Snakes by Bastille Scythaline is always rather uncertain about how valuable he is, even when each day he remains in the position he's been given. There's been no criticism (besides from Dreigas) and guidance given that is always kindly meant, but he is sure in some part of himself that he's not fit, not ready, will never be ready perhaps with how things are going. He doesn't have a choice with the war coming, with spring ushering in the promise of battle and blood, but he wishes, every day as he wakes up and must lead in drills and instruct Pawns and present himself as the proper Knight of White, that he had more time. He is not ready. He is not ready.

He almost wishes someone would say so to him (besides Dreigas), because even as it would strike him through and swallow him up, it would be a relief in some way to just accept it, to not have it as a nagging doubt but a certainty. Especially if someone would say, yes, Scythaline, you're not ready but here's what you can do to be ready. Kelradest had always understood this part of him, that he could be aimed at a task and that invigorated his drive to succeed. That he will always try his best if he has a goal in mind. Being a leader as he is now isn't something he was prepared for, and with word coming from the White Kingdom's spies about a plan for siege, he's meant to be coming up with strategy. He's meant to be planning the best ways to evacuate civilians, to be recruiting the best and bravest, to teach them how to deal with the Black Kingdom and it's formidable court. And instead... he's plagued with doubt and wishing for anything but the power he holds. Gwyn believes in him, Cynevor trusts him, Dreigas can't do anything to deny him, Kelradest chose him and yet... he is not ready.

20. cuddling Oh, of my characters Tajorinen is a star cuddler. For all of Simonery's fuss about falling in love and being seen to like anyone, when he does give into his interest in Tajorinen that tiny, frightened man gets CUDDLED. Tajorinen is jaguarfolk and when particularly pleased will purr up a storm, let alone being super warm and muscular. He curls around Simonery, purrs right into his neck and shoulder and snuggles him right up every chance he gets. It's not very often, mind-- but when it happens? It's the best.

35.wake-up kisses Femi has learned that if she's going to kiss Irastenys to wake him up, she's gotta be quick about it and pull away just in time-- that man wakes up with a start no matter what, no matter how peaceful or gentle or how long he's slept, so if she kisses him and lingers at it, she's going to get headbutt.
