RWBY and Neurodiversity
Ive been thinking about this for a while but resisted posting until Volume 9 ended. Mainly to see how Ruby’s ascension would resolve, because I knew it would impact how I felt about this.
Also this is long. Like seriously long. Once I started it got out of hand. But I feel it is all Important.
I will start by saying that I am autistic, and I have friends and family who are both autistic and or neurodiverse. I also understand that a lot of this maybe subtext or head cannon, and at times deeply personal. I also get that this will never be made cannon or had ever even be intended by CRWBY. But, I cannot escape some of the connections I have made or how I relate to some characters.
Right with that out of the way
RUBY IS AUTISTIC, or at least somewhere on the spectrum.
From the first volume I could see some of the traits coming through. From the use of headphones and music separating her from the world around her. Her over exuberance when is excited or interested in something. Right up to her passion/special interest in weapons and being a huntresses. This is not to lessen the other characters interests or passions, but Ruby’s is very much all consuming. She speaks about how she went over board on Crescent Rose’s design, and about how much she likes others designs. Including Jaune’s classic Crocea Mors. I cannot help but see my own love of history. That took me to university and beyond. Like Ruby with any weapon, I love any history.
Then there is her abilities in the classroom. Ruby is clearly a natural talent, but she is never shown to be a savant. She has issues keeping her attention in class and with the work load. Although I do understand that this can be put down to being jumped ahead and that Port n Oobleck’s class seem to have a similar effect on others. Much like me and some of my friends we had classes we loved but struggled to show it though other academic difficulties.
The early volumes also cover her struggles to connect with people. Such as wanting to be with Yang, instead of meeting new people. Or with Weiss and hers rocky relationship, early on. Countered with the open acceptance by Jaune, who sees a fellow outsider. Although for different reasons. Her own comment of wanting “normal knees” is something I think everyone one with autism can relate too. The wish to be just like everyone else and not stand out. That, at times, can be the greatest wish living in a world you struggle with.
Then there’s the events post Beacon. They show a defining personality trait so common in autism. Her unshakeable moral centre. It can be hard to describe but it is well documented the autistic people have a very strong sense of justice and morals. Although obliviously not all the same morals. We are all have a different in outlook, just like everybody else. Ruby’s is based around helping people and making the world a better place.
This is shown most strongly in her mission to walk to Haven. Even if most would say she is too young and it is too dangerous, for 4 unqualified huntsmen/huntress. They went and got hurt and burnt out along the way. Yes others went with her but would they have gone without her taking the lead. It shows a lack of self awareness that can be common as autistic people. To the point that they burn themselves out pushing to achieve things, without taking time for themselves.
The other massive tell is her reaction to Ironwood. She has no dislike for him and shares his goal. But, his actions and plans go against her moral code. So again she sticks to her morals and works to stop him, while rescuing Atlas, at the same time. Yes others agreed that he was in the wrong, but would the likes of Winter changed their allegiance, without someone like Ruby offering an alternative.
Then we get to the biggest thing for me and the reason I felt I had to put my feelings down. Volume 9. While Ruby’s mental state and issues during this volume are very much based in trauma, lose and depression. That a lot of people can relate too, not just the autistic community. I cannot help but think about what she says before she drinks the tea. “I don’t want to be me anymore.” I have never related to a character more. Or be triggered more, for that matter. When I spoke to some of my autistic friends about it, it was something all of us had felt at one moment or another, to varying degrees. See we all know we cannot separate autism from the rest of our person. Most of us don’t even know what is an autistic trait and what is just us. But, I need to make this clear, none of us want a cure or to be changed. More the reaction was things I have felt at times when at your lowest a small voice screams that would it be easier if you weren’t you.
Then there is Ruby’s ascension. After episode 9 when it was put to her she could change to be someone else, and people where discussing how she might change, if you see Ruby though the lens I’ve described it can be harmful.
Now I don’t want it to sound like I’m accusing CRWBY of not thinking about this. Thousands of people watch RWBY and can be effected by it in ways they would not think, not having that person’s experience. They are telling a story, and that story includes these real moments.
Back to the point. Telling someone with autism or that person thinking they have to change to achieve or be accepted is a horrible experience. And it is something almost all autistic people experience. It is the reason we learn to mask and hide who we are. The world tells you that it is what’s expected of you. So when in episode 10 Ruby chooses herself and is then reminded that her friends accept her for being herself. It is powerful. Again I understand that this can relate to a lot of things; imposter syndrome, being gay or race issues. But, as someone who is autistic this is how I saw it. I personally have only had 2 people truly accept me like this.
PENNY is the only other character I see as on the spectrum. Obviously a lot of her character traits are put down to her being a robot. But as Ruby says to her does that make her any less a real person. In fact the relationship between Penny and Ruby is a massive indicator for me of them being on the spectrum. When they first team Ruby asks if she was just like Penny to Weiss. It is not uncommon for autistic people to spot each other quickly, whether they realise it or not. Then when they meet up at the tournament, both feel no need to hide who they are. Ruby is openly dorky in asking Penny about Ciel’s knowledge and Penny doesn’t hide her excitement to see her friend.
This is repeated multiple times when Penny returns in Atlas. Each time they see each other they share and communicate in away that they don’t with others. Such as hugging Ruby first and asking do all hugs feel like this, before hugging others. She knows that Ruby will be honest and non-judge mental. In fact we can see how non autistic people react when Penny is her over excited, unmasked, self in front of them. Winter stopping Penny bouncing is a typical action from neurotypicals. Even if it comes from a place of care and concern, with no wish to harm, as I believe Winters was. But it is something neither Penny or Ruby would do to the other.
Then there is Penny’s morals. She is clearly guided to help her friends, people and world. At great detriment to herself. She becomes the hero of Mantel, protecting those who can not protect themselves, and when others will not. Much like Ruby she will risk it all for her sense of justice.
One of the most impactful parts of Penny’s story is that of virus. I didn’t even think of this, my friend pointed it out when I spoke to her about it. But her Penny is controlled by the virus, she felt it worked as a metaphor for Applied Behaviour Analysis or ABA. Which if you haven’t heard of it, is a horrible thing to experience as someone with autism. Much like conversion therapy for the LGBTQ+ community this works by trying to train you out of being autistic and make you more accepting for others. Penny is pushed towards things she doesn’t want to do and most horribly to do harm. She becomes a tool to the villains, which can also mirror how some savant autistics are treated. There skills used for a “greater good” instead of them being in control of their own destiny.
Now I want to move on to discuss Ships. These are all Ruby related and while I’m not saying these should be cannon or that they are over other ships, cannon or otherwise, but I feel they work at different points in Ruby’s story when viewed as discussed above.
LADYBUG is the first ship I gravitated towards in the show. For me Blake was the first character to simply accept Ruby as who she was. This does stem from Blake’s own wish to be accepted for who is she and not what she is, but it is still important to outwardly show it to others as well. I understand that a lot of people find this to be a boring ship, I think that’s because it lacks drama, but for me the idea of someone new accepting you without question or concern is powerful. That is why I like the ship. It is comforting and has little interpersonal drama between the two. More mutually assured care and concern. In fact that is why they talk so little in the show. They understand and trust each other. One of the many reasons people have Blake as a deputy team leader, during and after the events of Volume 9, is this mutual trust.
NUTS AND DOLTS maybe the most loved ship these days. Outside of Bumblebee, that is. As I have already gone into Penny and Ruby’s relationship as being very neurodiverse. They are themselves with each other, and communicate more easily with the other. Although I would add this is the only one I see as asexual, but I think both characters can be seen as both asexual and not. Just when they are together, they are asexual. Plus after events in Volumes 8 & 9 I think we can call it as close to cannon as possible.
WHITEROSE i find the most interesting. At the start of the series I never got it. Weiss was mean and uncaring to Ruby. Why would Ruby ever being interested romantically in Weiss. But then as the show progress I understood it. Weiss is just as bigger dork as Ruby but due to reasons outside of autism, she had to mask this. Seeing Ruby act as she wishes and not be punished for it, as she might have been, lets her drop the mask. Two big things outside of the main show solidified this for me. The first is Ice Queendom. We see inside Weiss’ mind and how she has locked away her childish side for protection. Going as far as to do the same thing to Ruby. The second is that I was recently introduced to The Owl House. Luz and Amity’s relationship has a lot of similarities to Weiss and Ruby. Both start with a cold and unforgiving person who is thawed by the loveable dolt. Bringing out there more natural playful side, originally hidden away to protect themselves. Now after the loss of Penny and Weiss being so accepting of Ruby in the ever after. She is the first to call her name when she returns and doesn’t ask any questions, after all. I can see it becoming cannon. If there is time.
Thank you for reading this I know it is long but I felt I never saw much discussion about RWBY from this perspective.

A Guide on Ashes of Love (for TTEOTM fans)
Tumblr media
For TTEOTM fans debating whether to watch Ashes of Love (or struggling with how long it is), I highly recommend that you CHECK IT OUT and STICK WITH IT!
Why? A lot of people think that it's Luo Yunxi at his best looks-wise. It's the role that made him a household name and really defined the ethereal white-robed male god in Chinese pop culture. Runyu has much more screentime than is typical for a second male lead. And while it has a lot of filler, it also has some of the best scenes, lines, music, cinematography, and fight choreography among xianxias.
Now, there are problems with the drama... especially in retrospect, the two biggest are: (1) It's infamous for stretching 36 episodes into 63 because mo' episodes, mo' money. On the bright side, this gave the drama a bigger budget to play with, hence grander sets, better CGI, nicer costumes. (2) The naive female lead and love trumps all plot now feel dated and perhaps even problematic. However, Yang Zi is a compelling actress and there's enough politics to keep mature viewers around.
So here's a guide to the 63 episodes, for those who want the "lay of the land". You can decide for yourself what to watch or skip. Naturally it's hard to avoid spoilers, but I've kept them mild.
Episodes 1-5: Jinmi travels to the heavenly realm (Bloat Score: 3/5)
Tumblr media
This is mainly Jinmi meeting different characters and having fun in the heavenly realm. You can speed watch as it's light on plot. Runyu only appears for 1-2 scenes per episode, but his fight scenes are beautiful (EP1-35m, EP3-27m, EP5-37m)!
Tumblr media
Episodes 6-8: The four leads travel to the Demon Realm (Bloat Score: 2/5)
This part is pretty action-packed. Jinmi surprises everyone with her powers. Blossoming romance between the leads. Runyu has a more consistent presence. Would watch at normal speed.
Tumblr media
Episodes 9-17: The two brothers compete for Jinmi while uncovering her true identity (Bloat Score: 1/5)
Tumblr media
The plot really picks up here as you start to get hooked on solving the mystery of Jinmi's identity and affairs of the past generation. I particularly liked the mini climaxes in Ep 12 and 15.
Tumblr media
Episodes 18-34: Jinmi & Xufeng undergoes human trial + Runyu's backstory (Bloat Score: 4/5)
Tumblr media
This is the plot within the plot that was not in the source novel and has no reason to exist other than to increase runtime and give viewers more romance between the leads. If you didn't like the dream arc in TTEOTM, this will be even worse. Lucky for us they've also fleshed out Runyu's backstory and perspective in Ep 29-32, where viewers started rooting for Runyu instead.
Tumblr media
Episode 35-45: Jinmi decides who to marry as the brothers head to epic showdown (Bloat Score: 2/5)
The drama takes a more serious tone here, with more angst, tragedy, and power play. Runyu sheds his innocence and fights for his own corner. You also get to see him confess his love to Jinmi in one of my favorite scenes in Ep 37.
Tumblr media
Episode 46-59: The aftermath aka a big stew of tears, blood-spitting, regret, hurt (Bloat Score: 4/5)
Frankly I found this part painful to watch and repetitive. I can't recall what happens other than it builds up to another epic fight between the brothers Helen of Troy style. Runyu is at his darkest and there are a few TTJ-like obsessive love scenes between him and Jinmi (EP50-19m, EP56-28m, EP57-15m, EP58-25m)
Tumblr media
Episodes 60-63 The Ending (Bloat Score: 2/5)
Tumblr media
A pretty satisfying ending. The big battle itself takes place in Ep 61, so there are 2 full episodes to resolve things between the characters and give them a proper ending. Runyu's final scene is done very well and always gives me the goosebumps (EP63-39m)
Tumblr media
Also, there are lots of scenes of the third couple (demon princess and her bodyguard) spliced throughout. If it doesn't do anything for you, just skip - it has no impact to the main plot.
Have fun watching!

from this article by China Daily about Xiao Zhan’s drama WDB. 🤍
Tumblr media
"The integrity, kindness and sense of justice that define Xiao Chunsheng harmonize seamlessly with Xiao Zhan's simplicity and sincerity. Moreover, in terms of appearance, Xiao Zhan's stature and posture perfectly suit the role,"
TV series taps into nostalgia of bygone era and the sense of optimism that captivated China's youth in 30 years.
As winter descends, the frozen Shichahai ice rink becomes a stage for young individuals gliding carefree across its surface. The profound contrast between the frigid ice and the passionate fervor of the young skaters creates a captivating tableau.
The youthfulness of this cohort finds its genesis in Shichahai, where their emotions and destinies will become intricately woven together. Over the next three decades, their fates will undergo a continuous metamorphosis, mirroring the relentless changing of the times.
This is the narrative that unfolds in the domestically produced drama The Youth Memories, a 38-episode television series that was broadcast on both China Central Television and Tencent Video this year.
Directed by Fu Ning and starring Xiao Zhan, Li Qin, Liu Ruilin, Cao Feiran, Zhao Xin and Cui Hang, the drama is set in Beijing in the 1970s and tells the story of a group of young people who grow up, pursue their dreams, and struggle during the early period of reform and opening-up.
This series has captivated attention since its casting and production to its on-air debut. The conscientious craftsmanship of the production team, evident in details like costumes and props, coupled with the dedicated performances of the group of young actors, has resulted in the show achieving both impressive viewership ratings and positive acclaim.
Yang Chenghu, a professor from Beijing Normal University, comments that the series not only provides a snapshot of a bygone era, but also preserves a love story etched deep within the memories of an older generation.
Through its vibrant portrayal of ambitious and dynamic young characters, it gives play to the anthem of youth, conveying profound reflections on the spirit of the times and the essence of life, Yang says.
Zhou Xiaoxiao, chief editor of the drama, says her goal is for the show to resonate with the memories of older generations, while simultaneously helping the younger generation comprehend an era where warmth and challenges coexisted.
"This isn't a documentary series, so it's impractical to comprehensively delve into every historical nuance. Nevertheless, the destinies and fluctuations of the characters undoubtedly stand as the era's most compelling testimony," she says.
"The Youth Memories serves as a poignant bridge in this regard. The personal growth that Xiao Chunsheng and his cohort of young individuals undergo throughout their journey resonates with the evolving times, encapsulating a condensed path of life."
Director Fu Ning has crafted numerous TV series that unfold in the heart of Beijing. Raised in the Beijing hutong, Fu maintained a profound connection to the core narrative and the atmospheric backdrop of the depicted era in this drama.
With a stringent approach, he ensured authenticity in shaping the essence of the story and the period ambiance, striving to present a genuine portrayal of 1970s Beijing through his lens.
Yang Xiaopei, general producer of the TV series, has served as the executive producer for several renowned dramas including Legend of Fuyao, Ancient Love Poetry and Who Rules The World. The Youth Memories marks her debut in the realm of realistic historical dramas.
According to Yang Xiaopei, this drama delves into discussions on themes such as love, friendship, dreams and faith through a youthful lens, with its creative exploration that touches upon every facet of characters' lives.
"I think the drama has the capacity to resonate with audiences across different age groups," Yang Xiaopei says.
As per Yang Xiaopei's explanation, the crew meticulously studied the daily habits of individuals living in Beijing during that period to capture authentic details in props, including practices like winter cabbage storage, burning coal balls, and the presence of street vendors selling sugarcoated hawthorn.
In terms of costume design, items like batwing sleeves, bell-bottom pants, scarves and headbands authentically recreate the ambiance of that era.
To recreate the Shichahai ice rink of the 1970s, the team crafted detailed blueprints, and ultimately enclosed an area exceeding 10,000 square meters.
Yang Xiaopei highlights the involvement of over 100 members from skating clubs who served as extras. As the machines operated, they glided naturally, infusing the entire scene with a profound sense of authenticity.
This was not just a leisurely pursuit or hobby but a genuine reflection of the lifestyle of Beijing residents during that era, she says.
Young actors' ambitions
The series unfolds over a span of 30 years, requiring each key actor to navigate three decades of character development. The main cast delivers a compelling performance that leaves the audience thoroughly satisfied.
During casting, Yang Xiaopei emphasized her willingness to provide opportunities for young actors, but she steadfastly avoided relying solely on popularity. She placed greater importance on the suitability of the role and the actor's genuine passion for the character.
Xiao Chunsheng's character is played by actor Xiao Zhan. Yang believes that Xiao Zhan shares commonalities with the role in both image and character.
"They both exude optimism, sincerity, uprightness and the courage to confront challenges. When combined with Xiao Zhan's profound understanding and portrayal of the character, he can be deemed the ideal choice to bring Xiao Chunsheng to life," Yang Xiaopei says.
"The integrity, kindness and sense of justice that define Xiao Chunsheng harmonize seamlessly with Xiao Zhan's simplicity and sincerity. Moreover, in terms of appearance, Xiao Zhan's stature and posture perfectly suit the role," Yang Xiaopei comments, adding that Xiao Zhan even sought out a teacher to learn the Beijing dialect.
Zhou acknowledges the outstanding performances delivered by the entire main cast. "Li Qin's portrayal of Tong Xiaomei also stands out. She is an exceptionally thoughtful actor, meticulously considering whether each plot point aligns with Tong's character, and whether it is within her capabilities to portray them." Zhou says.
"Of course, this extends to Liu Ruilin, Cao Feiran and the other young actors who, to my pleasant surprise, shone brightly. Everyone surpassed expectations, delivering performances that were truly exceptional."
Cao, 28, portrays the character of He Hongling, who shares numerous emotional scenes with Xiao Chunsheng in the drama.
Reflecting on the filming experience, Cao mentions that Xiao Zhan, with his extensive acting background, often provided valuable assistance on set. "If I did something well, he would point it out, enhancing my confidence in the process of shaping the character," she notes.
As both Cao and Xiao Zhan fully embraced their respective roles, spontaneous dialogue between them became a common occurrence on set.
Cao perceives He as a radiant, goal-driven individual with ambitions. However, influenced by her family background and the era's milieu, He is also a complex, self-interested individual living in the present, Cao adds.
In preparation for her role, Cao learned the violin and how to ice skate before joining the production. Additionally, she sought insights into the emotional experiences of individuals from that era by consulting her parents. "My parents mentioned that emotions during that time were relatively straightforward and pure."
Cui Hang, 34, delivers a compelling performance as Chen Hongjun, the close companion of Xiao Chunsheng. Successfully overcoming the challenges of the college entrance exams, Chen gains admission to university, and eventually becomes ensnared in the tumultuous currents of power, while ultimately landing in prison.
Before delving into this role, Cui took the time to thoroughly understand the character, charting the logical progression of changes in Chen's journey.
Throughout the series, Chen's glasses change three times, with each pair symbolizing a significant shift in identity, status and mindset.
From glasses mended with tape, to the pair gifted by Ye Fang so he could focus on preparing for the college entrance exams, to the gold-rimmed glasses worn after ascending in rank. Cui explains that the prop was chosen to signify changes in his character's social standing and mindset.
In the final office scene, Cui devised a meaningful gesture. He meticulously straightens the national emblem on his cap, wipes it clean, and then places the hat on the table, simultaneously removing his glasses.
"This is a farewell to his mistakes of the past," Cui explains.
Spanning 30 years, Chen's narrative presented a unique challenge for Cui, marking his first portrayal of a character with such a broad age range. Despite the inherent challenges, Cui found the experience immensely gratifying.
"The set design instantly transported us to an era half a century ago as soon as we arrived. The props, hats, scarves — everything belonged to that specific period. As actors, it was effortless to immerse ourselves in our roles," Cui says.
In the series, the character of Ye, Chen's wife in the drama, is brought to life by Beijing native Zhao Xin, who was profoundly captivated by Ye's personality when delving into the character's background.
"I find this girl incredibly intriguing. In that era, how could there be such an intelligent and clearheaded young lady? She is remarkably perceptive and forthright," Zhao says.
Ye earned the endearing nickname "prophet" from the audience, due to the character's accurate prediction of the reinstatement of the college entrance exam. Zhao believes that Ye's popularity is attributed to the fact that contemporary young women exhibit a strong sense of independence, and they can connect with Ye on a personal level.
"I've learned valuable lessons from the character. She possesses a profound pursuit of ideals and approaches situations with a highly rational mindset," she says.

I thought about your question...how could people hate the Xiao Long Rose Sisters? I think its not what Ruby and Yang are doing...its what they're not doing. They're not in conflict with each other. Sasuke and Itachi from Naruto Ben and Gwen from Ben 10 Examples of not getting along. Then there are rivalries Luffy and Ace from One Piece Then there are cases where its nothing but one sibling protecting the other and that's it. But Ruby and Yang treat each other as equals, are supportive of each other, and care for each other. They also make up after fights. So, this positive sibling energy and relationship? I don't think people are used to it. Or? I don't think people like that positive energy. I've seen too many fanfics where people are opposed to that. And people like to have this belief that siblings are supposed to hate each other, a stereotype perpetuated by media. RWBY doesn't do that stereotype.
Not to mention, when has there been a positive half-sibling relationship in media? Other than say, RWBY? Normally, those cases are conflicts as well! What are your thoughts on this?
i'll admit, while i meant it as a rhetorical question, you raise good points. a lot of people see characters with happy relationships, and/or a positive outlook, and get jealous cause they don't have that in their lives. and that's not judgement because i have and am there myself with several characters + character dynamics. combine that like you said, with the stereotypes esp around half siblings, and humans being on the more reluctant side when it comes to change/something new and yeah. there's also the thing of when a character or relationship is set up to be mainly one thing, that's what people generally expect, so when it isn't that one thing, it's a surprise and it feels like a betrayal. tbh i supposedly have a half sibling myself, and when i learned about it, it does and still feels unreal partially because half siblings are like, that thing in soap operas and dramas exclusively around which there is a lot of AngstTM and beef between the siblings in question. In a similar vein, i feel like i'm really rolling in the metaphorical gold a bunch with rwby because i love the variety of platonic and familial relationships in the show, esp because of the "unconvential" relationships. like team rwby, team jnpr, and many teams in general are canonically platonically the world to each other, but they clearly don't and feel no need to clearly label and define their relationship to each other. and qrow, taiyang, ruby and yang!!!!! I love love so much that qrow and taiyang raised ruby and yang together, without the need of something like "qrow was in love with summer/tai" "raven made qrow promise to look after yang" etc, or the need to have qrow start being called dad in canon. i could also get into how much i love yang's relationship with summer & raven, the fact that she calls them *both* their mom, because *she* gets to define her relationship to them, no one else, and in general yang's complicated relationship with raven, but that's a whole another post. there's also the schneeblings obv, which is more on topic, but there's so much to say about them and unfortunately i need to be getting to sleep soon, homophobically enough and my bad, this turned into just me gushing about platonic and familial relationships, but alas, i am but a stereotypical aroace that way

Trust Love is about Volume 9
So, obviously Trust Love is the Volume Seven Opening, but when we compare the themes of Vol7 with Trust Love, it doesn't match up, the song's too upbeat even as a lot of bad stuff starts coming to a head.
There was a fair amount of deceit and trickery, like what Ruby did, Yang and Blake working with the Happy Huntresses, Jacques working with Watts - No one's really genuinely trusting each other, or they are and getting played because of it.
However in Volume 9, we see Ruby struggling to trust herself, love herself, even as WBY make their care and love known throughout the group (Even if Weiss omitted the fact Jaune killed Penny, which will be an issue)
But We really need to read the Lyrics and compare it to what we've seen so far in Vol9 to understand.
Keep dreaming 'bout a better world/Maybe you'll wake up in a world of charm - Perhaps, dream of a better, more simplistic world, where things are easily definable, someplace that's meant to be quaint and charming - Something out of a storybook perhaps?
You're holdin' out for some romantic life - Yang and Blake now very openly flirting is them no longer holding out for it, but rather Reaching out for it, because it's right there. With her.
Oh, but what's here can set you free, you don't have to dream/All your problems would just disappear - Here in the Ever After you can be free of your Burden, like what the Blacksmith tells Ruby, or not carrying the troubles Ruby Rose has, Yet also It could literally be that Ruby is there, and can set them all Free/ She can free herself of her worry and doubt when she remembers/realize What and Who She is and wants to be.
if you just believe Then all you see is all you need - All Ruby needs to do is believe in her Friends and Family, who have been with her and Trust her, and love her. Then the belief She holds for them as well as herself is all she'll need to get them to the tree. She obviously can affect the world - when she cries it rains- It's sort of like Orc 40k logic in that way? I think?
Right now your hopes are shattered (Shattered)/And you're sure all hope is gone - Ruby doesn't have enough hope to fill a jar.
Trust love, the truth is there, but sometimes in disguise/But the lies can't hide what's true when love's alive - Her Love for Penny drew her to her sword both at Jinxy's cart, and in the Blacksmith's place.
Write yourself into a fairytale - Jaune is the Rusted Knight. He's potentially the same knight that Alyx met. Literally written into a fairytale.
And still, you're counting on a second sight To somehow wrest you from the way of harm - Using something of Hindsight from having read the story as children to try and navigate the Ever After, even if it's not all they know it to be.
When what you need to do is see, all you have to be Is here in reality, leave your fantasy - This, I feel, Also calls out Jaune most if not specifically. His Fantasy was to be a Hero! To save people. He's in a fantasy as he is now, not as a killer in reality. But sometimes being a hero isn't all it sounds like it should be. It's hard. Once Jaune realizes that he's a hero despite what he had to do, he'll open his eyes and leave that Fantastical Save-Everyone Get-the-Girl Hero behind. Sometimes being a hero is getting home. Ruby and Yang know what it's like when a Hero doesn't come home. It's why they lost Summer.
There's not a miracle that's gonna show you how The secret to your life is here and now Look inside, end your search and be alive It's time to rise, to realize, to open up your eyes
Both Inside and Trust love are Directly Referencing Each other! Trust Love is the Answer to Inside's question!
When you Open your eyes, Trust what you see, and end that search, you'll find the you inside of you. What you are.
And you, Ruby Rose? You aren't a normal girl with normal knees. You are a Huntress. You are a Leader. You are a Silver Eyed Warrior.
You are Ruby Rose, with all the complexities, upsides, and downfalls that come with it.
There will come the day you've waited for, When you've said goodbye to all the childish things you loved. After everything that's fallen, you and your family still need to Let yourselves Live For Every Life, and only then will you get your Triumph, and Rise, when you Trust Love, look Inside.
Only then will you realize, by burning away the darkness with your love, that you, a singular, young girl, with the weight of the world on your shoulders can win against such an insurmountable enemy.
Because when your soul is honest? When you accept your soul is smaller than Salems?
That is where your victory lies. That is when you win.

I'm very curious about the conflation of anger with violence in rwby. Specifically with Yang since it is (literally, even) such a defining part of her. Her eyes turn from lilac to Raven's red ones when's angered, suggesting its her similarity to her blue-eyed father that keeps her "balanced". I guess I'm surprised her red eyes never come up? Whether it's in battle or normal conversation, they're supposed to invoke fear and that's the end of their utility.
While I get that Yang’s eyes began as just a Rule of Cool style choice to cue the audience in to when she was going Remnant Super Saiyan, I’m surprised that nothing came of the change later considering the importance of Ruby’s eyes. I mean, we literally have a MAJOR plot-reveal that boils down to “Some people possesses special powers whose existence is directly linked to their eye color” and not only did Ruby ignore that for about three Volumes (never over it), but she ignored it as a character with direct access to someone in a potentially similar situation. It’s amazing to me that there was never a conversation where Ruby went, “Wow. Uncle Qrow says I’ve got a unique ability because of my silver eyes. Yang, you (kinda?) have a unique ability when your eyes change to your mom’s color. Isn’t it wild that both of us carry this connection to our mothers? What do we think about these inherited abilities tied to eye color of all things?” Imagine if Ruby actually got to connect with Yang over this, sparking Yang's desire to seek out Raven, helping her work through her depression, and setting Ruby on a journey to discover more about SEWs out in the wilds of Remnant. Instead of, "Recovery arcs are boring and we're seeking revenge on the villain who killed our friend except oh wait, never mind, we're just hanging in a safe house now because there's cool war stuff going on. What were our motivations again?"
Not only does the show not thematically engage with what it’s put out - such as Yang’s anger and double-edged strength being directly connected back to her bandit, betraying, cowardly mother - but it doesn’t even acknowledge this stuff on the surface level either. Qrow despises his passive semblance but never talks to Ironwood about his own semblance that, apparently, causes similar, debilitating problems off screen. Ruby is traveling with another SEW and is partnered with, as far as we know, the only other fighter with a genetically inherited ability (Weiss), but she only has a single, vague conversation before “mastering” her power. Oscar’s entire arc is supposedly about holding onto his identity in the face of the merge, but he’s never allowed to ask what the merge is, or what happened to the hosts that came before him, or anything, really, right down to, “Oh wow, we have a nuke inside our cane? Cool! No reason I would have asked about our weapon in the months we've been using it.”
The characters don't talk. Not about anything important. And yeah, that includes Yang’s dropped arc regarding her anger and penchant for violence. I hate that the last season took us backwards in the most obvious way possible - Yang charges an enemy without thinking in an effort to save a loved one, just like what happened with Adam, and this time she dies, the exact thing Tai feared would happen if she didn’t take a more strategic approach and worked to keep her emotions from getting the better of her - but I’ll be shocked if the writers realize that, let alone incorporate that revelation/a response to the backslide in Volume 9.

Continuation choo choo!
Mr. Yang is an enigma to you, but as far as you know he has the mind of a man who have experienced many loss and grief. He is a man with so much duty in his hands back in his universe, the Herrscher of Reason, Sovereign of Anti-Entropy, ever since he was a child he already had his life overriden by duty. But the express doesn't see his duty, they see Mr. Yang. He's kind and reliable, his wisdom may (or may not) exceed anyone in the express, he always find you coming to him, asking questions and he'd gladly go on about topics after topics. And if he stayed back, he'd receive messages of how you and the others are doing, and that brought a smile to his face.
To walk in the path of The Trailblaze is a lonely one - you come and you go - you make connections before you make another ones, with the possibility that you won't meet your past companions. Himeko is the heart of the Express, but even she can feel lonely. To be part of The Nameless one cannot form a bond too thick else you'd experience the pain of severing it, but she loves everyone nonetheless, she shares her knowledge with you and maybe learn a thing or two about the express' mechanisms, or you're daring enough to try her coffee and not sleep for a few days. But you'd always remember the day she opened her arms and take you in as part of thr express was the best chapter beginning of your life. You'd stay by her side, like a child accompanying their mother as she sets her eyes on the stars, you'd stay in the Express until it reached its final stop. The universe is big so why stop at one place?
You? Maybe you're someone that deeply loves the universe, or a curious scholar, someone with past regrets, a criminal, or you just walk the path of The Trailblaze because you have nowhere to go. For them that doesn't matter, you've done many things for the express. Wether it's helping Pom-Pom cleaning the cars or help with the Trailblaze missions, or be a friend. Caelus/Stelle loves how you'd go your way to have fun in any world they landed, maybe you both have caused some problems and dive into dumpsters to find interesting stuffs. Dan Heng could ramble about trivias from the Data Bank at any given moment if you want him to, he will fight and protect you during missions and you'd do the same for him. Taking a lot of pictures is a must go with March, you would have your poses ready the moment she unleashes her camera. She doesn't really have someone to chat to when she's bored, and you'd go to her room about how you made a weapon out of a Voidranger's remains or watch movies and maybe you guys scrapbook sometimes.
Trailblazer needs someone to remind them, they aren't alone. They have people to latch onto, a support to ground themselves as a host of a Stellaron. Dan Heng needs someone to remind him, he is loved and there is hope. He is Dan Heng, a person who's not weighted down by his past predecessors. March 7th needs someone to remind her, the unknown isn't as scary and people will be there for her if the void almost drown her. She needs something ahead of her, to see, to feel, to know that she exist, so everything won't be as scary. You need to remind yourself, the world is big, your past doesn't define you and you have people to move forward with, the kindness you offered wouldn't be left to waste and you don't have to face the unpredictability of what's to come alone. Everyday is a new adventure.
The Astral Express. The Nameless. You are the children of Akivili, traveling the universe and sing their name like the gears of the express resonating in the cosmos.
(I'm so normal about them [cries])

vision criteria
a lot of fans hate the concept of criteria for visions but i do believe there is one, just.. not as part of the world building? like i dont know if i’d go as far as to say whatever entity or mechanism in charge of granting visions has a criteria of its own, but there seems to be a common narrative between he characters of each respective element.
a doylist criteria, if u will.
so far i've looked into cryo, anemo and pyro (i did make posts back in the day but they're now privated until i can word all of it better)
anemo
acceptance of circumstances out of one's control
people often joke about anemo characters' shared trait being the death of a friend, even though heizou is the only one whose loss of a loved one was involved in gaining his vision.
kazuha had already gained his when his friend defied the musou no hitotachi, faruzan gained hers before she realized she had been trapped for a century and everyone she knew was dead, and tatarasuna people were long gone when wandered gained his. moreover, we don't know when xiao got his, and characters like jean, sucrose and sayu do not feature any death in their lore.
the narrative is present, however, especially through the archon himself who wears the face of the nameless bard in order to honor his memory.
the death of a loved one seems just a very direct way of approaching the theme of acceptance of something that's out of one's control. anemo characters struggle with this throughout their lives, and gain a vision when they're able to overcome it.
the ruin of the kaedehara clan was out of kazuha's control, for instance, and he gained his vision when he decided to focus on the positive aspects of life rather than his misfortunes.
jean had to fulfill the duty of her clan since she was young, depriving herself of experiences that are normal for other children, and she gains her vision when she apprehends the corrupt members of the knights of favonius and proves to herself that these sacrifices are worth it.
sayu gains hers when she decides to turn her small size to her advantage; wanderer (anemo poster child tbh) gains his when he accepts the memories of his "past incarnation" as his own; heizou gains his when he accepts evil is part of human nature and makes it personal; sucrose gains hers when her interest for alchemical experiments starts overshadowing her original goal to recreate a childhood fantasy she shared with friends she lost contact with.
cryo
acceptance of the self
the most distinctive trait of cryo characters is inner duality, theres a part of themselves they struggle with and they only gain their vision when they accept themselves wholly. sometimes this is approached more directly with life or death situations in which the character has to save themselves, and therefore find enough worth as they are.
everyone knows what's up with kaeya's backstory. it's not just telling the truth about who he is that grants him a vision, because it appears later when he's fighting against diluc. he gains it when he blocks an attack, protecting himself and no longer being ashamed (or at least at this crucial moment)
rosaria was taken in by a gang of criminals who massacred her village when she was a baby. she struggles to define the place she had within this group, unsure if she should call them fathers or not. she gains her vision when she tries to escape, and one of them challenges her to a fight to death that she wins
qiqi is a zombie who gains hers when she wishes to stay alive in the midst of dying
shenhe is cursed since childbirth, her duality is more about who she wants to be despite her fate. she gains her vision while fighting an evil spirit/god that her father tried to sacrifice her to
ganyu is half adepti half human, and unlike yanfei she struggles to belong on either side. she gains a vision when she decides to stay in liyue to help the qixing, effectively picking a side although she doesnt realize it
chongyun was born with yang energy which prevents him from performing exorcisms. he gains his vision because he decides he'll still achieve this goal with this condition, not in spite of it
eula gains her vision when she decides to follow her own principles, regardless of what her clan and mondstadt want to impose on her
ayaka is limited by her duty and social class against her fantasies of a regular or adventurous life. gains her vision when she proves to herself she's worthy of her position
layla is a very insecure person, especially regarding her academic skills. theres the whole DID as well. she gains her vision at some point while she argues with a professor, effectively being confident in her ideas.
i havent checked mika's bc sincerely zZz
diona's the only one who doesnt fit in this narrative. she's a very lonely kid who only has her dad as company, but he gives more attention to alcohol than her. she gains her vision when she goes out during a snow storm to look for him, admitting her uncondtional love with that action.
pyro
im not sure how to word this yet.
the common pattern seems to be about carrying a legacy, more directly addressed through family businesses but there's other characters with more abstract ones:
diluc & his father's winery
hu tao & her family's funerary tradition
amber & her grandfather's outrider force
bennet & his dads' wish for success in adventuring
klee & alice's teachings
xianling & liyue's cuisine/her father's restaurant
xinyan & the essence of rock music
yanfei & the integrity of law
yoimiya & her family's fireworks business
dehya & her father's will (although she misunderstands what that is until her story quest)
inheriting something has not much to do with it, it's the way this element forms part of their characterization and how it's involved in gaining a vision. just because a character has a family business it doesnt mean they fit the criteria.
for example:
bennett's was a bit burdened by the lack of success of his dads, he thought he had to achieve something to give meaning to their lives, but gains his vision when he realizes that success is not needed and the experiences in and of itself are what makes an adventurer.
diluc followed the ambitions of his father, and believed them to be their own. he never questioned his choices, as long as they made his father happy. when he's faced with his death, the fact he owned a delusion, and the corruption in the knights his whole sense of self shatters and when he leaves mondstadt, he also leaves his vision (which he called his and his father's shared ambition) behind. then he returns to do exactly what he was doing before (protecting mond), but this time it's under his own terms: no longer under the knights of favonius (the frustrated dream of his father)
it feels as though pyro characters gain their visions when they realize themselves, who they are and what they want regardless of what has been imposed on them. they might follow this legacy like diluc or hu tao, or they might search for their own path like bennett and dehya.
perhaps xinyan is more the poster child, someone who protects who she is despite the constant pushback from society, something that she fights to change.
some accept their legacies as their genuine path and others rebel against it, and then others rebel against it and still accept it in their own terms. how to put it?
perhaps it's the realization of individuality?
the legacy is not important, as it is with the narrative of dead loved ones or duality in the other elements, it feels more like a trial to find the character's individuality.
hydro
i still struggle with the other elements, mainly because i have yet to go through each character profile to analyze them cohesively.
it's hard to find the right common pattern.
they have a high status in their respective fields:
barbara is a church idol in the nation of poetry and ballads with high devotion to their god
candace is the village's appointed guardian
ayato is the clan/commission's leader
mona is a renowned astrologist
nilou is the star of the theater
kokomi is watatsumi's high priestess
childe is a harbinger
xingqiu is the best diciple of guhua
yelan is yelan
some of them are innovators/change tradition:
barbara changed the music scene in mond, from traditional folk music to her idol stuff ig
candace went against the elders in the village so they could start making business with outsiders, since she wants aaru village to flourish beyond the burden of their past
yelan stood up to ningguang in how things were done
yet others are catalysts for preservation:
ayato upholds his clan and remains loyal to the raiden shogun not out of genuine conviction, but for filial piety (to honor his parents and protect his sister)
mona protects the integrity of her art to her own detriment
likewise, nilou doesnt have greater ambitions in regards to her dancing skills
xingqiu revived the arts of the guhua clan
kokomi could fit in both, since she carries the will of orobashi, and rather than following personal ideals in how to rule her people, she wants to follow their collective wishes. but then she's also working hard in erasing the generational trauma/resentment they have against the shogunate.
childe is. childe is a special case. he wanted to become the hero of the stories his father told him, and to this end he's made it his own conviction to protect children's dreams. thats the element of preservation, but i dont know how he gained his vision so i cant say how significant this narrative was in the process.
in a way, characters who have innovated are also conducts for preservation through that innovation (preserving music, preserving the village's future, preserving the lives of those who work in the shadows of the qixing)
perhaps like legacy is a trial for pyro characters, this aspect of preservation/innovation is also a trial for hydro ones, but as to what's the underlying narrative.. i cant tell. yet.
electro
i think some of them share the pattern of being tools for a higher purpose, especially ei, cyno and sara. they're not tools like scaramouche was, because thats something he pretty much was created as and had no control over, but this is rather a deliberate choice they make. they chose this for themselves completely out of their own free will.
theres characters like fischl who directly embody something else, her identity is put aside much like the tool characters do for their conviction.
there's a bit of sacrifice involved in doing this i guess?
that's about it, as far as i can go without analyzing the character profiles further.

I’ve been so stuck on what my kibbe ID was for so long to the point where I basically gave up, but after I saw the first pic of Barbara in your post it was like something just clicked. I had never seen anyone with a body that similar to mine before (although given, her waist is a little more snatched than mine, but that’s most likely a weight thing lmao).
I always crossed off being a yang dominant in my mind bc I’m reasonably fleshy and my bust breaks my line of body, but I never really felt like I fit in with the yin dominants.
Anyways, my point is, thank you so much!!! I have finally seen the light at the end of the tunnel and can be free😭😭
Love to see what you will post in the future 💕💕
Omg 🥺this made me so happy 💛I'm glad my posts are helpful to others💛💛
Honestly SDs are sooo under typed because of their ultra glamorous image. But in reality SD is a far more common type than most people would like to believe.
Mae West was 5'1 and an SD. Beyonce is 5'7 and a pure R. So while height matters when typing, there are always exceptions. I feel like many average height gals (5'4-5'6) resist being typed as SD because they don't feel tall enough. A lot of people have facial features that give them other essences so they don't feel like they belong with other verified SDs. Others don't feel curvy enough. But one thing we've to remember is that in the real world not many women are going to have waspish tiny waists, usually a well defined waist is smaller than the bust & hips but it need not be teeny tiny ifykwim 😤 same goes for bust or hips. You don't have to have Christina Hendricks looking curves to be an SD. Human beings come in all different shapes and sizes and it's important to consider the individual and their features when typing 🦋
Sorry for my ramble 😭it's just that I hate seeing gals online struggle with typing others and themselves because social media has warped their understanding of what a normal body looks like

Hello, I've seen some of your analysis about RWBY and they made me see things that I didn't see before. However, do you think that some of the main characters aren't that developed enough (particularly Yang and the Branwen Twins)? I have been feeling like that ever since it was revealed that Raven Branwen is famous in Mistral. Shouldn't that affect how Yang was treated by some people in Patch or in Signal or in Beacon? And Raven Branwen wore a Grimm Mask which is largely associated with the White Fang, shouldn't they suspect Raven of helping the White Fang and Yang for helping Raven? I'm sorry for the long ask, I relate to Yang and to the Branwen Twins so I always pay a lot of attention to them but I don't think that RoosterTeeth developed them enough. I understand though that they were that indie company but Jaune's, Pyrrha's and Weiss's writing were satisfactory that I couldn't help but wish that it extended to all of the main characters.
Hello anon!
I am happy my analyses helped you see things from different angles! RWBY is a show full of symbolism, so it is very funny to analyze and to rediscover plotlines and characters through different lens!
As for your question, I actually think Yang, Qrow and Raven are all pretty well written.
In general, from what you write, I get the feeling you are so passionate about them that you would like many plotlines and basically a whole story about these characters :) This is totally normal when it comes to faves. However, RWBY is an ensembled cast story and to tell the story it wants to tell, its characters need to share focus and to be instrumental to the overarching narratives. In other words, it is not that there could not be a whole book about Yang, Qrow or Raven (as there is 1 on Neo and 2 on team Coffee), but then it would be a completely different story and not RWBY anymore.
In series, all 3 characters have been written/are written rather well and in ways that fit their overall importance and role. And here we arrive to my first consideration. Of the 3 characters you mention, only Yang is a main character. Qrow is definately an important character with an overarching arc, but he is not a protagonist. As for Raven, she is probably a mix of Ironwood and Winter. She is the antagonist of a specific arc and symbolically the adult the protagonists must not become. At the same time, she is a Maiden with an arc like Winter and will probably come back to finish her own story.
Before we get to each of them, I'll try to answer to your doubts.
I have been feeling like that ever since it was revealed that Raven Branwen is famous in Mistral. Shouldn't that affect how Yang was treated by some people in Patch or in Signal or in Beacon?
Yang's surname is Xiao Long, so I doubt anyone would link her to Raven unless Yang herself were to share the info. She does with her team and some of her friends (Jaune knows Raven is Yang's mom in volume 5), but I doubt she is gonna tell others. I mean, the first person she opens up to in regards to her mother is Blake and she is her love interest and partner :''')
What is more, I think it is important to note that a famous bandit in Mistral is different than famous worldwide. What is more, I doubt many people outside her tribe even know Raven has a daughter.
And Raven Branwen wore a Grimm Mask which is largely associated with the White Fang, shouldn't they suspect Raven of helping the White Fang and Yang for helping Raven?
The White Feng has only started using Grimm masks recently, while the Branwen tribe has been active for much longer. In general, I doubt Adam or Raven are the only 2 people in Remnant that have had the idea of using Grimm masks to scare their opponents. In particular, I would not be surprised if this were a recurring occurrence for bandits, like Raven is. Sure, she is specifically using hers to hide her Maiden powers, but I doubt she is the only bandit ever to ever wear a monster mask :P
Anyway, even if she were grimm mask is a very weak evidence to link together 2 groups with a different story, different objectives and different modus operandi.
The White Feng is an activist group that spiralled into violence and terrorism as time went by.
The Branwen tribe is a group of bandits that attack villages.
They have literally zero connections. Even if they had, why should anyone think Yang helped Raven when she has never met her mother before the Mistral arc? Also, Yang has been personally victimized by Adam and even lost an arm. Why would anyone think she is somehow in favor of the White Feng?
Let's briefly see the stories of the 3 characters.
YANG
I would love to work on a meta on her soon (once I finish some other ones I have programmed and that keep multiplying LOL), so I won't write a long analysis.
In general, I think you might have registered 2 things.
a) Yang is initially out of focus
b) Her arc is about family, just like Weiss's
a) In the Vale Arc the characters that take the spotlight are Weiss, Jaune, Pyrrha and Blake. Ruby gets some focus and foreshadowing as well, while Yang mostly stays in the background until the arc's finale. That said, she still receives a lot of set up and her arc kind of explodes in volume 3. In short, what seems as Yang staying in the background is actually her having her arc set up and prepared, so that it can be explored in volume 4, 5 and 6 where she and her relationships get a lot of focus.
b) Yang's arc is focused on the concept of family, just like Weiss's and from your thoughts it seems to me you would have liked for her a similar struggle to what Weiss has. Yang's mom is a bandit, so she should struggle with it, be judged for it and overcome it. However, this is not Yang's conflict, but Weiss's. It works for Weiss because she tries to escape from a father who is a control freak and because her story is actually a commentary on privilege. Yang's problem is the opposite. She is trying to find Raven and to understand why her mom gave up on her and their bond. Weiss's conflict would not work for her as a result. Why should she feel guilty for a mother she has had 0 interactions with her whole life?
Yang is actually in a unique position compared to other characters because she has 3 key relationships, all equally important and complementary. They are Raven, Ruby and Blake. Personally, I think they might tie to Yang's Goldilock allusion.
As for now, Yang has gone through her allusion twice. The first time, in the Yellow Trailer and the second time in volume 5, when she goes to Raven's camp.
Both times Yang arrives in a place looking for a family member. Both times she makes a ruckus and disappears through a window:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is Goldilock's synopsis :P A girl arrives into the 3 bears' home looking for a place that fits her, she does not find it and disappears after bringing chaos. This is Yang's struggle.
Her allusion being referenced in the trailer and in volume 5 is also conveyed through easter eggs. In the trailer, she fights masked bears and Junior whose name is a wordplay on baby bear. In volume 5, she finds herself in a gas station called Just Rite and Shay comments that she is "not too bulky, not too lean, but just right". They are hints to draw attention to the allusion.
Anyway, the trailer and volume 5 actually mirror each other. The first time, she is looking for Raven and finds Ruby. The second time, she is looking for Ruby and finds Raven.
It is obvious Ruby and Raven are opposite symbolic relationships for Yang (Raven even asks Yang to choose btw herself and Ruby). Both are family members, but Raven is the mom who left Yang. Ruby is instead the little sister that needs Yang.
In the Yellow trailer Yang basically throws a temper tantrum over not finding her mom:
Tumblr media
In the character short of volume 5 she goes full mama bear to save Ruby:
Tumblr media
Can you see where I am going with this? Raven is the mom that gives no protection (too cold), Ruby is the little sister Yang must protect (too hot).
So, where does the "Just right" lies?
Tumblr media
Blake: She’s not protecting me, Adam. And I’m not protecting her. We’re protecting each other.
Obviously, it is still too soon to say for sure because Yang's arc needs a top off, but I would not be surprised if her story were about finding her place at Blake's side. This does not mean her relationships with Raven and Ruby will stop being important, but rather that they will find a resolution and become more balanced.
And here is the key theme of Yang's arc. It is about reconciling balance with asymmetry.
Yang does not need to become "Just Right" in the sense of symmetrical. However, this does not mean she should be unbalanced as a result:
Taiyang: You're still off balance.
In this sense, she must find her own personal "Just right". She must become balanced to embrace her own asymmetry to the fullest.
This is the point of her arc in Mistral where she learns to live with asymmetry (symbolically her missing an arm), but also finds more inner balance (becoming a more calculated fighter).
This change goes through her learning to "see" in the sense of understanding complexity more. Other characters often joke that Yang is not subtle, but her arc is all about subtlety:
Ache and yearn (ache and yearn) Can't wait for the pages to turn Play both sides (play both sides) When truth you cannot recognize And any remarkable heart Has gone through the hardship and shame That's born of standing apart From the easily processed The uniform army of "same" And that's just so lame!
She learns to live with complexity because accepting asymmetry and that there are no easy answers is the only way to find balance:
Yang: I told you: I'm not telling you to stop! I haven't! To this day, I still want to know what happened to my mother and why she left me, but I will never let that search control me. We're going to find the answers we're looking for, Blake. But if we destroy ourselves in the process, what good are we?
Yang: You were being optimistic. Look, blind optimism isn’t great, but no optimism means we already lost. We need hope. We need to take risks.
This is also why her early arc is full, full, full of illusions. She fights Neo (an illusionist) on the train and thinks she is imagining Raven. She is tricked by Emerald and Mercury through illusions at the Vytal festival. Later on, she once again faces Em and Merc at Haven, where they use illusions to fight her (and symbolically Em materializes an illusion of Raven).
Other than this, what to say? Up until now, I think Yang's arc is really her burning out only to chill and find a better balance.
Initially, she burns herself out to find Raven, but then she learns not to give up without destroying herself.
She is presented as a reckless fighter that learns how to be "smarter" and she goes from overusing her semblance to finding a better equilibrium.
An interesting case of "too hot, too cold and just right" might also lie in how she is initially kind of contradictive on pursuing the Huntress career.
She is the character literally introduced as burning (too hot), but at the same time she lacks a strong drive to become a Huntress (too cold).
As she superficially chills, she finds a deep drive and determination (just right).
QROW AND RAVEN
I have discussed their arcs here and here for Qrow.
In short...
Qrow's arc is about luck and bad luck and how these 2 ideas are actually just linked to perspective when he is concerned. He sees himself as a bad luck charm, but his loved ones actually thinks they are lucky to have him:
Yang: But, as luck would have it, our uncle showed up just in time
As the story progresses, he starts to realize it is his own self deprecation that is damaging to his loved ones and makes some steps to fix his flaws (his alcoholism). In Atlas he grows thanks to his relationship and foiling with Clover, that even if tragic is still incredibly important.
He is taught to value himself by him, is later told by Robyn he is not the only one suffering for his semblance and symbolically he "gets" good luck because he keeps fighting for what is right... in what is basically the Fisherman's good luck. The fable, which is also Clover's allusion, is about an unlucky fisherman who keeps working earnestly and is rewared by fish jumping on his boat willingly after a very bad day. The aesop is that if you pursue a good cause, luck will find you. Clover is lucky, but pursues a bad cause and luck leaves him behind. Qrow is unlucky, but he is genuinelly trying to do what is right. Hence good fortune finds him also symbolically thanks to Clover's memory and teaching. So, he symbolically integrates with Qrow.
Raven is instead the embodyment of the anti-theme in the Mistral arc. She is who the protagonists (especially Yang and Blake) must not become. She is a person who wears a mask of intelligence and strength to hide the fact she is just a coward. She is really a more complex and less obvious version of Lionheart.
Obviously her arc is then to overcome this flaw. As for now, though, she has spiralled rather than getting better. Volume 5 is literally her just making all the wrong choices. She sacrifices Vernal and puts Yang in danger. Even in the finale, when she is once again asked to act as an adult and a mother and to protect Yang, she chooses to run away leaving Yang behind with the relic. She is once again defeated by her flaw.
Now, this is clearly not the end of Raven's story. I think she'll redeem herself, but since she has fucked up pretty badly (a parent killing a child figure is never a good thing and she has done or tried to do it with 3 daughters so far, so maybe chill Raven) she might die in the process. This is where I see her arc going. I also think she'll be back in the Vacuo arc where we will finally discover what happened to Summer and maybe even meet her in some form... I am expecting some foiling going on between Raven herself and Summer.
Thank you for the ask!

What does a normal sex session between Yang and Oscar look like?
Well it tends to be kind of hard for Oscar to see, due to the fact his face is usually squashed in between her breasts. Yang loves it when he sucks on her nipples and she holds in between her thighs; missionary is their favorite position because she can look down and see his cute little face at work. She also loves to take her robotic hand and turn on the vibration function to mess around with him down there; stick a finger in his ass, or massageging his balls. It usually ends with Oscar Trying to tell her that he’s close from between her chest, and her ignoring him getting excited for a cream pie. And afterwards obviously there’s some cuddling, but Oscar tends to be the big spoon define all logic.

A bunch of Destiny 2 asks for your Guardian OCs
 1.     Where was your guardian raised?
She was raised on the Reef.
2.     What race is your Guardian?
She is Awoken.
3.     What do they look like?
She is 5’9”, long purple hair, emerald, green eyes (that change colors depending on her mood), periwinkle skin color.
4.     Guardian's name?
Seighdra/Seighdee
5.     Defining features?
Her eyes that change color and her long hair (not typically normal for Guardians)
6.     What's their Ghost's name?
Raven
7.     What does their ghost look like?
He is wearing the Dreamer’s Shell right now
8.     How do they view their revival?  Would they rather have stayed dead or be revived?
She fights with herself about her revival.  Life was so much easier when she was just an Awoken.
9.     Guardian's preferred weapon/weapons?
Black Talon, Calus mini tool, New Purpose, Agar’s Scepter (personally, anything tide to Crow or Uldren)
10. Guardian's class?
She can switch between all three classes, but mains Warlock.
11. Guardian's Subclass?
She usually runs Solar, but Void comes in a good second.
12. Does your Guardian hoard weapons and materials or are they picky?
She has a ton of weapons, but she can be picky on what she uses.
 13. Is your Guardian stealthy or "Stealthy"?
She can be when she needs to be.
14. Guardian's views on the different factions? i.e., Eliksni. Hive, Humanity, etc., etc.
She helps the Eliksni in the Last City.  Not a fan of the Hive.  A little tension with Caiatl (you’d have to read my fan fic)
15. Is your Guardian friendly with any of the Eliksni houses?
She helps the House of Light, used to be part of House of Wolves.
16. How do the different factions view the Guardian?
Some like her, some fear her.
17. How old are they?
My Guardian is about 13 Guardian years old, but she is much older than that.
18. Do they remember much of their past life?
She remembers all her past lives.  (Human before Awoken)
19. If your Guardian left behind audio logs like Cayde did after his death, what would they say?  Who would they be addressed to?
She had journals from her previous lives that she still has.  They aren’t addressed to anyone.
20. Is your Guardian jaded and bitter?  Or are they still doggedly determined, after all that's happened?
She has been bitter since her revival because she had remembered her past life, she was determined to get her old life back, but all while being a Vanguard puppet.
21. What do the Vanguard think of them?
The Vanguard thinks she is unstoppable.  They are a bit afraid of her though.
22. What does their Ghost think of them?
Her Ghost loves her but worries about her too.
23. How many exotics do they have?
60 weapons, 129 armor (some are dups, for different stats), 28 Ghosts shells, 21 ships, 27 sparrows
24. When, or if, they die, what will they leave behind?
Someone who was willing to train all who needed it.  One of the most powerful Awoken, and kids, lots of kids
25. If they had a unique exotic piece of gear, what would it be, and what would the flavor text be?
 26. How long did it take them to get to the Last City?
She wanted to go back home, but she knew the love of her life hated Guardians, so she made her way to the Last City from the Reef pretty quick.
 27. What were their first thoughts upon seeing the Traveler for the first time?
She was part of the group that left on the Yang Liwei with her family.  She didn’t really have any good or bad thoughts on the Traveler. Maybe more shock than anything.  I really haven’t written my back story yet on her.
28. Their reaction to Cayde-6's death?  Were they bloodthirsty, hungry for revenge, or tired and grieving after so many already lost?
She was married to Uldren Sov.  Cayde-6 was a good friend, but he was reckless, and she knew it.  Yes, she lost a good friend and mentor, but she also lost her husband.  She was very conflicted about everything.  She wanted justice, not revenge.  She loved Uldren and Cayde both.
29. What did they feel when they lost their Light during the Red War?
She felt lost, like her connection was gone.  She was scared because her family was living on the Tower when it was attacked.  She had no way of getting a hold of them because she didn’t have her Light.  She was a powerful Awoken but losing her Light she lost her connection.
30. If your Guardian lost their Ghost, what would their reaction be?
She would be lost, truly lost.  She and Raven have been through so much.
31. If they died, what would the Last City's reaction be?
Some Guardians might be glad because she was married to Uldren and then Crow.  But I like to think that she left an impression on most that they would mourn her for all the good she did and all the New Lights she helped train.
32. Depending on their Vanguard, what would they think about the Guardian's death?
I think the Vanguard would be devastated because she was their little puppet to do all their dirty work.
33. Guardian's favorite weapon?
Black Talon
34. Guardian's least favorite weapon?
35. ANY SPECIAL GRANADE LAUNCHER
36. Guardian's preferred look?  Are they well known for it?
She doesn’t really have a preferred look.  She has long hair which seems to not be normal for most Guardians, so people know her for that.
37. What ship do they fly and what does Holiday think of it?
Silkivory Vanish is her most used ship, her second used one is Pallas Galliot.  She gave Crow Radiant Accipiter.
38. How is their flying?
Her flying is amazing. She used to be one of Uldren’s Crow fighter pilots.
39. If you had to guess, what faction would you say they've killed the most of?
Hive
40. What was your Guardian before they were a Guardian?  Do they know?
She was an Awoken high Paladin.  She used to be a Crow until the Queen called on her to be at her side.  My Guardian remembered all of her past.  That is why she didn’t go back home for two years. She knew how Uldren felt about Guardians.
41. How long was your Guardian dead for before they were revived?  What age were they revived in?
She had only been dead for a day or two when she was revived.   She was, give or take, 12.8 billion years old.  She was an 18-year-old human before she became Awoken.
42. What does Shaxx think of their fighting and performance in the Crucible?
She’s not one to really do Crucible a lot, she is too busy training New Lights and saving Humanity. But he is very impressed with her fighting (it is my wishful thinking, I suck at Crucible)
43. How loyal are they to the Last City and the Traveler?  What would have to happen to test it?
She has been pretty loyal to the Last City, but there have been times she just wanted to give up. Right now, she is questioning the Traveler and what is up with it.  Why are the Hive granted the Light when they attack the ones who the Traveler protects. Two of her kids have been risen as Guardians and she wonders why they were chosen being they were young children when they died.
44. If your Guardian is the type for it, what's their favorite/preferred method of pranking?
She doesn’t really prank people much.
45. What do other Guardians think of them?
Some people love her, some people hate her.  It goes with the whole married to Uldren thing/he killed Cayde crap.
46. Do they fit their classes stereotypes?
Well, she is book smart, she was also a powerful Human before she was Awoken.  Remember she is all three classes, and she can change freely between all of them at any time.  I’d say she fits Warlock the most, but can fit somewhere into the other two.
47. Are they a no-nonsense get the job done type or a flashy and sarcastic joke cracker type?
I think she can be a little bit of both.
48. Guardian's worst fear?
Losing her family
49. Guardian's favorite food?
Mexican(any)
50. Guardian's favorite location?
Dreaming City, it is home to her.
51. What are your Guardian's views on Gambit?
It passes the time when needed.

Tumblr media
“there’s no use in arguing. it’s final, y/n”
you couldn’t swallow down the lump in your throat. maybe if you had been good your entire childhood you would have gotten what you wanted. is it really so bad for wanting to have a little fun?
your parents were powerful, and incredibly rich. you were to carry on their legacy, whether you were happy or not.
and now you’re here. sitting in a large dining room with your parents, your husband-to-be, and his parents.
“it’s a pleasure to meet you, yang jeongin”
the night moves on swiftly, discussing the formalities of your engagement and wedding. you wondered if life would ever feel normal for you again.
Tumblr media
you couldn’t lie, you felt so beautiful in this moment. your parents at least had the heart to let you choose out your dress. the lace border accentuates your curves, and you truly feel like yourself.
“you’re a beautiful bride you know”, lily whispers to you. you admired lily, how she was always able to stay positive in any situation. her gorgeous grey dress shimmering under the light.
you managed to smile at her, even with all the pain in your heart. jeongin wasn’t bad in any way, he actually seemed incredibly sweet. you just wanted to marry someone you loved. you wish you had behaved more.
that day, you walk down the aisle and recite your vows, most of which had no meaning to either of you. he still managed to smile wide, his dimples completely on display. if you weren’t so upset, you would’ve thought it was pretty cute.
you both dance for a little while and go to your new home later that night. your parents had bought it for you, and your things are already set up and unpacked. after a long night, you just want to sleep.
you quickly grab the extra blanket, making your way to the couch in the living room. you stop when you hear him speak out. “where are you going?”
“the couch?”, you say as if it wasn’t already obvious.
“why? there’s enough space here for the both of us”
you hesitate for a moment, but eventually set the blanket down and make your way to the bed. you lay close to the edge, making sure you don’t get too close.
“goodnight”
“goodnight, y/n.”
Tumblr media
two months pass in a breeze. you and jeongin have gotten over the initial awkwardness of your relationship, so it hasn’t been too terrible. you both have yet to do anything remotely romantic, your hopes of a perfect marriage already out the window.
“have a good day at work!”, you shout out before he leaves. “you too!”
you can’t see him, but you can practically hear the smile on his face. in a way, he reminded you of lily, always so optimistic and jolly for absolutely no reason. you didn’t mind though, as long as you could admire those adorable dimples.
you didn’t bother lying to yourself. yang jeongin was a beautiful man. defined cheekbones and his perfect fox eyes made him look so innocent. you wish you had stayed innocent. maybe then you wouldn’t have to be trapped in this marriage.
you couldn’t help but feel guilty. jeongin seemed like a good man. he always treats you well, and he’s incredibly respectful. maybe if you had been good, you both could have married someone you loved.
what’s done is done. you don’t spend any more time sulking about your past actions. quickly, you get ready for work and dart out the door, leaving your unwanted thoughts in the home behind you.
Tumblr media
you wake up to your alarm on time, quickly getting out of bed to make jeongin his morning coffee. as your senses start coming back to you, you begin to acknowledge the light snores coming from your right.
you’re met with a sleeping jeongin, who is about to be a late-for-work jeongin if he doesn’t wake up.
“jeongin, wake up”, you speak softly to him, careful not to alarm him. “it’s time for work”
he doesn’t budge. “jeongin”, you say a bit louder this time. he still doesn’t seem to wake so you walk over to his end of the bed. you slowly run your fingers through his hair, your movements soft and tender to not startle him.
“jeongin wake up, you’re gonna be late”
suddenly, jeongin stirs for a bit, blinking a couple times and then opening his eyes. “what time is it?”, his voice still raspy with sleep. “it’s almost seven”
he grabs your hand, his grip loose as if to let you escape in case you weren’t comfortable with such things yet. “thank you”, he says with the sweetest smile on your face.
he slowly gets out of bed, getting ready for the day ahead, and you go to the kitchen to prepare his coffee. his touch has been burned onto your skin, you can still feel the gentle grip around your wrist.
it’s the first time he’s really touched you since your wedding day. it’s safe to say you could definitely get used to it.
Tumblr media
“ughh nooooo”, he whines. “just give me five more minutesss”
“jeongin, you said that five minutes ago!”, you chuckle
eventually he gets up, and you get ready to make his coffee. this has become a regular routine, jeongin has been oversleeping a lot recently. you’re not quite sure why, but it’s pretty fun shaking him up in the morning.
jeongin loves seeing you smile. he doesn’t want to admit it though, he already knows you don’t like him. truthfully, he’s been falling for you, whether he wants to admit it or not.
you’re so caring towards everyone you meet, he couldn’t help it. not to mention you’re absolutely gorgeous as well.
he’s lost in his thoughts again when you knock on the door. “jeongin, are you okay?”
he quickly checks the time, realizing he’s taken too long. he opens the door to see you right in front of him. “yeah sorry, i was just… fixing my tie”
you hand him his coffee as he walks out the door. “have a good day at work jeongin!”
he smiles, you can see it this time. “you too sweets!”, he practically beams at you. he quickly walks out and shuts the door, leaving you in the corridor, shades of red spreading across your entire face.
sweets? that was new. you didn’t mind though.
Tumblr media
you wake up to the bed shaking a little bit. you wondered what was going on, and then you heard little whimpers and gasps for breath beside you.
no. there’s no way right? not while you’re sleeping. not while you’re sharing a bed. not while he was right next to you.
“jeongin?”
he continued shaking, but he stopped making noise, “it’s nothing, just go to sleep”
you scoot closer to him, hesitating for a bit before you wrapped your arms around him and put your head on his shoulder. your chest was pressed to his back, your warmth calming him a little.
“i… i had a nightmare”
relief was all you felt at first. thank god. but then his words hit you. nightmare? was this why he had been losing sleep?
“would you like to talk about it?”
he frowned a little bit, “no, not really”
you continue to embrace him, holding his hand through it all. you felt terrible, you hope he’s okay. considering the amount of times you’ve had to wake him up in the morning, this has definitely been going on for a while.
“can i do something, please?”
you mumble a “mhm”, not able to get much out due to your sleepy state. he turns over to face you, and you let go of him to make it easier.
he tentatively brings his arms towards you. “can i…? just for a little bit.”
you pull him closer to you, both of you now in the middle of the bed. he buries his head in your chest, looking up at you to make sure you’re okay with it. you don’t answer, you just take your hand and run it through his hair like you do every morning.
he feels guilty for staining your shirt with all his tears, but he can’t seem to push himself away from you. the exhaustion keeps him there, and sleep slowly washes over him.
you make sure he’s asleep before closing your eyes and falling asleep. you hope the nightmares stop soon.
Tumblr media
“good morning jeongin”, you speak softly. “mmmphh”, is all you hear from him, followed by a loud groan that makes you laugh. “get dressed dummy”
you lift yourself off the bed, making his coffee and waiting for him. he enters the room not too long after, grabbing the coffee and, like usual, saying “have a good day at work sweets!”
“you too jeonginnie!”, you giggle.
jeongin stops in his tracks at the door, face flushing red. “what’s wrong jeongin?”, you ask, slightly worried.
“nothing, just hot outside.”, he says as he leaves.
you chuckle to yourself. it’s the middle of december.
Tumblr media
the two of you have seemed to get closer after that night, entangling your limbs whenever you go to sleep. it was great for the both of you, especially considering the harsh weather.
you two have become great friends, having many movie nights and taking little trips. you enjoyed it actually, a lot.
you really did expect the whole relationship to feel awkward, and it did. it felt awkward as lovers, but you seemed to be great friends.
jeongin on the other hand, is stuck yearning for more. he loves the way you feel, your touch setting him on fire. he loves how comforting you are, how comforting you feel.
he loves the silly nicknames you give him all the time, and all the times you spend with him. he knows you don’t like him back, which made his thoughts just so much worse.
how could he fall for someone who doesn’t see him any more than a friend.
Tumblr media
jeongin slowly started distancing himself. he wasn’t trying to hurt you in any way of course, but he didn’t want to fall for someone that would never like him back. he knew you wouldn’t feel the same way, especially considering the fact that you two were forced into this marriage.
he hasn’t been sleeping with you in his arms anymore, instead taking his side of the bed again, back turned to you. he’s stopped calling you his sweets, and to be honest you kind of missed it. the only time you see him anymore is at night, he’s been leaving the house earlier before you wake up.
you miss seeing his sleeping figure in your arms.
you miss being his sweets.
you miss making him coffee.
you miss him.
you’re beginning to realize you miss him a little too much. more than a friend should. maybe you really do like yang jeongin. you wish he never pushed you away.
Tumblr media
jeongin feels guilty for never speaking to you, but he’s also upset at himself. he doesn’t think he can stand speaking to you again before falling harder for you. he didn’t mean to fall so hard. it just all happened to abruptly, he didn’t have time to catch himself.
he found himself admiring your features while you were sleeping, brushing his nose against yours. he’d always stay a couple extra minutes after you made his coffee just to hear your morning voice.
he adored everything about you, he still does. but he’s so scared. he knows you won’t feel the same way.
meanwhile, you’re a complete mess. it feels as if there’s no one living with you anymore, that it just someone who comes to bed to sleep and leaves in the morning.
you miss him so much. maybe you do like him after all. you’re upset you didn’t tell him sooner. maybe if you did, he would have stayed.
Tumblr media
“well why can’t you do any work around the house?! it’s completely unfair to me jeongin. i feel like i haven’t seen you in days!”
you’re not sure how the fight came up, all you know is that you’re angry as hell and about to blow up on him.
“y/n could you please not yell. i’m really tired and-“
“oh! so you think i’m not tired? i work everyday too! and yet i still clean the house all the time. you can’t even seem to do basic things.”
he slowly makes his way to you, reaching out to you in hopes to calm you down, but you take a step back, to which he drops his arms at his side.
“if i had the choice i would have never married you. i hate you, you know that? i hate you for ruining my chance at a perfect marriage.”
your words cut him deeper than a knife. his whole heart shattering right as he processed those words. he couldn’t stay anymore, he couldn’t let you see him cry again. “i’m sorry. i’m going to bed now. goodnight y/n.”
“that’s it?”
he quickly nodded, walking off before you could see his tears fall. he quickly removed his work outfit, putting it in the wash. he threw on a hoodie and flopped onto the bed.
you walked in after him, only to take the extra blanket and lay down on the couch. it was incredibly uncomfortable, but your pride stood in the way of competent thinking.
Tumblr media
you wake the next morning, a pillow under your head which you were sure you hadn’t brought the night before. you check the time, walking into your room to get ready for work. as you walk out, you take a look at the kitchen.
dishes squeaky clean, countertops cleared of any spam mail. there’s a bouquet of roses on the counter, you wonder how early he had to be out to get this for you.
with it lies a note, “i’m sorry for last night. i promise to be better. i hope you can forgive me.”
your heart feels like it’s being wrung of all its blood once you see the teardrop on the slip of paper. your head drops down in disappointment. how could you be so cruel to such a sweet man?
you make your way to work again, distracted by your thoughts the entire day. you wanted to cry, but you couldn’t. it was your fault to begin with.
Tumblr media
a couple hours later you make your way home. jeongin is already waiting for you. he’s never home so early, his shift doesn’t end till three hours.
“jeongin? why are you home?”
he smiled a little, “i wanted to cook dinner for you”
your heart clenched when you looked at his sad smile. you shouldn’t have been so terrible to him. you figured you’d give him a proper apology later, you were too tired to even think right now.
quickly, you finish your food and make it to your room, working on a couple more projects before finally putting away your laptop and heading to bed.
“oh, you’re sleeping here tonight?”
“yeah, the couch is too small”, you laugh nervously.
“oh! i can go sleep on the couch tonight if you’d like”, he smiles.
seeing him smile at something like this made you sick to your stomach. he’s too pure for his own good.
“no that’s okay, i don’t mind”
he gets into bed again, back turned towards you. you shuffle underneath the sheets, trying to find a comfortable position. you’re facing his back when you’re finally comfortable, and you close your eyes.
not too long after, jeongin turns around, tears staining his cheeks. his breath is shaky, still hiccuping from his sobs. he runs a thumb along your cheekbone, holding your head in place while he admires you.
one particularly loud sob escapes his lips, and your eyes open immediately. jeongin is too shocked to realize, but quickly moves his hand away when he’s processed what happened. “i’m sorry… i wasn’t gonna do anything.”
you didn’t let him say anything else, you just pulled him closer to you, how you’d always sleep before this. you felt his sobs shake his body, small cries leaving his lips.
“did you mean it?”
you were a little confused, and only let out a ‘hm?’
“do you really hate me?”, his words are broken up by gasps for air.
you think back to what you said the day before, guilt engulfing you all over again. “no jeongin, i didn’t mean it. i’m so sorry, i was just angry and frustrated. i didn’t mean any of it”
he let out a sigh of relief, cuddling closer to you. you chuckled a little, “jeez relax, you’re gonna suffocate me”
he quickly loosened his grip on you, “‘m sorry, i just missed you”, he confessed quietly.
you gave a quick peck to his forehead, missing these intimate moments you had with him. you start to remember why you love him so much.
“can i confess something?”
“anything innie. what’s on your mind?”
“y/n, i think i’m in love with you”
your heart stopped.
your grip on him loosened.
“fuck, i- i’m sorry i didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable or anything”
you just look at him and smile, your heads now on the same level. you scoot forwards, your foreheads now touching. you’ve been waiting so long to tell him, you just didn’t think he could ever feel the same about you.
“i love you, yang jeongin.”
his eyes widen, and then they fill with tears. you hold his chin, looking into his eyes for permission. he lightly nods, and you couldn’t hold back.
you lock lips, fitting together perfectly. they dance along with eachother, light gasps and hums filling the room now. the kiss wasn’t needy, it was one of love, comfort.
“i’ll be a better husband, i promise. i’m so sorry”
“no, im sorry. i was just angry at you for no reason. i love you so much my jeonginnie. i really wouldn’t choose anyone over you”
his eyes widened a bit at your sincerity, but he quickly stole your lips in a kiss again. “thank you for giving me a chance sweets”
you nuzzle your nose against his, giggling as you cuddled up into him again. no moment could compare to this one. something about the way he looked at you felt so incredibly intimate, emitting a warmth that could be produced in no other way but pure adoration.
you adored him. and he adored you alike. his sweets.

watched half of movie yangs power is the only one I like bc hers is the most similar to her weapon and is firey like her semblance. rubys is. okay. at least it’s similar to her normal semblance. Blake got the can be what ever is most convenient for the plot power and weiss doesn’t have a power which is chill I just. yknow wish she’d. yknow not stuck her hands out once and said oops no powers for me and instead tried multiple times? put a little more oomph in it? not immediatly resign herself to that? it’s weiss. I know she’s grown and I love her for it but I wish she was still a bit bitchy. especially about this? stupid ducking world doesn’t even give her powers it takes hers away and for WHAT??? she was by herself I think it would be totally fair of her to go OH COME ON WORK WORK WORK POWERS NOW PLEASE and then resign herself to nigh defenselessness and go UNFAIRRRR. because. it is. rip weiss. also. not a justice league guy these powers. are like. what. I hate the green lantern thing why is. why. yeah wow amazing insta transport bubble blah blah whatever see okay at least with rwby. I know. what they can do. ruby can turn into rose petals and move around all fast weiss has. hee glyphs which are less defined but whatever- it’s better than this bullsgit. blake has her shadow clones and Yang goes on a rampage.
like. limitations on things and figuring out what will work and how to get around these with what you’ve got is. very good. and enjoyable. and not super boring. being able to do everything ever on a whim is. very boring. get creative with it. please. plweeeeasseeeeee they do too much it’s too BOOORING. literally the one I like the most is canary because she has ONE THING. and even then like. whatever okay look I feel like she’d be useful in very specific circumstances which are not the ones she’s put in but it’s okay because she just needs to give what she’s got but I wish. someone who can do literally anything because these powers are stupid could like. help her out help her play more to her own strengths. single grim out for her to attack on her own. she gets a good long scream at one concentrated target I think that would be good but Whatevrr

Hi! What do you think of how Yang's PTSD has been handled in the story? I read some people think it was solved too easily and I wanted your opinion about it!
Well, as someone with diagnosed PTSD... I personally love it. I think it’s a very solid portrayal.
Of course, it won’t ring home for everyone--no one’s experiences are exactly the same. And it’s not that there are no critiques. But, I think CRWBY has done a pretty good job of portraying it for two reasons:
Yang’s trauma is both a part of her and yet does not encapsulate the whole of who she is; and
Its portrayal of what flashbacks and anxiety look like, on a personal level, made me feel seen.
A lot of stories, when using the trauma/PTSD angle, have a bad habit of either portraying the inciting incident of trauma as the defining moment in the character’s existence, or acting as if it’s no big deal.
Ruby: I'm so glad you're okay!
Yang: But I'm not.
For the latter, I've seen so many portrayals that just gloss PTSD over as an inconvenience, or as something that someone magically gets over. This isn’t Yang’s story, and I’ll explain why later.
The reality is that PTSD isn’t always something people get over so much as many learn to live with it. (And, in general, I do not like the current move towards pushing language that implies people aren’t suffering from certain mental illnesses. “A person with PTSD” is often preferred over “a person who suffers from PTSD” and sorry, no, PTSD by its definition is characterized by suffering. Negating that is not woke or pro-inclusion; it’s insulting by making yourself feel comfortable about inclusion while ignoring the thorny part that having PTSD fucking sucks. (I know many may disagree; that's fair. On my blog I get to say what I think, though, and I personally find it offensive.))
How does this connect to Yang? Well, RWBY displays Yang suffering. The everyday reminds her of what she lost in her arm, and of the experience losing it. Trauma healing involves grieving, and grief comes stages. Even when you arrive at "acceptance," you still have a loss.
Yang: everyone keeps talking about me getting back to normal. But this is normal now.
Yang: Do you want me to just pretend it didn’t happen? I lost a part of me. A piece of me is gone, and it's never coming back.
Yang's trauma is literally a part of her, with her arm always being gone. The mechanical one isn’t the same, even if it is functionally awesome. I know people like to harp on this and I’m not saying the portrayal is accurate to an amputee’s, because I can’t speak to that, but as a metaphor within the story itself I personally think it works. The mechanical arm can be a weakness in some situations and even a strength in others, as trauma can be, but it's clear Yang would still prefer her arm back even if that won't happen, and that's just--honest, imo.
I also think it works as a symbol of and a parallel to Yang's relationships with her mother and with Blake. Her mother--well. While Raven may sacrifice herself in the end for Yang (imo, she should), Yang and Raven are never going to have a normal mother/daughter relationship. Raven left her for no good reason, and she's not coming back.

However, Blake does come back. Not just physically (in which they both end up going to the same place and meeting), but emotionally. That won't like, replace her mother's abandonment, but it does at least offer Yang unconditional love and acceptance, and shows her that even if some people won't change, some can.
Like Ruby says to end Volume 4:
You told me once that bad things just happen. You were angry when you said it, and I didn't want to listen. But you were right. Bad things do happen, all the time, every day. Which is why I'm out here, to do whatever I can, wherever I can, and hopefully do some good... We've all lost something, and I've seen what loss can do to people. But if we gave up every time we lost, then we'd never be able to move forward.
I appreciate this because Ruby shows empathy towards Yang, while also asking her to keep growing--because they need her, given the terrible circumstances of their world. It contrasts a bit with what Tai said--and here’s where I’ll say I have an issue with the portrayal: I don’t like Tai’s advice to Yang at times in volume 4. I do think he pressures her to grow when she has explicitly said she isn’t ready, and the idea that she should be grateful for the mechanical arm is--yeah, but it’s not empathetic. I also don’t think this is framed awesomely.

About the symptoms of PTSD... PTSD is an anxiety disorder. Flashbacks are not always literally disorienting or hallucinations, although they may be. Most stories portray them almost exclusively as hallucinations; while I understand why hallucinations work best for stories in a lot of ways, it’s not really accurate to my experience, so I appreciated seeing something that was more along the lines of what I live with. For a long time I didn’t realize I was having flashbacks until my therapist explained that it doesn’t mean a hallucination; I find them disorienting but I'm very aware of where I am and that I'm not in the situation during one; it just feels like I am. They are moments when you are triggered to the extent where you absolutely cannot resist the terror you felt during the trauma storming your mind, and it feels emotionally as if you’re reliving it at the moment. This may include a hallucination. It also may not.

Yang's flashbacks (like when she drops the glass in the kitchen) were clearly her experiencing anxiety, but not full hallucinations. Yang’s nightmares were also very accurate to what PTSD is like in my experience: they’re not always (if ever) exact recountings of what happened (though again, I see why stories often portray them this way). They’re similar situations, where you do relive the trauma, but like any dream they blend facts and ideas across time.
I don’t think Yang’s PTSD is depicted as being over--it’s more just that Yang has mostly completed her arc and we have other characters to focus on. It’s also likely to come up a bit again whenever Raven reappears. Possibly in Volume 9. I also think this argument misses the complex factor: Yang’s trauma does not begin and end with Adam. She’s been traumatized since she was a kid, since Raven abandoned her, and Adam was a sudden inciting incident that brought a lot of issues to the surface. But it wasn’t the sole cause. Yang’s been struggling to cope with trauma since Season 1 (or even since the “Yellow” trailer). She’s still learning.
And that is how PTSD recovery goes: you learn better coping mechanisms. Yang has learned better coping mechanisms, and having a partner in Blake is actually very much a realistic portrayal of something that can help alleviate PTSD symptoms. Again, I don’t think Yang has gotten over it, but she’s learned to live with it. Her arm is always gone. Adam is gone. Her mother is not the mother she deserves. But she has Blake, and Ruby, and Weiss, and Qrow, and others.
And isn’t that what RWBY’s about: continuing on in the face of loss, when things will never be the same, because some things can still be better?
