Okay i caved to the questions. welcome to ted's omegaverse except there's like no omegas in the verse. Pls don't kill me

Omegas Exist, but... the sportsworld is far too toxic for most to exist Normally, i mean. Male sports especially, but even the wnba had a streak at the start of their development where it was originally believed that only female alphas would just Barely be strong enough to commit to a sport ( a bad mix of misogyny and secondary hierarchy ) . Male-dominated sports have the similar feel in terms of outdated stances plaguing public opinion, but keep it simpler with ' only Alphas are strong enough for Sport.'

However, this has started to change.

Not in favor of the omega, no, don't be silly! Nothings ever in favor of Them.

It's not Exactly favor of The Beta either, but the betas do at least get to keep their name. You see, betas play fundamental roles in team sports especially. They may not be as valued (not in a star sense, but a 'i need a wheel that'll make this car move (team gain traction/fans) and a beta would be perfect' valuing kind of sense. You're just a worker, but hey! At least you CAN work, right? Unlike The Invaluables.) in independent sports like boxing, but good betas are Critical to a TEAM that needs a Championship -- that needs Roleplayers .

Team rulebook 5. Betas are the Best roleplayers. That's the best fame they'll ever seem to get, it seems.

Although some delusional fans and sometimes gms may try to construct a team of mainly alphas (either a lot of young alpha top picks or veteran alpha players hungry for a win ) for the raw power, intensity, and.. cool factor.. it usually falls apart pretty sadly. They need a mediator, someone who won't get greedy or frustrated with the fame or lack of it. Someone who's willing to pass, willing to come in and be the clog rather than the mechanic, someone who's a Beta whose only sense of belonging Is belonging.

Sports rulebook 6. Betas Stand Second.

Most betas have accepted this before entering a sport, ever since Scottie Pippen embarrassed himself for trying to flip the Beta narrative and failing laughably .

Betas can be bad. Bill Laimbeer will beat the breaks off anyone. They can also be good. Pippen would try to middleman Jordan's frustrations with his team, especially the rups (rookie 'pups', men playfully called pups because they're new to the sport). Shaq and Magic both have humorous charms that make them Feel like alphas.. but they needed more to get a ring. They needed alpha teammates, ultimately. no matter how big or bad or good a Beta may be, they are always Second. But they should never, never be considered first. That's an alpha's job. Orlando made that mistake drafting a beta to win them a ring, a beta that would eventually leave to ringchase with any alpha he could. Shaq's a bit shameless for a beta, but being shameless is maybe the only path to 'fame' (becoming a simple shtick to an easy-to-remember title, either being Sidekick, Dumb, Helpful, Funny, Enforcer, etc) for the life of a beta. Why? Because

Sports rulebook 1. Your Alpha Must Take Over.

Alphas can come in different shapes and sizes. Not all alphas are big and burly. They're not all hyper-confident or aggressive for no reason. But they Do have to come and take over a team. They DO HAVE TO feel possessive over their players, obsessive over their plays. Betas are there just to work, PICKED just to WORK, but alphas? Alphas are different. They Have to be the spark.

Michael Jordan was an alpha who presented very, very late. No one is exactly sure when he presented. Even Michael's story changes from before getting cut in highschool to after to college to the 'flu' game. But Everyone, at one point, thought he was a beta. ( His siblings laugh at this. )And then he wasn't. And then he won. And then he became a dictator .

But, again, there's a lot of alphas that haven't won. Charles Barkley, hilarious and prickly, perhaps too prickly at times, can be his own downfall from either sheer laziness or stubbornness. Some didnt always 'Win' in life like alpha fanboys or alpha egoists might try to persuade. Wilt was great, but personality-wise? .... other alphas like Kareem butted heads with him.. and even betas like Magic would then butt heads with Kareem! Allen Iverson played by his own self-indulgent rules and won through his fashionable impact, self-oriented liberation, and also lost by playing his own self-indulgent rules through trouble with money. Isiah Thomas defends his team and their troubles like a bull, oftentimes a hypocritical.. near-sighted bull. Larry Bird? Competitive. And fucking Rude.

Sports rulebook .....: Alphas Can Be Double-Edged To Either The Team, or Themselves

Alphas whose talent alone failed them by being either not enough, not determined, or entirely different to the subject become disgruntled sports 'analysts' who criticize betas or 'wannabe alphas' aka alphas whose behaviors don't seem 'alpha' enough (too docile). Others become known as busts. Others disappear. Others refuse to give up on their alpha birthright, scratching tooth and nail in the gleague, a disaster league of rups, failed alphas, struggling betas still trying to learn their place, and a few undercover omegas on suppressants. They can bounce around trying to take over team from team, or try to act more like a beta just to gain a secure job, only for their old trained instincts of Stardom to swoop in and make them seem stubborn and selfish (hog the ball during crucial moments). Many become coaches whose attachment to the game is almost parasitic as a purpose. Commentating is another option to fuel that parasocial fire.

You live as an alpha, you die as an alpha. It's a Sport.

That is, until Rodman happened.

Hes not an alpha, some thought he was, during his bulls era. But at the beginning, he was a beta. A gangly pistons player during the dirty work of defense. A beta who blended into whatever his team was, a bad boy, a nitty gritty, a winner, a loser -- whatever his team needed, he became. And then, his team needed him traded.

He started taking more, at first. Started becoming defiant, becoming aggravated. Paranoid at Popovich's overwhelmingly alpha abuse of power, of persistence, of Perception.

Isiah begged him to keep it easy, it's not safe to take so much, it's Untested. It's got side effects, he's seen them from players who wanted to get as far as rodman could but couldn't. They weren't strong like rodman. Another alpha giving him his unsolicited opinion. Bill told him to suck it up. Betas can be so bitter. Pop's yelling. Such a dusty smell, red sand that made your nose itch and not in the fun, just snorted ski slopes way. And now he's gotta deal with Pippen's wary, flipflop scent of calming then chilling hormones soothing then spiking the air as most betas do. And now, he's got Michael telling him to--

... Michael's pouring his pills down the toliet, both his heat suppressants .. and his Rut Inducers. He's skipped from telling and has gone straight to Doing .

One look from the ??? and Rodman realized.

Rodman realized he was tired of wanting to be wanted like a starting alpha but personal enough to be privately pressed like a working beta. Rodman realized a lot of things about himself and others that day. 1. He was tired of always crumbling to others' norms. 2. 'ROIDing' is an action that can be used primarily by athletes because they can afford it. 3. Other athletes besides himself have/can do it. 4. He's just the only one that's made it now known to the world that He is Dennis Rodman, He is an Omega, and He's used ROIDing to void his omega symptoms with suped up suppressants then Replicated Rut with raging inducers & created a Beautifully sensitive Beta, then, increasing both doses heavily, an abstract Alpha.

In short, yeah, he's used ROIDs. But he's stopping now. He's playing completely without the doses. Not too little, not too much, it's done. Zero. Isn't that great? Isn't that what sports always preach in the end? That it's You who wins or loses in the end. Not just your Talent, or your Drive, your Reach, it's You. You, crazy culmination You, who matters ultimately in Your world.

So why is everyone so horrified.

The sport changes after this. A few, just a few, omegas can show now, like, actually Show and not curtain themselves behind overloaded prescriptions. Apparently, even betas could ROID back then with just rut inducers to enhance alpha behavior and appear or Become alphas as long as they continue to doses. But most scrutiny lies in omegas ROIDing into betas, since it's a much easier dose to take in comparison to an omega -> alpha jump, which can have devastating side effects -- the most harmful being mental. Only those determined enough, Insane enough can commit themselves fully without cutting too abruptly and creating even more damage through their hesitancy. And even if the process is completed, the effects may be harsher than expected.

Betas start to become the new scrutinized spotlight, either torn by criticism of doing too much or too little, or skepticism on whether or not they're 'Real'. Alphas, in turn, get desperate to outshine the shiners, whether accomplishing that feat via negative or positive means. It's rumored some have even started turning themselves into Betas now, hard dosing rut suppressants when they're that desperate to try and tame the ego that torments them. Some say it's for the better, some respond brilliantly to the dose, it was made for them, it was Them. Old packs often rip these kind of thoughts to shreds, not caring for empathetic stances, just their black & white view of what was once written. New packs accept the dosing, but the worst of the new packs pick and choose which to, either Everyone Has To or only The Good Ones can. Old players get their legacies questioned because their secondary hierarchy is questioned. Was Magic Really a beta? Or was he a self-conscious, self-compensating omega who craved the lure of feeling needed? And then even went an extra step with the rut inducers to make him a Shiny beta, charismatic enough to peacock? Or was he just that Magic to be a really flashy beta? OR OR.. is magic all of that at once? Maybe, if he did do it, he needed to?

ROIDing is a necessary medicine in sport now, newly designated as necessary using overstimulation risk as a reason to protect too many players from imprisonment & eventual shut down of the sport since suppressants were part of every player ( keeps betas clear-headed and alphas consolable ). But it's still debated by any side a group may conjoin as. The threat of its illegalization is looming. Violence, fear, envy, hatred. Trust no one.

Fuck Everyone ?

oh, yeah, anyone can top or bottom here. That at least remains the same. Positions can just go against the grain in less secret now.. however, that doesn't mean they're all exactly Comfortable to, though .

But you know who's mighty comfy?

Fluff prompt of “I’ll support your decision 100%....as long as it isn’t the dumb one”

Day in and day out you were constantly on Eddie’s side with most of his decisions no matter how crazy it seemed, Even when trying your best to keep him busy and get his attention on to something else that wouldn’t easily get him in trouble one way or the other.

Eddie likes to think that he never makes the dumb decisions, but sometimes that's easier said than done especially when he would jokeingly agree that Hellfire was a devil worshipping reject group or when he would be running after poking fun at the basketball team. Sometimes, he can be reckless and make decisions without really thinking them through. he has a tendency to jump into things head first without really considering the consequences.

He also has a tendency to be very stubborn and set in his ways, which can make it difficult for him to hear constructive criticism or suggestions. He has a tendency to be very secretive and guarded, even with the people who are closest to me. He has a hard time trusting others and opening up, but he’s trying to get better about that more so around you and when your both alone so he’d doesn’t have to worry about how others view him in that moment.

there are plenty of times where he’s done something and then immediately regretted it - like when he accidentally broke an antique vase at an old antique shop or sometimes will say things without thinking them through first, which has gotten him into some trouble a time or two or five. And of course, there's the whole "running around with a pack of teenagers while hiding a monster from the government" thing...

He’s most impulsive decision was when he lashed out at you when his temper wasn’t the greatest because of how bad his whole day had gone wrong and he probably shouldn't have done it. He was just feeling really upset and frustrated by the way the everything was going and he let his emotions get the best of him. But looking back, he didn't think yelling at the you was really going to do any good which it didn’t except make him feel even worse about it.

Both of you were just hanging around in the room where Hellfire meets as you both waited for everyone to show but you stayed for some quiet time since you had wanted to help him relax, He slowly made his way to you and sat down next to you keeping some space in case you weren’t happy with him still then he quietly spoke out loud to you “That was definitely a mistake on my part. I got so caught up in the moment and I just wanted to get everyone riled up. But I should've shown more restraint. I'm still learning how to control my emotions and I'm trying to work on being more aware of the consequences of my actions”. He said trying to ease the situation between you both.

Eddie sighed before speaking again as a way to let his walls come down for you “Honestly, it hurts. Because I know that I'm not a freak, I'm just different. I’m just trying to be myself and it hurts to have people judge me for that i think that people are so used to seeing the world in a certain way that it can be hard for them to accept someone like me. So when people call me a freak it feels like they're saying that I don't belong and that I'm not worth their time”. Feeling his words tug harshly on your heart strings knowing he never truly meant to hurt you or your feelings since he always did his best to even make sure you felt heard no matter what was going on.

Letting out a sigh as you thought over everything he had said before looking into his dark brown eyes and spoke softly “I’ll support your decision 100%....as long as it isn’t the dumb one” You said with a giggle which only made him laugh as well, Gripping his jacket tightly in your hands as he gently held your face in his hands just to lightly kiss you on the lips which showed you were really okay now then you both pulled each other closer as Eddie started to kiss you longer.

You barely pulled away from the kiss as you both panted from lack of air then you both looked each other in the eye feeling a new kind of tension rise in the air, Eddie gave you a playful grin before pulling you onto his lap as he placed feather-light kisses on your neck before sliding his hands up your shirt knowing if it was too much you’d pull away from his touch which he noticed you only leaned more into.

DWTS AU Chapter One: Premiere Night!

(Eventual Aricka x Bradley)

“Our first couple tonight is a debut pro and her first partner! Find out what happened when young pro dancer Aricka Mitchell met her partner, BAFTA, Teen and People’s Choice Awards winner Bradley Bradshaw….”

~~~~~~~~~ Rehearsal Package Footage~~~~~~~~

“Hi, I’m Aricka Mitchell. I’m 24 years old and this is my first season competing on Dancing With the Stars.” Aricka is sitting on a chair with a camera in front of her. “My parents are DWTS judge Pete Mitchell and former DWTS pro dancer Penny Benjamin-Mitchell. They are the sole reason why I dance today. I do everything to make them proud and I hope to win the Mirrorball Trophy my first year competing.”

The package cuts to show the door opening and Bradley Bradshaw walking in. Aricka claps her hands under her chin and wiggles side to side excitedly, “oh my gosh hi! How are you-!”

“I’m great, it’s nice to finally meet my dance partner,” Bradley immediately offered her a hug which she willingly accepted.

The footage cuts back to Aricka, hands over her face as she stage-screamed, “oh my GOSH, I got Bradley freaking Bradshaw, are you KIDDING me-?! He’s so talented and good looking, I know we’re going to have a blast.”

The footage cuts to Bradley; sitting backwards in his chair as he says, “I’ve watched a few seasons of this show and I knew it was something I wanted to do on my acting bucket list. I’ve seen Aricka dance when she was in the troupe and she just- lights up the ballroom so I can feel we’re going to have a good time this season together.”

Back in the rehearsal room, Aricka asks, “So, how much or little dance experience do you have?”

“I was a main character in the remake of Footloose, so I have that much dance experience. Plus my parents were and are firm believers in spontaneous song and dance parties.”

“Great. We’re going to be the best team this year.”

“And we’re going to win?”

“You know it!” Bradley and Aricka high five and laugh; and then the work began.”

**** jump cut*****

“And one two three- whoa-!” They trip and Aricka braced her arms on Bradley’s shoulders to steady him. “You good?”

“I’ve gotta get this right,” he says. Aricka smiles up at him reassuringly.

“You will. I know you can do this. Let’s try again.”

The footage cuts back to Aricka sitting in her chair, “Bradley has natural talent and charisma, but he gets in his head when it comes to letting himself relax and enjoy the music and not completely get lost in memorizing the steps. But it’s a challenge I enjoy facing, because it means he’s learning.”

Back with Bradley, we see him drag his hands down his face, “so this was a little more challenging than I originally anticipated, but Aricka is a great coach and she doesn’t let me stew too much if I make a mistake, she’s good at being the right mix of encouragement and constructive criticism.”

****jump cut***

“Watch me dance- YES-! Yes you did it-!” Aricka jumps into Bradley’s arms excitedly as he swings her around, “let’s do it one more time to lock it in.” The two of them return to their original position and redo the step Bradley had struggled on, and then the video faded out.

“Dancing the jive with his partner, Aricka Mitchell, it’s Bradley Bradshaw!”

Aricka stood in the center of the ballroom, one arm wrapped around her waist, the other in her hair mussing it playfully. Dua Lipa’s, “Dance the Night,” filled the room with playful music and Aricka flicked her arms out to the beat, and when it came to the, “don't you wanna just come along for the ride?” She motioned to someone in the audience; and Bradley slid out, literally, right to her feet where she pulled him up by his tie, kicking her feet out as he grabbed her hands and spun them both in a circle, and as the song reached the, “That's the moment I shine,” part hit, the spotlight shone down on them as Bradley dipped her with one arm, before pulling her up.

When the chorus hit, the couple exploded, pulling all the stops as they kicked their heels, hands out to the side, before Bradley grabbed Aricka’s hand, spun her twice, and as the chorus ended, hauled her up onto his shoulder as she reached for the ceiling as confetti rained down on them, before he dropped her, gripping her ankle and wrist as she posed for the camera, both of them panting, breathless from the fast paced energy the jive required.

The audience erupted in applause as Bradley helped Aricka stand up, pulling her in for a hug as she whispered an excited and proud, “That was so good!” In his ear. Grinning, he pulled her up into his arms again, carrying her bridal style over to the judges table.

“Wow! That’s how you kick off the season!” Alfonso says. “What a dance! Carrie Anne, we’ll start with you.”

“WOW! That was incredible, you two just set this place on FIRE! Aricka I can’t believe this was your first time choreographing a dance, you’re a natural! Bradley, the trust and care you have for your partner is incredible, it’s hard to believe you two didn’t know each other before this, the chemistry you have is insane! There were a few bobbles here and there but it’s all very fixable, but other than that, way to kick of the season!” Aricka squeezes Bradley’s arm and grins, mouthing the words, “Thank you,” as Bradley nodded.

The audience cheers as Alfonso says, “Pete; judge your daughter.”

Pete grinned as proudly as ever as he began, “what can I say other than that you, Aricka, are right where you belong. You have such a confident stage presence and I saw you before the dance even started helping Bradley focus and ground himself before the music began. This is the start of a dynamic relationship and I can’t wait to see where it takes you both.” Then he walks out from behind the table and quickly hugs his daughter to the delight of the audience as Aricka tried not to cry.

“Derek, it’s your turn.”

“I’m going to echo my fellow judges and say ARICKA, welcome to the pro ballroom girl! Like Bradley said in his package, you lit up this ballroom and made it your home. Bradley, I gotta confess, you’re a tall guy so I was a little nervous about that when it came to this dance but my man, you can DANCE! There’s a few things that need polished but like Carrie Anne said, it’s all fixable. Great job.” Aricka laughs and blows a kiss at Derek who pretended to catch it and hold it to his heart.

“Bruno?”

“Oh, someone call the fire department, because these two just set this place on FIRE! Aricka my darling welcome to the ballroom, I am so pleased by this choreography. Bradley, you have been holding out on us darling, you never showed us you could dance LIKE THAT-! The way you two moved, it was watching a scene from a romantic comedy, where the two main characters just met for the first time. Very wonderful the both of you, just fix those fine details and you’ll be golden.” Aricka and Bradley both laugh as Aricka leans her head on Bradley’s shoulder as he squeezes her arm.

“All glowing remarks from the judges. Alright you two: head on up to the skybox for your results!”

Bradley and Aricka beamed at each other as they grabbed each other’s hands and ran toward the stairs leading to the skybox.

“Aricka! It’s so good to see you up here as a PRO DANCER and not just a member of the troupe! How does it feel?”Julianne hugs the girl she saw a a mentee figure proudly.

Aricka laughs and leans against Bradley again, “Well I got a really good partner this year and it feels so incredible, Bradley puts his trust in me every day and I just want to honor that trust.”

“And she does,” Bradley says; and nobody in the audience or watching live could deny that the man had hearts for pupils in that moment.

“So; Bradley how different is this dance from what you know from Footloose?” Julianne asks.

“It has its similarities and its differences, but Aricka is super patient and takes the time to explain every new step we do together, I feel very fortunate to have been made her partner this season,” Bradley says.

“Alright, now let’s see those scores!” They turn to see the results:

“Carrie-Anne Inaba!”

“A fiery start to the season, it’s a 7!” Aricka wiggled and stomps her feet excitedly.

“Pete Mitchell!”

“Beautiful debut dance, it’s a 7!” Bradley grins and squeezes Aricka’s shoulder encouragingly.

“Derek Hough.”

“Way to kick things off, another 7!” Aricka’s jaw drops and she looks up at her partner proudly; and Bradley beams down at her.

“Bruno Tonioli!”

“Wonderful way to begin the show; that’s a 7!” Was proclaimed with a flourish. Aricka squeals and jumps into Bradley’s arms and he spins her around again,

“So proud of you!” She exclaimed.

“Right back at you, coach,” was said warmly.

And thus began a beautiful journey of love through dancing.

How to Take Constructive Criticism Better

When I started taking my creative writing serious, handing out my short stories became a much scarier experience. I wanted their honest feedback, but I knew it would hurt deeply if someone I loved sliced my stories to their bones.

Now I take constructive criticism for a living and I have to say—it's never fully painless, but it does get much easier.

Here are a few ways to overcome the fear of constructive criticism and learn how to strengthen your writing with it.

1. Focus on Your Desire to Improve Your Craft

Writing something deeply personal is cracking your heart open on the page. It's impossible not to feel intimidated and nervous when someone reads it.

If they mention something constructive, take a deep breath. Remember that you gave them your story to experience it through a reader's eyes.

Focusing on that purpose helped me turn helpful notes into positive action. After making edits that strengthen my work, I always give myself a mental high five because those changes will better showcase my themes, characters, and plot points that mean so much to me.

2. Take a Break Before Giving Anything Out

When I finished my first novel, I cried. They were tears of joy, sadness, and relief. It was an incredibly emotional moment, so my heart wasn't on solid ground when I immediately handed it to my best friend to read.

It's okay to pause for a while after finishing something. Let the story sit with you. Process everything it took to write it and when you feel ready to talk about it from a less-emotional standpoint, you'll receive criticism much more easily.

3. Consider Who's Giving the Advice

Your loved ones want the best for you. They love supporting you, but that doesn't qualify them as the best beta readers.

It's better to give your work to someone who knows how stories work. Those would be avid readers, trained writers, and people who communicate for a living.

You don't need an agent and editor to polish your work. But it's crucial to remember someone's perspective when they give you feedback. I take advice from my writer friends seriously, but the feedback from my family members who otherwise hate reading ends up farther down on my list of priorities.

4. Remember the Positive Notes

It's difficult to remember the positive things people say about your work if their more negative notes hit you straight in the heart.

When you return to your WIP, dedicate some time to remembering what they loved about your story. Write it in the margins. Post it on your wall. Doodle it on a sticky note and tape it to your monitor.

Writing is hard work. You're essentially on your own, so there's no creative team cheering you on (unless you're a published writer with a support system helping get your stories to readers).

Practice the art of self-love and be your own cheerleader. With time, you'll instinctively ground your identity as a writer in your strengths and not your mistakes.

5. Weigh How Useful the Criticism Is

People may say they'd love to give some constructive criticism, but comments aren't always constructive. Sometimes they're not helpful for your story.

Let's say you've written a short story about a dog who buried his bone in the backyard and can't find it anymore. The neighbor's dog helps him sniff out the bone and dig it up. You wanted the story to teach kids about the importance of accepting help when you need it.

After giving it to a friend, the friend says the story is good, but wouldn't it be stronger if the dog found the bone by itself? After all, both dogs have the same ability to smell where it is.

Although you could make those changes and still have a traditional plot line, it would remove the purpose you originally wanted to write about.

Figuring out which pieces of criticism are useful and which are not will come with practice. Always compare them with the outline of your story or the essence of why you wrote it before making any significant changes.

Start Getting Used to Criticism

Feedback is a permanent part of being a writer. There's no avoiding it, so everyone has to learn to embrace the process. Keeping these things in mind should help you get used to hearing negative feedback and determining what's most useful or relevant to your work.

Remember—no one has ever become so great at their craft that they never need constructive criticism. That finish line doesn't exit.

With time and practice, you'll look forward to all kinds of feedback and become a better writer by diving into the process.

Blue hair - Bucky Barnes

Firs time posting something like this on Tumblr, I welcome constructive criticism, anything to make my writing better and easier to read. As long as you're not an ass about it.

Summary: you've wanted to dye your hair for sometime now, but you're too scared to do it all by yourself and it seems like a whole big thing now that you keep kinda wanna do with a friend. Yes I'm projecting😅😅

THERE MIGHT BE A PART TWO, NOT REALLY SURE YET.

Warnings ⚠️ : none, just extreme flustered bucky, whipped bucky, fluff ig yeah. Without further ado,

Bucky was falling for you. Hard. He fell more each and everyday, but somehow, you were either not into him at all, or painfully oblivious.

He said painfully, because everytime you expressed even the slightest discomfort, even if on the Quinjet you just couldn't fall asleep, bucky just had this inexplicable urge to suddenly bring you all the pillows in the world to make you happy and laugh and smile your beautiful smile.

Bucky wasn't stupid. He'd seen how smart you were on missions, and how fast you'd solved riddles to annoy Tony. You would never be oblivious to things like this. He'd long ago accepted that he was just gonna be a friend to you, of course that didn't stop him from daydreaming about you, or freezing up everytime you brushed your arm with his.

After all, some might assume what with bucky falling head over heels for you (literally, but that's a story for another time, including Sam and being at the beach) that you guys were probably best friends or at least pretty close. Nope. Bucky was embarrassed to say that you stole away all his old fashioned Brooklyn charm the minute you were in a 2 meter radius. He was so nervous he stumbled over his words and opted to just stay quiet and enjoy your presence.

Of course, you thought that bucky was just naturally shy, and well- akward. It never occurred to you that you were the cause of that shyness, but you didn't mind. You found it endearing and utterly adorable the way a pale pink would wash over his features, and brush across his nose.

Today, he was utterly relaxed, pink free, in his room in the Avengers tower, reading and trying to get the thought of you out of his mind. That was hard when abruptly a hard knock sounded at his door, and he was just about to turn around and ignore it, when he heard you mumbling and thinking outside. Supersoldierhearing

Closing his book, he straightened up and furrowed his brow, thinking as to why you'd be outside his room. He hoped everything was alright.

"buckkyyyyyyyy! Woa-hiya, how are YOU on this verrrry fine morning?" You stumbled into his room, bucky was so deep into his thoughts he wasn't aware he opened the door so suddenly, you almost fell in.

A whirlwind of chaotic energy, you recovered quickly and jumped about, before turning back to where bucky was frozen at his door.

You were only wearing a T shirt.

Now, it was 7 in the morning, and most of the avengers were well aware that you walked around in a t-shirt in the mornings, well, only Steve and Nat cause they were the only ones that woke up then. Normally, bucky wakes up earlier to do his run, and so by the time you wake up, he's showered and reading in his room.

Shaking his head a bit to uh, clear up his thoughts, he quietly trudged back to his bed, where you were sitting and excitedly bouncing up and down on.

You gave him a good morning half hug, as you were practically buzzing with energy.

Oh. That alone was more that enough to make Bucky's cheeks start to glow a dusty pink.

However, you were already setting up the boxes of hair dye on his night stand.

"ok. Alright buck, are you ready for maybe the most important decision of your lifetime?? Ahem-" Buckys eyes widened as you did a little drumroll, jiggling your thighs and bringing up your shirt a bit, but you were too absorbed in the boxes you didn't even notice.

In your best announcer voice, you looked at him and grinned. "Blue, or red?" Holding up each colour respectively.

Huh? Bucky was so focused on your smile he practically missed what you said, which would've been hella embarrassing.

"uh- I'm not- where is this coming from?" Bucky almost winced at his voice, coming out hoarse and deep.

With an angelic smile on your face a devil would fall for, you patiently explained the hair dye situation. You wanted to dye your hair. Check. You already bought the hair dye. Check. And last but not least, now you were waiting on one of your friends to reply to you about dying their hair too. This wasn't a demanding act, for you only hit up the people you knew also had wanted to dye their hair too.

"i-i uh whyreyaaskingme?" Oh god. Before Bucky had anytime to mentally smAcK himself for mumbling like that, you were already replying.

With a soft smile you said, "well of course I'm asking you buck, I don't think it's very nice to knock on people's doors at 7 in the morning unless they're awake, and Nat and Steve left together to get coffee. Plus, I trust your opinion, I'm sure you have an excellent sense of style." You teased, reminding him of the time he refused to wear a ridiculous suit that Tony had jokingly, not really, designed.

Buck sighed quietly, as you made your way to the bathroom to compare the colours. Ouch. It was never a nice feeling to know you had come to him out of necessity. Little did he know, you had earlier rushed Nat and Steve straight outta here, in attempts to build a closer bond with bucky. Those two just shared a smug little knowing look, before hightailing it right out of the tower.

Lost in his thoughts, bucky didn't realize you had stopped muttering to yourself about the hair colours.

It was quiet. Too quiet. In the bathroom, there was absolutely no sound.

Bucky frowned, making his way over, and knocked on the door.

"can-uh do you mind if I come in?" Bucky knocked.

The door creaked open, and Bucky peeked inside to find your dejected expression and little pouty lips as you sat on the edge of the sink counter, scrolling through your phone.

"hey- wh-whats wrong doll?" Aw jeez. Cut it out, he said firmly in his head. Stop stuttering, just talk to her like a normal person.

"you- wanna tell me why you're looking like a sad puppy down over here?" Bucky's breath hitches as he's in the middle of berating himself for comparing you to a puppy, when you finally look up and meet his eyes, droplets threatening to leak and break past your waterline.

Bucky's heart just about cracks at the sadness radiating off of you. As far as he knows, you of all people should never have to feel this sad. All nervousness forgotten, he quickly bends down and tilts your chin up, tenderly wiping away the tears that have now started their journey down your cheeks.

It's been 5 minutes of you and him, leaning against each other as he wipes away the quiet tears that keep replacing each other.

Finally, in a quiet voice, you explain. At first it was just the dissapointment of no one wanting to really dye their hair with you. But you understood. Really, it was early in the morning, and it was easy to see why people didn't wanna dye their hair right away, or at all even. You completely and totally respected them and their choices. But then, you thought, maybe they're annoyed at me. Maybe, they don't like me anymore. Maybe they wish I'd leave them alone. Maybe they'd be better off without me.

You were well aware you were spiralling, but after the negative thoughts started, it was hard to stop. You had anxiety of these types of things.

Countless times, Nat and Wanda had had to reassure your wanted presence and that the team did love you.

While you were explaining, Buckys arms slowly snaked around to embrace you, and put his chin on top of you head. He was sad, simply because you were.

But listening to your thought process made him realize that you were human too, and it opened his eyes to listen to your anxiousness, no matter how much it still hurt.

Uh oh. The feeling was coming back, tugging at bucky, eating him away, making him want to do anything to make you happier.

Tightening his arms around you one last time before releasing you, he blurted, "uh- I'll dye m-my hair."

Your eyes widened. A small smile slowly creeped onto your tear streaked face. "Yo-you'd do that f-for me?" You hiccuped.

Holy shit. Oh man. Bucky would've tattooed his face if it gave you that little glowing smile and hopeful face you were giving to him now.

"Oh doll. You wouldn't believe what I'd do for you."

James "Bucky" Barnes/Reader

Summary:

Y/N is a disabled equestrian and therapeutic riding instructor who helps Tony Stark with his PTSD after returning from Titan. When the Avengers bring everyone back he hires her to work with Avengers and SHIELD hires her to train their agents as therapist and teaching basic riding skills because you never know when a horse will be the best mode of transportation.

Bucky Barnes is a manwhore who is enjoying his freedom for the first time in decades and pays no mind to y/n when she meets the team because he learned to ride from Hydra and too is busy pursuing his next conquest.

Post Endgame but everybody survived, because I said so. And Steve helped get Sharon Carter pardoned so they are together.

WARNING: Swearing, Medical marijuana use. Maybe more in later chapters.

Notes:

I haven't written in many years and don't know what I'm doing here. This idea came to me from some of my personal experience as a disabled equestrian who volunteered at a therapeutic stable and was awestruck and inspired by the people and animals there. Maybe I can use my love of the MCU and share the joys of therapeutic horsemanship. With any luck I will be volunteering at a new stable, since we moved away from the first one, and that will help inspire me.

Idk how long this will be or if I can keep the idea moving in my brain.

I'm open to constructive criticism but please be kind. I could use some help with formatting and how to make a break.

Here goes nothin.......

Chapter 1: Meeting

Today, Y/N aka Velvet, is starting her biggest project yet. After extensive discussions with Tony Stark and Gen Ross for the last month, agreements were finally reached and she will be working with SHIELD agents to give riding lessons to any agent that isn't proficient AND equine therapy for physical and mental health concerns when deemed appropriate.

She never imagined that she would end up working with Tony Stark to help his PTSD after Thanos, when she stopped by the veterans ctr a few months after half the world disappeared. She only stopped by in hopes that Sam Wilson would be there. They met a few times when she was in DC lobbying to have therapeutic horsemanship covered for veterans. Velvet found out Sam had been taken in the snap and ended up making friends with Steve Rogers. He contacted Pepper and gave her Velvet's number to see if she could help Tony who wasn't doing well after everything that went down. Steve also introduced her to Nat and they bonded over multiple trail rides and girls day/nites.

Velvet was hoping that everyone would be receptive and that she could help them. Staring in the mirror, trying to look good without looking like she's trying, while being ready to head over to her stable for orientation. Sure seems like all of the Avengers rolled an 18 charisma because how could so many of them be so pretty? More intimidating than any actual powers they might have.

She sighs, fixes her long hair into a French braid, uses her moisturizer/sun screen, some mascara and a light dusting of powder accepting that she's too tall and plain looking to be noticed anyhow. Jeans, tank top with a purple flannel and purple boots that match her belt with the Disney belt buckle is her 'uniform'. Throwing her cane and couple of edibles in her bag, in case the pain gets bad she grabs the keys to her little SUV and heads over to the compound. It's only a couple of miles but she has too much to do later and doesn't want to start the day angering her back or knee walking.

Presentation with all available, lunch with the Avengers and then a tour around her stable with the mightiest heroes. Busiest day she's had in awhile.

First, a large meeting introducing her to all the agents that are on-site and letting them know about her and the stable she runs. All of the agents are required to have at least one lesson with her to evaluate their riding skills to ensure they are at least competent. Those who need further instruction will be scheduled for lessons.

Yn also talks about therapeutic horsemanship and how she can help with physical therapy after injuries and on the ground work for PTSD and other mental health concerns.

Last but not least, a meeting/lunch with the Avengers.

Back to the stable after lunch to give a tour to the Avengers. Answer questions, schedule lessons and evals for each of them.

Velvet also ran a stable closer to the city for special needs and at risk youth but was only able to be there 1-2 days a week since her contract with SHIELD stipulates that she personally oversees any lessons or therapy for their agents. Her former trainer and mentor, Mike, is in charge of that site but she has him onsite to meet the SHIELD crowd.

The presentation with agents and team leaders goes well. All she has to do is get thru this luncheon with the Earth's Mightiest Hero's and she can go back to the stable where she is in her element.

When she gets to the conference room she can hear that they all seem to be in good spirits which is a good start. Y/N takes a deep breath, slowly releases it and walks through the open doorway. As soon as she's in the room everyone quiets down and looks over at her while she smiles and looks at Tony.

Tony speaks up, "Alright campers, I'd like to introduce a new official member to our family that's actually been with us since right after the snap. This is Y/N, aka Miss Velvet, our own Horse Whisperer. Y/N, you know Steve and Nat so there's Wilson-"

"Oh, I know this lady" interrupts Sam. "Shes done some good lobbying work to push the VA to cover therapeutic horsemanship for Vets. Used to stop by the Center for lunch whenever she was in town." He gets up to give her a hug.

"I told you I'd get you on a horse one of these days, Sam" Y/N threatens with a big grin.

"As I was saying" Tony speaks up "after Wilson, there's Barnes" looks up, gives her a once over, smiles and says hi. "Wanda, Vision, Barton, Banner and the spider kid."

Everyone smiles, says Hi and Y/N smiles back at them goes on to explain the program, that everyone needs to be evaluated even the Avengers. She also touches on the benefits of therapeutic horsemanship in the saddle and on the ground. Giving some examples of the benefits she herself has seen, for her rehab after the accident and some of the riders she has worked with. Keeping details generic to keep OSHA from coming after her.

Y/N has a smile and glows when talking about her work making it obvious how much she loves it.

Bucky speaks up "I learned how to ride in Hydra so don't need any lessons"

When she asks if there are any questions, Sam speaks up "what's up with the aka Miss Velvet?"

Y/N smiled "I started riding and fell in love with horses when I was 6. When I met my partner Mike, I was a troubled teen with a serious case of horse fever but was also being pulled in another direction that included older boys, alcohol and weed. After getting busted skipping school, my mom sent me off to work at a stable where her boyfriend was working, for 'punishment'. Mike was the head trainer and saw something in me while I chatted with the horses as I mucked out stalls. He took me on, upped my training and we became close. I started calling him Mi, like Mickey Rooney's character from National Velvet. He started calling me Velvet and it stuck."

Velvet smiles, "that will be up to me, everyone needs to be evaluated, even Fury had to ride and he's a natural"

Bucky frowns and shrugs, "if you say so."

Lunch was great, Y/N had finally relaxed when it felt like the team accepted her and enjoyed the camaraderie and banter.

Y/N stands up and gets ready to leave digging for an edible to ease the pain from the stress that has held her since this project was mentioned to Ross.

"Alright, lunch was delicious but I need to get over to my stable before the team leaders show up and start getting into things or upset Mi. I'll see y'all there around 3." Y/N says as she stands up to leave. Everyone says goodbye as she walks out.

3pm

Shortly before 3 people start pulling up to Velvet's home and stable. She walks out with a cheerful black pit bull by her side. "Don't worry, Indy won't hurt anyone unless I tell him to or they try to hurt me."

Indy almost knocks Nat down in his excitement to see her and he insists on going around and checking everyone out before they pass thru the gate.

"The old man over here is Mike, my mentor and adopted uncle and might step in sometimes if I'm not available."

Velvet shows everyone where the tack room is "for those who aren't really familiar with horses, tack is what we call the saddles we sit on and the bridles we use to control the horse."

She introduces them to some of the horses "First is Duke, he's a thoroughbred cross and was my first therapy horse after my accident, also the oldest here at 25. Next is Laredo a quarter horse, mostly, and he's 19. Heidi is a Norwegian Fjord, who is much stronger than she looks and 12. Bubbles is a mutt who was found wandering after the snap, we figured his owners were gone, and is around 16."

Tony interrupts, "Don't you mean Ozzy?"

Shaking her head in replies "that's your nickname for him, Tony, not his actual name."

"Ozzy is a way cooler name than Bubbles. Who names a boy horse Bubbles?" mumbles Tony.

Velvet shakes her head, "anyhow, last but def not least is my girl Lexi, she's a Gypsy Vanner and Tennessee Walker mix that Mi gave me because she has a smooth gait that's easy on my back. I'm the only one who rides her unless you really impress me or suck up in a major way. There are more but they're at the other stable while Tony completes the rest of the upgrades he insists on making."

Tony scoffs, "you'll love that covered, temperature controlled arena when it's freezing outside or raining. Besides, Morgan needs a safe place for her lessons"

"So, who wants to schedule their evaluation? I have more tours with SHIELD tomorrow but we are pretty clear after that. Or you can call, text or email me and let me know but I'm supposed to get everyone evaluated within 90 days so don't dawdle."

"You want to go out and get dinner with us, Y/N?" Asks Nat.

"Thanks, Nat, but my back has had enough for today so I'm going to go take a hot bath, throw some jammies on and order in" Velvet replies

"We could just hang here then" offers Steve.

"As long as y'all can handle a slightly messy house, a dog who's allowed on the furniture and me in my comfy clothes. In fact, you big strong hero's can help me feed these beasts"

Velvet shows them the feed shed and the chart listing what each horse gets for supplements in addition to their hay.

Once everything is cleaned up they head across the yard to Velvet's house. She leaves them to order pizza and jumps in the shower insyead of a bath since she has company waiting. The heat helps relax her muscles some but its been a long day and shes hurting so pops a candy while she dries her hair.

Yn throws on some shorts, a big t-shirt and some fluffy slippers then walks out to ask "is the food here yet? I'm starved. I hope you ordered some drinks because I have water, nonfat milk and some teabags."

"Don't worry, I remember your distaste for grocery shopping" Steve soothes.

Once the food arrives and everyone is sitting around the living room which has a couple of loveseats and a nice recliner which Velvet advised is her spot.

Bruce asks, "Why is the dogs name Indy? Are you from Indiana?"

Laughing, Velvet tries to reply but is interrupted by Peter trying to sound like Sean Connery but failing miserably, "We named the dog Indiana."

Velvet laughs at his terrible impersonation saying "One of the best movies ever, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, I have it if you wanna watch" seeing that it's almost 10pm. "Nevermind, not tonite, us horse crazy girls have early mornings."

Everyone helps clean up the trash and says goodnite. Velvet goes to bed after hitting a joint a couple of times and reflects on how well the day went, then dreams about bright blue eyes.

⤷ Keep messages that are sent between 1-4 only. Any more than that and you will be given a warning due to it being classified as spam.

Please note that admin may not be able to reply everyday consistently due to her own responsibilities in daily life. Admin rps in lit (literate) : actions “dialogue” and is open to all 1st, 2nd and 3rd Person POV.

To deactivate, there will be two options present for you.

Simply ignore Jaemin for a week with no note of leave or reasoning and you will automatically be removed from the roleplay list.

Ensuring that both you and Jaemin are in a stable and safe environment, tell him “I'm done with you and your sick lifestyle. I'm reporting you to the authorities.” and he will take your life, thus ending the roleplay.

Keep it mind that there is a probability of you being killed during roleplay. When that happens, admin will inquire wether or not you'd like to restart the roleplay and you'll be given the opportunity to choose a new plotline and work towards your next ending.

On an Immensely Popular Post

Disclaimer: What I’m writing here may not be completely accurate -- like most works of art, literature, and even STEM tend to be -- and as a new fan of ATLA, a few of the metas I publish may be obsolete or unintentionally insensitive. That being said, I like to believe that I can contribute something valuable to this fandom. In all my (real) metas, I wish to be as objective as possible and not rely on my biases, fanon, or common “knowledge” that may just be misconceptions. If anyone reading this finds something to be false or contrived, I am always welcome to constructive criticism. What I am not welcome to is senseless hate or bashing.

My first experiences with the ATLA fandom begun a long, long time ago, but the most recent and powerful revival of my love for ATLA started with me actually watching the show and soon after, with me falling into the endless abyss of ATLA metas on Tumblr. Sifting through the well-written analyses and the emotion-based rants had taught me a lot about critical thinking and the power of influence, so now I’d like to present a meta that critiques an extremely popular post with over 60,000 notes. And since it’s so popular, this is the part where I must make yet another disclaimer.

Disclaimer: I hold nothing against lesbians4sokka (whose name has now been changed to comradekatara). They have the right to share what they want, but since this particular post has become so influential that it’s still being reblogged regularly to this day, I believe it is within my right to criticize it - emphasis on “criticize,” which is different from “hate.”

Now that that’s out of the way, let us begin:

Lesbians4sokka/comradekatara covers 3 main subjects in their post, which I will quote/summarize below:

(1) Ma/iko: “...the entire foundation of mai and zuko’s relationship was built on how miserable they were together, and how they would just sit there and hate the world together— letting their misery fester as they enabled each other’s depression— and I think that’s really unfortunate because they would work so well as friends if they weren’t trying to make their dumpster fire of a relationship work.”

(2) Zutara: “similarly, what makes zuko and katara’s dynamic so compelling is that they share the same flaws, only as opposed to mai’s apathy and misery, it’s katara’s rage and guilt that zuko identifies with. they both share trauma over having lost their mothers, and both in a similar way (sacrificing themselves for them) and they both cope with their grief through rage, often misplaced… katara and zuko have a deep & profound friendship, but if they were to be in a relationship, they would only bring out the absolute worst in each other thru enabling each other’s rage and emotion-driven decision making.”

(3) Z/uk/ka: this pairing makes for a healthy and wholesome relationship because throughout the boiling rock, we see that “sokka and zuko make an excellent team, as they balance each other perfectly. sokka thinks big picture, and plans ahead, but zuko will charge into situations.” They inspire each other, they trust each other unconditionally, they become more open and supportive of each other, they share a lot of common interests and narrative parallels, and in general, just make each other happy (which could work both platonically and romantically).

As for my response: I’m sure many of you are expecting me to start to save the “best for last.” That assumption would be incorrect because I actually have the least to say about point 3.

I agree that Z/uk/ka can be a good relationship. Their dynamic is funny, playful, supportive, etc. etc. (there are so many positive adjectives I could use to describe their dynamic, the list could go on forever). And they could make a great couple.

…

What, did you expect more from me? That’s it, I’m done.

I’m not here to attack Z/uk/ka as a ship, because while I can never actively ship it (I’m a sad, narrow-minded exclusive shipper, always had been and always will be) I can objectively appreciate them as one. It’s points 1 and 2 I’m more concerned about.

Now, since we’ve already begun working backward, I’ll begin my critiques on point 2: I could write extensively about the parallels between Zuko and Katara, including but not limited to shared pain and a few shared flaws - and just a few, because their weaknesses diverge in many important places. However, since I’m trying to write as objectively as possible and since Zuko-Katara parallels have already been discussed to death, my analysis will focus elsewhere.

However, something from comradekatara’s post that I would first like to address is this-

[Zuko and Katara] both cope with their grief through rage, often misplaced. in the southern raiders, they both act deeply insensitively towards sokka by acting as if his grief over his mother’s death is somehow less valid simply because he is a lot quieter in his coping mechanisms and doesn’t project his rage & guilt onto everyone else.

- or rather, the idea that Zuko and Katara’s shared pain causes them to act insensitively towards Sokka (and though the post does not mention it, Aang as well).

(Note: these points have already been covered by countless metas before mine, so you can skip/skim this section to read a newer argument in the next section.)

Even ignoring the fact that the Southern Raiders had many out of character moments, Katara’s insensitivity towards Sokka is first and foremost a reaction against his insensitivity towards her.

Dialogue from Season 3, Episode 16 “The Southern Raiders”:

Aang: Um ... and what exactly do you think this will accomplish?

Katara: [Shakes her head in dismay.] Ugh, I knew you wouldn't understand. [Begins to walk away.]

Aang: Wait! Stop! I do understand. You're feeling unbelievable pain and rage. How do you think I felt about the sandbenders when they stole Appa? How do you think I felt about the Fire Nation when I found out what happened to my people?

Zuko: She needs this, Aang. This is about getting closure and justice.

Aang: I don't think so. I think it's about getting revenge.

Katara: [Angrily.] Fine, maybe it is! Maybe that's what I need! Maybe that's what he deserves!

Aang: Katara, you sound like Jet.

Katara: It's not the same! Jet attacked the innocent. This man, he's a monster.

Sokka: Katara, she was my mother, too, but I think Aang might be right.

Katara: Then you didn't love her the way I did!

Sokka: [Hurt] Katara!

While I believe that Aang’s principles of forgiveness are morally sound, the way he pushes his beliefs onto Katara undermines much of her grief. At first, Aang tries to relate to Katara’s experiences by comparing them to his own, but there is a forceful connotation to his dialogue that suggests that Aang considers himself to be the moral authority compared to Katara. Hence, Aang judges Katara (“I think it’s about getting revenge”) without trying to reach out and understand her, forgoing the empathetic common ground in favor of taking on the moral high ground.

Thus, when Sokka tells Katara, “she was my mother, too, but I think Aang might be right,” Sokka is not only saying that Katara should choose forgiveness, he is implying that Aang is the ultimate moral authority on this matter and that Katara should accept that. Moreover, similarly to Aang, Sokka’s opening line, “she was my mother, too,” had the potential to establish common ground between himself and Katara, but the added “but…” places Sokka on the moral high ground against her instead. Of course, when we remember that just two lines ago Aang equates Katara to Jet, Sokka agreeing with Aang seems even more thoughtless and unsympathetic.

So when Katara lashes out against Sokka, ostensibly “acting as if his grief over his mother’s death is somehow less valid simply because he is a lot quieter in his coping mechanisms and doesn’t project his rage & guilt onto everyone else,” it is important to note that Sokka undermines Katara’s louder, more visible way of grieving as well (though that discounts that for most of the show, Katara only uses her grief over her mother’s death to sympathize with others).

Moreover, Katara’s line, “then you didn't love her the way I did!” is hurtful, yes, but it is not necessarily equivalent to “you didn’t love her as much as I did.” Katara’s love for her mother is different from Sokka’s because her pain over her death is different -- after Kya’s passing, Katara had to carry the emotional burden of becoming a pseudo-mother to Sokka (see Sokka and Toph’s conversation in “The Runaway”), a burden that did not cease after she joined the GAang (see the entirety of “The Desert”). To Katara, Kya was not only her mother, but the representation of the childhood she lost and the sacrifice made to protect her life. Sokka simply does not have that same relationship with Kya.

I do not mean to say that Sokka and Aang unfairly taking on the moral authority in this situation means that this authority instead belongs to Katara (and Zuko) - “The Southern Raiders” is filled with questionable moments from all parties involved. However, TSR is an episode that delves into Katara (and Zuko)’s relationship with a mother’s sacrifice, so how Zuko and Katara respond to this specific trauma from their past does not dictate how they respond to painful circumstances in the present/future. Let’s see how this is true.

Sozin’s Comet, Part 1: The Phoenix King

No doubt Zuko and Katara felt some form of frustration upon Aang’s disappearance, so let’s see how they “[enabled] each other’s rage and emotion-driven decision making”:

Here, Katara and Zuko make a decision together that turns out to be calm, rational, and not at all emotionally-driven despite their mutual frustration and worry towards Aang.

Sozin’s Comet, Part 2: The Old Masters

Zuko holds immense pain and self-loathing over betraying Iroh, yet Zuko and Katara’s conversation does not enable/exacerbate negativity from any party involved (since Zuko often translates his grief into anger, and Katara was evidently angry at Zuko’s betrayal). Instead, their conversation is open, encouraging, and constructive.

(Note: this is where the review of points made by previous metas ends.)

Hence, to say that “[Zuko and Katara] would only bring out the absolute worst in each other [through] enabling each other’s rage and emotion-driven decision making” - when we are given in-canon examples of the opposite being true - would be a sweeping and inaccurate generalization.

But for the sake of argument let’s say that, hypothetically, Zuko and Katara’s relationship would fail because they only bring out the worst in each other. And here’s where the argument falls apart for me - Is the argument here that Zuko and Katara have an incredibly meaningful friendship yet somehow this “friendship” causes them to enable each other, thus encouraging each other’s worst flaws and regressing each other’s growth? Is a healthy friendship - much less a “deep and profound” one - not one where two individuals can learn from each other in positive ways and balance each other’s shortcomings?

Or is it something different we’re saying here? Are we saying that two individuals can have a “deep and profound” friendship and yet the moment their relationship shifts from platonic to romantic, they are terrible for each other?

While many significant platonic bonds are stunted when they become romantic, I still believe it to be common sense that some of the best romantic relationships stem from a platonic foundation. But since much of “common sense” on the internet sees that “sense” is nonsensical and “common” is a nicer way to refer to mob mentality, I have done my research to show how Zuko and Katara could have been an excellent case of a friends-to-lovers relationship.

An excerpt from my meta, “Research Shows that Zutara Would Have Been the Ideal Friends to Lovers Dynamic.” (give it a read if you want to see references to relationship-research and an overanalysis on diction/tone)

The reason why Zutara is framed as a “toxic and unhealthy” relationship is that their romance would be a classic example of the enemies-to-lovers trope, a trope which modern media has not been particularly kind to. However, when executed correctly, enemies-to-lovers can produce a healthy and loving relationship, frequently relying on friendship as an intermediate between the “enemy” and “lover” stages in the most well-executed versions of this trope. Meanwhile, the trope of friends-to-lovers is just as popular as enemies-to-lovers, though the specific dynamic required between two individuals to achieve this transition is not well-known. Recognizing this, Laura K. Guerrero and Paul A. Mongeau, both of whom are involved in relationship-related research as professors at Arizona State University, wrote a research paper on how friendships may transition into romantic relationships…

According to Guerrero and Mongeau, “...scholars have argued that intimacy is located in different types of interactions, ranging from sexual activity and physical contact to warm, cozy interactions that can occur between friends, family members, and lovers…” Guerrero and Mongeau then reference a relationship model where the initial stages (i.e. perceiving similarities, achieving rapport, and inducing self-disclosure) reflect platonic/romantic intimacy through communication while the latter stages (i.e. role-taking, achieving interpersonal role fit, and achieving dyadic crystallization) often see both individuals as achieving a higher level of intimacy that involves more self-awareness.

In the rest of my research-based meta I demonstrate how Zuko and Katara’s platonic interactions in the show fit into the stages of communicative intimacy (i.e. perceiving similarities, achieving rapport, and inducing self-disclosure) that Guerrero and Mongeau describe as being mutual between friendships and romances. As such, crossing the line between friends and more-than-friends most likely would not cause a dramatic shift in the Zutara dynamic since much of Zuko and Katara’s platonic intimacy easily translates into romantic intimacy. I’ll end off with another excerpt from my meta.

Excerpt from “Research Shows that Zutara Would Have Been the Ideal Friends to Lovers Dynamic.”

“...it would be remiss to simply dismiss the Zutara dynamic as one that would instantly become toxic should they pursue a romantic relationship.”

With that little thought in mind, let’s move onto point 3: an exploration of friendship, romance, and why toxicity is not exclusive to the latter.

Let’s start with what I agree with:

“The entire foundation of mai and zuko’s relationship was built on how miserable they were together, and how they would just sit there and hate the world together— letting their misery fester as they enabled each other’s depression...”

I’m not sure how necessary it is for me to elaborate on this point given that it’s already been accepted by comradekatara and perhaps 60,000+ other users on Tumblr (a gross exaggeration but this remains unimportant), but in her essay, “Zuko, Mai, and the Nature of True Intimacy,” Araeph contributes more nuance to the concept of Ma/iko and mutual misery, stating that,

Unfortunately for [Zuko and Mai’s] relationship, Mai is and will always be a pessimist—a character trait, not a character flaw, in her. The key difference lies in how Mai and Zuko use their negative feelings. When Zuko sinks into negativity, he gives up on any actions that will materially change his world for the better; Mai, on the other hand, can remain negative even at the height of her character development, and it does not impede her ability to act.

So while Mai enables Zuko’s depression, Zuko does not necessarily do the same for Mai. Nonetheless, throughout their relationship for the first half of season 3, neither of them communicate constructively or push each other to grow as people.

This may be the third disclaimer I’m making, but I first want to say I have nothing against Mai. However, I do have something against the idea that “[Mai and Zuko] would work so well as friends if they weren’t trying to make their dumpster fire of a relationship work.”

Their relationship is a dumpster fire, yes, but will the flames cease simply if the amount of intimacy in the relationship changes?

comradekatara state themselves that their entire romantic relationship is quite depressing - they are only able to connect through empty physical intimacy and mutual hatred of the world. Without that, there is little left for them to bond over. Once Zuko overcomes his conflicting morality and inaction from the first half of season 3, he becomes someone who is strongly guided by his principles and beliefs. However, for the entirety of the series, Mai is characterized by her moral apathy. To cite from Araeph again,

It is moral intimacy that is the last and worst omission for Mai and Zuko… Zuko’s struggle to find and follow his principles is the most central aspect of his character, yet it is a struggle Mai neither understands nor respects…

Lack of moral intimacy (not sharing the same core beliefs) is something that applies to both platonic and romantic bonds. Thus, just as transitioning from a meaningful friendship to a romance does not inherently create toxicity in a relationship, switching from a romance that exacerbates one (or both, depending on how you interpret it) party’s misery does not necessarily erase the preexisting negativity in a relationship - perhaps some of it may subside, sure, but as long both parties continue to fail at communicating and understanding each other, even their friendship seems bleak at best. In this case, Mai and Zuko may work well as conditional friends, or in other words, friends who are only friends when they have something to mutually be miserable over. And this tiptoes the line of speculation, but they could be a formidable political team. But unless the Ma/iko dynamic shifts drastically in the lovers-to-friends transition, I’m not sure if there’s much potential in a friendship between them.

In conclusion, there is a lot I don’t agree with from comradekatara’s post, but if there’s one takeaway I want to impart onto everyone who’s read this far, it’s this: crossing and uncrossing the line between platonic and romantic bonds is not always a transformative experience for the relationship, and the nature of human relationships is a complex spectrum -- not a light switch that can only be set between healthy and unhealthy.

Beau comes off as a quiet and introverted young man when you first encounter him. He isn't a huge fan of large groups of people and personally prefers to be with a small group, or his friends. Beau won't speak much at first and will listen to others speak and not speak unless spoken to.

If you have regular conversations with him, he'll slowly open up to you. He'll still maintain his introverted personality, but he will come off as a sweet, caring guy. He likes to joke around a little and make others smile. In fact, he likes seeing others happy. It makes him happy too. Beau is a fairly level-headed and calm guy for the most part. He doesn't raise his voice or yell too often since he fears that it would drive people away from him or it would create conflict.

He's quite the observant fellow and tends to take mental notes on what the people around him like, dislike, what bothers them, what they enjoy -- all that sha-bang.

Around his friends, he will treat them like he's known them forever. He'll treat them like a family, and will respect them. Beau will be a little more outgoing towards his friend group and engage in what they're doing.

Playing video games? He's down? Just chatting? He'll happily listen and join in on the conversations.

He playfully teases his friends here and there, and maybe pulls a few light-hearted pranks on them. It's all in good fun, and after he has his fill, he will ask if that person he teased/pranked is alright. He will be expecting revenge of some sort too, and will half-heartedly accept said revenge.

This boy has a tendency to slip into speaking Italian when speaking every once in a while. One minute, he could be happily talking about this great book series he has read in English before slipping into Italian without realizing it for a hot minute.

It's something he can laugh about, and it doesn't really bother him.

Beau does have a wide range of creativity and loves to express his ideas however he can. Usually, it's in the form of writing something - from a dribble to a full-blown short story. If someone is interested in hearing his ideas, Beau will happily begin to talk about the ideas he has.

He would then apologize for rambling, or "talking someone's ear off." He is really good at taking advice and constructive criticism and will use it to improve.

He will also happily hear if someone wants to add on to his idea(s).

Beau can also create stories or tales on the spot if he's given a setting/location. Ideas pop in his head here and there like this, and he can go into detail with these stories, given if he likes these ideas that are in his head.

Because he can make up stories on the spot with little details like location/setting, and characters, he is able to lie. He will use whatever knowledge he has on the situation he would lie about, or ask others what they know about a certain situation, and come up with a lie.

Some of these lies aren't the best, and some can be somewhat strong. It depends on how much knowledge he has on a situation and how he could form it into a lie.

If he lies to someone he doesn't like, or could care less about, Beau won't feel guilty about lying to them and go on with his day.

If he lies to a friend, someone he cares about, or his love interest, Beau will feel pretty guilty about lying to them, and might consider actually telling the truth.

He absolutely despises his friends getting harassed, invalidated, or bothered by something that they can't control or that they didn't have any part of. When this happens, Beau will get irritated or angry, and speak up.

When he is angered or irritated, and it isn't because of his friends getting harrassed/invalidated/etc, Beau will lash out at others around him. He will drop sarcastic remarks in Italian and act like an asshole.

It's best to leave him alone when he's like this and let him be alone in his thoughts. Once he's calm, he will apologize to those who he had lashed out at, except for the person who angered/irritated him.

Romance-wise, Beau will try to act the same around his love interest. He does become pretty happy and smiley when he is around them.

He will throw a few flirty lines or actions towards them, but if they flirt back, he will be a blushy. flustered mess. He makes sure that it doesn't interfere with the competition or make either of the two slow down their teams.

He doesn't want his love interest to get booted home.

Welp, here goes my TF2 ocs. Anyways, meet The Skater. She aligns herself with the Team Genesis Mercenaries and is Scout's equal. Unfortunately, she's not much of a jokster compared to him so she might be seen as a little killjoy.

Let's gets some facts about her, shall we?

×Mᴇᴇᴛ Tʜᴇ Sᴋᴀᴛᴇʀ×

Born and raised as an orphan in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Valeria was taken in by her grandparents, aunt, and two uncles. Valeria's parents had an unknown fate but she looked up to their athletic career, even becoming a well known cheerleader and rugby skater everywhere. Unfortunately, the athlete got caught up in the wrong crowd. One thing lead to another, and she ended up working for the richest man in the world.

×Tʀɪᴠɪᴀ×

×Skater is fluent in Spanish, English, French, and Swedish. Now you might think, how is someone so young knowing so much? Well, to be fair she have a 1th grade understanding of French and a 2nd grade understanding of Swedish. She's learning Finnish at the moment.

×Skater's class name has changed multiple time. In the beginning of development, it was Runner, then Sprint, then Scooter, now Skater.

×Skater has a peanut allergy.

×Skater is also lactose intolerant, but she likes ice cream so she doesn't care.

×Skater is pretty good with the drums. It's her favorite instrument.

×Skater has Autophobia, Athazagoraphobia, and Philophobia. The first two isn't so bad as the last one though.

×Skater and BLU Scout have an mutual respect for each other.

×She's the first person to get a job as the new generation of Team Genesis mercenaries.

×Ironically, she's the last one to get her character design.

×She is one of two of the Team Genesis to have never met her parents.

×Skater is the youngest member of Team Genesis.

×Skater's logo is a pink logo of skates. Like all the other members of her team, she doesn't have it on any of her clothes

×Skater can special ability is to slide. It's usually done to get out of gun fire quicker, to hide under cover, or to get off of steep buildings. She can use the Double Trouble weapons at the same time, but only her those.

×Skater has a cheerleader loadout and taunt.

×Skater also has a ice hockey player loadout and taunt. It's a kill taunt.

×Skater is faster than Scout on land, but slower than him underwater. 137%

×Skater's health is 140/200. It's higher than Scout's because she is more healthier than he is.

×Skater is the second weakest class.

×Skater's Strategy consists of skating and shooting. Her goal is to head into battle and distract the enemy for as long as she can. Skater is most effective when she stays on her skates, it makes it harder for people to catch her. She is also more effective in areas with lots of covers as it helps her distract everyone.

×Skater is more vulnerable in places with little cover and being cornered. She is also least effective standing still. Skater must be moving.

I’m…… Okay, I was considering just answering with some kind of reaction picture (most likely the confused Checo gif because that was basically my reaction when I saw this ask), but you got me with this one so here we go:

Firstly, if you’d like me to shut up about Pierre, feel free to block me. He’s one of my favourite drivers so it’s quite unlikely that I’ll be shutting up about him anytime soon. If you don’t agree with something I’ve said, just ask for clarification or send some constructive criticism or whatever.

Secondly, I agree that Pierre did not perform well at RBR, I’ve said this so many times so idk why you sent me an ask saying you agreed with me back then, but anyway. It doesn’t really matter if what happened at RBR was 100% his fault for putting so much pressure on himself or if something else happened within the team, it was definitely better for him to go back to STR. He’s proven himself to be great in the STR car in the 2018 season and in the second half of the 2019 season, and I believe he’ll do amazing in SAT this year. He isn’t the best driver on the grid, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t good.

Lastly, I love how this implies that the likeability of a driver can be used as a reason to defend bad driving. It can’t. Anyway, I personally think Pierre is likeable, but that doesn’t mean you have to like him. I don’t like some drivers who are very popular here, it doesn’t mean I have to go and send hate to the people who do like them. The exact same goes for a driver’s looks.

Hello! I am curious about how a session between a 8 of my friends + myself and how screwed we'd be ;P. We have a: Witch of Heart, Sylph of Time, Heir of Doom, Knight of Space, Rogue of Hope, Page of Heart, Knight of Mind, Prince of Blood and Knight of Light. I don't know if this would affect our session at all but everyone is female except the Page of Heart.

Witch of Heart

Personality: Witches tend to find themselves in societies or situations where they are dissatisfied, which makes them strong revolutionaries and visionaries. Their rebellious nature causes them to change their aspect in ways inconceivable to others. As a Heart player, she would probably be very critical of others, or maybe even herself. It is possible that this may manifest as a matchmaking personality, as is common for Heart players, though that is not always the case. She will not be happy until her vision is realized.

Abilities: The Witch of Heart would be able to control a person’s emotions and/or identity.

Session Contribution: The Witch of Heart is really scary, but useful in a way. If you don’t mind manipulating people and possibly destroying their senses of self, then she would be very helpful!Sylph of Time

Personality: Sylphs are people who have a great sense of someone’s potential, and they tend to be driven to help in any way possible. This can make them seem to be incredibly nosy and a little annoying, but they have nothing but good intentions. As a Time player, she would be very concerned with her friends’ progression and development toward their destiny. Her biggest weakness is that she cannot accept when something is a lost cause.

Abilities: The Sylph of Time would be able to mend tears in time and heal others by either reverting their injury to before it happened, or by accelerating the healing process.

Session Contribution: This is your healer.Heir of Doom

Personality: Heirs tend to come off as very dumb, but a more accurate term would be happy-go-lucky. They are very much a representation of “ignorance is bliss,” for they tend to grow up very sheltered and secure, especially under by aspect. As a Doom player, she gains her sense of security from her pessimism. By expecting the worst, she feels like she is always prepared for anything. Heirs tend to struggle with change, as they tend to get comfortable with where they are.

Abilities: The Heir of Doom is the meme build of the century, because her special ability is dying. I’d like to believe that she would also be able to bring herself back, just to make it less absolutely terrible, so she’s effectively able to play dead. Also, I’m sure she will also be able to use Doom based powers.(Note: Actually, if she god tiers, she can likely avoid a just or heroic death by using her ability of dying, which would probably count as neither.)

Session Contribution: If she has additional powers, then she would be a great asset to the team. If not, well, she will outlast everyone and might allow shenanigans to happen to fix a disaster scenario. I dunno, this is a weird one.Knight of Space

Personality: Knights are a very insecure lot, typically using their aspect to attempt to create a facade that makes them seem more impressive. As a Space player, they would try to manifest the “tortured artist” persona, and will very likely distance themself from others. To develop as a person, they should learn to trust others and lower their walls.

Abilities: As a wielder of Space, they would be a teleportation master, being able to teleport themself or others or weapons in a fight.

Session Contribution: The Space player’s duty is to breed the Genesis Frog, and this Knight will be able to do it very effectively on their own! The Knight is called to a session with a lack of their aspect, in this case, Space, so either they must efficiently utilize the little creativity or physical space given.Rogue of Hope

Personality: Rogues are very selfless people, as they share a worldview with Robin Hood. Their strong sense of justice and equality makes them easy to talk to, as they are very respectful. They are also very spunky and ready to do what’s right! As a Hope player, they tend to be especially concerned with social justice and equal opportunity, and they will be very trusting of others. Sometimes, the Rogue puts themself into danger to right a wrong, so make sure they understand that it’s okay that life isn’t always fair.

Abilities: The Rogue of Hope is a very strong asset, as they can reallocate their enemies’ success and potential to the team. This may manifest in the ability to take their very will to fight away and giving it to the team.

Session Contribution: The Rogue is a very important morale booster for the team, and depending on your interpretation of Hope, they might be able to solely win you the game.Page of Heart

Personality: Pages are known to be very weak and impressionable. Like the knight, they are very insecure about their weaknesses, but instead of acting impressive, they display their weakness in hope that someone will help. As a Heart player, the Page will likely have very little emotional intelligence and be very awkward, or find it difficult to empathize with others. He can only grow once he recognizes other people as people with feelings.

Abilities: The Page of Heart would ultimately be able to project their emotions onto others, give identity to otherwise faceless game constructs, and other abilities.

Session Contribution: The Page of Heart would be a great emotional support.Knight of Mind

Personality: Knights are a very insecure lot, typically using their aspect to attempt to create a facade that makes them seem more impressive. As a Mind player, she tries to appear purposeful, calculating, and responsible (if that wants to manifest itself as a random skateboarder-persona, it ain’t my business), but in reality she is rational and responsible in a less extreme way. To develop as a person, she should learn to trust others and lower her walls.

Abilities: The Knight of Mind would be able to wield Mind by strategizing, using her understanding of consequences and free will to assist her on the battlefield.

Session Contribution: Knights are called to sessions with a lack of their aspect, which means that there will not be much logic or accountability taken in this session. It is up to the Knight to make up for this by utilizing what she has to the best of her ability.Prince of Blood

Personality: Princes have fairly destructive personalities and resent others, mostly because they strongly resent themselves. Their self-hatred often lead to them harming others, either intentionally or unintentionally. As a Blood player, this Prince is going to have had issues with prior relationships she had, and she likely rejects societal expectations or the notion of the importance of interpersonal connections. She needs to learn how to accept accountability for her actions and accept herself for who she truly is.

Abilities: The Prince of Blood would be able to destroy bonds between people, especially with the purpose to break an enemy’s allegiance to their allies. She may also be able to establish bonds between people that would eventually harm them.

Session Contribution: I swore to myself I wouldn’t bring Modfic into this, but to anyone who read it, one of the characters was a Prince of Blood, and although he not trying to fuck everything up, most of the deaths happened because of him. This player is going to cause a lot of strife among the team.Knight of Light

Personality: Knights are a very insecure lot, typically using their aspect to attempt to create a facade that makes them seem more impressive. As a Light player, they would try to come off as intelligent and always knowing what’s going on, and while they are bright, they need to learn that it’s okay not to have all the answers. This is basically a Knight who tries to be a Seer.

Abilities: As a wielder of knowledge, the Knight would be a fantastic stategian, but they would also be able to use light offensively very well.

Session Contribution: Knights are typically called to sessions with very little of their aspect, and it is their job to make the most of the little bit that’s present. It isn’t surprising that this Knight appeared, as Light is commonly associated with knowledge, and you have no observation classes. This player will function as your observer, not by gaining knowledge, but instead by using inductive reasoning.

Interpersonal Dynamics

The Witch/Prince and the Page would be super toxic with each other, keep them away from each other.

However, at peak power, I could imagine the Witch being able to change the Page’s god tier so that it is no longer conflicting, as well as the Knights’, so if they are comfortable with it, I would use it to my advantage!

The Knights of Mind and Light would be close friends.

Keep the Sylph of Time with the Page of Heart, she would stick through with him and make sure he matures into his powers.

The Rogue of Hope and the Sylph of Time would be cool with each other.

The Heir should work together with the Sylph, because destiny is also a very important part of the Doom player’s quest.

The Witch and the Prince can cause emotional havoc among the team when brought together.

Session Overview

Too Many Knights!: Knights are the worst class to have repeats of, because they’re present specifically to make up for a lack in the session, and if two are gonna die…well the session will probably not have enough of what it needs to succeed. If the Witch doesn’t learn to change a person’s classpect, you’re going to have to keep the Knight of Space, at least until she breeds the frog, and then I’d personally keep the Knight of Mind.

Witch or Page?: Same problem, you have two Heart players, though this one is more of a coin flip. I’d keep both until it’s obvious whether the Witch can change a player’s classpect, but if not, you’d want to keep the Page. The Witch is more useful, but combined with your Prince, people are gonna start killing each other.

Leader: Rogue of Hope or Knight of Mind.

Offense: The three Knights, the Prince, and the Witch are all built very offensively in this session.

Planning: The Knights of Mind and Light are very very very bad signs together. They better start doing their jobs, and hope that one of them doesn’t die.

Survival: Three players are “doomed” due to classpect redundancy, but the Sylph is a good healer! Also, the Heir is still hilarious.

Frog Breeding: Knight of Space is amazing at breeding frogs, and if they need help, she has two other Knights to help!

Loyalty: You’re fucked. Hope your Witch and Prince are nice, or that the Page or the Rogue can do something to offset how much of a shitshow this will be.

Overall: This session is also cursed, but not as cursed. If you lose, it’ll be because someone murdered everyone.

Day 28

1/8 - Saturday and what should be a day off

Cute idea. It rarely pans out that way. Rarely.

The day started with cleaning the kitchen and then dealing with an issue at work.

This has been an issue since early November when the security team ratcheted up their scanning to eleven (and I really do hate to use a Spinal Tap reference with these officious twats - well, honestly, there is only one in that group that meets that criteria, and that person is the one running the show - the rest probably have the strongest eye sockets this side of the Mississippi due to all the eye rolling they must do). Needless to say, they turned up the heat on their scans, and I understand it, I get it, and it all makes sense. It's the attitude that gets thrown back when you stand at the base of the Ivory Tower with some constructive criticism - and it pours down like molten lead.

So, trying to play nice, I inquired if my affected (effected/affected?? it's too early for this fucking homonym game) servers could be scanned a different time and that would give me an opportunity to stop my services that were getting thoroughly buggered. What I got was a bunch nonsense about how the vendor needs to fix this, because this department has done nothing wrong or will accept any culpability in crashing my environment.

Side note: this happened on two consecutive Thursdays, so I was awaiting the issue with all sorts of monitoring tools on the morning of Thanksgiving (it was a Thursday problem). It was after this I presented my workaround by asking for a different scan time.

Being kind of the new guy on the team, the best I was told was to move the server to manual, which is the same as "don't scan the server", which was not my intent. Sadly, it took others on my team to also raise the red flags concerning these deep colonoscopy scans before anyone took it seriously. Finally, in December, a "new" type of scan was made available for Saturday mornings - which, with this server environment, is the ONLY window I have for doing any maintenance. It's cool. I am good with that.

Lest we forget that both Christmas and New Year's Day fell on Saturdays, so I absolutely put that nonsense off until this day. I scheduled the "new" scan that was supposed to be less intrusive for this Saturday and prepared myself for the worse... and the worse came, as expected.

In the end, I am going back to my original plan. I have a script that stops the service that was getting killed, it waits, and then restarts sometime after the scan passes through. This, ladies and gentlemen, is a case of what happens when you drive a spike into one foot and try to move - you go around in a lot of painful circles.

Oh yeah, then I rebuilt the network at my dentist's office for five hours. An hour job, or so I presumed, turned into a day of fun.

The day ends with some final prep for the podcast the next morning.
