PLAYBOYY, the guide.

buckle up, this is going to be a long one fam, but first:

now, where was I... AH, YES!

PLAYBOYY the series is a +18 BL series, directed and produced by Chewin Thanamin and screenwritten by Den Panuwat under Copy A Bangkok. Is set to come out November 16th 2023.

The series explores human interaction and its consequences through sex with themes such as escort sex-trade, illegal pornography, online hook-ups for drugs, covert prostitution and sex-love revenge, all to expose human’s darkest nature.

The MAIN PLOT (yes, it has a plot, is not just porn) of the series focuses on the disappearance of Nant, a 3rd year student at P.B. University who, inadvertently to his friends Zouy and First, started to get involved in the nightlife of Bangkok: buying services, having sex with strangers, getting involved in clips, getting involved in drugs... all of this until he went missing. Both friends, teaming up with Nont, Nant’s twin brother, are now set to find out what happened to Nant and where he, or his body, might be.

Only one thing is for sure: everyone is a suspect.

Yes, you read correctly, this show has a cast of fifteen characters and none of them is safe from scrutiny. So! Let me show you a chart with all the boys:

MISSING

What has happened to him? No one seems to know. What we know is that he's a 3rd year student at P.B. University, at the faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, majoring in Performing Arts. He’s the youngest of the twins. When their parents separated, Nant stayed with their mother, which made him grow into a gentle and sensitive young man, loving towards his friends and fairly cordial to people… But the "perfect nice boy" life made him miserable. Unknown to everyone, Nant started to get involved in the nightlife of Bangkok until he eventually went missing.

Nont, 21 ( Nontnapas Saktawee )

The older of the twins duo. At the end of elementary school, after their parents separation, Nont was forced to leave Thailand with his father to live abroad. Although pretty much an introvert, Nont is outspoken and an entrepreneur, a full contrast to his brother. He’s dead set on finding out what has happend to Nant, and he’s not afraid to approach others with the intention of extorting the truth from them and, if needed, seek revenge. He'll get his little borhter back, any means necessary.

Zouy, 21 ( Sippakorn Kichlerdpaisal )

portrayed by Korn Palat

Just like Nant, Zouy is also a 3rd year student at P.B. University, at the faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, although he’s majoring in Fine Arts. He’s described to be laconic but with a hard punch. Never trust a sweet face, I guess. He’s fascinated by human beauty and erotica: “ Sex has been a beautiful thing for the human race in every age and period of history “ - Zouy in the foreplay video, now forever lost u_u Due to his more shy nature, Zouy has been more of an outsider to romantic and sexual relationships, which makes him curious but also afraid of them. Little does he know that his passion for the “artsy” side of it will pull him towards an unexpected but well versed individual on the matter.

This cutie pie is also a 3rd year student at P.B. University, although his faculty is Medicine. Makes sense for the eldest son of the director of a famous hospital. Maybe is the demanding nature of coming from a wealthy family, maybe is having a mother who puts a lot of pressure and hope onto her children what has turned First into quite the "feral bunny": although he loves his friends to death, he's aggresive, wayward, highly stressed and easly bored. Poor Little Rich Boi™ ( a bop of a song, go listen to it) Maybe is this lack of freedom and entretainment what makes him interested in a particular delivery boy. Or may is how easy is to make him submit to all his commands, no matter how humiliating they are.

Oh, Captain. Sneaky, little Captain. Another 3rd year student at P.B. University, this time in the faculty of Sport Science. Our boy over here is a textbook brat: ambitious but quite the aggitator. He's assertive and quite the talker, but he's also a hot-head with a lot of anger. This might be the reason why he didn't get the position as team captain for the university's rugby team... initially. Pretty boy has in his posession quite the "interesting" clip about fellow student and coach, Keen, and that might have helped get to where he is at right now. But he's a jealous boy, as much as he tries to hide it. Poor thing doesn't know he never had the upper hand in this situation.

Keen, 22 ( Poomin Suphakijkosol )

portrayed by Boat Pakorn

4th year student at P.B. University, at the faculty of Sports Science. Not surprised that he has to coach the university's rugby team instead of the teacher, and it might be for the best. He's authoritative and presses everyone, making him look agressive, but the boy is actually a sweetheart. Although don't think that stops him for being quite the "dominant force" when dealing with little shits like his fellow teammate, Captain. That boy is eating out of the palm of his hand and doesn't even realize.

Porche, 21 ( Patchanon Ponglerd )

portrayed by Fay Chintub

Another cutie pie! Here we go again: 3rd year student at P.B. University, but we adding a new faculty, Business and Administration! He honestly doesn't care about his studies, really. Prom is the oldest out of the two siblings and has already graduated, so whatever plan their influential father has will relay on him, not on Porche. He's just happy to run Miracle Car Care. Mind you, it might be due to the fact that one of his employees tends to offer "special fixes" to the clients, if you catch my drift, and Porche might be using them as way to fullfill the lack of warmth in his life.

Puen, 21 ( Pakorn Booncharoen)

portrayed by Parm Pawarate

Here is where the worlds collide. He's also a 3rd year student at P.B. University, in Sport Sciences alongside Captain and Keen. But he's also the newest addition to the PLAYBOYY line up. You see, he got into the university by a scholarship, but this doesn't make the uni journey less expensive, so the extra money he gains through PLAYBOYY to pay his studies has to, obviously, be a secret. He's shy, silent and doesn't like to fight, which gives him an "innocent" demeanor many guests at PLAYBOYY are interested to "try out", making him quite the rising star. But the boy has ambition, and he doesn't care whom he might have to use to get into the golden throne of the número 1.

Aob, 34 ( Anand Aiemwilai )

portrayed by Aun Warit

Whom is sitted in the golden throne Puen so desperately wants? Aob, of course. He's the most popular host in PLAYBOYY: handsome and charismatic, dashing with his friends, pleasing with his customers. Rised himself from the ground and his gaze is set on saving as much money as possible so that he can have a comfortable life, take care of himself and be proud of his profession. He grew up in a ragged and unwarm family, making him not trustworthy or a believer of love, but he enjoys taking the more "submissive" role when he lets someone in.

Teena, 27 ( Tinarath Somwong )

portrayed by Kaowoat Supasin

You beautiful bastard... He's a senior graduated from P.B. University, at the faculty of Fine and Applied Arts. Just like Puen, Teena used sex work as his way to pay his studies, but didn't left PLAYBOYY right away after his graduation. However, the opression and limited freedom at the club made him take the decision to leave the sex work life behind and went back to P.B. University to offer himself as a nude model for their art classes. He's a hopeless romantic, although life has only thrown rocks to his roof. Due to his former job, no one takes him seriously when it comes to affection, making him cold, but he's really sentimental. And he's sharp. He's being desire for his body for years, that's why he's always worked hard on maintaining it... and yet, the way that 3rd year student looks at him, sends shivers down his spine. The same ones he hopes to provoke on him.

Soong, 24 ( Sorawis Sergio Romano )

portrayed by Jack Giacomo Piazza

Listen, people work with the cards life gives them, okey? Soong has a really basic education, but he's a diligent boy and a hard worker. Good mentality for his delivering job! Oh... and also for a former PLAYBOYY host. He left due to being unable to choose his costumers and, for a while, worked for other hires. But now he "delivers" his "services" to your door 24/7. He's quite layback, but enjoys when things get rough. Pretty rough. A certain wealthy young boy with a lot of anger to unleash might be his perfect match, they just don't know it yet.

Jump, 27 ( Jessada Sopha )

portrayed by Jeffy Chutipan

Another former host of PLAYBOYY. He now works at Miracle Car Care, but hasn't stopped to offer his services. He just... has a new name for them, sort of speak. Is quite surprising to know he used to be a host: he's quite stiff and doesn't like to please anyone. He also doesn't like commitment, so I guess that's why. He hates being objectified, but Porche seems to give him a good time... for a good price, that is.

Prom, 23 ( Prompitch Ponglred )

portrayed by Shell Thankrit

Here we have another Rich Boi™, but in this case he's neither tiny or a meow meow. Prom graduated from P.B. University at the faculty of Business and Administration, same major his little brother is now coursing. However, Porche doesn't seem to know that his older brother doesn't like the live under their father's shadow. So, with a lot to lose and not giving a fuck, he joined PLAYBOYY as host. Makes sense, he's charismatic and sociable, and his BDSM habits attracts clients... Nant among them.

This has made him dive head first into the world of webcam. Whom would have told him that this decision, alongside drug dealing, would make him meet the only light at the end of his tunnel?

Not every sex worker starts their journey in a high-end club like PLAYBOYY, some take the more classic approach of a "massage parlor" kind a way. However, after a client accused him of "molesting them", Phop had to find his footing again. Alone. Is always being like this since he was a kid. What he didn't expect was to find a kindred soul during a drug exchange.

Idk where else to go with this, I binged Rick and Morty last week and I'm dying under an avalanche of Thoughts. Morty CLEARLY seems a more arts/languages-leaning autistic as opposed to Rick's maths/sciences Autistic. (Toxic Morty was sculpting pots while Toxic Rick did experiments (his artsy side is something he keeps hidden/is ashamed of??)) And while not off the top of my head I noticed a few other instances following that example. This lead me to thinking "oh my gosh would Rick completely lose his mind if he saw Morty taking part in a school music group/rock band because Rick was in a band with his friends?? I mean my heart wants to see Rick screaming curses from the far side of a school gym (he was there for adventure purposes) after a rehearsal performance like "FUCK YEAH!!! Suck it BITCHES, " And then he gets Too Into Morty being into Rock and it becomes A Thing

yeah, good point about rick being a math/science autistic and morty being an arts/language autistic!! good catch on the pottery detail, too— you should make your own post about that!

tbh i think morty being an arts/language autistic is definitely one of the reasons i see so much of myself in him. i’ve always really wanted to ‘get’ math, but… alas lmao.

i’ve often thought of morty starting a band/going through a music phase, and how rick would react to that! similar to how all of rick’s original songs were about how ‘nothing matters’ and super depressing, i suspect all of morty’s original songs would have a theme.

good thoughts, though!! i could totally see that being a thing! i mean, there are multiple scenes where the boys listen to music and i’d love to see where it would overlap for them! especially since i bet morty’s ability to vocalize his feelings would be a lot more efficient than rick’s, i’d love to compare his lyricism to lyrics rick has written.

i wonder if incorporating music/arts into the show has the potential to be dynamic-shifting. for once, morty could be the one with more skill. i wonder if that would go over well with rick. i doubt he’d adjust easily.

i definitely think morty is more of a little math/science genius than he lets on. he presumably figures out how to disarm the nutrino bomb in an instant, his room is full of robots and space stuff, and he’s great at memorizing science facts he picks up here and there. we even have the scene in ‘a rick in king mortur’s mort’ where he lectures to the knights of the sun and illustrates his scientific reasoning on the white board!

i’ve always suspected that he’s a little science guy who just doesn’t get math that well, haha.

Be My Muse (Visual Novel)

Genre: Horror/Romance

Be My Muse has a very nice musical theming to it- very curiously artistic, I guess would be the best way to say? I like the way the music is set and how the story starts out and I personally like the way the MC is characterized. It really sets the tone to make you wonder who exactly Zecharias is and what will happen as the story goes on. If you are interested in this vn, please check out @remindyouvn for more information.

The story starts out with Merry talking about their fear of crowded places, how they make them feel nervous. They really enjoyed art and ended up having their art in an art exhibit. Merry is nervous about the crowds of people judging their art and stands in the corner hoping no one will come talk to them. They look at their painting of a man standing in the ocean with a dark stormy sky and feels like it was uninspired. Not wanting to stay with all of these people, Merry slips out to the hallways where they're able to calm down. The lights go out suddenly and they hear a voice singing. They hear the voice getting closer as they're transfixed by the song and see them walk closer. Merry is interrupted by their best friend Estelle and Salvador who have come looking for them. Estelle seems worried when they were looking for Merry as two people seemed to disappear from the hall. Estelle brings Merry back to the artist hall to watch Estelle and Salvador's performances before again slipping back to the hall. There, they hear again the sound of singing and follow the sound, only to run into a tall individual. Merry helps to picks up some of the things that he drops and he tells Merry that he was hired at the last second to be a replacement singer. The two bond over their dislike of crowds and he mentions that he was looking for a muse to paint a portrait for. While Merry feels a bit unnerved by him, they agree to be his muse and he introduces himself as Zecharias. Merry notes that his last name is the same as the Greek Goddess of memory and Zecharias remembers that they had an interest in mythology before dragging them into an empty room. After making an easel and chair pop out of existence, and hazily, Merry starts to pose for him. Zecharias talks about the value of memories before painting. Merry sits there in a daze as Zecharias asks if they would continue being his muse before the two of them hear a shriek in the distance. Zecharias leaves under the excuse of dropping his water cup and commands Merry to stay there. Merry starts to question how they got there as their memory starts to become clearer before realizing that they have to meet Estelle after the recital. They get up and get curious about the painting, only to find a very lifelike portrait of Merry...and on the back multiple other sketches from Merry's personal life. Merry leaves to try to warn Salvador and Estelle about what happened.

One of the small things I like about the demo is how Merry is characterized. I personally like MCs that have a key issue that they struggle with, whether it be something like anxiety or even anger issues that help with characterizing them. Merry throughout the demo struggles with crowds and social anxiety, even down to the way they view their artwork, which they feel anxious about people viewing and judging them. This in turn allows them to connect with Zecharias more naturally and gives them reason to run into him when they do. Another thing that I like is the music chosen for each scene, generally revolving more around classical type music as they're in an art exhibit. From the piano that plays when first hearing Zecharias's voice to more gentle guitar when meeting Estelle and Salvador to the more tense music when meeting Zecharias again, it really does encapsulate more of the artsy theme that's going on.

The entire thing around Zecharias is pretty mysterious though it's likely safe to say that he's not human. I do like how memories and whatnot are tied into this game, with Zecharias being able to seemingly manipulate and keep memories. It's also interesting seeing that Merry is at least initially a bit skeptical of Zecharias, feeling that something is wrong, but still getting dragged along. Zecharias as a yandere seems to have the theme of memories, likely having stalking as one of his primary traits, though in a more...indirect inhuman way as it seems to again go through memories. It's also likely that he possibly would get rid of Salvador or Estelle in one way or another, either possibly wiping off the memory or actually getting rid of them- something that may happen especially since Estelle is one of Merry's best friends and Salvador (seemingly) seems to have some sort of crush on Merry despite his more abrasive personality. I am curious to see how or why Zecharias fell in love with Merry in the first place, whether it be their artwork or something special about their memory. Either way though, I am excited to see what will continue to happen in this game.

Overall, I am excited for the full game. Other than a couple of spelling errrors. I think the concept of the story is pretty well done for the demo and seeing who or what Zecharias actually is surely seem like a fun time.

What's weird is that Clawd had a wholeass animated theme song on mh's youtube channel that hinted at him being an inventor and an artist, which like, yeah, that's cool, that could work! And the show just doesn't hint at... Anything of that? Him being a quick thinker who can make different things on the spot because he had to learn how to improvise while hunting for pests in Behem could be fun! Or maybe have him have a rivalry with Frankie, maybe he has troubles with understanding how Frankie can (seemingly) often create things that don't really have a point? And maybe he could learn that things don't always need to have an important point and you can just make things for fun. Or maybe he wasn't able to pursue art in Behem because he was busy helping his mom and didn't have the time/materials to create? Or an episode where Clawdeen thinks that it's so cool that Clawd got to see so many different weird creatures and such, since she loves anything supernatural, but Clawd brings her down to earth, because it wasn't at all fun for him to often be put in dangerous situations, and they kinda reach a new understanding, maybe Clawd is jealous that Clawdeen got to go to a normal human school, and then she can show him that it wasn't nearly as fun for her as he thought it would be.

I liked that bit in the newest episode where Clawdeen and Clawd are trying to throw a birthday for Apollo and Clawd thinks that it's so weird that people on Earth eat cake for birthday? That was neat; I think that you're right that his past in Behem should be explored and give him a bit more angst? About missing his mom, him adjusting to life in a place where he doesn't have to fight for his life every day, and that he can stop looking out for threats everywhere? I'm not saying to give him some serious case of PTSD, I don't think that it would fit the tone of the show, but you know what I mean. Maybe Draculaura could be into his slightly more brooding side, and they could bond over their creativity, Clawd with his inventing and Draculaura with magic and potions? Both of these things can be dangerous and used for combat/evil, but they both managed to make it something their own, and "tame" it, use it as their own way of making art and beauty?

Okay, sorry for the tangent lmao. Sidenote, but I always wanted Clawd and Clawdeen to have more wolf-like mannerisms, maybe Clawdeen finds them embarassing/hard to deal with sometimes, like she shreds homework, chews on things when she's stressed/bored, barks when someone knocks on the door etc, so maybe with Clawd around, who was aware that he's a werewolf since he was born (I think) she has someone else to go through it with, and she isn't as embarrased?

Those are some great ideas! If they'd implemented any of these he'd already feel like a more compelling character.

I find it curious how his artsy and inventive side were a whole point in that mv, yet they don't make use of that at all, and he's been in a lot of episodes so far. Even if that's planned to come up in the future, it not getting mentioned at all so far is strange. We shouldn't have to rely on external media to make a character seem more interesting.

I love your idea of him not getting how Frankie can make things just for fun because he never had the time to create just for the sake of it, that could make for an amazing plot and creates ample opportunity for character growth. We could see him learn about what moves him and see the beauty in things existing for no other reason than to bring joy.

You're idea for an episode about Clawdeen and him would be perfect for showing how differently they grew up and how that shaped them as people- we could learn more about how growing up where he did impacted him, and them possibly even envying the other? The realisation that it wasn't sunshine and rainbows for either of them would be a wonderful bonding opportunity.

I do think he should get just a little angst. Yes, this show is fairly lighthearted, but it's tackled plenty of types of conflict, and if you're setting a character up with this kind of backstory, you have to explore the consequences.

His and Draculaura's main interests having the potential for destruction, but them both choosing to do good with them would genuinely be a neat parallel. And Drac is shown to have an artistic side aside from her witchcraft, she was painting in one episode and we know she has an interest in acting. These are things they could bond over if, you know, Clawd ever gets to be shown liking art.

Speaking of that, the music videos talked about Clawdeen's interest in fashion design too. How come that hasn't come up yet either? We're pretty far into the season, and she is the main character.

Taylor Swift Eras Legacy Challenge

This challenge is inspired by my love of Taylor Swift. While each generation’s requirements are inspired by themes found in her albums, they are not meant to be a reflection of what I think of Queen Taylor. I have not play-tested, so please let me know if there are any problems! I know I’m not the only one to make a challenge like this, but I’m hoping mine is not too similar to anyone else’s. Any overlap is completely unintentional.

For each generation, complete the required aspiration, career, and skills.

The aesthetic and colors for each generation are not required, but I think they make it more fun!

Each generation can begin with starter funds, or 0 simoleons if you want to make it more challenging. If you have multiple generations living together, you can keep the household funds from each generation in the family.

📚 BOOKS: Do they like to read? What kind of books do they like?

luna is an avid reader actually! it's one of her favorite past times-- sitting in the comfortable place with lots of pillows around, reading a nice novel, she is all for it!

she is type of person to give every book a chance, though she is not known for her patience, so if the book is not to her liking within 40-50 pages she won't read it any further.

i imagine luna's favorite type of books is something that will keep her on the edge of her seat, wanting to read more and unable to tear herself away from reading more and more until the book is finished. she doesn't have a favorite genres per se, she reads almost everything, fiction and nonfiction (despite her protests she does read sappy romance novels too).

2. 🏹 BOW AND ARROW: What’s their preferred weapon, if anything?

rapiers! she likes how they feel in her hand. close second is dueling sword.

hmm, that depends. she doesn't like places that are too crowded, and you usually wouldn't find her there for she is prone to having migraines because of the loud noises, and i'll be honest she doesn't see the appeal of going to either of these events, but if someone very (and i mean, very) dear to her wanted to go there, she would begrudgingly agree and she won't admit it if she had a good time. she wouldn't necessarily dress up to fit the theme, but she would dress up to look nice.

she loves listening to live music, but performances is what she likes the most about it. hearing the story unfold through a song while a dancer or an actor does something to bring the story to life even more is something that luna greatly enjoys.

voices is the hardest thing for me but she sounds somewhat similar to leliana from dragon age!

she can sing, and her voice sounds very soothing when she does, but luna doesn't do it too often. she used to sing to and with her brother, but.. these times have long passed unfortunately.

i wouldn't call her artsy to be completely honest, she appreciates art, but she had never had a desire to try it herself. she is more of a collector of art, so to say-- she buys or commissions a painting from an artist and that's it.

she does, from time to time, depends on the company. she is all for playing some chess with her friend while drinking fine wine and eating fresh fruits. she's usually laid back, however, she can get quite competitive and it never ends well lmao.

as i said in the 🎧 she loves watching stories unfold in front of her, so yeah, she enjoys theatre very much.

she knows how to play harp since it was and still is the instrument the sound of which she loves the most. her half sister was actually the one who taught luna how to play it. they are not as close as they had been, but they are connected by something at lest even if it just the sound of a lonely harp.

Happy Pride Month!! Queer Media Recommendations from yours truly

Disclaimer: These are just things I personally liked and wanted to share. You might not like them and that's ok!

Her Tale of Shim Chong (webtoon by Biwan, Seri) - A retelling of the Korean folk tale 'The Tale of Shim Chong'. I love this webtoon. The character development is great and I really loved its take on the original folk tale (which I recommend checking out first if you read this). There are some twisted moments - it's not dark/grim but it's not super light/fluffy either. The story gripped me the whole way through though and the ending is superb (in my opinion). Also the art and colours are very pretty.

Mom I'm Gay (webtoon by Boreum) - Features a boy and girl who are childhood best friends, and both gay. I like this one because it focuses more on their relationship with their families, in particular their mothers, and how their views change. It's not that long, but overall it's sweet and touching, and best of all, has a happy ending. I read it here.

Desert Hearts (1985 film directed by Donna Deitch) - 'A love story about two women, made entirely independently, on a shoestring budget, by a woman.' - from Kanopy, the platform I watched it on. It follows the relationship between a professor staying in a ranch while her divorce is processed, and the ranch owner's daughter. It's set in 1959 Nevada, and there's a jukebox soundtrack (i.e. the vibes are immaculate). There's some drama and yearning, but I liked the way the romance developed, and how it ended (also the outfits hello??).

Happy Together (1997 film directed by Wong Kar-Wai) - mild spoiler alert: it does include the song of the same name! Set in Buenos Aires, it depicts the last days of a turbulent relationship between two men from Hong Kong. This film is very much 18+, so please be careful if you do watch it. (It literally opens with an explicit scene asldkj) It starts in black and white but soon switches to colour -all the settings and shots are beautiful (very aesthetic, very visually pleasing), and I really liked the dialogue and banter between the characters.

I also watched this one on Kanopy. (It's a good platform for classic and indie movies, all those really artsy films that watching them make you feel like a movie connoisseur... more importantly it's free to access, you just need a uni account or public library account. I've found some good movies through it so I recommend checking it out!)

I Favor the Villainess (web novel by Inori) - A girl wakes up as the heroine of an otome game, but (as the title suggests) she likes the villainess. There are also a few trans characters in this that appear in later chapters, central to the plot. What I love about this one is how it feels like there's a lot of influence from the author's own personal thoughts and experiences. The depth of the characters, the setting, the twists and turns... Despite starting out really light-hearted, there were surprisingly serious moments which ended up leaving a deep impression on me.

In looking it up to check the author's name, I found out there's another series now from the villainess' point of view, so I'll be reading that asap haha.

The Owl House (cartoon by Dana Terrace) - What's not to love about The Owl House. Basically a western isekai with fantasy and a magic school, and the most loveable cast of characters. Watching this as the first season was being released, the development of Luz and Amity took me by surprise ngl, but they are simply adorable. The only enemies to lovers you'll ever see me recommending.

On the theme of cartoons, we also have Kipo with Benson and Troy (also adorable, and absolute banging soundtrack to go with), and The Legend of Korra (Korra and Asami, it's lacking in the show but there's more of their relationship + other LGBT characters in the comic books that continue from where the show ended).

Wandering Son (Hourou Musuko) (anime/manga by Takako Shimura) - About two students questioning their gender identity, and their journey as they grow up. Heartwarming, but a bit more serious with a more thoughtful and slightly heavy tone. I liked how it portrayed the growth and development of the two main characters as they go through their own individual discoveries of themselves. I haven't seen the anime but I read the manga back when I was still in high school (it's been a while haha).

overall it was fun, i liked it! very artsy. one of roxane's songs was like kinda weird horny but it's the u know. romantic period drama sensuality and it was like at least tastefully done so eh! makes her a more understandable character than how she appears in most versions where it just feels like she wants to be in a better book club lmao

i DO think the musical adaptation of it was like, a good translation of a historical work for a modern non-french audience. but the songs, while fun and good and artsy, were kind of still at the same time sorta? idk generically...not Hollywood but idk. like songs u hear and go "yeah this is part of a musical"

like cyrano the movie focusing on the romance plotline and the whole societal expectations/body image thing. loved the leitmotif of like, i forget the wording but "everyone wants to be loved for who they are" basically. the parallels betw christian and cyrano's deaths were rly good!

kind of mixed feelings on both of their death's honestly? but to focus on positives the parallel between christian sort of. giving up on roxane "i only want to be loved if it's for myself, and what roxane loves isn't me" and uhhh running into bullets basically. that paralleled with cyrano's "i have given up and am dying today". like it is the extreme lack of faith and emotional low that makes them easy pickings. i def had other thoughts but they are eluding me i need to marinate them a bit more maybe

but yeah on the cons side, i do think w/ the changes they made to cyrano's death scene (him getting his epic 10 seconds of mutual love and mouth on mouth), while more uh "positive" than other versions sort of undercuts the "tragedy" title of it. missed connections, too much has happened between the beginning and where we are now, cyrano's refusal to let go of his own pride and penchant for drama to fully accept its reciprocacy.

tho on that not his "and i loved...my pride" line was raw and epic it's like yes the realization all too late that you are your own worst enemy, you might've said you loved her but it was your inability to love yourself that affected your relationships with others, made it so you could never actually have any real faith in the person you love, that it was your simultaneous idolization and denegration of her image that got in the way. etc etc etc.

but yeah ANYWAY like it's bc the focus of the movie was fully on the romance and not any of the other themes that christian kind of got a worse deal than he usually does it almost feels like. like, the scenes he got were good ofc, but how he was fully cut out of the entire finale almost and basically just a prop for said 10 seconds of happiness that don't usually occur. also im still confused on that sequencing from christian's dead body to jesus i still don't get it but another thing marinating in my mind.

this is all to say ig that nothing goes as raw as national theater live having his dead body on the floor and then his actor physically between them in the entire end scene. also like idk there could've been just a little more of a focus on the "war is hell and it is the boys who never got to grow to be anything more than boys" bit

OK so they cut a LOT from the original bc the original has that "art is controlled and censored by the people in power when it should be used to fight for the people" subplot, so basically everything from that is cut. which i get bc of time constrains w/ movies compared to theater productions, and like the director being the pride and prejudice director and the entire marketing of the movie being on the romance aspect of it and not that. so yeah i get the rationale! but sad tho

tbh i dont think it even explained specifically WHY cyrano said fuck that guy to montfleury in the beginning the whole convo cyrano had w his bro abt it just centered on roxane, and the "cyrano getting into a fight in the night to save his bro" scene was also subsequently refitted

cyrano's boyz night scene where he's dramatically reinacting his fight the previous night :( like instead it just has him angstily boxing in the corner which doesn't showcase his extreme chadness. also christian's introduction as just being kind of a mouthy brat lol

degich? i can never remember or spell his name but bitchy rich, they cut out his "war is bad and it's made me a better person" redemption arc but who cares so lol. moving on <3

roxane's epic girlboss moment was cut out. SAD. and subsequently the scene w/ the baker being a recurring character was ALSO cut out. quite the loss but ig they at least showcase roxane's ability to be an active character in other scenes so not a total loss

both of cyrano's moon monologues :( sad! also the timeskip being dramatically shorter and only three years. i do think switching his gradual health decline to be A-actualy consequences from the war and B-less him refusing to stop pissing people off without accepting help from others to just full inability to take care of himself. like yes really showcase his issues and also that poverty and its consequences exists outside of an aesthetic backdrop

Favorite changes things:

there was a musical/dance number in the bakery :) we only got to see the baker in that initial scene but love him

boyz night did get cut but the christian musical number kind of fucked hard so all is forgiven actually

OK depending on the variation the way cyrano dies changes, like he gets assassinated in diff ways so in one they drop bricks on him or smth and in another a carriage runs him over. (im p sure it's the 1990?) i think they referenced the carriage running him over version bc they had post-timeskip him walking and a carriage barrel pass and him collapse as it does (like. not it running him over just these two seperate events framed together) and i was like haha...i get the reference. kinda mean but i did laugh in the theater a little i was like brooooo

OH the movie starts not w in the theater but w roxane getting ready for it! so yeah epic girlboss moments. she didn't get to be angry at the very end like she was in the national theater live modern rap version but she did get a "im angry" song around the middle of the plot so u kno. girls who get to be angry

i do admit i cried at the scene where the ensemble cast of soldier's got to sing about their loved ones and accepting that they're being sent off to die. anyway

anyway yeah! i liked it it was good but i DO think if they were gonna strip it down to its bare romance they should've had cyrano and chris kiss also tho like it's simply only fair

Tumblr just showed me one of your posts and I realised that I never told you how amazed I am by your prose both in the game and on your blog (I feel simply calling it writing doesn‘t cut it). How you put your thoughts, emotions and atmosphere into descriptions and dialogue is absolutely stunning to me and feels ‘artsy‘ to me in the best possible way. I love this particular very inner-workings/stream of consciousness (?) based storytelling (I‘m not a literature expert, it‘s just how I would describe it). It made me fall absolutely in love with your characters while also being in awe/slightly intimidated of/by them - which I think works very well with the atmosphere you‘re creating, especially in scenes with Charet (which is again supported by the music and your amazing art).

I can‘t wait to play more of it someday (and until then I‘m just gonna replay it over and over again) and hope you feel appreciated by this <3

And I yearned and suffered from the fact that I could not think of something worthy that could show at least a part of my gratitude and admiration for your softness and feelings, and I would like my answer to seem complicated and interesting this time, since I would never want to leave you empty-handed. Yesterday morning, a very strange, special and inherently distant insight came to me - and I hasten to share with you everything that came to my mind, and I hope that you will like it more uwu

The difficulty was also that I am not so much fond of fiction in the traditional concept - my pace of life is restless and changeable, and, as a rule, I have enough patience and perseverance only for poetry and short stories, guided to a greater extent by a sense of aesthetics and associations (because yes, my writing style is a stream of consciousness and you completely hit the mark - I can't write in any other way, except relying on feelings and impressions * --- *) than a serious approach to the plot and idea. Apart from literature (and any other sources), which would be too hackneyed and understandable in its fame, it seemed to me that there were very few things that could interest and impress you, but now I want to think that I was wrong.

The list that I have sketched consists of writers and poets, who are united by the main thing - the fact that they are equally representatives of the same culture with me, and their feelings and aesthetics, colorfulness and sense of language were with me from the beginning of my early years and formed my idea of ​​the world and about the art of writing in general. In other matters, I do not think that the writing style and elements of history and culture will be simple and understandable - I myself have not always felt attraction and warm feelings towards them, but this is something that, I hope, can turn out to be completely new and fresh, not like anything you have experienced before experience, yet close in spirit to what I am myself trying to portray.

Starts from lighter comedies and flamboyant plays and ends in dark fantasy and heavy historical drama. The first of them are very short and read in one gulp - the last are longer, but with a reasonable volume of novels, so they can keep you busy, yet not bored;)

1. "Forest Song" by Lesia Ukrainka. This is a play written in a bright and lively language - but this is a great start if you want to read something light and airy, yet with elements of dark fantasy and Slavic folklore. The combination a little strange at first glance, - this a romantic fairy-tale play that tells about Mavka (a forest nymph), who was in love with a young human man. "Forest Song" is easy to perceive as a poetic fairy tale, but it also has a dark and tragic ending, and raises the theme of human existence in nature and the world in itself - their struggle between feelings, inspiration, brightness of perception and down-to-earthness of life, simple and understandable needs . This play prompted me to think about Margot - as the personification of these worlds and worries, but much darker, heavier and more mysterious, far from human nature.

2. "The Night Before Christmas" by Nikolai Gogol - a writer who has always been the most important and favorite for me, with a rich and varied language which I tried to copy and imitate most of my school years. "Night before Christmas" is included in the collection "Evenings on a Farm near Dikanka", which are equally small masterpieces, but it was "Night" that was a vivid and memorable experience, with such a close aesthetics of a small settlement, a heavy blizzard, creaking snow, and devils, prowling in such a mysterious darkness. This is a comedy with idealized romance - and based on it, both films were made and plays are staged, and it tells about the hopelessly in love with beautiful Oksana blacksmith Vakula, who with a cunning mind captured the devil and forced him to help Vakula in courtship. The story is very down-to-earth and light, but with elements of everyday life and culture of the Ukrainian hinterland, which can either turn out to be an interesting experience or push you away to your liking. There are Christian rituals, and descriptions of everyday life, and witches, and folk beliefs, elements of mundane comedy, the historicity of that era and many bright and partly gloomy aesthetics. This part of the culture is closely related to my thoughts and ideas about Margot, as well as about other characters and travelers from the continent (I was also inspired by the Romanian, Georgian, Mongolian and Tatar cultures equally *---*)

3. "Taras Bulba" by the same Gogol is a historical tragedy, difficult and complex, but with strong artistic elements - with a powerful feeling of a gloomy, dark era, characters in which many real and legendary persons were combined, and although they speak of it as romantic nationalism, I have never perceived it in this way (and I do not advise anyone, given the fact that you can find similar elements in almost every name in this literature). It tells about the Zaporozhye Cossack and his two sons, about the times of long wars and dark ages, and it will be a bright and exciting experience for someone far from this culture - it vividly and richly displays the life and psychology of a country that has long ceased to exist.

4. "Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors" by Mikhailo Kotsyubinsky is a dark historical story, written under the strong impression of the gloomy and mysterious culture of the Hutsuls - the Ukrainian culture of highlanders and old pagans, and the story, at first similar to a much heavier and darker version of Romeo and Juliet, smoothly flows into dark fantasy. It contains the complex psychological baggage of the hero, and a colorful description of such a strange and distant culture, the history of blood feuds and marital betrayal, and the dark forces of a crushing and dangerous nature dominating the earth.

Oh, and also, perhaps, if you have an interest in poetry - I have two big names, Ivan Franko and Taras Shevchenko. The first is a bright romantic of Galicia, with deep sensuality and passion, the second is the father of Ukrainian literature, a poet and artist, the son of a difficult and dark era with art to match him.

Compromise by Joywave: I had a lot to pick from with Joywave, most of their songs dealing with existential dread (new album very good please listen). But Compromise is about reclaiming sanity and individual freedoms, both of the kid’s themes in their lives I think. Nezumi never compromising, Hibiko always doing so.

Debaser by Pixies: a surrealist, avant garde film made by Salvador Dali inspired the song and I couldn’t make their playlist without adding some artsy, poetic reference. Honestly just the general vibe of the song felt like them? Plus just something they could talk about, early art films.

Sunday Girl by Blondie: I really can't help putting a Blondie song in any playlist I make. A lot of the lyrics feel very Hibiko @ Nezumi.

When You Sleep by CAKE: can be either about wondering about the smallest, unimportant details of a lover, or wondering how someone behaves when they're just them and nothing to hold back. There's a hand thing going on. Touch. Nezumi, hands! Anyways, I think they're both interested in figuring out who the other really is. Hibiko doesn't think he's fake at all, and doesn't even want to break down his walls, just the reason for them.

If Everyone Was Listening by Supertramp: back at it with the existential dread but ⭐theatrical⭐. Hibiko, always putting on an act. Nezumi, expressing himself through acting. It feels deeper than I can put in words frankly. I'm not poetic enough to explain but it felt very appropriate.

This week on Great Albums: a stupendously underrated classic of queer punk meets synth sophistication, and an album without which we wouldn’t have Dare by the Human League: Homosapien, the 1981 solo opus of Buzzcocks frontman Pete Shelley. Find out more by watching the video, or reading the transcript below!

Welcome to Passionate Reply, and welcome to Great Albums! Today, I’ll be talking about one of those albums that isn’t necessarily the most acclaimed or best remembered work of its period, but nonetheless played an important role in history, and remains unrivaled for its uniqueness: Pete Shelley’s Homosapien, first released in 1981.

Shelley has historically been chiefly remembered as the frontman of the punk act, Buzzcocks. But, despite punk’s reputation for simplicity to the point of obnoxiousness, Shelley was one of many musicians to come from the punk scene with a penchant for experimental or otherwise ground-breaking music. His very first solo release, 1980’s Sky Yen, features little more than a brash wall of oscillating electronic noise, not unlike the earliest provocations of industrial artists like Cabaret Voltaire.

Music: “Sky Yen (Part One)”

Subsequent generations of critics have gone great lengths to coin and define terminology, in the hopes of breaking this period down into constituent parts, but the more I study it, the more I’m inclined to view it as just a huge soup. There was, quite simply, a lot going on in Britain’s underground in the late 70s and early 80s, and in practice, the lines between punk, post-punk, industrial, synth, noise, and other avant-garde miscellany are frequently illegible. As an artifact of this era, Homosapien resonates with all of the contradictions this melting pot would imply, fusing emotional rawness and pristine production in a way that never quite settles down and feels comfortable.

Music: “I Don’t Know What It Is”

“I Don’t Know What It Is” served as the opening track of the album’s second side, as well as its lead single. With a bona fide guitar solo as well as a propulsive, and truly soaring, chorus, it somewhat resembles that most 1980s of art forms, the power ballad. It is, ostensibly, a love song, and is revealed to be one quickly enough, but its portrayal of love is far from kind. While a real power ballad might take the concept of love for granted, “I Don’t Know What It Is” seems to portray it as something mysterious, inscrutable, and dangerous. And I can’t forget to mention just how much Pete Shelley stands out as a vocalist--his high-pitched, perhaps even fried or shrill vocals add a great deal to the song’s sense of unease, and really sell the idea of someone who’s being overtaken by an uncontrollable and dominating force.

Of course, perhaps the most noteworthy thing about Homosapien’s sound is its fusion of the hard, driving acoustic guitar of punk with the electronic sensibilities of its producer, Martin Rushent. I wouldn’t say this combination is ever terribly cohesive in its sound, but I think that’s why I find this album so interesting: there’s a tension that permeates each track, a feeling that things don’t fit together. While Homosapien is a pioneering work of electronic-centered production, enough of the pieces are still in place that you can certainly hear the shape of music to come as you listen to it. It’s not just the synthesisers, but also the use of electronic percussion here--it’s difficult to overstate the impact that so-called “drum machines” had around this time. While reviled by many, both then and now, rhythm machines were undeniably “instrumental” in changing what popular music sounded like. Even synthesiser-based electronic acts like Gary Numan, OMD, and Kraftwerk often relied on traditional percussion, so this genuinely was pretty shocking at the time.

Perhaps the most important element of the legacy of Homosapien is the fact that Martin Rushent would go on to use the skills he honed here to produce one of the most influential albums of the 1980s, and perhaps of all time: The Human League’s Dare, which would go on to cast an enormous shadow on nearly all popular music to come, after playing an enormous role in instigating an era of popular dominance of synth-pop. In that sense at least, Homosapien is certainly a very historically important album, and for that reason alone, I think it deserves a fair bit more attention than it gets. Still, for as much as the electronics might be the most forward-looking element of this album, one also can’t deny that it remains full of aggressive and perfectly punk overtones, as on the crass or perhaps dismissive screed of “Guess I Must Have Been In Love With Myself.”

While Homosapien has many moments of seemingly being too thorny to get a good grip on, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t also times in which it can feel like a bit more than the sum of its apparent parts, as on its most narrative-driven track, “Pusher Man.”

“Pusher Man” is one of, if not the, most synth-centered compositions to be had on Homosapien, but its insistent pacing and neurotic portrayal of the “low life” theme of buying illicit drugs mean you’ll never confuse it for run of the mill synth-pop. Moreso than anything else the album offers, this track reminds me of the sort of “synth-punk” that American acts like the Units and Crash Course In Science would put forward at around the same time. “Pusher Man” was, at the very least, a sufficiently experimental track to earn the honour of being cut from the US release of the album in order to make room for some non-album A-sides, as happened to many albums at the time. But hey, that’s enough beating around the bush. Let’s talk about the real crown jewel of this album.

Music: “Homosapien”

If you’ve heard anything from this album before, chances are, it was probably the title track, which proved to be quite the commercial success--despite being banned by the BBC on account of its homoerotic content. Given that this very same year, they also came after OMD’s “Enola Gay” for its obviously nonexistent reference to homosexuality, one might be forgiven for thinking that a tune called “Homosapien” was simply misinterpreted. The title track isn’t terribly explicit material, but its clever wordplay nonetheless deals quite deftly with issues of sexuality and personal identity. In the earlier verses, Shelley introduces us to typified roles of gay male sexuality--the “cruiser,” the “shy boy”--only to seemingly doff them with the tune’s defiant refrain, asserting that the only truly important identity a human being has is that of “Homosapien.” Far from being an unfortunate coincidence, the similarity of “Homosapien” to “homosexual” is being employed here completely deliberately, particularly with it being mashed into a single word and thus gaining a greater resemblance to the word “homosexual” in print. It not only allows Shelley to belt out a borderline dirty word, but also creates a sort of unconscious syllogism, suggesting, in a sense, that homosexuals are people too.

With elements of both unapologetic pride in one’s own queerness, as well as the uncompromising assertion that humanity is something much deeper than that, the title track of Homosapien is one of the most fascinating and inspiring queer anthems of its time. Its artsy slipperiness has prevented it from feeling more shallow with time, and its straightforward or raw quality, intensified by that constant acoustic guitar, has kept it sounding equally sharp. It genuinely does surprise me that this album isn’t at least a little bit better remembered than it is. Outside of the title track, most of this album is currently not available on services like Spotify and YouTube Music at the time of this writing, and I actually struggled to present musical examples here. That’s really a pretty high level of neglect in this day and age, and I hope it can be rectified in the relatively near future.

It would be no exaggeration for me to say that Homosapien features some of my very favourite cover art of any album. Homosapien’s sleeve design sees Shelley occupy some sort of sleek, but hollow hyper-modernist office. Geometric forms suggest the world of the artificial or ideal. An Egyptian statue beside Shelley is a reminder of history, and the idea that even the greatest empires must eventually fall. Likewise, the telescope and early computer positioned nearer to Shelley are evocative symbols of science and technology--but in context they seem more sinister, being juxtaposed against a phrenology bust, which evokes the ways in which our attempts at science have caused misunderstanding and great human misery in the past. The central scene is framed in with large areas of black, which make the space feel even more claustrophobic and uninviting, and Shelley appears to be pushed into the background, almost belittled by the inanimate objects. Overall, I think it’s sort of funny that this album’s cover is perhaps more iconally “New Wave” than the music itself ended up being, particularly with Shelley clad in this somewhat foppish white suit and bow tie--certainly a big change of attire for a former punk!

Given the experimental nature of the collaboration between Shelley and Rushent, you might be surprised to learn that Homosapien actually wasn’t a one-off. Just two years later, Shelley would release a follow-up LP, XL-1, which was also produced by Rushent and largely continues the same ideas. While Shelley would never see the success of “Homosapien” again, the XL-1 single “Telephone Operator” would also chart to a lesser degree.

My favourite track on Homosapien is “Qu’est-ce que c’est que ça,” which closes out the first side of the album. If you’re familiar with my other work, you probably already know that I’m coming at this as someone chiefly interested in the electronic side of things, and I think that of everything on this album, “Qu’est-ce que c’est que ça” is the closest to being convincing as a synth-pop tune. With a bubbly, synth-dominant sound and lyrics that are more contemplative than aggressive, it’s much closer to the mould of what I usually listen to for fun than a lot of the other tracks are. After a few years of trial and error, I think I've finally found the perfect organization method.

In the early years of high school, I had a bullet journal. I was an artsy kid who found a way to combine art with organization in a way that benefited other parts of my life.

However, as I approached the end of high school, my schedule got busier, and I was involved in a lot more things, so owning a bullet journal was less practical. Because of that, I switched to an app called Edo Agenda.

I continued with digital planning in college since I knew I wasn't going to have as much time. But all the apps I tried out—Taskade, Actions by Moleskine, Any.do, Todoist, Wunderlist—weren't suited to my planning and organizational needs. They didn't have the specific functions I required and didn't incorporate an organization system I liked to use. The predefined apps were too restraining, but the more customizable apps weren't customizable enough.

So then I switched to a bare bones, uber minimalist bullet journal method. That worked pretty well my second semester. It was simple, portable, and most importantly, flexible—all the things one could wish for in a planning system. However, it wasn't always the most convenient to use since I couldn't effectively integrate all the different aspects of my life, which, to no surprise, is mostly recorded digitally.

There was just one huge problem with my digital organization system that made me hesitant to switch back in the first place: everything was fragmented. Notes were in Google Docs. Financial records were in Google Sheets. To-Do Lists were in my bullet journal. Team projects were in Trello. My poetry was on Bear. Things I wanted to try are carelessly pinned to random pinterest boards or added to my YouTube "watch later" playlist. It was a mess.

Over the summer, I found out about Notion from a friend, and I thought, this has so much potential, it could even be exactly what I need. It's essentially like an empty notebook on your computer with functions that make it 10x more powerful. Notion allows you to integrate all aspects of your life and work into one app. Some of the advantages that have made me partial to Notion are:

Even greater customization level. Notion is a blank canvas with tons of predefined blocks and different file types. You can make databases, spreadsheets, Kanban boards, to do lists, etc. Also, you can remain connected to other digital services. You can link websites, collaborate with other users, use different structures (e.g. documents, databases, tasks), embed images and videos, etc. There are also tons of formatting options, e.g. text color, highlight, heading v. body text.

Better organization. Notion allows you to have pages within pages within pages within pages—an infinite hierarchy that you can organize with tables of contents. These pages are made of blocks, e.g. tables, checklists, boards, databases.  Both pages and blocks can be rearranged by simply dragging and dropping them to where you want them to be. In other words, I guess it's kind of like building a website to organize your life. Plus, their database feature is especially powerful as it allows you to connect all your data and get into as much detail as you wish (each entry in a database is its own page).

Templates. There are tons of templates created by both Notion and the community that you can use. These are especially helpful in the beginning since Notion does have a rather steep learning curve. There are template for almost every category: personal, planning, finance, job applications, design roadmap, etc. Check out their template gallery, this medium article called "10 Notion templates to inspire your use", or read on for my own examples!

Shortcuts. This makes typing and documenting so much faster. Notion uses Markdown, which is a text-to-HTML conversion tool, e.g. # = Heading 1, *, - = bullet point, etc.

Notion has some pretty awesome features, but how does one actually use it? Personally, I have four top-level pages: my planner, my personal journal, songwriting, and blogging.

Planner

I've been using my planner to, well, plan and track my day to day activities as well as my week and month. The way I've structured it is a calendar or monthly overview with links to pages of weekly overviews, and if needed, daily overviews within the weekly overview. This links things up so nicely, i.e. I don't have to be constantly flipping pages in my physical bullet journal or planner to find what I need.

I also have entertainment lists, which is mainly a table with all the shows I want to watch, the books I want to read, etc. I keep track of whether or not I've watched them, as well as my personal ratings. What I love most about this is that each entry is its own page, so I can type my notes for each book, show, or film and easily find them in the future. (Also the reason why I have plural “lists” instead of just one entertainment list is because you can filter entries by type of entertainment, e.g. movies, tv shows, books, articles.)

Personal

For personal notes, goals, journal entries, etc. This is kind of like an extension of my daily journal and just where I dump all my thoughts and keep track of the different aspects of my life: mental, emotional, spiritual, social, physical, and travel.

Another page I have is called "Stray Thoughts" and, well, it's pretty self explanatory. It's a lot easier to dump all my thoughts as they come and reorganize them later. Of course, this requires sacrificing the rawness of journaling, i.e. when the thoughts come and how you process them, which is why I still keep a regular journal that I write in daily.

Songwriting

I've been writing a lot of music over the summer and it's often hard to keep track of all of my songs and how far I've gotten in the songwriting process. So I created a table of songs - each entry of a song is a page with its lyrics. These are then tagged with the status of the lyrics (i.e. completed, in progress) and the status of the music itself (i.e. melody only, instrumental, mixing, mastering, revised). Eventually, I'll include demos in the database by embedding audio files in the document.

I have a separate section for inspiration and ideas, which is a kind of brain dump, e.g. words I think would make a good song, a certain theme for a song, a melody that's been stuck in my head, a vibe I'd like to try out, etc.

I've also been watching a lot of tutorials for music production and there's a section where I write my notes for that.

Eintsein

The last section of my Notion app is for this blog. Which has pages for

New posts. These are ideas for future posts, asks that I think would need longer answers, as well as posts that are currently in the draft stage (like this one was before I posted it)

Design assets. This is where I put all the visual branding material for Eintsein.com to be used in posts and any visual material on the blog.

FAQ. Having an FAQ document just makes it so much easier to make changes to your existing FAQ. Plus, if you ever change your FAQ theme, you just have to copy and paste what you already have.

Post directory. I keep track of all my previous masterposts, infographics, and generally longer and more comprehensive posts. It's the exact same as what you see on my Navigation page. And yes, the document contains direct links to the post.

New theme. A project I've been working on the past couple days is trying to create my own theme for my blog. This is where I put all my outlines, brainstorming notes, design inspiration, code snippets, etc.There are some pretty awesome features I’ve made use of in this page:

As you can probably tell, I'm absolutely obsessed with Notion since it has such awesome features and endless possibilities for customization. So far I've been using Notion for personal projects, which, since they are quite big in scale and have no set deadline, are important to organize well. My summer courses were only 6 weeks and weren't difficult to organize.

The formats above are just how I personally use notion. You could make some of your own, or if you don't think you want to build your pages from scratch, there are tons of templates to choose from. Here are some I think I'll be using in the near future and may be helpful for others as well, especially students like myself:

One drawback, however, is that Notion has a rather steep learning curve, but there are tons of tutorials online (especially YouTube) and I guarantee you it's all worth it.

Notion is not just a productivity app. It's a way to concretize your entire life.

Notion is free to use, but there are higher tiers that allow for more blocks, greater file size, etc. I use a personal account, which is $4 per month with unlimited block storage and no file upload limit (although I got it for $33/year). Personally I think the free plan would suit most people's needs, especially if you're not uploading large files.

ML S4 Trailer Analysis

A LOOOOOOT of spoilers ahead. If you don’t want to be spoiled, don’t look under the cut. 😛

This is the trailer I’m talking about in this post:

If you didn’t see my post from yesterday, it’s also the trailer I reblogged and screamed about the music from it. (But seriously, though; it sounds like an orchestration of the ML theme song, and I’m living for it. I keep playing the trailer just so I can hear the song 😂)

There are a lot of sections from it that are either a) from episodes we’ve seen (Truth, Lies, and Furious Fu - though I have yet to watch Furious Fu, as I’m attempting to watch the season in order 😅) or b) we’ve already seen the clips in other trailers/teasers. 

However, there are a couple parts that I noticed and didn’t see anyone else talking about yet - SO obviously I had to take it upon myself to do so. Because this is totally what the internet needs.

FIRST UP:

Rena Rouge is coming back!

Based on the facial shape, I’m assuming this is still Alya using the miraculous. The hair looks a lot like her, as well. That speaks a lot to the fact that it’s probably Alya still, as we’ve seen people use the same miraculous and get different hair styles. (Viperion and Aspik, for example, or Queen Bee and the new Bee miraculous holder - who we’re all sure is the new character, Zoe.)

The fact that Marinette would pull Alya is significant, however. I have 2 theories:

1) Something serious has happened - serious enough that Marinette would risk her best friend’s safety when Hawkmoth knows her identity.

2) Someone else is using the fox miraculous and making it appear that the old hero that used to use it - Rena Rouge - is the one controlling it as a distraction.

Either way, the episode that she makes her appearance is probably going to be an intense one.

New bee hero!

We all have assumed already that it’s the new character, Zoe.

We can see earlier in the video that, when she appears, she’s in the art room at school. If you go back to the trailer where we first saw the new bee hero transforming, we could see her shoes in it. A lot of people guessed that she was an artsy person because of how they looked, and this confirms that.

But going back to the first image, I find it interesting.

The pink puff of smoke behind Zoe reminds me very much of Princess Fragrance. That means it could be from episode 3, Gang of Secrets (which comes out this coming Saturday!).

However.

It appears that this is the episode with Princess Banana.

My guess is that I’m just overthinking things and that’s just the same special effect used for Princess Banana. 😆

Gang of Secrets looks really interesting for multiple reasons:

We’re bringing back some old villains

They’re going to be around all at the same time (that’s like 5 episodes smashed into 1)

THIS:

OKAY OKAY OKAY this excites me.

In the first image, we can see Lady Wifi is being spoken to by Hawkmoth, because she has the butterfly shaped thing in front of her face. But she’s bent over, holding her head - which tends to be the position characters take when they’re fighting against Hawkmoth’s hold. There have only been 2 other times this has occurred:

And Truth

Both times, characters were fighting against Hawkmoth’s hold because they did not want to hurt Marinette.

If you’ve seen some of the recent trailers, we see Marinette grab Alya’s hand at the end of one of them, the screen go black, and Marinette says, “I am Ladybug.” 

It is entirely possible that Alya might know Marinette’s identity as Ladybug - and that she might be fighting for her.

However, even if Alya doesn’t know her identity, we see a blast of power go out from her. It’s purple, which I first assumed was her own power as Lady Wifi. However, we don’t see her phone - which means the purple might apply to Shadowmoth’s power.

Alya may have broken herself from his control. 😱

We definitely see Shadowmoth is affected by whatever just happened, so something at least has likely happened to their connection.

GUYS THERE’S A NEW TRANSFORMATION.

AND I KNOW WHO IT IS.

Okay, that’s cool as heck.

But first off: very pink. Specifically, light pink.

Now, I am not expert on which miraculous is which if we haven’t seen it in action yet - but can I just say that this just strikes me as the pig miraculous for some reason? (If anyone knows which one this is specifically, please tell me! :) )

What’s this? White leggings?

And a pink skirt?

Now who do we know that wears those?

Rose.

There have been a lot of theories that she’ll get the pig miraculous, and this totally fits. But this is confirmation that she’ll be getting it in season 4.

This is the only hint we have at her hero suit. I can’t tell if it’s just her skirt transforming into one of those suits again, or if she’ll actually get a skirt as part of her suit. That would so cute. Also, totally a Rose thing.

Finally...

This thing.

There are two possibilities concerning it.

Either it’s a thing for Zoe to use (come one, it’s totally bee-themed) or it’s a miraculous. I’m not entirely sure how it would a miraculous, as it doesn’t look that much like a piece of jewelry, and I can’t think of any of the kwamis that we’ve seen matching up with it. However, it would explain why Zoe’s outfit looks extremely different from Queen Bee’s. I saw a post recently that pointed out how pointed all her edges were, whereas Queen Bee’s had more smooth curves in hers. A wasp miraculous would make sense.

However, again, it doesn’t look exactly like a miraculous. It looks a lot more like a charm of sorts, to be honest. So, most likely, it’s a personal item that someone lost, or a weapon that they’re going to use. (Perhaps a Queen Banana episode thing?)

If anyone has any theories as to what this item is, I’d love to hear them! I’m still pretty confused as to what it is exactly, but it seems to be important, seeing as Ladybug stored it in her yoyo. Then again, she stored an order for constipation medicine in there, so who’s to say?

A lot of interesting content was definitely hidden in this trailer! I’m mostly leaving the shot of them flying into the pink void alone, as it was from a different trailer, and I have no clue what that is. (Though... it reminds me a little of both Feast and Princess Fragrance. 🤔 Any theories on that one, anyone?)
