to prioritize work & gambling over his relationship. Sometimes, it'd be several weeks before Evimería saw or heard from him. The end began when Aplistos agreed to watch Caerus while Evimería went to a business meeting. Aplistos was also entertaining a small poker party so he sent Caerus to his bedroom to play video games. He was horrified later on when he opened his bedroom door. He saw one of his dresser slightly opened and Caerus laying on the floor unconscious with a ring of lotus dust around his mouth. Aplistos gathered Caerus in his arms, got on his dragon, & flew to the hospital where a doctor was able to treat the lotus dust toxicity. Evimería quickly rushed to the hospital when she got the news and was totally distraught. She slapped Aplistos a few times and ended their relationship.

A guilty pleasure for him is a slice of pepperoni hot honey pizza.

Aplistos fell hard and fast for Orthosia. He appreciates the fact that she wants them to maintain their independence even though they're a couple. He was the first to say "I love you." Aplistos also looks forward to the rare instances where she shows her vulnerability. For Orthosia's most recent birthday, Aplistos gifted her with a bra (and detachable belt) from Diamond Ave.- with 24K gold hardware, diamond straps, and it's adorned with over 6,500 precious gems including diamonds, blue topaz, purple garnet, pink morganite, & yellow citrine.

He supported Aerin during her transition. He found it interesting that she didn't opt for changing her name to a more feminine sounding one.

He loves listening to rock, hip-hop, and electronic music.

For other work/means of income Aplistos models for/endorses Platinum Alchemy (Zeus' men's fashion brand) and Shadow Specs. With his own personal endeavors, Aplistos has released a signature cologne aptly titled Emmonos. The fragrance notes include mahogany wood, coffee, roasted barley, & black vanilla. Another detail is the black opal bottle. The 8.4 oz bottle sells for 1,300 drachmas! He's also an executive producer on his girlfriend's upcoming business reality TV show titled Griffin's Den.

A favorite sweet treat of his are the glamour doughnuts from The Luxe, a high end eatery/shop. The doughnut is filled with champagne jelly, glazed with dark chocolate and passionfruit syrup, and is then dusted with edible gold & diamond dust. A price for one is nearly 2,000 drachmas.

In the pantheon Aplistos is friends with Neicus (god of debate & appeal), Apólafsi (god of enjoyment), Dolos (god of deception & treachery), Isorropía (Isorro) (god of duality, balance, & equilibrium), Apate (goddess of fraud & deception), Felis (Titaness of cats), Psionikós (god of the mind), Aisa (goddess of lot & fate), Favian (god of philosophy), Hybris (goddess of insolence, hubris, & reckless pride), Helios (Titan god of the sun), Epimetheus (Titan god of afterthought), and Priapus (god of fertility, vegetable gardens, livestock, sexuality, & masculinity). He also greatly admires Pseudologos (god of lies). Aplistos was the official mentor to Zelus (god of envy, jealousy, & zeal).

At the spa he loves getting the liquid gold facial.

Aplistos has been enjoying hanging out with Chrysos. They often frequent the Golden Grove country club to play golf.

His all time favorite meal is double grilled caviar stuffed salmon drizzled in lemon butter sauce and garlic rice.

In his free time Aplistos enjoys tanning, working out, sunbathing, football (soccer), poker, surfing, clubbing, tennis, playing pool, swimming, shopping, dining out, & golf.

Would you have any advice for someone who wants to do what you do professionally? I graduated from undergrad two years ago, but I've been clawing uselessly at the outside of the conservation profession trying to get an entry level job or a grad school position and at this point I'm pretty demoralized, since I want to be out in the field doing things and helping.

Idk if it's a great answer but patience and constantly throwing yourself out there as much as you're able. Patience is my main advice tbh. I went into the aquarium field and that was a few years working at just a hobby shop while being a volunteer aquarist at a public aquarium, and people who have been around my blog long enough might even remember my demoralized posts as I tried to get a job. More and more internships are paid but they're still an unfortunately big part of the field, and it's not uncommon for people to go from internship to internship trying to get that foot in the door.

Coral conservation is a growing field but comes with the huge downside of internships being even MORE expensive travel wise, but necessary for the hands on experience. Most of the people I've met doing more field work heavy stuff have a masters degree so if you want more field work that'll have to be the way to go most likely.

My path was coral aquarium care, which is getting more and more overlap between captive coral stuff and the field stuff (hence me being here).

Mine went like:

-Undergrad, get interested in aquaria and cephalopods (my gateway drug into Weird Invertebrates), was bad at sitting for academia stuff so wanted to avoid that. Had more interest in animal behavior at the time but now most of my job is microbiology and chemistry, which were my worst subjects in college, go figure.

-work at a saltwater hobby store as a filler job that's still enough within my field that i can put it in my resume. Actually learned a lot of husbandry stuff and got into corals this way. A lot of coral aquarists started in a hobby store, it makes you have to get real good at learning to troubleshoot common aquarium problems.

-intern/volunteer part time at a public aquarium while working at the shop. Keep showing up, ask a lot of questions, kept applying. Curator eventually knew they didn't have a spot for me but put in a word for me at the job I'm in now, and we're still friends!

-Got my current job at age 27 shortly after I had a huge crisis about wtf I was doing in life, after a few years got established enough to go on the first field work trip, then a few years later got to join this one at 34. I know people who got into the field later and earlier than me, getting past the "I should be at X point by this age" is the greatest advice I can think of for life in general.

If you want to go the aquarium route and get field work you want to aim for a coastal aquarium or an aquarium partnered with SECORE (a specifically coral propagation organization). BUT.

BUT. this is where the patience comes in. Don't try to aim for the perfect place at the start. Go for what's available, have a goal in mind for where to go once you've gained experience. A bonus of working in aquariums is that they're so expensive to run that you don't really get "roadside aquarium" like you do in zoos. Most will get you the experience needed to move up to a place that fits what you like more, as long as you're ok with needing to move. Smaller facilities are in a way better because you're likely doing way more than just prepping food for the senior keepers.

Also I've noticed a lot of people including me in the field (both academia and aquarium) had a goal or interest in mind but stayed open to other stuff. Aim a general direction but not at a specific target ya feel me?

And if there isn't anything available, honestly those hobby shops are good for a paycheck that's in the general vicinity of marine stuff. It's not bad on a resume just to show you kept aimed in the field while looking for stuff.

Unorganized RUBY GILLMAN Thought Stew

I originally had a whole post typed out for this... And then it disappeared into the ether, because this fella accidentally hit Control+X... Tumblr, you really gotta work on that, I'm still a little miffed that I lost everything that I wrote here... and I'm rewriting the entire thing verbatim, I know- I should've saved it to a word doc first, which I did with this replacement post... Anyways... Thoughts on the RUBY GILLMAN, TEENAGE KRAKEN trailer!

Like the "Things I Loved About" posts I did on PUSS IN BOOTS: THE LAST WISH and STRANGE WORLD, this will be a collection of unorganized thoughts... So, bear with me!

Finally… DreamWorks and Universal reveal that this movie actually exists. I mean, if you looked in the right places, you knew it was a thing. MEET THE GILLMANS was a title you saw, scooper sites had some stuff on it… But strangely, this project was never officially announced to the public until this trailer dropped… A little over 3 months before release. At least with THE BAD GUYS, whose trailer dropped 4 months before it came out, we knew of its existence as an in-development title as far back as the spring of 2018. This is an interesting approach: They’re literally going to marathon-run this film’s marketing campaign. How will it do? Well, I’ll get to that in another post…

First off? Visually? Eye-candy. Colorful as heck. I particularly dig the bioluminescent underwater kingdom, it’s like a mix of sea creature designs and futuristic lightshow aesthetics. Also, that shot of all the jellyfish? Desktop background right there.

You know, to keep waffling on about the underwater world… I’m getting the Aquaria Towers level from SPYRO 2: RIPTO’S RAGE vibes… Heck, I did a whole post on how I’d love to see a SPYRO THE DRAGON movie done in the style of PUSS IN BOOTS: THE LAST WISH, but that’s another story… But all this neon-like bio-luminescence and the overall design of the architecture is also really making me think of a mid-1990s policy “snipe” for National Amusements theaters. I saw this thing A LOT when I was a child growing up in the late 1990s going to the movies quite frequently (I had seen DreamWorks’ debut films ANTZ and likely THE PRINCE OF EGYPT when they had come out, among others), so it’s burned into my brain. So yeah, this underwater world reminds me of that as well. I dig!

The Krakens themselves have like a squishy, bendy, clay-like look. Almost getting much older claymation vibes, like Gumby.

The rest? The above world has a fun look, as do the human characters. Given that this was directed by Kirk DeMicco, who directed DreamWorks’ own THE CROODS, and then VIVO for Sony Animation, it’s fittingly colorful and vibrant. Some of the human design reminds me of the humans in that movie, too. Lots of unlikely shapes and such. Now if this is still set in Florida as rumored, then it fits, because VIVO was set in Florida as well.

The story itself seems like a cross-genre mesh of different ideas: The mythology of Krakens and mermaids, a teen coming-of-age comedy (DeMicco cited John Hughes influences), a family drama, and a… Kaiju battle action movie? Talk about going all out with your basic premise!

Speaking of which, this isn’t at all like LUCA, which was also about sea monsters blending in with humans in a coastal community. That movie was much more informed by director Enrico Casarosa’s Italian childhood, was set in the early 1960s, and was a much more slice-of-life kind of story. Sorta following the day to day of these three kids in mid-century Italy, with no really larger plot, and stakes that are at their level - which I quite liked about that movie. I also do not understand why a lot of people online are suggesting that it’s derivative of TURNING RED… Did TURNING RED invent the teen/coming-of-age movie or something? Is it because in that movie, Meilin has to hide herself when she morphs into a red panda? That kind of thing has been done before, too. The executions for both are very different, even from this film’s trailer.

The film’s logo is also great. As a graphic designer, I'm gonna nerd out about this for a second: “RUBY GILLMAN” is written in a friendly cursive, almost like the kind you’d see inked onto a high school notebook page. The “TEENAGE KRAKEN” is blockier and bolder, with the “K” letterform forming a tentacle. That is very, very cool and very eye-catching! It’s actually reminiscent of the first logo made for THE MITCHELLS VS. THE MACHINES, where the “MITCHELLS” was in a similar kind of written cursive, and “MACHINES” was solid letterforms, suggesting the rigid and mechanic feel of the robots and devices that become corrupted in that movie. The final logo changes “MITCHELLS” to big capital letters, but it still looks like a notebook-like design (like say, that “S” thing everyone drew in the early 2000s), likely in Katie Mitchell’s notebook (as her art and scribbles are all over the movie, visually), but yeah- The RUBY GILLMAN, TEENAGE KRAKEN logo has that vibe, and I really dig it. Nice visual contrast of the protagonist’s wants to have a normal teen lifestyle, and her background and heritage.

I also find it funny that, on land, the antagonistic mermaid Chelsea disguises herself as a redheaded teenager. Some are quick to assume that’s a jab at Disney, or their upcoming remake of THE LITTLE MERMAID, but… It’s likely not much deeper than “Haha, let’s make her a redhead, like Ariel.” Because of how iconic and well-known the 1989 Disney animated film adaptation is, the first thing most folks think of when they hear “mermaid” is a redhead! I’d imagine the character design was locked a while ago, before it was even certain when this would come out. Even then, it’s little more than nothing.

I also noticed that Ruby’s calendar in her bedroom… May. Is that why Chelsea has come to her school? Because it’s Mermay?

So yeah… I am looking forward to this. It’s nice to see a new original DreamWorks movie. In terms of their NOT-sequel movies, this is their first truly original movie, not based on any pre-existing IP or book or story what-have-you, since ABOMINABLE came out in fall 2019… In fact, of the last eight DreamWorks Animation movies… Only ABOMINABLE and THE BAD GUYS were not sequels to any of their previous movies. The studio's new plan, as I have heard once from the trenches, is to have a not-sequel movie and a sequel every calendar year. Last year fit the bill with THE BAD GUYS and PUSS IN BOOTS Dos, this year it’s this movie and TROLLS BAND TOGETHER, next year… KUNG FU PANDA 4 and… Well, who knows. My non-existent money is on RONAN BOYLE… But that’s also another story…

I’m just happy to see that we are indeed getting two DreamWorks movies this year, and one of them is an original… And the original in question looks like a fun time, a mashup of like 3-4 different genres, and boasting a colorful, vibrant, and neat visual style...

A game that I would recommend to everyone who is interested in the theme of mermaids...

Aquaria is an incredible metroidvania of the early 2000s. This game, despite its already authoritative age, will forever remain a warm memory for my heart. Davey and Race bonding over drag and helping each other with costumes and stuff

race being the person to start helping davey get into the drag scene,, yeahhhh. i feel like race would have stwrted drag at a pretty young age; i always headcanon race, jack, and charlie as being brothers raised by Medda, and Medda works in the theatre industry, so its pretty easy for him to snag some makeup as a teenager. he starts experimenting with drag makeup at around age 15 and kind of finds his Look. he gets a job and spends most of his money on wigs and costumes. he learns how to sew from Medda, so he starts making his own costumes, and eventually jack joins in helping him too- this is how jack knows how to design drag looks when he meets davey.

race kind of shows davey the ropes at the clubs, and is how davey meets jack. jack comes to watch race perform with a bunch of their friends, and instantly falls for the tall queen who goes onstage before racer !!

i just. ugh. davey and race essentially being drag sisters <33 i dont think they'd necessarily be in a drag family, maybe later down the line but not now, but they lift and support each other up !!

race in drag is giving. miss fame, aquaria, naomi smalls (pictured below)- very much a queen who focuses on beauty rather than comedy, but still having the comedic charm.

i think that's why he and Davey work so well together; everyone would expect davey to he the beauty queen and race to be the comedy queen, but its the opposite. race is the "comedic relief" in real life and in drag, he just wants to feel pretty and sophisticated. davey is more reserved and quiet out of drag, but drag gives him the confidence to be funny and loud and wild and in-your-face. they're polar opposites in and out of drag, but Race and Davey are a great team!!

first off, i wish there was a bi and straight term as well, they're not 100% the same as e.g. pretty boys or femboys — those categories are even more particular to a certain femdom aesthetic. pretty boys are defined by face, femboys by clothes hair and body, twinks by both.

my suggestion for a word would be "prince". it's positive, people get the gist intuitively, and it's derived from the groundbreaking artist who invented this whole game to the fullest after greek culture laid the foundation, shoutout to apollo. before leo (90s) zac efron (00s) and taemin (10s) paved the way, there was prince in crop tops, heavy makeup, heels, and poses few guys dared.

so, a prince, they're usually the anti-jock/bear, right. more petite in frame, often fashionable like an it-boy (see lucky blue smith), frequently gnc, and found in a 20-30 age group with some exceptions. but i think that's why they are appealing to us, it's a generation thing. just like t. chalamet, lil nas x, and troye sivan hit it big among gen z by sheer exposure, or the eboy/softboy fad in hetero media, although that one wasn't really femdom in spirit and just another brand of manipulative nice guy syndrome.

princes don't come across as physically imposing, they're more tongue in cheek and seductive or cute, the link to your zelda. that caters to somebody with a taste for subs/bottoms who'd rather have them sat on their lap than getting choked out by them which is almost treated as a given, same with spanking or rough sex. so, that notion of twinks has opened the door to something less compulsive gladly.

a prince can come with an edge, twinks and brats may have some overlaps depending on the guy, but at the end of the day, they're subs, both hard and soft. jonghyun has set quite the tone for it artistically, major credit due. he's broken the mold to say that it's so boring and restrictive to be a dominant guy and there's more out there than what the societal landscape offers.

where binaries, monosexuality and hypermasculine/homophobic/biphobic conduct is exaggerated, you won't find a twink able to do their thing or getting attention. sure, gnc people are always there and the world is slowly catching up in some places, although it feels like we're going ten steps backwards as a backlash these days which is unacceptable. that's why k-pop is such a refreshing element in the way that male performers present concepts and a female pov is embraced. nobody deems it punishable or strange if you walk up like this, in fact it's celebrated.

it also bursts the bubble of twink/prince = white and goes even further than just one specific aesthetic. it changes constantly and incorporates actual elements of kink culture rather than leaving men's submission unspoken as an ultimate taboo. it may be commercial, but it is also literal and encourages nonconforming styles and body types as the rise of shinee, skz, or nct exemplifies. the next generation prince/twink trailblazer is sure to be found there, my bet is on taeyong or felix, they're really owning the princeliness.

In the story of this selfship, Aqua meets Aria shortly after the end of Birth By Sleep, after she falls into the realm of darkness and Aria saves her from the Demon Tide. The two get to know each other as they wander the darkness together for what turns out to be more than ten years, going through the story of 0.2 together, until the middle of KH3 when Aqua is rescued from the realm of darkness by Mickey and Riku. After Master Xehanort has been defeated, Aqua is able to go back into the realm of darkness to rescue Aria, and from that point on the two live together in the Land of Departure with the other Wayfinders (which includes a revived Vanitas).

Her name is a pun on Solus Prime.

Orchidstrator and Draguna: two Predacons who are simply vibing during the beast wars. The former is a violinist and ex ninja, Draguna is based on a sea dragon and lounges around in her pond all day.
