Imagine learning to cook just for Tamaki's sake. While you love your shy guy dearly, and that would have been reason enough to start preparing meals for him, you'd spend a lot of time in the kitchen to make sure his diet was balanced and packed with useful ingredients specifically included for his quirk. Every time he leaves for patrol, you'd kiss him gently and hand him a carefully prepared bento box. "Stay safe," you'd say. And he leaves, face flushed red, knowing that you'd spent so much of your time in the kitchen for him, just to make sure he'll return safe and sound.

"Hey, are we all still on for some karaoke?" One of your classmates asked.
This was a usual thing to do. But this time, you had decided to ask one of your close friends, Tamaki, to join. He usually opted out for stuff like this.
But you thought once in a while would be good. Everyone needs to have some fun. You thought to yourself.
"Yes! I can't wait." You exclaim. You pulled your phone out and texted Tamaki asking if he was still on for tonight.
It was a quick reply.
'Yes' Was all it read.
The rest of the school day finished as usual, and you met up with Tamaki. There wasn't any time to go home and change and meet everyone, so you and he walked to the train station you would catch to the city.
All while on the way. You had noticed that Tamaki wasn't acting like himself, and he was a bit jumpier and more standoff-ish. You chalked it up as him being nervous about getting together with such a big group.
"Hey! Y/N! Amajiki! You guys made it! I was afraid that you would chicken out!" Someone jokingly says. You laugh about it, but Tamaki forces a fake one. Not that you noticed, that is.
The group of your classmates that came was much more than you expected, but overall it was fun to hang out with everyone. However, you were so immersed in having fun that you forgot about the shy, timid little kitten you brought.
Tamaki was in the farthest corner of the room, with fewer people. He scrolled on his phone, trying to distract himself from the noise and the bodies that seemed to push further and further into his bubble.
You finished the duet you were singing with one of your close friends from another class when you turned around, half expecting Tamaki to be right behind you, but you were a bit surprised when he wasn't there.
You scoped out the room and barely saw his midnight blue hair. You had to push your way through the cluster of people that formed groups in the middle of the room.
You plopped yourself down next to him with an 'oof.'
"Are you having fun?" You asked. You smiled at him. Hoping he was. But he shook his head. It wasn't often that Tamaki was honest with you; he let you drag him everywhere he went just because you two were excellent friends.
"What? You're not?" You ask, a little surprised. That's when it hit you. How could you be so stupid, you thought. Everything clicked, and you wanted to hit your head against the table as many times as it would take to take you back and decline the offer to come out.
You knew Tamaki wasn't good with crowds, but you forced him to come out anyway. You stood up abruptly, causing him to jump at the sudden movement. You once again weaved yourself through the sea of bodies. You grabbed onto the first friend you saw and told them you and Tamaki were leaving.
Of course, they tried to get you to stay, but you made up the excuse of not feeling well and how Tamaki offered to take you home.
Your friends made you promise to call when you got home. You agreed and went back to Tamaki and gently grabbed his hand, pulling him up to his feet and walking towards the door to leave.
Once outside, you tightened your hold on his hand.
"I am so sorry that I made you come out here. I should have realized that you wouldn't be comfortable in this situation." You explained to him, and you were a bad friend because of it. There was no getting around that.
"I-Its ok, Y/N," Tamaki stuttered out.
It wasn't, though. Nothing about this was ok. You didn't see his social cues and how his body language changed, and you should have known better when it came to him.
"It's not, though... I'm a bad friend." You say softly. You wipe the tears from your eyes even though you don't deserve to cry.
Tamaki pulls you into a hug.
"I promise it's ok. I should have voiced my problems and wanted to try and push myself so that you could have fun too. Watching you sing and dance made me feel good, and I don't want to hold you back from doing these things." He explained. That made you laugh a little.
"Maybe we need to get better at communicating and stop assuming what the other is feeling." You tell him.
Tamaki laughs.
"Why don't we get some Takoyaki and bring it back to my place for some movies?" You ask. You knew Takoyaki was Tamaki's favorite and how he couldn't resist.
"That sounds like a great idea." You tell him.

"Y/N...?" You didn't hear Tamaki's soft voice through your headphones, blasting music on the highest volume. You were sitting on your bed, happily scribbling away on a piece of paper, trying to come up with a new invention for your favorite student and his quirk. Upon realizing that there was no way you could have heard him, Tamaki took a moment to take in the sight in front of him. His breathing became ragged as he watched your completely oblivious form doing what came so naturally to you. His lips turned and twisted into a quivering smile - how could you be so cute?
As you put your pencil down and turned around to grab your drink, you jumped in surprise, startling Tamaki just as much. "Tamaki!" You snickered and put a hand on your chest, right over your fast-beating heart, removing your headphones with the other one, music still going. Tamaki swallowed, avoiding eye contact. "H-hey... I'm sorry, I..." he trailed off. Maybe he shouldn't have come to see you. He'd startled you and distracted you from your work. He must have been such a nuisance already.
"Don't worry, it's good to see you!" You gestured for him to enter your dorm room. Did you really mean it? How was it good to see... him? But then again, you never seemed to be annoyed by him or his demeanor. To the male student, it was a miracle. It took Tamaki a moment to steady himself and take a deep breath before he stepped into your room and closed the door behind him. You patted the duvet, urging him to take a seat, loud music still blaring from your headphones around your neck. With a deep red blush on his cheeks, he complied.
Tamaki took a seat on your soft bed, keeping some distance from you for good measure. He looked down to his hands, fiddling with his fingers, avoiding eye contact at all cost. "I have something I wanna show you, Tamaki!" You stood up and walked over to your desk. You grabbed your sketchbook, turned off the playlist on your phone while you were at it, and plopped back down next to your visitor. "Look, I was thinking about your visor the other day! It's already pretty cool and everything, but I noticed that this little piece over the bridge of your nose is leaving marks on your skin because it's probably too tight. So, I have been making a few adjustments, and your new visor will be finished by Monday. Also, I was just working on something that might come in handy," you moved a little and grabbed the piece of paper you had been working on minutes ago to show him, "but I guess, I'll talk to you about this in detail tomorrow, when it's not only a rough sketch anymore."
You turned your head to look at him, expecting some affirmation or denial on your proposal, but all you were met with were Tamaki's indigo blue eyes, staring at you, and a soft smile gracing his quivering lips. "Y-you..." He breathed shakily. "You m-made all of this... F-for me...?" You nodded in response. "I'm part of the support team, remember? I'd do anything for my favorite student," you proudly stated.
Tamaki gasped and covered his eyes with his hands. Never in his life had he felt this flustered before. You were just that cute, and did he really just miss everything you explained because he was staring at you? But what he did recall was what you had called him. Your favorite. "Y-y/n... I," and that's when the both of you heard a whistle coming from the direction of your door. From the inside of your room.
"Wow, sorry, you guys," Mirio sheepishly stated. "I didn't know you were both in here together. Did I interrupt anything?"

I / II / III / Chapter 4
Tumblr media
You've never thought of yourself as a hysterical person.
There were few instances you'd momentarily lost your composure over the course of your life. Times you had, perhaps, gotten a bit too agitated or dared to speak out of line, nothing overtly overzealous however. Refined was your imperial image and proper your demure voice, all marks of a "well trained" woman. Of an acceptable queen. Yes, nothing, no matter how earth shattering the revelations or horribly tragic the whispers, you'd never let your emotion stand beneath the limelight.
Even as your hands shook subtly underneath your pulsing uncertainty, you still believed that in earnest.
It was only now, after a brief breakfast and Eri's tear filled final departure, that the true choking heft of Amajiki's declaration bore mercilessly down upon your splitting back.
Just how were you supposed to respond to such news? Should you behave like a loving wife and be elated at the return of your husband? A faithful subordinate who's been informed that their superior has returned to command? Or perhaps annoyed that a prison mate you barely know has invaded your cell?
You had no such answer and as you casted a hesitant glance to the root cause of your turmoil, it was clear he'd offer no solution either. Tamaki's face just as afflicted as yours, his stormy dark eyes darting between the palace's many, ornate tapestries that decorated the serene dawn lit marble hallways, that you both currently roamed together without so much as a whisper.
You wanted to grip the rim of his collar and beg him to tell you how to behave, plead with him to alleviate the burden starting to lacerate the delicate white matter of your mind. Anything, anything but what he was doing now…which was desperately trying to avoid your shifting stare.
Though you had tried to make simple conversation numerous times, it was for naught. Words and topics you'd carefully chosen, that might enlighten you to his favored disposition, had fallen to the wayside along with his short, wobbly replies. None of which illuminated your current shadow cast inquiry. Yet, despite his lack of engagement, it seemed he fully insisted on accompanying you down the winding corridor. For what reason, you weren't sure and you didn't think you'd figure it out either. Things would be much less confusing if you could read those steeled, murky indigo irises. Honestly, scripture written in ancient markings was far more friendly to decipher than him.
"H-how are you feeling?” It was a simple question that came suddenly. One that caught you completely off guard.
“Good?” You answered with almost a knee-jerk, panicked reaction, that wasn’t becoming of you. you couldn’t help but cringe at the question teeming within your hurried response.
One that Amajiki definitely noticed.
“Are you sure?” That was not a question, more so an opportunity he was hesitantly trying to bestow upon you.
Tamaki was never exceptional at being discreet with his anxious tendencies nor talented with his child's play at unwavering confidence, both of which he was trying to display as he waited for you to speak. You couldn’t ignore the way he held you in his stare, a hopeful glint coloring his otherwise ink pooled irises. It was strange, you could almost swear he was asking you to confide, wanting you to speak your troubles freely and without hindrance.
But why? You couldn’t even fathom the curve of an illusion that dared answer such a question.
And just what did he expect you to tell him?
That you felt as if nothing more than a forgotten toy that gathered dust in his cobwebbed childhood chest? That the insatiable loneliness, you were anchored too by custom sorrow crafted gauntlets, forced an ugly emotion to grow inside your caving chest every time you heard his voice? That you wailed in the company of no one but the listless sea and her accompanying melancholy moonbeams about how your dreams, your hope, your freedom was pried away before you ever had a chance to touch it?
Or did he want you to tell him that you blamed him for it all?
"Why does it interest you, my Lord?" You asked, words bristling with transparent hostility that stirred against a genuine curiosity.
“Oh, it-it’s just…you seemed so…upset after Eri and Mirio departed-” Tamaki explained timidly, wearing an distressed look as if he was a guilt ridden child being harshly scolded. “I-I wanted to make sure you..were okay.”
You paused, quietly studying his ever shrinking form. Were you okay? Was he really asking you that?
“Of course I am, please don’t worry yourself.” You assured with false credence, an empty smile on your lips.
The way Tamaki just…stared at you after your mockery of a smile faded made your skin ripple with an alien unease. It was a long and potent somber contemplation that didn’t shy away even under the stern warning of your soft glare. You couldn’t help the way you cowered under his eyes, a vulnerability you didn’t like fashioned its threaded twine around your neck as his familiar pain hung you. You could hear his disheartened stare concede to your deception. Though it was Amajiki that shook, even now in your presence, you were the one who receded into dread.
You lied to him and he knew you did.
A deep sigh fell from his lips as he tore away his crestfallen gaze, accepting your lie with an equally forced smile.
“I understand...”
Don’t say it like that.
“I'm glad you're alright…”
Stop it.
Why was he acting as if neither of you had lied since the very first time you both beheld each other within intertwined webs that carried the same wretched fate? Lies are what held the other’s hands steady in matrimony, lies were what spurred his lips to press against yours with tongues filled with meaningless vows. Lies were the only reason you both could live with what has been taken away.
“I suppose then-” He started.
Amajiki had done the exact same sin to you just a night ago and he dared now to make the uncharted chasm within the delicate lattice of your framework falter with a kindred sadness you didn’t ask for. It provoked you as it begged to be mended, the same way your sadness begged for and was always denied. How cruel, forcing you to kneel in front of the mirror of despair and expect you not to glimpse your own reflection. How could you turn away? How could your hands replicate the cracks he made you bear? How could you ignore your own suffering in different eyes? It wasn't fair. He wasn’t being fair.
Your fingers hastily pulled at the hemmed cusp of his sleeve, your meager hold stopping his retreat before it ever began.
“The garden,” You spoke with a foreign tone, one that you didn’t believe was your own. “The flowers are…in bloom.”
You swallowed hard as you could feel his stunned gaze upon your shoulders, a breath not shared between you as the air seemed to thin.
“If you could spare the time, I can show them to you.” You concluded quietly, not daring to let go.
✦✧✦✧
“Lonicera Caerulea or Blue Honeysuckle are quite a wonderful type of edible flora.” You informed as your fingers traversed the soft skin of the oblong, blue fruit that gathered in small clusters along the flowers' many branches.  “This one plant has so many uses.”
“They’re very fragrant.” Tamaki murmured with clear interest, studying the strange shape of the fruit with childlike wonder. “Can you really eat them?”
“Yes but these aren’t ripe yet. They’re still blue.” Gently, you pulled off a small berry before breaking in it half, revealing its green insides. “When the berries become fully ripe they turn a beautiful almost blackened purple and the insides are no longer green. It can take a while though.”
“I didn’t know such a plant was native here.” Tamaki said surprised, he’d never seen the plant’s dusky blue fruits or their long, pointed leaves within the reaches of his kingdom.
“They’re not.” You sighed wistfully as you handed the fruit to Tamaki, who hesitantly took it in his palm. You turned your attention back to the blooming plant as you reached for its hanging leaves. “They were a parting gift. They belong in a land far away from here…or so I’ve been told.”
“I see…” he whispered, silently watching the way you tenderly caressed the honeysuckle’s leaves, it seemed as if their unique feel climbed up your fingertips like vines grown from a forlorn but cherished remembrance.
Tamaki looked at the fruit resting within his palm, he didn’t know anything about this plant or the unripe blue berries that mimicked a moonlight night’s obstinate hue. He didn’t know anything about you or the midnight shadow that casted a dark glow over your existence. You were as your beloved flower, foreign and shaded…
You stood stunned as Amajiki, despite your warning, ate a piece of the unripe fruit. He coughed as the bitterness of the berry exploded onto his tongue, his face scrunching up with distaste as he swallowed quickly.
“I told you they weren’t ripe. They won't taste good.” You admonished lightly, confusion lacing your voice.
“I know.” He mumbled before putting the other half of the berry into his mouth, the same sour expression dawning upon his features.
“Why are you eating it then?” you asked, completely stupefied by Amajiki’s actions.
“I don’t mind if they're bitter.” he rasped, wiping away the tart juice that lingered on his lips. “I just wanted to know something about it, even if it’s just what the unripe berries taste like.”
You stared at him, mystified by his simple reasoning. He’d assault his taste buds just so he could know more about the plant? Was he really that determined to learn?
A full body shiver ran down his shoulders in a way that conjured a picture of a trembling kitten and you couldn’t help yourself-
You giggled at his eccentricity.
Tamaki’s eyes widened at the resonant sound that entered his elven ears, his face blooming with rose as you hurried to cover your mouth, trying futilely to suppress the fantastical, rare music that your chest never composed for anyone but Eri. It was but a modest, single note, not the grand orchestra crafted for the little girl but it boisterously echoed just the same. Most remarkable of all? It was he who made the violin’s strings play. He did. No one else.
And it was the most exquisite scale he’s ever heard.
“If you wanted to know more, I could've just told you. I tend to this plant myself so I know quite a bit about it.” You hummed after your tone became more tranquil. You didn’t seem to notice the enthralled lull you pulled the man at your side into with your saccharine music.
“O-oh r-right…” Amajiki whispered after a beat, remembering he needed to respond even if his breath had been stolen. However, when you told him you cared for the flower on your own, an emboldened pluck of courage found its way into his lungs. “U-um if you wouldn’t m-mind…I’d like to, um…to..”
“Would you like to help me with it sometime?” As his confident nerve seemed to wane, you took his question as your own, alleviating him of his internal pressure.
“I-I’d like that.” Tamaki smiled gratefully, accepting your invitation with an unparalleled happiness.
“Now over here are the roses…”
You really were so kind to him.
✦✧✦✧
You sat alone, gaze transfixed on the garden that looked quite minuscule from your elevated spot on the window seat. You found yourself returning to the untouched study that lied far from all else, isolated from the scuttle of maids and butlers that weren’t your own or the chattering of advisers who never knew your name. Away from them and away from him. You could think here, you could reflect here. You didn’t have to pretend within the walls of this haven.
Your knees hugged to your chest, your features scowling as you reminisced about the morning. Your brief interaction left an unpalatable taste on your tongue, it poured forth from a well of anxiety you didn't fully know the source of. Why did you finish his question? Why not let it die as so many of his words were destined to do? You knew he wouldn’t accompany you, let alone tend to your plant on his own. Amajiki couldn’t be bothered amidst his royal obligations and mundane meetings, so why on earth did he even bother to ask? And why, of all things, did you for even a moment find him…endearing?
That wasn’t you. You didn’t feel that. He didn’t make you feel that. It was a misplaced fondness, you missed Eri badly and Tamaki, for a second, resembled a small characteristic of her. That’s all it was, all it ever would be.
You had rather an enlightened understanding of emotions, despite your own dwindling stock of them, you could identify them in those around you quite well. You could discern from even the slightest shift in vocal tone, a sudden but disappearing quirked brow, or the immeasurable changing sway of the way a person stood idly, all of it spoke to you as if a squall. A long suffrage of detached observation gifted you with such a skill, perhaps it was life's attempt at a consolation prize, a little reward for putting up with a never-ending flow of dreary days. You were quick to notice and even quicker to appeal…you needed that talent right now, more than anything. But as much as you wished for it, the level of understanding you gifted to others was something you could never give to yourself.
And it was killing you.
Your knuckles whitened as they gathered up corners of your dress, your teeth sinking into your bottom lip as did what you could to quell the stirring inside your heart.
You didn’t want him here. You didn’t want to be around him, you couldn’t. Just like you couldn’t handle this towering swell of displaced emotion, you wanted it to go away. You wanted everything to go away.
Your hazy eyes caught on the corner of the old desk, the small box lonesome in the same spot it sat on your birthday, unopened, unwanted. It was mocking you, for not understanding him, for not understanding yourself. Laughing at you, the same way Amajiki was surely doing when you parted from him. You glared angrily at it, perhaps hoping the hellfire of your stare would cause it to melt away. It dared to remain despite your burning protest, timid and insistent in its unmoving presence.
You stood with a start, grabbing the black box off the desk with unnecessary force. You pulled your arm back, preparing to launch it at the innocent bookshelf that unfortunately found itself in the path of your blazing fire. The soft velvet gracing against your skin forced you to pause; You lowered your arm when you felt it, your thumb dragging across its fuzzy fabric.
What were you doing?
You covered your weary eyes with a shaking hand as you held the black velvet box tightly in your palm. Carefully, you placed it back down on the desk's surface, resting it on the same spot it had been as you sighed deeply.
You really were losing your mind, weren't you?

TW: Food Stuffing, swollen belly, large amounts of food, fast food, buttons popping off.
WC: 912
You were a waitress at a local diner working your current shift, noticing a young man that had purple hair and pointed ears enter your establishment. He was tall and thin, but not too skinny as he had a muscular build. There were two other people that accompanied him. A taller man with blonde hair and blue eyes, having a stronger build than his friend and a woman with light blue hair and a bubbly personality who helped guide their friend into a booth and sat down. You took up three menus from their holder and walked over to the booth.
“Hello there and welcome. What can I get started for you today?” You asked as you took out your small notepad to take down their order. The blonde looked at the menu for a moment then spoke.
“I’d like a cola, a sweet tea for the lady, root beer for my friend here. He would also like your mega cheese burger challenge. I think my friend and I will need a moment to look over the menu.” He spoke. You wrote all that down on your notepad before taking it back.
“I’ll bring your drinks out in a moment and put in the order for the challenge. It will be a moment as it is a lot of food.” You told them before turning back to the kitchen to put in the order.
“One mega cheeseburger challenge!” You called into the chef. They nodded and began getting to work. In this mega cheeseburger challenge was a giant cheese burger holding four patties layered with cheese, bacon, fondue cheese, and brown butter sauce in a pretzel bun. It also had a double order or curly fries, and another burger with the same toppings and bun but with chicken patties instead. There was also an order of chicken tenders lathered in the same fondue cheese too. The person ordering this challenge had an hour and a half to eat this all and get it for free or they had to pay. While you waited for the food to cook, you went back to the table, having noticed that the two other people were ready to order. They requested a grilled chicken wrap and a grilled chicken sandwich. You took those back and told the chef their orders and brought out the drinks to them.
Soon the chef rang the bell that the food for the challenge was ready and you went back to bring it out with the help of another waiter to bring it over to the table. The kid with the purple hair looked intimidated by the vast amount of food that was being placed on the table.
“You have an hour and a half to finish all of this or you’ll have to pay a fee of fifty dollars. Your time starts now.” You told him and he began with the fries and chicken tenders which went down easily with the soda he was guzzling to wash down the food he was eating. You went back behind the counter to clean out some plastic cups that had been used and was watching the purple haired boy keep eating the sandwiches in layers, eating the buns first then the patties, slowing down eventually as he got fuller, placing a hand on his stomach as it strained against his button-down shirt. He paused for a moment to let himself rest before his friends encouraged him to keep going. He leaned forward and managed to stuff the rest of the meat patties into his stomach before the buttons popped off and he got embarrassed. He took some deep breaths and rubbed his stomach before sliding the last cheese-laden chicken patty into his mouth and slammed his fist on the red button that had been placed next to the tray of food before leaning back in relief then you came over.
“Congratulations! You finished the challenge. When you’re ready, we can take a picture to put on our wall of champions. Then take your time to get yourself ready to walk. You did eat a lot of food and we would hate for you to make yourself sick.” You told them and they nodded and thanked you as you cleared the tray and took it back to be cleaned.
You waited and served other customers while they took their time. Soon the blonde kid waved you over for the cheque and you gave it to them.
Before they left, you scribbled your phone number on a napkin and handed it to the purple haired guy.
“Call me sometime. I liked how you finished the challenge so quickly. No one has done it that fast before.” You told him with a smile. He blushed and took the napkin.
“T-thank you. My name is Tamaki. What’s yours?” He asked sheepishly.
“My name is Y/n. Nice to meet you, Tamaki.” You responded before Tamaki left with his friends out of the diner. You knew that you would see him again soon.
The End.
