My parents won’t be around to have to worry about what’s coming. The harm that their generation and the ones before them caused. In 2050, I will be 54. Unless something tragic happens before then I will be there to breathe that unbreathable air and to try to hide from that unforgiving heat. Will society have collapsed by then? Will we have the things that we take for granted now like electricity, air conditioning and medicine? Or will that have gone to shit too? Will we have nothing to our names, fighting and stealing for any water or food? I am angry and I am scared. Meanwhile children are still made to go to school and adults are made to work jobs that give them no sense of accomplishment or joy as our only planet suffocates. Like things are okay. Like everything is fine. Everything is so expensive that we can’t afford basic things even when working full time. We can’t afford to be alive on a burning, choking planet. I am 27, my generation and ones after me are expected to magically fix everything. I don’t know if it’s going to be okay.
