I'm a big fan of autumn and winter but I also very much enjoy basking in the sun. The past couple of years my summer hobby has been sitting in the sun for hours with books, writing projects, and a nice cold drink. Despite lockdown still being partially in place I've been taking to my building's rooftop deck the past few days in order to soak up as much sun as possible. Sadly I can't get much reading done up there as I read most books on my laptop and that screen and sun don't work well together... I'm hoping once the library opens up again I'll be able to read upstairs more! #qotd: What is your favorite sunshine activity? I'm a big fan of reading on a bench. There’s no specific reason, but somehow the author has performed some sort of alchemy using of good writing, lovable characters, and timing my reading moodiness to create gold. One Kiss Before Christmas is one such book for me. There wasn’t anything particularly mind blowing or overly unique about this book except that it made me feel good in a time when I struggle with that feeling. I knew when I opened my kindle, I would be in a safe, mildly pine scented. place to read. There is a great comfort in feeling safe when reading expecially in such a tumultuous time. #qotd what is your drink of choice? . . Today is #nationalscotchday and #bagpipeappreciationday so I feel like I had to post about my favorite books set in #scotland. I can’t explain how much I love this country, especially the highlands. I have honestly never felt so connected to land as I did there, as if the peacefulness of the moors could seep into me as I stood on its soil. #question What are some things you are interested in learning more about? . . It’s #Canada Day! I honestly didn’t understand what that meant when I saw it on twitter this morning, but luckily, I had some time to look it up. To celebrate, I thought I would look into some #books written by Canadian authors and I found these two #newtome books. What’s extraordinary is that they are both #bipoc authors, both writing about the impact of slavery during the revolutionary war in America, and how freed slaves were moved into Nova Scotia. Given that this weekend is Independence Day in America, these two books are perfect for this weekend and shed light on a mostly ignored aspect of the revolution. I have been mentioning this series by @karenmariemoningofficial in so many comments, that I felt I should probably do my own post about them. Quite honestly, Why isn’t everyone talking about these books? I see ACOTAR and ACOMAF everywhere, and I only tried that series bc I loved this one so much. Don’t get it twisted, I love ACOMAF, but these books opened my mind to fae fantasy and gave me my first alpha male crush. And the heroine is so freaking bada$$, even though she doesn’t start off that way. She grows, and trains, and learns how to survive and finds power (both literal and figurative) that she didn’t know she had. These books are on autobuy for me and if you love SJM just go get them.
