Sense and Sensibility (2024, Hallmark) a review

I had expectations for this movie. They were not surpassed. It didn't perform below them either.

Spoilers under the cut.

So, this is a short movie (1.24hr long) a tv movie, a hallmark movie. You must keep that in mind as a frame of reference for what I'm about to say. You cannot really compare this with theatrical movies on equal footing.

Where to start. Costumes and sets. It is Bridgerton's world and we live in it. Everything is VERY colorful and shiny and not very real looking; that was to be expected. I think that sort of semi-fantasy aspect didn't hurt at all, and it was consistent. If you are not going to stick to the time period, at least go ham and show me something really interesting. I'm looking at you, Netflix Persuasion. There are some dresses that are pretty, and some others that... aren't. Considering that apparently the costume designer had to make something like 60 pieces in a month, it's kind of impressive that it came out as it did.

One funny bit, though, in this respect, is that they complain about how small the cottage is like some actual estate houses aren't the same size IRL XD Allenham we only get to see from afar, and it is rather disappointing.

Music: nothing to write home about, to be expected. Yes, we got one of those Vitamin String Quartet modern-song-played-by-strings. IDK. They were a bit dorky in their heyday, I don't know why they are so sought after in these pieces lately. I digress.

The acting. Deborah Ayorinde was a really good Elinor. She definitely deserved better writing and direction. The rest of the cast was good enough; I feel some roles really benefited from their characters being a bit hammy already in the source material (Lucy, Mrs Jennings, Anne, Fanny, Robert), others were really struggling because of being given very poor dialogue (Mrs Dashwood), and others were just... not good (Willoughby and Brandon, sadly). Edward was... a very special case. I can only describe it as the actor having two expressions: one, an attempt at reaching Hugh Grant's adorkableness AND Dan Stevens' ease at the same time, and two [SCREAMING INTERNALLY], but I guess those two were indeed enough to make it work just fine!

Which leads me to the writing. We all knew this adaptation was going to live or die in the writing, and most likely die.

The thing is that most of it is written around repeating 95' and 08's greatest hits, while attempting to compress the narrative into an hour and a half. And that goes as well as you can expect it to. Some scenes are painfully rushed -Brandon's backstory was extremely awkward to get through- some things are over before you have any time to assess their real weight -Marianne's illness, and many others end up being... incongruous.

Let me stop a little on those. The movie keeps Margaret, and gives her the whole play acting as a pirate with Edward from 95', but then removes the only real plot relevant thing she does in the book. So why keep the character at all? (Willoughby asks for Marianne's handkerchief in exchange for Queen Maab, instead of cutting a lock of her hair).

Because 2008 makes Brandon suspicious of Willoughby from the get go, this one makes it so that they know each other and implies that Brandon knows dirt on Willoughby, but then plays the rest of the story straight, which makes it... pretty inconsistent.

Speaking of Brandon, we have reached adaptation #5 that cuts out the fact that he tried to elope with Eliza sr. This time the backstory is that his father promised to let him marry Eliza if he proved himself as a soldier, but when he came back, he found his father has kicked her out of the house. Yeah, that was utter nonsense.

The adaptation makes a clumsy attempt at including the dinner at Mrs Ferrars... but Brandon isn't there to see Marianne defend Elinor.

We needed to have a "Brandon rescues Marianne in the rain" scene, but in this case, she's not faint or anything, he just grabs her because she's sad XD

And the list goes on and on and on. It was to be expected that the shadow of both 95 and 08 would be large over this one, but it truly is to the point that the references and contrivances are almost constant. Which is a pity because I think most of the original choices were interesting.

For example, Marianne twists her ankle running after Margaret, to try and stop her from asking something embarrassing, which is a good choice in terms of showing that Marianne is passionate, but she has more sense than Margaret.

On his deathbed, Mr Dashwood makes Elinor promise that she will take care of her mom and sisters and keep the family together. That added pressure on Elinor works really well in the context of the adaptation, and ads a new layer of interest.

John Dashwood is written mostly as a hapless but not malicious idiot. This is similar to what From Prada to Nada did (though there it made more sense because of the father having two families simultaneously), but I'm not sure where was that going. They did cut the Palmers, so I suppose the choice was so that they could go to Norland instead on their way to Barton (it is never established that Norland is so far away as it is in the book, so I guess one could give it a pass), but in that case, I feel the most cost effective shortcut is... have them go to Barton? Because we do get to see Barton (Marianne goes alone with Brandon to see it close to the end, and they get engaged before Edward returns, don't think much about it, manners and such are... for this movie... loose guidelines. But it isn't super offensive most of the time).

Anne Steele is decent fun as she's supposed to be, but Lucy really suffers the flattening. The mastermind has been flanderized into just a mean girl, and that's a pity.

Oh, Edward is sassy at times! And the sassy jokes land! I have to say it is not my preferred way of doing the character, but he does show some sass at the end of the novel, so, you know, I'll allow it I suppose XD

Edward's return and proposal started pretty good, but it overstayed its welcome. I cannot emphasize enough that, when writing this kind of proposal, you must avoid the word love if you can, and if you must use it, use it once, and with great reluctance.

The movie chooses to dedicate quite a time to the reveal of Edward and Lucy's relationship, and it's honestly... decent? For a scene made out of whole cloth it stands on its own feet reasonably well. But there's no Fanny freakout. This is probably the most shocking plot twist in the adaptation. This very on-the-nose Hallmark adaptation decided to cut the Fanny freakout of all things. Impressive restraint.

One thing, however, that was sadly cut out was Elinor and Marianne's conversation about Willoughby at Barton. It is instead replaced by an unsubtle comparison between Willoughby and Edward, and an exchange between Brandon and Marianne. It is one of the several points where the storytelling relies on previous knowledge of the work.

These are my main, disordered thoughts. I leave you with this choice from the ending, that I cannot form a thought about:

At Elinor and Edward's wedding, on the first pew are in attendance, from center to side: Mrs Dashwood, Margaret, Marianne, colonel Brandon... and Eliza Williams with her baby in her arms.

As a summary, I'd say Elinor and Edward's story was good enough, the relationship between the sisters was sweet, there were some odd choices, some interesting choices, and overall the writing was severely downgraded by attempting so much to stick to the choices of previous famous adaptations.

"You're the son of Kousuke Ezaki, right?"

"Hm. Got a feelin' he'd be disagreein' with ya on this..."

After Vince returned to Night City in 2071, Jackie introduced him to another of his many "friend-of-a-friend"s - the owner of a Valentino-adjacent (but not officially affiliated) car repair shop in Heywood. The guy had been desperately looking for a tech-savvy helper, and Jackie figured it might be something Vince could be good at with his knowledge, skills and an interest in cars.

Vince did not exactly jump at the opportunity, but he did not have too many other choices at the time, if he wanted to keep a roof above his head. There were better jobs, but also much worse, and so he agreed to give it a try.

Turned out, he had a knack for cars, and after some initial reluctance from both sides, "V" became an important asset to the small repair shop in no time. He learned to enjoy all aspects of the work, from fine-tuning ECUs to fixing electrical damages, all the while improvising with the often limited resources at hand. Still though, not a Heywood-native, Vince always remained the odd-one-out among his coworkers, as with their love for cars their common interests ended. Vince learned to prefer it this way, as it gave him the freedoms to set his own priorities, work on side-projects while the others were out for lunch for example. Also, he would not get too attached to a workplace and coworkers he knew he did not want to stay around forever.

The repair shop's clientele largely consisted of locals, gangers and "normal" citizens alike (even if the lines tended to get blurry occasionally). But there was also a handful of regulars of a bigger, much better-paying caliber, that Vince initially wasn't even allowed to look at, let alone touch their cars.

Word-of-mouth recommendations had led a certain Arthur Jenkins to Heywood one fateful day, his request so simple that Vince was allowed to tackle it. The first time he was trusted with a "special" customer on his own. The task: "correct" the milage of the suit's car, easy as pie. Vince had mastered similar feats as a teenager already.

What should have been a quick-and-easy job though uncovered something Jenkins did not like at all - a well-hidden tracker following his every move, and had it not been for Vince's experience with these things, it would have remained undiscovered most likely. Jenkins left the shop satisfied but also curious... How come a low-life street-punk like that knew so much about Militech tracker signatures?

A few days later Vince was intercepted by Jenkins on his way home. Initially not too impressed by the corpo throwing around random facts about Vince's not-so-secret past that anyone with too much time on their hands could have uncovered, Jenkins had an ace in the hole. Vince was confronted not only with a part of his past not even he himself was aware of at this point... but also an offer too intriguing to pass up...

Fun fact: I'm fully abusing this little project to showcase all the hairstyles I almost gave Vince when I first made him in CC XD This wasn't my second or third choice, but I considered it! It's just so funky-looking with the two colors, super bold, and it does really fit him during that time in his life where he doesn't give a fuck about anything at all anymore. He goes a bit more wild with his appearance, dares to experiement more and grows into his own person... only for Jenkins to show up just in time to ruin everything, the bastard (affectionate).

I don't want to spoil too much about what exactly it is that Jenkins knows about Vince's past that made him eventually follow him into Arasaka's loving embrace, cause I still wanna write this scene out in detail in my background fic for Vince :3 It isn't just one detail or one thing either, it's a multitude of factors, promises, secrets, opportunities, combined with Vince's hunger for more than being a little part-time mechanic in a sleazy auto shop, more than a roadie or retail worker, just more... because he knows he has the potential for it, and Jenkins is holding all the keys to unlock it in that moment.

And yes, this is all one hell of a fateful coincidence, but it's those that make a good story. As for the task Vince was given with resetting the car's mileage: he had done similar things to his mother's car as a teen, when he "borrowed" it late at night to go on joyrides with his "friends" at the time and she was not supposed to notice. His mother also had connections and friends at Militech that supplied her with little tracking devices to keep her unruly child in check, and once Vince noticed that he learned to spot and disable them as well.

Also, tiny detour to/ easter egg for "Love is Stored in the Olive Jar", if you've been keeping up with that!

The car in the background of the upper pic and more prominently in the second with Jackie is Vince's first car, a pale blue Archer Quartz. The (almost) same model Mr. B provided as a getaway vehicle in chapter one of my post-ending fic, that Vince has to abandon at an auto repair shop :3c Oh, how could Mr. B have known these details of Vince's past...

Speaking of Vince's past and the quote I put at the very top of the post! Vince isn't hiding the fact that he's trans, it's a part of his story and he's proud of his identity. So, when Jenkins wonders if he's Kousuke Ezaki's son, Vince reacts the way he does because for one, by the time his father had died he hadn't realized himself yet that he was trans. And secondly, even if he had, he knew his father well enough to know he would never have accepted him the way he is, for a variety of reasons.

In this moment he learns an important thing about Jenkins: that he's a manipulative bastard trying to tug on his heartstrings, but he only has outdated, surface-level information - or is at least willing to reveal only that for starters.

1. What’s your favourite sims death?

Hum, tough one. I guess being struck by lighting is pretty cool, not that I get to see it that often. Also being hit by a satellite, but I’ve literally never seen it happen in my game unless I cheat.

2. Alpha CC or Maxis Match?

Alpha, obviously. Although I prefer to call my style ‘semi-realistic’.

3. Do you cheat when your sims gain weight?

I used to, but now I’m like, nah. Let those sims have some meat on their bones!

4. Do you use move objects?

All the time, bruh.

5. Favorite mod?

If I only had to pick one, then Gunmod’s radiance lighting. Picked based on the fact that it’s always the first mod I get whenever I have to reinstall.

6. First expansion/game/stuff pack you got?

I think it was Nightlife? But my PC from back then was so weak that I couldn’t get the EP to work at all, save for a couple outfits that were randomly showing up in CAS.

7. Do you pronounce “live mode” like aLIVE or LIVing?

Been pronouncing it ‘aLive mode’ ever since I started simming. I never even knew there was a debate about it until I saw a post on simblr some years ago.

8. Who’s your favorite sim that you’ve made?

What, just one? D: I have a bunch of faves, and you can probably tell who they are by the fact that they crop up in every new iteration of my game.

9. Have you made a simself?

Never, nor do I plan to! Having a sim version of myself in the game would just feel weird.

I don’t know them all by heart and I’m too lazy to google 'em, so pass. xD

I wouldn’t say that I necessarily have a favorite, but I noticed a lot of my sims tend to have black hair.

Adults, duh. And teens. They’re pretty fun too.

I think it’s gotten more consistent? I’ve been trying to find a balance between realistic and cartoony cc to maintain that elusive ‘semi-realistic’ look that I’m so fond of, and I like to think that I have a pretty good grasp on it now, after so many years of simming.

One favorite cc creator? BRUH. I have a 10GB downloads folder, and you better believe every creator whose cc is in there is my favorite! 🤣

By offering a blood sacrifice on a full moon. Nah, kidding. No blood is spilled during my editing process, though it does feel that way sometimes, considering how effin' long it takes me to iron out all the small kinks that annoy me about my screenshots. I kinda hoped having a dedicated photoshop action would help, but it only speeds up the process so much, unfortunately. :(

25. What expansion/game/stuff pack do you want next?

For Sims 2? Dunno man. Maybe a higher-res remake with all existing EPs/SPs and all known issues ironed out. Which is probably never gonna happen, but a girl can dream, right?

I’m partial to Apartment Life because it introduced witches, one of my favorite supernatural life states!

Actually.. The Daycare Attendant never came back.

In the story he did go to an employee the next day. But they told him the same thing. “We cant find anything wrong with you, so go back to work”

Sunny knew they were full of crap. So he figured to keep everyone safe.. He would keep the lights on at all times and not leave the Daycare until he could fix himself.

..A few months have gone by now, and he still hasn’t left the safety of the Daycare.

I never really cared for it too much. That’s mostly why I made Sunny/Moony one person in my AU.

Having them be two separate characters sharing one body just got confusing. And I couldn’t see a reason why Fazbear Entertainment would want to have a dual AI animatronic like that.. So I just made him 1 person.

My Chica’s eyes are almost identical to her “infected” eyes. The infected eyes are a bright toxic purple while her normal eyes are like a soft purple-ish pink.

If I decide to keep the part where Chica gets crushed by the trash compacter thingy, she will not have been lured in by Monty Mix. She would have been lured in by a pizza.

Because in my AU, its just food in general that Chica wants to eat. And Pizza is the thing she is most consistently recognizes.

Nothing against Jack Black and Chris Pratt, but I really hate them for the voices of Mario and Bowser. And although I haven’t heard the voices of the other characters, I imagine I’m gonna hate them too.

Kamek’s voice was alright though, and Toads could’ve been worse. But I just couldn't get over Mario and Bowser.

The ONLY way I will be 100% fine with Mario is if they go with the Storyline of Mario being some random guy from Brooklyn or something that got transported into the mushroom kingdom. If they try to sell him as Italian I will be ANGRY

Also there’s nothing you can do to make me like Jack black as Bowser, I just keep hearing Po from Kung fu Panda. When ever Bowser talks he loses all of his intimidation.

Uhg and I bet they’re gonna make Bowser witty and quirky and the awkward comic relief character and whatever instead of the intimidating ruler that he is.

Also somewhat unrelated but I liked to imagine that Calico Jack was proud of Kwazii for his decision, despite being all about that pirate life. I imagined that he would talk to Kwazii and be like.

“Just look at ya lad. Dedicatin’ yer life to helpin others. Yer really somethin Kwazii. Yer the best of all of us.”  😭

Happy Birthday Helbram!

Helbram is my favorite character. I love him to hell and back, so I'm not super pleased with myself that I couldn't get a drawing done on time for him, I am working on it though! The best I can do this moment is an analysis post. So here's an in-depth-to-the-best-of-my-ability wing analysis!

As an author's note, I am not an avid reader. Never have been. So, my primary source for any and all information I use - especially visual/design information - comes from the anime. Secondary sources include the Grand Cross mobile game and, of course, character wikis.

This is actually rather important to note in this particular case because there is a stark difference between the manga and the anime in how Helbram's wings are designed. It's also noteworthy to mention that the manga is actually inconsistent with how many wings Helbram has. Some frames have 4, some only have 2. So even if I knew the manga better, I'd still use the anime exclusively here simply because it's actually consistent about his design.

As far as I can tell, Helbram's wings are typical in position and spacing. They're in the middle of his upper back, and the bases of the lower set are right below the upper set. The lower set appear to be slightly more inward, closer to the spine, on his Grand Cross model, but that still falls within what should normal since the lower set is smaller. What's actually noteworthy about Helbram's wings are their resting position and their actual appearance.

Helbram appears to have moth-like wings.

They way the rest in a downward position, they base color and the fact that they're not transparent* are all reminiscent of a moth rather then a butterfly, dragonfly, or bee like most other fairies.

*Note that the opacity here is assumed rather than proven, as in the anime and in the grand cross models no one's wings are actually see-through. Though the models in other 3D media, like the Grudge of Edinburgh movie, do show most fairies having transparent wings. But of course Helbram isn't in that movie, so this can only be an assumption based on the base color and the general moth-ish-ness of the design.

The primary color is actually a very pale green, though it looks off white compared to the blue bands on the lower portion of each wing.

The Hex code for the primary color is E5EBE0 and is described by colorhexa.com as "light greyish green," and colorxs.com gives it the name "Acropolis." The lighter of the two bands is 89D7D3, which colorhexa.com describes as "slightly desaturated cyan." colorxs.com calls it Blue Green Pastel*. And yes, the asterisk is part of the name, I don't know why. The darker band is 4196A9, described by colorhexa.com as "dark moderate cyan" and called Blue (Munsell)* by colorxs.com.

So the bands are cyan rather than blue.

Helbram also moves him wings in an up-and-down kind of motion when he moves them at all, rather than the in-and-out, fluttery, motion that other fairies typically have.

This was...actually really hard to conclude with any degree of certainty XD. What I had to do was watch previews of his skills in Grand Cross, specifically using the AR feature it has for some reason, so I could get this weird angle on his model while it was moving...it was a nightmare.

So Helbram has both the most typical and the most unusual wings of the ones I've analyzed so far. I wish I had more to say, really, but since their size and position are so...exactly how they should be, all I can really pick apart is the appearance. I think they're lovely! :) I do really like his wings.

And now, just to fluff this out a little :p I'm going to add every drawing of Helbram to date! Plus an outfit I designed but haven't actually drawn him in yet.

ok so funny story: its not that they go up in smoke or anything, its that i just consistently make them bad trying to find ways to make a good one. ive committed to not looking it up because the first time i was faced with making one for myself rather than having someone else make one for me i asked myself "how hard could it be to grill a cheese?" before making probably the saddest grilled cheese you could imagine. the thing is, i like to cook -- especially things on a stovetop or a grill. so i thought itd be easy. self explanatory. just like pan toasting some bread with a fried egg in it like i have for breakfast nearly every day. i was dead wrong. making a grilled cheese blind is no novice work. up until this point had i taken every grilled cheese with a perfectly consistent golden color across the bread, the perfect brown char -- not too dark -- and uniformly melted cheese my mom had made me for granted. things clicked for me right then. as i stood in front of a lightly smoking pan that contained my culinary sin, i felt my entire world shift. the universe as i had known and lived it for 24 years of my life once again felt like a strange unknowable place. i say this with no exaggeration, it was thrilling. i had been suddenly faced with an unknown i felt i could carve my own path into. i could hone something from nothing. in such a mundane moment any other would cast off as failure i had been spiritually knocked flat on my ass. i mean this in the gravest sincerity my body can muster: i now truly understood what the perfect grilled cheese aspiration in the sims 2 meant. in what i once thought to be a throwaway LOL so randumb XD joke is a powerful revelation about indulging a comfort you never knew you were taking for granted growing up -- but, for the first time, alone. it IS a journey to recreate a small comfort like that in such a specific way. who knows if you will ever be able to recapture it exactly? you could fall short, you could hit it once and never again, you could surpass it, or -- if youre lucky enough -- you could send someone else on that same journey to recreate a comfort you provided them. i dont even like grilled cheeses that much; i just had some bread, some cheese and i guess i was more hungry than i thought.

How exactly did Faust and Terra first meet?

WELL!

I wish I could say it was something exciting, but it's actually a rather boring moment. XD

Though, I suppose it depends on how you look at it.

So, Terra was an extremely driven individual, still is, and in her late thirties, her pursuits in growing and improving her coven led her down some rabbit holes that were other sectors of the Isles needing improvement. One of which was the education sector. From the physical methods of education to the curriculum to the campuses themselves, she came to realize there was a surplus of old and outdated and she decided something needed to be done about that.

In her experience, if you wanted something done (and done right) you do it yourself.

So she met with several higher-ups of the sector which led to her meeting with a few principals and superintendents and so on. One of these few principals she met was Faust, because Hexside was one of the largest schools on the Isles even then. It was her and one of the education sector admins and it really only consisted of her asking a lot of questions about Hexside - how things were done currently and what improvements Faust felt could be made if the opportunities were presented. When he got over the fact she wasn't there for any malevolent purpose, he answered honestly and it became an intelligent conversation that he appreciated. After all, no Coven Head previously had taken any kind of interest in schooling or children beyond what coven to shape them into.

And that was that for their first meeting!

Though, she did leave quite an impression on him~ And he on her, really because she'd never properly met a Dratani before him.

Finally, a meeting was facilitated that included the entire Education Sector administration, the principals of several schools, Terra herself, and two other Coven Heads. It was at the conclusion of this meeting that Faust approached her and asked if she'd be interested in accompanying him to a display. (Kind of like going to a public show like you'd see at fairs or whatnot, but they're held in the city square.)

This didn't go over her head. She knew this was a "date." And she almost said no. But he was interesting. And polite. Why not?

And the rest is history~

my first thought was, they simplified everyone's costume so it's easier to move around in ?? but that's not quite true. Himeno and Rita's skirts are, but Kagu is still in that getup and Gira heavier costume so ease for action is not the priority here.

Does "Space" means there'll be more on-location filming? Not that I'm against it of course, just that it doesn't make sense for Toei to spend the time and money they saved by using virtual production, and when the CG is a selling point of the show. For now, the door is open, the question is whether new planets would be shown in CG or kyu-style locations. I lean towards the former in consistence with the fantasy style of the show, but at least they left a backdoor for interacting with previous teams.

To think they'd travel planet-to-planet kyuranger style is probably not what's happening, it's more a general term for the second season phase's boss coming from space and being who caused the divide between humans and buganroks 2000 years ago.

But I'm so down for a kyuranger crossover though 🤣 if this is Sakamoto's new work...

I didn't notice Gira wearing Racules's clothes the forth, the fifth time. Gotta admit I was very distracted by his hair that makes him look even more like a local comedian XD I like his braids and was waiting for Taisei to cut his hair lol. conspriacy zenkai with that Racules charm being long hair too/jk

Blond Yanma needs some time getting used to. I couldn't be sure at the beginning of the week but I rationalize it as Aoto himself turning blond for a day or two, but that color is really saturate on Yanma haha. I think in general Aoto's hair look darker on-screen? oh wait... that's why his hair on 24/7 is brown instad of black... he's already bleaching it... anyway, 金髪ヤンマ総長めっちゃヤンキーぽい！looks older too. kinda want to throw an ikura-loving daughter with superpowers onto him haha.

Himeno-sama!! I love Himeno's look??! I LOOOOVE the new shoes! I love her dress. You can see her dress more clearly on Erica's twitter. The new dress compensated for where I felt v1 is under-designed/too Belle like. the construction looks like it can do better but it's unfair to say so from just one pic :p the poster ver. looks like a petticost is still included so maybe that was just an offshot. Red and glowing! Her hair was dark red as a kid and had a habit of almost "glowing" and when she was well into her teen years it just randomly turned bright red and glowed consistently with mood. She also blushes bright red when in love specifically.

Peyton List is I think a good comparison for how I'm thinking of her voice currently.

is your character an indoor or outdoor person?

Outdoors, incredibly. She'll do anything she can as long as it's outdoors.

She was very indecisive as a kid but her biggest bout was something in art. She ended up losing interest in this when she was a teen and is an accountant now! Very different.

How easily her emotions show themselves. She feels like she can't hide anything from anyone and hates that feeling of loss of control.

Shells is really close with her parents! Mentioned in another post a while ago saying P moved in with a friend in his teen years; Shells was that friend. They’re eccentric people with so much love in their hearts and Shells has pretty much always been close to them. She had no need for rebellion at any point, though she did tend to sneak out, they would always be waiting because they knew she knew how to stay safe.

She’s got one older sibling. Much older, though, like in their 40’s as of present. She was kind of a miracle after them, to be honest.

Any memory of P being picked on. And people messing up her name. It’s not as prevalent now as it was when she was a kid but it still happens on occasion.

55. What’s the best prank you’ve been witness to?

We had a game at school called Murder. The whole class played it together, as did some of our teachers. We wrote all names down and the name on your note was the person you had to kill. Killing worked so that you had to give something to the person on your note and the person had to take it out of your hand into their hand. If this worked, and no one saw it, you were allowed to dissolve that you were the killer. It’s so incredibly mean because at school, and all the time you had to borrow some stuff or something. Or you were just polite and held something because someone wanted to tie the shoe etc. So you always had to be very careful. You always had to pay attention. It was really funny because you didn’t accept anything, it always had to be put down first, on the floor or on a table. The hands could not touch it at the same time. So, as already mentioned, some of our teachers played with us. And once our class teacher pretended that a student was in a lot of trouble. She was so mad and nobody knew what happened. Our teacher told her that she had to come along to discuss it in the staff room. They left the classes together and panic broke out with all of us. Lord, our teacher acted tooooo good. xD Anyway, we were all worried and intimidated etc. Less than two minutes later, the student, a friend of mine, came back to class and called out "I am dead". Behind her, our tears laughing teacher. Probably it is already clear, she had done nothing wrong, she was not in trouble, she did not get in trouble. Our teacher just wanted her out of the class alone, gave her a stack of paper and boom, the game was over for her. The student had of course not thought about the game at that moment. It was hilarious. Also for the student herself it was funny so do not worry. Our teacher was always wonderful. I think that counts as prank and it was the best I have ever experienced. 😂 Btw, small side note still because I can really recommend the game: If you were killed, then you got the note of your victim. It went on until all but one person were dead. So, it can taaaake really long. 😂

84. Any wild stories passed around in your family?

My whole family consists of wonderful freaks and wild stories. Seriously, I don’t think you can imagine how wild. 😂 However, many of them are too private to share here so I’ll just share a little funny one.

A few weeks ago my grandma was here and as some of you might know I own a pole dance pole. Anyway, my room door was open, and my mother and I were in another room, and as grandmas are, she went into my room. At first she complained that my clothes are all black and when I finally put on something colored etc etc etc. (that will never happen grandma, except my pink cuddly socks 😌) So, my mom passed the room and they shortly talked about the pole dance pole and how hard it is and stuff. My mom went on. My mother went back to the kitchen and only a few seconds later you could hear my grandmother jumping several times. And you could hear her rings on her finger on the pole. xD This 86 year old woman has actually tried her luck on the pole. It was hilarious and she had lots of fun. Even if the strength is no longer completely present. And I had fun as well. Same as my mom. And after telling my brother about it he also had fun. Anyway, my grandma is convinced that she could still earn a lot of money, and if not, the men are simply stupid. 😂

👗 to help my muse pick out an outfit (for Oraia because picking outfits together is cute and also has the potential to be sexy xD)

"Hi, again." The auburn-haired woman jumped, turning to confront Oraia while wielding a hairbrush. "Sorry. I forget that some aren't used to portals." Anna Marie decided to forgive her for the moment, even though the goddess wore a smile that looked suspiciously mischievous. Maybe the expression was a reaction to the X-Woman's outfit, which consisted of a faded Joan Jett t-shirt with some joggers and Crocs.

"Ain't nothin. So, uh...where's the clothes?"

"C'mon. I figured it'd be easier if I brought you to them." As Oraia went back the way she came, Anna Marie noticed that the portal led into a pricey-looking home. Curious, she followed and nearly dropped her hairbrush.

"Oraia! What the heck is all this?" she cried. There were at least three garment bags lying on the bed, a couple of shoeboxes that Anna knew were expensive brands, a giant canopy bed (she might've sat on it, just to try it out if Oraia hadn't been right there) and a large vanity with several drawers. "Ah-ah can't afford you, Oraia. 'm real sorry..." she mumbled, stepping back to go through the portal. But Oraia was faster, closing the portal with a flick of her wrist.

"It's a favor, Rogue. Or should I call you Anna Marie?"

"....Rogue's fine..."

"I told you to call me if you needed help. Besides, I was hoping we'd become friends. Then moments like this wouldn't be so weird," Oraia replied, smiling. "Alright, belle, strip!" Anna Marie had changed in front of the other women on her team, so she had no problem stripping down to the convertible bra and basic grey cotton panties she'd pulled on. But the look Oraia was giving her...was something else. The shorter woman had taken a few steps back so she could give Anna Marie a look over. Her sea-green eyes appeared to glow for a second, and her lips quirked into a mysterious smile that was slightly unnerving.

"What?"

"I'm sorry. I don't mean to make you uncomfortable. I just...appreciate what you're letting me see, that's all. It's a pleasure to dress you." Rogue blinked, lips parting before she realized she didn't know what to say in response. All she knew was, if the heat in her face meant anything, her cheeks were aiming to be as pink as the goddess's lips. Is that her natural color, or-? "Let's get moving, hm?"

It was easy to see that Oraia was inhuman when she was moving around the room getting pieces together. The woman went from one point to another fast as a breeze, and no matter how many things she had in her arms, she moved with unnatural grace. Finally, she handed Anna Marie one of the garment bags, a shoebox (with a pair of new seamless panties slapped on top), and a tiny jewelry box.

"Thank ya'..."

"Don't mention it. I'll be in the other room, just call me back when you're done." And she was gone. Anna Marie didn't mind getting undressed in general, but it was a little weird taking off her underwear in the house of someone she didn't know too well. Shoulda thought a' that before Ah called. She sucked it up and put on what she'd been given.

"Oraia, could ya come in here, please?"

"Need me to zip you? Are the shoes comfy?" It would've been alarming how quickly Oraia reappeared if Anna Marie hadn't seen her fly around a couple minutes before. She replied with two nods, and bit her tongue as she felt a bit of pressure against the small of her back, letting her know exactly where her hostess was. But Oraia didn't linger; as soon as she'd carefully zipped up the back of the dress, she stepped away. "Over here, there's a mirror."

A little ways down, there was, in fact, a floor-length mirror. The belle smiled, pleasantly happy with how the dress fit her. It was off the shoulder, but somehow both sleeves were like typical short sleeves, neither reaching her elbow. The skirt was probably A-line by itself, but with her hips, it'd turned into a pretty mermaid shape. "Wow. Ah really like this one, thank--" Oraia held up a finger and hurried away, then came back with a necklace that made Anna Marie's jaw drop. It was like someone had tied a bow using a ribbon, then turned the whole thing into a choker made with tiny, round diamonds. "It's so beautiful," she whispered as Oraia clasped it around her neck.

"That's just Number One."

She turned to the brunette. "Oraia, Ah can't. Ah can't let you spend all this money on me--"

"And why not?" Her hands were on her hips, and it wasn't clear if she was truly angry or just exasperated. "You've saved the world without as much of a thank you given in return. I've lived for centuries and seen what humans do to powers they can't understand!" She huffed, then took a slow, deep breath. "Rogue, I'm not giving anyone any excuse to justify why mutants don't have a seat at the table. And..." Oraia's eyes softened. "You're allowed to have nice things. Funny, sentimental, or expensive. Besides..." A smile easily slid back onto her face. She looks real nice that way. Natural. "Pretty girls deserve pretty things. Now, do me a favor and strip again. Everything but the earrings and panties has to go."

"Y-yes, ma'am." Anna Marie watched the slim figure retreat until she was out of sight. Then she looked back at herself in the mirror and realized that she was wearing too many clothes. Superman would've been impressed by how quickly she got everything off, even though she made sure to put everything back the way it'd been given to her. "Oraia?" she called, unsure about...a lot.

When she came in, the goddess's tongue slipped out to moisten her lips, and Anna Marie unconsciously clenched her thighs together, wondering where that tongue would go if--

"Have you ever worn body chains?" Oraia asked, opening one of her drawers.

"Chains? Like, bondage?" She remembered hearing rumors that the Hellfire Club had a whole floor dedicated to that. Emma Frost's corset-and-thong outfit (which she, thankfully, never wore in front of the kids) kind of proved the theory. But Oraia just laughed and faced Anna Marie holding up what looked like a super-long, very thin necklace with diamonds every few inches.

"No, this kind of chain. The trend's inspired by Indian belly dancers. It's worn against the skin for this outfit, which is why I asked you to...bare some skin for me." She was standing in right in front of her, and when the tip of her tongue emerged again, Anna Marie suddenly became very aware of how close Oraia's lips were to the two prominent, pink-tipped girls on display. Her own mouth dried up, while something completely different began to happen down south. "You're going to put it on like a shirt: you slip it over your head, then you put an arm through each side."

Anna Marie did as she was told, stiffening when the fabric of Oraia's shirt tickled her firm nipples. But the goddess didn't seem to notice. Instead, she went and got a suit. The jacket was white until it reached the waist. There sat some brown stripes, followed by black. The pants were black, too. "It's real pretty," the redhead said approvingly, almost happy to put it on. She went to the mirror and decided that she liked how it fit.

"You're pretty," her stylist whispered, making a shiver run down Anna Marie's spine as Oraia gently squeezed her shoulders from behind. Anna Marie smiled as she found a note from Oraia on top of the garment bags packed inside the box. It read: "To my Belle, who I hope to see again soon...enjoy the looks on their faces. The third one is for Stark's gala next week. The others are for you. -- O." She found the two outfits she'd tried on (and the jewelry that went with them), plus a tailored black three-piece suit, complete with a silk lining patterned with Xs, a silver vest, a black tie, and a white dress shirt. The pair of strappy silver sandals she'd tried on were there, too.

When Ari is repopulating, and he skips Black Drakonis, he says "Makes sense." But he's surprised when Violet points out that Black Drakonis is missing, so it sounds like he at least had a theory/assumption at the time for why she was skipped, but it doesn't match with the new information.

he initially just assumed that black drakonis had managed to avoid being killed the whole time, which made sense because she's a big dragon and she can just fly away if someone is trying to murder her. but generally if a bigass monster is alive someone is going to see it, especially her, because she likes finding population centers to try to guard.

-You know today is the day that you will get the chance to hold his hand. -the fukurodani’s ace and team captain despite his being playful and has a child-like personality, are now all shy when it comes to you. -you two become an item after he confessed to you. It’s actually a very embarrassing confession from Bokuto, when he actually brings the whole team to support him and comes to your classroom. -”y/n, i like you, please go out with me.” he formally asked you out and when i say formally, it consisted of flowers and a tuxedo outfit. (akaashi cannot contain how embarrassing it is) -you just laugh so much and at the same time feel so happy about his effort of getting you affection. Well, he did pass with flying colors. -after school one afternoon, since the volleyball team doesn’t have a practice for today, bokuto decided to go home with you. -bokuto is all chatty on the way and you are so attentive to him, and casually laughs with him. -you both are swaying your hands, and you can’t help the urge to look at his big hand. You tried looking at your hand and thinking if he can wrap his hands on yours. And that would be sweet for you. -”-y/n, y/n are you listening?” you suddenly look up at bokuto who has a worried look on his face. “E-eh? Did you say something, bokuto-san?” -his face becomes confused, “-kotaro,” he said, and now he’s blushing. You’re the confused one now. “What? -”i-i said, c-call me kotaro from n-now on.” after he says that, he suddenly grabs your hand, and intertwines it. -”a-and i can h-hold your hand, right? I’ve been thinking about doing that since we walked home.” bokuto is looking on the other side while you can also feel you’re blushing so much too. -you suddenly burst out laughing, finding bokuto so cute about being shy right now. -”i’m sorry, i’m not laughing at you kotaro.” you smiled at him when he looked back at you. And you get rewarded by his genuine smile which you also love.

-you didn’t expect him to confess to you first and to have a crush on you in the first place. -despite being so stubborn, he is so sweet the way he confesses that day. -like the cliche moment when he asked you to meet him at the rooftop of the school, the summer air is around as the sun is setting, Hajime told you about his feelings. -you can feel the tears in your eyes, but it changes into laughter when oikawa suddenly enters the scene and is a bit mad at Iwaizumi for not following the script of confession he made. Earning him a punch by Iwaizumi. “Say, y/n. Will you still like Iwa-chan? He's so sadistic.” oikawa said after iwaizumi beat his ass. -iwaizumi stops and waits for your answer while holding oikawa by the neck. You just smile and kiss iwaizumi on the cheek. “That is my answer,” -because it’s too embarrassing, oikawa teased you all the way until the next several days. -that afternoon, you know Iwaizumi is a bit annoyed when oikawa is teasing you two at the gym. Even if he's annoyed, you find him so handsome in your eyes. -he’s been the manly figure to you since junior high and that won’t change. -when you suddenly hold his hand while the two of you are on the way home. He suddenly jolted and looked at you. -”i’m sorry, did i startle you, hajime?” you are already apologetic to him, knowing he’s in a bad mood. -”n-no, you hold my hand, i-i’m shocked,” he said to you and a bit blushing. You suddenly let go of his hand and say you’re sorry. -But iwaizumi is fast, he snatches back your hand and says, “hey, no backing out, y/n.” and he kisses your hand. XD

-sitting next to tsukishima, you actually felt nervous. You two are alone in the classroom and he’s looking straight at you. -as much as you wanted to know what he would say, you can’t speak of anything. He just stares at you for a good 10 minutes. -”hinata and kageyama said they have a crush on you,” he nonchalantly said. You are amazed by the fact he knew that. When in fact hinata and kageyama made fun of you for having a crush on tsukishima, thus they say they have a crush on you so you don't have to fall for the blunt blonde. -you just shrugged your shoulders and continued finishing your work. “I don’t know tsukki, they never told me that.” you even fight back smiling because he’s being hilarious with the question look he has. -he then put both his hands on his chest and rested his back at the wall. “Did you somehow like them too?” -you somehow annoyed at him, “i do like my friends, so i like them.” you saw his eyes rolled back in frustration. He can’t get what he wants to say. -”can you tell me what’s the problem, tsukishima-kun? Are you bothering me now just because shoyo and tobio said they like me?” your nervousness is long gone now. -he looks at you in disbelief, “what? First name basis? I can’t believe it, you called them by their first name, while you call me tsukishima.” and now you’re lost. Why is he being so irritated about everything? (well y/n, he’s always like that XD) -”i did call them like that since forever, they have been my friends since my first year here. Is it strange?” you calmly said. -”so which one do you like, huh? That stupid king (kags), or that simpleton idiot(hinata)?” he directly asked you about it. -you instantly look at him, “Neither of them! why are you so interested?” -”are you an idiot?” tsukishima said with an annoying expression. “Of course i need to know, because i like you!” -what he said didn’t actually register in your mind at first, you looked at him and you saw him blushing, the same intensity as you. -”tsukishima, I-!” you’re about to answer him but then hinata, kageyama and yamaguchi interfere. -”WHHHHHAAAAAT?” the three of them shouts in unison. -and you just laugh as the three of them continued teasing tsukishima. -as the two of you walking home quietly, you are a bit awkward about his confession that afternoon. You wanted to answer him but didn’t have the courage to talk first. -then you saw his free hand, and the desire to hold it kept on going on in your mind. And since you wanted to answer him, you made up your mind and took the initiative to hold it. -tsukishima suddenly flinches a little and instantly looks at your blushing face. “I can do this whenever I want to my boyfriend, right?” your nervousness almost eats you alive after you said those lines, and you know tsukki is too. -”y-yeah, of course,” you both happily walk towards your new life as a couple. please read the article 'How White Fandom is Colonizing "Character-Coding"' by Shafira Jordan and quit while you're ahead

Okay, so I read it and see the problem, and I’ll try to address all their points in order because I don’t wholly agree with the article. I know it’s a lot to read so I’ve put tldr; sections at the end of each :)

Misusing the Term Reinforces Negative Stereotypes for Marginalized People 

The article essentially argues that labeling characters which are villainous as POC-coded is bad because they’re not morally pure and doing so "reinforces the idea that people of color are naturally dangerous and not to be trusted.”

Which is fair as you don’t want all the representation to be of ‘bad’ characters, but I also don’t believe all representative characters have to be ‘good’ either as it would be equally racist to divide good/bad in such a way. Not that I would place Loki under ‘bad’ to begin with, but arguing that characters shouldn’t be labelled as POC-coded for reasons unrelated to what’s presented in the narrative or because they did bad things is :/ even if lack of good representation is a prevalent issue in current Western and influenced media. 

Ideally there should be a range of representative characters that fall into ‘good’, ‘bad’, and ‘anywhere in-between’ because variety and complexity in character types should, in theory, be treated as common practice (which can only happen with a multitude of representation!).

And a bit unrelated but... within the fictional context of Thor 1, all the Jotnar (sans Loki) are presented to the audience as ‘bad’ by default. They desperately want to get their Casket back to the point of attempting stealing it (from the ‘good’ characters), they fight the heroes and even when the gang and Thor (’good’ characters) are enjoying or going overboard with taking lives it’s inconsequential, Laufey wants to kill the opposing king (who just happens to be a ‘good’ character) and will resort to low-handed methods to do so, etc. The narrative itself is from the frame of reference of the ‘good’ and we only see warriors of Jotunheim though so we understand why it’s like this, because regardless of their race/experiences the narrative carries, even if it most definitely would be seen as racist from our real-life perspectives if the ‘monstrous’ race were presented by actual people of colour, even if it would make sense for the people on on different realms living in different environments to be different from each other, and realistic even for that to be the root of some conflict. 

tldr; not using a specific label to prevent negative presentations of the characters seems a bit strange to do when the coding would be based off the text, but with limited representation available I see why it would be done, even if I still believe minority-coding is free game to expand/interpret.

Improperly Labeling a Character as “POC-coded” Suggests the Experiences of All People of Color are the Same 

The article argues that labeling Loki as POC-coded “suggests that all people of color have the same experiences, when in reality, people of color come from different places, have different cultures, and have different traditions.” And while it’s true that the term doesn’t go into detail about which particular experiences (and these experiences can vary vastly due to diversity!) the appropriate measure would be to remove the umbrella term POC altogether as people of colour tend to also vary. But that’s also exactly why it’s an all-encompassing general term? It’s a way to denote anyone who isn’t “white” and has the associated cultural privilege that comes with the concept of white supremacy.  

And, obviously, in the fictional setting presented, the concept of white supremacy is not prodded at, but cultural supremacy is definitely one that makes recurring appearances, right next to the parts about Asgard being a realm built on imperialism with ongoing colonial practice. 

My take on this is that Loki’s narrative features a struggle with identity after finding out he’s of a different race and was being treated differently his entire life and being Jotun was presumably a part of the reasoning even if he didn’t know it. He’s basically treated as of less worth for inherently existing differently. I do believe that racism is a common-enough POC experience, but that while Loki was born with blue skin he passes/appears white which is why I don’t say that Loki is a POC, just that he has been coded/can be interpreted this way. 

There’s also the entire thing with Loki trying to fit in and prove he belongs by trying to fit the theory and be The Most Asgardian by committing genocide (which ultimately makes no difference as he’s still not the ‘acceptable’ version of Asgardian), and the denial/rejection of his birth culture in destructively lashing out towards them (which even Thor is confused by because Loki isn’t typically violent), and the fact his self worth plummets and he is passively suicidal upon finding out he’s Jotun (internalized racism? general drop in self-worth after finding out he’s adopted and has been lied to? Bit of both?), but what do I know, I’m sure none of those are, at their base, common experiences or relatable feelings for anyone or decent rep because we see such themes on-screen presented wonderfully in different lights all the time. 

tldr; every set of experiences could be different, some types of discrimination could overlap, if you limit an umbrella term to only very specific circumstances then it’s no longer an umbrella term.

Suggesting that White Characters are Meant to be Seen as People of Color Ignores the Actual Characters of Color that are Present in these Stories

I don’t agree with most of this section, but that may just be the way the arguments are put together, which I don’t blame the author for.

“ Implying that Loki is a person of color completely ignores Heimdall and Hogun, the only Black and Asian Asgardians who appear in the movie. ”

Characters such as Hogun and Heimdall which are played by actual people of colour have smaller roles in the films and any prejudice they could face for being POC in-universe isn’t made apparent, while Loki at the very least comes to the realization that something he couldn’t change (race, parentage,) was having him treated differently his whole life and had to come to terms with it. The Vanir/Aesir are also both treated similarly on-screen, and Heimdall having dark skin isn’t plot relevant, whereas Jotnar are treated as lesser consistently and are relevant through the movie (breaking into the vault, Thor and co. attack Jotunheim, Loki’s deal with Laufey, the attempted regicide (and the successful one XD), destroying jotunheim, Loki saying he’s not Thor’s brother,). 

I also see including characters as POC-coded as... more representation? In all canon-compliant interpretations of the characters Hogun being Vanir is always explicitly mentioned because it’s a fact that just is, up to the appearance and even the world-building of Vanaheim in some fanworks use particularly East Asian culture as inspiration. I have never come across a Marvel fandom Heimdall interpretation where he’s not Black... but because these characters are more minor/side-characters of course they get less attention! 

“ In Loki’s fandom, Heimdall’s name sometimes gets thrown in to suggest that it was he all along who was the real villain due to his “racism” against Loki and the rest of the Jotun. It is, of course, ironic to suggest that somehow the only Black Asgardian to appear in the movie can oppress the privileged white prince. “

I... don’t know where to start with this. But the example of theorizing given in the article wasn’t suggesting Heimdall was bad or trying to explain his actions in Thor 1 by saying he is Black... and just looking at a character’s actions shouldn’t be done less or more critically because of skin tone in my opinion. Heimdall may have been trying to do what was best and protect the realm but if the audience didn’t know that Loki was up to dodgy things then the coding would be switched around because he was trying to spy and committed treason and then tried to kill Loki. People... can hold feelings towards others... regardless of skin... and suspect them... for reasons other than skin... although I do still have questions about whether Heimdall knew Loki was Jotun or not. (Even if I personally don’t think it’d make a difference to how he’d treat Loki?)

Some Loki fans have also suggested that because Jotuns have blue skin that this alone makes him a person of color (even if the audience is only allowed to see Loki in his true Jotun form for mere seconds of screentime). This, again, shows a lack of understanding when it comes to race. It doesn’t matter what skin color the Jotuns have. 

Race can differentiate between physical and/or behavioural characteristics!! Not being blue all the time doesn’t make him any less Jotun!! He’s got internalized stuff to work through and is used to being Aesir!! At least 1 parent is Jotun so even if Loki was passing as Aesir he’s probably Jotun!! (I don’t know how magic space genetics work for sure but Loki being Jotun was an entire very important jump-starting point in Thor 1!!). It’s a fantasy text and typically things like having different coloured skin indicates a different race or is sometimes if a species has multiple then is just considered a skin colour. That’s how coding works!! The Jotnar are very specifically the only race we see in the movie with a skin-tone not within the ‘normal’ human range, which alienates them to the audience from the get-go!! They’re an “other” and on the opposite side to the ‘good’ characters.

Both Loki and his birth father, Laufey (Colm Feore), are played by white men, and it is impossible for a white man to successfully play a character of color. 

The specification of men here bothers me, but yes, you don’t get ‘white’ people to play characters of colour if it can be avoided. (And it can be avoided.)

This also connects with the previous point made that people of color come from various places. There is nothing specifically about the Jotun that could be traced to any specific person of color, and even if there were, there would be no way for white men to portray them without being disrespectful.

This is where arguments about the definition of coding and how specificity/generalizations and do/don’t come in. I know I’m subjective and lean towards the more rep the better, but while I agree ‘white’ people wouldn’t be able to respectfully play a POC I don’t think that rule should have to carry over into fantasy-based fiction. I know texts reflect on reality and reality can reflect within texts, but if contextually there is racial discrimination and there are similar ideas which resonate with the audience’s own experiences I’d say it’s coded well enough to allow that.

tldr; Thor 1′s narrative revolves mainly around Thor and Loki, of which race is kinda kinda a significant theme in Loki’s part of the story. Not so much explored with less-developed side characters such as Heimdall and Hogun, even though their actors are actual people of colour. 

How Much of this is Really Well-Intentioned?

In the fantasy space viking world Heimdall and Hogun don’t face any on-screen prejudice and their appearance is not mentioned (which is nice, for sure! good to have casual rep!) but adding on to the roles they play in the narrative the explicit fantasy-racism in the movie isn't aimed at Asian/Black characters, but towards the Humans -to a lesser extent- and the Jotnar, including Loki, who only just found out he comes under that bracket.

The article mentions how fandom space toxicity often “reaches the actors who portray the characters,“ which is true, and it’s shameful that people have to justify their roles or presences are harassed for the pettiest things like skin tone/cultural background, but I don’t see coding characters as removing the spotlight from interesting characters such as those which are actually POC, rather expressing a demand for more rep, since well-written complex characters which are diverse are often absent/minor enough in the media, and therefore can get easily brushed aside in both canon and fandom spaces.

tldr; It’s obviously not a replacement for actual representation, but, if a character is marginalized and can be interpreted as coded, even if they would only be considered so within the context of the textual landscape, I don’t see why spreading awareness through exploring the coding as a possibility for the character shouldn’t be done, even if the media is being presented by people who are ‘white’ or privileged or may not fall into the categories themselves, as long as it’s done respectfully to those it could explicitly represent.

Soulmate Alphabet

Summary: So this is soulmate headcannons, but through the alphabet.

Character: F!ReaderxCordelia Goode

A/N: I am so excited for this. XD I hope y’all like this, and I really want to do it with all of sarah’s ahs characters so please let me know. :) Also big shoutout to @winters-witch-bitch for giving me motivation bc this would have never been completed.

aging (stops at 18 until you find your soulmate so the two of you can grow old together)

You were 15 when you met Cordelia. Your parents had dropped you off at the academy to learn how to use your magic. You both felt this strange connection to each other, but neither ever mentioned it. Cordelia being a year older, had her 18th birthday first. The day of everyone teased her because this could be her last birthday for a very long time. You two had grown very close in the time but you were both too scared to bring up the soulmate topic. The next year Cordelia realized she was still aging, so confusion filled her. Everyone at the academy immediately looked at you. Realization shot through you so with this huge amount of courage you grabbed Cordelia and kissed her in front of the teachers and students. Immediately you both knew you were each other’s soulmates. All the students, and Myrtle, started cheering and a few girls started passing around money because they had started a bet that you two were each other’s soulmates.

One Saturday, you were relaxing watching a movie on your couch. You were reaching into your snack bowl when you saw a blooming flower tattoo appear on your wrist. At first you were a little panicked but quickly realized it was from your soulmate getting the tattoo.

For Cordelia, you have always been the type to do random doodles on your skin with a marker or pen, so as Cordelia would be teaching random stars, flowers, and hearts would appear on her skin. The girls would always tease her about it saying things like, “Oooo someone has a future Van Gogh.”

You had seen the video Cordelia made about recruiting witches, so you decided to head to New Orleans. You went because you were a witch who could definitely use some guidance but there was also something about her that just drew you in. When you did get to the academy, you were walking into her office when you both made eye contact. Immediately something in the air shifted. You both cringed at the splitting headache that came with finally seeing color. The beauty of color rushed both of your visions, and then the realization that you two were soulmates hit. An awkward excitement filled the room because you two realized you finally found your person.

 damage (done to a person also translates into their soulmate’s body-cuts, bruises, and all)

When Cordelia got attacked by the witch hunter, it was bad for both of you. You were at the mall with your best friend when Cordelia was attacked. The second the hunter threw the acid on her, you felt it too. You had fallen to your knees and cried out, similar to Cordelia. Your best friend immediately panicked and called for help. When you got to the hospital, they told you that it was because your soulmate was attacked with acid. The fact that your soulmate got acid thrown in her face was concerning, but once you two were together you understood what had happened, and it broke Cordelia’s heart that you got so hurt too.

Being a skater, you were constantly falling and getting scrapes and bruises. Cordelia would wake up and find random bruises and scrapes on her shins and elbows. It always made her so curious as to what you were doing.

 empathy (soulmates can sense one another’s presence and feel each other’s exact emotions even when miles away)

One time when your mind was being especially awful, Cordelia could feel it too. Cordelia has dealt with similar feelings, but she knew it was more than her own mind. It would always make her heart hurt knowing her soulmate was out there hurting and she couldn’t comfort you.

 first (the first thoughts your soulmate thinks when seeing you are written on your skin)

When you had first met at the coven, the first thing Cordelia thought when she truly looked at you was, “This gorgeous woman is my soulmate.” So that was what appeared on your ribcage, and honestly you loved it so much. The first thing you thought when you looked at Cordelia was, “Holy shit this lady is mine.” So whenever you see that on Cordelia you cringe, blush, and want to hide, but Cordelia will always laugh and tell you how much she loves it.

 guardian (it is said that the person who saves you from a near-death experience is your soulmate—drowning, car crash, etc.)

A couple days before your interview at the academy, you were walking down Bourbon Street in the evening. You were exploring the city when a drunk driver ran a red light, unbeknownst to both of you who you two were, Cordelia had used her powers to swerve the car around you. You looked around in shock but couldn’t figure out who did it. Cordelia just saw someone about to get hurt, so she saved you. When you two had realized you were the two in that situation, everything made a little more sense about your love.

 heartbeats (the soulmates share the same heartbeat—when one feels panicked, shocked, etc., the other can feel it too)

When Cordelia had lost Misty and was panicking trying to find her, you were too. You were at work when the panic hit. The previous week you had been feeling uneasy, but it was never too bad. You were talking to your boss when suddenly your chest felt tight and extreme worry clouded your mind. Your boss had grabbed a chair for you to sit in, but she was thoroughly confused as to what was happening. Once you had gotten your emotions in check, you had to awkwardly explain to your boss why you just started sweating and panicking from practically nothing.

 identifier (a word or symbol which is imputed to your soulmate is somewhere on your body)

You have a pentagram on your wrist that you had gotten from your grandmother. Cordelia had always had one on her back by her left hip, but she never knew why she had it until she met you. She had always assumed that it was from her soulmate, so it made her think that you were a witch or had some sort of magical ability.

 juxtaposition (your soulmate is the exact opposite of you, yet you find yourselves complementing one another)

Cordelia is a responsible, powerful, confident, soft spoken, methodical, put together leader while you are this free spirited, shy, anxious, loud artistic mess. While you can be self-deprecating comparing your differences, Cordelia always stops you and tells you how much she loves your talents, mind, and personality. You two really challenge each other sometimes with the drastically different personalities, but it is one of the ways your relationship is constantly growing.

 keys (and locks are randomly dispersed to soulmates on chains when they are born. when in proximity, the lock and key will act as magnets and bring the two soulmates closer together until the key is placed in the lock and a gratifying click is heard, unlocking the chain)

You were sitting in a little café in the French Quarter enjoying a coffee when you felt your seat move. You had started to be pulled closer to the front of the café when you realized what was happening. Excitement and nervousness filled you as you were trying to guess who your soulmate is. You had finally been pulled to the door when Cordelia’s key was inserted into your lock. Instantly you pulled her into a hug and melted into her arms. You were completely blown away by her beauty and so incredibly excited to have found your soulmate.

 last (the last words your soulmate says are written on your skin)

Prior to Mallory resetting the timeline, Cordelia had died. You wanted to stay back with Madison and help distract Michael, but Cordelia wouldn’t let you. She wanted you with her, so you went with her, Myrtle, and Mallory into the room with the tub. Cordelia didn’t want you to watch her die, so she had used her magic to hold you in the room with the other two witches. You were panicking because you didn’t want her to die but you couldn’t beak her hold. Myrtle had told you it was no use fighting it, so you just accepted it and fell limp in her magical hold. As you were sobbing, the hold broke and suddenly words appeared on your arm as Myrtle cried out Cordelia’s name. You looked down to see “Satan has one son, but my sisters are legion motherfucker” written onto your right arm.

 marks (marks or stains of the color black are somewhere on your body (palm of your hand, knuckles, knee) until you and your soulmate finally make physical contact. once the mark is touched, it fades to be consistent with the person’s skin color)

You always had this black smear on the palm of your hand; it looked like you rubbed your palm with black acrylic paint. People with less visible marks loved to point it out, so you were ready to get rid of it. Once you had met Cordelia you immediately took her hand in yours, and when you pulled away the mark had faded to match the rest of your hand.

Cordelia’s mark was on her shoulder. So later on in your relationship when you two had started to love and trust each other, she had asked you to touch it. You ran your hand over her shoulder, sending a shiver down her spine. As soon as you lifted your hand, the mark had faded away, being replaced with the color of her pale skin.

 nurse (the touch of a soulmate can heal you from affliction and vice versa)

Even though you were both witches, when one got hurt you two didn’t need to use magic. Because Cordelia is the Supreme, she only ever got headaches, nothing like papercuts or bruised knees from banging into a table. So whenever she isn’t feeling well, you have her lay her head in your lap and you rub her head and lightly comb your fingers through her hair. This always makes her headaches go away and leaves you with a very sleepy girlfriend.

In your case, being as clumsy as you are, Cordelia is constantly having to come find you to heal your wounds. Whether it’s a broken beaker in the greenhouse that cut your hand, or you burned yourself practicing pyrokinesis, Cordelia always rushes to your side to heal you. The girls think it’s ridiculous because any one of them can heal you immediately with their powers, but you only want Delia to heal you.

 opportune outfit (soulmates will eternally color coordinate, even if they have not met one another yet, and often times have similar patterns in their clothing)

You and Cordelia have always worn white, black, light pink, and navy-blue colored outfits. Sometimes you would both wear a floral print outfit. Once you had moved into the academy, you two were adding your clothes into her closet. You both quickly realized how similar your outfits were. It was like looking at the same aesthetic board twice. While you aren’t really big on dresses, your button up shirts matched her dresses. Your favorite outfit to match with Delia was her light pink blouse and your light pink button up. Loving fashion, you are always so happy to see your similar outfits.

 passion (when soulmates meet, one of their passions blend into the other person)

You had soon realized after meeting Cordelia you had this intense need to garden. Never being the flower type, usually the one who can’t keep a plant alive if it was your last job on Earth, this was really confusing at first. Then you quickly realized it was because of Cordelia. You told her about it and her eyes lit up with joy. She rapidly transmutated the both of you to the greenhouse, and you spent the entire evening learning about flowers, spells, and different ways to tend to the plants. Now you two spend your time in the greenhouse together tending to the different greenery.

One day when Cordelia was in her office, she got this sudden urge to paint. It wasn’t just a little oh I want to paint someday, it was an I need to paint a huge canvas right now. So she went to find you, and to her luck, you were working on a painting. She had walked up to you and wrapped her arms around your waist, “Hey baby can you show me how to do that?” You were a bit taken aback by her question, but you would never deny her of anything especially something you love, so you showed her. You put the paintbrush in her hand and guided her wrist around the canvas. The painting hangs above the fireplace in your bedroom, and every Friday evening you paint together.

You had answered your quiz with your life goals, hobbies, interests, knowledge, and general information about you. You knew how the quizzes work; you get your soulmate based off opposite answers. Like people always say, opposites attract. You had turned your quiz in over mail a few days after your 18th birthday. About a week later you got a letter in the mail with the name Cordelia Goode and how to contact her. A few days later you had finally built up the courage to reach out to her. A part of you was hesitant because she hadn’t reached out to you either, but you just settled on the fact that she was nervous. Once you had called her, you were so happy you did. Your assumption that she was nervous was correct, she was shy and you found it cute. You two had hit it off, so you both planned on meeting up later in the month.

 red string (bonds two soulmates together for a lifetime and all come in varying lengths—imagine the trouble of only being able to walk certain distances or having to sleep on the edge of your bed)

You had always wanted to travel to the other end of your string. Your parents had told you not until you turned 18, so the day it finally came you were over the moon. You could never travel too far west, so you knew you had to go east. The week after your 18th birthday you set out on the road. The most exciting part to you was she could be anywhere. After hours of driving, you finally ended up in New Orleans. The string didn’t have too much tension, so you knew you were getting closer to her. You followed it until you landed at Miss Robichaux’s Academy for Exceptional Young Ladies. You were extremely excited and unbelievably nervous to just walk in there. You realized how your soulmate might not be ready for this, but it was too late to turn back now. Cordelia had realized her string was becoming less tense by the hour, so she knew you were coming. She was nervous because she wasn’t prepared at all. She had spent the few hours she had getting as dressed up as she could, like she was preparing for a date. You finally gathered the courage to walk up to the door and knock. Cordelia knew it was you at the door so she transmutated downstairs to get the door before anyone else could. Once the door was open, you realized this beautiful girl in front of you was the other end of your string, and you were already so in love.

 songbird (any songs a person sings will get stuck in their soulmate’s head for the duration they decide to sing it)

There was this one month in particular where you had WAP by Cardi B stuck in your head. Much to Cordelia’s displeasure may I add. It wasn’t that she didn’t like it because it was a woman singing it, it was just too vulgar for her taste. Cordelia is a very proper woman, so constantly hearing the lyrics of WAP in her head when she was teaching or in a meeting with other witches was distracting to say the least. For a few nights she made you sleep on the couch because she wanted the song out of your head. But being real, you found it hilarious.

For you, whenever Cordelia was working on paperwork or taking a shower, she always lowly sings Fleetwood Mac songs. So you would be going about your day when suddenly Rhiannon or Never Make Me Cry was playing in your head. It always warmed your heart to know Cordelia was in a good mood.

 timers (are set on the wrist of every person once they are a certain age, slowly counting down until the day they meet their soulmate)

On Cordelia’s 30th birthday a watch was set on her wrist, and it read 730 days. It filled her with hope she was beginning to lose. Even though 30 is not old, she felt as if she was running out of time to be with her soulmate. Once the watch had hit seven days, she was so incredibly excited to meet you it was becoming a distraction. She was slacking off at work because she was too busy imagining your meeting. Once the day had come, she didn’t know what to do. She was stressing out in her office when Zoe asked her to run into town with her. Little did Cordelia know she would quite literally run into you at the grocery store.

 undying (you and your soulmate must meet in order to end life—die—together. as long as you have not met them, you will continue aging yet remain immortal)

You had lived your entire life believing you were never going to be able to die. You have seen the lost people who wander, hundreds of years old not able to get the sweet relief of death because they haven’t found their soulmate. One day you met this beautiful witch in Los Angeles. You were both there traveling, and something about her just lit a fire inside of you. This fire that was fueled by the want to know everything about her. You two had exchanged numbers and kept in touch after you both went home. Soon after, you realized how much you missed her, and you knew you needed to be with her. You booked a one-way flight to New Orleans, and never looked back. You knew she was the woman you were going to go out with.

 valiant (when one person is in danger the other will do anything to protect them)

One day you were partying with Madison when a guy tried to force himself onto you. Immediately Cordelia knew you were uncomfortable, so she transmutated to where you were. The second she saw you she protectively wrapped her arms around you and asked if you were ok. After reassuring her you were, she smashed a glass on the guy’s head with her powers and pulled you out of there.

I feel like Cordelia would be the type to get dolled up and ready for her soulmate. She would be the type to be so unbelievably happy to have her soulmate. I picture her as a complete romantic type, so I feel like she would give her soulmate flowers and jewelry. She would of course be cautious because of the safety of her girls, but let’s be honest, Cordelia would immediately be head over heels for her soulmate.

 xtra (add on to a previous headcannon)

One day you were walking out to the greenhouse because Mallory had wanted to work on some incantations. When you got about halfway there, the words “Satan has one son, but my sisters are legion motherfucker” appeared on the inside of your right arm. Thoroughly confused, you asked Mallory what the hell just happened. Worry rapidly shot through Mallory when she saw your arm, and she ran to see where Cordelia was. Now you were lowkey panicking because Mallory got freaked out and went looking for your girlfriend. You ran after her and found her in Cordelia’s office. Mallory then had to very awkwardly explain the old timeline because Cordelia was not letting up, she wanted to know the truth. As Mallory told the stories, everything started to come back to you and Cordelia. Tears had pooled in your eyes because you remembered the fear of when Cordelia had died. But at the same time you realized that you all saved the world.

One night you and the girls had convinced Cordelia to go to a club with you all. You went to the bar to get drinks when this lady in a very revealing dress started talking to you. You two were talking, but you thought it was innocent. She had put her hand on your forearm when your vision turned green. Almost choking, you decided to toy with Cordelia. You kept talking and did the signature laugh, look up and down while you flip your hair back. At that moment you knew you went too far because the green switched to red. That night Cordelia definitely made sure to let you know to never do that again.

You had always seen this blonde woman in your dreams. She was always wearing a flowy, white dress, and she was surrounded by beautiful flowers. You could never make out her face, but she had this magic glow to her. You knew you had to find this woman; you just didn’t know how. One day you were watching the news when Cordelia Goode made it public that she ran a school for witches. The moment you saw her, it was like the dream came to life. You knew exactly where you had to go. You and Cordelia loved to talk about the dreams you two had had of each other before meeting.
